The product, in the report: kenmore double oven range
Kenmore electric range front glass door exploded sending glass all over the kitchen - no one in room and no animals are in our house. The oven was NOT on and it shattered sending the glass from one end to another in the kitchen. When we contacted SEARS we were told by service writer - “there was no reason for it to happen if the heat was not on” - guess what--even if heat was on - it should not happen!! no technician is available for a few days and i know when they come they will not have our part with them to repair!!!

(10/12/2014) The consumer stated that she was cooking her dinner. Eight minutes before the end of the cooking time, the timer clock changed and indicated F3. The oven started glowing red. Extreme heat was flowing from all areas of the oven. The oven door locked. She looked at the display which indicated cLn-cooL. This indicated that the oven had gone into the cleaning cycle. The consumer tried to hit the off-cancel button to do a safety shut-off. But it would not respond. The consumer stated that the oven was so hot she had to use oven mitts. The power had to be disconnected at the circuit breaker.
(10/12/2014) The consumer contacted Sears. A dispatch was set up for 10/14/2014.
(10/14/2014) The technician came out. His name was [REDACTED]. He pulled the oven out from the wall, and open the back to expose the circuit. He went to the breaker to turn the power back on. Immediately, the oven went to broil. The dispatcher wrote in his notes that the temperature probe open to EOC-EOC shorted out-Broil is on all the time. The consumer was advised that the connector to the circuit board failed.
(10/14/2014) The consumer’s husband called the company and advised them of what happened. He was advised that they would email them a 10% off coupon or have a technician come out to service the oven. I purchased my Kenmore smooth top oven from Sears. The oven temperature soared so high, my food and the oven caught fire. So, I unplugged the oven from the electrical outlet. After a few hours I plugged it back in and the temperature soared extremely high again and then it kicks off and flashes numbers on the digital display.

The product, in the report: 3 year old Kenmore stainless steel electric range
Glass door on Kenmore range exploded. Hot, shattered glass all over the floor, in a house full of children and pets.
Kenmore will not replace because it is out of warranty (3 years old). However, they tried very hard to sell me 1-year service protection plan for $239.99.
The Customer Service representative asked if the oven got too hot. This is an oven, folks, the darned things get hot - biscuits hot! What kind of question is that?
I will be filing complaints every place possible.

(10/06/2014) The consumer stated that she had turned on the oven and set it to 350 degrees. In a matter of seconds she heard a crackling sound. She thought that it was the radio. She called her husband to tell him about the incident. When he came home, he pulled the stove from the wall and discovered that the attachment that goes into the circuit plate on the stove was burned.
(10/07/2014) The consumer sent an email to Sears to advised them of the incident. She has not received a response. The consumer is replacing the stove but will take pictures.

The product, in the report: Stainless steel electric oven with black glass range top
I was using my Kenmore 790.9742 electric oven last night at 350 degrees F, when the front glass of the oven exploded. I had opened the oven and took out my pan, closed the oven door, and was stirring my dinner when the glass shattered. It was purchased in 2010 from Sears so it was only 4 years old. The glass covered the entire kitchen floors and no pieces were left unbroken. No one was hurt because I cleaned the glass up as fast as possible but some of the broken glass is stuck in the track where the glass had been so I could not get everything cleaned up. I have contacted Kenmore and explained this problem as well.

The product, in the report: Four Burner Electric range
Caller is reporting his Kenmore electric range purchased 06/15/2010 EST.
Callers had no problems with it until October 1st, 2014 around 8:00AM when the caller’s wife was in bed she heard a noise she can only compare to shattered glass.
She got up and went to the kitchen where she thought it came from and saw that the outer door of her oven had exploded and there was glass from the range out over the floor 7 feet away from the range.
There are no injuries being reported
Callers contacted the manufacturer today, October 1st, 2014 and were advised that there is a one year warranty on the range and that had expired.
The manufacturer advised the callers that any repair would be at the consumer’s expense.
The consumer states that this is not a normal warranty problem, that he would like to be reimbursed by the manufacturer if he has paid to have the outer glass to his oven repaired or that repair be scheduled at manufacturer expense.

The product, in the report: Kenmore smooth top kitchen stove (electric)
Stove oven element does not turn off after off button is pressed. The light goes out indicating the stove is off but I felt it the next morning and the oven was still on even though there were no indicator lights indicating that it was on. This seems to be the same problem listed under a recall issued by the CPSC for Kenmore stoves sold between June 2001 through August 2009, which this is. The model number on my stove is 79096212404 and the serial number is VF52044202. The recall was originally issued August 27, 2009 by the CPSC and can be found at:

The product, in the report: Electric Oven
Consumer stated that she is experiencing problems with oven racks. Whenever she is baking in the oven the racks tend to collapse which is very dangerous and can cause burn hazard to the user. She stated that she had noticed numerous complaints online and does not why there has not been a recall as yet.
This incident has been ongoing for a year. She has not received any service calls since. She has contacted the retailer 10/2013 and at least 4 times after about this issue but each time they were charging her to send a technician out but she did not feel that she should be charged for a manufacturer’s defect.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Stove Model # 790.96009600 Serial # VF64037928
We own a Kenmore stove that is exhibiting the same problems as the stoves that were recalled in 2009. However, our model and serial number are not in the range of recalled stoves.
The two large burners will sometimes go into high mode even when the selector switch is on low. They also fail to shut off when the switch is turned off. The high mode seems to be hotter than even the highest setting. The front left burner has powered on even with the switch in the off position.
Model # 790.96009600 Serial # VF64037928
We have contacted Kenmore previously and they said that they could not help due to the stove not being in the recall range. I believe this to be a fire hazard and Kenmore refuses to acknowledge the problem.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Electric Range Smooth top Self Clean oven Convection
While baking some cookies at 350 degrees, the glass on the oven door suddenly exploded and widely scattered in front of the stove. After I stopped shaking, I called the department store for repair. While cleaning up the mess, the service man said he had “seen this happen before” in other homes. Fortunately, the range was still under warranty so it was only necessary for us to pay the service charge for his visit and no more than that.
My stove is no longer under warranty. It is now not yet 4 year fours old. Recently while I was using the top of the stove to pan fry, the glass on the door suddenly exploded again! The oven was not even on!
The main safety issue here is that a child or a pet could easily have been injured in my kitchen. The department store says that since the “warranty has expired” we must now pay to have the glass replaced and re installed. Is any of this fair? There must be a way to contact the manufacturers of the oven glass! There must be a way to make oven doors safe again! It seems we cannot purchase a new range that does NOT already have a glass window in the door, and so we are stuck with the stove we now own. We have NO guarantee that it will not explode again!

Hi,
We own a Kenmore Electric Range, 790.96009601.
We’ve had a lot of trouble with the range top heating higher than where we set it, and then getting stuck on high and not turning off (to the point that we have to pull out and unplug the entire appliance).
I saw that several of the 790s have been recalled for this very problem, but our serial number was not included.

The stove glass exploded.
My wife was heating the oven to 450* and the front glass exploded. This is a Kenmore 790.92803010. This stove is out of warranty - it is about 4 years old. I called Sears and they refused to cover this under any sort of an extenuating circumstance special-case warranty. They offered to send a service person or sell me an extended warranty, all at a cost, but did not admit fault.
It was very dangerous to have hundreds of pieces of glass on the floor.

Glass shattered for the second time in two years. Purchased Kenmore Elite oven (Model 790.97473805) in 2010. Glass shattered Dec-2012 and was replaced by A&E certified tech. Glass shattered for second time August-2014. Oven was operating at normal temps (350) both times. We contacted Sears via on-line social networking and then continued our communication with Sears via email.
The Facebook social network representative said “... this sounds like a hazard.”
Sears Member Experience Manager via email said : “I as well would be very nervous for the safety of my home if this has happened twice.”
Sears offered to replace the glass for free or offer 30% off a new appliance. We are asking for a full appliance replacement. This is apparently a safety hazard. Having the glass replaced does not resolve the defect as this has happened to us on two occasions. Two shattered glass incidents in less than two years is unacceptable. This is a DEFECT and a SAFETY HAZARD and has happened TWICE.
We have written to [REDACTED], [REDACTED], asking for resolution.

My Kenmore stove front right burner will spike to high while using(This has happened on numerous occasions). When trying to turn down, it will not reducing in temperature. We have had to unplug in order to get the burner to cool. Today August 23, 2014, I noticed the hot surface light was on. We had not used our stove or oven in 24 hours. I unplugged the unit and the surface will not cool. While researching this issue, I came across several recalls for this brand of units. I also came across a ton of this brand that have the same issues that are NOT on the recall list. They should be. Someone could be seriously injured or their house could be burned down!

I have a Sear’s Kenmore ceramic cooktop. I use it very infrequently, but I notice on most occasions that the eyes sometimes will not turn off. Also, even if I have the controls set on a very low setting, it stays on high setting. Turning the controls to OFF sometimes do not turn the eyes off. I generally have to turn the cooktop off by turning off the breaker in the electrical panel. This to me is a very dangerous situation. Sear’s is not interested in fixing the problem at their cost. Disregard the incident date below; this problem has been going on for years.
I looked on-line and saw where others are having the same issues, some have appliances that were recalled. This cooktop needs to be recalled as well

I have a Kenmore electric range, model # 790.96113409, serial # VF64615102. The front left burner was being used at a medium heat setting, but the burner went to high. The element was constantly on, and even when we turned it off, it remained on! I had to turn off the circuit breaker to turn it off. All other burners work properly, so we just don’t use that burner any more. Today, I saw that there was a recall in 2009 on other Kenmore/Frigidaire ovens, but our unit is not part of the recall. Since our oven is having the same problem, I think our unit should be included also.
This same oven also had a code F10 (run away temp) last week. We were baking food at 350, but the broiler (top) element came on at some point and the unit shut down and the F10 error code appeared. This oven is a dangerous fire hazard!

Consumer reported the following incidents with the oven rack was not sure of dates.
1st incident: Consumer stated that she placed a pizza in the oven and moved away from the oven. After 15 minutes and from about 15 feet away she heard a loud noise coming from the kitchen. She looked in the oven and realized that the rack supporting the pizza had fallen and the pizza was sideway. The left side of the rack fell down by itself, without anyone touching it.
2nd incident: Consumer planned on cooking a casserole in a glass dish [REDACTED]. She tried to put the [REDACTED] in the oven, but the rack wouldn’t stay up. Consumer had to try multiple times until the rack finally stayed up. She was able to finish her cooking; however, she stated that the entire cooking time was filled with apprehension at the prospect of the rack falling down by itself.
3rd incident: Consumer was baking a beef roast in a roasting pan. At the end of cooking, when she pulled the rack out, the rack fell off and the cooking juices splattered the oven. Consumer believe this splattering can not only burn the operator of the oven, but also nearby family members including children since the kitchen is a gathering place. In addition, the splatter is an unnecessary cleaning burden.
The consumer stated further that every rack level has fallen down at some point or another. Consumer uses only 2 of the 3 racks provided.
The manufacturer was not contacted as yet.
Note: Consumer is filing this report to prevent a potential burn injury to other consumers. She stated that an oven is an investment, which family gather around and shouldn’t be stressful to operate.

Caller stated that the oven rack is faulty, it collapses while using it. This poses a burn hazard to the user as well as other household occupants who maybe standing nearby, or can cause a house fire. This has been on going for approximately 2 months.
7/25 The retailer was contacted and a service technician was sent out 7/30/14, she was advised that the cavity of the oven wall has expanded which causes the racks to fall. He stated that repairing this would not guarantee that the incident would not occur again. He also advised her that this is due the material that made the interior of the oven.
Caller feels that the oven is a safety hazard and should be reported

The product, in the report: Kenmore Self Cleaning Oven Model #79095660100
Kenmore Electric Range 79095660100 - oven element continued to heat up to a very high heat and would not turn off. Had to shut the breaker off, if I flip the breaker by the time I come back into the kitchen the oven is already burning very bright orange and will not shut off. I have looked online and it seems like this is a fairly common problem for Kenmore Ranges, seems like some people have actually had it cause a fire.

Had turned my Kenmore range on to convection roast 375 degrees, as it reached temperature I opened the door to put food items in. as soon as I opened the oven door I noticed that the top element for broiling was glowing red. I thought that i might have accidentally hit the broil button instead of convection roast, so I turned it off and was turning it back on when it arced and black smoke & ash came from behind the back of the control panel. When the range had cooled enough for us to pull it out from the wall, we removed the back cover and you could see were it had arced and burnt!

The product, in the report: Kenmore black and while stove. Ceramic cooktop.
I have never been treated as poorly by a company in my life. We purchased a stove on 7/2 and as soon as we got it home it had a hot surface light on when the cooktop was not being used. I called immediately to tell them of the problem and was told we would have to bring the oven back to them to be fixed. I requested a refund because we had just purchased it and it was not in working order and they refused. I was told as long as the cooktop worked the light would eventually burn out (It did not) or I could bring it back to be fixed but a refund was not an option. 3 weeks later after only using the stove a couple of times because we were on vacation we were baking dinner and the stove would not shut off. It kept getting hotter and hotter to the point it was about to catch on fire, my husband had to pull out a VERY hot stove to unplug it. We sent an email with not response on 7/26, on 7/28 we called and again said at this point we felt this was not a safe item and wanted a refund. We were told [REDACTED] would have to call us only he could authorize. He never called so I called again and he refused. He said to bring it in for repair. He became so rude he hung up on me once, I called back and he kept talking over me and would not even let me speak. He raised his voice and was the most rude business person I have ever dealt with. When I informed him I would file a complaint with the BBB and Attorney General as well as use social media to let everyone know how I was treated he responded he didn’t care that there was nothing I could do. He charged us $275 for a used stove and I found one NEW for $299. My husband took the stove back on 7/28 at 10:45am and we have pictures of them unloading the oven. I again asked for a refund and was told no he would not that he didnt care I felt unsafe and it was only a couple weeks old. I received a call a couple hours later that said the stove is now working fine and they wont refund me the money. We are now without the stove and without our refund. They literally have now stolen our money. We are very scared at the quality of this oven because of the fact it was about to catch on fire and there are other consumer reviews of the same thing happening.

The product, in the report: Sears Kenmore electric range Model number: 790-942140E; serial number VF94057673. This model has a warmer drawer at the bottom, and a simmer setting for the left front burner, self cleaning oven.
I have a Sears Kenmore electric range.. Model Number 790-9421240E; serial number VF94057673.
On 3 occasions over the last two years, when a burner is set on a medium heat setting (5 or 6) the burner goes to full hot. Twice on the right rear large burner and once on the left front large burner. The third time was today. I have changed the switches twice (and will order another one - $50 some bucks). Since it has occurred this many times it cannot be a random occurrence - it has to be a design malfunction. Any time we use the stove we have to watch it closely but if someone did not do so, there would soon be a fire in the kitchen.
In my opinion the range should be recalled and fixed by Sears.

My kenmore electric range has a mind of its own. Model number 790.96011406. It won’t shut off on the smooth top, most of the time the breaker has to be shut off. It gets stuck on high and will not change temperatures. This happens on multiple burners. I have been burnt several times by the uncontrollable temperature. This is starting to happen more frequently.

The product, in the report: Dear sears, I purchased this Kenmore Elite Electric Range model #79097473804 Sn VF94442709 From Sears in 2009.
Dear sears, I purchased this Kenmore Elite Electric Range model #79097473804 Sn VF94442709 From Sears in 2009. Since then it has been a constant failure one after another. The glass door has exploded 4 times sending glass on our legs and feet. The control panel has been replaced at least 3 times as well as over heated relays.
However on 18 July we had a new serious failure. We nearly had a fire. The house filled with smoke. The range was beeping with a flashing FLO ERR on display. It was impossible to shut the top coils OFF and the Oven could not be turned OFF. All were ON
It was too hot to get close to the stove for more than a second. I had to run and open the main breaker. I reset the breaker and the range now works. Service came the next day and ordered a new computer and control pannel at over $800 then add on a couple hundred in labor. I was told to open the breaker when I leave to prevent an un commanded ON in the range!
The problem is a design flaw! The computer is sitting on top of the stove with NO AIR flow and no fan the cool the CPU. An over heated CPU will hang. That is what we saw. with FLO ERR flashing. That means that all outputs are stuck ON holding the relays ON.
This is an unsafe product and Sears refuses to exchange it. How did UL pass this as a safe range?
I wait for your reply and any assistance you can offer

When it first happened I called Sears CSR there was no information on a safety recall. After reading on google many, many people have had the same issue. It happened again when the element was replaced. If I hadn’t been watching my oven those two times, my house would have caught on fire.

7/20/14 – The consumer had the stove oven on the bake setting for 15 minutes. She then heard the beep sound after about 30 minutes and noticed the oven was on broil. A “F3” code appeared on the display screen. The consumer attempted to turn the oven off and it would not turn off. Her husband turned off the stove off at circuit breaker and waited for an hour and half before turning the breaker back on. When he turned the breaker back on the oven was on broil. She attempted to turn the oven off but it would not turn off. The consumer turned off the circuit again and it remained off until the next day, 7/21/14.
On 7/21/14 The consumers turned the circuit back on for the stove and it was still on broil. They tried to turn off the oven but the oven would not turn off. The consumer states she turned off the circuit and it has remained off.
The consumer then contacted Sears, they advised her that her unit is not under recall and recommended a technician go out to their home to look at the unit at the consumer’s expense.
The consumer feels that the unit poses a fire hazard.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Electric Flat top Range (5 years old)
I just typed a description into this box and hit the NEXT button at the bottom and was unsure whether it was submitted to you, so I will try again. I have a Kenmore range that I purchase 5 years ago. I was getting a glass cup out of the cabinet next to the oven and bumped the side of the door. The glass front of the oven exploded all over the floor with some of the glass landing on top of the counter top, as well as all over me. I was not directly in front of the range and fortunately only received a small cut on my foot. The issue I have is that about half of the glass broke into pebbles like it should, but the other half shattered into tiny slivers and shards. Luckily I was able to reach a towel and clear a path to get out of the glass on the floor. It has been very difficult to clean up and could have been a very dangerous situation. I took photos and contacted Sears asking that they replace the glass at no cost. So far they have denied my request, even though they have stated that they are very committed to safety in their products. This is very much a safety issue and could cause serious injury.

The product, in the report: Electric Range
This consumer is reporting his electric range purchased sometime in 2005 from Sears in Ohio.
The caller had no problems with this range until sometime around April 15th, 2014 when the front left burner on the range remained on after the caller turned it off.
The caller just turned the breaker off to reset and the range appeared to be fine so the incident was ignored as a fluke.
July 9th, 2014 the same incident happened when the caller turned the range off after use then noticed that the front left burner again remained on and at the highest temperature although turned off. He again tripped the breaker off.
This consumer contacted the manufacturer July 10th, 2014, he was advised that his rang is not on recall, not on warranty so they could send a repair tech for $75.00 to come to his home then $100.00 for the part to repair this range.
The caller did not schedule repair believing he could repair it but when he began searching for parts and instructions he found recalls of other models of this same manufacturers ranges.
He states that the model numbers were near his but his is not included.
He is reporting as a severe fire hazard because he states that there should be a fail safe mode in the safety state to avoid these occurances.
He would like a repair at manufacturer expense.

The product, in the report: Kenmore oven/range, 5 burner Black Model # 7909621940B Purchased from Sears
During the night, our oven/range started humming loudly and then cracked, popped, and started spewing smoke from the wiring shield and the back of the display box. The breaker was tripped and the unit shut off. There is a large burn in the wall behind the unit that was hot to the touch immediately following the incident. Had the breaker not shut off or the unit been pulled away from the wall, it could have started a fire. The heating elements for the range also have a history of varying temperature uncontrollably, often exceeding set temperatures and heating to high even at low settings.

The product, in the report: A kenmore elite double oven range purchased from Sears It is a glass top with touch keys It has convection cooking It is black and Crome in color
Kenmore elite double oven range has had many issues with it Uneven cooking , convection can makes loud noises, convection feature takes over 20 minutes to hear up in lower oven and turns off after cooking for any where from 20- to a 1 hr Also has started turning on all by its self. When it turns on it all turns on everything lights up and starts beeping. I can not even leave my home with out turning circuit breaker off for this stove because we never know when it will turn on Whole stove turns on creating incredible danger of loss of life and or home . I am a mom of eight It has done this many times Sears / kenmore has sent service men out to repair the issues and even the service men have said needs to be taken Out of home but kenmore refuses to replace it says no recall yet and so can’t do anything even though some of these issues have been looked at and could not be repaired by their service men, they kept trying to repair things until my warranty ran out. all over internet kenmore elite ranges have complaints because of turning on or off and says kenmore won’t help I am scared for my family No one will help It is only two years old And is not under warranty although kenmore did on June 25 2014 send a tech out who said it would cost over $899 to replace a controller and control pane one part in a tech already tried to replace while under warranty but his supervisor on the phone told him no I have been told it is a for hazard even by their company employee The incident date is for last service call , but again this has happened many times I have called them Many times while under warranty and they could not fix the problems And like I said it has exculated To it now starting on its own It turns on even when no one has touched it

The product, in the report: Kenmore oven. Bought Dec 2011.Free standing electric.
In Dec 2011 we purchased a Kenmore oven from Sears. On June 14, 2014 I had the oven on 170* so it was not hot at all. My mom went to the back door, which is next to the oven, and opened the door. After she opened the door she heard a crashing sound and looked back and there was glass everywhere. The glass was more then three feet from the oven door. When I contacted Sear, Frigidaire, and then finally Kenmore, I was told it is not under warranty and I can buy a new front door. This is very unacceptable! I did nothing wrong and the glass just exploded. What if one of my nephews, who visits often, would have been in front of the oven? This would have disfigured their face.

The product, in the report: This product is a white slide in electric range with removable knobs and burners.
I was cooking dinner tonight in my 3 year old oven. When the timer went off, I opened the door to remove my food and the glass on the front shattered all over my legs and the floor. Fortunately I was uninjured except for a few small slivers of glass that I had to pull out of the bottom of my feet, but what if my children had been in the kitchen with me? I called the Sears repair line to inquire about the frequency of this accident, and to my dismay, it happens all the time! How long is this going to be allowed to continue without a recall on the product before an oven explodes all over and infant?

Caller stated that she experienced problems with her range. The unit displayed an error of F10, overheated, sparked and a flame erupted just for a few seconds from the rear of the oven, while it was on at 350 degrees. The oven was on for approximately 30 mins before the incident occurred. She switched off the oven by using the circuit breaker.
6/3/14 Caller contacted the manufacturer and she was advised that there was no recall on the unit , she was given the number for escalation department, she contacted them 6/4/14 and was informed her that a technician would be sent out at her expense, she did not confirm for having the service call because she is not sure she needed to keep the unit because of the fire hazard it poses. She stated that she had seen numerous complaints online about the same model she has and that there was recall before she purchased the oven. However, this oven is having the same problem as Release # 09-333.Hazard: Depending on the model, the surface heating elements can: 1) turn on spontaneously without being switched on; 2) fail to turn off after being switched off; or, 3) heat to different temperatures than selected. This poses a fire and burn hazard to consumers.
Caller feels that this range is a fire hazard and should be recalled.

We were baking in the oven of our Kenmore Electric Range when the oven suddenly got extremely hot and would not shut off. Apparently the broiler element came on all by itself and was not controlled by the temperature control. We disconnected the power to the range in order to get it to shut off. Later we tried to reconnect the power, but the broiler element would come on full force while the unit was turned totally off. This is obviously a great fire hazard, and it renders the range completely unusable. The model is 790.95200102 and serial number is VF20713502.

Caller stated that the oven was placed on 350 degrees temperature, approximately 15-20 mins later the outer glass door exploded and shattered glass pieces over the room. He is concerned that if a child was present that it could have present serious injuries. There had been no prior incidents or service calls with this oven.
(5/29/14) The retailer was contacted and he was informed that they could sell him a warranty plan, the unit is not under warranty.
Caller feels that the oven is a safety hazard and should be reported.
At this time Sears has not helped the consumer with this problem. Service Tech said it was not Sears problem, L.G. made the stove. Picture enclosed.

While my family and I were sleeping we awoke to the fire alarms in my home ringing. As we went down stairs and approached the kitchen we saw smoke billowing out of our Kenmore range (model: 95822002, serial Number RL2013064). Upon further investigation we saw that the broiler turned on all by itself during the night. We attempted to turn off the range using the off button on the range with no result. We ran to the circuit breakers in our home and threw the switch for the stove/oven which finally turned off the range.

The product, in the report: Electric smoothtop stove.
A couple of days ago while using the oven on our Kenmore stove, we noticed it was smoking a lot. We opened the door and it seemed like the temperature was much higher than normal (it was set to 400 degrees) yet the lower element was glowing orange. We turned off the oven via the control panel, and the display responded as if the oven had been turned off (the temperature display disappeared) but the element kept glowing orange. Also there’s usually a “click” when the oven cycles on or off and we did not hear that when we shut off the oven.
After a couple of minutes, the element was still bright orange and it was obvious that the oven had not actually shut off. I went downstairs and shut off the circuit breaker for the stove and only then did the element start to cool.

I was sitting in my living room around 9:45 PM watching television when I heard a loud explosion type sound. I ran into the kitchen and the glass on my oven door had imploded and glass was all over the kitchen. The oven was not on and none of the burners were on. I had not used the oven since around 11:00 AM that day. If I had been in the kitchen when this happened I would have been cut by the glass. The range is a Kenmore elite. I don’t understand what caused this, but it is a safety concern. Thank you.

Kenmore oven was set to bake. After about an hour of baking, the error code F10 appeared accompanied by beeping. While not set to broil, the top broiler element was on. I tried to turn the oven off, but the on/off switch did not work. It was noticably hot on the outside to the touch. I had to turn the oven off at the circuit box. This is very concerning since the oven could not be switched to off and potentially could have caught fire.

I have a Kenmore smooth top- Electric Range model # 790.95301100 My daughter was using the oven she had set the temp to 350 degrees, the oven heated past 350 and continued to heat hotter and hotter. We tried to shut the oven off and it would not respond. We shut the electric breaker off at the wall panel. I thought maybe somebody had accidentally hit the self cleaning button but when I recharged the breaker (today) the oven started heating up on its’ own, it got extremely hot again without touching any of the stove or oven controls. I turned off the breaker again and unplugged the oven. Checking on the internet I’ve found many complaints about the same thing happening to other ovens of the same model. I see there is a recall of some of these ovens with a different model number for the same problem, but Kenmore claims they are very concerned with their product safety, but not enough to expand their recall to other model numbers with the same problem. Maybe a few children have to die in house fires because of their failure to recall this model before they become really concerned.

The product, in the report: Electric Range
Caller stated that his electric range/oven was emitting smoke and flames from the oven after it was used and turned off. Approximately 10-15 mins after it was turned off he smelled smoke and noticed that there was flames emitting from the vent of the range below the burners above the oven. He immediately disconnected the power and the flames dissipated. There were no injuries sustained by this incident.
There was a service call for replacing the cracked glass smooth top on the range in 2010.
The manufacturer was not contacted yet.
Caller feels that this range is a fire hazard and should be reported.

The product, in the report: Black Smooth Top Kenmore Electric Stove/Oven Model #665.95029101 and Serial #RM1613004
I own a electric Kenmore Oven/Stove (Model # 665.95029101 and Serial # RM1613004). After using the oven for about 40 minutes, the oven beeped and the broiler element turned on full heat. Nothing I did short of unplugging or turning the circuit off at the breaker box would turn the element off. Fortunately, I smelled the food that was being burnt to a crisp before it caught fire. When I plugged the stove back in, the broiler element again heated up even though the control panel showed no indication that the broiler was on and repeated touching of the off button (complete with beeping acknowledgement) did nothing. A call to Kenmore customer service resulted in nothing but a an offer to make an appointment for them to fix it at my expense. Given the number of complaints about this problem easily found on internet forums, it seems worth considering whether a recall should occur given the fire hazard.

RE: Kenmore electric oven/range, model # 79061131100, serial VF20307079.
Shortly after moving into a rental townhome in November, 2007, I surprisingly discovered the range burners on the right hand side of an approximately two year old stove automatically switched to high heat while cooking. I stopped using those burners; left side burners worked sufficiently.
Yesterday after heating dinner for fifteen minutes at 400 degrees (timed to add additional food), I opened the oven door to discover a very bright white light burning on the bottom coil. I turned the oven off, but the light continued to crawl along the coil getting brighter as it moved. I called the non-emergency fire department number and was told to call 911 and get out of the house. Before evacuating, I opened the door to extremely hot air and a larger, brighter light.
A few minutes later, when a fire fighter opened the oven door, the bright white light was gone but the short remaining undamaged coil was bright red. The fire department scanner showed a very high heat in the oven and wall behind and commented on the white residue under the coil. They unplugged the stove and declared the stove unusable.
Today I did a search on “oven heating coil fires” and was shocked to find numerous complaints dating back from 2007 to present all related to Kenmore stoves, describing my experience and some much more damaging to property. One post from an engineer stated the foreign produced Kenmore stoves do not have a circuit protection built in.
Why should my landlord have to purchase a new stove due to an obvious defect and more importantly, why has the CPSC not required a recall on this dangerous product?

The product, in the report: Electric Stove: Kenmore Model #790.96021400, Serial #VF43569227.
On Monday (May 5th 2014) I got a call from my tenant. She told me that she was cooking and when she opened to stove door there were flames inside of the stove. She then told me that she was very nervous. Because it is an electric stove I explained over the phone how to confirm that the stove was OFF and how to de-energize the circuit breaker so there was no power to the stove. I asked her to check the stove in a half hour and then again in an hour. If there were no flames at that time she should be safe. She explained that the coil (she called it wires) on the bottom of the stove looked damaged. Because I do not live that close to the property and I knew she would not feel safe with that stove repaired I am replacing the stove with a non-Kenmore stove.
I feel it is important to relay this information in the event that this is becoming more common as it might be a defect in the construction of the stove and it should be monitored.
Here are the specifics: The unit is an electric stove It is a Kenmore Model #790.96021400, Serial #VF43569227.
[REDACTED] We have bought many Sears/Kenmore products over the years without issue. That is why I felt it was important to pass on this information.

The product, in the report: Smoothtop electric range
This caller purchased her electric smooth top range 2000/2001 and had no problems with it until The beginning of February 2014 it began continuously heating to higher temperatures than set at, callers could not turn off. The caller and her husband unplugged the range and tripped breaker off. The caller’s husband flipped the breaker back on after approximately one hour but the range continued heating and being unable to be turned off. He contacted the manufacturer the same day, tech came out February 12th, 2014 then returned on February 27th, 2014 and “repaired” the unit.
May 8th, 2014 the caller took her daughter to school, returned 15 minutes later and when she opened her door she felt heat, heard beeping, walked into the kitchen and saw that the range was flashing “F1”. The entire range was really hot. She noticed that the oven was on but no one had used the oven this morning or the night before. She pushed “off” and the signal went to clock, the beeping stopped and all seemed alright. Within just a few moments while she stood there all beeping, error codes etc. began again. She could touch the handle but could not touch the range anywhere because of the heat. The oven element was blazing red. The caller turned the breaker off and has left it off.
She contacted the manufacturer today (May 8th, 2014), she was advised that they will send a tech to ‘assess the situation’. The caller is afraid to trust this because they did just “repair” the range. She is reporting as a fire safety hazard and is asking that this range become recalled with assistance to purchase a new range at manufacturer expense or if she has already replaced it due to fear of fire hazard she is asking to be reimbursed at manufacturer expense.

Caller stated that she has been experiencing problems with her electric range since purchase. The left rear burner stays on and will not power off. Approximately 6 years she had call the fire department because of the failure of the burner. It took about 45 mins to finally power it off. The oven at times stays on, heats to higher temperature and emits smoke whenever it is being used and this has been on going since purchase. She stated that lately there is a liquid that is leaking from the rear right top of the oven to bottom surface of the unit which appears black. (2009) She contacted the manufacturer right after purchase and notified them of the problem but she did not receive any assistance. At times when she had called they advised her that there would be a charge for someone to come out and look at the unit. Caller feels that she is experiencing similar problems of Release#09-333. Hazard: Depending on the model, the surface heating elements can: 1) turn on spontaneously without being switched on; 2) fail to turn off after being switched off; or, 3) heat to different temperatures than selected. This poses a fire and burn hazard to consumers.
Caller feels that this product is a fire hazard and should be recalled.

I have a Kenmore model number 790 9602 1406 Electric range that I purchased new at the Marshalltown Iowa Sears store in Jan-Feb 2008, it was delivered and installed by sears. This week my front burner burned my food as the burner was on 5 but element was red hot. I tried to turn the element off and it wouldn’t go off until after about 20 trys. Once I got it off I went to living room and when I came back the burner was back on! My house could have burned down, my son could have been burned! I called sears sunday 5-4-13 and haven’t heard a thing back from them and called the hot line number for sears and was told that my stove is not one of the ones recalled. There are several hundreds of people reporting fire hazards with this unit and it has not been recalled! Please help! I have picture of burner red hot and knob on off but can’t get it to upload.

The clock returned to the time when the clean cycle began. in a few minutes we decided to see if the oven worked... without even turning it on the broiler part of the oven was red hot. unplugged and refuse to check it again clearly unsafe.

As I was cooking a rib roast in the oven at 450 degrees, the oven began beeping and flashing a F10 code. I immediately shut the oven off. It was VERY hot and smoke-filled. When it had cooled off, I turned it back on to 325 degrees. Shortly, it repeated the alarm, code, and smoke. The oven glowed red through the window - the broiler element was lit, even though I had not turned on this function. The oven had NEVER glowed red before during broiling. I again turned it off, however I left my meat inside as we discussed what to do. In a few minutes, the meat began to sizzle. When I went over to the stove, the broiler element had turned itself back on even though the oven was turned off. We unplugged it.
