    My oven door glass window exploded spontaneously while I was baking a hotdish at 350 degrees. I was watching TV in the living room. I was nowhere near the oven. I cannot remember the exact purchase date. Been a great oven all these years but scared me. Sounded like a gunshot. The glass shattered. Some fell out. Some of the door stayed untact but shattered.

    On July 23, 2026, I was using my Kenmore Elite electric range (Model 790.41053101, Serial NF40625506) to toast bread on a flat pizza pan using the oven.

    While the oven was operating, I observed intense electrical arcing coming from the bottom interior of the oven cavity. The arcing continued continuously and did not stop until I manually turned the oven off. At no time did the home’s circuit breaker trip or otherwise disconnect power to the appliance.

    The electrical arcing was severe enough to melt completely through the bottom of the oven cavity, leaving a hole in the interior floor of the oven. I have photographs documenting the damage.

    Based on what I observed, I believe the arcing would have continued indefinitely had I not turned the oven off. Because the circuit breaker did not trip, I am concerned that the appliance could have overheated and started a kitchen fire, creating a significant fire hazard.

    There were no personal injuries, but the appliance sustained extensive damage and is no longer safe to use. I am submitting this report because I believe this represents a serious electrical safety defect that could pose a fire risk to other consumers.

    While I was cooking, a short circuit occurred in the range’s wiring, causing a fire to start. Fortunately, we were nearby and were able to quickly extinguish the flames.

    Oven temperature went up to 500 on its own, and could not be turned off. Burnt my pizza to a blackened crisp, buckled and charred the pizza pan, melted my oven glove trying to remove it. The whole house filled with smoke and set off my smoke alarms. I tried every button to try turn it off to no avail. I had to pull the hot oven out from the wall and unplug it so it wouldn’t start a fire.

Fortunately, a fire did not ignite and no one was physically injured although emotionally affected. The smell of hot electronics permeates the home.

    Front left “turbo” burner of Kenmore stove turned itself on during the middle of the night. The knob was turned to ‘off,’ the stove had not been used since around 2:30 p.m., and the stovetop was cool to the touch all afternoon and evening. Only discovered this because had gotten up to turn down the air conditioner and heard loud clicking sound coming from the kitchen. The burner was bright red and very hot. This could have burned the house down had anything been on or near the stovetop.     My husband had made some food on the stove in a covered cast iron kettle. When done he turned the stove off so the food could cool before placing in the refrigerator. Went outside to finish a project we were working on which took about 3 hours. Came into the house and the house was filled with smoke! The smoke was coming from the covered kettle that we left to cool on the stove! The kettle burnt right into the glass on the electric stove. This stove turned on itself and was cooking! This has not been the first time this has happened either, we thought we were going crazy and thinking we left the stove on, but.. that was not the case! I have had professional carpet and furniture cleaners come in, I had do wash all of my walls, wash and clean everything in my home, its very hard to get the smoke smell out of things especially anything with cloth!     I thought my husband left the stove top on he said he did not. He turned it off. This happened a few times and then I was in the kitchone evenand I. Went to set something on my stovertop, and it was very Hot and burnt me. It had turned itself on. This started a few years ago, then just recently. I noticed my food getting done sooner than it was supposed to and being a little Burnt.. And then the last time I still had 22 minutes left on my timer for my food. What’s outside? Do it in yard work and I heard my smoke alarm. I ran in the house. My house was full of smoke. The stove was so hot. I couldn’t get close enough to even turn it off. I had to run to the breaker and turn the breaker off. Smoke damage. And the saddest part of it all. It was my granddaughter’s first birthday daughter was having it here. Her cake got burnt. The food got burnt. And we had to have all company outside at all times and try and deal. With the situation in the house II was really upset. I wasn’t able to enjoy my granddaughter’s first birthday as much as I should have been able to.

For example, if I set the radiant surface element temperature at 4, the heating element at some point randomly gets extremely high, hotter than even if set on HI. This random change to High is a burn hazard, burns the food, and is a fire risk. Cooking must be monitored 100% of the time. Changing temperature doesn’t stop the burner from reaming hot.     The surface heating element/burner spontaneously heats to high and then won’t turn off. There’s no rhyme or reason; I can be cooking on any other temperature and the element will just go to high on it’s own and then I struggle to get it to turn off and usually have to go hit the breaker to turn it off. It’s a Kenmore stove with range model 790.96021405; serial number VF64355142. This is a know issue as there were Kenmore Elite stoves recalled for the same exact issue in 2009, but never issued for the “lower” models. This has happened continuously since I bought my house in 2009. The last time it happened was yesterday and the pan I was cooking caught fire bc I didn’t realize it happened right away and there was bacon grease in the pan that must have popped and flamed up. I was able to put the fire out quickly as I have an extinguisher next to the stove specifically for this reason though this is the first time a pan has ever caught fire. I’m not even sure how to repair it.

    I was getting a skillet out of the oven onmy Kenmore glass top stove to fry some apples, opened the door to get the skillet out, placed it on top of stove, started to walk to frig to get the apples and the entire tempered glass on the front of the oven exploded scattering over several rooms of the house. The oven wasn’t even lit. I’m glad I wasn’t standing directly in front of it or I would have been cut badly. I have never been so shocked in my entire life. People need to be aware of this situation especially if they have kids in the house. My husband and I are elderly so we didn’t have kids around. We did have two dogs close by but luckily I got them into another room to keep them from being cut.

    11/2020 The range was in the home when the consumer moved in (11/2020). Therefore, he does not know when it was purchased or where it was purchased from. He did not see or provide a date of manufacture off the product.

    1/2022: The consumer’s mother-in-law, turned the front-right, range burner on and when she finished, it stayed on. The consumer said that when the burner was turned off, it remained on. Also, if the front right burner was turned on a low setting, it jumped to a high setting. The consumer has unplugged the range from the wall outlet for days. However, if he plugged it back into the wall outlet, that burner, will automatically turn on, even with the control knob in the off position.

    In light of the safety issue, they have discontinued use of the range.

    The consumer contacted the manufacturer for CPSC Recall# 09-333 and it was confirmed that the range is included in the recall. However, the consumer has been waiting since January for assistance with resolving this issue

    I was using the cleaning function on my Kenmore electric stove. The stove is only 2-1/2 yes old. About 1/2 way in the cleaning process the stove made a loud popping noise then sounded like and smelled like something was burning. Went out to the kitchen and found that the tempered glass on the inside of the oven had exploded and shattered. Earlier in the day when I was cooking the side of the stove that Butts up to the cabinet the counter top was very hot. This never happened with my old stove. The countertop never got hot. I immediately turned the cleaning function to off but the glass continued to shatter and it was making a sizzling noise like it was burning. It was in the locked mode which you can not unlock until the oven cools down. The glass continued to shatter the outside glass was extremely hot almost as of it was burning. I realized when pulling out the drawer the floor is actually burned black under the stove legs. If I had not been in the other room and was able to turn this off when it started I do believe it would have caught my kitchen on fire. I kept smelling something burning but did not realize it was my floor

    A couple years ago, the oven racks began falling down, when food was placed on them. The consumer has tried different methods to address the issue, but none has been successful. He bought replacement racks directly from the firm and the same thing happened.

    He even tried stretching one of the racks he purchased and that seemed to help for a while, but eventually it began to fail, just like the others.

    The consumer has contacted the manufacturer 5 or more times about this issue, but they have never offered to do anything for him. Their rep. directed him to recalls.com.

    The consumer said that the racks fell on different occasions and he sustained minor burns at different times, and he was able to treat himself at home. However, he’s extremely caustions that this can happen.

    The consumer moved into the home 2015 and the range was already in there.

    The consumer turned the (front right burner-if facing range) burner on and it jumped to the highest setting, and could not be turned it off. The consumer had to trip the breaker in order to shut off the range.

    9/26/2021: They consumer contacted the manufacturer (Tel: 800-469-9443) and their rep. (name unavailable) confirmed that the range was part of CPSC Recall# 09-333. The manufacturer arranged for a technician to examine the consumer’s range. The technician was able to disconnect that specific burner, and permit her to use the others. However, she no longer feels safe about using this range.

    During the first week of October 2021, the same technician confirmed that the manufacturer no longer made parts for this range and could not repair it. The consumer claimed that the technician then told her that the manufacturer is required to replace the stove, since it can’t be repaired.

    While baking the front left burner shattered and some glass hit my daughter’s left arm causing a burn and a cut

    (approx.) 7/4/2021: A crack started at the front left burner and now the crack extends back to the middle of the glass range top surface. A second crack has developed from the back of the range top to the middle. The consumer’s 32 year old daughter sustained minor cuts on her left arm, but no medical treatment was done. The front left range burner was in use at the time, but the daughter quickly cut it off. She sustained the cuts, while cleaning the range. All cracks and mess came from left front burner they didn’t come from the back, they extended to the back

    Back in July/August 2021, the consumer tried to find a phone number for the dealer’s company, but the phone number is no longer in service. If she is able to find a working phone number for the manufacturer, she will contact them.

    indicator lights above the five heating surfaces on the smooth top do NOT always light up when heating initiated, nor do they always go out when turned to OFF.     The product, in the report: Kenmore Electric Range with Oven

    The oven was in the “off” position, when the consumer heard a loud noise. She went into the kitchen and saw that the oven door had shattered. There were sharp, jagged pieces of glass, in small and large sizes and some as small as grains of sand.

    There were no injuries. The oven was last used approximately 2 days ago.

    8/2020: The consumer moved into the home and the appliance was already in the home.

    She did not see a model or serial number, but may add information, when she receives the report.

    While the consumer was filing this report with the CPSC, she tried over pull the oven door open, to check for the model & serial number, but the handle detached completely.

    There was only 1 pane of glass on the oven door and the consumer cannot see directly into the oven. Glass over the door.

    There have been 2 incidents of the range turning on, by itself.

    In January or February, 2021, the consumer came into the kitchen one morning to find the range on, but the control in the off position. He unplugged it and plugged it back into the wall outlet and it seemed okay. Two weeks later, the same thing happened again.

    Around, March 2021, the consumer called the manufacturer and a rep. (name unknown) scheduled a recall service appointment on 4/22/2021. Someone in the home waited for the technician that day, but a tech. never came out. The consumer called the firm again to see what happened. He was told that they are still waiting for the part to arrive.

    His appointment was scheduled between 1:00pm – 5:00pm on 4/22/2021. When he asked what happened with the tech & the part on that day, he was told that his appointment was only a tentative date and did not guarantee that a technician was coming out on that day.

    The firm’s recall service company, [REDACTED] provided the consumer with Order# [REDACTED].

    Almost 30 days have passed since that time and the firm has not contacted him or provided an estimated repair day.

    This could have led to a house fire.

    My Kenmore freestanding electric range oven outer glass door shattered to pieces and small particles of glass splattered out 3 feet while the oven was on 375 degrees. The oven had only been on for 20 minutes with 15 of those minutes in the preheating stage. The glass also fell into the storage drawer in the bottom of the range where we store our pots. The Kenmore model number is 790.92303013 Serial Number VF21255221. We bought it brand new from Sears seven years ago after just our wedding. This was quite dangerous as my husband was standing with his back to the oven just 2 feet directly in front of it slicing apples. Fortunately he was wearing shoes and had his thick work long pants on and was not injured. I was standing 1 foot off to the left side of the oven with a step stool in my hand which I was getting ready to place in front of the oven so I could reach up in the cabinet and get the cinnamon spice for our apple crisp that we were preparing. I was not injured. Needless to say it was dangerous as there were jagged pieces of glass all over the floor, glass was hanging down from the top and up from the bottom of the oven that we had to pull out because we needed to get our pots out of the storage drawer. We purchased a new [REDACTED] stove from [REDACTED] yesterday because I am not going to replace that oven glass as my husband suggested which he said would be a significant cost savings to us because I don’t want to ever experience that horror and mess again. Cost me $750 for a new stove. As we carried the stove through the house last night to put it out for the [REDACTED] man to carry off, glass was still falling from it and I had small pieces of glass from my kitchen to my porch which I swept with a broom, then vacuumed and somehow my husband managed to still find a small piece of glass an hour later while preparing to go to bed because he stepped on it barefooted. The glass poked his foot but it did not bleed. People need to be warned about this. There needs to be a recall.

    I turned the oven on to 200 to keep warm food I was preparing on the stove top. When I put the items in the oven, the items burned to a crisp. I immediately shut off oven but it did not go off. The heat was so high that when I removed the pan from the oven and put it on a wood board, the board was burned. Had to shut off the oven by using the electrical breaker in the electrical panel box. This happened to my Kenmore electric range model #7909280211. Saw that similar Kenmore range had a similar issue with their stove top. Thank God I was standing right there and watching this and not in another room. Easily would have had a fire.

    The front right burner (when facing the range) began developing problems.

    In order for the burner to come on, the consumer had to turn it to the “high” setting. Once the burner turned on, she could decrease the temperature. She did not have to do this with any of the other burners. She worked with the burner for the past year or longer.

    (approx.) 11/18/2020, the consumer called the manufacturer and discussed the matter with them. They offered the consumer a warranty, which she purchased. The mfr. sent a technician out and he told her he could repair it, but the electrical panel would cost $1500.00. The consumer did not accept that offer. The technician wrote that the consumer declined that option and he left.

    The consumer originally paid $1572.28, for the range and this included delivery charges.

    The consumer said that someone gave her information about a recall on a similar range, that was made by this manufacturer, but it started with [REDACTED].

    There have not been any injuries associated with this problem, with the consumer’s range.

    Just to clarify, the left top burner is not included in the report. It turns on automatically and does not turn off. It’s a fire hazard. I had to turn off the entire range at the breaker to avoid the top left burner turning on by itself. There’s been similar recalls that can be searched and confirmed on the web with their Electrolux Kenmore Elite Ranges sold exclusively at Sears due to Fire and Burn Hazards.

    Using the Kenmore Elite convection & Broiler oven, the interior walls of the oven have bowed outwards causing the the racks to fall under weight. We had a very bad incident this Thanksgiving when trying to remove our turkey and the racks under it fell through causing extremely hot turkey juices to splash up at me. I received some burns on my forearms and neck. Luckily the burns were not serious, but this is a major problem. I have researched online and found that this is a widespread issue with this oven.

    our Kenmore smooth top stove/oven was preheating “as normal operations require” without a “Normal Beep” (Beep confirming Pre-heat Completed ) the Oven continues too heat, and an “Odor”(metal overheating) began to come from the oven compartment. Our unit is Model Number # 790.92604016 Serial # VF31639631, Unsure that we may have inadvertently pressed “Oven Clean” mode, we attempted to shut down the oven unit using the Control panel Controls. this did not work !! the Oven unit Dangerously overheated out of control. We Could not turn the oven off by using the control panel at “ALL”.. The malfunctioning oven continued to heat to a extremely HOT and dangerous level, “UNCONTROLLABLE”. we needed to turn the breaker off in the Basement, in order to shut the oven down the unit.     Kenmore smooth top double oven range: Approximately 3 years old. Cooking brownies in the top oven and hanging out in the kitchen, we heard a loud pop and electrical ‘fizzing’ noise, accompanied by a fire inside the oven. Since we were right there, I was able to power off the oven immediately, while my daughter went to the garage and flipped the breaker. Smoke poured from the oven vents for about 10 minutes as we observed to be sure there was no more fire. Once the smoke cleared and the oven cooled a bit, we opened it and saw that there was hole in the bottom metal of the oven, where the flame had come through from the elements below. A repair person stopped by briefly and indicated that this unit should never ever be plugged in again and that a fire to cause a hole in the metal bottom would have had to be 1000 degrees or so. It’s important to note that if we hadn’t been standing right there to shut everything off immediately, this would have resulted in a house fire.

    The oven was set to preheat up to 400 degrees. There was an arc and a flames flashed outside the rear of the oven.. No range burners were being used at the time. The incident occurred within 6 minutes of turning the oven on.

    The husband tried to turn the oven off using the controls, but he could not. He went outside and tripped the breaker to stop the oven. There was no damage to the wall behind the oven.

    The consumer called the manufacturer (Tel: 800-469-4663) and informed them about incident. Their rep. told her that it would cost $129.00 for a service technician to come out and the repair cost could be determined afterwards. The consumer asked for the Recall Dept. and was placed back into their phone system. She spoke with another rep., who reiterated the same thing.

    The caller indicates she is a Deputy Fire Marshal for Danbury Fire Department and on 10/11/2020 they received a call for a possible oven fire. There was no active fire but the unit was set to 400 degrees F and stayed on 400 degrees F even when the consumer tried to turn the oven off. The Fire Department arrived and turned off the breakers and advised the consumer not to turn the unit back on until it was repaired or replaced.

    The glass oven door on my Kenmore electric range spontaneously shattered. The oven and stove had not been used since the day before and nothing touched the door when it happened. My daughter was in the kitchen at the time about 4 feet away when a loud boom sounded and a huge chunk of the glass door had shattered and fallen to the floor in front of the oven. Over the next several minutes additional chunks of glass fell off the door and fell to the floor.

    We purchased a Kenmore Double Wall Oven through Sears in 2014. We NEVER use the self-clean feature on the oven as many reports have indicated that the temperatures are too hot and potentially damage the electronics. The oven is five years old, and the walls have expanded resulting in the oven racks falling through to the bottom. A Sears technician came out to service the oven, and he indicated that the actual walls are warped/expanded which is the cause of the grates falling through to the bottom. I have had several hot pots fall through when I have tried to remove the pot resulting in significant burns from the splashed, hot gravies/food. The expansion of the walls is a serious safety flaw and clearly not the result of any negligence or misuse by the owner.

    My Kenmore double oven electric range Model 790.9805: Oven racks in the lower oven keep collapsing after I did a self-cleaning cycle. This cleaning cycle was done WITHOUT any racks in the oven, as it is recommended in the user manual. This is a grave safety issue and this item should be recalled and replaced immediately.
