I was making coffee at approximately 3pm EST and the basket of the Cusinart came flying out sputtering hot coffee very close to my eyes. This is the second time the basket propelled itself out with inertia. Both times were almost blinding me with the coffee maker with hot coffee in the coffee pot. The first sign of malfunction was when the coffee wasn’t pumping hot coffee and the plate was the only thing keeping it hot. Yet the beans were scalding the coffee in the pot isn’t hot until it heats up. The first time was approximately April 28th the date of 6/27/26 is exact.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart SS-16 model coffee maker. 0224 is the manufacture date on the back.
My Cuisinart SS-16 coffee marker (0224) had an electrical fire hours after coffee had been brewed. We had made two pots of coffee for 6 people. I do not know if anyone manually turned the pot off, but coffee was finished and we left the house for a few hours. When we returned, someone smelled an electrical fire, and saw smoke coming from the base of the coffee maker. We unplugged it and took it outside. The base was very hot. There were no injuries or damage caused by the coffee maker. I have contacted Cuisinart.

No incident, no one hurt Made Mar 28, 2026, sent to the company Apr 13, 2026, published by CPSC Apr 27, 2026
The product, in the report: automatic drip coffeemaker
Condensate water is dripping down to the power cord on the back side of the cuisinart DCC-3200 coffeemaker. When opening the lid after brewing, a significant amount of condensate water drips from under the lid and down the back side of the machine and onto the power cord. This has been occurring from day one of use, (approx. 2-1-26) and creates a safety hazard. Other than that, the machine works normally. The machine was stored brand new in its original box since my wife bought it brand new at the end of 2017. We did not need to start using it, however, until the start of February 2026, as our old machine refused to die. Also, this same DCC-3200 model is still being sold on Amazon.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart brew central coffeemaker, 12 cup programmable, black. Model DC 1200 Serial number D/C 3820Y
Cuisinart 12 cup Programmable Coffeemaker model DCC 1200 serial no.. D/C 3820Ybegan boiling coffee and emitting foul blue smoke immediately after completing a brew cycle. Slight blue flame observed after removing carafe. It did trip the breaker. Called Cuisinart, all they did was offer a 20% ‘discount’ on new one. This gives me no comfort, if I hadn’t been in the room at the time it would have started a fire! It was dangerous as the coffee was so hot it continued boiling after removal. The fumes were most likely toxic, the coffeemaker was removed to outside after being unplugged.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart DGB-450 grind and brew coffee maker. Number on prong 3121BN. Company asked for prong number when I reported it to them
I had a Cuisinart DGB450 coffee maker that randomly turned itself on. The integrated coffee grinder just started grinding, not sure if the heater started heating. It is unsafe as it could start a fire.
I unplugged it overnight for safety reasons. It did it again this morning. There is evidence via a websearch that this has happened to others.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart Brew Central 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker - black with silver control panel
This involves a Cuisinart Model DCC-1200 coffeemaker. On Oct. 8, 2024, at about 10:15 AM, as my wife and I were getting ready to leave the house for several hours, the coffeemaker started making some strange crackling noises. When we looked, we saw smoke pouring out of the top and bottom. We quickly unplugged the appliance and, before it could do any damage to our house, carried it out to the driveway and placed it away from the house. What made this incident so scary is that had we left our house two minutes earlier, it could have started a fire.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart Premium Single-Serve Coffeemaker, Model SS -10, 72 Fluid Ounces, 9.33”D x 11.03” W x 12.13”H
I am an adult and have a one-year-old Cuisinart SS-10 Premium Single-Serve Coffeemaker. When used, my ground fault circuit interrupter trips and the coffee maker smells like burning rubber or plastic. This has happened several times within the last week. I suspect if left unattended or if I continued using the product, a fire may occur or damage to my household electrical system. Fortunately, no one was injured. The coffee maker was placed on my indoor kitchen’s granite countertop.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart Coffeemaker Model # SS-10 Serial # 3621
I purchased a Cuisinart/ConAir coffeemaker and it was about 6 months old. It was brewing a cup of coffee on 12/16/2022 and it made a loud noise and started to burn. It quit working and I unplugged it and took it outside. I contacted Cuisinart/Conair customer service and they asked for me to send it to them for evaluation. After, a few months they did send a report/email stated that there engineers determined that there was an internal issue in the machine. I asked for a refund and I had to replace the GFI outlet because that tripped when the machine shorted. They were not very helpful, and did finally refund the cost of the machine, but not the GFI outlet or repair costs. This was a dangerous incident and it did smell of something burning in the machine. Luckily, it was plugged into a GFI outlet and may have prevented a potential fire. I think that the US CPSC should be aware of this dangerous product that could cause fires.
UPDATED ON 4/20/2023: [The risk of harm for the product below was fire and or shock due to the short circuit while operating and smell of something burning. I immediately unplugged the coffeemaker and took it outside. There was a short circuit and something burned internally on the product. This was while it was operating under normal conditions.]

Used with the black filter housing cone and carafe that came with the coffee maker, as well as a reusable filter. Coffee maker has a replaceable charcoal water filter.
What happened and what type of product: Walked into my kitchen and smelled something burning, which turned out to be my coffee maker (Cuisinart PG-11358B). I kept the coffee maker in case anyone would like to take a look. Who was using the product: No one. I had made a pot of coffee earlier in the day, but the coffee maker was off when this incident occurred. How were the products being used: Coffee pot was not in use but was plugged in Were there any injuries that happened or may have happened while using the product: No injuries happened, but the house could have burned down. The Cuisinart coffee maker began making a loud popping noise. Upon further inspection I noticed it had began smoking and smelling of melting plastic then tripping the electrical supply breaker at the main electrical panel. The coffee maker was purchased 3 years ago almost to the day. The warranty is 3 years. We have owned about 5 previous Cuisinart model coffee makers in the past and this is the first time we had a problem like this.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart 12 cup coffee percolator. Black base with metal container. It is model PRC-12, SN:D/C:0421.
I have a Cuisinart PRC-12 coffee percolator. When I make my normal small pot of coffee, it works well. When I make a full pot of coffee, it trips my GFCI breaker. This is a replacement percolator supplied by the manufacturer. The original did the same thing. I reported it to the manufacturer and received this one from them under warranty. Since both percolators failed in the same way, I’m guessing there is a design or manufacturing issue. I don’t know if there is a danger with this product. If there is an electrical short to the metal pot, I am being protected by the GFCI curcuit.

The product, in the report: PerfecTemp 14-cup Programmable Coffeemaker model DCC-3200 serial number 50622
What made me want to file a report was when my wife lifted up the coffeemaker to clean the counter top and the bottom of the unit completely fell out and disintegrated. The rusted and corroded base plate on a PerfecTemp 14-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker by Cuisinart disintegrated after normal use over about 6 years and exposed electrical wires and components in the bottom of the coffeemaker. This gapping hole poses an electrical saftey and fire hazard. Being on the very bottom of the unit and out of view, the corrosion went unnoticed when cleaning the counter top because there is no warning in the manual to look under the coffeemaker for corrosion and you do not turn the coffeemaker upside down when you clean it. My wife and I use the product daily using the instruction unit guidelines. Potential injuries include electrical shock and fire.

The product, in the report: Single serve, electric coffee maker
The consumer’s wife used the coffee maker and water came into the cup, but it was weak. There was very little coffee flavor. She made another cup and it was fine.
The consumer checked the coffee maker and there are metal puncture pieces on the top and bottom. The consumer said he has cleaned the coffee maker in the past and had to be careful, not to prick his finger. When he checked it today, he found that the top puncture piece was gone and had broken off. The consumer did not find that broken piece. There were no injuries.
4/16/2021: The consumer called the manufacturer and reported the problem to them. Their rep. (name unknown), told him it was past the warranty and they could not replace it. However, they would offer 20% off the purchase of a new item. The consumer is not sure what he will do.
There have not been any injuries, but he is very concerned about the possibility of an injury with this type of problem.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart coffee maker - model DCC-1200
My Cuisinart 12-cup coffee maker - model DCC-1200 - started smoking.
The coffee had already been made about one hour prior. The burner was on to keep the coffee warm. I was in the kitchen when I heard about 3 or 4 clicks and then I saw some smoke coming from the coffee pot. It took me about 5 or 10 seconds to unplug it at which time the burning smell was evident and the smoke was more significant.
No fire started -- most likely because I unplugged it in time. I understand now this is not that uncommon for electric coffee pots --- that when the thermostat fails a smoke or fire situation is very likely.

The product, in the report: Electric countertop coffee maker
The consumer’s wife was making coffee and heard an unusual noise and saw flame that flashed for a second. She immediately turned it off and unplugged it from the wall outlet. It also tripped the GFCI on the electrical wall outlet, itself.
She and the consumer examined it a bit later and found that the electrical cord was frayed near the end that connects to the base of the coffee maker. The consumer said that he could see the physical wires and the rubber coating appears broken in an area, less than an inch.
Damage was limited to the coffee maker.
5/28/2020: The consumer started contacting the firm about this matter. It seemed as if the firm documented the details, but did not provide any resolutions as to what they may offer.
Through early June 2020, the consumer followed up with them numerous times. Eventually, they offered to investigate the matter and provided a label to return the product. The consumer called UPS after receiving the label and was told there would be a $12 charge to pick it up. The consumer called the firm back and they claimed that they prepaid the label. Afterwards, the firm agreed to send a physical label by mail and told the consumer he could attach it to the product and mail it to him.
The firm’s rep. indicated that once they received the product, they would investigate it and try to identify the cause. After the investigation, they will determine if they will provide any assistance to the consumer.
The consumer has been communicating with Conair Corporate Claims Dept. (Claim # [REDACTED]). This is supposedly the parent company.
The firm also told the consumer that the product was out of warranty.
Note: As an update to this report, on June 12, 2020 I had my electrical outlet assessed for damages due to the electrical malfunction of the coffeemaker and he charged $100 for that assessment. In addition we are seeking reimbursement for having loss of [...] get daily coffee until this delay by the manufacturer is remedied by also [...] the coffeemaker (which we were told was discontinued with an equipment or upgraded model.

My coffee maker over-heated and began to smoke this morning. The brewing cycle was complete and the coffee maker was on keep-warm. My wife and I heard a loud popping sound in the kitchen coming from the coffee maker. We un-plugged it immediately, and noticed that it was producing smoke and a bad odor. The coffee in the pot was almost boiling, and there is a visible crack in the warmer. I believe we averted a fire by un-plugging the unit quickly. We were fortunate that this happened on a Sunday morning and had not left for work as would be typical in a weekday.

This morning I put about 16oz of water and coffee into my Drip Coffee Maker, DCC-3650. A few minutes later I heard a couple pops, kind of like when there is water on the bottom of the carafe, but they seemed louder somehow. This attracted my attention which is when I noticed a burning odor. I went over to the coffee maker and noticed that it was smoking and that the hot plate was bright red. I had never seen the red ring of the hot plate before. I pulled the plug and ran outside with the unit. The coffee maker was smoking heavily by then but did not burst into flames. I have lots of photos I took of it if you want to see them. There really isn’t any outside damage. I also remember that there was a weird code on the display that I thought was an ERR or something like that.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart DTC-975BKN Programmable Automatic Brew-and-Serve 12-cup Thermal coffeemaker.
Bought a Cuisinart DTC-975BKN Programmable 12 cup coffee maker. I had read other reviewers Amazon complaints that it tends to spill over and has caused burns. I thought it was user error, so I read the directions carefully but it happened to me too. The coffee maker does not safely brew more than 8 cups. The coffee maker kept spilling over, then the third time used, just stopped working. Amazon exchanged it, and the replacement did the same thing.
I got second degree burns all over my left hand trying to catch it before it made a big mess. Other Amazon reviewers reported the same thing.
I contacted Cuisinart, and after many many email exchanges, their best offer was to have me ship the coffee maker to them, have them examine it, and if they determined that it was defective, they would send another replacement. I told them I thought it was a defect in design, not in manufacture, so an examination would not help, and they design needed to be improved to make it safe.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart PerfecTemp 14-cup Coffee Maker. Model: DCC-3200W
On July 18, 2018 I contacted Cuisinart Customer Service because my coffeemaker (Model: DCC-3200W) was leaking water from the bottom of the coffeemaker. The product was still under warranty and they sent me a replacement product. Not even 6 months later, the replacement coffeemaker is having the same problem - even worse. ( So two coffeemakers, same model, both leaking water from the bottom.)
When water is placed in the reservoir for overnight auto-programming to make coffee in the morning; as it passes through the system, somewhere water leaks out. This time 14-cups of water leaked onto my counter, onto the wood floors, behind the stove and its outlet and drench everything else on the countertop. It is causing a safety issue as when it leaks, because first, if you don’t know the water everywhere is hot, you burn yourself, when you clean it up (like I did this morning). Secondly, if you don’t notice it right away (as in this morning), the electric cord where it goes into the unit sits in the water. Furthermore, you can smell a burning scent as it is dripping on the inside of the coffeemaker and getting onto the internal heating element. The original date of my problem started in February of 2018. I notified the company in July 2018, replacement sent out on July 19th and now the replacement product has the same issue (January 2019).

The product, in the report: Cuisinart electric coffee maker
I had purchased a Cuisinart electric coffee maker DCC-2800 about 4 years ago. The item is in a weekend home so is not used daily. I noticed there was some leakage in front of article and for some time I thought it was spilling coffee. The issue was intermittent at first.Yesterday I picked up the machine and discovered the entire metal plate on the bottom was corroded and half missing. I believe this could be dangerous and called Cuisinart customer service. The service agent was rude and only was concerned if there was an injury . I informed her there was a stain on my countertop but that was not primary concern, which was the unit was a potential hazard. She indicated it was no longer under warranty and there could be no follow up without a report. I told her I had sent photos to customer service and was primarily concerned regarding a safety hazard, bottom line, they only would take a report if there was an injury or damage. Fortunately I asked to speak with the supervisor who took a damage report ( indelible black stain on Formica countertop.) I kept explaining that that was not my major concern and asked if they had seen the photos I sent. They said it was a separate department for e mails and I would hear from the insurance company within two weeks.... but onlynabout the countertop. Since the call I checked reviews on other models of Cuisinart coffee makers and there are similar report of corroded bottom plates which cover the electric unit. Why are these products not recalled? The safety aspect needs investigation.

My wife and I had originally purchased a Cusinart DGB 700 grind and brew coffee maker 2 yrs ago. With the original coffee maker approximately 6-8mo after purchase I heard a loud clicking sound after brewing a pot of coffee and noted profuse amounts of smoke and burning plastic smell coming from the machine. This was reported to Cuisinart, who replaced the machine and we sent it back to them for analysis. The replacement machine broke approx 1 yr later due to a faulty grinder. The re-replacement of said machine and a similar incident to the first machine this morning after brewing a pot of coffee. The hot plate portion of the machine was glowing red when I removed the pot of coffee from the machine. Increasing amount of smoke and burning plastic smell were noted as well. This seems to be a pattern of hot plate overheating with significant fire risk.

The product was being used to make cold brew coffee. Everything was prepared and ready to go with the last step pouring water into the machine. It was during this last pour that I heard a ping which was weird but I turned the machine on. Luckily I was a little worried/curious about the ping sound prior to finishing the brew. I looked closer at the glass carafe and noticed it had cracked where the handle attached. The brewer was still running and I needed to be sure that no glass has entered the drink. I ran my finger along the crack on the inside and a tiny shard came loose on my finger. I then shut down the machine and disposed of the contents. However I don’t think it is safe to use and could easily result in injuries.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart Brew Central 14-cup Programmable Coffeemaker (model CBC-6400PC)
This morning I received second-degree burns when the bottom of my coffeepot spontaneously fell out, inundating my feet with scalding coffee. I’m wondering if I have an actionable case.
Details: At 6:15 a.m. I arose and went downstairs to get my first cup of coffee, as is my habit.
The Cuisinart Brew Central 14-cup Programmable Coffeemaker (model CBC-6400PC) had turned on automatically at 5:30 a.m., as usual, so the coffee was hot and ready.
As I lifted the full glass pot from the coffeemaker and moved it toward my adjacent cup, the bottom of the glass pot broke out, and the hot coffee was released all at once onto my feet. I did not bump the pot against any other surfaces. There was no impact with anything.
I was wearing socks, and the hot liquid remained in contact with my skin until, in panic, I hurried into the bathroom and submerged each foot in the toilet in turn.
Both feet received second-degree burns, which were diagnosed and treated at a PeaceHealth urgent care center around 9:30 this morning. The left foot, of which I’ve attached a couple of pictures, suffered much greater damage.
Until it heals, which the doctor said would be possibly two weeks, I’ll be unable to wear shoes and therefore unable to go outside or partake of my daily hikes or frequent bike rides or rounds of golf.
The pot that broke had no previous apparent imperfections and had been used and washed normally since we bought it from Costco on June 1, 2016.
The break in the glass followed the pot’s lower metal band partway and also separated in a clean line along the bottom edge of the pot, as the attached photos show. I’m no engineer, but it seems that the nature of the break indicates a weakness in the glass rather than any accidental impact.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart 12-cup coffee maker #DCC-1100BK
In normal use of my Cuisinart 12-cup coffee maker (once daily) I noticed that the power cord was deformed. Upon closer observation I discovered it it actually melting! This is the second time I’ve had an electrical problem with the same model coffee maker from Cuisinart. In fact a previous device (same modal) nearly caught fire in the base of the unit. Thankfully for me only smoke and stench without fire.

The product, in the report: Single serve coffee brewing system which uses Keurig K cups.
We purchased a Cuisinart Model SS-5 coffee maker to use primarily in our motor home. The coffee maker is designed to use Keurig K cups. The coffee maker has not operated properly since we bought it. After inserting the K cup into the machine, you are to lower the upper portion of the machine which punctures the top of the K cup and seals the top to the cup before the brewing process starts. Apparently the puncturing device on the underside of the top piece was poorly designed as it pushes down on the top of the K cup causing the top of the K cup to separate from the cup itself. When the brewing process starts, hot water and steam escapes from several points around the “seal” which does not seal. This is hazardous to the consumer! I have been burned a couple of times. Another issue with this coffee maker, although not a safety issue, is the amount of coffee the machine makes at one time. Even if you select the 10 ounce size, you get a half a cup at best! The machine supposedly has a three year warranty but I have not been able to elicit a response from Cuisinart to date. I recently noticed at a store that carries coffee makers that Cuisinart has discontinued Model SS-5 and replaced it with Model SS-6. The puncturing device on the underside of the top of the unit has been re-designed and is much sharper and punctures straight down. Obviously Cuisinart knew it had a problem with the SS-5 and changed the design!

My Cuisinart® Grind & Brew™ 12-Cup Automatic Coffee Maker Model DGB-700BC almost start a fire yesterday. About 30 minutes after the normal morning brewing completed. I noticed a melting plastic smell. I then heard the coffee, that was still in the carafe, start to boil. I removed the carafe and noticed the hot plate was smoking. I tried to turn off the unit by pressing the off button, but the control panel was unresponsive. I finally unplugged the coffee maker and took it out of the house. The bottom of the unit was too hot to touch. The counter top, under the unit, had signs of scorching. Had I not been near the kitchen, to smell the burning plastic, I sure the unit would have caught fire.

The product, in the report: Classic programmable coffee maker 12 cup
I just sent by email an issue on an unsafe coffee maker toCuisinart as follows:
We have a Coffee maker DCC-1100 which came on unexpectantly by itself this morning. It was programmed for 5:45 am and it came on and brewed and turned off at approximately 7:45. I poured a cup sometime after that and it was in fact off. Sometime in the next hour my wife smelt something burning.
The coffee was boiling and something smelled like it was burning: maybe coffee or maybe electrical. We unplugged it.
I drained the coffee which was still hot liquid.
I am not sure when we purchased it, but the serial # is 90908.
My concern is what if this would have happened if we had left home this morning.
Please address this safety issue and let me know what you find. I have saved the device if you want to examine it.
Thank you,

The product, in the report: Cusinart dgb-900bc. However, reading online it appears this is a general design problem with all Cuisinart coffee makers.
Cuisinart coffee maker was leaking water when in use. Noticed that the heating element was leaking water. The appliance is designed poorly so that when the heating element expands, it will expand into the retaining bar causes water leaks of boiling water into the counter and into the coffee maker case.
One safety concern is water and electricity mixing to cause a shock.
Another danger is the retaining bar rusting through and the heating element dropping onto the plastic causing a fire hazard.
The next danger is boiling water scalding someone.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart Model DCC-1100BK, Serial #11216 Automatic drip coffee maker.
I was in my kitchen when I heard a sound coming form the drip coffee maker. It was the sound of the coffee in the holding pot boiling. Then I smelled wires burning. I ran over to unplug the machine. It had shorted out.
Upon examination, a hose that runs from the water tank to the heating element split right at a clamp point. This allowed water to flow into the electronics compartment.
I have no doubt this would have caused a fire had I not been present.

We have a cuisinart coffee maker (DCC - 750 series; 120V AC 60 HZ 1025 W serial # 31209A) bought from Boscovs about 3 years ago. Today I heard a popping sound. The coffee pot was not on at the time. All of the sudden, I smelled a strong acrid stench and smoke was pouring out of the back. The smoke seemed to be coming from underneath and filled the house. We immediately uplugged the machine and rushed it outside. If I hadn’t noticed this I am afraid my house could have burned down. We looked to consumer report to see if others had run into this problem. It seems that hundreds of people have had this same issue and yet Cuisinart is still selling this coffee maker. It also seems as if you CPSC has been contacted repeatedly. I don’t understand how nothing has been done. Please contact me at ASAP to tell me what can be done ([REDACTED]).

Today after brewing a pot of coffee my Cuisinart DGB-700BC Grind-and-Brew 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker, Brushed Chrome/Black almost caught fire. About 30 minutes after the coffee had finished brewing the unit began to crackle and make strange noises. I then noticed that the unit was smoking from the heat plate and it smelled like there was an electrical fire. I quickly realized what was happening and I was able to unplug the unit before it got any worse, I am just thankful that I happened to come back into the kitchen at that very moment. I’m afraid what might have happened had I not been right there when this all started, I went on Amazon which is where I purchased the product and apparently this is a very commonly reported problem. Not even sure how this thing is still being sold. It is a fire hazard and is going to end up killing someone.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart 12 cup grind and brew coffee maker Product dimensions are 19.9 x 16.1 x 15.6 inches Black and stainless steel
I own the Cuisinart (model DGB-700BC) 12 cup grind and brew coffee maker. On the day of the incident, I brewed coffee and left the coffee maker on to keep the coffee warm. It has an auto shutoff feature so I usually leave it on without worry. About an hour after I brewed my coffee, I heard the coffee pot moving around and I thought it was my husband moving it. As I walked to the kitchen, I noticed a smell of burning plastic. When I got to the kitchen, I saw the coffee pot bouncing on the coffee maker’s warming plate and smoke emanating from around the bottom of the machine. I immediately unplugged the coffee maker and placed it outside. I had to open all of the doors and windows in my house to air out the smell. The smell caused me to gag and gave me a headache and nauseous feeling for the rest of the day. After this incident, I searched online to see if other customers have reported similar incidents. There are many reviews online of people reporting the same experience that I had. Cuisinart has offered to replace my coffee maker since it is still within the limited warranty period. I have had this coffee maker for 1 year and 1 month and for $180 I expected it to last longer and not attempt to burn my house down. I am worried I will have the same experience with the replacement since customers have also reported that their replacement coffee makers also burned out. I think this item is a fire hazard and needs to be recalled in order for Cuisinart to investigate the issue of this particular model’s affinity to start smoking. I am honestly surprised this item has not already been recalled given the number of reports of this coffee maker smoking and burning out. It seems to me like Cuisinart has chosen to ignore the complaints in the interest of profits.

Had set our Cuisinart Burr Grind & Brew to grind and brew as we do most mornings. My husband left for work at 5am and I happened to get up early. When I was in the kitchen getting my coffee mug , the appliance started smoking, the heat plate turned bright red and began sparking beneath the bright red plate. It was overheated, smoking, and had a strong electrical smell. I had to unplug the appliance and take it outside as my kitchen was filling with smoke. It no longer works. If I had awoken or had not been in the kitchen at this time my house with me in it would have been in flames. I am furious this happened and even more so after reading that other consumers have had similar problems. What does it take to issue a recall? A house in flames? A needless painful fiery death? What??

The product, in the report: Coffee Maker with an insulated carafe. The top of the carafe twists off/on but is not properly sealing, so when you are pouring, the hot coffee runs down the carafe and drips off the bottom. Since it is under the carafe, you can’t see the coffee running until it drips on you or the floor/counter top.
Purchased a new Cuisinart Model DCC-1150 Coffee Maker to be used in an office by 5 people. The FIRST time we used it the carafe leaked hot coffee from the poring spout which ran down the pot and dripped hot coffee on the user. I called Cuisinart and was advised that since this coffee pot is being used by a business, the warranty is void. Due to the hazardous issue with this carafe, we are no longer using it. I can understand that a warranty would have a shorter limitation if it is being used in an office environment, but that should be no excuse for one that is hazardous and new out of the box.

The product, in the report: Grind and Brew 12 cup Coffee Maker
Cuisinart DGB-700BC Grind and Brew coffee maker hot plate shorted out at some point after brew cycle ended. Acrid electrical smell emitted from unit at the base and hot plate warped upwards from center. The was noticed after the actual event occurred, however it was very obvious something was wrong and we immediately got the unit outside for safety. This unit was new and only been in use for two to three months under normal household conditions, i.e, every morning coffee.
I contacted Cuisinart by phone for warranty replacement and a whole new unit was shipped. I never received the return shipping label for bad unit and I still HAVE IT, just in case they called for it at some point. This is extremely important as I will be creating a SECOND incident report after this one since the replacement unit failed the same way, yesterday, 9/9/16.

Cuisinart DGB-700BC Grind-and-Brew 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker.
This incident is being reported for the replacement unit which was replaced due to report 20160910-86282-2147414326. In other words, two units had the exact same issue.
On 9/9/16 we heard unusual sounds emitting from the unit just after the brew cycle ended. Upon turning around, we witnessed white, acrid smoke coming from the base (plate) of the unit at the bottom ‘seam’ of the plastic. We immediately unplugged the unit and took it outside.
As with our first unit, it seems the hot plate shorted, but this time the plate did not warp as it did with the first unit, probably because we had disconnected electrical so quickly. (On the first unit, we were not in the kitchen when the incident occurred, it was the smell that clued us in then).
I am beginning the process of getting my money back for these unsafe devices.
They cannot be found on the website anymore as a current product.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart grind and brew - 2 models
Cuisinart grind and brew coffee machine -- I’ve had two models (the second that was a replacement) that have started crackling and smoking. Cuisinart, after a long process, replaced the one from the fire it caused in May. The new one they sent is doing the same thing. I’ve researched online and can see that several customers have already submitted complaints to you but nothing has been recalled yet. Cuisinart has been uncooperative in is refunding these hazardous machines. Even a simple google review will yield dozens and dozens of reports of this happening and people nearly losing their homes to fires.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart Black and Chrome 12-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker Model # DGB-700BC
We have a Cuisinart Black and Chrome 12-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker, Model # DGB-700BC It is less than a year old. Today the base of it caught on fire. Luckily, my husband was in the kitchen when this happened and was able to unplug it and throw it in the sink. The coffee maker is programmable. Usually, it is set to make coffee at 7 am and we are often not down for another half hour or so. If this had occurred we could have had a real tragedy. When we looked on line many, many other people (pages worth) have had the same problem. Cuisinart will do nothing but offer a replacement. I would not feel safe with another of the same coffee maker in my kitchen. Why has this not been recalled?

Purchased Cuisinart DGB-700BC Grind-and-Brew 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker December 2015, this morning the machine was being used to make coffee as usual. After making the coffee it keeps the coffee pot warm, it appears the heating element may have shorted out and set fire to the other electrical components inside the machine. The machine was on fire.
We took it outside immediately.
No injuries sustained.
The house still smells strongly of electrical smoke.
Contacted Cuisinart today to request a replacement of a different model, am not confident that they will replace it as other reviews online state that they are unreasonable. Many reviews online with this exact scenario. Scary.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart 12 cup coffee maker - black Model DCC 1100 SN 90608
Cuisinart Model DCC1100 12 cup coffee maker. I was making a small pot of coffee, and waiting for it to finish, when I smelled a strong odor of burning electrical components and/or plastic. I noticed a significant amount of smoke coming from the back of the unit, where the power cord enters. The power light had gone out. I unplugged the unit and raised the fill cover. A large amount of smoke billowed out. The bottom of the unit was almost too hot to touch.
After placing the unit in the sink I searched online and found many references to similar incidents involving this and other Cuisinart products. Based on these online complaints, Cuisinart is apparently not particularly concerned about, or responsive to, the potential fire hazard their products present.
I plan to contact Cuisinart concerning this issue, but don’t expect much satisfaction if their response to previous complaints is any guide.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart 12-Cup Extreme Brew Elite Coffee Maker with Glass Carafe, Model DCC-3650
The product is a Cuisinart 12-Cup Extreme Brew Elite Coffee Maker with Glass Carafe. The coffee maker carries a model number of DCC-3650 and was purchased in September 2015 at Williams-Sonoma. The coffee maker worked properly until February 17, 2016. On the evening of February 17, 2016, the coffee maker was connected to power, but not turned on. The coffee maker had been off for approximately 12 hours. Spontaneously, the coffee maker began heating and producing thick smoke with a strong, acrid smell. Smoke filled the kitchen, which the product owners noticed, and proceeded to unplug the device and carry outside. Prior to unplugging, the device displayed “Erh” on the LED screen. The exact duration of the heating episode is not known, as the coffee maker was “off” for most of the day, and still presented as “off” at incident. At the time of the incident, the coffee maker was extremely hot. After the coffee maker had time to cool, it was noted that discoloration had occurred on the “hot plate” and the glass carafe.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart DCC-3000 Coffee on Demand 12-Cup Coffee Maker
We have a Cuisinart DCC-3000 Coffee on Demand 12-Cup Coffee Maker that on several different occasions has not retained the extremely hot coffee and sent it pouring out of the machine onto the floor and into my cabinets below the machine. We had the coffee machine set up to brew automatically, so all of the coffee came out of the machine before we even realized what was happening. Cuisinart is aware of this issue and sent a new reservoir. The new reservoir also failed spilling extremely hot coffee again into my kitchen. My understanding of the product is that the opening where the coffee comes out of the reservoir does not always close. This should never ever happen! Thank goodness my pets and children were not in the room, but if they had been, they definitely would have gotten burned from the hot coffee pouring onto the floor. Immediate action needs to be taken before any serious injuries occur.

On the incident date, about 15 minutes after brew was complete, the coffeemaker issued loud popping sounds, filled the kitchen with smoke and a strong electrical smell. Because I was still at home this particular day, I was able to pull the plug and air out the room and avert what I believe was the start of an electrical fire. On any other day, I may have left the house with the coffeemaker still on, trusting that the automatic shut-off feature would turn the pot off.

The product, in the report: Coffee maker model #DCC-2205, 14 cup programmable black. Serial # 40609Y
This morning my Cuisinart DCC-2205 14 cup coffee maker started making a weird buzzing noise. After investigating it, I realized the coffee was literally boiling. So I pulled out the carafe, and smoke started billowing out from the unit itself. I unplugged it immediately and put it outside. The smell it gave off was horrendous, like burnt plastic. The hot plate must’ve gotten so hot it cooked my coffee and the machine caught fire. I didn’t really think too much of it until I looked up CUISINART COFFEE makers and saw many, many complaints of the same EXACT thing. They were all the way from 2009, 6 years pior. My machine isn’t even 1 year old. Clearly this problem hasn’t been fixed, nor do they care to. I want to prevent someone else from having their house burn down from Cuisinart’s carelessness. They don’t care because they’re making $130+ from these hazardous machines.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart DCC-1200 Coffee Maker - Serial # 1116
This morning I brewed a couple cups of coffee with my Cuisinart DC-1200 coffemaker. After pooring my second cup of coffee, I switched off (toggle on front of machine) the coffemaker and went upstairs. About 4-5 minutes later I smelled a burning electrical/plastic odor. When I went downstairs to investigate, acrid smoke was pouring out of the coffee maker. I unplugged the unit and placed it outside. I’ve been airing out the smoke to try to remove the smell from the house.
If I had not happened to be home, I believe this would have ignited the kitchen cabinetry and possibly destroyed my home.
I’ve spoken with Cuisinart customer service. They’ve offered to replace the machine with an alternate Cuisinart coffee maker. I asked them if they wanted me to save the machine so they could analyze it for the problem. They’ve asked that I cut the cord and send the cord back to an address in Arizona. Instead, I think I’ll play it safe and purchase a different brand.

The led light was off but the warming plate was very hot. I removed the craft and the warming plate was smoking and had a burning plastic smell. I unplugged the unit and cared it out side while it was still smoking. I wonder if I was not home to unplug it would it have created a fire?

The product, in the report: Cuisinart DCC-1150BK 10-Cup Programmable Thermal Coffeemaker
Item: Cuisinart DCC-1150bk
After six months the coffee maker started overflowing. I contacted Cuisinart and they immediately sent me a new basket and pot lid and stated that if it happened again they would replace the unit. The parts arrived at no cost to me and I replaced them. Seven months has gone buy and the pot is overflowing again, when this happens not only does it spill coffee onto the counter top and floor it soaks the electrical portion of the maker. I called back and now they state the maker is out of warranty (three year warranty) I advised them I have the receipt and it was purchased August 2014, first problem noted February 2015 and again September 2015. I advised customer service this was a design problem and had the potential to cause an electrical shock or burn hazard. I was looking to get this unit replaced in hopes the flaw or design issue would be corrected but I was told that by manufacturer date the item was out of warranty. I got the impression they know there is a problem but are being told not to say anything, one of the customer service staff gave me the name of the service manager and suggested I write him because there notes are not always taken seriously.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart Grind and Brew 12-cup coffee maker, no model number apparent. Black body and silver face to the machine.
My Cuisinart 12 -cup Grind and Brew coffee maker is used in my home to make one pot of coffee a day. I got it for Christmas in 2012. Today, on Aug. 29, 2015, the coffee maker overheated and wires started burning. Thankfully we were near the coffee maker and noticed it before something bad happened. I left the burner on for several hours, but that was no reason for the coffee maker to become a fire hazard.

After partially brewing a pot of coffee the whole machine turned off on its own. Then the burner plate started getting bright red (which it doesn’t even do when brewing or keeping the coffee warm) and smoking. My kitchen was filled with smoke and the smell of fire and burnt plastic. I have read many people on amazon having the exact same thing happen to them. If I was not in the kitchen when I was this machine would have started a fire in my home.

The product, in the report: Cusinart DGB-700BC Grind and Brew 12-cup automatic coffee maker. Glass carafe. Brushed chrome/black. The coffeemaker measures 10-2/3 by 8-4/9 by 16-1/4 inches.
I have owned the Cuisinart DGB-700BC grind and brew coffee maker for several years. Yesterday, I was sitting in the kitchen and I heard a crackling sound coming from the coffee maker. The unit had automatically turned itself off as it does every day so it wasn’t on, but it was plugged in. I went to check and see if something had gotten on the hotplate. It was super hot and smoke was rising from it. Then I noticed smoke coming out of the back of the coffee maker where the plug comes out. I immediately unplugged it. If I hadn’t been home, this most certainly would have caused an electrical fire.

The product, in the report: 12-Cup Coffee Maker
05/17/2015 - Fifteen minutes after the consumer had made herself and her husband some coffee, the consumer’s husband explains that he smelled smoke coming from the adjacent kitchen. When they went to check what was happening, they noticed the smoke was coming from their coffee maker as the unit was melting.
The consumer indicates that the coffee maker stays on for two hours after the coffee is done in order to keep the remaining coffee warm.
The consumer indicates that this is the first time she has had any issues with this specific coffee maker, which is actually a replacement to another coffee maker of the same model that she owned. This original coffee maker was replaced by the manufacturer because of the same problem: it had melted. For this same reason, the consumer does not intend to contact the manufacturer as she does not feel safe using their coffee makers.
The consumer checked online and found out that hundreds of reviews had been submitted on [REDACTED] about consumers who had similar issues to hers.
The consumer has no injuries to report nor damages other than the one to her coffee maker. The consumer believes this product poses a safety hazard.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart 1100 coffee pot, black
We brewed our usual cup of coffee this morning and about 10 minutes after it finished brewing, I heard a crackling noise. I went over to the coffee pot and saw it was off but the coffee was boiling and i saw smoke forming around the base. I pulled the coffee pot off and the heat plate was smoking. Then I saw the back of the coffee pot was smoking, where the electrical cord comes out of the pot. I unplugged it and it was still smoking, got worse and was smelling really bad, like an electrical fire and plastic (this all happened within a minute, so, very quickly). My husband grabbed it and put it outside in the snow. It continued to smoke for at least 30 minutes afterwards.

The product, in the report: 12 cup coffeemaker
Caller purchased her coffeemaker from Kohls, Tucson, AZ sometime in 2012 and caller did not notice that there was a problem in what she believes is a design flaw after speaking with a family member who informed her that his coffee maker of the same model has the same problem.
This caller is reporting that condensation runs down the back of her 12 cup cuisinart coffee maker from the steam holes into the electrical wiring plug.
On February 22nd, 2015 the caller heard crackling and smell an odd burning odor coming from her kitchen, she narrowed it to her coffeemaker.
This resulted in an actual burning inside the unit on February 22nd, 2015.
She was in another room, heard crackling and smelled an odd burning odor. She immediately unplugged it and called for her husband who carried outside and allowed it to cool.
They can no longer use this unit because the odor of burning is detected as quickly as it is opened.
There were no injuries to report.
The caller has not contacted the manufacturer but does intend to contact them.
This is the callers’ 2nd 12 cup Cuisinart Coffee Maker. Their first one was a wedding gift which they used from July 2007 to June 2012. It stopped working & she took it to Kohls & they replaced it with the one that just shorted out & almost caused a fire.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart drip coffee maker, Serial # 10310--Model # DCC-1100 Black 12 cup
This is the letter I sent to the Cuisinart company. The pictures are attached later in this form. They have not responded to my Email. Below is a picture of my adult daughters hand. She was burnt while pouring herself a cup of, just brewed, coffee from the Cuisinart coffee maker Serial # 10310--Model # DCC-1100. The problem is with the cruet, while pouring, suddenly the arch of coffee “stream” will surge forward and with out warning the coffee will be flowing onto the counter or in this case onto my daughter’s hand as she held the mug she was filling. The second picture is a couple days later, there is a large blister along the back of her hand.
The bottom of the machine has been rusting. This picture is after I had scraped the larger particles of rust off but this has been a problem for over a year. We moved it onto a glass trivet to stop staining the counter with the rust. We thought we had done our research when we purchased this item but we have been sorely disappointed. We feel like this product should be recalled or at least a warning go out to people about the engineering problem with the spout on the cruet. My Daughter had the quick reflexes to get her hand under cold water and then we soaked it for 20 minute on 20 off in cold water for most of the day and still she blistered. We are considering sending a copy of this letter to Consumer Product Safety Commission. We will wait for your reply.

When I investigated, smoke was coming from underneath, the 2 cups+ left in the pot were starting to boil, but the “on” indicator light was off. I had a Cuisinart DGB-700BC Grind-and-Brew 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker and after a couple years of ownership the unit caught on fire. I was home so I unplugged the unit and put it outside. I called Cuisinart and they asked me to send back the unit (at my expense) and the sent me a new coffee maker of the same model. I had this unit less than 1 year and this morning the second unit caught on fire.. Fortunately I was in the same room and caught it early and put it outside again. This time I took video of the incident. I called Cuisinart and I am awaiting their response. I find it hard to believe that I can have two units and have two fires and there isnt some serious defect. Tells me that other people likely have experienced this.

Contacted Cuisinart and was advised that the product is discontinued, but that there is no recall on the product. A quick[REDACTED]search of “SS-300 Melting” uncovered several other reports of this device melting. The part of the device that melted is a significant distance from the heating element. If it is overheating enough to melt at that distance, it certainly has the potential to start a fire.
