The product, in the report: Pyrex 9x13 glass casserole dish
I am reporting a serious safety incident involving a Pyrex glass casserole/baking dish that suddenly exploded after being removed from the oven and placed on my kitchen countertop. The product being used was a Pyrex glass casserole dish/bakeware dish. I was using it in a normal household kitchen setting to cook food in the oven. After baking, I removed the hot casserole dish from the oven and placed it on my countertop. Shortly after it was placed on the counter, the glass dish violently shattered/exploded without warning. Glass fragments/shrapnel launched across the kitchen. My two young children were nearby at the time, and the glass shrapnel launched in their direction. This created an immediate and serious risk of lacerations, eye injury, burns, and other injuries. Thankfully, no one was physically injured.Or add: Although no physical injury occurred, this was a near-miss incident that could have seriously injured my children. The dish was being used as ordinary bakeware: placed in the oven for cooking, then removed and placed on a kitchen countertop. I later researched Pyrex product care instructions and found that the company warns consumers not to place hot glass are on cool or wet surfaces and to use a dry cloth, potholder, trivet, or cooling rack. However, this warning was not prominently visible to me on the product packaging or on the dish itself before use. This is especially concerning because many consumers reasonably believe granite/stone countertops are heat safe and would not understand that placing hot Pyrex glassware on a countertop could cause the product to explode or violently shatter. The warning about this hazard should be displayed prominently in large, bold lettering on the packaging and/or directly on the product because the risk is severe and not obvious to ordinary consumers. I am reporting this because the product shattered violently during foreseeable household use and created a serious injury hazard to children and anyone nearby. I believe the product warning is inadequate and not prominent enough given the risk of sudden breakage, flying glass, and serious injury. I request that CPSC review this product and the adequacy of Pyrexs warnings regarding thermal shock, countertop placement, and the risk of glass explosion/shattering. Baked a 1.5 pound pork roast in the oven at 450 for 30 minutes in a pyrex glass baking dish, like we always do, and about 2 minutes before taking it out of the oven-the pyrex exploded into large chunks amd small shards. No injuries occurred, but we did have throw away our dinner and clean up a huge mess in the oven after it cooled.

The product, in the report: Pyrex 13x9 deep dish baking dish (oven safe) from Target. Comes with light blue lid.
A Pyrex 139 deep glass baking dish with a light blue lid shattered in my oven at 350F during normal use while preparing a Thanksgiving dish. The dish was at room temperature beforehand and had no visible damage. The breakage scattered glass throughout the oven and ruined over $100 in ingredients.
After researching this, I discovered many consumers reporting similar shattering incidents with newer Pyrex dishes. This appears to be a recurring safety issue with potentially dangerous consequences.
I am submitting this report so this incident is documented as a product safety concern.

The product, in the report: A pyrex glassware loaf pan. Probably 1.6 qt. size.
I was baking a meatloaf in a pyrex glass baking dish at 350 degrees for an hour. I took it out of the oven with my oven gloves on, and it exploded in my hands sending shards of glass everywhere. One shard went into my ankle and caused a lot of bleeding. It was a huge mess. I did not bump the glassware or drop it or set it on any surface; it just exploded on its own.

The product, in the report: Pyrex deep 9x13 glass baking dish, bought from amazon
Pyrex pan bought from amazon exploded yesterday. It cut both of our feet. We were not aware this could happen. Glass was everywhere, we are still picking up the small shards, and were worried the small shards will get into our food in the future, as there are so many of them. Pyrex was on the counter next to the heating stove. We do not remember seeing any warning on the packaging. Its ridiculous, extremely selfish, and corrupt that this is being sold without a huge warning label. I suspect people are being paid off at multiple stages of the selling and marketing process, and hope and expect that karma will find them. Someone will eventually get hit in the eye and lose their eyesight, perhaps a child.

Using a Pyrex 11”x17” glass pan, I wrapped 4 chicken breasts in parchment paper, placed them in the pan and then placed them in the oven before it was fully preheated. I soon realized that the sound came from my oven, I opened it up and realized that my pan exploded.

The product, in the report: Pyrex Bake It! Easy Grab Glass Baking dish with large easy grab handles. 1.5 qt/1.4 L 8.75 inches X 5.25 inches X 3 inches BPA Free Made in USA It’s clear glass but all of the broken glass shards and chips have a green hue to them. Made from heat strengthened Soda lime glass 2021 Corelle brands LLC, an Instant Brands company
I purchased a pyrex baking dish on December 9th, 2024 at a London Drugs store in Canada. The label says it’s made in the USA. It’s called Easy Grab Pyrex Bake It! It’s 1.5qt. /8.75in X 3in. It says it’s a preheated oven-safe glass container. Avoid extreme Temperature changes. I preheated my oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit as per directions. The Pyrex dish was dry and room temperature. I put some scalloped potatoes that had been refrigerated, not frozen, into the dish and placed it into the pre-heated oven. At the 14 minute mark we heard a huge explosion, the dish had exploded and shattered everywhere inside my oven. Nobody was injured but had I opened the oven door at that time the injuries would have been catastrophic.

When I thought it was done I removed it from the oven. With a minute the dish explored with a loud bang. There were not only chunks of glass but tiny slivers of glass and dust- like glass. I found tiny slivers of glass on my clothing but luckily my husband and I wear glasses and our eyes were covered. We received no injuries.

The product, in the report: Pyrex 9 by 13 inch casserole baking dish made of clear Pyrex glass.
A Pyrex baking casserole dish that we have had for about 10 years exploded in the oven. I had loaded it with chicken that was cooked and was warm. Also room temperature tortillas and cheese from the refrigerator. The dish was at room temperature-I did not take it out of a cold environment into the oven or do anything else that the manufacturer warns against. As you can see from the picture not much is left of it, even if it may have had a product number. It did say clearly Pyrex on it.

I was making a casserole with unfrozen product in a room temperature Pyrex dish I prepared the casserole and place the dish in a preheated oven to 375. The casserole was required to cook for 30 minutes at about the 20 minute mark the entire casserole dish exploded in my oven sending shards of glass all over the inside and underneath the floor pan of the oven. Had I had the oven door open or was I holding the pan I would have been seriously injured with the hot casserole and shards of glass. This was not just a cracked pan this was an explosion sending many shards of glass all over the oven including into the warming drawer beneath my oven and onto the floor beneath my oven. This was a brand new product that had only been used one time before.

Many of these pieces flew up into the air, popping like popcorn and spreading small particles of class everywhere along with the larger pieces.

The product, in the report: Pyrex glass baking pan approx. 11 x 14.
I used a glass Pyrex, large, rectangular baking pan to prepare a brisket recipe. The recipe said to pre-heat the oven to broil, which I did. The next step was to put the pan containing the meat into the preheated oven for 10 minutes. The next step was to remove the pan and turn over the brisket at return it to the oven for another 10 minutes to brown the second side, which I did. Then I lowered the oven temperature to 350 degrees and removed the pan containing the meat. The recipe said to add one quart of beef broth to the pan. I started to add the beef broth, which was at room temperature. At that point, the glass pan completely fractured, sending glass in all directions. Fortunately, I was not injured, but others may not be so lucky.

My glass square deep dish Pyrex shattered while baking at 350 in the oven. The dish had been in for 30 minutes when I checked it so don’t know when it happened in that window. The way it broke was the most disturbing. There were big pieces with very sharp shards of glass and fractures of glass so tiny I had to wipe the oven ten times to come up with a paper towel that came up clean in the light. I had done nothing unusual with the dish. I had not dropped it, or broiled it or microwaved it etc etc. it was about six months old. I had bought two and plan to throw out the mate. I have a photo if anyone cares. I was not injured.

The product, in the report: 9 x 13 clear glass Pyrex baking dish
I put a 9x13 Pyrex dish with chicken thighs and sauce in oven at 350 degrees. The dish was taken out of the cupboard, not the refrigerator or freezer, before putting the chicken in it. The chicken was not frozen. The chicken was to cook for 60 minutes and then be basted. After 50 minutes, I went over by the oven to check how much time had elapsed and was standing in front of the oven when I heard an explosion and saw steam coming out of the oven. I turned off the oven and looked inside and saw that the dish had exploded! No injuries occurred. But had I taken the dish out of the oven and then it exploded injury would have been highly likely! I scooted the shattered dish and chicken resting on the wire rack into a metal pan. I let the rest of the mess and oven cool before continuing with the cleanup. I took 4 pictures. See attached in a later section of this report. NOTE: There is a statement in a later section of this report that says: “No one was hurt or at risk of being hurt.” I cannot find a way to edit this statement, to say that despite the fact that I was not hurt, I WAS at risk of being hurt had the dish exploded outside the oven and I was holding it or nearby.
UPDATED 3/14/2023: [I do not have Model, Serial Number, or Photos for the exploded dish. I do not save packaging nor take pictures of such cooking items, Will do so in the future. I examined all the larger pieces of exploded glass for any such numbers, but found none. Historically, I only buy Pyrex dishes, but which Pyrex, and age of my dish, etc, I do not know.]

A Pyrex Dish exploded in my oven!
I love to cook! I use the Pyrex Snapware so much that this last set was a gift set that was purchased from Costco. Preparing for Hurricane Ian, my family came to shelter at our home. The dish was washed after being removed from the package one or two days prior to the incident. I had a few things in the oven and this particular dish was for dessert so it went in the oven last. It was filled with the ingredients for bread pudding that were marinating on the countertop for over an hour so, it was at room temperature when it was placed inside the oven at 375 degrees with the other items being cooked. I typically cook the same item at 350 degrees but, because there were a few things in the oven, I raised the temperature. Within 15-minutes of placing the dish in the oven, we heard a loud explosion! It sounded like, and we initially thought that it was a transformer blowing with Hurricane Ian on the way. The explosion was contained so, there were no injuries except to the oven itself, and the other meal items that were in the oven at the time.
I reported it to Costco by phone a day later when the initial shock wore off and they asked me to come in to file a report and bring the container, which I did. Costco forwarded my concerns to the vendor. A few days later, the vendor Instant Brands, contacted me. The exchange with the vendor was very amicable at first and they offered to pay for any damages. I thought I was saving lives by bringing this to their attention but, the side-stepping led to my researching online and finding that this is a known issue. Additionally, I became alarmed by the offer they made which included issuing a W-9 form, in other words, it would go down in their books as an employee/contractor-type payment and not an insurance claim that needed to be reported.

She was wearing a gloves and moving it to a cutting board when it shattered. Glass flew all over the kitchen. The consumer sustained a laceration to her right foot, which required sutures, just under her big toe, near the ligament.
A few days later the consumer called the manufacturer and reported the matter to them. The consumer was told that someone would call her back. [REDACTED] from Customer Satisfaction wrote her and asked 11 questions. She did not have her report from the urgent care at the time. [REDACTED] offered the consumer a $50 gift card to settle the matter. However, the consumer checked the internet and is more concerned about the frequency of these glass dishes shattering.
She has had the sutures removed. As of right now, she is not sure if she will need any follow up care.
The manufacturer did not provide her with a report number or reference number, when she communicated with them. Case reference no [REDACTED] provided Mon. I haven’t experienced problems with other pieces in the set, but I don’t use them in the microwave often. From my online Kohl’s receipt, this is the info I have: Pyrex 24-pc. Storage Set with Color Lids Color: Multi/None, Size: 24 PC, Qty: 1 SKU # 77373619 Sale $29.99 Regular $69.99
I was using a 6 Cup Pyrex Storage glass dish in the microwave when it exploded. Reading online, this apparently isn’t entirely uncommon. I had it in there on high for 2 minutes. A slice of lasagna was covering half the bottom of the dish. It went straight from the fridge to the microwave, like you do when heating leftovers. I had a loose microwave safe dome cover on top to catch any pasta sauce spray. This happened near the end of the two minutes. The product is marked as microwave safe and didn’t have any known defects, like cracks, that I knew of.

On 12/4/2021 I purchased a pyrex basics oblong glass baking dish. 4.8qt 15.2”x10.1”x1.9” I used it for the first time on 12/9/2021. I baked ribs for 3 hours in a preheated 350 degree oven. When I removed the dish from the oven I set it on my glass stove top. As soon as I removed some aluminum foil from the dish it exploded. There were some small tempered pieces of glass but most were large shards like knives. Fortunately I was not injured which could have been disastrous as I take blood thinners. I understand that this is a rare occurrence but I felt it should be reported

The product, in the report: Pyrex baking dish, [REDACTED] tinted light transparent blue, Eight inch square, brownie baking pan or casserole baking pan, thick glass. Bought at Walmart.
My Pyrex [REDACTED] bakeware exploded/ shattered while while cooking with it. It’s a 8 inch square casserole glass pan. Tinted blue. It made a big broken glass mess on the stove with the food.
I called the Pyrex company to see if there is a recall on this item and to let Pyrex know what happened. The Warranty representative said she didn’t know if there was a recall. She said Pryex will replace it. But I told her that I don’t want the same product replaced because it will shatter on me again, so I asked her if Pryex makes plastic? She said I have to talk to customer care center ( I think that’s what she called it), and she they don’t have a phone number and they only have an email but she can’t give the email or phone number to me and I must give her my email first, then they will contact me.
I told the same warranty representative that I researched this online and there are others over the past 10 years who have had the same exploding/ shattering Pryex bakeware problem. The warranty rep responded by saying, “Don’t believe everything you read online”. I told her that everybody can’t be wrong and this is a very dangerous product, the glass could physically hurt somebody when it explode and shatters. She still did not transfer me to the correct department to resolve the dispute.
I researched more and found this website to report the shattered Pryex.
This product is dangerous. It should be removed from circulation. I bought mine at Walmart.

The product, in the report: Glass pie dish
The consumer indicates that she placed one sweet potato wrapped in tinfoil on her glass pie dish inside the oven at 425F for 45 minutes. The consumer then moved the pie dish to the top rack and set her oven to 460F for about twenty minutes. When the time was up, the consumer removed the pie dish from the oven and placed it on a glass cutting board. Immediately after putting the container down, the unit exploded and glass shards flew everywhere on the kitchen island and the floor.
The consumer states that the unit was used three to four times yearly.
Please note that I did not take photos at the time of the incident as I was not hurt. There were shards and jagged pieces of hot glass scattered all over my kitchen counter and floor and my goal was to clean up as quickly and as safely as possible.
Also, please note there are many complaints about Pyrex on the Internet. This is a public health safety matter that is not being addressed.
Additionally, I preheat my oven to 350 degrees. I did not raise the level of temperature to broil.

The product, in the report: Glass, transparent color 9-inch by 13-inch Pyrex dish. I think I purchased it at Bed, Bath and Beyond - several years ago.
The Pyrex dish had been in the oven (which had been pre-heated to 400 degrees Fahrenheit) for 30 mins. The dish was lined with parchment paper and contained cubes of tofu which had been roasted. I removed the dish, placed it on the stovetop (which was lukewarm as the back burner had been on simmer), and within SECONDS, the Pyrex dish exploded into pieces of glass on the stove and on the floor. I have pictures as well as the remaining fragments of what used to be a Pyrex dish which I can forward to you. There were no injuries - but the potential is frightening to think of. I have used this dish for over 10 years, I did nothing different that would trigger this explosion. Based on previous reports of exploding Pyrex dishes for other consumers, this should be investigated much more thoroughly before serious injury or possibly death occurs.

The product, in the report: Clear glass three-quart rectangular Pyrex baking dish.
I had a three-quart glass pyrex dish that I attempted to use to roast tomatoes and feta this evening. The glass dish was room temperature as were the tomatoes. The feta was chilled. I placed the rectangle of feta in the middle of the dish with the cherry tomatoes surrounding it. A few drizzles of olive oil and seasonings and I put it in a 400-degree oven for 30 minutes. After 17 minutes, I heard what sounded like a small bomb in the oven. I was in disbelief that the sound came from my oven, but I could hear sizzling so I turned off the oven. I opened it up and the entire dish had shattered into hundreds of pieces. It literally exploded. I was very lucky that this didn’t happen while I was holding the dish as I could have been injured. I thought the whole point of Pyrex dishes was to use them for baking? This was at a hot but not extremely hot temperature and there was no sudden change from hot to cold or vice versa. I have several other pyrex dishes and storage containers and now I am very nervous about continuing their use. I hated wasting the ingredients from the meal I was attempting to prepare, but obviously, I had to throw everything away and thoroughly clean my oven. Some of the glass and food even ended up in the vents where the gas-fueled flames heat the oven. I really, really hope that my oven does not malfunction after this.

My 9x13 inch Pyrex baking dish shattered after being in a 450 degree oven for 15 minutes. The shattering took place when I simply took it out of the oven and placed it on a wooden cutting board. Our PYREX baking dish exploded. If we had been in the kitchen at the time, injuries would have been serious if not fatal, with glass exploding in all directions throughout the kitchen and into the dining room for at least 15 feet. I had simply baked eggplant for 20 minutes at 350 degrees, removed the baking dish and set it on the stove-top (with no heating elements turned on), began to serve up lunch, and about 5 minutes later as we were preparing to eat lunch on the porch adjacent to the kitchen we heard the horrendously loud explosion. The dish was completely shattered into 100s of shards.

I recently purchased a set of Pyrex brand food storage bowls with snap on lids. They are sold as use from refrigerator to microwave or oven. I just placed a bowl in my microwave to reheat leftover couscous with peas. The cook time was set for 2 minutes. About 40 seconds into it I heard a very loud explosion and realized the sound came from the microwave. I immediately opened the door to stop the timer. Not only had the Pyrex exploded, the interior of the microwave now shows faint gray discoloration throughout which was not there prior to the explosion. The entire bowl had exploded. This product is not supposed to react like that. While at my son’s home we have microwave heated a variety of foods countless times. This product is unstable for some reason and should immediately be recalled. I have a photo should you need it. Thank you for investigating this product.

I used a Pyrex 9 x 13 glass baking dish purchased at Target (I believe it is identical to this one currently sold: the [REDACTED] UPC: 071160092129 Item Number (DPCI): 070-02-2127). I placed boneless pork cutlets that had been dipped in egg and then in bread crumbs in the dish. I placed the dish in a 400 degree oven next to a cookie sheet with sweet potato slices on it. I then decided to increase the oven temperature to 425 degrees. About 15 minutes later I heard what sounded like a crash. I opened the oven door to find that the Pyrex dish had exploded into little pieces and shards. Upon opening the oven door, many of these pieces fell onto my kitchen floor. My husband and I had to disassemble to oven bottom to remove the glass shards from the bottom.

A Pyrex pie dish was resting on top of two other pryex dishes on top of a counter overnight. Dish was undamaged, has never been used on a stovetop or broiler surface, and had been purchased within the last two years. No external heating or cooling surfaces were present, and yet at some point the top pyrex dish exploded, getting glass shards all over a ~4 foot radius. Could’ve been extremely dangerous if I’d been in the area at the time. As it stands I had to wear protective gear and spend about an hour cleaning the shards up because there were so many of them.

I used a glass dish to warm up food at 400c for 20 minutes. As I removed it from the oven, and placed on top for cooling, 3 seconds later it exploded. It sounded like a bomb. The surface was not wet or cold. The dish was fairly new. Glass shattered everywhere into many small pieces. Luckily, I turned away to get a serving spoon three feet away, or else it would have exploded into my face. Thankfully, the glass spread to the floor, oven and counter tops. I watched your related video that was sent by a relative who experienced the same incident. I remained in shock for an hour realizing how close that was to seriously injuring me, especially if the dish splattered a liquid.

Clear glass pyrex 9x13 casserole exploded in my hands as I was removing it from the oven. I was wearing an oven mit on my right hand and used a potholder with my left hand. My right hand with the oven mit was supporting the bottom of the pyrex, while my left hand (with the potholder) was holding the lip of the pyrex. The pyrex exploded just as I was almost to about to place it down on a room temperature stovetop.
A finger on my left hand was sliced by the flying glass and the rug was melted by the glass pieces/shards.

The product, in the report: Pyrex glass dish, no handles, approximately 9x7”.
A smaller Pyrex pan (approx 9x7”) was in the oven baking. The pan had been in the oven for approximately 25 minutes at 425 degrees F when we heard a loud noise and smoke started pouring out of the oven. The pan had “exploded” in the oven, flinging glass everywhere, including into other containers cooking in the oven. The bottom completely shattered, dropping the food onto the bottom of the oven, causing the smoke. The house was quickly filled with smoke, setting off the smoke detectors. We turned off the oven within 15 seconds of the pan exploding, but it didn’t matter. After allowing the oven to cool, we found glass all over the oven. The explosion was quite violent and we were glad no one was near the pan. The pans had not been touched (no sudden temperature changes), the food was warm when placed in the pan (no transfer from fridge to oven), and no sharp objects had made contact. The food inside the pan had not dried out, as liquid was all over the bottom of the oven. No injuries were sustained in the initial explosion as it was contained to the oven.

I was preparing to bake some pasta in my electric oven and set a glass Pyrex baking pan on the stovetop while I stirred a pot of spinach. Suddenly there was a loud sound of explosion, I flinched and then opened my eyes to see shards of glass all over the stove and across the kitchen. I quickly went into cleaning mode and then paused, realizing how lucky I was I did not get injured by the exploding glass. I will take the blame for setting glass on a warm stove - but I definitely did not realize the glass would explode if I did that. Can I use Pyrex in an electric oven? Very nervous to use glass cookware now.

I am a little late in reporting this, although when it happened I did contact the company directly. This is in reference to a 9 by 13 glass pyrex baking dish. I was baking salmon in our oven, probably around 400 degrees and it shattered. Thankfully the oven door was closed and no one got hurt. We might still have pictures somewhere, I’d have to check. I may have taken it out of the refrigerator and put in the oven or it was marinating on the counter, unfortunately in the passing of time I can’t be sure. However, I see this is an ongoing problem and the company hasn’t done anything to fix it. The estimated date is probably very inaccurate, by adding my name I hope you can judge the frequency this is happening.

The product, in the report: Pyrex baking dish with red cover. Relatively new. 11X7 inched. Two quart. It also said USA C232 16 12.
Last evening I used a relatively new Pyrex baking dish. It was 11X7 inches, 2 quart. It also said USA C232 16 12. I had placed approximately one tablespoon of olive oil in the bottom of the dish and placed two frozen fish fillets in the bottom of the dish. I placed the dish in a preheated 425 degree oven. They baked for 10 minutes. I removed the dish from the oven and set it on my stove top. I have an electric stove with a glass top solid black surface. I turned the fish fillets over and put the dish back in the oven for another 10 minutes. I then took the dish out of the oven and placed it directly onto the surface of the stove top. Thankfully I turned around to go to the counter to get my plate and boom!!!! The baking dish exploded!!! Glass shards flew 3-4 feet!!!! Most of the glass pieces covered the stove top!!! My husband and I were flabbergasted!! We’d never heard of such a thing!! We cleaned up the mess. Wish I had taken a photo. Then I googled “exploding Pyrex “ and saw I was not alone!! Please add my complaint to the list you have. So grateful no one was hurt!!

I was baking boneless chicken breast in my Pyrex pan in my preheated 375 degree oven. About 15 minutes into it, I hear a huge explosion. Smoke was spilling out of the oven and spreading through the house. Chicken grease and olive oil were mixed with glass in the bottom of my oven. Surprisingly the chicken remained intact on the bottom of the pan. The sides of the pan busted. I got glass in my fingers and in the corner of my eye trying to clean it out. I was able to remove the glass. My lungs remained smoke-filled the entire night and I am asthmatic.

The product, in the report: Pyrex® Easy Grab 3-qt Oblong Baking Dish w/Red Lid -- baking/casserole dish, about 17” x 10” [ https://bit.ly/2PIkSLJ ]
Pyrex rectangular baking dish shattered shortly after being put in a preheated oven. The baking dish had been stored at room temperature. A few minutes prior to putting in the oven, the dish was filled with a pasta/casserole that had been cooked on the stove. The food was warm but not scalding when added to the dish, and the contents were already liquid-y, so no additional water was added. The dish was then placed in the center rack of the oven, which had been preheated to 350° (oven was done preheating before dish was placed inside). A few minutes later, there was a loud crashing/banging sound. Upon opening the oven, we saw that the dish had completely shattered. Fortunately, because this happened while it was cooking, no one was hurt (though cleanup was difficult and messy, as the oven was filled with splattered food and broken glass).
The baking dish was purchased about 6 months ago and had only been used 2-3 times, previously without issue. The dish was not damaged or scratched.

The product, in the report: Glass baking pan
We were cooking chicken in a pirex glass pan. It exploded inside the oven. No one was hurt. But I found many others online that this happened to, and read that you received < 1000 complaints on these in 7 years. The amount of reported incidents to websites is probably closer to 100,000. I found them in minutes, on reddit, twitter, and consumer reports. I bet many people, like myself just didn’t know to report it to you. So, I’m reporting it now. It happened last month.
We were cooking chicken breasts, like we had done many times, the pan was in the oven for about 20 minutes.and it just exploded. After reading more about the soda lime switch, I think some cold chicken blood ran out of the middle of one of the breasts as it cooked and when it hit the hot glass it exploded. In my opinion these are not safe for public use. If this happened when we were holding it or moving it, it could have severely injured one of my family. We were lucky it exploded inside the oven, it just ruined dinner, and was a pia, to clean out the oven.

The product, in the report: Pyrex clear glass salad or mixing bowl
I took my Pyrex clear glass bowl from the cupboard, placed it on the counter top and added salad greens and dressing, then brought the bowl to the dinner table. As we were eating dinner and salad, the bowl suddenly exploded into hundreds of pieces of glass and several large pieces, see attached pix.
This bowl was given to me at Christmas 2017 and was the largest of a set of four Pyrex bowls. The large one was the one that exploded, it has never been in the oven, microwave or freezer. I have read where these have been known to explode when heated or transitioned from hot to cold or cold to hot but this bowl was at room temperature when in the cupboard and during our use for the salad.
Shards of glass landed in our food, on the table, floor and in our laps. Obviously our meal ended abruptly as we started cleanup. When it exploded, it made quite a loud noise and happened faster than anyone could react. We are so lucky glass didn’t fly into our eyes.
There is no apparent reason why this type of glass explosion should happen and I am writing to you in hopes you have the power to work with Pyrex in preventing this from ever happening again. These glass bowls should all be recalled.

a pyrex baking dish exploded in my kitchen. I spoke with someone in your office today and described it. The dish was empty, sitting on top of the stove on the front burner, which was on low. Luckily I was not in the kitchen but would have been severely injured, probably blinded because the shards of class were very small, almost dust, with slivers 2-3 mm in length, and large pieces too, probably thousands. The pieces extended to a range of 1 feet with most of it on the stove and floor surrounding the stove. Must have been an incredible site. No cookware should do this kind of thing. I will not use it again, ever. The general public needs to be aware of this!! The company, corelle brands, rep. hung up on me when I stated the reason for my call

The product, in the report: Pyrex 2 QT baking dish
On November 24th, I removed the 2 quart Pyrex dish from the cabinet and placed it on the stove. I then transferred pot pie filling from my pot to the dish. It sat there as I preheated the oven to 400 degrees. I then placed the dish in the oven on the metal rack. I set the timer for 25 minutes. When the timer read 16 minutes, I heard a loud explosion from the oven. When I opened the door, shattered glass and boiling pie filling were everywhere including on the pot pie next to it.

The product, in the report: One quart glass container with the word PYREX cast into it. Part number is illegible as it too is cast into the product in tiny print. Product was sold at Macy’s as part of a set.
Put a 1 Quart Pyrex container in the microwave for one minute and 20 seconds and it EXPLODED! Shattered glass went all over the microwave. The container had pasta in it. Container has MICROWAVE SAFE cast into the bottom of it. This product should be recalled. The problem appears to have been around for eight years. Why is it still being sold?

The product, in the report: Pyrex Easy Grab Glass Bakeware and Food Storage Set (8-Piece, BPA-free) 17.5 X 12.4 X 4.2
Straight from the box using “Pyrex Easy Grab Glass Bakeware” (Purchased on Amazon), in my pre-heated oven, temperature set at 425 degrees, and baking tuna casserole for 30 min, I set the glass cookware outside the oven. Approximately 10-15 min later, I heard a loud bang. Nonetheless, I proceeded to walk toward the noise inside the kitchen finding glass throughout my kitchen floor, pantry, counter-tops, plus the outside of my oven. I’ve notified the organization, but they didn’t bother to take an incident report instead offering me a gift voucher, which I refused to accept. Last, there are multiple complaints listed in the “Product Rating” section on Amazon’s website. Unfortunately, I didn’t read the ratings before my purchase. Last, Amazon stated they would remove the product from their site.

The product, in the report: 8 x 8 Pyrex baking dish (used many times before I have another identical purchased at the same time
I was cooking boneless, skinless chicken breast according to a new recipe that promised moist tender results. It said short high heat was the preferred method. I had not tried this before. I preheated the oven, placed the room temperature chicken in the dish and put it in the oven, middle shelf. I set the timer for 15 minutes and went to another room. I heard a very loud sound with the timer showing about 5 minutes remaining. When I opened the door, heat and smoke bellowed forth. The oven light showed the dish broken into several large pieces, many small ones as well as shards. The floor of the oven was a mess. The chicken remained on rungs of the shelf. I put the debris in a disposable foil pan with plastic cover which I taped shut to prevent injury to sanitation workers.
When the oven was cool, I used tongs to remove the pieces, a metal spatula to scrape up smaller pieces, and a damp paper towel to mop up shards and burnt bits. The glass on the oven door was gray with smoke. I removed the oven racks and set the oven to self clean. I remained up for the first 2 hours of the cycle to be sure that the intense heat of the cleaning process did not start a fire. The next day I finished cleaning the oven and racks.
I searched on line about the highest safe oven temperature for Pyres baking dishes because I have 5 others of various sizes plus pie dishes. That is when I discovered that others have experienced the same phenomenon. Now I am also concerned about the [READACTED] casserole dishes I have.

The product, in the report: Pyrex Easy Grab 2 Qt. Casserole with Lid baking dish
On Sunday, 25th of March 2018, the Pyrex Easy Grab 2 Qt. Casserole with Lid baking dish shattered in an explosive manner. It was purchased in the spring of 2017 at the Eglin Main Exchange. The Pyrex Easy Grab 2 Qt. Casserole baking dish has been used multiple times in a gas oven at 350°F making the same cake (˜at least 5 times with the same cake recipe), since the date of purchase. It has never been dropped or miss used. My wife was baking a cake in the Pyrex Easy Grab 2 Qt. Casserole baking dish. It is quite a useful baking dish, as we are teaching our children how to bake and seeing is a great teaching tool. The cake had been in the oven at 350°F for about 25 minutes in the Pyrex Easy Grab 2 Qt Casserole baking dish. She opened the oven door no more than an inch, when she heard what sounded to her as an explosion. She immediately closed the oven and called for me. I am a US NAVY SEAL Chief, in my assessment of what I found in the oven, it was indicative of a catastrophic and explosive shattering of the Pyrex Easy Grab 2 Qt. Casserole baking dish. The explosive shattering sent fragmenting Pyrex throughout the oven and embedded in seams with significant force. The tamping effect of the cake did not focus the explosive shattering directly down, instead the force and fragments shattered explosively to the sides. If the explosive shattering of the Pyrex Easy Grab 2 Qt. Casserole baking dish had happened after my wife or children had open the oven, they would have had serious lacerations to the face, torso and hands. Safety of my Family and consumers is what has prompted this report.
