No one hurt Made Dec 4, 2020, sent to the company Dec 28, 2020, published by CPSC Jan 12, 2021
The product, in the report: Samsung Washer Top Loader, white, purchased from Home Depot on 9/6/16.
My Samsung washing machine that was previously recalled and supposedly fixed basically almost blew up. The whole metal frame bent during a wash cycle, along with the top of the washing ejecting from the secured bottom. Luckily a screw kept the whole thing from flying off. I was using the product and truly thought a car had hit our house with how much it shook and the noise it made. No injuries luckily. I have contacted Samsung and no one will call back. They will “text” and basically told me to run a rinse cycle to see if the noise happened again. I told them my washing machine practically ejected and blew up and that was impossible. They then told me after I had asked to speak with someone over the phone multiple times that this is not possible. And also said the recall was settled. Clearly it wasn’t fixed. I finally got a service request out and it said someone would contact me in 2 business days. 5 business days later no contact and an email saying my service request was cancelled. This washer could do serious injury or damage if the 1-2 screws did not re secure the top down. Instead it just bent the whole frame.

The product, in the report: Samsung top load washing machine Model WA50F9A6DSW/A2
2015: There is a plastic piece in the bottom of the washer’s drum, which broke during the first week. This was tearing up the consumer’s clothes. She contacted the company and they sent her a bag of replacement bolt covers. The consumer has applied them over the years, but she is down to her last one. The consumer said this item tore up several pieces of their clothing. However, she said the new washers have a different design.
2015: The washer gave off the NF error code. Sometimes the washer would balance itself and other times, it would not work until some time (hours or days) passed. When the load has been unbalanced the washer moved out of place.
The consumer is afraid to use the washer now.
11/2020: The consumer called the firm and a rep. tried to trouble shot the issue with her. None of the steps that the consumer tried worked. The double check the consumer’s model & serial information and told her the washer was recalled. The rep. referred the consumer to the recall hotline.
11/30/2020: The consumer called the firm’s recall Hotline (CAP# 17-028), Tel: 866-264-5636. The rep. told the consumer that the washer was manufactured in 2013 and the warranty expired in 2014. The rep. then offered the consumer $7.00. The consumer asked her what kind of washer she could be purchase with $7.00. The rep. said exactly and advised the consumer to purchase a new one.

The product, in the report: Samsung Activewash with Built-In Sink 4.8-cu ft High-Efficiency Top-Load Washer (White) ENERGY STAR Model: WA48J7700AW/A2 Serial: 0E6E5AUH406980Y
On June 11, 2020, our Samsung with ActiveWash sink was doing a spin cycle with laundry in the wash, and exploded during that cycle. No one was in the room when it happened, but my husband heard a loud thud, and came into the garage to find the washer 5-6 feet away from the wall. The washer lid came off completely and landed on a saw table upside down next to the washer, the drum top ring came off, and the washer knocked a shelf off of the back wall and a damaged a laundry hamper, in the process. The washer also damaged the dryer (also a Samsung) in this process. Both the washer and dry are damaged, with major dents in the machine’s outer encasement.

The product, in the report: Samsung front loader washing machine in white manufactured in 2016
Bought the house in 2019 and the washing machine was left with the house. It constantly smells of mold. I have called samsung numerous times and they keep telling us to clean it by putting bleach in the detergent compartment and run it 7 times. We have done this and it does not solve the problem. Samsung said since the washer is no longer under warranty anymore they can’t help us with this matter. However, if we buy an extended warranty they will gladly help us with this issue. The clothes constantly smell of mold and it aggravates my allergies. We have a nine month old baby and she is wearing clothes that smell of mold. I have repeatedly cleaned the washing machine with bleach and run the self clean cycle. Nothing seems to help this problem. I also leave the door open all the time to make sure there is no extra moisture left in the machine.

The product, in the report: Samsung Washer Model WA50F9A6DSW/A2
I have a Samsung WA50F9A6DSW washer that was included in the home when we purchased it in July 2016. It is located in the garage.
We started a load and were in the family room when we heard a loud bang. The washer had twisted and moved (about 6 inches) and the sides were dented. We could not see any other damage.
When we ran the next load the washing machine flooded into the garage.

No incident, no one hurt Made Jun 30, 2020, sent to the company Nov 18, 2021, published by CPSC Dec 3, 2021
The product, in the report: Top load washing machine with glass top
The consumer was washing 2 queen size sheets (1 top and 1 fitted) and 2 pillow cases, when she began to hear a loud noise. She opened the door to her laundry room and saw the washer shaking so violently that some ends were lifting off of the floor. The washer crashed into the laundry room door and caused damage. It may have also caused damaged to the wall in the laundry area.
The 76 years old, 61” tall, consumer leaned over the washer to unplug it from the wall outlet. As she leaned over it, the top separated and hit the consumer in her chest. The consumer was able to unplug it from the outlet and it stopped operating. The washer is so severely damaged that the consumer cannot open the top lid.
The consumer looked through glass lid and saw that the washers drum had separated from the internal parts that hold it in place. The top portion separated from the bottom of the machine in the exact same manner described in CPSC Recall 17-028. The bottom portion of the washer is twisted and bent.
There is a plastic cover behind the control panel, which is cracked and broken and it was not damaged prior to the incident.
There is a dryer beside the washer, but because they are so close together, the consumer cannot tell if its damaged or dented
NOTE: 10 Warranty Direct Drive, is written on the lid of the washer.
At the time of the report, the consumer was unable to move the washer to see the model and serial number. The washer was already in the home, when the consumer moved in 10/2019. She and her husband stayed in the home for 2 weeks and left. She and her husband returned to the home in March 2020, so it has not been used much.

The product, in the report: Samsung Washer Model 52m775
I opened the lid to our Samsung top-loading washer (Model 52M775). The left spring that holds the lid spontaneously broke and snapped into several pieces, which then led to the lid disengaging from the washer completely. This seems to be similar to problems that led to an earlier Samsung recall.

The product, in the report: Samsung washing top load washing machine Model WA48J7770AW/A2
I purchased a new Samsung top load washing machine in 2016 . I had it fixed due to a recall on mechanics of a stability problem with the drum . I have not had any issues with that. I regularly do a self clean on the machine but began to have a sandy oily gunk in the bottom of the drum after self cleaning. Thinking it was just a little dirt from cleaning I would wipe it out. I now realize it is actually mold buildup that is not cleaning from the bottom of the agitator. It is not cleaning the clothes if that is allowed to mix with the water during wash cycle! This has been going on for a while . I cannot wash white clothes because the gunk will get on it and won’t come off. I have called Lowe’s repair and Samsung repair to come and see it . It has an extended warranty so I hope I can replace this washer. This problem will not stop unless they take it apart and clean it . The design may be the problem not letting it drain out properly.

The product, in the report: Samsung top load washer white in color recall replacement for previous model that had the exploding top. New model poorly redesigned as lid breaks at corners due to wash cycle. Model WA48J7700AW/AA
The rear left corner of the lid of the top load machine broke at the hinge causing the frame to brake and it allows the glass cover to start to pop out. Makes it difficult to start a wash cycle as the lid won’t lock properly causing you to have to place pressure on the locking latch to get the machine to activate the wash. Lid isn’t able to stay properly shut during a wash creating an unsafe product. This was a replacement washer for a previously recalled washer for lid blow off.

The product, in the report: Top load washing machine
5/10/2020: The consumer placed 1 load of clothing in the washer and it was the first one for that day. The consumers left the home and returned to find that the top of the washer had exploded.
Samsung Washer exploded. The top was partially attached at the rear of the washer, where the controls are located. In the past, they noticed that the area around the bleach dispenser showed signs of rust. The washer dented the wall to left of the machine, and the light switch cover near it. The plastic light switch cover broke into pieces and fell on the floor. The washer moved out of place. They did not notice any burning odors. The top metal portion of the washer was bent and the metal and plastic fasteners that secured it to the bottom portion, were broken or on the floor. There were no injuries. Damage to the adjacent dryer, walls around washer, subfloor saturated - had to be removed and replaced with new flooring.
When the consumers (he & his wife) pulled into their garage, they discovered water from the ceiling down to the floor in the garage.
5/13/2020: The consumer searched on-line and found the recall. The washer appears to be included in CPSC Recall 17-028.

The product, in the report: 4.0 CU-FT WHITE TOP LOAD WASHER
When our oldest son was transferred from [REDACTED] to a base in South Korea, he gave us his Samsung washer and dryer as ours needed replacing. In 2016, Samsung issued a recall for its top load washers for safety. Following the recall notice, I had the washer repaired (November 2016) per the recall.
Fast forward to 2019, same washer had a leak that i called to have repaired via my home warranty company. The repairman informed me that there was a recall on the washer and he could not repair it until the recall repair was done (which was done in 2016). Repairman told us that the recall issue was still present as if the recall repair had not been done!
I got in touch with Samsung to authorize another recall repair done - but per their records, the recall repair had been done. So they were going to issue an refund after i followed their procedures.
Those procedures were to send photos of the power cord cut (i guess to show that i was not going to use it, sell it or give it away) and of the ID plate. And also a copy of my son’s receipt from Lowe’s where he purchased it and the necessary recall refund paperwork. This was in September 2019!
We have not heard anything from Samsung, no status whatsoever.

The product, in the report: Samsung Top Loading Washing Machine
I purchased a Samsung washing machine model WA52J8700AP/AA in February of 2017. ON Wednesday 4/15 we were doing laundry and the machine started making a terrible noise similar to a utensil being inside of a garbage disposal. As I went to look at the unit pieces of plastic shrapnel started flying out of the bottom of the unit and I thought the unit was going to explode and then shut down. I had a service technician look at the unit and he showed me a piece that broke during the spin cycle and said this should NEVER happen as this type of piece breaking is dangerous and that I was lucky more damage didn’t happen. He then told me that Samsung had a massive recall for this issue in 2016. I called Samsung and they told me that my model was not part of the recall and they could not assist me since the unit was out of warranty. I was forced to purchase a new washing machine which was delivered today. I am now making this complaint to make sure it is documented that this specific model malfunction in the same way as other models that Samsung did recall and I believe these units to be dangerous to the unsuspecting public.

The product, in the report: Samsung Top-load washing machine
My wife noticed that our washing machine had brown and white flakes floating the the wash water and deposited on clothes after cycle was finished. We ran a self-cleaning cycle and the water in the washer had a significant amount of scum floating in the water during this cycle. Knowing that we had mold or mildew in our washer and that we are washing our 8-month old daughter’s clothes, we could not use the washer until this is issue was resolved. We have run self-cleaning cycles per the owners manual since we bought this washer, always dry the tub and detergent tray following use and leave the door on the washer open at all times when it is not running.
A simple online search returns hundreds of results on Samsung’s online forum showing that this is a well-known and ongoing problem with certain models of these washing machines. I disassembled the washer by removing the washplate and basket. Removing the drum revealed gray/brown scum lining the inner plastic drum, the base plate of the basket, and the bottom of the washplate. We cleaned all parts with bleach and reassembled.
After running three self-cleaning cycles, the wash water was still filled with scum. After additional research online I found several accounts that the washplate (Samsung Washer Washplate #SAM-DC97-18154A) may still have mold inside of it. The washplate on these washers is a plastic base with a metal overlay crimped onto the base. There is a small gap between the plastic and metal where water gets trapped and mold forms. Since the metal plate is not removable, there is no easy way for a consumer to clean or maintain the washer effectively. A self-clean cycle will not remove the buildup between these two pieces.
It appears that the washplate is poorly designed (see attached photos). Simply gluing the two pieces together would eliminate ingress of water. A one piece design could also solve this issue. After removing the basket it also appears that the baseplate of the basket could have been designed to shed water so that another place for mold to grow was eliminated. Samsung has been receiving complaints online about this product for years and it is seems that the typical action is to recommend a service tech visit which is costly and cannot solve the problem in the long-term.
This is a known problem to consumers and should be known to Samsung by now. It is my opinion that this issue stems from several design flaws that can render the appliance useless and/or unsafe. Many consumers do not have the time or ability to fully disassemble their washer to clean it and may not have the time or money to chase down a solution with Samsung. Consumers should not have to pay for costly repairs or do it themselves based on a poorly designed product.

I wanted to warn the public about Samsung Top Loader washer and how dangerous using these machines still are. Samsung recalled the product and had supposedly made corrected the problem by providing a sticker and replace some clamps to remove the danger. Unfortunately, I complied and took the necessary steps to correct the problem and the washer still exploded on me fracturing my elbow. I don’t think it is taken how dangerous these machines are that are still in consumers homes. If I had been a child, it would’ve killed me. Samsung has not done enough to insure the safety of consumers when dealing with these machines and the correction is not working. What’s sad is that after you are injured, they make it difficult for you by dealing with “their” insurance company. The fact that they are aware of the problem and has only [REDACTED] it, makes me very afraid.

The product, in the report: White Samsung washing machine, recalled and still defective. spins violently, has torn up clothes, sheets, etc Moves and “walks” around when spinning
Washing Machine was one of the recalled ones. Techs were sent out by Samsung twice and they did NOT fix the problem. Machine never did fill properly to wash clothes, It spun so violently that it “walked” in my laundry area. It spun so hard that it twisted and tore dozens and dozens of clothes and ruined them. The machine left a smelly, dirty film and residue on clothes. Clothes still smelled dirty and sweaty because nothing ever go truly cleaned. Samsung did extend the warranty once, but the machine still was a piece of junk. I gave up and didn’t call back because my mother was dying and had to go out of state to be with her in the nursgin home before she passed. Then my husband, a veteran of 49 years, became severly ill from his kidney function and failure. Months of doctors and hospitals. Major surgery which was very complicated and still recovering. The machine quit two days before we had to go to Atlanta for surgery. Samsung said they would provide courtesy tech visit, but someon cancelled that. I called and got another, but someone cancelled it. Then a Samsung rep told me we could probably get a refund. Provided all the documentation, was told it was “processing” only to find out someone had cancelled it too and said I didn’t qualify. I would NEVER buy another Samsung machine. I would NEVER recommend Samsung to anyone. It is junk and they will not take responsibility for their defective machine, even when they know it has been recalled. They cannot be trusted to value you as a customer. Some were downright rude. Stay away from Samsung. What happened to the “customer always being right” practive where customers were actully valued and appreciated. It seems veterans don’t count either. After surgery and recovery in hospital, I now have over two weeks worth of laundry and no way to do it and I don’t want to leave my husband because of his complications and being left alone. Samsung you should be ashamed. Your business ethics and professionalism are the worst. You have lost our business forever and I am sharing your business practices and lack of quality with everyone I know on base and at church. I believe this is going to affect you in more ways than you can count. It would have been less expensive to compensate us for our machine and our damaged items. You are going to lose far more than that in future business from us and from our numerous friends and family. Shame on you Samsung.

Washing machine produces mold which is impossible to remove. The mold is located within the agitator between the metal piece in a plastic piece. This part cannot be taken apart once the discovery of mold within it is made. The part must be replaced completely. Even still, a repair man must come out to remove the drum and bucket completely to attemt to remove all of the mold in that space as well. I contacted Samsung who stated that this specific washer has already been recalled for an issue in which the top glass lid breaks off. She said she could send a service man, and reinforce the lid so that does not happen and only after that was completed would they send out a service man to address the mold issue, which cannot be rectified per other customers with the same model. This is a very well known issue across Samsung boards social media discussions, etc. Yet there is no recall for known problem of the mold which has brought out terrible allergies in my children . My wife put on some clothes to wash. We were in the bedroom on the other side of the house and we heard a loud noise. We went investigate outside saw nothing, and went to the backyard through the garage and saw the washing machine was turned 90 degrees. I ran over and unplugged it. Then I noticed all 4 sides of the washing machine had dents and the back looked like it was about to break open. I can’t remember if I opened the lid or it was already opened, the part you pour detergent into was popped open and had some weird rust colored stuff in/on it. I knew this couldn’t be right and I remember someone telling me about samsung recall on washing machines awhile back. So we looked it up and it seemed like ours had the same symptoms, but when I called samaung they said my model was not included in the recall. Even though your website lists mine as one of the affected models. No injuries.

We self-cleaned with bleach several times, but that didn’t matter as the entire drum under the machine is filled with mold. We do our best to clean it but it keeps reappearing. The brown slime and mold is everywhere and no matter what we do we cannot remove it all and we cannot keep it away. This is apparently a known issue and design flaw with this particular line of washers, and nothing is being done. We have a baby with an airway defect and who knows how long we have been washing his clothes in mold. The unit is only two years old.

The product, in the report: Samsung white top loading washing machine WA422PRHDWR
Our Samsung top load washer (WA422PRHDWR) started rocking out of balance while spinning in April of 2019. On May 24, 2019, my husband received the new parts (cost:$66.20 + his labor) and replaced the suspension to correct the problem. However in early Oct 2019 during a wash cycle, our washing machine started rocking so hard we thought it would punch a whole into the nearby wall. While trying to get the machine to stop, my husband was hit but not injured luckily. On 10/8/2019 I called Samsung’s customer service department and reported the issue. I was told there was a recall of my machine via our serial number. I was offered $118 toward the purchase of a new Samsung washing machine.
When calling PA attorney general office to report our problem of not being informed by Samsung of the 2016 recall, we were told to search the internet. Despite registering our machine with Samsung giving them our address, phone and email address which are still current today, we were NOT notified via email, phone nor US mail. Upon further searching we found a class action suit on our washing machine that awarded consumers the cost of the Samsung washer ($759.87) plus an additional $400 each. Apparently the deadline to fill for this reimbursement was Aug 2019. I have tried to contact the class action suit group to no avail. Please help us get reimbursed for our loss.

The product, in the report: Samsung Clothes Washer
Samsung or other brand washing machines that use dc97-16985A for the drain pump kit have a faulty and cheap design. The cheap construction of the housing unit breaks easily when in the spin cycle. Looking for a replacement part for this turned up numerous other accounts of people experiencing the same thing. Once the plastic housing breaks, eventually the pump itself falls out of/get disconnected from the tub and this results in water pouring out of the tub during a fill cycle. This has happened multiple times to me and has caused water damage in multiple spots of the home.

The product, in the report: White Samsung top load washer
I have a Samsung top load washer. It was a replacement for a recalled top load Samsung washer. Recently it has started to shake violently then turn off leaving the cloths soaked and needs to be run multiple times. It also vibrates so bad the plastic on the lid and hinges have cracked causing damage to the washer as well as small sharp plastic pieces to fall in with laundry. I contacted Samsung to request a repair technician. [REDACTED] at Samsung customer service said it was out of warranty but offered a one time accommodation to cover the parts and labor of the repair and set an appointment with a repair technician. After the tech was a no show it was determined that the appointment was never made. After back and fourth between Samsung and the 3rd party they use for repairs “EEFix”. The service provider denied the work order do to the complications and communication issues with Samsung. I then escalated the concerns with Samsung getting nothing but rude customer service agents that only made things worse. The repair that I have in writing that was to be covered by Samsung 100% could not be complete because they didn’t have any repair providers willing to take the job. Samsung then tried to say I had to pay out of pocket to get it diagnosed and they would consider reimbursement for the part only because labor is only covered when performed by their service providers. Do to location they don’t have any providers to do warranty work, and I’m supposed to pay out of pocket then submit for possible partial reimbursement. The washer has become a safety concern with two small children in the home and I am being denied a service because Samsung’s own service techs refuse to accept work orders from Samsung. I can’t understand why I am being denied repairs they had originally agreed to cover because they can’t find someone to work on it. Warranty repairs should be the same for all their customers. I have escalated it as much as possible through Samsung with little help on a resolution.

My Samsung washing machine was on a normal cycle. It had hand towels and 3 bath towels. There was a huge bang when I was downstairs so I went to check. The washing machine exploded and came away from the wall. The door was swung open with 12 minutes still showing on the screen. The inside barrel had come completely separated with a big tear on the metal barrel and plastic everywhere. There is also 2 huge cracks on my roof directly below the washing machine that were not there (it’s a brand new house).

The product, in the report: Samsung Top loading washing machine
I notified Samsung last Thursday in regards to black mold being discovered in between the layers of the washer drum as well as under the agitator plate on my top loading washer model #WA5471ABP/X. Samsung noticed that there had been a previous recall regarding balance issues leading to exploding lids when used in the spin cycle for this particular model washer. They refused to take any action in regards to the mold issue that upon further research is caused from a design flaw in manufacturing that causes the washer to accumulate moisture in above noted areas leading to growth of toxic black mold. A service for the recall was made the following day 8/30 in order to expedite the ticket for manufacturer defect causing mold growth. I explained to Samsung that the washer was purchased in March 2012 and my youngest daughter was born in April 2012, since she was born she has had numerous types of unexplained rashes as well as numerous visits for upper respiratory infections, all documented with her physician. All with unexplained cause that is until the mold growth was discovered. It is well known that exposure to black mold can lead to various skin rashes, upper respiratory issues, headaches, as well as many other complaints. It is noted to Samsung that our washer is located in a laundry closet in our main living area of our house and also near our daughters bedroom. Her clothes were continually washed in the contaminated washer, some being left to air dry. It was noted that laundry often had a musty smell (another sign of mold growth) after washing, even after immediate removal once wash cycle complete. I have taken samples of the mold growth to send to lab if needed. I will also reach out to my daughters physician to see if any blood work is needed in regards to mold exposure. We have since stopped using the washer and dryer due to concerns of any cross continuation it may now have. Samsung’s response to this issue is concerning, especially given the hundreds of complaints that are noted on their community support page on their website in regards to this exact issue. Samsung’s blatant disregard to the health and safety of their consumers in regards to using known faulty manufactured appliances is alarming. They’re insisting upon repair, which does not remove the current presence of mold nor does it prevent future accumulation of mold because as noted this is a flaw in the design of washing machine. I’m asking for refund for my washer, as well as my compromised dryer. Due to their insistence on having it serviced I must now continue to house an unhealthy and unsafe appliance within range of my family including my child who already shows signs of mold exposure. We were out of the house Sat-Mon with no signs of sickness during that time and within 24 hrs of being back in our house my youngest daughter developed a rash on her arms, upper torso and cheeks, as well as sneezing and coughing. I can’t help but know in my gut that this is due to her exposure to black mold. This health and safety concern needs to be addressed!! I have filed a complaint with the New Jersey BBB in regards to Samsung’s negligence on this matter.

The product, in the report: Samsung WA5471ABW/XAA Top Loading Washing Machine
Purchased a Samsung Top-Loading Washer (Model WA5471ABW/XAA) about 5 years ago. It is part of the Samsung Recall for the top part of the machine exploding while in use. While that is a problem, the bigger issue is with the level of mold inside the machine. When doing a load of laundry, thousands of black/brown flecks come out of the machine and onto the clothes.
Attempts to run cleaning cycles or use any washing machine cleaner are to no avail. This is mainly due to the design of the machine in which you only get a few inches of water for an empty load at the bottom of the washtub. There is no way to disassemble the tub to clean the mold out of the basin. This has been a problem off and on for several years now. It seems once run enough that the loosen mold comes through the holes of the tub it will go away for a few weeks until enough mold has reformed and then begin to show up in the laundry loads again.
Samsung’s recall does not address the mold issue. There are countless pages of reports on the Samsung Community help message boards about this same issue over the past several years for these top-loading pieces of junk. Obviously the mold, mildew, detergent buildup, etc that is getting on clothes during a wash prevents them from ever being cleaned.

No one hurt Made Aug 19, 2019, sent to the company Aug 27, 2019, published by CPSC Sep 11, 2019
The product, in the report: Samsung washer
On August 28, 2016 I purchased a Samsung washer and dryer. In September of 2018 the washer exploded. After a couple of calls to Samsung I was refunded my purchase price because there was an apparent safety issue, or flaw, with a certain series of the issue of this machine.
On September 28, 2018 I purchased a replacement Samsung washer.
In mid-March of 2019 that washer also exploded, causing damage to the interior wall of my laundry room. The explosion was so bad this time that it bent the outside of the frame. Samsung this time elected to claim that the washer’s damage was my fault (physical damage). This was determined by someone named [REDACTED], thousands of miles away at Samsung, in his discussion with the authorized Samsung technician who came to my home to evaluate the damage. The technician stated that it was obvious that the washer exploded, but this [REDACTED] word prevailed.
No one at Samsung wished to cooperate and I filed a Better Business bureau complaint on April 4, 2019 (Case ID [REDACTED]). Samsung ultimately negotiated reluctantly and agreed to a “one-time special accomdation” to repair the washer. The technician came back out and ordered practically an entire new assembly for the inside of this washer, well in excess of the cost to refund it and allow me to purchase another machine.
In the meantime, Samsung also unilaterally voided my one-year warranty on the machine (that I had only purchased on September 28, 2018) in April after the first repairs and did such after I specifically asked if my warranty would still be effective, to which I was told it would be. There are too many people at Samsung telling a different story and issuing different directives.
In July of 2019 I began to hear a grinding sound coming from the washer. Again, my concern became that the washer was never really safe to use. I paid to have the local authorized Samsung technician come out. This was a different Samsung technician than the previous one.
I was told that the transmission was going out in the washer. Further, it was fruitless to install a new transmission because of the damage to the frame of the washer that had occurred when the machine blew up in March. The authorized technician also stated that the previous authorized technician making the repairs in April did not complete the job because the lid was not even on flush with the damaged frame which Samsung claimed cosmetic (physical) damage. The technician sent in pictures of the damage and I again argued that the machine needed to be replaced by a refund from Samsung.
I requested the machine be replaced because it is unsafe to use. In July Samsung granted another “special accommodation” (Samsung Ticket [REDACTED]). Samsung has a release form that I was required to sign in order to process the refund. I did such as with the previous washer mishap and scanned it in with a photo of the serial tag from the back of the washer. This was unaccpetable to Samsung and they demanded that the serial tag be removed, stuck on a piece of paper and faxed/scanned in. They did not require this when the first washer blew up.
On Wednesday, July 31 I received a call from yet another Samsung representative and was told that Samsung had granted my request for a replacement machine. But they also advised that I not go purchase another unit until the “final, final word” came from their executive decision makers in product liability.
I ultimately had the serial tag removed, at my expense and scanned it in to Samsung as requested on a piece of paper on August 3. I also re-sent the conditions letter
On August 13, 2019 I get the following message by email: “Hello , This Is [REDACTED] from Samsung contacting you in regards to your washer refund. We are currently missing your required document & photos to finalize this process. To avoid cancellation please reply back to this message with the following: Photo of the sliver decal sticker Removed from the unit attached to the front page of the acceptance doc or to the palm of your hand, Cut power cord from unit. Once I have obtained all of the following listed above via email we then ask that you mail in the Cut power cord along with the Removed serial decal sticker to the address listed on the second page of the acceptance document (365 Center pointe Drive Simpsonville, SC 29681). Please continue to hold on to the unit until this process has been completed & you have received the refund. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us at 1-800-SAMSUNG Referencing in to your ticket number listed above in the subject line [REDACTED] Samsung Customer Care Refund Processing Team.”
I called Samsung again immediately upon reading the email and spoke with an [REDACTED] who stated there was no record of my transmission back on August 3. He asked that I take a photo of the serial tag and text it to his phone. He then happened to find the conditions letter which I had sent on August 3. All the documents went in one attachment. [REDACTED] stated his receipt of the serial tag by phone text. Now comes the additional madates:
Note in [REDACTED] email that I was being threatened with my refund being cancelled. Also note that Samsung was now demanding the power cord cut from the washer and sent in before any refund process began. Once again from past practice, this was not required when the first washer blew up.
I cannot accomodate the power cord being cut because that would leave me with no washer at all and no refund. That is an unfair demand of Samsung because it was not required when the first machine blew up.
Samsung has not acted in good faith. I have been made aware of a class action lawsuit against Samsung (some time back) on their appliances and their posture is apparently to simply ignore their consumers now or bully them. The advice of holding off for the “final final word” tells me that I was being played with.
Meanwhile I am using a washer that is unsafe to use but I have to have something to wash clothes.
Samsung agreed to replace the machine and in certain words encouraged me to buy another brand, which I will if I can get my refund.
I filed a complaint against Samsung to the Better Business Bureau of New Jersey this past week. Samsung called me immediately from the “Executive Offices” and continued to demand the cord. I did not argue further. I will not go without a washer so I am forced, bullied, in to using a machine until I can afford to go out any buy another machine and then hope that Samsung does not cancel my accomodation for a refund because this will take several months, and they probably will.
I also must haul off this washer at my cost. Last time Samsung paid to have it hauled off and gave me $200 for my trouble. I will send them their power cord if they pay for the cost of shipping and not until I get my refund and a new machine in place in my home.
Samsung’s posture is apparently to simply ignore their consumers. The advice of holding off for the “final final word” tells me that I was being played with. While being granted this special exception, I have been continually told to not replace the washer until a refund was received. The unfounded refund conditions are the reason for my complaint, based on my own experience with the same Samsung appliance model in the past year.
During this time I have dealt with some of the rudest people who are fronting Samsung as hit persons in their “product liability” department, who tell the customer the only response they know, which is “No, we don’t have to do anything for you” and the proceed to bully them around.
Admittedly I have not been the most pleasant person to deal with, but given my experience who would? I will never purchase another Samsung appliance, either by brand or if I know Samsung made the product.
I am weary of this battle. I want my washer replaced. And I need the current one to use as it will take several weeks to get a new washer.
In the first incident, I was faithful to Samsung and simply purchased a similar Samsung unit to replace the first unit that blew up in September 2018. This time I will accomodate their immature request and not purchase another one of their washers, not that I would have anyhow.

The product, in the report: Samsung Top Load High Efficiency washer, White, with AquaJet and VRT.
I noticed last fall that our Samsung Top Load washer (bought 10/10/15) was depositing brown specks and goo on our clothes after some washings. I only use HE detergent. After researching and reading the manual, I have run the self-clean cycle many, many times and tried a washing machine cleaner several times. The deposits remain -- I have pictures I will attach.
When I have looked online for recommendations, some people have taken their washer apart to clear out the mildew, but I do not have the expertise for that nor do I want to have ANOTHER repairman out AGAIN for a Samsung product. This washer has already had a major recall due to the exploding lids. Our Samsung refrigerator (bought 7/25/15) has had three major repairs due to dying abruptly. Because they are Samsung products I can only have certain repair-people out, and the nearest Samsung repair shop is not local NOR are they efficient (hence having to have the fridge repaired three times in several months).
Because of the washer lid problems (even after the recall repair), any bed linens must be washed on a cycle with barely any spin, which means they take longer to dry. This washer is only 4 years old and has been nothing but trouble (along with the fridge).
I am filling out this information in the hopes that even though I am stuck with a bad washer, that the problem will be fixed in future Samsung appliances.

The product, in the report: Samsung front load washer, Steam VRE, High Efficiency, self cleaning, 10 year direct drive warranty. Product was purchased new May 6, 2014.
We were washing a comforter in our Samsung front load washer when suddenly we heard a loud boom come from the laundry room. The washer had an internal explosion with such ferocity that it blew both the washing machine and the pedestal forward and blew a hole in the wall because the door to the washing machine had been blown open. It warped the door mechanism so the washer door will not close and blew the drum unnaturally forward further into the machine. Various sections of the inside of the machine are now warped. There is so much damage I am sure it is unrepairable. My biggest concern is for safety. Had my little grandson been in front of the machine when it happened it would have surely killed him and would have seriously injured or killed any adult.

The imbalance trips the sensors in the bottom of the drum so it won’t spin. Thank God, I have a twenty year old [REDACTED] in the basement I’m using until I get this mess straightened out! What a mess, screwed again by big corporate greed!

Samsung top loader washing machine model # WA45H7000AW After less just over one year of use I noticed that my clothes were consistently coming out dirtier than they went in and my husband complained about the stink in his fresh-washed clothes. We noticed black, slimy flakes all over our clothes after a wash cycle. We had service in April 2016 and were told there was mold under the drum. We have used the tablets in the self clean cycle over and over and over, but it only released the moldy gunk and makes the next loads worse. I have spent much time and money running extra loads, using the clean cycle, washing, soaking, hanging on the line, rewashing etc to try to get the clothes clean, but the problem continues, ruining my clothes, sheets, blankets etc.
Many many people with the Samsung washer complain about the same issue and Samsung has not addressed a fix for this faulty design that caused mold to build up under the drum and inbetween the drum walls.

The product, in the report: Samsung HE Washing machine
I want to report a continuing problem on my Samsung washing machine Model WA400P-JHDWR/AA. Samsung ordered a recall last year saying they would send someone to fix a problem relating to exploding machine lids due to drum vibration. I signed up for the repair and set a date/time and no one showed up. I ended up receiving in the mail two stickers to affix to the machine warning me to no longer include bedding in regular wash. It doesn’t matter what kind of clothes I put into a load of wash, the machine vibrates terribly when it goes into the spin cycle. I have to be standing by it to shut it down, open the lid and readjust the clothing inside and restart it. I usually have to do this 3-4 times and take some clothing out of the machine before it spins without wild vibrations of the entire machine. A label is no solution for what are obviously under-engineered springs on the washing machine tub. This is really unacceptable for a piece of in-home equipment.

The product, in the report: Laundry Washer
Samsung Washing Machine Model WA45K7600A / WA45K7100A
Washer has a top loading lid, with a “built in sink.” This sink is a separate blue plastic basin that remains over the tub when the lid is raised to provide a shallow basin to pre-treat or pre-wash soiled items.
First problem: At the end of the wash cycle, I need to raise the lid (with the plastic basin attached) in order to remove the cleaned clothes. However, this raised lid/basin combination is top heavy and unstable. It will close after the slightest disturbance. Since I am required, by design, to stick my head under this unstable lid/basin to reach the laundry in the deep tub, I have several times had the lid close on my head, face or arms.
The latest occurrence (and final straw) happened on or about April 1 when the lid/basin fell unexpectedly and struck the bridge of my nose. The result: significant bleeding, an obvious wound, a scab with resulting scar, and finally, the inconvenience and indignity of rewashing an otherwise clean load. All leading to the conclusion and the insistence that this was a design flaw that creates an unnecessary risk of injury.
Second problem When using the lowered basin as intended, the raised lid alone is still top heavy and unstable. In order to use the basin I am again required to put myself in a danger zone. Same results possible.
Third problem The basin sometimes is not latched to the lid when raised, so after lifting the lid/basin, the plastic basin falls unexpectedly. Same head results possible.
It is not my job to offer solutions, just identify problems with negative unintended consequences..
And this is a problem
Sincerely
[REDACTED]

I can no longer wash a full load of clothes. I finally reached out to a repairman last Friday, and was informed that this product was recalled in November 2016! I paid $129.00 for the technician to diagnose the washer. I was never informed of any recall at all. I want a replacement washer or a full refund for the defective washer. The product, in the report: Samsung top load washer
My Samsung top load washing machine began developing severe mold around the entire interior; mold is growing throughout the tub at each of the hundreds of drain holes, around all the interior edges, in and around the detergent tray and bleach tray, etc. The mold is growing in places that are not accessible to physical cleaning attempts and multiple attempts to clean the mold with various washing machine cleaner products using various wash cycles have failed. Following each wash cycle, clumps of mold are left stuck all over the interior of the machine and on our “clean” laundry. A quick internet search easily reveals that dozens upon dozens of other Samsung top load washing machine owners have experienced exactly the same issue with no reasonable attempt whatsoever by Samsung to address or rectify the situation. Many very dissatisfied customers believed erroneously that they were purchasing a safe and reliable washing machine that they could trust for their families. I am very disappointed to have such an unsanitary issue develop with no hope for a solution on a product I’ve hade for under 5 years.

The product, in the report: Samsung top load washing machine
A layer of crud is accumulating on the top and bottom of the spider arms attaching the washing drum to the drive shaft of the motor. It’s an inch or more thick in some places. It appears to be a mixture of dirt and excess laundry detergent that just isn’t rinsing away after the wash cycle. I would imagine that mold sensitive people could have serious problems with this issue. The smell is awful, and I’ve been washing my clothes in this!
After each wash cycle, there are flakes of brown gunk on clothes. I’ve had a tech out to look at the machine, it’s mechanically sound and working as designed. The suggested fixes of raising the drain pipe and running more self-clean cycles with various cleaning agents were applied. None of that worked. There are TWO YEARS and over 58 pages of a similar complaints here
https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/WashersDryers/thread-id/1292/page/1
The problem exists between the outside of the stainless steel washing drum and soft plastic bin that holds the wash water, and also beneath the pulsator at the bottom of the wash drum. The machine requires disassembly to get to this area.
I cleaned it the best I could with a high pressure garden hose nozzle and a stiff brush, this still didn’t remove all of the gunk. A pressure washer probably would have been more effective. No amount of self-cleaning cycles is going to take this stuff off.
After cleaning, reassembly, and another self-cleaning cycle, the gunk was dramatically reduced. This cured the symptom for a while, but dirt is accumulating under the washing drum once again, and the flakes are appearing after each wash cycle.
Fortunately I have the space and the tools to perform this operation. I’m sure there are many people who own one of these machines where this just isn’t possible due to the location of the unit (on the upper floors of an apartment, etc.)
The consumer shouldn’t have to disassemble a washing machine in order for it to function normally.
I have yet to see a meaningful, useful response from Samsung.

It started making excess vibration again, and i talked to samsung and again technician came. he said these washer has drum issue, he can not actually fix it. He just give some advice to avoid disbalance clothes like - they should be always half filled do not used bedsheet with other clother. do not wash jeans with other clothes.

Samsung top loading washer model WA48J7770AW/A2 exploded after having been serviced for recall dated November 4, 2016. The machine operated without incident for a period of about 18 months after the recall repair option was applied to the washer by an authorized Samsung repair vendor. Fortunately, there were no injuries.
The machine had a small load containing a few bath towels and the quick-wash cycle was used. A loud “BANG” was heard. The machine was found to have:
1. Shifted significantly from it original position. 2. Glass washer door was ajar. 3. Metal top of washer was popped. 4. Washer drum was found to to be 6-8” off-center. 5. A “outward ding” the size of a silver dollar was found about shin-high on the front of the washer. 6. Lid door no-longer locks 7. Leaking water.
We are currently waiting on a warranty service rep to inspect/repair the washer.

Flakes and particles of mold are present in our washing machine tub after a cycle is run. It occurs after any type of cycle including self-clean. It also occurs after adding vinegar and baking soda to warm/hot water cycles.
After some Internet research, I discovered that many, many consumers have this problem with the same and similar Samsung models. There is a long forum chain on Samsung’s website documenting these issues.
I also discovered the source of the mold. It is on the underside of the agitator plate, in between the metal and plastic of the agitator plate, and underneath the bottom of the tub itself. Some of these surfaces are cleanable, others are physically impossible to clean. Which leads me to believe there is a fundamental design flaw with the washer that is allowing water to not drain properly and thus, harboring mold.
I have requested a Samsung service repair. My washer is out of warranty and based on other consumer’s experiences, Samsung will charge for the service. Additionally, it’s not clear that a solution is even possible given the nature of the design elements that are causing the mold.

The product, in the report: Samsung Top Load Washer, model WA45H7000AW, 4.5-cu ft.
I have owned the Samsung Top Load Washing Machine (model WA45H7000AW, 4.5-cu ft) for a little over 2 years. Throughout the last 12 months I have been experiencing horrible flakes of mildew at the end of my wash cycles that get stuck in my clothes and are all over the bottom of the inner drum. In recent weeks it has gotten to be particularly bad, especially after trying to use the self clean cycle to fix it, that I feel I have no other options left but to file a complaint.
I have read through multiple forums where others have expressed the exact same problem, noting that this is a design flaw and that no service technicians are able to fix the issue. Samsung seems to turn a blind eye to this problem and it is very difficult to receive any assistance with this matter. I have consulted with their support team multiple times, but I was only ever told to run the self clean cycle. The self clean cycle seems to only make the mold worse, not better.
This is a serious health hazard that should not be overlooked, and it is completely disgusting. To think that I am wearing clothing and sleeping on bed sheets that have been washed in moldy water is nauseating. For this to be such a serious problem only a year into owning this washing machine is completely unacceptable.

When we went to see what had happened our washing machine was sitting at least 24 inches away from where it normally sits and was severely dented and damaged. When whatever happened occurred it hit the walls of my home so severely that it broke the glass on my china cabinet which was located the reverse side of the wall to the rear of the washing machine and knocked off pictures and clocks from all of the shared walls of the laundry room.

The product, in the report: High Efficiency Top Loading Washing Machine
Samsung Washer WA45H700A (top load high efficiency machine) continuously leaves brown flakes/slime on clothes or in washer tube after running a load of laundry. Numerous people on the Samsung website forums are reporting the same issue. Water is being trapped internal to the machine and causing mold/mildew growth, which is then finding it’s way into washing tub. I follow all owners manual recommendations - inlet filters are clean, Clean cycle is run when machine says it needs to be run, unit is left open after running laundry, use high efficiency detergent in minimal quantity.

I have had nothing but problems with this washer. I have placed the stickers on it and had a repair man out to fix the vibration. It did not help. I was told to continue to use it and make 3 repair calls and then it could be replaced. I was washing my laundry in the Samsung washing machine model # wa400pjhdwr/aa when it started vibrating like usual and it vibrated the drain hose out so when it drained it leaked in my laundry room wetting the walls and the floor and leaking into the dining room before we noticed. I would like this washer replaced, It is not safe to use as the lid may come off and I cant wash laundry when it shakes out the drain hose. Samsung has not done much to remedy but send a replacement set of decals months after we started experiencing the vibrating. my laundry room is unfinished so the damage can be fixed but there was a vacum that was ruined by getting wet.

I purchased a brand new Samsung top loading washing machine about 3 years ago. It has already had one recall for the top flying off. Now it is growing mold inside of it and depositing mold & debris on my clothes instead ofvcleaning them. I have had health issues since purchasing this machine, and the mold exposure could be to blame.
Hundreds (if not thousands) of other consumers are having the same issue, and Samsung is doing nothing to fix the problem. We all deserve refunds.

The product, in the report: Samsung Washing Machine model WA52J8700AP/A2
We had this washing machine only 18 months or so when we started to notice small black spots on our clothes. We initially ignored it and just assumed something was left in a pocket, but the spots persisted and then became accompanied by a moldy/musty smell - clothes, towels, sheets, everything. After investigating, I discovered that there was an enormous amount of mold growing underneath and within the agitator as well as under the tub itself. Both the tub and agitator are stainless steel on the inside (where the clothes make contact and plastic on the outside. The issue is that water remains between these two layers and the mold began growing (despite maintaining as recommended by the manufacturer and even running extra vinegar cycles monthly). We’ve been battling this issue for about a year now and are at a loss - I’ve even taken the agitator out and the steel and plastic pieces are fused together, so you can’t even separate them to bleach or clean separately. We’re at a point that this machine is now completely useless to us and a health hazard - we have a 5 yr old who’s been wearing clothes with black mold on them for over a year and we can no longer risk her health nor ours. If you search Samsung’s support pages, there are 50+ pages comprising literally hundreds of reports from consumers having this same issue and Samsung refuses to call it a defect nor address the issue, so I’m reaching out in the hope that you can help since we’re in an unsafe situation and the manufacturer refuses to do anything about it. Thank you for your help. -[REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Samsung washer wf45k6500a. Metal grey color
We bought a Samsung wf45k6500a together with its matching dryer over almost two years ago. After a few months, I have noticed a bad smell. I blamed it on different factors, but after a few months, I realized that my baby clothes were smelling just like mine. We do separate laundry, we use different soaps (all HE soaps). I would place brand new clothes in it and they would come out stinky. I called customer service numerous time. They were rude and bullied me the whole time until the year warranty was over. They sent one of their technician who came and only ran a quick diagnostic test and told me that everything was working fine. He put in writing to use two cups of vinegar, bleach, bla bla ..all advice I got through already from Samsung customer service. It is against the manufactur and cannot believe their customer service or technician would recommend it. It states clearly in the manual not to. Customer service speculated so much, they said that the mold/sewer smell was given by the fact that the washer was sitting on an old humid basement, that our clothes were not washed on the proper setting. We just built a house (2017)and our laundry room sits at the top level. I am a staying home mom and did a few laundry loads in my life! I was able to get a second Samsung technician over and he told me that all washers are like this nowadays and the only way to have clean clothes is to wash the washer regularly with tide washer cleaner. It is certainly against the manual. Bottom line, I had to start using them, although I don’t like to use those strong chemicals in my house, mostly having a small child. Well, our allergies got worse and I fear for my daughter lungs as at times I smell a mold type of smell on her clothes. We owned a front load washer before. We always kept the door opened and always wiped the door and around it. This maintenance doesn’t help with this washer. I suspect there is something inside the washer that gets moldy from time to time. Fighting it with chemicals only helps for so long. It’s so sad!

The product, in the report: Samsung Top Load Washer Model: WA52J8700AP/A2 Serial Number: 0E6H5AUH100175D ?
I purchased the Samsung top load washer (Model: WA52J8700AP/A2) (Serial Number: 0E6H5AUH100175D) approximately less than two years ago. Unfortunately, shortly after my fiancé was injured in the Marines during a deployment to Iraq. Due to the financial strain from his injuries we were forced to sell our house and move to an apartment that was more affordable for the time being. Our brand new washer & dryer went to our storage unit until August of 2017 when we purchased our home. Our washer started acting up (excessive vibration, multiple error codes, loud noises, etc) in April 2018, so I went online to troubleshoot and quickly discovered it was recalled. Due to the move and chaos surrounding the time of purchase we no longer have our receipt so I called the recall rebate customer assistance to make sure that wouldn’t cause an issue. I was told that wouldn’t be a problem and was offered two options for this issue: (1) To have the washer repaired at their cost which would extend the manufacture warranty for one year OR (2) to purchase a new washer in exchange for the recalled washer. The recall rebate form offered $544 for a new non-Samsung brand and they offered an additional $150 if you purchased another Samsung washer for a total of $694 plus any installation/removal fees as long as they were on the sales receipt for the new unit. We definitely didn’t have the extra money to purchase a new washer at the time so we had planned on opting for the repair, however, there were no “authorized agents” in my area to make the repair so the rebate was my only option.
We were extremely disappointed and angry about having to fork out the extra money to purchase a new washer when ours was less than two years old, but were assured we’d receive our rebate in 4-6 weeks. We made the purchase of the comparable Samsung model from Lowes on 8/1/18 for a total of $881.68 and delivered on 8/8/18. Our recalled model washer that matched our dryer was platinum silver in color and of course, Samsung discontinued that color so we no longer have a matching set as we ordered (to which they told us “too bad”).
On 8/11/18, I sent in the completed rebate form with all of the requirements included. After six weeks of still not receiving the rebate (or any type of communication at all) I contacted Samsung to obtain the status of my rebate check and was told that someone had already claimed the rebate for my serial number. I was floored! I asked how this possibly could have happened when I’ve been in possession of the washer since I purchased in early 2017. The agent told me that when the recall was first issued some of the recalled washers that were returned were mistakenly placed back on the sales floor. So, I asked what I needed to do to receive the $694 as promised and was told they would need to “conduct an investigation” but they couldn’t tell me an estimated time of when this would be completed and just said “it can take a very long time”. I have spoke to various different agents on the phone, written countless emails/complaints and exhausted every avenue of trying to get this issue resolved. I am now completely out my recalled washer (that was not even 2 years old and was over $1000) that I was forced to replace because of their lack of agents but also the cost of another $900 washer in less than 24 months. I understand that mistakes happen but it wasn’t OUR mistake and Samsung is doing nothing to justify this error on their behalf. I continue to get the same response that “they will have to investigate”, no timeline of events of what to expect, continuous runaround, and excuses. I have researched this issue in great lengths and have found that my experience is very similar to many others and I’m extremely frustrated, disappointed and down right angry in the lack of service and support from Samsung. It was the recommendation of several agents I’ve spoke to regarding this situation to bring attention to the issue to CPSC. I pray that this will help get my rebate issued immediately as originally promised by Samsung. Thank you in advance for you time.

We purchased a Samsung top load washing machine in 2015. A recall for possible “forceful release of the top cover or other parts from the unit” was issued in 2016. We only received warning label overlays to place on the outside of the washer that warned not to use the high spin cycle for bedding and waterproof materials. A rebate of $150 credit toward the purchase of another Samsung machine was the only recourse. The retail value was close to $1,000. Meanwhile, brown irregular flakes appeared in every wash load that had to be picked or shaken off each piece of laundry. The live chat Samsung representative said to use the “self clean” cycle but clothing stains kept appearing. We noticed over 50 posts on the Samsung community website that complained of the same problem, MOLD, in inaccessible areas of the machine. We wish to purchase a different, not Samsung, washer but have already spent hundreds of labor hours on cleaning. How can this company ignore health issues?

The product, in the report: Top load HE washer
As reported by others on this forum [REDACTED] I am having the same problem with mold building up between the inner and outer drums and below the agitator resulting in small flakes of mold being deposited on clothes during wash cycle. If you look at the forum link I posted there are 51 pages of people complaining about the same problem with the various washer models in this family of top loaders and Samsung doing nothing to resolve the issue. Having support people post over and over that we should make sure it is level, run the self clean cycle and use less detergent is not addressing the issue. The only way we can fix the problem is to partially disassemble the washer and thoroughly clean it then do it again in about six months when mold flakes start appearing again.
This is a health issue and I have family members with respiratory issues so having to worry about mold spores on our clothing is a big deal and Samsung doing nothing to resolve the design issue is unacceptable. We have been dealing with this issue for over two years now, we love the capacity of this unit but the health risk needs to be addressed.

Serial: 0DHQ5AUG700384W

On March 27th, 2018 my husband and I purchased the Samsun top loader front washing machine. I originally noticed some small brown spots on our clothes after they were washed. They seemed to come out dirtier than they went into the washing machine. I then did every self cleaning imaginable. I did this several times and still found the small brown spots. I cleaned every nook and cranny I could find. Still spots... I then took off the cap on the agitator plate on the bottom of the machine and noticed a ton of black sludge! Then I did more research and found a community of people with the same issue (50 pages of complaints regarding this exact same Samsung product design flaw with nothing being done. One of them instructed to take off the agitator plate and clean under it. When I took it off I was completely disgusted! This is the washing machine where I wash my family’s clothing, bedding, etc.! They are 7 months old and chew on everything! My husband and I have been having breathing problems in bed probably as a result of this mold. I’m extremely disgusted by this. I’ve always done any regular maintenance of the machine that is recommended. I never use too much detergent, it’s always HE, and I rarely if ever use fabric softener. Also, I have babied this product. I run the self clean often. So appalled by Samsung as it seems according to the community on their website that they do not back their products and blame the consumer for improper care. I just want them to take responsibility for this issue as it is not a consumer problem but a flaw in the design of their product.

The product, in the report: Top loading washing machine with aqua jet.
I originally noticed a bad smell emanating from the Samsung top load washing machine, despite running self clean and sanitize cycles, and using white vinegar and bleach to clean, per Samsung’s product manual and trouble shooting guidance. This did not diminish the odor. I then noticed brown and black spots on the bottom of the washer, as well as on the clothing after the washing load completed. I conducted additional research into the cause of the mold/mildew and discovered that this is a design defect in Samsung top load washers. Multiple consumers have reported this exact problem and complete lack of responsiveness from Samsung online. After conducting research, I removed the cap from the agitator plate on the bottom of the washer and observed black sludge. Please see attached picture. I also removed the agitator plate, per the guidance from other affected consumers online, and observed more sludge/mold/mildew. I cleaned the interior of the machine thoroughly and continued to run self clean and sanitize cycles, all to no avail. My husband and I purchased this expensive washer in the summer of 2016, after our son was born. He is now a toddler and this is a definite safety issue, given that his clothes, bedding and stuffed animals are being placed into a washer that is full of mold/mildew that cannot be eradicated. My son has now developed watery eyes, congestion/stuffy nose and other allergy symptoms that I fully believe are caused by this unsafe condition. Samsung is well aware of this design defect, yet does nothing proactively to protect consumers from their product.

Our washing machine was started with a waterproof bed cover and some other clothing such as socks. It was not over loaded. We left home. While we were away the machine washing drum broke and slammed into all four sides of the washer housing and broke the top off the washing machine. It dented the dryer next to it and pushed it hard enough into the wall to dent the drywall. The top of the machine broke an outlet cover and damaged the drywall behind the washing machine.

The product, in the report: front load washing machine
The most recent problem started the second week of October 2018. The washer started moving when it was in use. The consumer would come home and find that the washer had moved approximately 8” – 10” away from its normal location.
When the drum is spinning, its forcing the rubber boot to rub against the drum and causing the washer to emit a burning odor.
The consumer checked on-line and saw recall 17-028, but it was for top-load washers.
The consumer is concerned about a possible fire hazard and that the washer may damage or injury someone, when it unexpectedly moves.
2010 - 2012: There is a rubber boot, which separates the metal frame from the drum of the washer, and it’s located in front of the washer. This rubber boot separated from the washer. Since it occurred within the first couple years of ownership, the repair was covered under manufacturer’s warranty.

The product, in the report: Samsung Top Load Washer, Aqua Jet, 4.8 Cu. Feet, White, stainless steel drum, 4 speeds, 11 wash cycles, 27.0(w) X 43.8(h) X 29.2(d)
I purchased Samsung Top Load Washer only 3 years ago. The past several months I started to notice little brown spots on my cleaned clothes. It looks like someone through dirt into the washer. So, I then self cleaned it, which then made it worse!! I then realized how much mold and mildew was in their. It was ll over the bottom of my machine!!! We self washed it and cleaned 5 times just the last day or so. We took apart the machine to find the location of this mold and clean it. There was a ton of black sludge in the agitator in the bottom and all inside the walls of the basin. I decided to go online after finding this to do some research and see if others have had problems. To my surprise, disgust and disappointment I have learned this is a VERY VERY common issue with this machine that Samsung is not taking care of and is ignoring most consumers. There are hundreds and thousands of people that have wrote to Samsung and requested action. Community blogs and social media pages have been created about this disgraceful product and the zero accountability by Samsung.
I have a 13 month old daughter and I wash all her cloths, blankets and toys in this washer! This is a tremendous health hazard!!!! This mold and mildew can possibly be causing breathing and health issues!!!! I am sure it is also breading a ton of bacteria!!
I have done all I can to rectify this issue! I have always done regular maintenance and self cleaning. I do not use too much detergent or any fabric softener. This is disgusting that Samsung is trying to blame the consumer. It is really a tremendous fraud! Samsung needs to take responsibility for this product being poorly designed and stop blaming the consumer! There are thousands of people with this issue!!!! DISGUSTING.

The product, in the report: Samsung Washing Machine, 4.2 cu ft. large capacity top load washer, glass top model: WA422PRHDWR/AA purchased March 2014
Back in June I started noticing “dirt” on our clothes as they came out of the washer. Light colored clothes were coming out with smears of “dirt” all over them. A load of sheets were ruined and plenty of nice white blouses and dressy pants. I thought maybe dirt or food had gotten into the washer and that was the cause. After cleaning out the washer thoroughly however, this kept happening to new loads of wash. I ran the Pure Cycle at least 6 times in 24 hours to try to clean it and the dirt/mold just keep coming out and collecting in the basin. I also wiped out/cleaned/scrubbed the detergent pull outs and everything else I could get to inside the washer. Since none of this was helping the problem, I contacted Samsung support looking for suggestions, or to have it repaired. I never heard back from them. In an attempt to problem solve this myself, I came upon the Samsung Community online and found a long thread (38 pages!) of people having the same problem as myself. It was then that I realized this was a mold problem, not dirt! Quite disturbing!!! My son and husband have had terrible “allergies” lately and my son recently had to start using a preventative inhaler. I’m sure having his clothes/sheets/towels/everything washed in mold for who knows how long contributed to that problem! After finding the community, and since I still hadn’t heard a word from Samsung, and couldn’t get ahold of them I took the bottom of the basin out and everything was caked in mold and build up (see pictures)! We thoroughly scrubbed everything off that we could get to under the basin, and in the hose and soaked it all in bleach, but I cannot be sure it’s not hiding somewhere else that we couldn’t see or reach. This seems to only be a temporary fix, as it will likely build up again over time since you can hear the water sitting under the drum. We have always used the proper HE detergent on this machine and it is very disappointing that after only a few years we will need to purchase another new washing machine. We spent a lot of money on this machine and it’s going to have to be trash, unless Samsung can fix it!

On June 30, 2017, we purchased a Samsung Washer and Dryer set from Home Depot. While we elected not to buy the extended warranty, we didn’t anticipate the lid of the washer machine breaking apart with pieces flying. Around mid July, 2018, these lid of the washer machine started to bend and break apart with sharp plastic pieces flying. The lid started breaking apart on the right back corner. I’ve never seen anything like this in 58 years of being alive. I contacted Samsung and Home Depot. Both stated the warranty was out (by two weeks). I ended up paying for a new lid (340.39) on August 3, 2018. I was in the throws of some medical conditions and couldn’t follow up. Since I’m home recuperating, now is the time to do so. I’ve done research this am prior to this report. Two other consumers have written comments on the same problem. This lid is dangerous. I know Samsung has other recalls in effect and I do believe they are for some of the same problems. Washer machine lids coming apart and sharp objects flying = dangerous.

The product, in the report: Samsung Active Wash model WA48J7770AP
We bought our Samsung washer (WA48J7770AP/A2) from Lowe’s in late 2015/early 2016 (estimated). This was before the first safety recall was issued for the lid coming off. We recently noticed a bad odor coming from the machine. I thought it was an incorrectly placed drain pipe, but after resetting the pipe, the smell persisted. Within the last month or so we have been pulling laundry out with a black slime/sludge residue on it. The same thing that is in the bottom of the basin after every wash cycle. I consulted the manual and tried cleaning the machine with the cleaning cycle and vinegar. That didn’t work. Our family has started sneezing a lot lately, getting constant cold like symptoms and there have been two cases of upper respiratory infections in our home during this recent time. After multiple cleaning and sanitizing cycles, the smell and grime continued.
I went to a Samsung community message board, and I found over 47 pages of posts dating back to 2012 that documented the same issue. Samsung representatives have denied any issues on the boards and consistently document it as user error. We clean our machine, don’t use too much detergent and don’t use fabric softener. After reading the message boards, I learned that I need to take apart the pulsator to clean the mildew/sludge out of the bottom of the machine. I took apart the pulsator today and there was a large amount of mildew and grime built up in the bottom of the machine and the bottom of the pulsator. It was disgusting. Also, the pulsator bolt had almost completely loosened itself due to what must be some other issue with the machine. It wasn’t even hand tight. I scrubbed and sanitized the pulsator and components, but there is clear mold/mildew growth between the two parts of the pulsator that cannot be taken apart or cleaned. I put the machine back together and ran two more deep clean cycles, but the odor is not going away and there is still mildew/sludge coming from the pulsator. I have asthma, so this sludge could have a very bad impact on my health.
This is a clear design error that Samsung isn’t willing to accept responsibility for. I have also contacted them about the issue.
I have taken photos of the machine, sludge/mildew and what clothes look like after going though a cleaning cycle in the machine. You can clearly see the black specs on the clothing.

The product, in the report: Samsung Washing machine (27” W x29 1/4 “ D x 43 7/8 “ H white
On September 20, 2018 I ran normal load of laundry in my Samsung washer, using the normal cycle I have used many times in the past. Nearing the apparent final medium spin cycle, I heard what seemed a very loud banging and shaking of the machine. I have never heard such a loud racket as this before. After a few minutes the cycle ended. When I went back to remove the clothes from the machine, I noticed a pool of water extending out into my basement area. I found it odd. I checked the back of the machine to see if a hose was loose or something was detached. There was nothing appearing to be disconnected at that time and nothing seemed wet on the floor under the washer. The following week I decided to see if the machine was broken by attempting to fill it with water. As soon as the machine began to fill an error message appeared and it stopped filling. But all the water came pouring out onto the floor and back into the basement. I called for service to the unit and was told that the pump was shredded due most likely due to the excessive vibrations that happened. The machine was subject to a recall regarding the incidents of lid failure. I had that recall notice addressed by having repairs made to the lid on11/22/2016. I personally did not have a lid failure fortunately. I have scheduled a new pump to be installed on the washer in the coming weeks, but now I am concerned about the future safety of using this washer again.

The product, in the report: Samsung Top Load Washer 4.2 CU Product is leaving black specs on laundry and in washing machine after every washing. this has been happening for at least six months.
I originally noticed some small brown spots on our clothes after they were washed. They seemed to come out dirtier than they went into the washing machine. I then did every self cleaning imaginable. I did this several times and still found the small black spots. I cleaned every nook and cranny I could find. Still spotsThen I did more research and found a community of people with the same issue! Could this mold/mildew be the cause of my husbands breathing problems? I’m completely sickened by this. I’ve always done any regular maintenance of the machine that is recommended. I never use too much detergent. I’m mad that I let this happen without knowing but really how could I have known it was like that? So disgusted by Samsung as it seems according to the community on their website that they do not back their products and blame the consumer for improper care. I just want them to take responsibility for this issue as it is not a consumer problem but a flaw in the design of their product. There are numerous complaints regarding Samsung Top Load Washer.

The washer has a stagnant smell and leaves flakes on the clothes and in the tub. Refer to currently 47 pages of this problem from multiple owners:
[REDACTED]
Ours was initially corrected in Sep 2017 by a technician who knew of the problem and replaced the tub saying you can’t clean between the double wall tub. He stated to not use as much detergent, basically about a tablespoon. This is well below the detergent manufacturer’s recommendation and I question if the clothes get clean as they should, although the primary concern is the smell and mold/mildew flakes. I’ve ran clean cycles but the flakes are beginning to reappear and the smell of the stagnant water is starting. As numerous others have stated there is a real concern for the mold and mildew on supposedly clean clothes and linens, not to mention the appearance is disgusting.

The product, in the report: Samsung Top Load Washer - Model #WA50F9A7DSP/A2
We began noticing brown/black chunks in our wash and some staining on clothes. I called the Samsung help line and they gave me a list of things to check such as: make sure the washer is level, make sure the washer is draining properly, make sure your water is clean, don’t put too much detergent in the washer, etc... All of those were just fine. They then recommended performing a self clean cycle with first pouring a cup of bleach into the tub. We did that and more black gunk came out. They then said to put a cup of vinegar in the tub and let it sit. We did that - still more black gunk. None of these “fixes” worked. I started doing some searching online and come to find out, this issue is very prevalent with owners of this washer -there are currently 47 pages of people reporting issues here: [REDACTED] Apparently the agitator is poorly designed and it traps water, allowing copious amounts of mold and mildew to grow.
I then emailed every executive @ Samsung I could find and got a call back from [REDACTED] at the president’s office. She answered nothing about the washer but insisted that a technician come out and inspect the washer. From the forum posts, anyone that has had a technician come out has gotten any satisfactory resolution and they have had to pay for the visit. I also sent [REDACTED] the url to the forum thread but she had not and would not review it. She also had no knowledge of any other reported incidents related to mold/mildew with this washer.
So me and a host of others are stuck with a washing machine spitting out mold and mildew from a faulty design by Samsung that they refuse to own up to and fix for the consumer.
