The product, in the report: Stainless Steel Kenmore glass top cookstove
my Kenmore stove was being cleaned and the inside glass in the oven just shattered... I have since looked online and discovered there is a potential for the outside glass to explode as well in a catastrophic manner. I am afraid to let anyone in my kitchen..or go in myself..

The product, in the report: Oven, model 79096014404, S/N: VF54628138, Kenmore
On 24 Feb 13, I turned my oven on 400 degrees to preheat for a pizza. Five minutes later, I heard loud noises coming from the oven. When I walked to the kitchen, I saw spaks and flames in the oven and turned it off. When I opened the oven, I found that the heating element had broke in half and melted metal (white) was located under the element. Model 79096014404, S/N: vf54628138.
This appears to be a common issue, reference http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/kenmore-oven-c14186.html?page=10. I would hate to see someone lose their life, home, or pets due to a known issue that nobody will do anything about. There is no doubt in my mind if I would have walked away for ten minutes this would have resulted in my home going up in flames.

No one hurt Made Feb 23, 2013, sent to the company Mar 4, 2013, published by CPSC Mar 19, 2013
The product, in the report: Your oven nearly burnt my kitchen down. We were in the kitchen, I was doing the dishes and from behind me I heard a loud pop, turned around and saw sparks aimed at my husband’s head. Immediately after there was flames and dark black smoke coming up and out of the control panel. Despite the panel clearing not working, the oven continued to work. Had we not been standing within arm’s reach of the oven, this would have been a serious fire situation. Our four children were asleep and we were nearly done for the night ourselves. We now have NO working stove or oven. Our house reeks of dark sooty foul smelling burnt smoky air. From other posts we have read on-line it seems that this type of electrical malfunction is in fact not rare and this product should have been re-called. This is a MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD. At a minimum we expect to be compensated for our costs to repair or replace our oven and that a response will come IMMEDIATELY.
Our Kenmore oven nearly burnt our kitchen down. We were in the kitchen, I was doing the dishes and from behind me I heard a loud pop, turned around and saw sparks aimed at my husband’s head. Immediately after there were flames and dark black smoke coming up and out of the control panel. Despite the panel clearly no longer not working, the oven continued to work.
Had we not been standing within arm’s reach of the oven, this would have been a serious fire situation. Our four children were asleep and we were nearly done for the night ourselves. My husband was able to isolate the faulty wire and tape it off. It appears that one of the wires got disconnected from the electronic panel board after it got burnt.
What I am most amazed by is that this oven is actually designed to be used when no one is around. It has a timed shut-off. What if we hadn’t been there. What if we had been in another room in the house or outside in the yard and this had happened. The ONLY reason there was not a serious fire is because we happened to be right there when it happened. This is a complete product malfunction and/or factory/design defect and the manufacturer needs to take responsibility.

The product, in the report: This is a stainless steal and black stove top oven, with four ranges and several inside layers of glass. It is the Kenmore MOdel 790.
My family and I had began cooking dinner when we heard the sound of glass breaking. When we opened the door to our Kenmore oven the inside glass had shattered into a thousand pieces. It took us a signifiant amount of time to clean up all the glass. Luckily, our two children were not around when it happened.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite glass top range and oven , stainless steel
On saturday Feb 9th at 830-9 in the morning we were using my Kenmore Elite oven 790 series to bake cookies. Out of the blue the front glass of the oven exploded out shooting glass in a 15 foot radius, my sister was standing right next to the stove and felt excessive heat from the blast but luckily did not get cut. There was a bang and then the glass went everywhere. I purchased the stove in Dec 2011. There were no cracks in the glass or anything I have cleaned everything according to directions. i have called sears the salesmen where we bought it told me that he had heard if moisture gets between the glass that it will explode if it expands, at the sears and kenmore customer service they just said unfortunate and that they would send a technician charging me for the repairs since I do not have a coverage plan. I believe this is a safety issue not a mechanical problem. i looked on line to see that others have had the same thing happen with no help also. Sears today feb 19 offered a $50 gift card i did not accept as I believe that they know they have a problem and need to correct it! The sears owner of the store where I purchased said that he has heard of this happening 4 times in 15000 stoves that he has sold. What if my young child and his cousins had been standing there loking at the cookies as they were 5 min previous to this happening could have been tragic!

Hurt, no treatment Made Feb 17, 2013, sent to the company Feb 28, 2013, published by CPSC Mar 22, 2013
The product, in the report: Kenmore 27 Inch Double Wall Oven
I was baking in my kitchen using my Kenmore 27 inch Double Wall oven, when for no apparent reason, the bottom glass door exploded. I was cut in multiple places on my left leg by the exploding shards of glass. The exploding shards of glass went in all directions -- all over my kitchen.
After the incident, I took pictures of the broken glass door and the cuts on my leg.
I then called the Sears store, where we purchased the oven to see what they are going to do for me as to a replacement for the oven--obviously there is a defect in the oven. They are investigating the matter and will contact me during the week of 2/18/2013.

No one hurt Made Jan 28, 2013, sent to the company Feb 13, 2013, published by CPSC Feb 28, 2013
The product, in the report: Kenmore Range Glass top with oven
On January 26, 2013 I was using my 2 year old Kenmore Range. I was backing a pizza at 425 degrees and was also cooking burgers in a pan on the stove top. About 2 weeks prior to the events that occurred on January 26, 2013 we used the Cleaning option on the stove. When the cleaning process was completed we removed the ashes from the oven that were left after the cleaning process and a few days later the oven would only preheat to 350 degrees. My husband cleaned the oven again and the next time it was used was on January 26. Everything worked great until I went to turn the oven off and when I pressed the off button a spark shot out of the back of the control panel on the oven. Smoke and ashes followed. The stove was unplugged and we removed the back panel exposing the control panel to find melted plastic smoke damage to the control panel. While trying to document the damage to the control panel with photos (the oven was NOT PLUGGED IN) another spark shot out of the control panel while taking photos.

Kenmore Elite Oven 790.77513800 front glass shattered while not in use. Told by Sears representative the glass is suppose to shatter in small pieces without shards. In my case there were shards. See many internet threads where same incident has occurred and Sears says no “manufacturing” recalls have been issued.

The product, in the report: Range with convection oven
The consumer stated that after using the self cleaning cycle on her oven it has expanded. The consumer stated that after the self cleaning cycle she placed the racks back in the oven and they easily collapse. The consumer stated that because the oven expanded the racks do not stay in place.
The consumer stated that there were no visible damages to the interior of the oven. She stated that she feels this should be investigated since it poses a safety hazard to the consumers. The consumer believes that if a consumer was not aware of the situation they could place heavy items in the oven and burn themselves.
The consumer stated that she has contacted the manufacturer and hasn’t been successful in having someone assist her. The consumer stated that she has searched the web and found that many other people have experienced the same incidents with their ovens.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite Stove Model # 79041073100
I have a Kenmore Elite stove model 79041073100 and the lower rack falls down. When cooking a turkey or roast the rack will fall off the tracks as you pull it out of the oven. Sears sent new racks with the same problem. They want to replace the liner bur I do not belive it will help. Neither did their service man. The same model on the show room floor did it as well. This is very dangerous as your hand can get trapped between the rack and the hot oven door when the 20 pound turkey falls. Scary! There are alot of other people with the same problem if you search the web.

The product, in the report: White Kenmore Range
Oven door glass shattered all over kitchen for no reason. Cannot use the oven safely after glass broke due to unbalanced door. Several burns due to door closing on our arms. Repairs are expensive, and not covered under warranty, even though this was a relatively new appliance. Finally decided to repair it to keep from getting burned, agan, but after researching, found that there is a possibility it will just happen again.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite Stove model 790.46709600
We had the fan motor in our Kenmore oven (model 790.46709600) replaced this afternoon. Right after the repair man left, we turned the oven on to preheat to 450F. About 15-20 minutes later, I was heading into the kitchen when I heard a pop and glass went flying every where. I was standing about 6 foot away and got hit with flying glass. It was a forceful explosion, and we found glass about 12 foot away from the stove.
My toddler is almost always in the kitchen with me when I cook. I was very thankful that she was not yet in the room.

The Kenmore Elite Oven 790.36703502 walls warp outwards over time - meaning the the middle shelf will slip off (the top and bottom shelves are fine, only the two middle shelf positions are affected). The net result is that any items placed on the middle shelves will fall spilling hot contents.

The product, in the report: Range
Consumer has a range that is off by one digit from the recall. He is experiencing the same hazard as listed in the recall. He says the pan actually melted and the burner got so hot that it melted the pan. This was five minutes after using it.
The consumer says that the top cracked when he tried to get the pan off. he says that the pan was contracting more than the top was and he thinks thats what caused it to crack by his estimation. He talked to an appliance store and they told him that he would have to purchase a new stove. He was using the right front burner. The metal contracted faster than the glass. CONSUMER ADDED: I finally reached customer service, told me had to go through Sears; Sears said that I would have to talk to Westinghouse. No Results.

On 8/17/12, around 3:00pm, our Kenmore 790.36932901 oven was being used normally. It was set at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes. During this cooking time, when opening the handle on the door, the left side of the handle became detached. It looked as if it had come unscrewed. The oven was turned off after cooking. The next day, around 12:00pm, my husband, in an attempt to reattach the handle, was slowly opening the door, taking care not to pull on or put pressure on the glass. The outside oven door shattered, sending safety glass up onto the counter tops as far as 6 feet away. The oven was not in use at this time.

I have a 2005 Kenmore Elite slide in range. I opened the oven door to take a loaf of garlic bread out and the oven racks collapsed to the bottom of the oven. This is extremely hazerdous - and has high potential for serious burns.
I contacted Sears but could not reach Kenmore directly. When I pursued the issue with Sears Customer Care they did offer to cover the cost of a service visit to diagnose the problem and connected me with the CPSC. The issue is that the oven liner has warped from heat. This is not an isolated incident and identical situations have been reported to the CPSC and on mysears.com.

The product, in the report: This is a slide in range, branded Kenmore Elite, manufactured by Electrolux and sold by sears. After using the self-clean cycle the oven walls bow out-not enough to actually see, but enough to cause the racks to be too small and fall down when weight is placed on them, especially a heavy weight such as a turkey.
I have a Kenmore Elite Slide in Range, model 790.41073101, and after using the self clean cycle, the oven walls bowed out just enough so that the racks no longer fit and they fall down if a weight is put on them, especially a heavy weight such as a Thanksgiving turkey. This is a very dangerous situation and these and other affected models should be recalled. I noticed another report that was similar on this site--see also 20110603-BF642-2147478569.

The product, in the report: Kenmore 911.95582990 oven
My Kenmore model # 911.95582990 oven caught on fire. I had turned the oven on and about 5 minutes later, I heard a loud pop and then a flash of light went through the kitchen. I looked in the oven and it was on fire. I hesitated to use a fire extinguisher because I could see that it was an electrical fire. I called the fire department. They turned off all power to the oven. Eventually, the fire went out. The lower heating element split in half. I have been on the phone for the last two days and have been repeatedly told that this model is not under any recall; however, I have done some internet research and see that I am not alone. This same incident has happened many times in the past. I would love to know how many ovens in my model # have caught on fire. And exactly how many incidents does it take in order for a recall to happen? Lucky for me, no person or property was injured. We’re just without any home-cooked meals for awhile.

The product, in the report: Stove
On 5/6/2012 the consumer had used her stove approximately around 6p.m. that evening. After settling down that night she and her husband heard a loud explosion downstairs. When they went to inspect they saw that the glass door to the stove had shattered.
The manufacturer was contacted 5/7/2012 and they advised her that her model was on a recall. After being transferred a few times they informed her that her model was not recalled and they would send out a technician to inspect the stove and its door.
There were no injuries from the incident.
The technician came out 5/8/2012 and informed her that they would offer a $60 gift card towards a new door or she could just replace the stove entirely at her expense.
The consumer feels that the product is a safety hazard because it exploded without any warning and may have caused bodily harm to any of her family members.

The product, in the report: Slide In Six Burner Range Oven Stainless Steele, 30 Inch
On 04/26/2012 the outside glass on my Kenmore Range Oven door just exploded. Tiny pieces of glass were shot everywhere. Thankfully no one was near the oven and it had NOT been used that day. First, I spoke with [REDACTED] from the Repairs Dept. who told me this can happen but “unfortunately there is no recall” because “some people” didn’t have the problem. He said because the oven is a few months over warranty the only thing I can do is buy another warranty agreement for $240 to get it fixed. I then googled “Kenmore oven door shattered” and was shocked at the pages of posts that come up with complaints of people who had the same problem Some had pictures of the damage which looked exactly like ours . There was even a news station in Rhode Island that broadcasted a story titled “Kenmore keeps News 4 viewers in the dark on exploding oven doors”. I printed out these articles and brought the stack into my local Sears, where I purchased the oven, to show the manager. I tried to explain to him this needs to be replaced and fixed because I can’t take the chance of this happening again, this time injuring my three year old daughter who likes watching her cookies bake. The manager, [REDACTED], told me he had no power to do anything and just put me on the phone with [REDACTED], an employee with the National Customer Relations Dept. She listened to my concerns then just kept reading the warranty agreement over and over. [REDACTED] said she would fill out a product safety form and told me there is no one else I can call. This is a serious defect that can disfigure or seriously injure someone if not fixed and Sears just won’t address it.

The product, in the report: Kenmore oven/range combo unit. Model number: 790.97459801
My name is [REDACTED]. I would like to report a defect in my Kenmore range. Today, 4/22/12 our oven door exploded after my wife cooked chicken. The stove had been set to 375 degrees. It had been turned off about 10-15 minutes. The door was closed and the glass just exploded. Nothing had been or has ever been dropped on the glass. The outer glass was completely distroyed. The inner glass is intact. The model number of the Kenmore oven/range is: 790.97459801. I am going to contact Sears tomorrow on Monday.
Please let me know if there have been any product recalls for this oven. Also, how do you recommend that I resolve this problem immediately?
[REDACTED]
Thank you for helping me resolve this problem.
Sincerely,
[REDACTED]

I was baking cookies. The third batch came out overbaked. The fourth batch burned. I discovered that the broiler was on continually and I could not turn it off. I ended up having to turn off the circuit breaker to turn off the stove.
Fortunately I was home, that I did not use the timer that turned the oven on automatically.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Range Ceramic Top/Self Cleaning, Stainless
2005 Kenmore Model 790.96113409 Range. After turning on the oven to 450degrees to cook a pizza, the oven beeped when the temperature reached 450. I put the oven in and 2-3 minutes later the oven beeped again. I noticed an F code displayed. I opened the oven to find the pizza burnt. The top burner was on as if I turned on the broiler. The bottom burner was not on. I turned the oven off and removed the pizza. I waited for the oven to cool down and turned it on again. The same thing happened. A year or so ago, the left front burner would not turn off. My husband had to unplug the unit and plugged it back in. The burner would not turn off. He assessed the wiring and made sure the burner would turn off. At this point, we don’t use that burner. I found this web site and saw that 2 other owners have the same experience with their range. Does Kenmore have a recall on this? Seems very dangerous.

My Kenmore Elite Range, outside oven door glass exploded. We had just taken dinner out of the oven, and while the oven door was open the Glass exploded. it was the tinted glass on the outside. I have read blogs and this seems to happen when a product is purchased from Sears. It may be some type of defect with Kenmore Elite Range oven. The stove was purchase in 2008 new, less then 4yr. all this seem to be inline with all the Blogs i have read about Sear Kenmore Elite products. All Sears wanted to do was sell a extended warrenty..Poor Customer Service they did not try to resolve the problem. Just as a note, I will never purchase anything from Sears or a Kenmore product again.

Preheated oven to 400. Oven beeped 5 min. later indicating reached temp. Put in food. Opened door after one minute when I smelled a mechanical burning odor. Saw broiler coil bright, red. Looked at oven displays which read 400 Bake ON. “On” is only active when you haven’t reached the temp. I reduced temp to 300. Still on, with broiler coils BRIGHT RED. Turned off. Broiler coils would not turn off. Unplugged. Took a while (5-10 minutes) for coils to not be bright red. still something showing bright red inbetween door and stove top area (inside part when looking at oven face-on). Melting smell. Moved stove to outdoors (25 degree weather). Cooled down after 30 minutes.

The product, in the report: Kitchen Appliance - Kenmore Oven and Range
I own a Kenmore Oven/Range, purchased from Sears, and have experienced several (at least a dozen) instances of the front left large burner not shutting off after the control switch has been turned to “OFF.” Usually, I have been able to turn the switch back to “ON” and then “OFF” again and the burner shuts off. However, today, the burner would not shut off regardless of how I turned the switches. After approximately 20 minutes, the burner finally shut itself off and the stove top has now cooled completely. I called Sears to inquire as to whether or not my range was included in the recall from 2009, was told that it is not and would have to pay for a service technician to come out, even though I am experiencing the exact same problems that the 2009 recall indicated.
The Model # is: 790.9612340A Serial #: VF72531130
My concern is that this poses a very serious fire risk. From a cursory search online, I have found several instances of other consumers complaining of the same problem on their ranges with the same model number as mine.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Radiant Cooktop
Radiant burner went to high heat while on simmer, and turning the dial to off did not turn off the burner. While cooking chili, I turned the burner down to simmer since the chili required about 45 minutes of slow cooking, and I went upstairs. After about 20 minutes I came back to the kitchen, and the burner was on high. The water had almost completely boiled off by then. I confirmed the burner setting was on simmer (and the coils were still full on maximum as seen by the bright red color under the radiant top) and I then turned the burner off, making sure I felt the off indent of the dial. The burner remained on. I fiddled with the burner and got it to turn off. I have instructed my wife not to use that burner until the issue is resolved. The cooktop is 16 years old, and parts readily available, but this event is disturbing. After researching on the web, and checking with Kenmore, I could find no existing recall.

The product, in the report: Freestanding Oven/smooth top stove. Kenmore Elite Model 790-95301102
I was baking a cake and turned off the oven for the last 5 minutes of baking to prepare the area to place hot pan. My son indicated that the oven was smoking. I turned around and oven was not off, in fact the coils inside the oven were getting redder. I tried to turn the oven on and the temp indicated 500 degrees, I turned it off again and it would NOT TURN OFF. I played with a few more buttons and still could not get the oven to turn off. When the counter top began to get hot, I ran and turned off the breaker. Later that day, I turned the breaker back on to use the dryer, and the oven turned itself back on and immediately got hot. Meanwhile, my dryer would not work. So, I turned off breaker long enough to unplug oven. I have only had this oven for approximately 6 years. It is a Kenmore Model #790-95301102 having serial # VF23224239 purchased from Sears in Chiefland, FL.
I would be ok with the fact that I might need a new oven, however the fire hazard scares me because of the type of home I live in. If the oven just did not turn on, it would not be an issue, however with the fact that it will NOT TURN OFF, that should be reviewed.

The product, in the report: Sears Kenmore oven model #665.92002102
Used my Sears Kenmore oven (model 665.95002102) yesterday for baking cookies. After about 2 hours of continous baking, I noticed a burning smell coming from the oven. I opened the door and smoke and a wave of extreme heat came rolling out. I noticed the broiler element was on, yet the oven had been on Bake all day (bottom element only). I immediately turned the oven off and kept checking to make sure nothing inside was burning. I then noticed that although the oven was off, the broiler continued to be on and I could not get it to turn off. We had to flip the breaker in order to get the broiler element to turn off. This could have caused a very bad fire due to the high heat. From searching the internet, it appears that this is a common problem with Sears Kenmore ovens.

Product: Kenmore Wall Oven, Model # 7904783940.
Outer glass assembly to oven door shattered spontaneously, projecting glass pieces with force more than 6 feet away onto elevated surfaces. The oven was on at relatively high heat (475 degrees F) at the time.
This was the first time using the oven after the self cleaning cycle (4 hours at high heat) had been used.
Glass pieces were appropriately small and were not shards but were projected what seems like unsafe long distances...a countertop more that 6 feet away at a height higher than the oven door was littered with glass pieces.
Curious to know if the high heat of the self-cleaning oven cycle was beyond the design limitations of the glass.

Oven was on without being turned on.
My wife walked into the house after work and noticed that the back burner was hot when she went to pick something up from the counter. She noticed that the burner was in the off position and she turned it on and back off. After about 10 minutes she walked back in the kitchen and heard a click from the range. When she looked at the range she noticed the left rear burner turned red and then black again. The knob was in the off position. I did a search and noticed that others with this stove has had the same problem. All of them stating that the burner turned on with the knob being in the off position. I called sears who told me that this was not part of the recall. I gave them the same info provided here and they did not ask for anymore information.

That evening I looked online only to find many exploding oven doors and yet nothing ever seems to come of it. I was making muffins tonight in my Kenmore oven Model # 665-95781000. The oven was set to 350degrees. The first batch of 12 came out perfect. The second batch came out darker and when I pulled them out they were a little smokey. I figured I would bake the last batch of only 10 minutes instead of 12 like the others. About 5 minutes later, I smelled this awful smell. I walked into the kitchen and saw a fire on the muffins. My first reaction was to turn the oven off, then I opened the oven door and put the fire out on the muffin. I noticed how hot the oven felt. I started a fan to get the smoke out of the house and my kids were all scared. My husband came in and noticed that the top heating element was still glowing orange and that it wasnt shutting off. The only way we could turn the oven off was to turn off the breaker. This was a very scary event.

The product, in the report: Kenmore stove--oven problems
Our Kenmore oven (9268) had a loud mini-explosive pop and there was a burning smell. Then the oven stopped working but the cooktop was OK. We purchased it around 2004. I’m sure you hear this all the time but our previous stove had lasted for over 20 years. The repairman showed us the burn marks around the part that went, and asked if we wanted to replace the stove with a new one. He said the repair would cost over $300 which was over half of the cost of the stove. We were wondering if this is the normal way a stove should act or if this is a hazard. Have you had other reports of this? Thanks for your consideration.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Range model no. 911.46556590 serial number 58271471 R self cleaning oven with digital controls, with 4 burner range top with manual knobs.
My Kenmore Range Model 911.46556590 serial number 58271471 R caught on fire and wouldn’t quit heating up. First, I saw a bright explosion in my oven. The bottom bake element had seemed to catch on fire. It wasn’t a flame, however, it was a white light like magnesium burning. I turned the oven off, but the burning continued around the element like a sparkler. I turned the circuit breaker off but the burning still continued. I poured water on it (aprox. 2 cups) and it finally went out. I turned the breaker back on to continue cooking on the range - top. I noticed the surface and area getting very hot. the top element in the oven was red hot, I’d say over 600 degrees. The oven was not turned on! If I hadn’t been in the kitchen, it would have set my house on fire. I don’t see any product recalls. I am scared of this product and don’t even know if I should try to have it fixed. It doesn’t seem to have a safety cutoff when things go wrong.

The product, in the report: kenmore elite smooth glasstop stove
I have a Kenmore Elite smooth top stove model 790.99122405 and serial vf52641818. When I turned on the broiler the whole top control panel with the digital readout and touchpad lit up and went crazy shorting out from side to side in rapid fire succession, making loud frying noise and electrical noises. I was able to press the stop button and stop it but when I did it made a loud exploding noise followed by a plume of smoke coming out of the back.

The product, in the report: Kenmore selfcleaning model number 790.95202
I was trying to cook chicken in my Kenmore self cleaning oven (Model Number 790.95202) I left the kitchen for not even 5 minutes, I returned and the outside of my chicken was BURNT. I opened the oven and smoke began to roll out, I tried hitting the clear button but the oven would not turn off. So we turned off the breaker.. it sat there for a week or so, we turned it back on to see if it would work.. the oven came on by itself, no buttons pushed or anything. As a mother this scares me very much. This oven is a fire hazard, without a doubt. I called Sears, and they basically wouldn’t tell me much of anything. This has upset me very much... I believe the product should be recalled, as I was looking online and this has happened to SEVERAL other people (these numbers very high) Thank you,

The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite Double Oven
On Saturday, June 11, 2011, at 5:30 AM my wife entered our kitchen to find all of the control panel lights illuminated and flashing on our Kenmore Elite double oven. The oven had been turned off the previous evening and had not been turned on. As she attempted to turn the oven off to stop the flashing light, there were two popping sounds, followed by smoke and a strong electrical fire odor. The oven would not turn off. She call the Sears emergency number, but the technician who answered was unable to provide instruction that would successfully turn the oven off. My wife then called the Albuquerque Fire Department. The firemen were able to turn electricity off at the circuit breaker and disabled the oven. A Sears repairman came to our home that afternoon and examined the oven we had purchased in March 2009. The main control board, wiring harnesses, and convection fans were charred rendering the oven a total loss.
If my wife had not gone downstairs into the kitchen early that morning, it is very likely that we would have suffered a major fire caused by an appliance that was turned off. Kenmore Elite Oven Model: 79048123800 Serial # NF90924254

[REDACTED]
Our stove model number 790.96614401 had black smoke come from the back of the unit while a burner on the stove was being used and now the oven will not heat. The clock timer p/n 316418702 has been determined to be the problem. Reading on the Complaints Board http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/sears-kenmore-oven-c146862.html there seems to be a possible serious fire hazard with the clock timer board shorting out or burners turning on by themselves. Sears Parts Direct was not aware of any problems with this part. I am contacting the Consumer Product Safety Commission to report another problem with the part in this stove. Please contact me ASAP with actions being taken by Sears to address this issue. The oven was purchased November 2004 for 900.00. A 210.00 electronic control part should not fail in that short a time period and I am hesitant to install a new part that could fail again with a fire being caused as a result of the part failure.

The product, in the report: white stove with black flat top
I bought a kenmore stove serial #vf40376266 flat top stove and I really like it but for the last 2-3 years i have had a problem with the stove there is a metal lip between where the flat top ends and where the stove door opens up this gets extreamly hot the service guy said between 100 and 150 degrees and that was very normal. the problem my daughter and I have both got burned on this metal bar bad enough it has blistered and had a nasty red place for about a week. It happens if your shirt comes up on your stomach or if you are waring something light. I really worry about it when we have people over I am worried someone is going to get burned very bad and we are going to get sued for something that is not our fault at all. We bought the kenmore in feb 05. I have contacted sears and the mail sears headquarters and have just got the run around I thought the customer service guy was really helpful when it just explained that it is just old and needs to be replaced there was nothing they could do. I really would like some help in this matter. [REDACTED]
