    The product, in the report: Tone Up Flip Flops

    Wore my Skecher Tone Up Flip Flops at Frankenmuth on Easter Sunday for 3 hours which caused Posteriror Tibial Tendonitis in my left foot. Had to endure many doctors visits, loss of wages, 4 weeks of therapy and received no compensation from Skecher’s insurace agent nor did they pay me for my flip flops that they required me to return to them for investigation. SKECHER TONE UPS ARE THE WORST AND ONLY CAUSE DAMAGE TO YOUR FEET!

    Toning Shoes -- In October 2010; I woke up one morning and could not put any pressure on my left leg. I had sharp pain, from the back part of my knee. The back part of knee was hurt so bad; that I finally went to see my Family Physician. I was diagnosed in January 2011 with a torn ligament behind the back of my left knee. The diagnose took so long because my Family Physician was ruling out other issues.

    NOTE: I am [REDACTED], an attorney. I am filling out this report on behalf of my client [REDACTED]. I would be like to be informed of similar complaints involving this product.

    On October 1, 2011, [REDACTED] purchased a pair of Skechers “Shape-ups Liv Walk/Run Lightweight Toning Shoes” from a store owned by Skechers USA and located at [REDACTED]. The Salesperson recommended the shoe for running long distances and on the inside of the shoe box, Skechers made the following claim:

    “The key to Shape-ups LIV by Skechers is the curved bottom. It guides you back to the body’s barefoot stride. 1) the Diagonal SmartShoe bottom adjusts your stride...2) so the motion of each step naturally aligns your body’s center of gravity...3) and promotes fluid transition as you walk jog or run.”

    A brochure and DVD inside the box made similar claims.

    [REDACTED] began wearing the shoes to train for a half-marathon, starting with short distances. On November 9, the first time she attempted to walk/run 10 miles in the shoes, she experienced severe, debilitating pain. By the time she had driven home after completing the run, the pain had become so severe that she was unable to walk into her house. That day, she received acute care from Certified Family Nurse Practioner [REDACTED] who diagnosed her with Plantar Fascitis and said that the condition could easily be attributed to the shoes she was encouraged to buy because the shoes had inadequate arch support. She was referred to Physical Therapist [REDACTED], who also believes the shoes offered inadequate support.

    The product, in the report: Sketchers Shape Up Sneakers

    The Skechers shape up sneakers are very unstable for side-to-side as well as forward & backward balance. I recently tore my ACL while wearing them as I twisted my leg to the side while lifting the other. There is too much sole in the middle as compared to the rest of the shoe, creating a sort of rocking chair affect. They also have very little stability as the sole is narrow for the height. Very easy to twist your leg or ankle..or both. This has cost me thousands of dollars in emergency room, orthopedic doctor and physical therapy bills out of pocket and I still require surgery that I can not afford.

    Purchased Sketchers Shapeup shoes from Boot World who my work had come to our place of business. I was simply walking to the elevator at work and heard a loud pop and was in excruciating pain. I was unable to walk at all and was taken to the emergency room. I was told I had an 80% tear in my calf and hamstring. I underwent 2 months of physical therapy and am still in a great deal of pain. This injury was caused from the shoe as the bottom is curved. My work has no longer allowed the work truck to sell these shoes to the 800 plus employees as a result of my injury.

    The product, in the report: Sketcher women’s shape ups evolution

    On November 22nd when walking from one room in my house to the other I had to go up and down one step. When I stepped down my ankle rolled and I fell. I could not stand up for a while after that it hurt so badly. When I fell I hit my back on the step and had a bruise to it as well. Fortunately my ankle was just a sprain (although still painful). However, the doctor assured me there was nothing wrong with my ankle that would have made it give out. I had on a pair of shape up sketchers when the incident occurred.

    The product, in the report: Black, size 8 1/2 Sketcher Shape Ups toning shoes

    Aprox April of 2011 I started wearing Sketcher Shape Ups toning shoes to work 4 days per week as a sever/bartender. In aprox. Sept of 2011 I started to have swelling in the arch and pain in the heel and arch of my right foot. I went to the podiatrist at the end of Sept 2011 were the doctor said I had plantar fasciitis. Over the next 6 weeks I went every week to 10 days for treatment. shoe modifications, stretching exercises, medication, night splint, and two series of corticosteroid injections with no relief. On Nov 11, 2011 I had a a MRI. And found a tear of the central cord plantar fascia. I have been wearing an air cast since Nov. 24. for 4 to 6 weeks, and crutches for 10 days. And then will find out after all of this I still may need to have surgery. I have been unable to work since Nov. 24 2011. I had no problem with my feet prior to wearing the Sketcher Shape Up toning shoes. Therefore I beleive that they are a direct result of my above named foot injury.

    I was at Moutwest Community College in Huntington, WV helping the ASLSA Program with a bake sale. We were done and started carrying items back to the truck. I was carrying my load and walked over to truck and triped over the sidewalk. I fell and landed on my right knee, fractured my left ankle and broke my lower left tooth. I went to Holzer Urgent Care in Gallioplis, Oh to have my ankle X-ray and found out it was fractured thinking I just badly sprain it. Oct. 2010

    The consumer says she was wearing the shoes when she heard something snap in her foot. she needed help getting her shoes off because her foot really hurt. She says her right foot is still giving her problems. She says she has other friends who have had pain from wearing the shoes. The pain is below the ankle area. There was some ice at the bottom, my Sketchers caused me to shift off balance, rolling my left ankle and causing a fracture to my left fibula. Their product did not mention the possibility of causing this type of injury. I did contact Sketchers about this and they failed to respond.

    Purchased Skeechers shape ups I wore the shoes for the last few months during working hrs 5 days a week. I developed severe pain to ankles and feet the pain much worse on the R ankle/foot. Pain so severe that I had to stop working the last of July, waited to see if pain would subside. Scheduled an appt with foot MD and I have severe imflammation to area. Was able to return to work the first of November but the pain to my feet is still present but not as bad as in July. I put the shoes back on not realizing the shoes caused the injuries and now my pain is almost as bad as in July. I will never wear the shoes again

    After wearing Skecher’s Shapeups Athletics shoes for approximately a year, I discovered I have a shattered bone on the ball of my foot which I can only link to these shoes. After about 4 months of wearing the shoes, my knees and back started hurting, which I attribute to limping from the foot injury. It didn’t happen at one time, it happened gradually, so one day I was to the point where I could barely sit or walk anymore.

    My doctor said the injury is a running injury, but I am not a runner. I walk to work, stand all day as a teacher and walk home. By the time I get home I can no longer use my legs or feet.

    I have been to a podiatrist and got a custom made orthotic to help keep the pressure off the shattered bone. I have been wearing it ever since. The last few weeks have been horrible for the foot and knee pain. I’ve been limping again because of the shattered. I am now pregnant and the pain has seemed to multiply by 10 in the injury area.

    These shoes are not safe and have caused me so much pain that I don’t wish it on my worst enemy.

    I have always worn sketchers gym shoes. When they made the new sketcher shape up shoes, I went and purchased a pair. I have always walked at least 4 days a week at the same walking trail for years. After purchasing my new shape ups, I went on my walk with a girlfriend after work, and while we were walking, my right achilles tendon felt like something was pulling/tearing it. I then started to limp and finally could not finish my walk for the day. It has now been over a year since this incident (oct. 2010) and I live in daily pain. I have been to an ortho doctor who told me that even if I had to have surgery, the achilles tendon usually is never the same again. He ordered a brace for me to wear to see if this would help or heal it, and it has not. I really don’t want to have surgery, it is a very painful recovery. I have not worn the shoes again since that day. I have missed work and I can no longer walk distances anymore. I have constant pain daily, and it has really taken a toll on my social and professional life as well. I am a nurse who has to be on my feet all day.

    I have owned three pairs of these Sketchers Toning Shoes and just yesterday have had my 5 th fall while wearing these shoes. I walk in them daily about 4 miles. I am 52 years old and cannot afford to have these types of falls. My neighbor just told me of the issues her an her mother both have had while wearing these shoes. I am going to doctors this week, I am afraid I could have some underlying issues such as fractures, hip issues, leg/ankle problems . These shoes are dangerous and should not be manufactured.     This past spring/summer I purchased a pair of Skecher Shape-Up shoes from Sam’s Club. These shoes were worn no more than 10 times and I started noticing foot/heel pain. I thought it might be Plantar Faciitis. I had this pain for about 5-6 weeks and waited for a scheduled podiatrist appointment on November 2, 2011. My appointment was for continued treatment of tonail fungus. I mentioned to my doctor that I thought I was experiencing Plantar Faciitis and she immediately checked my foot and said she suspected a stress fracture. An X-ray showed an obvious horizontal stress fracture through most of the heal. Dr. [REDACTED] stressed not walking on my foot without the supportive boot she supplied. The X-ray also showed a marble size group of spurs/burrs. I have an MRI scheduled for November 7. She said she felt the spurs/burrs were a result of the fracture trying to heal and being re-injured from walking.

    In Oct. of 2009 I bought a pair of Sketcher Shape Up shoes ever since I had these shoes and been e=wearing them I’ve had major calf pain and ankle pain. I’ve been to the Dr. numerous times and been and outpt. due to my pain. The Doctor ran a few test to try and figure out whats wrong with my legs. For the last yr. and a half I’ve not had a full nights sleep b/c of my leg pain and have had to take pain meds. Before my Dr figured out that these shoes were causing my issues I could barely get up and walk around as the pain was so severe. I’ve not been wearing my shoes for a few weeks now and my pain level has decreased but still need pain meds at nite. Going back to see my Dr. in 3 month and to see how my legs are doing and if still in pain will run x-rays to see if I have permnant muscle damage in my legs. This has been a very traumic experience for me as I was always healthy and just couldn’t figure out what was going on not to mention all the pain and medical bills I’ve had over a pair of shoes that are advertised as being heathy and good for your legs.

    After wearing Skechers Shapeups for many months, I suffered a stress compound fracture of the right tibia and fibia. I had no other indications for this type of injury. I am not a runner or athlete. 30 years ago, these bones were broken in the same place and completely healed. We think that the shoes stressed the bone and since the old break spot didn’t have the flexibility of the rest of the bone, it snapped at that point. It is a very serious matter that required hospitalization, an emergency operation, and I am still in the long recovery process. I am 64 years old.

    I have fibromyalgia and Skechers Shape Ups were recommended by quite a few people as a way to get in a little beneficial exercise without a strenuous workout. At first I was quite happy - the cushioning was great and I felt better physically without any additional pain. Apparently I was wrong about the shoes and the completely bogus advertising. Two nights ago (10/23/2011) I had to be taken to the emergency room due to extreme pain in my left hip (completely unrelated to my fibromyalgia and something I had never felt before). The very first thing the ER doctor told me was to immediately take off my Skechers Shape Ups!! The doctor had seen himself numerous injuries and painful nerve issues caused only by these shoes! The doctor also directed me to several websites with information on the kinds of dangers these shoes pose as well as possible law suits. The number of testimonials I read regarding the dangers and damages do to the shoes is staggering and completely shocked me! It’s quite possible that I will now have lasting nerve damage to my sciatic nerve (as diagnosed on (10/23/2011) due solely to the wearing of these shoes. As I already suffer from the fibromyalgia, this is completely unacceptable!! I am a 31 year old, single mother of 2. Skechers should be made to pay for the neglect, physical hardships and false advertising of their Shape Ups!!!

    I have sustained a back injury from wearing Skecher Shape-ups. I purchased them in about 2008 and wore them for a little over a year. I then started have back problems. Nothing in my life was different so I figured it had to be the shoes. I went to the Dr. and he performed an MRI. I was told there was a cyst on my spine and fluid was leaking out and causing an inflammation. I was referred to an orthopedic specialist who carterized nerves in my back but it did no good. Before they were finished with all the procedures they refused to see me any more because I didn’t have money to pay off the bill.     Since summer 2010 I had worn Skechers Shape Ups shoes and sandals. In the beginning, these shoes were helpful for my leg and balance problems. I was healing post cancer treatment, and I have lymphadema in my left leg. Due to some pain, I had an MRI done on my right hip in the fall of 2010 which showed arthritic inflammation. I did not connect this to my shoes, so I continued wearing them. As time went on, my right hip pain worsened. By August of 2011 my hip pain was so severe that I couldn’t walk for exercise, and there were times I could not walk at all. It would keep me up at night. I was taking two to four Advil a day just to keep it from hurting so much that I couldn’t walk. In September I made an appointment at Midwest Orthopedic. I saw [REDACTED]’s physician assistant, [REDACTED]. They took X-Rays which did not show any fractures. However, after a thorough physical exam, [REDACTED] stated that I did have arthritis in my right hip. He gave a specific diagnosis which I can provide paperwork for. He said that my hip was degenerative, and pinching a nerve to cause pain. I asked him if my shoes, the Shape Ups, could be the cause. He said that he had read reports that those shoes did cause hip problems with extended wear. He had not seen any scientific reports about it at the time. He did state that his practice no longer recommended their brand of Shape Up type shoes, because of the links to injury and arthritis. He prescribed physical therapy. I was able to link my hip pain directly to my Shape Ups, because the week after I saw the PA, I switched to [REDACTED] shoes. My hip pain is virtually gone. I am left with a degenerative condition in my hip that I believe is due to Shape Ups. This is a danger product that was marketed to help with leg muscles, balance, joint pain, and circulation. Instead it gave me arthritis in my hip. I am very unhappy about this product and the claims they made.

    In June 2010 i bought 2 pairs of Shape Up Sketcher shoes... I followed the instructions regarding wearing the shoes..I work on my feet 8 hrs a day. As I broke these shoes in I found them very comfortable, but as the months went by i noticed that my right foot was having problems and my lower back was hurting more and more...By Oct, I decided that maybe I had wore the first pair out and started using the 2nd pair.. My right foot got worse. I have tingling and burning across my first three toes, and across the top of my foot. The pad of my foot ached and my ankle became very, very weak. I didn’t wear the 2nd pair of the shoes more the 3 or 4 weeks and I had to put them away completely...my foot was damaged...i have tried other shoes, switched between different makes and still my foot burns just like when i wore the Sketchers.. 24/7.....never ending.My ankle swells if I try to stand more than 30 min and my back aches.....This has put me out of work since April 1st 2011, after seeing a variety of doctors, including cardiologist, podiatrist and many more trying to find help for me....I truly believe that the Sketchers were the cause of all these problems.

    I purchased a pair of Skechers Shape Ups. Within 3 months of wearing them, I noticed alot of thigh, lower back, & hip aches. At times, I could not even get out of bed I hurt so bad. After I started feeling better, I started wearing the shoes again. Within weeks, I started experiencing the same problems. In May 2011, I was wearing these shoes...fell when the sole rocked & broke my ankle also tearing the tendon in my left foot. It is hard to wear a pair of shoes for any length of time.

    I am a 52 year old female. I own two pairs of Sketcher Shape Ups. In May, 2010 I had severe pain in my groin, could barely walk and went to an Orthopedic and had an x-ray. I was diagnosed with a fractured pelvis on my left side. No known cause for the injury. I had a bone density test and had my calcium levels checked and both were fine. I had worn Shape Ups prior to the diagnosis. In February, 2011, I had severe groin pain again and went to an Orthopedic and had an x-ray. I was diagnosed with a fracture of the pelvis (right side). No known cause. In March, 2011, I had a Nuclear Bone scan and a bilateral MRI of the pelvis. When I saw my doctor for the results on 4.4.2011, the only discovery was another fracture on the right side. No cancer or bone disease. And again, no known cause for the injury. Unknowingly, I had worn the shoes prior to the injuries. That makes 3 pelvic fractures so far. I am aware of the danger of these shoes and will never wear them again.     Purchashed two pairs of Skechers ShapeUps toning shoes one pair for home one pair for work. I work as a Nurse Anesthetist and spend ten to twelve hours per day on my feet. Purchashed shoes in June 2010 and Aug 2010, wore them daily until March 2011, by which time I had developed severe back and hip pain. Underwent bilateral facet joint radio frequency ablations at L1 and L2, no improvement in the level of pain or discomfort. Have had repeated steroid injections of both S I joints (sacro-iliac) on both sides with very short term pain relief, and pain seems to be worse when it returns. I am now scheduled for RF (Radio Frequency) ablations of the nerves in both S I joints in two weeks. The pain and suffering I have experienced have been due to the way the shoes altered my gait when walking putting increased stress on the S I joints.

    I purchased a pair of sketcher shape-ups because of their advertisment about how good they are for work and shaping your legs, etc. I have had several incidents on twisting my ankle with these shoes. At first I thought it was just getting use to them untill after I had worn them eveyday to work and was coming down some stairs at work and its like the right shoe just rolled off to the side and I twisted my ankle bad, thought I had broken it. I did not report injury to work but did inform my lead of what happened and had a couple witness watch me fall. i fell it was the shoe that made me fall that time and now that i look back at the other times i realize it was the shoes not me.

    On Oct 10, 2010 I was crossing the street and my left ankle suddenly rolled outward for no apparent reason. I heard a popping sound and my left leg buckled. I tried to regain my balance with right leg and that ankle rolled also. I was in the middle of the street. I managed to get myself the rest of way across and call for a ambulance. The ambulance took me to the er. A CT scan was done and my left ankle was broken in 3 places and my tibia was broken. The right ankle has a severe sprain. I had surgery the next morning. Screws and plates were put in my ankle and a rod was placed along side the tibia bone. I was in the hospital for six days. I then had to have a second surgery to remove the rod and have a plate put over the tibia. This was done because the tibia break was to close to the ankle and it wasn’t healing completely healing because of ankle movement. I was wearing skechers shapeup’s (jumpstart) when this happened and i know without a doubt that these shoes caused this injury. I had turned my ankle a couple times prior to this. At one point i thought the shoes might be causing me to get off-balance, but then i thought these are tennis shoes that promote good health so that can’t be it- i’ll just be more careful. I now wish i had listened to first instinct and stopped wearing the shoes. These shoes are dangerous and I can’t believe there now marketing them for children.

    I had purchased the skechers shape ups xf , from Jc penneys for $110.00+tax and I was excited to get them and try them do to the commercials saying how great they were to help women shape up. and I put them on and they did feel a little different then wearing regular sneakers , but I did want to give them a try so as I wore them for approx 2 weeks ,I had went to walmart and was walking from my car to store I fell and twisted my ankle (left) so I decided to go home and ice it and then the pain was getting worse and so I went the next day to the health dept and the dr. told me that I had fractured it and it would need surgery to fix it. I haven’t had the surgery due to health problems in the family that needed caring immediately.

    I was using the skechers shape up shoes for work, I was wearing them 2 times a week for 6 to 8 hours. Previous to my accident I had my ankle twist with those shoes but never anything major. The day of my accident I was on my lunch break walking back from the store after buying a [REDACTED] and my ankle twisted, I heard something crack and I fell down. I could not get up for a few minutes. I felt so much pain that I thought I had broken my ankle. Finally I hopped back to the drs. office where I work, the dr. I work for looked at it and said it was sprained so she had the nurse wrap it in an [REDACTED] bandage, and she gave me an ankle brace. By the next day it was completely black and blue and very swollen. I didn’t go to urgent care right away I waited thinking it would get better after icing it and soaking it. But it didn’t, so I then went to urgent care, they took x-rays, said nothing was broken that they could see, but that I had torn ligaments and would need physical therapy. They also told me to follow up with my dr. I did follow up with my dr. a few days later and she said it was a #3 torn ligaments and referred me to physical therapy. My ankle is still swollen and I now have fluid in it that needs to be taken out with a needle. Also I cannot move it side to side because it is still painful, it is also still swollen. I now have to go back again to my dr. to see what is wrong. I believe something is permanetely damaged. I have a hard time going up and coming down stairs. I also could not take time off work because I don’t get vacation time and I could not afford to take time off work. I cannot wear a closed shoe on that foot either. Its been almost a month since my accident and my ankle is not getting better. It’s been very hard for me with the pain and having to work like this.

    I purchased a pair of Skecher Shape-ups from Dillards Dept Store approximately 2 months ago. When I wore the shoes about 3 weeks I felt they were working on my calves and thighs, but I noticed a knot on the front of my lower left leg (hard and tender to touch), from the part of the shoe that tie together around the ankle. I stopped wearing the shoes and noticed tension and strain in my calves after not wearing the shoes. I spoke with two coworkers and they informed me that they experienced better results from cheaper versions of the shoe and others that purchased the skechers and [REDACTED] versions they could not feel any results. I had to take pain medications for my leg and the calves. I also had to wear open shoes to releive pressure from where the knot was located. The knot is still there and still tender to touch but is diminishing in size gradually. My experience with the shoes have caused me pain and suffering for some period of time and I just dont want others to go through that experience. Especially when I purchased the shoes to help me better my physical health, it was disappointing when I got the knot as well as the tension and strain I felt from not wearing the shoes.Thank you.

    Stress fracture of the right 4th metatarsal from wearing sketcher shape-ups. I bought them in June of 2010 to wear at work. I worked both Saturday and Sunday, 12 hours/day, at a hospital and walked on the treadmill a few times. I wore the shoes 2 or 3 weekends when I noticed my foot starting to hurt. After about the 3rd weekend, my foot continued to hurt all the time and would wake me up at night. I saw a foot Dr. the following Friday when we suspected a stress fracture. I work in MRI at the hospital, so we took a look and the MRI confirmed it was a stress fracture. I had to wear a boot cast for 6 weeks and a ortho shoe for 2 weeks. I am a healthy 41 year old whom has never had any problems with my feet in the past. I did return the shoes to the store I got them from at the outlet mall with a lot of hesitation and several days of waiting while they checked with corporate to see how to follow through with my claim that the shoes broke my foot.

    I had received the Skecher Shape-Up shoes as a Valentines gift from my sister of Feb this year, 2011. I started wearing the shoes that same week. I noticed the shoes were kind of hard getting use to, but I figured it was because they were new and needed to be broken into. In the month of March 2011, I had pulled a bad muscle, so I think, in the back of my left thigh. I had to take it easy at the gym thinking the pain would eventually go away, and was putting ice packs directly onto the thigh. I had figured it was due to one the machines I was on at the gym. Finally I started feeling better and continued onto my usual routine at the gym, my 7days a week. Then not even a month or so after that injury, I ended up getting knee pain really bad. It was to the point where I couldn’t walk without a limp, and took over-the-counter medications for the pain and discomfort I was having. I also places a knee brace on it thinking it would go away faster by holding it in place. But continuing on at the gym was only making the problem worse, so I had stopped going to the gym completlely, at the same time still paying my monthy expense for my membership cause I didn’t want to cancel and get chatged a bunch of fees. Since then I have not used my shape-up shoes, even around at the park I haven’t used them. Even after all the rest I have has since then injury, to this day I still have pain. I have days where the pain is so bad I probably take all together in one day a handful of OTC pain killers. Given the fact they don’t work for the pain, I continue to take more, and rest a lot more than usual. My life has changed a lot since the injury. I no longer can dance like I love to, exercise at the gym for the days and hours I would normally, and also can’t even stand in one place too long without having to put my weight onto my right leg to prevent my left leg with the injury more pain. I am also going to school for criminal justice to be a police officer, and am praying this knee injury due to the Shape-Ups aren’t going to cause any problems for me to pursue my dream.

    I purchased the new Skechers Tone-ups Fitness Tennis Shoes while I was on Vacation in June. I did not wear the shoes until the middle or late July after I returned home and went back to work where I wore the shoes. I made an appointment with my Podiatrist and was diagnosed with a Jones Fracture of the right foot on July 25, 2011 and had urgent surgery on July 28, 2011. I have no knowledge of any injury to my foot to have caused this issue. The only new thing I had done was wear the new Tennis Shoes.

    Started wearing “shape ups” @ work for comfort. When going to bed, no longer throbbing pain in legs. After about 9mos, developed severe low back pain that required visit to Ortho Surgeon who referred me to Physical Therapist. Mentioned to therapist that I had been wearing Skechers (shape ups) but had stopped- her response was that she and the ortho md “hated” shape ups. I really never followed her exercises as often as prescribed but the pain gradually left never to return by solely not wearing the shape ups any more. I contacted Skechers to inquire if I could trade the 2 pairs of skechers @ $110 each for regular skechers but was told it had been too long since my purchase (approx 1 year). Understandable. Would just like consumers to be aware that many Orthopedist do not support the Skecher popularity. I have spoken with several colleagues since my incidence, and their experiences were much the same with MD not recommending shoes or injuries having been incurred.     I was simply walking into my hotel room and suddenly went down. I have damage to both my ankles and knees. More severe on my left ankle and knee. I have severe swelling in my left ankle and up my leg. I went to the Emergency room the next day no broken bones and to my doctor today. I may have ligament damage and will be in a brace for 6 wks. The swelling will not go down. I have had balance problems with the skechers before now. I would wear them to work everyday and had problems tripping forward as I walked. I did not think my shoes were causing this. I am in severe pain and cannot work let alone get my shoe on. I have missed work and will be off for at least another week hoping it will heal.     Have been experincing pain in feet for months. I went to the doctor yester and have plantar faciitis and bone spurs in my heels. My doctor said that most probably wearing the Skechers Shape Ups had casued this problem. I have been walking two miles a day for years and purchased my Skechers Shape Ups about a year ago. I have experience the foot pain for 6-8 months. My doctor told me to throw the Skechers away and that ithe shoes cause an unnatural movement of the feet. I had to get a steroid shot in both heals, wear boots on each foot while I sleep, take anti-inflamatory/pain meds, pay inserts for my new shoes that I will have to purchased that are very expensive and also buy new tennis shoes. My bill at the doctors office was over $900.00. Skechers should not be able to sell a product that hurts people.

    I purchased Skecher Shape Up and Toning Shoes, either late last fall or shortly after the 1st of the year. I have had issues with the feeling that one of my feet is turning out, but seemed to have gotten them broken in finally. Then unexpectedly in July had searing pain in my left knee, as well as low back pain in the Sciatic area. I have had back issues in the past, so didn’t think anything of it, but have never had knee issues before, so didn’t know what was going on. I didn’t have any injury that I could remember that would give me this intense pain. After two weeks I went to my doctor to see what was going on as it wasn’t healing. I also have been having a great deal of hip and thigh pain. He felt that I had irritated the menisci and had inflamed muscles in the knee and prescribed a 7 day course of Prednisone to help with the swelling. At the end of the 7 days I was still not healed, so extended it for 7 more days. I was starting to feel some relief, so 2 days ago I went for a short, slow walk in my Skecher shoes. Now the issue is flared up again. I am convinced it is from the shoes, especially after doing online research... I am afraid that I will need to go to an specialist if it isn’t healed soon. I hope that something will be done to document all of these issues and warn consumers about potential problems.

    I am filing this report in the hopes it will save others from the injury I incurred while wearing Skecher Shape-ups sneakers.

    On July 17, 2011, I was walking with my husband in a local park. I was wearing Sketcher Shape-ups sneakers and have worn them many times before. We were walking a study pace as I approached a slight ramp from the street to the sidewalk. As I stepped onto the ramp, my sneakers literally rocked me forward causing me to loose my balance and I landed flat on my face. Upon falling, I slammed the sidewalk with my teeth and nose. I have never tripped while walking before and went down so fast that I had no time to break my fall. My body lunged forward and I landed directly on my face. I hit so hard and there was so much blood that I thought for sure I had lost my teeth and broken my nose. The impact to my previously perfect straight teeth has caused them to shift, my nose now has a slight and probably permanent bump and I have a scar on my lip. Unfortunately, it is still possible to develop an absess in my gums adversely effecting my teeth, so I will not know the permanent damage to my teeth for 6 months to a year. My teeth are still sensitive to hot and cold four weeks after this incident, my nose is still very tender and I no longer have perfectly straight teeth. However, at this time I still have my teeth and am thankful for that. When this accident happened, my husband took me to the local emergency center in town, I have also visited the dentist 3 times for pain and shifting of my teeth as well as to a doctor for evaluation of damage to my nose.

    In my opinion, the shape-ups should be taken off the market. I am by no means accident prone, I feel the design of these sneakers can cause great damage to anyone. I would rather be less tone and have my teeth. After all, the health of your body is effected by the over all health of your teeth.

    I was wearing Sketchers Shape Ups for a number of weeks. Immediately before the injury I had been raking for a few days on an unlevel surface and I had been walking at a brisk pace on level and unlevel surfaces. On December 4, 2010, I was sitting with my legs bent, and when I tried to straighten my right knee, I was mechanically prevented from doing so. I moved my leg around and was able to straighten it after a few minutes. The knee gradually became swollen, and a few hours later I had a sharp and very severe pain in the affected knee. I iced it and did not walk on it again until the following day. I began wearing a knee brace, and if I removed it, I would have the same pain and be unable to walk. I went to an orthopedic doctor at the beginning of February 2011. I had x-rays and was diagnosed with osteochondritis dissecans with loose bodies in the knee. I do not believe this would have happened if I had not been wearing these shoes. The shoes make you very unstable when walking on unpaved surfaces and I was twisting my knee frequently when wearing the shoes.

    I purchased a pair of Sketchers Shape Ups to walk in, because waking is or should I “was my form of exercise”. Three month after wearing the Shape Upse. I noticed pain in my feet, made a doctor’s appointment, and was diagnosed with Achilles Tendonitis. Now it has been one year and about three month later and I am still under doctor’s care. I know of other people who have worn the Shape Ups shoes and experienced some typer of injure. The Shetchers Shoes are unsafe.

    After spending months exercising by walking in Sketchers Shape Ups, I developed Exercise-Induced Compartment Syndrome in both lower legs.

    I was walking 3 to 5 miles a day in these shoes. Because of the rocker soles, the shoes force the wearer to pull up on the toes more, which results in over-developed muscles (specifically Tibialis Anterior) which then push up against the fascia during exercise causing extreme pressure and pain and loss of muscle control.

    After a few months, the symptoms started. I was unable to walk a mile before I had to stop to alleviate the pressure and pain. It finally got to the point where I could not walk a couple blocks before the pain and pressure started.

    I ended up having to go through Physical therapy and then a very painful surgery - Bi-Lateral Fasciatomies on February 25, 2011. The surgeon had to cut the fascia surrounding the muscle compartments in both legs so that the muscles would no longer cause pressure and pain.

    At least 2 Doctors and the physical therapist stated that this condition was caused by these shoes. Compartment Syndrome does not occur in walkers - mostly runners and a few other sports, but not walking. But because of the way these shoes force the foot, ankle, and lower leg to be used in different ways, this injury occurred.

    I started exercising in these shoes in June of 2010 and the surgery was February 25, 2011.

    I purchased a pair of Skecher Shape-Up sneakers in January 2010. I followed their recommended guidelines for use of their product. After several weeks of use I was experiencing severe pain in both lower extremities and my gait was severely impacted. I was actually fearful that I had some medical disorder. I stopped using the sneakers by mid to late February of 2010. My gait continued to be impacted and my leg pain although somewhat lessened still was present. On March 15, 2010 I was escorting a client by walking next to him. I turned and placed minimal weight on my left leg. I felt a sharp pain and heard an audible snapping or popping sound. I was unable to bear any weight on my leg at that time and needed to be assisted to my office. I was seen by my primary care physician the following day and also had xrays. I also had an MRI which showed the torn meniscus. I was also seen by an orthopedic surgeon who indicated that I would need corrective surgery. For a number of reasons I decided to postpone this surgery. However my left leg remains painful and unstable. My lifestyle has been significantly impacted by this injury. I am now scheduled for surgery on September 12, 2011 and will need to miss work for this procedure.

    I wore the sketcher shape up shoes last summer off and on for a few months. I was walking 3 miles a day. And felt some burning in legs and ankles but thought the shoes were suppose to do that. Then once I was able to take the time this summer to walk I started to wear them again. I walked up to about 2 to 3 miles once a day. One evening which was June 24th 2011, I put the shoes on to walk and got up the street and had to turn around because my ankle started hurting and took my shoe off and my left ankle was swelling. I couldn’t walk that evening. So I waited for a few days to see if it would get better and it didn’t had to go to see my doctor and then again a week later because it still wasn’t getting better, had exrays done, then had to go back for cat scan, still not better and referred to Orthopedic doctor. He gave me strict instructions to not wear the shoes and to get rid of them. Today is the 17th of July 2011 and it’s still not better and I have to go back to the Orthopedic Dr.in 2 weeks. I’m not able to wear shoes other then flip flops. I have an inflamed tendon.

    While walking in my Sketchers, my right ankle rolled outward.. I heard two ‘snaps’.. I knew I’d broken my ankle.. as I was trying to gain my balance, my left ankle rolled outward.. I heard one ‘snap’.. I then knew I’d broken BOTH of my ankles. Fortunately, a jogger was coming up beside me. I asked him to use my phone and call my friend who was close by.. I knew I didn’t want to stand and cause further damage so an ambulance was called.. they ‘loaded’ me in by stretcher.. and took me to the hospital emergency where I was x-rayed. It was confirmed that I sustained a ‘spiral’ fracture on the outside leg bone about an inch above my ankle bone.. and I sustained a ‘chip’ fracture on the inside ankle bone. My left outside ankle bone sustained a ‘chip’ fracture as well.. I was confined to bed for one month as the doctor waited to see if my ‘spiral’ fracture showed bone growth.. Fortunately this occured.. had it not, I would have had to have surgery. I had a cast on my right leg for one month.. a boot on my left leg for the same one month.. the second month, I wore a very substantial ankle brace on my left, and a boot on my right. the third month, doctor transfered ankle brace to my right ankle and I am still wearing this apparatus.. I still must wear ‘support’ or ‘pressure’ stockings on both legs as I experience swelling in both and frequently must sit with ice on both to help reduce swelling.. both ankles are still very fragile and swell if I’m up for extended periods of time.. I’m still attending physical therapy.. probably for another three weeks. My physical therapist said she’d seen 11 Sketcher related ankle injuries in the past months. The phys

    My knee was injured while wearing sketchers tone up mary jane shoes. I had been having some discomfort since I bought them and started wearing them, but didn’t put it together until I started having severe pain and was almost unable to walk. I felt a pop and had horrible pain. I immediately stopped wearing the shoes and slowly the pain lessened as did the swelling. I had worn them off and on for 2 weeks or so before the worst day. We were actually out of state when this happened, but I will list my address at home rather than where we were staying at the time.

    I purchased Sketchers Shape-up shoes due to being a server in a restaurant and being on my feet approximately 40 hours a week on a hard floor. The shoes were being advertised to help take stress off of my back and to tone muscles. After wearing these shoes for approximately 4 months I began to have moderate back pain. I didnt realize that the problem was related to my shoes initially so I purchased another pair as the pain became greater eventually growing to a severe level and causing me to reduce my work hours to 25 a week with no doubles allowed any longer per Drs. orders. My doctor did an X-ray and found I have a deteriorating disk in my back which had been aggravated by an unknown source. After taking pain meds and resting constantly when I wasnt working, my pain continues to be at the same level without any relief unless I stay in bed constantly with a heating pad. As a single person, that is impossible. I stopped wearing these shoes about 3 weeks ago and so far there is little improvement. I have never suffered from any back condition in my life until I wore this product. I also had worked as a server for 2 years without any issues with my back until I wore these shoes. I firmly believe Sketchers shape ups are directly related and I will continue to seek medical treatment for this problem.

    I was walking in Sketcher Shape-Ups and turned to look to my side and slightly back when my foot rolled and I fell. A neighbor helped me home as the pain was severe and I could not bear any weight whatsoever on my left foot. I put my foot on ice and elevated it - hoping the pain would subside by morning. By evening it was worse so I emailed my doctor telling him I was pretty sure I had broken my foot and asked him to order an xray Monday morning, which he did. May 24, he confirmed it was broken and referred me to an orthopedic surgeon whom I saw on May 25, and my left foot has been a boot ever since. In a follow-up appointment my doctor said I could walk very short distances ...and on June 14, I put on my right-foot Sketcher ShapeUp and realized with its sole as it is, it gave me close to an even gait with the orthopedic boot on the left foot and the Sketcher Shape-Ups shoe on the right. I headed to the mailbox and fell again - this time with my right foot rolling as I turned and broke the same bone in my right foot. Until the second incident it didn’t really occur to me that it was the fault of the Sketcher Shape-Ups - but now I’m certain. Unless it were the shoes, it would beyond coincidental to break both feet in the same place under basically the same circumstances. I have been housebound for the most part the past two months, and it’s particularly inconvenient and expensive since I’m a senior residing alone.

    I was wearing Skechers Shape-ups at exercise class and when we bent over to touch out toes the shoes made me go too far forward and I hurt by back. I couldn’t move well or bend at all for several days and went to the doctor. I got some exercises to do from him and he thinks it made me pull a muscle. I wrote Skechers and they offered me a percentage off on several of their shoes but said not to get tone-up or shape-ups and several other kinds since they have stability problems.     On 6/11/2011 my daughter and i were doing our daily walk. We go from the grocery store in town for 4miles up then come back. On our wy back we moved over to let 2 bicyclists go by safely. In the process my foot came down half on and half off the pavement. Then bottom of the shoes are rounded for new technique in exercise. Because if the rounding form it allowed my foot to slide sideways folding my ankle almost up to my leg. There was a very loud snapping sound as I feel to the ground losing all control of my momentun. I had lascerations on my left elbow and palm of my hand , along with numerous bruises, but the right ankle bone was already swollen as large as a baseball. My daughter helpd me off the ground and helped me get the 1 +1/2 back to the vehicle where we went straight to the Hospital. I did not let the hospital place a cast on my foot as I have no insurance or medical coverage nor extra money. i then called the Podiatrist recommended by hospital and talked to nurse. She set me an appt for the next morning early. (Dr said was very lucky as these shoes are natorious for ankle injuries, and this is exactly what the nurses and techs from the hospital told also. many ankle injuries have been caused by these shoes.) He discovered that I not only broke the tip of a bone off in my ankle but also cracked a bone in the back. I am now in a cast for 4-6 weeks not weight baring at all in this time. I am to see him again on the 7/19/2011. I now have to have help doing every thing and am restrained from any of my normal activities. Crutches are not working well for me so I am using a half seat walker for a pedal car to get around my houseuntil furtuer notice.

    On 25 May 2010 I was walking in my neighborhood with my husband and a friend wearing my Sketcher Shape-up walking shoes.

    While walking at a normal pace I stepped on a slightly uneven portion of the curb where it meets the street pavement and the shoe on my right foot rolled sideways causing me to fall and severely break my right wrist and forearm.

    My husband took me to the ER and I received emergency admission and surgery the same day requiring metal plates and screws to mend my broken arm.

    On June 16, 2010 I wrote a letter to the Sketchers Legal Department informing them of this incident of instability of their shoes and ask them to consider creating a safety warning to be included in the shoe packaging.

    I also ask them to reimburse me for the price of the shoes.

    I have not heard from Sketchers.

    Bought Skechers Shapeups at Kohls April 16, 2011. Started wearing them for awhile each day in the house and around when going to store etc. Started walking about a mile when the weather started being warmer about the end of May. By about June 9th, I could barely walk or put much pressure on my legs and I kept waking up in the night to switch sides to lay on. I had about 3 trips to chiro in June with little relief, but he suggested on the first visit I quit wearing the shoes and I did. Went to orthopedic surgeon on June 20, 2011 who did x-ray and indicated that the pain I was having down the inside and front of my legs was caused from my hips and he gave me a shot in each hip for bursitis which I had been treated for ten plus years prior but not since that time. He said stress fractures wouldn’t show up on the x-ray, but he thought the cortizone shots would alleviate the pain and to not wear the shoes. I am still in pain, but the tightness in my upper legs to my knees is a little better and the pain in my knees is intermittant. The pain in my hips and sides of my hips are not much better and I am taking hydrocodone. I slept well for about 5 days after the cortizone shots took hold, but have a constant ache now in my hips, upper thighs both inside and out and a pain in front of my leg above my knees. I believe the Skechers are to blame and I do recall the feeling that these areas were being “worked” when I wore the shoes, but there was really no pain in the beginning. I expected some sensation as these areas were worked so was not alarmed I was feeling a “workout”. It wasn’t until I woke up with severe pain that I realized something wasn’t right. I made one last visit to chiro this past week, however, it did nothing to alleviate the pain. I will be seeing my orthopedic doctor again in about a couple weeks as I want to allow some time to determine if it’s going to subside since I haven’t been walking for exercise since a few days before seeing the chiropractor the first time.

    I purchased a pair of Sketcher’s Shape up sneakers to tone my legs and buttocks. I am a nurse and spend a lot of time on my feet, and thought I could put that time to good use. After wearing them for approximately three months I noticed some tenderness and pain in my left instep, arch, heel and bottom of my left foot when I took them off. I did not fall or turn over on my ankle while wearing them. It was a gradual injury over time. I had to go to my doctor because I could no longer stand the pain in my foot and ankle. After an x-ray and MRI of my ankle it was determined that I had torn ligaments and tendonitis in my left foot and ankle. I cannot explain the excrutiating pain that I experience in my ankle, especially at night while trying to sleep. I have lost countless hours of sleep, plus I must wear an ankle brace both during the day to be able to walk and one at night in able to sleep. I am taking pain medication round the clock. Ultimately I will need surgery to correct the damage that was done to my foot and ankle.These people need to be held accountable for this damage. I know that I am not the only person in this situation. Not only do they NOT tone muscles, they injure them instead.

    On a trip to Washington DC with my family, we balanced our sight seeing experience by bus, boat and walking. On one of the walking days, I rolled my left ankle to a very painful extreme. The rocker bottom and height of the Skechers Shape Ups that I was wearing caused the roll and accentuated the extent of my injury. As a result, I ended up with a 2 1/2 cm tear in the peroneal tendon of my left ankle. The healing process required two surgeries, 20 doctor visits, 70 days of missed work, 76 days in 6 different casts, 112 days in a brace support for walking, 900 minutes of physical therapy, 450 minutes of home therapy and 42 days of strict bed rest. From all of this recovery, I had to check myself into [REDACTED] to help return my body to its “presketchers” shape and weight--a far cry from the shapely body they promise as a result of wearing these shoes. Prior to this injury, I had been wearing shape ups for about three months, gradually building up a tolerance before wearing them for extended periods of time. It is now 18 months after the first surgery and I still cant wear regular shoes--I am only able to wear flip flops or clogs due to continued swelling accompanied with pain on the left ankle. This has greatly reduced my ability to exercise or travel by foot. I have had to make many lifestyle adaptations including a new top load washer/drier and a heightened toilet to name just a few. I cringe whenever I see someone wearing Skechers Shape Ups. They have changed my life in a very adverse way. Losing the gift of my left ankle has been the greatest handicap in my life. Skechers Shape Ups are responsible. The general public needs to be informed of the great risks involved with wearing these shoes. If I could go back in time knowing what I know today, i would never have laced up in Skechers Shape Ups.

However, stepped on a small item 1/2” in the garage two weeks ago while wearing the shoe just about the middle of my foot.     I wore Sketcher Shape Up shoes for 2-3 months for walking. I had to quit wearing the shoes because I developed a very painful case of bursitis in both hips that required doctor visits and physical therapy to treat.

    I walked 3 days a week for 30 minutes each time and also wore the shoes at other times. I loved the cushioned bottoms.

    Location - I often walked indoors and outdoors at work but also wore the shoes at other times, so have marked location as other. Indoor walking was on carpeting and outdoor was paved surface.

    I purchased the Sketcher’s Tone-up shoes about a month ago from Sports Authority. I wanted shoes specifically designed for walking (not running) that I could use while walking my dog every day. They were out of the cheaper brand and the tone-ups were on sale. I was excited to also be toning my lower body. Anyway, the first night I wore them I had pains in my right knee. I thought it was a coincidence. I continued to wear them for a half hour every day. The right knee pain continued on and off and started to radiate to my back. In the past few days I’ve had discomfort in my entire right leg (like a pinched nerve sensation). My family has convinced me to throw the shoes away. I’ve been hesitating because they were an investment. I’m very frustrated that stores are continuing to sell them.

    I used to be a fitness enthusiast. I was an avid runner until shape ups were introduced. I bought a pair of shape ups and they were very comfortable, so i bought 2 more pairs. I wore them on a daily basis, thinking i didn’t have to run or exercise anymore if i wore them all day.     The consumer says she was walking and had a spontaneous fracture in her ankle. She did not trip and was on a plain sidewalk. The consumer says she had been walking about 20 minutes before this happened. She says she has been walking 5-7 miles every day for years now. The consumer says that she needed a cast for her ankle after visiting the doctor and she lost 12 weeks out of work.

    I have been wearing Sketchers toning shoes for about a year now. I have noticed extreme pain in both my feet after wearing them all day. I am a hairstylist and I am on my feet all day. I can hardly walk after relaxing without them on even after a short period of time. The mornings are really bad! I have bad back pain also from wearing these.
