The product, in the report: Frigidaire Gas Range

Gas comes on when stove knob is barely touched. This can happen without someone knowing and fill house with natural gas. This has already happened twice at our house with this range. We had to place child proof knobs to keep it from happening again. Also, broiler takes a long time to light and when it does creates a loud ignition...if you happen to have the door to the oven open to check if it lit...it creates quite a blast of heat. Also, an extremely fowl odor comes from range during heating up process. Inquired with company when we first got the range and was told...it was the new wearing off...but we’ve had the stove 3 years and are still experiencing the same odor. It makes your eyes water smelling it every time you light the oven.

The product, in the report: Silver Frigidaire Gas Range Model No.: FFGF3047LSG Serial No.: VF52513185

The glass door on the front of my Frigidaire oven exploded this morning. The oven is five months old and has never been damaged or had any prior service problems. About an hour before the oven exploded, I used it to bake potatoes for about forty-five minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Although I use the oven daily, I have never used the self-cleaning feature, rarely use it to broil food, and have never damaged it in any way. Now, the oven is completely inoperable and there are nuggets of glass periodically falling out of it onto my kitchen floor.

The oven is under warranty and after taking several photos of the damage, I called Frigidaire for assistance. Their customer service was both unhelpful and disinterested in my problem. The only solution they offered me was to have a contractor come to my home in four days, during the middle of a workday, to perform diagnostic tests on the oven. I was told that if the contractor deemed it appropriate, they could order replacement parts for the oven. From my perspective, this was a completely unacceptable response to a dangerous condition caused by a product under warranty.

The product, in the report: 30 Inch Freestanding Gas Range with 5 Sealed Burners, 5.0 cu. ft. True Convection Oven, Self-Clean, Quick Preheat, Temperature Probe, Storage Drawer and Griddle Included: Stainless Steel

This product was purchased when we remodeled our kitchen. We purchased it from a local retailer. We used the range/oven according to the instructions and guidelines for the appropriate exhaust fan. However, within six months of owning the range we had to have it serviced and had an ignition spark replaced. The griddle burner never worked properly. Additionally, my husband and I have sustained numerous injuries due to the unsafe heat that blows onto the stove top burners. The same product was sold exclusively at Lowe’s, using a different Model/Serial Number. That product has been recalled, but this one has not. This model that we purchased is completely unsafe and should be recalled.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Gallery Gas Slide In Stove model-FGGS3065PFM Serial number- AF60905647

We bought a new house last year and the expensive Frigidaire Gallery slide in natural gas stove was included. We didn’t use the stove heavily until Thanksgiving last year when we found that if the front burners are on low and you turn on the convection and open the door, the front burners blow out completely and pour gas into the house. We have worked with Frigidaire for hours, call after call, since then and we have had two replacement stoves with the same problem. The authorized factory tech is at a loss and has been in touch with Frigidaire technical folks multiple times. Things have not progressed with the call center telling us that the cooking engineers are now responsible and they are not allowed to talk to them. The seem to not be concerned that their appliance malfunctions and pours gas into the house.

This appliance leaks gas and is dangerous. This is an explosion hazard.

The product, in the report: Gas Oven Range

The consumer indicates that the stove becomes extremely hot when in use. If she turns on the front burners to cook, the entire top plate of the stove gets extremely hot. If the consumer is using the stovetop and the oven, her smoke alarm will go on. In order for the consumer to use both the stove and the oven, she has to leave her kitchen windows open so as to not trigger the smoke alarms in her home.

The consumer contacted the manufacturer and explained the issue she was having. The representative she spoke to arranged for a Service Technician to inspect her unit.

10/08/2015 - The Service Technician inspected the consumer’s unit. After inspection, he indicated the unit is working as it should be.

The consumer contacted the manufacturer again. They sent another Service Technician over. This Service Technician indicated that the issue has to do with the design of the unit as the vents to the oven blow up and onto the knobs of the unit, making it extremely hot to touch.

The consumer indicates that even the microwave and its handle that is located above the range get hot when the latter is in use.

The consumer indicates that she uses her stovetop and oven six to seven times a week. Because of the issue with the overheating, the consumer has never been able to self-clean the oven.

The product, in the report: Gas Range Oven

Frigidaire gas range, self cleaning purchased in September 2015 from Home Depot and is reporting that she has not been able to get the range to bake because whatever temperature the oven is set at, the oven is setting to a different setting.

She contacted the gas company because she also kept hearing a popping sound which has been diagnosed as gas igniting each time.

This news has upset the caller, has her frightened and the manufacturer wants to repair it but the caller believes that the unit needs to be replaced.

She is reporting this unit as a severe potential fire or explosion hazard and would like to have it replaced. 01 The caller contacted the manufacturer who has attempted repair by replacing the circuit board two times but the repair has not been successful.

    * Repaired defective sensor also.

Gas company reported gas leak. Range has been RED TAGGED - CANNOT USE THIS RANGE since 1-26-16. Manufacturer has been informed of this.

The product, in the report: gas range

(1/23/16) The consumer was in the kitchen and unexpectedly heard an explosion like sound. The consumer turned around and noticed the outer glass of the oven door had shattered with the pieces of glass everywhere within in a 15 ft. radius.

The oven was not in use when the glass shattered. The consumer used the oven an hour prior to the incident. The consumer used the oven to heat a piece of pizza which took about 10 minutes.

    There are no prior incidents.

(1/23/16) The consumer called RC Willey, the store where she purchased the range and informed them of the incident. The consumer has a 5 year extended warranty. The consumer filed a claim (does not have a claim #) and she is supposed to get a call back once they have processed the claim. (1/25/16) The consumer called Frigidaire (800-374-4432) and spoke with [REDACTED]. The consumer was advised that they only offer a 1 year warranty and the consumer states the Rep was not concerned with the safety hazard.

The consumer read other complaints online for a similar incident. The consumer believes these oven glass doors are dangerous and can severely injure a consumer.

Since the consumer reported this incident she called RC Willy where they tried to say it was not under warranty since the warranty does not cover shattered glass. The consumer told them when she bought warranty she was told by salesman range was covered by all problems but none gave it to her in writing. The woman at warranty department said she would cover this time only. Sent consumer email with authorization number [REDACTED] their phone number is 801-464-2340 She was also going to send the consumer a warranty contract. Still have not gotten that and is still waiting to have glass fixed. This is a very dangerous problem and seems to the consumer nothing is being done about it. Had the consumer been in front of range she would have been hurt.

    Thank you [REDACTED]

Also spoke with CBS news in Vegas and they said an expo was done on the problem and found that there is no protection for consumers for any tempered glass.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Gallery FGGF3054MF 5 burner Gas Oven/stove

I purchased a Frigidaire Gallery Gas Stove FGGF3054MF in mid 2015. at least 4 times in the pas six months, I have found an oven knob slightly turned on, releasing gas into the kitchen. it is too easy to accidentally bump one of these knobs and it will accidentally turn on (other people on amazon product posts have same complaint.) I called Frigidaire to see if they had any way of making the knobs less sensitive / harder to turn on, and they just told me to be careful. these knobs can turn on, releasing gas, BEFORE the knob gets to the ignition click. you don’t even know the knob is on until you either start smelling the gas, or happen to notice a leak is occurring. (Note - this is a vacation home, and only occupied part time) Second Note - besides smelling gas and the possibility of fire, there were no “injuries” to be entered in the next section.

The product, in the report: Fridigaire gas stove, serial no. VF23158478 Model FFGF3011LW

We purchased a frigidaire gas range for our son. Model FFGF3011LW. He has 2 small children. The heat from the vents on top of stove equal the heat temperature in the over. (if the over is 425, the heat is blowing out 425 (per an applicance repair store). The back of the stove with stove dials and clock will brown excessively from the heat. You cannot touch the stove it is so hot. They cannot use the over in the summer months with the extreme heat coming out of stove. Frididaire says this is normal. I am very concerned about the safety of this stove in their small home with children. Please help me get some help with this. I have an extended warrently for this stove. They came out last year and only replaced the back (with controls). Nothing else. Stove did the same thing, call them again, this time they checked the temperature of the air coming out of vents and it was the same as the oven was set. They said this was normal, and the browned part of the stove is not covered this time. Thanks you so much. [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: 30” Gas Oven Range

07/25/2013 - unit was delivered as it was on backorder

01/05/2016 - The consumer indicates that she turned the oven on to self-clean which takes approximately three hours to complete. Approximately one hour and a half after the self-cleaning cycle ended, the consumer opened the oven door and noticed that its metal lip (top of the oven door) which is approximately two inches wide, had three gaping holes in it. Apparently, the metal had melted where one could see into the glass door. The consumer indicates that the holes measured 7”, 3” and 1.5”, and that the metal dripped into the oven.

The consumer contacted the retailer and explained the situation. They informed her that her unit was out of warranty so they could not provide any assistance. The representative she spoke to advised her to contact the manufacturer.

The consumer contacted the manufacturer and informed the representative she spoke to what had transpired. The representative checked to see if her unit was recalled and found out it was not. She informed the consumer that because the unit was out of warranty, they could offer her a fifty percent discount on parts and the consumer would have to pay for labor.

The consumer indicates that this would be the third time she put the oven in the self-cleaning cycle. The consumer indicates that she uses her oven approximately five times a week, while the burners are used approximately twice daily.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Gas Ranges Model # LGGF3043KFM with serial numbers : VF20638343 (All other elements, excluding the purchase date which was April 2012 instead of March 2012) are identical to the Gas range recalled in recall number 12737, including the photos, description ( This gas range has five burners, stainless steel exterior and Frigidaire nameplate centered on the lower part of the oven door.), price point, and store purchased (Lowes) .

We recently stumbled across Recall number: 12737 when trying to report a problem with a different small appliance and felt we needed to report this as we have the exact same model Frigidaire Gas Range with what sounds like the same problem, but a slightly different serial number and ours was purchased in April 2012, intead of March of 2012. Ours was also purchased from Lowes, same price point, same issue with the top oven burner/broiler having ignition delay that would lead to a strong gas smell, buildup and then a bit of a pop as it ignited finally that we had reported to the company shortly after it was installed. We were told that there was nothing to worry about and all gas ovens did this to some extent and we were being overcautious and as long as it was lighting they wouldn’t even send a technician because basically “people were always worried about this and they would send techs and then there was nothing wrong and then they’d have to charge us for it and we would be angry”. Skeptical, but unsure, we took their word for it and decided to keep a close eye on things. About a year later we called back in as I had used the self clean function (very careful to follow the instruction manual as we were already a little leery of the oven) and after the cleaning cycle was completed the top burner and broiler function would no longer light. Unfortunately, we were several days out of warranty (I don’t remember exactly how much, but less than 3 weeks-it was the end of april or first week of may) and of course since the warranty had expired they could do nothing for us other than to send a tech out and bill us for whatever repairs were necessary. When I stated that this was an issue that I had brought to their attention much earlier and been told was “nothing and overreaction” they mysteriously could find no record of that call. Now seeing Recall number: 12737 I am wondering if our problem was more dangerous than we realized and it sounds like the same issue. We have not since been able to get it repaired due to financial concerns and are starting to smell gas more often emanating from the top burner area when we turn on the oven and are concerned it is becoming more dangerous. Frigidaire is unwilling to take any repair responsibility. Please let us know how to proceed.

We had a repair person come out and he alleges nothing is wrong. We had the gas company come out and they confirm that the carbon monoxide is present when it should not be.

I purchased a Frigidaire Gas Range Model #LGGF3032KMB from Lowe’s back in 2009. A few weeks ago I noticed that anything cooked in the oven either cooked too quick or did not cook enough. I started to keep track of the oven temperature when I used the oven and it was always off by anywhere from 20 to 80 degrees. Now the problem has escalated to the oven not turning off when I hit the off button. If I keep pushing the button eventually it will turn off but I am afraid that it may start itself up when I leave the house. Has anyone else with this range encountered this problem?

This caller is reporting her gas range purchased from retailer in Massachusetts around February 23rd, 2015. On October 21, 2015 she heard what sounded like a crash or window breaking, she went toward the sound and saw that the outer glass of the oven door had shattered and sent tiny pieces of glass over a two foot area in her kitchen. The consumer is reporting this incident as a safety hazard due to the potential for eye injury and lacerations. There were no injuries with this incident. She contacted the manufacturer October 21st, 2015 and was advised that they would provide 20% off of cost and waive the shipping fee which resulted in a cost of $79.16 for the glass then she must also pay for the repair tech to install the new glass. She is asking is she can obtain reimbursement for the cost of this repair.

The submitter stated that there were no physical injuries, but physcological [psychology] injuries. The submitter stated she had a fear it will happen again - i.e., how safe is this oven?

The consumer stated that in order to center the pan on the side burners grill, the pan has to be also placed on both the side grills and partly on the center grill. The consumer stated that since the pan is not placed evenly on two surfaces, it easily slides off. The consumer has to be very cautious and careful with pans that she uses on the center grill.

The consumer stated that she contacted the manf. They informed her that there is no recall on her unit.

The consumer had previously contacted the manf in regards to an issue with the flame on all burners. The flame was a lot more yellow than blue. A technician came out in May 2012 and he informed her that the flame was okay. The consumer was informed to make sure the pans are centered.

The consumer stated that they have not had any serious injuries, but have slightly burnt hands when the pan slides off.

my new gas range has five burners. When the knobs are pushed in you have to turn the knob in order to get gas and ignition. My problem is that by accident a knob was bumped and turned just a bit. this caused the gas to flow but it wasn’t turned on far enough to activate the ignition. We found this out the hard way because the kitchen filled with gas. I contacted Frigidaire by email and they told me this was not a design flaw and that I should just be careful. Doesn’t seem right to my, or anyone I’ve talked to.

The temp I was cooking at was 350 for 30 minutes. After the food was done and the oven had been off for about 10 minutes, the middle piece of glass in the oven door shattered. I think there are 3 pieces of glass the one that shattered was the one in the middle so the glass is mostly contained withing the door but I have been finding little pieces of glass around the oven.

They offered to send out a service technician at her expense. She declined the offer because they gave her an option to use her own repair person.

I looked at the oven, the entire in-between glass shattered inside the oven door. The range/oven is six months old. Each time I put the oven on, I heard a pop/bang. I reported this to Frigidaire in an email as well as reporting that the top door didn’t line up with the bottom door. They stated nothing was wrong with the oven. I tried to upload the pictures, but the system wouldn’t allow the upload of the pictures of the shattered glass door.

12/20/2014 (Approximately) The consumer put a pan in the range for approximately ten minutes in order to cook his dinner. After turning off the unit, the consumer noticed flames shooting up from the edges of the pan. The consumer proceeded to place a wet rag on the flames in order to stop it.

The consumer indicates the gaskets between the burners as well as the plates were damaged as they do not appear to be metal. The consumer indicates the material used may be plastic though he is uncertain of this. The consumer believes whatever material is used is wrong for appliances requiring high temperatures.

12/21/2014 (Approximately) The consumer contacted the manufacturer and explained what happened. The representative he spoke to informed him that they would send a Technician to repair his unit as he explained in detail what was damaged. The manufacturer would order the parts and have it installed.

12/30/2014 The Technician, from a service company named Great Oaks Appliance (248-624-9830) repaired the consumer’s unit by replacing the damaged parts. The Technician left the damaged parts for the consumer. The consumer indicates his range looks brand new.

The consumer states that his unit is still under warranty. The consumer indicates that this is the first time he has had any issues with his unit. The consumer indicates no damages occurred to is home but is concerned other people may not be as lucky.

The consumer has no injuries to report. The consumer believes this product poses a safety and fire hazard.

wgm 02/19/15 from consent form submitter states: The consumer put a pan on the burner for appr 10 minutes in order to cook dinner. The consumer noticed flames shooting up over the edges of the pan and fire on gasket and backplate. After turning unit off the consumer proceeded to place a wet rag on flames to stop fire.

I purchased a Fridgidaire Professional gas stove in Nov 2010. It started leaking gas from the right front eye while still under warranty. I have now had the same valve (right front eye - the master burner) replaced 5 times and the 6th valve replacement part is on order by Service Care, who has done all the work to date. I called the gas company at one point to come take a look and they turned off my gas and tagged the appliance as dangerous. Service Care and I have both called Fridgidaire customer service and they only state it is no longer under warranty and there is nothing they can do. I am no longer covered under warranty but am not currently paying for the replacement valves - I just try to call back within the parts warranty period to avoid additional charges. I am concerned with the safety issue of a gas leak that we cannot repair. Can the CPSC help since this is a safety issue? If not, do you know what other means I might try to either get this fixed once and for all or something?

I purchased a Frigidaire slide in range, model FGGS3065PW from: Goedecker’s Superstore 13850 Manchester Rd. Ballwin, MO 63011 On 10/04/2014. I am unable to find in the owner’s manual any warning concerning placing combustible materials, such as kitchen towels in the storage drawer. There was no warning sticker in the drawer stating that combustible materials should not be placed in the drawer. On 12/20/2014, the range was set at 300 degrees, approximately 10 minutes later, the kitchen towels in the storage drawer ignited, I extinguished the fire. I examined the bottom of the range, there is a clear path for anything combustible in the storage drawer to be ignited when the burner is lit. In addition to notifying you of this safety defect, I am alerting the Consumer Product Safety Commission and Consumer Reports. I would like you to send and pay for an independent authorized Frigidaire service technician to examine the range and the damage to the storage drawer. I have taken pictures of the damage to the storage drawer and will forward them to you and the above named concerns. Thank You, [REDACTED]

WE purchased a remodeled home in Sept 2014. The stove is a Frigidaire model FFGF3047LSF. The first time we used the oven, the top, front and sides were too hot to touch (if you held you hand on it for more than a second, it would burn you). I tried adjusting the burner per the manual to no avail. I have read other who have had the same problem with this oven. We just had a home energy inspection completed by Salt River Project (our electric provider) and with the oven set to 500 degrees the Co level was 86 PPM. He stated the Co level should be less then 35. It should be recalled by Frigidaire. Even the bottom front is hot enough to burn. We have pets in the house and small children that will visit at times and they “will” get burned if they are around the oven when it is on.

Stove top has electronic egnition. If you don’t notice that the burner did not light and leave it on for just a few seconds then turn the knob back to off the electric egnition will try to light as the knob goes back to off. We have LP gas and it settles and stays by the burner, we have had quite a scare when the gas ignites and the whole top of the stove is a big flame. This is a very dangerous situation for those that don’t know about it and young kids. I’m am surprised that a huge explosion has not occurred by now in someone’s home. Or maybe it has.

On October 25, 2014, we had 10 over for supper. My wife was cooking a pork roast in the lower oven and had just put the vegetables in the upper oven. I was in the other room with a couple guests when she rushed in and asked me to take a look at the oven. I opened the top oven and it exploded. The only thing I assumed was that somehow gas was getting into the upper oven but it did not ignite until I opened the door. I got a “sunburn” but nothing more serious. I called Frigidaire on Monday, October 27th and explained what had happened. The agent told me that she would call a service company to come to the house to repair. She came back on the line and told me that someone from AllState Appliance (Rhode Island) would be here the following Thursday. I told her that this was not satisfactory in as much as we were fearful to use the stove at all. I then called Allstate and they nicely got someone to come over that afternoon. The serviceman inspected the stove and told me that he thinks that when my wife “self-cleaned” the upper oven, it not only buckled the display panel but also “burned out a diode” that allowed this explosion to happen. He told me that he would order the parts and that they would be in within 7-10 days. I asked if it was safe to use the stove and he told me that it was OK to use. I didn’t get a lot of comfort considering what had happened. On November 3rd, I called Allstate to see if the parts were in. They were not in. She told me that the distributor did not have the parts in inventory. I asked again: “Is the stove safe to use?” She told me that “It should be safe after the parts are installed.” On November 11th, I called Fridigaire to see if they could expedite the delivery of the parts. [REDACTED] told me that they could not send parts to AllState as they had to send them to the distributor. “OK, so when?” [REDACTED] told me that it would be at least a week or more. I asked her if it was safe to use the stove and she told me that it should be OK. Not a lot of comfort here. This is a new stove and it appears that Frigidaire doesn’t really care about what happened. I am concerned for our safety and others who have the same stove.

The consumer shut the gas off to the appliance. After the range cooled down, the consumer open the oven door to see why everything came on by itself.

The consumer stated that he checked the internet and found similar complaints with the same model.

The consumer thinks that this product should be recalled. He does not want it repaired.

The consumer stated that his biggest scare is that this could have happened when no one was at home.

The consumer also noted the top broiler, the oven light and the convection fan were on the gas range...The computer LED readout indicated the number 8...The incident occurred either before or during a short duration thunder storm...The LED control panel would not respond to repeated attempts to shut the range down...The gas was shut off to the range and the oven receptacle, stopping the convection fan, oven light and LED display.

The consumer indicated nothing else in the house was effected by the weather which included (Ex: refrigerator, security system, microwave, washing machine, clocks, coffee pot, TV)...The range was not in use when the incident occurred..The delayed oven programming has never been utilized on the range...The range top had not been used in a week and the oven had not been used in months.

The consumer stated in contacting the mfr the recorded menu on the toll free number (1-800-944-9044) in the range manual, steers the consumer to a toll number (706-860-4110) to make an incident report...Numerous complaints were found on the internet concerning this model range, including control panel fire, one range having replaced circuit board multiple times.

The consumer also indicated Frigidaire did not advertise or disclose to consumers that this range could turn itself on unwantedly...The broiler gas valve opened without programming, human input or knowledge...A legitimate fear of this occurring during a two week vacation absence or that the broiler gas could be released without being ignited is an unacceptable risk that he is unwilling to take with this appliance.

The Frigidaire gas range was new/never used when I moved into the house in July 2012. On August 31, 2014, we cooked a pizza and turned off the oven. A short time later, the center panel of glass inside the oven door completely shattered. The outer and inner panes of glass were not impacted, however; so I do not understand how only the inner glass panel was affected. When I opened the oven door to verify that the inside pane remained intact, glass shards started falling out of the bottom of the door. Keeping the door closed helps; but tiny shards are still managing to fall out of the bottom of the door -- and I have stepped on a few of them in the last two days, even though I keep washing and re-washing the floor.

The consumer reported that she and her family were experiencing what they thought were allergy symptoms due to mold.

A specialist tested their house and detected high levels of formaldehyde. The high levels were traced to their gas oven.

Formaldehyde levels were tested twice in June 2014. The first reading was in the range of 0.24-0.35ppm, depending on the location in the home. They conducted the second test right after cooking breakfast, 4 days later from the initial test, and level was 7.7ppm.

The consumer stated that she let the house ventilate. The consumer tested the home after ventilating it and found formaldehyde level at 0.3ppm. The consumer turned on the oven and and tested the level again to see if the oven was causing the issue. The consumer stated that the formaldehyde level was high again after turning on the oven.

The consumer stated that the manufacturer was uncooperative and informed her that they haven’t received enough similar complaints to warrant a recall. The consumer was not provided any other assistance.

The consumer stated that she doesn’t use the oven anymore. The consumer continues to use the stove-top. The issue does not exist with the stove-top.

The consumer stated that she and her daughters have experienced various respiratory conditions but as of yet they have not been proven to be linked to high levels of formaldehyde.

At approximately 3:00 am I was awoken to a loud bang. It sounded as though it came from the kitchen. I was concerned someone tried to break into my home or an animal had entered into my house through the doggy door. I quietly crept into the kitchen and continued to hear a clattering noise (as though rice was being poured over a metal surface). When I turned the light on I realized there was glass all over my kitchen floor and on some counter tops. I then realized the glass covering of the oven door had shattered. Glass was scattered immediately in front of and within a 10 ft. radius of the oven door. Glass had accumulated in the warm and serve drawer underneath the oven door. There were also glass fragments on the opposing counter top (approximately 10 ft. away). The oven and stove top were not on at the time of the incident. The stove top had been used the night before around 5:00 pm. The oven had not been used and the door had not been opened in over a week. I thoroughly swept and vacuumed the glass up, however I am still picking up pieces of glass 3 weeks later. Very minor injuries have occurred as a result of the broken pieces of glass. I had a couple small scratches on my hands while cleaning up the glass. Since the incident my husband, my dogs and I have all stepped on pieces of glass and have needed to remove tiny pieces from our feet. I am reporting this incident because we have been inconvenienced by having to continually clean up pieces of glass and treat minor injuries. Additionally, I have researched the costs to repair the window and they are ranging in prices, but all over $150. I have seen other reports of this odd incident occurring. All of the reports have been similar to mine – there seemed to be an explosion of glass while the oven was not in use. I wanted to see if there have been recalls or if the Frigidaire would compensate me to have the oven repaired.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Gas Range/Oven (Model#FGGF3032MB-Serial # VF31367295)

I purchased a Frigidaire Gas Range/Oven (Model#FGGF3032MB-Serial # VF31367295) in May 2013 from a local appliance outlet (PC Richards). It was delivered to my home on May 11, 2013 and installed by the local appliance outlet. It worked until Sunday June 1, 2014, when while using the broiler, the electric key pad and range control melted. There were no items on the stove top. I was only using the broil setting when this occurred. The product has a twelve month warranty which expired on approximately May 11, 2014. I called Frigidaire and they also said the warranty expired but after listening to my complaint that the electric key pad and range control melted, the tech told me they would authorize the parts to repair it for free but I would have to pay for the service ($152.37) from an authorized repair company that have listed. Finally, today the oven was repaired, for now, but my worry is that this problem may happen again. The vent for the oven is located under the control panel. I have noticed that the vent area gets very hot when using the broil cycle. I believe this is a dangerous problem and a possible product defect. Is there any information on this problem happening with this oven for other owners? I also believe that I should be reimbursed for the service fee and Frigidaire should re-think the placement of the oven vent. I will be more wary of using this product.

(01/20/2014) The consumer stated that she was not aware of a problem until a technician came out to come out to check the furnace. She also had him to check other gas appliances. He got a reading that there was a leakage coming from the cord that connects the range to the gas line.

The technician advised the consumer that he would have to shut it off or replaced the cord. She asked him to replace it. The technician also found out that the igniter was not working properly. He discovered that the range was emitting gas and carbon monoxide. He told the consumer that it should light in 30 seconds. The consumer advised him that it had always taken about a minute. The technician advised her that that was not normal.

After the technician discovered that gas was emitting, he shut off the range and capped her gas line.

The consumer stated that she had been nauseous and had dizzy spells in the past but thought it was because she had been waiting too long to eat. She did not realize that she had been exposed to carbon monoxide.

(01/20/2014) The consumer called Frigidaire. She advised them of what happened. The consumer was advised that since the product was purchased in 2006, there was nothing that could be done. She was given a name and a p. o. box to contact the corporate office.

(01/20/2014) The consumer called Electrolux. She was advised to speak to someone named [REDACTED]. She explained the problem. The consumer was referred to the wrong person. He advised her that he was in refrigeration.

(01/20/2014) The consumer sent an email to Electrolux. She received a reply on 1/21 from [REDACTED] in Electrolux major Appliances asking for information on the products. On 1/24 the consumer received a reply offering her a discount on parts. The consumer sent a reply refusing the offer.

The reason for this complaint is to point out the danger that exists with the design of the gas valve used on our Frigidaire model LGGF3043KFM gas range. The problem occurred when we leaned against the surface control knob an unknowingly turned on the gas without activating the the igniter. I know we averted a real disaster when we detected the odor of gas as we were leaving the house for an evening out. We have contacted Electrolux, The Pa. Bureau of Consumer Protection with little satisfaction. The Company ( Eletrolux ) suggested we install a child safety device as the fix. Some fix.

I took the bread out and some stuck on the rack. I turned the oven off and left the door open to cool the oven and to remind me to clean the rack. After dinner I scraped the rack with a fork and then wiped it off.

This morning I went to work. The oven and stove remained unused.

The product, in the report: Gas Range

The consumer stated that the gas oven had just been used at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours duration. The contents were removed and while he was standing away from the unit there was a loud noise and he noticed that the outer oven glass door exploded shattering glass pieces all over the kitchen floor and into another room. Some glass pieces were found as far as 5-6 feet away. No injuries were sustained from this incident.

9/30/13 The manufacturer was contacted and he was informed that the product was covered under warranty. The consumer feels that this range is a safety hazard and should be reported. The gas range is not involved in a recall.

The product, in the report: frigidaire cook-top/oven model FPGF3081KFN serial VFF30570429 used for cooking

My issue is with a cook-top/oven from Frigidaire. The item is known as model FPGF3081 KFN serial VF30570429.The knobs of the cook-top are defective. When one grazes the knobs, they randomly slightly turn on thus causing a gas leak. It only takes a slight graze pass the knob to open it. Additionally, as you may reach forward to use a above mounted microwave, a slight rubbing on the knobs causes them to open. In any case, one does not know the knob is beginning to emit gas. the open knob is only slightly open but enough to cause gas to leak. we have had the above experiences 4 times since 4/4/2013. we have experienced our kitchen filling with gas on all occasions. It can potentially be an explosive situation. It will only take a spark or lighting a match to explode the kitchen or the whole house. The knobs need to be hard to push in before the gas valve is turned to left. They are not. Frigidaire has been contacted twice. they refuse to investigate with their technician or outside repair person. They only claim that they made for shorter people.

Again, I mustrepeat that a slight rubbing on any of the gas knobs causes them to slightly open and emit gas. this occurs even before it reaches the electronic ignition location.

I ask that frigidaire be called to task on this unsafe and very dangerous design.

The product, in the report: Gas range, double oven, 5 burner gas sealed burner top. Frigidaire model FGGF304DLW3, serial number NF20217847

I purchased a gas range from Lowe’s Model No. FGGF304DLW3. It has two quick boil burners, one on the right front, one on the left rear. I boiled a tall pot of spaghetti water on the left rear burner and the instrument panel buckled, as if it was melting. I reported this to Lowe’s and said I was afraid it would catch fire if I continued to use it. They sent a repair guy who said he would replace the panel but that it was not safe to use the back burner for a tall pot.

Lowe’s does not have an equivalent stove (features and price) and now they are offering only one option: upgrade to another stove and pay an additional $700. I asked them to accept the original stove as a return and refund my money, but they refused.

I have a photo I can send if you would like.

The product, in the report: 4 burner gas range. Bought New. Glass on oven door shattered about a month later without using the oven or hitting the glass.

After about a month of living in my newly built home, one morning I was getting ready to go to work when I hear glass shattering and my cat is running frantically away from the kitchen. I walk over to see what happened and my sister said that the glass in the oven door just shattered into a million pieces without warning. She said that she was just making coffee and wasn’t even near the stove. My builder bought the stove probably sometime in April because I bought the house on May 9, 2013. I never used the oven once because I don’t bake. I did call Frigidaire and they sent me a new glass and a guy came to install it for me. So far the new one hasn’t shattered but I read an news article saying that I am not the only person who has experienced this before. Here is the link to the article: http://www.wpxi.com/news/news/local/target-11-investigates-exploding-oven-glass/nWGYX/.

The product, in the report: Gas Oven

The caller stated that the oven safety valve had a failure which caused gas to escape. He had entered his kitchen to an overwhelming gas odor. He had to power the unit off from the circuit breaker, the room was ventilated to prevent a possible combustion.

(8/19/13) The manufacturer was contacted and they confirmed that the safety valve failed to work correctly and would replace it at a cost to the consumer. It was then bargained to a fraction of the cost.

The product model and serial is not included in a recall.

The caller is concerned that this oven which he only had for 5 years has a safety hazard which should be investigated.

I turned on my oven for it to heat up. I placed food in the oven. After about 15 minutes, I realized a very strong smell of gas in my house. I immediately turned off the oven and opened windows. I made my family leave the house. I also shut off the gas to the oven and I called the gas company. The man from the gas company investigated. He detected gas leaking immediately. He told me that the IFM valve needed to be repaired or replaced. He said that the door of the oven could have explosively burst off the oven if I continued to use the stove. He had to clamp off the gas to the stove for safety reasons until I have it repaired. The stove is less that 4 years old.

The gas ignited when the door was opened. This happened in the lower oven twice between April 2012 and May 2013. Each time the oven was set to preheat and the indicator showed the temperature rising. A gas smell kept getting stronger. When I opened the door, there was immediate combustion of the gas.

The first time it singed my hair, eyebrows and melted my eyelashes. Although my face felt hot, it was not burned. I called the manufacturer who directed me to have it looked at by an appliance repair person. He came by but could not replicate the problem (it was under warranty). The repairman advised me to use the unit cautiously, standing to the side when opening the door in case of a reoccurrence.

Today, May 13, 2013, the smell of gas was getting stronger while the digital display showed the lower oven pre-heating. I cautiously opened the door, standing to the side after the first incident. The gas ignited and singed the hair on my right arm. I called the manufacturer again who directed me to call an appliance repair person. I called Apple Appliance Service again and left a message, waiting to schedule an appointment.

April 15, 2013 US Consumer Product Safety Commission 4330 East West Highway Bethesda, MD 20814 Regarding: Important danger in the following product We purchased a new Frigidaire Gas Range from Sears in Coeur d’Alene, 10 in October, 2012 for our new home. The range is a Gallery Model# FGGF3031KBJ/VF20747412. Our Microwave is set above the range where the cabinet provides the space, as most are. When you put something in the microwave or take something out it is natural to lean against the front of the range to reach it. The pressure from leaning on the nobs ignites a burner and has caused many close calls from catching our clothes on fire. Also there has been three times that the burners did not ignite but the gas has escaped into the rooms. The last incident was yesterday. I was sick in bed with a bad cold and my husband came home and I got up to greet him. He said, “What is that smell?” and I said “I don’t smell anything!” A burner was just slightly turned and it had probably been like that since I warmed my coffee in the microwave that morning. We rushed to open everything up and it took hours to get the gas out. I had been in the back bedroom most of the day. I am asking you what would be the right action for us to take so we don’t burn our new house down. We can’t always remember to check the burners and sometimes other people in the family use the stove. As I said, it turns a burner on with just the slightest pressure on the nobs when you are reaching up and if you turn your body to set something down after using the microwave. We were very lucky that were not burned badly or were not asphyxiated from the gas fumes. Please inform us what we should do in this case. We like the range except for this problem. Sincerely, [REDACTED] cc: US Consumer Product Safety Commission Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers

On Monday March 4, 2013 at about 9:15PM I wiped my gas kitchen stove off with a kitchen dishcloth, I remember in the back of my mind that when I wiped the stove it seem to hang just bit on one of the knobs.......(not knowing that it turned the gas on and passed the automatic ignition button) I left the kitchen and laid down. About 11:15PM I walked back into kitchen and realized that the gas was leaking from back burner without any flame. At that time It had been expelling gas for over 2 hours. I immediatley turned the burner to the off position. The gas smell was very strong and I immediatley open a couple of windows and went out the front door, called Center Point Entergy and reported the gas problem. About 30 minutes later the gas company arrived and noted that when they got out of the truck that he could smell gas immediately in the yard, he checked the gas meter and inside house to make sure the leak was not elsewhere (which it was not). The kitchen area is located in the central part of my 3,000 sg ft house, therefore I believe the gas spread thruout the kitchen area and great room and maybe that is why I did not smell it until I walked into the kichten again. CenterPoint Entergy recommended not to stay in the house that night.

This was a very dangerours event and how it turned the gas on without the igination switch lighting the stove.

Recently had new construction at a shore residence with new kitchen appliances purchased from Gerhards in Philadelphia.

On Saturday, February 23, we tried to use the Frigidaire range for the FIRST time. Following the instructions from the associated manual for the range.....I preheated the oven to 400 degrees and opened window to allow any smoke from the new appliance to escape.

As the oven was warming - never reached 400 degrees - we heard a lot “POP” and saw that the glass in the oven door shattered - blown out! The shattered glass was in the door, and in the oven, and some glass pellets fell out the door.

Luckily nobody in my family was injured. But now I have a brand new appliance that I am fearful of using. Since the range is brand new, I am now waiting a couple of weeks until a Frigidaire’s service representative comes for “repairs”...... They are scheduled for March 19th. Repairs??? It is a gas range. What blew out the glass? What if the gas line in the range caught on fire?? What if there was an explosion??

Good god. This is definitely a manufacturing defect and needs to be recalled!

The product, in the report: Frigidaire gas range

Frigidaire gas range gets very hot on the top, sides and puts out so much heat when baking, that you can’t stand in front of the burner to cook. The top of the stove becomes so hot, one burns your hand. Also, the bottom of the stove is very hot and a small dog or child could burn themselves. When you use the broiler, and you touch the top of the stove can burn your hand. I had a Sear Home Services technician come out on Jan 28, 2013, as ordered by the Home Warranty company, and the technician said that there is nothing wrong with the stove, that it is just poorly manufactured, and that, yes, you can burn yourself on it. He continued to state that the Frigidaire literature states that the top of the stove can get to 131 degrees, and that is normal. We all know that is a scalding temperature. I then called Frigidaire, and and they sent their own technician out today, Feb. 6, 2013. He immediately knew the problem with this stove, and agreed that it is a dangerous stove and poorly manufactured, and that there is nothing that can be done with this stove, that it should be replaced by Frigidaire, but he could only send the report to his management. I told him that I have reported the problem to both Consumer Report and to the Consumer Product Safety Division. He agreed this was the only thing that would get Frigidaire to do anything, as they continue to sell this stove. I expect Frigidaire to replace this new, unsafe stove. I live in CO, and bought this house in Palm Desert, CA for my winter home. The remodeling company put in a new Frigidaire dishwasher and gas range, so it had not been used when I bought the home, closing on Aug. 14, 2012. I came out for the winter Dec. 22, 2012. The dishwasher is also a poor product, in that it doesn’t clean the dishes well, and makes a lot of noise. However, it is not a safety issue....the stove is. I have small children coming to visit in March, and am very concerned about their safety, as well as my own in using the current stove. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, [REDACTED]

We purchased a Frigidaire gas range from Lowes during March of 2012. After installation I have to walk past the stove to get to the sink. In doing so, I sometimes accidentally rub against the stove with the result that one of the burners turns on. Most of the time it ignites but at times it does not. I am 81 years of age and hard of hearing. When my wife id near she hears the gas escape and warns me. A couple times it did not ignite and released gas for some time before being detected.

The knobs for the top burners for a newly purchased Fridaire gas stove require no more than 1-2 mm of depression before they easily turn, releasing gas into the kitchen. We have had the stove for only a week and already the kitchen has filled with gas three times. The slightest bump or brush rotates the knobs turning on the gas with no discernable noise or effort.

I’ve owned the frigidaire gas oven/stove for 2 1/2 years. The model is LGGF3032KWF serial # VF01457214. The oven was leaking carbon monoxide. The firemen shut off the gas to the oven until it is serviced and fixed. There were no injuries since we reacted to the carbon monoxide alarm quickly. I have contacted frigidaire at this point. I am waiting to see if there are other complaints and also to see how they respond. Other people may not be so lucky.

I have a freestanding gas range from Frigidaire that was purchased about June, 2010. The model # is FGGF3041KFF; the serial # is VF01456583.

Per a service visit and customer service from Frigidaire, the range has no safety mechanism to either reignite or cut off gas, should a flame go out on the rangetop.

When the flame gets too low, it goes out. And it does not reignite.

The product, in the report: Frigidare Gas Range Model # FGGF3032KB Serial # VF13055862

I purchased a Frigidare Range(Model # FGGF3032KB Serial # VF13055862) in November, 2011, and since that time gas flowing from the burners without igniting has filled our kitchen on 3 occasions. We were lucky we did not have an explosion or become asphyxiated. The burner knobs have a mark pointing UP when it is off, but the gas knob needs to be depressed less than 1/16 of an inch to start the gas flowing. So if the knob gets bumped to the left less than ¼ to ½ inch off center, the gas will flow and you need to turn the knob about a ¼ turn to the left to start the clicking noise for the burner to ignite. We are adults, have no children in the home, and have had gas ranges for over 30 years. We have had none like this range that has knobs so easily depressed by bumping against them to cause gas to flow without the operator being aware of it. We contacted Frigidare customer service on 3 occasions, once by email and twice by phone, to see if the range has any recalls or a “fix” for this problem. They maintain that it is user error and the range is constructed within company standards. If we had small children in our home they could easily turn the knob so the gas flows out, as the knob is so easily depressed. The history of my last 2 contacts with them are as follows:

Most recently I emailed Frigidare Customer Service and corresponded with [REDACTED]. These are copies of the email content: ________________________ [REDACTED] [REDACTED]- the Frigidare Model is FGGF3032KBJ and Serial# is VF13055862. The issue... Nov 23 (9 days ago)

CAC Product Issues and Questions Nov 26 (6 days ago) to me The knobs should not turn on simply by brushing against them. You should have to push in first and then turn. When you turn the burners off the knobs should pop out , locking them in place until you push in again.

It is possible to turn them on by accident if you lean or push against the range with enough force to push the knobs in , but it should not happen by lightly contacting the knobs.

Check to see if they lock out when you turn them off. If they don’t then you need to call our customer service department at 800-944-9044 and let them assist you in setting up a service call to have the range checked.

I know that you should have to push the knob in to start gas flowing, but the gas starts flowing when they are off dead center , arrow pointing up, and they haven’t been pushed in. So I will be calling customer service as you suggested. Is there a reference number for my contact with you or is it the serial number? Thanks! [REDACTED]________________________________________ I then called Frigidare Customer Service: (706) 860 4110, as instructed by a email customer service rep, [REDACTED]. On 11/29/12 3:55 PM I spoke with representative [REDACTED]. I explained why I was calling and asked [REDACTED] the following questions and wrote down his responses: 1. Are there any complaints or recalls about this product with the problem I described? [REDACTED] said : There are no complaints or recalls on this model. 2. Are the gas knobs for burners supposed to be rigid or have ¼ in “play” up or down or sideways? [REDACTED]: Yes should have that amount of “play” in them to avoid being turned on. 3. How much far does the knob need to be pushed in toward the range before the gas starts flowing? [REDACTED]: Very little, maybe as little as 1/16th of an inch. 4. When the knob is depressed, how far to the left must you turn the knob before the clicking noise begins informing you that it is trying to light the gas flowing out? [REDACTED]: The knob could be turned a ¼ of a turn to the left without the igniter clicking…it has to have time for the gas to flow up to the ignition point. 5. So you are saying it is an industry standard for the gas to flow out indefinitely without hearing the igniter clicking sound? [REDACTED]: Yes, that is normal. 6. We are able to turn the knob only ¼ inch to the left and have enough gas flow out so we can ignite the range burner with a handheld butane lighter, and that burner remains lit even though the igniter has never caused the clicking sound? [REDACTED]: Although I have never done this, I suppose you could as the gas needs to flow up to the igniter before lighting the range. It appears your range is working normally, but if you feel it is unsafe I can give you some Tucson authorized repair agents that you could pay to come out and check its operation. You and I can not come to an agreement about your range, and you could hire a technician to check further. ______________________________

I am writing you as I contacted Frigidare for a fix to make it safer in my home as I like this range otherwise. I was disappointed in their response. However, I also feel this is a real hazard, especially for families for children

Thanksgiving day. Had finished baking @ 350degrees convection for 1 1/2 hours. Oven had been off at least 20 minutes. Warming drawer holding covered food. Luckily everyone was either outside or behind the safety of the cooking island when the tempered glass on the outer oven door spontaneously exploded into a thousand pieces. Thankfully no one was injured and the inside of the oven was protected. I have had lots of experience with ovens but have never heard of this happening before even in lower end models. It seems to me to be a defect in the glass. Frigidaire has not recalled this product, and they state that it is not under warranty but emphasize the need to use a professional Frigidaire technician to make the repair. I guess it would be dangerous to have a non professional install the glass....it might explode...hmmm?

The product, in the report: Frigidaire 30” Gallery Free Standing Gas Range

Product: Frigidaire 30” Gas/Convection Range #FGGF3054MBC Purchased: September 7, 2012 from Allan & Peterson local retailer Installed in home Oct 11, 2012. 2 weeks old at time of incident After using the Broil feature (550 degrees) to cook fish on rack #5 for about 10 minutes and warm bread on rack # 2 for the last 5 minutes of cooking, I turned off the oven and set all my items on top of the cook top grates while I dished up plates. The fish was on a foil lined cookie sheet and the bread was in a glass bake dish that I covered with a towel to keep warm. I heard a beeping and looked to see why that happened when I had already turned off the oven and noticed the towel covering my bread was on fire. The over range outside vent was on, the flames were lapping up on the electric control panel of the oven and had turned on the “pizza” setting so the oven actually turned on. I was able to put out the fire without injuries. The dish with bread covered in the towel was sitting at the back of the stove top, where the heat exhaust exits the oven. This area remained extremely hot and unable to be touched, including directly below the electric control panel. The lower half of the electric panel is now burned, plastic has bubbled and is disfigured but still controls the oven. A few hours after this incident, the electric panel began to display error messages and I had to unplug the stove. This oven is only two weeks old, I have three children in the house under age 5 and I am extremely concerned about this safety feature. There is a small warning in the instruction manual regarding the safety risk of burns or ignition but I believe the company needs to sell safer products, not expect the consumer to “watch out” for heat escaping from the oven causing a kitchen fire.

The consumer says there is a high whistling noise with the front burner and the oven. A technician replaced the pressure regulator. He says that when the oven is on there is an odor and burning sensation. It is not a natural gas odor, more of a burning gas. The consumer feels the stove is completely dangerous.

The consumer says when the oven comes on, he has a high whistling noise. When the flame is turned off the noise goes away. This is in conjunction with the top burner and the oven. The first issue was with the right top burner. Then it started in the oven.

He contacted the manufacturer, they sent a repairman who replaced the regulator and said that is all he can do. He says it has been a year since this incident began. The consumer would like the stove replaced.

The knobs on the front are so loose and so easily to turn that we often times turn on the gas just by bumping them. even our dog can turn on the knobs enough for the gas to escape! Twice we have been outside working on the yard, and our dog turned on the gas filling the entire house with gas!! We had to open all the windows, and turn on the fans for the air to clear after several hours. We feel like this stove is extremely unsafe!! If our dog can turn on the gas, what about children?? This is an ongoing problem. I would say the gas is accidentally bumped on at least once a month!!

We absolutely love this stove except for the fact that when you use the oven, it looks like there is a big puff of gas in there when the ignitor fires of and a smell of gas after. It happens consistently every time I use the oven. It’s a very loud and scary noise ... considering it is gas, I am not confident about using this oven anymore. It looks exactly the same as the stove that has a recall already (Alert #12-737) except that it has the warming drawer on the bottom. It seems like it is doing the same exact thing as the recall, too.

I Heated a pot of water, and turned the burner off, but the burner would not turn off. After turning it off and on several times, and lighting other burners, it finally went off. The gas guy came out, and when he turned the burner on low, the flame had re-adjusted to a high flame. He re-adjusted the flame height, turned the burner off, and back on. When he turned it back on, the flame height was again high on low, and then the burner would not shut off. We then began to smell heavy gas fumes, and he had to run out to the tank to shut the main tank off. He deemed the stove hazardous, and disconnected the gas line from it. He surmised that he thought the valve may be coming apart, which could cause an explosion. The stove was only 5 months old.
