    The product, in the report: white sketchers shapeup sneakers with curved heal

    On Jan 20th after walking I went to the supermarket -while bringing in groceries and walking up the stairs, on the fifth step I fell backwards. I was home alone and knew I needed to get to a phone to call for help-I struggled up the stairs in extreme pain called my husband. He contacted the ambulance who found me laying on the kitchen floor. They took me to the emergency room. Diagnosed with a right knee sprain. Sent home in a knee immobilizer, crutches & narcotic medication. Was told to follow up with Orthopedic Dr. which I did on 1/26/10. MRI was done on my right knee was told I had a bone fracture in the knee. Followed up with physical therapy for approx. 2 months and had cortisone shot in knee for pain. Ongoing issues with knee, can only walk up stairs one step at a time. Any form of exercise I experience extreme pain and swelling. MRI was also done on my back 2/23/2010 due to pain from the fall. Followed up with a pain management doctor regarding injections. 1 injection done. Another dr said I didn’t need the injections I needed radio frequency ablation. Today I am dealing with back pain because I don’t know what to do.

    The Sketcher Shape Up made my right knee swell and hurt so much on a scale of 1 to 10 my knee hurt at 11the pain made it unbearable to drive a car, work and even just to walk on May 5, 2011 I had to go to the Hazen ArCare Clinic in Hazen,Arkansas for this pain after going to the Doctor and my knee got better, after wearing the Sketcher Shape Ups again my knee would swell again and hurt after several attempts I just stopped wearing them all together and have not had any more swelling in my right knee.

    The product, in the report: toner shoes sketcher shape up

    Toner shoes.

    I waited almost a year after the shape ups came out to try them. I figured if there were problems they would get reported and the product would be pulled.

    They claimed the shoes reduce feet and back pain by improving strength and circulation.

    They state they reduce the impact on joints and lower back and have maximum shock absorption.

    I did not buy them as exercise equipment. I bought them because they made it sound like they would help with pain by building up muscles needed for proper posture and stamina.

    When I adjusted to them I threw away all my regular shoes and only had toner shoe. After about 9 months, I could not walk up or down stairs without fear of falling.

    I went to a doctor who repaired a tear in my right knee. It did not fix the problem but I am able to do stairs with pain but not fear of falling. It was his opinion that I will need a complete knee replacement in about 5 years. There is already very slight bone on bone.

    My left knee was also affected but did not require surgery.

    I am doing this complaint because I feel they should warn people with joint issues to stay away from their product. They are promoting them as a way to help. They did not and I honesty believe they caused the damage to my knees.

    I also see that they are making them for children. I fear for the safety of the children who do wear only shape ups. If they cause damage to adults what are they going to do to developing children?

    The product, in the report: The pair that I fell in are black sandals. Both heels are frayed and I thought that strange, none of my other shoes/sandals are like that.

    On Aug 31, 2011, I fell in a RV Park, Holiday Mountain RV Resort, in Mt.View, ARK, the 4th day on my vacation. I was walking from our truck to our RV when my heel slid out from under me and I broke my left fib and tib, broke my right thumb, rib, shattered right elbow and tore right rotator. The lady from the RV park came down when my husband went up to call the ambulance. She kept telling me how I should not be wearing “those shoes” (my Sketcher Tone-up sandles). Said I should throw them away. On and on she went about how I should not have those shoes on, with so many broken bones in my body, I was just trying to not go into shock. I was admitted to Baxter Regional Medical Center for two weeks. Two days after I was admitted, Dr. [REDACTED]operated on my elbow and put many pins in it. He said I would need 2-3 more operations and maybe a replacement elbow. I was in rehab 4 weeks when I came back to AZ because we lived on the second story condo we just bought. They said if there was a fire, I would never be able to go down the stairs, we have no elevator. I just had my second surgery May 5th, 2012 on the elbow to repair the lateral collateral ligaments, take out two screws that the heads were sticking out and clean the scar tissue out of the elbow joints. My Dr. now said I will wait as long as possible to have an elbow replacement. I was in P.T. 6mo. then out for 2mo since my elbow hurt so bad due to the grinding of pins and scar tissue. I have started back to P.T. a week after this last surgery. I have to wear my arm brace 8-10 weeks until the ligaments heal. I am right handed and this is my right elbow. I also tore my rotator and that causes me pain, but they can’t operate on that for a few more months yet. My medical bill have become so great that I have to pay $20 a month to each Dr.

    Went to Curves to excersie,when I step off the stair stepper I fell backwards and laned on the floor on the right side of my hip. They called the Miller County Ambulance cause I was unable to get up or move. When the ambulance arrived they put air cast on my leg, put me in the ambulance and started an IV. Then they proceeded to take my blood pressure and they took me to St Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City Missouri. After I arrived there the Emergency Room Doctor examined me and gave me some pain medication and then sent me for an x-ray. And then the radiologist told my physician that my right hip was broke and then they sent me for a cat scan and chest xray. They also said that a bone was broke in my right leg. They admitted me for surgery the next morning to be done by [REDACTED]. During surgery they put a rod and my leg and fixed my hip. After about a week they sent me to Capital Region Medical Center for therapy where I stayed for around one and half weeks. When discharged they sent me home with pain medication, muscle relaxer and home therapy for 2 weeks. The doctor stated that I would always be walking with a limp and still have pain on and off.

    The product, in the report: Skechers Shape Up Shoes, athletic shoe. White, high rocker sole, soft. Manufacturer claims it was designed to tone and firm while walking. Simulated walking in sand. Was meant to help with balance.

    I stepped off of a small retaining wall, two railroad ties high, onto a pavement joint that was slightly uneven. My right ankle rolled to the right and snapped back to the left. I broke both bones in my ankle and dislocated the ankle. There were fracture blisters, which prevented my ankle from being put in a cast for two weeks. When the cast was removed a month later, there was a sore on my ankle 2” in diameter by 3/8th of an inch deep, caused by internal bleeding. Because the bones were in place, there was no reason to do other than normal x-rays. I was wearing my Skechers Shape Up shoes at the time of the fall. I had stepped off of the retainer many times without incident, never before in the Skechers Shape Ups.

    I was using the sneakers to keep in shape like advertised. My siatic nerve had become pinched and I was 5 months pregnant when I fell down the stairs spraining my foot. Luckily my unborn baby wasn’t harmed. Although being on my feet for at least 8 hours a day working as a rehab cna I have problems with my nerve pinching and I’m fearful of falling all the time now event though I don’t wear the sneakers anymore. I am still experiencing these back problems after 2 years since I began experiencing the siatic nerve pinching due to those sneakers.

    While walking on the street in TX last winter (Feb8, 2012) I twisted my ankle while wearing my Sketcher ToneUps. I fell flat on my face on the pavement smashing my glasses into my face , ruining the lens and cutting a gash above my right eye and in the outer corner of the eye. It resulted in a black eye, of which I took a picture. Also my neck was out of alignment and have needed to see a chiropractor several times. There were other knee and hand bruises, but thank goodness no broken bones.

    I wore skechers shape up for about a year and half, I did not notice any difference in weight loss or toning or shaping, however I have been off work since January 2012 with a stress fracture, in which I have a piece of bone broke off at the pad just under my big toe. During the time I was wearing the shoes I noticed that I would have to catch myself from falling forward and I was constantly leaning forward on the front part of my foot and toes. I believe this was due to the smaller part of the rounded sole. I am currently awaiting on a refer al for am MRI and possibly surgery thereafter.

    I have purchased two pairs of sketcher shape ups. I have been wearing sketcher shape ups for over 2 years and have started have knee and hip pain. I did not know about the problems with this shoe and assumed it was just a sign of getting older. I have gone to a ortho clinic and have gotten some relief with meds. Now I am thinking the problem may be with me wearing this shoe. I will discontinue using the shoe to see if my pain will go away.

    I bought Skecher shape up shoes with the underdstanding that they would tone up my muscles. I wore these shoes all the time for over a year. I started having problems with my knee. Ultimately I wound up tearing a meniscus and had to have surgery. I had surgery March 15th 2012. I have had issues with my knee ever since.

    I started having severe pain on my neck, shoulders, knees, and feet. Started shortly after waring Skechers shoes. First I thought that it is a coincidence and may be is the long shift hours. But the fact is the shoes that caused more and more problems. I took Ibuprofen to treat that pain, but I started suffering from the irritation in my stomach, I went to the emergency room because I vomited for hours. They found that I had gastritis.     I got my sketcher shape ups for christmas 2010. The sales lady said they were good for people with arthritis in the ankles and that they provide excellent support. In either March of 2011 I was getting out of a friends mini van and when my foot hit the ground it rolled to the side and I fell. My foot and ankle began to swell so I took off the shoes put on flip flops and has my friend take me to the emergency room. The doctor took x rays and said that my foot and ankle were badly sprained. I was unable to walk for 2 weeks then it took about 2 months for my foot and ankle to work and feel right. I work as a housekeeper so this kept me out of work for a while. I have also noticed that since I started wearing these shoes that my feet, ankles, and hips hurt worse. I am also overweight and wanted these shoes cause they were supposed to help you get into shape.     I bought my first pair of Skecher Shape Up shoes in January of 2010. I am a head custodian at an elementary school and am on my feet all day walking up and down long halls. I wear a pedometer and walk an average of 15,000 steps each day at work. I thought the shape up shoes would help me lose weight, and benefit my hips, back, and neck, as Skechers claims. October 12, 2010 I was walking down stairs at work and my left ankle twisted and bent over made a loud popping sound as I fell backward and landed on my back side. I was taken to the hospital by ambulance. I had torn 2 ligaments in my ankle. I was off work for 2 1/2 weeks. I filed a SAIF claim since it was an injury on the job. I continued to wear Skecher shape ups but started noticing my feet were numb by the end of the day. My feet and calves / shins felt tired and worn out. I didn’t realize the shoes were the problem just yet because I had hoped the benefit claims where accurate. I actually went to a doctor to see if my circulation was ok. I thought I had other issues. He said my heart and circulation was fine. I go through shoes fast with my line of work and when I bought my 3rd pair, I decided to buy the lower profile shape ups which were 1 1/2 inches tall. My feet still became numb, and my lower back ,neck, and left hip began giving me trouble over the past year and I have been going to a chiropractor for relief. I have recently been diagnosed with bursitis in my hip on the left side. In February of 2012 I decided I was done wearing Skecher shape ups. I felt my body was getting worse so I threw them in the dumpster at work. I bought a regular pair of skechers and have been wearing the flat regular shoes since. I still have back, neck, and hip issues and feel older than I actually am. I have gained weight (6 pounds) even though I take between 13,000 and 19,000 steps a day at work. I am only 45 years old. I have told my Chiropractor many times “I am too young to be this old!” My body feels it has aged tremendously and I have also told him I can’t imagine getting old. It scares me if I feel this bad now. I have given my testimony to others who I see wearing Shape Ups hoping they will heed my warnings. I have an account on the Skechers website that has an order history of all of my purchases. I bought 3 pair within 1 year before I realized they were doing more damage than good.

    On 4/8/12 around 4 pm. I was walking my dog while wearing skecher brand shoes ( the kind that is supposed to excerise your legs). We had walked a little over a mile and a half when my dog and I stopped to greet another dog. After they said hello, and the other dog had left, my dog continued in the same spot sniffing, for a bit . I stood, waiting for her to finish, and as she started to walk I half turned my body to start walking, and I was on the ground. I was very confused and felt foolish because I didn’t trip on anything nor did I take a misstep! I didn’t get up right away because I couldn’t, I was hoping that someone would walk by and help me. as it would happen, there was no one around at that moment to help. I still had to walk another half a mile to get to my car, plus a very short car ride home. Once home, my husband gave me some ice, and helped me with the elevation. I thought I may have sprained my ankle, but when I tried to stand, I found that I couldn’t, thats when I decided to go to the ER. my daughter drove me there at about 6;30. at that point I could no longer walk. she had to bring me a wheelchair. The ER Dr. confirmed a broken bone. gave some pain meds, splinted my ankle. gave me a refferal and discharged me at 9 pm. My podiatrist confirmed that Tuesday, and advised surgery for 4/13. He inserted 2 screws.

    I was first drawn to Sketchers’ “Shape-Ups” ladies exercise shoes mid-year 2009 via multiple TV advertisements. These ads featured women walking, running and exercising wearing these shoes with “stated” results of losing weight, toning calf muscles and generally improving a person’s physical health. Consequently, I purchased one pair in December, 2009 and wore them each day, 4 to 5 days a week, walking at least 3 miles each day. While I imagined some benefits from wearing these exercise shoes, I also began to “suddenly” lose my balance during regular workdays...wearing regular, average height, high heel shoes. This didn’t occur every day...and on no occasion did my “falls” result in broken bones, but, the knowledge of some weakness in my legs and ankles became more and more pronounced so that I wore “flat” shoes often. Unfortunately I didn’t initially associate my issue of periodic “imbalance” and a low-grade constant aching feeling in my legs with the use of these shoes. And even more unfortunate for me was the fact that after that first full year I was shopping one afternoon an found that a store had “shape-Ups” on sale...so I brought another pair and proceeded to wear my new shape-ups through most of 2011. Currently, I have been to several specialist regarding the now constant “pain” in both my legs (not the knees) just the lower leg muscles. However, the doctors can’t find any evidence of diseased or neurological disorders. Yet, my mobility is severely compromised; I cannot sit for more than 20 to 30 minutes without having to hold on to something stable in order to get up. I can hardly sleep at night given the constant aching pain, can’t wear any type of “dress” shoe with a high heel and I can’t ascend or descend stairs at all. It was only a few months ago that a friend of mine (knowing of my mysterious leg ailments) asked me if were still walking everyday and wearing the “shape-Ups” I had previously raved about. When I told her no… that I was not walking everyday anymore and therefore was no longer wearing the shoes, she told me about the “Shape-ups” recall and all of the consumers’ who have been in some way injured as a result of wearing the shoes. I simply would like to add my story in hopes that the company eventually understands how “badly” this product has impacted its intended audience and takes steps to try and “right” the wrong!

    I’ve had a MRI done because of inflammation in my knees and they said I have arthritis and a cyst in my knees. I never had any problems until I brought three pairs of sketches and at my work I’m always on my feet after the third pair (2 1/2 years) I notice my knees hurt so that’s when I went to the doctors. I had to change jobs because I can’t be on my feet because of the arthritis and swelling of my knees because of the cyst. I think this was caused from the rocking motion of the shoes. I had a stress test done 3 years ago and I was able to run on the trend mill with no problem my knees did not hurt.

    On the way home from my internist’s office where I had just had a routine physical, I was walking across a public park in Philadelphia named Love Park. This is a major attraction for visitors, and is kept in pristine condition as a result. I was walking across a level brick area when I felt my right ankle twist, caving inward, and I fell to the ground, abrading by right knee and hurting my right ankle. After walking the six or so blocks home, I told my wife, a retired physician, what had happened, and she sent me to the ER at Hahnemann Hospital, where X-rays confirmed a displaced fracture of the right fibula. Since then I have had surgery on this ankle, and had a plate and upward of 10 screws put in to stabilize the ankle and allow it to mend. I am 58 years old, in good health, and have never had a fall or suffered a broken bone in my life. This is the first surgery I’ve required since my tonsils were removed as a child. I bought these shoes to help maximize my walking workout, but I believe that the design instead of helping tone muscles actually makes the act of walking less stable and more dangerous.

    I own five pairs of the Sketcher Shape-up shoes. I really liked them because of the comfort, but back in March I began experiencing pain in my ankle and foot. After many medical tests including an MRI, it was diagnosed as inflammation of the Achilles and Tibia tendons. I have been in a boot up to my knees for the past six weeks and am undergoing physical therapy. Both my orthopaedic doctor and my physical therapist told me to get rid of my shoes. When I heard about the lawsuit, I did some research and discovered that the most common ailment was inflammation of the achilles tendon. I am not sure yet how much longer I will be undergoing therapy.

They cause a lack in depth perception but I didn’t realize how severe it was until I stepped on to our back patio ( about 5 inches ) and I stepped half on and half off the porch.     While wearing my Sketcher Shape-up shoes I never made the correlation of my balance and ankle turning in so often to the wearing of the shoes. It happened frequently. This January while jogging to a basketball game my right ankle turned in and caused my right leg to break. It is important to note that there was snow on the ground and ice on the ground. I did not slip on the ice, the fall was solely attributed to my ankle turning in. I got my cast off the end of March. The second week in April, again wearing my Sketchers Shape-ups, I was walking on a flat, solid, free of any clutter surface, and again my right ankle turned in. This time causing 2 broken boned in my ankle. One exterior bone and an interior bone. My connection to the shoes came to me when the nurse caring for me in the ER on my second break looked at my shoes and asked me if I was wearing them when I fell? I replied yes. She said they see a lot of broken legs with those shoes.

    I am a walker. About one year ago I purchased and began wearing Sketcher Shape Up tennis shoes. I wore them for about a month when I started having pain in the ball of both of my feet. I immediately quit wearing them; however, the pain did not subside and prevented me from the only form of exercise I enjoy ... walking/running.

    After about a year and about 20# in weight gain I was determined to get a good shoe and went to a podiatrist. He determined that the nerves in both of my feet were inflammed. I have had a series of shots (quite painful) to shrink alleviate the pain. I have also required orthopedic inserts to take pressure off the ball of my feet thereby alleviating some of the pain.

    The orthodics seem to work but I hate having to wear them ... plus they are expensive.

    I have recently read that this may not be an isolated incident. Thank you.

    I bought a pair of Sketchers Toning Shoes because my heart doctor told me to start a good walking program for my blood pressure and heart health. About the 13th of April I started walking at Veterans Park, in Lehigh Acres, FL. About two or three days later I noticed a great deal of pain in my left foot. Sometimes when I was walking the foot would just turn over because the sole of this type of shoe is really wierd and cumbersome. I ignored it thinking it was just a strain. The foot got progressively more swollen and painful, and on 4/20/2012, I finally went to the emergency room knowing this was more than just a sprain. They took xrays and told me it was a compression fracture, and to not wear those type of shoes again! I can’t wear any type of shoe right now, and can barely walk at all. My heart health program is once again on the back burner, as walking is almost out of the question.

Yesterday at school during outside recess a piece of mulch went right through the bottom of his sneaker and punctured his foot. These new shoes are not strong enough to protect a child’s feet. If he would have had a regular pair on sneakers on there is now way a piece of mulch would have punctured through the bottom of a rubber sole.

    I had recieved a pair of shape-ups from my grandma as a present for my birthday, because I really wanted a pair to try and help me get into shape. I wore my shape-ups like every single day for anything I had to do. One day in April 2011 I was playing with my daughter at the park, I was wearing my shape-ups, and I ended up falling due to my leg twisting and I had a sharp pain in my leg and knee. I thought I just pulled a muscle. I went to my dr a couple days later due to my knee swelling up and bruising, and his first thought was that I had a meniscus tear in my knee, and told me to stop wearing the shape-ups that I always wore. He ordered a x-ray, and that didn’t show anything wrong. So then he ordered physical therapy, and a CT Scan and MRI. After we had gotten the results back, he ordered me to see a orthropdaedic specialist because as my family dr he was unable to figure out what was wrong. So I scheduled to see a specialist. I was unable to get a appointment with him until August 2011. So for roughly 2 months I wore several different types of knee braces to try and help the pain. The entire time I waited to see the specialist I was in severe pain and kept seeing my normal dr due to the pain I was having. Finally I seen him and he asked what had happened and had me move my leg and knee certain ways, and documented the pain and reactions I would have to the certain exercises he had me do. He told me that what I had going on, that he could see from my MRI that I had done, that I had a patellofemoral disorder, and patellofemoral instability with pain and pain syndrome. He said the only way to get rid of the problem would be to perform a arthoscopic latteral release on my knee. He said that it wasn’t a guarantee that it would fix my problem, but due to the amount of time that has gone on since the date of the injury, he believes this would be the only option left. So we scheduled my surgery for September 20, 2011, and that is when I had my surgery. I never linked my knee problem to my shoes, until my friend told me there was a lawsuit against the shape ups. I decided to look into it and realized that there were things that stuck out to me, such as one woman saying she had a meniscus tear due to the shoes, and then I checked into it because I in fact was wearing my shoes when my injury occurred. While talking to my husband after reading all this online, he reminded me that in fact months ago he thought it had been because of my shoes that I had this knee injury, because he had heard that they are not good for you, and also reminded me that the dr had recommended not to wear those shoes. And Im not overweight or play any sports, so I really shouldn’t have a injury to this degree just by playing with my daughter at the park.

    I purchased the Sketchers Shape Up toning shoes and while walking I fractured my left ankle, went to the dr. had xrays done, he told me to get rid of those shoes. I still have pain in that ankle from time to time and was told I am now prone to fractures in that area. I can’t run because I am afraid of getting hurt again and my ankle will never be the same now.

    I had been wearing skechers shape-ups for 2 years because I heard they would help with back aches while working on my feet all day. They did help , but just this last Nov. I was dancing and my knee gave out and dislocated. I have just recently found out that because my muscles on each side of my kneecap are not toned was the reason for this dislocation. The therapist said the first thing you need to do is throw away those shoes! They are the reason for your injury. This is my second therapist since the dislocation and they seem to know what is going on. I did not have the shoes on when the accident happened but I did have on another pair that were skechers from the same company. Just wanting to let people know that the shape-ups are very hard on your knees. I am currently working to rebuild my muscles in my legs and knees.

    On April 4, 2012 I was wearing my Shape Ups shoes for the first time with the intention of going on a walk around the neighborhood with my daughter. I walked out the front door, walked down one or two steps and my ankle rolled causing me to fall the rest of the way down the stairs. My daughter drove me to the ER where I was diagnosed with fracture of the Distal Fibula-which is at the end of the fibula and is one of the bones that support the ankle joint. I also have bruising and swelling around my knee. I had xrays taken on April 6, 2012 and there are no fractures. However torn muscles have not been ruled out and a MRI may be taken at a later date.

    Today, April 10, I met with an orthopedic surgeon had repeat xrays taken and was told that surgery is probable due to bone displacement. I have a follow up appointment on April 17 to make a final decision. In the meantime, my foot is in a cast and I am to remain off of it unless using the restroom, bathing or traveling to doctor appointments.

    Hello , I purchased Skechers Shape-Ups and wore them for a day or two and through out the day my ankles and legs were very uncomfortable. (heavily fatigued). So I took shoes back to Nordstrom and explained how the shoes made my ankles and legs feel and sales women told me that I had to get used to the shoe and once my feet become used to the shoe that they wouldn’t be as uncomfortable. So I wore the shoes for another week and couldn’t take it anymore and stopped wearing the shoes. Prior to wearing the shape-up I wore heels daily and now am unable to wear most heels. My ankles swell continuously, both of them. I can’t wear flats at all and have this weired aching in my ankles.

    Tuesday, March 20th, 2012 caller who is a kindergarten teacher had just walked her daughter to music class and was walking through the park when she felt a bit of a divot in the dirt as her left foot turned and she fell. She was in pain so sat for a while thinking that the pain would subside which it did to a small extent, enough for her to walk back to her vehicle. She picked her daughter up, drove home, immediately put ice on her foot and rested thinking that she had just twisted her ankle. The next morning her left ankle was swollen and achy so she contacted her doctor, was given an appointment the same morning (Wednesday, March 21st). The doctor also thought that callers ankle was a bad sprain but scheduled xrays to be sure. The xrays were returned showing that caller’s fibula was broken, doctor referred caller to an Orthopedic Doctor who prescribed a walking boot to steady/protect callers ankle.

    Caller has not contacted manufacturer and is not sure whether she will contact them or not.

    I started wearing skecher shape ups about 2 years ago. About 6 months later my back started hurting, my hips and knees started popping and hurting. I kept wearing the shoes because I thought maybe it was my body changing after I turned 31 years old. Also, the Dr.s kept saying its just my muscles go to PT. Finally last Nov.,after 2 years of wearing these shoes, I got to the point were I couldnt move without screaming and needed crutches to walk and stand. So I made the Dr.s do an MRI. I found out I have 2 herniated disk and 2 places with artheritis. I blame these shoes because I never had pain before these shoes and never injured myself in a way that would cause herniated disk.     The consumer was riding a bicycle wearing the shoes for 30 minutes. When she got off the bike she noticed it was hard to walk.

    The consumer states that there was pain from her hip down to her thigh of her right leg. Around the end of 8/2011 she went to see a chiropractor (name of chiropractor not provided) who diagnosed her with nerve damage. She was treated by the chiropractor for three weeks.

    Around 9/2011 when the symptoms continue to persistent she went to see a orthopedic surgeon who diagnosed her with having pulled ligaments and she was treated.

    Around 11/2011 she felt better and wore the shoes again for two hours to run errands. When she removed them she felt pain in her left foot. She went back to see the same orthopedic. Two X-ray’s were provided and she was diagnosed with having a fractured left foot.

    She went to OBC Hospital in Suffolk VA where they placed a boot on her foot. Not being able to walk in the boot due to the reoccurring pain in the left leg she was given a orthopedic shoe. She was required to wear the shoe for two weeks.

    While in the hospital that date around 11/2011 a bone scan was done on the right hip which she was diagnosed with having poor ligaments. She discontinued the use of the shoes.

    The firm was not been contacted but she plans to do so. She indicated that her leg and foot are showing signs of improvement but the healing process is slow. CONSUMER ADDED: After riding my bike in August 2010--Went to Dr. for pulled muscles and tendons, after four months of treatment on right leg. Put tennis shoes on for 3 hours that fractured left foot as seen on bone scan. I am 100% sure my foot was fractured after wearing this shoe for three hours. My left leg could have been weak from carrying my injured right leg. I have been out of commission for the past 9 months. I still have shoes in new condition but would never put them on again. I paid $109.00 for these shoes and found out hundreds of people also claim similar injuries from the shoes.

    On Friday, March 9, 2012, my wife was wearing a pair of Skechers Shape-up toning shoes. She walked a few feet up an incline in the back yard to retrieve a piece of plastic that had blown into the yard, and when she turned around (foot at right angles to the slope), her foot rolled and her ankle immediately dislocated and fractured. The paramedics arrived in about 10 minutes, and when they saw the shoe she had on they shook their head and stated that they get many emergency calls related to that shoe type and make. This was the first that I had heard that there was a problem with this type shoe, though I had purchased a pair myself and did not like them, because I noticed a tendency of instability when I walked across a driveway sloping downward. Upon reaching the ER of the Cottonwood Hospital, the orthopedic surgeon [REDACTED] also commented about the many incidents he had seen that were related to the wearing of this shoe, and said they were dangerous. X-rays showed the dislocation, and after a pain blocking shot, he “reduced” the dislocation, and X-rays again were taken which showed fractures of both side bones in the ankle. The operating room was scheduled, so he put a cast on her foot, and scheduled surgery for Monday, March 12. Following surgery, her foot again was put in a cast, with a follow-up scheduled for March 27. Her intense pain initially was to be controlled by Hydro-Codone, which was not successful, so prescription was changed to Percocet, which has been controlling her pain.

    The product, in the report: I have recently been treated for the pain associated with both my knee caps wearing out. I am 43 years old and have worn Sketchers Shape Ups for walking nearly 45-50 minutes nearly every day for about 1 1/2 years. On Sept 30, 2011, I went to my PCP for excruciating pain in both my knees. He ordered “sun rise” x-rays on both knees. I was prescribed [REDACTED] and then [REDACTED], which caused me severe heart burn, which I treated with [REDACTED]. The x-rays seemed to be normal. My knee pain got progressively worse. Oddly enough, it is worst when I am sitting at my desk. Today, I saw an Orthopedic doctor, because the pain has become unbearable. He did an x-ray of my right knee and he said, in layman’s terms, both my knee caps are wearing out. I am developing arthritis. He gave me a cortisone shot in my right knee and I need PT. He told me to stop wearing the Sketchers immediately. In three weeks, I have a second visit to treat my left knee. Apparently, when you walk or exercise, your knees are lubricated and when at rest, they dry out. My knees pop constantly, they throb and ache deeply and after sitting for an extended time, I can barely walk when I get up. I have two pairs of Sketchers Shape Ups. When I bought them, I was amazed at how comfortable they were. I never had chronic, debilitating knee pain in my life. I believe these sneakers are dangerous and should not be on the market. I don’t know what the future holds for me. I bought one pair at Kohls and the second in Las Vegas in May 2011, at their brand new factory store. There was no DVD to view. I would like to protect others from the pain and suffering I am living with today due to these sneakers.

    I have recently been treated for the pain associated with both my knee caps wearing out. I am 43 years old and have worn Sketchers Shape Ups for walking nearly 45-50 minutes nearly every day for about 1 1/2 years.

    On Sept 30, 2011, I went to my PCP for excruciating pain in both my knees. He ordered “sun rise” x-rays on both knees. I was prescribed [REDACTED] and then [REDACTED], which caused me severe heart burn, which I treated with [REDACTED]. The x-rays seemed to be normal. My knee pain got progressively worse. Oddly enough, it is worst when I am sitting at my desk.

    Today, I saw an Orthopedic doctor, because the pain has become unbearable. He did an x-ray of my right knee and he said, in layman’s terms, both my knee caps are wearing out. I am developing arthritis. He gave me a cortisone shot in my right knee and I need PT. He told me to stop wearing the Sketchers immediately. In three weeks, I have a second visit to treat my left knee.

    Apparently, when you walk or exercise, your knees are lubricated and when at rest, they dry out. My knees pop constantly, they throb and ache deeply and after sitting for an extended time, I can barely walk when I get up.

    I have two pairs of Sketchers Shape Ups. When I bought them, I was amazed at how comfortable they were. I never had chronic, debilitating knee pain in my life. I believe these sneakers are dangerous and should not be on the market. I don’t know what the future holds for me.

    I bought one pair at Kohls and the second in Las Vegas in May 2011, at their brand new factory store. There was no DVD to view.

    I would like to know if my problem warrants further investigation. I would like to protect others from the pain and suffering I am living with today due to these sneakers.

    I BOUGHT A PAIR OF SKECHERS SHAPE UPS IN FEBRUARY 2011, I WORE THEM IN MARCH 2011. WHILE WALKING IN THE SHOES, MY FOOT ROLLED OVER AND INCIDENTLY ROLLED MY ANKLE CAUSING A RUPTURE IN MY ACHILLES TENDON. I ENDED UP IN AN AIR CAST FROM THE EMERGENCY ROOM, TO THE NEXT DAY IN A SOFT CAST AND ORTHOPEDIC BOOT FROM THE ANKLE AND FOOT DR. SINCE THIS INJURY I HAD PROBLEMS EITH MY ANKLE IT NEVER SEEMED TO HEAL. AFTER EXTENSIVE TESTING OVER MANY MONTHS, REVEALED ENTRAPPED NERVES AND TARSAL TUNNEL DUE TO THE INITAL ANKLE INJURY.     skechers -shape ups shoes, the shoes are unstable in the way for me rolling my ankle, this past June i rolled my ankle injured left shoulder and this past Labor day i rolled my ankle again the left shoulder was injured again.

    i come to see that it is the shoes that lay the problem of rolling my ankle. And know two left shoulder surgeries later six to nine months to recover . And this is way I’M reporting the problems.

    I purchased Sketchers Shape Ups and with normal use (walking) I developed severe knee pain which resulted in surgery of my left knee for a torn meniscus and several weeks of physical therapy. I am continuing to have problems with it. I also received a shot of cortisone in my right knee, trying to avoid syrgery on it because I will be unable to work or drive for a while for awhile and I will need help getting to 6 weeks of physical therapy. Even with health insurance it is becoming a financial burden.

    there is no incident, exept for purchasing a faulty product. I purchased skechers shapups and wore them for about 2 years. I then started feeling sever pain in my heels. I stopped wearing them for the past 5 months and can still not walk on my feet due to the severe pain in my heels. I have stress frctures in both my heels and cry everytime i have to walk anywhere. I am a UT austin student and I have no choice i have to walk around campus to get to classes. I am crying and hobbling by the time i get to campus in the morning. This product should be banned and i hope skechers goes out of busness with alll the lawsuits against the company.

    The product, in the report: The tennis shoes were to be used to shape up while wearing them. They caused me the loss of both of my big toe nails. 8 months later and they still have not grown back completely.

    I bought 2 pairs of Sketchers shape-up tennis shoes to wear while working out and walking. I wore them both constantly. I noticed in April of 2011 both of my big toes were sore and turning black. I thought it was nothing until about a week later they started bleeding. Both of my big toe nails fell off. I had nothing. I was in pain and had to wear bandages. Now this January of 2012 and they have still not grown back completely. My feet look awful.

    I would like to be part of the class action lawsuit against the company and get a refund. For one pair I paid $110.00--for the other I paid $90.00.

    Bought a pair of shape-up shoes from Sketcher in Las Vegas in last March, wore a week and developed plantar fasciitis on my left foot. Doctor told it would heal by itself, and it took over a year with excruiating pain on each and every morning. Needed to walk on toes in the morning until the discomfort was tolerable later the day. The discomfort will still come back from times to times.

    I have been wearing the skechers tone up shoes for about 6 months. About the beginning of January, I felt a pain in my hip area. about 3 days passed and the pain began to travel down my leg. 3 weeks later the pain traveled down my entire leg and is extremely painful at times. It is very hard to walk. I have seen a doctor and he believe it to be an issue with my sciatic nerve. I have had no trauma that I can remember to the area. I have been prescribed Robaxin 750mg and Flexeril 10mg and this does not even do enough to control the pain. I have feelings of pain, and some numbness at times.

    On December 25, 2011 I was doing my daily walking. I was wearing my Skechers Shape Ups that I purchased on November 18,2011. I still didn’t feel comfortable wearing these toning shoes but I was told by the sales representative that it would take time to get comfortable wearing them. I stepped on a sidewalk crack and over compensated my balance to avoid falling. I heard a crack ... Fortunately some walkers called my brother for help. Also a resident, a nurse, who lives in my complex saw me sitting on the grass and inquired to what happened. She and her boyfriend stayed with me until help came. I found out that my left foot was broken and have to wear a “boot” for 4-6 weeks. This is the first time I’ve broken any part of my body.

    I bought sketcher shape ups over a year ago as recommended by my podiatrist. After some time I started to get a minor pain in my right knee. I stopped using them because I thought they were the reason for the pain. Over the past year I would occasionally get pain in that knee and only used the shoes minimally. This past saturaday 1/21/12 I put them on the remove snow off my vehicle then removed them. When I got to work a horrible pain went through my knee and I became unable to bear weight on it. I was able to make an orthopedic appointment for this wednesday 1/25/12 and for an xray. I believe this is linked to the shape up shoes.

    I purchased Skechers brand toning shoes in December 2009. As a result of wearing those shoes for months I fractured my foot twice. I believe what they advertise is not true and it comes with no warning of causing any hazards. I was only told that I would “get used to” the shoe. Of course I wanted to tone up, but not at the risk of my health. I fractured my foot once in April 2010 and again in September 2010. I believe it was a direct result of wearing this brand of shoe.

    I purchased the Skechers in early 2011 and began wearing them during everyday walking hoping to shape up. By early Apri/May of 2011, the tendons and ligaments in the top of my foot were so inflammed that I could not flex my foot without pain. In June of 2011, I went to see an Orthopedic doctor regarding the problem thinking I sprained my foot. He informed me that I had developed tenititis in my tendons of my left foot and gave me a walking boot to wear for the next six weeks to allow the swelling to subside and the tendons to heal. The swelling did go down but the damage has been done. And kind of jumping or too much flexing of my foot will lead to swelling and pain.

    I purchased a pair of Skechers Shape-Ups shoes in approximately December 2010 or January 2011, and broke them in as instructed. Eventually, I began wearing the shoes for longer and longer walks and after four months of wear, on May 14th, 2011 my hamstrings and associated muscles, tendons and ligaments in both legs tightened up and would not release. Here are more detail regarding my initial injuries.

    Right leg tends to display more points of tendon pain than the left • Patellar tendon tender to the touch • Tendon connection between quad and knee also tender to the touch o Right quad also ‘throbs’ occasionally when leg is at rest • Hamstring tendon connections – insertion point at knee and beneath the glutes burns • ‘Shin splints’ in right leg also noted mostly at night, or in the morning

    Left leg • Hamstring tendon behind left knee becomes very achy after about ½ hour • Left foot: I occasionally wake up with a sprain in the metatarsal if I sleep with my left leg straight – currently, I have to keep the foot flexed at night

    Both legs • Ripping or tearing sensation occurs intermittently when walking short distances in one of the above mentioned pain points causing me to discontinue the activity

    Since my injuries, the doctors have entertained many ideas regarding the cause, including disease and this has delayed my reporting of this injury.

    As of this date, (January 13, 2012) I am still experiencing most of the issues above. My quads throb and spasm less frequently, and my shin splints have diminished, but I am still unable to walk without assistance. Additionally, without medical or disability insurance, I am unable to obtain any necessary diagnostic tests such as an MRI.

    I was wearing Skecher Shape up shoes and was walking on a tile floor on December 20th, when I suddenly lost my balance and fell backwards. I could not get my balance at all. I fell so hard that I broke my Tibia. I am in a hard cast and unable to do anything for myself at this time. The shoes do not appear to be stable for walking.
