I ended up with a form of food poisoning on two occasions due to inaccurate temperature readings in my Kenmore Elite refrigerator model 795.79029.313. It appeared to be running okay by the sound if it but I wasn’t alerted to significant temperature drops until I noticed that some of my frozen fruit in the freezer compartment was somewhat soggy. I then checked the temperature with a thermometer and got a reading of 47 degrees in the refrigerator section and 34 degrees in the freezer section. Throughout this whole time the refrigerator’s built-in digital readout was showing 0 degrees in the freezer section and 37 degrees in the refrigerator section. With that knowledge I knew where my symptoms of spoiled food poisoning arrived from. Luckily in my case it was just a case of the runs but as you know, it could have been deadly for me or anyone relying on the refrigerators own digital readout. With that said, my conscience regarding consumer safety couldn’t let this go unnoticed any longer.

Kenmore refrigerator model number 106.56982601 started catching on fire. The unit was bought new around 2006 - 2007. Today, there was a burnt wire smell coming from the kitchen, upon inspecting there was smoke coming out of the refrigerator at the ice maker control panel. The fire department was called and luckily the fire was caught in time and did not spread to other areas. The refrigerator has received regular use over the years in a family house setting. Luckily no one was injured, but I do have small children at home. This is the reason I have chosen to report this incident because others need to be aware of this possible defect/issue and prevent any loss of life.

To Whom It May Concern:
I am a Sears customer who purchased a refrigerator and warranty. Sears has engaged in deceptive and fraudulent practices and has refused to honor the terms and obligations outlined in their warranty.
In 2018, I purchased a Kenmore 795.5183 refrigerator from a Sears Department Store. At the time of purchase, the refrigerator was equipped with a manufacturer’s warranty. Within the first year of purchase, I began to have problems with the unit. Sears would come out, attempt a patch/fix on the refrigerator and then it would malfunction again, or some feature on it would stop working. Before the manufacturer’s warranty expired, I began purchasing a yearly Warranty from Sears to cover the refrigerator. The Warranty included repairing the unit or replacing the unit if it could not be repaired. Since 2018 I have experienced multiple breakdowns and malfunctioning of the unit yearly. Technicians have been sent to my home nearly 20 times to work on this lemon of a unit. Sears sent 2 outside contractors to address th issues and report back to them as well as their own technician. The technicians have ordered approximately 10-15 replacement parts and to date, the unit is still not functioning and leaking through my kitchen floor into my basement causing mold and wood rot In August of 2023, what had become a customary process, the refrigerator malfunctioned and stopped working. I lost food and Sears sent me a nominal food loss draft which did not nearly cover the cost of the amount of food lost. Since August, my refrigerator has not worked properly. The water/ice maker has not worked in over 7 months. The refrigerator side shuts down completely, meaning the refrigerator side or the freezer side stops functioning and or the ice maker stops working. In February 2024, the refrigerator began leaking. It leaks so much that it’s leaking into my basement damaging the floors beneath the refrigerator and causing mold damage as outlined above. The water is leaking directly onto electrical cad wiring The last technician was a Sears technician who still did not resolve the issues with this faulty unit. Each time a technician sets an appointment, either I or my sister will take a day off from work, to wait for the technician to arrive, and not repair the unit. Last November, Sears sent one of their technicians. He had been there several times before to no avail. I had been requesting a new replacement for the longest as it was absolutely absurd that this unit was constantly malfunctioning. After inspecting the unit in an attempt to repair it, the Sears technician agreed that a replacement unit was necessary. He further advised that he was going to make that recommendation to Sears. I spoke to him after he left my home, he advisd that he submitted the work order for the replacement unit. In approximately December 2023/January 2024, I reached out to Sears to inquire about the status of the replacement. The representative that I spoke to confirmed that I was in line for the replacement. The representative further advised that I would receive an email in 1-2 days with documentation to be completed which would initiate the replacement protocol. Days and weeks passed and I never received the email. I reached out to Sears in February 2024 inquiring about the status of the replacement. This representative advised me that despite their prior confirmation that a replacement was warranted, the technician who recommended the replacement allegedly did not correctly complete the paperwork and that it would be necessary for me to start the process again. That meant, a technician would have to come out to my home yet again and attempt to fix this unit that another technician stated needed to be replaced. Why do I have to bear the burden of the alleged improper completion of paperwork by their “experienced” technician? If it was completed incorrectly by the technician, why didn’t Sears reach out to the technician and instruct him to complete the paperwork properly? When did they discover this paperwork was allegedly completed incorrectly, before or after they confirmed that a replacement was approved? How can they approve the replacement then fail to honor that approval? Meanwhile, my floors, subloor and floor joists are wet, moldy and wood rotten. This constant leak is also a fire hazard! Furthermore, my refrigerator as of the date of this letter still is not functioning. All of the above failures and misleadings are indicative of the deceptive and fraudulent practices engaged by Sears. The same Sears technician who began servicing the unit in November 2023, and who informed me a replacement unit was needed, came to my home on February 16, 2024. He observed the leaking and did what he always does, ordered random parts and scheduled me for yet another appointment on March 1, 2024. The parts were delivered about a week before March 1. (Please see proof of delivery annexed hereto as Exhibit C.) I took off from work yet again for this issue to be resolved. I received text messages and emails regarding the appointment. The last text I received from Sears in regards to my appointment was at 5:35 PM on February 29, 2024 confirming same. However, at 8:02 AM on March 1, 2024, I received a text from Sears, stating that my previously confirmed appointment scheduled for that day had been rescheduled to March 15, 2024. (Please see appointment notifications annexed hereto as Exhibit D.) I immediately called Sears and advised them this again is unacceptable as (1) I had taken the day off from work to have this painstaking recurrent issue resolved (2) this constant leaking was causing severe damage to my home, making conditions unsafe and hazardous and (3) the problem needed to be remedied already. The first representative I spoke to told me that my appointment was back on for March 1 and assured me that the technician would call me within an hour to provide me with his arrival time. After not hearing back from the technician, I called Sears throughout the day and spoke with NINE different representatives. I requested to speak with a supervisor but never spoke with one. Finally at approximately 2:30 PM, another wasted day without resolution, the representative advised that the technician had just ordered additional parts that day. Why weren’t these parts ordered before the day of the appointment and what about the other 2 parts that were already ordered and sitting in my home waiting for someone to install them? The representative basically said I don’t have a choice but to wait until March 15, allowing more water damage to my home. The condition of the non working leaking refrigerator did not change from February 16 to March 1, 2024, so why the additional ordered parts? Sears never ever fixes the problem with this appliance. They don’t get to the root of the problem and instead allow the issue to fester, at the risk and peril of my life, home and peace of mind. This unit is beyond repair by the words of Sears’ own technician however, despite that, the company is sending him back to my home again for yet another attempt at “repair” which will be to no avail.
Sears is committing fraud with their cyclical practice of constantly ordering non descript parts, setting, confirming and cancelling appointments, and never addressing the true underlying issue. As such, Sears has breached their contract with me and their warranty/replacement duties by failing to adequately repair the unit and ultimately by failing to replace the unit despite their own technician’s recommendation that they do so. Nearly 20 repairs for one unit in 6 years is completely unacceptable. Allowing my home to continually sustain damage, mold and wood rot is unacceptable. Failing to honor the terms of the warranty contract via the provided replacement provision is unacceptable. The warranty contract indicates that the appliance would be replaced if it was deemed irreparable. It has been deemed irreparable by their technician, but they continue to attempt to initiate repairs on an appliance the “technician” stated needed to be replaced. Sears has failed to fully honor the warranty. Sears has breached their contract with me and I demand that they honor the contract, replace this lemon unit and repair the damage caused to my floors. They are putting my home at risk for fire, mold and thereby risking my life!!! This is horrendous and egregious on the part of Sears. Please be advised that I am filing Complaints with the [REDACTED], State of New Jersey and Federal Trade Commission. This matter is of dire urgency due to the water rotting wood in my home and leaking onto wiring which can cause fire! I do not understand how it is possible or legal for Sears to continue to sell and fail to honor appliance warranties!

Kenmore I trusted you and you have let me down. We had Sears Technician [REDACTED] come over and try to fix our Refrigerator and told us our compressor is out and it wont be covered because [REDACTED] compressor was only 5 years when everyone else got 10 years. We own a Kenmore Elite French door refrigerator. Over the past week, we noticed the refrigerator wasn’t feeling quite so cool but the temperature display was reading 37 degrees. The compressor failed on 7/18/23 but the digital gauge continued to read 37°. The refrigerator was warm inside and we realized we had been eating food stored at unsafe temperatures for a week. Three of us experienced intestinal distress over the past 2 weeks and believe the food storage in the refrigerator may have been the triggering event.

(09/2020) The consumer stated that the product was purchased in 2019. Around September 2020, the product stopped working. Also, he noticed a burning smell. The consumer pulled the bottom drawer out and noticed that the fan had stopped working. The consumer contacted a technician. When the technician came out, he removed the back cover of the product and saw that the motherboard had burned.
The consumer purchased new parts for the product. After the technician installed the parts and turned the refrigerator on, the new motherboard caught on fire.
The consumer had the installer to run a wire outside of the refrigerator so that it could be used. After six months, the product stopped working again. The consumer got rid of it and purchased a different brand.
The consumer would like for the product to be recalled.

Over the past month we have noticed that the refrigerator has developed an electrical shock hazard on the left-hand side French door and the mullion/flipper door seal metal strip on the inside of the left-hand side door. The mullion/flipper part ensures an airtight seal for the door(s) when closed and incorporates a heater for the metal strip to dissipate and condensation. Appears the mullion piece heater has failed and is now supplying line voltage of 120 VAC to the metal strip of the mullion, (see attached picture)

Had a Kenmore refrigerator catch fire. We were sleeping and when we woke to a burning smell went looking for the cause and seen smoke billowing out of the freezer. Opened it up and flames and sparks were shooting out of the back of the freezer. Called to report it at Kenmore they did not take a safety report or were willing to help replace it. They wanted to sell me parts but it was ruined and all my food was ruined and they gave me no help. If I wouldn’t of woke up our house would of burn’t down.

The light bulbs will not cut off and it got so hot that it melted the entire temp control. All the plastic clips were melted leaving the control system hanging by the electrical contact plug. I had to use potholders to unscrew the bulbs. It was so hot that all the food on the top shelf was warm and thrown out. I checked to make sure nothing was keeping the doors ajar preventing lights to go off. If I had not been at home , there is no telling what would have happened. I tried to contact Kenmore/Sears/[REDACTED]. I have called 6 different numbers and were disconnected or transferred or told “since my refrigerator was over 10 years old that it didn’t matter if the part was recalled and caught on fire.” I read where there is an upgrade that will turn the bulbs off if they stay on too long. I don’t know who else to call or contact. I have read many forums with this EXACT problem and were told to reference an earlier recall case and this message “flash sf46-515

A piece of plastic broke off from the spiral ice feeder inside my ice maker and ended up in my glass of ice water. I only noticed it after I had almost finished drinking the water and the ice had melted the next day, this piece of plastic that broke off was in the bottom of my container. Luckily, I was using a straw so the piece was not able to be ingested, however, there could have been smaller pieces that could have been. I was able to match the piece found in my glass to the area of the spiral where it broke off. This could have easily been a choking hazard or worse. The model of the refrigerator is Kenmore Model 795.51813.410, Serial number: 602MRZL0L669. Manufacture date 2016. Purchased 2017. The ice maker has been used on a regular basis in a normal fashion. I’ve emailed the contact information provided in the produce manual with no response.

Unknown to me because the ice maker bin is self contained The Ice level indicator flap in ice maker detached from level indicator arm had broken off and fell in to ice collection bin As the ice maker crushed and dispensed ice , unknown to me, it ground up the plastic arm flap into my glass, when I drank from the glass I found pieces of the plastic flap in my glass, if I had not seen the white bits of plastic , I could have been easily choked causing a choking hazard , very scary I was able to empty the ice maker and my glass and retrieve most of the pieces Thank goodness I was the only one who used crushed ice that day , there was no unusual sound or noise to alert me this had happened I hope my report helps others avoid an injury

I have a Kenmore Elite refrigerator with the freezer on the bottom, manufactured 9/2006. This morning I found the plastic dome that covers the lights in the fresh food area had fallen off. When looking at it further I saw that the dome was warped a little bit and the bulb area was extremely hot. I pushed in on the door sensors but the lights wouldn’t go off. I closed the doors and could still see a tiny sliver of light showing. I tried to remove the light bulbs but they were burning hot so I used a pot holder to remove them and they made my potholder smoke a little bit. I looked online and found this was a defect and others had the same problem. I tried unplugging the refrigerator for a 5-6 minutes and plugging it back in but it didn’t help. This could have started a fire!

(04/21/2022) When the consumer removed the bottom glass shelf from his refrigerator and placed it on the sink, rinsing with cold water, the glass exploded into thousands [of] pieces & flew over 12 feet. The kitchen counter & floor was covered with glass shreds.
The consumer contacted the firm. He was advised that the glass is tempered and the reason that the shelf exploded is because it was cold and was moved to room temperature.

Approximately 2 years ago, the refrigerator and the freezer stopped cooling. He contacted the firm and reported the problem to them. They sent a technician out, who replaced the compressor and the firm covered all repairs associated with this issue. The refrigerator was still under warranty at that time.
Sometime, in 2021, the same problem returned (refrigerator & freezer stopped cooling). The consumer contacted the firm and was advised to leave it unplugged, which he did. He left the refrigerator unplugged for 4 days and plugged it back in, but it would not work. He unplugged it for another day or two and it did work, but stopped cooling some time later. He has been dealing with this problem off an on for the past few months and has had to discard a lot of food.
3/2022: He had a technician come out to examine the refrigerator. The tech. said it was not getting any PSI on the cold side of the refrigerator. The consumer currently has a manufacturer’s warranty on the refrigerator, but still has to pay over $1000 to get the compressor on his refrigerator replaced/fixed. The parts would exceed $400 or more.
He saw that there information on-line about lawsuits with this firm’s refrigerators. He is also concerned that his family could consume spoiled food and this presents a safety hazard.

The interior light on my Kenmore refrigerator did not turn off when the door was shut. The light housing overheated and began melting the top of the refrigerator. Fortunately, my wife noticed the smell of burning plastic and we removed the light bulbs.

I would like to report a fire hazard with our Kenmore Refrigerator Model No. 795.77563600 (see attached data plate). Despite contacting American Home Shield and notifying them of the fire hazard (see attached photos) the night that it nearly caught on fire (3 September 2021), our refrigerator was not even assessed by a technician until yesterday (17 September 2021) and, even more troubling, was that it was not until I began doing my own independent research that I was made aware of the historical fire hazard this model of refrigerator presents.
Despite American Home Shield’s insistence that this fault can be repaired, after reading other consumer’s issues, we do not feel that it is wise or safe to use a refrigerator that presents a known fire hazard.
I would ask that you work with the appropriate vendors/agencies to alert others and investigate the matter for the sake of the safety of other consumers who might not be so lucky as to catch their refrigerator arcing and smoking before it bursts into flames.
The light case was so hot that when our son tried to remove it WITH heavy duty mechanics gloves, the heat burned through the leather on the glove and burnt his finger.

My Kenmore refrigerator spontaneously caught on fire. I was in my living room, and heard the fridge make a noise that was louder than usual and unfamiliar. I investigated and when I opened the freezer compartment I noticed a large amount of black smoke billow out and the smell of something electrical burning.
Shortly after that, we saw flames coming from the rear of the freezer compartment, out of a hole adjacent to the ice maker device.
I extinguished the fire using an ABC-type fire extinguisher.
After 48 hours I removed the back paneling to inspect the damage, and attain pictures. I found a single cable that was part of the defrost heater (seen here:[REDACTED]) that had melted in half, and the surrounding area burned.

I purchased a Kenmore 106.51134 side by side refrigerator/freezer in October 10, 2017. February of 2020, the ice maker stopped working. An appliance repair man inspected the refrigerator and informed me that this is a common problem with Kenmore and Whirlpool, due to the poor design of running wires next to the freezer door hinge. Opening and closing the freezer door weakens the wiring harness and eventually severs it. It is a fire hazard to have an appliance with broken electrical wires. The service man said the only way to fix the problem is to replace the freezer door with another door with this defective engineering. I contacted Kenmore in March of 2020 and they said it is not considered a defect and they will not rectify the situation.

9/2019: The consumer opened the refrigerator door and it separated from the refrigerator, completely. No one was injured.
The consumer called the manufacturer and they arranged for a technician to come out and service it. The consumer was given an appointment for a week later, but she hired a handy man to re-attach the door, so that she could close it, until the manufacturer’s technician arrived.
The manufacturer’s technician (name unknown) came and reattached the door to the refrigerator. He said that a pin had sheared off, which caused the problem. This work was covered under warranty.
2/9/2021: The consumer opened the refrigerator door and it detached completely, just like before. There was no injury.
The consumer called 3 different numbers for the firm and spoke with 3 different representatives (name unavailable). She was told that it was not covered under warranty and the rep. (name unknown) went on to say that only the compressor is still covered under warranty.
The manufacturer’s rep. (name unknown) at the last number: Tel: 800-827-6655, referred the caller to the CPSC Hotline. The consumer was not asked any questions about the incident by the manufacturer’s rep’s and she did not feel that they documented details about her incident. She was simply told that it was out of warranty and she did not purchase extra warranty coverage.
Her biggest concern is that the door has fallen off twice on a 3 year old refrigerator.

The refrigerator had been operating normally. A few hours later, the consumer opened the refrigerator and noticed a strong smell of “burning plastic,” as well as warmth coming from inside the refrigerator. Upon further investigation, the consumer noticed the heat was coming from the interior lights of the refrigerator, and the heat had melted the plastic housing around the bulbs, and also caused the bulb sockets to burn / darken in color. Much of the food on the top shelf near the bulbs was warm and ruined. After some quick troubleshooting, it appears that the interior lights of the refrigerator were not shutting off when the door was closed, and would remain on, therefore becoming hot and melting the plastic housing. Nobody was hurt during this incident.

We purchased a Kenmore Elite fridge (Model No 10651773510) from Sears in 2017. In three short years, the ice maker has stopped working. We had a Sears Repair person examine it and the issue lies in a manufacturing defect on the freezer door. Per *regular* door use, a cluster of wires at the bottom of the door has broken in half. The damage is irreparable and would require a door replacement or new fridge. We certainly aren’t paying for a new, expensive door only to have it break again in three years. Nor do we feel we should have to buy a new fridge. But what started as an inconvenience (no ice) has now become a hazard in my kitchen. We have a 6yo and two pets and when the freezer door is open, several broken/open wires are exposed.
I imagine this issue will start cropping up more and more with this model. It is outrageous that such a ‘young’ and modern fridge has not only failed us but now poses an electrical issue-threat to my family.

We purchased a Kenmore Elite refrigerator Model 106.5177 or model 465177*51*. The wires leading from the main unit to the freezer door became broken and wire is exposed that could cause a shock hazard or short circuit. I have read and heard from others that have the same problem.
Calling Kenmore resulting in a service technician telling us that the door had to be replaced for $1200. The refrigerator was only 1.5 years old and cost $1400.
I believe that this is a design flaw and a recall should be issued.
It is extremely unfair to the consumer to have to be responsible for this unsafe and expensive condition and repair.

Upon opening the refrigerator I realized that the light bulbs were both off. When I went to remove the plastic cover I noticed that it was very warm to the touch, but was able to remove it. I reached to remove the bulbs in order to inspect them and my hand grazed the metal backing plate of the assembly and was subsequently burned. The only way to ensure that the assembly does not produce an excessive amount of heat is to remove the bulbs and interrupt the circuit. The overheating was severe enough to discolor the white, plastic bulb sockets. Kenmore model 795.77563600. After a series of phone calls and transfers to everyone from Sears, to Kenmore, to LG, to third parties, I got nowhere and no one would accept liability or send me replacement parts.

My Kenmore Elite Refrigerator has a light unit that overheated and melted plastic and nearly caused a fire. Unit is Model No.: 795.775 636 00 and Serial No. is: 802KR00798.

The product, in the report: Regrigerator

The refrigerator was purchased sometime during the Summer of 2007. The caller is reporting that overnight or early morning August 15th/August 15th his girlfriend discovered that there was smoke coming from the area of their refrigerator light was melted. It appears that the lights were on all night melting the plastic, ruining the food and presenting a fire hazard. He is reporting this as a fire and burn hazard and would like this model investigated for recall. There are no injuries being reported He has not contacted the manufacturer but he does intend to contact them.

The consumer indicates her refrigerator started giving her problems five months after it was purchased however it was not until 05/16/2019 that she found out the reason why after it was serviced. The consumer believes her refrigerator poses a fire hazard because, upon inspection, the Service Technician indicated that the wires inside the refrigerator were severed due to a design flaw where they start to break up when the refrigerator door is opened and shut constantly as these actions pull on the wires.
The consumer notes that the issue with the wires made the ice maker stop working, the lights flash, the ice dispenser open and close by itself, the ice auger no longer works, among other things.
The consumer contacted the Manufacturer and explained the situation however she was informed they could not provide assistance free of charge because the unit is not warrantied anymore and there is no recall.
The consumer plans on keeping her refrigerator for the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

The caller states that the electrical wires at the bottom of his refrigerator delivered April 20th, 2017 are placed in a manner that causes them to rub against a metal foot that places undue stress on the wires which causes them to break. This is an ongoing problem. The consumer is reporting a second issue at this time that there are metal shavings coming out in his cubed and crushed ice. He is reporting this as a safety hazard because if not noticed and the person drinks the liquid the ice is in there could be severe internal consequences. He said that this may have been happening much before it was noticed because he also found metal shavings built up under the ice area. There are no known injuries at this time He was contacted the manufacturer who referred him to CPSC. He states that due to the safety hazards, the less than two years age of the unit he would ask to have the refrigerator replaced with a different model.

We bought a Kenmore side by side model #106.51139214; serial # HR73710169 on September 25, 2017. The ice maker quit working so we called a repairman. The wires in the wiring harness on the lower left freezer cabinet are sliced in two. This would include, we assume, the ground wire. The repairman said he has seen this before and that the door opening and shutting is causing the wires to snap. We believe if this is not taken care of it could lead to the possibility of shocking a person. The refrigerator is only 15 months old but 3 months out of warranty. The repairman said the door would have to be removed at a cost of around $800. We bought this on sale for $999.00!!

Three years ago, my mother-in-law purchased us a gift of a Kenmore Elite French Door (bottom freezer) Refrigerator. Since the second year, the ice maker would malfunction, causing me to either take it apart almost daily to de-ice around the ice maker or it would freeze over completely from the inside, causing the ice maker to stop working and getting clogged up - the only way to fix this was to pour hot water through it until it thawed enough to remove.
Now the unit has become UNSAFE - when you open the left side door (which has the ice maker and ice/water dispenser in it), if you touch the metal on the side of the door, YOU GET AN ELECTRIC SHOCK (significant shock).

The product, in the report: Refrigerator with on top freezer

The consumer left the freezer door opened slightly for approximately 2 hours. When she returned a side mounted light in the freezer was burned and melted. The casing for the light, the interior side wall of the freezer and the ceiling of the freezer were all melted and discolored yellow.
The consumer has never had any prior problems with this refrigerator. Some of her food that was closest to the light was burned and the plastic containers for some of the food was also melted. The consumer placed masking tape over the switch that turns the freezer light off, when the door is opened. Therefore, the light always stays off.
There were no injuries.
2/25/2018: The consumer called Sears (800-469-4663) and was transferred to their Customer Care Dept. However, that department is closed on Sundays, so the call was disconnected.
2/26/2018: The consumer called Sears (800-469-4663) and she was transferred to their Recall Dept., but the rep. in that dept. said there was no recall on her refrigerator and gave her a number (Tel: 888-536-6673) to another dept. The rep. at that number transferred the consumer to their Repair Dept. The rep. in that dept. told the consumer that there would be a service charge to send a tech. out and to see how much the repair would cost her. The consumer said she did not want that option and was calling to file a safety report. The rep. said that they could not take a report at this dept. and referred her back to Customer Care (888-536-6673). The rep. at that number wanted to send her back to the Repair Dept. The consumer said she already spoke with the repair dept. and service dept. and did not want to go back to them.
The rep. then offered to check for a recall. The rep. said that there was a “general recall” for ice building up in the upper left hand side of the freezer and a problem with the fan motor. The rep. said that the consumer would have to pay for a service call. The consumer said this was not useful and did not resemble her problem, so she would not pay for tech. to come out for a problem she did not have. The rep. then referred the consumer to the CPSC Hotline. The consumer asked if a report could be filed, but the Sear’s rep. never indicated that they could or would file a report.
The consumer said that she specifically told several people within the firm that she was calling to report this issue.

call this my “killer refrigerator•- Problem #1: the door goes all the way to the floor and when my (grown) daughter opened the refrigerator, the door scraped her foot and nearly took her toenail off. We take our shoes off upon entering the house. I wear heavy, furry slippers, so when the door hits my foot, it does not damage my foot, but when other people open the door, it scrapes their foot. Problem #2: The top shelf is very low, so I have to bend over whenever I retrieve or insert anything - when I stand up, I hit my head on the freezer door handle.

The product, in the report: Refrigerator

This consumer is reporting that his refrigerator light overheated and melted the liner of the unit covering insulation which exposes anyone opening the refrigerator to insulation. He purchased the refrigerator from Sears in California approximately 12 years ago (2005). He is reporting this incident as a fire and health hazard. The manufacturing company was contacted by the consumer August 2017 to report this incident model# . He was provided with Order# [REDACTED] and twice advised that this unit is recalled, however I can locate no recall for this unit neither at cpsc.gov, saferproducts.gov or at the manufacturers recalls site. He said that the manufacturer has offered to replace the light and tape where the liner has been melted off and he states that neither sounds safe or cosmetically acceptable. The caller was very pleasant but difficult to understand due to a thick accent.

I would like for you to be aware of an incident that occurred yesterday. Americans like things clean and tidy, and upon taking out the refrigerator glass shelve to clean it off in the sink because something had spilled on it, when my daughter went to put a WET CLOTH on it to wipe it off, the WHOLE THING EXPLODED in her HANDS •• not just crack , I MEAN small pieces of glass exploded inches away from her face and chest . She received small pieces of glass in her arms drawing a small amount of blood. She could may been blinded ... Thank God my grandchildren were not around, as this could have injured them or anyone in vicinity. A glass vase that was near the sink broke In half because of the force.

Kenmore Side by Side refrigerator 106.5113. The wires to the icemaker and water dispenser are at the bottom hinge area of the door. The ice maker stopped working so I called Sears service and a technician came out. He stated that the refrigerator had a design flaw beceaseu the wire was continually being pinched by the door as it opened and closed. The wiers eventually were severed and in doing that exposed a hot wire to the ice maker, this is a potential fire and safety risk to usersThis could have injured someone if it was touched. The wires will continually be severed as the door opens and closes so the entire dispenser will fail. This is a manuafacturer defect and should be recalled so there are no injuries. My guess is that they did not have this refrigerator in use long enough to determine that it was a hazard. Now that it is known it should be taken care of.

Kenmore Elite model # 795.77543600, Lights won’t shut off when the door is closed. Caused light to turn black/burning smell/light case melted/ causing excessive heat inside frig thus spoiling food and causing in door ice maker issues. I have no lights in frig so I can use the frig for now but I am concerned that a board may still me causing overheating issues. I called 1-800-4-MY-HOME and I got nothing from them. They said there was no recall and they did not know about my problem which I find hard to believe with all of the complaints over the past 3 years. Sears wanted to charge me $99 to send someone to my house and I’m not paying for a know fire hazard. The consumer stated that she noticed in February that the unit stopped making ice. The consumer called for repair again. An appointment was scheduled for dispatch but the unit started working again. The appointment was canceled.
Around February 28th, the unit stopped making ice nor was it cooling. Another dispatch was scheduled. A repairperson came out on 3/9. The consumer stated that the technician added Freon.
(03/10/2017) The consumer stated that around 12 noon,3:30pm and around 5pm, she ate some food from the refrigerator. The consumer noticed later that the unit was not cooling at all. The consumer stated that later on 3/10, everything in the refrigerator was thrown out.
(03/11/2017) The consumer stated that on Saturday she woke up about 7am. She was throwing up and had diarrhea.

I purchased a Kenmore Trio Elite three-door refrigerator from a Sears store on 9/20/2007. Recently, we opened the refrigerator to find the light housing in the refrigerator compartment had partially melted due to overheating from the light bulbs and/or electrical wiring under the light cover. This presents a significant fire hazard and risk to property and persons due to the fire hazard. At no time during a product’s reasonably expected service life should plastic parts melt due to heating from light bulbs, especially in a chilled environment.

I opened my refrigerator, a Kenmore Elite mode #795.77572600 to find the light cover hanging down. I thought it just came loose. Upon further inspection, I realized it was melted and the lights were on. I tried to activate the door switches, but the lights continued to stay on. The heat was intense enough to melt a hole in the top of the refrigerator above the metal heat shield. The light sockets were charred. I know this issue has already been identified, but I never received notice in the 2011/2012 time frame. That is the time I bought the house where the refrigerator was. I am attempting to resolve with the manufacturer.

We own the Kenmore elite refrigerator model #: 795.77553600. We purchased it new from sears in 2005/2006. One day I noticed a burning smell... it smelled like melting plastic or burning wires. It took me a day or two to place the smell. The refrigerator light was getting very hot and melting the roof of the refrigerator. I took out the light and melted piece in order to stop the burning. This happened about a year ago and I didn’t think much of it until researching recalls on our refrigerator. I don’t believe ours was involved in the recall I found, but was produced After this recall, with likely the same issue.

I opened the refrigerator this a.m. and noticed that it was hot inside. Then I noticed the light hanging down, and you could smell a burning motor smell. I noticed that everything was hot in the refrigerator. The light was on and would not go off, it melted the light fixture. It got so hot I had to throw everything out. Kenmore Elite refrigerator model 795.77544600 was in normal use. Internal refrigerator light started to flicker intermittently when the door was open, as if the bulb was starting to go, then would work fine. Recently In the middle of the night we noticed a glow from between the french doors and found that even though the doors were shut, the light had stayed on causing the internal light fixtures to burn and housing around the light an items on the top shelf to melt. Door switch was functioning properly to sense door closed (otherwise it would alarm).

The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite Trio bottom freezer drawer refrigerator (Black Pearl)

On a Kenmore Elite Trio (bottom freezer drawer) refrigerator, the lights were not turning off once the doors are closed. This results in the bulbs and the housing overheating, to the point that you can smell smoke/burning and the plastic enclosures where the bulbs screw into are discolored yellow/brown from the overheating/burning.
This has happened twice now in the last six months on this model (795.77719700) that was purchased in 2008. Both times the problem came to our attention when we opened the refrigerator to see that it was dark inside, and that the light bulb enclosure was very hot to the touch and we could smell burning. After the bulbs cool down and the sockets cool down, putting the bulbs back in results in everything seeming to function well, except for the fact that we placed a phone with the video recording into the fridge and saw that the lights were staying on when the doors were closed.
Not sure how this problem has never made it onto the recall list, given the obvious concern for a potential fire hazard.

Kenmore Refrigerator Model 253 60082412 Serial # 4A63224289, sold by SEARS. Door handle of top freezer and refrigerator compartment constitute a serious safety hazard, handles are protruding almost 3 inches at the junction of each door, they have sharp corner edges, every member of my family has bump their heads, elbows and fore arms when retrieving items from freezer or refrigerator, continuous injury to our elbows fore arm and particularly our heads may result in serious trauma to the brain, my wife and I have suffer scalp wounds, the door handles could cause wide open wound in the scalp that my require stitches. This Kenmore item should be recall , door handles are defective and badly design. Have complained to Sears to have the item return or exchange for another model to no avail. Since Sears has refuse to cooperate, I have taking steps to dispute the charges with the credit card that according to them will take about six weeks.

Kenmore refrigerator model 106.50029213. Cleaning freezer at bottom. Long exposed sheet metal sliced two of my fingers open at the tips. Bled for an hour. Had to get tetanus shot. Dr could not suture. Metal blade exposed. Repair tech said nothing could be done.

Purchased a Kenmore Refrigerator from sears 08/16/2015 and the refrigerator began to overheat and continued to run hot, until the it burned the outlet in the wall and compressor burned up. Technician came to my house to service the appliance, but after look over, alerted me that he would not repair the refrigerator that it is running hotter than it should be, and is a fire hazard.

08/26/2016 - The consumer indicates that the refrigerator was not cooling. He placed a thermometer inside the refrigerator and it eventually read 74 degrees Fahrenheit. The consumer then noticed that the light cover was melted. The consumer removed the light from the refrigerator.
09/01/2016 - The consumer contacted the retailer and explained the situation. The representative he spoke to informed him that his unit was not included in a recall so there was no assistance they could provide.
The consumer plans on keeping the light and the refrigerator for the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

795.77314600 Kenmore refrigerator. Opened the refrigerator last night to find the control board and lamp cover melting, because the light bulbs had not turned off. This is the second time this has occurred. The first time it had only melted the lamp cover, which I had to replace. This time the entire control unit has melted. After doing some research, it turns out this is a known issue with the PCB board and there has been a class action suit, resulting in an extended warranty on these parts. I have contacted Sears and they don’t have any record of the issue, or the extended warranty. They either want to schedule a tech to come out (for a $95 fee) or they give me another number to call, with no results.

Kenmore elite model# 795.77543600 Refrigerator by Sears Roebuck.
Interior light does not turn off when the doors are shut. Due to this the light box and the cover melted causing fire hazard. I have called Sears and was told to report this to your agency.
To avoid fire, I have removed the light bulbs from the light box.
There has been similar complaints about Kenmore elite refrigerators in the past. I found out about these when I searched solution for my case. Looks like Sears went to consumer’s house and fixed the problem without a charge.
I would like Consumer Product Safety to mandate Sears to fix my refrigerator interior light problem asap.

Not too long ago we experienced a faulty light in the refrigerator compartment. Sears came out and replaced the fixture AND replaced the master control panel on the back. This was necessary because on our arrival home we discovered the melted lighting fixture and warm food inside our refrigerator, any longer and a fire would have been inevitable. The other day, we opened our freezer door to experience the top drawer slide snap apart and collapse the drawer. The freezer bulb blows out frequently, with unknown reason. In addition, the plastic guides on the drawers inside the refrigerator have also failed. Our refrigerator is less than 9 years old. By comparison years ago, a unit such as this would have a life-expectancy of 20 years. Sears has been notified and is offering no assistance because our warranty has run out.

Glass shelves with wide plastic edge has cracked or broken plastic. When removing one to clean , plastic completely fell apart. Checking the rest of shelves they are cracks or broken .This could lead to a shelve falling with product on them. If the shelve felled breaking the glass inside of plastic it could cause a severe injury with broken glass or any other injury with the weight of the glass fell on you.
