The product, in the report: cook top
(05/20/20140 The consumer stated that she turned the cook top off after cooking dinner. There was an HE code on the control panel. The consumer stated that she didn’t think anything of the code. She walked away. When she came back to clean the counters, she smelled a plastic burning smell. She realized that the element was still on. She turned the cook top it off at the breaker. When her husband home, he checked the element and discovered that it was doing the same thing.
(05./21/2014) The consumer called the manufacturer. The consumer advised them of the incident. They checked for a recall. None was found. The consumer was offered a service call at a cost to the consumer.
The consumer did not accept the offer.
06/05/2014 -text on consent form from consumer - “I have since found out we did purchase a service contract thru Lowes. We purchased on 11/15/10 with a four year plan. I would still like the manufacturer to recall this stove to prevent any loss to others who purchased the same models. I was advised it was the circuit board. They are replacing today for me.

The product, in the report: Range with oven; Smooth surface, four burners and warmer plate and oven
The consumer was cooking asparagus and a potato dish in a metal bowl. The consumer put the bowls in the oven. The oven was set at 350 degrees and was on for about 10 to 15 minutes when the consumer saw flames inside the oven and noticed smoke coming out.
The two dishes were on fire.
The consumer noticed that the top broiler coil in the oven was on. The consumer cut the power to the oven with the circuit breaker. The oven had a lot of smoke soot. The consumer cleaned the oven thinking that she had turned the broiler on by accident.
The next day, the consumer was cooking an apple dish in a metal bowl when it also caught fire. The broiler had turn on by itself again. The consumer turned off the circuit breaker again.
There was no damage to anything else and no injuries reported.
The fire department was not called.
The consumer called the manufacturer and they said there was no recall. Consumer asked for help with the repair bill but representative said they could not do it. The technician came and said he has had other consumers with same problem with this product before.

The product, in the report: Electrolux Home Products Georgia Model # PLEM30S9DCA Identifying part information: Spitfire Controls SF5522-L8720-REV A Model number 316418720 ES510 ELEC 30” Mexico 120VAC 60 HZ
I have a Frigidare professional series Convection oven, that we purchased in 2007. I thought it would be best to report this so that people are aware of this issue. I am not sure whom I should contact, but I don’t want to see anyone burn their houses down with this. I googled this model and found other people with the same problem. I am pretty handy so I reacted quickly and pulled the wall oven from the cabinet so to prevent the wooden cabinet catching on fire, I have a fear that someone whom is not savvy enough may have an issue here.
Tuesday 12 PM 3/25/14
I set the convection oven to 425, when it reached temp, I went to set the timer for 17 minutes- sparks shot out of the oven as soon as I hit the start button, smoke and small fire came from the control panel. After further inspection, the convection side of the control board caught on fire and burned through both sides of the clock board assembly. Photo 5.jpg
I am not sure whom I should report this too but I thought it would be best to make someone aware of this problem to prevent future fires. If you have any questions my information is listed below.

No one hurt Made Mar 28, 2014, sent to the company Apr 11, 2014, published by CPSC Apr 25, 2014
The product, in the report: Glass cook top oven / range
I have a Frigidaire Electric oven / range. On (2) separate incidents the oven had been in use and was shut off. Unknown to the operator the oven did not shut but instead continued to operate and heat up until the oven displayed F1 in the location of the oven temperature.
The oven was very hot and could not be shut off from the control panel. The only way the oven could be shut off was with the circuit breaker. The heat was so intense that when the oven door was opened, smoke came out and set off the smoke detectors in my home.
It was as if the oven had gone in to the self clean mode on it’s own.
This seems to be a significant fire hazard, especially if the operator shuts the unit off and then leaves an unattended home.

The product, in the report: Wall Oven
Consumer stated that he started experiencing problems with is wall oven immediately after it was installed, control panel got as hot as the temperature inside the oven, which he feels is a fire hazard. He has tried to be cautious by using oven mittens to prevent himself from getting burnt. He has contacting the manufacturer since installation of 2011 and has had several service calls for replacing the control panel module at least 4 times most current 3/19/14. This did not resolve the issue the incident kept re-occurring. The control panel still remains hot.
He is concerned that they are not addressing the safety issue of the unit being a burn hazard to the consumer and should be reported so that this can be resolved.
The product is not affected by a recall.

The product, in the report: Glass top stove
We used the stove to cook dinner, it was set at 375 for about 30-40 minutes and then shut off while we ate. After about another 30-40 minutes after the stove had been shut off the outside glass just exploded and shattered glass went everywhere. We have 3 small kids at home ranging from 2-7 and even though no one got hurt there could of been a different outcome. There was no cracks in glass and no one was near the stove for them to of hit it with anything.

The product, in the report: range
(01/02/2014) The consumer stated that her daughter was cooking something on top of the stove. She heard a loud crashing sound. The crashing sound was the outer glass of the oven door exploding.
The consumer stated that no one was injured.
(01/03/2014) The consumer contacted the manufacturer. She advised them of the incident. She was told that there was probably a hairline fracture in the glass that caused it to shatter. The consumer stated that she was offered a 10% discount on the replacement glass and free shipping. The manufacturer also offered to send her a list of places to call that would install the glass for the consumer. The consumer declined the offer. The consumer was advised by the manufacturer that she had 30 days to make a decision about the discount.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire smooth cooktop stove.
Woke up at 4AM to the smoke alarm going off. Frigidaire smooth stove top burner had spontaneously turned on and ignited an item on the stove top. In attempting to turn the element off, found that only way to turn it off was to turn the dial to High. High is off, and the detent position of Off leaves the burner on high now. The controls are electronic, so it is not a mistaken position of the knob. The symptoms are exactly the same as an existing recall, but my model number is not covered in the existing recall.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Model PLEFMZ99GCB SN VF80449274 Smooth top Stove and Oven - Professional Series
As I was leaving our home for work I noticed a burning plastic smell. I ran to the kitchen to discover the largest front left stove eye was bright red and very hot. No one had used the stove. The stove was off earlier when I fed the cat. A plastic pan handle was over the eye and smoking. There was grease in the pan. The knob was in the OFF position. I had to turn off the oven/stove from the breaker box. No one was injured.
It is very upsetting to think of what may have happened if I hadn’t passed by the stove on my way out at the right time. My Wife and pets were home. What if this had occurred just an hour earlier while we all were sleeping? I don’t like my family and home being put in danger by our Frigidaire stove.
When I returned home, I turned the stove back on and I was able to capture HD video the stove eye turning red and the control display malfunctioning. I can send it to you for your reference if you would like.

The product, in the report: RANGE/STOVE
We own a Frigidaire Professional Series Range Model PLEF398CCD. After using the range, I turned the front burner to low to keep the pan warm. A short time later I heard a popping noise coming from the range. I observed the contents in the pan boiling. I removed the pan from the burner and discovered the heating element was bright red as if it were on high. I turned the burner off and it continued to burn bright red. I pulled out the range and disconnected the power. When I attempted to plug the unit in, the burner turned on even though the all controls were in the off position.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire wall oven model GLEB2727HBC, Serial Number NF14628619
On September 24, 2013 while running the clean cycle on our Frigidaire Wall Oven Model GLEB2727HBC the inner oven glass shattered into many pieces. No one was injured. We hired a Frigidaire authorized repair company to repair the oven at a cost of $352.95. If this had happened when food was in the oven a piece of glass could easily have transferred to the food and caused harm. The oven was purchased on Jan 26, 2012 and installed in April, 2012. So the incident occurred after only 17 months of service.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire stove top oven
This has happened more than once. We have a Frigidaire Stove model FGES3045KFA. The burner dials are located at the front of the stove on top. Just pressing up against them has accidentally turned the burners on causing anything on top of the stove to burn. We have had two small fires to date and numerous times where the burners are on without us knowing. Tonight, 05/28/13, my son placed a grocery bag on top of the stove and accidentally and without knowledge bump one of the burners on catching a plastic container on fire. This cannot be the only incident with this stove top. It is very dangerous.

The product, in the report: range oven
I purchased a Frigidaire Range Oven - model # FGGF3056KF approx 5/6 months ago. Didn’t install until October. While using the oven, i experienced the knobs on the front of the oven getting extremely hot and actually burned myself. I had to use a towel in order to touch them to use the top of my stove.
Being very concerned about this, with having small children in my house, i called Frigidaire and express my concerns and ask that a service person come out and check to make sure the oven wasn’t defective. . They told me that because it is a stainless stove, that’s what happens. Told them that i was not happy with this range and would like to have it exchanged for a safer one. Was told i had to go back to PC Richards and deal with them. There was nothing they could do.
I recently had friends and family over for the thanksgiving holiday and they couldn’t believe how hot the knobs gots.
This product i feel is extremely unsafe especially around young children. I already burned myself and can’t risk someone else getting burned and holding me liable.

The product, in the report: Convection Oven. Free standing..with Pan drawer underneath. Stainless.
There is a pan drawer underneath my Frigidaire oven. My son reached in to the open drawer when the oven was running. Not the stove...the pan drawer underneath of it. He suffered a 3rd degree burn on his arm. I reached underneath to see if it was a fluke and was nearly burned myself. It has some kind of design flaw that is allowing a ceramic piece that is exposed to get hot enough to burn in a split second of touching it.
I emailed the company who makes it...electrolux...and the referred me to a section in the manual about an Anti Tip device? Which has nothing to do with this issue.
The drawer is not referred to and there are NO warnings about opening while the oven is on. This is an accident waiting to happen, and they have no intention of recognizing that.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Slide in Range Professional Series
We have a Frigidaire Range we purchased approx. 4 years ago. The Range was turned off and we had a heavy glass 8 cup measuring cup with tea sitting on the range. The range had not been used that evening. My husband and I were sitting on the outside porch when we heard a loud crashing sound. Our 11 year old son had just walked in and we thought he broke a dish. When we went in to investigate, we learned the glass measuring cup had exploded just seconds after our son passed by it. The glass blew all over the kitchen, dining room, and family room.
We checked the stove and found that it was on high. I was confused as to why it was on and when I looked at the dial it was in the off position. The digital display changed settings by itself going from high to low and back. We could not find the circuit breaker to shut it down and had to call the fire department. They responded and ended up pulling the range out and unplugging it.
We contacted Frigidaire and Electrolux. After approx. 2 hours it was determined there was a recall for that model for turning on unexpectedly. They did not volunteer that information, we specifically had to ask them if there was a recall and they advised “yes”. We then had to ask them what the recall was for and they said they would check. That was when we found out why it was recalled. They advised they would get back with us after they determined if the range qualified for the recall.
This occurred approx. 2 - 3 months ago and we still have not heard from them and we are still without an operating range/stove. To me this is unacceptable. I would like to know if there is something you/I could do to speed this process up short of calling an attorney. I would appreciate any help you can provide.
Thank you, [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Slide-In Range. Model number FES 355 EBB
I purchased a Frigidaire Slide-In range from Lowe’s in Jan. of 2007. Model number FES 355 EBB. The serial number is NF64721744. I know my appliance is out of warranty, however it doesn’t resolve the fact that the oven control wiring harness caught on fire while pre-heating the oven. Thankfully we were here to take care of the problem before it set the house on fire. I contacted Frigidaire through their website. A [REDACTED], Correspondence Specialist, e-mailed me back and stated that the product was out of warranty, there were no recalls, they were under no obligation to remedy, and I could have it repaired at my expense. This is more than a light going out. This is a very serious issue with their products. After researching other forums, and yours included, this appears to be an ongoing problem with this company. Please get these products off the market and force Frigidaire to make refunds for selling products this dangerous.

Frigidaire Professional Series Range. Model No. FEFLZ87GCB, Serial No. VF82238149. (I found the receipt~Bought at hhgregg on 8/2/08). Last November, my Husband was on shift (fire fighter) and I was making TV dinners for my kids. I put the plastic trays on a cookie sheet as instructed by the box and put them in the pre-heated 350 degree oven (which actually smelled funny when it was pre-heating). I had it in only for about 5 minutes when the range made a beeping noise. I went in and there was an error code in the display. There was no way for me to turn anything off or stop the “alarm”. I immediately looked up the code and it stated it was a “Run Away Temperature” code. I ran and flipped the breaker to turn the oven off. When I took the food out, the trays were completely melted onto my cookie sheets and anything that was on top of the cooktop melted as well~the entire range got THAT hot.
We did not use the range for about 4 months and one day my husband decided to see if there was still a problem. It worked fine for about a week~we thought it was just a fluke, but then completely stopped working. We have been without a range ever since. The cooktop is still working. I have gone on-line to see what the problem could be and everyplace I have looked said that the Frigidaire ranges were recalled for this reason except ours. Along with many other people who have not had this problem resolved.
I called yesterday to find out if by the slimmest chance ours was recalled because we can’t afford a new range or spend the $500 (is what everyone on-line as said it would cost) to get this repaired. The gentleman who answered to phone said yes, there was a recall...YES!! No, after he transferred me to the Recall Department they informed me that it was not the oven but the cooktop. UGH!!! Oh, and Frigidaire is being so nice and sending me the cooktop replacement part that I don’t need at the moment. The appliance repair company (who Frigidaire referred me to) said that they just had someone else last week with this same problem. Come on Frigidaire...Obviously, the Runaway Temperature is a problem with our model Range as well as the others that it was recalled for. I have 4 young children and really miss cooking in my oven~especially with the holidays coming up!! Thanks.

The range is a Frigidaire, Module fef376qe S/n VF13904854 I turned the oven on bake at 350 degrees, waited for it to heat up, but after awhile it started beeping loudly, it was smoking and would not turn off by the controller, I had to turn the braker off to get the stove to stop heating up. I sent e-mail to the company and the reply was to have it repaired by a service company, and that there was not a recall on this module. Why? This is something that could burn your house down and/or kill someone. This is a safety issue that needs attention, or people could die. How many of these ranges out there? I saw the show AMERICA NOW, or I would not have known there was a problem.

The product, in the report: This stove is 4 years old, purchased at a local Lowe’s store. It is a glass top stainless stove. The controls are on the front of the stove. Upon research there is a recall for another problem with this stove.
This incident occurred with my Frigidaire Professional Series Glass top stove. Model # PLES389ECG. This stove is 4 years old. My husband and I came home from work on a Friday to find the outer most glass of the oven door shattered all over our kitchen floor. There was no one in the house that day, and nothing could have fallen into the glass. The oven part of the stove had not been in use for several days and the stove top had not been used that day. Upon some research I found that this is not an isolated incident with this particular brand of stove. I called Frigidaire about replacing the glass, they will replace it but I have to pay for it. I thing that something of this sort, that has occurred several times to other people should be a recalled defect.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire range with convection oven #FGES3065KW Slide in, smooth cooktop, 30 inches, white.
A Frigidaire FGES3065KW range with smooth cook top was installed in our kitchen January 2011. It has had normal domestic use since that time. I have used the cleaning feature on it 2 or 3 times, the last several months ago. Today, June 19, 2012 I heated the oven to 350F to bake something. I noticed earlier in the day the left side of the handle was loose, and even fell down on the left, appearing as if there were some problem with the screw holding it onto the oven door and through the layers into the inside of the door. I just reset it onto the screw and thought I would fix it later in the day after baking.
I prepared the item to bake (a pan of brownies) and set it down and opened the door to put them in. I also noticed a mild but odd smell, perhaps a bit chemical ? but nothing I could place. Without warning, the outside glass door e x p l o d e d all over the kitchen, onto the counter top to the left and across the kitchen floor, about 10 to 12 feet away from the door. It appeared to explode in the direction of where the handle had come loose earlier as there were no shards of glass to the right of the oven. I spent hours cleaning up the glass, which thankfully was safety glass, so I had not been diced to bits after being hit by it.
We have called the place we purchased it at, Standard TV and Appliance in Beaverton, Oregon and will have it fixed. It is just beyond warranty so it is our expense. I am leery after reading about others’ experiences with this event and don’t know what to do to prevent this in the future, as there was nothing unusual in my use of it. Should I not use the cleaning feature provided? We have done nothing to the door to cause the handle to loosen. I did read online about one man, a mechanical engineer who felt that the Frigidaire factory was using power screwdrivers while constructing their products that stripped the threads on the screws in their ovens. I am 5 feet tall and not a particularly “rough” person, just doing a normal amount of cooking and cleaning of the oven. I use the convection feature rarely, but wonder now if I should never use it? I am the only cook in my house. I never set anything on the oven door when it is open and am careful to keep the door closed (as I was instructed) after the oven is turned off and the fan is still on, in order to keep the electronics cool in the panel.
The next oven I purchase will NOT have a glass door after this experience, but I am stuck with this one for a while, wondering when and if the next door will go as this was an expensive oven (to us) and is already installed.

The glass cracked from the center of the stove around the left front burner all the way to the other side of the stove. I have had problems with a black liquid oozing out from under the stove every time I use it. November 24, 2011, and may 8, 2012: my mother-in-law and I were both home preparing Thanksgiving dinner when I turned around and noticed the stove was on. I asked her why she had turned the stove on and she said she had not touched it. When I looked closely all the dials were tuned to the off position but the digital indicator was on high. We could not turn the stivetop off and we had to turn off the circuit breaker and then restart it about 30 minutes later. This incident happened again after this date and I photographed the stove. MIT shows the time and the dials set to off. Again today I was putting my children to bed when I heard a beeping sound from the kitchen. There was smoke coming off of the stovetop and the front and back range were on. Three separate times this product has proved defective and unsafe. It could burn my house down.

As best as I can read from the partially hidden label, the model number is PLEB30S90CB and the serial number is NF61928728. When moving the racks out, they fall through the supporting guides on the side of the oven dumping what is on the rack. I contacted Frigidaire and their assessment is that the oven liner has become warped and should be replaced. This problem is potentially dangerous.

Frigidaire cooktop- will not turn off when dial is turned into off position. Will not turn to correct temperature setting. Tried simmering and instead was on high. Had to turn off at breaker. Seems a threat of Starting a fire.
Called recall center and this item at this time is not under recall. I don’t see how when other frigidaire cooktops have the same problem.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Pro Series Stove Model PLEF398DCC, SN VF50641733
My Frigidaire Stove Model PLEF398DCC, SN VF50641733 caught on fire in our kitchen, it was actually burning. I was in the kitchen with my wife and she touched the Broil pad, she can’t remember if she touched the start pad or not but there was a loud arching noise behind the control panel and flames shooting from the back of the stove. The circuit breaker didn’t trip, it just kept arching and burning. I pulled the stove out and unplugged it to stop the arching. The stove continued to burn for 10 or 15 seconds and the wall behind the stove was blackened. If I hadn’t been home the house would almost certainly have caught on fire. Frigidaire supervisor [REDACTED] from Augusta Georgia didn’t even care enough to send someone to look at what caused this fire because the stove is 7 years old and is out of warranty. My wife and I, of course, did not want the stove fixed because we could never trust this stove again. We thought Frigidaire should look at the stove to see what caused the fire before it burns down some ones home or worse. They had the nerve to tell me they would send a technician if I would pay for the call! I can not believe they didn’t want to diagnose what caused this fire. I visited their web site and told them I had contacted you and the NYS Department of State Consumer Assistance Unit. After they read this they did send me an email and repeat the offer to come and look at the stove at my expense. I have reported this problem to you and NYS, my conscience is clear. I don’t know how the people at Frigidaire can sleep at night!

The product, in the report: Frigidaire (range)
I have A stove manufactured by Frigidaire. the model # is FEFL79DBL and the serial # is VF70130722. On February 9,2012 about 7 am after cooking eggs in the skillet. I turned stove off and proceeded to eat my eggs. approx 20 minutes later to clean up I didn’t notice burner wasn’t off until I touched it with my finger. it wasn’t a major burn but it did wake me up. I preceded to try to turn it off again but it wouldn’t. so I ended up turning the breaker off in the basement. The Left Front stove burner will not shut off with the switch on the stove. the only way to shut it off is to unplug it from the outlet plug.
The Frigidaire website shows other models that are very similar are under a recall. but not mine. When i contacted Frigidaire about such recall and they told me it wasn’t under the perimeters. I asked if there was something they could do to resolve my issue and they said no. but they took my info and offered local places that would come out and fix it for a charge.
the Ranges that are Recalled are identical as mine with few minor differences.
After doing some research i found that there are others that are having the same issue as mine. I wish that Frigidaire would stand up to the plate and offer to repair it free of charge...just like the ones under the recall.

I have a Frigidaire oven range model # FEFL77ABE and Serial # VF21830395. It was purchased and installed in my home in the summer of 2002. On January 11, 2012 I was baking a pie in the oven. The oven was on 380 degrees. It was in the oven for about 35 minutes. When I opened the oven to check it a blast of heat hit me and I knew something was wrong. The pie was blackened on the top. I immedieatly removed the pie. I had to use tongs to set my trutemp oven temperature device in the oven. It maxed out at 600 degrees!! I f I had not been upstairs keeping an eye on my pie my whole house would’ve burned down! This model is a fire hazard! When I called the company they refused to help me in any way and they refused to recall it! When I called the recall department they also refused any assistance and they refused to recall the oven! This model could cause serious property damage and or serious injury.

I turned on frigidaire wall oven to preheat to 425 degrees about a minute or two later the oven control panel started on fire. Soot and flames shot out of it, and smoke filled the kitchen. After the repairman came out we pulled it out and there was a large scorch mark on the wood above the control panel.. it could have burned my house down. I am reporting this because my old next door neighbors called and told me today that their exact same model oven started on fire in the control panel today while they were preheating it.

The product, in the report: My Frigidaire/Electrolux range is model number FED355EBB; serial number NF60508763; dated January, 2006. This is the range that came with my condo when I purchased the condo in August, 2009. The range was purchased new by the seller of the condo approximately two years prior to August, 2009.
On Monday, July 4, 2011, at 4:50 a.m. I was awakened by the smell of smoke. Somehow my self-cleaning feature of my Frigidaire oven had come on. There was one plastic microwavable pan in the oven. This pan caught fire and filled my house with choking smoke. My oven has digital touch pad controls on it.
Tuesday, July 5, 2011. I went to work the next day and told a co-worker about this. She told me that the same thing had happened with her oven. That night I did some research on the Internet and found many accounts of similar incidents involving various brands with a similar digital touchpad that controls the oven, such as [REDACTED], Frigidaire, and others. I found a contact person’s name and email address at Electrolux, which owns Frigidaire. The contact’s name was [REDACTED].
I have been negotiating with [REDACTED] since July 9, 2011. I first asked him to replace my stove; he refused. Then, after I said I would report Electrolux to this and other agencies and also to take my story to the local TV stations, he agreed to replace the stove. I accepted delivery of a new unit on 9/24/11. However, I have not had the unit installed.

We had recently purchased a Frigidaire Gallery range. My 10 months old son received 3rd degree burns by opening the storage drawer and reaching inside 30 minutes after the oven had been turned off. The portion of the stove frame that the drawer face rests against was found the be extremely hot. The drawer is not a “warming drawer,” but rather a storage drawer that does not have a locking mechanism.

We own a Frigidaire range & stovetop (Model Number = PLEFZ39GCB, Serial Number = VF83761239) We found recently, when boiling water on the back right burner, the two left burners came on automatically. The heat level fluctuated from low to high, while the knob was set to off. Setting the knob to low kept the setting at low until we were done using the back right burner. The service man who came out didn’t know what to make of the situation so he called the Frigidaire tech line and they said there was a moisture seal kit needed to fix the problem. I contacted Frigidaire directly and they informed me that this product was not recalled, though I think it definitely needs to be. It is clearly a fire hazard in addition to a life safety hazard.

I am writing because my Frigidaire Brand Stove’s oven broiler is turning on by itself.
I was cooking on top of the stove and walked away. I noticed that the kitchen seemed to be heating up. I went in to discover that the broiler was on in the oven. I tried to turn it off but it wasn’t going off. I had to flip the breaker in order to get the stove off. Since the incident we have not used the stove because of the broiler coming on by itself. We keep the breaker off.

The product, in the report: Fridgedaire Single Wall Oven
We put our wall oven on cleaning cycle. The oven became extremely hot, we smelled fumes , we turned on exhaust on a separate range and turned on overhead fan in the den. The insulation and/or seal on the door apparently melted, the seal inside the glass window melted steaking internally -- unable to clean between the glass lamination. We fear that this excessive heat and “air leak” around the door seal could have been toxic and the extreme heat could have caused a fire in the house. The wall oven was recently installed,, two technicians have said it can’t be fixed, we are getting resistance from the Fridgidaire customer survice representatives. The item is a Fridgedaire Single Wall Oven - item # FFEW3025LB A Brand FR12M purchased from Wholesale Appliance Center , LLC in Summerville, SC. We purchased this OVEN in February this year , it was instaled at the end of March 2011. Appliance Doctors of Ladson, SC have verified that this oven needs to be replaced.

C.c. Lowe’s Extended Protection Plans, Consumer Product Safety Commission
RE: Frigidaire Electric Range Model # FEFL79HSA
Aloha,
I am writing all of you because of a potentially serious problem with my range – and probably many other models with this similar design flaw.
The other day, in the midst of cooking dinner, there was a noticeable spark/ark around the far left hand dual control for the combination burner control. The short caused the circuit breakers for both the oven/range and a separate circuit breaker for the microwave, to both trip. As I mentioned, it was a sizeable spark…
I called Lowe’s extended warrantee service and that proved to be highly ineffective. The service personnel decided, without coming out to the place, to order a new switch and new burners. In the mean time, I knew I was going to have to prepare the stove to allow them access. So I turned off the power, pulled out the stove, cleaned around and underneath it, and decided to see if I could use any parts of the unit while waiting on the repair. By removing the back cover, I could see in a moment what had really happened. One of the ‘burner on’ indicator lamps had fallen off its post and simply shorted out against the side of the stove. The combination switch was still good and the even the indicator light which had caused the short was still working. So I called the repair people and told them that the only parts I needed were the six little plastic lenses that the indicator lamps clip on to and show when a burner is on. Amazingly enough, Lowe’s warrantee service will not cover the cost of these parts… But that’s another story.
Look, obviously, the little plastic ‘lenses’ get old and fail. If it’s happening to me, then it’s happening to many others as well. Mine just shorted out a couple circuit breakers but that short could cause a hell of a lot more damage in other circumstances.
The plastic lenses are clearly affected by heat so either they need to be replaced with a more heat resistant plastic design or they need to be made out of glass.
Now, since I’ve taken the time to write a nice letter …
Could you please send me a set of six replacement lenses that the indicator lamps clip to??? And if possible, could you make sure they’re more heat resistant?
Sincerely,
[REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Frigidaire FGF 328-electronic ignition/window in door/sealed burner/timer clock stove/range.
On Sathurday we were cooking pizza in a Frigidaire FGF 328 oven. 20 minutes after we turned off the oven we sensed a awful burning smell wich caused us to start coughing and irritated our eyes and nose. Ten minutes later we sensed it was coming from the oven and saw smoke coming out from under the burner plates. It grew steadily larger and then we decided to open the top of the stove wich had the burners and saw that the insulation was burning. We opened all the windows and doors to ventilate our apartment. We poured water on the insulation to stop it from catching fire, but in 15 minutes it started to burn again. I have two children, one 2 year old and one 11 year old witch were also present at the incident. The horrible smell still lingers and we cannot use the stove/oven.
