    In 2010 I purchased a pair of Sketcher Shape Up shoes. After wearing them for a matter of months, I developed Achilles Tendonitis in BOTH of my achilles. I have had it now for over two years and it will not heal or go away. I am in pain every single day of my life. These shoes have hindered my quality of life, and are now affecting my ability to make a living. These shoes and all shoes like them need to be removed from the market.

    The product, in the report: Skechers S Lights, USA Forces, Super Z light up shoes.

    The stitching on the toe area of the shoes has come loose, which has caused a trip hazard anytime my son got close to a fixed object on the floor. Additionally and most importantly, there is a defect in the materials and the glue that was used to adhere the decals to the shoes and is being considered a choking hazard. On the back area of the right shoe, the green glued on stripes have come loose. Also on both the right and left shoe the letters in “SKECHERS” have come off or are coming off. I cannot locate the “C” on the left shoe, but was able to locate the “S” as my two year old was chewing on it.

    I have worn Skechers tone ups since shortly after they came out. I have worn the sandals, athletic shoes, and the Mary Janes for work. A little over six months ago I noticed pain in the back of my right ankle. I continued my normal life until I noticed I began to avoid walking. I saw my primary care physician who gave me exercises and ibuprofin. After three months with no abatement, I was referred to a specialist who said I had a ruptured Achilles tendon, casted my leg, and took me off work for 6-9 weeks. I do not know exactly when the rupture occurred since I have a very high pain threshold and there was no distinct incident to cause the injury. After researching Achilles tendon injuries, I am only able to relate it to the Skechers tone ups that I have been wearing nearly all the time.

    I was walking down the street and came upon an intersection that I needed to cross. I came to a stop as I had the red light.somehow I just lost my balance in those shoes and ended up falling to my hands and knees.     I purchased Skechers shape ups to help with problems with my lower back. I would wear them all the time when I was not at work. I do not wear high heals, never have but I had some back issues. Turns out the more I wore them the more pain I had in my feet. The tendons in my feet will get inflamed where I cannot walk. I went to the dr this past winter about it and he said just soak my feet and try to massage them. I have been doing that now for a couple of years. Not much else to do about it.

    I broke my leg while wearing sketchers. I now have 6 screws, 2 pins and a plate of sheet metal in my leg. My ankle just went out while I was walking out of my bedroom. I had complications from that surgery and had to have life saving surgery for DVT’s in my other leg.

    In 2011, I bought a pair of Sketchers Shape-Up shoes because I had seen advertising about the health benefits of wearing shoes with the rocker [REDACTED], such as helping with weight loss, muscle tone, increasing effectiveness of exercise, etc. I found walking in the shoes a bit difficult, but the literature and other information that came with the shoes stated that it might take time for me to get used to the rolling gait the shoes caused, so I ignored the difficulty and wore the shoes 2 or 3 times a week beginning in April, 2011. One day I was trying to walk a bit more quickly than usual because I thought I would get a better workout. I inadvertently stepped in a small hole in the street. Because I was wearing shoes that affected my gait and balance, I couldn’t catch my fall, and I injured my left foot. When I went to the doctor and had x-rays, it was discovered that I had broken the far left metatarsal of my left foot. I had to wear an orthopedic boot for eight weeks while it healed. It was a simple break, and the doctor and orthopedist I consulted thought that it healed as well as could be expected. However, I’ve experienced swelling in the foot from time to time, and now, a year later, I’ve developed plantar fasciitis in my left heel. If you require statements from my doctors, please let me know and I will get them and provide them to you. Thank you.

    I wore these shoes for about six months, then all of a sudden my hips started hurting and my back then one morning I could not get up when I bent down I had to crawl to my night stand and try to get up I went to a back doctor and after spending thousands of dollars with insurance with physical therapy and MRI’s I have a bulging disk I am currently on medication and have to see the dr every three months.

    I have been wearing Skecher Shape-ups for 2 years,5 days a week to work.I work as a medical assistant and x-ray technician for a local doctor.In October of 2011 I started having pain in my left foot/ankle for no apparent reason,I had no injuries,nothing had changed in my work schedule.I went to an orthopedist and after an MRI was sent to a foot and ankle specialist.After another MRI,physical therapy and injections,I was told that I had alot of fluid buildup and inflammation around my Achilles Tendon.I had surgery in September 2012 and was off work for 1 month.I am just now getting back to work and still have pain from the surgery which the success of is still not known.When the surgery was performed the fluid was drained and an anchor was attached from the tendon to the ankle bone in an attempt to strengthen the Achilles tendon.The muscles in both of my calves are extremely tight and painful quite often.The cause of the pain is still unknown,as I said before I have had no injuries,I take no medicines on a daily basis,am a very healthy individual.Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.

I was finally diagnosed with with stress fractures in 2 of my toes. I had to wear a medical boot for almost 6 months. It still never healed completely and still have pain today. I have not been able to workout properly since.

    The product, in the report: Attached are copies of my photo. I have been a loyal customer to Skechers until now. I am beginning to notice that my left foot starting to have a yellow corn.     While wearing my skecher shapes ups I was attempting to put a dog in my truck, while I turned to pivot on the ball of my foot, I felt a pop and a snap in my foot that traveled up to my hip and prevented me from bearing any weight on my leg. Currently I am having problems walking on my foot for any extended period of time. I have seen a doctor who has prescribed me gabapentin for nerve pain and I am waiting for xray results. I believe that this would not have happened if I had not been wearing my shape ups. The shoes became uncomfortable to wear since the injury to my foot.

    I was using my Sketchers tone up fitness podded shoes I bought from Footlocker for only a few days when the pod in the right shoe popped unexpectedly causing me to fall and sprain my ankle. I was using my shoes to walk to work and around on my off time for about 3 days. It popped as i was walking towards a bus stop to go to the shopping center. It was around 1pm when the pod popped in my shoe, i believe.

I started having problems with both knees, so I went to the doctor had an MRI done on my right knee and X-ray on my left. I had survey on May 18, 2012 due to broken bone fragments and other problems. I was off from work at my day job for 3 weeks (on my feet for 5hrs) and 2 weeks from my night job (desk job). My left knee was still giving me a lot of problems and swelling and I recently had an MRI done and I’m scheduled to have surgery on it for the same thing on Oct 19, 2012. My doctor stated that I really need a knee replacement on both knees, but due to my age he doesn’t want to do it. He also stated that I’m going to have it done on both knees in the future.     In Oct 2009 I was stepping down from a step lost balance while wearing my Sketcher Shape Up shoes. My foot went sideways and I fell to the floor. My foot made cracking sounds. My Husband observed my fall and assisted me in getting up. I was in pain and my foot was swelling quickly. My Husband took me to our local Emergency Hospital. XRAYs revealed a fracture in my foot resulting in a cast, lost time at work among other issues as a result of my fall.

    I did not attribute the fall to my shoes as I had not heard of any injuries resulting from wearing them.

    Some time after my foot healed I began walking in my shoes for exercise and in May of 2012 I began having pain in the ankle of the same foot I had broken. I now live with continual pain and swelling of what appears to be my achilles tendon.

    Yes I bought Sketchers shape ups hoping it would make my life easier but it did the opposite. I wore them for about a month at work which is a factory and I started to notice my ankles was hurting me really bad. So I stopped wearing them and about a couple months later my ankles got so bad that I had to go to the foot doctor. They said I somehow tore 3 ligaments in my left ankle and I had to get a 20,000 dollar surgery. Luckily i had insurance. Now my right ankle is doing the same thing and i have got to do surgery on it.     In June 2012 I begin to have swelling in my left foot with pain running along the side and top of my foot. On June 5, 2012 while volunteering at our church office I ran form one building to another and when I reached the office the foot was swollen severely. When I saw the physician for my physical exam I told her about the foot swelling and the pain I was having, she directed me to have my first x-ray which showed I had a severe sprang and pulled ligaments. She started me on exercises to do in the home. In July as I was preparing to leave on vacation, I received a phone call from the doctor’s office to let me know I have a hairline fracture across the top of my left foot and to wear shoes with good support, which I did all through out vacation. While gone on vacation I had lots of pain and swelling of the foot! Upon my arrival home, I was instructed, by the doctor, to get a soft cast and another x-ray. I started wearing the soft cast on August 2, 2012 and to date still wearing the soft cast. On September 13, 2012 I had an MRI to check for soft tissue damage, which came back normal, thank God! On September 20, 2012 I begin my first session with Physical Therapy, the evaluation and check for motion on the foot. I see a therapist on Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week and will do this for 5 to 6 weeks while doing the exercises at home as well. While with the doctor she asked me what type shoe I wear I told her I wear my Shape-ups which she said STOP wearing those things! she told me what she thought started the foot problem as I thought I had done it by running.     These shoes are hazardous. I fell in them several times . I turned around in a store while wearing them and had to catch onto the clothes rack to keep from falling down. One day , I turned my ankle over and sprained it badly at my house when I stepped down my steps. I had to wear a gauze/ wrap for several days until the swelling went down. I had to stay off of it at my home. I was happy it was not broken or worse. There is no heel on the bottom sole . It is not good for walking in ; it has no heel to balance you. Its like you are constantly trying to balance yourself in them. And like your on a rocker all the time. These shoes make you off balance and does not do what it claims to do. They just make your ankles, legs hurt and makes you off balance. I still have these shoes and I would like to get my money back some way or another. They were around $ 149.00 and they should be a better shoe than that for the price. These are bad shoes...........PERIOD>>>> :(

    On October 1, 2011 I was wearing the Skechers Shape Ups sneakers and I fell. My knee was pretty banged up and I went to the emergency room. I tried to limp around for a few days but it was pretty deep and the excess flesh started dying. I have diabetes and the wound became infected. I had to stop working, keep my knee elevated and go for wound care at the hospital. They had to debride the wound a couple of times to get rid of the dead flesh and allow new healthy flesh to grow. At first I was allowed to work from home a few hours but then work disallowed that. I wasn’t able to return to work until November. It was a long complicated healing process, it took until Thanksgiving time for the wound to finally close. I have been putting special creams and vitamins on the scar to reduce its visibility, but it is still very noticeable.

    I had seen Skecher Shape-Up Shoes advertised on lV and in Magazines for helping with weight loss and muscles tone and to improve your posture as well as to improve blood circulation and reduced knee stress and joint stress firm calf muscles tone thigh, buttocks and strengthen and tighten abdominal muscles. So being a little over weight I wanted to try a pair to see how well they would work for me. Along with the shoe came a DVD and instructions which I watch and followed all the warm ups and off I went. The shoes are advertised as being able to wear everyday all day . I was a CNA and Mediation Technician and was on my feet about 12 hours a day. So doing as much walking as I did in a day the shoe were very unsafe unlike it was advertised as. It says getting into the routine the rock and roll stretches calves, hamstrings and Achilles tendons and the roll and rock and roll also does the same, however wearing these shoes on a daily basic I ended up twisting and falling off the shoes and tearing my Achilles Tendons and had to have surgery to replace two tendons in my left ankle and now I have extreme pain swelling and nerve damage. I have done physical therapy for 3 months and have had some results but still have permanent damage to the foot and ankle. Now I will be having to have a nerve block done as a result of this as the pain is extreme and it is hard to walk now. And as a result I was fired from my job because I could not perform my duties any longer.

    I purchased a pair of Skechers Bella Ballerina shoes for my daughter. The shoes have a spinner under the ball of the foot that allows the girl to spin like a ballerina. However, when worn, the spinner causes the ankle to spin too far when the foot is planted during running. My daughter was fortunate that her fall did not result in a break. But, the shoes cannot be worn again due to safety issues and because the shoes were worn, they cannot be returned.

    Okay 2nd try. As I was saying, the Skecher shoes burned the tops of my feet. There was a stamp inside the shoes with writing which I found while investigating the shoes.     Consumer wore skechers shape ups for 9 months/everyday. I had bought two pair brown walking shoes. I hit critical mass when both feet felt like they were on fire and I was walking on sharp stones. I could barely walk at all.. My feet collapsed tendons, ligaments and structurally and smashed out in length to a size 11. I have been a 9-9.5 for 40 years. I thought that I might end up in wheel chair because of my feet. I also fell, face planted, and should have broken my nose and teeth and knee caps and wrists while spraining an ankle or two. God was in charge of that one. My toes were like hanging unstructured jelly. My feet are now contracting back to their original size, but they are not the same, not at all. My lower back hurts on my right side and spine began to click near the coccyx on my left side and now it hurts and cause pain and stiffness all the way up including neck. My right knee is giving out periodically. By the grace of God, I am learning to walk again. I will be okay, I am strong.I didn’t have any of these problems before I wore these shoes. I am sure that many who bought these shoes that were already compromised with arthritis or other complications like diabetes which already runs the risk of Charcot (which both of my feet were closely mimicking) may be long term of permanently disabled. I don’t want any money. Save it for those that are really severely injured. This is NUTS! We conquered shoes that don’t hurt people thousands of years ago. We have to treat each other better than this! These shoes were computer designed, marketed for money based on greed and I bet, never tried and tested on real humans. Shame on all of us. Human thoughts and designs, done by human brains to better human life and all life on the planet. We need to get there.

    I was walking to my sink in the kitchen like normal and I heard a “pop” in my foot. I went down to the ground in pain and could not get up on my feet. I went to an urgent care center, where they said I had a “sprain”, and sent me home with an air cast. I lost two plus weeks from work due to my injury. 5 months later my foot is still very sore; I can barely move my toes up and down sometimes, and I tend to favor it...I limp all the time now and cannot wear any type of heels at this point.     I am a very active person. My husband and I like to walk for health reasons. I had purchased a pair of Sketcher Shape-Ups toning shoes, and decided to wear them on a walk in February of 2012. They come with a CD to inform you of how to adjust to wearing them. I complied with all that was required. However, after our 1 and 1/2 mile walk, initially I seemed to be okay, but the next morning I could not straighten my legs to get out of bed. From that day forward, I constantly have trouble with my legs cramping to the point I can’t get out of bed to stand or rise from a sitting position without help. I am in some degree of constant pain daily. At times it is extremely painful, as though the muscles in my legs are ripping. To date, I have seen three doctores, had an MRI, and had 19 physical theraphy treatments. I am scheduled for a follow-up on Aug. 22, with the doctor . These shoes are unsafe. They have caused people to fall and other physical injuries such as mine.

After a few weeks, my knee began hurting. After a few Weeks, it was very painful to walk. After two doctors meetings, shots and a MRI, torn meniscus was diagnosed. Both of the meniscus were tom.     Around 1100, July 25, 2012 I was walking on the walking path at [REDACTED]. I set out to walk completely around the lake on the path which is 5 miles. I walk around the lake on a regular basis for exercise. At the time I was wearing Skechers Shape Up shoes which I purchased around February 2012 at the [REDACTED]. After walking around 3.5 miles of the 5 mile path around [REDACTED], my left ankle suddenly bent over completely to the outside and I fell to the ground experiencing extreme pain in my left ankle, right knee, the palms of my hands and my left side. Unable to continue due to the extreme pain, I waited there about 20-30 minutes. By this time my left ankle was visibly swollen and bruised. Given no other choice I forced myself to to walk through the pain slowly on my left heel back to my vehicle. It took around 2 more hours to walk the final 1.5 miles to my vehicle. On July 26 I went to my medical clinic. The physician ordered X-rays which revealed my left ankle was broken; however it was too swollen to applyh a cast. They wrapped my ankle, gave me crutches and [REDACTED] for pain and told me to go home and elevate my leg and apply ice to reduce the swelling. I was told to report to the orthopedic clinic on July 30, 2012 at the Fort Belvoir Community Hospital. I was seen at the Orthopaedic Clinic, Fort Belvoir Community Hospital. My ankle was still too swollen to be casted. They applied a temporary cast and instructed me to return after 2 weeks and to keep my leg elevated and take percocet for pain.

    I wore skecher shape-up shoes last summer and after 3 months noticed my knees cracking and bulkling and then started to experience knee pain in first my left knee then both my knees. I have difficulty walking distances and going up and down stairs. After serveral visits to the orthopedic specialist, cortizone shots, Xrays, and finally an MRI it was discovered that I had torn miniscuses in both knees. I have to have an operation on both knees to repair my torn ligaments. I never had problems walking or going up and down stairs before wearing the sneakers.

    After wearing a pair of sketcher shape-ups for work (waitress) for approx. eleven months I developed severe pain in my right foot from my heel all the way around the outside of my foot. I could only wear sandals and had to wrap my foot to be able to work. I went to my dr. and found out that my achilles tendon was seriously inflamed and the tendon on the outside of my foot also was inflamed. She asked me what I had been wearing for shoes and I told her. She said are you aware that there is a lawsuit against those sneakers for causing exactly what you are experiencing and sometimes even more severe problems. So I want on the site and sure enough other people had reported the same problem. So here I am.

    I have been wearing the Skechers Shape Ups for a 1 1/2 years trying to loose weight without any luck. I had be walking up to 2 or 3 miles for a couple of weeks with out any knee problems, when I was at work and had gotten up went to turn the corner lost my balance and fell this was May 10, 2011. I landed on my right knee. I was hoping that I might have just bused my knee I could hardly walk, but by the next morning it was not better. I went to the Emergency Room. After x-rays the results were a knee effusion they put me on some pain medicine, steroids and a knee immobilizer. I was to follow up with my primary care doctor and possibly get an MRI. I was waiting on workers comp to help me with this but my supervisor failed to turn it in. About 3 to 4 weeks later I saw my primary care doctor and was sent for an MRI. Those test concluded in a torn meniscus and effusion. I then went to see a Orthopedic Specialist. He reviewed my test and set me up for surgery. During surgery the doctor found that I had no cartilage and it was bone on bone along with the tear and effusion. He then drilled holes in my bone so hopefully I could try to grow my own cartilage back. I was not allowed to walk or put any weight on my knee for 8 weeks. By October the doctor had sent me to Physical Therapy still using a walker and part time Cain. I had to stop therapy in middle December due my insurance I was not able to afford it any more. I saw the surgeon in January he said therapy was not working but wanted me in a brace to help with movement but I could not afford the hundreds of dollars a month for a rental brace. I am still struggling with the pain in my knee. My husband has to work my leg nightly so its not as painful for me to walk with it. I did not have any problems with my knees prior to my fall and could lead a active life, since I have fell it takes more effort to get small things accomplished. The doctor has also told me I am no longer allowed to walk or run for exercise if I do I will end up with a total knee replacement. Also my primary care doctor will no longer let me take any steroids for inflammatory problems.

    I purchased Skeechers toning shoes from Costco and this February started walking and on the 14th, I experienced pain in my left foot while walking. I continued to walk and it kept getting more painful. It hurt so bad I wasn’t able to put any pressure or weight on it for 5 weeks. Once it felt better I resumed my walking and on May 8th I sprained my ankle and it caused me to fall and I scraped up my left knee and sprained my right ankle. I was about 3 miles from home so I had to walk on it the rest of the way home. I just began walking again on the 16th of this month but NOT with the Skeechers! They felt comfortable, but I feel they place my foot in an unstable/safe position when I walk. I am 63 and have always walked for exercise and have never injured my feet like I have since I started wearing these shoes. I hope this prevents others from using them and hurting themselves.

    Bought sketchers shapeups in January 2011. Wore them for about a month. I had so much pain in my left heel that I could barely walk. For a year and a half I have been to 3 doctors and taken anti-inflammatory drugs and had many cortisone treatments with no relief. Currently I am wearing a big boot 24 hours a day. A recent MRI shows inflammation in the achilles tendon and the bursa of the left heel. I’m told this treatment will have to continue for 12 weeks.     I purchased a pair of Sketchers with the assurance from the salesperson they would definitely help with the muscle, nerve, and strength problems I was having with my legs. With this in mind I wore these shoes 4-5 times a week and endured extreme pain in my feet, ankles, knees, and hips. During that time I had several incinents where I lost my balance and fell, usually because of an ankle roll. The last 2 falls occured at my home and I fell on my right side causing injury to my rt ankle, rt knee, rt hip, rt wrist, rt elbow, and rt shoulder. I thought that I had only suffered minor injuries; however, my rt shoulder now has limited function and severe pain. I will be seeing my family physician for a diagnosis.     I had extensive ankle reconstruction surgery in 2009. My physician recommended that I get Skechers Shape Ups for the shock absorption until my ankle healed. I purchased a pair of Shape Up sneakers, a pair of Shapeup MaryJanes, a pair of Shape Up Sandals, and a pair of ShapeUp Anti-Skid Work Shoes. I work 40 hours a week, on my feet. After wearing the Skechers for a period of time, I began to get extreme hip and knee pain, limiting my mobility and making working extremely painful. I was put on pain medication that did not help, finally my physician said get rid of the shoes, I did and have not worn them for a few months, the pain in my hip and knee is still very real, but it is easing as the days go on.It is now easier for me to walk up stairs, Before, while wearing the Skechers I was having difficulty picking up my legs to go up a flight of stairs, as minimal as 3 stairs were painful. I wore these shoes while exercising at the local gym and I fell on the treadmill. I now have limited feeling in my left leg between my knee and ankle and to the touch it is numb. I was unable to lift it or walk without immense pain and swelling for a few weeks, not having health insurance I was unable to go to the emergency room after the fall, and was sure there were no breaks so I now live through the pain

    Had balance problems, felt like I was walking “crooked” - off balance for a while. Visited my chiro and he said the sneakers were not supportive, get rid of them.

    I then did that. As I was going down the stairs, towards the front door, I lost my balance, fell into the door and broke my wrist. Went to the emergency room, they cleaned up my chin that was gouged and should have had stitches. Set my wrist in cast and gave pain killers. Then set me up with orthopedic person to meet with. Met w/them, they reset it, scheduled surgery and then put pins in at surgery.

    The product, in the report: I fell wearing my newly bought Sketcher’s toning shoes twice. They threw off my balance numerous times. I did not break anything nor did I have serious bruises, but it hurt and I had minor bruising . Also, I had ongoing back pain while wearing these shoes for several months. At first I didn’t relate the pain to the shoes but eventually, when I wore dress shoes with a suit, I noticed my back pain was deminished, and I began to realize the shoes where the culprit. I have since discontinued wearing them. I bought two pair of the Skechers in reliance on their claims that it would improve my posture and physically improve things generally. It did the opposite. I found them hard to balance in a normal manner even after trying them for many, many weeks. My back is to this day stiff. My case is minor compared to what I read on here but nevertheless, my back pain prevented me from practicing law and performing legal work on and off for more than two weeks. I am an attorney and charge $500 per hour for my legal services. I estimate that I lost productive time (billable hours) of $40.000. I realize its unlikely that I can recover this amount, but it galls me that this type of blatant fraud was perpetrated on me and other and I wish to make a claim.

    I bought a pair of skechers shape ups January 30, 2011 and after wearing them for a little over a year I have severe ankle and heel pain my feet are swollen and the bottom of them and my toes go numb on me sometimes. There are some days when I can barely walk because the pain is so bad. I went to my doctor and he says he believes it is my achiles tendon and is refering me to a podiatrist. I never had any problems with my feet or ankles prior to wearing the shoes.

    I purchased Skechers Shape ups last summer and used them for daily walks, dog walking and shopping. From the start my hips ached when walking in them but because of the advertising I figured it was new muscles being stimulated, so I continued walking. After winter I began walking again and after about a month I began experiencing extreme hip pain, I went to Dr. and got a steroid injection to relieve what they thought was bursa pain. I continued to try to walk and the pain worsened, I could only go 10 min instead of 1+ hour. I had an MRI and it revealed tears in the labrum of both hips. I firmly believe this was caused by the shoes as I am 44 and have NO history of hip problems. I am having surgery June 20th to fix the labrum on the left hip because the pain in that one is worse than the right.

    I fell yesterday, while wearing my Skechers shoes when walking downhill with my neighbor. I was stunned when I hit my head on the roadway, and thought I had broken my hand. Today I don’t think the hand is broken, but it is sore and swollen, and I have road burn on my knees and above my eye, as well as a black and swollen eye. These shoes are lethal!! If you step on one thing out of the ordinary, you can’t keep your balance.

    The product, in the report: SN: 76853 Color Code: BLK (They dont sale this type of shoe anymore, they made a new version) The shoe is a Skechers Work type, slip resistant, black, lace up, and low top working shoe.

    I tore my calf muscle and ruptured my achilles tendon in my right leg which caused me severed pain, splint on my leg, and rehab. I was wearing shape up shoes all last year and part this year at work and at work I walk 5 to 8 miles a day depending on how busy the day is. 4 to 5 days a week. My calf and ankle was hurting through august to december and one day I was running and I suffered my injury causing expenses medical bulls, medication bills, and was injured from december to march. I believe this was caused from the shoes because my calf and ankles would hurt at work only when I would have these shoes on.
