Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.
Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: White 30 inch free-standing electric range
After using the oven for a few hours, the oven beeped and displayed an E2 F3 error. The broiler immediately came on and would not turn off using “cancel” or “off”. Turned off the power at the breaker. After about two hours turned on the breaker. The broiler immediately came on again, so turned off the breaker again. This same thing happened about a year after we originally purchased the oven. We had to replace the control board at that time.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite Electric Range. White. Made in Canada
My Kenmore Elite 790.46702603 electric range would not turn off. I pressed the off button, and everything turned off except the oven. The temperature became very hot and could not be turned off. Luckily I noticed quickly before my oven caught on fire. I turned the breaker off and the heat subsided. I have been looking online to see if others have had this problem. It turns out many people have had this problem and many ovens have been recalled with similar numbers to my model. However, my model is not part of the recall despite having the same issues. Now I am afraid to use the oven, and I have the breaker turned off.

The product, in the report: Kenmore SENS-A-CLEAN Self-Cleaning Electric Range Model 665.95822 Serial No. RK2811651
On 1/12/13 my wife put some cookies to bake. I came inside and noticed smoke coming from the oven and open the oven door to find that the cookies were about to flash into a fire. I quickly took the cookies out with the kitchen smoke detectors now going off and noticed the oven was on the broil function and I could not change function. So I unplugged the oven and noticed that the entire frame was very hot. The next day I plugged back in and verified all functions were off. A few minutes later the broil function then automatically came on and the only way to turn off was to again unplug oven. I then went online and noticed literally hundreds of complaints a the following link: http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/kenmore-oven-c14186.html
However, a majority of them are for Kenmore Model 790 and mine is a 665. Then I went to this website and noticed that from 4/01/11 there were 19 similar incidents (broiler malfunction) which caused some to catch fire and caused at least 1 reported injury. I then removed the oven from the house understanding that if Sears deems these safety incidents as serious then a recall would be issued in due time. So I decided to store the oven in my garage in case it could be used for the purpose of investigation. Since that Jan-2013 there have been 3 additional reports on Model 665 with mine being the 4th. How long until Sears takes action?

While cooking garlic toast for about 5-10 minutes on my Sears/Kenmore Range Model #: 46762 the door handle fell off on the left hand side. It has done this before and I tightened it with no problems. This time when I tried to open the oven door on the right side the entire glass front just exploded. I called Sears, then Kenmore and they will do nothing because the warranty expired. I bought it Jan. 2011.

The product, in the report: Kenmore smooth top electric oven cream colored. model 66595024101; serial RP2714284
Two and a half years ago, our Kenmore oven (model 66595024101; serial RP2714284) was in use as I was baking some brownie. Once they were done, I turned the oven off as usual and went about my business. Later, I came back to the kitchen and the oven was on, element glowing orange. I thought I just forgot to turn it off, so hit the cancel button again. Nothing happened. I ended up having to flip the circuit. A Sears tech came out and found the problem on the circuit board of the oven. It was fixed and had been working fine until yesterday. I checked my baking banana bread and decided it needed a couple of more minutes. When I opened the door a couple of minutes later, smoke came pouring out as the tops were black...this time the upper element was orange and the oven wouldn’t turn off. Again, I had to got to the circuit to cut the power, so it would turn off. I feel this is extremely hazardous and needs to be investigated!!!

The product, in the report: Kenmore Electric Range. White. Flat top. Model#790.94354700. Serial #VF80430063
Pot of soup was on the Kenmore range. It started boiling so I turned down the heat to low, then pushed the simmer button. After that there was a HUGE bang and flash, and the entire stove went dead. It blew the circuit breaker for the stove. After doing some research online, I found out that this is a common problem for Kenmore ranges. In looking at the back of the stove, the simmer select on the control board looks fried, as evidenced by the soot behind and over the front of the control board.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Electric Range
We have the Kenmore burner for about 5 years now. Both the front burners continue to stay on, even when the burners are turned off at the knob. We had to cut the electricity at the breaker. This is an obvious fire hazard.
I see several people have complained about the same issue. I called Sears and they came saying I had to pay $200+ for a technician to come and take a look at it. Isn’t it obvious by now what the problem is? Why should I have to pay to get an answer from the technician.....just tell me whether I should get a new electric range instead of running around the bush.

On November 1, 2013,
I was using the Kenmore Electric Range to bake some fries, like I usually do. Only this time, the oven over heated out of no where and had a F 10 code on the display screen. I cleared/cancelled it out and opened the oven.
The broiler was on? I did not press Broil, I pressed baked!! So for hours the top element stayed lit and hot. I called Sears, but no one would come until Tuesday. So I called around to other local repairs. I even called the Realtor since I am renting this unit and she has not returned my message.
So, I went to the circuit breaker to turn it off. Waited 30+ seconds, then switched it back on. (I thought would reset the range, I was wrong). The broiler [top element] began to heat again. This time, went back to the circuit breaker to turn it off completely. Now I am waiting for somebody to call me back.

The product, in the report: Electric Range
Caller stated that he has been experiencing similar problems of Release # 09-333 with his electric range for the past 6 months. The front left burner comes on by itself and he is unable to power it off from the control panel. The circuit breaker has to be used to switch the power off.
Hazard: Depending on the model, the surface heating elements can: 1) turn on spontaneously without being switched on; 2) fail to turn off after being switched off; or, 3) heat to different temperatures than selected. This poses a fire and burn hazard to consumers.
(10/31/13) The manufacturer was contacted and he was not able to speak with someone he was placed on hold then the call got disconnected.

The first time it happened I went to open the stove door, the handle fell off, and the glass shattered, when I called Kenmore they responded that there has been no recall on my range, and this was the first that they’ve heard of the problem, but their are plenty of similar incedents all over the internet. It appears that the just used screws that are to short to full engage the door. This happened again today as it has many times since the first time. The oven was set at 425 degrees. I burned my hand during the accident. One day somebody is going to get seriously hurt, and then maybe somebody will care enough to fix the issue.

The product, in the report: Kenmore 790 Electric Range
I heated up the oven to 350 degrees. I’ve opened the door, placed the dish inside. Upon closing the door I heard extremely loud noise with shattered glass falling down all over the floor and my feet. I couldn’t believe it. The front outer glass window on the oven had exploded; shattered glass was everywhere. I didn’t slam the door, I didn’t kick it, I simply closed it like with any other time.
I’ve spend another 2 hours (approx) cleaning the glass from the inside of the door (tiny glass pieces just kept coming out on the floor as I was cleaning (so frustrating). I worried about my 3 year old daughter picking up one of those pieces (putting it in her mouth or something in that regard, reffering to “danger”.
As I logged on to my computer, I’ve learned that this has happened numerous times to consumers around United States. Kenmore Model 790 (Electric Range) has even made the news due this issue Please see here: http://www.wpri.com/news/local/glass-oven-doors-suddenly-shattering
There are numerous compaints regarding the same issue and the same model here as well (6 pages of negative consumer reviews):
http://www.selectsmart.com/DISCUSS/read.php?34,601635,page=1
My oven was purchased in 2009. Throughout my entire life, I’ve had other ovens, and I never heard about front glass just shattering. This is obviously a manufactures defect (based on the number of reported identical issues, news report; glass was installed improperly, stress being placed on the glass while heat expands it).
I called Sears, but the representative was not too helpful. I was quoted $75 (65$) could be waived for Sears technician to come look at it. Why would I even pay them $10 for someone to tell me that in fact the glass on the door needs to be replaced.
I’m very dissapoined because I’m anticipating another $150 some for labor and $50 for glass.
I’m very dissapointed with Sears and Kenmore brand that they are selling product like that, and won’t cover this expense. I would understand warranty costs when a heating element goes out, or knob wears out, but not the outer body of the range.
My case number with Sears is: [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: 30” Electric Range, double oven
Noticed over the past many months that the oven racks appeared to be loosening without the oven cavity of our Kenmore Elite electric range. Eventually, the racks would fall to the oven floor when dishes and pans were put on them to cook. This became very dangerous as when I went to check the food cooking, the rack would fall down onto the next rack...or the oven floor, spilling the pan inside. This became very dangerous as the food was very hot. I called Sears who sent a technician in yesterday to check out this problem and they did state that this was a defect in the oven wall. I believe that this is a very dangerous situation. Upon looking online, I did find other accounts of identical issues on the same model of this exact range. I believe that this defect can cause an accident causing a person to be burned and this should be fixed. I did not get burned but came very close.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Ultra Bake Self-Cleaning Super Capacity electric range with smooth top cooking surface
Kenmore Ultra Bake Self-Cleaning Super Capacity electric range spontaneously switches from bake to broil and will not shut off with the oven controls. This has happened twice. Both times we needed to turn off the power at the circuit breaker. The first time this happened, in November 2012, I thought I had mistakenly turned on the broiler element instead of the baking element, and when we reopened the circuit the broiler element did not turn back on. Because of a family situation I have not been home often so the oven has not been used as often as it normally would be, so it was nearly a year before the second episode. This time the food caught fire, shortly after the oven flashed a F3 error code. When we tried reopening the circuit the following afternoon, the broiler unit again came on spontaneously without touching a single control button.
Web searches found plenty of similar incidents, but no recall information for this specific range. After calling three separate 800 numbers to determine if this range is included in any recalls, I finally scheduled a service appointment with Sears. This range frankly scares the [REDACTED] out of me, especially after reading about burners also spontaneously turning on, and is a real fire threat. It should be on the recall list.

The consumer stated that the outside glass exploded outwards and it the glass went as far as 3 feet way from the oven. The consumer stated that there was glass shattered all over kitchen floor.
The consumer stated that no one was injured and that there were no damages to her home structure.

The consumer stated that she contacted the manufacturer and they informed her that it was out of warranty. The consumer stated that the firm will be sending a technician on 09/13/2013 to service the range.
The consumer stated that she believes that this product should be investigated due to the laceration hazard that it poses to consumers.
Consumer would like to add that 10 seconds before the glass door of the oven exploded my 5 year old grandaughter and myself were looking through the door checking on the ginger snap cookies she had just made.
The glass door did not shatter in place. The consumer trust the distinction is understood. The consumer’s understanding of safety glass is that it shatters IN PLACE. Not across the room leaving large shards hanging out of the door.
In the consumer’s opinion all the excuses the companies put forth as to how or why this happens are just that EXCUSES. Has anyone in your organization actually taken a glass oven window and tested it to make sure it meets your standards?

after setting my Kenmore 790.9260 electric range at 375 to preheat and placed an aluminum pan in , I went upstairs with my 2 children, ages 2 and 4. I returned to the kitchen 10 minutes later to continue preparing dinner and noted a large amount of Glass on the kitchen floor in front of the oven door. I then realized that the exterior glass panel of the oven door had shattered. Minimal pieces were remaining in the door frame. The radius of the glass was at least 5 feet from the oven. Very concerned and very thankful that my children were not in the kitchen at that time.

The product, in the report: Kenmore electric range
Sears Kenmore electric range Model 790.92204012 - left front (large single element) burner switch shorting out, spit red-hot sparks onto range top and plume of black smoke.
Range was installed 25Jan2011, same failure occurred as was repaired under warranty 12Nov2012.
Appears switch is incapable of safely handling electrical load from burner. This burner is only used maybe 10 times a year, so 2 consecutive failures in about 9-10 months is grossly inadequate performance, and the fact it spits sparks and overheats to the point of emitting a plume of smoke is a definite safety hazard.

I set the oven temperature on the top panel of the stove, and was setting the timer for the oven, hit start, and there was a flash, a few popping sounds, brief fire, and strong electrical smell, all coming from the middle to top of the control panel. The fire went out by itself quickly. The stove still works, but the oven doesn’t anymore. Nobody was injured, and there was no damage to the surrounding property.

I set my oven to bake/350 and in a few minutes, heard it beep to indicate it had reached temperature. A few minutes after that, I heard it beep 3 times in a row, which I had never heard before, and “E2F3” was displayed on the screen. I also could smell a weird metallic smell. I looked the code up on the internet and found that others that had seen the code found out that their broilers were on for no reason. I went back to check my oven, sure enough, the broiler was on and I had not turned it on. I hit “off” on the control panel but the broiler would not turn off. I had to flip the breaker to get it to turn off. I kept it off until a repairman came out a few days later. When I flipped the breaker, the broiler came on again even though no buttons had been pushed on the control panel. The only way to get it to turn off was to unplug it. The repairman found that the range only has 1 relay (he says most have 2) and that it was stuck. I would need to replace the control board to fix the situation, which, I opted not to do as I’m sure a new one is just as unsafe. I also called Sears at 1-800-549-4505 to file a report as they have asked in their responses to similar reports on this website. If I had not looked on the internet to learn that my broiler might be on, I would never have checked it as the display indicated all items were “off”!!!

I used the boiler for ten minutes, and pressed “OFF” to turn it off when I was done cooking. However, the heating element could not be turned off and continued to heat. I had not realized that for while until the element became unusually hot. Even the stove top was dangerously hot. We had to unplug the range to stop that. Since then, every time I plug in the unit, the element heats up and there is no way to turn it off. This range is a very dangerous fire hazard.

My Kenmore oven, model # 66595014102 and serial #RN0232931, was in use yesterday afternoon to bake bread. Without any warning, the broiler turned on and caught the bread on fire. I shut the oven off, only to discover a few minutes later that the oven was continuing to get hotter. The broiler continued to heat up and glow red hot. I turned off the breaker. A few minutes later, I truned the breaker back on, and the broiler turned on again!! In order to turn the broiler off, I had to unplug the appliance. My 13 yr old son is home alone through the week when I am at work and makes himself pizza & nuggets in the oven. I can’t imagine what might have happened if this incident had occurred when he was home alone!!!

August 18th, 2013 caller and his wife were planning to bake peach muffins and were pre heating their oven. His wife was still in the kitchen when the oven began smoking and sparking. She saw four to six inch flames that were coming from the rear of the range where the plug ins are attached to the range. She went immediately to the breaker room and flipped the breakers off. Callers have not tried to flip the breakers back on and have no desire to take that chance with the range. Oven was in home when they purchased it in 2005.
There have been no injuries. Caller contacted the manufacturer August 19th, 2013 and was advised to contact CPSC.

Model number: 790-46803-991
Serial number: NF9441xxxx, purchased on 5/1/2000.
Stove burners come on sporadically, after having been turned off. This identically matches the symptoms that prompted the recall of Kenmore Elite stoves listed at: http://www.cpsc.gov/en/Recalls/2009/Frigidaire-and-Kenmore-Smoothtop-Electric-Ranges-Recalled-Due-to-Fire-Hazard, originally issued 8/27/2009
The model number of the stove is not included in the range of recalled model numbers, however the symptoms match the recall report precisely:
“Hazard: Depending on the model, the surface heating elements can: 1) turn on spontaneously without being switched on; 2) fail to turn off after being switched off; or, 3) heat to different temperatures than selected. This poses a fire and burn hazard to consumers.”
Online research shows this issue is not restricted to the range of model numbers shown on the recall page, but indicate that the recall should be much broader in scope.

I purchased a Kenmore Electric Stove from Sears in August of 2007. On July 30, 2013, at approximately 11:15 p.m., I heard a noise in the kitchen, when I went to check what happened I discovered that the glass on the oven door had shattered and there was glass all over my kitchen floor. I had not used the stove at all on the 30th, nor was I even in the kitchen when this happened. After speaking with Sears, I felt that they thought I had somehow caused this glass to shatter.

The product, in the report: Electric oven range
Caller is reporting that he has had no problems with his smoothtop electric range purchased August 2nd, 2007 until the past six to ten months.
Sometime within this time range the front right burner first began staying on when the knob was turned to off and during this time and during cooking time the temperature would fluctuate up and down by itself.
Several months after the first burner began being unable to be turned off or controlled the back right burner began performing in the same manner.
About one month before this report the back left burner began working only on high, it fluctuates on higher temperatures, doesn’t go to lower temperatures.
The back right burner and the left back burner can sometimes be turned off using the knob.
There are no injuries being reported
Caller contacted the manufacturer in late 2012, then again August 14th, 2013 and was advised that his specific electric range is not recalled but he can pay for repair.

About 12-18 months ago, we turned off our oven after baking in it. We noticed a smell and heat still coming from the oven a little while later. Although it still indicated that it was turned off, the oven had actually switched on to the broil setting. Items on the top of the stove were very hot and the wall behind the stove was heating up as well. Our repairman told us he thought it was a one time computer glitch. 3 weeks ago, the same thing happened again. We turned it off at the box and bought a new stove.

The product, in the report: Self-Cleaning Electric Range
Yesterday (Thu. July 25, 2013) I preheated oven to 400F in order to bake a pizza. After the temperature was reached I inserted the pizza from the fridge. After approximately 5 minutes I smelled something and went in the kitchen and noticed smoke coming out the range. I wasn’t able to open it, it was like when you set-up self cleaning process that lasts up to 3 hours and the door is looked all the time. The display showed some gibberish signs and I new I had to trip the breaker. After the power was cut the range remained locked and after I came home(10 hours later) I switched the range back “on line”. I was able to open the stove and remove burned pizza and noticed the heating elements of the owen are getting red again. I had to cut power to the range one more time.

The product, in the report: electric smoothtop range with oven
The range/oven was in the off position and had not been used for 3 or more days.
The consumer and her husband was away from the home at the time of the incident. However, her adult daughter called her and told her that the oven door had exploded. When the consumers arrived home, they saw that glass was spread out across the kitchen floor (approx. 5’). The glass broke into real tiny pieces.
There are approx. 3” of metal on the sides of the oven door and approx. 7” of metal on the bottom of the oven door. The consumer measured it and the glass and it 13” x 24”. There is an outer glass and an inner glass on the oven door. The inner glass remained in-tact.
The consumer has never had any problems with the range/oven before and it has never been serviced.
The consumer’s husband called the retailer today and they initially advised him to call a service tech. to come out and repair the unit. The call was disconnected and the consumer said that her husband called them a 2nd time. The husband was on the phone with the retailer at the time this report was being filed.
The consumer said that on average, they use the oven approximately once every 2 – 3 weeks.

kenmore oven model # 665 95002102 I was using the broiler in the oven. Turned the panel off and walked away. Several minutes later I smell something burning but look at the ovens control panel and it shows it is off. Several more minutes go by and the smell is worse, this time I look again and realize the oven is glowing. The broiler elements were on and would not go off. We turned it on and then off and they still wouldn’t go off. We finally had to flip the breaker.

I was baking in my Kenmore 4.9 c.u smoothtop electric oven, and the broiler turned on by default during the bake cycle. Smoke came bellowing out of my oven, i had to have my husband evacuate my 2 small children because of the smoke. I went to turn the oven off, and IT WOULDNT TURN OFF! I had to run to the basement, find the fuse box and kill the power to the whole house. This oven could have burnt my whole house down if I hadnt been sitting in my kitchen having lunch at the time of the defcect. who makes a product that when it malfunctions doesnt just shut down! I cant believe this. I then called Sears and they said it wasnt really their problem because I didnt have a warranty.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Electric Range 790
I had cooked chicken nuggets in our Kenmore oven this afternoon and shut the oven off and a few minutes later the oven glass door shattered. I was standing right next to it and I could not believe that glass was all over.....thank god my 3 year old daughter had just left the kitchen area. She was in the fridge just a second before it exploded and my other 2 kids were in the other room. My poor dog was scared to death but no one was injured!
I called Sears and they said they have never heard of this happening. My warranty is expired bought it December 2010. I paid the $269.00 for a Sears guy to come out next week to fix it. I called Kenmore but all they kept doing was transferring me to Sears and told me that I had to contact the place that the appliance was purchased. I love Kenmore but this is not right that they will not even listen to my concerns. I checked online and Sears is completely aware of this by all the complaints but they told me over and over that they have never heard of this happening.

My daughter called me and said her Range was burning. She was cooking a pizza in the oven and she could smell fire. The stove stopped working. She pulled the range away from the wall and unplugged it. I went over and took the range out of the house so any fire would not burn the house. When I got the range outside I looked at the back of the range and the little door that the power cord went in I could see where it had burnt. I opened it up and the red wire where it had been connected was all burn together. The other two wires were not bad. This is a Kenmore Electric range Cook Top. The product, in the report: Glass-top electric range
All four burners on the range come on and off at will when the range is plugged into an electrical outlet. There is no way to control them except to go outside and tum off the electrical breaker switch. I could not pull the stove out to unplug it. I was fortunate that I noticed the weird and dangerous activity before the kitchen caught fire. I could have been badly burned and/or my home could have caught fire. I cannot begin to tell you my panicked reaction and disbelief such a thing could occur. I called a repair person and he said the control panel was damaged. Costs would be $230 for a new panel. I had to pay him $40 for his having come out to my home (not from Sear’s.) In the mean time, I had to buy an electric skillet and a [slow cooker] in order to eat. When I called Sears they forwarded me to Kenmore. Kenmore had technicians who could do the repairs, but I would have had to buy a new control panel and would be charged a service call. The stove was new when I bought my home in 2009 (contractor purchased and installed.) His name is [REDACTED] . He is listed in the 2013 San Luis Valley phone directory.

I decided to bake potatoes before leaving for work. I was near the stove when the timer was about to go off and noticed an error message. I shut the oven off and left the room. A short time later my husband smelled something burning and asked if I had shut the oven. When we went to the kitchen, the broiler was on full heat and my potatoes were burned. The only way to shut the oven was by flipping the circuit breaker. The next day we decided to try the stove top assuming the problem only affected the oven. After using a burner and shutting it off, once again, the broiler came on full heat. The heat was more intense than I have ever seen it. This could have been a disaster if I had left for work immediately after shutting either the oven or the stove top.

The consumer says that she went to the retailer/manufacturer and showed them what is happening via a display model at the store.
With just a small amount of pressure, the racks dropped one level without the unit being on. The consumer says that this occurs more frequently with the oven on. The consumer says that she has a roaster that is fairly heavy that causes the racks to drop.
She says she has had the roaster for 30 years and has never had this happen before. She says that when cooking something smaller or not as heavy, the racks stay in place.

The consumer stated that when she woke up in the morning, she noticed that the oven door glass (the middle one) had shattered all over the kitchen floor. The oven was turned off overnight, and the consumer and her husband had last used the oven 3 weeks prior to the incident. The consumer stated that the outside and the inside glass to the oven door are fine, just few scratches on its inner sides from the middle glass shattering. The consumer stated that there are still some shards of glass stuck in between the outer and inner glasses. Also, she stated that the clips holding the middle glass are visible and there is a lot of space between the outer and inner glasses.
The consumer has not used the oven since the incident occurred.
The consumer stated that the retailer’s technician came out to see the oven. The consumer was informed by the retailer that she would have to pay for the inspection fee of $185 if the glasses are still intact since the consumer does not have a warranty on the product. If the glasses are not intact, the retailer would not charge her an inspection fee. After inspection, the technician told the consumer that she would have to pay the bill since the outer and inner glasses were still intact. The technician also told the consumer that they conducted middle glass replacements all the time, and it is not a safety hazard to use the oven without the middle glass. The technician also informed her that if she wants to use the oven she may do so since the outer and inner glasses were still intact.
The consumer also stated that there are visible wires underneath her oven. The consumer was told by the retailer’s technician that the visible wires are normal. The consumer does not trust the words of the technician.
The consumer also contacted the fire marshal of her city and he informed her to not use the product even though the technician informed her that she could. The fire marshal told the consumer that there could be explosion or fire if she used the product. The consumer stated that the fire marshal is supposed to come out and look at her oven.
The product is not included in any recalls.

I feel there should be a recall on the Kenmore stove Model #790.95309102 Serial # VF22219821. My daughter tried cooking a pizza in the oven and after a few minutes the broiler came on and wouldn’t shut off. The oven kept heating up and burned the pizza. No matter what she pushed on the stove, the broiler kept heating up. Luckily my husband was there so he could shut off the breaker because she didn’t know how to do that. When we turned the stove back on the broiler kept heating up and wouldn’t shut off again. Now we have to get a new stove because the repairs are almost as much as a new one per the repair department at Sears. I feel this is a fire hazard, especially since it keeps heating up and won’t shut off.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite Smooth-top, Electronic Control Range and Oven
Walking into my kitchen on the morning of 17 June, 2013, I noticed the center heating element of the multiple size elements on my Kenmore Elite Electric Smooth-top Range was on. Upon getting closer, I noticed the range was off, and the element was giving off an extreme amount of heat. Turning the other elements on, then off did not resolve the problem. I immediately turned the range breaker off to disconnect the power to the range. After 30 minutes, I turned the range breaker back on to see if this corrected the problem. However, the center heating element spontaneously turned itself back on. After this point, I turned the breaker back off, and called a repair man. The repair technician stated the problem could not be fixed due the electronic controls of the range. Therefore, a new range had to be purchased.
