The product, in the report: New FitBit Surge activity tracker black worn on right wrist.
I have worn a watch on my right wrist with no problem most of my life. I recently purchased a FitBit Surge hearing that FitBit had fixed the rash problems with the previous model. They have not. I got a severe rash under the FitBit Surge after wearing it as directed in place of the watch. I have pictures of the rash if you need them. FitBit says it is my fault for wearing it too much or not keeping the skin clean, but this is not the case. Consumers are at risk and this product should be recalled.

The product, in the report: Fitbit Charge, size small, black.
After wearing the Fitbit Charge Activity Tracker on my wrist for 4 days, I noticed some bumps on my skin beneath my wrist. I stopped wearing the tracker at night but by day 7, the number of red bumps has increased.
I have taken care to keep the tracker dry, to clean it after working out, and to wear the tracker loosely, as prescribed by Fitbit.

The product, in the report: Fitbit Surge, Fitness Super Watch in Black
I recently purchased the new Fitbit Surge activity watch wristband. After wearing my product as per the manufacturer’s website “Our products are meant to be worn all day and night” I began to get a rash on my skin, in particular my wrist. So I switched wrists, and my other wrist began to get a rash. The company tries to defend themselves by saying to wash the device and your skin (hygiene issue?), and to give your wrist a break from wearing the device. Going completely against their quote above. Basically as a consumer it’s safe for me to assume, that their advice is to wear their product until a rash appears, unless of course you are unhygienic, switch wrists until a rash appears there...rinse and repeat. This is quite appalling to me and the fact that they won’t take ownership of this issue is even more disturbing. Especially after claiming they were becoming a “Rash Free” company after their first rash incident, epidemic.

The product, in the report: The Fitbit Surge is a fitness band that is intended to be worn 24/7. It provides information on activity levels and heart rate during the day, counts steps, and tracks sleep (including periods of restlessness and awakening during the night).
I have been wearing a Fitbit Surge for several weeks. The band on the Fitbit Surge causes a rash on my wrist ... primarily, on the inner side of the wrist on witch the band is worn. The product is designed (in fact, intended) to be worn 24 hours a day (if you don’t, how can it accurately count all of your activity and track your sleep?). However, due to the rash, I am unable to wear it continuously.

The product, in the report: lime green fitbit flex
I bought the fitbit flex in lime green. After wearing it for a few days I noticed an itchy irritation under the fitbit. It started to have a burning feeling and developed small blisters. I wrote fitbit and they responded with some suggestions for wearing. Although I am extremely clean and don’t sweat often. I listened to their suggestions and tried on my other wrist. This time I wore it really loose. Within 8-10 hours I had a bright red irritated rash that was in the complete shape of the fitbit. I took it off immediately and contacted them again. They offered to fully refund if I sent it back, which I did. A few days later I contacted them yet again with my concern that the rash was not going away and still driving me crazy with how itchy it was. I also sent pictures to show them that it basically had not gotten better in the week while it was off. I sent an email to them now 3 times regarding this and have gotten no response at all.

The product, in the report: Continued heart rate monitor, activity and work out, sleep quality, syncs wirelessly and caller ID
My Fitbit charge HR makes a rash on my arm. I have this particular Fitbit because I have a fast heart rate and it is very accurate with that information. I do not wear it 24 hours a day. I take it off for several hours a day. I am worried as to what materials are in my Fitbit to cause a rash. I keep it clean and do not get it wet. I do not do anything to sweat so that is not a problem. I have a radh about an inch square. Almost looks like a burn. This has happened [REDACTED] about mid February, 2015.

The product, in the report: HR fit bit
My spouse and I got fit bit HR wrist bands for Valentine’s Day 2015. I wore mine first day and my wrist got a big red mark and made my arm hurt so bad. I just figured it was just a reaction so I took it off for a day, still a red mark on my arm and very tender and sore. I took a break for a week put it back on and I can not wear it it leaves a big raised red welt on my arm and it almost feels bruised. So as of February 14th I have only used it a handful of times due to my arm hurts so bad. I purchased them each for @ $150

The product, in the report: Black FitBit Flex with two wristbands included
I received the FitBit Flex for a gift and my wrist is very irritated every time I wear it. I read reports of blistering with the Force, but my reaction is not the severe...more of a red, itchy irritation. I no longer have the original packaging, but I do have all of the components. I would like to return the product.

The product, in the report: FitBit Flex
I developed a allergic reaction in the form of a sore, blistering rash, after wearing the Fitbit Flex for around 6 months. I switched wrists and developed the same rash on the other wrist after a couple weeks. I went back to the first wrist (after cleaning the band) and the rash reappeared within a day. I have always washed and dried the wristband daily and wear it loosely around my wrist. I emailed a complaint to them and their response is as follows:
“We appreciate you are letting us know that you have tried switched wrists. Please follow our care and safety instructions by keeping the band clean, keeping it dry, and giving your wrist a break. You can find our complete, dermatologist-reviewed instructions at https://www.fitbit.com/productcare. We also recommend that you remove the device if you start to experience skin irritation on your wrist. If symptoms persist longer than 2-3 days after removing the device, contact your physician.”
I feel that my rash is not a reaction to an unclean or wet band, but is an allergic reaction to some material in the band. It is hard to “give your wrist a break” from a device that is intended to be worn 24/7.

The product, in the report: Fitbit Flex tracker band
Purchased a Fitbit years ago when they were first released. I broke out with a real bad rash on my wrist after wearing the product for about a month. I stopped wearing it, and my husband wore it and had no reaction. Last month I found a band made by a different company and wore it for a month with no reaction. The only reason I stopped was because the design on the band was wearing off, which I the maker is sending me a new band. But I thought its been years and Fitbit has probably addressed the issue in their bands so I purchased a pack of 3 small colored Fitbit brand bands. Within 10 hours of wearing the band not tight and not to sleep in or shower in, the rash was back and more severe this time than it was last night. Again I contacted Fitbit just like I did years ago and they tried to say that their band is made just like any of the other sports bands out in market and they sent me to the link about cleaning. Insane that they are able to make these bands, when there is an issue like this. I use other sports bands and have had no problems. Never again will I buy Fitbit bands, but since I put out the money for the tracker I will find alternative solutions.

The product, in the report: Fitbit Surge fitness band. This device tracks fitness activity, heart rate, sleep, etc.
I have owned my Fitbit Surge for a few weeks not and have noticed a painful irritation on my wrist. The irritation seems to be due to where the band rests on my skin. The first sign was dry skin that was peeling off. Once the skin had peeled off the irritation got worse. This did not happen with my Fitbit Flex and doesn’t happen if I wear a watch on my wrist. Something needs to be done to get this device recalled. I spent $250 for something that is irritating my skin.

The product, in the report: Fitbit flex, black wristband.
I purchased a Fitbit flex the last week of December 2014. I wore it for about a month, day time only, alternating wrists. I now have a pretty bad rash and what appear to be skin burns on both wrists. I stopped wearing the flex about 3 weeks ago, but still have the burns and rash. I wish I was aware of the force recall and I do not remember seeing a warning about skin irritation for the flex.

The product, in the report: It is a fitbit Charge HR. The color is black, and it is a size large. Company is aware of the rashes yet refuses to do anything about it!
The Fitbit Charge HR is giving me a severe rash which looks like a burn blister and is painful. I followed their instructions for wearing it, and they do not help. I have had a battery of allergy tests in the past, and unless the fitbit is made out of grass, I am not allergic to it. Moreover, I have previously worn latex/plastic watches in the past and experienced no problems. I am severely troubled by fitbit’s continued ignorance of this problem.

Purchased a Fitbit Charge HR for my birthday on 2/10/15. I charged it and wore it 2/11 - 2/13/15. While working on 2/13 I noticed an ache in my wrist. I sent the company an email 2/14/15 at 12:08am as soon as I was home from work. I have not had pain like this in the past. The red mark has faded but the pain has not.

The product, in the report: Fitbit Flex
Hello, I have been wearing a Fitbit Flex for almost a full year now (it will be a year sometime in the end of March). I wore it daily as I worked out and did other normal daily activities. I rinsed it out with water on a somewhat frequent basis. Starting sometime in December of 2014 I started experiencing a rash where the tracker sat on my skin. I didn’t think much of it until the rash kept getting worse. I think I waited about a month before I actually started to notice it wasn’t getting better. I did some research and was shocked to find out other people had been experiencing rashes with other versions of Fitbit trackers. I reached out to the company and quit wearing the device right away. I stopped wearing the tracker for about a week until I heard back from the company. My rash got a little bit better but it did not clear up even after applying cortisone cream daily. All the company told me to do was to read up on their care and cleaning instructions. I was kind of disgusted but thought maybe it was the result of improper cleaning. However, even after following these care instructions, I am still experiencing this rash that hasn’t gone away. Some days it bothers me and some days it doesn’t.

The product, in the report: Fitbit Charge
I received a Fitbit Charge in December. When I wear it for more than 10 hours, I develop a rash on the underside of my wrist. This device is designed to be worn 24/7 except while bathing, in order to use the sleep tracker function. I cannot wear it anywhere close to that length of time and sometimes need to leave it off for a day or more to allow the rash to clear.

The product, in the report: Fitbit Flex wireless wristband, black.
I got a fitbit flex for Christmas. Since wearing it, the band or clasp has caused skin irritation, itching. redness and a rash on my left hand and itching on my right hand. The band was kept dry, clean, never worn in the shower, and fastened appropriately. There was no consumer warning on the packaging. It should be recalled. Consumers should not be made to suffer this discomfort. Please investigate. I can no longer use the product. I notified the company and they responded by telling me to stop using the product and go to a dermatologist. I consider the response inadequate and incomplete. Consumers need to be protected from this product.

I purchased a Fitbit Flex for my Mother for Christmas. Within weeks she began getting a rash along her arm where the band and the Fitbit device touched her skin. I called Fitbit customer service and they were not helpful indicating that since I didn’t buy it from them I would have to return it to the store where I purchased the item. The customer service person was not helpful, not friendly, and didn’t appear to care at all. When I went to Best Buy to return it (only 5 weeks later) I had to fight with a Manager to get reimbursed. All I could get was store credit.
I now understand that rashes are a recurring problem with the Fitbit Flex product.

The product, in the report: Fitbit Flex
I have owned a Fitbit Flex since last summer. I have had no problems with it until recently. I have been burned twice now by the device. Approximately 1 month ago and this week. The first time the area was not as bad. The skin was red, raised and there were blistered areas. This skin burn occurred under the battery area. Recently the area has again become injured but worse. I don’t wear my band tight, I don’t wear it in the shower and I’m not allergic to nickel. I searched this problem on the internet and those were the things that were stated as the alleged problems. My concern is that this is similar to the Fitbit Force issues that I read about. Why have they not fixed this issue with their products?

The product, in the report: Fitbit Force wireless activity band.
I have been using the Fitbit Force daily since the first week of December 2013, when I asked a friend to get it for me in [REDACTED] from the United States. I heard about the recall in the middle of 2014, but did not bother as I was satisfied with the product and happy using it and trying to meet my daily targets. Suddenly, however, about 15 days back I started developing a reddish allergic mark on the inside of my right wrist (where I normally wear the Fitbit Force). There would be considerable irritation in and around the reddish area which aggravated into discharge of a thin liquid and severe ittiching. I immediately discontinued using the force on that wrist, and the allergy was better with the application of an antiseptic ointment. I reported this to Fitbit who advised me to return the product and either claim a refund of US$ 140/- or opt to take the “Charge” device in lieu. I opted for the “Charge’ but could not register on the Fitbit Support site as the entries required that I be a resident of the USA...which I am not. Fitbit then advised me to approach you guys for solving my problem. So, here I am. [REDACTED]

I purchased the Fitbit Flex in 06/14. By 08/14, I had problems with the battery charging, emailed them as there is no personal customer service. I was told to tape and jiggle the battery to get it to charge. I did this until 10/14 when it just wouldn’t charge. And as the original band wore out, I reordered a new battery and three bands. The new battery still has to be taped and jiggled. However, my compliant is the bands... they caused a severe rash and injury to my wrist. I even changed wrists and it started on the other side. I changed bands and it continued cause rash and itching. I, of course , no longer wear it. I saw that the Fitbit Force had been recalled for allergic reactions and believe so too should the Flex. Or at least the replacement bands.

I purchased a Fitbit Flex in June, 2014, and have been using it daily. In October, I started getting redness, swelling, & itching on my left wrist under my Flex wristband. It was mild/annoying at first, but kept increasing in intensity. I switched to my other wrist and get the same allergic reactions. I follow the Fitbit instructions for care of the wristband. I do not use lotions, etc. on my wrists. I can no longer use my Flex (for which I paid $100) as designed. Upon investigating, I have discovered that this seems to be not atypical with the Flex, and that Fitbit has previously recalled it’s Force wristband for similar reasons.

I bought a Fitbit One in early 2013 and immediately began wearing it on my bra in the same spot day and night. I continued wearing all day daily and most nights for a little over a year. One morning I found a lump in my breast (same breast and exact same spot where I always wear my fitbit). I immediately sought medical evaluation and found out 3 days later that the lump was a cancerous tumor. The biopsy came back with a diagnosis of early invasive ductal cell carcinoma breast cancer. I have no history of breast cancer in my family and was extremely healthy and physically fit at the time of diagnosis. I don’t know if my tumor development could have been related to the Fitbit, but I think because of the exact location and timing of the tumor development as it related to my use of the Fitbit, it needs to be reported.

First aid Made May 12, 2014, sent to the company May 20, 2014, published by CPSC Jun 12, 2014
The product, in the report: I ordered a new case/clip in April 8, 2014 for my Fitbit One. My previous black holder/clip lasted a couple of years but it was time for a new one. I ordered the burgundy colored one this time. The first time I wore it, clipped to the waistband of my pants, that evening when I took it off, it had left a very red, almost burned mark on my stomach where it had been in contact with my skin. I was very freaked out and showed my husband (I wish I had taken a picture because it was the exact size/shape of the fitbit one). It took about 3 or 4 days to fully disappear. I thought maybe it had been due to the red dye in the color I had ordered. We were gone on vacation for 2 weeks after that and I made sure never to have my fitbit touching my skin. This had never been a concern with my previous fitbit one clip. Anyway, when I got home from vacation, a friend of mine randomly mentioned that Fitbit Forces had been recalled for this same reaction. I had not heard anything about this! Even though mine isn’t a Force, it’s a One, I figured it’s the same company and probably same plastic/metal/glue or whatever. I contacted Fitbit via email to let them know, and the only thing they said back to me was that they had conducted a voluntary recall of their Fitbit Force. It was a disappointing short response with no reference or care to my issue that I was writing to them about. So, I just wanted this to be reported to the CPSC. In my opinion, the problem with Fitbit affects more than just the Fitbit Force. My own personal experience shows that my new Fitbit One clip also has faulty plastic or glue or dye. Thank you for your time, [REDACTED]
I ordered a new case/clip in April 8, 2014 (order#[REDACTED]) for my Fitbit One. In my opinion, the problem with Fitbit affects more than just the Fitbit Force. My own personal experience shows that my new Fitbit One clip also has faulty plastic or glue or dye. Sadly, I do not wear it anymore because I feel something is wrong with it!
Please keep me updated to any other reports on this issue and for further instruction.
Thank you for your time,

My wife and i both received FitBit Flex units this past Christmas. (approx. 6 moths ago) I started noticing that my wife’s unit was not charging consistently. I would have to jiggle the unit around to get a good contact. I reached out to fitbit and the response i got was that because i was able to charge that i should continue to use. I was not happy with response but what can i do. Well, this week it look like the unit’s battery exploded or something. This was very concerns because you can see the acid from the battery. Both my wife use the fitbit in the same exact manner and my unit is perfectly fine, but im concern about this problem.

I wore the fitbit force without problems from January to mid April. Then started developing a rash under the metal part of the watch. The rash continued to get worse even after I kept it completely covered with bandages. I haven’t worn the force in about a week and still have a blistered area on my left wrist that is approximately 1 inch in diameter.

The product, in the report: FitBit Force
I received a rash from the FitBit Force. I began wearing the device on my left wrist January 20, 2014. I wore it around the clock, except while in the shower. I wore it for around 9 weeks without any problems. When I first started to see something, it was only a mild, small, pink, bumpiness on my wrist. It began very slowly and did not bother me at first. After a few days it got a little worse. I moved the FitBit to my right wrist, where I developed a rash after just one day of wearing it. After that I stopped wearing it altogether. I Googled it and first learned of the problems and the recall. A few days later FitBit emailed about the recall, which I sent in for. After removing the FitBit (permanently) on March 25, the rash worsened significantly. I applied otc [REDACTED] cream for a week to no affect. I have no history of any nickel allergy, or any other kind of bad reaction to jewelry or anything. After a few days, it was at its worst -- the skin became cracked and open, and eventually scabby. (I do have a few photos) Today, a month later, what seem like scars are still visible on both wrists, though the left is worse than the right.

Seen by a doctor or nurse Made Apr 24, 2014, sent to the company May 2, 2014, published by CPSC May 16, 2014
The product, in the report: Fitbit Force is an activity tracker wrist band. It is worn like a watch and tracks daily steps, active minutes, and sleep.
I ordered the Fitbit Force in January 2014, and received it in the first week of February. My friend had told me about users experiencing rashes, but I didn’t think it was very wide spread at that point. I wore it every day (except while showering) and also overnight. I really liked it and loved the silent alarm feature! Unfortunately, almost exactly 1 month later (March 8th), I noticed a red patch of skin on my wrist under the band about the same width as the band itself. The location was not exactly under the battery charger, but a little to the side of it closer to the LCD screen area. I stopped wearing it that day.
That day I googled the Fitbit rashes, and found out about the recall and that many people were affected. I returned my Force and received the refund about 5 weeks later.
The rash or burn stayed the same size the entire time, roughly the size of 2 dimes side by side. It remained bright red for rougly 1 month, was never bumpy, itchy, or painful, so in my opinion, didn’t appear to be contact dermatitis. I finally went to the doctor on April 7th, and she agreed with me that it didn’t look like contact dermatitis, but she wasn’t sure what it really was. So, I decided to try prescription steriod cream (Fluocinonide .05% ointment). I’ve been using this cream twice a day for about 2 weeks now, and while the area does look slightly lighter, it’s still there, and doesn’t really look like the cream has helped. (I’m guessing just the fact that it’s now been almost 2 months now has something to do with the spot slightly fading).
I’m really concerned that this is a bigger problem than Fitbit is leading on to be. Is it really just an allergic reaction, or can I wake up a year from now and find out that I have skin cancer? I’ve asked the Fitbit support team if they have any new updates, and am only being told that it’s contact dermatitis from either the nickel or adhesives from the band. I’d like to know (from a real doctor) about what exactly this is and if there can be any long term danger from this product.

I recieved this rash on my arm due to the wearable tracking device Fitbit FORCE.
The website claims that it is a “contact dermititis rash”. But I am not allergic to any of the materials the product has claimed to be made out of on their site.
I have reason to believe that this is something of the Radio Frequency burn nature or something more serious than a quick allergy.
This rash is not going away nor is it getting better with time.

The product, in the report: Fitbit Force Activity Tracker wristband
Received the Fitbit Force on December 26, 2013 as a gift and wore it almost 24/7 except for in the shower.
Had absolutely no sensitivity to it. Saw reports of rashes but based on the responses and claims that it was an allergic reaction experienced by few people I assumed I was in the clear.
On 4/1/2014 a rash developed where I have worn the wristband. I immediately took it off and the rash has continued to grow despite removing the band.
I would just like this incident noted with the others (I know there is an active recall) as I feel like Fitbit is underestimating the incident rate, where they have reported 1.7% of users. My reaction took longer to develop than most, and I likely started using it when a bunch of people did. I think the longer people use it, eventually they may suffer the same result.

The product, in the report: Fitbit Force- Black purchased January 2014 from Fitbit
In January 2014 I purchased a Fitbit Force online directly from Fitbit as a birthday gift for myself. After a couple weeks of wearing it I developed a spot which I initially thought was an insect bite.I discontinued wearing the product. Over a couple days it developed into a blister and continued to get worse. I had severe burning that I noticed in waves and mainly at night. It would also have waves of itching. The location of the large blister was just under the port where you would charge the unit. I went to Cox Urgent Care in Branson Missouri and started a topical medication. The blisters persisted for more than 3 weeks. I am now left with a nasty scar on my wrist and worry about what might have caused this. I did return the product back to fitbit for a refund. I have several pictures as the blisters developed should you need them. I have recently moved from Branson Missouri to Olathe Kansas. Please feel free to contact me for pictures or questions. Thank you, [REDACTED]
I did not know about the safety concern until I contacted fitbit right before I had treatment. I have estimated the date below. Please note my Olathe Kansas address in this report.

The product, in the report: Fit Bit Force Activity Tracker - worn on the wrist.
I wore the Fit Bit Force for 5 weeks and suddenly developed a red rash on my wrist near the charging port. The rash itched and the area of the rash tingled. I immediately removed the Fit Bit from my left wrist and moved it to my right wrist. Within 2-3 days, a similar rash developed on my right wrist. I tried [REDACTED] and Cortisone cream for 4-5 days and applied large [bandages] over the rash. With the large [bandage] providing a confident barrier between the Fit Bit and my skin, for a few days I continued to wear the Fit Bit. However, I was dismayed to see that the rash persisted and got worse and there were a few spots that were oozing slightly. At this point, I stopped wearing the Fit Bit completely. After 2 weeks of the rash appearing and without improvement due to stopping use or home treatments, I went to the doctor who prescribed antibiotics and steroids. In a few days of Rx product use, the deep red color was gone. The rash continues to improve with treatment.

I received a FitBit Force for Christmas. I started wearing it in late December, and in late January/early February, I started getting an itchy rash under my FitBit. I thought it was irritation caused by wearing it too loosely, so I tightened it, but the problem continued regardless of what setting I used. Nothing helped. I also cleaned it with alcohol because my skin was flaking off, and started taking if off at night.
I have many environmental allergies and sensitive skin, so I returned my Force by mail. I hate to think that with all the allergens I avoid and diligently treat proactively, I was wearing a product 24 hours a day, 7 days a week that was designed to help me live a healthier life but in reality causing me to have an allergic reaction.

Purchased product in mid December 2013 directly from Fitbit Website. Received in early January, wore it for about 5 weeks, noticed a raised bump which turned into blister by end of the day. This first happened on Feb 12, 2014. Blister turned into 6x4cm rash/lesion in about three days. I googled FitBit Force Rash and found that many hundreds or even a few thousand pekoe had experienced this same thing. I contacted FitBit company by email around Feb 20, 2014. They told me to stop wearing it and return it for a refund. I still have it. I carry it in my pocket instead of wearing it. 6 weeks later my arm is still healing.

I received a Fitbit Force for Christmas 2013. I started wearing it on my left arm and got a minor irritation right away. I do commonly experience contact dermatitis from nickel, so this didn’t suprise me.
I switched to my other arm and made the fitting looser so it wouldn’t constantly be in contact with the same area of skin. After about another month, I started to experience another rash. This one was more severe. I decided then to stop wearing it and it is also about the same time that I saw the reports of other users being affected.
I am accustomed to getting rashes from cheap jewelry, but usually if something is labeled as “surgical-grade stainless steel” it doesn’t affect me. Also, this rash was a bit different in appearance than what i usually get, and also took much longer to go away. For these reasons I think that it is not the metal but must be a component of the adhesives or battery port that is causing the rashes.

My fitbit force caused a major rash that looks more like a battery acid burn. When I contacted fitbit their initial response was that there were “small”amounts of consumers complaining about this product, they did not offer me a refund until after they sent me a laundry list of questions. They also suggested that it may have been caused by wearing it for long amounts of time and advised me to switch wrists, I now have 2 burn marks both on my left and right wrists that have not gone away for over 2 months. Although I was able to return my product to the retail store I purchased it at, the burn marks have not been addressed. I had to use steroid prescription cream to reduce the swelling and they never offered or suggested for me to go to a doctor for help or relief. I have documented emails and pictures of these incidents.

I have been wearing the Fitbit Force for several months (from fitbit.com). I’ve read about the reviews online with the rashes and thought it would not happen to me. Until today. My wrist felt like it was burning while I was working on my computer. I took off the fitbit, and I have a noticeable burn mark, the size of a dime, that was directly underneath where my Fitbit Force was touching my arm. I haven’t had the need to charge my Force for over a week, so I know that’s not the issue. My wrist still feels like it is burning and the skin is beat red and itches.

I wore the fitbit force on my left wrist for approximately 4 weeks when I developed redness on my skin directly under the device. I stopped wearing the fitbit force immediately, with the skin redness progressively worsening to this day (2 weeks later) without ever putting it back on my wrist. The skin redness worsened to a darker red puffy irritation, and for several days now worsened to a dark red cluster of blisters. I am seeking medical attention tomorrow (03/19/2014), as over the counter cortisone ointment has not helped the condition.

I developed a skin rash/burn from wearing Fitbit Force on my wrist. I started wearing Fitbit Force on Feb 5th and the rash developed around March 8th. The rash/burn is itchy and has spread out a bit.
I have absolutely no allergies and have very insensitive skin. In fact, I have never developed any reaction or rash to any materials whatsoever, including nickel.
Fitbit’s reaction to this recall is terrible. They cannot simply blame this on allergies! I am angry that they did not email all their Force users to inform them about this problem.

Purchased Fitbit Force in early December. By Christmas Day, my left wrist was red with raised bumps/blisters & extremely itchy. I scratched the blisters open & they bled. I initially thought that I had developed some type of fungal irritation under the strap because when I ran,my arm would sweat & when at work I wash my hands 100 times a day & water would get under the strap. The rash lasted for weeks because I kept wearing the Force, although not 24/7 like I did before. I didn’t find out about the widespread skin reactions until mid February when my mother saw something on the news about it. I then researched it online & found the forum where everybody else that got the skin reaction had posted. My skin reaction looks just like the others that were posted.

The product, in the report: Fitbit Force fitness/activity tracker
My Fitbit Force, in a small black, was a Christmas gift from my husband, who ordered it directly from the Fitbit website. Since it was on back order, we were surprised to receive it on December 23, 2013. I happily started wearing it right away.
Since I never anticipated any problems, I have no exact dates for the following:
Initially, there were no issues. I wore it 24/7 removing it only to shower daily and to charge it about every five days or so. After a few weeks (sometime in late January), I noticed some discomfort and realized that I was continually pushing the device up or down, on my reddened wrist, to massage the area underneath the band for relief. The redness encircled my wrist with a concentrated redness on the top under the charger pins. I thought perhaps I had gotten an insect bite that was infected.
Each time I took it off, the wrist area was getting more reddened and looking more irritated. My husband suggested that perhaps I was wearing it too tight. I loosened it up and continued wearing it. Each time I removed the device, the irritation was worse . . . progressing to what appeared to be tiny blisters and roughened skin.
I still wasn’t too concerned, as I have never had any allergic reactions to bracelets or watches made of both metal and silicone. I tried some OTC skin rash cream, but that did not help. Then I decided it must be my sweat causing a bacterial buildup, so I started cleaning the band daily with alcohol swabs. That didn’t help either.
I finally reluctantly removed from my wrist (wore it pinned to my clothes for awhile - didn’t want to lose tracking info) hoping that the rash/burn would clear it up and I could start all over again. After about a week, my skin was showing improvement. Disappointed that the Force was most likely the problem, I began searching on 03/09/14 for any other persons having similar issues. I must admit that I was absolutely shocked!
I am very disappointed that I had to find this out on my own. If the company felt a need for a recall, it’s my opinion that all of their customers should have been notified immediately.
I received my Fiitbit return kit on Friday, 03/14/14. I was surprised that the return label was to a biohazard recycle center instead of back to Fitbit for testing. I will mail it on Monday, 03/17/14.

I noticed after two to three months of use that I had developed a rash under my FitBit Force activity tracker. This rash is red, blistered and painful to the touch. I discontinued use and did an internet search and discovered that there was a recall. I have the device registered through their website and never received any sort of notification that they had recalled the device. In fact, the recall occurred before I got a rash so honestly if I had been notified, it could have been avoided.

The product, in the report: Fitbit Force, Black wristband, Small size
I purchased the Fitbit Force on Friday, January 24, 2014, and began wearing it later that evening. I continued to wear the wristband continuously for the next month or so, only taking it off to shower and charge it when needed. On February 24, a friend notified me of the reports of rashes that were developing with some users of the Force. At that time, when I examined my wrist, I did not see anything out of the ordinary. I continued to wear the device as normal. Beginning on February 28, I noticed that the Fitbit Force was not holding a charge as long as it usually had (usually 7-10 days between charges). Around this time, the Force would run out of battery life within 3 days, and the time in-between charges was getting shorter and shorter. I had to charge my Fitbit Force again on March 2, and it was when I took it off on that day that I began to notice small “bumps” under the metal portion of the wristband (specifically, where the charge port was located on the back of the metal). Fearing that this might be the development of “the rash,” I quickly taped the ENTIRE back portion of the wristband, using both packing tape against the entire back surface and then surgical tape to provide some cushion. I continued to wear the Fitbit for the next three days (March 3-5) with these accommodations. By March 5 (when I had to charge the Fitbit Force again), I noticed that the “bumps” had spread considerably to an area about 1-inch across on my arm (or just slightly larger than the width of the band itself). I also noticed a second, smaller area of bumps developing lower on my arm and wrist, closer to where my arm meets my hand (looking back on where the Force was sitting on my arm, I believe that this second area developed because the Fitbit Force would sometimes slide down lower on my arm during the course of the day since it was not snugly fit against my arm). At this point, fearing the worst, I removed the band from my arm, washed it thoroughly, and let it charge. Starting on the 6th, I began to wear the band on my other arm to see if something similar would develop. By this point, I was having to charge my Fitbit Force every other day or so, and when I went to charge it on the 8th, I began to notice a few bumps developing on my other arm as well (still using the tape as a barrier between the band and my arm). At this point, I removed the Force and have not worn it since. I requested a return kit from Fitbit to send the Force back. I can say with 100% certainty that I have no allergies to nicker, rubber, latex, or most other materials that are most likely present in the band. Due to the fact that the “rash” developed DIRECTLY where the charge port as located on the back of the wristband before spreading, I truly believe that the reaction must have something to do with the port itself. As of today (March 15), the “rash” has become more swollen and noticeably raised from my skin. The bumps, which were originally the same color as my skin, have now disappeared and have been replaced by red, swollen, blotchy skin. The rash is much more noticeable now than it was a week ago. I believe that the “rash” looks more like a burn (with shiny, rough-textured skin) than a true rash. I have seen no healing starting to place in the last week...if anything, like I said, the rash has gotten worse. I saw NO reactions whatsoever for the first month that I worse the wristband, which also leads me to believe that it is not some sort of reaction to materials in the wristband.

The product, in the report: Fitbit Force fitness tracker/watch with Bluetooth, small size, black band.
Purchased Fitbit Force fitness tracker on 2/9/2014. Redness near the wrist bone developed on the 30th day of wearing it, along with flu-like symptoms of headache, fatigue and aching. I immediately quit wearing the band. Three days later, the red area has spread with formation of little blisters and I continue to feel unwell.
