The product, in the report: Electric Range
I have a Frigidaire Range Model Number = FEF352AUC Serial Number = VF21105537.
On April 20, 2014, after cooking the range recorded an error and the broil element was on high and would not turn off. I attempted to turn the oven off 2 more times and the broil element continued on high. The range did report an error code of F1, but that was the main indication of a problem (besides the heat continuing to come from the oven). I contacted the manufacturer. Frigidaire referred me for repair. Here is a copy of the email I sent and response.
My email to Frigidaire after initial consultation: “Thank you for the reply.
I am much more concerned about the safety aspect of this oven. I see that there are no recalls, but this could have been a very dangerous situation. Do you want some representative to at least pick up the oven for testing? There seems to be some design flaw. I would expect a better situation would have been to fail “off” instead of on broil high.
A google search also yielded this: Oven would not shut off after using. - AppliancePartsPros.com
Oven would not shut off after using. - AppliancePartsPro... View on www.applianceparts... Preview by Yahoo
Hence I am not the only person to find this situation. I realize this is a discontinued product, but the design flaw could have continued in later models.
Please let me know how you would like to proceed. “
And Frigidaire’s response:
“Dear [REDACTED], Thank you for contacting Frigidaire. I completely understand your frustration regarding the problem you’re having with your range. You will need to schedule an appointment for service to determine what part is required for your repair. Based upon the model and serial number, the service company will provide you with the amount of the service call charges. I hope that you will accept our apologies for the difficulty you experienced. Thank you again for contacting Frigidaire. Sincerely, [REDACTED] Correspondence Specialist “
I believe this to be a serious safety issue. This could have easily caused a fire. It is my belief that a range should be designed to fail in the OFF position, not ON. I am also concerned that this design flaw might be in current models of Frigidaire range products

The product, in the report: Frigidaire ES530 Electric Range, Stainless steel. Self cleaning with ceramic cooktop and bake-n-warm double oven
On 4/20/14, my electric range turned on a burner on it’s own. The knob was in the off position. The indicator panel read 8.5. I was unable to turn the burner off. After messing with it, it would say Lo, but it would not shut off. I had to unplug it. My safety concern is obvious - it started to burn and smoke as a tray was set on it (as the cook top was not being used). What concerns me even more, is that I reported a Frigidaire range in 2009 through this agency. An agent came out, a report was filed, the ranges were recalled and the company replaced my range with this one. Clearly the problem has not been solved. The current range is not listed under any recall, and it is a serious safety concern.

The product, in the report: Electric Range 4 electric burners with oven Private labeler: Mexico - on/off switch, caught fire Electrolux home products, Chrarlotte, N. CArolina Date manufactured: Unknown - Burnt switch made in Mexico Bought new
Caller purchased his electric range November 2012 and had no problem with it until around March/April 2013 when the knob on the far right of the unit began showing signs of burning up somehow from high temperatures. The manufacturer warranty was still in affect and so this incident damage was paid via warranty when the tech replaced a unit behind the knob then replaced the knob with a new one.
The warranty has now expired as of November 2013. Sometime around the end of March 2014 the caller and his wife heard crackling then saw tiny sparks and flames coming from behind the knob on the far left. The caller blew the sparks and flames out then inspected the knob. He saw that the white range is discolored by the smoke. The caller has unplugged the range and it is no in use.
There are no injuries The caller contacted the manufacturer around April 15th, 2014 but they informed him that they would not assist him due to his warranty being expired. The callers have had the range only 17 months.
The caller is asking for assistance.

The product, in the report: Slide-in Electric Smooth Top Range Model FES365ECD
I have a Frigidaire Smooth top range Model # FES365ECD bought in 2006. After hearing about the recall for burners not turning off or heating hotter than what was set, I realized others had the same problem I had. I looked up my model and noticed that it is not part of the recall. The first few years that I had the range, it worked great and I love the smooth top. I have had numerous (approximately 10+) times over the past few (2-3) years where the the left rear burner (others have not been a problem) would not turn off. Rather than turning off it would heat to high. Fortunately, I was close by and was able to wiggle the knob and get it to turn off. I use the burner on a regular basis and it is intermittent. The range still is in excellent condition barring the left rear burner issue.

The product, in the report: Smooth top electric range w/five burners (slide-in model)
Caller purchased a smoothtop range with model number that ended in one F but the retailer delivered one with a model number that ended in two F’s. Around June 15th, 2012 the caller’s husband’s shirt tail caught on the knob to the front left burner where a pizza box was sitting. The family noticed this had happened when the pizza box caught fire. The caller noted in the chaos that the middle section that is between the front left and back left burners had been turned on. July 4th, 2012 this same incident happened with the caller’s husband who thought the knob may have caught on his pants pocket, turned the right front burner on and caught a dishtowel that was lying on that burner on fire. September 2012/Labor Day weekend, the caller was at the range, her bathrobe sleeve she believes is what caught the knob, turned the front left burner on and caught pot holder that was lying on the burner.
The range was not in use from September 6th, 2012 through November 9th, 2012 due to caller and family being out of town.
November 12th, 2012 the caller reached over the range to place something in the microwave over this range, her belt buckle turned the right rear burner on and when she back up to wait for the microwave she noticed that the burner was beginning to glow. Nothing was near the burner at that time.
Also on Nov 25th, 2012, knob knocked on accidentally (unnoticed) and scorched skillet sitting on eye.
January 29th, 2013 this incident happened again when the husband reached to place something in the microwave and again somehow one of the range burners was turned on again. Caller believes that it should be necessary to push in then turn these burners before they can light.
There are no injuries to report The caller has not contacted the manufacturer but does intend to contact them

The product, in the report: Frigidaire electric range model GLEFM397DQA serial VF45109660
My Frigidaire range’s control panel burst into flames. I pushed the button for broil and the control panel made a popping sound and flames approximately 9 inches tall came from the back of the control panel and up the wall. They burned for several seconds and then went out. This is a Frigidaire electric range model number GLEFM397DQA. Serial number VF45109660. It is 9 and a half years old. I called Frigidaire and after being on hold for a long time the woman told me that if it was still under warranty or an extended warranty that I had purchased they would see about getting it repaired and that there was no recall on it. I politely asked if Frigidaire cared that their product could have burnt my house down and didn’t they feel that an actual fire was a circumstance that would justify service outside of the warranty period and they hung up on me. I feel people need to know that this range could burn their house down with no warning and that Frigidaire doesn’t care.

(03/20/2014) The consumer contacted the company. After being transferred to several departments, she spoke to [REDACTED] in the manufacturing department. The consumer asked to speak to a supervisor. The supervisor advised the consumer that since the stove was nine years old and out of warranty, she could speak with a service person in her area for repair.
The consumer advised the supervisor that she wanted to know how and why the incident happened. The consumer stated that she was advised that the only offer she could get from the manufacturer was service people in the area that she could call. The consumer was advised that it would be at her expense.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire freestanding electric range with double oven
First incident after owning oven for about a year, came home one day, bringing in groceries and setting on top of stove. Turned on oven to preheat. Was outside for a bit, came inside and stove top was smoking and melting the plastic of the grocery bag. The back left burner had turned on all by itself. This could have burned my house down if I hadn’t come inside at that time! I have tried contacting Frigidaire with little to no response. My model number is listed under recall, but they state it is not part of the recall for the exact same issue.
The back burner has continued to turn on when using oven, and you cannot turn it off. The only thing you can do is switch it to low. I have been living with this cautiously for a few years. Now the main oven will not heat up, only the bottom oven works. Is this part of the same issue, I don’t know? Please advise on what else I can do?

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Free Standing, smooth top electric range.
The two back burners on this range randomly turn on, even though they are set to ‘off’. This has happened twice in the last month. Now that we know this, we are very careful not to leave anything flammable on it, but with 3 kids in the house I am still afraid of it. Fridgidaire claims ours is not part of their existing recall and wants US to pay someone to fix it. This is not a non-working appliance, it is a SAFETY issue.

We have a Fridgidaire range (model FEFL79GC,serial vf72419995) experiencing an issue reported in another CSPC recall for a similar model. On occasion, the front burners will either not turn off, or will not adjust temperature based on the knob setting. Despite turning the burners off, they may stay on at what appears to be high power until the knob is turned back on, then off. Issue does not happen consistently, but is frequent.

The product, in the report: Stove
I have a Frigidaire stove that was purchased in March of 2010. This morning I turned the oven on the preheat and turned away to wash some dishes. I heard the sound of glass shattering and turned to see the outer glass in my stove door had completely shattered. As I still had an extended warranty I contacted the company and was told this was not covered under my extended warranted. They commented it was a manufacturer issue and suggested I contact them. The manufacture said they had no reports of this happening in their product but they would give me a discount if I wanted to purchase the replacement glass from them but I would have to have it installed. I checked the internet and also was told by the company where I purchased the stove that this is an ongoing issue with the manufactures because they do not use glass that is strong enough. My husband is bedridden with cancer and we live off social security so we can’t repair it ourselves and can’t afford to have it repaired. We are basically screwed because no one will take responsibility for this issue.

Frigidaire Electric Wall Oven model GLEB27S9DB serial number NF44713663 Even Cook Convection Oven with black smooth face and touch pad control panel. Purchased November 28, 2004. I set the oven to convection bake 425 degrees, and in just a few minutes it started making a crackling noise. I turned around and saw sparks in the oven compartment. The control panel started flashing and the “locked” symbol illuminated and smoke started to come out of the vents. The was a strong electrical fire smell. the oven door was locked and the control panel would not respond, so I turned off the circuit breaker. The door remained locked. Removed the control panel and the ribbon relay was scorched. We have damage to the cabinet above the control panel. Fear we would have had far more extensive damage had I not been within arms reach of the oven when the issue occurred.
I have pictures of the damage and burned control panel should you wishful to see.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire electric induction cooktop (two induction burners, two radiant burners; size 30”)
Re: Frigidaire Induction Glass Cooktop Model FPCC3085KSA Serial No.: NF11719200
While cooking on this cooktop on the induction side, another burner on the left side of top turned itself on. It seemed much hotter than usual. I was unable to turn it off or turn any of the other burners on or off. I turned it off at the circuit breaker, then turned it back on, hoping it would work correctly. It didn’t. It began “popping” and a noxious burning odor was noticed. Also, the other burner again turned itself on. I again turned it off at the breaker box and called for a service technician, who arrived several days later. He removed the cooktop and inspected it. All five of the circuit boards were burned and the connecting wires were partially melted, fused or blackened. He said the top would have to be totally rebuilt.
The service company and Frigidaire have declared this cooktop a total loss with parts and labor in excess of $1,100. I have been talking to Frigidaire to try to get a replacement cooktop from them, but so far they haven’t budged, saying the cooktop was “out of warranty”. This is a 3-year-old item used in home cooking. There is no doubt this electrical/circuit board failure would have caused a major fire in my home had I not been there to stop the current in the 40-amp wire.

The caller states that in the beginning this incident happened rarely after he had used it to cook. He stopped using that burner himself then noticed that there were no incidents that he knew of at all. Lately the burner is coming on by itself daily and the caller hasn’t been cooking on that burner. The heat rises to very high temperatures and the caller is not sure of the safety of the range. There are no injuries to be reported

The product, in the report: Electric Range/Oven
The consumer reported that she was cooking in the range oven in baking setting at 350 degrees for 5 minutes when black smoke started coming out of the upper back panel and she noticed an odor similar to burning plastic. Immediately after turning off the circuit breaker for the range she noticed that the smoke and odor stopped.
2/03/14- The consumer contacted the manufacturer and they informed her that since the range was under the warranty period they would send a repair technician to inspect the oven free of charge.
2/04/14- A repair technician from a repair firm representing the manufacturer, dismantled the back of the control panel of the range and informed the consumer that the panel was burnt. This technician also stated that he would contact the manufacturer to order a replacement control panel.
2/04/14- The consumer filed a safety complaint with the manufacturer because she thinks this product poses a fire hazard. The consumer also contacted the repair company and asked if the replacement panel would be the exact same as the one burnt. The repair company informed her that no upgrades or modifications have been made to the control panels and that the replacement would be the same type of panel as the burnt one.

The consumer disconnected the range from the electric outlet for 5 minutes and then reconnected it again. Immediately after, he noticed that the left front burner spontaneously turned on to high. The consumer disconnected the range and discontinued the use of it.
02/4/14- The consumer contacted the manufacturer and was informed that since his range was not covered by recall #09-333 there was nothing the manufacturer could do to remediate the problem.

On 01/07/14, the consumer stated that he turned the on/off knob around and the burner turned off. The consumer informed his wife to stop using that burner
On 01/26/14, the consumer stated that the same thing happened again. The consumer stated that this time the burner did not turn off from the knob. The consumer’s wife had to cut the breaker off to turn off the burners.
The consumer stated that he contacted the manf. They informed him hat his model is not included in recall #09-333. They informed him to contact authorized dealer to repair the unit. They offered him 50 % discount on parts.

Renter called to report that the burner on her range kept turning itself back on when she turned it off. She was scared & unplugged the range and called me. I went over the next day, took the back off and could see the switch was arcing and smoking.
I came home, looked the range up on the internet and found that the serial number fell in the range of the recall #09-333. I contacted Frigidaire and after hours of talking & arguing and asking for the next boss & the next boss, I finally got to a corporate manager. It took more hours and the promise that if she did not send someone to assess the range & verify the problem with two days, I would buy a new stove for the renters as I could not leave them without a range. I would keep the old stove, then take them to court to get the range repaired and get reimbursed for the purchase of the new range. She finally agreed to send a technician the next day. He found the switches were faulty and called the corporate manager from teh rental house to give her his findings. Again it took some arguing but she said if she got the written report that day then she would take it to her boss to get approval to pay for the replacement of all switches. The technician faxed the rpot that afternoon. She called me the next day to report the appoval of the repairs. Again we ‘discussed’ the time frame and she ended up agreeing to immediate repairs.

The product, in the report: 4 Burner Frigidaire Smooth Top Stove. Digital control panel. Self-cleaning, bake/broil.
LOWER HEATING ELEMENT OVERHEATED. OVEN WENT FROM 190 DEGREES TO A VERY HIGH TEMPERATURE AND WOULD NOT SHUT OFF USING KEYPAD. HAD TO FLIP THE CIRCUIT BREAKER IN MY FUSE BOX. NO ERROR CODE PRESENT ON OVEN CONTROL PANEL. ONLY NOTICED THIS POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD WHEN I SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING, THEN OPENED OVEN DOOR. CHICKEN WAS BOILING IN [REDACTED] DISH, HOUSE FULL OF SMOKE.
THIS ISSUE AND LACK OF ERROR CODE ARE A CONCERN. NO IDEA IF IT WAS CAUSED BY FAULTY ELEMENT, HEAT SENSOR, OR MORE EXPENSIVE FAILURE OF CONTROL BOARD. NO WAY TO TELL UNLESS I REPLACE THE ELEMENT AND TURN OVEN ON TO HEAT. I AM NOT A REPAIRMAN WITH AN OHM SENSOR TO CHECK THE OTHER PARTS. ONLINE RESEARCH SHOWS THAT REPAIRMAN VISIT IS AT LEAST $75 FOR A VISIT NOT INCLUDING COST OF FAULTY PARTS.
PURCHASED LOWER ELEMENT FOR $35, AND NO GUARANTEE THIS IS GOING TO FIX THE ISSUE. UPON FURTHER INTERNET RESEARCH I AM ALMOST CERTAIN IT IS EITHER THE HEAT SENSOR MALFUNCTIONING (APPROX $25) OR THE CONTROL BOARD (APPROX.$250). PRICE OF NEW STANDARD ELECTRIC RANGE (WITH COILS) IS APPROX $350-$450.
I DO NOT HAVE RECEIPT FOR THIS OVEN, AS IT CAME WITH HOUSE I PURCHASED IN 2008. OVEN WAS NEARLY NEW AT THE TIME. PREVIOUS ELDERLY OCCUPANTS RARELY COOKED.
I FEEL THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE AND SHOULD BE FURTHER INVESTIGATED IN THIS PARTICULAR BRAND OF OVEN. PRIOR RECALLS TO OTHER MODELS DUE TO FAULTY CONTROL BOARD, BUT MY PARTICULAR MODEL NOT INCLUDED. (FEF365BWA)
HAD I BEEN WORKING OUTSIDE IN THE YARD OR OTHERWISE INDISPOSED, I AM CERTAIN THE OVEN WOULD HAVE CAUGHT FIRE. I SHOULDN’T BE FEARFUL OF WALKING OUTSIDE FOR A FEW MINUTES OR TAKING A SHOWER WHILE I AM SLOW ROASTING FOOD AT A LOW TEMPERATURE.
Note: Was slow-roasting chicken in oven @ 190 degrees. Chicken was in covered [REDACTED] dish. No drips, leaks, or grease on bottom of oven or element were present to cause burning or potential fire hazard. Oven was thoroughly clean prior to overheating incident. I also Do Not use the self-cleaning feature of this oven, or any chemical cleaners.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Electric Wall Oven, Model Number PLEB30S9DCB, Serial Number NF60211086
I have a Frigidaire Electric Wall Oven that I installed about three years ago per the manufacture’s installation instructions. Recently, the lower heating element burned out. I ordered a replacement element and installed it. The oven still did not work. I read in the installation manual that there is a thermostat over-temp switch located on the back of the oven. I removed the oven from the wall cabinet to reset the switch. Upon doing so, I was surprised to see a large, 14” wide, oval shaped burn on the outside of the bottom of the oven. There was also a matching burn in the wooden shelf that the oven sits on. Interestingly, there is NO matching burn spot on the bottom of the inside of the oven below the lower heating element, so I cannot figure out what the source of this burn is. Looking over the parts diagram for this oven reveals that on the bottom, there is nothing between the inner metal oven wall and the outer metal casing other than insulation. I have never had this part of the oven disassembled, so I am unable at this time to determine if insulation was not put in during manufacture as required. It is absolutely amazing that this condition did not start a house fire.

The product, in the report: Fridigiare Elements flat top stove model number LEEFM389FEB
On new years day we were making stuffed pork chops. Luckily we had just returned from Church as we noticed the stovetop burner top on the flat surface was heating up with it turned off. No one had touched it. We tried to turn it on and off but it wouldn’t shut off. The burner got blazing hot we had to go shut off the whole electrical breaker off to be safe. If we had not been home or if this would of happened during the night I am sure we would of lost our home if not our lives. Very scary. We took pictures to show the burner was in the off position and continued to heat up. This time of year is scary as could of had goodies sitting around ontop of the stove. It is so unbelievable dangerous I refuse to use it again. what if you fix part of the burners and the other ones have the same defect. We could die next time or lose our home. So not worth it. We bought the oven/stove at either Lowes only a couple of years old. Modle number is LEEFM389FEB it is a Fridigaire Elements they were expensive we have already replaced the fridigiare elements dishwasher due to malfunction after only 1 year of use, and now the stove. The fridigiare elements fridge has also had issues the ice dislodges into the back by the motor or won’t cool. These appliances are [REDACTED] very disappointed in the quality. We lost freezer food twice. Do NOT buy you will regret it.

Frigidaire Wall Oven Model GLEB30S9DBA. My wife was using this oven to cook dinner, and she heard beeping and smelled burning electrical. All the LEDs were illuminated, and she couldn’t open the oven because the oven lock had engaged. I came and inspected, and suspected an electrical fire. I ran downstairs to throw the circuit breaker, which then stopped the smoke and beeping. After removing the control panel, I noticed the back of the control board was burned. I inspected our other oven (we have 2 wall mounted ovens, both the same model), and it had minor burns on the back of it was well, but was working fine. This is clearly a manufacturing failure, and not an isolated incident. The home and ovens are only 8 years old.

The product, in the report: Flat top electric range
I was boiling pasta on my flat top range. The temperature was set on high. When the pasta came to a boil, I tried to reduce the heat, but the heat would not come down. I made multiple attempts, allowing several seconds between each attempt, but there still was no reduction in the temperature. Each time I placed the pot back on the burner it immediately began to boil over, so I had a measurable way of detecting whether or not the temperature was coming down, and it wasn’t. I turned the burner off, but the burner remained on. This remained true for over a minute or two while I waited for my husband to come and provide assistance. He ultimately had to turn the stove off at the circuit breaker. I do not feel safe with this appliance in my home. The circuit breaker remains off, and will remain so until we either repair or replace it. The front left was the burner I was using tonight. My stove is a Frigidaire model number FEFB66ECE. The serial number is VF6490873. I am concerned that while you seem to know about other models with the same issue, you do not seem to be aware of this one. This is a dangerous and scary problem.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire smooth top electric range, white in color. Model # FEFL79DSK, Serial# VF64043654
MY family ana I recently moved into a home that was equipped with a Frigidaire smoothe top electric range, model # FEFL79DSK, serial # VF64043654, white in color. On the evening of November 19th, I was using the left front burner on heat setting 4 (low), when I noticed that the burner suddenly became very hot. I removed my pan and turned the knob to “off,” but the burner continued to get hotter rather than cool down, and the range top was glowing red/orange, and beginning to discolor and smoke. I realize that smooth top range surfaces remain hot after the burner is turned off, but on this occasion, the burner was very obviously in an active heating mode. To be clear, I was only using the left front burner at the time; the other burners and oven were off. Ultimately, I had to run to the basement and tum the stove’s power off at the breaker. We very nearly had a kitchen fire. Once the stove had sufficiently cooled, I turned the power back on at the breaker, and the left front burner immediately heated up again with the burner knob still toggled to “off.” I immediately turned the power back off at the breaker and left it off. Upon further research through the CPSC website, I found that several Frigidaire smooth top electric ranges were recalled for this very problem, but my particular stove is not among those recalled. Please consider calling for an expansion of this recall, as this is a very dangerous situation.

I purchased a Frigidaire smooth top oven 10 years ago - model #FEF366BCA serial #VF21223317
Twice in the last 2 years, I have turned the oven on and it would not shut off. I had to turn it off at the breaker. Not only would it not turn off, but the temperature could not be controlled. The element became so hot that it caught on fire. When I replaced the element, it did not have a problem cutting off.
While it began working again properly, I am afraid of the oven. I do not feel that it is safe. It should not have uncontrollable temperature or cutoff features and catch on fire when the element needs replacing. It is a hazard.

The product, in the report: Electric Range
Consumer reported that she started experiencing similar problems of release#09-333 with her electric range approximately 4-5 months ago. Hazard: Depending on the model, the surface heating elements can: 1) turn on spontaneously without being switched on; 2) fail to turn off after being switched off; or, 3) heat to different temperatures than selected. This poses a fire and burn hazard to consumer.
5/2013 She was using the range and attempted to power it off but it stayed on and kept increasing temperatures. She contacted the fire department and they came out and instructed her how to switch off the power from the circuit breaker.
11/15/2013 The manufacturer was contacted and she was advised that there was defect in the switch in her range, it was not included in the recall, therefore, the unit could be repaired at her expense.
She is concerned that the range is a fire hazard and should be included in the recall.

We are replacing the CONTROL TOUCH PANEL MEMBRANE for a second time due to failure. Yes, we contacted Frigidaire as we feel this product is a LEMON since it is only 3 1/2 years old. They do not! It also needs the clock PANEL replaced, but that would be another $300 plus to fix, so we are leaving it unrepaired. The problem is that the oven will allow you to turn it on & continue to use time bake, but it is unsafe because the only way to stop the oven is to turn off the breaker because the actual time bake only works occasionally. Also, the stove top element initially started to blink on and even come on to work occasionally and again we would need to stop the stovetop by turning off the breaker until it completely stopped. This is our second time replacing for same issue.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire - Professional 30” Self-Cleaning Slide-In Electric Convection Range - Stainless-Steel Model: FPES3085KF
In June 2011 I purchased a Frigidaire Professional Electric Smoothtop Cooktop and Slide-In Range. Recently, while I was cleaning the cooktop with a wet paper towel, all of the surface heating elements turned by themselves, became very hot and starting flashing. I could not turn them off using the control knobs; I had to turn off the circuit breaker to get the range to turn off. Only three of the heating elements work now. Also, the fan inside the oven now turns on very loudly during cooking, sounding like a rattling jet engine, and does not stop making noise until the oven returns to room temperature.
On the CPSRMS website I learned that there is a recall on a number of Frigidaire cooktops with the exact same problem - ranges turning on unexpectedly, heat to temperatures other than expected and then not turn off, posing a risk of fire and burn hazards to consumers. These ranges have been recalled due to Fire Hazard.
My range’s model number is not included in the recall but I would like to report that there is the same problem with the model we purchased: Frigidaire - Professional 30” Self-Cleaning Slide-In Electric Convection Range - Stainless-Steel - Model: FPES3085KF

It seems like the oven walls expanded and no longer support the oven racks. If I had not been present when this occurred, it could have easily ignited in a fire.

OVEN MODEL FEFL79DQF FRIGIDAIRE OVEN-I had company over and was preparing appetizers. I pre-heated the oven and placed them in the oven. After 10 minutes I checked the oven and continued cooking. After 2 minutes, with guests in my kitchen that is when the outer glass shattered, thank goodness no one was in front of the oven. Most of the glass fell close to oven but some of the particles shot out up to 3 feet. I feel most fortunate that no one was injured. It took time to clean floor and clean out drawer under the stove while I had company. The only one who cut themselves was me when I bent down to get model number off the stove. We thought we had cleaned the glass all up but there was still one sliver and I found it.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Model FEFL77ABF Range
I own a Frigidaire Model FEFL77ABF range with a flat top. The unit is about 10 years old. During the day the oven turned on by itself and it displayed a F1 code. The temperature in the oven was like a blast furnace when I opened it. If I was not home at the time, I feel that my home would of burnt down. I was in another room and smelled a odor that something was extremely hot.
I have looked on line an find that when the control board goes out the oven will turn on and flash the F1 code. This is not right. Any one knows that if the control board goes out, the oven should turn off not on. That is simple I think.
I know the unit is old, but this is a huge safety issue. According to the posts on the web, this has happened several times before to consumers. Lucky for all that wrote, we caught the problem.
Why has Frigidaire not issued a recall on this problem when according to the blogs, many have talked to the manufacture.
What could be done to prevent loss of life and property?

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Gallery Series 30” Freestanding Smooth-top Electric Range, 6.0 Cubic Foot w/ True European Convection & Self-Clean, Model #FGEF3055KF, Serial#VF04954646
I purchased my Frigidaire Gallery Series, Model# FGEF3055KF, for $796.98 on 12/12/2010 from AppliancesConnection.com. Upon installation, the range seemed to operate normally. I had noticed shortly afterwards that my utility bill increased quite a bit but I had no reason at that time to consider the range as the cause. In April of 2012, I had noticed that one burner on my stove (front left, quick boil) was not heating correctly whereas it would turn on & off at odd rates and it was not cooking as it had before. A few days later, I attempted to use the “keep warm” burner. When I turned the knob to the “off” position, the burner indicator light did not go out. I tried a few more times, but the light stayed on. I waited a few minutes & did confirm that the burner was actually still in operation and would not shut off until it was unplugged. I did call for service under the extended warranty plan I had purchased. In the meantime, I was able to use the range (with caution) as this was our only method for being able to prepare food. Before service, I also found that when using the oven, it would also remain on despite the control panel showing it was off. I confirmed this by measuring the temperature in the oven 4 hours after I had supposedly shut it off. The temperature was still at 348 degrees. Once I opened the door, the oven did shut off, but only if the door was opened & then closed after the control panel was “shut off”. Realizing that the range was remaining on, I investigated the impact on my utility usage by checking my meter speed when the range was unplugged versus running versus “false off”. The meter was notably faster durinng the “false off” test stage. The repairman did come & said that he didn’t see a problem with the cooktop burners but replaced a switch (?) anyway. He also didn’t find a problem with the oven whereas I don’t believe any repairs were made there. The issues seemed to be resolved immediately after the repair but I did note that after using the oven, it still seemed to remain abnormally hot for an extended period of time. Until now, I remedied this the same way I had done prior to the ‘repair’, by opening the door for a short time after turning the oven off. After cooking breakfast this morning whereas I used the front left/quick boil burner, the right front burner and the keep warm burner, I had turned all the knobs to the “off” position as usual. The front left/quick boil burner was turned to the “off” position about 10 minutes prior to the other 2. I removed the pots from the unit and my husband & I proceeded to eat breakfast. Approximately 35 minutes after eating, I attempted to clean the surface of the stove top. When I wiped the front left burner, I sustained a first-degree burn on my right palm, index finger & middle finger as the burner was still extremely hot. After applying ice, I examined the stove and confirmed that all knobs were “off” and that the “hot surface” light was out. However, the front left burner, though not glowing red, was still (at least 50 minutes after being turned “off”) hot enough to cause blisters on my hand. After inspecting, I had turned each knob to listen for any noises, etc. but noticed nothing that seemed abnormal. At this point, though, the keep warm burner experienced the same problem as before where as it would not shut off regardless of what was done. The unit is now unplugged and I’ll be contacting Frigidaire for service under the extended warranty again. After some internet research, I am extremely concerned since there had been a previous recall by Frigidaire for several model versions previous to mine and similar models in 2009 due to the same problems I have experienced and which has now caused a minor injury. I also uncovered hundreds of recent (since the previous recall) complaints & consumer accounts of the same or similar issues with this company’s ranges including the model I own.

I have a frigidaire smooth top range/oven Model LGEF3033KBF Serial Number VF21956476. A few days ago we smelled plastic burning somewhere in the house and I couldn’t find the source. Yesterday my stove gave me a F10 error code and today I began trouble shooting it. I found the EOC or (clock timer) melted and black soot all over the circuit board. It had gotten so hot it melted the connectors onto the board. To the best of my knowledge we were not using the stove or range top at the time I smelled the burning plastic. This is very worrisome and thought I would report it. The stove is just a little over a year old. I have the part that failed saved in case it needs to be evaluated.

The product, in the report: Frigidare brand electric smooth cooktop range with convection oven. Model # GLEF379DBJ; Serial # VF64818048
On August 9,2013 my stove, purchased with the home in July 2007 caught fire causing damage to the appliance and my home. While cooking my family heard a loud noise coming from the stove, and then saw flames and sparks cascade from the back of the appliance between it and the wall, followed by thick black smoke. I ushered my wife, ten week old daughter, and dog out of the house and returned to fight the fire. I was able to turn the appliance off and the home escaped with only cosmetic damage. Since that time, I have been working with Electrolux in an effort to find a resolution to the issue. I have filed a claim with them, [REDACTED], and have patiently gone through their process. Electrolux sent a representative out to my home to get a statement and take pictures of the appliance. When he opened the appliance to take pictures he commented on how ‘fried’ it was. Instead of attempting to deal with the issue of a possible defective appliance; they have decided to delay and discourage me at every point of my claim. Now they, nor their adjuster (Crawford Company, the employer of the individual sent to my home) refuse to respond to my inquiries. I have called and emailed multiple times and have not had a response in 8 business days. I understand that the onus of proof is on me; however, there has been no effort by Electrolux to aid in the determination of a defective product. The fact remains the only thing that was on fire was the appliance, no wiring or other electrical was damaged. As I have gone through this process their solutions included: Purchasing parts from them (if available) at a discount rate and having the appliance repaired on my own. This is foolish since the fire was caused by a faulty part To have a repair individual come out and repair the appliance, on my own and then allow them to determine if further testing is necessary. A repair individual cannot determine causality and will not come unless he is going to ‘repair’ the appliance, and the damage is so extensive it should not be repaired. Obtain proof of causality through a forensics firm at my cost (typically more than $2500) to determine if their appliance is at fault. The sheer cost alone is beyond what most consumers would spend, and they no that. Electrolux has not sent any communication since 9/24/13, and has refused to comment on my inquiries. Although the phsyical damage was not extensive it could have been. I was in the right place to avert what could have been a devastating situation causing massive property damage and the potential loss of life.

The product, in the report: Smooth-top Electric Range
The consumer stated that the range came with the house that he purchased in 2005. The consumer believes the unit to be manufactured in 2003/2004. The consumer stated that the front-left burner goes beyond the set heat level. The consumer stated that the burner heats to different temperature than selected. The right burners seem to be operating normally. The consumer stated that the rear-left burner could be overheating but he’s not sure.
The consumer spoke to the manf. The manf informed him that he can contact their repairman to schedule an appointment for repair. The consumer did not feel the need to pay the cost for repair on a 9-10 year old unit. The consumer’s model # is not included in recall #09-333 but is having similar hazard.
To whom it may concern:
This letter is an addendum to a report that I sent to the CPSC on September 23, 2013. For your convenience, I send herewith a copy of that report. On May 20, 2014, without warning, the burner switch (right rear) on my Frigidaire smoothtop range malfunctioned in the same fashion as the lower left burner switch that I reported in September 2013. The Frigidaire burner switch’s part number is 316021500. The Commission has received similar reports from other consumers who own or have owned Frigidaire smoothtop ranges. The right rear burner switch, somewhat like the lower left burner switch, went well beyond the set heat level. I was cooking something on medium heat and monitoring cooking temperature with a remote thermometer. In no time at all, the right rear burner spontaneously went from medium to high heat. I turned off my range and shut off its circuit breaker. Although I have other ways to cook, my range’s burner switches are an understandable cause for concern. Are these burner switches on all Frigidaire smoothtop ranges? Should these burner switches be recalled and replaced free of charge with a safer burner switch (possibly part number 316463000) instead of the ranges on which they were originally installed? When these burner switches malfunction, why don’t they shut off instead of overheat? If you or Frigidaire should need more information, please let me know. Thank you very much for your help. Very sincerely yours,

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Gallery Series Range - 30 inch - White (Serial #: VF51645500, Model #: GLEFM397DQB)
Last night I just got done pulling a turkey tenderloin out of my ELECTRIC FRIGIDAIRE GALLERY SERIES OVEN (Serial #: VF51645500, Model #: GLEFM397DQB) purchased in and around 2004 or 2005 when without any warning or prior malfunction whatsoever, I hear loud electrical buzzing and popping as the control panel on the back of the stove top begins to arc and flames climb up the wall from the back of the panel with billowing acrid, black smoke. Thankfully, the circuit breaker popped and miraculously the flames did not catch anything that could cause my entire wall, kitchen and house to go up in flames. Once things were under control and I gathered my composure, I of course googled this brand and found hundreds of complaints regarding similar issues for this model. While I realize that this piece of [REDACTED] (and those made by most manufacturers) are designed these days to break down in 8 to 10 years to force you into expensive repairs or an entirely new unit, I am positively OUTRAGED that something as dangerous as an electrical fire is how it went out. While I can only attest to my own first hand experience, I am extremely disturbed that I read complaints where these units have turned themselves on by themselves and will not go off unless they are shut down at the electrical panel. Why hasn’t this garbage been RECALLED before someone is severely burned and there is major property loss or even loss of life? Though my knees have still not stopped shaking, I thank God I was home when this happened and that tragedy was averted. I have a husband, two young kids, and three dogs that could be homeless right now. What if it happened while we are at work or asleep? Like I stated earlier, there were no prior malfunctions or issues until last night - with Frigidaire.

The product, in the report: Smoothtop Electric Range
Caller purchased his smoothtop four burner electric range July 2nd, 2007 and had no problems with it until the beginning of July 2013 when his wife had finished preparing dinner and so it is estimated she may have been cooking sometime around a half hour to an hour. She turned everything off, however the front right large burner would not turn off. Caller came to his wife at the range and began trying to turn the burner off using the knob and finally got it to stay off. He threw the circuit breaker and left it off for four hours for safety. When he turned the circuit breaker back on four hours later the front large burner instantly began building heat to the highest temperature.
Around August 15th, 2013 the same incident happened but with the left rear large burner would not turn off after cooking and again the callers had to continuously turn the knob on and off until it would finally turn off.
Sometime around Thursday, September 5th, 2013 the front right burner again would only heat to high and would not turn off. The callers continuously turned the knob on and off but the burner would not turn off until they threw the breaker again.
The callers leave the breaker off unless cooking now because they are afraid to leave it on without supervision.
There have been no injuries
Caller contacted the manufacturer September 9th, 2013, was informed that there are no recalls on this particular range. He spoke with [REDACTED].
Callers are asking that this range be added to the recalled and that repair at manager expense or replacement of product be included in remedy.

The caller stated that the lower oven element failed (overheated) and caused it to warp coming in contact with the bottom of the oven. He discovered this when the oven was not heating when it was powered on, he removed the covering and noticed this failure.
8/9/13 The manufacturer was contacted and he was informed that a service rep could be sent out at a cost to him, he declined due the fact that he did not feel that he should have pay for the manufacturer’s product failure. He replaced the element himself and the oven now works. The unit is not included in a recall. The caller feels that the oven is a potential fire hazard and should be investigated.

Oven would not turn off. I turned the service breaker off at the power supply panel in my basement. Waited 10 to 15 minutes and turned it back on. Oven stayed off for about an hour. It turned back on by itself. It did this twice and I decided to keep the main breaker off. I searched the web to see if this was a common problem and found that Electrolux/Frigidaire had a product recal. I called and talked to Electrolux customer service and they informed me that this oven is outside the recall. Since this is a safety issue and not an operation issue I was a little disappointed that they would not correct the manufacturing safety defect with the oven. I did get in contact with a supervisor and did get a discount on repair parts for it. I ordered the oven control board and had them add a thermostat since it was not much more. I talked to [REDACTED] in customer service and [REDACTED] was the supervisor I spoke to. I can only hope that Electrolux has upgraded the control card so that the oven starting by itself will not be possible to happen again and correct this safety defect in their product. I understand that parts fail and appliances require repairs. But parts should not fail and create such a safety concern when they do. This is a major engineering fault with their product. The product, in the report: White electric range
This is a Fridgidaire electric range that we bought on 12/9/10. The product is FFEF3020LW and the serial number VF01364172.
Last Friday, the oven would not heat up. Yesterday, 8/18/13, my husband turned on the oven again. It started heating, so he turned it off. Suddenly flames came out of the back of the appliance. Note the the appliance was turned off at this time, though was plugged in. Fortunately he was there, saw the flames, and was able to unplug the appliance. When the flames were extinguished, he took off the back of the range, and saw that the control unit is now burnt out.
Thank goodness we were in the house and could see this. If this had happened at night, or when we were out of the house, it could have been a disaster.
Today I called and reported it to Fridgidaire/Electrolux. Their recommendation was that we call out, and pay for, an authorized service technician to look at the range.

My electric oven (Frigidaire model # FEF376ASE Serial #VF21210278) turns on and starts heating. The only way to stop the oven from continuing to heat up is to turn the electrical breaker off. As soon as the breaker in turned back on, the heating elements in the oven come on. Luckily, I was home & awake when the serious fault occurred. This is a major fire hazard that can cause both property damage and loss of life. I have submitted this information to Frigidaire today but have not heard from them yet. From the responses on the internet, it sounds like they are aware of this issue but because such ovens are out of warranty they are not concerned.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Smoothtop Electric Range
This incident happened on a Frigidaire Smoothtop Electric Range (Model FEC32S6ABF). When cooking with the large burner on the right side (opposite of the knobs on the right), we turned the knob in the off position and the burner not only didn’t turn off, it turned the burner on and was so hot I thought it was going to start melting the top material on the range. Fortunately we kept fiddling with the knob and after about 30-45 seconds of messing with it, the burner finally went off. Having two small children, I’m now very afraid of the hazard of this range.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Professional Electric Slide in Range 30”
We purchased a Frigidaire Professional Slide in Electric Range. Upon plugging in the item, the stove became very hot without having any knobs turned on. The stove top burner was so hot that it exploded. I severely burnt my hand from a stove that was not turned on. There was loud popping noises and flashes of lights under the glass top. We turned the breaker off because the stove was starting to catch fire. It was still turned off when the explosions were happening. I’ve read many responses of this happening and I can’t figure out why Frigidaire will not accept responsibility or fix the problem. I’m a single mom and I worked very hard to purchase my appliances. I didn’t know I could potentially kill my family because this stove malfunctions. Upon inspection from a certified Frigidaire service company, we were informed that the wiring on the inside of the stove top was incorrectly wired at the factory. He noted that the burners have been welded together so there is metal touching metal. He stated that this was a factory fault and could have burnt our house down. Considering that I am suffering in severe pain from the burn to my hand and finding out that the stove WOULD INDEED OPERATE BY ITSELF SINCE THE WIRING WAS INCORRECTLY DONE AT THE FACORY.

The product, in the report: smooth top range
I have Frigidaire range purchased late 2009 that was not part of a recall for malfunctioning burners, but I have been having the same malfunctioning problems with my range. My range was manufactured just after the recall ended. I am having issues with my burners not turning off when I turn the nob to the off position, they also get hotter than the “number” I set the dial to. I have burned myself, my husband has burned himself and we have ruined several pans. I was cooking bacon and it was near catching fire before I even got the eggs out of the refrigerator I have had trouble with this for some time and have tried to contact Frigidaire but they do not publish a c.s. # that will direct you straight to customer service, it loops around with several other options and offers a long distance # for customer service (706-860-4110) so you are forced to call that number and wait on hold and only then will a customer service rep give out a toll free number (1888-203-1389) After contacting customer service and explaining the issue and that my range was on the back end of a recall, which she double checked for me, I was informed that my range is not on the recall and even though the serial\model numbers are just following the ones recalled and my issue is the same as the recalled ranges that because not enough people with my issue and my model number have called in I would have to pay 115.21 for a “electric board”. I was also informed that they do not have anybody install it, that it if “I had some electronically capable around that it was very easy and they could do it” I could also call a service repair person and they would have their own charge. I called and service calls range about 80.00-100.00 and labor fees range about 100.00-150.00.

The consumer stated that she has been experiencing problems with her smoothtop range. The range was repaired by the recall of 09-333 in 8/2009. Hazard: fail to turn off after being switched off; or, heat to different temperatures than selected. This poses a fire and burn hazard to consumers.
The range worked well until the problem re-occurred in 6/2013 almost 4 years later, the unit would not switch off and heated to different temperatures . She also experienced her glass oven door exploded in May 2009 and it was replaced. 6/22/13 The manufacturer was contacted and they offered to repair the range. She does not want the firm to repair this unit again because this incident is likely to happen again. She is afraid to use the unit because of the risk it poses and would like this to be resolved by the firm replacing it with a safe range or offer a refund so she can purchase another unit.

The product, in the report: Smooth top stove/oven
My electric glass top stove had an incident where the left rear burner came on by itself even with the control knob in the off position. I had to turn the breaker switch off to cut power to the stove. Other similair models were involved in a recall for this same symptom. I call the customer hotline and was told that my model number was not included in the recall. Fortunatly we were home and nothing caught fire but had we not been home and something left on the burner we would have probably come back to a house burnt to the ground along with our family dog.

The product, in the report: Smoothtop Electric Range
The consumer says that she stepped out for a moment after just finishing cleaning the stove. She came back inside and saw a huge mountain of glass on her floor. She says the outer glass on her oven door completely shattered. She says the glass pieces were small like crushed ice.
She contacted the manufacturer who offered no assistance. They said it was out of warranty and the glass that she has is no longer available because they don’t make her model anymore.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Smoothtop Range
Smooth top of range cracked after 23 months of use. Frigidaire sent me a replacement top, which I installed. 9 months later, the new top cracked in almost the same spot that the old one did. Top is unsafe, and if we were cooking at the time, the cooking utensils could have fallen through onto the burners.

The product, in the report: 30” Ceramic Glass Cooktop Electric Range
The heating element inside my oven started sparking and smoking while the oven was turned OFF yesterday. I had to shut power off at the breaker to get it to stop. I have kids at home on summer break who were in the basement playing video games if I had not been here and in the kitchen when this happened the outcome could have been much more serious. Based on all the issues of this kind that I see online where this same thing has happended more than once with the same oven I am now afraid to turn the power back on. I’m afraid my house will burn down!

The product, in the report: Smooth top Frigidare Stove / Oven
Purchased a Frigidare smooth top oven in 2006. Noticed a recall notice in 2010 or 11 posted at store check out. I called company and our model (FEFL79DQF) was not listed but was having the identical problem of those identified...hot steam and vapor would escape from control knob...very hot, scorched enamel and finish. This normally happens anytime the oven is turned to a temper ture of 400 or more and also emits a chemical smell such as that of self cleaning. Have called manufactor numerous times only to be told model was not on recall list yet the problems we were experiencing were again, exactly as those on the list. Ideally, a replacement or refund should be considered but would also consider a repair paid by manufactor. This is dangerous and could cause a fire. If anything occurs, legal action will be pursued agains’t the manufactor....Serial number is VF54550772

My frigidaire model FEF3081KFB electric ranged purchased July 31, 2009 with serial number VF92946052 stopped working in March of 2012. Upon examination by Frigidaire technician, it was discovered that the control board and wiring harness had caugt fire and burned inside of the unit. Upon notifying frigidaire of the problem they did not care the unit burned up and had no interest in filing a report becasue there was not any “property or personal damage.”

The product, in the report: Electric Cooktop
I have a Frigidaire Electric Cooktop and one of the burners came on by itself even though the knob was turned to the off position. The burner keeps heating to high then low and back to high. It stays on constantly the only way to shut it off is to turn the circuit breaker off. One of the other burners does not keep the correct temperature when the knob is on low the element heats to high.
I have contacted Frigidaire and the product is on the recall list, they have sent me parts and a list of repair companies that will come out and install them. My concern is that this product is dangerous and could potentially result in injury, property damage or death. If something was left on top of the cooktop it would have resulted in a fire. In my opinion the Manufacturer should give the consumer the option of a replacement unit or a refund. I am sure that there are hundreds of consumers out there that are unaware of the recall and the potential danger as was i.
