The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Free Standing Electric Range-Glass Top-Self Cleaning Oven

While roasting some potatoes, the left back burner on my Frigidaire free standing electric range turned itself on high. After I noticed this, I tried to turn the burner off, but the burner would come back on at full heat. The digital display began to display numbers that did not match the knob settings (for instance when I turned the knob to off, the display read high, and when I turned the knob to High, it read 1.2). The tap would flicker “HE” like it was going to turn off, but would immediately turn back on within a minute. The only way we could get the tap off was to disengage the wiring that goes to this particular burner. I researched the issue and discovered that there was a recall on this model of stove, but that the recall did not extend to my serial number. The recall ended with serial numbers VF831XXXXX, and my serial was VF91058106. My stove exhibited the same problems as the recalled stoves (original recall October 2010), so I called Frigidaire to see if there was anything they could do. I was told that since my serial number was not included in the recall, there was nothing they could do, even though the technician acknowledged my stove had the same issue as the recall. Frigidaire Glass Top Free Standing Electric Range (self-cleaning oven) Model: FEFLZ87GC D Serial: VF91058106 This could have started a fire or injured my small children (ages 2 and 4). I now have a stove with only 3 burners working (since we disconnected the control in the back panel), but I am afraid to use this stove. According to the recall, the oven is not properly vented, and moisture can enter the control panel for the back burners causing them to spontaneously heat and turn on. I believe this is what happened because steam was exiting from the back of the stove causing condensation in the left burner control knob and display. The design of the oven itself is flawed. Frigidaire refuses to fix the problem.

I was cooking something in the oven and I came back a few minutes later and noticed the oven was glowing. I opened the door and saw the heating element was on fire. I turned everything off and noticed the heating element had broke off in two places. I am glad I noticed this or it could have caused a major house fire. This oven is only three years old, but out of warranty.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire freestanding electric range(Smooth glass top range)

I have a Frigiadaire freestanding range that comes on by itself. When using the oven the top burner came on to the highest setting. The burner controls were in the off position. The only way to shut it off is by turning off the power to the range. This has happened at least three times so far. This product is a fire and safety hazard and should be taken off the market and removed from the consumers house. This product has the potential to come on while unattended and burn down the house or cause serious bodily injury.

The product, in the report: white Frigidaire FEFL63FSB range

Frigidaire FEFL63FSB range (2009) Oven element when turned on for preheat, turned white caught fire and shattered. The right front stove top element heats at extreme temperatures regardless of setting. left front stove top will turn itself off & or you will need to manipulate the dial repeatedly to get it to turn on. 2 days after warranty ended the light bulb on the oven appeared to have burned out. When replaced never worked again. When I called the company they advised not on recall list that warranty was over and that the element in oven had burned out. That it was similar to a person having a stroke. Sorry lost them here. Had no idea what the reference was intended to imply. Actually found it offensive. Sounds like similar problems as the recalled ranges had?

My Frigidaire cooktop Model FEC30S6ABF (Serial #: NF81309940) has a manufacturer date of March 2008 on the bottom. One of the burners does not turn off. I can’t get anyone from the company to call me back to handle this.

I found another person with the exact same model experiencing the same issue. It’s the same problem we are having and its very dangerous when the cooktop will not turn off. I’m afraid this will lead to a house fire. http://www.saferproducts.gov/ViewIncident/1239985

(07/31/2012) The consumer stated that she was cooking dinner. She also had dinner in the microwave which is above the stove. She heard a crackling noise. She went to shut off the microwave and then saw the flames shooting out form the back of the stove behind the control panel. The consumer’s husband pulled the stove out and killed the main power switch which cut off the power. The fire went out and he sprayed it with the fire extinguisher. The stove had been on for about 10 or 15 minutes before this happened. This was the first time that this had happened.

The consumer stated that the back of the control panel was damaged. The oven door was broken when stove was pulled from the wall.

The consumer stated that the manufacturer was contacted on 07/31/2012. The manufacturer sent a repair technician on 08/03/2012. The technician took pictures and looked at the product. He determined that it could not be repaired and he would contact Frigidaire. The husband called the manufacturer 08/07/2012. He was advised that they have not received the paperwork.

UPDATE: Consumer wants it to be known that after the fire, they researched the product and found it had been recalled, and they were never notified.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire “Professional Series” glass top stove (electric)

We purchased a Frigidaire “Professional Series” glass top stove within the last three years. Today, 08/04/2012, my husband came home and found the house filled with smoke. My husband called the Fire Department and soon after they arrived, they traced the cause of the smoke to the stove. They pulled the stove away from the wall and determined a “short” must have occurred in the rear lower panel of the stove. The steel on the back panel was melted and had turned white from the heat. The heat set the kitchen wall on fire. Fortunately, the breaker had tripped before my husband came home and found the smoke. The wall was still smoldering red embers when the stove was pulled away from the wall. The entire stove was hot to the touch, including the control panel and the entire glass top surface. The stove had not been used by myself or my husband since Thursday, 8/2/2012 and all the controls were in the ‘Off” position. If my husband had not come home when he did, this “defect” would have burned down our entire house. When I researched the stove on-line, I discovered several recalls related to the stove. We were not notified of these recalls. We have made a claim with our insurance. This is outrageous. This should NOT happen!.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire professional stove (electric)

I purchased a Frigidaire professional stove about a year and a half. Since then, the stove top has been switching on extemporaneously and when I try to cut it off, it doesn’t cut off, resulting in me unplugging the stove. I am very frightened about the problem because this occured once when I was sleep and coincidently, I could hear the tick of it’s start-up and was able to cut it off before anyone was harmed.

After this incident, I researched and realized that others were having the same problem and that the product was recalled. I immediately called the Recall Hotline and they sent a replacement part quickly. The part was operable until about 1 week ago (roughly 1 month after the recall item was repaired). I was resting again and heard the same start-up tick. I called the Recall Hotline again and the product was replaced yet another time. While speaking with the service technician, he advised me that there is an accessory piece that surrounds the stovetop to reduct the amount of moisture to the motherboard. He recommended this to me and said it may resolve the issue, however, I was responsible for the payment. I called the Recall Hotline and spoke with [REDACTED], who advised me that I will have to purchase the accessory part because it was not covered. She was very argumentative and indicated that Frigidaire was indeed not responsible for the part.

I know the Electrolux Group prides itself on having innovative and quality products in order to maintain its sustainability goals globally. I am emailing because I purchased the stovetop brand new not purchasing any accessory parts, however, for the product to be opearble it seems to be required. If this is the case, then the part should not be an accessory, but a requirement and why do I now have to pay the accessory part so that I don’t have a potential fire. I am an insurance underwriter and I am well aware of liability and potential hazards that could evolve and my concern is why is your company not proactive in making sure the parts are operable with no additional hazards. As a pregnant woman, I am very concerned about this item because I am not always going to be around when the stove spontaneously cuts on. My husband is in the military and is out a lot to sea, so I am not able to manage the spontaneous cut-ons of the stove and take care of a newborn baby-- worse case scenario is if a fire starts when I am not at home. I would just like to have an operable stove without paying out of pocket any more money that I have already paid for this stove--upwards of $160--and if it requires contacting the needed sources to looking into this, then I will do everything possible to maintain a safe environment in the home. I would like to resolve this matter as soon as possible, so if you have any options for this matter, please contact me.

    Thank you for your time.

The product, in the report: Smooth Top Electric Range

Frigidaire electric smooth top range, front left burner does not shut off all the time even when knob is rotated to the off position. Sometimes turns its self back on after a brief time. Burner will not heat consistently, sometimes goes to hi heat on it’s own.

Went to frigidaire.com to get information on my malfunctioning smooth top electric range and noticed a recall due to fire hazard. Contacted Frigidaire’s recall center and gave them my model and serial number and was told that model number was not under the recall notice. I explained that our electric range was doing the exact same thing as the recall and that the serial number was within the range noted on the recall. We were directed to customer care and was told the only thing Frigidaire would do is refer us to a service provider in our area.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Gallery Smoothtop Electric Range, model GLEF396CSB, serial VF33526764. Freestanding style.

I purchased a Frigidaire Gallery Smoothtop Electric Range, model GLEF396CSB, serial VF33526764, on 25 May 2004. It has worked well. I did register the product, and I have not received a recall notice from Frigidaire company. I had, however, saved a note about the recall—from a 2009 newspaper.

How happy I am that I did save that article, because yesterday, about 5 p.m., my front right burner failed to turn off after being switched off.

I’d made stovetop chili, had it on simmer for a while, turned off the burner, but left the pan over the burner. My husband came through the kitchen and asked, “What’s burning?” Of course I had no idea—until he lifted the pan! There was the burner, red hot!

Thank heaven it hadn’t sat for more than six minutes—both pan and chili were okay, but we could not get the burner to turn off. Finally tripped the breaker switch.

What if he had not walked by? What if I’d left the pan, thinking it was off, and gone to do laundry or gardening????? Has the company been sued for fires that resulted from such a malfunction? Glad I don’t have that to write about!

According to the information I subsequently found online on: aboutlawsuits.com/Frigidaire-and-kenmore-smooth-top-electricrange-recall-5664/ and on cooktoprecall.com/node42 and consumerffais.com/recalls04/2009/Frigidaire.html and Office of Information and Public Affairs in Washington, D.C., I am to write to Frigidaire “to schedule a free repair.”

So this is similar to my letter to them requesting such free repair, at the earliest time possible; as you must know, no part of the range can be used without the front burner coming fully and dangerously on.

    Thank you.

My Frigidaire cooktop which I bought new in March of 2008 started getting stuck on high heat no matter which setting it was on. I would be able to just turn it off. Then it started sticking on high and I was not able to get it to shut off at all unless I turned the breaker off. I looked online to see if there were similar problems to mine. I found there was a recall on certain models for this very problem so I called Frigidaire but was told my cooktop was not among the ones under recall even though mine is doing the very thing the others were being recalled for. Evidently this is a recurring problem but they are not willing to stand behind their product. I am very disappointed in them and will not buy another Frigidaire product. I believe this to be a very serious problem on a cooktop that is not that old!

The product, in the report: Smooth Top Electric Range

Thursday, July 12th, 2012 caller’s two yr old electric smooth range top exploded in an audible fireworks type of explosion.

No fire or sparks but the “boom” sound it made reminded caller of fireworks.

She had food on the right front set to low temperature, had her one year old grandson in her arms while she was stirring the pot but had placed him in his highchair.

The only burner lit was this right front burner, however the left front burner blew up with the extremely loud noise.

Glass flew everywhere, going approximately two feet out from the stove, in front of the stove.

All glass pieces were very, very small with the exception of those still on the range and those were a bit larger.

Caller and husband contacted the manufacturer July 13th, 2012 via email and received response with list of options for calls but seemed totally detached from the situation.

Caller’s will be attaching pictures to their copy of the report.

Food was ruined, caller is asking that her range be inspected and replaced at manufacturer expense with different model but at same value of $1400 paid for this one. .

The product, in the report: Electric Range

The caller stated that he is experiencing similar problems of Release #11-016.The electric range right front burner heat to temperatures other than expected and then not turn off. Whenever this incident occurs he has to switch it off from the circuit breaker. This has been ongoing for the past 3 months when he moved into the house. On 7/13/12 the manufacturer was contacted and he was advised that this model was not part of the recall and he could file a report with the agency. The caller feels that this range is a fire hazard and should be recalled. NOTE: Caller purchased home with range already installed.

CONSUMER ADDED: It is important to note that when the right front burner of this electric range stovetop malfunctions that it always causes the aforementioned burner to become stuck on full/high heat The control knob for that burner no longer controls the heat setting. The burner is stuck on high. Even with the control knob turned off the right front burner remains on high. The only way to turn off the burner is to terminate the electrical feed to the stovetop by running outside and switching the circuit breaker off. Even then, it takes considerable time for the burner to cool down.

As stated in the Incident Details section of this report, this problem is similar to the one listed in Release #11-016; however there is one exception. That report states that the electric range only malfunctions if liquid is spilled and seeps under the control knob. This is certainly true; every time liquid seeps under the control knob for the right front burner, it becomes stuck on high. However, additionally, the right-front burner of my electric range has experienced the same malfunction even when no liquid has been spilled and the surface is dry. Thus, liquid spills are not the only cause of the malfunction.

The product, in the report: Electric Range/oven

The caller stated that the electric range /oven was in use at a temperature of 350 degrees. Approximately 5 mins later he noticed that the oven was extremely hot, he opened the door and the interior glass was crack and the contents were burnt. The sealing of the oven door was charred. The glass door was warped and interior of oven was charred as well.

The caller immediately turned off the oven. There was one instance where he had a grease fire while the unit was on oven clean. There was no prior incident of this nature.

The manufacturer was not contacted as yet.

The caller stated that he noticed that there was a recall but not for his model.

The caller is concerned that this range/oven is a fire hazard and should be reported.

I purchased a Frigidaire Range Model #GLEF369DQJ recently the left front burner started coming on at will the only way to turn it off was to unplug the range. I called Frigidaire and I was told that there was nothing that could be done due to the fact it was no longer in warranty, I commented that what if someone was to get burnt, or my home was to catch on fire, I was told to keep it unplugged when not in use. She told me that there was no recall on my model, that was on 06/18/2012 they gave me a account# to refer back incase something bad happens, like fire or injury. My question is why isn’t my model being recalled when it has the same trouble as those that are??

The product, in the report: Electric Range Slide In

The caller stated that his electric range/ oven had received the recall remedy under Release # 09-333 (not sure of the year). However, the same incident occurred a few months later. He had to place a sign “Do not Turn on”. The smooth top front and back burners comes on by itself and the temperature cannot be controlled. He had to use the circuit breaker to switch it off. He is also experiencing problem with the oven as well.

He contacted the manufacturer and was advised that a service rep would be sent out for repairs.

He and his family had received minor burns from this range. The range is being kept off by the circuit breaker to prevent a fire.

The caller is concerned that repairing a fire hazard unit will not solve the problem and that the range should be replaced.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Electric Stove ceramic top.

I own a Frigidaire electric stove, serial #VF61859231

The stove top burners go on by themselves at any point in time. There is no way to shut it off. Last night June 20, 2012 I heard a beeping noise in the kitchen at about 2:00AM. The burners were on at “Hi” according to the digital screen, yet the manual control knob was in the off position. I could not shut off the stove top burners and they were red hot. I had to shut off the breaker in order to turn off the burners. I am very concerned about the potential for a fire.

Prior to this the stove top burners could go on if the oven was heating or if you placed a hot item on the stove top. Frigidaire has sent several service repair men and each time they assured that the problem was fixed.

This is the first time the stove top has gone on by itself in the middle of the night and it seems that the problem is getting worse and more dangerous. The stove could go on by itself when no one is home and continue to heat until something catches fire. Or someone who does not know of this problem could leave something on the stove top and it will catch fire. This last happened to me, when I placed a carry out roasted chicken in a plastic on the stove top to cool off. This was how I discovered the problem. Fortunately I was home, I smelled the smoke and was able to stop the fire before it caused damage. I have pictures to prove my case.

frigidaire cooktop will not turn off and not heating at set temperature. Model FEC30S6ABF Today I was boiling water on high and turned it to simmer. A few minutes later the pot was boiling over. The eye was glowing on a low setting so I tried to turn it off it took 3 attempts before it turned off. A month ago this happened on that day I had to turn the eye off using a circuit breaker. That time when set to off it would glow then go dark and glow again repeatedly. The breaker stopped the cycle.

I have a Frigidaire stove Model FEC30S6AS. The front burner turns on by itself, and then will not turn off; it has to be turned off at the breaker. In addition, the stove burner when turned on will heat up to high heat instantly. It is a fire hazard.

I have contacted a Frigidaire servicer, but Frigidaire has sent the wrong part to them four times. I have called Frigidaire, but they refuse to be of assistance to me. They are, however, willing to sell me a new stove; they are not willing to replace or repair my stove. I have been working with them now for over eight months and no resolve has been found.

Similar models with similar problems have been recalled. I’m guessing because this is an entry level appliance Fridigaire is not willing to recall it. However, it is faulty, presents a hazard, and should be recalled.

    Frigidaire electric smooth cooktop Model# FEC32S6A series Serial# NF71723712

We brought this unit on 6/18/07, have been using it for almost 5 years, last week while my wife is cooking the right front element won’t turn off & stuck on high constantly, the only way I can turn it off is at the breaker box in the garage, it did happen again next day when I turn it on, now we can only use three elements instead of four, and wondering when the next one is going to go bad.

Its dangerous because not everyone know where & which breaker to turn off, this kind of cooktop is suppose to go on & off as it cooks, if people is not paying attention the cooktop will crack & start a fire as it get too hot.

Most of this Frigidaire cooktop are using the same technology regardless of models, & there’s a lot of people having the same or similar problem. Thanks for looking into it.

I have a Frigidaire smooth cooktop Model #FEC30S6ABF. The right front burner will sometimes not turn off when the switch is in the off position. It also heats up to it’s maximum temperature setting even when the switch is in the off position. I was finally able to rotate the switch knob back and forth and eventually get the burner to turn off. I’ve removed the switch knob so nobody can turn it back on. After searching on the internet, I’ve found quite a number of people with this model who are experiencing the same problem. Many of them also say the burner is coming on all by itself, although I’ve not seen that yet in my unit. Many of the comments on the internet tell of replacing the defective switch only to experience the same problem later on with the new switch. I have tried to contact them via e-mail on thier website, but every time I hit “send” I get an error report. HELP!

We were sleeping. The cooktop had a cookie sheet with a silicon baking pad on it and about a half dozen cookies. The right back burner turned on automatically, scorching the pan and pad and burning the cookies. The house filled with dense smoke and now the smoke odor is in everything. Frigidaire is sending us paperwork to file a smoke damage claim. They will not fix the range because it is out of warranty (unless I pay for an extended warranty).

This is a very dangerous range. We are turning off the electrical circuit until we can get it replaced or repaired.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Smoothtop Electric Range

This report refers to the Frigidaire smoothtop electric range, Model Number FEFB79GSA, Serial Number VF71919068. Front left eye remains on high and cannot be turned off or turned down. The first time this happened, we were able to switch it off by quickly turning the knob back and forth. This time, the eye cannot be turned off at all. We had to flip the breaker to the kitchen to cut the power, and once it cools down, we will unplug the stove. When we called Frigidaire to ask about this issue, they said they couldn’t help, the stove is not under warranty, and there is no recall. We’ve checked online and there is no recall notice for this model/serial number.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Kitchen Range Model Number LGEF3043KFC Serial Number VF0456082

My Frigidaire kitchen range: Model Number LGEF3043KFC; Serial Number VF0456082; was used in the self cleaning mode for the first after owing it for almost one year.

The range got so hot and seamed not to seal properly. The heat escaping from the top edge of the door melted the adjacent cabinet door fronts and an adjacent cabinet door. We smelled something like plastic burning and saw vapor coming from the cabinets. The range was shut off and the cabinets opened to avoid a fire.

Frigidaire refuses to acknowledge this happened and wants the defected part back. Lowe’s, where the range was purchased was informed and replaced the range with an new one of a different make.

They saw the letters I relieved from Frigidaire and are asking for a ‘RO’.

All I want is for them to pay for the cost I incurred. They refuse to pay for the ‘alleged incident.’

I now feel this range is defective and they do not want to acknowledge it.

The product, in the report: Electric ceramic top range

The consumer stated that she was cooking on the front-right burner of her electric range and she stated she only had one burner on. She had it on a high temperature to bring it to a simmer and then she reduced the temperature to low. She had the burner on for approximately 2 hours before the incident.

The meal was done and the consumer moved the pot she was using to another burner (that was off). The consumer had heard a noise and disregarded the noise thinking that it was just the moisture producing it. The consumer realized that there was a crack that went across the burner, splitting it in half. The consumer did not see any smoke or sparks.

The damages were limited to the range and the consumer did not suffer any injuries.

The consumer contacted the manufacturer and they informed her that it was not on a recall. The consumer stated that the manufacturer did not seem very concerned about the incident she experienced.

The consumer also contacted the retailer and they informed her to not turn on the range because it could explode. The representative also informed her that she would have to pay $219 for the parts and $115 to install the part.

The consumer feels that this is a fire hazard.

She was able to jiggle the knobs on prior occasions to power it off, but this time it would not turn off she had to switch it off from the circuit breaker. 4/12/12 The manufacturer was contacted and she was advised that her range was not part of the recall, although she is experiencing similar problems as Release # 09-333. The consumer is concerned that this range is a fire hazard especially with her children and should be included in the recall.

My wife turned the oven on to heat it up for cooking and after a few minutes we heard a loud pop and smoke came from the under side of the control panel and it smelled like electrical fire. It tripped the breaker when this happened. We were in the kitchen when it happened. We called a repair service who came and checked the unit and determined that the circuit board has shorted out and informed us of recalls on this product. After calling the recall number they informed me that this was not covered by the recall but they would send the “kit” to fix the problem that is covered under the recall but were not liable for the problem we are having with their product.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire electric range Model LGEF3043KFA

I purchased a Frigidaire Gallery electric range model #LGEF3043KFA on July 12, 2009. On April 10, 2012 I was using the convection oven at 350 deg. F to bake a cake. Approx. 20 minutes into the baking time, my smoke detectors went off. I ran to the kitchen where I found that the top broiler element was on and had burned the top of the cake. I removed the burned cakes from the oven. I had not previously turned on the broiler feature. I then cancelled the quick bake function, but the unit would not turn off. I looked in the oven and the broiler element appeared to be brighter and there was extreme heat coming from the oven.

I heard a popping noise and then noticed that fire was coming from within the control panel.

I pulled the stove away from the wall, turned off the breakers, and called 911 for assistance.

I have called Frigidaire to register this incident as the fire men suggested. The customer service representative at Frigidaire said that since the unit is not on their recall list, is not within warranty, and is not a liability issue (since the fire did not damage my home) that I would need to contact their authorized servicer to determine what was the cause of the fire. Once the servicer provided me with a report, I would then need to fax that report to Frigidaire and they would determine if they would assist me in repairing the unit.

I find it appalling that this company has had these issues in the past and continue to “pass the buck” when electronic failures in their units can claim lives and property.

At 6 pm, we began a three-hour self cleaning cycle on our Frigidaire oven/cooktop (model PLEFMZ99ECA, serial VF53147024). Even for a self-cleaning cycle, it produced a lot of smoke.

At 9 pm, the display showed the cycle ending. However, no reduction in smoke followed, and a large amount of heat was still generated.

At 11 pm, we began looking for the breaker, which we located and threw at 12 pm. Shortly afterward, we discovered the range had been recalled. At this point we opened the door after checking to make sure that the oven itself was not the primary heat source.

At 2 pm, the stove was still too hot to touch and emitting smoke. In order to rule out the possibility of an electrical fire, we had to call the fire department. They moved the oven outside and tested for carbon monoxide.

We were glad to see our model had been recalled. We hope that you take any similar concerns seriously; obviously any wiring issues in a self-cleaning oven are extremely hazardous!

Frigidaire smooth top range, model #FEFL79DSL, serial #VF70523127: Left front element overheated while on low setting, causing damage to a pan being used. We subsequently discontinued using this element and removed the control knob. The large element on the front right began heating to higher temperatures, so a low setting is heating to a medium/medium high setting. So we subsequently began using this element only when we need to cook at higher temperatures.

SEEMS TO HAPPEN MORE OFTEN WHEN I TURN KNOB FROM HIGH TO LOW THAN WHEN I START ON LOW AND INCREASE TEMP. KNOW MY OTHER FRONT BURNER IS DOING THE SAME THING. STILL NO RECALL ON THE FRIGIDAIRE WEBSITE. WHEN IT DOES THIS THE KNOB MAKES A SPARKING SOUND.

On Tuesday, January 24, 2012 I went to my kitchen to get a cup of water before going to sleep and I noticed my wife standing in front of the Frigidaire Electric Range Model FEF356GBA. I walked towards her and she asked me if I could hear “that” noise. I approached and started listening and it was like an electric noise, like some kind of short circuit noise. While we were looking smoke start to emanate from the back of the range! I immediately pull the range out from the counter and unplug it. I go get my tools and remove the range’s back panel to see if I could see what the problem was. I noticed that the connection to the oven’s light bulb had burn marks on it! So I decided to remove the electric cables connected to the light bulb and applied black electric tape to the metallic connectors to isolate them. Whew! If my wife hadn’t noticed that sound, that was for sure a FIRE in the middle of a WINTER night! Not fun at all. I called Frigidaire just before posting this and they simply opened an account for me and treated it as what it seemed like business as usual. Their representative simply told me that there were no recalls on that range and I told her that in such a case they should immediately start considering doing one because when a fire can result from a problem with an appliance that is no joke and people’s lives are in danger.

I have a Frigidaire Gallery electric range, model no. GLES388CSA. It was made in June 2003 but wasn’t put into service until the end of 2004. I have read about the recall on other models (after this happened). This isn’t on the list. I had noticed recently that the right front burner wasn’t getting as hot as it was earlier. I don’t use the burners that often. Now I have noticed the left front burner isn’t getting as hot. I can no longer boil water on either burner. I put spaghetti sauce on the right rear burner. I set the temp at medium. The temperature went all the way to high. I set it at low and it remained on high. I think maybe they should have recalled other models. After reading the horror stories about Frigidaire ranges, I am afraid to use it.

September 24th, 2011 while caller and his wife were preparing to go out to dinner, he reached above the electric stove to the cabinet and as he reached then turned away, his stomach turned the control knob and turned on the stove but he did not notice.

Callers returned from dinner approximately three hours later and noticed that there was so much smoke in their house that it was compared to a gray cloud with acrid smelling smoke.

Callers wife turned burner off, then callers opened all the windows and doors, turned fans on to clear smoke.

After the smoke cleared they noticed that a plastic lid that was on top of the stove had melted and dripped melted plastic into a pot that was on the burner on the right rear burner that had been accidently turned on when caller reached over & above stove to the cabinet.

Callers have not contacted the manufacturer but do intend to call them.

Insurance Evaluator came to house, sent stove to Engineering Company who identified the stove as the cause of the incident and informed caller and his wife not to use the stove or if there was another smoke or fire issue he would not be covered for that one. He has not received the written report from his insurance company yet

Caller is requesting that his stove be replaced due to safety issue that the knob could be turned without his touching it with his hand.

After placing a pizza in the oven on 375 degrees the control panel began to blink and make a unusual noise then there were flames coming from the back of the control panel. The flames grew a few feet tall spreading to the microwave that was located above it and the cabinets surrounding it.

He pressed the clear button on the control panel which caused the flames to disappear. He pulled the range from the wall and unplugged it immediately.

The consumer learned of the recall (see Release #09-333) and contacted the firm on 12/27/2011 and the parts were sent out to the consumer and he was scheduled for service on 12/30/2011.

The technician came out to the home repaired the range under the recall but the range still had no power to it. He contacted the firm again on the same date and was advised that the repairs were made under the recall but he would be responsible to pay for any additional repairs.

The consumer indicated to the representative that his family could have been seriously injured by the range. He informed them that the part that was affected by the recall was the failure and that was the reason there is no power to the unit.

The consumer was advised of the part numbers that were needed for the range to work properly. There currently has not been any additional repairs to the range and it is still currently unplugged from the wall outlet.

The left front burner on my stove does not shut off at times. It also changes temperature while turned on. For example, last night I had a pot on simmer and I did not touch anything after 15 minutes of cooking it turned to high without me changing the knob. I then had to rotate the control several times to get it to turn off.

The stove has occassionally had problems with that burner turning off. Last night was the first time it changed temperature by itself.

I am the original owner of the stove, I purchased it in 2007.

The stove is a Frigidaire model FEFB79GBA. The Serial number is VF73542192.

I contacted the manufacturer because there is a recall on similar stoves, but mine is not included in the recall.

Consumer stated that while the electric range front left burner was in use for approximately 3-5 mins, the temperature increased to highest level on its own which caught the pot and plastic spatula on fire, he immediately smothered the flames with a cookie sheet which contained the flames. Consumer was able to power off the unit.

12/3/11 Consumer contacted the manufacturer and was advised that they would not be able to repair the electric range because it was not under warranty.

Consumer feels that this range is a fire hazard and should be reported.

UPDATE: 1. The stove was on a mid-to-Iow setting yet heated to maximum temperature. 2. After turning off the stove knobs the burner remained on full-high. The fact that the burner should have been off was confirmed by both knob position’s and that burner’s indicator light. (All indicator lights were off except the “Hot Surface” indicator.) This behavior has been witnessed several times since the original incident. Sometimes we can turn it the burner off then on again to get it to turn off. Other times it won’t turn off and we’ve needed to turn it off at the circuit breaker. 3. This manufacturer has had numerous. similar models experiencing the same symptoms dating back several years which resulted in product recalls. Please review whether this model should have been omitted from those recalls.

On Dec. 31, 2011 I had the oven set at 400 degrees to bake a pie. I placed the pie on a cookie sheet and placed it in the oven. I set the timer for 50 minutes. After 26 minutes of baking time I checked the pie crust to make sure it was not browning too quickly. It was fine. Within 5 minutes after checking the pie smoke began pouring out of my oven and the entire top of the pie was black. I kept hitting the cancel button and the oven would not turn off. The smoke detectors were going off in the house. When I opened the oven door flames shot up from the pie. I poured salt over the pie. My husband turned off the breaker from the range. That was the only way we could get the oven turned off. The next day we turned the breaker for the range back on and the top element of the oven immediately came back on and would not turn off, again. We turned the breaker back off and it remains off.

Frigidaire Electric range with turn knob burners and digital oven controls. I now have had two Frigidaire electric ranges with turn knob smooth top controls and digital oven controls. Both units, right at the three year age have had the electronic control boards go out. Both caused risk of electrical fire and scorched the back of the appliance. Frigidaire is aware that they have issues with the board. It is the same model of board in both ranges. On the first unit, the control module was so back ordered from repeated issue that they could not replace the piece for over 90 days. Instead the replace it with another unit that had the same faulty control board. Frigidaire has issued a recall on this unit but NOT for the faulty control board, only for an issue they claim is unrelated that allows the burners to turn on by themselves. Clearly Frigidaire/Electrolux is selling a faulty product that is a danger to consumers. Frigidaire has been given the opportunity to make it right but has been allowed to continue to endanger customers and sell faulty product.

The product, in the report: Electric range 4 burners

I purchased the Frigidaire Range Mode1 LEEFM389FE, SIN VF8012431R, from the Lowe’s Store in Monroe, MI on 2/22/2008 (see attached receipt). The Range functioned with no remarkable incidents until the evening of 11/27/2011. At which time, the Range phantomlike, inexplicably and without warning, had all burners on the top of the Range heated to the highest heat they were capable ofa nd it was as if all burners were on the highest setting possible without human intervention. Just before this happened, I had pulled a tenderloin roast from the oven and it had been placed on the Range Top to tent with aluminum foil covering the roast. When the incident happened, there was no one in the kitchen and we were first made aware of the Range malfunction by the smell of smoke and charred meat. When I arrived, saw the smoke and the Range lit up, I swiped the pan with the roast on to my wooden butcher block next to the Range causing a moderate and very painful bum to my wrist and palm heel of my nand which I continue to treat at home. We attempted to eat the tenderloin roast and although parts of the loin were edible it was way overcooked and quite a bit was burnt beyond being edible and was disposed and a very expensive Sunday dinner for seven people was destroyed.

On the morning of 11/28, through internet research, I determined that the exact model Range was involved in a voluntary Safety Recall. I am highly upset that such a dangerous condition that burned my hand destroyed my dinner and almost burned my family out of the house was only a voluntary recall, leaving me with no notice whatsoever. I intend to petition the UCC to take a better look at this Safety Recall and the dangers involved particularly as these Ranges are aging and present a greater danger. Obviously, THESE RANGES SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED, BUT PROFIT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN SAFElY OR CUSTOMER SERVICE. When I attempted to get the Range repaired, the nightmare began. The Range, which was cheaply manufactured, had a paper tag with the serial number that had been wiped off and was not legible. Guess what..............you can’t get a repair on the stove without the serial number. The Customer Service Department was completely stymied with how to help and a huge snafu, catch 22 got started that is enough to drive anyone crazy and the more you insist to be helped, the more frustrated and rude the Customer Service Representative becomes.

After several hours of being bounced from one person to the next and apparently no one having the authority to offer a remedy, I decided to call you regarding liability. You were able to help generate a serial number and I was able to get the repairs scheduled. But, it was not until 12/5 that the repair technician came to perform the repair. During the repair, the technician determined that the knobs were fused to the stove and had to broken off. He spent many minutes on the line with Customer Service but no one would authorize the knobs to be replaced although, everyone agrees, that they were broken off because of the Range malfunction. The technician could not fix the knobs because Electrolux, Inc would not authorize the charge and my Range remains in a state of disrepair and is an eyesore in my kitchen. I seek to be made whole for my damages!

Please find attachments to show the purchase of the Range, photos of my injuries which do not seem to depict the severity of the burns accurately and I am still suffering from them. Also, please find the restaurant receipts for meals that were purchased because we could not cook. Please note that we ate a lot of cold cuts and we are only requesting reimbursement for a few meals.

My itemized damages are set forth below: Tenderloin Roast for 7 people; $ 60.00 Restaurant Meals; $ 86.51 Range Knobs, per Tech; $ 90.00 Burns, pain and suffering; $500.00 Total $736.51 Complaint# [REDACTED] Policy# [REDACTED] Model: LEEFM389FE Serial Number: VF8012431R Brand Frigidaire

The product, in the report: Frigidaire electric stove, FEF326ABD Black

I have 2 Frigidaire electric stove FEF326ABD. On several occasions I have tried to use the oven cleaner setting on both of them. Every time, the glass on the oven doors have shatters. So this is a feature that I can’t use at all, in fear that I will again for like the 5th time, replace the glass. Then there is the issue of the over and/or the broiler either not shutter off or turning on unless it is unplugged. This to me is the bigger issue. Both ovens are now at least 5 years old. This issue is something that comes and goes with both stoves and when I least expect it. I woke up the other day and the broiler was on. I didn’t turn it on but it was on. Luckily, I was getting up but also there was nothing in it, no fire had started and it wasn’t as hot. It may have just came on less then 20 minutes before I woke up. I have tried to contact the stores about the issues and they tell me to contact the manufacturers. The manufacturers either take months to get back to me or tell me there is nothing they can do. I’ve tried looking to see if there was a recall on parts or the ovens as a whole and there is nothing.

Our Frigidaire Professional slide-in electric range (model PLES399EC) caught fire during the night on Dec 14, 2011. The unit was not in use and had not been used for several days. Property damage was minimal, only due to the fact that our smoke detector worked, waking us up quickly, and that we had a fire extinguisher close by and our fire department responded quickly. Apparently this unit was the subject of a recall notice in August 2009 but we were unaware of this.

Turned oven on to 350 degrees to cook some potatoes and went downstairs to watch tv, about a half hour later my smoke detectors upstairs started going off. I came up to find the Frigidaire electric stove flashing “F1” and the oven coils were bright red and it was like 500 degrees. I tried to turn the oven off and it wouldn’t turn off. Finally I just unplugged it. I waited a while and then plugged it back in, and the coils began to turn bright red again without even touching anything. I unplugged it again and tried re-setting the breakers and then plugged it in again to have it do the same thing, oven coils turning bright red without even turning it on. I “googled” this incident to find other Frigidaire ovens recalled with this problem, but my model number was not one of them. Had I not been home at the time, I am sure some sort of electrical fire would have started.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Elec Smooth cooktop

This stove was purchased and installed in 2007 in our weekend lake house and has not been used very often in the past several years. However, we have recently moved to the lake house and started using it daily. This is when we encountered this issue.

My stove will not turn off. The other day, after I was done cooking, I turned the stove off and went to my room. When I returned to the kitchen, the stove was on (on high) and was extremely hot. This happened again when my husband was cooking and he turned on the stove, but left the pot on the burner. The food began to burn, and again the stove was on the off position, but it was on high and extremely hot. This is a very frightening experience. I then went into the internet to see if there had been other similar situations and found that there had been a recall on Frigidaire stoves for this same reason. I called the number provided and I was told that since my stove was not on the recall list there was nothing they could do. I COULDN’T BELIEVE WHAT I WAS TOLD. FRIGIDAIRE HAS NO CONCERN FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY ON A PRODUCT THAT HAS BEEN PROVEN TO START A FIRE. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. This is a very serious situation and I am very concerned that Frigidaire is washing their hands of this very serious issue that could have very serious consequences. Please advise me on what I can do to have my stove replaced as I am not comfortable have a Frigidaire stove in my home.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Electric Range Glass top Black and stainless steel color. Knobs on the back panel of the stove. 2 Extend large eyes and 2 small eyes. and a warm zoon.

I purchased a Frigidaire Electric Range in 8/11/2002 Model # PLEF398AC due to oven over heating they replace the Electric Range 2 additional times 2nd time 5/18/2003 Model # PLEF398AC, and Serial # VF22622197, and the 3rd time was 11/19/2003 Model# PLEF398CCC and Serial # VF 4305948. Each was a Frigidaire electric range stove. Due to the problem of Over heating in the stove which cause the over to crack the inside surface and the eyes on top of the stove comes on when the knobs was turned off. Me and my husband both works 2 jobs and one evening I came home and notice the 2 of the large burns was on and the knobs was off I had to unplug the entire stove and call for conns to come out and replace it. The second stove did the same thing but it burn the outer part of my mircowave due to the over heating so we had to replace it, so just recently with the last stove they told us it’s not the stove its my electric plugs for us to have the same problems constantly so I was cleaning my kitchen and was standing right infront of the stove when the Glass from the stove dooe had shattered every where while it was in Self Cleaning mode on the Outside due to the tempture of the stove over heating. We had to replace several pots and baking cookware because of the unexpected situation. Also in January 15, 2011 didn’t realize that the stove was on burning because it would burn and shut down where the burning was not showing red for hot was own and when the glass from the door shattered I stepped on several piece of Glass and try to balace myself by holding on to the surface of the stove and burned the palm of my hand real good. Since then as of May I purchased another stove no problems with electric but I gave it to my sister and she is having the same problem with the stove so 12/13/2011 when I seen this alert on the computer about the recall I warned her about the problem.
