    The product, in the report: 36’’ liquid propane cooktop

    I am reporting a serious safety defect involving a Frigidaire propane cooktop manufactured by Electrolux. The center burner intermittently explodes or flares violently when the control knob is turned from the on or burn position to off. This has occurred multiple times over the past few months.

    The product was installed new as part of a builder-supplied appliance package in my newly constructed home. The cooktop is connected to a standard household propane line and used under normal cooking conditions by adult family members. The incidents occurred during ordinary use most recently while turning off the center burner after boiling water.

    After the first few occurrences, East Coast Appliances (the retailer) inspected the unit and replaced components, but the problem persisted. An Electrolux-certified technician later examined the cooktop, confirmed that the burners were defective, and recommended complete replacement. Despite these service attempts, Electrolux has only offered a refund, leaving us without a safe cooking appliance.

    Fortunately, no injuries have occurred yet, but the explosions have produced large bursts of flame and loud popping sounds that could easily result in burns, fire, or property damage if someone were standing close to the cooktop. Given the repeated failures and potential for serious injury, I am submitting this report for safety documentation and investigation.

It clearly was slightly turned but no one had made any food, so it must have been bumped like all the other recalled Frigidaire stoves, and when my husband came home the entire house was full of propane, he was nauseated, and we are lucky my dog didn’t die.     When the nobs on Frigidaire gas stove model GCFG3060BF were accidentally bumped the gas was turned on without igniting. There is no automatic cut off so the kitchen filled with gas. Fortunately it was warm weather with the door open and the house did not explode as it would have if it had been winter with a fire going

    while using the quick boil burner on my Frigidaire range, the burner caught fire. The fire was so hot it melted the burner knob off the front. Since the original purchase, there was no way to get the yellow flames to stop, and have just a blue flame. I contacted Frigidaire and they would not take a dangerous product report. They also refused to help me with the yellow flame issue.

    I had called over an Appliance repair person to just do a check up of the Stove and Oven to make sure everything was working property before I rented out the Home. Oven was turned on. There was nothing in the oven and we had just turned it on. After a few minutes, the bottom caught fire. We immediately try to put out the fire. This incident took place at [REDACTED] on Monday September 8, 2025. The Fresno Fire Department was called out to make sure there were no additional gas leaks or risks but fire was already put out by the time the Firemen came.

    2/06/25 we purchased a Frigidaire Gas Range at Lowe’s in Petoskey Mi. it had to be ordered ,shipped to store, then delivered to our home. we use propane at our home so Lowe’s gave us the adaptor kit when we purchased . it was delivered on 2/26/25 we put in the adaptor kit and started using the stove. the burners on top of the stove burned hot and the oven took a long time to heat up but we kept using it. the instructions said so burn off was expected but it actually blacked the enterior of the oven and racks. we used the cleaning cycle and washed the oven racks by hand. the door to the stove became discoloured and my pans. eventually i noticed when using the oven it would start out with a foot high flame and knew something was wrong. so we called Frigidaire since it was under warranty and they sent out a technician in June, he immediately told us that the adaptor kit was the wrong one for this oven and he had to get the right one. i complained about the discoloured parts and he said they would look into replacing . the 2nd visit he replaced the adaptor kit but after that we could smell gas when using the oven. so they suggested we do the cleaning cycle again but could still smell gas when using the oven. 3rd visit he came back and replaced the burner unit in the oven, the discoloured glass and top burners that did not match my oven. afterwards we could still smell gas when using the oven and they came back the 4th time and had us preheat the oven so he could use the sniffer and see if we had a gas leak. it took 40 minutes for him to arrive and by then the gas smell was so bad that my husband had to leave the room the technician used the sniffer and could find no leak and said he did not smell gas which was what he reported to frigidaire. now frigidaire will not replace the range until they send another technician for second opinion. this has been going on for 2 months. we called gas company and no leaks in our gas lines but they did smell the gas smell when oven in use .

    Dear Sir/Madam:

    On 5/13/20241 took delivery of the above noted Frigidaire Gallery Gas Slide-In Range from Sohn’s Appliance Center in Walden, NY. I have owned a number of Frigidaire and Frigidaire Gallery appliances over the years, so I had no hesitation in buying this range. I am writing to you now because I want to be sure your company is aware of the issues I have encountered with this appliance, especially because leaking natural gas is highly flammable and I believe this situation could easily lead to a fire. When initially installed, and through a short period of acclimation as we set various controls and familiarized ourselves with the range, all seemed well. We started noticing a slight odor of gas when the oven was put on. This grew in intensity and I finally called Sohn’s about it. They sent their repair person to the house on 9/23/2024. He seemed to know immediately what the problem was. He pulled out the range and made an adjustment to the insulation. He said it was a due to insulation hanging down between were the gas tube hooked up to another piece inside the oven. This problem is caused during manufacturing. Afterwards, it seemed to be corrected. I called your customer service on 4/24/2025 to report a problem we were having with the dials on the front of the range. Our cat jumped up onto the adjourning counter and hit the dial with his foot. This turned on the dial and gas. Thankfully, it did not ignite the burner. Subsequently we found on several occasions, that while cooking or working in the kitchen, if we bumped one of the dials, the same thing happened and gas started pouring out of a burner or the burner ignited when we did not want it lit. We are normal sized people, and this is simply not acceptable. Your customer service scheduled a repair call with [REDACTED] for 4/29/2025. The repair person arrived and looked at the range and the burners, turning them on and off repeatedly. He told me they were working as designed, that these days people don’t want to push in the dial to use it. He had no fix and no solution. I had purchased [REDACTED] Silicone Stove and Oven Safety Knob Locks from [REDACTED]. I showed these to the repair person, who tried them and agreed they were a good fix for the problem. We are continuing to use these, as well as carefully monitor the situation. I am disappointed with the quality of the range and concerned with the nature of the two types of issues we have encountered, as both involved leakage of natural gas, which is dangerous. I am further disappointed that Electrolux/Frigidaire did not offer any true fix for these issues. I struggle to believe I am the only user of this product with these issues. I did purchase an extended warranty for $304.90 ($281.99 + tax $22.91). While this does not address the issues I have written about here, it does provide me some assurance that any future issues will be addressed and hopefully repaired. In addition to notifying Electrolux/Frigidaire of this dangerous situation by means of this letter. I am reporting these issues to the [REDACTED]. I am also reporting this to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission. It will be posted online on their SaferProducts.gov site, might I add where numerous other complaints of exactly this issue are to be found. Had I known about this issue prior to purchasing this range, I would not have bought it. Rest assured that despite having purchased several Frigidaire Gallery appliances over the years with safe use, I will not buy a Frigidaire appliance again. The fact that this issue has been reported numerous times and no fix has been made, nor, according to the incident reports on SaferProducts.gov, your company has been clearly lacking in your consumer support.

    Our cat jumped up to the counter and hit the front dial on our Frigidaire Gallery Range, turning on the gas, but not igniting the burner. Since then this has occurred several times if one of us accidently bumps any of the dials. The smell of gas quickly fills the house, and creates a serious safety hazard. This first occurred March 2025 and has occurred several times hence. I called Frigidaire to complain. They sent a service technician, who tested out the range and all the dials. He said it is operating as it is supposed to and offered no assistance of solution to this problem. I have since reported these event to Electrolux/Frigidaire in writing. These happened in my home in New York, USA.

    Frigidaire slide in gas stove: More than once have I or someone brushed against the front of stove where knobs are located and unknowingly bumped the knob just enough that it turns and then minutes later we smell gas and don’t know why.     While preparing dinner, I preheated our Frigidaire oven to 400 degrees. Upon opening the doven door, the front door glass immediately shattered, spraying a cone of glass shards several feet outwards. There were no impacts or bumps into the oven prior to this shattering. Everything appeared perfectly normal and functional. This oven is approximately one year old and should not experience this type of issue. This is a major safety issue.

    Purchased a gas cooktop and one burner had very execess flame on high setting. Found the 18,000 btu burner had a orifice installed for 26,560 btu burner. Electrolux rep gave me an orifice to drill out which I did to a 17,560 burner (0.070 inch). I am a retired Professional Engineer which are required to report safety problems. Also the supplied hardware cannot be used to install the unit per the instructions in two way: Screw clamp and the missing rubber seal strips. Mfgr need to review design and the installation instructions. This problem has existed since 2006 or before. All is well with may modifications. It now is a great unit.

    My Electrolux stovetop (model FFGC3626SS) had a voluntary recall last year because the plastic knob stems could break making it to where you could not turn the gas stove off. I got the replacement knobs less than 1 year ago and installed them. It turns out that the replacement knobs also have plastic stems that just look like chrome. The result was that the other day I could not turn off the gas on my stovetop because the knob stem had broken in the same way as the original recall. This was just from normal residential use and occurred on the knob that was used most often, but no strong turn or anything that would cause it to break. I had to run to the garage to get pliers to turn off the gas. Very lucky that the range had lit and it wasn’t just pure gas or my kitchen would have been filling with gas. No injuries occurred, but for all the same reasons as the original recall, these replacement knobs should be recalled.

    The glass in my Fridgidaire oven shattered without warning. I was using the oven, cooking food at 350 degrees F. I heard a creaking sound, then a crash/explosion. Shattered glass is all over the inside of the oven, the drawer underneath, and on the floor the floor. I was able to clean up the floor before my dog came in the kitchen. I’m renting this house, and moved here in April 2024. There was no warning that this was an issue.

    The product, in the report: Frigidaire Gas Range Oven Model # FF GC 36 26 SS - Range Oven Knobs: Turning the knobs on the range top lights the pilot for the burner, adjusts the flame height, and turns off the pilot. The knobs were recalled in 2023 due to the heat from the flames compromising the integrity of plastic shaft. In November 2023, I was sent a ‘courtesy’ set of the new design, knobs with a silver colored shaft. It is now September 2024 and all but one is broken and the last one has become loose. The replacements are approximately $22.00 on [REDACTED], but I do not believe I should have to pay close to $125.00 dollars to replace these knobs due to their known history of faulty manufacturing. They also pose a health risk due to possible gas leaks when they break.

    RE: Frigidaire Gas Range Oven Model # FF GC 36 26 SS - Range Oven Knobs 1. The knob broke, leaving my daughter unsure how to safely shut off the gas. She called me and she was able to use needle nose pliers to turn the gas off. These knobs have been replaced at least 5 times since 2020 as “courtesy” after much persistence on my part. The last set, the one that resulted in gas leaking, was from the new design, after the product recall. All but one of the 5 that were sent to me about 10 months ago have broken. 2. Frigidaire Gas Range Oven Model # FF GC 36 26 SS - Range Oven Knobs 3. My young adult daughter who called me when she said that the knob broke off in her hand & the flame had gone out. She thought she smelled gas & wasn’t sure what to do. 4. She was trying to boil water for Mac & Cheese. 5. There could have been a fire, especially if she had not recognized the smell of gas and tried cooking or lighting a candle. She could have inhaled the fumes over a long period of time in our closed kitchen, leading to hypoxia -illness, or worse. 6. No injuries occurred. She called me & we problem solved how to turn off the gas at the range using needle nose pliers.

    The stove is a Frigidaire Gallery Gas Range #GCRG3060AFB. The stove was purchased in January of 2021. It worked fine for maybe a few months then began beeping and the display would show “666...”. The number of 6’s would vary. It seemed to happen after the oven was preheated. Pressing the TIMER button would do nothing. Then after a few minutes the control display would beep and then the timer could be set normally. The problem got worse over the next few years. Instead of a few minutes it would last over 20 minutes still preheating and now it started to show up during baking/cooking. The controls over the oven would be locked as in hitting the off button wouldn’t do anything. I would have to wait and see if I’m able to hit any buttons on the control. I don’t use the oven a lot so I wasn’t quite sure why this is happening. I’ve talked with the Frigidaire customer service and they didn’t seem to know the answer. I looked online and it appears other people have the same issues. I also noticed that they have other models recalled.

    I have a Frigidaire gas stove. My husband and I use it to do our cooking and baking. [REDACTED] has a recall on front mounted knobs that look exactly as ours do. If you lean forward on this stove, the knobs sometimes turn on the gas and you can burn yourself up on the flames. We have been lucky not to have been burned by these flames. In addition, the original knobs would become butrning hot when the oven was on. Jetsons, from whom I bought the stove replaced the stainless steel knobs with plastic which helped that problem, but the turning on problem remains. It is extremely scary that someone will accidentally light the gas flames by leaning forward or bumping the knobs. Why a recall on [REDACTED] and not Frigidaire?

    Purchased Frigidaire gas wall oven 2 years ago; leaking carbon monoxide while in use. 31 year old female made dinner the other night and carbon monoxide went to extreme unsafe high levels (400 ppm) setting off carbon monoxide detector. 1 year old and 31 year old spouse present upon alarm setting off. Fire department, gas company, ems, police contacted and home was ventilated and leak was determined from appliance. Combustion noted on appliance, provided in picture. Gas company flagged appliance. Unable to use until resolved. 31y female who was making dinner had headaches and lightheadedness days following incident. Evaluated by EMS. Did not seek further medical help at that time. No other injuries reported from other people present in home. Contacted Frigidaire (maker) who stated because it was outside of 1 year warranty would not replace. Will continue to pursue compensation. Repair man was uncomfortable working on appliance and recommended replacement due to safety concerns with child in home.

    I moved at the end of May 2022 to [REDACTED] [REDACTED] was very intoxicated by stove failures at another place called [REDACTED], report all faults to [REDACTED] also to [REDACTED] but emergency evacuation, in the [REDACTED] apartments the stove looked new, My symptoms improved a little and I have been to the doctor 3 times a week trying to feel better, I noticed the smell of stove gas during my visits. My children began to have a lot of fatigue, and inflammation of the skin and abdomen, as well as respiratory problems. In my case it was vertigo, severe inflammation and pain, bleeding in my bowel movements. among other symptoms, These symptoms improved when I left my apartment for more than 2 hours. I asked for help from maintenance, the stove company, Frigidaire, which had a warranty and they sent me information and I gave it to the apartment managers who ignored me. I have not stopped with this situation and concluded after already asking multiple opinions that the stove It simply has a defect that can cause someone to lose their life. The problem disappears when disconnected, which I have been without a stove all this time, 2 years.

After doing some troubleshooting of our own regarding the flame height, we called for a technician to come out and take a look at it. The technician documented flames of up to 1ft high on all but the lowest burner settings. He verified with technicians that there were no current fixes available for the issue.     new Frigidaire Gallery Air Fryer Range caught fire in Air Fryer mode. range (Serial Number: VF33000894) delivered on December 8, 2023.

    I own other Frigidaire Gallery products and I have never had a complaint until now. The stove was installed on December 11, 2023. I read the manual and practiced using all features. When I used the air fryer component the stove caught fire. I was able to extinguish the flame but there was a metal pan that was damaged (burnt). I live in a multifamily condominium in a flat (one unit) apartment that has 2 smoke detectors. Both alarms went off and the apartment immediate filled with smoke. I am lucky that I have a window in the kitchen and another in the adjacent dining area, as well as a living room window. All windows had to be open and a tower fan turned on to get the smoke out of the apartment. If I had been distracted, my neighbors would have called the fire department by hearing multiple alarms and smoke could have entered the common hallway.

    I called your customer service to report the incident on December 22, 2023. A service appointment was made for December 27, 2023 with [REDACTED] No repairman showed up. I again contacted Frigidaire customer service and again told them about the fire in the stove. I requested a different repair service company because of my inability to contact G&G Appliance about the missed appointment. Another repair service call was scheduled for January 4, 2024 with [REDACTED] . The repairman came and said the fire was caused by grease. I showed him the burnt pot and he said he smelled grease. I told him that I had already used the steam cleaning and self-cleaning features and the stove was clean. He turned the air fryer on at 500 degrees and told me to open all the windows for 1 hour to burn off the grease.

    I purchased a Frigidaire gas range model# PCFG3078AF. Upon inspection of the range after delivery I noted that I kept making the burners come on, with out attempting to. I continued unwrapping it and went to slide it into place and noted the burners kept turning on, I didn’t have the gas hooked up, therefore there was no injury. The slightest touch of your body with a turn will ignite the burners, a very unsafe situation. I reported this issue to the store and pointed out the problem to the store manager. A child could easily as well as an adult be severely burned, or even worse.

    On Monday, September 11, 2023, my Frigidaire Professional 36’’ Gas Cooktop model FPGC3685KSB had a fire internally, under the knobs. We were boiling water on the center burner and had turned the water down to a simmer. I looked and noticed only the inner gas ring was burning and went to turn up the heat. The knob burned me and I noticed discoloration on the metal next to the knobs (like when metal gets very hot). I used pliers to lift the knob off, and saw flames in the hole. I then used a small fire extinguisher to extinguish the flames. Prior to this, we had noticed that if the center burner was turned down, there was sometimes a large boom. That had happened a few times, but the gas company didn’t find a leak after we called them when it started, several years ago.

    Four months ago I bought a Frigidaire Range (gas and electric, stainless steel). I have had a repairman out here 4 times because when you have the oven on the outside gets too hot to touch. First they changed the fan, and since then have just concluded that is the way it is. They say it may be uncomfortable to touch (very, and I have grandkids who touch it and ended up in tears), but it doesn’t actually burn the skin. This is unacceptable to me, and I told them I either wanted a different model or a refund. The refuse both. The last repaiarman measured the outside temperature at 141 degrees at a 400 degree oven. It gets much hotter at 450. I am 74 years old and have had many ovens in my life, I have never had one that is to hot to touch on the outside of it.

It had been off for 5 minutes. A screw on the bottom of the oven door apparently gets extremely hot, and if you reach to open the drawer, it’s very easy to get badly burned there. If you just bump into them they turn on and the gas is left on. I had to buy a Gas/Propane detector to monitor the stove in case we don’t realize the knob was accidentally turned on. This is a hazard and a possible explosion waiting to happen.

    (approx.. 12/15/2022) The consumer was pre-heating the oven, but when she checked it 20 minutes later, it was still on the “pre-heat” setting and the oven was cold. She turned it off and stopped using it.

    A few days later, her girlfriend suggested that they simply re-light the oven pilot. They unscrewed the metal plate at the bottom of the oven. There was a tunnel underneath the oven and that tunnel area was filled with small metal pieces.

    (12/2022) The consumer called a local service company, (Chucks Appliances), and a rep. named [REDACTED], came over and examined the oven. He removed the same parts and saw the same pieces. He told the consumer that the oven’s ignition did not work and those metal pieces may be a factor or the cause of the issue. [REDACTED] asked for a magnet and when the consumer gave him one, the pieces inside the oven tunnel were found to be magnetic. [REDACTED] also said that it was unknown if those metal pieces, which seemed to break off a metal plate in that area of the oven, may have gotten in the consumer’s food, when cooking.

    A few days later, the consumer called the dealer and reported the problem to their rep. (name unavailable). The rep. told her the manufacturer would not do anything because the oven was out of warranty. Worse , it shattered into shards and large pieces and we have no safe way to dispose of the glass and obviously can’t use the oven. I’m not sure why glass windows are even really needed in most kitchen ovens when few of us are cooking delicacies that require constant sight. That said, this was very scary and unsafe.

    Frigidaire slide-in gas range, model number:FGGH3047VFB, serial number: VF03796564.We purchased this model in September 2020 from an authorized Frigidaire vendor. For two years, the appliance worked fine. We used the oven’s self-cleaning feature two times during that period. the second time we used that feature after Thanksgiving 2022, the self-cleaning feature issued two error codes ( F027, F022) which we subsequently learned affected the pc control board and another board. We cancelled the self-clean feature and attempted to open the oven door after an hour had elapsed. The locking feature on the door did not disengage and after several attempts at resetting the oven by disconnecting the electricity, the oven door remained locked. We called customer service and were informed that the warranty had expired (we knew this but didn’t expect the appliance to fail after two years operation and very infrequent use of the self-cleaning feature). Through research we found that technicians and vendors advised not to use self-cleaning features on ovens of many manufacturers because the electronic components could not withstand the intense heat generated from the self-clean cycle. Because this is a gas stove and the intense heat generated during the self-clean cycle, this stove presents a serious safety hazard to unsuspecting consumers who may, in good faith, purchase this model appliance not realizing the dangers in operating defective devices. We would think that given this unit is only two years old Frigidaire would want to stand behind its product and replace it. Instead, we had an authorized service technician come out, diagnosed the problem as the two electronic boards were not communicating with each other, and advised they had to be replaced. Our service call cost and that of the boards totaled $585.00. We paid $1,200.00 for the appliance which now retails for $1,024.00. The boards arrived, the technician installed them and the thermo fuse, plugged in the electricity and the oven controls did not work. In consultation with Frigidaire who then advised that the wiring harness should be replaced, we went along with the “black box” practice of replacing the next item on the troubleshooting list. We were then told that the harness which was to have been delivered before the 12/22 appointment would not be delivered in time for the appointment to be kept. Now we are facing the reality of not having a functional range for the holidays. We do have a cooktop but one cannot bake on the stove top. In sum, such appliances should not be equipped with a self-clean feature especially since the designs now incorporate electronic components and software to regulate how they perform. That intense heat is deployed beyond the capacity of the electronics to survive and endangering the homeowner is irresponsible. That these appliances are still being configured with this kind of feature is bordering on the criminal given that the incident reports date back more than 10 years.

    Frigidaire oven was not correctly assembled. A sheet metal screw was driven through a wire bundle. The wiring was part of the 120VAC circuit for the oven igniter. The screw tore the insulation on the wire. This caused the 120VAC to short into the stoves metal chassis. The short circuit resulted in my receiving an electrical shock. The oven does not work when turned on. The igniter will glow due to the short allowing that part of the electrical circuit to function but not the gas valve. If the short circuit had occurred in the other half of the circuit it may have caused the gas valve to receive power without the ignitor running which would have filled my home with natural gas.

    We purchased a Frigidaire gas stove in 2019 from Home Depot. After a few months we noticed the sensitivity of the knobs. If you lean ever so lightly against them to reach something in the overhead microwave or cabinet, the knobs move and the gas turns on. Twice the gas was on for hours and my children woke up with headaches from the smell. We purchased baby shields to hold the knobs in place. We called Frigidaire and made a complaint and requested a technician come out and look at the range. The technician said there was nothing he could due and stated he would let Frigidaire know the product was not safe. We never heard or had any follow up from Frigidaire. We continued to use the stove but have to have the baby shields in place at all times. In the last month, not only did the gas turn on, the flame did too when I reached for something overhead. This was with the baby shields in place. I called Frigidaire again this week to see if they had any recalls on the range. They provided me with this website. I would have notified you earlier, if I had known. I just purchased another range because this one makes me nervous. I am not even comfortable selling on [REDACTED] or donating. I did read reviews online that other people are experiencing this problem.

    (05/2022) The burners on the gas range turn on very easily. I began smelling gas fumes in my kitchen shortly after purchasing the range. It was strange because I wouldn’t smell gas all of the time. After a couple of weeks, I walked by the range and noticed on of the burners knobs was on slightly and gas was escaping. I had smelled gas as I walked by. The burner was on just enough to allow gas to escape.

    A few days later, I was reaching over the range to put something in the cabinet when my stomach bumped the burner knob and turned it on. This time the ignition lighter clicked, so I knew that the gas was on. The flame did not light. The burners knobs turn on several times.

    I want a recall done on this kitchen range to protect other people. Leaking gas can cause an explosion or someone can be overcome by the leaking gas fumes. I want my range to be modified so that it is safe. I believe that this is a design flaw.

    Factory warranty came out on 7/25/2022 to put new valves on the range but didn’t install them because they said that they were exactly like the ones already on the range.

    I removed the knobs and put them back on with child guard covers.

    I bought a Frigidaire Gallery gas range about nine years ago when I built my house. Just recently, I was vacuuming around the range and must have bumped the burner knob with my body without realizing it. This pushed the knob in and turned it slightly, which is a normal function for the knob, allowing unburned gas to escape into my house. I left my house for several hours, and when I returned and discovered the smell of gas in the house, I opened all the doors and aired the house out. Had it been night time, I might have gone to sleep and been asphyxiated and then my house blown up when some electrical device turned on.

    The oven has a serious safety design flaw because it allows the consumer to push and turn the knob quite a distance before the electrical burner ignition sparks to ignite the gas. If the knob is not turned far enough, it is left in a position to leak unburned gas into the house. My [REDACTED] gas cooktop elsewhere in my house sparks and continues to spark as soon as you push in the knob.

    This range should be recalled or the manufacturer should provide a fix before someone blows up their house and kills themself.

    We purchased a new frigidaire gas oven 3 years ago. From the start we noticed that the burner control dials were sensitive to be moved by the slightest pressure. Also that the two outermost controls on each side were unshielded by the oven door and were easily accidentally turned on by brushing up against them with a part of your body or by an object. Often these accidents did not result in any notable click from the igniter or a sparking of the burner as the dial spun past that range. This early morning (2:00 A.M.) as I walked through the kitchen, on my way to go to bed upstairs, I or an object I was carrying brushed up against a knob and turned on the gas. At 9:00 A.M. we discovered that the middle floor of our home was filled with gas. We quickly opened doors, windows, turned on exhaust fans and of course turned off the burner on the stove. Fortunately no one was sleeping on that floor and the door to the lower level, where the utility room and burning pilot lights were located, was closed. Otherwise we could have been killed in a major explosion.

    This evening, we discovered that our Frigidare gas range had been filling our house with natural gas for several hours after we bumped one of the knobs. This is not the first time this has happened with this stove - sometimes, the knobs can be turned from “off” to “on” with almost no effort, and through incidental contact.

    Usually, the knobs *do* lock when being turned to “off”. But the lock seems to fail periodically, leading to situations where the gas gets turned on accidentally, and our house gets filled with natural gas.

    The product, in the report: This is a standard Frigidaire (Electrolux) Gas slide-in Range Model VF04372312

    My Frigidaire gas range control panel faults, cycling between ---, --6, -66 and 666 while beeping. The range cannot be controlled once this cycling begins. This out of control gas range happens about every other oven cycle. Frigidaire has replaced the range control board, but the fault condition continues to occur. No injuries have occurred, but a gas appliance than cannot be controlled by the user is inherently unsafe. I have video showing this fault and lack of control.

    I purchased a Frigidaire gas stove that was delivered Friday. Today is Tuesday and I went to preheat the oven to heat some chicken wings. When it was preheated to 400 degrees, I put 2 pans of wings in the oven to heat. I set a timer for 12 minutes and walked away. Within about 4-5 minutes we heard a loud “boom” and saw that the oven door had shattered. We did not have injuries but I have 2 children at home that could have been injured had they been the ones using the stove.

    Caller stated that while the oven was placed on self-clean mode the unit started emanating smoke that the smoke alarms went off. The unit was completely burnt. The fire dept was contacted, they came out the fire was contained and the unit was removed and placed outside for bulk trash. He stated that other appliances and cabinets within the vicinity of the range were damaged. The damages are still being accessed. There was a fire report completed by the fire department.

    Caller stated that the manufacturer was contacted and he was advised that the unit was no longer under warranty nor has been recalled. He was able to report the incident to the company. Caller feels that this oven is a fire hazard and should be recalled.

    I accidentally bumped into one of the knobs on the gas stove, and it turned the gas on but didn’t make any noise or light the burner and the house filled with gas which I could not smell due to my being acclimated to it as it was happening. This is the 2nd time this has happened and if my wife hadn’t gotten off work early, I feel I may have passed out or died.

    Product information: Frigidaire 36’’ Gas Cooktop User:[REDACTED] Statement: On 4/26/2021 in the morning, the stovetop burners were on while I made breakfast. Unfortunately, the burner control knobs broke for the third time. Previously, the knobs broke before the gas was on. However, since they broke this time while the gas was on I viewed the faulty knobs as dangerous. After working to turn off the gas without the knobs I was successful, however I became aware of how dangerous the situation would be if this happened later at night or to someone less aware.

    The gas control knobs on the front of the Frigidaire Gallery series oven/range are easily able to be bumped and start gas flowing. This has happened numerous times in our home causing the smell of gas. This occurs when simply walking past or when cleaning the cook top. Fortunately we notice the smell of gas, this can pose an issue if the knobs are bumped and we leave the home. It would cause gas to build up in the home and possibly cause an explosion.

    We have kitchenaid professional series gas stove/oven. This past Sunday, my husband preheated the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. After a few minutes, there was smoke coming out. We assumed there must have been a spill when the oven was last used, and it would burn off. After about 15 minutes, the smoke was becoming overwhelming even with a commercial vent hood above the stove. We could conclude that the interior of the oven was completely full of smoke to the point of zero visibility through the window. Eventually, my husband opened the built in storage drawer underneath and found that there were contents actively engulfed in flames. After putting out the fire with the extending hose from the kitchen sink and removing the drawer to the back yard, the contents were dumped in a bucket full of water. The fire department determined that a pizza peel under the stove in the drawer had ignited due to oven malfunction. The fire department cited the oven as the source of the fire.

    When did this happen?

    -- March 19, 2021 at approximately 6pm PDT.

    What happened that made you want to report?

    -- I had a roast cooking in the oven. I had to run an errand. When I returned home and unlocking and opening my apartment door, I instantly smelled gas. Not strong, yet definitely noticeable and more so towards the kitchen. I left the front door open. I then went directly to the gas stove. I verified that, even though the electronic display indicated that the oven temperature was still set to 350 degrees, there was virtually no heat emanating from the oven’s vent on the top of the stove. I pressed the oven’s Clear/Off button. I then opened several windows throughout my apartment, starting with the kitchen window, in order to ventilate my apartment. It was a somewhat breezy day and it didn’t take long for the smell of gas to go away. I then went back to the oven. I unplugged it’s power cord for 60 seconds. I then plugged the power cord back in.

    A potentially related incident occured the day before. My apartment building is undergoing reovations in order to make the building more resistant to earthquakes. The construction people tripped the power breaker for the outlets in the laundry room. They had no idea which breaker they tripped, so they flipped all breakers at least twice and within 5 seconds for each breaker for all units within the apartment building. I was home when this occurred. I had to reset the clocks on my oven and on my microwave. One of the construction workers knocked on my door. I had to show him which circuit breakers were separately for the building itself, and not for any of the apartment units. I then had to point out the specific tripped breaker for the laundry room, and explain that in order to reset it, you have to flip it entirely off and then flip it back on.

    I specifically mention the above paragraph since I hypothesise that the oven’s electronics, due to the two rapid on-off flips of my apartment’s circuit breaker, may have scrambled the oven’s electronics. I specifically ask that the CPSC follow up with the consumer who reported their incident which is related to the following recall number 12-737:

    Here is an update for my report: I subsequently suspected that the igniter for the oven was going bad since the oven would no longer heat up. I removed the igniter and measured its resistance. The resistance was 377 Ohms. The igniter’s part number is 316489408. I replaced the igniter with the current OEM replacement igniter for the old igniter part number. The new igniter’s part number is 5304509706. I measured teh resistance of the new igniter before installing it. The resistance of the new igniter is 108 Ohms. Clearly the old igniter was bad, yet enough current flowed through it to the bimetal valve which allowed gas to flow into the burner. The igniter was not hot enough to ignite the gas. This is why I smelled gas when I entered my home after returning from an errand. Frigidaire and other gas oven manufacturers should be required to add a current detection circuit for the igniter which would prevent the igniter from remaining on if the detected current is too low in order to allow the igniter to become hot enough to ignite the gas, yet there might be enough current flowing through the igniter to improperly allow the bimetal gas valve to open. An alternative circuit would be for the oven to measure the resistance of the igniter circuit when the oven not in use and when the oven has cooled off to less than 120 degrees. If the resistance is higher than 250 Ohms, the oven should display a service code on its temperature display. IF the resistance is higher than 300 Ohms, then the oven should lock out all use of the oven. Obviously measured current and resistance values will vary depending on the make and model of gas oven. The above is merely an example for what I think would be appropriate for my Frigidaire gas oven or other gas ovens which use this igniter or very similar igniters.

    gas range turns on with the slightest touch on the knob, for example just walking too close to the knob. I have found the gas on (no flame) many times. One time, the carbon monoxide alarm went off, another time, I was awaken by [REDACTED] at the door, and was told, they smelled gas. It was the stove burner on, no flame. Last time it happened a few days ago. Almost have to leave a letter telling my kids, I did not commit suicide by gas. The burner is on, even if I have not used it that day. very strange.
