My son wore some sandals that are labeled as water shoes. Once they got wet they resulted in severe wounds to his ankles. We have had them only for a week and work four times, no issues until wet and they ripped his ankles up so bad causing ulcerations resulting in swelling and pain

We would be glad to inspect the customer’s shoes for unusual or unexpected wear if the customer is willing to provide them, but nothing about the design or materials of the referenced shoe’s outsole would create “suction.” It is important to note that footwear is subject to many different surface conditions encountered in everyday use, and that a fall such as the one reported can happen in any shoe if the user’s foot is not as far off the ground as he or she might think and the toe of the shoe contacts (even slightly) the ground in a way the user did not expect. Caller stated that the sneakers he purchased after wearing them for regular activities, they caused his heels to bleed. He stated that he had it on while walking to the store and when he returned home, he noticed that there was blood on his socks. He stated that it was minor the bleeding stopped. No medical attention was received. Caller stated that these are the slip-on sneakers which he thought would be comfortable. Caller stated that he tried to contact the company, but they were closed. Caller feels that these shoes pose a safety hazard and should be recalled.

My complaint is being filed against Sketchers Shoe Manufacturer. A couple of weeks ago, while wearing Sketchers sneakers, I suffered a dangerous fall. Unbeknownst to me, the Sketchers shoes have a rubber sole incorporated into the design which can catch, resulting in an unbalanced state for the wearer. I fell face first which resulted in a fracture to my humerus bone. Luckily, I incurred no fractures to my facial bones. I have since learned, through communications with neighbors and through the internet, that multiple other folks have suffered the same fate while wearing Sketchers shoes/sneakers. Had I known in advance of the dangers with this shoe design I certainly would have not purchased the shoes. They should be taken off the market. And if there is a pending class action suit against Sketchers for similar injuries I will gladly join the suit.

I am a 78 woman and have 3 pairs of Skechers shoes. The first pair I got years ago and wore a lot. I think they were Skechers Go Walk slip ins. Very comfortable. It wasn’t until maybe last year that I started having the problem described by many of the people who posted at this website: [REDACTED] I didn’t know the word to use to explain what was happening, but it started happening more frequently - sticking, catching on the floor (or outdoors or on carpet). I figured they were getting worn out. So I decided not to wear them outside any more. Then on March 21, 2021, I was wearing them in my kitchen (in my apartment) (on a composite wood floor) and I was exercising, doing side steps and the next thing I knew, what people describe as ‘catching the front of the shoe’ happened and I went down really hard. I landed on the floor and thought for sure I had broken something. I am sure I was in shock as I lay there for awhile and then decided I had to see if I could move and get up. I was alone and my phone was on the kitchen counter, so if I was badly injured I couldn’t have gotten help because the walls are so well insulated where I live, no one would have ever heard me screaming. It was terrifying. I was able to move myself to a carpeted area and managed to get up off the floor. I was terribly shaken and sore. I had fallen on my left side and hit the top of my thigh/hip area and my left side and left forearm, hand and thumb were starting to hurt quite a lot. Luckily I was able to walk. I iced the areas. It took several weeks for the pain to go away. At first I couldn’t even use my hand and the hip area was painful too. Then I got black and blue from my hip bone down to the middle of my thigh and my hand and arm were black and blue also. I was very lucky! I immediately threw away the old Skechers. But I already had two other pairs - one is Skechers GOGA MAX and the other newest pair is Skechers Air Cooled GOGA MAT. I have been wearing them but then noticed that the catching at the front causing me to almost trip happened with those too. I figured it was just me, but I wondered if anyone else had this problem. Today, when it happened, I [REDACTED] “Skechers fall” and found this site and I am really angry to know this has happened to other people! I could have broken my hip or hit my head! I’m not sure what to do about this now that I know I am not the only one. I know I will not continue to wear my Skechers, much as I love them and will not ever buy them again. I shudder to think of myself and how many countless others have injured themselves and may not know how dangerous these shoes are.

I purchased a pair of Skechers shoes in Hawaii and wore them with a pair of no show socks. The socks did not cover the tops of my feet. When I removed the shoes at the end of the day, I discovered chemical burn marks on the tops of both feet in the exact pattern of the shoes where my skin had direct contact with the shoe fabric.

The product, in the report: Sketchers Super Z childrens sneaker, blue in color. I have pictures but unable to load them to this report. I can email them upon request.

A fire occurred in an apartment on Friday Dec 27. The cause was determined to be the malfunction of a Sketcher brand children shoe that lights up. The model of the shoe is “Super Z”.
The shoes were left at the front door and only entry/exit from the 2nd floor apartment. It appears the battery overheated or malfunctioned causing the shoe to get hot and eventuality catch fire destroying the shoe and burning the carpet. The occupants were alerted by the hallway smoke detector and were able to escape through the 2nd story bedroom window with the assistance of the Fire Department.there were no other sources of ignition in the area of origin and the only remains of the shoe was partial heal and melted battery/wires.

We bought the Energy Lights: E-Pro - Street Waves Bluetooth shoes from the SKETCHERS brand for our 3 year old son. The shoes need to be re-charged via a provided USB cable. We used the cable only for about the 8th time only to notice a burnt smell about 30min later. The shoe hat started melting away leaving a burn in the sole as well as our carpet. If no one had been home, this would have led to disaster.
Note that this happened in our home in [REDACTED], however, we bought the shoes in the US shortly before moving overseas.

I purchased the Skechers Vigor 2.0 Trait shoes on November 6, 2017. I did not have any incident with the shoes until I would walk on a slightly wet floor. Each time, without fail, I would nearly slip and fall. Although the shoes would appear to have good quality tread, any wet condition makes the shoes slippery. If I were an older person or someone with a balance problem, I could easily see a bad fall. This is very bad since the shoes are athletic shoes. I have discontinued to use the shoes, but I do not want to give the shoes to anyone for the possibility of injury. I have contacted Skechers about this problem on January 4, 2018, but they only told me that they would contact their research department about the problem. This product should be taken off the market.

Skechers GoWalk3 - Incident with shoes Tuesday, September 19, 2017 I was at the [REDACTED] approximately 11:30A and was walking on the linoleum flooring by the gates for [REDACTED] and suddenly my shoes came to a sudden stop and I fell to my knees. A passerby saw the incident and assisted me. She stated to me I noticed you have those Skechers with the suction like bottom sole that same thing happened to me. My knees were bruised along with my ego (very embarrassing). As I loaded the plane the Flight Attendant greeted me with “how are you doing today?” and replied “wish I was doing better but fell in the airport” and she looked at my shoes and said the same thing had happened to her with those type of Skechers. I have worn these shoes at the park walking my dogs on concrete, carpeting, laminate flooring but when I was walking on the linoleum flooring they were sticking. After the incident it happened a couple more times where they got stuck (nothing sticky on the floor or water) but I was conscious of it but very nervous. I thought I should bring this your attention now that I am back at home so no one else will get hurt like me. My knees are still bruised and aching. I will heal but I am thankful that nothing more serious happened. This same email was sent to [REDACTED]. I received a response from [REDACTED], Customer Service on 9/25/17 and stated that they would check the surveillance video. I have not received a reply from Skecher except for an automatic reply “This is an automated email to confirm that your inquiry was successfully submitted to our customer service team!”

The product, in the report: Sketchers pink memory foam gym shoe

Recently, I purchased a pair of Sketchers Memory Foam gym shoes to work out in. After running one day, I sustained severe blisters and pain to the back of my ankles as a result of wearing the shoes.
I’m extremely disappointed by this as aside from the blistering, I loved the shoes! The memory foam gave me the needed support and the style and color were simply darling!
Unfortunately, I will have to discontinue the use of this gym shoe because the pain and discomfort is far too great! I believe that their is a flaw in the engineering of the shoe when it comes to the inside back where the ankle aligns.
Please offer assistance in resolving this matter.

The product, in the report: Skechers on the Go Shoe, off white with blue stitching, blue anchor on side of shoes and included a pair of white laces and blue laces. On the side of the heel is printed Resalyte. The insoles are a bright pink with gogomat printed on them.

I recently purchased a pair of Skechers shoes before going on vacation. Several times while walking I almost tripped. It seemed as if the shoe grabbed onto the pavement like a suction cup. On July 5th I accompanied my husband to the [REDACTED] Hospital for a doctors appointment and as we were leaving the office and walking down the corridor my left foot suddenly grabbed the floor and I went face first onto the floor. Fortunately, I was able to prevent hitting my face and head but did suffer a very bad fracture to my humerus. I’ve been told I will never have full use of right arm again which is devestatlng to me because I am right handed and due of a prior Injury years ago I no longer have full use of my left arm. This past Sunday I was speaking to a friend and she told me the same thing happened to her. Her foot stopped short and she fell off her deck and she too was wearing the Skechers shoes. Yesterday, my husband was telling an acquaintance about my accident and she stated the same thing happened to her mother who was also wearing Skechers. All three of us stated how comfortable the shoes were but think they are extremely dangerous. If you would like the names of the other two women let me know and I will ask their permission to add them to this complaint.

(2/23/16) The consumer was walking in the school hallway when she fell forward and landed on her face. The consumer states that she tried to move her feet forward but her feet wouldn’t budge. The consumer was taken to the emergency room at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, located at 1945 NJ-33, Neptune City, NJ 07753. The consumer sustained a laceration above her right eye and required 5 stitches. The right side of the consumer’s face is bruised. The consumer had the shoes on for about 8 hours before the incident occurred.
The consumer states that she had a similar incident in November of 2015. The consumer was in the school cafeteria. The consumer was turning around and fell backwards hitting the back of her head on the door frame. The consumer was taken to the emergency room at Ocean Medical Center, located at 425 Jack Martin Blvd, Brick, NJ 08724. The consumer sustained a laceration on the back of her head and required 7 staples.
The consumer states that she has fell a few times in her home but just figured it was accidental trips. During her recent visit to the hospital a nurse told the consumer that she also had a similar incident and she felt like the shoes kept her feet from moving. The consumer now realizes the sneakers are the reason why she has been falling and believes they have a poor design.
The consumer began wearing the shoes in September of 2015.
The consumer plans to contact the firm and request that they remove the shoes from the market before someone gets killed.
The consumer feels this product should be researched to find out why it doesn’t allow your feet to move, causing injury. Also, they should come with a warning or should be taken off the market. [REDACTED]

This caller is reporting that she purchased athletic shoes online through .com in 2010 estimated month of June.
She was wearing these shoes in August 13th, 2010 while walking through a parking lot, she believes that the shoes threw her off balance and she fell on concrete.
She managed to get up with her husband’s assistance but when the pain continued to worsen her husband drove her to the Roper St. Frances Hospital emergency room where she remained 1 1/2 to 2 hours until she was diagnosed with meniscus tear to right knee.
Microscopic surgery was performed sometime in September 2010, however when that was not successful a knee replacement surgery was performed October/November 2010.
She was allergic to the knee replacement surgery was performed to place a different knee implant in 2011.
The second surgery was successful.
Her lawyer contacted the manufacturer but date of contact is unknown.

On Saturday morning December 19, 2015 I wore the Sketcher Go Walk shoes. The floors in my house are all hardwood. As I walked in the kitchen the shoe gripped the floor as I kept walking and I went down on my right knee. I immediately got up hoping nothing was broken. I was lucky that it was only a bad bruise. This shoe has a tendency to grip tile, hardwood and any smooth surfaces. I believe it should come with a warning label. I will never wear the shoes again.

The product Sketchers shape up sneakers: I was using the product as described in the CD and pamphlet that was provided with the sneakers. I was severely injured with a compression fracture of my spine which will be a life long injury that affects my daily life living and alters my life personally, professionally and socially. This hazardous incident occurred while I was doing the exercises depicted on the material provided from the Sketchers company, I was doing these do become healthier yet in reality it has created an injury that has brought negative and painful changes to my life.

After wearing Skerchers Shape-Ups I experienced extreme pain in my right foot. Test showed two fractures. After treatment to heal my foot I continued to wear the Skerchers Shape-Ups not realizing the Skerchers were causing a problem. I started to experience pain in my right foot again. More test revealed two new fractures. I was forced to wear a cast for it to heal and told to discontinue use of the Skerchers Shape-Ups.

The product, in the report: Sketchers Shape-Up Tennis Shoes - Black & White with elevated soles in the back supposedly to improve body & legs

July 3, 2010, was filling up with gas at [REDACTED] in El Campo & stepped to put the hose back into holder when my left foot rolled over to the side. I was wearing the Shape Ups from Sketchers. My foot cracked in several places but it being a holiday weekend, there was nothing opened but the ER. I hobbled around all weekend and went to the foot dr. in Houston on Monday. X-Rays showed it was broken in 4 places. I was placed in a boot for 9 months when it finally healed. Almost a year later on July 10,2011, I was walking out of the house & as I stepped off the front step, my right foot did the same thing my left foot had done- it rolled over on it’s side but it broke only two bones this time. My doctor in Houston had moved and closed her office down when she left, so I went to another foot doctor in Bay City, Tx. I wore a boot for 9 months but my foot would not heal so I had to have surgery & then would wear the boot for another 2 months. I heard the infomercial about the Sketchers causing problems with feet so I filled out the appropriate forms and sent them in. I spent two years of my life wearing boots and hobbling up the stairs in our two story home instead of improve the appearance of my legs and body as the commercials for the shoes had advertised. Not a very safe product for me to be wearing is all I deducted from all my medical expenses!

The consumer wore the shoes at work everyday between July, 2010 and July, 2011. His feet started to get sore but he kept wearing the shoes. The consumer had to go to a foot doctor and found out that his feet had caved inward. The consumer had to have corrective surgery. A month later the consumer returned to the hospital because of chest pains. He stated that there were blood clots in his legs as a result of the foot surgery

The product, in the report: Shoe Type: Sketchers Shape Ups Style: #52004 Color: NVSL

I sustained severe calf damage while wearing Sketchers toning shoes. I was in my boxing class, we were in the middle of a cool down sprint, I turned so I could sprint the other way when I heard a loud pop, I immediately fell to the floor as I was unable to bear my own weight. I was unable to stand or even walk without assistance, my leg started bruising immediately. My girlfriend drove me to the ER there the doctor took some X-rays, MRIs, I was informed that my calf had ruptured. Within 24hrs I had large blisters forming where I had sustained the injury. The following day my doctor called me he had reviewed my X-rays all he said was he wanted to see me immediately, Upon arrival to his office he informed me that I had DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) he place me on blood thinners and I was bed ridden for a couple of months. The injury I incurred while wearing the shoes left me with scar tissue and nerve damage.

I bought a pair of Skechers Tone up’s Shoe Store 2010. And they made me fall two time and once down my basement steps. And second time in my drive way. The shoes rock up and down. They started to hurt back of my legs and my right heel. I went to a foot doctor, I had shots and cask on, and the doctor sent send me to a surgeon. He gave shot in the heel and I had X Ray and MRI then surgery on 04-25-2012 and then the tendon grown on my skin so surgery on 06-27-2012.

After 2 months of wearing the shoes the consumer began feeling pain in her left foot. The consumer would wear the shoes at least 5 times a week for approximately 8 hours a day. The consumer went to see a physician after the pain became persistent. The consumer’s physician took an x-ray of her left foot and referred her to see a podiatrist. The consumer was referred to Doctor [REDACTED] and he recommended that the consumer have a MRI. After reviewing the MRI results Dr. [REDACTED] advised the consumer that she had broke a bone in her left foot and was damaging her tendon. Dr. [REDACTED] recommended that the consumer go to surgery.
On 07/01/10 (estimated) the consumer had surgery at Kennedy University Hospital, located in Washington Township New Jersey. The surgery was conducted by Dr. [REDACTED].
The consumer states she still had pain in her left foot after surgery and has needed injections of steroid in her left foot. The last time the consumer had an injection was 08/2014 (estimated).
The consumer feels that the shoes caused the injury to her foot.

i suffered my injury due to the unstability of the shoes. i was walking down my drive way and step into a whole when i did the shoe on my right foot rolled out from underneath me n i feel. when i feel my ankle twisted underneath me and i ended up braking my ankle in three different spots and dislocated my right hip and broke my right eleventh rib do to falling in the shoes. so the shoes themselfs are very unsafe and still to this day im still having problems with the hip and with the ankle due to it.

On approximately January 21, 2012 I was at a Christmas Party wearing Sketcher’s Shape Ups. I twisted my right knee and heard a “POP”. I was unable to walk normally. I went to Urgent Care and discovered I had torn my meniscus. A Meniscus repair was performed approximately February 28, 2012.
On approximately July 3, 2012, I was talking to a co-worker and went to go back to my cubicle I heard yet another “POP” and “SNAP” in the RIGHT knee while wearing another pair of Sketcher’s Shape Ups. I again could not walk without assistance. I went to Urgent care again and it was discovered I had torn my Meniscus again and damaged other soft tissue. I am in need of a more extensive surgery.
On approximately March 25, 2013 I was getting unto my bed stepping on a step stool wearing another pair of Skechers Shape Ups, I heard a “POP”. I went to emergency that again required me to walk on crutches. It was discovered I had torn the meniscus of the LEFT knee and disarranged my previous ACL Reconstruction. On approximately April 15, 2013, I underwent an ACL Revision, Meniscus and Tendon Repair.

I bought Skechers Shape Ups with the hopes of toning up like the product claimed. I fell a couple of times hurting my hands and knees but the worst was yet to come. One day, I was just walking around my apartment and as the left shoe rolled forward, I felt a snap and a sharp pain. I went to the doctor and found out that my toe was dislocated. I had to have painful surgery and my foot and toe will never be the same. Now, I can’t even exercise without a great deal of pain so instead of toning up, I guess I will be getting flabbier!!

On October 31, Holloween, I was at work and was performing a task that I was assignment per my Supervisor. As I was proceeding through the kitchen, while having on my Skechers slip resistant work shoes, their shape ups, I slipped an fell. As I’m going down, I hit my head on a work cart that was behind me. I tried to brace myself as I was falling backwards with both hands. Unfortunately, it didn’t help only gave me a really big knot on my left wrist. I now also have a huge knot on my left tendon.
The consumer added when she slipped and fell a cart was behind her..The consumer indicated she hit her head on the cart as she was going down.

Then my left knee started hurting. In a two week period it progressed to the point that I couldn’t bend my knee even in bed. It dawned on me that it was the shoes, so I stopped wearing them, as much as I liked them.

I was returning home from my daily walk when I stepped on sloping concrete and the Skecher Shape-up shoes I was wearing turned sideways throwing me to the ground. My left leg was broken, the meniscus tore in my left knee, sprained and tore ligament in my left ankle. I had several other falls and stumbles where I went to my knee, but on Jan 26,2012 I finally figured out the problem was the Skecher Shape-up shoes I was wearing. I will never were Skecher Shape-ups again. Thousands of dollars have been spent on doctors, hospitals, and medication and I will never walk again without pain. Skechers was negligent putting these shoes on the market and I believe they should be held accountable for their negligence.

On 6/16/2010 I suffered serious Injuries due to the instability of the Skechers Shape-Ups shoes. I broke my right leg, right arm, and torn my right rotator cuff. Due to the traumatic injuries I suffered I had to have emergency surgery. I had to have bones fussed back together with plates, pins, and screws. The pain was unbearable. This unnecessary event is something I would never want anyone else to experience.
If I had know about the hidden dangers of these shoes I would have never worn them. My efforts to have a healthy lifestyle were totally sidelined by this ordeal. My life was forever changed.
The design of these shoes is flawed, and are a known safety hazard. Please, I beg you NEVER wear these shoes!!!

When I wore the shoes , I fell down a lot and would have to go to a chiropractor.The last time I wore the shoes , I fell down and this time my leg was broken . Wearing newly purchased Skechers around apartment to get used to rocker sole. Standing at kitchen sink when phone rang. Turned quickly, lost my balance and fell on cement floor. Broke leg in two places, shattered ankle. Called 911, EMTs took me to hospital emergency room. Leg wrapped in elastic bandage. Later saw Osteopath, [REDACTED]. Had to have surgery, three day hospital stay. Rod in leg, pins and screws in ankle. Took nearly six months to heal. Ankle still swollen. Unable to wear boots or high top sneakers.

The consumer purchased the shoes in Jan 2009.
The consumer fell in Nov 2009. The consumer was going out to her car to warm the car. The consumer stepped onto her porch and fell. The consumer’s ankle hit the pole on her wooden porch.
The consumer stated that there was no ice or water. The consumer fell because of the style of the shoe.
The consumer was trying to get up after falling but because the shoes were unstable, she had a hard time. The consumer took the shoes off and went to urgent care in a different pair of shoes.
The consumer suffered right fibular fracture. They took x-rays, wrapped the ankle and put her on medication. The consumer was referred to Orthopedic. The consumer was in fracture boot for about 4.5 months. The consumer returned to work in March 2010. The consumer went through physical therapy.
The consumer is working with a lawyer regarding this incident.
The consumer still suffers from pain every now and then.

I was wearing my Skechers Shape Ups when I was walking. I felt one of my feet bend outwards and I fell. I was unable to get up from the fall due to the pain I was in. Both my feet were killing me and one of my legs. I was in incredible pain and my daughter called the ambulance. When the Ambulance arrived they rushed me to the ER. I spent the night in the ER and was told I had a total of 3 separate fractures on both legs.

I was wearing the Skechers Shape-Ups # 12381 black / pink, when I trip/ tumbled do to the instability of the shoes. I immediatily felt a terrible pain in my posterior right tendon. Iseek medical attention, I was Diagnosed with Enthesopathy of Achilles tendone with retro spur in my right heel. I have been taking medications for the pain and inflamation, also doing therapy. Since I bought the shoes I noticed that everytimes I do exercises my feet hurt a lot and I felt unbalanced, I thought, I just have to get use to the high of the shoes. I thrusted the shoes, that is why I kept wearing them almost every day to the gym and the result, me NOT been able to run or walk long distance, like I use to.

Due to the instability of the Skechers Shape-Up shoes, I fell and suffered a severe injury to my left foot and ankle. All of the tendons and ligaments were torn, and I was non-weight bearing for weeks. After that, I underwent six months of physical therapy, however, my ankle remains so weak that it is clearly visible, and I have to wear an ankle supporter in order not to fall again.

I started using the Sketchers walking sneaker (rockers I called them) when I began a walking program around the gated community where I live. After a period of time I noticed that I was experiencing rather intense pain in my thighs. This happened when I walked up and down stairs, when I tried to get out of the indoor pool using the ladder, and other times just walking in general. People started to ask me what was wrong, they said I was limping. This was at the onset an unconscious reaction on my part to apparently put less weight on the more effected right leg. But to a greater or less degree there was discomfort ultimately in both legs. I susbsequently sought medical attention. When I noticed an article about other people having problems with the shoes I stopped using them. It took a long while to heal, but after I stopped wearing them the discomfort ultimately resolved and I had to come to the conclusion that it was the instability of the shoes that had caused my injury since this was the only variable which had changed in my routines or habits.

I had to be picked up by rescue and taken to what was the Pungo District Hospital in Belhaven, North Carolina. I stayed there that night and was transported to Beaufort County Hospital in Washington, North Carolina by ambulance on 02/11/2011 where I had surgery. I have a plate and 14 screws in the ankle.

The product, in the report: sketchers shape ups, brownish colored, I do have shoes and pictures of them . they are being saved until lawsuit over. shoes were barely worn.

I suffered an injury due to the instability of the sketchers shape up shoes I was wearing on a walk. On November 8th 2012 I tore a tendon and two ligaments when I fell. I was walking on a flat surface and fell due to instability of shoes. Left ankle suffered the major injuries. I have had a lot of medical attention including surgery to build a new tendon. I lost my job over this and to this day have daily pain in both ankles from this injury, the left being the most painful. I am limited in what I am able to do each day due to injury and still not able to return to work. I can only wear two different pairs of shoes now and for only a few hours. I continue to have medical treatment. I have had MRI, X-ray, physical therapy, surgery, many doctor visits , etc. Seems to be that it has healed all it will and I now just have to live with it.

I bought a pair of SKECHERS “Shape-Ups” to wear while walking around my apartment complex as a Christmas gift, for myself, in 2010. I only wore them for my walks which I took five or six days a week. I can’t point to a specific incident, date, time, or location but my right big toe started hurting in January of 2012. When the pain didn’t clear up by itself I went to [REDACTED], a podiatrist. He ordered an x-ray which revealed a minor bunion on right foot. Since I was experiencing pain, [REDACTED] decided I should have surgery to remove it. On, April 24, 2012, I had surgery to remove the bunion. I was still experiencing a lot of pain several months later so [REDACTED] began giving me injections of cortisone in the first joint of my right big toe. These injections gave me little relief so I finally went to [REDACTED] for a second opinion.
[REDACTED] examined my toe and discussed my pain with me. He then ordered a MRI. The MRI revealed an abnormality in the cartilage in the first joint of my right big toe so I had surgery to repair the cartilage on February 8, 2013. As of November 2014, I am still in some pain and am unable to wear any of my heels. Since I haven’t experienced an accident or any other event to tie my torn big toe cartilage to, it appears the cause of the problem was the SKECHERS “Shape-Ups” because I’ve been wearing walking shoes, flats, and heels for about 60 years without experiencing any problems. Also, other than my walks, I do very little walking around the apartment and no other exercise. The SKECHERS “Shape-Ups” was the only different element in my life.

The unique design of cantilevered heel was under patent, with a leather synthetic upper, made in China. U.S. Design Patent appears under tongue of shoe: D578,890 S, D607, 188 + D615, 738 S Utility Patent Pending. The log beneath Skechers Shape-Ups on inside sole says, “SHAPE-UP WHILE YOU WALK”

I bought a pair of Skechers Shape-up Sneakers, in reliance on the promotional ads and representation that they help improve balance, strengthen one’s legs while walking and provide more beneficial exercise. Shape-ups had a unique design with cantilevered heel that creates imbalance to the wearer when walking or standing. I was told that it takes practice to get used to, which has greater benefits than the usual sneaker.
I wore them regularly as instructed, but lost my balance and fell twice. The second time I fell, I broke by right hip which required surgery, much pain, and months of physical therapy when I had to use a walker, then changed to a cane. I did not learn until later that there had been many complaints by others, and lawsuits, which may have prompted a recall of the Shape-up sneakers, and have not worn them since.

I began wearing new Skecher shoes around November 1-2,2013,walking 2 miles daily. In less than 10 weeks I was seeing a doctor for pain in my right foot. The pain soon moved to my sciatic nerve. I had many sleepless nights due to the pain and the doctors inability to assess the problem. In the mean time I had 2 epidurals to calm my sciatic nerve and took various pain medication. Around April 11,2013 my doctor told me, AFTER ITOLD HIM I BLAMED THE SKECHER SHOES I WAS WEARING, I had cracked bones in my foot along with a pinched nerve and sciatic nerve problem. The doctor recommended a boot which I wore 8 weeks. I then began to try to restore my foot and leg. (By this time I, also,had leg problems.) I joined the [REDACTED] to swim and use the exercise machines. I went to 2 chiropractors; had physical therapy;went to a massage therapist; a deep massage therapist; purchased a [REDACTED] machine, a [REDACTED] massager, an [REDACTED] machine,arch supports; and numerous pairs of costly shoes with arch support. I have ridden a bicycle many miles, mowed the lawn many times,always use the stairway,and any other exercise that forces my foot to work. Recently I have been diagnosed with an atrophied muscle in my leg.

While wearing the new Skechers, just launched, Shape-Ups on vacation, I fell and broke my left arm and clavicle. Along with major scrapes, bruises and horrible pain. I believed the hype about shaping legs and was excited to get them in 2009 for $100. Instability turned out to be a BIG issue with them! I had worn very high heels for most of my life with no problems. While walking around the high sides of the shoes along with the rocking motion caused me to loose my balance, thus falling. Any other tennis shoe would have not caused this incident. It totally ruined my cruise and I was stuck in horrible pain until we reached back to port and I could go to the emergency room. I have NEVER put those shoes back on from that moment on!!! I would HIGHLY advise anyone who fell for the hype, as I did, to NOT purchase them and, if you already have, to wear with extreme caution. They DO NOT tone your legs and you are risking your health more than actual regular exercise! BEWARE!!!

(I was wearing Skechers shape ups) I stepped out of my front door and due to the instability of the bottom of my shoes both of my legs twisted. I broke my right leg and twisted and sprained my left ankle. I went to the ER And they did Xrays and I scheduled to have surgery. So, they put in pins in my right leg. So, I had to go for 3 months with crutches and no weight on my right leg. Now I have to deal with swelling and pain.
The shoes are dangerous because of how they are designed.

Wearing Sketchers Shape-Ups toning shoes, I was at a gas station filling the car with gas. When I went to return the hose to the pump, my ankle rolled and I fell to the pavement. At the doctor’s office, and then at the hospital for X-Rays, it was determined that I had three broken bones in my foot.
I spent 3-4 months, first in plaster cast, then a walking cast, and using crutches, walker or cane part time. Finally, I was able to walk normally, though I experienced added discomfort in the foot and ankle area for several more months on any day I stood very long or walked more than a little.
Added Note: Subsequently, many-many months later, the doctor determined that I had torn and stretched tendons in that same ankle. Those facts were masked by the broken bones issues and pain initially. Since, I have experienced extra problems and easily sprained ankles due to the weakened tendons. The doctor says I can choose surgery to maybe fix this.

While walking down a flight of six stairs, the rocker bottom of my shoe jettison ed me off the second stair and I landed on the pavement, totaling missing four stairs. Medics and ambulance was called and after x-rays I went into emergency surgery for a proximal humerus fracture and now with my prominent arm I have a prothesis for my shoulder ball and humerus bone. I purchased the Skechers Shape-Up sneakers in 2009. I wore them for walking for approx. a year before developing micro tears in my right achilles tendon. This required physical therapy and ultimately surgery to repair the damage and then more physical therapy. Both my orthopedic surgeon and physical therapist agreed that the shoe was a causative factor in my injury due to the design of the show that basically has one walking on a soft, unstable, seesaw style type of sole. As a result, the shoe caused the back of my foot (feet) to extend unnaturally low beyond the the point where it would normally stop if it were hitting the ground as it would in a normal soled shoe. Consequently, this caused undue pressure and strain on the tendon leading to injury. Four years later I am still plagued with problems. My right achilles, is still weak from the injury causing me pain at times. The pain increased this past summer and as a result, I started to favor my left foot and thus put too much stress on the left achilles, which has led to tendonitis in the left achilles tendon. I am now back in physical therapy and have been for 3 months. My left achilles is not improving and I may be faced with having to have another surgery.

I sustained a broken collar bone while out walking my dogs due to wearing a pair of Sketchers Toning Shape-Up Shoes. The instability of the shoes (rocker bottom) caused me to fall and hit the street really hard. I walked home but it was 6 hours before I felt steady on my feet enough to go to the emergency room where I was diagnosed with a fractured clavicle. The Dr first gave the injury time to heal on it’s own. When it did not I was scheduled for surgery and received a steel plate and 6 pins. I was initially off work for 3 weeks then 2 more following the surgery. I then received 9 weeks of physical therapy. The entire recovery time took a year.

I suffered my injury due to the instability of the sketcher shape up shoes. When I wore them I would get sharp pains in my ankles, and legs. I was wearing them while I was walking down my basement steps and I started feeling the pains in my ankles, legs, and lower back. As I was going down the steps the instability of the shoes caused me to fall and bang my head on the concrete floor. My boyfriend bought me the shoes for toning and fitness as subscribed by the add for the sketchers shoes. i was wearing them faithfully everyday when i go on my walks. i started to have the restless legs syndrome first then pains got worse. the day my ankles started to bother me was when i fell down steps my ankles felt like they were weak an would give out on me.after i fell my haed was hurting more and more everyday. i went to the hospital because i became disillusional and dizzy. the doctor informed me that i had a subnormal hemostatga “bleeding in the brain” which caused me to have immediately head surgery. my hair was shaved off which at the time was almost to my lower back and had been growing my hair for 6 years for the cancer for kids foundation which i could not provide for them any longer because of this accident. I had to walk around bald for a year when hair started to grow back out. my family was very scared and myself at time because i could of died which was very devastating for myself,kids,parents,siblings,and rest of family. I have 4 children that depend on me and im thankful for the doctors that performed the surgery and after care in hospital. i was in ICU for a month and weeks of rehabilitation afterwards which caused me to miss work ,kid oriented school functions ,sports,and just everyday lively hood activities.

The product, in the report: Schecher Shape-ups sneakers have a rocker bottom for a sole. The bottom of the soles are very thick in the middle and taper off at the toe and heel. They change your center of gravity when walking.

I bought a pair of skechers shape-up sneakers with the rocker bottoms. After prolonged continual use my knees started cracking and I had trouble walking up and down stairs, pivoting, walking, and lifting my legs. I ended out with two torn meniscuses in my knees and had to have two operations after wearing the sneakers for one summer. Even after the operations I still have pain in my knees when bending down or kneeling.

I suffered an injury because of the instability of the sketcher tennis shoes. I was walking down a set of steps and when I stepped down my foot seemed to roll and I fell down 3 steps. I torn something in my shoulder and ended up having 4 surgeries at the same time on my ankle. The doctor cut my heel bone in half and pushed half forward, stretched my Achilles , repair torn tendons, and clean up an infection. I was in the bed for almost 3 months and still in a lot of pain.

I was wearing Sketcher Shape Up. I took a step and the shoes rolled on me. I broke my right ankle.I was taken to an E.R. I had to have surgery they had to put screws in my ankle.

(11/19/2014) Skechers USA, Inc.: We appreciate receiving this and all other information regarding our customers’ use of Skechers shoes, and are sorry to hear that this customer reported a bad experience with one of our products.
As explained in the instructional materials that are enclosed with our product, Shape-ups employ a rocker bottom sole and a soft kinetic wedge that require the wearer to exert additional effort to maintain balance. This additional effort activates muscles in the lower leg. Because Shape-ups operate on the principle of an unstable platform, users are advised to stand up straight, keep their weight centered, place their feet parallel and hip-distance apart, and walk at a comfortable pace, being sure to plant each heel firmly and roll forward on to the toes. Users are further advised to limit their use of Shape-ups to 25-45 minutes per day for the first two weeks of use, and to gradually increase usage time by 5-10 minute increments thereafter and only if comfortable to do so. Shape-ups are intended for low-intensity activities such as standing and walking, and not for running or vigorous sports. Skechers highly recommends consumers follow these and other instructions while using Shape-ups.
