The product, in the report: stainless steel with black border around the glass of the oven door, black face plate of the stove with drawer warmer and burner warmer
January 24, 2016 - I was making breakfast this morning. I opened the oven door of our Kenmore Elite oven and as I was trying to put a baking pan in all I heard was a big bang and realized that the front glass outside of the oven door just shattered. I research online to see what would have caused for this to happen and I read so many incidents that are exactly the same of what have occured in our kitchen this morning. Of course the same issue....did not get anywhere of getting this issue resolved.

Kenmore Electric Range model 790.92903010 glass door explodes Outer glass shattered while opening the oven door. Oven had been in use at 300 degrees but was off and cooling down. This is the second time this has happened to this range.
The range was purchased 10/25/2010.
The first incident was found 9/23/2013. No one was home for three days before we found the shattered glass on the floor upon our return.
The second incident happened 1/20/2016.
The self cleaning feature has never been used. The glass was not hit, scratched or otherwise damaged.
If a child had been in front of the oven, an injury would have been a certainty.

The product, in the report: Electric Range
The consumer noticed the oven would turn “Off” and set on preheat then would turn on to 500 burners that would not turn off.
(1/18/16) The consumer had the oven set to preheat (350 degrees) and about 5 minutes later the consumer noticed that the oven temperature was at 500 degrees. The consumer then shut off the range and shut off the circuit breaker.
The consumer states the oven has turned off unexpectedly before but this was the first time the temperature changed unexpectedly. The consumer has also had problems with the burners failing to turn off. The consumer could not remember which burners but he states the burners would appear to be on low heat level but the knob would be to the “Off” position.
(1/19/16) The consumer contacted Sears to inform them about the issue and he was advised that his range is not recalled. The consumer was advised to contact CPSC Hotline to report the incident.
The consumer plans to contact Kenmore.
The consumer believes his range poses a fire hazard and should be recalled.

The product, in the report: Keynote Electric Range 790.90319012. Color black. Purchased at Sears Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax, Virginia. Purchase date - 4/23/2012. Serial number VF21555650. Issue with the back left “simmer select” burner.
Serious fire/burn hazard with our Kenmore Elite Range Model 790.9031, black, with convection and dual “simmer select” burner. We were noticing issues with the simmer/select burner on the back left corner of the range maintaining heat after dropping it down to level 2. In the last week, while cooking, on level 6, the burner suddenly gets extremely hot and the coils turn the brightest orange i have ever seen a burner turn. This happened once last week, so we let it cool and plugged and unplugged the coil. This morning, as I was cooking pancakes, it suddenly heated up extremely fast - so fast that the batter went from wet to a black pancake in less than 15 seconds on level 6. Had I not ripped the pan off the burner and the pancakes immediately off the pan, we would have had a fire. It was extremely dangerous. The coil looked like the sun it was so hot. The range is less than four years old (purchased 4/23/2012) and I saw a consumer complaint about this exact issue reported in May of 2015.

The product, in the report: Kenmore electric range, white, smooth top
My wife was heating up a pot roast on the electric range when the element went to high while the knob was on low, the burner then would not shut off forcing me to pull the range out to unplug it. I went on line to see if there was a problem that I could fix. I found similar model numbers had been recalled as a fire safety hazard back in 2009 for the exact same reason, the left front element would not turn off.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Electric Range Model # 95809000 Serial # RK4414209
After cooking dinner I turned off the oven and sat down to dinner. When we finished I noticed the heating element at the bottom of the oven was still on, bright red, and heat was coming out of the oven when I opened the door, but the control panel indicated everything was turned off. I pressed off again and nothing changed. I then turned on “bake”, adjusted the temperature and then “off” and no change. I tried “broil” and then “off” and “bake”, “off” a few times and the heating element finally turned off.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite 30 inch free standing electric range, black and stainless steel front
Electric stove burner, right front as turned on with all sections of burner were selected. I turned burner temperature down, but the burner stayed at the original temperature. When I finished cooking, I attempted to turn the burner off. The display showed the burner was off, however the burner stayed on. I switched the burner on and off several times using the display buttons - burner stayed on.
I shut the entire unit off at the electric panel box with the breaker.
After some research online I found the recall for a similar model of the Kenmore Elite. My information is Model 790.99123409 Serial number VF54359467

The product, in the report: Kenmore Freestanding Range #97453
I have a Kenmore Freestanding Electric Range, Model #97453, that is 5 years old. As I was preparing Christmas dinner, the front glass shattered randomly while dinner was cooking at 350 degrees. Two of my toes got minor cuts. I am just glad that no small children or pets were around when this happened. This has happened way too many times according to my research, and there should be a recall and a class action lawsuit to replace the glass on these ranges.

I have a Kenmore elective stove and oven, model number 790.96112409. The left front burner has always had problems staying on and the handle to the oven door has been replaced twice and just broke off again causing the glass front to almost fall onto the floor. Now we just lost power completely to the stove and oven causing the breaker to trip.

The product, in the report: Stove with flat black top on it
My stove that I have shoots out sparks out of the back of it and when you turn the eye on to use it, for example if you cut it on low it cooks on high and then when you turn the knob off it still stays on at all times. I cooked on it at 8pm last night and as of 2pm today it was still on hot. I have a small child and do not want him to get burned like he has almost done already . I have gotten shocked by the sparks once already and burned a little by the eye. something needs to be done they say there is no recall however my same serial number I see other complaints online about it will the same issues I’m having. Thanks And I have been on the phone getting thrown around for 2 hours.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Electric Range, Slide-in, Model number 790-4678
I purchased a Kenmore Electric Range (Model 790.4678) from SEARS just five years ago, in 2010. This past weekend, my wife gently opened the door to check on food when - suddenly - the outer glass panel simply shattered into a thousand pieces on the floor. The shattered glass - with its tiny, sharp edges - was everywhere. Much of it still is - in nooks and crannies - around the kitchen that escaped the vacuum cleaner and broom.
The shards of broken glass easily could have seriously injured my wife - or other family members gathered here on Christmas day. As it was, my wife was wearing socks at the time of the incident and while a few shards of glass were temporarily lodged in her sock and partly embedded in her foot, she was able to remove the glass, apply First Aid ointment and recover. (My wife is a healthcare provider / X-ray tech and her mother, who was here at the time, is a Registered Nurse. So, in a way, she was “seen” by two healthcare professionals.) There are four witnesses to this event: my wife (a healthcare provider for the past 25 years); my father-in-law (a trusted funeral director for 50 years); my mother-in-law (a retired nurse) and my nephew (an IT tech for a [REDACTED] company).
The oven’s temperature was a mild 350-degrees at the time and the door wasn’t banged or opened in a harsh or violent way. Indeed, my wife was merely peeking in on the food that was baking. This oven should be recalled for a serious manufacturing defect. I mean - who’s even heard of this kind of thing happening before? Instead, I’m getting a $365 repair bill from Sears to install a new door.
I tried to tell SEARS directly, but as far as I can determine, the SEARS web site doesn’t really allow customers to email the company.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite, white flat cooktop range with rotary knobs
My Kenmore electric range, model number: 790.97432802 with serial number: VF94730042. This range was turned on and set to 350 degrees and within 5 minutes was smoking and extremely hot. It was flashing code F10 on the display and showed over 500 degrees. I could not get it to shutoff through the control panel so I had to unplug it. After it cooled I tried plugging it back in to see if it was still stuck on but it was not. Then the left front burner turned on by itself. I immediately unplugged it again. I have seen recalls for this type and brand for the same issues but it does not include my model or serial number. This is a potential fire/burn hazard. Kenmore needs to fix this issue before someone is killed.

06/15/2015 (Approximate) - The consumer indicates that the burners sporadically change their setting. Sometimes the burners will be off and then they turn on by themselves, other times they will be set to LOW and then automatically reach HIGH. The consumer indicates that oftentimes the burners will not shut off no matter how many times she tries to turn it off. When the consumer is trying to get it to shut off, sometimes she sees that it sparks in the back of the range. These issues happened initially with the right and front burner, and then to the left and front one. All the problems are becoming more frequent as time goes on.
The consumer indicates that the overheating of the stove has caused the top to be scorched, initially starting on the right hand and spreading out to the left.
The consumer indicates that the range is used two to three times per day.
The consumer indicates that various family members and herself have burned themselves by touching the range thinking that it was off when it was not.

Tonight our Model 790 Sears Kenmore Electric Range exploded as we were cooking in the oven. The power cord burnt and exploded off the connection to the oven. While baking cookies, I preheated my oven to 350 degrees. In less than five minutes, the cookies were burned solid black and my house filled with smoke, setting off the smoke alarm. After pulling the cookie pan from the oven and clearing the smoke, I looked in the oven and saw that only the broiler element was on. I checked my settings and confirmed that I had indeed set it to bake at 350. Even after turning the oven off, the broiler would not turn off and the metal outside the stove was burning hot to the touch. The only way I could get it to turn off was to flip the breaker off. After a few hours, I turned the breaker back on and the broiler turned itself back on - even with nothing on the stove or oven turned on - and quickly heated to a high enough temperature that a couple hours after turning the breaker back off again (within about 10-15 minutes of having turned it on) the oven was still warm. It took almost no time at all to find countless other cases of the same thing happening to others with the same model. Luckily, I was home and able to flip the breaker off. Others weren’t so lucky.

My husband and I were in the living room, wwhen all of a sudden we heard a glass explosion and we ran to the kitchen to see what fell. Nothing had fallen, but our oven door had exploded and the glass was all over the floor. I’m thankful our kids were in their rooms and the dog was with us. I called Sears and they said they would charge me for the door, for the technician to come out and fix it and a service charge, so we are talking a few hundred dollars to fix it. After reading the reports on the defects of the glass on these models, it sounds like replacing the glass is not the best option, because it will happen again. We are not happy that this is a pattern with the Kenmore ovens that start with the model number 790 and we trully think a recall should happen before someone gets hurt.

I have a Kenmore Oven (Model #:79046589509 April 2009). I preheated the oven to 400 degrees and noticed the handle was broken off one of the screws. I thought it had just come loose so I continued. I cooked my food for 12 minutes. When I came to get the food out I turned the oven off went to reach to open the door and the front glass exploded all over the kitchen. The pressure sent the glass about 10ft. Some of the glass hit my foot and caused bleeding. I had also cooked in it the previous night with no issues.

Had my gravy on low as I always do, jumped in the shower, when I came out of the shower I could smell burning. I thought I had a brain fart and hit high on my stove top instead of low. I tried to lower the temp and nothing happened. I tried turning the stove top off and nothing happened. My heating eye element was still on high and would not turn off. The only way I could get it to turn off is by cutting the power off from my circuit box. I have thrown the switch back on several times to see maybe it will reset the computer. Element still comes on high and blazing and you cannot turn it off. After doing some research I see that this same product and name was recalled in 2009 with the same issues. Although my model and serial numbers do not match the ones on the recall list. It is a Kenmore Elite glass top drop range
The top of the range got so hot, everything near my stove was hot to the touch. If I would have been a few minutes longer in the shower, I am afraid my home would have caught on fire.

12/05/2015 - The consumer was cooking lunch when the front and left burner got stuck on HIGH and would not shut off despite attempts. The only way the consumer was able to turn off the burner was to switch off the circuit breaker supplying electricity to the range. When the consumer switched the circuit breaker back on, the front and left burner turned back on, despite the knob being in the OFF position. The circuit breaker was switched off overnight and switched back on the morning of 12/06/2015. Approximately twenty minutes later, the consumer noticed that the same burner had turned back on again on HIGH. The consumer switched the breaker off and has kept it that way with the exception of when she has to cook.
12/06/2015 - The consumer contacted the manufacturer and explained the situation. She was informed that her range was not included in any of their recalls and so they would not be able to provide any assistance free of charge since the product was also out of warranty.
The consumer believes this product poses a safety hazard to consumers.

We were cooking on a Kenmore Elite range, and when cooking was finished the burner would not shut off. The right front burner has three concentric sections. The center section remained live whether or not the electronic control switch said on or off. There simply was no way to stop full heat from the center of the burner except to throw the circuit breaker in our house panel box. After killing the power we re-energized the circuit, hoping for some kind of computerized reset, but the burner remains always on except when house circuit breaker is flipped off.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Electric Range model 790.9445
We bought our Kenmore Electric Range (790.9445) in March of 2008 because we have always trusted Kenmore products. But this unit has been trouble from the start; and we had it repaired several times while it was under the service contract. Even after demanding that the temp control be replace on our final service call, it never fixed the problem of fluctuating temperatures and overall oven performance. We never renewed the service contract in part because the technician said this happened frequently and it was best if we let the oven heat for half an hour to make sure the temp was stable before using. I thought this was poor advice.
Lately, I am afraid to use my Kenmore oven! We have had an error warning (E10) and have had to trip the circuit breaker to re-set the oven. Now there is a smell of burning plastic whenever we turn the oven on. The smell is not coming from the oven cavity, but near the top/control area. I am afraid to use it for fear of starting my home on fire.

The product, in the report: Electric Range
Consumer stated that she is experiencing similar problems with her range as recall 09-333. Hazard: Depending on the model, the surface heating elements can: 1) turn on spontaneously without being switched on; 2) fail to turn off after being switched off; or, 3) heat to different temperatures than selected. This poses a fire and burn hazard to consumers.
Consumer stated that when she had finished using the front right burner, she powered it off but then she noticed that the contents in the pot was still cooking and when she removed it she saw that the burner heating element was glowing red. She could not cancel the operation from the control panel, her spouse had switch off the circuit breaker to prevent a fire.
11/16 The manufacturer was contacted and she has been transferred to different department, she was told by someone that her model was not included in a recall and that they were unable to assist her.
Consumer feels that this range is a fire hazard and should be recalled.

Should the optional delay function have been activated and no individual is around to smell burning plastic, I am convinced that oven cabinetry and kitchen could have caught fire. This oven is a fire hazard and should be recalled.

After baking at 325 degrees for 35 minutes, smoke started pouring from the oven and visible sparks were observed from the top back of the display area of the stove. After removing the food from the oven that heavily burned on the top, we discovered that the broiler element had turned on during the baking process and was stuck on. We are still not certain what caused the sparks. Had we not been in the room to stop it, a fire certainly would have started.

Baking a pumpkin pie at 425 degrees when I noticed a smell of something electrical or rubber burning. Had finished cooking a casserole at 350 degrees prior baking the pie. The oven had been off for about 45 minutes before I preheated it for the pie. After about 15-20 minutes of pie baking, I smelled something electrical or rubber burning. Opened oven and did not see anything that appeared to be burning or melting. Turned oven down to 420 degrees. About 2-3 minutes later fire and smoke shot out from the back top of the control panel on the center top of the range directly behind the LED display singeing the wall. I immediately powered down the range, opened the oven door and was blasted by extremely high heat. Unplugged the unit and pulled it away from the wall. The range is 18 mos old and is “moderately” used.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Pro double oven model #790.42003605
I bought a Kenmore Pro double oven in 2010 Model number 790.42003605. About a year after I bought the appliance it started beeping fluctuating between temps, top oven would never work properly. Had techs come out to fix it he told be that I shouldn’t be using both ovens at the same time, and that these appliances only last 5 years. He said he fixed the panel but it continued to happen. A cupel weeks ago I was making chocolate chip cookies in the top oven and bottom, the top oven became extremely hot and burned the cookies within a 1-2min time period. On 10/19/2015 I was cooking meat loaf in top oven and brownies in lower oven. My daughter and I were sitting in the kitchen and heard a pop, she was like that was your oven. I said no its fine, a couple seconds after that the oven started beeping and flashed F 10 error. The top oven somehow went to broil mode and was burning the meat loaf when I went to open it. I kept bring to turn it off but it kept on hearing to the point where the outside of the oven became extremely hot. We finally got it to turn off. If I was not home and decided to use the automatic timer Im pretty sure my house would have burned down. I have read many complaints on this oven every one of them has the exact same issue. When will you recall this? When someone gets hurt or when some ones house burns down? Sears will not help, they are rude, Im not paying for something that should be recalled! This is my second oven from this company, the first oven was a [REDACTED], now I’ve learned that it was recalled but after I got rid of it because it was doing the same thing this one is.

On Sunday, October 18, 2015 I turned my Sears Kenmore oven on to preheat at 350. I was standing with my back to the oven when I turned around I saw fire through the glass door. I open the oven door the bottom heating element was in flames and shooting sparks amidst the smoke now coming from the oven. I shut the oven door and turned the oven off, the flames and sparks continued for a few minutes than went out. It had burned the element in half. Had I not been in the kitchen my home may have burned down?
This stove is 8 years old, purchased in 2007, I called sears they tried to sell me a new stove saying it would cost almost as much to fix it as it would to buy a new stove.
There is definitely a defect and definitely a safety issue here and Sears ought to step up and fix this defect. This is not a problem from normal wear and tear but one of, in my opinion, a defect in the product. Model #790.90934601 _ Serial #VF70453176

The product, in the report: Smooth top range with oven
The consumer was cooking with the front left range burner and it switched to a high heat setting during use. The consumer said that the burner may have been in use for 10 minutes or less on a very low setting, but the contents began to boil. She could not turn the burner off with the use of the control knob. She tripped the breaker and left the power off for approx. 30 - 40 minutes. When she turned the breaker back on, that same burner switched to the high heat setting and could not be turned off. The consumer had to trip the breaker again in order to turn off the burner.
The consumer said that her problem was similar to the one in Recall CAP# 09-333, but her model number was not included.
NOTE: Approximately 1 - 2 years ago, the right front range heating element quit working properly. The center portion of the rings for that burner quit working, but the 2 outer rings continued working. The consumer assumed that this was due to the age of the range and she discontinued use of that burner.

Hurt, no treatment Made Oct 13, 2015, sent to the company Oct 21, 2015, published by CPSC Nov 4, 2015
The product, in the report: Kenmore electric range, stainless steel
I have a Kenmore Electric Range model 790.96113408. It has been installed in my condominium for about 10 years, exclusively for home use, and not too often (about once or twice a week to prepare meals). The product has been well cared for, kept clean, and has not suffered any damages.
The oven handle keeps coming off when I pull on it to open/close the oven. As a result, the heavy glass oven door comes apart and crashes onto the floor. This has been happening for a couple of years, and now more frequently since the handle threads are getting worn out from having the screws reattached so many times.
I am lucky nothing more serious has happened, but this is a safety hazard nonetheless for the following reasons:
1. The glass door falling onto the floor could cause serious injuries (from bruises to lacerations and broken bones) to anyone standing in front of the oven. 2. If the glass door shatters, it could cause serious cuts. 3. More than half of the time I need to open the oven is because there is hot food inside that needs to be taken out. When the handle comes off, there is no way to re-attach it without opening the oven door; and without the handle, it is necessary to pull the door open from the sides, which are extremely hot. The space between the door and the unit is very narrow, so I cannot even use an oven mitt to protect my fingers when opening the door. 4. I’ve had burns on my arms and fingers from trying to hold the door open after the handle came off. Fortunately, these were minor injuries; I did not see a doctor and don’t have records of the burns, aside from a couple of small scars. 5. If the food remains longer in the hot oven because I cannot open the oven door, even after turning off the heat, it could catch on fire. I live in a 43-unit condominium and most of the apartments have the exact same Kenmore range. It’s only a matter of time before the lives of all the residents are compromised because of this issue.
From researching on the Sears website, I’ve come across numerous related complaints, and it is obvious that the screws provided by the manufacturer are too short to hold the handle in place. I’ve tried to contact Sears and they tried to sell me replacement parts for about $7 each screw for a total of over $40 including shipping, which I think it is an unreasonable cost for two screws that should have come with the product in the first place.

Kemore ceramic cooktop stove - Turned oven to bake and programmed to 325 degrees. I put in what I intended to bake and set the timer. I shortly began smelling something burning. When I went to check, I saw smoke coming from opening as if I were broiling something. I opened the oven door, and even though my food was not even halfway through cooking, it was burned - black and charred, and I noticed that the broiler was on. After removing the item (amid smoke detectors going off and the house being filled with smoke and a horrible smell), I turned off the stove. I continued to check, and despite the stove being turned off, the broiler remained on, and the sides of the stove were extremely hot. We had to switch off the breaker.

Purchased an electric range, floor model from Sears in Seabrook NH about 5 years ago. The smooth top range doesn’t match the recall model and serial numbers listed here http://www.cpsc.gov/en/recalls/2009/frigidaire-and-kenmore-smoothtop-electric-ranges-recalled-due-to-fire-hazard/ but it is having the same problems. I called Kenmore and was basically told if the serial number and model numbers don’t match I will have to pay for the repair. My model number is: 790.94332700 and serial number is: VF73553723, which are slightly different than what was listed in this recall. I have the original receipt as well.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite black electric smooth top range and oven
We have a Kenmore Elite Electric Range Model 790.9747*, 9748*, that was delivered on 12/9/09. We paid $1559.99.00 for this, with delivery fees, taxes and extended 5 year warranty the total invested was $1765.56. In April of 2013, in the middle of the night, we woke to the sound of loud explosion. We discovered our kitchen and laundry room covered in pieces of glass due to the outer glass door of the oven exploding. We had not used the oven in days. After seeing the force of the blowout, we were very frighten to think of the damaged that could have been done had we been in the kitchen or even worse any of our small grandchildren. So we were hesitant to just replace the glass. We spoke with Sears, and they told us they had never heard of this happening and assured us it was an extremely rare situation. Only after being assured this would not happen again, we arranged for repair. When the service representative came, I was still troubled about this. I questioned the technician and was told that they had not seen this before and assured me it was extremely unlikely. Last night, 10/6/15, I cooked dinner (using the same oven) for my son and his family. While cooking my 2 year old grandson and 10 month old granddaughter were in and out of the kitchen, inches away from the oven. We were taking the food out of the kitchen and placing it on the table in the dining area, when we heard the explosion; immediately we knew the outer glass of the oven door had exploded again. Thank God that none of us were in the kitchen at that moment. It was tempered glass and did shatter into thousand of small pieces of glass for the most part with some larger pieces that were still bonded together. However, the potential damage it would have caused the small children, who were eye level with the door was unbearable to consider. I used the words “WOULD have caused harm” only after having seen how far the pieces of glass were thrown. Today, I researched this to see that oven glass doors have been reported exploding since 2007. I understand it has happened on many different oven brands. There are hundreds of reports of this on Kenmore ovens alone. Surely this could be resolved! And at minimal consumers warned.

The product, in the report: electric glass top range
I have a Sears Kenmore Range Model 790.9612. The front left burner when turned on, will not turn off. It will heat up to full regardless of what setting it is on. I had this problem one time before but thought I must have had the dial slightly out of place. Tonight when I realized the problem I removed my pan, but it was so hot that when a bit of oil splashed out of the pan the surface momentarily ignited. I researched online and found a number of other complaints on this issue. I contacted Sears who admits that while they have an open safety recall for this exact description on other ranges, my model is not on the list so they will not assist. (They did offer of course to charge me to correct this safety issue). I received minor burns from the sparking of the superheated oil in the pan I was using when I removed the pan from the defective burner.

The product, in the report: Kenmore flat top electric range. Black. Four burner, single oven. Digital display.
Kenmore flat top electric range. The front left burner activated to full power despite the control knob being left on a lower power setting. When this was noticed, we immediately turned the control knob into the “off” position but the burner did not respond, and continued to burn at full power. After frantically turning the knob on and off to try to get the burner off, it finally did go out. We left the knob in the off position (and turned off all other burners as well), but the front left burner came back on to full power within a matter of seconds. Again we tried turning the knob on and off several times before the burner would actually turn off. This sequence happened 4-5 times total before the burner stayed off. We have unplugged the unit to prevent it from turning on automatically at a random time of day or night.
This product has a related recall for the same issues, but my model number falls outside of the recall list so Sears will not help me. Obviously the recall was not comprehensive as not all affected units were recalled.

The product, in the report: Electric single Oven with warming tray
Caller is irate after her father contacted her to inform her that a product had been recalled.
The caller had purchased an oven in February 2008 and caller had cut herself on it in 2008 while cleaning it and she began smelling a faint burning odor in August 2015 then around September 5th, 2015 the unit stopped working.
Her husband took the oven outside and when he looked at it he observed that the unit had evidently been slowly burning internally over the two months that his wife kept smelling a burning odor.
The caller is reporting this issue as a severe hazard of fire stating that at any time she and her family could be out or could have been sleeping and the unit could have caught fire. Caller still has oven in garage.
There are no injuries being reported
The caller has contacted the manufacturer, spoke with a representative but could not quite understand all that the rep was saying but did understand that she was saying that they are aware of the hazard but that since there was no recall they are not paying for any repairs.

We’ve had this Kenmore Stovetop for several years and we have loved it, however when we were cooking a pot of spaghetti sauce on the back left burner and a different pot of sauce on the front right corner, the glass stove top melted to the bottom of the front right pot (bigger burner). It had been about an hour of cooking when this occurred and thankfully my wife had left the room after stirring the sauce pot when the glass melted to the bottom of the pot and a crack radiated out from the pot in a loud booming shotgun sound with little shards of glass popping up and around the glass stovetop... we did not touch stove top nor were we in the kitchen when this happened. Possibly heating element keep heating up or air bubble in glass??? We are very upset over this and were extremely thankful that our children, dogs, etc were not in the house at the time this occurred. 90% of the glass stayed on the stove top, however we cannot figure out why this would occur when no one was in the room for this duration. The model number of this Kenmore Electric Smooth-top Slide-In Range is No. 790.95212201 and serial number VF30621030. I am having trouble locating legitimate looking sites for this Electrolux owned product as well; one site said recall, one did not-- please help if you can, would love to get this fixed or at the very least help others not have this issue.

Although I have had this stove since late 2012 and have continuously experienced this problem I have not reported it until now. It is a Kenmore freestanding 30” electric stove(022/90312-000) priced at $598.49. Whenever a top burner is on the nearby non-cooking surface becomes too hot to touch. If two or more burners are on the entire non- cooking surface becomes too hot to touch as well as the sides of the stove closest to the top surface. Obviously a hazard for the cook as well as any children in the vicinity.

I have had my kenmore electric range for 3 years now and Ok so last night I was leaning over my electric stove to press the oven lock button and I seen a flicker of light on the glass top. When I leaned in to see what it was I realized there was a fire behind the button panel where the circuit board is, I ran to turn the breaker off, so I could toss water around if need be. I got the fire out, and all was good. I took a look and found that something on the circuit board had went up and started catching everything on fire. So I called sears about 5 different times because for some reason sears kept dropping the call. I finally decided to try a chat session because unlike the sears call centers phone service, my internet is reliable. After a few grueling minutes of waiting for someone to reply back to me, someone finally did, only to tell me that they couldn’t help find out if there is a recall on the device that would have burned my house down! So not only would my family of 6 be without a stove we could have very well been homeless, or DEAD! Sears does not care about this product being unsafe! Products break all the time but they don’t catch on fire! I have looked online and this has happened to many people! This product needs to be recalled before someone gets hurt because this could have been so much worse if I hadn’t notice the tiny flicker of light reflecting on the glass top!

Kenmore oven model 9500 2102 set at 350 kicked onto broil and could not be shut off without pulling breaker. Smoked profusely as there was food in oven which caught fire when oven door was opened. This is the third time for such an incident, twice having been remedied with replacement of sensor #10181986. Surely there should have been a recall of this range. This range is over ten years old as it was installed in new home, but problems started a number of years ago. Breaker will remain pulled until range can be replaced.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Electric Range model 790
I bought a Kenmore electric range (model 790) in August of 2010. On August 31, 2015, the front oven glass door exploded throwing small glass pieces everywhere. I was just cooking some chicken in the oven at 350 degrees. I was lucky enough to not have been in front of the oven at the time. Had I been, I would have had bad injuries. I was also lucky in that my dog that usually lies in front of the oven when I am in the kitchen was not there either. Had he been, he would have had major injuries. I tried talking with someone at the Sears national number listed on the back of the manual for my oven only to get told they did not know how to handle such a thing and that I had to call my local store. After several tries to get a person on the phone here in Meridian, MS, I could never get anyone. I ended up having to go to the store in person. Unfortunately, no one there could help other than to replace the oven door which I would not want to do since this is NOT a normal wear and tear situation that I should be responsible to have to pay for. I found out online that the oven doors are apparently being made with inferior glass doors now and that hundreds of people are experiencing an exploding glass oven door. I feel, as others do, that this problem is due to a manufacturing defect and should be compensated by Sears. As I mentioned to you already, such an incident as this could have severely injured me or anyone else that could have been in front of that oven door when it exploded.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite Electric Range with Dual Ovens
We purchased the Kenmore Elite Electric Range from Sears in Nashua, NH. Shortly after receiving this product, we realized that the top oven was not working properly and called the customer service department. We were told to move the oven rack to the topmost position (foods cooked in this top oven were burning on the bottom and not cooking on the top). After many calls back and forth to try and get the issue resolved, we got nowhere and eventually gave up.
Approximately one year ago, we noticed that the bottom racks on the larger, bottom oven seemed “loose”. After moving the racks around in the oven, thinking that perhaps they are designated as uppermost racks, bottom racks, etc., we weren’t able to rectify the problem. Again, a call was made to customer service and we were told that there was nothing they could do because the oven was out of warranty. Within weeks of the first phone call, the racks would no longer fit in the oven. The sides of the oven had expanded so much, that when you put a dish on the racks, it would collapse! There were two incidents where hot liquids from the dish splashed up and burned my forearm and hands. Phone calls to sears reporting the incidents were met again with no resolve whatsoever and only an offer to send a service technician out to look at the problem - at our expense. We now have had to wrap aluminum foil around the sides of the racks and squeeze the rack into the side grooves. This stabilizes the racks, but of course they now cannot be moved to remove food. Sears has told me that the reason for the oven walls expanding may be due to using the self-clean feature of the appliance (this has been used one time and the problem did not start right after this was done)

The product, in the report: Kenmore black flat top electric stove
My kenmore appliance has done this two times now. I turn it on to a specified temperature, but instead it turns on, but only stays at the absolute highest temperature. It then refuses to turn off. Even when I flip the breaker off for hours, it will come back on. It has been both front burners. Last time it happened, someone worked on it and fixed one side. Now the other side has done it. I’m lucky that I pay attention, because if I had walked away it could have started a fire. Both times it was so hot I could barely stand to be even 4 feet from the stove. It is a complete fire hazard. I saw a recall on some sears stoves that did the same thing. Mine was not listed on the recall, so it is obviously affecting way more appliances than they are admitting too. Now I have to have my stove breaker flipped and I cannot use the stove at all until I get it fixed yet again.

The caller stated that the oven portion of the unit heats to higher temperature than selected.
On 08/09/15, the consumer’s wife placed food in the oven to heat up and set the temperature 450F. The food started burning. The consumer was unable to turn off the unit from the control panel. The consumer had to cut the circuit to the unit.
The consumer stated that this has happened three times. Each time, the consumer had to cut the circuit to the unit to turn it off. The control panel displays the error F10 when this occurs.
The consumer contacted the manf. They informed him that the unit is not under warranty. The consumer was informed that the unit has not been recalled. The consumer was not offered any other assistance.
The consumer stated that there is a feature on the unit where the oven can be set up to start at a different/later time. The consumer is worried that someone’s house can catch on fire if the unit behaves in a similar way when they are not home. The consumer does not use this feature, however, he is concerned about others who have this unit.
The day after (8/11) the control board went up with a small elec. fire. On 8/12 the range was put out for trash. Attached are (3) three pictures showing the damage

On July 31st we had an electrical fire in the control panel of our Kenmore range model 790.92602013 which we purchased three years ago. I had pizza dough in the oven at 425 degrees with the timer on countdown from 8 minutes. At 2 minutes there was a fizz and then a pop with flames and smoke coming out of the back of the panel. If I had not been standing right there, this could have been a much worse situation.
Flames came out the top back vents behind the circuit board and smoke came out the front and the back of the panel. I took pictures should you need them.
I have the range in my garage.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite Smooth Top Stove model 95804000 Serial no. RL0520683 purchased in 1999 or 2000.
After cooking some garlic bread in the oven of our Kenmore Elite Smooth Top Stove (model 665 95804000 Serial No. RL0520683) my son noticed that the oven heating element was still red even though the stove was turned off. We tried multiple times to push the “off/cancel” button to no avail. Eventually, I went to the breaker box and flipped the “range” breakers to the off position. After 10 minutes I flipped the breakers back on and turned the oven back on. When the element was glowing red I once again tried to turn it off with the “off/cancel” button to no avail. After realizing this switch failure could cause a fire, I searched the internet for similar complaints and found plenty. Several of the chat pages mentioned a “recall” but when I contacted Sears they said there wasn’t a “recall” on this particular model. They offered to send a technician out and that if the trouble was from the computer control board then the total repair would be $335 including labor. My concern is what will keep the same electrical switch failure from happening again? My wife and I are talking about getting a new stove as I don’t see how we can ever trust this stove again.

Cooktop temperature is not consistent with the temp selection. The temp selector goes from Low to high - 0-10. There are times when the burner gets red hot at low and the temp cannot be controlled. There have been occasions when I tried to turn the burner off, but it will not shut off without trying over and over.
Lately the racks fall out of the oven. Meaning, it appears the stove expanded slightly, enough that the racks don’t fit in the grooves. There have been several occasions where I put something in the oven and went to check it, pulled the rack out and the rack fell out on one side causing hot liquid from a roast to splash. A couple weeks ago I put a custard pie in and the rack fell and all the milk ended up on the bottom of the oven. What a mess to clean up!
When reporting the incident to Sears we were told it wasn’t their problem because we did not purchase the insurance.
What recourse do we have?

The product, in the report: Kenmore flat top electric range. Model No. 790.96010406. Serial No. VF64257144. Purchased at Sears
I have a Kenmore smoothtop electric range and have been experiencing problems with the right front burner cooking very hot even when the dial is set to low or medium. Food began to burn and the kitchen filled with smoke from the burning food. Tonight the burner was not shutting off when the dial was in the off position. For several minutes after it was turned off the burner would light up hot red up and then shut off. This continued for 5-7 minutes until I could assess a temporary solution online. I did notice a small quick spark come from one of the coils. I had to turn the circuit breaker off for the burner to shut itself off. I have not turned the circuit breaker back on, nor will I until it can be looked at. this is a safety and serious fire hazard.
I have been online to check for any recall notices for this unit and while Frigidaire issued a recall notice back in 2009, this unit was not listed in the recall. It seems others are experiencing the same issue with this model. Yes, I will call the 800 number to report this. Without an active recall, I will likely have to fix on my own. Hoping by reporting this, the manufacturer or Safety Commission will take notice.

In the wall behind the stove, the reflection of flames was seen and a popping and crackling sound was heard. The heat was so high during this event that the connectors on the wiring harness welded themselves to the control board. No response from Sears to my report of this incident.

I turned on my Kenmore oven, Model 7909661, after about 5 minutes I heard loud popping and crackling. I went into the kitchen and there were flames coming from behind the console on the stove. I immediately grabbed the hose from my sink and put the fire out. The stove was just smoking then again sparks started shooting out from the stove behind the console, the console was flashing. I called 911, when they came they took the back panel off the stove and said it was the circuit board. If I had gone outside or went to take a shower or what ever, this stove could have burned my house down with my son in it, who was upstairs in his room at the time. Why isn’t there a recall for this stove? I know I’m not the only one to complain about it. Does someone have to be seriously hurt or die to have this stove recalled?

I immediately turned off the oven. I noticed that that section of the coil was disintegrating. What would have happened if I left to run my errand and left my teenage children home alone? I have never had nor seen an oven where the coil has broken down..

The product, in the report: Kenmore Self-cleaning Oven Range with smooth top stove. Black in color
We have a Kenmore Self-cleaning Oven Range, model number: 790.97439802 Serial number: VF00263283 I was baking bread at 325 degrees and after approximately 15 minutes, there was a fire in the oven. We tried to turn the oven off, but ended up having to shut the breaker off to cut power to the oven. Once we removed the bread, my husband turned the oven back on and the temperature read over 500 degrees. He then took an external thermometer and that read almost 700 degrees! Following instructions from Kenmore website, we again turned the breaker off for 30 minutes to “re-set” the oven. We waited a day and pre-heat ed the oven to 325 degrees...however, the same issue occurred with the oven reaching temperatures above 500 degrees! We called CPSC with our problem and they said there was no recall on our model number and they transferred us to Sears to talk with them. After explaining the problem, we were told that there were no service technicians and if we weren’t comfortable using the oven we would just have to buy a new one! I asked to speak to a supervisor and was subsequently hung up on. I immediately called CPSC back and told them we were hung up on and they transferred us back to Sears customer service and yet again we were hung up on! I waited a few days and then called Kenmore to report this issue and said that after doing lots of research other Kenmore ovens (different model numbers, but looked the same as ours) had been recalled due to fires & we also found consumer complaints online for the EXACT model and serial numbers that had fires. The Kenmore representative,[REDACTED], said that we would have to pay for a service call and any parts that were replaced. I expressed my discomfort at having the same problem occur even after a technician “fixed” the problem. I stated we don’t feel safe having this oven in our home and that the potential for property, and more importantly physical damage to my family is not an “acceptable risk” and requested to talk with a supervisor. [REDACTED] hung up on me! We then called our local store and got a call back yesterday from the store manager, [REDACTED] who was kind and very concerned about nit only the oven issue, but the fact that we weren’t being heard and had been hung up on several times. She gave us another customer service phone number and I called today and spoke with [REDACTED]. She was great, but said all she could do was set a service call up. Unfortunately there are no direct service companies in our area in[REDACTED] so she said that they would try to find a company to come out to our home. I said that we really wanted to trade in our store for a different one and she said she understood, but she could not authorize that. The best she could do was give us a 15% discount on the purchase of a new oven. While this is a nice offer, we don’t have the money to purchase a new oven, nor do we think we should since the oven is faulty and extremely dangerous! We have a case[REDACTED] I am now waiting for a service company to call us to give us an estimate on the home visit and set up an appointment. The bottom line is that oven is not safe! Others with the same oven should be made aware of this serious fire hazard and there should be a recall on this model. As a consumer I feel that Sears and Kenmore should take the responsibility of their manufacturer deflect seriously and replace the oven to one that does not put my home and family in jeopardy.
