The product, in the report: Frigidaire electric range ES100 Control with Coil Surface Elements
I purchased a Frigidaire electric range new from Lowe’s on 08-25-2002. About 2 weeks ago this range caught fire in a very catastrophic way. What caught fire was the Electronic Oven Control with Clock and Timer. Flames and sparkes were shooting out the back of the unit. The range was NOT in use at the time. Fortunately there was someone in the next room that heard the noise, came into the kitchen, saw what was happing and pulled the range away from the wall before the flames spead to the wall. That quick action prevented any damage to the house but had this happened while no one was home or at night it could have easly caught the house on fire. With people asleep it have even been fatal. It concerns me that this product had the potential to fail in such a way. It seems to me that appliances should not just burst into flames like this.
The appliance is a Frigidaire electric range ES100 Control with coil surface elements. Model Number: FEF326ASB Serial Number: VF22615109

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Electric Range
The consumer stated that her free standing electric range had the oven turn on by itself. The range has a smooth top surface. The consumer woke up one to find that her oven was on and red hot. Her kitchen was very hot. The consumer has had this issue with the product for 6 months. The consumer can recall at least 4 cases of this happening. The consumer stated that her product has not caught fire or smoked. I am afraid to use this range.
The consumer recently has decided to shut off the circuit breaker and has not turned it back on to prevent further incidents. The consumer stated that the product has not shown any signs of damage. The consumer feels that the digital panel malfunction may be the cause. The consumer stated that her home has not been damaged by the product and her home has not been damaged by the product.
The consumer has not called the fire department after the incidents took place. The consumer called the firm 2 months ago about the problem. The firm sent a repairman to look at the range, in September at the consumer’s expense. She paid $135 for their repair man. The consumer is unsure what the serviceman fixed. The consumer called the next month as the hazard was still not addressed. The consumer was told that she had to pay for the repairs “again”.
The consumer declined the service. The consumer called the firm today and was informed that the product was not on recall. The consumer did mention that her range is similar to those cited in recall 09-333 and poses the same safety hazard. The retailer offered to fix the range for her at her expense. The consumer has not accepted this resolution. The consumer has yet to call the retailer. She does not want to pay for this again.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire electric range Model# FEFL58GSB Serial# VF72251308 Two large burners on cook top will turn to a very high temperature spontaneously. This can happen when the temperature is set on any position including the lowest temperature.
Large burners will fluctuate the temperature spontaneously without adjusting the gauge. When I turn the temperature gauge to decrease the temperature it does not respond. I need to turn off the burner and turn the burner back on to get the desired temperature. This option does not always work and is very unsafe. I cannot leave the room because the temperature can go out of control at any time. I have contacted the manufacturer several times regarding this matter to report this problem and they have not offered any help. They state this problem is unfamiliar to them and this issue with my specific product has not been reported before.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire 4 burner Stove/Oven Unit
When we first got this stove there was a problem with temperature regulation for the large back burner. To lower the temperature of the burner you had to turn the burner off and then back on to the new temperature. Since I almost never use this burner we just dealt with it when needed.
A few days ago the front large burner started doing the same thing. That lasted 24 hours. Then the burner would turn on but would automatically go to full heat.
Customer service could not provide any assistance.

The product, in the report: Fridigidare Electric Range - Stainless Steel with knobs
To Whom It May Concern: My name is[redacted] and I own the Frigidaire PLES389ECH s/n MFB1509160. I have replaced the knobs on my range with your safety upgrade kit provided in the recall; however, I am continuing to have problems with the knobs.
Before the recall, I had accidentally bumped the knobs on three separate occasions which have all resulted in a fire. I have burned a backpack, a loaf of bread covered in plastic, a dishtowel and papers. After the recall, I have continued to bump the knobs and they continue to become looser with use. I am only 5’1” tall, so when I reach to the back of the range, I have a tendency to bump the knobs. I have the same issue with my 8 year old son. We have had two more small fires since the recall replacement fix. We have been fortunate that we have not had major injuries or damage at this point. However, yesterday, we had made brownies and put them on the back corner of the range. My family left to go out to eat for dinner. We have a visiting Golden Retriever who decided that he wanted to make an attempt to get the brownies. He must have jumped up and put his paws on or next to the knobs. He turned on the front burner to the “HI” setting. We were very fortunate that nothing was on top of the range, or he would have burnt the entire house down while we were away killing all three animals that were in the house. The house is not that big, so a fire in the kitchen would have caused major devastation. When I came home to check out what had happened, the dog jumped on the range again and bumped the knob into an “On” position. His paw was not on the knob, but beside the knob, so it was apparent how the knob was turned on when we left. If a dog can turn the knobs on the stove, it is apparent that the recall solution is not the correct fix for this model.
After all of these fires and the potential for more, I am extremely concerned about the safety of my family and my home. I am compelled to send this letter for liability purposes. This is a very poorly designed range and the recall solution has not corrected the situation. In order to correct the situation myself, I procured child proof knobs, however, the stem of the knob is not long enough to support the knob and the plastic. That was a complete waste of money and did not solve the problem.
I would like Frigidaire to remove my current electric range and replace it at no charge with a newer, comparable model with a higher quality knob design and efficient heating mechanism. The original range was purchased through my builder from Garner TV and appliance in Garner, North Carolina, USA. Please feel free to call me at the numbers below and we can discuss the best way to rectify this situation.
Sincerely,

Cooking on electric stove top made by Frigidaire I was burned with 3rd degree burns due to the fact that this stove top is extremely slippery and the pan that I was cooking in slid across the stove top and the hot grease splashed on my arm causing 3rd degree burns and now i am permanently scarred on my arm..Also it has no warning lights that the surface is hot even though it is turned off. No where on the stove top are any warnings of slippery or hot surface.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Smoothtop Electric Range
We own a Frigidaire smooth top electric range, model number PLEFMZ99GCD, serial number VF84236960. On Sunday, October 30, mid afternoon, the left front burner came on spontaneously while the rotary dial control was in the off position. We were in another room, but were alerted when we heard the stove make beeping noises. We could not turn off the burner with the rotary dial, and eventually turned off the circuit breaker to the stove. We tried turning the breaker back on. At first, the rotary dial to the left front burner gave an “Er” code, but then came on again spontaneously and again would not turn off. We again turned off the circuit breaker to shut off the stove. We looked up Frigidaire recalls on the CPSC website, and found your recall notification of Frigidaire Smooth Top Electric Ranges with model numbers in our range. However, when we called the Frigidaire Recall telephone number from your posting, we were told that our stove was not included in the recall. We suggest that this is an error, since our stove clearly has the defect of spontaneously turning on. No one was injured in this incident, and there was no property damage, since we were home when it occurred. Luckily.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Class series electric range
The consumer stated that his daughter’s oven is a potential fire hazard as it shorted out and caused the circuit breaker in her home to trip. The consumer stated that he was not present at the time of the incident, his daughter called him yesterday to inform him of what happened. The consumer was told that his daughter was cooking a pizza in her oven set to broiler and had one burner on at the time. (the consumer is unsure of the setting of the burner or which one). The consumer was informed that after the incident took place his daughter could not reset the circuit breaker.
The consumer did state that the range is a free standing range with a flat top surface. The consumer was informed that the oven was on for 3-4 minutes before the circuit breaker was tripped. The consumer had the range already in her home when she purchased the property, therefore is unsure of the retailer. The consumer’s daughter considered calling the firm but decided to inform her father first. The consumer called the firm today and yesterday to discuss the incident that took place and the firm took an incident report for the consumer. The firm did not offer any further assistance. The consumer went to his daughter’s home yesterday to further analyze the range.
The consumer found that the product was in fine shape externally. However, he did take apart some of the range elements and discovered damage to the inner mechanics of the range. The consumer concluded that the oven light frame which is the light inside of the oven has sustained melting and blackening. The consumer stated that his daughter was not injured by the range nor did they call the fire department after the incident happened. The consumer also mentioned the product didn’t damage his daughter’s home and was able to repair the circuit breakers in her house after 20-25 minutes.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Electrolux Glass top range
On October 25, 2011, we were unable to shut off the right front burner of our Frigidaire Electrolux glass top range, which was apparently set on high. We had been using the burner, and when my wife turned the burner down to simmer, she was surprised that the food was still boiling. She took the food off the burner and realized that it would not turn off. I tried several times to turn it off with the knob, without success. I then unplugged the range, and plugged it back in, hoping that it would reset, but the burner came back on at high. Finally, I unplugged the stove and had my dinner. After dinner, I tried some more things, and finally when I set the burner at its lowest temperature, I noticed that the burner seemed to be resetting at a lower temperature. When I turned the dial to off, the burner turned off.
Although the stovetop may be working, we have left it unplugged since the incident. An unattended burner at a high temperature is a serious fire hazard.

The product, in the report: All-electric, smoothtop oven/range unit.
One of the stovetop elemetns on my smoothtop electric oven/range activated by itself and will not turn off. The burner visually appears to be on the highest setting (the element under the glass is bright red) but the dial is set to off. The digital display shows “HE” which normally indicates a burner is off but remains hot. If the burner were on, it would display a number to correspond to the setting. The dial is also at a different distance from the surface of the range.
Other functions (timer, oven, other burners) appear to work normally. The only way turn off the unit is to shut down the circuit breaker.
Product #: PLEF398CCD
This unit was previously repaired under a recall order for this specific problem. The technician appeared to tape the control units for the burners to the back of the panel with a metallic tape. It would seem that this taping job failed.

I had a pot of water simmering on my front right burner and then shut off the stove. I didn’t take the pot off and about 2 minutes later the water started to boil. When I took the pot off the burner I saw that the burner was bright red as if it was on high. I double checked and the knob was off. I tried turning the knob on and then off again but it would not go off. I had to wait until my husband came home from work so he could move the stove to unplug it. This happend yesterday, today we tried pluging it back in to see if it cleared itself up. It was off and about 2 minutes later it turned itself back on.

My mother informed me that her stove burner would go on without turning on the burner knob. To determine if this was true she placed a tea kettle with water on the burner. When the burner turn itself on eventually the kettle would go off. This burner would turn itself on without notice. i checked the recall list for Frigidaire and found the stove’s model number on the recall list. i called the hotline and they sent us a repair kit and an authorization number for a service company to install the repair kit. However the tech said the burner and board needed to be replaced. This is the burner that kept turning itself on. It now has turned itself off permanently. Frigidaire gallery series Model# GLEFM97GPWA, serial number VF74258555. The parts that need to be replaced element:316419902, board 316442101. The authorization number given for the repair kit SF22-816B. The repair kit has only shut down the rear element from running altogeather. The other burners work fine, but did before. I called the hotline I played phone tag with no less than 5 people. what kind of re call is this. My Mom is 85 loves to cook. it’s not fair to pick on an 85 year old. what gives with these people, need new engineer? Many qualified on the unemployement line. Please ding this company for another incident. If this is the only thing they understand then so be it! I also will follow up with the local store which sold the unit RALIN in Syracuse,N.Y I also will complain to the BBB the ATT.GEN of N.Y and our local broadcasting station Consumer Affairs. the purpose is to discourage people from purchasing this manufactures product even though it is Electolux that does. They said I was frustrated, I wasn’t just wanted those parts, we didn’t break the stove they did!

The oven electronic control panel spontaneously caught fire while baking one item at 450 degrees. The burners and lower oven were not on and had not been used previously that day. Frigidaire range model # PLEFM399DCD Serial # VF 52043472 Purchased June 2007 at Airport Appliance in Hayward, CA, for $1,200.
There was a crackling sound, then flames about 6” high shot out the back of the unit, then a loud pop sound and the fire went out. There was a strong electrical fire smell the rest of the day. It was a Sunday. The following morning I called Frigidaire to report the problem as was told the unit was under recall for a fire hazard; however, NOT for that hazard. Apparently a different part also catches fire on this unit. They were happy to sell me the replacement parts I needed for $250.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire smoothtop stove, 3 regular burners (1 large, 2 small) 1 warming burner and 1 dual burner (large burner with two way control of element- small inner element with hi-simmer, and large element which includes the small inner element, all hi- simmer). Stove has digital readout for timer and self-cleaning oven with speed bake feature, push and turn on/off switches for the 5 elements and 3 lights-element off, hot surface and speed bake on.
In summer of 2011, we noticed the “element on” light of our Frigidaire smoothtop cookstove was on but all of the switches were in the off position. My husband turned each of the 5 switches on and back off multiple times. The light went out after one of them. Within 5 minutes the light was back on. He tried the switches again and this time a different switch triggered the light off. We had been playing that game for several months with the switch and during that time there was no heat coming from any of the elements, so we didn’t find it an emergency situation. However, on 3 October 2011, I noticed that while there was an element on a low temperature (#3) on the left rear side of the stove, the front right burner also felt warm. Neither my husband nor I had used that burner that day (it was not warm earlier in the day). We are now concerend that the burners can now turn themselves on, wich is very scary. The stove is not on recall with Frigidaire. The model number is FEFL77AQF

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Electrical Range. Model #: FEF366ASE.
Frigidaire oven (model no. FEF366ASE) will not shut off. The oven gets hotter until you either unplug the range or turn off the circuit breaker. The unit is 8.5 years old. This is the second incident in which this has happened. The first time occurred approximately 24 months ago, I managed to get the unit to reset itself somehow but that is not working this time. Frigidaire told me that I probably needed a new controller board.
I see that recalls have been issued for similar Frigidaire and Kenmore models for this issue. I ask that you consider this model for recall. This is a definite fire hazard, and the problem should be addressed by the company.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Electric Range Black glasstop Model #FEFL79DBK Serial # VF65146242
I purchased my Frigidaire Electric Range in 2007, Model # FEFL79DBK Serial # VF65146242. From the begining, the left front burner would get very hut when in use. I never thought too much of it until about a little over a year from purchase date when it would not turn off when in the OFF position. I called Frigidaire and they said I would need to pay $110 dollars to have it looked at. Because it was just a few weeks out of warranty they would not be covering the cost of it. I happened to google the product and there are many of these Frigidaire and Kenmore products that have been recalled. My range is not on the recall list, however it looks exactly the same and has the same exact problems. There are many complaints of this model online. So why would it be that the same problems on many stoves, but they only recall some of the models? Frigidaire’s customer service department is horrible and shows no empathy for the customers concerns. I called them on two other occasions and they have been of no help. One of their reps actually gave me a number to receive further help and it was a disconnected number. The stove now turns itself on at random times and will no longer turn off unless I turn off the electric breaker switch. There are visible sparks and popping sounds under the glass. I have read horror stories of these ranges catching on fire, exploding, etc. I have two small children and cannot wait until something bad happens to take care of this problem. I am pleading for help at a higher level. Thank you for your time.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Gallery Series Model # GLEFS79DSL Seriel #VF74969984 Electric Range
Purchased my range on 12-17-2007, and picked up in Jan. 2008 from Sears. Prior to 11-24-2008 the stove (eyes) started staying on at the highest temperature even when turned down. My husband called Frigidaire on this date and was told to turn the main breaker off and then back on. Upon doing this the stove worked correctly for several months, then started acting up again. I spoke with Frigidaire and Sears several times after this and was told “Sorry it is out of warrenty and you can pay to have fixed”. On 10-16-2009 I reached E. Cooko unit 94.22 at Frigidaire and was told that Ace Appliance and Repair would fix at no charge, after waiting a week, I never heard back and contacted Ace and was told they were never contacted by Frigidaire. So I continued to call Frigidaire and was told nothing could be done, my last conversation was with [REDACTED] on 10-23-09. My stove eyes continue to stay on high after using the stove to this day. I am able to turn the eye off and listen for a click and then it will start working correctly for a short time. My stove is a Frigidaire Gallery Series Model # GLEFS79DSL Seriel VF74969984. It was not on the recall list but is and has been posing the same fire hazard as the ones that were recalled. I do not understand how it could not have been covered under warrenty when Frigudaire was contacted prior to 1 year. Also do not understand why my Model was not recalled when it posed the same fire hazard as the ones recalled and this was told to Sears and Frigidaire. Contact dates : 11-24-08 to Frigidaire, 10-13-09 to Sears [REDACTED] 10-16-11 Sears Mgr.[REDACTED], 10-16-10 Customer Solutions [REDACTED], 10-23-09 Frigidaire [REDACTED] given [REDACTED], 10-23-09 One Source [REDACTED] and Sears. Spoke with [REDACTED] at One Source and she made a case [REDACTED]. I also do not know how that Sears was able to tell me over the phone without looking at my stove that parts and repair were going to cost $129.00. Seems to me that they already knew that this stove posed a problem. I finally gave up, hoping that one day it would be recalled also, since I told everyone of the people that I spoke with that it was a fire hazard.

The product, in the report: LGEF3043KF Frigidaire glass top range
I bought the LGEF3043KF Frigidaire stove one year and 16 days ago. It has always heated very strange. Simmer will suddenly start burning on the top burners. Last night, the oven would not shut off. I started looking online, and there are a lot of reports about this. It sounds like a short in the circuit, but it does not kick the home breaker. It is a fire hazard. There are recalls on some earlier models. Mine is just over a year old, so maybe people are not yet seeing these problems. I’m glad I did not burn the house down. Frigidaire is putting people in danger with these stoves year after year that short out and won’t turn off.

The product, in the report: Fridgidare Professional Electric smooth top Range Model Number FPES3085KFD
In August of 2011, took delivery from LOWES of four Fridgidare Professional Appliances including Smooth top electric range model FPES3085KFD at vacation home. This is “the top of the line”. Manufacture date of June 2011. Appliances were installed but have not been used. In early September, entered empty house to find front right burner very hot with HE indicator on but all controls turned to “OFF”. House had been empty for days. When I turned the appropriate dial to try to get the burner “OFF”, it blew the circuit breaker. Left circuit breaker off and called service number to report defect/safety issue but call center refered me to authorized representatives, “[REDACTED]” and “[REDACTED]” (I didn’t make up these names). Told the call center I had a confidence issue in the unused unit and needed it replaced for safety reasons, not repaired by [REDACTED]. They seemed not to appreciate the difference between a defective new product, a safety issue and a repair to a used product. Following Monday I contacted Lowes and my building contractor who had taken delivery of the appliances...they visited the house and were able to immediately replicate the problem by turning the circuit back on. Both commented that the range needed to be removed immediately for safety reasons. Unfortunately, because I had reported the problem directly to the manufacturer, they were refusing to allow LOWES to replace it without a visit from [REDACTED], who, I’m afraid , has a financial incentive to declare it repairable rather than replace it. My confidence in Lowes has risen sharply and my confidence in Fridgidare, as a brand, has tanked. Lowes has made a commitment to resolve the issue including the possibility of returning all the appliances with no questions asked while Fridgidare refuses to adopt any other stance than to make an appointment with [REDACTED]. Its ashame they don’t understand the damage that can be done by the empowered consumer in a digital world.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Smoothtop Range ES300
The consumer says she walked in home and house was filled with smoke and was coming out from behind of range. The consumer says it was on for roughly 10 minutes. The consumer said she was able to turn it off by hitting the “clear” button. She said that the same thing happened again a week later. She says her walls our filled with black smoke. She has been coughing for 3 days since the incident. The consumer says she turned on the oven and stepped outside, she said that it was set to automatically shut off in two hours. She says that if she hadn’t forgotten something making her come back to the house, her house would have burned up.
Consumer believes the short resulted frrm her using the broiler a day earlier as she’d never used it before. And the next time she turned the oven on, the electrical fire started. This needs immediate attention- poeple’s homes are in danger. If you look at the recall list and pictures of her range and model numbers are similar as ones that have been recalled. She purchased this range 1 month after 1st recall. It looks exactly like the picture of the recalled range.
You need to see consumeraffairs.com to see the horror stories with this company and their response to fire by their product.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Smooth Top Electric Range
The consumer stated that her smooth top range is a potential hazard The consumer stated that she owned one electric smooth top range with an oven. The range has a digital interface. The consumer was using the right front burner at high while she was boiling corn. The burner was in use for roughly 30 minutes when the consumer turned off the range. As the consumer walked to the sink and had her back turned, the consumer heard an explosion. The consumer was not injured during the incident. The consumer did not call the fire department at the time of the incident.
At the time the range exploded, the oven was off. The damage was so extensive that the stove top could no longer be used. There was no damage to anything surrounding the range. The consumer purchased this range on April of 2007. The consumer opted not to call the fire department. The consumer never called the firm after the incident took place. The consumer called the retailer immediately after the incident took place and the company offered to exchange the range at no expense.
The consumer had the company deliver her a new with the exact same model and serial number and July 10, 2011. The range is cited in release 11-016.The consumer stated that beginning in 2008 and 2009 (dates unknown) the consumer was experiencing on many occasions (about 3-4 times) that the back left burner once, rear right burner the other times. On all occurrences the consumer found the range on and found the rotary knob of the range in the on position. The consumer received a recall notice in the mail from Frigidaire the week of 12/14/2010.
The consumer spoke with a representative that same week and told her they would FedEx her the parts that were needed and fix the range at their expense. The consumer was told that originally the serviceman would be there on 12/20/2010 but the consumer chose to reschedule. The consumer was informed to unplug the range or unplug the circuit breaker. At this point, the is still off. The consumer had the product fixed (date unknown) in January 2011. On September 2, 2011 the consumer came home found that the range was on and the knob was set to the on position.
The consumer that were sitting on the front burner were burned. The fan over the stove came on automatically because of the heat. The consumer called the firm (date unknown) a few days afterward at the number for the firm’s recall hotline. The consumer was offered by the firm that they will offer 70% cost of the range or repair the range at no expense. The consumer was unsure whether what she wanted to do and advised the firm that she will call them back. The consumer received a package on September 5th, 2011 with a seal kit to repair the range.
The consumer is not happy with the firm’s solution and no longer wants the product. This particular range on the right front burner has a chip on it from the excessive heat. The range did not damage her home or the surrounding appliances. The consumer never called the called the fire department about this range. The consumer was not harmed by this product. The consumer did not call the retailer about this range.

Emergency room Made Aug 30, 2011, published by CPSC Sep 21, 2011
The product, in the report: 30” Frigidaire Electric Range ES400 Controls, Self Cleaning Oven with Ceramic Glass Cooktop, Convection Bake and Roast
While opening the oven door on the stove the handle fell off and the oven door came apart in my hands. It just sort of exploded out on me. I had been roasting meat at 450 degrees when this occurred. As the door fell down it hit me on the shin slicing my leg open.
The cut looked deep and is approx. 2 - 21/2 inches long. I went to the local Emergency room and received six stitches and a tetanus shot.
Prior to this incident I did not experience any problems with the door or the door handle.
The oven is a self cleaning, convection range in a stainless steel finish. The metal part of the door with the glass window in it separated from the interior door that keeps the heat in the oven. The bolts that hold the handle on just fell on the floor. Neither of the bolts appear to be broken or damaged. I had the oven on for approximately 1 hr. at 450 degrees.
We cannot figure out why the door separated. Had a child been in front of the door when that happened I believe the force could have done serious perhaps fatal damage.

The product, in the report: Oven/ Range Glass cooktop Stove
The other morning we decided to cook something on the stove and make some biscuits in the oven. After cooking with the cooktop and preheating the oven, we placed the food in the oven an started to bake. We heard a loud pop a smoke came out of the top control panel. This oven/range has had other problems in the past and after closer inspection, the damage could have occured during a cleaning cycle. We followed all instructions in the guide to the letter. This was our first oven that had this feature. We have had a total of three problems. First: The handle kept falling off because the screws used weren’t long enough. Solved with longer screws. Second: The appliance bulb exploded while going through the cleaning cycle and damage to the mogul base was a result. Solved by not ever running the cleaning cycle again. remove light base and replace light. =( Third: The Control Board commonly referred to as the “Clock” arc’ed out sending 240 VAC into the 120 VAC components in the rest of the board. I would say this is because of a lack of proper spacers between the two boards that are sandwiched together in this unit and many others. The lack of proper spacers would have prevented this from happening, and the manufacture has issued a replacement part with no description why or even if they have addressed this issue. Also, speaking with a rep there has been no recall on these or any other units.
Result: Won’t buy products from that manufacturer again. Have to out-source the control panel from a third party as the manufacturer won’t replace a defective component and is charging too much for the part. Now upon closer inspection the light mogul base needs to be replaced as well. The only good news is the handle doesn’t fall off after installing longer screws.
Conclusion: They should recall this product! It posses a fire hazard from the cleaning cycle and a defective design in their control board. They have switched part numbers from 316207509 to 316207529. What they changed. Who knows. They wouldn’t disclose this to me over the phone.

We have a Fridgidaire electric range/oven. My wife smelled wire burning and saw smoke coming from the back of the range. I pulled it away from the wall. I saw a small fire in the back of the range where the wiring conects to the heating element. I unplugged the range and was able to just blow out the flames. It also left a black mark on wall. I saw on your web site that many Fridgidaire range ovens had been recalled. My model # was not listed but sounds similar to the other recalls listed. I did contact the manufacturer but was told no recall. My model # is FEFL77ABG and serial number is VF32517673. The product, in the report: Frigidaire Electric Range
Good Evening, My Frigidaire Electric Range purchased in 2003 suddenly turned on,. The front right element is bright red and wont turn off, I had to unplug it to get it to turn off, when I plug the stove back in , buttons are in the off position the right front burner turns on. I checked Frigidaires website and found there were many recalls on this model, sold at the very same time as mine. I emailed customer service gave them the model number and they emailed me saying my stove was not recalled. They show a picture of the stove in question(looks exactly like mine) give the model and serial number and the problem being the electric elements turn on and wont turn off causing a fire hazard. This was a very scary incident this morning when my 13 yr. old almost burned the house down making pancakes for her girlfriends who slept over because the electric element malfunctioned. There are many complaints from others who got the same answer as I did. This is clearly a FIRE HAZARD and should be recalled like the others. Im leaving my stove unplugged tonight.

The product, in the report: Electric Smooth Top Range
I have a Frigidaire Gallery Range GLEF378ASE. I reported the same issue November 2010.
In November 2010 I was cooking and went in the Kitchen to find my range so hot you could not even open the door it would not turn off and continued to get hotter and hotter We had to go turn the breaker off. I reported it to you and to Frigidaire and I had my range fixed and Frigidaire paid to get it done but would not add it to there recall list, even though it was doing the same thing as several other models on there recall list. They also would not put the part on the stove that they were putting on the recall models. So I continue to use the stove. Today August 14th. I had cooked dinner and turned off the stove. about a hour later smelled something burning and walked into my kitchen were my stove was not on but was at least 500 to 600 degrees. I tried resetting the stove and turning it off and on but it continued to get hotter, Once again we had to go turn the breaker off to get the stove to turn off. I feel Frigidaire has put my family in dangerous. and I would like something done about this. Why do they have several models on there recall list but chose not to acknowledge my model. My stove is doing the same thing. I hope other people are as lucky as I have been and not got harmed or there house burned down. Is this what needs to happen before anything is done about it. I would hope not.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Free standing Range/oven white
Frigidaire Range top stove- Burners change temperature without warning. No matter the setting they suddenly go to the highest heat level. It has happened on a regular basis & has caused ruined dinners & pots & pans. Most recently it began to start a fire as the unit started smoking! I am afraid it could cause a housefire. I unplug the stove everytime I leave the house. I would like the company to repalce the range with a new safe unit or repair the problem to a safe working unit.

The product, in the report: White Frigidaire Eelectric Range. Model #FEF336BGWD. Smoothtop Range with Electronic Time of Day Controls and a Porcelain Enamel Oven Interior
I turned the oven on to 425 degrees to preheat. After a few minutes, the oven began to pop, spark, smoke, buzz, and shoot flames inside. Luckily, I was standing in the kitchen when it happened, so I quickly turned the oven off - it continued. I pulled out the stove and unplugged it. It finally stopped. If I had not been standing right there - it would have caused a major fire. When we turned it back on later to test it, the oven AND the range top did not work at all.

The product, in the report: Electric range smooth top
Consumer states that his electric smooth top range is not included in the recall CAP for NR#09-333 (August 27, 2009), but CPSC should pursue an investigation on his model and serial number, because his range poses the exact same problem as the one on recall.
Consumer stated that her electric range’s oven turned “on” spontaneously without being switched on. Consumer said that she had to turn ‘off’ from the circuit breaker. Consumer said that she been having this issues with the range’s oven for some time, but the last time on 08/01/2011 she could turn off the range’s oven by turning the knobs in the “off” position.
No injury
Consumer called and explained incident to retail rep. (Name unknown), who told consumer that is nothing that they can do for consumer because the warranty had expired.
Consumer Added: Having to worry about a dysfunctional range that turned on by the itself to an extreme heat and would not turn off when pushing the off button, was a scary situation; having to run down to the breaker box to get it to turn off. Having no stove for five days and the safety of my home and the people and animals that live in the house was no concern of Frigidaire. This was not the first time this had happened, it has occured several times in the past. Called Frigidaire and same response to call technician of their choice and then it would be a recall, so this time I did as they wanted. Then the wishes, washes started talking about warranty. I didn’t ask for warranty. I am not happy with the way I was treated by Frigidaire employees, the way they gave me the run-around and lied, in the beginning of the phone call it says it was recorded, shouldn’t it have been recorded?

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Electric Range Self-Cleaning with Ceramic Cooktop Black
I’m writing in regards to Frigidaire Electric Range Model # FEFL77ABF | Serial # VF24626066. Earlier today I was cooking a pizza at 425 degrees and when I went to set the timer, the timer began malfunctioning (displaying random numbers). It wasn’t the first time I’d seen this with this oven, so I simply reset the timer and it worked fine. After the pizza was done I took it out and shut the oven off.
Around ten minutes later the oven started beeping continuously with “F1” flashing on the display. I opened the oven and found that the heating element was turned on and glowing orange, heating the oven well beyond the 425 degrees it was previously set to, even though the oven was shut off. I attempted to shut the oven off again, which stopped the beeping momentarily (after 10 seconds or so it began again), but the heating element continued to run. I then shut off the circuit completely and then a few seconds later flipped it back on to see if that solved the issue, but sure enough the element began heating up again on its own. I shut the circuit off and waited 30+ minutes and tried again, but the heating element again began heating up.
This is an obvious fire hazard and I shudder to think what would have happened if this had occured while I wasn’t home. How can a device like this do anything other than completely shut down in the event of any kind of detected malfunction?
How hot was this oven going to get before shutting down?

The product, in the report: 36 inch electric ceramic glass cooktop
My wife was cooking diner on her Frigidaire electric smoothtop cooktop, when the middle burner (which she was not using) came on heating to High temperature. she could not turn the heating element off. The digital readout for that element did not indicate an off position and the heating element was glowing Red Hot. At that point I had to open the circuit breaker in order to prevent damage to the appliance or a possible fire. I later closed the circuit breaker to the cooktop to check it out, but still the unit did not operate correctly. As I rotated the control knob for the defective heating element, it would indicate from low heat directly to high heat without a stop position. also at times it indicate ERE . If this had happend while we were away from the area where the cooktop is located, it very well could have caught on fire and burned the house down. I would also like to say that we were not notified of this recall, I only found out about it after the fact. Our product was registered with Electrolux when we purchased it in 2006.

The product, in the report: 24” Frigidaire electric self-cleaning wall oven, in black, and with convection oven capabilities
We bought a 24” self-cleaning electric wall oven by Frigidaire, from Sears, in Dec of 2004. It was installed in August of 2005. We also bought a 3 year service plan that was never used. We are retired and in our 70s and thought this would last our lifetime! Instead it bit the dust 6 years later :(
On the evening of Tuesday July 19, 2011 I was preparing dinner and had the broiler on- but no food in the oven- when I heard 2 loud pops. I was not near the oven at the time, and when I checked I could smell electrical burning, but see no outer reason for the noise or smell. Then I noticed the cooktop and oven were off- that circuit breaker had blown. We soon realized the wall oven was totally inoperable, the door would not close properly and there were strange icons in red on the control panel.
A technician the next morning determined that the circuit board behind the control panel had blown and also expelled a metal component that had been part of the construction. There was heavy smoke damage and burning to the oven itself, and to the wood cabinet the oven is in. We felt very fortunate that fire had not consumed the entire cupboard! Further investigation revealed that the entire control panels was totally destroyed as well. The replacement of parts, and installation would cost far more than a new oven. Now we are faced with needing to buy a new wall oven. In his 13 years of experience, the technician had never seen such force and destruction. Even though circuit boards do have to be replaced occasionally, usually it is not within 6 years, and usually there is not this excessive damage.
It is not clear whether the explosion and destruction is due to a design flaw, or this oven was just a one-off lemon appliance. However, we thought it wise to alert the Consumer Product Safety Commission of the possibility of such a problem and its potential danger of personal injury.
Thank you, [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Electric Range
On May 12, 2011, I purchased a new Frigidaire electric range from Lowe’s. The appliance has a glass cooking top. The control panel is at the front and is surrounded by a black plastic border, with a rim which extends about 3/8” above the cooking surface and which is 1- 1/2 inches from the element at the nearest points.
On July 21, as I was cooking dinner, I accidentally moved the cooking pan so that it touched the rim. The rim melted and portions of the rim stuck to the bottom of the pan and were transferred to the glass cooking surface as I moved the pan back over the element.
This incident occurred during normal cooking; no excess temperatures or unusual cooking techniques were involved. I was, in fact, totally unaware of the damage until I had completed cooking and went to wipe up what I assumed was a small spill but which turned out to be the damaged plastic.
While the appliance has permanent damage, I feel fortunate that I did not come in contact with the melted plastic as a serious burn might have resulted.
To emphasize my major point, it appears to me that there is a serious safety concern in the manufacture of an appliance which combines a cooking surface the purpose of which is to reach high temperatures with an adjacent material with a melting point below that which might be reached by normal use.

After moving into a mobile home we installed the cook top and I was awakened by a popping noise, the back left burner had gone one all by itself and was melting a candle holder, thank God I woke up because not only do we live in a mobile home but I had my granddaughter overnight. Also if you have the burners on low they still go high and if not watching it burns the food. I called Frigidarie and they gave me customer # of [REDACTED] they couldn’t do anything till I had model #. I can’t find the model # to the cook top and I would not only like to get it fixed but would like to know if this series has been recalled. Re: Frigidaire Electric Range model# FEF376ASB. The oven was set on 375 degrees with the speed bake control on. After approximately 45 minutes, I smelled smoke and went to check oven. The broiler element was bright red, all controls were still as I had set them for baking. I turned off oven, but the element did not turn off. I had to turn the breaker off to get it to stop heating.
I do not find this model number to be on a recall yet, but obviously this is extremely dangerous and I see that there are many instances of this happening to others.
Please advise what I should do now.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Cooktop 5 burner, multi-select size.
On Monday after cooking dinner and cleaning our cooktop one of our burners would not turn off, in fact when you trid to turn it off it kept getting hotter. Before realizing what was happening I put my hand near the burner and burned my right hand.
We decided to turn this off at the fuse box and have not used the product since. I checked to see if the product was recalled on the Frigidairs website, which it was not. I do have an extended warranty on this appliace and attempted to contact Frigidaire by phone for two days, but simply received a message that the call center was down.
I sent an e-mail today and received the following reply from Electrolux.
Thank you for contacting Frigidaire.
We regret to hear that you are having difficulties with your Cooktop. In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Electrolux Home Products, Inc. is voluntarily recalling certain Frigidaire Electric Cooktops and Slide-in Ranges. Liquids pooling under the control knob can cause the surface heating element to turn on unexpectedly, heat to temperatures other than expected and then not turn off, posing a risk of fire and burn hazards to our consumers.
Regrettably, your Model is listed under this recall; we ask that you stop using and unplug the recalled range or power off the cooktop at the circuit breaker.
Please call1-888-281-5310 between 8:00am to 10:00pm (EST) Monday through Saturday, to schedule a free service call.
Regards, [REDACTED] Upon calling the number listed and speaking to a representative named [REDACTED] I was told this product was not recalled and that I had to start this process all over again tomorrow.
Clearly my model, although not yet recalled, has this same dangerous defect.

The product, in the report: Frigidare electric range less than 8 years old
The oven was set on the lowest temp to keep waffles warm while bacon was being cooked to go with it. In less than 10 minutes after turning the oven on the temperature rocketed to extremely high and began beeping and showing an error message. We could not turn the appliance off and it had to be unplugged to stop it. In the evening we plugged it in again and, without turning the oven on, it superheated again and had to be unplugged . We felt that this presented an extreme fire hazard and that it was fortunate that when it malfunctioned we were right there.
We got rid of this appliance and purchased a different brand.

The product, in the report: Stainless steel glass-top stove and oven.
Summary: The left-front burner on my Frigidaire electric glass-top stove wouldn’t turn off.
Details: When I started cooking, I set the burner to high for about a minute, then reduced the heat to 5. After a couple of minutes I realized the heat was too high. I double checked which control I was using and reduced it again. After another 30 second, the burner was still glowing brightly, so I turned ALL burners off. The burner continued to glow brightly even when all burners were turned off. I double checked again by turning each control on then back off to feel the click, indicating the off position. The burner continued to glow brightly. By this point the teflon pan was removed, but had already been ruined. I shut off power to the stove at the circuit breaker. When I restored power, all seemed normal again. The next morning, my wife was cooking again and the same thing happened.
The stove is now disconnected fearing fire and burn hazards. Maker: Frigidaire Model #: FEFL79GCA Serial #: VF72237353

I writing this to you now to see if anyone eles has been having the same problem. I spent alot money on this stove for it to be acting up already. I should of keep my 1970 stove that worked great, but didnt look good in my kitchen. With my old stove I could lay down and take a nap and not worry about my house catching on fire. The product, in the report: Frigidaire electric wall oven. Black. Model number FEB24S2ABE.
Terrible chemical smell coming from new Frigidaire electric wall oven (model number FEB24S2ABE) after it heats up. More noticeable on HI BROIL setting or on BAKE at high temperatures. I have now had this issue on two different units (see below).
The chemical smell is very difficult to describe in comparison to other known odors. It is NOT a burning plastic smell. It is NOT the smell of the manufacturing oils that burn off in the first few minutes of operating a new oven.
The odor burns the lungs and eyes. It requires airing out the entire house. I am very concerned that the chemicals may be dangerous.
Frigidiare honored the warranty and replaced the original unit manufactured in November 2010 with another unit manufactured in December 2010, presumably at the same plant. The new oven has the same odor issue as the first model, suggesting this issue is probably impacting other consumers.
The two appliance repair technicians servicing the unit indicated that they have never encountered a similar odor in all of their years working on ovens. They needed to leave the house after the odor made them feel ill.
During the ordeal with the two ovens, Frigidaire customer service required that I try a number of things including: - Cleaning the entire inside of the oven with diswashing soap (twice). - Operating the oven at high temperatures (multiple times totalling more than 10 hours). The odor does not have a self cleaning feature, so it was run on HI broil or at 450 - 500 degrees. - Leaving ammonia in a bowl overnight to “soak up” any odors. - Having a technician dismantle the unit to look for mice droppings, insects or burnt wires (none found).
Despite all of the obvious signs that there is something wrong with the manufacturing of these units, and that the smell isn’t going to just “go away”, the appliance repairmen were asked by Frigidaire’s technician hotline to AGAIN run the oven at high temperatures for 3 more hours, releasing more of this unknown chemical into my home.
Needless to say, it didn’t work. Frigidiare has not admitted to any known issues from consumers with new ovens. It’s hard to believe that this is true given that I’ve now been given two defective ovens.
I would like some answers as to what chemical is responsible for the odor, and whether it is a health hazard to humans and/or pets.

The consumer says the front right burner would cut on by itself. He contacted the builder who replaced the whole unit. The consumer says it worked okay for a while, but then if he turned on one burner a different one would turn on. The consumer says the burners are also turning on spontaneously without being turned on. The consumer says his unit is doing the exact same thing as listed in the recall. The consumer contacted the manufacturer who transferred him around to different departments and someone told him they would call him back, yet they never did. The consumer says lastnight he cleaned the range and washed the dishes. He stepped outside for a moment. When he came back inside, the burner was on. Consumer has same brand and product as listed in release # 09-333. His model and serial # are not included in the recall.

The product, in the report: A Frigidaire smooth-top range/oven with broiler. Stainless finish, the range top is black with two large burners in front and two smaller ones in back. Between the two back burners is a “warming zone”. Digital readout, knobs to turn for the burners.
One of the large burners on our smooth-top range malfunctions. Oftentimes, when I turn it on, it will turn itself up to the highest heat level (10) even though I may have it set to a low level, such as 3. It is also difficult to turn the burner off; usually, we have to run downstairs and flip the breaker off for 30 seconds just to get the burner turn off (and once, after the 30 second wait, we turned it on and the burner came back on!).

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Smooth Top Stove/Oven
In August 2009 I heard about a recall on Frigidaire Smooth Top Stoves. The problem described is exactly what I was experiencing. I called the company and was told that my model was not under the recall. Despite having the same problem, I was told that they would do anything about it. The problem consists of the burner either not turning off the first time it is turned off (often have to try several times) and/or not turning down when done so by the knob. This evening while cooking, the burner would not turn off at all. This is a serious fire hazard.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire model FEC30S6AB. Smooth black glass, cook top.
This incident involves Frigidaire smooth cooktop FEC30S6AB. The first unit was purchased new from Grand Appliance on 2/23/08. The kitchen was in process of being remodeled so the unit was installed approximately 1 month later. Upon starting up one of the burners for the first time, a large electrical arc and loud pop came from the unit. The burner went into thermal run-away and would not turn off. For fear of burning down the house, I had to run down stairs to turn off the breaker to mitigate the catastrophic hazard.
I immediately pulled the unit out and returned it to Grand Appliance as an out of box failure. Grand Appliance exchanged the item for another new Frigidaire smooth cooktop FEC30S6AB on 4/6/2008. This unit lasted until 2010 then the lower right burner failed to turn off and began going into thermal run-away. Again, I had to run down stairs to turn off the breaker to mitigate the catastrophic hazard. The unit would intermittently reproduce this failure, with the last failure occurence on 2/5/2011.
I have isolated the failure on the second unit to the lower right burner on this unit and have not used this burner since.
With the wife now home with 2 little kids, the probablity of occurrence and severity present an unacceptable risk level. Internet research has proven this to be a known frequent event by Frigidaire. Frigidaire needs to be held liable for their products. I seek reimbursement of the purchase price.
