The product, in the report: Registered Pyrex Casserole Dish. 9” x 13”. (USA C233 32 17 is imprinted on dish) Per Email from Submitter: “I believe the model number was USA C233 32 17. That was what was imprinted on the bottom of the dish. “
Dear Sir or Madame:
On or about December 22, 2017, my husband and I purchased three (3) Pyrex 9” x 13” casserole dishes from the Walmart located at 14821 Ben C Pratt/6 Mile Cypress Pkwy, Fort Myers in Florida 33912.
These were bought so we could prepare side dishes for Christmas dinner for ourselves and our extended family. We cooked our standard sweetcorn casserole dish in one of our new dishes. The second time we used this dish was the next day, when I reheated the casserole leftovers in it.
Upon reheating the leftovers in the oven, I removed and gently placed the referenced Pyrex dish on the stovetop to rest before serving. Within moments the entire casserole dish exploded, leaving shattered glass and corn casserole all throughout the kitchen. Thankfully, the majority of the glass exploded in the direction of the wall. Fortunately, I was not cut seriously but was cut nevertheless. If the dish had been facing a slightly different direction, or if I had been leaning in over the stove (which I often am), the outcome would most certainly have been much more serious.
The accompanying pictures are self explanatory. (Update - please note, I am having trouble uploading the photos to your website, but I have a wealth of photographic evidence available.) Needless to say, I now do not intend to use the other two pyrex dishes we purchased.
Many Thanks, [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Pyrex® Simply Store® 2 Cup Round Dish W/ White Lid
I have a 2 cup Pyrex glass bowl containing a potato stored in a refrigerator. I removed the bowl and place within the microwave for 1 minute and 15 seconds. After heating up my food, I removed the bowl and walked to over to my desk. I removed the lid and begin eating my potato. Yes, plain and tasteless. After about 10 seconds the bowl shattered all over my desk with a nice loud pop noise. My coworker heard the noise and walked over to inquire about the noise. I was surprised and lucky that none of the flying glass entered my eye, as I was sitting a foot away from the soon to be fragmentation bomb. I laugh called my coworker over to laugh as well and carefully cleaned up the mess.

The product, in the report: Pyrex 9.5 Fluted Clear Glass Pie Plate Model Number: 1085800
Purchased two Pyrex 9.5 Fluted Clear Glass Pie Plate on Thursday 12/7/2017 from Meijers Grocery located in Fraser MI. On Sunday, 12/10/2017 I proceeded to make the following meat pie.
Placed one package of [REDACTED] pie crust in each one of the new pie plates. Added 1 1/4 lbs raw ground beef that had been mixed with 3 TBLS of [REDACTED] Onion Mix. Layered 12 ounces of raw (not frozen) hash browns on top of meat. Layered 1 cup of sharp cheddar cheese on top of raw hash browns. Covered with the remaining raw [REDACTED] pie crust. Baked in preheated 350 degree [REDACTED] oven for approximately 65 minutes. Left both pie plates in oven for additional five minutes and then carried over to dinner table.
Completed eating all but one piece of meat pie from one of the pie plates and had one full meat pie completely cooked remaining. My daughter-in-law picked up the full meat pie and was carrying over to set unto my kitchen island. As she carried it to set it down the Pyrex 9.5 Fluted Clear Glass Pie Plate EXPLODED IN MID AIR. Glass and meat pie went everywhere. Glass exploded all over the kitchen island, under the fridge, stove, even into my disposal. There was no escaping the explosion. The glass cut my daughter-in-laws hand.
When I checked the internet later that evening, I found there are many reported incidents of exploding Pyrex. Pyrex needs to come with a warning label identifying the dangers of using these glass products in the home until they can formulate a safe glass.

Hurt, no treatment Made Dec 3, 2017, sent to the company Dec 11, 2017, published by CPSC Dec 26, 2017
The product, in the report: Round glass container with a blue plastic lid and a diameter of 6 inches.
I took a round glass Pyrex container full of soup out the refrigerator, placed it in the microwave, and heated it for two minutes. The soup was at room temperature so I heated it for another two minutes. At that point the soup was medium hot while the container was almost unbearable to the touch. I ate the soup on my wooden desk and left it sitting empty. After four hours, at room temperature and without being disturbed in any way, the container shattered in a spectacular manner. It was literally a small explosion sending glass shrapnel more than 4 feet away and giving me a small cut above my left knee. I left the remaining glass untouched so I could take pictures later. An hour had passed and quiet but audible ticking sounds started coming from the glass at an interval of about 10 seconds. These glass Pyrex containers are labeled as microwave safe but given this incident I am now certain that they are anything but safe.

The product, in the report: Pyrex Three rectangular with curved edges and plastic lids. 8211-VPC. Made in USA
On Nov. 3, 2017 three rounded corner rectangular dishes with plastic covers fell out of a kitchen cabinet onto the hardwood floor and exploded into thousands of shards of glass. Dishes were Pyrex. I’ve never used in oven. Lids say safe in dishwasher, refrigerator, freezer and microwave. Cabinet is low to floor, glass shard cut my leg. It’s ok. No medical treatment needed, but glass pieces everywhere. Thousands of pieces. These 3 containers had been sitting in cupboard were clean. As I tried to take them out of cabinet somehow they slipped into the floor breaking into shards of glass. Very dangerous.
Purchased the set of Pyrex storage containers at Costco several years ago. Lids say: Pyrex 8212- UPC made in U.S. A.

The product, in the report: Pyrex Easy Grab 8-Piece Glass Bakeware and Food Storage Set. The pan that exploded was the biggest one. I don’t remember the exact dimensions, but it was about as typically big as a pan that someone might bake a batch of brownies in.
I was baking yams in the largest pan. After I took the pan out of the oven and set it on top of the oven, it exploded. Shards of glass scattered all over the kitchen, as far as seven feet away. I am very lucky that I wasn’t hurt and especially lucky that a shard of glass didn’t end up in my eye! I used the product the way it is supposed to be used. I had it for about four years and hadn’t had problems before this. It was the largest pan of this set: Pyrex Easy Grab 8-Piece Glass Bakeware and Food Storage Set.

The product, in the report: 9x13 pyrex with handles on the ends where you can put your fingers through, approx. 2 years old
My 9x13 Pyrex dish exploded 10/8/17 when I attempted to take it out of our dishwasher. It had run its cycle the night before and was no longer hot, my dish had a handle on edge and I just grabbed it and pulled and immediately it exploded shards everywhere spanning a 3-5 foot radius. I screamed for my husbAnd to secure dogs and kids and clean me a way out as I was barefoot and my right arm had 6 bleeding spots and my left hand had a shard centered in the middle superficially but painful. This is beyond unacceptable I keep picturing what would have happened if my daughter (5) had been standing next to me. I spoke to pyrex who is replacing dish (with a metal one) and is giving me $50 credit towards purchase on their website.

The product, in the report: Pyrex 9” x 13” glass baking dish
At 1:20am I heard a crashing sound. Upon looking nothing was evident. Later the same day I opened a lower kitchen cabinet and glass spilled everywhere slivers and shards. My 9 x 13 glass Pyrex baking dish exploded on the shelf in the middle of the night! It hadn’t been used for weeks and had no damage. I researched and found this is not an uncommon problem. Why is it still being manufactured? I did find that [REDACTED] manufactures bakeware w/borosilicate - I’m trying that.

The product, in the report: Rectangular glass dish approximately 6”x10”
I recently purchased an 18 piece set of Pyrex storage containers and a set of Pyrex mixing bowls through Amazon from World Kitchens LLC. I used the rectangle dish to freeze yogurt as the product indicated it was freezer safe. It was in my freezer 2 days before we ate the yogurt and sat the rinsed dish in the dishwasher. The dishwasher was not started. The next day, with the dishwasher interior at room temperature and the door closed, the dish LOUDLY and spontaneously exploded all over the inside of my dishwasher as my husband sat reading the newspaper at our kitchen island. There were shards of glass everywhere. My husband and elderly Mother both are on blood thinners. What if this had exploded in their hands instead?? I must emphasize, this dish was sitting undisturbed and at room temperature when it spontaneously shattered. It had never been exposed to heat, only cold. I’ve asked for a refund from Amazon. It is extremely irresponsible and negligent of this company to allow this product on the market given the number of horror stories I’m now reading online about similar product failures.

The product, in the report: Pyrex Large Rectangular Glassware Baking Dish. 9 x 13 in. 3 Qt.
On July 15, 2017, I had an alarming and dangerous incident. I cooked a salmon patty in my Pyrex glassware dish at 450 degrees for 15 minutes. I removed the dish from the oven, and before I had the chance to put it down, the glassware violently exploded in my hand, sending shards of glass flying toward my face and throughout my kitchen and the adjoining hallway.
My stove, countertop, kitchen floor, hallway floor were covered in large pieces of shattered glass and small shards of it, everywhere. Fortunately, I was wearing my reading glasses, which I believe protected my eyes from injury.
I attempted to clean up the mess, but the glassware was still hot and burned my fingers and hands. The heat also caused it to adhere to my kitchen floor, making it very difficult to remove. On six separate occasions since the incident, I have stepped (in my stocking feet) on remaining pieces of glass that were missed during the clean-up.
My fully-cooked meal, other pieces of glassware in the vicinity of the incident, my oven mitt used for clean-up and the nearby sponge had to be thrown out, in case they had shards of glass in them that I could accidentally ingest at a later date. Clean-up took about 20 minutes or so. I had to recook a meal in alternate cookware, clean the counter diligently, and sweep and mop my floor. All of this cost me time, money, expensive food, material goods, upset, burned fingers and hands, and a singed kitchen floor. It frightened me greatly and has made me feel unsafe in my own house.
I am appalled that Pyrex is aware of this explosion issue in their now-altered Pyrex dishes, yet continues to defend their products. I no longer have faith in their company or products and will make certain my loved ones are aware of the hazards involved in using these glassware dishes.
Thank you for following up on my complaint.

The product, in the report: Pyrex glassware, loaf pan.
I cooked salmon burgers in a PYREX loaf pan that rendered a lot of fat, the bottom was covered with liquid. I cooked it at 350 for approx 30 min. I set the dish on the stove top eye (that was not on) and while trying to remove the burgers with a spatula, the dish exploded. I used the dish according to directions and have done this exact dinner, with the exact dish before. I have had the dish approx 1.5 years. PYREX glassware presents a PUBLIC DANGER AND SHOULD BE STOPPED.

The product, in the report: One-cup size Pyrex glass bowl with blue plastic cover. Used for food storage
I stored mashed sweet potatoes in the cup-size Pyrex bowl and placed it in the office fridge. At lunchtime I took out the bowl from the fridge about 30-40 minutes before my lunchtime and set it on the table where my assistant and I eat lunch.
Thirty-forty minutes later I removed the potatoes from the Pyrex container and placed the potatoes in another (non-Pyrex) microwavable dish which contained the rest of my lunch. I heated my lunch. The Pyrex dish remained on the table and away from the microwave oven. At no time did I put the Pyrex inside the oven.
My assistant then heated her lunch, and we sat down to eat. About five minutes after we began eating we heard an explosion. The Pyrex dish had “exploded” and shards were all over the table. We were not injured, but shaken because of the possibility that one of the shards could’ve flown into our eyes. I will no longer buy Pyrex glassware.

I cooked sweet potato enchiladas according to a recipe I had made once before. This time, I used my new Pyrex 9x13 glass baking dish. The product, in the report: 9 x 15? baking dish, rectangular baking pan, clear, Pyrex
I had two rectangular baking dishes in the oven with meat loaves in each. I removed the first when the baking time was done. I inspected the meat to make sure it was cooked through. It was fine. I was just about to remove the second dish from the oven when we heard the explosion. The second dish exploded in the oven. The boiling hot meat juices dropped to the oven bottom. Thank goodness I was not reaching for the dish when it exploded. I could have easily sustained burns or cuts. We had to throw out the meat loaf as it was covered in tiny glass bits. The oven bottom had broken glass everywhere, walls splattered. My husband was able to remove the first layer of stove bottom plating to pick up glass and clean the surface. But, he was not able to remove the next layer of metal above the heating elements. There are still chunks of glass below. We can no longer use the bottom drawer, glass could fall into the items.

The product, in the report: Purple Pyrex 9X13 baking pan.
I was using a Pyrex brand 9 by 13 baking pan in my oven at 400 degrees. I started to open the oven door to look in and check on the food and there was a very loud exploding noise. The baking pan exploded and a large piece of it hit the inside of my oven door shattering the glass on the inside of the oven door. My only injury is a very small cut on the underside of my foot where I stepped on a piece of glass as I backed away from the oven. The potential for serious injury was certainly there as I have two small children who are often helping me cook. If this had happened after I removed the pan and had it on the counter it would have been right at eye level with the kids. Or if I had the oven door fully open, glass would have come out and hit me. We now have to replace our oven as I have been told it is not safe to use with the inside glass on the door being broken. This is an unexpected expense that will be a financial hardship for my husband and I at this time.

MY PYREX GLASS BAKING DISH EXPLODED IN THE OVEN. I was baking stuffed merlitons (squash) in the oven at 350 degrees. The medium sized rectangular dish was room temperature (it had NOT been in the refrigerator or freezer) when I placed it in the oven. After 30 minutes of baking, I turned the oven off and left the dish in the oven (oven door was closed). Approximately 5 minutes later I heard glass breakage, similar to dropping glass on a hard floor. I looked inside of the oven and the baking dish had shattered leaving shards and small pieces of glass in the oven. My Thermadour oven is less than 3 years old.

No one hurt Made Mar 21, 2017, sent to the company Mar 31, 2017, published by CPSC Apr 21, 2017
The product, in the report: Clear Pyrex Easy Grab Oblong (9”x13”) glass baking dish w/handles.
On March 18, 2017, we prepared three chicken breasts for cooking. We pre-heated the oven to 350°, lined a 9x13 Pyrex Easy Grab glass baking dish with aluminum foil, placed the chicken breasts in the dish, covered the dish with aluminum foil and placed the dish in the pre-heated oven.
Approximately one hour went by and we heard a loud noise coming from the oven. We opened the oven and found that the Pyrex glass dish had exploded in our oven. The glass dish had shattered and was in tiny pieces all over the oven. (We have saved the glass shards for research purposes, if necessary.)
The dish was approximately one year old. The oven temperature was double checked with an oven thermometer to ensure we had not made any errors. The temperature was accurate.
We went on-line and read that numerous people have had this happen, but there appears to be no recourse or recalls on this defective product. People have been injured because the dish has exploded in their hands when removing the dish from the oven. Another lady had her oven door practically blown off. A dish exploded after being removed from the oven and sitting on the counter to cool, sending flying glass shards all over the room. These are just three examples out of thousands.
According to the on-line article “Exploding Pyrex”, approximately 19 years ago (1998), the Corning Company not only sold the formula for making the glass, but also the Pyrex name. The new company “World Kitchen”, has altered the formula of the glass components that go into the glass to make the Pyrex products. Pyrex made prior to 1998 was made from a material called Borosilicate glass - it was indestructible. The Chinese altered the formula and switched from using borosilicate glass to tempered soda lime glass, which is an inferior glass compared to borosilicate glass. The company is apparently not an American company and has avoided any repercussions due to a “fine print” disclaimer.
If you buy a Pyrex dish, the label on the front says oven safe, freezer safe, microwave safe. The Pyrex reputation was established years ago -- when you purchased a Pyrex product, there was a sense of trust -- not so any more. Americans are still purchasing the Pyrex dishes based on the past reputation that no longer exists.
There apparently have been numerous complaints to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) but nothing has been done to appropriately warn the American Consumer. This is where we are hopeful that CPSC will take appropriate action and expose this dangerous product and remove this product from being sold in America.
We consider this to be a serious issue and only desire the safety of others.
Thanking you in advance for your assistance.

The product, in the report: The pyrex dish exploded so I don’t have any specific product information. It was a square pyrex dish, about 8x8 with handles on two sides. The handles had an indentation where a blue plastic lid fit over the dish for storing food in the fridge. I think I purchased it about 10 years ago from Target.
I put a square pyrex baking dish into the oven with a turkey breast. I added a small amount of water in the bottom of the dish. It baked for 20 minutes of so, I think at maybe 375, and I went to add more water and the dish shattered into several small pieces all over the oven. Luckily the dish was inside the oven when it exploded, and my face was not near the dish. It was a mess to cleanup. This was a relatively new baking dish, purchased within the last 10 years or so, maybe less. i have an older pyrex rectangular pan that I have used for years and never had any problem.
I googled “exploding pyrex”, and got a bunch of hits - apparently I am not the first person this has happened to, some people have been seriously hurt. From what I read, the company that manufacturers pyrex changed the formula to make the pyrex glass some years ago, and that was when these problems arose. This product should really be taken off the market. I thank my lucky stars that I was not hurt.

The product, in the report: Pyrex brown glass 6inX10 inX 2 in deep
This Pyrex Baking dish measured about 6inches X 10inches and was approximately 2 inches deep. The dish was brown glass and was many years old. My husband was baking a pork loin roast in it. He baked it at 400 degrees for 40 minutes. He decided to turn on the broiler for about 2 minutes. The broiler unit was about 6 inches away from the roast.
On completion, he turned off the oven and extracted the dish placing it on a cold burner on the stove top. After approximately 45 seconds the dish exploded with a loud cracking sound showering glass in all directions 4 to 6 inches. The pieces were shards and of course hot. Picking them up became doubly dangerous because of their shard like edges, splinters and due to the heat. No one was injured by the explosion, but I did burn a finger trying to pick up one of the shards.
It was a startling event, needless to say, and could have had much more dire consequences had some one been close when it exploded. Concerned because I’m not sure what triggered the event. We have other pieces of Pyrex of similar vintage. I know the broiler use is discouraged, but it was for such a brief duration. Not many folks remember manufacturers recommendations 20 or 30 years down the road.

On Sunday evening 12/18/2016 I was preparing to bake pasta in my Pyrex 9x13 glass dish, purchased 11/15. I had cooked the pasta and drained it and spooned it into the Pyrex dish on my counter. The dish had not been heated or cooled, it came out of my cabinet. I turned around to get the jar of sauce to put over the pasta before I put it in the oven. Before I turned back to the dish the whole dish exploded with the pasta and cheese inside. It ttotally startled me, it was like a gun went off. Glass went everywhere in my kitchen, in my vent and disposal. It took hours to clean and it was a complete miracle that there where no injuries. We reported the incident to Pyrex and they offered us a new dish, like I would want that! This was a horrendous experience and could have caused incredible damage and injury. I have 4 young grandchildren. I can’t even fathom what I would have done if they were in my kitchen. I know how to handle cookware, I taught teach injury prevention to child care providers for many years. I researched Pyrex dishes exploding and it’s apparently been happening for many years. Why is this product not recalled?! I used Pyrex for over 40 years, never again. Unbelievable.

Pyrex needs to go back to its roots using the borosilicate glass instead of the cheap chinese [REDACTED] soda lime glass. My baby girl could have been seriously injured last night as I had a brand new 13X9 Pyrex dish explode. She was within seconds of having hot grease and glass blown all over her. Let me tell you what an ugly conversation this would be for someone at your legal department had this happened. I thank God she had just stepped away from the stove. And yes it was Pyrex because I have the matching dish that I am going to trash in my cupboard. I will never again purchase this crap. I guess it will take someone becoming seriously hurt before this company takes notice. SMH

I put a casserole into a Pyrex casserole baking dish at room temperature. I then put it into the oven at 375F. Five minutes later there was a loud bang. When I looked into the oven, I saw that the entire back corner of the casserole dish had broken off, ruining the casserole and leaving my oven full of broken glass.

I was baking bread pudding in a Pyrex lasgana style pan, and it exploded in a pre-heated 350 degree oven. I know the oven wasn’t too hot because I had a vintage Pyrex dish in there as well cooking brownies. The pyrex dish was not nicked/scratched or damaged in anyway before entering the oven.

EXPLODING PYREX!!!
okaaay, so we were eating dinner, lasagna baked in a 9 by 13 glass pan made of pyrex. We had the dish out of the oven for at least an hour and it was cool, and it just exploded into a million pieces all over the table! WHAT THE HECK!! Glass and lasagna all over...we had to throw dinner out and scrub the kitchen. We threw away the bread and butter and had to dump the drinks. The thing just exploded! I am not exaggerating. We had little glass silvers in our hands and we feel like it is in our hair. We had our glasses on so no eye injury. The thing had cooled a bit and was sitting quite peacefully on my table. So much for the pyrex hype! It is very dangerous. A little internet research revealed this was happening to a lot of people, over the last 10 years or so. Beware! My pan was brand new.

The product, in the report: Square 8 inch purple glass Pyrex brand baking dish with built in handles on either side. It has a rubber type lid that was not being used at the time. I had 2 of them so the information is taken from the “surviving” baking dish that was not in use at the time of the incident. It is labeled: 222 MADE IN USA 22 05*** PYREX R (with a circle around the R) 8 IN x 8 IN- 20cm x 20 cm MICROWAVE SAFE NO BROILER NO STOVE TOP
We were baking fish (cod filets) in a foil pack laid in a purple glass 8 x 8 inch Pyrex baking dish at 450 degrees. After close to 20 minutes we heard a loud noise and discovered the pan had shattered in the oven. Another packet in a clear 8 inch glass pyrex pan in the oven at the same time was fine. I have had the clear baking dish considerably anger, perhaps over 20 years and the purple less than 10 years. The broiler was not on, the oven had preheated. No one was injured fortunately as it happened while the oven was closed. We allowed it to cool, picked up the pieces and discarded them. The pan said it was microwave safe, no broiler, no range top. It did not say anything about a temperature maximum. I have another baking dish just like it so will definitely not use it in the oven anymore, but rather just as a serving dish. I’m not sure I would even trust it in the microwave

I was baking 4 salmon fillets in a clear 3 qt. Pyrex baking dish. The recipe called for 425 degrees 15-20 min. After 20 minutes I removed the dish from the oven and sat in on top of the stove to cool. Within about 30 seconds, the Pyrex dish burst apart, leaving glass all over the stove and floor. Fortunately there were no small children in the room at that time. The sides of the dish broke into large and the bottom broke apart in more of a honeycomb pattern of pieces about 3/8 to 1/2 inch in size. The entire dish was completely destroyed.

The product, in the report: Pyrex Amethyst Glass baking dish. I think it was the 8x8 dish.
I preheated my oven to 450 degrees. I put a Pyrex Amethyst Glass baking dish with a breast of chicken in the oven for approximately 12 minutes. When I went to check on the chicken’s temperature, I used a pot holder in each hand and as I was taking it out of the oven the glass shattered into hundreds (maybe thousands) of tiny shards. There were large pieces of glass left in the oven. Nothing was left in my hands and the pot holders had many tiny shards of glass. Glass went everywhere. I was in shock and didn’t realize until minutes later that my toe was bleeding. (It wasn’t a serious cut.) I’m very conscientious in the kitchen and this was a disturbing incident. I’m hesitant/scared to ever cook with glass again.

The product, in the report: Pyrex - Clear Glass Oven and Microwave Safe Dish Casserole
Today my sister was baking chicken in the oven using our oven safe pyrex casserole dish at a temperature of 350 when she heard a loud “Boom” from the other room. She opened the oven and found the casserole dish had exploded into a billion pieces. The force of the explosion had glass shards embedded deep in the chicken.
?It is not fair nor safe to sell a product that can literally explode in someones hands possibly sending hot sharp shards of glass into their eyes or face. ?The accusations made by Pyrex that it is their consumers who are misusing this product are absolutely outrageous, we are not stupid, we know not to use the dish and expose it to vast temperature changes. There are over a thousand reports of this very same incident and all time and time again point to the faulty product.
We have never known this to happen with these dishes, but now that we do we are going to stay away from all of these products and encourage our friends and family to do the same. ? Pyrex should be ashamed of themselves for selling such a hazardous product.

A Pyrex brand glass baking pan spontaneously shattered to pieces. This 3qt/2.8L rectangular glass baking pan shattered about 2am in the morning, sitting in the drawer of an electric rangetop/oven. I suspect the cause to be from accidentally resting one half of the Pyrex pan on an active stovetop heating coil for several minutes. However, more than a day elapsed from the time of the accidental heating to the shattered pan.

I recently had a pyrex baking dish shatter while I was trying to wash it. The dish had been used to hold salmon that had been smoked on a grill, cooled and refrigerated for several hours. It was then set out at room temperature for an hour or so before being placed in a 250 deg oven for ~ 20 minutes, it was then set out at room temperature to serve dinner and sat for several hours before being washed. There was absolutely no thermal shock or bumping of the dish. it just literally EXPLODED in my hands while I was washing it. Literally thousands of glass shards went all over my kitchen. Fortunately the bulk of the pieces fell into a washtub in the sink. Luckily I only incurred a small cut and no one was otherwise injured even during cleanup which was treacherous, especially since occurred at a party with more than a dozen guests present.

The product, in the report: Pyrex 10 x 15 pan
On Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, 2015, I was cooking a turkey, ham and several casseroles at 350. I was using a relatively new Pyrex 10 x 15 pan (purchased at Fred Meyers) for the bread stuffing. About 25 minutes into putting it into the oven, I smelled food burning. Opened up the oven to discover that the Pyrex baking dish had exploded, scattering glass shards of every size throughout the oven, on top of the other uncovered food, and down into the crevices of the gas vents. The entire dinner was ruined since glass is not a recommended dietary component. Cost of food lost for Thanksgiving dinner and having to replace food, as well as a new baking dish, is $220. The product clearly did not meet the standard of care. I emailed the broken dish, stuffing and all, to World Kitchen (Pyrex) as requested along with documentation and photos. Not surprisingly, I have heard NOTHING from these people. What should be most concerning to the State of Oregon attorney general and to the corporate officers of Fred Meyers (because all claims are denied by WK), is that the explosion and penetration into other nearby foodstuffs posed a tremendously serious health and safety risk to individuals.
After nearly 2 months of stalling and hearing nothing from WK, I began to research similar incidents and found that PYREX dishes quite commonly explode - and injure - people now that the company has switched to using soda-lime glass instead of borosilicate, as had been used for years.
I want the cost of my food reimbursed and the cost of purchasing another baking dish -- a safe one. And I want you to notify consumers about this incredible danger that PYREX poses -- too many of us think of the old Pyrex product and don’t realize the newer ones are NOT THE SAME!

I had not used it against any rules, it was not scratched or chipped, in fact it was only the 5-6th time i’ve used it in the 10 months i’ve owned it. I didn’t expose it to any quick temperature extremes, nothing like that. Luckily it happened inside the oven or else glas would’ve shot all over my kitchen. like i said, it was Pyrex brand, i bought it as a set with another smaller dish about 10-12 months ago, and used this one about 6 times or less

The product, in the report: Pyrex®Easy Grab® 3-qt Oblong Baking Dish (13”x9”)
I am writing to you regarding a recent issue I had where a Pyrex dish shattered. The 13”x9” Pyrex dish, approximately 3 years old, was in the oven at 400F and when removed and placed on top of the stove (metal grates, not a ceramic solid surface), it exploded into thousands of pieces.
I have a degree in Ceramic Engineering with several patents for glass-ceramics used for thermal expansion applications and I can state for a fact that this failure was indicative of a tempered glass failure and not of a high temperature thermally resistant glass failure. It shattered into thousands of pieces which is consistent with tempered safety glass. Safety glass, used for car windows and sliding glass doors, is not meant to be used for high thermal shock applications. This is extremely dangerous and I found no information on the manufacturer’s website, World Kitchen, regarding how to use Pyrex safely or recommended temperatures/conditions for use.
I have used the dish many, many times at 400F without issue. To my knowledge, there were no chips or cracks which I do check for regularly.

My wife, [REDACTED] was cooking three chicken breasts in a Pyrex baking dish at 400 degrees in our conventional oven. She removed them after 30 minutes. There were no other liquids or sauces in the pan, other than a little butter and the natural juices of the chicken. She used two cloth pot holders to grasp the dish in the oven, pulled it from the oven and turned to place it on the kitchen counter. While she was turning around, the dish simply exploded in her hands, throwing chunks and shards of glass everywhere. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but it was terrifying for my wife and the large chunks of glass damaged our flooring. Glass flew as far as 15 feet from where she was standing when the dish exploded. We are grateful that no one was injured but that was certainly a possibility.

The product, in the report: 10x15 clear glass baking dish
(11/26/2015) The consumer stated that she was baking bread stuffing in the dish. The setting of the oven was set at 350 degrees. About twenty-five minutes after she put the stuffing in the oven, she smelled food burning. She opened the oven and discovered that the baking dish had shattered. The sides of the casserole had exploded. Particles of glass was on the floor of the oven. There were also large shards of glass in the oven.
(11/26/2015) The consumer emailed the firm. She received a response on 11/27 advising the consumer to send in every piece of glass including food that was stuck to the glass. The consumer also sent photos.
The consumer sent several inquires to [REDACTED], the Consumer Response Representative. The contact phone number is [REDACTED].Her email address is [REDACTED]. The consumer was advised that the product was received at the lab. The consumer was advised that she would be contacted when results are received form the lab.
The consumer added Pyrex glass from shattered dish was found at 3 levels inside conventional gas oven, and all food, including turkey and ham, and other casseroles had to be tossed because of glass particles throughout the oven.
The consumer also added the manufacturer sent her a letter saying the 4 quart Pyrex dish had been braised and chilled prior to baking. The consumer noted the information was false, and her 10x15 dish holds only 16 cups and it went directly from room temperature to the oven. The consumer also noted nothing was chilled or braised in the process, and [mfrs] are flat out lairs.

The product, in the report: The consumer states the product was an 8x11 rectangular glass dish and it was oven safe.
Incident: 11/18/15 The consumer rubbed a small amount of butter in the dish where the three chicken legs were to lay. The amount was so small that it hardly showed up. The consumer placed the dish with the 3 small chicken legs to the side while preheating the oven to 375 degrees and fixing the side dishes. After the oven was preheated to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and all other prep work was done, the room temperature chicken was placed on the middle shelf to bake.. After 32 minutes she went to the oven to check the chicken. According to the recipe it was to cook for 40 minutes but as she always does she checks early to see how it is doing. When the consumer opened the door, the dish with a loud noise that sounded like a gunshot exploded and pieces of glass flew everywhere - up to 5 feet away from the oven. She was not hurt only because she was standing to the side rather than the front of the oven. The force of the glass coming out of that oven would have cut anyone in its way.
On 11/19/15 The consumer contacted the firm “Pyrex” and informed them about the incident. She was told by a Rep (she thinks his name was [REDACTED]) that the combination of the butter and the moisture of the chicken could have caused the incident. Impossible! There was not enough butter to create “grease” and how much moisture can you get from 3 small room temperature chicken legs? She told the Rep that it was not possible and he said he wanted to read me a paper. He asked the consumer if the dish was cracked or chipped and she told him no - she does not use chipped or cracked dishes to eat on or cook with. He asked if she preheated the oven which she did. The consumer can’t remember everything that he read but she did everything that he said she should. He asked me to send the glass to him so they could check the glass out. The glass was already picked up that morning so the consumer didn’t have any to send. After the incident she went to the web site and found several other statements about dishes exploding that sounded like what had happened to me. The consumer also saw an article about the company being sold and the new company started adding more limestone when making the glass and that may be a problem. The consumer told the Rep this and he said you can’t believe everything you read on the internet. The consumer told him she agrees with that but they sounded too much like what happened to her. As far as the limestone he said that it wasn’t true. However, if he was so sure it wasn’t true why do they want to test the glass. The more the rep kept talking the more angry the consumer was becoming and she told him that he and his company did not want to take responsibility for the defective dish that they just wanted to blame the consumer. The consumer was offered a new dish which she did not accept because she does not feel their products are safe. When the rep asked what the consumer wanted him to do, she told him they needed to warn the public of the possibility of the dishes exploding.
The consumer does not remember where she purchased the dish. She threw the pieces of glass in the trash and they were picked up the next morning.

After about 20 minutes, I heard a loud sound of glass breaking, and opened the oven to find the Pyrex dish had shattered. There were small glass pieces all over the oven.
Per Consumer Reports (http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/magazine-archive/2011/january/home-garden/glass-cookware/glass-cookware/index.htm), apparently this is something that has happened to others. I had no idea this could happen. Fortunately no one was hurt, but it could have caused serious injury.

I was heating water in the microwave in my glass Pyrex measuring cup, which I had done before. Because I was heating the water for my toddler who had a sore throat, I purposely didn’t want it to be too hot. I set the microwave’s auto cook for three minutes, but I pulled it out around 2 minutes and 30 seconds. When I removed the measuring cup from the microwave, it shattered just as my hand touched the handle. The handle and glass was unexplainably hot for microwaving it a short period of time. The Pyrex caused severe burns on my hand. In the photos attached, you can see the burns on the pads of my fingers from where I held the handle. You can also see the odd way that the glass shattered. After helping me deal with my hand for a few minutes (cold water, then ice), my husband went to clean up the broken glass. He shouted when he touched the glass because it was still extremely hot a few minutes later.

I baked a quiche in a Pyrex pie pan that I’ve owned for several years. When I removed the pan from the oven and set it on the counter, the pie pan made a loud pop sound and “exploded”, sending glass chunks and shards throughout the vicinity of the counter, ruining my quiche and making quite a mess. Fortunately, there were no injuries, but there could have been if the pan exploded while I was carrying it, or if small children or pets were around when the incident happened.
There was no drastic temperature change, nor did I use the pie pan in an unusual manner. I did not notice any cracks or chips in the pie pan when I began baking.

The product, in the report: Pyrex baking dish, 9 inch x 13 inch rectangular with handles on each end, clear glass, purchased within last 20 years
I had a 9-inch x 13-inch Pyrex baking dish sitting on my stovetop. I accidentally turned on the burner underneath it (I meant to turn on another burner to heat water for tea). Several minutes later, the dish exploded. It sounded like a violent explosion. I did not initially know what had exploded, but I saw glass all over the countertop, stovetop, and floor within a 3-foot radius. Some pieces of glass traveled as far as eight feed from the source. I left the room to put on shoes so that I could clean up the mess. When I returned and was assessing the damage, I noticed that the burner was on, so I turned it off. I rested my hand on a dish towel that was hanging over the oven handle, and I touched a piece of hot glass that was on the towel. I then proceeded to clean up the glass, and later I entered the room barefoot and got a glass splinter in my foot. I suspect I will be finding chunks and shards of glass for some time.
Actual injury: 1st degree burn to palmar surface of hand; glass splinters in hands and feet from cleanup. Potential injury: Hot glass flew through the air up to eight feet from the source; I’m lucky nobody was standing closer Actual property damage: hot glass that landed on the floor melted the linoleum flooring and left stains

The product, in the report: It was a square 8x8 cake pan, glass bakeware, the brown or amber color.
I wish to report an accident that happened to us on Sunday, August 23rd. Our daughter was baking some catfish in the oven for dinner. It was a large amount, so she had it in two Pyrex bake ware pans...the bigger of which was 13x9. All of a sudden, she and her husband were alerted by a B-O-O-M. They, of course, went running to see what had happened. They opened the oven door and there was the smaller Pyrex pan, shattered into bits and pieces...scattered all over the oven. It had exploded! Needless to say, our catfish dinner was ruined! But that’s beside the point...it was the scary explosion of the bake ware, without any warning.
This has never happened to us before, but I have read about it happening to others, and some folk were even hurt by the exploding bake ware as it shattered in their hands. We were fortunate, that it all happened in the oven, and no one was nearby, nor hurt.
This piece of bake ware is square, 8x8, the amber color (or brownish). It isn’t brand new, and has been used many times in the past.
My biggest concern is that this continues to happen, as you can see, and can happen when a person least expects it. I think the general public needs to know the danger involved, when using these Pyrex products. There needs to be an alert on the product, or the manufacturer needs to come up with a safer product.
We have pictures of what the oven looked like when we opened the door. Also, of the clean-up. However I tired to download them here, from my tablet, and was unable to do so. If you’d like me to send them, please let me know. We also saved a couple pieces of the shattered bake ware.

Pyrex 4 qt glass bake ware: I preheated for just a few minutes, my pyrex bake ware today. Immediately upon taking it out and placing it on my stove top (which was hot also - it is electric so was hot from the oven being on), the pyrex glass bake ware exploded sending chards of glass all over the kitchen.

The product, in the report: Pyrex baking dish 8 x 10
I was putting a 8x10 pyrex baking dish into a cupboard and was putting a smaller baking dish inside. Neither of the dishes were hot or cracked. I put a slight pressure on the large dish with the small dish and the large dish exploded! Shards, pieces and slivers of glass went into the cupboard, all over the kitchen floor, countertops and me. Fortunatly I had on glasses and didn’t get glass in my eyes. My lens have three scratched places where the glass etched them. I’ve had both pieces for years and have done this exact procedure many times before. This was a very dangerous experience.

The product, in the report: Pyrex glass 9 x 13 baking dish
On 6/11/2015, I preheated my oven to 425 degrees. When it reached temperature, I placed a Pyrex 9 x 13 glass baking dish with olive oil and fish into the oven to bake. Halfway through baking the fish, I opened the oven door to turn the fish. The glass casserole dish exploded sending pieces of glass into the oven. I was not hurt but I left the oven door open and backed away to let the dish cool before trying to remove it or clean up the glass. After about fifteen minutes, I used pot holders to move the shattered dish to the stove top to cool further. The stove top was cool and had not been on. Five minutes later, it exploded again, sending more glass flying. I have never had a Pyrex dish do anything like this before. The oven temperature was not excessively high and there was a slight coating of oil in the pan, so it was not dry.

Put 2 cups [REDACTED] frozen organic rice into Pyrex bowl, covered with [REDACTED] wrap, poked air hole in [REDACTED] wrap, set microwave timer to cook 4 min. In the middle of cooking heard sound like glass dish falling and breaking. Looked into microwave and saw bowl had split. It continued to fall apart as I watched, with some big pieces and some small shards. No injuries, but a big mess. The bowl was part of a set of three clear glass bowls which are at least 10 years old and have been used many times to microwave.

Container was holding a piece of casserole (no liquid covering the bottom) and went directly from the fridge to the microwave. The lid was un-sealed, but left sitting on top as to prevent a mess while microwaving. Container was in the microwave for one minute. Then set again for a minute and a half. With :24 remaining the glass shattered in the microwave. There were no injuries since the glass was contained within the microwave.

Placed Pyrex 9X9 baking dish in oven. Container half full of unbaked cobbler. Baked at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Placed about 4 inches from broiler in electric stove. Broiled for appx 5-7. Turned oven off and was going to pull dish out of oven. As I stepped away to get an additional hot pad, the dish exploded, sending hot shards of glass 10 feet or more. No injuries sustained, but, injuries could have easily happened, had I not stepped away before it exploded.

The product, in the report: 9x13 clear glass bakeware pyrex brand. No lid.
We received a 9x13 glass Pyrex bakeware dish as a wedding present 3.5 years ago. It was used lightly/moderately. We used it to bake a meatloaf last evening, at 350. After it finished baking, we placed it on top of the stove and removed the meatloaf. We did not clean the pan as there was severe inclement weather, and we had to take shelter outside our home for most of the evening so the dish sat at room temperature for around 24 hours. Today, I began to boil water on a different burner. The pyrex pan was approximately 5 inches away from the heated burner and the pot sitting on it. I heard the water begin to boil but did not attend to the pot for a few minutes to allow it to reach a full rolling boil. Just before I re-entered the kitchen, There was an extremely loud sound and I heard glass landing. I entered the kitchen and found my water at a rolling boil in its pot and my pyrex dish exploded into small and large shards. These flew over the entire kitchen and down our hallway, the furthest being approximately 15 feet away, most being within 6 feet of the dish’s original location. This may seem irrelevant to this report, but is important enough to me to include. At this time of day, my 15 moth old typically is playing with his kitchen toys in the exact area where most of the shrapnel was. This would have resulted in me being in the same area with my second son, who is not due to be born for 3 more months. It was nothing more or less than the grace of God that he took the shortest nap of his life earlier in the day resulting in me putting him down for a second nap at that time and preventing us all from standing right in front of the explosion.

The product, in the report: Glass Baking Dish 9 x 13” (22.5 x 33cm)
Baked glassware purchased around Christmas time 2014 shattered.
Saturday, April 4th, 2015 this caller had been baking lasagne and the dish had been in the oven set at 350 degrees for approximately 45 minutes.
The caller removed the dish from the oven to the middle top of her range and within ten seconds the dish exploded.
The explosion left glass right in front of the range to across the kitchen floor three or four feet.
She believes that the foil over the dish kept the glass from going further out.
While cleaning up the glass she obtained a cut on the thumb of her right hand approximately 1/8 inch long.
She has not contacted the manufacturure but does intend to contact them.
She is requesting that she be reimbursed the cost of the two glass dishes (the second dish is unused).
Consumer stated she cut her thumb..

The product, in the report: 7x11 Pyrex clear baking dish
Roasting a chicken in a 7x11 Pyrex dish -- have had and used for several years. There were no obvious chips, cracks, or scratches to the dish. Glassware dish was at room temperature. There was some liquid in the bottom of the glassware. Conventional oven was fully pre-heated to 400 degrees when dish (with chicken) was placed in. I did not re-open the oven door or alter the temperature once it began to roast. Twenty-six (26) minutes into cooking, there was a loud noise from the oven. When I opened the oven door, I discovered the dish had exploded into a gazillion shards. All of the juice had naturally fallen on the heating element so much smoke billowed out of the oven. Portions of the glass adhered to the underside of the chicken which had to be peeled off. Pieces varied in size -- some chunks, others longer (~2 inches) thin slivers, and many, many, many miniscule pieces on oven floor and adhered (thanks to chicken juice) to oven door and top. Despite being careful, received cuts on my fingers from the sharp-edged slivers.

The product, in the report: Pyrex brand 2 quart clear glass oblong baking dish 7 x 11 inch
Recently a piece of Pyrex bakeware completely shattered in my oven when my husband was taking it out after cooking some chicken. This was very scary. My husband received minor cuts, and our seven year old daughter was standing close by at the time. We were unaware that this could happen while simply removing a dish from the oven. I knew to be careful to prevent thermal shock such as putting a hot dish on a cold countertop.
