The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

Made May 8, 2015, sent to the company Jun 10, 2015, published by CPSC Jun 24, 2015

The product, in the report: Electric Range

Consumer stated that the range failed to turn on she called for service, (5/7) service rep came out and advised her that the wiring had melted inside the module which he had seen in the recalled ranges for the company.

Advised consumer of recalled 09-333 and the hazard. Consumer stated that she had not experienced, the surface heating elements can: 1) turn on spontaneously without being switched on; 2) fail to turn off after being switched off; or, 3) heat to different temperatures than selected.

(5/7) The manufacturer was contacted and she was informed to contact the retailer.

Consumer feels that the range should be recalled due the melting of the electrical wiring.

    The consumer added:

    FRIGIDAIRE STOVE;MODEL NUMBER FFES3005LBA SERIAL NUMBER NF04921026

Enclosed is a picture of a stove that was bought August 2011from Lafferty’s store in Texarkana, Texas...She turned on the stove to cook biscuits...She put the biscuits in a pan to put them in the oven...She opened the oven door, but the oven was cold even though the control said it was working. The service tech said THE CONTROL says it is working, but the burners and the oven are not working..The service tech said the wiring inside the Molex plug was burned...He said the stove is not safe to use...The consumer noted she is a senior citizen on a fixed income and bought this product in good faith from a rebuttable appliance store...This stove was installed by Lafferty, and she bought FRIGIDAIRE,a well known brand, so she WOULD HAVE YEARS OF CONTINUOUS SERVICE (surely a stove should last more than three years)...She needs to know the next steps CPSC and Lafferty plan to take to resolve this problem which will lead to her, the customer’s satisfaction.

The consumer also added she is thankful her home and their lives were not destroyed as a result of faulty wiring from this product...She has tried to resolve this problem with [REDACTED] for almost two weeks...She has no stove to cook their meals and no one seems to be concerned about that issue but her.

The product, in the report: Electric Range/Oven Glass Door Have you contacted the manufacturer?: The glass oven door should have never just exploded! The caller contacted the manufacturer and they said warranty only 1 year. Very unhelpful, didn’t care. Wanted to sell caller a warranty. What a joke.

Caller stated that while oven was on for approximately 10 mins and the oven outer glass door exploded. The glass pieces shattered all over the kitchen floor. The manufacturer was not contacted as yet. There were no prior incident or service calls associated to this unit.

Caller feels that this oven door is a safety hazard and should be reported.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Professional Series electric smoothtop range.

Frigidaire Professional Series smoothtop electric range, the left rear cooktop burner turned on spontaneously, could not be turned off. After unsuccessful attempts, I pulled the unit away from the wall and unplugged it to turn it off. Frigidaire model number PLEFMZ99GCG, serial number [REDACTED]. Burner turned on to 3.5 on the digital temperature readout. Temperature would adjust higher or lower, erratically, but would not turn off. No other part of the unit was turned on at the time of the incident. The oven and a different burner had previously been used earlier that morning.

Following the incident, I did a Google search and learned of the August 2009 recall. Spoke with Frigidaire representative on 4/21/2015, she informed me this unit was built in September 2009 and was not subject to the recall. She informed me Frigidaire has no liability for the unit because it is not part of the recall.

The product, in the report: Drop-in Frigidaire Electric Range.

The glass front assembly panel on our Frigidaire electric oven exploded. The model number is GLED388ASD. It was purchased from Sears approximately 12 years ago.

The stove has rarely been used; it was in perfect condition. The oven was not on when it exploded. The assembly panel is a double pane of decorative glass that covers the entire oven door. It’s installed in front of a second interior glass panel set into a metal frame (that did not break).

A stainless steel pan from an adjacent counter was accidentally knocked off and must have hit the oven door. The glass front did not simply break but exploded outward with literally hundreds of shards reaching up to as far as 4 to 5 feet from the stove. About a quarter of the panel remained in the setting, albeit broken into minute pieces and crackling.

Obviously, a young child who picked up a pan or other toy and struck that stove front could easily have been blinded or worse.

I was completely dumbfounded that could have happened … no idea. Unfortunately I did not take a photo.

There were no injuries. I was the only adult in the kitchen and was standing at the sink facing away from the stove.

The product, in the report: Electric Cooktop Range

Consumer stated that she experienced similar problems of recall#09-333 with her range. Hazard: Depending on the model, the surface heating elements can: 1) turn on spontaneously without being switched on; 2) fail to turn off after being switched off; or, 3) heat to different temperatures than selected. This poses a fire and burn hazard to consumers.

Consumer stated that after using the right front burner she powered it off but a few minutes later she noticed that the burner had come on by itself. She was unable to power it off and the range stayed on until 4:30am 4/9 because it is connected to the breaker in the house and they had to wait until an electrician could arrive. The range is connected to the breaker box outside the house which did not allow them to be able to power it off.

4/9 Consumer contacted the manufacturer and she was advised that her serial number was not included in the recall and a technician would be sent out at her expense. She is concerned that this range could have caused a house fire and should have been recalled.

Woke up Sunday morning to see my oven door was shattered and glass was blown 7 feet from the oven door. It is only my husband and myself. There was no damage to the door before we found the glass blown out of the door. I am very concerned that the glass shattered 7 feet from the oven door, what would have happened if someone was standing next to the door or opening it.

The product, in the report: Electric Oven

I have a Fridgidare ElectricRange ES200/300 bought 2002. Tonight my wife was cooking and could not turn off the oven. Neither could I. We could also not get the door open. Finally I turned off the circuit breaker. We still could not get the door open.

We called Fridgiaire. I told them their oven had a life threatening defect. My wife doesn’t know how to turn off the circuit breakers. Its a good thing I was home as I was afraid the house would burn down. Their customer service rep said “Its not a defect because she could not find a product recall on it”. I told her the web was full of problems people had shutting off their ovens. She offered to help me find a service repairman in my area that I could pay to fix the oven. She didn’t seem to care that I was more worried about the house burning down than fixing the oven.

Since, I’ve learned this is a common problem with Fridgidaire electric ovens. Google: “fridgidaire oven won’t turn off” and you’ll see 5 to 10 hits on the first page about Fridgidaire ovens not turning off.

This company should not be in business. Your poorly designed web page seemed not to allow me to “register”. [REDACTED]

Frigidaire Electric Range Model #LGEF3045KFH serial# VF24351654. The range was purchased from Lowes on 11/20/2012. Within the first 7 months of use the automatic door locking mechanism wouldn’t unlock after a self cleaning cycle. We call Frigidaire customer service department and were informed that this happens and all we need to do is turn off the breaker, wait 5 minutes, and then turn it back on. This worked and the door unlocked, but this needs to be done every time you use self clean function. 6 months later after turning off the oven, there was very loud pop from behind the stove. A flame, smoke and sparks jumped up the back of the stove. Luckily I was standing directly in front of the stove when this happened. I pulled the unit away from the way and grabbed a fire extinguisher. I immediately called Frigidaire customer service again. I was told it was the circuit board shorting out and I could purchase a replacement part. On 9/20/2014 while pre-heating the oven, the front panel display an f10 error with loud beeping. The oven could not be turned off while the f10 error was flashing. none of the buttons were responding, so the unit was turned off at the breaker. Frigidaire customer service was contacted for the 3rd time. This time we were informed that it was thermostat and that it should re-set after a 5-10 waiting period before turning back on. I explained that the oven/stove had become so hot that the countertops and floor surrounding the stove were extremely hot to the touch and one of our teenagers been using the oven at the time, there was a strong possibility a fire would have occurred because they don’t know about a breaker box. We were informed that we could buy a replacement part but the reset should work. Finally on 2/28/2015 the f10 error occurred again, this time filling our home with massive amounts of smoke. We need to evacuate the first floor of our home and place fans inside to remove the overwhelming amount of smoke that filled our house. We will no longer use our stove because of the fire risk. Frigidaire said they can’t do anything for us.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire smooth top electric stove model # FEFL79DBL

I own a Frigidaire smooth top electric stove model fefl79dbl. The front left electric coil temperature fluctuates. We will be cooking with that burner set on level 4, for example, a low to mid setting. Walking away from the stove, we will suddenly hear or smell the food in the pan and realize the burner has gone to “high” on its own and will not stop. We cannot simply reduce the switch because it has no effect on the burner. We will turn the switch completely off and sometimes it still will not turn off. After repeated clicking the switch into and out of the on/off position, the burner will finally turn off.

Caller is reporting his smooth-top range with front right burner that just turns on and begins escalating temperature to a glowing red.

Callers moved into home 2009 range was in kitchen but presented no problems at that time.

Around 2012 the callers noticed that the right front burner was becoming difficult to turn off.

In January 2015 the caller and his wife noticed that the same burner was turning on by itself and on March 4th, 2015 the caller’s wife was cooking, laid a pan on the right front burner with dough in it because the burner was not in use.

She noticed that the dough was rising when it should not have been rising then noticed that the burner had lit by itself again.

The caller and his wife finally turned the burner off but it took a while to turn it off by spinning the knob until it turned off.

This incident is being reported asking that the public be alerted and the product inspected then recalled due to the potential for fire and destruction of human and property damage.

There are no injuries to report

The caller contacted the manufacturer who wanted to sell him a warranty with set repair tech charges.

11/25/2013 (Approximate) - The consumer was done cooking dinner and noticed that after she had turned off the range, the back and left burner was still on approximately fifteen minutes later. Because the knob to the burner was in the OFF position, the consumer believed that the knob was not properly set so she proceeded to remove the knob with some pliers. The consumer confirmed that the setting was correct. After the consumer removed the knob, there was smoke coming out from where it was located. The smoke ceased approximately three to four minutes later. The consumer put the knob back on.

When the consumer went to turn the burner back on the next day, the consumer indicates that the burner never heated. Because her unit was out of warranty, the consumer did not contact the retailer (whom is now out of business) nor manufacturer.

The consumer indicates that she now uses her range on a daily basis, though initally this was not the case. The consumer states that to date, her range has never been serviced by a Technician. She states that her other three burners are working properly but not the left and back burner.

The consumer has no injuries to report. The consumer believes this product poses a safety hazard. The consumer plans on contacting the manufacturer.

We purchased a Frigidaire Gallery 30in smooth surface 5 element Convection range in the spring of 2010. Made in Canada - Electrolux? Model FGES3065KFA Serial # NF00521445 The radiant element began overheating over the past two weeks. I was unable to shut it off at the knob site a couple of weeks ago and after a few attempts it finally shut down. Within a couple of days my spouse alerted me that the same radiant element was on (turned on by itself) . He inquired if I had turned it on by mistake. I had not. He turned the knob around and around and shut it down. This past Saturday while cooking on the same element we noticed it was getting hotter and hotter. We tried to shut it down and after several attempts had to shut off the range through the fuse box. The next morning we turned the fuse switch back on for the range and the radiant element immediately came on very hot and we still could not shut it down through the the knob. It is the left front burner part # 316465001. It was alarming enough to think this a fire hazard. Especially when it turned on by itself. We are attempting to get this fixed. We are having difficulty finding correct parts.

Consumer stated that she has been experiencing similar problems of Recall#09-333. Hazard: Depending on the model, the surface heating elements can: 1) turn on spontaneously without being switched on; 2) fail to turn off after being switched off; or, 3) heat to different temperatures than selected. This poses a fire and burn hazard to consumers.

(2013) She stated that there was smoke emitting from the front panel of the oven, while it was at 325 degree temperature. She contacted the manufacturer and they offered discount in replacing the control panel. However, this did not resolve the issue, the incident re-occur while she was using oven at convection roast 325 degrees. (1/7/15) She contacted the manufacturer and while she was placed on hold the call disconnected, however, no one has attempted to contact her. The oven remains inoperable at this time.

Consumer feels that although her serial number is not part of a recall this unit should be recalled because of the fire hazard it poses.

I have a Frigidaire Smooth Top Slide-in Range, Model# FGES3065KFB, Mfgd Mar 2010 that we purchased from Lowe’s in May of 2010. There was a recall for this same type of range (http://www.recallowl.com/Consumer+Recalls/Household+Products/Frigidaire+and+Electrolux+ICON+Electric+Smoothtop+Cooktops+and+Slide-In+Ranges+Recalled+Due+to+Fire+Hazard). My model number is not included in the recall but the design is almost identical and my range is exhibiting the same behaviors as mentioned in the recall. I contacted Frigidaire and was politely informed that my range wasn’t recalled and that the warranty period had expired so I should contact a qualified service center for repairs. Sadly, the repair estimate amount to almost half the amount we purchased the range for.

Indications I’ve seen over the past six months, elements heating with controls off. Burner temp was around 160 degrees based on my temp gun. And each time there was no hot element warning on the display. The left front also displays intermittent incorrect temps.

01/31/2015 The consumer was sitting in her den when all of a sudden she heard a loud explosion. When she entered her kitchen, there was glass all over the floor as her oven’s door had exploded. There was some glass in her dining room as well. The consumer indicates that she was not using her range’s stovetop nor oven. The consumer cleaned up all the glass and took some pictures of the damage.

The consumer states that there were no further damages outside the range.

02/02/2015 The consumer contacted the brand firm and explained what had happened to a representative. The representative informed the consumer that because the range was purchased in 2008, they would only be able to provide shipping costs should she decide to purchase an oven door.

The consumer contacted Appliance Service for a Service Technician because she was afraid to use her unit until she knew what was going on. When the Service Technician inspected her unit, he informed the consumer that her range had no problems whatsoever. When the consumer asked him about the oven door, he informed her that he will check if he can just install a tempered glass as opposed to installing the oven door completely. The Service Technician informed the consumer that he had heard of these cases many times and that he was not surprised that it happened to her. The consumer is waiting to see what the Service Technician tells her as far as what her options are.

The consumer indicates that some time last year, she smelled burnt wire coming from her unit. The Service Technician she contacted informed her that the person who installed the range did not properly tighten the screws and that this was the reason why the wires burnt a little. Other than this, the consumer had no incidents to report to date. She indicates that she uses her unit at least once, maybe twice on a daily basis.

The consumer has no injuries to report. The consumer believes this product poses a safety hazard. The consumer plans on contacting the manufacturer: Electrolux.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire 30-inch radiant-electric smoothtop cooktop

My three year old Frigidaire Professional electric cook top suddenly turned on with no user input. One of the burners came on spontaneously, even though all knobs were in the Off position. The digital readout for the burner was erratic, and the burner knob would not control the burner; i.e. the burner went to Hi, even when the knob was turned to Lo, and the knob would not turn off the burner. I had to trip the circuit breaker to turn the cook top off. The next day, I turned the breaker back on, and after about 2 hours, the same thing happened again. I had to turn the breaker off to turn the burner off.

I reported this to Frigidaire, but the customer service rep had no knowledge of similar occurrences. Since the product is out of warranty and there is no current recall, Frigidaire accepts no responsibility.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire electric Range

I was pre-heating my oven when I noticed my oven was on fire. The heat element was on fire and disintegrating. There were flames in the oven and I couldn’t get them to stop until I went into my basement and powered down all the electricity to my house. I called the customer service number and they took a report and asked me to email pictures of the fire- which I did. They promised a call back within 2 business days. When the call came in the department said that because there wasn’t further damage to anything other than my oven they needed to refer me back to customer service. I contacted customer service and the customer service wasn’t able to offer assistance. I asked to speak with a supervisor. I spoke with [REDACTED] and she said the stove wasn’t under warranty and they couldn’t help. I reiterated my concern that Frigidaire is aware that there is an issue with the heating element and it did cause a fire so I wanted it rectified. She said if I paid for a repairman with my own expense and if they declared that the stove (mind you it is burnt to a crisp) is fixable then they would consider giving me a 20% on replacement parts. I expressed my dissatisfaction and I am pursuing a formal complaint. the stove is unsafe and would have caused a house fire if I was not in the Kitchen when the flames erupted and I took immediate action.

The product, in the report: Electric Range

The consumer stated that she purchased the range in April 2014 and had it delivered in May 2014.

The consumer stated that there is no problem with the stove top.

The consumer stated that there is a plastic-burning, chemical smell when she uses the oven. The consumer stated that sometimes it smells like something is burning.

The consumer believes that the heating element could be burning a wire.

The consumer stated that she initially contacted the retailer within the 90 day warranty period with this issue. They informed her to continue using the product and the smell will go away. The consumer called Lowe’s for 3 months letting them know that the smell is not going away. The consumer was informed to contact the warranty center. The consumer contacted them in August 2014. A technician was sent out to inspect the unit. The technician stated that everything seems to be functioning correctly, he was not sure what was causing the smell; he did notice the smell as well.

The consumer was informed that maybe the plastic from instruction got caught in the oven. The technician instructed the consumer to check the drawer to see if there was anything stuck there. The consumer checked that and noticed that the smell was still present.

The consumer was informed by Lowe’s that she could not return the range since it was past the 90 return period. The consumer stated that if she would have known earlier, she would have returned the range rather than waiting for the smell to disappear.

The consumer stated that the smell gets into the meal that is being cooked in the oven. The consumer stated that the smell gets into her hair, clothes, house, etc.

The consumer stopped using the range until January. The consumer used it on 1/18/15. The consumer stated that the smell caused her eyes, throat and skin to burn. She had to throw out the meal since the smell got into it.

The consumer stated that when she used the oven on 01/18/15, she saw faint gray/white smoke coming from the back of the unit. The consumer stated that the smoke dissipated quickly so she continued to use the unit.

The consumer stated that the smell is only present when the oven is heated.

The consumer called Lowe’s again on 1/19/15. They informed her to get the R number from the manf and they will take the unit back.

The consumer spoke to customer service with manf on 1/19/14. They refused to give the R number. The consumer was informed that they can send out a technician. The asked to speak to a supervisor and was transferred to [REDACTED](at Electrolux).

Ms. [REDACTED] informed the consumer that she will not swap the unit just for an issue with smell. The consumer asked for a refund. The consumer was informed that she cannot get a refund. Ms. [REDACTED] asked for proof of purchase because the unit was manufactured in 2012 and it would be unusual for it to be at the store in 2014. The consumer was informed by Lowe’s when she purchased the unit that this was a Fall model that they were clearing out in the Spring. The consumer stated that she would not have purchased the unit had she known it was manufactured in 2012.

The consumer stated a technician is supposed to be coming out from the manf on 1/21/15 for inspection.

    1/21/2015

[REDACTED] from AAA Appliance came to look at the stove today. He took off the bottom panel of the oven to expose the heating element and what he called the “bake element base” under the heating element. The bottom panel of the oven had a white residue on the underside of it that looks like white mold. The bake element base had some sort of film all over it. Parts of it looked like rust spots and some of it looked like a white powdery film. [REDACTED] from AAA called [REDACTED] from Frigidaire. [REDACTED] said that [REDACTED] advised him that there has been residue on the bake element base in the past. [REDACTED] advised that he did not know what the residue consisted of. He advised me that Frigidaire would send a new bake element base and a new bottom panel to be installed in about a week. [REDACTED] also asked me to run two more self cleanings on the oven -- with the residue in it -- which I will not do as it burns my eyes, nose, skin, and throat.

My wife was using the Frigidaire smooth top oven model FEFL79DBL and she heard a loud pop, followed by white smoke and burnt smell. I have checked the back side of the oven and observed that several parts were burnt. This product is very dangerous and can cause serious harm to household users. I have checked that website to see if the product is being recalled however this model is not listed to the recalled products. I have taken several pictures for evidence.

The heating element at the back of the stove becomes extremely hot when the oven is on. I was unaware that the element was hot due to heat that escapes from the oven through a hole that was designed in the stove and the heat causes the element to heat up enough to where it can boil water. This occurred without the element being on as I was using the oven.

I purchased a Frigidaire electric glass cook top (model # FEC30S6AB) in 2008, and installed the cook top in my kitchen in 2013. I woke up on a Saturday morning a week or so ago and one of the cook top burners was turned on on high heat. The cook top would not turn off and I had to cut the electricity from the breaker panel. My microwave above was extremely hot, and the fan on the microwave had turned on. Yesterday, 1/8/15, I was cooking on medium heat, before I knew it, the heat had increased to high heat and would not turn off. I again cut the electric from the panel and called Frigidaire and reported my concern. They checked for recalls, and finding none, suggested I call a repairman. I found this suggestion to be unsatisfactory given the safety risk and ended the call.

On a regular basis, the front left element on the stove stays on at the highest heat level continuously and will not turn off or turn down. This has happened at least 20 times since we bought the stove in 2007. It takes several minutes of turning the burner on and off to get it to stop. It’s quite frightening since the burner seems to get even hotter than a normal high setting.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Electric Range Model No. PLEF398CCB Serial No. VF32122045

This incident concerns a Frigidaire Electric Range, Model No. PLEF398CCB, Serial No. VF32122045.

My wife was baking rolls when she noticed the top internal bake/broil element was on fire and it was throwing off sparks like a sparkler. I turned the oven off at the display/controller, but the element continued to burn and throw sparks. I had to turn the power off at the breaker box on the outside of my home in order to stop the element form burning and sparking. This is a serious fire/safety hazard, as power/current was still going to the bake/broil element even though it was tuned off at the appliance display/controller. I see where there was a recall about 2009 for a similar issue of the surface heating elements with this same appliance, but I see no mention of the internal bake/broil elements, but they are obviously related. I also see that report number 20120124-61138-2147471011 on this CPSC site details the same problem I have, and it appears the person who submitted the report states that Frigidaire says they have not heard of this problem. It also appears the person who submitted the report found many similar issues online that substantiate his issue as being a problem, and I found the same in my online research. Why are the internal bake/broil elements not mentioned in the original recall? It makes sense to me that the same controller/control board that is causing surface elements to turn on to full power and not being able to turn off without cutting power at the breaker box is also very likely responsible for the same issue with the internal bake/broil elements that I am experiencing. I would like for someone from CPSC to give me a call to discuss. I also plan to call the manufacturer tomorrow, as today is New Year’s Day. I would like for someone from Frigidaire with technical knowledge of this issue to call me as well. In reading the report 20120124-61138-2147471011, it appears a recall was fixed on that person’s oven previously, so that tells me it was not effective in correcting the internal bake/broil elements. So, what is the fix for my issue? Did the original recall actually address all element control issues with this appliance? This is a serious fire and safety hazard because large amounts of current are being allowed to be sent to the heating elements even though the appliance has been turned off.

The product, in the report: Electric Oven

On Christmas Day, the outer glass on our Frigidaire oven door exploded just a split second after my daughter had walked past the oven with her eight month old baby in her arms. If the glass had shattered a bit earlier, she and the baby could have been showered with sharp chards of glass and maybe seriously injured. In cleaning up, I found glass chards as far as fifteen feet in front of and to the sides of the oven.

The oven had been used in the morning by my wife to bake a cake. Afterwards, our son-in-law had cooked a standing rib roast in the oven and had removed it about fifteen minutes before the door glass exploded. The oven had been turned off for some time before he removed the roast from the oven. At the time of the explosion, the oven was still warm The event caught all of us by surprise. Fortunately none of the chards got into our food, though we did find some slivers of glass on the kitchen counter opposite the oven where our son-in-law was transferring food from the roasting pan into serving dishes.

I had cleaned the oven several days earlier using the normal three hour clean cycle. At the time, I sensed nothing at all of a potential problem with the oven. To our knowledge, the glass door had never been subjected to any physical abuse whatsoever.

I suspect there is a serious design flaw or quality control flaw in the manufacturing of the oven door glass. I am keeping the pieces of glass, and will make them available to your laboratory for testing and analysis. I want to let you know that I want to work with you to improve your product safety.

On 05/25/2014 in Merrimack NH, our stove began arcing due to a malfunction of the stove. Due to the arcing, my kitchen was effectively totaled, damaging the surrounding walls, counter and cabinets, all needing to be replaced. The Merrimack NH Fire Department put in their Fire Report that he ignition of the fire was caused due to the stove’s “Electrical Arcing”. I am just happy that my kids were not touching it at the time. After the fire I contacted Electrolux, Frigidaire’s parent company and the representative could not care less. The rep mentioned that the their had been a recall for stoves with electrical issues (over 200,000 stoves to be exact) but as my model was not part off it there was nothing they were responsible for and the rep proceeded to try to quickly end the call. Further frustrating was on the companies on website it states.. “The following model and serial numbers are included in the recall: Frigidaire (Serial Number Range VF122xxxxx - VF831xxxxx)” My Stoves Serial number is ... VF72842834. That is clearly within the effected stoves. The Electrux / Frigidaire rep said, my stoves model number wasn’t one that they were mandated to recall. So because the government hasn’t come down on them to recall all model lines that were affected by the electronic defects yet, they did not want to talk to me. You would have thought they would at least be concerned about their products being potentially unsafe and causing harm to customers such as my family but no, even though it was within the serial numbers listed and even more important, even though the fire department itself listed the stove’s arcing issue as the cause of the fire, Frigidaire did not care.

Smooth top cook stove, frigedair, model GLEF379DSA. Purchased with side by side fridge. Had to have fridge repaired 4 times. After last failure, replaced it,threw it out. Smooth top cook stove, dials never balanced with temps. Put it on simmer, burner stayed on high no matter what the dial setting was. Had food cooking, put on simmer. Daughter turned to talk to her son when the top exploded. It continued to pop and crack even after unplugging it. Looked up problems on this stove to learn of similar complaints. Saw that the gallery series does have recalls and even the side by side had problems that led problems in lawsuits. The ice maker kept going out on it and the fridge kept freezing everything. The ice maker had to be replaced 4 times. Purchased both appliances for our new home for 2200.00. My daughter and grandson was not injured due to not standing over the stove when it exploded. They were lucky. I was told by repairman that this is a fire hazard and all these models should have been recalled since they all have the same problems and are dangerous products. I contacted electrolux and that was fruitless. I would at least want my money back on this stove since they have never paid me for the side by side fridge.

The product, in the report: Frigidare free standing/slide in range, with black smooth cooktop, digital control panel and a convection oven. Stainless steel.

This is a free-standing/slide in digital smooth top range we purchased 4 years ago from Best Buy for our new house. This will be the SECOND time we will have to replace the digital control panel for the same reason. Over time (sadly a mere year) the buttons stop working, first by letting you turn ON a burner, but then not letting you turn it off (although, my son did find that if you turn ON the rear left burner you can then turn OFF (or as I’ll mention in a moment ON) burners & oven). It’s pretty much gone in the same order both times. 1st-Front left burner (the quick boil one) goes, first allowing you to turn it ON but not OFF unless you flip the breaker or my sons trick. 2nd-can’t turn front left burner ON unless using my sons trick 3rd-front right burner SOMETIMES needs sons trick to turn ON and/or OFF. 4th- can’t turn oven OFF without sons trick 5th-bake function on oven stops working completely

Also over time the whole turning on the left rear burner trick itself has to change, at first we could just power ON the burner not selecting a heat and be able to turn ON or OFF needed spot, but the. Needed to have a heat selected before it would work and then about a month later we would have to pick a different heat level than we had been (i.e. Low vs high) b/c the other would no longer do the ‘trick’. And the not help at all and require the flip of the breaker.

I can not understand how this is not deemed unsafe by frigidare, and worry what else is going to happen. As well as being extremely unhappy at having to pay out over $300 (first time was under warranty) for repairs on such a new stove!! Especially if I will have to do so every 2 years!!!! I fear for others safety as well

In 2013 the consumer received a notice from the firm notifying him of the recall (release # 11-016). The consumer contacted the firm and shortly after received the repair kit. The consumer installed the repair kit using the instructions provided by the firm.

A day or 2 before the consumer received the notice the consumer had an incident. The consumer was getting ready to leave his home when he noticed the front right burner was “on” (very red and hot) but the burner knob was on the “off” position. The consumer had to cut the circuit breaker to shut off the unit.

On 11/25/14 the consumer noticed the right front burner spontaneously was “on” (very red and hot) but the burner knob was on the “off” position. The consumer states that the the LED cover next to the burner knob popped off. The consumer cut the circuit breaker off.

The consumer states the last time the unit was used was the day before.

On 11/26/14 the consumer contacted the firm’s recall hot line (888-360-8556) and informed the firm of the incident. The firm’s representative advised the consumer that the unit was no longer on recall but the call was disconnected while the consumer was on hold. The consumer called back and spoke to a different representative who advised him that since the unit was recalled it will always be on recall. The firm’s representative arranged for the consumer to receive the original repair kit, a new control for each burner and new LED light covers for each burner knob. The consumer received the parts the next day. The consumer was contacted by D3S Service who would be installing the parts.

A technician from D3S Service was sent to the consumer’s home on 12/08/14 to conduct the repairs. However, the technician advised the consumer that he was not qualified and did not want to continue with the repairs. The technician advised the consumer that his boss would conduct the repairs and arrange it for another day.

On 12/11/14 [REDACTED], a technician from D3S Service came to conduct the repairs on the unit. The consumer states while [REDACTED] was repairing the unit he broke the glass top. [REDACTED] advised the consumer that he would arrange for the order of another glass top.

On 12/12/14 [REDACTED] (832-804-8980) a employee from D3S Service, contacted the consumer and advised him that the firm would not cover the costs for a new glass top. The consumer contacted the firm’s recall hotline and inquired about a new glass top. The firm advised the consumer that the glass top breaking was due to an installation issue and the firm would not cover any costs for replacing the glass top.

The consumer states he has spoke with [REDACTED] from D3S Service and [REDACTED] offered to pay for 50% of the cost if the consumer is willingly to pay the other 50%.

The consumer does not want the unit repaired and would rather have it replaced. He is upset with the manner the firm is handling this situation.

On 12/01/14 the consumer used the front right burner and after a few minutes the burner spontaneously got very red and hot. The consumer tried to turn the unit off but it would not shut off and the consumer had to cut the circuit breaker. This occurred again on 12/05/14. The consumer states this issue does not happened daily but it occurs frequently. The consumer normally uses a low-med heat level.

The consumer states that she has not had any issues at this point with any other burner, because she doesn’t use the other burners.

When the consumer used the oven she reports that it spontaneously got very hot and would not shut off. The consumer also added that when preheating oven it would never get to specified temperature, and after approximately one hour oven would then get extremely hot. Consumer noted she would have to shut oven off.

On 12/8/14 the consumer contacted the firm and advised them of her concerns. The firm advised the consumer that the unit is not recalled and any repairs would be at the consumer’s cost.

The consumer uses the burners approximately 3 times a week. The consumer uses the oven about once a month.

The consumer feel the unit poses a fire hazard and does not feel safe using the unit.

The consumer moved in to her home 3 months ago and the unit was already in the home.

FRIGIDAIRE LGEF3043KFH stove caught on fire while using the warmer burner and oven. The fire came from the main clock assay and melted the circuit board and part of the harness unit. The fire was extinguished by the user and stove had to be disconnected from the wall outlet because the warmer burner would not shut off on its own. Part of the wall behind the unit was damaged as well. I called the company and they said the stove was purchased two years ago and does not have the manufacturers warranty at this time. The appliance maintenance person came in and said the issue was in the faulty circuit board and there was nothing that we did to precipitate this event. He will change the circuit board, harness, and the clock assay and apparently this will fix the problem. I don’t know if I trust this company anymore since there have been many issues with fires coming from their circuit boards year after year. Lowes will not refund the money since the cost of the unit is higher than the price to fix it.

Caller stated that the electric range burners spontaneously comes on by itself. The unit was powered off but hours later the same incident occurred. This has been ongoing since 2009 until now. There was a service call in 2009 and she was advised that the unit was recalled and a technician sent out and the range was repaired with a repair kit.

Approximately 2 years later the problem started to re-occur, and the manufacturer was contacted and a technician sent out (3/2011) , the range was repaired again with another kit.

2/2013 She noticed that the range was displaying the same failure (burners turning on by itself), the most current was 12/2/14 and when this occurs the circuit breaker is used to switch it off. Submitter noted another kit was sent out and was installed by a technician and paid by manufacturer.

12/2/14 The manufacturer was contacted and was informed that another repair would be done, however, she does not feel that this is resolving her problem and could cause a house fire.

Submitter also noted they have now been without a stove for a week 12/8/14

Submitter noted she purchased product in August 2008 and it was recalled in September 2009. She feels the product should never have been offered for sale and it is a hazardous product.

I am a fire investigator. On Wednesday, November 26th shortly before 3pm, fire crews were dispatched to a possible structure fire. Upon their arrival, they found the house smokey. The occupant stated that her oven was on and would not shut off. It appeared that the oven was just getting hotter and hotter. Prior to this event, she stated that the bottom element in the oven had stopped working and she had replaced it. This did not correct the problem. She stated that she was still able to somewhat use the oven (I guess that she used the broiler element). This date, the baking element started working and she was not able to get it to turn off. I checked for previous recalls and was not able to find any. The model number is GLEF369DCD; serial number is VF52041830.

The consumer reported melting on the back of the range.

The consumer stated that his rear-left element had randomly self started two times previously. The consumer would have to cut the circuit breaker to the range to turn off the range.

The consumer stated that he called the manf on 11/22/14. The consumer also e-mailed the manf regarding the incident on 11/24/14.

The consumer had a technician come out inspect the range. They informed him that timer clock EOC had malfunctioned and started the fire.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire glass top electric range

On the morning of November 20, 2014, an unsafe incident occurred while using my Frigidaire glass top cooking surface. I was cooking on the front right burner on a setting of 3. I placed a lid from this pan on the left front burner. This burner was not on and had not been on at any time on this day. 3 minutes later, a loud bang was heard and glass shards and pieces of glass came out from under the lid. In retrospect, I realize that the hot lid on the cold surface formed condensation which created a seal. Pressure then increased inside the lid to a point sufficient to cause the explosion. When I contacted Frigidaire, they said I should have known not to place a lid on the stove surface even though the surface was cold. Nearly every coworker and friend I mentioned this to, stated they routinely set hot lids aside on unused burners to stir or tend to their cooking food. Obviously, this is a common occurrence. I read my Use and Care guide cover to cover, and there was no mention of this phenomenon, nor was there a warning against placing a heated lid on a cold surface. This incident could have caused injury or death. I feel the Use and Care guide should be updated to warn consumers of this possibility.

On my range the large front left burner & the small rear left burner can not be turned off once they’ve reached their full temperature. The only way to turn them off is to flip the breaker off & wait until the temperature has lowered before turning the power back on to it. Since my children moved away I just don’t use those burners, I don’t fix large enough meals anymore, but this past weekend my son, daughter-in-law & grandchildren were visiting from out of state. My daughter in law thought it would be great to start dinner before I got home from work. Thank god my son was in the house with her & the children because she couldn’t get the burners to turn off. I know not to use them, she didn’t know that. He used to live in the house so he knew where to go to open the breaker box & turn off the breaker. I was looking for information on the internet as to what would cause this & stumbled across the recall. The numbers on the recall are very close. What options do I have? Thank you, [REDACTED]

It will cost me $185.00 to replace the front glass, plus a $60.00 service charge and $50.00/hour to have the glass installed. I feel this is unacceptable, dangerous, and it needs to be looked into. I will always be leery of it happening again, even with the new glass. I will never buy Frigidaire again, unless they own up to this problem and fix it.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Smoothtop Cooktop Gallery Series 30” Black

We were having an issue with our GLEC30S9EBA Frigidaire cooktop in that one of the burners would randomly turn on by itself and the only way we could get it to turn off was by turning off the breaker. I had a service person come and he replaced the electric control for that burner about 2 weeks ago. On 10/19/2014 I was making soup and had the burner set at 1.4. I noticed a burning smell later and came to the kitchen and saw that the same burner that I thought was fixed was on. I had a glass cutting board sitting on the stove and it had melted and there was a tiny fire.

I searched the internet and noticed there were recalls on a number of cook tops. I emailed Frigidaire customer service and they emailed me back saying my cooktop was covered under the recall and they gave me a number to call.

I called today and they said my cooktop is actually not included in the recall. After an hour on the phone and explaining I am having the same issues as the recall stove, they agreed to repair it for free. But they won’t cover the cost of having the previous repairman to the house and replacing the burner control becase that is not the proper part for the recall repair. They do not have an approved repair place in the area so I used someone who came recommended. He sells and services Frigidaire but was not aware of the recall.

I own Frigidaire smooth-surface cooktop FPCC3685KS. For the third time since owning this unit, liquid spilled on the control knobs caused the underlying control board to go defective.

Two days ago when this happened I had paper towels sitting on a burner that was turned off. I had a pot of water boil over, spilling liquid onto the control knobs. When this happened, all of the burners turned on to high heat, catching fire to the paper towels. The burners couldn’t be turned off with the control knobs as they were already in the “off” position. The only way to disable the unit was to turn off the breaker switch on my home electrical panel.

I have owned the stove for 15 months and 10 months into owning it the stovetop broke while i was cooking on it. NOTHING dropped, crack from front to back and spider cracks to the sides. Frigidaire said it was not covered under warranty because it was not manufacturer defect but i did not do anything. Long story short we had it replaced on our expense and not even 5 months later it has done it yet again! Before the incident i noticed the range staying a hot red color on low but didnt pay any attention to that FRIGIDAIRE is yet again claiming it is not their problem and our warranty is up so they wouldnt be able to do anything. If this problem has happened more than one the same exact break they are responsible this could cause some serious damage to my home and my family, being such a dangerous device they need to stand by their products like they say they do. I did not plan on replacing my appliances in a year they were supposed to last for 10 plus years what a horrible company/brand never again will i buy or recommend a Frigidaire/electrolux product again they LIE AND STEAL FROM CONSUMERS!

I received a Frigidaire FPEC3085ks model cooktop. Serial number NF10818969 direct from Frigidaire and installed by their service tech as a recall replacement for model PLEC30s9ec serial number nf93104560. The original issue with the PLEC30s89ec was the red indicator lights would overheat and break from the red lenses cap. Tech came out twice on previous model to replace the PS1151075 part and now on new unit both red indicator lights are broken part 318337201. This is clearly a manufacturing design issue and they need to get the design right. It is a hazard as when the light breaks away it allows moisture to enter the control area and becomes a fire hazard.

The product, in the report: frigidaire freestanding electric range

frigidaire freestanding electric range control panel failure turns oven on randomly. error code f-11. This is a fire hazard. We were home at the time of the failure and disabled the product by turning off the circuit breaker, so there were no injuries and no loss of property except the appliance itself. This is the second time since the product was purchased in Nov. 2011 that this appliance has had a major fire hazard problem. The first failure was a failed oven temperature probe in Dec 2013. Error code f-10 The oven temperature would go very high or fluxuate randomly despite the set temperature. Power to appliance was turned off to prevent further hazard at this time too. The control unit was replaced at this time as a fix. This part has failed again. This range has been used for normal household use only. It has not been abused or even used excessively.

This is unacceptable and Frigidaire will take no responsibility for unacceptable performance or saftey hazard of their products. They will not admit to any product recalls on this model or any updates or fixes for defective parts. How likely is it that my unit fails two times in a year unless there is a product defect? Do the math.

The oven was installed July 10, 2014 and before the installer went out of the door we realized that the stainless steel skin of the oven door which is bent over is unfinished and razor sharp - this has been confirmed by every installer and repairman who has inspected the oven. Today I refused delivery of what I had been told was a new, corrected oven. It still had knife sharp edges which I fear will cut someone’s hand - especially a child who may gain access while in the kitchen.

The product, in the report: Glass Cook top

Purchased a Fridgidaire Gallery Electric Cooktop in August of 2000. Within the first year, I noticed the outer ring on one of the large elements did not function properly, but we still had the other so we did not report it. Over the next few years, we began having problems with both of the larger cooking elements. We had to jiggle the knob to get the one remaining large element to work (the other had stopped working completely). I did not contact the manufacturer or retailer as I believed it was out of warranty. After both of the larger elements stopped working, the surface light that indicates the stove top is on remained on even though none of the four elements were warm to the touch. Until last night (September 8, 2014) our two larger elements had been dormant for several years. We had gotten so used to them not working, we foolishly placed things on top of the surface. Last night my wife smelled something burning. I got up to investigate and discovered that the back left burner (that had not worked for over 3 years and was in the “off” position with the knob removed, had suddenly turned on and melted/burned a loaf of bread. The resulting minor fire tripped the circuit and left us both shaken thinking about the “what-ifs.” I’ve read about the recall on Fridgidaire cooktops manufactured a year later than our model, but the descriptions of the problems with those models are very similar to what we experienced.

Frigidaire oven model FEF352AUE serial VG32202168, approximately ten years old. Preheating oven for the evening meal, when observed only about one inch of oven lower element was glowing and sparking. Glowing section started about three inches from the oven wall. The glowing section started slowing moving along the element with the appearance of a metal fire. A box and one half of baking soda covering the entire element failed to put out the fire (progress 3” to 6.5”). Quantity two, 25 ABC fire extinguishers burying the element in two to three inches of material failed to put out the fire (progress 6.5” to 11”). Slowly pouring water on the element dimmed the glow and caused some sparks (progress 11” to 18”), but the fire immediately resumed when water flow stopped. Placing a water soaked rag on the glowing section and adding water finally cooled and extinguished the fire. Oven removed from the residence by the first responders.

Same oven had been used earlier in the afternoon at low temperature for bread rising and at 325 degrees for baking bread with no issues identified.

The pan melted the trim separating the glass top from the control panel. The plastic could have caught fire. This trim material should not be made of a material that will melt and/or catch fire. The food caught on fire and flames filled the oven. I turned the oven to “off” and covered the vents to prevent oxygen from reaching the flames. The fire eventually went out. I shut off the electricity to the unit by closing the circuit breaker.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Electric range model FEFB79GSA, Serial VF71646294

I purchased a frigidaire electric range on 5/31/07, model FEFB79GSA, serial VF71646294. On or about January 13, 2011, I was cooking in the oven and within about 20 minutes the food was burned to a crisp and I couldn’t turn it off. On or about Jan 2013, the right rear burner was coming on by itself and going back off; it now does not work at all. I never had it repaired. On July 30, 2014 the left front burner would not turn off and I was forced to turn off the breaker. This appears to be a fire hazard and I would like to report this in the event there are others who are experiencing the same thing. Had I not been vigilant about staying in the kitchen while cooking anything, there would definately been a fire.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Electric smooth top slide in range

Sitting in another part of house when smoke alarm sounded. Saw smoke in kitchen area and found the kitchen filled with smoke. Wife headed toward range where smoke seemed to be originating. Just before she got there a glass casserole sitting on the stove top exploded. Found front right burner on Frigidaire electric range on even though knob showed it to be off. Ran knob through various positions and seemed to control heat level but would not turn burner off. Turned off power to range at breaker panel to make safe. No injuries and only damage was loss of casserole dish and glass everywhere but hate to think what might have happened if my wife had been closer when the casserole exploded or we had not been home.

Range is Frigidaire smooth top slide in model FGES3065KWA, serial # NF94824078. Checked your recall pages and found a previous model Frigidaire range had been recalled for the same exact problem. Called the Frigidaire recall phone #. They simply said my model # was not included and they could not help. Said they would document call and offered to connect me with customer service. Customer service also said I was not in the recall and since my warranty had expired, there was nothing they could do. Asked her to elevate to supervisor and only change was the offer to call a repairman for me but it would be at my expense. Told her not to bother. I would never feel safe turning that range on again repaired or not.

The consumer stated that he does not have the product.

(06/24/2014) The consumer stated that his wife was pre-heatingthe oven at 350 degrees to do some baking. While waiting for the oven to heat, she smelled burnt wire. She open the oven to see if she could see something. She saw nothing burning in the oven. The beep sound from the oven went off indicating that the stove was ready. She put the tray of cookies in the oven and shut the oven door. After about a minute, yellow flames came up the back wall from the control panel. She tried to shut the stove, but could not shut it off. All of the lights of the control panel showed yellow.

The consumer was not able to put the flames out. She called the fire department. They came out, unplugged the stove and turned the power out.

(06/24/2014) The consumer contacted the company. The consumer explained what happened. The consumer was connected to the claims department. The consumer left a message and was contacted (date unknown and person unknown). He received a letter on 6/27 to file a claim. The consumer did not file a claim because there was no property damage other than the stove.

(06/25/2014) A service person come out. (The consumer will include a copy of the service report)

The consumer asked for his stove to be replaced but was offered a discount of 50% on the parts. He would have to pay for the service visit. He refused the offer.

My frigidaire professional range (Model#FPES3085KFC) produced sparks coming from under the main control panel and then tripped the breaker. After resetting the breaker the range display reads PF and the front right burner goes straight to high even with all knobs in the off position. I called frigidaire and there is no recall for my model even after reading about so many incidents with the same model and similar electrical hazards occuring. I was told to check the electrical connection at the wall which has absolutely no problem after testing with a mutimeter. I am thankful that it didnt happen while i was away and that nothing was on or near the range when it happened. As of now I am left with an extremely dangerous $2000 range whether i am able to fix it or not.

Frigidaire Gallery range has the same issues as the one recalled but my serial number is not in the range. The range turns on automatically and even if you shut off the knob, some minutes later it will turn on. You turn the knob and it might or might not shut off, If it does then minutes later it comes back on. Also the knob for heat adjustment is not accurate at all and over or under heats. It exhibits this problem since new and just now noticed there is a similar recall on other units. we are concerned when we leave the house and the stove burner unit turns on when we leave. or what if the oven turns on and things are stored in it like pans and other things,

My stove is a Frigidaire Electric Range Model #model # glefs79dcl . We first noticed the right side burners would not regulate heat - they ran full blast regardless of what temperature we wanted. Now the left side burners are doing the same thing. It usually happens when the burner is turned to a hot setting first and then turned down. When you try to turn the temperature down, it will not respond. On the right side burners, they sometimes continue to run full blast for a few seconds even after you have turned the burners to off. The left side still turns off when you turn the burner to the off position. I worry that one day I will not be able to get the stove to turn off at all. We have inquired with Frigidaire about recalls before but they tell us that our model has no recalls even though other models by the company have recalls for this very same problem.

This poses a fire and burn hazard to consumers.
