The product, in the report: Cuisinart Coffee maker DC-2200 stainless/black exterior. Glass and black carafe. 14 cup model
Cuisinart DC-2200 coffee maker caught on fire. Serial 60309C. After brewing on normal start setting about 30 minutes. Had poured coffee from the carafe and was drinking. Tasted fine. Noticed the on light indicator was not lit and checked. There was not enough time elapsed for the auto-off feature to turn it off. When I approached I could see coffee in the carafe was almost boiling and the maker seemed to be turned off. I reached to unplug and noted smoke pouring from the opening where the cord goes into the back of the coffee maker. Bottom of the coffee maker was burning. Rancid burning plastic electrical smell. I was fortunate to be in the kitchen when this happened. The amount of burning in such a short time would have caused a house fire had I been upstairs on a work morning. This happened on Sunday so I was downstairs in the kitchen. Scary to think it could have burned me, my husband, my pets, my house and property.
Upon researching for possible reasons I found this has been a common occurrence with a variety of models and sizes of Cuisinart coffee makers. It appears that Cuisinart should recall coffee makers.

The product, in the report: “Cuisinart DCC-1200BCH Brew Central 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Black Chrome” $65.19 Sold by: Amazon.com, LLC
Our coffee pot just posed a significant fire risk. The product details are listed below, and I see on Amazon that many other users are reporting the same thing in the product review section. Scary.
What happened: We brewed a pot of coffee on a Saturday morning, drank most of it, and let it sit. The auto-shut-off worked at the 2 hour mark, then soon after that, I heard what sounded like another pot of coffee brewing, but LOUDLY. The coffee pot light was still off at this point. Then there was smoke, and a strong smell of burning something -- wires? -- that was definitely not coffee. We ran the coffee maker out to the deck and hosed it down, which produced a ton of smoke and much more smell. Truly scary, as this clearly would have led to a fire if left unattended. We now unplug all of our appliances after use because we are so nervous! At least I know it may be a faulty product. I only hope it is recalled before someone loses their home. It’s an incredibly popular item, and consumers need to be protected!

The product, in the report: Cuisinart Compact Single Serve Coffee Maker Model SS-300
My Cuisinart Compact Single Serve Coffee Maker Model SS-300 normally, after brewing a cup of coffee, automatically turns off. Two weeks ago, I made a cup of coffee and was about to leave the house when I smelled something burning. I returned to the kitchen to find the Cuisinart coffee maker smoking and when I lifted the brewer head and looked inside, it was glowing bright red. I immediately unplugged it and took it outside. If I had not returned to the kitchen and unplugged the machine, I fear that my home could have been damaged or destroyed by a disastrous fire.
I have pictures of the melted inside parts of the machine below the filter compartment and the melted filter holder that sits on top of it that I can provide.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart pod type coffee maker
Bought a Cuisinart pod type coffee maker a few weeks ago. One morning, July 21, 2014, I had used it, making three cups of coffee. Then it shut off automatically, as it was supposed to. About an hour later I happened to be in the kitchen, heard a noise and looked over to see the unit steaming and smoking. The heating element at the top, under the water reservoir was bright orange and red.
I removed the unit outdoors, so keep the smoke alarm from activating. I phoned the company, which said they would send me a replacement unit, but that they would not pay for return shipping of the defective unit. I will not return the unit at my cost, since I did not manufacture and sell a defective product.
I seems very irresponsible that the company would not want the unit back to examine, and perhaps help avoid fires at future customers’ residences.
The model # is SS-300. Serial #31200 (or 31206 - difficult to read on the unit).

The product, in the report: Coffee Maker
I hade a Cuisinart M#DCC-1100 S#00907 Coffee maker catch on fire. I had just put my coffee on and the brew process had finished . I was standing about 10ft away from the coffee maker when I heard a boiling sound , I looked at the coffee pot and the coffee was boiling on the hot plate of the maker. I did not think too much about this then I saw the hot plate turn cherry red then start to smoke. Be for I could reach the maker he lower part burst into flames setting the coffee lower plastic on fire. I first cut the off switch and that did not help the hot plate was getting bright red now. I then unplugged the coffee maker but the fire still was burning and the upper part was melting. I had to use a CO2 fire extinguisher to put out the plastic and dish towel and curtains. If I had been in a different room in the house or outside this could have been a kitchen fire. It looks as if the hot plate went into thermal overheat for some reason. I also could see no breaker or secondary protection for the hot plate portion of this coffee maker in the burnt coffee maker.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart DCC-1100 Classic 12-cup programmable coffeemaker
My 16 month-old Cuisinart coffee maker experienced an electrical fire at the end of a normal brewing cycle. We were able to unplug the device without injury. I have contacted Cuisinart to obtain a replacement since the device had a 3 year warranty. The coffeemaker had light usage, rarely more than two 4-cup pots per day. It is concerning that serious injury/property damage could have occurred on such a new device that did not experience high usage. It seems like that should be investigated.

The product, in the report: Cusinart DCC-750 12 cup Coffee Maker, black with programmable brew feature.
My 2 year old Cusinart coffee maker model DCC-750 made a popping and sizzling noise during a brew cycle. I noticed the heating element was bright red and it began smoking. I immediately unplugged the device and took it outside where it continued to smoke for several more minutes. My kitchen smelled like burned plastic for a few hours. There are numerous complaints on the Consumer Protection site regarding this coffee maker model and other models as well. Cusinart does not take responsibility, therefore, I hope that CPSC will take lead and investigate further. I used this coffee pot every day and just the day before I used the auto brew cycle. If this had occurred the day before I am sure I would have had a fire in my kitchen. Thank you.

The product, in the report: cuisinart thermal coffeemaker DTC-975
the top part of the coffeemaker (black plastic) comes apart from the stainless steel. This leave a hole about 2 inches cause HOT coffee to spill all over, I this morning get my hand burnt and coffee went all over my bathrobe causing my chest to burn and having to ripe off bath robe. I did not have to get medical as my burn was only like a sun burn. My concern is if a young mother is pouring coffee and a young baby is hanging around mom as young children do this baby can get a bad burn. As I say , the amount of coffee that came out was to cover my counter to the amount of a 12 oz and the ran down my dishwasher and then to the floor, There was enough coffee to use 6 wash clothes size to clean up Call up company and their attitude was so bad about it being out of warranty” IT WAS OH WELL” I do not want a law suit, I do not want money, I want them to realize that this is not safe and to do something about it.

I have a Cuisinart electric coffee maker that had been used to make coffee on the morning of 3/24/14. Later, we heard a crackling sound coming from the unit. When I entered the kitchen, smoke was coming from the unit and a strong burning plastic smell was in the air. I verified that the “On” light was not lit. I removed the pot and the heat surface was glowing red with smoke coming from the back. I unplugged the unit and carried it outside. I hate to think what could have happened if we had not been home or been asleep at the time. The unit model number is BCC-1100BK.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart coffee maker DCC-1100 black
My coffee pot was on when I noticed a strong smell coming from my kitchen. It smelled like burning plastic and was very strong. I finally realized it was my coffee maker and by that time the outlet had turned the coffee pot off. Upon inspection of the coffee pot, I noticed that on the bottom of the hotplate was where the burning had been. It was discolored and the smell was very strong. I called Cuisinart and reported the problem and they informed me they would send me a new one after I gave them the model number of the coffee maker. I am concerned, however, that they would send me one with the same problem that could cause a fire in my home. I have 3 children and am concerned with their lack of concern with this problem. Tonight I was doing research and found that many people have had the same problem. Why is Cuisinart still allowed to sell such a dangerous product?!

The product, in the report: Coffee Maker
I made coffee with my Cuisinart Grind and Brew DGB 700BC this morning - there was still about 2 cups of coffee in the carafe and the warm function was on. Luckily I was nearby - I heard a boiling sound and went toward the sound which turned out to be the coffee which was boiling in the carafe. As I approached I noticed smoke coming from the base of the unit and a smell of burning plastic/electric components. I quickly unplugged the unit and removed it to a safer surface. I am sure that there would have been a fire if I had not been close by and acted quickly. I have investigated and note that there are others who have had this same problem with this coffee maker as noted on Complaints.com and Amazon.com.

My husband says the warming plate was glowing orange/red and smoke was coming out drenching the room with the smell of burning plastic. Thankfully he was there or it could have easily burned down our kitchen. We have owned this approx 1 1/2 yrs. Due to the many numerous complaints i have seen since this happened, this product very definately should be recalled.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart 12 cup programmable coffee maker
I brewed coffee this morning in my Cuisinart Coffee Maker and went upstairs to shower. I came down to plug my cell in and my kitchen was filled with smoke that was coming out from under the unit. The unit sounded as if it were trying to brew again, popping noises and steam sounds, even though it already had brewed an hour earlier and the carafe still had several inches of coffee in it. I unplugged the unit, removed the carafe and ran with it to my garage. The underside has a metal plate and it was incredibly hot to the touch (I burned my hand when my thumb accidently hit the underside running with it to the garage. Despite being unplugged, the unit continued to smoke for about 5 minutes. I honestly believe that it could have started a fire had it not been on a granite counter and had I not come down to find the smoking unit. The unit did sustain high use - every day for about 3 years, but I’ve never had a small kitchen appliance behave that way.

I brewed a cup of coffee using a k-cup and it brewed normally. I turned the coffee maker off and within 5 minutes I heard it start up again like it was heating up. There was no water in the reservoir and I was confused because I had turned it off. I opened the k-cup lever and the heating mechanism was glowing red inside and smoke began pouring out. It smelled like hot plastic. I unplugged it and poured water into the reservoir to extinguish the heating element. I reported this to Cuisinart over the phone and they said they had not heard any other similar complaints.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart 12 Cup Stainless Steel Coffee Maker Model # DCC-1200
We purchased a Cuisinart 12 Cup Coffee Maker (Model # DCC-1200) November 20, 2010. It worked flawlessly until this morning, September 15, 2013. We brewed a pot of coffee as we have nearly every day. Two cups were poured, with two cups remaining in the carafe on warm. Approximately 20 minutes later we heard a crackling, bubbling sound coming from the coffee maker. Upon investigation, we noticed the coffee was actually boiling in the carafe, the warming plate was red and smoke was coming from the underside of the unit. I immediately unplugged the unit and took it outside. Fortunately no one was injured nor was there any damage to the countertop. This was a very alarming incident, and we are fortunate we were able o detect the issue before it became worse. Upon reading reviews from other consumers of this same product, it is apparent this was not an isolated incident. We will not purchase another similar unit, and will be contacted Cuisinart.

My husband had made about 8 cups of coffee and the maker still had about another cup left in it. The coffee maker had already automatically shut off. We heard popping noises and went to see why the maker was doing this. It was smoking from the bottom and when we pulled out the carafe, the burner was turning red. We unplugged the unit and took it outside. The counter was hot where the unit had been sitting. We were lucky that we had been sitting there when the unit started burning otherwise there is no doubt there would have been a house fire.

The product, in the report: Programmable Coffee maker with built-in burr grinder. 12 cup.
I had owned the DGB-700BC Cuisinart coffee maker for about 8 months, when yesterday, while making coffee (in no grind mode) with pre-ground coffee, while brewing, electrical smoke started emitting from the unit and the LCD screen went blank. It was evident the hot plate got too hot, as it left quite a burn mark on the bottom of the carafe. I unplugged it immediately. If I were in the shower and not already in the kitchen, I am not sure how bad it could have gotten. Seems like this is a way too common a problem based on what I have read online. Not worth replacing under warranty given the likelihood of this happening again. My place still reeks of electrical fire smoke 24 hours later. I would not recommend this product to my worst enemies!

My Cuisinart coffeemaker nearly caught fire this morning. If I hadn’t been home, it would have likely caused a serious fire in my home. I was walking past and it started crackling and smoking, huge billowing smoke. I immediately unplugged it and took it out to my lawn. It took a good 1/2 hour to cool down completely. The heating element was glowing and it was extremely hot.
I also burned my hands when I picked it up to move it outdoors.
It is the Cuisinart 12 cup 1200 model, Brewmaster.
I have heard this has happened to many people, after reading online.
Why hasn’t this been recalled? Is Cuisinart waiting until someone’s house actually catches on fire??
I have owned this for less than 1year.
Please help do something about this dangerous product!

Our cuisinart coffee maker, model DCC 1200 serial number 00816h, that we purchased in September 2011 broke his morning. By broke, I mean it became a serious fire hazard! My wife and I brewed a full pot, 12 cups, this morning and after drinking approximately 5 cups the coffee began to boil and the pot began making loud cracking noises followed by smoke. I immediately associated the smell of the smoke to burning electronics which I have experience dealing with due to my work in military aerospace. I am scared that if we hadn’t acted quickly to unplug the electrical power that a fire would have started and possibly caught our kitchen cabinets on fire.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart 12 Cup Coffee Maker DCC-1200
Re: Cuisinart Coffee Plus DCC-1200 defective.
About 2 months ago, while we were away our cleaning lady told us that when she came to clean, our coffee maker was left on and very hot with no coffee in the carafe. The pot had been turned off before we left. She unplugged it and removed the carafe.
Today May, 11, I heard a hissing, snapping & crackling sound, like liquid hitting the burner. Also an acrid smell. I went to the kitchen and found the coffee maker OFF but smoking. When I removed the carafe from the burner, the burner was RED HOT. In fact it looked ready to burst into flame. I immediately unplugged the coffee maker and moved everything outside.
Had our cleaning lady not come by to clean and discovered this the first time, and had we been gone on our planned vacation (we are leaving on the 12th), our house would have burned down and yet there has been NO recall on this defective product. This is unacceptable.

We have had TWO Grind & Brew™ 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker’s short out, smell like burning plastic, and fill the house with smoke. Both times, I smelled the smoke and immediately unplugged and took the device outside. Thankfully, I was not in the shower, or asleep (my husband brews coffee and leaves it warming for me when he goes to work). The first coffee maker lasted just under 2 yrs, and Cuisinart gladly sent us a newer model, DGB-700BC, free of charge (as long as we paid the $20 shipping to send the broken unit back to their facility). The newer model has lasted under 1 year and imploded on itself this morning, May 4, 2013. Will be calling Cuisinart to insure they are aware of this problem.
UPDATE FROM CONSUMER: The Cuisinart Brew & Grind, 12 cup, Automatic Coffee Maker, Model # DGB-700BC is DANGEROUS. The heating element CAUGHT FIRE. The plastic located between the heating element and the warming plate, CAUGHT FIRE and started to melt. Our house would have burnt down if the electricity to the coffee maker was not disconnected.

I had my 12 cup Cuisinart coffee maker set to go off on the timer. It went off and made the water. After it finished I heard popping noise and the smell of acrid plastic. Thankfully I was home and in the kitchen. I went over and took the glass carafe off the burner and then unplugged the unit. The bottom metal warmer plate was sparking to the point of orange embers. I took the unit outside as the sparking continued even after unplugging it. Had I had papers on the counter close to the unit I surely would have had a much larger fire on my hands.

After grinding and brewing coffee in our 5-yr. old Cuisinart Burr Grind & Brew, Model DGB-700 Series, the warming plate remained on and overheated. For more very similar reports of incidents with the Cuisinart Grind & Brew, go to cuisinartsucks.com. Cuisinart is aware of these incidents but has not recalled these machines. They claim that there is a safety turn off in the machine and that an actual fire could not have happened. IF YOU ARE USING ONE OF THESE MACHINES, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TURNING IT OFF IMMEDIATELY AFTER BREWING.

The product, in the report: Electric coffee maker with a grinder at the top of the machine.
At approximately 10:30 AM on the morning of March 30, 2013, I walked into the kitchen and found smoke coming up from my Cuisinart coffee maker. I immediately unplugged the machine, but smoke continued to waft upward from the bottom of the machine. I moved the coffee maker into the sink and submerged it in water, and after a few minutes, the electric fire was finally doused.
At 11:00 AM, I called the Cuisinart customer service number and reported the fire. [REDACTED] answered the call and apologized for the situation; he asked for the model number and serial number, and then apologized again because he said that there was nothing that could be done. [REDACTED] explained that because the serial number indicated that the coffee maker was one year outside of the warranty period that there was nothing that he could do because it was “too far outside” the warranty period.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart DCC-1200 Brew Central 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker Model: DCC-1200 Serial #: 00715 h
I purchased a Cuisinart DCC-1200 Brew Central 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker from Amazon.com on January 18, 2012. It is programmed to automatically brew coffee at 6 A.M. every morning. This morning, at around 6:30 AM, I heard strange noises in the kitchen. I went in to investigate and saw smoke coming from the coffee maker and the base was glowing orange. I quickly unplugged it, removed the coffee pot, and carried the coffee maker outside the house. I hate to think what would have happened if I had slept in or been at the other end of the house and not heard the noise.
I looked on Amazon.com and noticed quite a few reviews that mention overheating and fires: http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-DCC-1200BCH-Central-Programmable-Coffeemaker/product-reviews/B000H4C5FC/ref=cm_cr_pr_hist_1?ie=UTF8&filterBy=addOneStar&showViewpoints=0
I think this product is dangerous and should be investigated.

The product, in the report: Quisinart Fully Automatic Burr Grind and Brew Coffee Maker Model DGB-700BC
I have owned two Quisinart Fully Automatic Burr Grind & Brew Coffee Makers (Model DCC-790 and Model DGB-700BC). The DCC-790 worked well for little over a year and then the warming plate began to smoke and burn. I replaced that model with the DGB-700BC which has worked well for about a year until the warming plate also caught fire on Sunday, February 17, 2013.
In both cases, the auto-timer was used so that the coffee would be ready on awakening. In each case, the burning began about an hour after the coffee was finished brewing. Coincidentally and luckily, I was in the kitchen each time when the coffeemaker began to burn. Otherwise, it could have certainly caused a house fire.
Over the last 2 days I have read numerous reports online complaining about these and/or similar Quisinart models with fire hazard issues.
I believe this product is a safety hazard that could cause injury or death especially if turned on and left unattended.

The consumer says yesterday morning when starting the coffee maker, all of a sudden he heard a crackling sound. He says that the bottom level of his house was filled with smoke. He says the unit was off when he went to check it. He says that it was burning and melting however.
He saw many reports online on his exact same make and model. he contacted the manufacturer yesterday who said the unit is not on recall and they offered to replace it. He refused stating he does not want another one. The consumer feels the unit is a severe hazard.
He said all the plastic melted and wiring was melted as well. he says this happened within seconds. He says the unit was not brewing at the time of the incident but was in “warm” mode.
The consumer would like to add that it gave off a very strong melted plastic odor. He says that if they were not home at the time, this incident could have caused their house to burn down.

The product, in the report: 12 cup coffee maker (programmable)
The consumer says she was making coffee. She had two cups out of it. She stepped outside to take the trash out. She came back inside, went into the kitchen and immediately smelled wire burning. She looked over and saw sparks flying out of the base of the machine. She says their was also a lot of smoke. The consumer unplugged the unit, picked it up, walked out the back door and set it on her patio.
The consumer contacted the manufacturer who said they have never heard of this and never had a complaint. They told her the unit is not on recall. They said the best they can do is replace the exact same unit. This is after going onto CPSC’s web site and her reading off several complaints to them.

Over the two or three weeks prior to this incident, the unit would often turn on or off by itself. Sometimes, the grinder would spontaneously start up. More recently, the grinder would spontaneously start and not stop after the normal amount of time, running indefinitely.

The product, in the report: DCC-1200 Cuisinart Brew Central 12-cup Programmable Coffee Maker with glass carafe, black plastic casing and chrome finish
On November 14, 2012, my DCC-1200 Brew Central 12-Cup Coffee Maker finished brewing 8 cups of coffee, out of which 2 cups were poured. The coffeemaker was purchased in 9/2010. About 45 minutes later, I noticed a loud popping, hissing and cracking noise coming from the machine while I was in another part of the house. I found the coffee maker to be off (operating light was not lit), and the coffee inside the carafe was on a hard boil. The coffee maker had what seemed like a combination of smoke and steam (smelled like burnt coffee and burning plastic) coming from underneath the carafe and underneath the unit altogether. I immediately unplugged it and took it outside to avoid chance of fire and setting off the building fire alarms. It continued to smoke outside for approximately 10 minutes. I also noticed what appeared like some of the plastic had melted onto the glass carafe.
I contacted Cuisinart on 11/15/12, who offered to replace it for me at no charge on the condition that I cut off the cord from my defective machine and mail it in at my expense. The customer service rep said she had never heard of this happening before and did not know of any recall/ safety concerns associated with this product.

My Cuisinart coffeemaker was set up to come on automatically in the morning. It made coffee as usual and I came out from the bedroom and the kitchen was smokey and smelled like burning plastic. The coffeepot was burning. It was less than 3 years old and had always worked fine. There were no flames, probably because I quickly unplugged it and put it in the sink. But there was smoke and burning plastic smell. I had to air out the house. It was on a granite counter top, so there was no damage to the counter.

I had just walked down the hall when I heard popping noises. So by time I entered the kitchen, I figured it was the coffee pot making the noises. As I got closer, I was confused because there were no lights on and the timer window was blank but it was still plugged in. It was still on before this had happened. I pulled the carafe out and noticed the bottom was glowing red. Then, it started to smoke. The product, in the report: Black/Chrome Coffee Maker
Jan 2011, we purchased a Cuisinart DCC-1200 12 cup coffee maker, serial # 00804H from Amazon.com. It worked well until this week, when during making coffee it began to pop, smoke, hiss, and sounded/smelled like an electrical fire. Smoke was coming from out of the unit long after we unplugged it.
While researching this on line, it appears to be a common problem with this unit. Cuisinart is sending a replacement and asked only for the cord back, so obviously they know where the problem originates. This is a fire hazard, especially if it’s on it’s auto-feature and no one is in the room with it.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart DCC-1200 Series Brew Central Coffee Maker in Black Matte finish
My husband was brewing coffee in our Cuisinart DCC-1200 Brew Central Coffee Maker. He has just finished brewing and poured his first cup of coffee. He then walked into the dining area to have his cup of coffee, when he heard hissing and popping, returned to the kitchen, and the coffee maker had smoke coming out of it. The display went out when this happened and he immediately pulled the plug on the unit.
I researched the history online of any potential problems with this unit, and found numerous complaints, but no recalls by the manufacturer.
I wanted to report this so that any future consumers can be aware of this fire hazard and hopefully have Cuisinart issue a recall of the product.
I will be contacting Cuisinart today to file a complaint and discuss the warranty.

I was able to avert a full fire situation by being present and alerted to the issue so that I could take extreme actions of un plugging and removing from my house.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart classic 12 cup Programmable Coffeemaker DCC-1100 (black)
This morning, my Cuisinart DCC-1100 Series coffee pot (of several years) began to smoke. I regularly set it to brew automatically in the morning. As I was sitting at the kitchen table, I noticed that the machine was making an unusual popping/clicking sound. I didn’t pay much attention until I heard it again, and the noise didn’t sound like the normal clicks of brewing, since the coffee was already made. I noticed the red “on” light was off, which I didn’t do, and the pot wasn’t set to turn off automatically for another hour. (We just had GFI outlets installed because we just moved into an older home). Then as I went over to inspect the machine, I noticed and smelled plastic burning and saw smoke coming up around the coffee pot. I immediately unplugged it, and took it outside. If I had not been at home or if I had forgotten to turn it off today and waited for the auto shut-off, I could have had a kitchen fire after I went to work. Nobody would have been home!
I researched online and found a thread of similar complaints: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/homeowners/cuisinart.html

The product, in the report: Coffee Maker
This morning, while brewing coffee in our Cuisinart DCC-1200 coffee maker, we heard a loud grinding, popping noise coming from the coffee maker. When we went over to the counter where the coffee maker was we saw smoke coming out of the bottom of it and it was producing a horrible electrical burning smell. We immediately unplugged the unit and took it outside. After the smoke subsided and the unit cooled down, we inspected it. The problem seemed to be in the heating element of the unit where the burner was causing the plastic base of the coffee maker to melt and subsequently smoke around the electrical cord of it.
After this happened, we found on the Cuisinart website under Consumer Affairs that there are many reports indicating a similar problem with this model. This is very disappointing as it appears to be a somewhat common issue, and this coffee maker is also rather expensive. This is the second coffee maker by Cusinart (same model) that we’ve had within six years. The first one was the same version of this but stainless steel versus plastic. That one just stopped working after about 3 years. When looking to replace that one, it appeared that Cuisinart replaced it with this plastic version.
Thankfully, we were nearby the kitchen when our coffee maker started burning and smoking so we could take care of it immediately and avoid a larger fire. We will no longer purchase Cuisinart, and hope that this specific make and model coffee maker will be recalled to protect other consumers.

Brewed coffee with our less than year old cuisinart coffee maker, about 30 minutes after brewing the warming plate started to make a little noise and than started smoking up the room. When I saw the smoke I unplugged it.
This coffee maker has an automatic shut off timer. So if I had left for work, would my house have burned to the ground ? Or would my two dogs have died from the smoke filled air ?
Is this a problem that the company knows about ?

The product, in the report: Cuisinart Automatic Coffee Maker. Black in color, 12 cup.
We have had Cuisinart automatic coffee maker for about 1 year. When brewing a new pot of coffee I set it to “Auto On” and it will start at the set time and turn off at the set time. When it has already turned off and I want some of the remaining coffee, I turn it to “Brew”, the heating plate comes on and reheats the coffee.
Yesterday morning when I got up the machine had already cut off at the set time, I wanted to reheat the coffee, so I turned it to “Brew” and pushed on. I went to the bathroom and returned in about 30 seconds and the kitchen was full of smoke, coming from the coffee maker. I unplugged the machine and took it outside, where it continued to smoke for several minutes. The Teflon coating on the heat plate was burned and peeling, the plastic of the machine, near the heating plate was starting to melt. Had I not returned to the kitchen as quickly as I did, this could have set my house on fire. The serial # 90603.

I brewed a pot of coffee like normal yesterday morning. About an hour after the pot finished brewing, I heard a splattering noise in the kitchen. It sounded like eggs frying in a hot pan of butter. I found that the sound was coming from my coffee maker. The coffee was boiling! Smoke was billowing out from the burner. The smell was awful. The on/off light was not on. I switched the lever back and forth and the light wouldn’t come on. It looked off, but the boiling continued until I unplugged the coffee maker. We will not use it again. I hope you will recall the coffee maker before someones house burns down. I am so thankful I was home when the incident happened. This coffee maker has an auto shut off feature, but it failed and can’t be trusted in the future.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart Coffee Maker model DGB-700BC
We own a Cuisinart Burr Grind & Brew model DGB-700BC coffee maker. My husband is awake for work day around 4:30 a.m. and I normally sleep until approximately around the time my husband leaves, or shortly thereafter. The program was set to start the brew process at 4:30 a.m., as is customary in our home. My husband awakened me in a bit of a panic to say that he, needed my assistance to determine the root cause of the smell of electrical smoke in our kitchen. We quickly determined that it was the coffee pot, and observed a thin trial of white smoke arising from the lower back portion of the unit. The unit was immediately unplugged, never again to be plugged in; at least not in our home. I was unnerved to imagine how the story would be told if the unit over-heated after my husband left if I were not yet awake! After locating online similar stories from various other consumers, I called Cuisinart. The agent never requested the age of the unit nor purchase date, but I assume this is because we are on file with their company - the unit in question was the replacement of a warranted unit that failed less than two years before. I was advised that I’d receive the shipment in 7-10 business days. Outrageous!! Surely Cuisinart, if any company, can understand the plight of a rural-living, work-from-home, happily-caffeine-addicted customer who would have to travel approximately 10 miles one way for a commercially made cup of Joe! What’s more, I would hope that my circumstances are not so usual and customary that they would have great difficulty meeting the demand of expediting a shipment to customers who experienced their unit over-heating. After failed efforts with the CSR, her supervisor promised 5-7 business days. It took a voice mail to the director of customer service (which was rapidly returned), and a call to a very competent professional in risk management who was able and willing to do the needful before I was assured that I should expect the package about 1 business day later. I was advised that Cuisinart coffee makers are equipped with 3 (I assume that 2 are for fault tolerance) thermal fuses that prevent the unit from actually catching fire, and to Cuisinart’s credit, I do not find any reports of consumers observing flames after such an incident. However, it’s worth noting that the unit does overheat enough to generate smoke. Also, sparing the minor details of difficulties such as receptionists who want to route you back to customer service or keep you on indefinite hold, or CSRs who direct the customer to corporate, but cannot provide the contact telephone number this experience was akin to a tooth extraction minus even local anesthesia. Compare this to my original warranty replacement was very easy and uneventful, and I’m left baffled for an explanation.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart Coffee Maker, model number DCC 1200, serial number 00917h, black & chrome model.
I have the Cuisinart DCC 1200 in Black & Chrome, purchased at Macy’s in 2010. I programmed the coffee maker to go off at 6:30 a.m. I was in the kitchen making breakfast at 7:20 when I started to smell something weird & then heard some popping & crackling noises. Upon looking around, I noticed the smoke coming from the coffee maker! I unplugged it quickly and took it into the garage before it woke up my 4 children from the smoke alarm and burned my hand in the process.
My concern is that if I hadn’t been awake yet, the potential for a fire could have caused more serious damage, including being life threatening.
Upon googling this, I found numerous complaints about this particular model from Cuisinart and it’s disheartening to know that this is something that’s a known problem yet still being sold. I have left a message at Cuisinart and have no idea what their recourse is but I’m concerned about purchasing another one of their products.

My wife made a small pot of coffee successfully but before removing pot to fill cup was confronted with tremendous odor as though something was burning and/or melting. Didn’t recognize source immediately but became bad enough to alarm children upstairs. Upon realizing coffee making was to blame, unplugged unit and burned hand trying to move off counter. Pot holder needed to remove unit outdoors. Very surprised counter top didn’t melt. Warming plate beneath carafe was clearly so hot as to melt unit’s internals. Second unit to suffer similar fate. Good unit but not worth potential grievous injury. Unit involved is Cuisinart programmable drip coffee maker perhaps 3 years old. Whether it be 3 months or 5 years, I don’t believe there ought be a time limit attached to consumer safety.

This morning I was brewing coffee in our Cuisinart DCC1200. It started gurgling, the warmer plate got extremely hot, the power light went off, there was a strong electrical smell. I’ve now read that this is not an isolated experience with this product. It obviously could have burned our house down.

All of a sudden I smelled smoke and being in the kitchen I saw my coffee pot billowing smoke from underneath and behind unit. The pot was not turned on, nor programmed to be turned on. It also had not been used for many hours prior. There was a horrid smell for many hours and it smoked for a while even after it was unplugged.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart CBC-4400 14-cup coffee maker, black, glass carafe (sn 70412c)
My Cuisinart CBC-4400 coffee maker (sn 70412c) malfunctioned yesterday. This unit has never been abused or improperly used.
Approximately 30 minutes after brewing a pot of coffee, I walked into my kitchen to find smoke billowing from the unit and the acrid smell of burning plastic. I unplugged the unit and moved it outside where it continued to burn for several minutes.
I was lucky to have caught this. Had I used the timer to automatically brew my coffee while my family and I slept, this could easily have led to a fire resulting in injury or death. At the least, had I left the house with the unit on, there would have been a catastrophic fire.
This is entirely unacceptable and, from what I’ve found online, all too common. There is absolutely no reason to engineer a product in this way in this day and age. The engineering and parts cost to make sure this can never happen again is trivial.

They function as safety devices to disconnect the current to the heating element in case of a malfunction (such as a defective thermostat) that would otherwise allow the temperature to rise to dangerous levels, possibly starting a fire.”

I was making my daily amount of coffee (6 cups as measured on the carafe) in the coffee maker as usual when, just as it appeared to have finished the brew cycle, I heard popping noises from across the room and began to smell a putrid smoke. It sounded different from the noise moisture makes when it gets under the carafe, so I thought something might be wrong immediately. When I got over to the coffee maker, I thought initially that the gfi circuit had blown because the clock and “ON” indicator light were both off, but as I pulled the plug, a visible spark occurred. When I pulled the carafe out, I noticed that a portion of the circumference of the warming plate was glowing orange and smoking heavily.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart Brew Central™ 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker Series DCC-1200
I was brewing a pot of coffee this morning using my Cuisinart DCC-1200 series coffeemaker. The brew cycle was normal, but about 1/2 hour after the brewing was finished, I heard a popping noise coming from the device. I then noticed/smelled acrid smoke coming from the coffee maker, and also noted that the coffee in he carafe (that was sitting on the device’s warmer) was beginning to boil. I unplugged the smoking unit and was able to safely remove it to an outdoor location (on a brick patio) where it eventually stopped smoking/ burning. Had I not been able to quickly react (say I was in a different room), I believe the unit could have set fire to some of the surrounding items on the counter top with the potential for starting a serious fire. If Cuisinart continues to sell these, they should include a warning that the unit never be left unattended due to

The product, in the report: Cuisinart DCB-700BC Grind & Brew Coffee Maker
Cuisinart DCB-700BC Grind & Brew coffee maker. We purchased this coffee maker approximately 6 months ago. This morning 7/8/2012 my husband and I were drinking a cup of freshly brewed coffee in our family room when we smelled a hot electrical smell. We traced the smell back to our Cuisinart DCB-700BC Grind & Brew coffee maker located on our kitchen counter that was smoking and extremely hot. We immediately unplugged the coffee maker and cleared the smoke smell from the house. I looked the problem up on the internet and was very surprised to see all of the complaints about the Cuisinart coffee makers over heating, smoking and catching on fire. I am very upset that these coffee makers are still on the market. have not been recalled and that Cuisinart has no concern for consumer safety. I can only imagine what may have happened if we were drinking our coffee on the patio this morning and not caught the problem before the pot went up in flames. Consumers have the right to know that Cuisinart is potentially putting them and their families in harms way.

About 20 minutes after my coffee finished brewing today, I heard a crackle and popping sound. When I got to the kitchen, the coffee was sizzling, the plate was hot, and smoke was pouring out of the base of the coffee maker. The heat from the base was starting to melt the countertop, so I quickly moved the hot maker to the sink by holding the top. It may have automatically shutoff, but it was hot enough briefly to start a fire. I’m so glad I was nearby!

About 1.5 hours after finishing brewing coffee, my Cuisinart DCC-1200 coffee maker began popping noises and smoking from the bottom of the maker. It turned off (all lights and clock) went off. Hot plate start sizzling. I was afraid it was going to catch fire. I unplugged the maker and placed it outside on the pavement for safety reasons.
I had purchased this coffee maker originally on December 26, 2010 at Bed, Bath and Beyond (Foxoboro, MA). It was used almost daily until this incident. I had a previous model from 2002 that lasted 8 years, so was hoping for the same from this maker.
I have read other review of this happening to others on-line. The coffee maker is a fire hazard and should be recalled. Please help us consumers!

Coffee maker had finished brewing a pot, and was in “keep warm” mode for about 30 minutes. We hear a load crackling noise in the kitchen. Coffee in the pot had began to boil. Acrid smoke began pouring from bottom of unit where the blog comes out. Smelled like burning plastic/electrical fire. Fortunately we were in the next room. We removed pot and unplugged the unit and took it outside incase it actually caught fire. Smoke continued to issue from hole in back where cord enters for 5 minutes or so.
