The product, in the report: I’ve been using a fitbit that tracks your steps.
I have a fit bit and now have a rash burn in a rectangular design that is right under the band. I asked some friends that have them also if the same thing has happened to them. Several of them said yes and one posted this link where I can send a consumer report in on this. It looks like there was a recall but I never received any information from Fit Bit on that. It is red and hurts and will probably need to go to the doctor today.

The product, in the report: Fitbit flex
I own the Fitbit Flex. I used to wear it all the time and decided to take a break. When I put it back on a week or so later, I started developing a big, red, bumpy and extremely itchy rash around my wrist. I read online that Fitbit had said it may be from sweat, so I decided to clean it with rubbing alcohol. When I put it back on, I was still developing a big rash. It is taking over a week to clear up and I can no longer wear my fitbit. If many people have this same issue, this product should not be sold.

The product, in the report: FitBit Charger HR black band. Monitors heart rate, sleep, calories, activity level and exercise.
The FitBit Charger HR was purchased for me as an anniversary around 8/21/15 and I received it on 8/29/15 and began to wear it on 8/31. After a few weeks of wearing the FitBit Charger HR, I began to notice that my left wrist was itching and I had red bumps under the FitBit. I cleaned it off and let it rest for an hour and also put it on the other wrist. In the morning I would switch it back to the left wrist where it would start to itch. The red bumps looked like a rash and eventually I put some cetaphil was soap on it to stop the irritation. It did not completely stop, so I asked my doctor at a routine visit what I could use for the itching and she recommended hydrocortisone. My skin was peeling on my left wrist for a few weeks and then it finally healed up

The product, in the report: Fitbit Charge HR Fitness Tracker
I have the purple Fitbit Charge HR in size medium. The band causes a horrible rash. When I looked online, I found others with the same problem and learned that there was a lawsuit against Fitbit for this. You were supposed to have fixed this issue. It also said there was a recall, but I was never notified. I want to know how to fix this issue. If the issue cannot fixed, I would like to know why it remains on the market. I have had other trackers and have never experienced a rash. I’m also a senior in age and am not prone to rashes or allergies in general. The problem is the rash is causing scarring on my wrists. I no longer wear it to bed (although the sleep tracking was one of the important features for me), and I no longer wear it during the day. I only wear it when I purposely exercise. I even tried putting it over clothing. It is still harming my wrist. Fitbit recommends discontinuing use if a rash arises. Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of the band in the first place? This is a serious problem and it is happening to thousands of people. Something needs to be done to fix this or take it off the market. The rash started shortly after purchase and has continued for the past two months. I have stopped wearing the device and I have sent an email to FitBit Customer Service. I have not heard back yet.

First aid Made Oct 26, 2015, sent to the company Nov 3, 2015, published by CPSC Nov 25, 2015
The product, in the report: fitness tracker and watch worn on the wrist
I purchased and began wearing a FitBit Surge fitness tracker/wristwatch on 4 May 2015. I wore it on my left wrist as a normal watch day and night except for bathing and charging the device. In the morning on 14 May I noticed a red sore the size of a quarter under the wrist band keeper. The red spot was NOT under the metal clasp for the band. It was about 1” away and definitely under the keeper for the loose end of the band. I covered the red sore with a large bandage and continued to wear the FitBit Surge that day. In the morning of 15 May I took the Surge and bandage off. By that point the injury appeared like a 2nd degree burn after the blister has “popped”. To check my concerns, I wore the FitBit on my right wrist for a short period. Very quickly I felt a burning sensation on my right wrist so I promptly discontinued wearing the FitBit Surge entirely. I returned it to the store. From 15-17 May the injury on my left wrist looked like a large blister as it is peeling. The underlying skin remained red. As of 26 October 2015 there is still a red scar approximately the size of a quarter where the original injury occurred.

The product, in the report: FitBit Charge HR Plum L
Purchased a FitBit Charge HR on 5/31/2015. I’ve worn the device on my left wrist daily. In October, 2015 I noticed a raised itchy red bump under the device. The skin on top of the bump came off and the area continues to show a dime size red rash that will not go away. I’ve switched the device to the other arm. If the right arm becomes itchy, I’ll have to forget about using this tracking device.

The product, in the report: Fitbit Flex Fitness Tracker Bracelet
I am writing to report a problem with my FitBit Flex Fitness Tracker. I have been wearing this product for just over a month and it has burned my wrist. I take it off daily when I shower and am careful to keep it dry and to wear it loose.
I am saddened by this as I paid approximately $100.00 for this product. I was enjoying the data and gaining more motivation in obtaining a proper sleep each night as well as striving towards a 10,000 step goal each day.
The burn on my wrist is the same size and area as the open backing space of the Fitbit unit itself. It has been three days and has not yet cleared up.
I am now afraid to wear the unit as I do not want this burn to get worse.
I cannot seem to locate contact information at Fitbit to address this problem. It looks as if the problem is widespread among other users with the same concerns and it appears that the issue has been minimized and essentially “swept under the rug.”
I would like to receive a refund and/or a solution to this problem.

This is my second Fit bit Surge the company sent me a new one due to the rash and falling apart. I follow the directions on keeping it clean, wearing it loose when not working out, I don’t showeror sleep in the watch anymore. It still causes a nasty rash and at times i have what appeared to be rubbing or a burn mark. When i remove the watch for a few days the rash immediately goesaway.

The product, in the report: Fitbit Charge HR
I have had my fit for less than a month and can no longer wear it. I developed a rash/blister on my rash that makes it impossible for me to continue to wear it. I did research and read the instructions on how to wear it (taking it off after exercise and “giving your wrist a rest) which in opinion defeats the purpose of the device. Even after days of not wearing the device the rash is still there. I was not aware of any prior recalls on older models before wearing the Fitbit Charge HR.

The product, in the report: Fitbit Charge
I am reporting a Fitbit Charge which was worn on my wrist. After wearing it for several months with no problems and only removing it to charge it, I realized that underside of my wrist was red and appeared burned. The red spots appeared where the beams were emitted from the Charge. I didn’t wear it for a week giving my skin a chance to heal. The skin is scarred where the burns occurred and I will not wear it in the future. I only had this Fitbit for a few months when the problem appeared. I think others should be warned about this so they don’t purchase it. Also the manufacturer should be made to correct this problem.

The product, in the report: Fitbit Charge HR
I purchased a Fitbit Charge HR on February 9, 2015 and immediately began using it that day. One morning out of the blue near the end of May 2015, I woke up with huge blotches and skin peeling on my left wrist. I contacted Fitbit customer service and the agent basically blamed me for the product irritating me and then tried to charge me for a new band to ship to my home. I was disgusted at the end of the call where he said someone would call me back (btw...they never did to this day) so I went online to see if anyone else had a sudden break out or skin problem like I did. I saw countless reports of Fitbit users reporting they had some sort of skin irritation, itching, peeling like I did. I then saw a number to call and get legal advice so I made the call. I had no desire to contact Fitbit because they had no desire to take responsibility for their product. I currently have photos in my cell phone of the stages of my injuries. Unfortunately, I had just got a new job and did not have insurance so I did not seek medical care. Also, my injuries seemed to just slightly worsen with each passing day in appearance and the skin would itch and the blotches on my wrist would look darker and got scaly. About a little over a month later, my injuries subsided. I still have not received a call from Fitbit concerning my injuries but did receive a “how did we do” email from Fitbit a couple of days after my initial call.

My doctor reported it was contact dermatitis from the Fitbit. It was red and sore and then started to peel, itch and continued to be uncomfortable and there is still redness and discoloration as of today 9-18-2015.

I got an HR Charge for my birthday and after wearing it as directed for a couple of months, I started to get a weird sore on the inside and outside of my wrist. The sore was more of a chemical burn that began to fester to which I then contacted FitBit and sent in the defective device and was later reimbursed for the amount of the tracker. I was never contacted in regards to my injury.

I purchased a fitbit charge hr and it caused injury. I got irritated tissue that I thought was a tumor. I wore it daily and then a knot appeared on my skin. I immediately took the fitbit off. My chiropractor sent me for an xray. After reviewing the xray, he suspected inflamed tissue. The knot started going down in size.

The product, in the report: FitBit Surge - https://www.fitbit.com/surge
used the Fitbit Surge since May 7 - about a month or so after using I noticed a rash on both sides of my wrist. Over time it got worse (more red and some peeling skin like burn). I alerted Fitbit on June 21 and stopped wearing it then. My wrist has returned to normal. It took about 2 months for it to fully go away. I don’t wear the Fitbit Surge or any fitbit device now. I tried to select burn and rash below - but the form wouldn’t let me pick two even though it said I could. It looked like a burn w/out the pain. So either a rash or burn. I’m not sure which.

I purchased the Fitbit charge on 1/25/2015 and used it every day to moniter my steps and heart rate. I wore it on my left arm and noticed in march that i had a large burn on my arm where I usually wore my Fitbit but I cook a lot and thought I burnt myself with the oven and just did not notice. I switched the Fitbit to my right arm while my left arm was healing. A couple of weeks later I took the Fitbit off to take a shower and noticed a simmular burn starting on my right arm. We contacted Fitbit on April 10th and asked them if they had any suggestions and they offered us a refund but no sugestions. I did not send it back but I have not worn it since.

By 8/21/15 I noticed a red rash/burn forming on two places on my wrist; one, where the free loop of the watch band touched my skin and two, where the band touched my skin on the bottom of my wrist. During the healing process the rash/burn scabbed over and peeled leaving discoloration of my skin. I knew about the recall of the FitBit Flex and ensured that I read and followed FitBit’s instructions on wear and care as provided online and in the packaging. I did not wear it tight, I would remove it and dry my skin and the band when there was sweat and I didn’t use lotions on my skin.

Hello I purchased the Fitbit HR Charge from Target May 1, 2015. I followed the instructions and direction regarding using the FitBit. After my third or fourth day of wearing the product I noticed a blister like circle on my skin, I immediately stopped wearing the product. Within the 2 days or 3 days the skin peeled and left redness on my left outer wrist/arm. I returned the product to target and received money back, however the FitBit left a small scar on my wrist/arm.

The product, in the report: FitBit Heart rate monitor. exercising watch that monitors activity
My family purchased the FitBit HR last June as a Fathers Day gift and after several days I noticed a rash on my wrist and didn’t pay much mind to it. After another couple of days the rash turned into boils causing me to take the fitbit off. I assumed maybe something came into contact with skin under the band that caused the rash or I was wearing it too tight. The boils ended being infected and I chose to see my doctor. He informed me to put over the counter [antibiotic] and not to wear it until it cleared up. After 3 weeks it had left a small scar from the rash but I was willing to give it another chance and avoid wearing it too tight and consistently cleaning the armband in between exercises. The feature that I enjoyed the most about the fiitbit was that it monitors your sleep so...I wore it one night to bed and woke up the following day with another rash that also turned into boils.

I have purchased Fitbit surge model, I had to return the first product because the battery didn’ last more than 10 hours after 2 month of purchase which it should last up to 5 days when it’s fully charged. The company sent me a replacement which after a month of use, it burned my wrist with blisters. I have kept the product clean and took off the watch before going to bed most of the time.
This was a very painful and horrible experience.

I have a Fitbit Charge HR that I have had for just shy of 3 months. I was wearing it about two finger widths higher than my wrist on my dominant hand. Wearing it tight enough to keep it in place there, I started to get irritation on the clasp side. Since then, and doing research, I have lowered it on my wrist and started wearing it to where the device will stay put but I can move it around a bit. I haven’t had much issue with that until recently. I took the device off and plugged it in to charge in the morning. After being at work and letting it charge all day, I put the device back on right before bed. The next morning I took it off after waking up and before getting into the shower. I left the device off for approximately 1 hour when I put it back on before leaving for work. After only a few minutes of wearing it I noticed something didn’t feel right so I took the device back off. That’s when I saw a rectangular “burn” on my wrist the size and shape of the sensor on the device.

My fit bit sports watch is giving me a large rash. The rash is on the outsides of my wrist. Not under the watch, which would be the top of my wrist. Nor is it under my wrist which is where the clasp is. I just noticed online that thousands of people have been having this problem and that fit bit was supposed to have resolved it. But obviously, they have not. I have detailed pictures that have the date stamps and time stamps on it with my rash. These pictures are clearly show my rash! A large welt has developed on the outside of my left wrist and a smaller one on the inside of my left wrist! The largest welt itches and burns. I have had the device off of my wrist for over 48 hours at this time. The welt on both sides of my wrist are still there and quite painful and swollen.

The product, in the report: FitBit Surge wrist watch, step tracker
I purchased the Fitbit Surge three weeks ago.
1. the product does not function as advertised. The sync to the Android phone continues to malfunction. Notifications have never worked. 2. I am developing a blister rash because of this product.,
FitBit says don’t where so tight, I loosen, but then heart rated does not work. FitBit says don’t where it all the time, I wear it every other day with the same results, but does this not defeat the purpose of the fitbit?
I have removed the fitbit from my account and reregistered on my account at a min of 10 times. still does not function.
I have contacted Fitbit and their + times for the install of the Fitbit Surge.
I have asked for a full refund for this product that does not function as advertised and the fact that is if giving me a blister rash when wearing it. All I want is a refund of this product so I can purchase something that works as advertised and does not cause health related issues such as the blistered rash.

Fitbit Charge is causing skin irritation on my wrist, believe it is an allergic reaction to nickel. I am prone to nickel allergies and had no idea of the issues with the Fitbit. The product, in the report: Fitbit Charge HR
I purchased in May of 2015 a Fitbit Charge HR. Within a month of wearing it, I developed a rash on my wrist. I do not wear it 24/7, only during the day time hours (less than 8 hours). I do not wear it when washing my hands or taking a shower. I do not have any known allergy issues with nickel (I wear jewelry and a watch all the time). So for Fitbit to say this is not an issue with the product but how I am wearing it is absurd.

I got the Fitbit Charge HR as a gift on or about June 1, 2015. I started wearing on my left wrist, and after about a week, I noticed an area on my wrist under the band that was red, itchy, and scaly. I take it off when I shower and wash dishes. I switched it to my right wrist for a few days, and once the area on my left wrist was gone, I put it back on that arm. Once again, the rash reappeared after a few days. Put it back on my right wrist, and now after a week, it has the same rash. I applied a cortisone cream to the areas. This is very annoying. Thanks

I bought a new Fitbit Surge. I have always taken the time to thoroughly wash & rinse the band of the device and and after about a week I developed a bad rash on my wrist, I even started switching arms I wore it on every day and ended up with a rash on both arms after about 2 weeks. I was very excited for this wtach and love what it can do, however the material has GOT to change. Fitbit’s recommendation is to discontinue use, which in essence means I wasted $270 on a device in which the manufacturer tells me to not use. Crazy!

I have a Fitbit Flex and received a rash. I have been looking online at many similar instances. I have had this rash for 10 days now and there has been little to no improvement in the last 10 days. I removed the device as soon as I saw the rash and have not used it since. The effected area is very itchy and red. I am scared to wear the device anymore and I do not have any rashes anywhere else on my body. I wore the Fitbit Flex loose, cleaned the area and most days never even wore it in the shower or at night while sleeping.

I bought the Fitbit chargeHR to help myself start moving more throughout the week. I noticed that I have a rash on my wrist that’s pretty bad. It is red and itches. I’m concerned after reading that the battery and sweat can cause a chemical burn on the skin. I want to keep using it but I’m concerned that continued wear will cause permanent scaring. I would like to replace this with a different product and recommend people consider other products before buying Fitbit for this reason.

The product, in the report: Fitbit Charger is an activity tracker worn on your wrist
Early December 2014 I purchased a Fitbit Charger. Within 72 hours I had a swollen hand with a red raised lesion over my wrist. The swelling continued with my fingers loosing sensation. After a trip to an Urgent Care Center I was started on oral antibiotics for possible infection. Within 24 hours the swelling was worse, the lesion became more red and was spreading. I chose to go the Emergency Department and started in IV Clindamycin. Over the next 24 hours my the swelling began to subside but the lesion spread and looked really “mean.” After a visit to an Infectious Disease physician I was started on Vancomycin via a Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC). I was on IV antibiotics for 3 weeks. I returned the Fitbit Charger.

The product, in the report: Regular Fitbit Flex packaged with two straps.
I bought a fitbit around February, 2014, and soon began to wear it constantly unless it was recharging. After about eight months I noticed what I thought were patches of red, rough skin under the fitbit over my wrist. At first I though it was dry skin and treated it with lots of moisturizer without success. Eventually I switched the fitbit to my other wrist and developed the same reaction there. After removing the fitbit altogether, it took almost two months before the skin condition improved. I was wondering if I had developed psoriasis or eczema, but it did disappear entirely after completely removing the fitbit.

The product, in the report: Fitbit Surge, black
I purchased a Fitbit Surge in January 2015. After I wore the Fitbit Surge for just 24 hours I developed what appeared to be a burn on the outer side of my wrist about the size of a quarter. I removed the Fitbit and to allow the area to heal. Every time I wear the Fitbit the area develops. I changed wrists and it happened also. I did what the manufacturer advised to no avail. I continue to wear my Fitbit Surge, but I cover the area with a bandaid to prevent the skin problem.

The product, in the report: Fitbit Charge HR
I received the Fitbit Charge HR as a gift for mother’s day on 5/10. After wearing the watch for approximately a week, I noticed that I was getting a rash, similar to hives. It was very itchy. I ignored it assuming it was just a fluke. It would go away and then come back. Until I noticed again today, 6/2 that the rash came back and swelled up. I have removed it and started to research the issue online and found this article from ABC 7 news http://abc7news.com/755787/.
I will be returning the watch and hopefully obtain a full refund.

The product, in the report: Fitbit is a sport and fitness device.
I am the owner of a Fitbit Charge. I received this as a Christmas gift and wear it daily. I have experienced rashes and blisters along my wrist on a number of occasions. This only happens when I am wearing the device, and directly underneath it. These rashes are usually about as large as a half dollar coin, very red, blistered and sometimes itchy. They usually go away over a couple days and peels as it heals. I am very concerned about why this is happening. I won’t be wearing this device anymore! Fitbit needs to investigate this issue and correct it to ensure safe use for consumers.

I wore my Fitbt tracker daily to log exercise, sleep and count steps. After about a month or so I got a rash on my left arm where I was wearing the band. Received an upgrade from the Fitbit [REDACTED],which I use everyday for 14 months, with no reaction. I use the Fitbit Charge HR and have received 2 cigar shaped burns on my left wrist. I only remove it for charging and while I shower. After the last burn I waited for a minimum week and the burn blistered and peeled off like a bad sunburn. It faded and after a week continued to use it and within a week the red marks were back and I decided to start to look if others were suffering like I was. I found an article on my local ABC affilate and they suggested that I should report this.

The product, in the report: Fitbit flex, size large band black, I still have all of the packaging that it came in.
I bought a Fitbit flex November 2014 and started wearing it on my left wrist. After about 2 weeks I notice a red raise bump the size of a nickel, with redness tissue surrounding the area. It continued to get bigger and more irritated. I stop wearing it and some of the redness went down. But after a couple of week I went to the dermatologist to have it looked at because it was still irritating. He gave me a steroid cream that I had to use for 2 weeks. It has gone down but the skin was still red and I have a small scar on my wrist. I have never showered or swam with it. I saw a piece done on the news that other people were having the same problem so this is why I am reporting it.

The product, in the report: Product is used to track activity through steps/distance and also track sleep patterns.
I was an avid user of the Fitbit [REDACTED] until it was recalled. I then waited for the Fitbit Charge to come out and purchased it very shortly upon release to the public. I had been using the Fitbit Charge for a couple months and then back in March started to feel a “zing” from the wristband. The “zing” became more prominent and started to bother me more even after I took the Fitbit Charge off. There was a slight raised red bump on the back of my wrist, but it was the “zings” that really hurt. It seemed like I was getting a shock or burn every time it zinged. The zing/burning sensation lasted a couple days and then it finally went away. I contacted FitBit support and they wrote me back and said that all their rash issues were taken care of and that I should read the “how to take care of my FitBit” and make sure I kept it clean and to try it out again.
I decided at that point that FitBit was not going to stand behind their product and just discontinued use of the product. It’s like that Pavlov Conditioning. If I get burned and it hurts once, why would I try it again?!!
I just saw an article from 7 on Your Side in the SF Bay Area and realized that I wasn’t alone in the burning sensation.

I received a Fitbit Surge as a gift. I have been wearing it continuously since I received except when I shower. I love having one to monitor my steps, heart rate, etc. However, I developed a rash a few days ago. I am still wearing the watch but have covered the rash with band aides. The rash has gotten worse. I love my watch but I also don’t want a rash.

Recently got the new Fitbit Charge HR. Had read you should keep clean, dry and loose to prevent the rash some had reported. Closely followed this preventive measure but after few weeks of wear still ended up with nasty rash. This is ridiculous! If Fitbit is aware of this problem they ne to face up to it and do something about it! Very disappointed because I love the Fitbit. But definitely not the irritating rash!!!

I would like to report a problem with my new Fitbit Charge HR fitness watch that my husband had given me for an anniversary present in April 2015. After wearing this product for a number of days, my wrist broke out in an itchy rash. Apparently they use nickel in their clasp and I am unfortunately allergic to nickel. I really enjoy this product but not do not enjoy having an rash. I wish they would create a fix for this product. I can’t believe they use nickel for a sports band.

I purchased the FIT BIT Surge last month on 4/16 and started noticing a rash under my wrist. I clean it and take it off often and even made sure it stays loose and not too tight. The rash comes right back every time I use it. I purchased this item to also track my sleep patterns but I am too scared to leave this on at night. After my workouts, I always wipe my wrist and the watch off. This is ridiculous for me to pay $250.00 for something that irritates the skin.

Fitbit Rash
I’ve been using the Fitbit but noticed that I was getting a red rash - someone told me to Google it and found that there were many others suffering the same thing. The solution was to not wear it for a length of time but the product is made so we can wear it all the time to monitor steps, sleep, eating, etc. If we take it off, that skews the daily reports to compare....
I have the Fitbit Flex.

The product, in the report: This is a wrist band type activity tracker with a wide band (approximately 1.5 inches. My particular tracker is black.
Within one week of wearing the fitbit surge on my left arm I began to have an uncontrollable itch that felt similar to what one would feel with athletes foot. I would take the band off for breaks when I was not moving but otherwise would leave the band on almost the entire day and when sleeping. Afterall, it is an activity tracker and that is what it is supposed to do so you can’t really take it off if you want accurate tracking.
After 2 weeks the area started to become red. After 3 weeks the skin began to become scaly and is now flaking. I have started applying anti-fungal cream and powder to help heal the rash and prevent it from getting any worse.
While I don’t believe it is any materials in the product that are causing the rash, I do believe that the design of the band is to blame. It is a wide band with no breathable mesh holes to allow the skin access to fresh air or to dry appropriately when sweating. The tracker is worn when a person is working out or even when they are at rest, but the skin is always exuding oils and other fluids. The lack of oxygen and drying likely causes a habitat well suited for bacteria to grow on the skin.
Many times after working out the band and the skin underneath the band will exude a foul odor indicative of bacterial growth.
Fitbit should take some responsibility for their product by acknowledging the design is partly to blame and should rectify by releasing a band that allows the skin to breath properly.

Fitbit charge HR. I bought it at best buy 3 months ago. It took 1 week for a rash to develop significantly enough to where i had to remove the device for 5-7 days every other week. The problem is this defeats the purpose of the watch, to track sleep, heart rate, etc. that can’t be done without wearing the watch. I hope they issue a new band that is hypo allergenic.
