The product, in the report: Gas cooktop
I have a dangerous gas cooktop stove. It came new with a new home 2 years ago. On 3 occasions I have accidentally bumped a control knob and it turned slightly releasing gas into the home but did not ignite the burner. This happened with more than one burner. I later smell the gas filling the home, saw the control knob slightly turned, and ran to turn the knob off.
Can you help?

The product, in the report: Gas Range
I recently purchased a gas range. while cleaning the floor around the sides, I noticed a metal bar running the length of each side. The edges on this bar are razor sharp. On three separate occasions I have cut mt fingers on this bar. In the spring, I sent a complaint letter to Whirlpool. I received an automated response saying someone would contact me within a couple days. No one did. On Sept 23, I sent another email repeating what was said in the first. Same response. Same result. I believe this metal bar poses a severe and serious safety concern and should be addressed and fixed.

The product, in the report: Typical 4-burner natural gas-fired residential range.
I placed a pot of beans on our gas range to cook. A few minutes later, I heard a sizzling noise for a few seconds followed by silence. When I checked, the pot had boiled over but had stopped--the overflow extinguished the burner. This released natural gas into the kitchen. Had I not been paying attention, gas could have easily accumulated to high, possibly flammable levels. This is NOT the first time this has happened; my wife has had similar experiences in the past.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool gold series range 30” slide in black and stainless steel
The plastic stove knobs break too easily causing possibly unsafe conditions. When they break it is hard to tell if the gas gets shut off completely. We have replaced several of them already on our own and they are breaking again less than a year from replacing them. We are worried about this continuing and possibly resulting in not getting the gas shut off properly. We contacted whirlpool with this safety concern and they said there’s nothing they can do because it’s past the warranty period.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool natural gas oven range; four burner stove top with conventional oven; black and silver
Exploding outer glass on oven door- Used oven to roast veggies at 425 F for 20 minutes and then removed items and turned off oven. About 30 minutes later, opened door to put baking pans back in for storage. Door was opened to about a 45 degree when it felt like the door handle pulled out of the door slightly and the glass shattered and projected out, forcefully, towards the floor. While on the floor, the glass continued to “pop” and fracture into smaller pieces which were being projected around the kitchen for about 20 minutes. I received several very small cuts on my hands, from where they were holding the oven handle, but had sneakers and pants on and avoided more serious injury. My two small dogs were lying on the floor a few feet away and were covered in glass shards during this incident. While cleaning up the glass, I noted, that, in addition to appropriate safety glass-sized “crumbles” there was a fine glass powder and a ton of tiny shards and slivers. While conducting a kitchen rescue mission of the dogs, tiny particles of glass got into the skin on my hands and are causing irritation. Oven and had previously been in good condition with no prior assassination attempts.

Stove knobs cause stove flame to ignite or GAS escapes when your just cleaning the stove or get to close to the stove and barely touching stove. This is a Harvard.

First aid Made Jul 6, 2022, sent to the company Aug 4, 2022, published by CPSC Aug 18, 2022
The product, in the report: built-in, gas range (no oven included)
7/4/2022: The consumer placed a small frying pan on the front burner. The pan was on medium heat, for a few minutes, but when she turned the burner off, she burned her hand. She placed her hand under cold water and did not need any further medical treat
7/5/2022: The consumer prepared to use the range yesterday and found that part of the control knob was melted.
The control knobs are on top of the range, where the burners are located in the cooking area. Therefore, the burners are approximately 1” from the cooking grate burners. When one places a pan on the grates, the heat from the pan impacts the burners.
7/5/2022: The consumer called the manufacturer and reported the issue to their rep (name unknown). That rep. made arrangements for a technician to come out ot her home. However, the consumer told the rep. that there is nothing a technician can do. This is a poor and unsafe design.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool gas range
Gas burners came on when bumped. Contacted Whirlpool and they said to take the knobs off if you don’t want them to come on if bumped. There is no fail safe (push down and turn, etc) on this product. Risk of death. Mfg date and incident date are estimates. We have had this stove since our home purchase November 2017 and has happened multiple times.

No one hurt Made Jun 27, 2022, sent to the company Jul 25, 2022, published by CPSC Aug 8, 2022
The product, in the report: Whirlpool Gas Stove Range model WFG110AVQ0, white, 30 inch free standing.
1. Whirlpool gas range has a faulty design, inadequate connection, and unsafe venturi tube (surface burner orifice) that is a safety hazard. I replaced the venturi tubes three times and the cost for replacements has cost me approximately the same as the entire gas range. Whirlpool was apathetic and offered no resolution. I want Whirlpool to replace the gas range with a safe model. The model I have the issue with is Whirlpool Gas Stove Range WFG110AVQ0; There are complaints from others on other models.
2. Whirlpool Gas Stove Range model WFG110AVQ0 and replacement venturi tubes that remain on the market although they are faulty, inadequate, and unsafe.
3. The tenant in the house was using the gas range. Unaware of the continued faulty design, I used the product, cleaning it before a new tenant moved in. The replacement tubes broke in a second incident. The replacement tubes broke in a third incident.
4. The product was used in normal cooking mode. Lifting the stove top caused the venturi tubes to break. Once broken, the tenant tried to light the stove manually creating a huge flame and safety hazard. I had the venturi tubes replaced. The issue happened again. I was able to duplicate the flame issue and smelled gas from the leaking venturi tubes. When the venturi tubes broke a third time, I realized that a complaint had to be filed.
5. There were no injuries. However, a serious burn or fire, maybe even an explosion and serious injury or death could have resulted from the faulty design, inadequate connection, and unsafe venturi tubes. Most persons would lift the top to clean. There is no warning that lifting the stove top will break the venturi tubes. Once broken, the user might not know unless the break keeps the gas from reaches the broiler, preventing ignition.
I researched and found out there are many complaints about the same venturi tube issues. I read minutes/notes on meetings between CSPC and Whirlpool representatives. There are no reports or acknowledgement of the gas range venturi tube issues at the meeting postings on the CPSC website or news articles that I found on websites. Whirlpool seems to be in denial and laud themselves on recall effectiveness (per meeting minutes posted on the CPSC website). This might be because they don’t adequately report complaints made to the Whirlpool customer service lines and seem oblivious to the complaints readily accessible on [REDACTED] and some parts vendor sites, such as [REDACTED].
The fox guards the hen house with Whirlpool representatives in key roles with Association of Home?Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM); and as recently as November 2020, such key persons received Product Safety and Regulatory Affairs awards from the AHAM.
I read other consumer complaints about inability to get through to Whirlpool or to get a resolution of their issues.
6. The injury is to the finances and lost time and energy in replacing the parts, researching the issue, and possibly the loss of a tenant, and loss of peace of mind since Whirlpool is a major supplier of parts/appliances. The replacement part is now about 100 dollars. Whirlpool needs to redesign the part, the connection, and recall the gas ranges withy the faulty design.

The product, in the report: Gas Range Wirlpool WFG540HOES1
This concerns a major hazard that could result in serious injury or (in the case of a child) could cause death. The product that had the safety failure is a Whirlpool gas range, Model WFG540HOES1, Ser # R70635214. On April 14, 2022 at approx. 9:30 PM we were using the oven in a standard way. The oven was purchased at Home Depot in June 2017. The oven had been in use for less than 45 minutes, and was at approximately 450°F when the failure occurred. My girlfriend and I were cooking, and she opened the oven door to check on the food. She was standing in front of the oven, and I was standing to the side. As she pulled open the door the handle on the right side came completely loose. Fortunately, she stepped back. At that point I could see the handle was loose, and I held the other side of the handle. Immediately, this side also broke entirely free and the hot glass part of the door came slamming to the ground. It missed her leg by only inches, and the hot oven door would have likewise fallen on my foot except the very hottest edge hit the floor as my foot was under the angle between the door and the oven. Considering the force and the heat of the door this would have very likely caused injury to either her leg or my foot. If a child had been underneath the oven, the consequences would be even more severe. I photographed the broken plastic (it was NOT a loose part or screw but a structural failure).

I purchased a WFG320M0BS Whirlpool Gas Oven range in April of 2019. Since then, the stainless metal facade that holds the oven door together has detached The part is held in place to the glass with double sided tape which predictably fails. 2 screws keep the facade attached at the bottom of the oven door, removing these screws means the glass falls off the oven door. We are left with a metal facade hanging from the oven in our kitchen at the eye level of our small children. One of our toddlers was scratched when it detached as she was passing bye. It is a matter of time before someones child gets cut bad or looses an eye with this poorly made product.

The product, in the report: gas cooktop
The consumer called the manufacturer and reported the problem to their rep. (name unknown). The rep. said that the issue of the burner not turning off, is a safety issue, and arranged for an authorized technician from Flamingo service company, Tel: 877-560-8485, to come out and inspect the range, on 1/26/2022.
The consumer said this could present a gas inhalation hazard or a fire hazard. The consumer has also experienced problems with the pilot light (center burner) not lighting properly. Since he moved into the home, he has used a multi-purpose lighter, to ignite the flame on that burner, and has done so without injury.
He reported that burner issue to the manufacturer several times and was always told this is an old range and it’s out of warranty. There is only a 1 year manufacturer’s warranty for the product.
The consumer said that the part, which could have been made with steel is a spring, to turn the burner/pilot off and on. He inspected the range and the metal that is hooked on the slit for the valve, has deteriorated. Therefore, that part no longer has the ability to go through the slit and turn the burner off. The range was in the home, when he moved in, so he is unsure where it was purchased from or if that issue had ever been addressed/reported to the mfr.
The gas company technician also turned off his oven, when they came out. However, he has never had a problem with the oven.
To fix the valve, Flamingo asked for $500.00+, almost price of a new electric stove. So, consumer dismantled the cooktop screw by screw. Pilot wire was broken. Stove removed. Company refused replacement.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool Gas Stove
Whirlpool Gas Stove will allow gas to escape with the burner not lit. If the control knob is bumped and moves to the side, in the on position, the gas will escape with the burner not being lit. This has happened multiple times and usually is not caught until there is a strong odor of gas in the room. Reported it to Whirlpool and they sent a third party repair person who looked at our stove and contacted Whirlpool to see if anything could be done. Whirlpool said they do not have stronger springs or controls that would correct this. This has happened multiple times and others I know who have Whirlpool Gas Stoves have had the same thing occur.

I have a Whirlpool gas oven range model WGG745S0FS. The knobs on my gas range dont need to be pushed in to be turned on. Just bumping them will turn them on. My husband warmed up chicken in the microwave (which is above it) and bumped the knob turning it on slightly not realizing it. He warmed up his chicken, went to the room for a couple hours and then went to sleep leaving the gas on all night. I got home to my whole house smelling of gas. It had been on for approximately 14hrs before I came home from being out of town and turned it off. My husband was still asleep at the time. It has always turned on easily but I always turn it off. I was not home and this was too much of a close call! We had painters over recently and they bumped the stove turning it on 4 times, 2 of which burned the plastic that was covering it.

We have a Whirlpool gas range cooker (model WEG730H0DS0) . Gas on range top has no safety cut out. Gas has been accidentally turned on on multiple instances. If we hadn’t noticed the gas was on on these occasions, it would have continued to leak gas into the kitchen. On one occasion, I accidentally caught the dial for the range top on my way out if the house. My spouse was home at the time, but in a different room. When they entered the kitchen, they immediately noticed the very strong smell of gas and ventilated the space. Had they not noticed, or had they not been home, this could have led to a significant accident. We now have to check the range top dials regularly to ensure they haven’t been accidentally turned on.

The product, in the report: Propane Gas Cooktop (5 Burners)
We had a recent incident with our Whirlpool model #WCG97US6DSOO Gas Cooktop that could have killed us. Our dog accidently turned the knob to one of the burners to a position where the gas was coming out, but the ignitor did not light the burner. We only discovered it after smelling gas throughout the house. Luckily, we vented the gas and no injuries were sustained. Once the gas had dissipated, I tried the burners and found that the control valves to all 5 burners could be turned on in such a way that the gas comes out, but the burners do NOT ignite. This is a very dangerous defect that I reported to Whirlpool customer service, but I was told that the valves were designed to operate that way, and that no repairs were required. I can’t believe that any manufacturer would not take this seriously, as the results could be catastrophic.

What I believe (not 100% certain) is happening is we are somehow brushing up against the front of it and it is inadvertently turning on one of the front knobs slightly. I did a web search and I see others are reporting this issue. The front knobs for the top part are very easy to turn and require little effort to push them in.

On 9/08/2020, the outer glass on my Whirlpool oven door exploded/shattered for no discernable reason. Glass flew everywhere, and it was lucky that no children were nearby when it happened and I was across the room, so I was not injured. The oven is only three and a half years old and there were no cracks or abrasions in the glass before this happened or any indication that there was an issue with the oven. My husband and I only use the oven once or twice a week (even less in the summer) and have never had problems with it before.
I feel that randomly exploding oven glass is a safety risk, especially for children or pets that may be eye level with the oven.

The product, in the report: Free-standing gas range
This is about gas range Whirlpool wfg510S0aw.
The issue was that the oven would not light up in a random fashion. Upon troubleshooting, it appears that the ignition wire was not properly insulated (see attached photo). When we stored a baking sheet inside the drawer, it would sometime connect with the un-insulated wire and the frame, thus causing a short circuit, thus preventing the oven from lighting up.
I believe that it’s a safety issue, because the oven should light up all the time and not release un-ignited propane. There is a safety mechanism that cuts off the gas when the oven fails to light up, but I would opine that the appliance should not rely on that safety mechanism.
In addition, I do not believe that the internals of the appliance (see attached photo) should be accessible to the consumer during normal operations
I would suggest two changes: 1) I would have QA make sure that the wires are properly insulated
2) I would have the internals of the appliance inaccessible by consumers. If that is a manufacturing defect (missing panel), I would have QA insure that the panel is present. If by design there is no protection panel, then I would recall the entire line of product.

We have a Whirlpool Gas Oven/Range, model WFG525S0HV0. We had a previous Whirlpool oven that had a lockout which shut off the gas to both the oven and the cooktop. This model only locks out the oven and does not lock out the cooktop. To ignite the burners, you have to push in the knobs and turn them.
We have had two instances where the gas was inadvertently turned on and did not ignite when my wife was reaching into the microwave that is installed above the gas range.
The first time we noticed the problem quickly and just shut off the gas.
The other night this occurred and we did not notice it for several hours, and when I went into the kitchen it was full of gas.
I’m amazed that this is so easy to happen and that Whirlpool does not see this as an issue.
We did try to put a review on the Whirlpool website for the oven, and also on the website where we bought this item, but both have removed the review.
Our purpose was to alert others of this dangerous situation.

The product, in the report: Gas Stove
Whirlpool Range - Model WEG745H0FH - SERIAL #R64010383 The knobs on my Whirlpool gas range do not click into a locked off position. The slightest bump can accidentally turn on the gas without igniting a flame. The stove was purchased in December of 2016, and though there have only been about four instances of this happening to us, today’s Incident was the most alarming. My husband left for work before 7AM, and apparently bumped one of the range knobs while packing his lunch. I woke around 10:30 to a very strong propane odor. I went straight to the stove and turned the knob off. The entire house was filled with the odor, the gas being nicely distributed for hours by both upstairs and downstairs central air conditioners. After airing out the house, I called Whirlpool to see if they had any solution for this issue, since I think it’s a dangerous design flaw and I cannot believe I am the only one having this issue. The rep checked for recalls, found none (even though I’ve read that LG did a recall for this very same thing), and recommended I purchase knob covers - which I believe are child safety covers. I will look into doing that, but I worry about the potential danger to all consumers with this type of stove knob.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool Model WEG750H0HZ Gas Range
I recently purchased a Whirlpool Gas Range (Model Number WEG750H0HZ) which uses a touch screen to activate the oven. The screen easily gets dirty from the stove top use and needs to be cleaned often. I set the touchscreen to lock mode so I could wipe over the buttons, as it is intended to use. However, to remove the locked mode you simply swipe upward and as such my cleaning the screen almost immediately unlocked the screen and set the broiler to 500 degrees.
This is incredibly dangerous to be able to active an oven simply by wiping a screen when it is supposed to be in a locked mode. Having only to swipe up to unlock the screen is something a 3 year old child could do. A child can literally start the oven by swiping up then pressing whatever button they want.
I have read multiple other public reviews on the touch screen activating the oven when it was not intended, such as a few drops of water landing on it. In this instance, it nearly caused a fire at 5 am. There are other people who also put the screen in locked mode so they could wipe it down and the motion of wiping unlocked it and started the oven.

The product, in the report: Double oven Range with burner controls on the front of the range
Burner controls are on the front of the stove and if you lean against the stove you can turn on the burners. Some times the you can hear the igniter try to, or ignite the burner. If the knob doesn’t quite reach the switch to start the sparking the valve will allow gas to come out of the burner without being light. I had this happen and the gas released was small enough that I didn’t hear it hissing and I had left the kitchen. A few minutes later I went back into the kitchen and smelled the gas. Shut off the burner right away. I have had this before (luckily I heard the igniter come on and shut the knobs off. This has happened a few times, but this is the first time it let out gas without me knowing it. To turn on the burners you have to push the knob in slightly then turn it.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool gas range - model WFG320M0BS Black and stainless steel with cast iron grates
We bought a new Whirlpool stove (WFG320M0BS) a couple of weeks ago. The first time I heated up the stove, I realized that the outside gets very hot to the touch. I could barely turn the temperature down as the display was ridiculously hot. The right side of the stove was especially hot, which I was told today is where the vent is. Luckily I have no injuries to report, however I do have an 11 month old baby and another on the way. This stove would be completely unsafe to use when small children are nearby. I’m told by a tech that this is ‘normal’ - but I’ve used at least a dozen stoves in my life and I’ve never experienced something like this. If they are allowed to sell a stove that gets THAT hot, they should at least have to include a warning label of some sort.
No one at whirlpool or at the tech company would tell me what the ‘standard’ external temperature is supposed to be, but they tested it and said it’s operating within the legal limits.I find this ‘standard’ completely unacceptable. I can’t imagine what continued use of this stove would do to our walls and cabinets, it’s obviously not AT ALL energy efficient, and I don’t dare use it with kids around. I worry even that an adult could touch the display or surrounding area and easily be injured.
I have no idea what to do with this, it’s a brand new stove which I can’t return due to store policy, whirlpool won’t do anything about it, and I can’t safely use it... Really bummed and don’t have money to just throw around on yet another stove that may or may not get ridiculously hot... it’s not like they let you test them in store.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool Gas Range
My name is [REDACTED]. I purchased a newly constructed home at [REDACTED] on December 27, 2017 from Pulte Builders. Pulte installed a Whirlpool Gas Range in my home. I have, on at least 6 occasions, experienced the inadvertent turning on of a stovetop gas burner, emitting gas without a flame. the most recent incident was September 1, 2019. While stirring eggs on a back burner, I accidentally brushed up against one of the front mounted knobs and very slightly turned on the front burner enough to emit gas but not activating the “clicker” needed to activate a flame. I noticed it when I smelled gas. So in other words, gas was coming from front burner with no flame, while flame on back burner was lit. Very dangerous situation. I have several neighbors who have experienced the same thing. One neighbor who was out of town for 3 weeks, and gas was discovered by friend who came by to check the house. The firemen said it would probably be about another day and the home would have exploded. Another neighbor accidentally turned on one of her burners without a flame and only realized it when someone came to her door and smelled gas the minute the door was opened. I consider it will only be a matter of time before this causes a fire, or worse and explosion.

I own an Whirlpool Accubake gas stove+oven (model # WFG361LVS 2 serial number R11132580). I want to report that the 4 gas stove knobs turn way too easily and I think it is a big safety concern. It is the second time that we realize that the gas was accidentally turned on in our Unit. A simple limited accidental contact of the body against the knob can rotate it and silently turn the gas on. I think this is very dangerous. In one of the two events, the gas was on during the whole night and we realized it only in the morning, fortunately that day the windows were opened. Our neighbors have the same stove (both units were provided with the same stove when the townhouse was built) and a similar event happened (firemen had to be called because of a strong smell of gas). I did not find a recall for this model, and I don’t know if there are specific regulations about the gas stoves knobs but given how dangerous gas is I think american houses should be more protected.

The product, in the report: 5.1 cu. ft. Freestanding Gas Range with Five Burners, Color: Black-on-Stainless,
This is a gas oven, we had the local propane company plumb in the pipe and attach the manufacturer required LP gas conversion kit. I used the oven; had it set at 350*. When I was done, I pushed the ‘cancel’ button to turn it off. I heard a pop and didn’t associate it with anything. About 10 minutes later, all of my fire alarms went off. I didn’t know what the cause was. My boyfriend walked in the kitchen and noticed the oven was still on and was incredibly hot, and noticed a weird burning smell. We couldn’t turn the oven off. He flipped the breaker, and the oven turned off. When he switched the breaker back on, the oven lit itself. We turned the breaker off, pulled out the stove, turned the gas shutoff to closed, and unplugged the oven. We noticed a black spot on the wall behind the oven. We looked closer at the oven where it matched the black spot, and noticed a wire that was pinched between the metal cover and the back of the oven. We removed the metal cover and saw the wire had been cut by the cover. There was a wiring harness on the wire, and it was black as well. The wire was cut, and had caused the wires to burn. My floor is melted underneath the stove from the excessive heat from the oven not turning off.

We have experienced on several occasions that the burner on the stove is on. Now it doesn’t always have a flame, so we have always managed to see it or smell the gas and turn it off. Today a lady came to our house, and when I opened the door, she said “Oh your house smells like gas”. I am not able to smell things so of course I could not smell it. My wife was getting ready in the bathroom and she didn’t smell it. We aired out our house and called the gas company. They came out to check it for us. No leaks. He could see how easy it was to turn on the burner without hands. My wife had put her breakfast in the microwave above the burners and as she took the food out and turned to put on the bar, she was able to turn on two burners from her body touching the burners which are on the front of the stove. My wife is a petite person. It happened so fast that it did not make a clicking noise. I would like to add that another neighbor down the street with the same stove, went on vacation. On the 5th day that they were gone, a neighbor smelled gas. She got the key open the door and the house was filled with gas. The Fire Department came out and said another day and the house would have blown up. We feel this is a big safety concern for us and the whole community.

2/2018 Caller is reporting that he is experiencing problems with his gas range. He stated that the burners when turn on does not ignite immediately which causes gas to escape and then ignites with combustion. Caller stated that this incident has been occurring intermittently over a few months.
Caller stated that this gas range has a manufacturer design flaw. He stated that the retailer or manufacturer was not contacted he feels that they would not respond to him. Caller feels that this gas range could cause an explosion and should be recalled.
This range, with its obvious design flaw, was recently purchased - new. 5 gas valves, one for each burner, are located on the face of the unit, all easily within reach of a 3 or 4 year old.
To properly ignite any burner, the user must turn its valve to the ’’ignite’’ position and wait to hear ignition take place. But it is very easy to skip over ’’ignite’’ and have the valve land in the ’’High’’ position before ignition takes place. If this happens, gas will never ignite, but will continue to flow at maximum volume from the burner until the valve is turned to the ’’ignite’’ position (perhaps causing an explosion) or through ’’ignite’’ to ’’off ’. Which may not be until there has been an injury or death This range should be recalled asap.

The knobs on this stove are located on the front of this unit. If you reach up to get to a microwave located above the stove or a cabinet to the side of the stove It is very easy to engage the knob enough for it to turn on the gas. It doesn’t make the clicking noise to warn you that you have turned on the burner. Gas leaks and you have no idea you turned the burner on. This has happened over 4 times to different people in my household. The last time it happened was at night before going to bed and the gas was leaking for over an hour. I awoke to the smell and had to get everyone out in an emergency. When I called Whirlpool they said it was a ADA stove. This stove is being sold to the public through LOWES. When I bought my stove Lowes did not tell me this or advertise it to be for ADA. I went to Lowes to let them know what happened and they said to call whirlpool. will It will take killing someone to get this fixed? They could change the knob design or put an option to lock the knobs out like they do for the oven display on the top of the stove.

The Representative was shrewd on the phone when I explained what happened. Next tine I called & they informed me that the Fire Department aren’t qualified to do CO readings nor are they trained to do that. I have a recorded phone call w/ Whirlpool. They are informing me that the C.O. meter has to come from their office & then sent to [REDACTED] in order to do the reading. I have 2 children & a disabled spouse and not a working stove. There is no way to heat water up & no way to cook meals within our home. [REDACTED] Fire Department goes Through extensive, qualified, certified training in carbon monoxide & other hazard chemicals. This is their specialty. Whirlpool is refusing to take the responsibility ensuring resolve a problem. Carbon monoxide is a silent killer & is to be taken very serious. Before contacting your company, I contacted Whirlpool & a Rep was shrewd & I found out that they state I had refused service. Which isn’t true. And yes it did kill 2 of my birds that the cage was within the room where the stove is located. I have a opened kitchen/dining room combined area.
Please respond with an email so I can send a copy to the Fire Department and the recorded phone conversation. My email is [REDACTED] I don’t have anything against them but they are passing the buck & dragging it out I also know this is a second issue with this stove & I feel it’s a safety concern. Like I stated, I have 2 children, & a disabled veteran spouse and have NO Way to cook meals for anyone in the household. It has been almost a month & Whirlpool is refusing to resolve the matter & they are anticipating that if they don’t respond that his matter will just vanish away. At this point I would like another stove if they aren’t going to back their word up! Thank you, [REDACTED]
P.S. Please provide a fax & email so I can send the fire department report & recorded phone conversation.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool Gold oven SuperCapacity 465, Serial number RL1018420
Whirlpool Gold oven [manufactured / home built around 2001/2002] was used early in the day Feb 21, 2019 to cook chicken at 350 degrees F, was turned off by me when done. After I left home at 2:30pm that same day, the oven turned itself on [no one home], created intense heat, and was likely minutes away from starting a kitchen fire when I got home. I left home at 2:30pm to teach 2 lessons [my job], arrived home at appx 4:05pm to my home filled with smoke, chemical stench, and the oven blazing hot, the broiler coils lava red, and smoke coming out of the oven. The house was filled with a fine smoke and irritating smell that caused coughing for several hours. The oven had turned itself on while I was away, and was heating to what I estimate to be over 1000 degrees F. The oven showed self-cleaning mode and ‘locked’. However, the door was unlocked, smoke was coming out and singed the top of the oven door, and WOULD NOT TURN OFF! I tried several times with the off button, the temp button to lower the temp, but it would not turn off. Talked with a friend who told me to run to the breaker box and turn off power to the oven/range, which I did. I kept the breaker off, and it is still off. Whirlpool sent a factory technician [Fields Factory Service, Orlando, FL] to check this out. Interior components of oven were severely damaged. When the technician turned on the power to the oven, the oven again turned itself on -- was already warm by the time he made his way into the kitchen, without having touched the oven control panel. Once again, it had turned itself on. He discussed that with Whirlpool, who did not authorize repair [I assume due to the extensive internal damage caused by the malfunction]. The breaker power remains off, and I am trying to resolve with Whirlpool Safety Team. I am fortunate that I came home when I did and that the two pets inside the home were still alive. I firmly believe that the intense heat building in the oven, from the malfunction while I was not home, was minutes away from starting a kitchen fire while I was away. Whirlpool is not cooperating with replacement of the unit as of this writing on March 24.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool stoves/oven, black and grey. I don’t know about buying details because I have rent a room in this house just for three months. I don’t know when the oven was bought.
The Oven in my kitchen has been releasing CO for the last three months. A gas technician came yesterday and detected a CO concentration in the house of 28-30. He stated that it is very dangerous. I have been living in this house since January and my roomates and I many times requested some control mainteinance control since every time we turn the oven on it smells gas so badly. After several requests in the last two months the house company decided to let a maintainance guy for the gas. While he was detecting for gas concentration in the air, he actually revealed high concentration of CO. Unfortunately, my roommate didn’t ask for something official and written to prove that. That’s my concern. In conclusion, my roommates and I have been exposed to CO at least for two months in an indoor space.

The product, in the report: five burner gas range with oven
My Whirlpool gas range has knobs that are so easily turned that I keep having gas leaks in my kitchen. It seems when I put things in my microwave above it or in the cabinets on the side, a slight push begins the gas flow but the igniters don’t click in, probably takes a full 1/2 inch turn for them to start. One time I came home after 45+ minutes and the house was full of gas. Other times I have caught it within 10 mins or so. I have called Whirlpool and was told this is the correct design. They sent out a tech who confirmed this is as engineered.
I feel very fortunate that I have been able to air out the house and realize the situation before anything horrible happens. I presently have masking tape on the knobs, but this seems very serious as a design flaw. I feel nauseated and have headaches each time it happens.

The tempered glass panel on our oven range shattered while the oven was operating. We were baking cookies at 350 degrees when the handle of the oven door broke loose on 1 side. A couple of minutes later as we tried to open the door we heard an explosive “boom” noise and the glass shattered and blew out. Fortunately, nobody was hurt. The entire front glass panel on the oven door was destroyed, but not the inside glass panel of the door. We turned off the oven and waited a few minutes for everything to cool down, and we cleaned up the glass. The oven was only 6 months old.
It is a Whirlpool oven. Standard cleaning gas range. Model# WFG320M0BS3. Serial number VE82131547. It was purchased in June 2018 at Home Depot.
We are reporting this to Home Depot as well. The oven was still under warranty, and there was no indication of a problem until today.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool MODEL WEG750H0HZ0 SERIAL R81811625 SLIDE IN
After my 3rd [REDACTED] gas stove was returned, I did some research and decided to go with a Whirlpool model WEG750H0HZ0 serial R81811625 based on the slide in photo/reviews I read. PC Richards delivered the stove some time mid-February 2018. Here are the problems that I consider a safety issue: 1. Even though you need to “push in SLIGHTLY” to turn the gas jets on, IT IS NOT SAFE ENOUGH! A guest came into my home at 1:30am, went directly into the kitchen to put away or get something from the refrigerator. His duffle bag he was carrying, must have somehow pushed in SLIGHTLY & TURNED 2 knobs as he was walking into the kitchen. NOT enough to hear the click, click ignitor, but enough to let gas escape. My bedroom is 15 feet from the kitchen. My door was ajar only 4”. I woke up at 5am to the ‘SMELL OF GAS’ in my bedroom. I was terrified to go out of my bedroom door because I had a motion light in my hallway, (thinking when the light came on it would cause an explosion). I took the chance and the smell of gas was heavier as I stood up, in the hall, livingroom, kitchen and bathroom. I opened all of the doors, windows and after most was out of the house turned on the ceiling fans. The knobs on ALL gas stoves with ALL manufacturers NEED to be PUSHED IN (just like trying to open a child proof medicine bottle) in order that this does not happen to others.
In addition the engineer who designed the grates for this stove should be FIRED. Using a compass, E.W.N.S. the bars that go from E to W are full or at least 3/4 full. Over the gas jet, there is a N.S. SHORT BAR ONLY 3” in long. This short bar does NOT hold a percolator coffee pot as the base of the pot is about 4” and it “wobbles” over the grate. It is NOT secure. I had accidently bumped the pot (fortunately it was not hot) and knocked it off the front jet. It fell onto the floor, spilling all the coffee, grinds and broke the glass top when it hit the tile floor.
There is absolutely NO reason ON THIS EARTH that I have to spend $5k or $10k to get a “designer” stoves to make sure it works properly!!!! In addition, the manufacturers are screwing the consumers. A typical range is 30” wide. Yet if you want a BIGGER oven, you have to pay more money for it. Yet the SMALLER ovens, cost less, but they have to “build” an inner wall to make the oven smaller, so why does the bigger oven cost more? In addition, each and every stove, most all manufacturers have taken away the ‘big drawer’ at the bottom of the oven and have given you a small 6” space, yet the oven space is the same on all units. I would like to know why the manufacturers like [REDACTED], [REDACTED] and others ARE having issues with their oven temperatures and trying to jamb it down the consumer’s throat to “USE” the convection oven vs the STANDARD oven - why because they know they have a problem with their heating element using the standard oven?

Caller was doing construction in the kitchen and had a drop cloth over the range to protect it from damage. During the work in the kitchen caller says that a fire was started and noticed that the cloth was on fire. Caller says that the burner knobs are very sensitive and sometimes when she bumps into them the stove cuts on. Caller believes that’s how the fire may have started by bumping into the stove on accident.
Product is a fire hazard.

Smell of Natural Gas in the building. 911 called. Using gas detecting equipment the firefighters isolated the source of the gas odor to a condo unit that had a knob for one of the kitchen stove burners that was slightly moved from it’s off position. We have 31 residential units in our complex. Several other residents have experienced the large knobs on their stoves getting bumped while cleaning the stove or using the microwave above the stove and the knob inadvertently being turned on slightly to a point before the igniter spark starts and resulting in gas flowing. This is a extremely hazardous product defect and this product should be recalled immediately before a serious injury or death event occurs.

The product, in the report: 5 Burner Freestanding 5.8 -cu ft self cleaning Convection Gas Range
I purchased a Whirlpool 5 Burner freestanding range from Lowe’s on 5/14/2018. Almost immediately after installation the knobs to control the burners would become hot while the oven was on. Initially, not aware of how hot they could become and I burned my hand multiple time touching the knobs while the stove was on. Eventually the material around the knobs & inside the knob bezels began to warp, peel & crack. On 10/1 I called Lowe’s to report the issue. LOEWS dispatched a technician from [REDACTED] who came out on 10/3 to assess the product. He took pictures of the knobs and bezels and inside the oven but never turned on the oven. He stated he needed to call Whirlpool to get direction on how to proceed. On 10/10 the [REDACTED] tech returned around 7:00 pm and replaced the knobs & bezels and the gasquet around the oven door. Again, he never turned on the oven. The morning of 10/11 I turned on the oven only to find the problem still persisted. I called Whirlpool Safety Dept. to report this and was told the [REDACTED] tech was given instructions to replace the oven door, the gasquet the bezels and the knobs. I called [REDACTED] and was told by [REDACTED] that the tech was not instructed to replace the door. On 10/11 I called Whirlpool again and spoke to 7 different people trying to get resolution only to get different stories from each person. I finally spoke to [REDACTED] who told me that [REDACTED] was no longer one of their contractors and she call [REDACTED] & an appointment was scheduled for the next day, today 10/12. When the tech arrived he turned on the oven and noted it was still heating the outside of the oven including the knobs for the burners but when he learned another company had replaced a part on the stove he refused to do any work. I called Whirlpool Safety Dept again and fortunately got [REDACTED] again who spoke with the tech and said she understood why he could not work on the unit. After a 25 minute hold [REDACTED] returned and said I was to use the unit severely times to help inflate the gasquet which should correct the problems. She recommended I use pot holders if I needed to use the burners while the oven is on. I cook everyday and in the midst of cooking I may not always remember to grab a pot holder thus I am still at risk for continuing to burn my hands and fingers while using a product the manufacturer has told me to go ahead and use, knowing it is unsafe.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool 5.1 cu. ft. Gas Range with Under-Oven Broiler in Stainless Steel
Our Whirlpool gas range came with our home. We purchased it this year, brand new. I was cooking dinner with our oven set to 375 degrees. My son walked by the oven (he is two) and patted the door. He normally walks by, and touches things either saying “hot” or “cold”. This time he screamed. So I touched the glass myself. It was extremely hot. I couldn’t leave my hand there for more than a second. I immediately contacted our contractor who referred me to whirlpool. Whirlpool sent a contractor out today, and according to him, after only having the oven for maybe 15 minutes, it’s normal. He states our door only got 135 degrees “which is well below the UL standard of 180 degrees”. He did not leave the oven long enough because when I felt the door of the temperature he got it too, it was no where near as hot as when my son and I burned our hands. This is clearly dangerous and many people have reported this issue before with this model. Some ovens heat up, while others don’t, so clearly some are defective and whirlpool is doing nothing about it! My brother in law also has this oven, turned it up to 400 and his door stayed cool to warm. He said he could leave his hand sitting on the door no problem.
Another safety issue with this appliance is the easy to open broiler fold down door. Extremely dangerous for both adult and children.

I purchased a gas range from Whirlpool. My prior ranges always had a safety knobs on the front panel. By this, I mean that you had to push on them and then turn knob for ignition. The knobs on this range just turn, so if you rub against them they can turn and ignite. So, if you are attempting to reach a cabinet over the range you may rub the knob which then ignites. I have had several close call which I may have gotten burned. I am lucky that I do not have any young children in the house, as I would definitely have to replace it. Surely, there is something that can be applied to limit ignition.

There is a seriius issue with a whirlpool stove that could lead to the death of a consumer, pets etc if not addressed immediately. I have a stove I purchased in the year 2013. I have had to replace the main computer board once already due to the board melting from heat caused by an oven vent located directly under the electronic control panel. Due to excessive heat, melting and cracking the computer has the potential to not turn off an oven or even turn it on due to the damaged control panel. Although my control panel has yet to malfunction the possibility is beyond a 50/50 chance

The product, in the report: Gas stove and double oven combination
I purchased a Whirlpool Gas Range (model WGG745SOFS02: serial # D72317056) on or about July 15, 2017. The locks that require the burner knob to be pushed inward prior to turning on do not work effectively. The gas has been turned on by my people walking past the stove brushing against it . Every gas stove I have had prior to this model required deliberate action to push in the knob and turn it. I have never before had a knob turn accidentally. There have been several occasions we did not notice the knob had been turned until we smelled gas. My wife has found comments in reviews of the item with the same complaint. Whirlpool tells me that this is not a common complaint and there is no known repair. We have had issues with this in the year that we’ve owned the range.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool Gold Series Gas Range Model # WFG715H0ES0
In December of 2016 our family received emergency medical attention due to carbon monoxide poisoning as a result of high wind back draft in the wood stove that had been properly installed according to manufacturer instructions in our home. The readings near the stove were over 400 ppm the day we got sick according to the local fire department’s instruments who had responded to our call. That prompted a friend to lend us a professional grade carbon monoxide detector made by [REDACTED], so we could monitor the levels with detailed accuracy and find a solution to the problem. As a result of having this detector in our house we discovered that the LP gas oven range we bought in January of 2016, a Whirlpool Gold Series model WFG715H0ES0, was emitting carbon monoxide. The CO level was measured at 9 ppm on a day that we did not have the wood stove burning. From that point on, we monitored the levels when we turned the oven on. The levels reach their highest point when we operate the oven in the 350-400 degree range, the most common baking temperature. The levels will jump up to the 70-80 ppm during the initial heat up and level off at about 17- 23 ppm. We contacted the store where we purchased the range from and Whirlpool gave them their own calibrated carbon monoxide detector to test the oven. However, the test was very controlled and not based on normal use. The oven was placed on 500 degrees and their detector was then used. It was never tested at the 350-400 degree Fahrenheit range where the problem was most pronounced. We operate our oven nearly everyday for at least 2-3 hours, depending on what I am making. We must open our windows every time we turn on our oven to get below the 20+ ppm range regardless of the season, which wastes our heat in winter and cool air in summer. We can start feeling the effects of the CO when it reaches 8 ppm, the symptoms include headache, nausea, light-headedness, lack of concentration, and drowsiness. Whirlpool made no offer to amend the situation and they stated by phone that carbon monoxide level from our oven is safe until it reaches 800 parts per million. We know from experience that the ill effects of CO begin to occur long before that and respected medical studies show the same. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), exposure should be no more than 26.1 ppm for 1 hour or 8.8 ppm for 8 hours. It’s been over a year since the repair man was here to test the stove and it has increasingly gotten worse. The repair man suggested we either buy a new range or vent the oven. At the time, the oven range was only a year old and we paid $900 for it and because the oven range is not on an outside wall, venting would be just as costly as a new oven, not to mention the modifications we would have to do to our kitchen. I grew up with a natural gas range and have had them most of my life, and I am in my 40’s and I have not ever experienced this kind of issue. My mother still has the same oven we had growing up and a gas cook top, but we do not experience ill health when visiting her. Thank you in advance for looking into this matter for our safety and the the safety of other families who are unlikely to be aware of the hazard present in this and similar models of gas oven ranges from this manufacturer.
Sincerely,
[REDACTED]

On June 11th, 2018 this caller was cooking soup and had been cooking it for approximately four hours when she began feeling suicidal. She took the soup off the stove and placed it in the sink with ice around it so that she could call the suicide hotline. Then her smoke alarm went off & told her to call 911 She called 911 who sent emergency responders to her home and tested the air which tested at 49% carbon monoxide at which time she was taken by ambulance to Porter Hospital in Middlebury, VT 05753. She said that as she faces the stove the burner is on her right and the burner itself has melted. She was diagnosed with carbon monoxide poisoning and placed on oxygen then after about an hour to an hour and a half later, blood samples read that he blood level had improved she was released from the hospital to go home. The gas company has come to her home, turned the gas off and unplugged her stove rendering it unusable. She is seeking a new stove from the manufacturer due to this one being purchased only two years from an Essex Junction, Vermont retailer. 9 months after the purchase on Sept of 2017, the gas company replaced the right front burner because it had partially melted.

I was boiling a pot of noodles on the front right burner. I stirred the pot, and the gentle force of pushing the spoon through the water was enough to push the surface cooking grate forward, causing it to slip down into the burner area. This sudden change in angle of the cooking surface was enough to cause the pot to topple towards me. It fell to the floor, dumping boiling water. I was thankfully able to jump away in time to avoid injury, but had I been any slower it would have been serious burns all over the fronts of my legs and my feet.
The surface grates are held in place by small indentations in the cook top, which bumpers on the legs of the grates settle into. These indentations are not nearly deep enough to do their job sufficiently. (This is not the first time one has slipped, but it is the first time that it caused an actual spill.)

We purchased a Whirlpool double oven Model #WGG745S0FS02 in October. We have a major concern. If the control knobs are slightly bumped they turn on! It DOES NOT click or give any notice that it has been turned on....so gas fills the house, until you smell it!! I have contacted Whirlpool & they suggested to schedule a service call. I went on the website to look at reviews & others have noted this problem. The last time this happened we had 40 guests in our basement & it wasn’t until someone went upstairs that we realized 2 burners had been bumped on. This has happened 4 times. This is a huge safety issue and is totally being ignored. Thanks in advance for your help.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool Cooktop (Model WCG97USODSOO, Serial# D73609768)
Here is my email to Whirlpool: Hi [REDACTED]
We had a technician come out to take a look at the cooktop. As I suspected, there wasn’t anything “broken” with the unit. I asked if there were any service reports. He checked and said there were not. As I had mentioned previously, we purchased a, builder installed, Whirlpool Cooktop (Model WCG97USODSOO, Serial # D73609768) with our new town home 3 months ago. The issue is that the gas can inadvertently be turned on (without the ignitor lighting it) just be cleaning/wiping the oven knob area. It has happened twice in 3 months since we’ve been here. Just for comparison, we had a gas cooktop at our previous home and we didn’t encounter this issue in 20 years. The difference between the 2 cooktops is that our previous cooktop required just a little more downward force in order to turn the knob. Fortunately, both times someone smelled gas and turned it off before we had a real problem. The second time it occurred, I just happened to stay up late rather that going to bed with my wife. If I had gone to bed, the gas would have flowed until one of us smelled it or it exploded.

The product, in the report: LP Gas Range made by Whirlpool
I purchased a Whirlpool gas range 1/4/2018. This model has 2 power burners, one medium burner and one simmer burner. Both of the power burners are on the front of the stove.
Even on low, the power burners are too high to be able to stir the pot that is on the burner, or add anything to the pot as it is cooking. And there is not any way to reach over them to get to pans on the back of the stove, which is where the medium and simmer burners are. With a 1 qt pan, you can see the flames licking around the edges of the pan, a 1.5 qt still shows tips of flames.
And the flames are so hot that you can put your pot on to cook hamburger, and by time you walk to frig to get onions to add to the hamburger? It is already sticking to pan and is set on low.
Another problem is that the grates over each of the burners, has a cross over it, instead of solid bars to securely set the pot on. Using the 1 qt pan, means pan will easily tip either towards the front or the back of the burner. Even the larger pans still wobble. And the 2 grates are so heavy you have to lift with 2 hands when you are older and your wrists hurt. You cannot clean the stovetop without those being completely removed from the stove either.
Today, 1/20/18 I was cooking pan of hamburger for spaghetti, and went to cut up green pepper into the pan to cook with the meat, and my right wrist and forearm started stinging like when you have sunburn, and I had my hands well above the pan too. Even angling down with elbows at chest level, I still got too much heat, and it became uncomfortable.
I put something on arm to soothe the burning feeling. And it is not deep, so not saying that, it is just like when you get too much sun, but have not started turning red yet.

We bought a home that came with a new whirlpool propane oven. Model wfg320mobso serial number ve64431305. When the oven is on the outer side surfaces get very hot to the point that you can’t place your hand on the surface. We had a tech come out to fix some burner problems and to also look at the outer surfaces when the oven is on. I put the oven at 450 for about 15 minutes and he, using a digital infrared thermometer, got a high reading of 172 degrees on the left side outer surface of the oven. This is a major concern for us as the oven sits in between wooden cabinets and the surface is just very hot to the touch. I spoke to whirlpool and was told that the allowable limit for bare/painted metal surface is between 152 and 194 degrees. This does just not sound right. If the stove was allowed to be 194 degrees that would burn someone upon touching the surface. Whirlpool is not willing to do any more, but I have a hard time believing that even 172 degrees is safe.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool oven/range WFG505M0BS0 Brushed Chrome
I recently purchased a new condo with new appliances. The gas range/oven included is a new Whirlpool model WFG505M0BS0. When using the oven, the ventilation duct heats the back panel of the range to a very hot temperature. I used an infrared thermometer and measured temperatures of 152 degrees F in numerous locations, as well as 194 degrees F in another location.
To clarify, when I refer to the back panel of the range, I mean the panel with the electronic controls and the back of the stove which abuts the wall.
The back panel becomes burning hot with every use, and depending on how long the oven is in use, it becomes hotter and hotter.
Additionally, there are other owners in the condominium who have the same model Whirlpool range and they are experiencing the same thing. We have contacted Whirlpool and they have sent a technician out multiple times, who reports that the oven is working within manufacturers specifications. However, it seems as though this temperature is too hot and within range to cause burns.

We bought the Whirlpool range Model # WEG730HODSO, Serial # R52427789, on 7/24/2015 from Hudson Appliance Center at 454 Pearson Rd Paradise Ca 95969. We had several issues with the the range. The hazard is the front right burner never really lit properly. Hudson sent a repair man to fix it several times. Around the end of December 2016, I noticed the smell of gas in the house. I checked the stove and the burner was emitting gas but was not making the clicking noise that it should. We have noticed that the knob turns to the place that emits gas by just wiping the front of the stove with a sponge. My husband couldn’t smell the gas and just went to bed. I couldn’t help but think that an entire night with gas filling the house could have been life threatening. Hudson sent a rep to investigate and told us that it met their requirements. To me it’s clearly a safety hazard and should at least be investigated.

Potential Fire Hazzard
The whirlpool range gas stove, the knobs turn on very easily, if I reached over the stove, walk by or mistakenly touch the knobs. The knobs touched lightly turned the gas on and I have to turn it off. The knobs touched slightly turns on without the gas unknowingly, caused leaked gas and explosion.
I don’t usually have breakfast, decided to get breakfast, turned on the stove and a very loud band. All I saw was fire completely covered the area where the gas leaked over the entire stove. I was thrown back from shock after the fire cleared. I looked at the knobs and saw that the knob on the right end of the stove was slight turned on, which apparently leaked gas from an unknown time.
I complained to Master’s Limited in Bermuda, where I purchased the stove only 5 months old under warranty, to no avail. The Manager suggest it’s not a defective under warranty, I disagree.
This is a potential fire hazard, I could be dead today had the leaked continued without knowledge and who would have known it was a gas leak?
The knobs have no safety mechanism to prevent turning on. What will happen, if a child mistaken touch the knobs? The results fire or unknown gas leak and an explosion.
How do you prevent this from happening in a resident home, it’s not possible.
Kindly consider product recall, design a safety knob to prevent easily turning on or there’s serious risk for fire and explosions from this unsafe product.
Kind regards.

I have a Whirpool Gas Sealed Burner Cooktop (Model: GLT3057). My wife used the cooktop on Saturday afternoon, July 22, 2017. After she had turned off the burner, the igniter in the cooktop started clicking automatically. She checked the knobs to ensure that they were properly turned to “off,” which they were, however, the igniter continued to click. After about 15 seconds of this, sparks started emitting from one of the igniter knobs and made popping sounds. Then, flames started emitting from the knob. After a few seconds, the flames and sparks stopped, the igniter stopped clicking, and smoke started to rise out of the knob. It also had the smell of burnt plastic. She then immediately turned off the gas to the cooktop, unplugged the electrical component, and haven’t touched it since.

The piezoelectric igniter for the gas burners rus away and will not stop sparking or attempting to light the gas burners on top or cooking surface of the range, even though the knobs or controls are in the off position. Both my wife and I have suffered strong, serious electric shocks from the stove. The units continue to spark for hours. Unplugging the stove to reset the controls does no good. This has been reported to both Best Buy and Whirlpool who sent out a repairman who did not do anything to repair the stove. She stated that she had changed the cleaning time to 2 hours instead of 3 and approximately 1 1/2 hours later she noticed this incident, the heat was extreme to the point the door melted into the oven. She stated that she was able to switch off the power.
The manufacturer was contacted and she was informed that the range was out of warranty, she stated that she informed them that it was not a warranty issue but a safety issue.
Caller feels that this oven is a fire hazard and should be recalled.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool Range, Model Number WFG710H0AH 0 Serial Number R21410291
I bought a Whrilpool Gas Range, Model Number WFG710H0AH 0 Serial Number R21410291. I’ve had had problems with this range since I bought it. The oven won’t light unless you manually light it with a match and even then it will go out and leak gas. Whirlpool has sent out someone to fix the problem about 3 or 4 times, each time they told me it was fixed and each time it would work for a few months then go right back to the same thing. I have been removing the bottom draw and lighting it there, but now it just goes out and still leaks gas.
I’ve told them its a hazard leaking the gas and it not lighting. They didn’t want to send anyone out but I kept insisting and they finally did. The problem has never stopped.
The range is about 4 to 5 years old and barely used due to the gas leak problem.
It seems like our house has to blow up before someone fixes this problem.

The clean oven indicator was touched accidently and unknowingly while setting the clock @ 10:00pm on the 29th April 2017.
At 1:00am on April 30, 2017 the smoke alarm went off and the apartment was filled with smoke.
Also the knobs on the front of the range for the surface burners turn on when a human body accidentally bumps into them. They have already changed once, still very unsafe. No victim just a complaint
Incident information “The self cleaning ’ indicator was obviously accidentally touched at 10PM on 04-30-17 @ 1:00AM our smoke alarm woke us up to a smoke filled home. I could open the door also. This is a serious matter! The oven door was not locked!
My relationship to victim: No victim whirlpool just need to change the design

The product, in the report: Whirlpool Gas range/oven
I purchased this range in Jun of 2014. It worked correctly at first. After using the broiler several times we observed damage to the control panel of the unit. As it was under warranty, we requested a technician to come out. He replaced the control panel. Shortly after the warranty ran out our oven would not light. I had a third party repair company diagnose the problem and fix it. It was a faulty igniter and another part. This “other part” was responsible for a gas smell being emitted from the oven upon lightning. Recently we have observed severe damage to the control panel and I had to argue with Whirlpool to a) not buy their extended warranty and b) not be charged for this repair. They agreed. During the course of the diagnosis by their certified technician the following problems were noted: 1) Control Panel damaged (for the second time) 2) Oven Sensor registered 25 degrees higher than expected and needed to be replaced 3) A related wiring harness damaged by heat that needed to be replaced 4) The convection fan not working. This is being replaced 5) The gas regulator for the stove needs to be replaced for orange flames instead of the standard blue. My dealings with the repair technician were substandard. I was blamed for both the damage to the control panel and the problem with the orange flames. After pointing out flaws in his logic he called Whirlpool in both cases. It turns out there is a known issue with the heat vent which causes the control panel to melt (This was never disclosed to me even after multiple contacts about this very issue). In the case of the orange flame, the stove was not dirty but needed a new gas regulator. Dealings with their customer support have not been much better. They refuse to replace the unit which I believe to be both poorly designed and an out right lemon under the law. I have included pictures of the damage as well as a heat gun indication of the control panel temp AFTER their fix was installed. I believe this unit is dangerous above all else. Please help me rectify this situation with a replacement range.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool Gas Range
The door, temperature control knobs, stove top, and backsplash get extremely hot to touch when in operation. Technician indicated this is common for this oven and advised not to use the cook top and oven at the same time. To reduce the amount of heat being transmitted through the heat vent, the technician advised using a “fan” and the temperature on the stove top registered over 140”F! Concerned about the risk of burns not only for my elderly mother but for children as well as adults.
We bought this oven for my elderly mother in 9/2016 who was not able to use the oven for several months and when she started to use the oven, she felt she almost got burned by the knobs as well as the oven door, and the “backsplash”. Contacted Lowes, as it was still under warranty, who sent out a technician and was advised as above and that the surrounding areas should not get above 130’F but that it was “normal”.
Contacted Whirlpool on 4/19/2017 talked to a “[REDACTED]” and after explaining my concerns, she advised me that she could schedule another technician out to evaluate, but, I would be charged if everything is found normal. Therefore, Whirlpool DOES NOT stand behind their product. No supervisor was available and she was advised that an attorney will be retained if any injury/death occurs due to this appliance and I would hold them accountable. This is an UNSAFE PRODUCT, WFG320M0BW, DO NOT BUY. Better yet, don’t buy any Whirlpool product!
So now, I will have to advise my mother to use “hot pads” whenever she’s using the oven! Along with NOT using the stove top and oven at the same time, and to obtain a “fan” to disseminate the heat produced by the oven! Crazy!!!

The product, in the report: gas range
The consumer’s wife grabbed cereal from the cabinet above the range and sat down to eat. A few moments later the consumer’s wife smelled a strong odor of gas. She noticed that the knob was slightly turned and the burner was emitting gas.
The consumer said they have had 2 similar incidents and do not feel safe using this range. The consumer believes the igniter should come on first and not the gas. The consumer indicated that he contacted Lowes after each incident and they informed him that gas ranges are designed this way. The consumer was referred to the firm and they send out a technician to inspect the range.
A safety inspector with the firm inspected the range and found that the range is operating normal (Report # [REDACTED]). The consumer then contacted the firm and they advised him that they couldn’t assist further and informed him that the range should be attended at all times.
The consumer believes this design is dangerous and there should be a recall. He would like to request a replacement because he does not feel safe using this range.

Regarding Whirlpool Gas Range
Model WFG530S0EB0 Serial # R50610283
The knobs on our gas range can accidentally be turned on unknowingly by merely bumping against the front of the range. Gas will start to fill our kitchen and permeate into the remaining areas of the house because we aren’t aware a knob has been bumped. This happens frequently. The range should have knobs that push in to turn the burners on. The potential for an explosion to occur from a knob being bumped accidentally is great with the design flaw with this appliance.
I contacted the manufacturer and they won’t do anything to fix the problem.
