The product, in the report: Samsung white front load washer
We have a front loader washer and almost with the first load washed our towels smelled musty, now we have mold on the rubber seal. Very disappointed in the design of this machine. Mold is not a good thing to have on your clothes and the smell is terrible.

The product, in the report: Samsung front load washer
In September 2010 I purchased a matching set of Samsung front load washer and dryer. At first I just loved my new appliances, but a few months of use and the washer really started to smell bad. My allergies also became much worse. I ran bleach through it and it wasn’t long and the smell came right back. I always run vinegar through it when I wash and that did not seem to help either. I went exploring one day and examining my washer and found that under the rubber seal around the tub there was black mold and lots of slimy black goo. At that time I started to leave the door open to see if that would help and still today I leave the door open or you can’t stand the smell. It has been 6 years now and I try to clean it out, but you just cannot get it all out nor can you get rid of the smell.

The product, in the report: WA7400 4.8 cu. ft. Top Load Washer with AquaJet® (White) Model Number: WA48H7400AW/A2 Serial Number: 7739Y
Washing machine had a twin sized fitted sheet, 3 pillow cases, and 2 dish towels in it. We heard a loud racket (i though someone fell down the stairs or some metal shelves had come apart and fallen?). We ran to investigate and found the washer had essentially blown apart. The top portion had separated from the metal base and rotated by ~45 degrees. The metal base casing was bent in several places. Luckily the unit was next to a wall which limited it’s mobility.

The product, in the report: Samsung washing machine white top loading
my wife put a small load of laundry in to the Samsung washer. After a few minutes, she felt what she explained to me as “a car driving into our house”, the “whole house shook. She then discovered that the washing machine had “exploded”. The top flew off the base, being held only by the plastic drain hose. there were pieces of the washing machine all over the floor. The machine jumped forward about 2 feet and turned 90 degrees. It slammed into the dryer, leaving a huge dent in the side of it. The force was so powerful, it ripped the electrical outlet from it’s screws and bent it to the side.

Hurt, no treatment Made Apr 3, 2016, sent to the company Apr 11, 2016, published by CPSC Apr 25, 2016
The product, in the report: Samsung Top Loading washing machine
During operation, the basket of my Samsung top loading washing machine broke loose from it’s mounts. This caused the machine to break into pieces. Metal part were torn, pieces of the machine were all over the utility room. It slammed into the dryer and a wall, damaging the dryer and putting a hole in the wall. The top of the machine, which was locked, flew off landing on the floor
At no time were there unusual noises or warnings from the machine. I believe the machine was in spin cycle but can’t confirm as I was not paying attention as it seemed to be operating normally.
I was hit in the leg with a piece of the machine but my bigger concern is if someone had been standing to the right of the machine they would have been seriously injured if not killed by the force of the top flying off the machine.

The product, in the report: Samsung clothes washer Model # WF218ANW/XAA Serial #W02R54AQ400974F
On March 19, 2016 I was doing laundry and heard a very loud boom sound. I went downstairs and discovered that my Samsung Washing Machine was on its side, pulled away from the wall with the door open. When I looked inside, there were broken pieces all over the machine. My clothing was stuck in the machine. The clothes were damp, but not soaked, so I assume this took place during the spin cycle. The power to the machine was off because the breaker that provides power to the washer popped. I unplugged the machine. The only conclusion I can make was that my machine exploded.

RE: Failure of Samsung/Sears Aquajet rvt Top Loading Washer Mod. #WA456DRHDSU/AA; S/N Y6BP5AEC700398L; Mfg. Date 2012.7; Purchased on 11.17.12; Purchase Price, $699.99 plus 59.50 tax and $80 delivery and haul-away fee
Summary: On January 14, 2016 my Samsung/Sears top loading washer failed, displaying an error code of “nF,” (no fill as per Samsung Error Code taxonomy). Water had discharged on the laundry room floor. An internet search led me to the Samsung Service Bulletin addressing relocation of the drain pump (ASC20131127001, Nov. 27, 2013 RE WA400, WA422 & WA456 models) to prevent its support bracket from cracking and the pump detaching (falling off its mounting), thereby releasing water from the detached drain hose that becomes disconnected upon failure and severing its power leads. This failure resulted in the main control board (PCB) arcing and melting.
Because the drain pump was mounted on the washer tub rather than on the machine frame, vibration induced fatigue results in fracture and parting of the support brackets at points of stress concentration, i.e., at the mounting screw tabs. Moreover, the rubber bushings (a.k.a., “cushions” as referred to by Samsung) fail from continual exposure to high cycle/amplitude vibration. This is clearly a design defect. Ironically, these machines are marketed as “VRT” models, e.g., having “Vibration Reduction Technology.”
On February 22, 2013 Samsung issued its first Service Bulletin (ASC2013022001) for the subject models entitled “Drain Pump Case Damage.” At that time, Samsung acknowledge damage to the drain pump case causing water leakage and called for replacement of the pump cover and mounting bushings. Then, on November 27, 2013, Samsung issued a second Service Bulletin as mentioned above calling for relocating the drain pump. As stated therein, this was done: • “To improve quality, we changed the position of the bottom of the TUB to the BASE” • “This improvement required us to change the ASSY GUIDE HOSE, ASSY HOSE DRAIN, and HOLDER WIRE SADDLE.”
In fact, relocation of the drain pump is done to rectify a basic design flaw that created a dangerous situation to the consumer. Nevertheless, to the best of my knowledge neither Samsung nor its product retailers, such as Sears, Lowes, etc., have ever issued a recall notice to consumers who bought these machines advising them of the immanent failure of the machine’s drain pump during operations and the resulting risk of flooding and fire. In my professional opinion as a fire safety expert, these machines ought to be recalled post-haste.
It should be noted that Samsung has a history of washing machine fires in both front loading and top loading machines. In 2007 Samsung issued a recall for front loading machines due to electrical induced fires from water contact (CPSC Release #07-135, March 21, 2007. More recently, a massive recall is underway in Australia and New Zealand for top loading machines. More than 144,000 (AU) and 36,000 (NZ) Samsung top loading machines made between 2010 and 2013 are subject to recall due to a pervasive and serious fire hazard. These machines reportedly have caused hundreds of fires; however, Samsung reportedly has refused to advertise the recall on Australian television.

The product, in the report: Samsung top load washing machine, model #WA50F9A7DSP/A2 with serial number Y7FH5AEF100099N in granite gray color
My Samsung washing machine was in it’s final spin, with perhaps one or two minutes left before the cycle completed. My family was in the kitchen, serving dinner when we heard a terrible noise, glass breaking and a huge bang like a bomb going off. My husband and I ran to the laundry room where the noise came from and found our machine upside down and pointed the wrong way. The tub was still attempting to spin so we quickly unplugged it before it could cause more damage or potentially catch fire. The top portion of the machine had exploded off and the glass top shattered. It was still locked as during a cycle. There was water pouring out everywhere on the floor and dripping from all four walls. The tension rods had been ejected from the bottom of the washer and the metal housing was bent and broken. Thankfully, no humans were in the room and my cat made it out without injury. There was damage to the floor tiles and to the dryer housing that sits next to the washer.

The product, in the report: Samsung top loading washer
I started a light load of wash and went grocery shopping. When I returned, the washer had exploded. It was placed in a tight area that only fit the washer and dryer. It had moved itself into a 45 degree angle. The top was raised about an inch, and the side was dented. There was water all over the floor.
We called Samsung. They sent a repairman, six days later, who said he couldn’t fix it. ( I know this explosion was not as dramatic as some I’ve read about, however couldn’t Samsung recognize a smaller explosion and know it was unfixable? ) After 22 days of bartering with Samsung, we did receive a new washer. Since receiving the new washer, I have read that these washers have a history of exploding. I am afraid to use the new washer unless I am nearby. I do not want it to explode when no one is home and cause greater damage.

The product, in the report: Samsung 4.5 CU FT TL WASH WA45H7000AW
We purchased a Samsung Top Loading washing (4.5 CU FT TL WASH WA45H7000AW) from Lowe’s in September 2014. Last week, it exploded. The drum tore off the inside, the machine rotated around, and the top of the washing machine came off. The sides of the machine were bent. It made a loud grinding noise that shook the entire house and when we went to see what happened, it was still plugged in with 5 minutes left. Water was all over the floor. The risk to personal injury to myself, my pregnant wife, or my son was high. Luckily nobody was downstairs when this happened.
We have been trying to get in touch with someone at Samsung to help and we continue to get non-specific answers, no call backs, or information that we will need to pay fees for labor, parts, diagnosis, etc. We took several pictures of the washing machine, which we can provide on request.

The product, in the report: Samsung washer. Model number Samsung WA456DRHDWR/AA-0000
the washer has a design flaw and keep breaking a part which holds the pump. it causes flooding in the house. (see details below). all the water washer takes goes directly underneath of the washer, as the tube never fills, it continues until you notice it. in my case it was soupy water and made me slip and fall on the ceramic tiles. it could happen to my children, we could get electrocuted.
I purchased a Samsung top loading washing machine about two years ago. Model Samsung WA456DRHDWR/AA-0000. The bracket that holds the drain pump to the drum got broken during a regular operation. It simply cracked/broke due to the strain on the bracket mounting points. In researching the issue looking for a replacement part what I discovered is that Samsung recognized that there was a design flaw in how the bracket was designed and did a redesign of this bracket. There is a technical bulletin describing the discontinuation of the old part and the replacement of the new. Do a Google search of ASC20130222001 dated 2/22/2013. This affects the WA400, WA422 and WA456 models.
The original bracket is part number DC63-01427A and is discontinued and out of stock everywhere. The upgraded bracket is part number DC94-03523A and is discontinued and out of stock everywhere. Samsung, later on 5/9/2013, recognized that this was still an issue and put out Bulletin # ASC20130509001, where they came out with a complete retrofit kit with new wires/hoses/brackets, etc. that moves the pump from being attached to the drum to being attached to the frame of the washing machine. Only problem with this is that they had made other design changes to these model numbers around 12/24/2012, you can tell if the machine is of the newer design due to a 01 being added to the end of the model number. The retrofit kit that moves the pump to the frame can only be done to machines made after that date or have the 01 at the end of the model number. Originally I thought my machines serial number meant that the retrofit kit would not work on my machine, but now I am not so sure due to some confusion of the affected serial numbers.
Regardless if my machine can take the retrofit kit, considering the acknowledged design flaws, and the multiple redesigns to attempt to correct this problem I approached Samsung that I was not comfortable that even if any of the possible repairs were done, old bracket/new bracket/retrofit, that it simply was delaying the inevitable failure of this part/assembly again. In my opinion this should be handled similar to how the Lemon Laws are done. What I purchased had inherent design flaws with multiple attempts at redesign over a relativity short period of time.
This product is UNSAFE. even you fix the part, it will still broke as the design flaw. i believe it must be recalled and samsung should either provide right fix or recall and replace all of them.

We had the washer next to our dryer downstairs in our unfinished basement and it was in the middle of a cycle and we heard a loud bang. The hoses and cords were still connected lucky, otherwise we might have had water damage and luckily we were home.

The product, in the report: Samsung Washing Machine. Model #WA50F9A7DSW/A2
On Monday, November 9 2015 we were washing a load of clothes in our Samsung dryer at 7:30 in the morning EST before getting ready for work and readying our son for school. We heard a loud crash and the entire house shook violently. We rushed into the laundry room to find :
- The washer had jumped out from the wall several feet - The washer had spun 120 degree to the right - The force of it exploding had caused it to unplug itself - The top of the washer had become completely dislodged from the base - The base metal sides were bent and distorted - The tub inside the machine had been dislodged, and is shattered - Metal rods holding the tub in place had either broken or bent - Electrical wires were hanging out from the back of the unity, most of them severed - Metal and plastic parts were strewn about the room
Outside of machine damage, the washer left a deep gouge in our dryer, scratched the tile flooring and also slammed into our laundry sink, dislodging it from the wall, making a hole in the drywall, which has been estimated to cost $1,100 to repair.

On Monday Oct 5, at approximately 8:15pm, I heard a violent sounding commotion coming from my laundry room. I yelled for my husband and ran to the room to find my brand new, 2 month old Samsung Activewash washing machine lying on its side, the lid completely blow off, the sides of the machine expanded outward, the internal drums now thrown behind the machine on the floor, the machine itself thrown across the room, and shards of metal and plastic lying everywhere, in addition to my floor being covered in water. The entire metal backing of the machine had flown off and was crumpled like paper, and water and flown out into the hallway floor and also floor to ceiling (8ft ceilings) on the wall diagonally across from the laundry room. Our dogs food and water stands are also located next to the washing machine, and they had been thrown about and flipped over as well. The garage door across from the washer is metal, and has multiple dents in it from the force of the metal and plastic shards exploding outward.

My Samsung Front Loading Washing Machine, Model WF219ANW/XAA01has been nothing but trouble from the day we bought it. Today, however, my dog started barking in the laundry room, then splashed her water from her bowl all over the room, to tell me the drum was on fire. This was during a wash cycle, the machine was not overloaded, and thankfully I was home when this happened. Consumer Reports is full up with complaints about this product, but no action (or remedy) has been taken from Samsung on behalf of American consumers. I won’t hold my breath waiting for Samsung to “get back with me.” But I thought you should know that one Very Smart Labrador Retriever saved some lives today. Now to get the electrical fire smell out of my house.

We have a one year old Samsung top-load washing machine with a 5.0 cubic foot capacity.
We began a load of laundry before going to bed. As the washing machine entered the spin cycle, the entire machine exploded and burst into pieces. The entire top of the unit separated and flew into our hallway, and the unit continued to spin violently around the laundry room, ripping holes in our walls, dryer, cabinets, flooring, etc.
If we had not been home, I’m not sure how long this would have continued.
Shards of metal and large peices of plastic were lodged in the walls and hurled into other rooms of the home with great force.
A quick search of YouTube indicates that this same incident has happened to several other consumers. If we had been in the room or even in our hallway at the time of the explosion, it is very likely that we would have been seriously injured or killed.

I am a safety health and environmental professional who has responded to a variety of industrial accidents / investigations. Recently I experienced an industrial level accident with my very new top load washing machine. Its a Samsung and the largest one on the market. It destroyed itself so violently that all technicians, safety professionals, engineers, and laymen are completely impressed with the level of carnage. Apparently it was doing a partial load and spinning at high speeds when it broke free, throwing itself against walls and throwing parts and water everywhere. Had someone been near by they could have been severely injured. Apparently this is a common problem as there is a law firm looking to do a class action lawsuit. See: http://www.witzerlaw.com/dangerous-defects-in-samsung-and-lg-top-loading-washing-machines
Mine shows more carnage than the ones in the link’s pictures. These should be recalled or replaced free of charge. At the moment, Samsung is trying to take my unit and give me a pro-rated refund, which I think is unacceptable. I’m both concerned for the safety of others, and irritated that they are still selling these.
I can provide pictures, even inside views if desired, along with some comical videos / comments.

The product, in the report: Samsung Washer
I purchased a Samsung Washer (model # WA456DRHDSU/AA 0001. serial # Y6BP5AEC701884L) on May22, 2013 from Sears of Lufkin, Texas. Since the purchase date, I have had to schedule several service calls for repairs-always for the same problem.
The drain pump on the washer has continuously broken, often coming disconnected from the drain hose so that water pours out the bottom of the machine. The wire connector that operates the drain function gets disconnected from the terminal during this activity, causing the unit to stop draining so that the pump is either pouring water onto the floor, or not draining the water out of the machine at all.
After four service calls and repeated attempts to resolve this annoying and now costly, issue It has become apparent that this machine and/or the drain system is faulty and that the defective unit can only be temporarily repaired before it breaks again. This proves that the warranty given on the appliance was ineffective and inefficient.
I therefore, I am requesting that the washing machine be replaced at the seller’s or manufacturer’s expense with a better quality machine, that has passed all applicable quality control tests on it’s parts and assemblies, as well as all applicable safety regulations.
This machine cannot be considered safe to operate , under the circumstances, as the faulty mechanism involving the water and the electrical connections create a potentially fatal situation for possible electrocution, and is subject to cause extensive water and or fire damage at the least.
As I am within my rights as a consumer, in accordance with the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, the Uniform Commercial Code, and the Texas lemon Law Statutes to request the replacement of this product which is also subject to numerous other product liability laws, I trust that you will consider this letter to be the first step in exercising hose rights and respond accordingly.
Sincerely yours,

The product, in the report: Samsung 4.5 cu. ft. High-Efficiency Top-Load Washer Product number WA456DRHDWR/AA
I purchased the Samsung 4.5 cubic feet washing machine WA456DRHDWR/AA in 11/26/2012. It started leaking water within 90 days and had to be serviced once and then replaced with a new, replacement model of the same type.
On 5/28/2015, the replacement washing machine started leaking in the same manner again. The machine was also gyrating wildly on the spin cycle and I was afraid that it might even tip over, such was the intensity of the gyrations. I have 2 baby daughters so this is a major concern.
After reading hundreds to thousands of consumer complaints about this model on the internet, I’m shocked to learn that Samsung has not tried to recall this product. One of the many issues with this product is that the water pump is poorly designed in terms of materials & location, causing it fail often and put water all over the floor. If I had not caught the water coming out when it did, I would’ve suffered major water damage to my house. As it stands, the tile floor on which the WA456DRHDWR/AA had already suffered from waterlogging.
I ask you to please investigate Samsung’s WA456DRHDWR/AA and encourage them to do a product recall. This is an incredibly unsafe and unreliable product. Thank you.

The product, in the report: top loading washing machine by Samsung, model #WA45H7000AW, in white, I have photos but this uploader is not working
Purchased a Samsung top loading washing machine, model # WA45H7000AW at Lowe’s on March 14, 2015. On Thursday, May 21, 2015 at approximately 6:35 AM, there were two explosions from this machine that were felt across my entire house. The first one I did not attribute to the cause of a washing machine as I never would have imagined that and thought it was some terrible thunder outside as I’d heard a weather prediction of that the previous day. Just 5 minutes later, my daughter was in our kitchen which is on the other side of the wall from the laundry room and was able to tell us that the explosion sound we’d just heard again came from that room. Upon inspection, we discovered our washer had indeed exploded not once, but twice! Very unsafe! We were so thankful no one had been in the room or that the damage to existing property wasn’t worse. The percussion blew containers of yard chemicals off of the wash sink (we’d recently been putting [REDACTED] in the yard to kill off weeds and used the slop sink to mix it), anyway those two jugs were blown off the counter and onto the floor. There was a huge dent put into the side of our dryer and water and washing machine parts all over the floor. I researched my model online as I’d only read previously reviews on the store’s website which had been good and found another report on Amazon.com review of this same model also exploding. Samsung needs to recall this item and find a fix to repair the issue before continuing to sell these dangerous items to the unsuspecting public at risk of property damage or injury to persons.

The product, in the report: Front-loading washing machine. Samsung VRT Steam
Our Samsung front-loading washing machine started to make a noise like there was gravel in it during a wash cycle. When I went to investigate, there was a lot of water on the floor, and I could see water in the glass door of the washer. When I stopped the machine and opened the door, I discovered that the glass door was broken, and two large (about 3” to 4” on the longest side) and many small pieces of glass were incorporated into the load of laundry and rotating in the drum! The glass is NOT safety glass, and although I was very careful about removing the glass, I received a minor cut on one of my fingers. The risk posed is that of someone reaching into the washer and receiving much larger cuts due to the glass.

Caller is reporting his frontload Washer caller will add this information when he receives his copy of report).
Washer was purchased from Lowe’s in Texas around August/September 2011.
Caller had no problems with this washer until around July 2014 when it began having uneven loads and shaking violently.
The consumer has had to pay to have this repaired but the washer then began exhibiting the same problem after the tech left.
The repair tech with the metal rod that goes into barrel is broken but he would have to pay more to repair this unit than it would cost to purchase another washer.
There are no injuries to report
The caller has contacted the manufacturer but has been unable to obtain assistance for repair

The machine was in its spin cycle when it began to make a loud noise. I went into the laundry room and the washer was bouncing off the dryer and the wash violently. The entire top of the unit was thrown from the washer and the washer hit the wall so hard that it went through the sheet rock and dented the dryer. Part were thrown from inside the washer. After I had a service man review the washer he stated He had never seen a machine do this. I how ever search the internet an saw numerous complaint about the Samsung top load washer and even found a youtube video on the exact same thing that my washer did. If a small child had been in this room there could could have been serious harm based on how fast and vigorous this washer was moving around.

The product, in the report: Samsung 4.2 CuFt Clothes Washer Model WA422PRHDWR/AA
I own Samsung Washing Machine Model WA422PRHDWR/AA purchased 3/5/2013. On 6/14/2014 it experienced a sudden failure of an assembly associated with the drain pump. On this model and several other Samsungs from the 2012 and 2013 time frame the drain pump was attached to the drum in a plastic housing. It appears this was a serious design flaw since the plastic housing is subject to intense stress and failure is inevitable. Samsung came to recognize the flaw in early 2013 and relocated the drain pump assembly to the frame both in newer models and as a retrofit to the original design. In my case the pump broke loose in the final 3 minutes of the final spin so only a gallon or so of water spilled out. I have read other accounts of similar failures earlier on the wash or rinse cycle that resulted in enough water spillage to cause damage to flooring, walls and fixtures in excess of $17000. I believe the failure mode of this flawed design is dangerous to consumers. Water and electricity don’t mix, and when the pump breaks loose water in the drum goes in many unsafe directions, both within the washing machine and within the consumers laundry room. In addition to reports of damage to property there was at least one consumer who found subsequent black mold after making repairs. I feel lucky I had no water damage, but I’m sure there is significant danger associated with this flawed design which will fail suddenly and catastrophically. Samsung issued 2 Service Bulletins soon after the flaw was recognized by them. Those Service Bulletins (Number ASC20130509001 and ASC20130222001) are now very difficult to find on the internet, presumably because the risk managers at Samsung want to hide any smoking guns. I know CPSC’s primary interest is consumer safety, and at first blush this flawed and defective design often will only result in inconvenience and cost to the consumer like it did in my case. When my pump broke there was no injury and loss of life. However, I believe with the suddenness of these failures and the mixing of water and electrical and electronic components it is inevitable there eventually will be reports of death or injury if there haven’t been already. I ask that you look into this and note the many similar accounts to mine that can be found on the internet. I ask that you make Samsung come clean about this dangerous problem and protect the public by performing a recall to safely retrofit the flawed design.

The product, in the report: Samsung Top Loading Washer Model No. WA400PJHDWR/AA
In mid-2012, we bought a new SAMSUNG top loading washer, model # WA400PJHDWR/AA (Ser. No. Y69Q5AEC703298R) from Lowes in Gainesville, FL for $666.85 Two weeks ago, while washing a load of clothes, we heard a loud clanging sound during the spin cycle, followed by a louder BANGING sound, after which water starting pouring out all over the floor of our utility room and adjoining family room.
We tilted the washer and saw that the drain pump assembly had broken loose from the bottom of the washing machine tub and had detached itself and the accompanying drain hose and was just dangling in mid-air. The washing machine was now unusable.
I learned from a Lowes call center rep that there were many reports of this same problem with the WA400 model SAMSUNG washers, and that SAMSUNG had issued a RECALL for Lowes-owned store assets (washers still in stock at any Lowes store or warehouse). However, SAMSUNG did not opt to issue a recall to the general public for the same problem, even though the Lowes rep was aware of 246 cases at that time (mine being #247), and that there were 155,000 affected washers. Also, some consumers had experienced “flooding damage” depending no what part of the cycle the machine was in and where it was located (luckily ours was downstairs and on ceramic tile and at the end of the spin cycle, but in some cases, washers were located upstairs or near hardwood flooring and there was significant flooding damage. Lowes did ask if this was the case for me.)
So, it was a known defect, known by SAMSUNG and now Lowes. Since the SAMSUNG washer only has a 1 year warranty, I learned I would be responsible for all repair costs, but not the parts. Armed with this information, I contacted Samsung Customer Service and filed a complaint, asking WHY they had not issued a RECALL of these known defective WA400 washers. They DENIED that there were 155,000 defective washers, as I had learned from Lowes, or that there was a significant problem, but they offered to pay for the repair cost as a one time courtesy, which I accepted.
The washer was repaired today by the Samsung rep. A whole new drain pump assembly, including the pump, bracket, hose and wiring harness were installed. The new pump assembly does not attach to the bottom of the washing machine tub, as the original OEM part did. I got a look at the SAMSUNG Service Bulletin that the technician had in his possession, and it was number ASC20131127001 and it listed models WA400, WA422, and WA456 as all being affected by this problem. So, this reassures me that the quantity of washers affected is quite large.
I have seen several complaints posted online about this same problem. 348 complaints on [REDACTED], and several on [REDACTED] and on LOWES.COM. All say the same thing - that the drain pump breaks off and floods their home and they are stuck with the repair bill and potential damage to their home. Electrocution is a possibility as well, as the wiring harness can also come loose when the pump breaks off, so if the washer were to flood an area and an unsuspecting homeowner were to step into the puddle created by the washer, he could possibly get electrocuted from 120 VAC.
I also found online reference to another SAMSUNG service bulletin ASC20130222001 dated June 6, 2013 that says the same thing as the one my technician had in hand. I found this reference onlin here: [REDACTED].
I posted multiple times on the Samsung Home Appliance [REDACTED] page that they need to issue an IMMEDIATE RECALL of all of these affected units (models WA400, WA422, and WA456), as this problem is potentially hazardous to the property of the homeowner and to life safety. However, Samsung seems to be handling this on a case-by-case basis. I did read enough of the service bulletin, and learned from the appliance repair company, that this problem affects the 3 Samsung top loading washers models listed above, manufactured from Jan. 2012 - Dec. 2012. The design was changed the 2nd week of Dec. 2012, I believe. Our washer, like thousands of others was manufactured in July 2012, and purchased on Sept. 1 2012. It is 17 months old.
PLEASE REVIEW THIS SITUATION AND CONTACT SAMSUNG. My washer is now repaired, but the problem here is that there are THOUSANDS of other newer SAMSUNG washers out there that will very likely fall apart from regular normal use and can flood and damage the consumer’s home. Also, many consumers start a load of wash and then leave to go run errands (as we have done). We were lucky - we were at home when ours broke apart and started flooding the floor.... Others might not be so lucky.
Ironically, Samsung’s corporate model is this: “At Samsung, we follow a simple business philosophy: to devote our talent and technology to creating superior products and services that contribute to a better global society.” Where their washers are concerned, they have fallen far short of this mark!

On 1/13/14, we began to wash a load of clothes. In about 5 minutes, water began running underneath the Washer. The code nf was displayed on the panel indicating an obvious problem. Upon investigating the issue, we took the back panel off the Washer and discovered that a clamp holding the mount for the pump had fallen off. This had in turn caused the pump to fall off and water leaked from one end of the pump. This was on the end where the wastewater emptied into the sewer pipe. After buying a new clamp a few days later, we ran another load of laundry. Then the same thing happened but this time another clamp fell off causing water to run out from the other end of the pump. Before the water ran out, the washer was in the spin cycle and was running rough and it was very loud. We replaced the clamp and ran another load of laundry a few days later. This time, the washer was in the spin cycle and was running rough and it was very loud. We stopped the wash cycle to avoid water leaking onto the floor again. This caused a safety hazard because electrical wiring was in the area where the water ran onto the floor.

The product, in the report: Washer
The caller reported that he is repairing the front load washer. The tumbler is supported by a 3 legged bracket, the bracket disintegrates into dust, the material is made from pot metal which after a period of time rots. The chunks from the bracket get lodged between the tumbler and enclosure which causes a leak and allows the unit to flood. The tumbler has not break apart as yet.
The washers are designed from poor material which causes water to flood the unit and interrupts the electrical system which can cause electrocution.

I have a Samsung washer that I purchased an extended waranty on. Among other things, a horrible, moldy smell was coming from the washing machine, even though I always leave the door and the soap door both open to prevent this. I cannot find the source of the smell, but we have horrible allergies to mold. We called in the extended warranty, and a technician came out. He said it was normal. He moved around the machine a bit to level it out because it was shaking really bad during the wash cycle. He said there was nothing he could do about the smell. He must have moved something around because now the mold smell is 10x worse. It permeates through the entire 1st floor of the house. We can’t smell anything in the house but mold, no matter what we do. Running bleach through the cycle helps only temporarily. We can’t live with this amount of mold, but the repair guy says our warranty doesn’t cover mold. Now, we’re out of warranty, even though we were under warranty when we called him.

The washing machine is in a landry room on the main floor of my house - there is a finished basement below. I emptied the washing machine on on the morning of 07/27/11 and left the door open as recommended by the installer. When I came home from work on 7/28/11 at 5:30, the glass from the door was on the floor in front of the washer. There is a perimeter of glass still attached to the door. It ranges in size from 2 inches in places to almost 5 or 6 inchies in other places. I have 1/4” tempered glass all over my laundry room floor. Pieces range in size from slivers to approximately 6” x 10”. Nothing fell on the door to cause it to shatter. The machine was not running at the time. I did not notice any cracks or puncture marks in the glass prior to the incident. I can think of no logical explanation as to why the glass would fracture and why in the manner in which it did (unless there was an unnoticed defect in the material). Had I been in the area, or a family member, someone could have been seriously injured.
