Was using onion chopper to dice onions, tomatoes and jalapenos. The slicer head kept slipping while cutting the onion, so I removed the blade and cleaned it. Upon reinstallation, I locked the safety lock and proceeded to cut more onions using the device. However, the blade slipped and cut my right hand thumb severely.

I was attempting to switch blades and use my chopper per instructions, and the piece that locks the blade in place (which is a sliding lock next to the blades) broke off as I slid it into the lock position. As it broke my hand (more specifically my thumb and pointer finger) were on the lock so naturally my fingers went into the blades full force. The tip of my index finger went through the whole square hole of blades. You can see the slice an inch down into my finger and nail, as if I was trying to cut my finger in half like a hot dog. It’s not pretty, but it could have been worse. I can’t believe the way this thing was made, without a guard. A small piece of my finger is gone, the slice was super deep. I still have no sensation on my finger and have anxiety when using blades after over 25 years in a kitchen with no injuries.

The locking mechanism has broken and now the blade doesn’t stay in.

I was going to cut an onion using my mueller onion chopper. Mind you this was the second purchase of this chopper from amazon as the first one came with a broken blade locking mechanism. I went to lock in the blade and when I went push into lock position, the button broke and my hand slid over the blade, slicing into my thumb. There was a lot of blood but I’m ok. I drop kicked it into the garbage after I stopped bleeding and bandaged my thumb up.

I used my onion chopper and disassembled it to clean it with soap and water. After cleaning and drying it I attempted to put the grid blades back into its position within the chopper using my thumbs on too and my other fingers gripping the bottom. My left thumb slid onto the blades and severely cut it which prompted me to go to the emergency room as the wound profusely bled out. While at the hospital it continued to bleed for over 45 minutes. They could not use stitches because my thumb was mangled with multiple pieces of skin hanging off. I can’t even pay for my medical bills from this stay at the ER even with insurance coverage.

While assembling my brand new chopper, the blade locking mechanism suddenly dislodged, causing my left thumb to slip into the chopper blade. The blade took a sizable chunk out of my left thumb that kept bleeding for hours. Concerned about the bleeding and thinking I may need stitches, I went to a walk-in clinic for treatment. After getting treated, I contacted Amazon to report the issue, and they promptly sent me a replacement chopper. While assembling the new chopper, the locking mechanism again dislodged, but fortunately I didn’t sustain additional injuries. I did not return the replacement chopper at the time, but I still have never mustered the courage to try it out.

After cleaning the product I was about to put it back together and put it away. I attempted to lock the blade in place and the lock was stuck. I applied pressure it broke my finger slipped and got cut pretty bad. My husband had to come home and attend to it. My thumb was in pain for several weeks. The side of my finger nail came off. The [vegetable chopper] slider/switch that hold the blades in place became loose and eventually fell off. We tried to [REDACTED] glue it back in place but that did not work. When you open the chopper after using, the blades stick to the top and sometimes fall back down onto hands. It became quite a nightmare to use despite being our favorite kitchen tool. One time the blade fell and as I grabbed it, I lacerated my thumb quite hard. I do have pictures. I also never got the first recall information.

The first day I used my onion chopper was Thanksgiving 2019. I was changing the blades out to the desired cut to be made., I pushed hard on the lock button to secure the blade plate. As I did so, the top of the locking mechanism separated from the body of the chopper lid and my thumb continued in the forward motion forcefully making contact with the serrated blades. I suffered multiple cuts in the pad on my right thumb and was unable to use it for almost two full weeks. I probably should have gone in for stitches, but since it was Thanksgiving as well as [REDACTED], I just pressed on with dinner plans and pain meds. I have photos of the injury if needed.

I was assembling the onion chopper and when I pushed the tab to lock the blades in, the tab broke causing my thumb to slip off of the tab and onto the sharp blades. This caused a deep cut on the tip of my thumb and A LOT of bleeding.

Purchased through Amazon on or about 01/13/2017. I received an email from Amazon on 10/29/2020 that this product was being recalled due to a potential hazard. I do not recall the date that I was injured using this project (the injury is part of my medical records at OHSU in Portland, OR). While using this item my right thumb was cut so bad and it would not stop bleeding. I called the paramedics & they were not allowed to stitch the wound. However, my thumb needed stitches. I immediately went to my doctor’s office and stitches were done. I think I was also given a tetanus shot. You can still see the scar on my thumb. After returning home, I immediately threw this item in the trash.

I was going to chop a tomato when I unlocked the small chopping blades to replace with the larger chopping blades. As I went to lock the blades in place the lock pull free from the back of the chopper and my thumb went into the blades. A trip to the emergency room landed me with 2 stitches, an x-ray, and an antibiotic. Nearly cut off a chunk of my thumb next to nail.

The blades on the Mueller Austria Onion Chopper Pro are extremely sharp. When handling them the plastic borders are not wide enough to prevent touching the blades. In addition, there is no way to tell which side is the sharp side. I have sliced my fingers each time I’ve used this chopper. The first time, the cut was fairly deep. If someone were not aware how sharp the blades were they could become severely injured. I’ve had to warn my family each time I’ve used them, and placed them in the sink or dishwasher. I also have to store them in the very back bottom cupboard so that no one else will use them. They are very dangerous!

I had an incident identical to those described as the reason for the recall of the Mueller Austria Onion Chopper Pro. I was using my thumb to try and toggle the unlock the switch for the blades and the switched wouldn’t move or was stuck. Because it wouldn’t go so I pushed harder on the switch until my thumb slipped off the switch and plunged into the blades. I had a pretty bad laceration on my thumb, alot of blood spilled in my house. Ultimately did not require stitches was able to work with my companies nurse to properly bandage it up. Couldn’t use my thumb for 2-3 weeks. No long term damage other than a scar, thumb is fine now (1 yr later).

Mueller Vegetable Chopper I bought this on amazon and twice I have been injured by this chopper, and very severely. On April 2, 2020 my teenage son suffered a laceration on his left index finger while using the Mueller Austria Onion chopper Pro model number M-700. The incident is videotaped because my son was doing a cooking project for school that needed to be videotaped. As shown in the video, he was extremely careful while using it and his finger slid inside the blades because a segment of the product came out suddenly. The video shows the whole incident and the laceration afterwards. He required 2 stitches on his finger.

A few weeks after receiving the chopper as a Christmas gift the tabs that hold the slicers in place broke. I have hung onto them in case I needed them but I have continued to use the chopper.
