The product, in the report: Samsung 4 Door French Style Refrigerator, color white, refrigerator on top, freezer on bottom. Ice maker in both compartments. Outside ice and water dispenser and LED display showing settings of refrigerator and freezer areas. Model Model # RFG 298HDWP/XAA

I purchased a Samsung French style 4 door refrigerator. The ice maker in the refrigerator portion started icing up and became non functional in less than 1 year. It was replaced under warranty 1 time but continued to freeze up over and over. Once the ice maker is frozen the refrigerator continues to ice up on the back wall Twin-Cooling system which freezes food against the back of the refrigerator, making it unsafe to consume. Once the back wall is frozen solid the drain freezes up too that forces water and ice under the crisper drawers, which affects the temperature of food stored in the drawers now sitting on an ice flow. When it gets full of water and can hold no more, it flows out onto the floor creating a fall risk. There are numerous Samsung service bulletins out to repair technicians about this know design defect. It is not a warranty issue which consumers hear ad nauseam when requesting assistance for these problems. This affects appliances dating back to at least 2009 and yet Samsung continues to sell the same defective refrigerators to unknowing consumers. The last stage of this flawed product is the ice maker fails in the freezer compartment, then the freezer itself fluctuates temperature regulation, periodically raising enough the contents start to thaw and/or then refreeze - another consumer safety issue. There is an LED display on the outside of the refrigerator that is to reflect the internal temperatures. It is no where close to being accurate as verified by placing thermometers inside the compartments. Another failed safety component, as I have become sick eating food I thought was cooled to a safe edible temperature. Numerous telephone calls, chats online, text message, reports to Better Business Bureau, New Jersey Consumer Affairs, Missouri and New Jersey Attorney Generals and finally the Federal Trade Commission have not address the problem for me, however it seems there are a few lucky people that are getting full refunds of purchase price.

The product, in the report: Samsung French Door Refrigerator model #RF23HTEDBSR/AA, S/N 073943AGB00233N, stainless steel

I bought a Samsung refrigerator (model RF23HTEDBSR/AA in January 2016. I contacted Samsung in 2017 when the ice maker kept freezing up and the refrigerator temperature rose to unsafe food temperature storage (60s). They had repairman replace the ice maker and motherboard. The same thing happened again in 2019 and Samsung again paid for the replacement of ice maker and motherboard. The same issue happened again in May/June 2020. I contacted Samsung and customer service told both my husband and I that the problem could easily be fixed by raising the front legs of the fridge. He send instructions and while on the phone we adjusted the legs as instructed. On July 3, 2020 the same thing happened again. I noticed the digital display was blinking 39 degrees. I [REDACTED] what that meant and it meant the fridge temp was above 59 degrees. We thawed the fridge again and the same problem happened again July 7. Unlike before, I could not get the fridge to go down to a safe food storage temp. On July 10, the freezer started to increase in temperature. Currently the temperature in the fridge is 75 and the freezer is 72. This is unsafe as the digital display does not indicate the actual temperature in the fridge and freezer. As a result, I believe the other night when I got sick, it was from eating something from the fridge that hadn’t been stored at a safe temperature. The same thing happened to my husband the night before.

The product, in the report: Samsung Refrigerator 26 cu ft Stainless Steel French door

We have had constant issues with the ice maker for probably the last six years. There are several issues including: water constantly dripping out of the water/ice maker chute to the floor (laminate floor damage from this now), ice maker CONSTANTLY freezing up (jammed up, completely iced over, not producing ice, etc) , ice randomly falls out of the chute, ice never has been made properly (always partially chopped ice when set on cubes). Not necessarily food safety issues, but definitely major issues. We had also been noticing a lot of condensation and water dripping inside the refrigerator on the back panel. (I don’t recall when we first started noticing this, but it has been quite awhile.) After reading many other complaints online of others having issues with their Samsung units not keeping proper temperatures (too warm), I started to become a bit concerned, especially since we store expensive medical supplies (allergy serum) in it that must be maintained at refrigerated temps. When I arrived home from vacation on July 3, 2020, I found a can of refrigerated biscuits (expiration date of August 2, 2020) had exploded open while we were gone. This led me to believe that there was likely a temperature fluctuation issue and I immediately purchased a thermometer so we could test the internal temperature of the refrigerator. As I suspected, the set temperature and internal (actual) temperatures differ. In fact, the internal temperature is in the ‘danger zone’ for food. This is unacceptable and completely unsafe! Our set temperature is set to 37 F. On July 5, 2020, the internal thermometer recorded the temperature at about 41 F. On July 6, 2020, the thermometer recorded the temperature at 47 F. I have a degree in Food Science and based on my knowledge and years of professional experience, I know this is extremely unsafe! The alleged defect not only renders the refrigerator unusable, but also poses a safety risk to me and my family because it leads to food spoilage and the risk of foodborne illnesses. The risk of illness is further enhanced because this refrigerator is falsely displaying a temperature on the exterior reader (or the setting) that the inside of the fridge is at a standard cool temperature when, in fact, it is not.

The product, in the report: Stainless Steel Samsung French Door refrigerator RF25HMEDBSR/AA

This is in regards to a Samsung French Door refrigerator RF25HMEDBSR/AA which we purchased new and have had ongoing issues with the ice maker and the refrigerator fan both icing over and causing food to spoil. Every few weeks we need to defrost the refrigerator so the fan can be de-iced otherwise our refrigerator temp is well above 40 degrees and our food spoils. Because the ice maker doesn’t function, we had mold growing in there and finally just turned the entire ice maker off.

The product, in the report: Model number RF263BEAESP, store SKU number 375406, stainless steel 24.6 CU French door fridge with water and ice dispenser on the outside, 36” wide, height 70”

I purchased a brand new Samsung fridge in January 2016 and started having problems with it 6 months later. We came home and noticed that the fridge temperature wasn’t cold enough to keep the food from spoiling. After throwing all the ruined food out, we had someone come out and replace the thermistor. About 6 months after that, the freezer started freezing up to one giant ice block and we couldn’t get ice out or even pull the ice box out of the fridge. We had it serviced for the ice maker, then it happened again over and over. Ever since the ice maker started freezing up, it’s leaked water constantly out of the fridge and onto our hardwood floor, so there’s constantly a puddle of water on the floor and every time we open the fridge door water pours out onto the floor. We’ve gone through fixing it ourselves, calling out service people to fix it, and it shouldn’t be that way with a new fridge.

We bought our fridge in January 2015. The ice maker had problems right away. We have had condensation on food for the past few years. Recently we have noticed the fridge is warm and we have been throwing away food. We finally bought a thermometer to test this. It reads 47-54.

The company wants us to pay to fix it. The cost is over $500. At this point we are probably buying a new refrigerator as this food is not safe for my family.

The product, in the report: Samsung Refrigerator Stainless Steel Model RF28HFEDBSR

I have a Samsung refrigerator RF28HFEDBRSR that has quite a few design defects. My family and I have been complaining of upset stomachs on and off for a number of weeks. I’ve thrown out milk that was bad thinking that it was just bad milk. We have had issues with the ice maker and the refrigerator making a loud noise. I have called Samsung but haven’t gotten anywhere with them. On Saturday, July 4th, the fridge read on the outside panel 34 degrees, I checked the inside temp with a kitchen thermometer and the inside read 60 degrees. I threw out all the food. Sunday and Monday, myself and my husband had upset stomachs along with other symptoms. Samsung seems to think there isn’t a problem as I have them 3 times this week with a promise they would get back to me. Many people seem to be having the same problem among others with this Samsung fridge as well as many other model but they keep selling them. Especially during these pandemic times, I don’t want to jeopardize my health and my family’s health with a defective fridge. Please help. Thank you so much, [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Samsung RS25H5111BC side by side refrigerator Model RS25H5111BC

We have a Samsung RS25H5111BC refrigerator (side-by-side) that we purchased in 2015. A year or two into owning the fridge, we noticed the food just didn’t feel cold. The temperature would fluctuate, but some days it just didn’t feel right, even though the external display read a constant 36 degrees. It also made a horrible noise that sounded like an airplane taking off. Eventually we got a fridge thermometer, and we found out that our fridge was maintaining a temp ABOVE 50 degrees constantly. We looked online to see what could be causing this since our freezer seemed to be working just fine. We discovered that this is a constant problem with Samsung refrigerators, so we opened up the panel in the fridge and found the elements COVERED in ice. We defrosted it, and the temp seemed to return to normal. But within a week or so, it began to creep up again. We opened it up, and it was frozen again. We have been defrosting the fridge every few weeks for years, and the temp will not go below 40 degrees now. It’s very upsetting that we were unknowingly eating food that wasn’t maintained at proper temperatures (and having digestive upset at the same time, mind you). The external display does NOT match the internal temperature. This is clearly a product defect considering the thousands of people who also have this problem and are unable to repair it.

My Samsung refrigerator temperature gauge says my refrigerator is at 38 degrees, after many years of throwing out dairy products that did not reach their expiration date ,I put a digital thermometer in refrigerator and to my horror the real temperature was 59 degrees. Makes me wonder all the times I have been sick and nauseous over the years that it was probably food poisoning..I also called Samsung about a brown liquid I was constantly wiping off the rear of my refrigerator, they did not know. I just removed the back panel off refrigerator and have come to the conclusion that the brown drippings was rust from a top screw because frig was icing up over screw.

The product, in the report: Samsung french door stainless steel defective model RF28HMEDBSR/AA & serial model RF28HMEDBSR/AA

This is the short version. I have a longer, very detailed version I would like to send. Samsung Refrigerator June 2016...model RF28HMEDBSR/AA & serial #065L43BH304179H, manufactured 3/2016 for $2022.47. Ice maker freezes up, ice maker stuck, water leaking from spout, mold forms from ice maker through the water spout, fridge not maintaining temp under 40 degrees when set at 34. Samsung agreed to free repair (both labor & parts as there is a 5 yr warranty on sealed system), appointments made and canceled 3 times by Unique Repair, they sent ticket back to Samsung bc too busy. Samsung unable to find another service repair company to take the job. Samsung asking me to find someone to repair (& they will reimburse us) but all reputable repair centers refuse to repair Samsung fridges and advised we not try and repair as there is NO definitive repair. Defective design. Asked Samsung to put that they will reimburse repair in writing and they have not done so. First ticket number [redacted], Samsung canceled it, new ticket number for repair is [redacted]. In summary, there is an engineering design defect in these units that cause these refrigerators to have multiple failures (ice maker & temperature regulation) and this unit should be recalled. The fact that Samsung will not consistently repair or replace them is beyond unacceptable, but what is worse is that they have been aware of this issue for years and continue to sell the units knowing that they will fail just after the warranty expires. We are now aware that there are many many people with Samsung refrigerator problems due to the design defect and that Samsung is aware of this and has issued multiple service bulletins to attempt to fix (or put a [REDACTED]) on the defect. I am seeking a refund to purchase a working, safe fridge. Our biggest job as parents is to keep our children safe and that includes serving them safe foods & drinks, not spoiled milk or food. Thank you for your time.

The product, in the report: Samsung 22.5 cu. ft. French Door Refrigerator in 1 Stainless Steel, Counter Depth Model # RF23HCEDBSR Store SKU # 1000040595

On February 5th, 2018, We purchased our beautiful Samsung refrigerator – Model RF23HCEDBSR – for $2,566.45 (I have the receipt). Within about 6 Months after purchase, the Samsung icemaker would freeze up inside and stop working stopped making any ice. We have had to thawed the entire refrigerator out by unplugging and allowing the buildup of ice in the unit to melt and it worked for 1-2 months. We had our appliance repair person look at it. He told us it is unfixable and is a defect in design. Finally we just learned to live without it and used our basement refrigerators, ice-maker and would fill up a plastic bowl and keep it in the Freezer drawer of the Samsung.

After searching for answers, I learned that I am not the only consumer with this expensive refrigerator which does not work properlhy. I read over and over about Samsung consumers with frozen up ice makers just like ours. And after countless attempts at repairs by Samsung, they still did not work.

Finally, This year 2020, we started taking the temperature of the inside of our refrigerator and freezer and discovered that the temperature not only does not match what is displayed on our doors diplay but is is unsafe territory since the temperature is above 40 degrees. ie. 42-44 degrees, rarely going below 40 dregrees.

My husband was sick from a food bourne illness last fall and at the time we never even assumed it was from our own home. But now we know, it was most likely from our own refrigerator not keeping the proper temperature of our foods causing them to be unsafe to eat.

This refrigerator (exact model) is under class action litagation. [REDACTED]

Countless Consumer Reports of this refrigerator are flooding the internet and new media. I was in shock to see so many experiencing the same problems we are enduring.

I would like a full refund for this purchase. I purchased this unit in good failth, a properly working refrigerator with a icemaker to make ice automatically. Which it is failing in two categories, No ice making and Temperature issues. The Samsung Refrigerator has a known defect with its ice maker and temperature issues. The temperature defect is truly dangerous and can not be ignored. We are scared. I want a product I can count on to keep my familys health safe. This refrigerator is not safe

    March 16, 2020

I agreed to have Samsung send a service technician to my home to fix the ice maker temperature issues. The technician replaced the ice maker with a new one reset the thermostat. This worked for approximately 6 weeks before freezing up again. My contact, [REDACTED] told me that if it cannot be repaired, I would be refunded my purchase amount. [REDACTED]

April 29th - June 30th I have called and send numerous emails to my primary contact, [REDACTED]. She is not responding.

June 30th - 2020 I called 1800-Samsung. After being on hold for 45 minutes, I finally go to speak to [REDACTED] He offered me a refund which was not my purchase price. He said because it was two years old and out of warranty. I told him this is not a warranty issue at all but a defect. I want my full refund. I was put on hold again for 30 minutes or more waiting for a supervisor, [REDACTED]. [REDACTED] basically told me all they would offer is this pro-rated amount of $1400.

[REDACTED] employee number [REDACTED] told me he was the highest and that there was no one higher for me to speak to and I could take this pro-rated amount or nothing.

I contacted Samsung thru their online chat and the person I spoke to offered very little in whom I could contact. Instead just told me someone would contact me in 2-3 days. I am off today and can spend the entire day working on this but the few days I am working and am unable to accept calls. I explained this to the chat person and asked if they leave a call back number. They indicated they were unsure.

I am more than frustrated in my $2500 purchase from Samsung and the run around I am getting from these people. If they can’t fix it which it is evident they cannot since their seems to be a well known defect in their design. They need to replace it.

I have my receipt and service tickets and emails. Any help in resolving this issue. Thank You for your time. [REDACTED]

I purchased a Samsung french door refrigerator in 2017...the product was manufactured in 2016. Th ice maker started freezing up on 2018...there is water leaking on the floor which is very dangerous...I am a senior citizen and my husband is a Viet Nam vet with a heart condition...the temperature fluctuates and this isn’t good for the storage of food. There are 20000 consumers with this same problem. I have contacted Samsung to no avail...I tried defrosting the ice maker and now they have denied my claim...I slipped and fell once but I did not get hurt...however with this water seipping on floor it definitely can happen again...Thanks

Our Samsung refrigerator is making our family sick. It doesn’t keep a cold temperature and our food is spoiling. Our ice maker is frozen and doesn’t make ice. Water leaks into the refrigerator and the drawers of the refrigerator ruining our food. ? Parts were defective prior to assembly, parts do not fit, and parts were cracked prior to assembly. This is a very expensive item. Money has been spent and lost on repairs. Samsung should realize this defect and realize that there is a “Lemon Law Act”. Thank you for any help you can give me and my family.

Samsung refrigerator wasn’t keeping food as cool and then simply stopped working - spoiling hundreds of dollars of food and causing the loss of priceless frozen breastmilk. This is a 6 year old fridge that we’ve always taken excellent care of, and it is Energy Star rated (so expected to last at least 12 years). Samsung is taking no responsibility, saying the product is out of warranty, though I have since learned that this is a known product defect.

We have been dealing with issues with our Samsung appliances since we bought them in 2016. The refrigerator’s ice maker freezes up, does not produce ice, leaks to the point it causes damage, and does not maintain safe food temperature. The stovetop range also does not keep correct temp and the dishwasher fails to dispense the detergent, thus failing to clean anything. We opened up tickets regarding the fridge and dishwasher back in 2018. The only reason we waited was that I was pregnant with twins and then dealt with the sudden death of my father. Since then, we’ve had multiple ticket numbers open with them: [REDACTED]. None of these resolved the defect issues. A few weeks ago I reached out again to resolve the fridge issues, I was assigned to the French Door Action Team and was told by [REDACTED] that I would be provided a full refund plus sales tax (documented). Since then I have had my ticket number canceled and reopened repeatedly. My newer ticket numbers are [REDACTED]. In those tickets, I was guaranteed a full refund plus sales tax ($1616.99) if I submitted my receipt of purchase, which I did multiple times. I was then told I would receive a prorated amount of $1427.30 ([REDACTED]) and then the amount changed to a little over $900 ([REDACTED]). These amounts changed in a matter of days and hours. I am now escalating the matter given their gross incompetence, poor service, and no real attention given that this is a known issue. It is a design defect that has sparked a class-action lawsuit. They are also in violation of NJ Assurance of Voluntary Compliance (AVC) of 2009 in which it states they can “Not engage in any unfair acts or deceptive practices”. They and their reps are clearly in violation of this agreement. Through their actions, Samsung has harmed my family and caused us monetary losses. I will be filing with both AZ and NJ Attorney Generals’ offices if resolution is not prompt.

I’m requesting a $2048.18 refund for the defective refrigerator, dishwasher, and applicable sales tax. I have documentation supporting the claims/repairs for both appliances and promises made and broken by Samsung. I will push for compensation for the years of buying ice, buying ice makers, spoiled food, wasted water, wasted detergent, health hazards, and damage caused by Samsung’s defective appliances if the matter is not resolved promptly.

I purchased a Samsung refrigerator and have had multiple issues with it especially within the last two years. Currently the temperature gauge that is on the door is not accurate for the temperature inside the unit for the food. I also have issues with the ice maker freezing all the time and and leaks water outside the ice maker and now is growing mold because the temperature is not cold enough to sustain the ice maker and foods in the refrigerator. It also freezes up behind the back panel weekly and leaks water under the crisper drawers and is turning moldy because the temperature is incorrect.

We purchased a suite of appliances from Home Depot July 4, 2016. Three of the appliances were Samsung products-French Door refrigerator with ice/water in door, over the range microwave and dual oven stove. Due to delivery delays and then service tech flooding kitchen when installing dishwasher it was October before we had a functioning kitchen. The Samsung microwave caught on fire the 4th time it was used. After multiple calls to Samsung we finally received a refund. Samsung French Door refrigerator with ice/water in door had water coming from under fridge and in the middle drawer in May 2017. We had been on a weekend trip and thought it could be due to ice maker being full and could not dump more in bin. It only did that once however it has been freezing over since then. The ice maker has been replaced twice. It continues to freeze over. It has frozen over 4 times since May 26,2020. It has frozen up 2 days in row this week. Ice Maker grows mold where ice comes of maker and on rubber chute in door. Refrigerator started making loud noise around the ice maker. Noise stops when door is opened. Due to the noise I started checking the internal temp of the unit. The door temp shows 36/37. Internal temp ranges from 41-45 and has gone as high as 50. I have had to thrown away food that had spoiled after just 1 day in fridge. I have taken meat back to grocery store that was spoiled thinking it was fault of grocery store-I now know it is due to fridge. I now freeze meat when I purchase it even if I plan to cook it the next day. Bagged salad goes bad after 1day. I am a cancer survivor with a compromised immune system. Two years ago I started having severe stomach, digestive and bowel issues. I have had many tests and procedures by my oncologist and gastro dr trying to find cause of condition. I am letting them both know about the internal temp of fridge to see if that contributes to my condition. The ice maker is a frustrating inconvenience. The noise goes from loud to a low hum. The internal temp is a major health concern for me and my family. I have filed compliant with NJ BBB and have received phone call and emails from Office of the President at Samsung. I have requested a full refund of purchase price + sales tax. The ice maker issue is a known product defect that goes back to 2006/2007 yet they continue to sale units with the known defective ice maker.

I purchased a Samsung French door refrigerator in 2013. It has not worked properly since we have had it. The ice maker stopped working, then the water. These were annoying and in convenient issues, but nothing we could not live with. Fall of 2016 noticed our coffee cream was curdling. We thought it was the product and started purchasing from another store. We both started having digest issues and felt nauseous all the time. The door temp display said 38 degrees so we thought we had health issues. We bought an interior refrigerator thermometer and the inside temperature was between 50 and 60 degrees, well above the recommended the 32-40 degrees to safely store food. The door display was not showing the actual temp. We called certified Samsung tech who could not come out for a week. Threw away hundreds of dollars of food and had to buy a used garage refuting store food. Cost for repairs $538. Called Samsung. No support. Gave scripted answers- sorry out of warranty. Every time I opened the door after the repairs I was anxious and would check the thermometer to make sure I was not eating spoiled food and get sick again. I know how important it is to maintain safe temperatures. In April 2020 refrigerator started freezing. Tech said would cost $700 to $800 to repair with no guarantee it would work. Called Samsung. Same response. I have since discovered there THOUSANDS of customers with the the same issues and this is a defective unit. Samsung has known about this since 2009. Why do these issues keep occurring and what has Samsun done to fix it ? They have not taken proactive steps to notify their customers of this manufacturer’s defective unit. This refrigerator should have been recalled so innocent shoppers such as myself would not have to go through this period of being sick and worried about their food safety. I have spent a lot of money, time and effort trying to get a resolution from Samsung. Only to be told I am out of warranty. It’s not a warranty issue. It’s a defective unit issue that has created a huge problem for food safety. Samsung should stand behind their products safety and liability. Please feel free to contact me at [REDACTED].

The product, in the report: Four door refrigerator with flex zone compartment. Ice maker in refrigerator door.

Samsung refrigerator RF28K9380SR was purchased as a replacement to a separate failed unit. It was purchased March 17, 2018. Within a few months, the ice maker began freezing over to the point of non-functioning. This known defect leads to dangerous situations of defrosting or getting large chunks of sharp ice out of the unit to get it back into working order. Also, the freezing over condition causes ice to melt near the bottom of the unit and leak water onto the floor in front of the unit. This has caused several instances of people slipping of almost slipping since standing water could be there at any time. The condition has had several units affected for over a decade and has been brought to Samsung’s attention in many different ways, including deceitful business practices in 2009 from the New Jersey. Samsung has not stop selling the units with known defects and has tried to get me to pay for a service call on their issue. Samsung continues to put out service bulletins on the known defects. The ice maker causes a safety issue and should be refunded in full by Samsung since the company knew of the issues prior to selling the unit.

We have bought the fridge at the end of the 2013, we received it at our new house (we moved to TX for a job) at the end of January 2014, that’s when Home Depot was able to deliver it. Within a year or two, the electronic panel went out, we could not tell the set temperatures by pressing on it, it was halfway lit up. What never occurred to us is that the panel is only responsible for setting the temps, not necessarily what is actually inside of the refrigerator. We have had milk spoiling too fast, fruits and vegetables freeze up and then go mush. I thought maybe the grocery store is selling defective groceries so I tried to pick a better firmer product, but it kept going bad. This year, with pandemic and all, we started hearing noises that would stop when you open the refrigerator doors. Turns out the back wall was completely covered in ice. My husband took out the inside panel (i wish i took pictures) and the whole wall was covered in ice. I then went to google to see what was that and I have discovered many other consumers experiencing issues just like I am. I also found a [REDACTED] group that I joined called “[REDACTED]” with [REDACTED] members as of [REDACTED]. Every single one of them is experiencing issues with their Samsung refrigerator, to the point that the moderator started sharing tips on how to ask Samsung to repair/refund for the defective product. Many of them have successfully received repairs/refunds from Samsung. Over $3M have been refunded since June of 2019. So we defrosted our fridge by letting it sit open for a few hours, hoping this would be the end. Comes April of 2020 we started to hear the fan noise again. When the back wall gets covered in ice, the fan blades are hitting the ice creating this awful noise, as it turns out. This is where I reached out to Samsung and was told that due to the age of the unit (purchased at the end of 2013, received at the end of January 2014) Samsung can only send a repair man at my expense. Then I filed with NJ BBB, a few emails back and forth, the answer I got is basically the same, due to unit age, Samsung cannot offer anything. The fact that this defect affects so many consumers and yet, nothing is done, appalls me to say the least. Samsung customer support even tried to tell me there are no reported issues with my model, when I know for a fact my brother (we purchased same models together) had already had a repair for the compressor when his fridge was about 3 year old, and that same model is also listed in 2017 class action suit with people commenting how their back wall freezes over and they have had the Samsung repair guys coming out and fixing it temporarily. I wanted Samsung to offer a one time courtesy fix which they absolutely refuse to do. Reading and talking to other customers, all their fixes are only temporary, therefore, I am refusing to pay $$ to just temporarily fix the issue. And I dont think it is right for Samsung to make us pay for their defects that they are completely aware of and even issued at least 7 service bulletins and refuse to own their mistake. To this day you can walk to any home appliance store and buy a defective unit. I have also continued to talk to Samsung Customer care and got 2 tickets that were supposed to be reviewed by their highest customer accommodations department, to only find out a week later that they just cancel the tickets with some fabricated lame excuses without ever trying to reach out to me in any form of fashion. All I want is to have a refrigerator that does its only job of keeping food at safe temperatures.

I am completely shocked to find out that such a major home appliance company won’t stand behind their product and be allowed to continue to sell its defective appliances to US consumers.

I have contacted Samsung America at least a dozen times, and have had repair technicians to my house at least 6 different times to repair the ice maker that is continuing to leak all over my floors and freeze over. They readily admit that there is a major design flaw in the product that they have no idea how to fix. They keep coming up with repair options that ultimately do not work and the issues begin to reappear within a few weeks of the technician leaving. Some months I just put towels down because Samsung is so very difficult to get a hold of and have them address the issue. They have multiple service attempts on record that they keep trying to fix it but ultimately fail. I have not contacted an attorney yet, but want to explore options. This is a state-wide issue with this particular model and the California AG needs to get involved. Samsung is ripping off California citizens and leaving them with no recourse on fixing it. I want a full refund of the purchase price. Since the purchase a repair technician has been out AT LEAST 6 times for the ice maker. There is a serious design flaw that no repair technician is able to fix. The last repair attempt was on Jan 21, 2020 where they replaced literally every single component in the ice maker and the issue is still happening. I am beyond belief at how poorly designed this fridge is. I want a refund to purchase a fridge that actually works. I have developed heart issues and migraines over this. Model RF28K9070SR, S/N 088D43BJ100187V The amount of times that a repair has been attempted is unimaginable. I have had so much damage done to my floor and house over continued leaks, freezing over, and the inoperability of this fridge. It is very obvious that no known solution exists and I would very much appreciate the ability to get my money back so I can purchase a fridge that actually works and does not cause any further damage (than what has already been done) to my house. You can easily see by my serial number how many times a technician has been out. A repair is impossible and want a refund!!!!! This fridge has caused a devastating toll on my health and well-being. I have started visiting a doctor and sought medical help because of how bad this purchase has been. I am begging and pleading with you to do the right thing and to please give me my money back.

My Samsung refrigerator model RF30HDEDTSR/AA stopped cooling for the third time since purchase. The temperature display on the front ALWAYS reads 34 degrees regardless of what the actual temperature is. After my husband and kids complained on milk tasting “funny” and everyone in the house frequently dealing with stomach trouble and diarrhea I bought an internal thermometer and found that the temperature was over 46 degrees! And who knows for how long! This refrigerator has a known design defect that causes the condenser coils to freeze and stop cooling the unit. I have had that part replaced or repaired three times. The loss of food and spoilage each time that this happens is one thing but it is NOT SAFE to have a defective product that ALSO provides inaccurate temperature readings on the front of the unit. Please take action against Samsung as there are years of service bulletins showing that they are well aware of the issues that make this product UNSAFE.

My Samsung refrigerator has never worked correct since day one. This unit always had problems with a malfunctioning ice maker that will freeze and stop working, then the refrigerator side the the unit will start to leak significant amounts of water inside the refrigerator, potentially creating the issue of a fire hazard or electrical shock.

Also the unit internal temperate is not accurate and food and meals will go bad. We have found the hard way my family was getting food poisoned by this unsafe refrigerator.

My food and medications where compromised because of this product and Samsung needs to be hold accountable for their lack of responsibility to the customers. More importantly Samsung needs to take Customer SAFETY as their #1 priority.

Samsung will not stand behind their product and avoid any responsibility for a product that its fundamental defective and with design flaws and expect customers to pay to repair a product that was sold to me broken from day one.

List of problems: 1. Defective Ice Maker unit. 2. Continuous water leaks inside the refrigerator unit to the bottom of the crisper. 3. Loud noises coming from the Twin Cool System in the refrigerator side. 4. UNSAFE temperatures inside the refrigerator.

The product, in the report: This product has a factory recall due to the icemaker and not keeping the box temperature that is appropriate for food. Samsung will not stand behind sending a free repair man or giving a refund for the unit.

I purchased a Samsung refrigerator in 2015. This unit lasted one year before it started going bad. The refrigerator has an icemaker installed that on a continual basis will freeze up and drop the temperature of the refrigerator to an unsafe level for food. This also results in the icemaker not producing ice. I have called Samsung on many occasions and they refused to send a repair man out to help with the issue. I am unwilling to pay for a repair man as this was virtually a new unit. I am forced to remove all food from the refrigerator in the freezer in order to defrost the unit so that it will Restart at a safe temperature. I have three children living in the home and I cannot risk food being perishable as I have a child with special allergies and food needs. I called Samsung at least once a year due to the fact that this product has a [REDACTED] and they continue to refuse to help remedy the problem.

We purchased Samsung Refrigerator Model RF28HMEDBSR/AA. Eight months later the icemaker stopped working. We contacted support and did the steps they recommended. It would fix it for a few months and then right back to icemaker freezing up. The refrigerator leaks down the back and into the drawers, and does not keep safe temperatures. Contacting Samsung has not resulted in resolution. They have Service Bulletins to address these issues but claim they aren’t aware of the problem. They have no record of our contacting support and claim it is out of warranty, although it is a Manufacturing Defect and not a warranty issue. We currently have to freeze 1/2 gallon containers in our big freezer and place them in the refrigerator to cool it down and still temperatures are above 40 degrees. We regularly have to throw out food that has spoiled long before the sell by dates on the packaging. We have to soak up the water that has leaked below the drawer compartments daily and mold grows regularly. This is hazard to our health. As senior citizens we have limited resources to replace this appliance. Samsung knows this is a problem and yet they continue to manufacture and sell refrigerators will this same Design Defect. We have requested a full refund for this appliance, as they have done with others, and they have refused. These refrigerators need to be recalled and refunds issued to consumers. Samsung needs to be forced to stop selling these defective refrigerators.

The product, in the report: Samsung french door refrigerator Model RF28HDEDPWW

Samsung french door refrigerators last just as long as the 1 year factory warranty. The ice maker freezes up and the refrigerator evaporator coils freeze until the ice is big enough to stop the fan. When the fan stops the temperature rises to unsafe levels, but the temperature on the door does not reflect, because the temperature sensor is by the frozen coils, not where the food is stored. I was sick for days from eating spoiled chicken breast that I did not realize was being stored at 50 degrees. The refrigerator was report it was 36 degrees. At this point you have to unplug your refrigerator for 24 hours about once a month and lose all of your food every time. Samsung will tell you the warranty is up and you have to pay for service even though it is a $3000 product that only last just over 1 year.

The product, in the report: Samsung refrigerator, We have a Samsung refrigerator, Model #RF31FMESBSR that we purchased in 2014. We couldn’t figure out why our milk, fruit, meats and other parishables were going bad before the sell by dates and liquids seemed cool, but not cold when the temperature was set at 38 degrees (which is what the display showed) We lowered the temperature and monitored it for several days with a digital thermometer. The range was between 45 and 60 degrees. Our food was spoiling and during this time with the Coronavirus, we could not go out all the time to get fresh food. We stocked up on several items that all had to be thrown out. In addition, the panel on the back of the fridge and the coils were frozen with ice coming through the hole. My main concern was my food going bad. I contacted Samsung asking for a service call, and they were not only rude, but indicated there was nothing that could be done by them because it was out of warranty. We finally had to purchase a new refrigerator and we moved the Samsung in our garage for the time being. The freezer portion still works but that is it. I have done my homework, followed many social media sites with thousands of people have the same issue. This is a safety issue. This is not a warranty issue, it is a known design defect. The sensor that shows consumers what the temperature is inside the fridge is sending false and misleading temperature readings. This is allowing people to think their food is being kept at a safe temp, when in fact it is not. My son got extremely ill from drinking milk that went bad because of this defect. Samsung needs to acknowledge their design flaws that allows the digital temp display to show normal safe temps yet in the refrigerator temps are actually 10-20 degrees higher. In addition to these issues, the ice maker would no longer made ice and was frozen shut and could not be removed. I did all the resets, unplugged and let defrost, then plub back in only for it to work for a day and then again freeze up. Mind you this only allowed the ice maker to work again...the temps were still much much higher then what was indicated on the panel. I have read that many consumers have been complaining about these issues and it needs to be resolved. On of the social media sites indicates that Samsung has refunded over $3MM to consumers because of these known defects, yet they wouldn’t even send out someone to try to repair ours. Some of these refunds were for refrigerators that were purchase way before ours so I’m not certain why they are discriminating against me. If they are not going to offer me a FREE service call including any parts that might need to be replaced, then we should be refunded for the purchase of this faulty refrigerator, we should also be reimbursed for all of the food we lost.

About 9 months ago I finally turned off the ice maker and decided to buy bagged ice, I thought this would at least help the hassle of defrosting once every two weeks. This did not help, the ice maker is now so frozen that it’s pushed out the housing so the door does not close properly. I have a Samsung fridge - model RF263TEAESR/AA. The icemaker freezes over and creates leaky/slushy ice and water leaks into my fridge and onto the floor. The fridge itself won’t maintain a consistent ideal temp. Currently, it fluctuates between 50-60 degrees. It makes loud noises, like a jackhammer hitting something hard. The noises stop when the door opens. Upon further research and investigation, the evaporator is covered solid with ice and there is ice around the fan. Currently, the fan will not spin because of the ice. In researching the issue, Samsung has issued service bulletins stating there is a defect with the fridge, but when contacting Samsung to try to get a resolution they say “there are no issues with that model” and “if there is something I could do I would help you.” Besides being concerned about my vegetables, cheeses, meats, and other foods spoiling, I also have to keep injectable medicine at stable temps.

This Samsung refrigerator has not worked correctly since purchase. I have contacted Samsung several times with no resolution.

-Control panel does not show correct internal temperature for refrigerator or freezer, causing food borne illness and food spoilage. Refrigerator nearly always reports a temperature of 34 but it is actually from 42 to 46 based on external digital thermometer.

The freezer is almost always reported to be -8 when in reality it is +2.

This can be dangerous for anyone using this refrigerator and do not wish to risk a food borne illness caused by this faulty machine.

-Ice maker does not work and water drips out of the dispenser door constantly, causing mold and moisture issues to the inside of the refrigerator and drips on food stored inside as well. The water pools under the vegetable bins inside the refrigerator and sometimes drips onto the floor of the kitchen. Mold growth occurs that has to be cleaned weekly.

    - Ice Maker freezes up constantly and will not produce ice. - Requires frequent defrosting. After defrosting and removing frozen ice mess, ice maker no long functions at all.

The product, in the report: Samsung Family Hub 4 Door French Door Counter Depth Fridge. Model # RF22NPEDBSG

I purchased a Samsung Smart Fridge under 2 years ago. Since purchasing I noticed black mold builds up quickly no matter how much I clean, and there is always a lot of condensation too. We are newlyweds and this is my first fridge purchase so maybe I was naive but I thought it was normal. Then my ice machine stopped working altogether and froze over and I noticed a lot of mold buildup there too. Per suggestion, I put a thermometer in my fridge to check temperature. The fridge reported the temp as 37 degrees but my thermometer clocked in at 42 degrees, which I think explains the mold and why fresh produce or seafood spoils rather quickly.

I will also add, when I called Samsung about the ice machine I was told to make my freezer temp at 4 degrees instead of 0, which I know is not recommended by FDA so I didn’t listen, but I am still shocked that was the “official” advice.

The product, in the report: Samsung flex zone refrigerator model RF28K9070SR

We purchased a Samsung flex zone refrigerator model RF28K9070SR on February 19, 2017 which was delivered on November 6, 2017. The refrigerator from the very beginning had ice maker issues. We read the manual and researched our issue online and found that the remedy was to remove the ice maker and allow it and box to thaw and reset the unit. This information was found on the Samsung chat fix. We have performed this many times over the subsequent two years and it will work for a short time until it repeats the issue. On or about March 1, 2020 we were away on a trip and returned to find that the freezer section and the flex zone had quit working allowing the temperature to rise which resulted in the frozen food section to thaw. This resulted in us disposing of all the products contained. We have called Samsung who referred us to an outside tech company to repair at our expense. The tech company called and said they cannot fix a Samsung Sealed System. We don’t feel this is fair as Samsung is not taking responsibility for a product that they know and sell that is defective. We know from reading other owners complaints that if we spend money trying to repair this unit, it will most likely not remedy the problem. I am a 100% disabled veteran. My wife and I are over 65. These supposed fixes are very hard physically and mentally frustrating! We feel the remedy for our issue is for Samsung to redeem our money so we can buy a product that works and will keep our food and medicine safe.

Purchased a Samsung refrigerator from Best Buy and have had nothing but problems with it ever since it was purchased. The ice machine freezes up causing it to leak was and make it impossible to get ice out. The ice tray has cracked and I have found pieces of plastic in the ice as a result. In addition I recently had to use an outdoor fridge to keep everything cold and I am strongly considering replacing the unit due to the inconsistent performance, the terrible noise the machine makes, the fear or plastic in the ice and concern the unit might begin leaking again and food spoil.

I bought a Samsung refrigerator in 2014 and this Refrigerator has a manufacture defect thta cannot be fixed. Temperature in the fridge is about 50 F. Had cooling tower replaced three times, computer once and also problem with ice maker. Last service on this refrigerator my tecnitian told me it would be cheaper to buy a new unit then replace all the parts again. In lost over $ 1,000 in food ande and my kids had stomachal problem in the past. I even did an endoscopy in 2019 to figure ehat was wrong with my stomach. Now I understand it may be the food in my refrigerator thra was making me and my kids sick. I contacted Samsung about fixing my refrigerator or giving me a full refund for my refrigerator and food loss, but they denied my claim saying my refrigerator was out of warranty and they couldn’t do anything for me.

This email involves poor performance with the following Samsung fridge.

    RGF298AARS series, Serial number: C78743CSB0188R Purchased 3/7/2010

Complaints: Ongoing issues with drawers, ice build up below crisper and in ice maker and poor temp control

This product has caused me work and continual monitoring due to over icing and not keep consistent temps. I have found out that in talking to others with the same concerns that there is a design defect and two class actions in the US and Israel! I purchased a new Samsung refrigerator in March 2010 model number RFG298AARS. Even though it is an older model, it has had many issues that Samsung has refused to resolve. I first noticed some loud grinding noises near where the ice maker is located inside the refrigerator section. Then the ice maker itself started to form ice all around the unit, causing it to seize up and not work properly. Then one day I had trouble opening the long pantry door on the bottom of the refrigerator section. This has been a continual issue and causes me to clean, wipe down, and remove the ice build-up frequently. If not properly done, it leads to a substantial leak inside the fridge along with poor temp control for food storage. I have to monitor items in the back due to over freezing and other items such as milk as temps get too low.

I have also had issues w/the shelving as they are not strong enough to handle condiments on the door. All pictures are attached to see the maintenance issues with this unit.

I tried searching online to see if there was a solution to the problems I was having, and I then found that there have been thousands of complaints by other Samsung refrigerator customers with the same exact issues I was having. I was also made aware of a class-action lawsuit against Samsung currently in mediation regarding these issues. It is clear that Samsung has knowledge of a common, widespread problem with their refrigerators.

I contacted Samsung to address and still wanted to reach out as my complaints and issues follow others that have had the same concerns. I have heard many accounts from other Samsung customers that any repair attempts ultimately do not work, and their units have to be serviced multiple times and eventually replaced altogether. Because of this, I was not willing to pay to have the unit serviced knowing that I would almost certainly have to replace it anyway. I also do not feel it is right for Samsung to continue to charge their customers to service a knowingly faulty product. I would like a refund for this product due to continual maintenance and headaches.

The product, in the report: Samsung refrigerator/freezer/ice maker

We purchased Samsung refrigerator model #RF28HMEDBSR from Home Depot on 9/14/15. Price was $2,438. Unfortunately, that was before I was made aware of numerous Samsung product issues including the ice maker design flaw and chronic freezing/thawing, temperature regulator failures, and class action lawsuits in the US and other countries. The temperature reading on the front panel has consistently been incorrect as we compared that to a thermometer, which we placed inside the unit. We have also had issues with the beverage drawer, where we have had bottles freeze and explode because of a discrepancy in temperature from the reading. Additionally, on 4/30/2020 we noticed the ice maker was totally frozen and was not producing any ice. We called 2 different Samsung authorized repair servicers and paid $50 to have a technician come out on 5/13/20 who recommended that we replace the ice maker at our cost of $370. Since this problem is a know product defect, as mentioned above, we did not want to throw good money after bad, and opted to pursue a product refund. We contacted Samsung directly and they put us on hold for nearly 1.5 hours, then hung up on us. Further, we filed a complaint with the BBB in NJ, the corporate office and plan to file one in FL, our home state.

Report regarding a Samsung Refrigerator Model # RF428HARS The fridge was purchased in Dec 2013 from Lowes. About a year later the door bins fell out of the fridge. They cracked at the bottom from the sides it was attached to the fridge. It seems to be a design flaw. I replaced the first 2 at $50 a piece because per Samsung the unit was out of warranty. I asked if it was recalled or if it was deemed a design flaw since it continues to happen. No and they didn’t carry replacement bins for that model?? Going into year 2 it started making a loud noise. Leaking out of the bottom of the fridge. We called Samsumg and they recommended it be serviced. Since then the ice maker has worked okay. Occasionally ice gets stuck in the back so I have to take the ice bin out to readjust. Year 5 the digital temperature control panel has gone out. The seals around the French door are moldy. I’ve tried cleaning it but no luck. We are basically using it since we don’t have anything else and its a lot of money to buy a replacement.

Incident Description: Purchase Price w/ warranty: $1672.51 Purchase Date: Oct 4, 2017 Problem: Samsung has many models of refrigerators with known defects that causes their refrigeration to operate at UNSAFE temperature. The defect causes the refrigerator section evaporator to freeze over so much that the ice build-up hits the circulation fan, causing a loud noise to develop. The ice build-up prevents circulation of cold air inside of the refrigerator, with results being the temperature rises to unsafe levels for proper food storage.

Details: We purchased the refrigerator in Oct. 2017 on or around Jan. 2018 under the ONE YEAR Samsung Warranty we had our first repair which was ice build up in the ice component. The tech used a hair dryer to defrost the build-up and changed out a part. During the ONE YEAR Samsung Warranty period, there were approximately 2-3 additional repair service calls by a Samsung technician to repair breakage in the ice component.

AFTER the ONE YEAR Samsung warranty expired, the 5 year warranty that we purchased through RC Willey at the time of purchase Oct 4, 2017 became effective. During the period of time from Jan 2019 to current date of May 2020, there have been SEVEN Service Calls utilizing the extended warranty for repairs to the Ice Component for the same problems. RC Willey orchestrated the service calls to Lake Appliance Company for all repairs performed. Page 2

Additional Details: My family (myself/husband/children/grandchildren) have been having stomach issues off and on for the past few years. There have been feelings of nausea/ discomfort and diarrhea. My husband, [REDACTED] , recently underwent open heart surgery. He underwent Quad by-pass and a valve replacement. His condition is fragile. We take precautions as he cannot develop bacterial infections as it could go directly to his heart. We initially thought our earlier illnesses were due to food quality --- but after the open heart surgery--- we modified our food products eating only Organic Safe quality foods. We tracked our eating habits and established that we did not have food allergies but we continued to experience nausea/discomfort and diarrhea.

Over a course of time, after numerous refrigerator/ice component repairs we realized our refrigerator had a defect. The same issues were occurring despite the redundant repairs. After doing some research online and in addition viewing a news story on television generated from a Florida news channel, we discovered Samsung was selling defective refrigerators. We discovered a web page where over 17,000+ consumers, who purchased The Samsung French Door refrigerators – various/numerous models- were experiencing the same issues as we were. We discovered this is NOT a warranty issue but rather a known factory DEFECT issue with zero fixes over all of the models and there is currently a CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT for this reason.

The temperature inside of the refrigerator is not what the indicated temperature is on the display on the outside of the refrigerator. We are losing the colder degrees and as a result our food temperatures are at unsafe readings. This is the end result for our illness. Page 3 Water is dripping from the dispenser into the outside portion of the water dispenser which then runs down the front of the refrigerator. Water is dripping and running down the inside of the refrigerator and settling under the vegetable drawers and inside of the drawer ruining many food products.

The defects of the ice unit component is that the evaporator coils freeze, and the cold air is prevented from circulating properly, which increases the inside temperature of the mail unit to unsafe levels And the refrigerator temperature reading is false which makes the food inside perishable and unsafe. The design defects of the ice unit is causing my family to become ill. There is MOLD forming up inside of the ice component. Mold spores are spreading in the water/ice and interior food compartment. AGAIN. My husband has undergone open heart surgery and cannot become infected with bacteria as it would be life threatening should it spread to his heart muscle. As a result of this defect, I have had to install an older refrigerator in the garage where I store my husband’s food, water and ice to prevent contamination from the mold spores that are forming and populating within the entire unit The last technician that came to repair the unit on May 22,2020 took photos of the mold in the upper part of the ice component but his response was that the mold would not hurt us. MOLD does damage lungs and the spores are deadly especially to a recent open heart surgery person.

I have surveyed many in my community of a little over 50,000 population and within one hour the response of consumers having ice component issues grew to over 30. Many complained to the retailer// many had fixes that were NOT fixed/ some bought new refrigerators and junked the Samsung while others use hairdryers to defrost the ice buildup. Desired Resolution: We request a full refund for the purchase of the refrigerator with the tax and warranty cost included for a total of $1672.51

Samsung refrigerator (RF263TEAESR/AA) that was purchased Aug of 2014. In July of 2019 our Samsun refrigerator started making noises and water would leak into the bottom of our refrigerator and the temp was showing 34 on the screen but our food and drink was spoiled. After putting a thermometer in the refrigerator we realized that the temperature was only 45° F. We started noticing ice forming in the back of the the refrigerator. We pulled it out away from the wall and vacuumed under and behind it. After plugging it back in we put a thermometer back in and it never got under 45° F. Our special needs son became very sick with stomach issues more than once due to eating food that was not properly cooled. We bought a extended warranty on the Samsung ad my husband was deployed to [REDACTED], my mother died suddenly [REDACTED] and we had no choice but to purchase the refrigerator from Alabama Power Company. We called the number and the operator told us our warranty had been out just a few weeks. This is not a warranty issue. It is a defective product and negligent fact that Samsung knew these models were doing this and causing people, like our family to lose food due to a refrigerator that we paid $2000. for, lost several hundred dollars worth of food and caused our child to be terribly sick.

Drawer bins keep leaking and the back keep frosting over. There are 2 class action lawsuits against Samsung for these known defects. They have refunded over $1 million as of last June but won’t admit there are defects. They denied my claims for repairs or a refund.

The product, in the report: Samsung refrigerator Model # RF28HMEDBSR/AA 28 cf, French door, Stainless steel

We purchased a Samsung Refrigerator Model # RF28HMEDBSR/AA in 7/2014. We have had nothing but problems with this refrigerator. Over $1200 in repairs to replace part after part, but nothing works. The latest issue involves inaccurate and unsafe temperatures in the refrigerator. I didn’t want to think this was the issue as we had already paid for a repair once before for inaccurate temperatures.

The outside display said the internal temperature of the refrigerator was 34 degrees, but I noticed with my last 2 trips to the grocery store that my fruits and vegetables seemed to be spoiling faster than they should have and the drinks didn’t seem cool. After my husband got ill one afternoon after lunch, I decided to find out for sure. I had to go to several stores (during a pandemic stay at home order) to find a thermometer. After installing it in the refrigerator, I discovered that the internal temperature of the refrigerator was actually 54 degrees. Not knowing how long the refrigerator was actually displaying incorrect temperatures and if something in the refrigerator actually caused my husband to get ill, I had to throw out a refrigerator full of food.

With the refrigerator sitting empty, the freezer still appeared to be working. Then on May 17th, the freezer suddenly quit working. I awoke to water on the floor, melted ice cream and partially thawed freezer food.

What makes this so maddening is all the problems we have had with this Samsung refrigerator are already well documented. A consumer purchases a product in good faith that the product will perform as advertised and promised. When the product ends up being a lemon, fails to perform as advertised and puts the consumers health and safety at risk, the product should be recalled and refunds given. Why are they still being sold?

The product, in the report: Samsung French Door Refrigerator, stainless steel with ice maker / dispenser. Model RF24FSEDBSR/AA

We have a Samsung refrigerator - model RF24FSEDBSR. We’ve had problems with the icemaker from day one. It didn’t produce whole ice cubes, was a combo of ice cubes and chips. We lived with this until about the 2nd year, the ice maker would freeze up and become inoperable. We called Samsung and they said that the ice bucket would need periodic defrosting. So, we would defrost and it would work again for a couple of months. As time went on, the timing of it freezing up became more frequent and the defrost would not even last a week. It’s now totally frozen that we can’t even remove the ice bucket. We are not willing to have to defrost on a less than weekly basis as this is our only refrigerator and would have to store the food in coolers each time we would have to defrost. My husband and I are both disabled and this has caused extreme hardship.

We called a few of local repair shops and they informed us that there’s a manufacturer defect with the ice maker freezing up and either don’t want to repair or tell us that the repair likely won’t fix. We did find a repair man to come out and told us that we would need to caulk the edges and it “might” fix it. We chose not to do this due to cost and not being sure if it would actually fix the problem.

I see so many complaints on the ice bucket on many of their models and Samsung knows this and will not stand behind their products.

Samsung refrigerator model RF28HMEDBSR keeps icing up in the back panel causing the fan to quit working. Subsequently the temperature is rising and it’s spoiling my food. Two weeks ago I consumed some of the spoiled food and didn’t know it had gone bad. Everything was well with in the expiration dates. The result was me being sick from botulism for a night. I found that my refrigerator temperature was well above the programmed 37 degrees. I actually have purchased separate refrigerator thermometers to monitor the temperature now. The coils on the refrigerator are freezing up daily even after doing a manual defrost from the control panel. This is a known defect from Samsung and they have been denying it for a few years now. These refrigerators are unsafe and I’m sure this has happened to more then just me.

My entire kitchen is outfitted with Samsung appliances that are just over 3 years old, and we have had preposterous issues with them from the start. Although we are still under warranty until August 2020 thanks to the purchase of an extended warranty, these are 100% design flaws and it is extremely obvious these are not warranty or age-related. We have a dangerously large puddle in front of our refrigerator and dishwasher, every day. We have dark brown, concrete floors and the water is not always easy to see. I have had 3 of my 4 family members slip on the water, landing on the concrete floor as well as one friend of my children. We have noticed that our food seems to spoil at an unrealistic rate, so we have installed a simple additional thermometer inside of the fridge, and have seen it regularly 20 or even 30 degrees warmer than the fridge settings are programmed to. We have a continuous pile of ice buildup inside of the ice maker which we have had to replace twice. There is a constant glacier that builds up, under the crisper drawer at the bottom portion of the fridge, pouring ice sheets and water onto the floor when the door is opened. The ice maker is continuously dripping water from where? We are unable to see it, but it has sealed our freezer door shut several times, tearing the rubber seal around the freezer door and requiring replacement. The shelves are not dependable and have broken many times, causing items to tumble out of the fridge as soon as someone opens the door. This is all very unsafe!! We noticed that in the last 3 years we have been ill multiple times, and my daughter and myself were tested for allergies, assuming something near our home was causing a problem-only to discover we have had food poisoning repeatedly. How is this company still selling faulty appliances? The dishwasher drains on to the floor and continues to smell like sewer inside of the unit. Dishes are not cleaned, even though they have been scrubbed thoroughly before being placed into the appliance. The continual puddle on the floor has caused a massive breakdown of my flooring which now must be repaired, as well. I have reached out to Samsung as well as the BBB in NJ (because I was told it is their HQ state) requesting a full refund so we can buy appliances that are useable and can be trusted to be safe. I have had numerous repair people into our home to fix the endless headache from these appliances to no avail. I have contacted an internationally acclaimed attorney regarding a lawsuit, should we not find a resolution with Samsung. I join thousands of other Americans in asking that Samsung be held accountable for their negligence with these products. Please advise me on my next necessary step. Thank you for your help. The product, in the report: Samsung French Door bottom freezer refrigerator with ice and water in door.

In 2012 I researched and bought a somewhat expensive Samsung refrigerator at around $2300 from HH Gregg here in Fsirfield Ohio. We had HH Gregg repairmen out 2 x for frozen ice, no ice and freezing puddle under crisper. After losing all of my groceries twice. I was informed it was unfixable. I did not learn this was a common design flaw until a few days ago. It started giving me trouble a couple of months later due to a defect in the design. It’s ice maker’s stopped working, water started pooling under crisper drawer, the back stayed frozen over, and the biggest issue is that the outside temperature display would say the right temperature while the inside would actually be a lot warmer. This caused my insulin to be kept at the wrong temperature causing him to become sick. There is no fix to these problems due to a design defect. The temperature on the inside of fridge is not accurate and we constantly lose food due to low temperatures.

I have a Samsung refrigerator that is continually leaking water and freezing up in the bottom of the freezer drawer. The unit will not hold temperature correctly, the unit is set for 32 degrees but it is staying between 43-46 degrees. I have contacted Samsung numerous times and they will do nothing about the issue. My daughter has gotten sick numerous times due to food spoiling way before it should have, Samsung does not see an issue with this.

I have a Samsung refrigerator model # RF260BEAESG that is 15 months old. Mind you this is my second one , the first stopped working after 5 months and Samsung replaced it after arguing with them for 2 months. I reported to Samsung this fridge stopped working on april 3, 2020.. their giving me the run around over a refund. The freezer is 70 degrees and fridge 47 degrees. While arguing with Samsung once again for a refund I’ve continued to use the fridge part cause I do not have the money to replace it until they give me a refund. This morning I’m pouring my coffee and hear noises coming from inside the refrigerator..I open it, its sparking ?? I record it and RIP the cord out of the wall.

This Samsung 4 door Flex refrigerator has not worked correctly. -Ice maker does not work and water drips out of the dispenser door constantly, causing mold and moisture issues to the inside of the refrigerator and drips on food stored inside as well as down the inside of the door and down to the lower doors of the freezer. The water pools under the vegetable bins inside the refrigerator and sometimes even drips down to the floor of the kitchen. Mold growth occurs that has to be cleaned away. Food stored in the door is ruined with water dripping. - Ice Maker freezes up making a huge ice ball inside ice maker housing and no ice can be used or made further. -Requires frequent defrosting. -Just recently after defrosting and removing frozen ice mess, ice maker no long functions at all no ice is made. -Control panel does not show correct internal temperature for refrigerator or freezer, causing food borne illness and food spoilage. Refrigerator nearly always reports a temperature of 34 but it is actually from 41.5 to 44. Even when the doors have not been opened for 12 hours the refrigerator will report a temperature of 34 when really the temperature is in the 40s still. The freezer is almost always reported to be -8 when in reality it is +2. This can be dangerous for anyone using this refrigerator/freezer, we are sr citizens and do not wish to risk a food borne illness caused by this faulty machine.

The product, in the report: Samsung 26 CF French Door Refrigerator Model number: RF263BEAESR Serial number: JKJ44BBFC00565R (stainless steel in color)

I purchased a Samsung 26 CF French Door Refrigerator on February 1, 2015 (Model number: RF263BEAESR, Serial number: JKJ44BBFC00565R). I have since then experienced multiple problems with the appliance that has required service calls and repairs listed below.

The refrigerator required a service call and repair on August 15, 2017 due to standing water under the produce and cool select pantry drawers, as well as the ice maker freezing over. The back panel was removed and found to be frozen over. This visit the temp sensor was replaced.

Since the 2017 service call, the refrigerator continued to freeze over requiring a manual defrost. The manual defrost was required every 3-4 months to resolve the standing water and frozen ice maker that would continuously return.

The refrigerator required an additional service call and repair on January 17, 2020. The technique to manually defrost the refrigerator was no longer effective as the refrigerator was now making a loud, churning noise. The serviceman that came to repair the refrigerator stated that the noise was due to the fan blade in the back of the refrigerator making contact with the thick, frozen ice that was built up underneath the back panel. At that time, the fan was no longer able to turn at all due to the increasing thickness and amount of frozen ice under the back panel. The serviceman deemed that the ice maker required replacement. The following parts were replaced on February 1, 2020: Ice Maker Service Kit (DA82-02697A) and Cover Assembly Eval-Ref (DA97-12609C).

The refrigerator required an additional service call and repair on February 19, 2020. The loud noise from the fan blade, standing water and freezing over of the ice maker had returned. The serviceman cleared the drain in the evaporator.

The refrigerator required an additional service call and repair on March 11, 2020. The loud noise from the fan blade, standing water and freezing over of the ice maker had returned. The serviceman returned a completed a manual defrost.

I have initiated a new service call as of March 20, 2020 for the same, persistent issues. In addition to the noise, standing water and frozen ice maker, two family members became sick after eating lunch on March 23, 2020 from the refrigerator. I purchased a thermometer to test the temperature inside of the refrigerator and the thermometer has continued to read 54 degrees each day since.

The service company that has been attending to the refrigerator is no longer able to provide additional service visits as they have deemed the refrigerator status to “beyond repair.”

As this is our sole refrigerator, my family is now challenged with the current COVID-19 pandemic to maintain a stocked refrigerator with food that is safe to eat. This ongoing situation needs to be resolved among Samsung to compensate its consumers who are experiencing ongoing defects with a problematic product. Samsung is aware of this issue and recognizes the problems as “known defects.”

Have been using this refrigerator for 2 years and suspected that the actual temperature was not the same as the stated temperature. 2 bouts of food poisoning. Purchased a thermometer and found out that the refrigerator says that it is at 34 degrees but my thermometer says that it is 61 degrees. The freezer goes in and out. I put a cup of ice and froze it and put a penny on it and a few days later the penny was in the bottom of the cup, frozen. This is very dangerous for food contamination. There are many cases of this defect with these refrigerators.

The consumers have had ongoing issues with the ice maker, since they moved into the home.

The freezer and the drawer in the middle are working properly, but the refrigerator is not.

Around late February 2020, the refrigerator started having substantial problems and eventually quit working all together.

The temperature on the outside of the refrigerator reads 34 degrees, but the internal temperature can be in the high 30’s or the low 40’s.

Early March 2020, the consumer contacted the manufacturer. and was told that they have a service bulletin that list this as a defect issue. However, they are not willing to provide a refund or the refrigerator. The 2nd person that the consumer spoke with said that they could not send a technician out. The 3rd technician said that they could send a technician out for a service fee of $800.00. The consumer declined that offer.

The consumer believes that this could present several hazards.

2/2020: The consumer had food born illness in his home. He cannot confirm that this was a result of the refrigerator’s temperature, but based on the frequency of this issue, the problem may have contributed to their illness.

Samsung has a factory defect and refuse to fix mine. Temp on the door says 34 but has regularly gone over 45 ,46 numerous times as I have a know accurate thermometer in my refrigerator and in my freezer. I have paid 2 times to fix my unit and this is the 3rd. I just want mine fixed as this is a known factory defect going back as far as 2008. If it can’t be fixed I want a refund or a credit at Lowe’s or other retailers that sell a similar unit. Samsung refuses to have a recall even as this is a no warranty issue. DEFECT plain and simple. There are over 120,000 people on [REDACTED] that have numerous issues with Samsung giving refunds as far back as 2009. So if giving over $1,600,000 back to people for products they sell isn’t a admission of a defect I’m not sure what would constitute one. Would a company refund that much money unless it was guilty? All this money refund just started in June or July of 2019. The bad thing is [REDACTED] and Lowe’s still sell these bad refrigerators with them knowing that there is a factory defect. Samsung has still built these as of 12-2019 !!!! Samsung has refunded money as far back as units that were built in 2009 in just the last few days. Thanks

After purchasing a home in March of 2018, which included the purchase of a refrigerator. The Samsung RF28HMEDBSR unit that was purchased is a defective unit. Samsung recognizes the unit as defective. In fact, the unit is specifically listed in the service bulletin (I have a copy and can provide) provided by Samsung to its technicians. Currently, the ice maker freezes up which causes water to leak into the fan unit and down the back of the refrigerator. This is causing the fan to freeze up and affect the cooling of the unit. Which has the potential to put food at unsafe temperatures. Additionally, the exterior temperature display incorrectly registers the temperature thus making the unit even more unsafe (I have photos of an internal probe thermometer next to the external display. The external display reads 34 while the internal probe measures at 42). Previously my daughter suffered food poisoning. We had not been out to eat in the days leading up to it. I suspect the defective refrigerator led to us eating and serving unsafe food. After speaking with Samsung they refuse to refund the unit or even service the unit.

The product, in the report: Samsung refrigerator

Bought a Samsung refrigerator in 2016. Within the first year we had Samsung repair our frozen over ice maker under the one year warranty. Then over the next two and a half years we were forced to defrost our fridge ourselves because the ice maker was frozen solid and the back of the fridge was making a horrible noise with a strange burning smell. Upon investigating the horrible noise, we removed the back panel and found the fan was hitting a huge chunk of ice that had formed under the panel. If we didn’t do this our home could have caught on fire! There was mold and dripping water coming from the screw holes. We had to remove everything from the unit defrost it and wash with bleach four times in that two in a half year time period. Finally, we bought a digital thermometer to monitor the interior refrigerator temperature. Even though the reading on the outside display of the fridge registered 37 degrees the interior temps ranged from 46-50 degrees. No wonder why I had so much food spoilage! But the most dangerous thing was how my husband’s health was being compromised. He has had 5 surgeries over the last year because of an ongoing infection. When he came home after each surgery he was on IV antibiotics that needed to be stored at 36-40 degrees. They were not, and we didn’t know that. I was furious that Samsung could be responsible for multiple surgeries and a possible leg amputation due to improper temperature storage of his antibiotic. I called Samsung to correct the issue and they said it was not under warranty. I explained my situation, and they did not care. I filed with the BBB and after another run around with Samsung they finally agreed to a courtesy one time repair, after two weeks we had slushy ice and improper interior temperatures. Called Samsung back and received a full refund and some food loss reimbursement. I know there are thousands of other consumers affected buy this life threatening dysfunctional refrigerator. Life threatening because there have been fires reported also. I am aware of a second class action law suit, that we all know is useless. Samsung has deep pockets, they don’t care about their consumers health and safety, they wont to issue a recall. I see you have received many complaints about this very issue. The CPSC needs to do the right thing, PROTECT THE CONSUMERS.

Our Samsung refrigerator has had issues from the beginning. The ice maker freezers, the cooling system then freezes. This causes the temperature inside to rise. The display panel does not show the correct internal temperature of the unit. Over the weekend my daughter’s stomach began to bother her. I realized the yogurt she had eaten was beginning to spoil from the temperature in the refrigerator rising to 50F. We have had over $550 worth of food spoil in the last week and half in this refrigerator. Samsung promised a repair which has been a no-show since their scheduled appointment on Saturday 2/8/2020. I also lost nearly 100 oz of breastmilk I had worked hard to pump for my infant. Concerns- *Faulty product a fire risk. *Ice maker does not work and water drips out of the dispenser door constantly, causing mold and moisture issues to surrounding surfaces such as flooring and walls. *Requires frequent defrosting. *Control panel does not show correct internal temperature, causing food borne illness and food spoilage. This can be dangerous for anyone who has to store medication in the fridge, breastmilk, formula, and food borne illness.

The product, in the report: Samsung Free standing refrigerator with French Doors & bottom freezer.

In October 2012, I purchased a Samsung refrigerator, this was to replace a [REDACTED] one I had. The model #RF4287HARS. It was manufactured in March 2011. From the beginning, I was having issues with the ice maker. I called Sears out to check it out. The repairman told me I needed a new ice maker & it would cost around $600. As time progressed, it started leaking & freezing up around the outside of the ice maker, getting the box that the ice dropped into frozen to the sides. It also started leaking into the dispenser of the door, meaning that when you went to get ice from the door & hit the button to get ice, water would come out first. Water also started leaking down into the bottom of the freezer at the bottom of the whole unit, creating the freezer door to stick, having to defrost it when it’s a no defrost unit. Since I have not been able to afford a new refrigerator, I have just been living with it, not knowing there has been issues with this product with other people, lots of other people. On Thursday, January 16,2020, the ice maker was just pouring out water from the ice maker, I pulled the box that ice would be in out & found the ice maker burning hot & smoking. I immediately turned off the ice maker & pulled it out & disconnected it. Upon removing the ice maker, I found it had gotten so hot that it melted the plastic in the ice maker & created bubbles in the box of the ice maker. While I was removing the unit, the heat was so intense that I burned myself. It was a blessing that I was home that day, if I had not been, I can only imagine that the unit would have caught on fire & destroyed my house & possibly killing my pets as well as this was what would have been the middle of my work day.

I purchased a brand new Samsung RF263BEAESR/AA refrigerator in 2013 with an extended warranty from Sears. Over the past 3 years I have had continuous problems with my Samsung Refrigerator not producing ice, freezing up in the rear causing the fan to stop and stop cooling, and water puddling under the crisper. I called Samsung and they said there was nothing they could do about this because it was out of warranty. After having done research I realized this is a common issue that affects over 20 models and this was not acceptable.

January 26, 2019 I sent complaint to the BBB regarding this issue and on January 28, Samsung set me up with an out of warranty service repair ticket. The authorized Dealer [REDACTED] came to my home on February 8, 2019 and repaired my refrigerator. Less than a month later my refrigerator started to freeze up again and [REDACTED] team came out again on March 07, 2019. He, defrosted the rear, replaced the ice maker and some other components as well as sealing compartments. In July my ice maker stopped working and in September the back panel freezing started again. I contacted Samsung on November 8 to see if they would rectify this situation via chat. They offered me a repair at my cost and I declined because I have already had it fixed 2 times and should not have to pay for a defect. After almost 2 hours they informed me they will escalate this to the higher level team that I am requesting for a refund for the refrigerator. On November 8, [REDACTED] from Samsung emailed me and said they won’t be able to process a refund since my unit has not been deemed defective, to qualify for a refund my unit needed to have at least 2 complete repairs and at the moment it only has one, please call back if I wanted to proceed with the service repair but will have to cover the charges. I re-opened my case with the BBB on November 11 because I went through the 2 repairs as mentioned and Samsung is denying I had a second repair done at all. On November 21, [REDACTED] from Samsung’s Office of the President stated that I was previously misinformed on their policies and because of the age of my unit, it will not qualify for any accommodations. This is far beyond a warranty issue it’s a defective design that is now endangering me and my family. I had to start throwing away food every few days because the refrigerator does not stay cool, I consistently purchase ice and use coolers as a backup when the refrigerator stops cooling completely. The ice maker is non-functional and frozen shut. Now there is mold appearing under the crisper as well. Samsung is well aware of this defect and only chooses to refund selective customers. My model is one of over 20 models listed in a class action suit filed in New Jersey in 2017 as well as Samsung’s Company issued Service bulletin in May 2017. Even though my refrigerator is 7 years old, models as new as 2018 have the same exact issues.

I have a Samsung Refrigerator Model #RF28JBEDBSG/AA which was not cooling causing food and medicines to spoil even though the door temperature read 36 degrees and the ice dispenser continuously freezes up. Called 1-800-Samsung and was given a trouble ticket number. Was told that although the 1 year warranty was up that they would grant a “one-time warranty allowance” for parts and labor. I would have to pay the repair and they would reimburse me. The representative whose name was [REDACTED] gave me the name and number of an authorized Samsung repair center in my area and I scheduled the repair for 2 January at the cost of $95. A technician pulled up in a Samsung van wearing a Samsung shirt and came in and after I told him what the unit was doing he diagnosed the problem in 5 minutes. He removed the Evaporator Cover which was caked in ice. I was amazed at what I saw and said “Boy that’s bad”. He commented that this was a common problem. I asked him specifically if Samsung was aware of this problem and he said “Oh yes, they are aware”. He had the parts on hand and replaced the Evaporator Cover, Defrost sensor and defrosted the ice maker unit with a steamer and was done in 30 minutes to the tune of $353. I paid the man and the next morning filed for my reimbursement by calling Samsung. I was given another ticket number and email address to send my scan of the workorder. I asked how the reimbursement was going to come and the representative named [REDACTED] said “usually by check”. I sent the invoice and received an email from Samsung the next day saying “We are sorry to hear that you’re experiencing an issue with your Samsung Refrigerator and that you’ve received a warranty ruling you do not agree with. We know it is frustrating for any product to fail, whether in-or-out of warranty. We certainly never like to hear of any of our products failing at any age. Samsung believes in building quality products and we apologize all of your expectations of us have not been met. We value our relationship and are committed to providing the highest level of service simply because our customers deserve it.” I immediately contacted Samsung and was told that “the ticket says if the problem was the cooling system condenser they would reimburse parts and labor.” I elevated the problem to four different customer service representatives who said they couldn’t authorize the reimbursement ending up with [REDACTED] who said he could do nothing else and he was the highest customer service person I could speak to. I paid over $2300 for a refrigerator that should have lasted more than 3 years. This is not a warranty issue this is a safety issue. We were eating food and taking medicines that were not preserved. There should be a safety recall issued for this refrigerator because it does not cool nor operate as it was designed and consumers are goin to get sick from eating spoiled food.

We purchased our Samsung refrigerator Model RF23HCEDBSR in March 2016, and it was professionally installed by Sears. We did not move into our home until after the renovations were completed 9/2017) so the refrigerator was only in use approximately 2 years. We noted just a few short months later that the ice was sort of slushy, and would leak, but due to a family health issue, didn’t really attend to the problem. The ice maker would consistently freeze up, and my husband would have to unplug it for 2 days to unthaw, and then we would have to start over again. Soon after, we all began to have ongoing stomach problems, which I credited to stomach viruses, until my husband realized that the inside temperature of our refrigerator wasn’t as cool as the outside stated it was. He bought an internal thermometer to monitor, and realized our refrigerator was spiking temps up to 68, effectively causing our food to spoil and causing food poisoning. After several calls and messages to Samsung, they (as of today) have not addressed the issue, even though we have proven this was occurring, and the certified technicians they’ve sent to repair our unit have also concurred. We have now lost thousands in food loss and doctor visits for stomach problems that have really amounted to food poisoning. We want to alert as many people as we can so that others will begin to monitor their own inside temps manually, to ascertain correct food storage safety.

Product Manufacturer: Samsung Model: RF23HTEDBSR/AA Serial Code: 0ALM4BBH500312B

Our fridge has a defect in design that is known by the manufacturer but the product has not been officially recalled and no public statement of any sort was issued to alert the consumers. Our Samsung refrigerator was bought on June 30,2016 from Home Depot for $2,143.85. Our fridge door displays different temperature compared the food and air inside the fridge (even after rebooting the system and setting the unit to the manufacturer’s endorsed setting of 38F the air inside the fridge does not go below FDA recommended temperature of 40F). Below are unfortunate events that lead us to discover this defect. On November 12, 2019 my 2.5 old son got sick (diarrhea and vomiting) these symptoms continued for the next 7 days. Three days later, on November 15, 2019 my 7 week old got sick with shortness of breath, temperature of 101.1 and diarrhea. We called our pediatrician – and because of the age of the youngest – were advised to go to Urgent Care/Night Light Pediatrics. The immediate blood work showed negative for Flu, RSV, Strep and we got a diagnosis of “acute diarrhea and acute gastroenteritis.” On November 15, and November 16, 2019 the Urgent Care clinic administered two shots of [REDACTED] for my newborn; blood work and culture samples were taken and sent outside clinic for further testing. Over the weekend (November 16-17) my husband and our friend got the same symptoms: diarrhea and vomiting that – after strict diet, anti-diarrhea medicine and probiotics – have cleared on its own in the next few days.

Our Fridge was set properly, per manufacturer recommendation, at 38F; however, the temperature inside the fridge ranged between 40F-50F. On November 17th we contacted Samsung customer support via on-line chat and the manufacturer’s representative stated: “It will happen sometimes and it will be alright when you do unplug and re plug […] It’s just temperature fluctuations. [And] I am positive it will work.” Based on these responses, the manufacturer is aware of the product defect and failed to inform the customers about the problem and/or recall the product.

It is clear that my family suffered because of the unit failure and known defect by the manufacturer. However, at this point there is no public announcement and/or recall. We feel it is our duty to file with your agency and inform you of this potential deadly defect in the unit’s design.

Our Samsung refrigerator froze up in the back panel and had unsafe temperatures for food. After it was fixed it continued to freeze up and water would pool under our deli drawer and mold was growing in the bottom. We continue to have wavering temperatures that go out of the safe zone for food. Samsung is aware of the design flaw and that there is no fix for it, but is saying we need to pay for a technician to come out and “fix” it again.

The product, in the report: Samsung Refrigerator model # RF323TEDBSR

I have a Samsung French door refrigerator, model RF323TEDB. This model is currently part of a class action lawsuit because of its inability to maintain safe temperatures. I have had four separate repairs on this unit since its purchase in 2012. The repairs were all related to the ice maker freezing over and the water lines getting clogged. I did not realize that the ice maker freezing over was causing the fan to be less effective at circulating the cold air. Today a repair tech came out for the fourth repair. While he was here, he checked the internal and external temperatures of the unit. The external back of the unit had experienced some rust due to a cold spot on the back that was condensing and then dripping. The tech measured a considerable temperature difference between one part of the back and the rest of the back of the unit. He determined this to be a manufacturing defect due to insufficient insulation. More concerning, however, was that when he measured the temperature of the interior of the unit, no part of the fridge was colder than 48 degrees. This was in spite of the fact that the display panel of the fridge was showing that the fridge was set to 36 degrees and that the fridge should have, in fact been 36 degrees. No amount of tinkering will fix this issue as the display is programed to show one temperature regardless of the actual temperature of the unit. I have a documented visit to the doctor from March of last year where my two of my children were so sick they needed to be medicated to stop vomiting. My husband, older son, his girlfriend, and my mother were also affected. We fear the erratic temperature of the refrigerator may be to blame.

I have contacted Samsung about this issue, including details about my children’s illnesses, the multiple attempted repairs on the unit, and the opinion of the most recent repair tech that this problem is not a fixable problem but is in fact a manufacturing defect. Samsung will not agree to pay for any repairs or the original cost of the unit. They repeatedly tell me that it is outside of the warranty period. However, this is not a wear and tear issue. This is a defect in the design and could not have been fixed regardless of age.

10/2019: The consumer realized that their milk was spoiling faster than it should, but he was not sure why.

The consumer purchased a thermometer and placed it in the refrigerator. The refrigerator itself was set to 35 degree, but the thermometer registered temperatures above 50 degrees. The consumer placed the thermometer in different locations inside the refrigerator and the results were still higher than what the refrigerator was set to.

The consumer has called several local service technicians and they were aware of the problem with this manufacturer’s refrigerator. All the technicians indicated that they do not work on this manufacturer’s brand of refrigerators and this was one of the reasons. The consumer noted that they were “not” Samsung technicians.

The consumer conducted an on-line search and found that many other people experienced similar issues with this brand of refrigerator and could not solve the problem. Some people claim to have spent several dollars attempting to resolve the issue, unsuccessfully.

The consumer has experienced problems with the refrigerator’s ice maker. The ice maker gets clogged up, but will still work.

Next, there is a fan that is supposed to blow cold air from the freezer into the refrigerator. Water drips down around this fan. The fan gets blocked when the ice maker gets clogged. This prevents the circulation of cold air through the refrigerator. [Based on the consumer’s issue and his research, he believes that this the problem].

He notes that this is labor intensive and he could not figure out how to get to the fan portion to try and fix the problem.

The consumer said this is an extreme health hazard, because he is not sure how long the problem has been occurring and he and his family have been consuming food from the refrigerator. He is not sure if any past illnesses may have been related to this issue.

    To whom it may concern:

I’m hoping you all can help me. My Samsung Refrigerator has become a danger to myself and my family including my elderly grandmother and very young children. Because of the lack of a response from anyone from Samsung including their of the president regarding my Better Business Bureau Claim, I am assuming that they have chosen to ignore my issues with the multiple defects I have been experiencing for 4 years with my constantly malfunctioning Samsung Refrigerator. I’ve complied with all requests and they have shown no willingness whatsoever to resolve this. That’s unfortunate because I was willing to negotiate a resolution in good faith. They’ve forced me to pursue other means to get a satisfactory resolution.

    • I’ve contacted for the second time, the New Jersey Better Business Bureau. They have noted Samsung is refusing to offer a reasonable resolution to my complaint. My filed complaint will remain open until this is resolved.

    • I am now contacting you with all with my supporting evidence I can to detail my claim of improper maintenance of safe temperatures in the refrigerator. I am approaching loss of food cost at $1,000. Myself, my two year old child and my 101 year old grandmother have become digestively ill due to food borne illnesses caused by unsafe Refrigerator temperatures

    • I am providing supporting evidence to my attorney at [REDACTED], who are prepared to pursue legal action against Samsung.

    • I’m providing any evidence of the issues with my refrigerator to any news media outlets who are interested (and there are several).

    • I am contacting the Florida State Office of Consumer Affairs to ask them to look into Samsung’s lack of response to wronged consumers.

Samsung could have settled this with me by now and I would have happily gone away and put this behind me. But their inactions are pushing me to take this public and do what I have to do. There’s over 5,000 people in the [REDACTED] group aware of your wrongdoings who are experiencing problems. This group has new members asking to be added everyday! That’s just the tip of the iceberg for Samsung. I’ve had enough of owning a nearly $2,700 refrigerator that won’t make ice, won’t keep my food at safe temperatures and has shelves collapsing and smashing glass bottles onto my kitchen floor putting my guests myself and my family at serious risks. If my refrigerator was used in a restaurant, it would have been shutdown by the health inspectors.

Below please find documentation of the numerous times I have reached out to Samsung to try to find anyone willing to handle my dangerous defective refrigerator.

My refrigerator is becoming a danger to my family and is making them sick. My case has been referred to [REDACTED] but she has been ignoring me and lying to me. Here is the detailed message I sent to the Better Business Bureau after fighting my case for 4 years

Hello BBB. My husband & I purchased a new Refrigerator from Sears for $2,647.88 on June 9th 2014. It was delivered & installed July 7th 2014. The refrigerator worked great until just weeks over 1yr. Shelves & drawers cracked & began to cave even though we had used it only for regular grocery items. Sears referred me to Samsung since the defects appeared past 1yr. The Samsung agent I spoke to claimed my warranty did not cover physical damage & I would need to purchase new shelving & drawers. I stated I didn’t do anything to break the drawers & shelves & didn’t feel it was my responsibility. I was put on hold & passed around. Every agent agreed I would be responsible for the repairs. I spent $279.32 on the replacements 5/9/16 when the fridge became nearly unusable from the defective shelving.

Less than a month later everything we replaced broke again in the same way. I called again & was told I was obviously not using my refrigerator for what it was designed for & that again I would need to purchase replacements! I have dealt w/ several shelves & drawers still broken. Months after my replacements cracked & broke, my upper ice machine stopped functioning. I called again. I was told I was out of warranty but they could send a technician to fix my machine at 100% my cost parts & labor. Samsung again refused to take responsibility for my obviously defective unit. Honestly I didn’t have any more time to spend fighting w/ a company that obviously didn’t care about me, their customer, so I gave up & for the 2nd time & dealt w/ a refrigerator that only partially worked.

Now my family is dealing w/ illness issues that I assumed were stomach flus. In the past few weeks I have noticed my meat, dairy, fruit & vegetable groceries spoiling quickly after purchase & before their expiration date. I bought a separate refrigerator thermometer showing my refrigerators temp to be over 50F My refrigerator is set to 36F. I contacted Samsung yet again & again they refuse to provide a reasonable solution.

I need to be refunded the full cost of my Samsung refrigerator, the cost of my replacement shelves & drawers that were obviously defective from the start, the food I have lost due to improper cooling defects & the separate thermometer I purchased to provide Samsung proof. I have young children & a 101 year old live in grandmother. Feeding them food from this fridge could be life threatening. The shelves & drawers are a hazard as well. Last night my friend opened our fridge & one of the door shelves came crashing down on her bare feet along w/ 6 small glass bottles of salad dressing & sauces. There was broken glass & a very slippery floor surface everywhere. I can no longer “just deal” with how dangerous this refrigerator has become in more ways than one. I need to be able to replace this entire refrigerator as soon as possible. The last time I contacted support they asked for a case number. Every agent I have spoken w/ never gave me a case number, just advised I was out of warranty.

I submitted my BBB complaint on September 23rd 2019 at 11:10pm after I had to discard more spoiled food, my friend was injured from my defective shelving and after years and numerous attempts for Samsung to hear my obvious defects and do the right thing by me, their customer. Two days later, [REDACTED] from Samsungs Office of the President called me on September 25th at 12:40pm. During our recorded phone conversation, she issued me a claim number of [REDACTED]. She reviewed with me all of my issues as stated in my BBB complaint including my broken shelves and drawers, broken ice machine and my malfunctioning cooling system. I stated I wanted a full refund of $3,127.20 which included the cost of my refrigerator, the cost of replacing my defective shelving, the cost of the separate internal refrigerator thermometer I purchased to show proof of temperature malfunction and partial cost of the 100’s of dollars of food I have lost (I have been informed that $200 in the max, which I far surpassed). She seemed to care and understand my frustration, but stated since Samsung had never serviced my unit, she would need to schedule a technician to attempt to repair all my issues first. If the defects could not be repaired, other measures would then be taken, but I must allow technician service at least once for Samsung to move any further with my case. I reiterated and confirmed with [REDACTED] that ALL of my defects documented in my BBB report would be repaired and she stated YES. In good faith I agreed to the service appointment.

On September 26th 2019 at 9:50am, [REDACTED] called me to set up the repair appointment. She again confirmed my shelving and drawer defects, my ice machine defect and my cooling system defect. She asked for additional details and requested I send detailed photos of everything broken in my refrigerator which I sent to her that day. She confirmed a technician would be to my home sometime on Monday September 30th 2019 and that I would receive a phone call at 9am that day to confirm a 2 hour window.

On Friday September 27th at 5:49pm a supervisor from [REDACTED] called me to inform that they would not be servicing my refrigerator Monday or ever. When I asked them why, they wouldn’t explain, they just kept saying call Samsung and that they already called Samsung themselves to say they weren’t servicing my fridge. I don’t at all understand why [REDACTED] herself didn’t immediately call me to reschedule with another repair company. I called her back at her extension immediately but quickly realized it was after business hours and the office would be closed until Monday. I immediately sent her a detailed email of what had occurred with [REDACTED]. No email back and no call.

I called [REDACTED] again Monday September 30th 2019 at 9:00am. I left a message on her voicemail. I called back immediately to try to speak to the first available agent and got another agents voicemail. No call back from either

I called again, yesterday October 1st 2019 and again left a message on [REDACTED] voicemail. I called again to attempt to get the first available agent on the phone. An agent named [REDACTED] answered my call but did not want my details or to help me in any way other than making sure she got [REDACTED] to answer my call. [REDACTED] wouldn’t come to the phone, so [REDACTED] took my message but wouldn’t help me in any other way. [REDACTED] would not call me back. I waited all day and she finally emailed me after business hours at 5:38pm stating since my shelves were broken Samsung wouldn’t service my fridge at all????

    This was my response:

    [REDACTED],

I have three issues. My fridge will NOT stay cool and my food is continuing to spoil. My ice machine is broken AND I have shelves and drawers that are broken to to defects (not misuse). I already replaced the defective shelving at my personal expense once, and they immediately broke again. I am well aware of the class action lawsuits against Samsung and that a complete refund is due to me. I accepted your offer that ALL my manufacturer defects be repaired as a first step in good faith.

On our recorded call, you stated all of my issues I reported to the Better Business Bureau would be addressed and repaired at no cost to me. I even repeated myself and asked you again if everything would be fixed and you said yes.

Please either have [REDACTED] fix all my issues or send a technician/company who can. Anything less is unacceptable. If you are again unwilling to help me and if I need to go back through the BBB, the Attorney General or have contact with my own personal attorney to have my 4 year ongoing issues resolved, please advice of that.

Thank you for you immediate attention to this matter

    [REDACTED]

She refuses to email me or call me back.

I’m really unsure why Samsung has refused to help me for years as my very expensive refrigerator continues to deteriorate and put my families health and safety at risk. The more time that continues to pass the more my family is losing and experiencing hardships. I feel that if no one will help me at this point, I will have no choice but to continue to pursue legal action with my attorney who will also charge Samsung legal fees when I take my case to small claims court here in Florida. I really don’t want it to get to that point. I’m simply asking for the $3,127.20 that’s the minimal due to me so that I may replace my refrigerator with a fully functioning unit. With the loss of my food the total is well over $4,000 to date.

There are literally thousands of consumers that are victims just like me. I’m hoping you all can help alert other consumers of these dangerous appliances Samsung continues to sell. I’m also hopeful a full recall will take place and Samsung will redesign more effective dependable safe products.

Thank you So much for your time,

    [REDACTED]

Product: Samsung French Door Refrigerator Model: RF31FMESBSR Serial Number: W65143BD401254B Purchase Price: $2699.99 + 8.0% Sales Tax = $2,915.99 Purchase Date: 05/21/2013

PROBLEM STATEMENT: Samsung has over 20 models of refrigerators with a known defect that causes their refrigerators to operate at UNSAFE temperatures. The defect causes the fridge section evaporator to freeze over so much that the ice build-up hits the circulation fan, a causing loud, unsettling noise. This ice over the evaporator also prevents the proper circulation of cold air inside the refrigerator, causing the temperature to rise to unsafe levels for proper food storage.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Our family has been having stomach issues off and on for the past few years. Not enough to go to the hospital, but a lot of feelings of queasiness, discomfort, and diarrhea. At first, we thought that it may have been due to food quality, so we start buying more premium brands and all organic product. When that didn’t help, we started a food log to try to establish a pattern to rule out food allergies. However, we could not find any consistencies.

However, after I saw on my local news about defective Samsung refrigerators, we did more research and found that there are thousands of people experiencing the same issue. We were shocked to discover that this is not a warranty issue - this is a known factory defect issue with zero fixes on over 20 models and is currently in class action court.

I then purchased a refrigerator thermometer and recorded the inside temperatures at random intervals. I have been recording for a few days now and refrigerator temperature is consistently higher than the indicated temperature on the display panel. The refrigerator is set to 38 Degrees Fahrenheit (DF), but the actual temperature is above the safe zone averaging around 45 DF. It gets worse - after the evaporator freezes up again, I see temperatures between 50-60 DF. When the evaporators get extremely frozen over and the fan hits the ice, the inside temperature feels like room temperature.

The defect defects are: 1) The evaporator coils freeze, which prevents cold air from circulating properly - increasing the inside temperature to unsafe levels, and 2) the temperature reading of the refrigerator is false/misleading, which causes consumers to believe their food is safe when it is not.

Ultimately, the design defects are causing my family (and other unsuspecting consumers) to think their food is safe to consume, even though the temperatures are at UNSAFE levels for days, weeks, even months!

SAMSUNG RESPONSE: Samsung has not been forthcoming about this issue. Many people I have spoken to have had Samsung try to dismiss their claims by saying this is a warranty issue when this is a known factory defect issue. Samsung has tried to get customers to PAY for repairs that are ultimately temporary and futile because there are ZERO fixes for any of the 20+ affect models - ZERO FIXES!

DESIRED RESOLUTION: I would like Samsung to provide me and my family a FULL refund of the $2,915.99 purchase price of the refrigerator due to it harming my family because of its design flaw and factory defect causing it to operate at unsafe temperatures and misleading us with a false temperature reading.

I would like for Samsung to also provide refunds/restitution to harmed consumers for their full purchase price including the removal, destruction, and recycling of all defective Samsung refrigerators.

I have had a Samsung refrigerator since 2013. I was just made aware by a repair technician they do not cool to the appropriate temperatures even though the display shows the correct temperature. Food has always spoiled before the expiration date. In January of 2015 my infant son was hospitalized due to an unknown infection. I now wonder if it could have been caused by a bacteria from improperly stored breastmilk.

The product, in the report: Samsung Counter Depth Refridgerator. Model RF23HCEDBSR/AA,

In June of 2015 I bought a brand new Samsung Fridge to replace an older model that was too big for the space, By Summer of 2016 the icemaker had quit, and I had to replace 2 right door bins ($35 each) that simply shattered. I live alone so no one else uses the fridge. I replaced all three door bins over the next 2 years twice, but didn’t replace the latest one to fail. The ice maker I went without fixing until Aug of 2017 ( long story) when I had the money to have it fixed. $154.06. The fix lasted 6 months. It has not worked until I had another major issue. Apparently around May of this year the evaporator fan froze over. I had no indication of when or how as the front control panel assured me the temp was 34 degrees. However, I noticed I kept having issues with food going bad and being sick. In June 2019 I got sick and my youngest cat got sick after eating left over food. The cat was ill for a month ($400 or more) and I had near constant diarrhea. By the end of the month I stuck a thermometer in the fridge and found the true temp was 50 degrees. I called for repairs and after waiting another week got the fridge repaired for $424.18. He also thawed the ice maker. However, I also have found the water filter is unmovable- it must be frozen in place. The ice maker “fix” ie silicon sealant lasted 2 weeks. It is currently frozen over. The button on top of the left door that controls the flap to seal the fridge broke off sometime during this summer. I have yet to find out where it is. This fridge is unsafe and unreliable to the extreme that I find myself shopping for another fridge ( saving my money now) and telling everyone I meet to avoid Samsung. I’ve met one person (and I’ve told lots and found lots who were doing what I was) who has had hers for 8 years with no problems. I told her good luck.

We loved our refrigerator when we first bought it for our new house. Then, just out of warranty the freezer cooling coils broke. We had to have them replaced because it was causing the ice maker to freeze up and the refrigerator to not be able to maintain a stable temperature. A week later the ice maker broke again. Our technician advised we do a manual defrost cycle every other week for as long as we owned the refrigerator because he repairs one with this problem every week. A few months later the ice maker froze up again and we had the repair company back out. During this time the ice maker started leaking constantly all over the floor, dispensing half cups of water along with ice, and mildew started growing all over it. We also all started getting stuffy noses, sore throats, and other respiratory symptoms which I believe is a result of the mildew in the ice dispenser because they have cleared up now that we have stopped using the ice maker for a couple weeks and these symptoms went on for nearly a year and affected our whole family! Several months later the coils froze up again and the ice maker stopped working so I had no ice maker but also my temperature in my refrigerator was not staying constant as a result. Food was spoiling and I have a child with medication that needs to be kept at a stable temperature. This is terribly unsafe. We would often open the refrigerator to find my daughter’s milk spoiled even though it was only a few Days old. Sometimes the temperature is cold, sometimes it is around 56-72 degrees when using a grill thermometer. The thermometer on the refrigerator always reads cold even though this is clearly inaccurate. This refrigerator is dangerous to have in our home because of how inconsistent it is.

The Samsung refrigerator model RF23HCEDBSR/AA has a faulty sensor that shows incorrect temperature readings on the door to consumers. The temperature on the door always reads 37 degrees for the fridge and 0 for the freezer. The fridge has felt warm and I have taken the temperature inside and it is much higher than 37. Last week I ate chicken, and realized it was spoiled. The freezer is now completely warm and all food has defrosted. The temperature on the door still says 0 degrees. I used the quick freeze button and the temperature supposedly dropped to - 8 degrees according to the door. Everything remains melted, watery, spoiled and gross.

The product, in the report: 2015 Samsung French Door Refrigerator Model: RF260BEAESR Stainless Steel Finish

We started experiencing problems with our 2015 Samsung French Door Refrigerator, model RF260BEAESR, in April 2019. We started noticing a loud banging noise that happened for about a week, then stopped. Shortly after, the temperature did not feel cold, even though the display registered 35 degrees. That’s when we bought a refrigerator thermometer. On any given day it would read anywhere from 58-65 degrees! We called a repairman who came and assessed the problem. Over the course of the summer, he was at our house 4 times. Replacing the defrost heater didn’t fix the unsafe temperatures, so he replaced the drain in the back. That seemed to solve the problem for about a week. Then, it was right back to high temperatures and spoiled food. Over the course of the summer, I had to personally defrost the ice buildup in the refrigerator 3 times. My repairman, [REDACTED] from Walters Appliance Repair, defrosted it twice. Each time that was done, the fridge would get significantly cooler, but it never lasted more than two weeks. During that time, I had to repeatedly haul bags and bags of food to and from my neighbor’s refrigerators multiple times, and live out of coolers in my kitchen. We went on two vacations this summer and both times, we left thinking the fridge was fixed, only to come home and find that all of the food in it had spoiled, because during that time the temperatures rose to unsafe levels again. I have thrown out so much food it’s unbelievable. The most upsetting part of this whole ordeal is how it has negatively impacted my children. My toddler drinks milk three times a day. Before I knew that something was faulty with the fridge, I was giving her milk like usual. She vomited twice and had severe diarrhea several times during a two-week period. Once we discovered the problem and stopped using milk from the fridge, her gastro-intestinal issues stopped. My son also experienced gastro-intestinal distress from eating bacon and eggs from the refrigerator, before we were aware that the temperatures were not safe. Both of them were miserable during that time. Not to mention, my husband and I were both affected as well. We experienced stomach upset, heartburn and indigestion, and heachaches. We are lucky that the worst of what our family experienced was severe vomiting and diarrhea, and that nothing far worse happened. Because it easily could have with food that had not been kept properly cool.

The product, in the report: I bought a brand new house from a developer that included a Samsung refrigerator, model # RF260BEAESR/AA. The compressor and internal circuitry are malfunctioning and not making ice. The temperature in the LED display does not match the actual temperature in the fridge. It is hotter than the displayed temperature. Due to this malfunction, our food was dangerously spoiled most of the times and we’ve had bouts of food poisoning twice in one week, one was on August 12, 2019 and the other on August 13, 2019. At about 2:00am, we were wakened up by stomach pain and urge to vomit. We had projectile vomiting. We were having diarrhea due to the leftover food we ate that previous night. My husband had to go to work that morning and he was miserable. We reported this dangerous inability of the refrigerator to keep cold temperature and the refrigerator was repaired on August 29,2019. The Samsung Tech found the problem and that is a freezing back panel which is a closed circuit panel included in the design of the product. The Samsung Tech defrosted the ice built up using a blow dryer and changed the sensor. It never fixed the problem. We still have a warm refrigerator, the ice maker is not making ice anymore. I haven’t called Samsung again because I found out that there is no remedy for the problem but a refund. I don’t want to schedule any more fixes on this as the problem is the flawed design of internal parts that freezes no matter what. If you need to view more evidence of my case, please feel free to contact me. Thank you.

Samsung Refrigerator model # RF260BEAESR/AA was bought brand new with the brand new house from a Developer. It started making clanking noise randomly, then stopped maintaining temperature, then progressed to food poisoning and unable to make ice. Samsung Tech was called once to fix the problem and identified that the cause of the problem is a freezing sealed compartment located at the twin cooling system compartment. Through research and complaints by many consumers evidence ed by news reports from all over the United States, there is no remedy but to redesign the refrigerator as even if there are more than 3 service calls or more(testified by thousands of consumers), the problem still exists. Please refer to the group Samsung Refrigerator Recall USA Now for testimonies of thousands of consumers having the same problems, most unable to get a refund but many have been granted full refunds including food spoilage.

The product, in the report: Samsung French door refrigerator with bottom drawer freezer and ice maker/water dispenser in the door. This model was actually a replacement for the Samsung we purchased in Sept. 2018. A week after it was installed that ice maker stopped working. It took us months to get a replacement.

My sister placed her cup inside the space on the front of our refrigerator to get ice cubes and a thumb tack fell into her cup. Fortunately she saw it before she could ingest the tack.

I took a photo of the tack and contacted Samsung (the maker of said refrigerator) through Facebook and they basically questioned my sanity.

At the conclusion of the conversation thread I asked them to make sure they passed this on to their manufacturing end and was assured that would happen.

Samsung refrigerator not cooling. Model RF268ABRS. Ice forms on coils and thus form blocks of ice blocking cooling holes and over fan, disabling it. This disables cooling to main refrigerator. If you are away and not notice it, the temperature will drop below safe food storage levels and spoil or make unsafe food. My wife and I got sick on our own stored food we thought was safe. This is a national problem!

The product, in the report: Samsung stainless steel 4 door refridgerator.

I have a Samsung model RF28HMEDBSR refridgerator. There seem to be 1000s of these with the same problem. It started with the ice maker not working properly and continued to the display showing my refrigerator at 36 degrees, but the temperature inside the refridgerator is hovering between about 42 and 48 degrees. Samsung is aware of these problems but chooses to only help some of its consumers. Some receive a repair that lasts a few months, some receive refunds and some get nothing. My son randomly threw up three times the other day and I’m afraid it’s our refrigerator’s temperature that causing it. Please help. On the incident date Belen, I am putting the approximate date of when the ice maker started. The temperature problems started about a week ago that I’m aware of. Samsung offered to fix the ice maker issues, and asked me to give them one day to set up a repair ticket. After that, they stopped responding to me, never set up the promised repair, and will not respond to my emails or voicemail messages.

The product, in the report: Samsung 4 Door French Door Refrigerator model RF28HMEDBSR/AA

Samsung Refrigerator control panel displays fridge temp of 36, stand alone thermometer shows internal temp is actually 45.1. Have been tracking since unit was repaired and temp jumps around to 48 but never goes below 45.

First time i was aware of the problem was when unit froze on 7/29/19. Internal temp was 62.4 but control panel said 38. Since then, I have been taking video of temp differences.

Verified thermometer is accurate, used an instant read thermometer to test ice water and put stand alone thermometer in baggie in water and both read same temp.

Also have glasses of water in different parts of fridge and testing with instant read thermometer and getting same temp as stand alone thermometer.

This problem has likely been going on for awhile. I just always believed control panel. But one child in house has had stomach issues off and on for the past two years. I don’t know for sure if this is why but have learned never to trust control panel again. Everyone should have a few stand alone thermometers in their fridge & freezer.

The product, in the report: Samsung french door refridgerator with icemaker in the door. Mine is model: RF28HDEDBSR/AA serial no: 06EC43AH601486E

The issue is with the Samsung icemaker on the French door style refrigerators. Mine is model: RF28HDEDBSR/AA. The icemaker regularly frosts over causing ice to get jammed. Owners then have to clear the ice themselves. The problem is the area is very small and difficult to get to. I have scraped and cut my hands each time this happens. A refrigerator repairman told me that Samsung knows about the issue and changed icemaker manufacturers a year ago. I’ve posted about this issue on both [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] social media. I received enough responses to know the issue/danger is pervasive in the marketplace.

The top icemaker in my Samsung model RF28HFEDTBC/AA continues to freeze up. The frost continues to build up until it stops working. The product, in the report: 24.6 cu foot French-door refrigerator, brushed black steel finish. Has ice-maker in bottom pull-out draw section. Has a “fresh food” separate areas with three choices of temperatures.

We own a Samsung french door/fresh food refrigerator with ice-maker, model [REDACTED], bought in October 2018. (retail price $1500). We have been risking our health by continuing to use this refrigerator as inside temperatures are HIGHER than what the electronic display shows. The Samsung shows inaccurate and misleading temperatures and we consumers are eating unsafe foods for a long time before we realize the dangers! Our family consists of two seniors and a young nursing Mother with children. In May 2019, we returned home to find most freezer foods partially-thawed & refrigerator temps between 50-60 F degrees. (FYI< the ONLY Samsung-service tech in desolate Yuma AZ also travels 2 hours away to service Samgsungs & is closed on weekends so service calls are a week or more out. I unplugged, plugged and after an hour the refrigerator started working, threw out most all foods. We’ve been monitoring the temperatures with four different refrigerator gauges and we’re taking chanceseating foods in the fridge- we constantly get sick and we suspect the fridge foods are not staying consistently at safe temperatures. WE can’t afford to keep buying foods to replace suspected-unsafe foods in the fridge. The upper display ALWAYS shows 37F but fridge foods are not very cold. On July 13, we woke to partially-thawed freezer items again & not-too-cool refrigerator foods. This time, I called Samsung and a service call (after nearly a week and a half wait!!!) & he replaced all major parts (including the circuitry board) except for the compressor. I threw out all foods & bought a mini refrigerator to keep critical, perishable items in & just kept condiments, fruit in the Samsung to see if it was fixed. A few days after the service, all my temperature gauges showed around 45-48 yet the top display read 37F .I placed another service call and waited a long time again for service. This time, the tech (who initially TOLD ME Samsung refrigerators have design defects but he makes lots of $$’s from “repairing” them then “repairing” them again as the same defective parts are put in the defective appliance) said my four different refrigerator gauges were not accurate & he told me to buy a very expensive probe type....two of my gauges were sold to me by Lowe’s are are “refrigerator gauges). I had to cancel the service call or he said Samsung would bill me. Samsung must acknowledge their design flaws that allow the digital temp display to show normal safe temperatures yet in the refrigerator temperatures are higher. There are many consumers risk food health and safety because the temperatures rise without the consumer knowing. Most foods are NOT safe to eat if they’re stored in a Samsung refrigerator. Samsung must issue recalls for all their refrigerators made within the last year and Consumer Reports must be notified of the dangers. Samsung’s negligence in this matter will not be tolerated and consumers will get justice, satisfaction and restitution for the full purchase price including removal and destruction and recycling of all the defective Samsung Refrigerators.

The product, in the report: French door refrigerator

This is in regards to a Samsung refrigerator bought in August of 2014. We noticed that the contents of the refrigerator didn’t seem as cool as they should be. The temperature was set at 34F. The digital readout that’s supposed to state the actual temperature also reads 34F. I bought and placed an appliance thermometer in the fridge. Temperature reads 50F after 24 hours, and now is at a constant 55-60F. Digital readout STILL reads 34F. I do not know how long that my family and I have been eating food at unsafe temperatures, as we did not notice until the food and liquids felt considerably warmer than normal. My family and i have experienced many stomach issues over the past 5 years, and i can’t help but wonder if it was due to eating food at unsafe temps. This is the second time in less than 5 years that we’ve had the same issue. Both times also resulted in loss of hundreds of dollars of food. This issue is due to a WELL KNOWN defect and design flaw by Samsung, which they refuse to acknowledge. Samsung needs to take ownership of an issue that can be dangerous to the health and safety of their consumers.

The product, in the report: Stainless steel 3 French door refigerator by Samsung used to keep food cold .

We have owned a Samsung French door stainless steel fridge since 2016. It is not cooling properly. The sensor at the top is a digital reading and it reads 32 to 34 degrees when it is actually between 42 to 58 degrees.I have had food spoilage and food poisoning because of this. I now keep a thermometer in my fridge so I can know when it is unsafe then throw away the food and manually defrost. By unplugging and waiting for the ice under the twin cooling fan to melt. This can take up to 3 to 5 days without a working fridge. It is happening more and more frequently. Last incident was June 26th. The time before last was Easter. I got a severe case of food poisoning. Now my husband is sick and it is food poisoning . Check temperature and it is 56. Spoiled brand new milk again. I have thrown away hundreds of dollars of food away then Samsung wants me to pay 80.00 plus parts to fix, when there is no fix. The same parts and the same problem happens again and again. This is a real safety concern for my and many other owners.

The product, in the report: Samsung RFG297AARS Refrigerator , 28.5 CuFt Serial C78543CZ102459K; Back Pain from jerking refrigerator from wall. No other choice as it was an emergency.

We bought a home in Chapin, SC 29036 [Columbia] in June 2016. The original owners sold the Samsung RFG297AARS Refrigerator with the home. We have had issues with the Ice maker since 2016. On Friday, July 19, 2019 I tried to get some ice for my water glass but none dispensed. At that point I just walked away but then returned about 20 seconds later when I heard a whirring whizzing sound come from the Filter Housing. Not knowing what was going on I opened the Refrigerator door and water was gushing out from the Housing above the Filter. My wife and I were stunned and at first I didn’t know what to do as NO mechanism exists to shut it off so at that point I physically pulled the entire Refrigerator out from the surrounding Cabinets. By the time I was able to shut off the in wall ice maker water line valve the Refrigerator and kitchen floor was flooded and it was draining into the lower rooms. All of this transpired within 3 minutes and we have a hardwood floor that now has cupped boards. As I write this the water remains turned off and I will have the Refrigerator repaired by a Samsung OEM recommended repair service on 26Jul19. PLEASE NOTE THAT A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT FOR ICE MAKER ISSUES IS ONGOING FOR REFRIGERATORS MANUFACTURED AFTER 2010 BY [REDACTED]. IS THIS A PRECURSOR TO HOME FLOODING IN FUTURE? This almost destroyed our home AND IT WOULD HAVE of part would have ruptured while not at home, it would have flooded two entire floors. This is serious FOR EVERYONE

The product, in the report: refrigerator. french door, bottom freezer, ice maker in refrigerator door

We have a Samsung refrigerator that should be recalled. It is incapable of maintaining a reliable safe food temperature, even though the sensor will say that it is within range. It is a French door model with an ice maker in the door. Model rfg297aawp. We have attempted to have it repaired. Samsung is incapable of repairing it.

We have spent nearly $1000 trying to have this nearly $3000 refrigerator repaired with no improvement. Samsung only allows authorized repair people to work on their refrigerators, however we can locate no such repair person in the large city that we work in. The only repair person that we were able to get to come look at the refrigerator had an extremely difficult time obtaining parts for the refrigerator. After that repairman fixed what he thought was broken, he found something else that he said needed repaired so charged us for another repair and part.

The refrigerator worked for a couple of months. It is back to extreme temperature fluctuations.

Then the ice maker stopped working. Then the refrigerator started leaking water behind it without us knowing, damaging our wood floor, dry wall, causing mold, and damaging the room downstairs below the refrigerator. The temperature is now fluctuating again.

Without putting 4 thermometers in the refrigerator in different areas and checking them at least daily, then we have no idea if our food has been kept at a safe temperature. I no longer trust it. Samsung has got to do something about this. Thousands of people have this same problem.

Our Samsung refrigerator/freezer which is chronically serviced due to faulty parts and function with typical, standard use, recently stopped working again, and although the digital thermostat indicator screen indicated 37*, it was 60* inside in actuality, putting myself, my children & my other family members at high risk of food borne illnesses. Our food was not being refrigerated and we had no idea, nor for how long. I contacted Samsung USA’s Office of the President who was entirely dismissive and unhelpful. After filing with BBB of NJ & Attorney General, Samsung reached back out to offer a free repair, which I had already had diagnosed and parts ordered by our current whole home service protection plan repair-person from BGE Home. I had no need for a different person to reinvent the wheel. There is a class action lawsuit currently in mediation regarding this faulty fridge model. The store where we purchased it, HH GREGG, has gone out of business & our warranty is expired. I do NOT trust this refrigerator at all & am fearful to continue using it. Although Samsung denies it, there are over half a million consumers affected by this faulty manufacturing. Google threads, YouTube videos & Facebook groups of many individuals who are all claiming the same thing! I want Samsung to be held accountable & I request they fully refund me as soon as possible
