The product, in the report: Kenmore Oven/Range
The front glass of my oven shattered with no reason. I had started up the oven with the temperature preheat. It was not up to temperature and was about 120. I have never hit scratched marked or dented or any object ever touched the glass, except to wipe it clean with a cloth. This came as a shock to me when I gently shut my oven door. Thank you.

The product, in the report: Oven
Caller stated that the oven was turned on to 300 degrees and then the broiler turned on by itself without their knowledge which emitted smoke in the room. He tried to power off the oven using the control panel, but the broiler stayed on. He had to use the circuit breaker to power it off.
The manufacturer was contacted and they advised that the oven needs a control panel replacement. He stated that he feels that the same problem will occur with a replacement. Caller feels that this oven poses a fire hazard and should be reported.

The product, in the report: Kenmore free standing range with warming drawer. This range came with the house purchase.
My 8 month old granddaughter received 2nd degree burns to her hand when she pulled open the bottom drawer on a free standing oven and reached inside. This model oven has a separate control knob for the warming drawer, and it was off, but the oven was on. This burn was so severe that it required a skin graft surgery to repair. The address listed for this report is my son and daughter-in-laws house where the injury occurred.

The product, in the report: Oven Range
The consumer indicates that her oven range’s main burner knob sticks out and will turn on the turbo-boil with the slightest touch, many times unbeknownst to the consumer. This issue has happened at least a dozen times already, and on multiple occasions containers and plates have melted. The consumer has now removed the knob in order to avoid future incidents. The consumer states the cooktop is used approximately once or twice daily whereas the oven is used roughly two to three times per month. The consumer plans on keeping her oven range for at least the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

The product, in the report: Smoothtop range with oven
8/6/2024: The consumer used the range, but afterwards, the left front burner would not turn off.
The consumer turned the burner’s control knob off, but it remained on. Her husband turned the control knob off, 4 or 5 times, before getting it to turn off.
They also tripped the breaker to ensure it could not be turned on.
The problem is similar to what’s stated in CPSC Recall# 24-235.

Hurt, care not known Made Jun 23, 2023, sent to the company Jun 27, 2023, published by CPSC Jul 12, 2023
The product, in the report: Stainless steel, glass top oven with glass and stainless steel front door.
We have a Kenmore oven, model # 790.9611340F. Last night 6/22/2023, while not even using the oven, the front door glass exploded sending tiny pieces of glass all over the kitchen floor. I was simply standing in front of the stove, closing a pizza box that was sitting on top of the oven, and I just touched the oven handle. I didn’t have shoes on and some of the pieces cut the top of my foot. After an hour of cleanup I HOPE I got all the glass up. Thankfully I’m the one that it happened to and not one of my 2 small kids, or my wife. I’m reporting this because I called Sears, who owns Kenmore and after about 30 minutes of trying to figure out what department to connect with, and finally connecting with someone (who was clearly just in a call center in a different country) they said because the unit is over 10 years old I will have to buy the new part. I asked if there is a claim that I could file, since hundreds of other people have had this same exact problem with this same model oven. She said no, and because it is over 10 years old there was nothing that they could do. I’m frustrated, because there was no foul play that caused this, it was completely out of the blue, the oven was not in use, and it could have injured one of my children.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite Induction Range Model Number: 790.95073316 Serial Number: VF84512058 stainless steel
I have a Kenmore Elite range that is about 4 years old. Two of the burners aren’t functioning correctly. One of which comes on randomly by it’s self. Which to me is a fire safety. If I’m not home to catch it, it could start a fire and then our house could burn down. I’ve contacted Sears and they won’t do anything since it’s not still under warranty. I’ve had this fixed once while it was still under warranty. It’ll cost me $600-$700 to fix this. To correct this I then have to mess with the knob to get it to shut off which can take a couple minutes. And you just don’t know when it’ll start again. Like I mentioned this is a HUGE FIRE SAFETY to me and my family.

The product, in the report: Oven Range Kenmore
The consumer indicates that she preheated her oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and ten minutes later a heard a popping and crackling sound coming from the kitchen. When the consumer checked, there were flames coming from out of digital display where all the numbers are shown and her kitchen was filling up with black smoke. The consumer immediately called the Fire Department and they advised her to get out of her house and wait for them.
By the time the Fire Department arrived, approximately five to ten minutes after they were called, the fire had extinguished itself. Once they finished their inspection, they informed the consumer that the fire was strictly due to her oven range and not her electrical system.
The consumer contacted the retailer and the representative she spoke to informed her that they could not assist her as the unit was no longer under warranty. The consumer tried to explain that she was just trying to report the fire but they did not take a complaint.
The consumer states that, prior to the incident, the cooktop was used three to four times per week whereas the oven once weekly.
The consumer is unsure if she will keep her unit for at least the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

The product, in the report: Oven Range
The consumer indicates that whenever she turns her oven range on, the elements stay on even after the unit has been turned off. In order for the oven range to shut off, it must be unplugged however on two occasions after plugging back the unit it has turned on spontaneously some time later.
04/26/2021 - The consumer contacted the Manufacturer and explained the situation; the representative she spoke to scheduled for a Service Technician to inspect the unit the following day paid for by the consumer.
04/27/2021 – Upon inspection, the Service Technician indicated that the circuitry on the control panel needed to be replaced so he placed an order and informed the consumer a representative would install it on May 06, 2021.
Part rec’d 5/11/21; install rescheduled 5/20/21
The consumer states that the oven is used at least once weekly whereas the cooktop about two times per day. The consumer plans on keeping her oven range for at least the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite oven and microwave model number 790.48903001. Stainless steal.
My oven rack collapses when I put anything heavier than a cookie sheet. It happened last thanksgiving and now happens all the time. It collapses on one side and the roaster or skillet spills or slides to one side of the oven. I have scalded my hand when the turkeys roasting pan fell, splashing hot grease on my hand. It happened tonight and several other times.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Range, stainless steel
My Kenmore 790 range door glass exploded while 45 minutes into the self clean mode. After researching, we learned this is a common issue with stoves. We have called the information of their website number it’s times and are refusing to cover the cost of a replacement, although their website states it it. The oven was purchased from Sears in October 2018 and we are the sole owners of it. We are so thankful nobody was standing next to the stove when it exploded because glass was sprayed throughout the kitchen and was extremely dangerous. We are still finding glass pieces days later and have cuts on our feet.

The left front burner on my Kenmore stove would not turn off and got hotter. I was too afraid to pull out stove to unplug. I flipped the interior stove light off and on and the burner shut off. I thought I could use the left back burner a couple days later, but I heard a strange sound like there was an electrical problem. I can still use the oven and the right burners, but am afraid. I tried to contact Lowes where I bought it but just was on hold and then the phone would go to the menu options again. I don’t know what to do.

The product, in the report: This is a Kenmore oven Model number 790.41013800, serial number NF 90828031. It has a black glass cook top, 4 burners, digital face plate. Silver with glass door on oven and warmer tray on bottom. Model 790.41013800
The oven racks in my oven routinely fall off the ledge when being used. I have had hot casseroles in the oven and the racks just spontaneously fall off ledge to bottom of oven. I have had a couple of casserole dishes break and extremely hot food has splattered all over oven. In addition there has been multiple times when sliding rack out of oven to check what is cooking the rack has fallen to bottom of oven. This has caused hot food/food juices to splattered outside of oven onto my arms, causing minor burns and onto my clothes. When looking at the oven racks, they sit very preciously and in no way fit safely on the oven ledge. This is an extremely dangerous situation and a major burn could occur when these racks fall as I am removing food from the oven.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Range Model Number 790.92183011 Induction with glass stove top and oven
Our Kenmore Range outer Oven Glass exploded. The oven was on (heating up at 200). My child was standing 3 feet away and the outer glass just exploded! Model:790.92183011 I found glass up to 5 feet from the range!!!!
This is the 2nd time this happened. Range was purchased in Jan 2011. In May of 2013 the glass just exploded. After many long arguments with sears repair they fixed it under warranty. Everyone insisted we ‘broke’ the glass. However, it just exploded. It wasn’t even being used at the time. In 2013, I didn’t find any other reports and was having a very hard time getting people to understand it just exploded.
This is a very dangerous situation and must be taken extremely seriously. They explode without warning. My children and dogs were in the kitchen. I found glass up to 5 feet from the range!!!! Broken Glass gets lodged in the door and is not easy to remove. It is a very dangerous situation to clean up and I was cut many times. You can’t leave the glass in the door for safety reasons.
I saw that Sears is responding to reports asking consumers to call 1-800-479-6351 to report incidents. When I called, they just wanted to sell me their repair services.

The consumer indicates that he had his oven on at 325 degrees Fahrenheit with a roast cooking for approximately two hours. When the consumer was ready to remove the roast, he pulled the rack it sat on outward and immediately one side of the rack fell from the metal shelf it lays on as it appears the rack is not wide enough to reach both sides of the oven. The food content spilled inside and outside the oven. The rack is not wide enough to reach both sides of the oven.
The consumer contacted the retailer and explained the situation. The representative he spoke with informed him that they would not be able to assist him free of charge as they do not have his unit listed under any recalls, nor do they have any complaints against the model of his oven range.
Prior to the incident, the consumer states that the cooktop was used at least twice daily whereas the oven was used two to three times per year.

Kenmore flat top stove heats to very high temperature although the knob is turned to a low temperature. Burner does not always cut off when the knob is turned into the off position. The product, in the report: Double Wall Oven
Sears Kenmore double oven Model # 790.47773406, Ser. # NF84323983 manufactured October 2008. In both ovens the racks fall down without notice. Items being baked fall to the bottom of the oven and spill creating a fire and scald danger. Kenmore’s response was to schedule an appointment with a technician whose response was to replace both oven liners at a cost of over $500 EACH. Instead, I purchased new replacement racks from Sears and they also fell down and were returned. We are no longer able to safely use these ovens . Also, the top oven door does not properly close/seal during baking. It springs back open slightly and allows heat to escape from the top of the door. This unit is used only by a senior citizen and has not been abused.

I have a Kenmore Elite range that I bought in 2007. Model #790.4670. The racks will not stay in the runner and fall. This could cause a very dangerous situation. It seems that the oven walls have bowed out of place. I can only cook on the bottom shelf

My husband was standing next to the stove, putting something in the lower cabinet to the right of it away. He stood up and the oven exploded next to him. The oven was cold. The oven was not touched. We heard a small explosion, then he found himself in the middle of a spray of glass that went at least 6 feet away. The glass continued to hiss and sizzle. While I am grateful he was not hurt, It makes me sick knowing this happened only hours after our grandchildren went home from visiting.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite glass top slide in range. Oven sides are warped and the grates fall with heaver items suck as a turkey or roast.
We purchased a Kenmore Elite glass top slide in range in 2012 for our new home. The oven was not used for several years and when we used it for a family gathering a few months ago the grates fell spilling the contents into the bottom of the oven. I have searched the internet for this issue and found numerous complaints about the same issue. Most of the issues seem to be caused by the self cleaning feature that causes the side of the oven liner to warp. I have called Sears to have someone come to look at the problem, since I feel it is a factory defect, I shouldn’t be charged for them to look at it. I feel there should have been a recall for this problem.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite smooth top stove model number 790.9013100 serial number VF22534082
We purchased a Ken more Elite Smooth top Stove from Sears in 2002, there was a recall in 2009, Sears sent a repair service man to replace the part that was subject to be labeled as a fire hazard. I realize that we purchased this stove some time ago, but I also realize that we were under the impression that the fire hazard issue had been resolved by the technician. Saturday December 23, 2017, went we awoke we discovered that our stove had spontenously turned the eye on and it had been on for some time causes, an extreme amount of heat, our kitchen cabinets were so hot if we had not found it when we did, the house would have caught fire. Now, my thinking is that since the tech came an repaired the stove and we were under the impression that it was no longer a threat of harm to our family, the stove should be recalled and replaced or compensation for the trauma of realizing you and your family could have lost everything including their lives. My positive thought was we were home and could unplug the stove and remove the threat. Please address this problem. Thank you

The product, in the report: Kitchen range with two ovens
I have a Kenmore model # 790 980 23800 manufactured by Frigidaire.
I was cooking a turkey in the bottom oven when the rack collapsed. I tried changing to the other rack and the same thing happened. I had to move the turkey to my smoker grill to continue to cook it.
The racks are continuing to happen every time I put the oven on. I have gotten burned on several occasions. Otherwise, the stove works well. This is a safety issue... I have called the company to see if they have a rack expander kit to no avail.
Please help

I have owned my Kenmore stove/oven for about 8 years. I used the oven in the morning with no problem. About 3 hours later, after it had completely cooled down I heard a loud crash from the kitchen. The front glass of the oven door had exploded all over the kitchen. It reached as far as the hallway and the living room. Good thing I was not in the kitchen when it happened. I saw online that Kenmore refuses to initiate a recall and they say that damage to the oven door by the consumer is the cause. Well, I want to inform your organization that is NOT the truth. This oven has been well cared for and has never been, slammed, bumped, scratched or forced closed. In order to have Sears replace the glass to the door they want $300-$350 dollars for the part and installation. The glass door panel costs $75.00 when purchasing directly from Sears online. There is no reason for Sears/Kenmore to initiate a recall when they are able to recoup half the cost of the range by just replacing the glass door panel.

I purchased a Kenmore stove, model 790.97453804, from the West Plains Sears Hometown Store on 1/14/2012. Sometime in 2014 we replaced the front glass in the oven door because it exploded. This is the 4th time we have had to replace the front glass in the oven door. This has ended up costing us a fortune!! Not to mention the danger it poses to anyone standing near the stove.

The middle burner in the back is called warm zone. The oven has bake, broil, convection bake, convection convert, convection roast, slow cook.
In November 2014 I bought a Kenmore glassstop range. I noticed how fast it cooked and initially thought it was because a newer model. I had to continually turn down the heat and watched how fast it was cooking. Things often burned. The oven had the same problem. I finally looked on line and saw manny entries from people having the same problems as far back as 2009. Even my next door neighbor has the same problem. It appears the problem is with the infinite switches. Some Kenmore ranges had recalls to correct the problem. The last recall date I see is in 2009. All these years later and the problem continues. How can these ranges continue to be manufactured without the problem being fixed.
There is no recall on my range and Sears will not repair unless I pay. My model number is 790.94203310
For the incident report, I listed the date purchased. It has been an ongoing problem.

There was so much heat that the pots I had on stove top heated up and were hot to touch.
Turn Broiler on and the heat escapes the oven and burns you if you touch the handle and melted my display screen and if you have pots on the stove it heats the pots up to a burning touch without burners on. Cannot turn the broiler off fast enough due to the fact it is melting the display screen.

The product, in the report: Kenmore 790 oven
Our Kenmore 790 oven outer glass exploded tonight while we were cooking our dinner. We are diligent in following all of the use guidelines of the manufacturer. An internet search for “Kenmore oven glass” produces far too many accounts of other consumers with the same model and same failure mode. As a Quality Engineer for the largest automotive manufacturer in the world, and someone who is consulted for legal and safety advice, I’m bothered by the lack of concern from Kenmore for this well-documented defect. My wife was close to the oven glass when it exploded. As my wife said, “Good thing I was wearing long pants”. Internet accounts of other Kenmore 790 oven outer glass exploding and injury owners’ with hot shards of glass are quite disturbing. Before my internet search this evening and the link provided by a Florida news station, I wasn’t aware of the existence of the CPSC. Your purpose is to protect American consumers from harmful product defects like this one, correct?

After unplugging the unit and pulling the unit out we noticed that the electronic board at the top of the unit had caught fire. Behind our unit we had tile and above we had the microwave so nothing else caught fire otherwise there would have been extensive damage. The units had burned out the last prong on the unit was charred from the fire it looked like the thermal switch was the culprit in this instance also.

In November, 2016, the door to my Kenmore oven door spontaneously exploded 45 minutes after I had turned the oven off. I had been baking chicken for 45 mins at 350 degrees. The oven has a double glass door. It is the exterior glass door, not the interior, which exploded.
I’m told the interior door can be damaged by consumers who use the door to push racks into the oven. I don’t do that. In any case, it’s the EXTERIOR door that exploded, not the interior.

My mom had a Sears service contract on all of her appliances through Sears for decades until she passed away last year. The Kenmore oven was purchased at the local Sears Hometown store in Weatherford Texas in 2011.
I let that coverage lapse after her death but then I purchased a Sears home warranty a year ago that covered the appliances. My Sears Home warranty refused to cover the oven, saying it’s a “structural” issue, not a mechanical problem. After sending me from one department to the next over the past months, Sears suggested I contract the manufacturer--but they can’t tell me who the manufacturer is. I’ve called Electrolux and Frigidaire and their customer service representatives deny that they’re the manufacturers.
If you do a Google search of “exploding oven door,” you will discover link after link of consumers who have had reported the same issue. For example:
http://6abc.com/home/consumer-alert-ovens-exploding-in-homes-across-country-/1060683/
https://consumerist.com/2016/02/04/why-are-so-many-people-reporting-kenmore-oven-door-explosions/
https://www.google.com/amp/chicago.cbslocal.com/2015/07/08/2-investigators-glass-oven-doors-shattering-without-warning/amp/?client=safari
http://www.winknews.com/2016/10/24/exploding-oven-doors-menace-consumers-in-swfl-elsewhere/
In every case, Sears has denied liability and blames consumers for mistreatment or damage to the oven door that resulted in the door combusting on its own.
This is oven presents a safety hazard as well. There are sharp black shards of glass as well as the safety glass that were projected into the area of the room where I had been standing 20 seconds earlier.
I have numerous photos documenting the oven post-explosion. (They look exactly like the ones you’ll find on a Google search.) I’ve tried uploading them to your site numerous times but it won’t let me.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Classic Range Model #79032603311 Serial #AF43003397
I write to report an unsafe product and lack of internal controls for monitoring such hazardous products by the product’ s manufacturer, retailer, and builder-installer. On November 20, 2016, I turned on the oven unit of a new Kenmore Range Model #79032603311 (Serial #AF43003397) in order to bake cookies for Thanksgiving when I smelled gas emanating from the stovetop burners. The oven was installed in a home constructed in 2014 for a home we purchased in October, 2016, so the unit was certainly less than two years old, and perhaps less than a year depending on state of sale and installation by the builder. We immediately turned the oven unit off and called our local utility, Ameren, to investigate a possible gas leak.
After conducting an investigation of our home (including turning gas off at line valve), the Ameren technician determined that the oven was “releasing gas after ignition” at approximately “I 0,000 ppm at boiler tube when oven is on.” (Ameren Notice of Code Violation of Hazardous Condition #[REDACTED], original on file with consumer). We then contacted Sears Home Services, and provided the model and serial number to them. They dispatched a Sears service technician to examine the range unit on November 22, 2016.
The Sears service technician confirmed that the defect was with the product and recommended that Sears replace the unit because it was emitting gas (he confirmed that his gas sensor would have been generally more sensitive than that used by the Ameren technician) (Technician ID [REDACTED], Service Order# [REDACTED], original on file with consumer). The technician spoke with his superior and recommended replacement of the unit because he could not identify the precise source of the leak.
He directed me to call 1-888-536-6673. I did so for two reasons: first, to alert Sears that a potentially dangerous product was on the market; second, to have Sears replace a product with a known defect. Over the course of the next two days, despite describing the hazardous condition of the range unit, I was directed to various Sears departments both in the U.S. and with overseas call centers variously described as “Consumer Solutions”, “Retail Customer Care”, “Warranties”, “Sears Home Services” and others. Each telephone agent expressed no interest in the fact that there was a product defect and instead seemed most interested in identifying an alternative number that I would have to call so that, it seemed, that specific person would not have to deal with either our consumer complaint or the fact that a dangerous Kenmore product was on the market and may potentially pose danger to life and property in other homes.
After two days, my wife and I detern1ined that Sears lacked I) the internal controls necessary to effectively deal with a report of a hazardous product (the hazard having been identified with documentary evidence by a utility technician and a Sears-designated specialist) and 2) the interest in addressing, in any way, a consumer in possession of such a unit that was effectively new. We replaced the range at considerable expense but felt it was necessary to address a considerable risk to our lives, property, and children.
Sears’ lack of internal controls is confirmed by the events that followed our attempts to notify it of the hazardous range. On December 9, 2016 and December 30, 2016, we received individualized sales letters stating “Thank you for choosing Sears to repair your Range. Now that it’s fixed, we wanted you to know that we can also help protect it against future breakdowns” and encouraging us to pay between $68.43 and $77.16 for a “Master Protection Agreement.” So, even though the Sears product technician confirmed the leak with the range during his visit on November 22, 21 06 and recommended that the unit be “returned to store of purchase” and replaced by Sears, it was processed through Sears internal systems as a fixed range. We encourage the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to investigate Kenmore Classic Range Model Number 79032603311 , ensure that other defective units do not pose threats to life or property in other homes, and to hold Sears accountable for its lack of product safety internal controls.

The rack in this oven range is no longer supported by the side walls of the oven itself. Any small amount of wait on the oven rack will make the oven rack fall down on one side or the other. This has led to a significant burn on my wife’s hand. An internet search for this model number range and this specific issue has yielding specific results totaling over 110. I am shocked this range has not been recalled yet. When I called Sears I was directed to call Kenmore customer service. The Kenmore customer service number led me back to Sears. It appears that Sears customer service representatives are aware of this issue and have been instructed to tell the consumer to “call the manufacturer.” I called Sears 3 times and explained the issue to 3 separate representatives and each time I was told “call the manufacturer.” Range model # is 790.98023802.

The product, in the report: Kenmore ceramic cook top, Model 790.45409410
I purchased a Kenmore ceramic cooktop (Model 790.45409410) from Sears in October 2015. At the end of October 2016 (about 2 days after the warranty expired) the large left burner turned on spontaneously, which I only discovered because of the smell of burning plastic and metal. After getting no response from the controls, I switched off the breaker. When I reset the breaker, the burner turned on again. A repairman inspected the unit and ordered a new control board, but when he disassembled the unit, some of the metal contacts and plastic plug sheaths were melted, so we elected not to replace the board by jury-rigging the plugs and contacts. Although there’s supposed to be a high-temperature safety cutoff at the supply side of the control board, clearly it did not work properly since the board was hot enough to melt metal.
Just lucky we were home when this happened, or there could have been a major fire, and several pet dogs and birds could have been killed by the fumes, if not by fire.

The product, in the report: Kenmore range Model #79045599901 The oven door was the area of the explosion.
While baking pizza in our Kenmore oven (model# 79045599901) the glass on the oven door exploded. We had opened the oven door and the handle came off so we tried to open the oven to get the food out and the glass exploded sending hot glass throughout the kitchen and dining room. We were grateful no one was injured. I called Sears where we purchased the range 6 years ago and inquired about repair and recall information. I was told the representative would submit an inquiry about a recall. After researching the model number and exploding glass oven door, many incidents of exploding oven doors were listed online. How has Kenmore been allowed to not notify and recall this product? They built and sold a common household product that through normal wear and tear may shoot shards of hot glass throughout your home. How is this possible they have not recalled this product or notified their customers of this safety hazard? They may as well strapped dynamite to the oven door and say it may explode after a few years if you use your product as intended.

The product, in the report: Oven Range
The consumer indicates that the outermost glass of his oven range’s door exploded. The unit was not on and nobody was in the kitchen. The consumer’s wife came into the kitchen when she heard popping noises similar to popcorn popping and noticed that the glass door was still shattering at a distance of up to eight feet approximately. The consumer checked to see if the unit had turned on by itself but the unit was cool everywhere.
The consumer states that the oven range is used approximately once or twice a month. The last time the oven was used was two weeks ago.
The consumer contacted the Manufacturer and explained the situation. The representative he spoke to informed him that they had not heard of this issue occurring with other consumers; they will not be able to provide any assistance free of charge since the oven range is no longer under warranty.
Because of the upcoming festivities, the consumer will repair the unit. The consumer plans on keeping his oven range for at least the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

The product, in the report: Kenmore model 790.47782401 glass front wall oven.
I had my Kenmore model 790.47782401 oven set on 350, and it had been on for about 1 hour. I opened the door to check my meatloaf inside, I was within 1 foot of the door. It exploded, literally, in my face and all over me! My oven is a wall oven, so it is eye level with me, and I was literally covered in glass all over me. There was glass all over my kitchen, dining room, and carpeted area out of dining room...literally glass blew out at a distance of 20 feet or more away! Amazingly, I didn’t get any in my eyes, I had shut them just before it all hit my face, I had it in my hair, all over my clothes, arms, etc. Thank goodness my child wasn’t in the kitchen with me as he often is! I could have lost an eye or both eyes for that matter!!

[REDACTED]
Gentlemen:
We purchased our Sears Kenmore Range in April 2014 and it was installed in May of that year while we were renovating our kitchen. The kitchen was not in full operation until mid May. Since then, we have had several service calls on this appliance but one problem still persists, two and half years later.
When I use the self- cleaning mechanism on this range, it burns the top of the vent panel at the top of the door. The first service call for this problem was in December 2014. They replaced the panel that was burnt. The technician, [REDACTED], did state that the problem was considered cosmetic and the company would probably not keep replacing it. When it came time for us to take out an extended warranty, we made sure we took out a Master Protection Plan to cover this problem.
The next incident happened in December 2015 when I used the self- cleaning operation of the range and the panel was again burned and then replaced. The panel burned once again in April of this year but I did not request a service call: I instead wrote a certified letter to Sears Headquarters in Illinois and requested a response to this reoccurring problem. We were frustrated about this because, never at any time, did they look to see why the burning was happening. They just continued to replace the part. When headquarters did not respond to my letter, I followed up with an email on May 18, 2016. At the same time, I requested another service call to replace the burnt part. They replaced that part on June 10, 2016. During that visit, the technician did also replace the gasket in case that was causing the problem.
Unfortunately, due to a great deal of entertaining, we had to use the self cleaning again and again the panel burnt. On July 19, 2016, l spoke with a [REDACTED] and a [REDACTED] at headquarters to discuss this continuous problem. It was discussed at that time that maybe the panel could be replaced with a metal panel. Today, July 22, 2016, the service technician, [REDACTED], came and was told that the specs cannot be changed on the unit so the panel could not be changed to a metal or black plastic. It would have to remain white. Another part has been ordered.
I followed up with another call to headquarters and spoke with [REDACTED]. I requested another range in exchange for this one. We definitely believe there is a manufacturing defect that is causing this burn issue when the temperature gets hot. They said I would have to have 4 continuous calls for the same problem in a 12 month period; and for 2016, we only have 21!
We are looking for a replacement stove based on the fact that nothing should be burning when you operate any part of a stove. However, Sears appears to be more caught up with the number of visits per problem, rather than the safety of a unit. We do understand that there are guidelines to follow under the warranty; but we feel this problem should not be happening at all and should not be treated as a warranty problem. It is a manufacturing defect.
Attached you will find receipts for the calls for this issue, the letter I wrote to headquarters and a copy of the email that was sent. We are also including a picture of the panel.
We would appreciate any help you can give in this matter. We have met a “wall”.

The product, in the report: Oven and glass cooktop
We were baking a dish at 400 degrees in our Kenmore model# 79095352803 after 50 mins. It was done and we left the oven at 400 to cook a pizza next. We started to eat, after about 15 mins. We heard a very loud pop. I went to investigate, I realized the oven was still on and looked inside. The entire inside glass door was shattered. My son was the one who was going to cook the pizza, I’m thankful that he wasn’t checking on the pizza with his head near the glass. We don’t use the oven very often, maybe 2 times a month. We have had the oven for about 5 years, but it is in excellent condition. This is a safety issue and should be recalled. Consumers like me don’t believe this is normal wear and tear.

The product, in the report: Kenmore wall oven.
I have a kenmore wall oven, model#: 790.40459802. I opened the oven door and the oven exterior front door glass exploded. The door glass part number is 318051525. I called Kenmore and was told that a technician can come to my home and give me an estimate (charge, $150.00). Price for the part is $204.00. The price for both charges is the price of the oven. I advised the Kenmore representative to please make a note of our conversation because I will be filing complaints. They looked up my information under the telephone number [REDACTED]. Please assist me in having this company replace the piece of glass thst should have never exploded while I was simply opening the oven door. Thanks.

The product, in the report: Slide in range/convection oven
My Kenmore oven door shattered across the kitchen floor as it was baking a ham at 380 degrees. There was no knick or scratch in the glass or problem with the door previously. We bought this home in 2014 and the oven was here when we purchased the house. It is a convection oven with a ceramic glass top. There was a child walking in my kitchen at the time just inches away from stepping in front of the door when it shattered. Glass hit the child in the chin and caused bleeding. I have never seen anything like this before, not had the friends and neighbors that I contacted about the situation. I have, however, seen many many reports online of similar incidents happening. I have pictures taken to document the incident if they are needed.
