The reports, as CPSC published them
Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.
Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Gallery smoothtop stove
We have a Frigidaire Gallery freestanding stove/oven, purchased from The Brick, model # PGLEF375GC1 and Serial # NF70622272. The left rear element comes on by itself and the control knob has no effect. This is incredibly dangerous and could cause a fire and personal injury including loss of life. Certain models have been covered by a recall for the exact same problem, but they refuse to cover this particular model.

No one hurt Made May 24, 2013, sent to the company Jun 4, 2013, published by CPSC Jun 18, 2013
The product, in the report: Electric Range
An explosion in the oven of Frigidaire Mod. FEF375EQA, Ser VF52509202 on 23 May 2013 at approx. 1700. Creating a loud band, flash, and smoke while making dinner. The oven heating element was cherry red when the oven opened. Anything flammable would have ignited. Dinner delayed, and the cook was more than upset. This did blow the range breaker. Upon investigating, a burnout of the oven heating element at the left end, 5 inches from the end of the terminal, and in the middle of a manufactured bend of this element was the location of this problem. The casualty not only blew the breaker, but also blew the electronics system that controls all other functions rendering the oven inoperative. It is my belief that an electrical fire could easily have resulted from the defective heating element.

The product, in the report: 30 inch freestanding stainless steel/ black range with black glass cooktop
On June 30th 2011 I purchased a condo unit equiped with a Frigidaire range model FEFL67DCE the serial number is VF50939693 in which I have rented out.
The problem is the door handle comes loose when you turn on the oven, after it has been hot for awhile, the handle becomes loose and comes off causing the door to come apart all along with a oven that’s heated to 300-450 degrees. My tenents have to keep a screwdriver in the drawer next to the range in order to keep the screw tightened while the oven is in use. Eventually, I feel someone is gioing to get burned the next time this happens. This has to be a design fault caused by some thermal reaction from the screws and /or the handle. I feel the door handle should never come off, especially when the oven is hot, unless you physically unscrew it.
I contacted Frigidaire about this they reminded me the unit is out of warranty which already knew and I will have to pay for a service call for a tech to come out and look at it. He even suggested I purchase a service aggreement on the unit, even though I feel it is a design flaw, and that I know I cannot be the only one with this problem. I feel I should be given a new set of screws and a door handle that should fix the problem.

No one hurt Made May 7, 2013, sent to the company May 23, 2013, published by CPSC Jun 7, 2013
The product, in the report: electric smooth top range with oven
The metal molding around the exterior surface of the range gets extremely hot when the oven is in use. The consumer noticed this problem from the earlier times he used it, but didn’t think much of it. The oven was used at 350 when he noticed the problem, but the consumer became extremely concerned when he used the oven at 450 degrees, because it became hotter at higher temperatures
(5/2 or 5/3) The consumer contacted the retailer and they arranged for a service technician to come out and look at the range/oven.
(5/4/13) A technician from Countrywide Appliance came out and looked at the range/oven. The tech. had asked the consumer to set the oven to 475 degrees prior to his arrival and the consumer did as requested. When the tech. measured the outside molding with an infrared gun, it registered in the range 160 - 166 degrees across various parts of the oven door. The tech. said that it was within specification, because it allowed for 180 degrees.
(5/7/13) The consumer called the mfr. about his concern, but their rep. indicated that they were within specifications. The rep. told the consumer that they would pass this information on to another department.
The consumer also responded to the mfr’s survey and he stated that he felt this presented a potential for a burn.

The product, in the report: Electric Cooking Range, four burners with convection oven, White/ w black glass top.
Our Frigidaire electric range (FGE3055KW) (6CF Elec 4 Burner Trueconv Exp) oven’s outer glass exploded for the second time in two years! We have never used the self cleaning feature. The glass shattered when the oven was cool and not in use during both events.
This time was especially disturbing as our grandchildren came over to visit about fifteen minutes following this breakage and we sent them home in fear that the glass fragments would be harmful to them until we could properly clean up the kitchen and surrounding areas.
I am a manufacturing engineer. In my evaluation of the two events, I hope you will consider my assessment: 1.) A design defect regarding the door’s counterbalance spring components is possibly responsible for the glass stress point and subsequent breakage. The lower extention spring mounting points protrude beyond and appear to contact the outer glass panel’s interior face. This situation applies a single point of contact pressure by the spring’s sharp edged mounting hook whose end protrudes beyond the glass’s interior plane.(contact point.) 2.) Although the glass fragmented, as safety glass is designed to do, is appears to be significantly weaker than oven door glass of the past.
This is the second time the glass has shattered in our home! My wife is now afraid to go near this three (3) year old range. Please inform us if others has experienced this type of malfunction and what, if anything, is our recourse to rectify the current situation and prevent the same event from recurring in the future. We will be spending 1/2 the cost of the range to have it repaired again...
Any assistance you can render will be deeply appreciated,
Sincerely,
[REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Range, Bisque Color, Electric, Free-Standing
When cooking food in the oven, I got an F1 error and the food was burned after the recommended cooking time. After turning the oven off, I again got an F1 error and I noticed that the bottom heating element was burning extremely bright and would not shut off, even though I had shut off the oven! I had to go to the breaker box and shut the breaker off. I have not tried to reset the breaker for fear that the over will turn on spontaneously and burn down my house!

I had finished used several burners on my glass top/smooth surface electric range. I left the room. A little later on I heard a strange noise from my kitchen. The noise had been the cooktop cracking severely, and a chunk falling inside the cooktop underside area. Fissures from the crack ran in 4 directions from the chunk.

Frigidaire Smoothtop Electric Range MODEL# PLEF398DCC SERIAL # VF44455219
Last night while prepping my dinner, the knob control panels turned on and began to flash and make loud beeping sounds. (My stove was not turned on yet...it turned on all by itself) Then all the stove top ranges turned on too. Within 15 seconds an electrical fire broke out from behind the unit. Then the main motherboard turned on, flashed and made noises too, which then caught fire as well.
LUCKILY I was home as I was able to pull the stove away from the wall to stop the fire from igniting the rest of my kitchen, and ran to shut off the main power to the unit from my electric panel.
When I called Frigidaire, they told me the control knobs were recalled and would send me out the replacement parts, but they said they would not replace the main (expensive) control panel (motherboard).
My complaint is that if one recalled electrical part is bad and catches fire and then causes another main part which is right next to it to catch fire, then all the electrical parts in the top part of the unit should be part of the recall as well. Had I not been home, this recalled part of the appliance could have set fire to not only the motherboard, but to my entire house! Therefore, I think to protect myself and future consumers, Frigidaire should expand this recall to include replacing the main control panel as well. Had the recalled parts not went on fire (and just burnt out) then my motherboard would still be intact and not need to be replaced.
Thank you [REDACTED]

We purchased a Electric Range from Best Buy on 12/20/2008. It is a Frigidaire model #FEF368GSA Serial #VF83957295. It was delivered on 12/28/2008. On 1/12/2011 (3yrs. later) the heating element in the bottom of the oven caught fire and disintegrated on the left side of element and burned the bottom of the oven. We called Best Buy who told us it was out of warranty and truly they didn’t care that our house could have burned down with us in it. Luckily we were home and in the kitchen when this happened. They told us to call Frigidaire. At first Frigidaire was not willing to do anything since it was out of warranty but then relented and said to call Colson Appliance and they would cover all but $40 of the bill, which they did. New heating element was put in on 1/13/2011. Then on 2/26/11 we noticed the oven on fire again. We quickly turned it off again. When we opened oven we discovered the heating element had once again caught on fire and disintegrated in the same location as the first one and burned the bottom of the oven further. We called Frigidaire and they didn’t care one bit. My brother said to go online and see if there was a recall. There was but it was for model VF131 xxxxx-VR831 xxxxxx. As you can see we missed it by a few numbers. This recall was in 2009. Wondering if ours would fit in now. Don’t see any online. I called Colson who repaired it the first time and they said it would cost $125. thought that was too much so called Denvers Best Appliance Repair and they said they’d come out and look at it and if we got it repaired they would wave the $55 service call. Well they “supposedly” waived it alright but wanted $359 to fix it. The repair man couldn’t speak English (Bosnian I think)and kept mumbling without even looking in the oven. I gave him the payme

At approximately 11:30am on Saturday 2/23/2013, when turning the oven on, the control panel started making loud popping noises with sparks, then the control panel caught on FIRE. Smoke was coming out the back vents, and we could see flames thru the control panel window. The flames continued and would not go out. I had to pull the unit away from the wall and use a fire extinguisher aimed into the back vents behind the control panel. This finally extinguished the fire. There was minor damage on the wall (just soot), but the fire extinguisher contents when everywhere in the kitchen, ruining an expensive coffee maker.

The product, in the report: frigidaire brand oven, completely black, glass electric top, came with apartment so I don’t know any model numbers; I’m sure my property management would know if necessary.
At about 3 AM I woke up to a huge crashing noise and went into the kitchen and the glass door to my oven was all over the floor. It wasn’t in use, it wasn’t in a cleaning cycle. I probably haven’t used the oven in almost a month. I have no clue to why this happened but I’m happy I wasn’t standing there when it did or I’d be considering a law suit.

The product, in the report: electric range, glass, flat top
On two different occasions, our electric range/stove could have caused a serious incident or fire in our home. A few years ago, our cook top, the back left burner came on and raised and lowered the heat all on its own with out being turned on. This high and low of the heat continued to occur a couple times and the range beeped with error codes. We turned the breaker off to the stove and did not leave on while we were not home. That situation did not occur again. We had the repair service come out and do a repair/replacement of a part (i believe) then some time after that we received possible recall letter for the range and I was told our model was not included in the recall.
Now, November 2012, comes the second incident. While cooking a chicken in the oven on convection mode, after some time had passed, there was a loud bang/pop and flash of light from the kitchen the range was beeping and flashing error codes (I do not recall which codes). While removing the chicken and my husband trying to pull out the range from the wall we began to smell the odor of melting/electrical smell, basically, the start of an electrical fire, so we turned off the breaker and unplugged the range. Once my husband could pull out the range and get behind it, it was too hot to touch the back panel. We have not used the range since and will not, we have figured it is no longer a working range, especially given the lingering smell of burnt electrical that lasted the rest of the evening.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Professional smoothtop electric range and convection oven, 30 inch width, by Electrolux.
I have a Frigidare (Electrolux) Professional series electric range, Model/PLEF398CCB, SN/VF32450983 that I purchased new on 7/26/2003 from Appliance Direct, Melbourne, Florida installed in my kitchen. At the time of purchase I filled out & mailed the product registration form which was supposed to enable me to receive recall information on the product in the unlikely event it was necessary.
On Saturday, Feb 16, 2013, my wife turned on the right front heating element of the glass cooktop to make lunch. We noticed the food was very rapidly cooking, when we moved the pan off the element we noted that the inner heating element (inside section of the expandable element) was operating on full 100% of the time and would not shut down. The control on the stove was in the “off” position for the burner and the display indicated “HE” for a hot element. Moving the knob to various positions had no effect, nor did returning the element control to the “off” position subsequent to this. We turned off the stove at the house circuit breaker panel to avoid a fire. Restoring the power to the stove 2 hours later after cooldown repeated the same results. This appears to be a hard failure. We again pulled power on the stove.
Internet research reveals a voluntary recall on stoves with my model and serial number range for this exact issue. I will be notifying Frigidare/Electrolux this morning of the issue with the range to obtain my repair. I am MOST CONCERNED that I was NOT NOTIFIED OF THE RECALL BY ELECTROLUX prior to an incident occurring that could have resulted in a kitchen fire, especially since I completed and filled out the product registration card upon taking possession of the unit and installing it in 2003. This was an expensive range and I would expect better attention to notification of their customers of a potentially fatal flaw in this type of product then what was provided by the company.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Professional Series Electric Smoothtop Range with Electronic Surface Element Control
While the oven was in use (350 - 450 degrees F), the left rear burner spontaneously turned on and would not turn off until the oven had cooled. The food (roast chicken and vegetables) in the oven at the time the burner turned on was creating steam which was venting from just beneath the control knob for the left-rear burner. The area around the knob was noticeably moist from steam; I presume that condensation from the steam was possibly causing a contact closure in the electronic circuitry in the main power board or at the control knob.
I tried rotating the dial to other settings and back to “off”, but could not get it to register (on the electronic read-out) that it was off (which was expected to be “HE” for “hot element”). Repeated turning of the dial eventually reduced its maximum temperature, but would not turn it completely off. It was possible to reduce the heat indication to as low as 1.2, but placing the control knob in the “off” position would set the digital temperature control reading to “HI” and the burner would be heated to full temperature. The control was adjusted so the indicator displayed its lowest achieved indication (1.2) until it was possible to get the burner off. After the oven was turned off and cooled for about 30 minutes, it was possible to turn the burner to the “off” position and have the heating element cool down (with the expected digital indication of “HE”). I then was able to move the range and unplug it. Plugging it in the following day (today), it worked normally, but the range cannot be trusted to not spontaneously turn on again.

The product, in the report: 30” electric range, self cleaning, solid surface elements, almond color with black glass outer door
I have a 26 yr old Frigidaire self cleaning electric range model REGS-36BC. After being gone all day we came home and found the outer black glass on the oven door had completely shattered for no reason. I hadn’t used the oven in 4 weeks and hadn’t used the self cleaning feature in several years. The glass did break the way safety glass should, however, I don’t understand how this could happen when no one was home or touching the door. Had a person been standing in front of it at the time, they could have been seriously injured, especially a smaller child. I cannot recall the door ever receiving a blow or anything that would have weakened it. It is just shocking that this could happen with no explanation.

The product, in the report: Electric Smoothtop Slide-In Range and Cooktop
There was a kitchen fire on July 5, 2009 involving a Frigidaire Electric Smoothtop Slide-In Cooktop, Model No. PLES 399 ECC, Serial No. NF 61524055. The morning of the incident I had washed some dishes and and other items. The dishes were placed in a dish tray to dry, and I placed a large vase and frying pan on the cooktop to dry. At the time the stove was OFF and the cooking surface was cold to the touch. I had placed a dish towel on the cooktop to catch any water dripping from the vase and frying pan. The vase was located at the front left side of the cooktop and the frying pan was on the back left location. After washing the dishes, I left the apartment to go shopping. When we returned from our errands, we found the Fire Department cleaning up after the fire. At that time, I was interviewed by the Fire Investigator and shared with him what had happened before we left the apartment.
In the fire report it indicated that the cooktop control knob for the Left Front burner was in the ON position when the apartment security personnel responded to the fire alarm in our apartment. I told the Fire Investigator that when I placed the items on the stovetop all controls were in the OFF position. I did not know for sure why the control knob for the Left Front burner was in the ON position, unless I may have accidentally bumped it while retrieving something from the upper cabinet. This was the only explanation I guessed at that time after the fire.
Damage to our unit were the charred stove top and cabinets, and water damages from the fire sprinkler system that was activated. Damage to other units, adjacent to and below our unit also occurred due to the fire sprinkler activation.
On October 27, 2010, all apartment owners and residents in our complex received a Recall Notice from the apartment management office. In the notice it said that the model cooktop in all apartments had a defect that had caused 70 incidents involving this Frigidaire cooktop. The hazard detailed in the recall notice said: “Liquids pooling under the control knob can cause the surface heating element to turn on unexpectedly, heat to temperatures other than expected and then not turn off, posing a risk of fire and burn hazards to consumers.”
The recall notice also informed us that there was a Seal Kit that would be installed to protect against this hazard. And it included a number to call to arrange for the kit to be installed.
While I still cannot be 100% certain how the control knob was turned to the ON position, I now suspect that water dripping from the large vase I had placed on the cooktop, may have gotten behind the control knob to initiate the hazard as detailed in the recall notice.

The product, in the report: Smooth Top Electric Range
Callers purchased a smoothtop electric range in 2002 and never had any problems with it until January 19th, 2013 when callers who were in another room heard beeping coming from their kitchen.
They noted that their smoothtop electric range was beeping and flashing the “F1” code, that the broiler oven was bright red and the counter top was hot. The range had not been used since much earlier that day then turned off, the broiler had not been used at all that day. Caller had to use gloves to move the range from the wall to unplug it and because he was worried about fire and because it was incredibly hot. The stove had become so hot that the outside front panel on the right side became warped.
Callers contacted the manufacturer also on January 19th, 2013, spoke with [REDACTED] who provided account number [REDACTED], offered to send a service tech at thir cost and to sell them a control panel for the range at a cost of around $200 but offered to wave the shipping fees. Caller had spoken with a gentleman first but did not obtain his name.
There are no injuries reported.

The product, in the report: Electric Range. Black and White. The control panel that stands up on the back is black, the cook top is black and the door is black. The rest of the case is white.
While using my oven on 375 degrees baking cookies on the first incident and corn bread on the second incident, the oven switched over by itself from bottom coil(Oven) heating to Broiler(Top coil) heating and burnt the cookies up and the corn bread up. With baking the cookies, I had already baked one sheet of cookies and removed them and placed the second sheet in the oven and closed the door. While I was removing the first batch in a separate room, I smelled something burning and saw that the broil was on and the cookies burnt to a crisp. It scared me so bad. That happened probably around November of 2012. Then a couple of weeks later I was cooking corn bread and the same thing happened. The oven switched from bake to broil by itself. I have to carefully watch anything I bake now. I have probably used the broil only 3 times since we bought it new in 2007 when our house was built.

The product, in the report: Electric Range
I have a Frigidaire Gallery Range that has burners that will not shut off. The 1st incident happened about a year and 1/2 ago, the front left burner would not shut off -- stayed on full blast. had to unplug the range. Warranty was over and had a repair technician come to fix. The part and labor was cost prohibitive to repair, opted to disconnect and never use that burner, allowing us to continue using the rest of the range. Last Saturday, a 2nd burner malfunctioned and will not shut off, the burner is on full blast when the range is plugged in. Had to unplug and the range is inoperable.
With a 2nd burner acting up on the same range, it made me wonder how many more of these are out there that are likely in the same condition. This range is a fire hazard and safety hazard to say the least. I felt I should bring this to your attention. It is upsetting when you spend a lot of money for an appliance and it malfunctions. However, a severe safety defect like my range has is not right. This thing could have burned a house down had we not been home to deal with it right away.
Appreciate your advice regarding any rights I may have. I feel the manufacturer should be responsible for repairing this unit before someone gets hurt.

The product, in the report: Smoothtop electric range
Several years ago I had already complained by phone about the dual surface element on my Frigidaire smoothtop range Model FEFL79GBA, S/N VF72320885. When cooking with both elements, the heat on lowest setting is still so high that food is at a rolling boil. But I was told that there is nothing wrong. I arranged with this problem by switching to the single front element when I want to finish my dishes on low. Two weeks ago, I switched off the left front element, walked into my dining room, and when I got back after 2 minutes the eye was red hot. Fortunately, I had taken the pot off of the element. I thought, maybe something was stuck behind the control, so I tested all elements several times, and they seemed to be fine. Today it happened again. After several turns of the control knob I was finally able to shut the element off. I was ready to hit the breaker seeing this element getting hotter and hotter, as if locked at highest setting. I have notified Frigidaire about this problem today, and also checked the serial number of my range on their recall site with the result that my product is not included in a recall. This range has a flaw, but obviously this model/Serial number has not been recalled.

Unit started malfunctioning in 2010, called Colders/retailer in April2011. Service repairman came out and replaced the control panel and R/S; for a repair cost of $95.03.
The unit continued to get worse as time went on; overheating, burning food and internal elements during the process of cooking. No help, no assistance and no resolution from manufacturer or retailer because of expired warranty.
The internal coating and racks have been burnt to a crisp. The oven gets very hot, and the oven control settings all malfunction. Advised by retailer that unit is not in recall but we are experiencing the same things listed in recall.

We purchased a Fridgedaire electric range model number FPEF3081KF seriel number VF11236101 on July 4, 2011. Tonight, the control panel caught on fire! Thankfully, my husband was in the kitchen at the time or else it could have been tragic since we have a home with four young children. There was no food on the stove, nor was anything burning in the oven. The oven was on at the time, but there was no fire in the oven - it was strickly confined to the control panel. This range is out of warranty since it is over a year old; however, my husband says he would not want it back in the house anyway due to the obvious threat to our home and children. I looked online and saw that many other models were part of a recall, but this was not one of the listed models. I believe that this product is dangerous and needs to be looked at closely.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire 36” smooth, black glass, eletric cooktop with 5 burners. It has five plastic knobs on the surface at approximatly the “6 o’clock” position. This is just the cooktop, not a range or oven.
I have a Frigidaire electric cooktop approximately 5 years old. It has a smooth glasstop with 5 burners. The burners will not turn off properly and will suddenly heat up to the highest temperature without turning the control knob. I noticed that several of their oven/ranges were recalled for this same problem. My unit is a cooktop only. Has there been a recall on these products as well? I have not been able to find the make or model number.

The product, in the report: Electrician Cooktop Stove
Information below was transferred from the Consumer’s email to CPSC.
I purchased a Frigidaire Cooktop model number PLEC36S9EC in August 2007. In November 2007, while the unit was under warranty, I had an electrician replace the right-front burner control because that burner was turning on by itself while the control was in the OFF position.
In October 2010, the product was recalled under CAP# 11-016 because it was a fire hazard. In April 2011, the recall was updated. I have since obtained the free repair kit and had it professionally installed.
Last weekend, my wife and I returned home to find one of the burners ON and glowing bright red with the control knob in the off position.
We could not turn the unit off except by turning off the circuit breaker to the kitchen. Had anything combustible been near the stove our house would likely have burned down. As of now, we have to leave that circuit breaker OFF to prevent a fire in our house.
We have had the unit professionally repaired twice -- the second time using your repair kit.
I no longer trust this product in my home, because I believe that it continues to present a problem similar to the one described in the recall..

This was the second time we used it, and after 20 or 30 min. it began to burn the back of the buttons. The oven was not dirty and there was nothing inside the oven. I called the company and they said I have no guarantee that I have to pay. It is a system defect or design that the company is responsible for, not me. They did not check the problem, the company needs to have criteria where they can identify problems of designs they make. I WILL NO MORE BUY FRIGIDAIRE.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Smooth Top Electric Range with rotary knobs and digital displays.
I had an item baking in the oven at 350 degrees and an item simmering on the stove top set at a 1.4 heat level. Both items were under 5 minutes from being finished cooking. I stood in another room and then could hear what sounded like popping and hissing coming from the kitchen. Within seconds I was back in the kitchen and saw sparks flying from the electrical panel. I tried to read what the panel said, as far as temperature and time, but it was completely blank and then the lights began flashing half zero’s and suddenly flames burst up from behind the panel. The flames started burning upward on the wall, behind the range, up to my microwave placed above it. I then left the room as it filled with smoke very fast and called 911. Within minutes the fire department and EMS were at my location, geared up, went into the house, and discovered that an electrical fire had started from the back side of the electrical panel of the range. They stopped the fire, unplugged the range, and removed it from my house. What was left after that was a strong odor of burnt wiring and fire/smoke damage to my wall. The firefighters used a heat seeker to determine that the fire had not burnt upwards on the inside of the wall or attic space. They checked adjacent and surrounding walls, as well as the microwave, and concluded that the house was safe from any more flames or damage.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Gallery Series 30” Electric Smoothtop Range. ES300 Control, Self-Cleaning Oven with Ceramic Cooktop
Frigidaire Gallery Series Smoothtop Electric Range will not turn off after being switched off. The burner will switch to high heat setting on its own without being selected. This is an ongoing occurrence. I am not able to use the right front burner at all because last time it would not cut off after it switched over to a high heat setting and my husband had to pull the stove out from the wall while the burner was still on and unplug it in order to turn the stove off. This could have potentially burned him as well as catch something on fire if I had not caught it in time. The left burner is also switching over to a high heat setting on its own when I am cooking on medium heat. Very disappointed in the Frigidaire company right now. I called to get help from the customer service line and explained that I saw there was a recall on several of their ranges but because mine was not included in their recall, they would not help me even though my range has the exact issues that are described in their recall on the other ranges. I will never purchase a Frigidaire again. PERIOD.... I guess I have to wait until someone gets burned or my home burns down before something is done..... Don’t purchase Frigidaire anything.....

When he checked he found that although his model matched the recalled appliances his serial number did not. The manufacturer at that time still repaired his unit but has informed him that they will not repair it at their cost at this time.
The range now heating on the right to temperatures exceeding set temperature. example if set at simmer (2.5) it still heats continually.
Range is easily turned off.
Caller would like his range investigated, recalled and repaired at manufacturer expense. If Range has been repaired by consumer by this time he would ask to be reimbursed at manufacturer expense.

My husband was using the stove (cooktop) portion of our oven. The oven was not on and had not been turned on in at least 4 days. The outer front glass of the door spontaneously exploded and shattered thousands of pieces of glass throughout my kitchen, into cabinets, under the stove, under my dishwasher and cabinets with tremendous force. There has never been any crack, bump or any kind of “trauma” to the oven door. Fortunately, no one was injured. The inner glass remained intact.

I was unable to put the fire out at first but something said turn it off and I did and I threw a large wet dish towel on the flames to put it out. There was nothing that spilled on the element the fire was a little red with blue glow and looked as if the fire was spreading along the element itself.

I have a Frididaire Electric cooktop. Last night I smelled smoke. A dish on left on the stove was burning. One of the burners was spontaneously on be itself. The only way to turn it off was to trip the circuit breaker for the appliance. I check at Frigidaire. There is a product recall on some of their cooktops with the exact same problem as mine, but mine is not part of the recall.
This could have caused a fire.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Professional Series electric range model # PLEFMZ99ECJ
I have a frigidaire professional series electric range. When using the oven on bake the baking element does not come on but the broiler element does and I can not shut it off. It overheats, starts beeping and flashes code F10 which means runaway temperature. It can not be shut off. I have to shut it off at the breaker. Called a repairman and he said it needs a new electronic oven control panel & sensor which is $300 part, plus service call & labor. He also said frigidaire has had a lot of this problem, it’s dangerous, don’t use it until repaired & suggested I call to see if there is a recall yet. There is not & frigidaire says they can not help me. I have been doing a lot of research the last 2 days & have found endless complaints on various web sites about this issue. Seeing as it is a fire hazard & especially because you have to turn it off at the breaker why isn’t there a recall!

I have a Kenmore smooth top range that I purchased in 2008 that turns itself on. The burners will come on themselves without reason. They turn on high while the knob is in the off position. I have to turn the oven off at the main breaker to avoid a fire. We first discovered the issue when we had a loaf of bread on the cook top that melted the wrapper and burnt the bread. Thankfully we were home at the time so the kitchen did not catch on fire. This is a very serious issue and I would love some sort of remedy.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Gallery Series Range
We were baking a cake in the oven of our Frigidaire electric range and the broiler turned on by itself. Luckily, I checked on the cake before it was supposed to be done. The top was completely black and smoke came pouring out of the oven when I opened it. If I would have waited another minute or so, it would have started on fire. We immediately ran down and turned off the breaker to the stove. We waited overnight and then turned the oven on again the next morning to test it. Sure enough, after about 5 minutes we checked it again and the broiler had turned on by itself again. We pulled the oven out and disconnected the broiler, but I’m still concerned about the oven being a fire hazard and we are afraid to use it.

Fridgedaire slide in electric stove and oven , Model FES367ABE, Serial # NF24812721 The oven cleaning program started on its’ own and I could NOT get the oven door open because the door locked and would not open! My cookware is stored in oven and were melting and black smoke spilled out of the oven vents with a horrible smell. Even after unplugging the electric outlet the oven would not open and the cookware continued to cook and smoke heavily. My husband and I kept plugging and unplugging the electric outlet and the oven would NOT open. The stink and black smoke was horrible. Finally, after many efforts my husband was able to get the door open and get the cookware out. They were melted and ruined and the smell is still in our home. I contacted the Fridgedaire consumers at [REDACTED] and spoke to supervisor, [REDACTED], after I could not get the help I wanted. Was told I was NOT under warranty and that the best he could do was give me a discount on parts! I have to pay for service call, labor and the parts! Why? After reading complaints about this product, my incident is NOT isolated. Fridgedaire has had lots of reports for defects. Some were recalled, but not this particular one. I asked for new unit and thought given the seriousness of the defect and fire, this was reasonable. In other incidents the company did replace the unit. We live on fixed disability income and can’t afford even the repairs. Is it my fault the unit is defective and could have burned down my house had I not been home? Why do some people get replaced units and some don’t? Can I get help, please?

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Glasstop Range
This is the second time this has happened and I want some answers! I have a Frigidare Glasstop range that came with the purchase of a new home in 2009. In October 2011 several of cooktops came on by themselves and could not be shut off via the knobs. After trying for several minutes in vain I had to unplug the entire range to get it to stop. After calling several different numbers for the manufacturer I finally get a response and a technician was sent to repair the stove. Well now in September 2012 it has happened again. I was boiling water on the back cooktop and the front one came on at full blast and would not shut off. So once again I had to unplug this unit before it shut off. I will call again for it to be repaired but I will not feel safe until this unit is replaced.

The product, in the report: Glass top Frigidair electric range
At the rear of the stove, (top left backside, behind where the controls are located) the stove started sparking, and caught fire (no damage to surrounding area). The smell of electrical burn was strong. The stove top is now non-operational due to the control unit not working. The unit has been unplugged and is no longer in use.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Dropin Cooktop Model # FEC30S6ABF
The front right hand burner of our Frigidaire cooktop model FEC30S6ABF turned itself on after the knob was turned to the off position. The unit had to be turned off at the breaker to get it to turn off. I contacted Frigidaire and they informed me that my model was not included in the recall of 200,000 of their units in 2009 and unless I had an extended warranty they would not do anything.
