The product, in the report: Samsung NX58H5600SS
This problem is with a Samsung gas range, model NX58H5600SS. The grate design does not support medium to smaller size pots/frying pans well enough to where they can tip over and spill hot oils injuring the cook or starting a fire. The grate design can also snag a sleeve, trapping the cook’s hand and cause burns.

The product, in the report: Gas Range, Model # NX58H9500WS/AA Serial # 0BR47DDH500360N
I purchased a Samsung Gas Range on 11.09.2009. It has barely been used due to a knee injury and two subsequent surgeries. I tried using the Self Cleaning feature for the first time on 06.20.2017. After less than an hour of a three hour cycle, the product began smoking and the control panel went out. It even set off the smoke detectors in my house. When I Googled the problem, it turns out there are reports of this happening since at least 2011, and I’m lucky I did not have sparks or a fire. https://www.shopyourway.com/questions/1148115 Samsung gave me a hard time about the repair, and I had to upload the receipt to show the purchase date multiple times on their website. They then told me I was “Lucky” they would repair it at no charge. How am I lucky when the product has a one year warranty? I consider that a legal obligation, not luck. Given the issues with their washers and their phones, a case needs to be opened with their gas and electric ranges too.

The product, in the report: Samsung - 5.8 Cu. Ft. Self-Cleaning Freestanding Gas Range - Stainless Steel Model: NX58F5500SSSKU: 9171082
I own a Samsung - 5.8 Cu. Ft. Self-Cleaning Freestanding Gas Range - Stainless Steel Model: NX58F5500SSSKU: 9171082 that I bought from Best Buy July of 2014. I have used this range many times as well as the oven. I used it two nights ago to bake for about 15 minutes and then I shut it off. I did not do anything different than I have in the past. The range has not been damaged nor hit by anyone. My dog and I heard a loud noise as we were coming down the stairs this morning and it was the oven glass door exploding. The glass shot out across to the dishwasher door which faces the oven. That was enough force to make the glass fly about 4-5’. The glass is supposed to be designed to break into small nuggets so that it does not cause serious harm, however, the glass broke into a combination of nuggets and shards. My dog walked into the kitchen after me to see what was happening and stepped onto glass. I also accidentally got tiny glass shards into my hands as I was trying to get him out. This product is not safe. Had anyone been in the kitchen, myself, my son, or my dog, we could have seriously been harmed. We do not wear shoes in my home and we wear a lot of shorts in the Texas heat. This glass could have cut us and cause lacerations serious enough to seek emergent care. Luckily I was able to take care of my dog’s paws and my hands without difficulty.

No one hurt Made Feb 17, 2017, sent to the company Mar 22, 2017, published by CPSC Apr 5, 2017
The product, in the report: Stainless Steel Gas Range
purchased a Samsung Gas Range. When it was delivered the installer told me to run the oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes I turned off the oven and my hand brushed against the stainless steel strip that runs behind the stove control knobs. It was hot. I then touched it to see how hot it was. It was so hot that I could not maintain contact for more than a second. I called my brother and asked him if his range does the same. He said he never uses the oven REDACT but would try it out and call me back. He did and he said he had the same results. I called Home Depot to report a defective range. They called Samsung and verified that the range was defective. Home Depot has picked it up.

No one hurt Made Dec 2, 2016, sent to the company Jan 6, 2017, published by CPSC Jan 24, 2017
The product, in the report: Samsung Gas Range Model #: NX58H5600SS Serial #: OBGG67DDG704739B
I desperately need your help.
I purchased a Samsung gas range, model number NX58H5600SS, serial number OBGG67DDG704739B, from Lowe’s Home Improvement in Chino Hills, CA on November 13, 2015. I also purchased a five year EPP Major Appliance Protection Plan at the same time. Lowe’s reduced the price of this range, as a courtesy to me, due to two prior Samsung deliveries having scratches on the ranges after opening the crates at my home. The Lowe’s assistant store manager, [REDACTED], told me at that time, that Samsung would make the store absorb the loss of the damaged ranges. That was Samsung’s policy. I don’t understand, why a retailer like Lowe’s, continues doing business with Samsung. Their policy does not make “good business sense.”
My problems all started after I used the self-cleaning feature October 4, 2016. To my surprise, after the oven cooled down, the bottom of my oven was completely shattered. I reported the problem to Samsung the morning of October 5, 2016. I had to email customer service a copy of my receipt and photos of the damage before they would even consider helping me. Originally, Samsung told me my range was out of warranty due to the date of my range.
They agreed to have [REDACTED], Lynwood, CA come out and repair may oven after providing Samsung with proper documentation. [REDACTED] was the tech that came out. He was very surprised that Samsung even agreed to fix the damage. He told me that Samsung automatically considers self-cleaning issues to be customer error, regardless of what happens. He also said that Samsung doesn’t tell the public their policy, they just deny coverage. He went on to explain by using this feature, the seals fail and the mechanism that controls the heat also fails. They fail due to the high temperature that is used when cleaning the oven. Self-cleaning features are big selling points when purchasing a new range. Samsung should be making full disclosure of their policies to the public. Excluding coverage is dishonest and an unfair practice. The consumer needs to be protected
Samsung did however send out the parts to repair my oven including a new oven door. Unfortunately, after [REDACTED] opened the box with the new door in it, we immediately found a three-inch imperfection across the front door. Originally, I reported the damaged door as having a scratch and not an imperfection. I don’t know the difference. I’m a consumer and not an expert on damage control. It was under the protective plastic covering packaged by the manufacture. It was obvious that Samsung shipped a damaged door from their factory. The box that the door was in was in perfect condition. Therefore, the door was shipped that way.
Since the door was damaged, [REDACTED] packed up the box and told me that he would calibrate my oven when he came back with the new door. I agreed. However, [REDACTED], Lowe’s appliance manager, didn’t want me to use the oven until it was calibrated. He was afraid of a potential fire. Since Samsung’s smart phones and washing machines were catching fire, he was concerned for my safety. He didn’t know if my oven was the beginning of another new Samsung problem.
When [REDACTED] reordered the oven door, Samsung denied it. They told their service company, [REDACTED], Lowe’s appliance manager, and myself that they do not warrant cosmetic damages. After I called Samsung again, they told me to call [REDACTED]. [REDACTED], the office manager was rude, nasty and disrespectful. He told me to fight with Samsung myself. It wasn’t his problem. He also insisted that [REDACTED] calibrated my oven when he came out the first time. He wouldn’t even listen to an explanation of what happened in my home. He further told me that he would call the next day and he never did. For Samsung to be using a service company like this, only tells me that they do not really care about their consumers.
Samsung insists that they only send out “PERFECT PRODUCTS” AND ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CONDITION OF THE PARTS THAT ARRIVE AT YOUR HOME. They told me if I wanted my oven fixed, I would need to pay $350.00 for a new door and a $160.00 service call. Since I did not accept delivery of the damaged oven door, it was now my responsibility to fix the problem myself. Being forced to accept delivery of a damaged oven door with a three-inch imperfection is ludicrous.
I’ve made 13 telephone calls to Samsung and [REDACTED], Lowe’s appliance manager, made about the same. They refuse to replace my oven door. This all happened within the 1 year parts and labor warranty. There is no reason why I should have to pay to get my oven door replaced. The “PUBLIC” needs to made aware of Samsung’s policies. When calling Samsung, they either cancel your request for assistance without talking to you or they hang up on you during your conservation. They do not call you back either. Their Executive Customer Service Department is not any better. Calling Samsung is a complete waste of time.
I am so angry with Samsung’s business practices, I have written to the investigative reporting teams of Channels 4 and 7 in the Los Angeles area. I am also asking them for their assistance to help me resolve this issue between Samsung, Lowe’s and myself. I am disabled, on a fixed income of Social Security, trying to make ends meet. They are treating me unfairly. Samsung should be Investigated.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated help.
Sincerely,
[REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Stainless Steel Samsung Chefs Collection Gas Oven Range
I made sure the gliding rack is in correctly in cold oven cavity. I heat the oven broil hi. I broil on a half sheetpan full of chicken parts. I turn the chicken and push in the gliding rack and the hot oven seems to expand and the shelf fall off the rack with the chicken at an angle towards the front. The hot chicken juice hit my leg as well as the bottom of the oven. I replaced the gliding pan with one of the other 2 regular shelves the oven came with and does the same thing. Seems like when oven is hot the cavity walls expand and do not hold the pans in place. I am an Executive Chef for a living and this is not correct. I called Samsung. It is out of warranty and want to send an authorized samsung repair person at a cost of $160 plus to me to look at it. This has happened 3 times now when the broiler is on.

The product, in the report: Free-Standing Gas Range
Our Samsung Gas Range [Model #: NX58H5600S ; S/N: OBGG7DDG703486F] has two burner safety issues:
1.) the low setting flames on every cooktop burner is just too high which easily causes the food and pan to burn, which could result in a fire.
2.) more importantly, if the cooktop “burner cap” is not precisely set on top of its corresponding burner head, a huge flare-up of the LP gas occurs after igniting the burner in the LITE position of the burner control valve.

The product, in the report: Samsung gas range
I sustained 2 burns from empty pan sitting on range top. No range top burner was on but heat escaping through oven vent was over 200° while using the oven. When oven preheats, alarm sounds to signify preset oven temp is reached but burner continues to fire.
I am a registered nurse and practiced in a critical care burn unit during my nursing career. I treated my burns at home since I was much more familiar with burn care than my family practitioner. They have healed well since the incident. I would be very concerned if a child were to touch the oven handle while the oven was operating since their skin burns much more easily than an adult.

The product, in the report: Gas range and oven
We bought our house in April 2015 with all brand-new appliances, including a Samsung gas range and oven. A little over a week ago, as I was unloading our dishwasher, I moved a tray from the cabinet next to the oven and tapped the right edge of the exposed glass pane that covers the front of the oven. I heard a little click and then the entire piece of glass began cracking and falling apart into many tiny pieces. We had not used the over in over a week, so temperature was not a contributing factor. As the appliance is brand new and still covered under warranty, we expected that Samsung would respond quickly to correct this problem at no cost to us, but they are claiming that it is “physical damage” and therefore not covered. It is extremely frustrating as I have been doing research on this problem (see linked article - http://www.abc2news.com/homepage-showcase/experts-explain-when-why-tempered-glass-can-randomly-explode) and understand that it is a manufacturing defect - therefore definitely would fall under Samsung’s responsibility.

The product, in the report: Samsung Gas Oven/range: Purchased at Lowe’s Home Center, Layton, UT
On Monday, August 10, at 6:57 PM I turned on our Samsung oven. It was the firs time using the oven although we had used the stove for two weeks. After 10 minute the temperature reading still showed 150 F. I thought I could hear a fan or something running. I leaned forward and opened the oven to look inside.
A blue and yellow fireball erupted, engulfing my entire head. I slammed the door shut and fell back, patting my head to make sure that I wasn’t on fire. I checked in the mirror: no flames or smoldering but lots of singed hair. I called 911. I turned off the oven. Injuries: eyes felt sunburned the next day. Today my nose has some peeling skin but no blisters and minimal pain.
A few minutes later the paramedics and I took a look at the oven. There were no residual flames, sooty areas, or other signs of problem. The only evidence was my singed hair and a slight burn to my nose. We speculated on the cause and decided to try it again. This time when I turned on the oven the digital reading of temperature rose quickly, which I had expected the first time. When I opened the door the oven was clear and hot. I cooked my meal in the oven that evening with no further troubles.
Possible factors: * This was the first use of the oven * Aluminum foil on the bottom of the oven (to catch drippings and make cleaning easier) * A clean, empty cake pan was inside the oven when I turned it on. I did this by mistake. * The was an oily smell from the oven. Perhaps the coating was becoming gasified and caught flame when I opened the door and allowed in fresh oxygen * I installed the range myself. There was no leaking, the stove worked well, and I checked all lines with a soapy spray to check for bubbles. There were no leaks. A friend who installs appliances checked my work. I had not “flushed the line” (his words), so it took a few seconds before the burners on the stove lit. Perhaps there was air in the line to the oven and, without gas, the igniting sparks had ended before gas came through. I don’t know what would have ignited the flame, however, unless there were new sparks or some flame inside. * My friend (who installs kitchen appliances) speculated that I might have bumped a knob on the stove, allowing gas to leak out without catching flame. I do not believe that happened. Neither of the paramedics nor I observed this on Monday when we inspected the stove.

The product, in the report: Device: Samsung Kitchen Gas Range, Model FX710BGS/XAA, Serial No J0NU7DDBA01433W, Purchased on 12/11/11. Background: Within a few months of purchase my wife sprayed cleaner on the back of the stove to clean splatter. When she did so, the whole control unit shorted out and disabled the range. This was repaired under warranty. We mostly use the cook-top, and seldom use the oven/broiler. If the Oven/Broiler had been used 5 times since purchase I’d be amazed. Current issue: On or about 12/20/14 we were cooking Spaghetti & Sauce. These two pots were on the cook top so my wife used the broiler for the first time to do Garlic Toast. When the toast was finished my wife found the control pad too hot for her to touch. Since I was in the kitchen she asked me to do it. I found the control pad to be extremely hot, but do-able for me. I pressed the off button repeatedly, but the broiler would not shut off. The stove was a run-away, on high broiler. At this time I noticed that the control pad had severely warped from the heat and was non-functional. Fortunately, I strong and was able to pull the stove away from the wall and unplug it. (Plan B was to go behind the stove and shut-off the gas line.) When I pulled the power plug the broiler shut down. We let it cool away from the wall and then repositioned it. Haven’t used the oven/broiler since. I have photos of the permanently warped control pad that I can send. The unit is available for inspection. Thank God I was home, my wife would not have been able to move the hot stove to un-plug it or shut off the gas. If we were broiling something that took longer and left the room we could have had a house fire.

The product, in the report: Samsung Range stainless steel gas 30”. Model #NX58F5700WS
Received new Samsung free standing stove/oven. Upon hooking up the appliance and turning on the oven to see if it was working there was fire and smoke that erupted from wires in the back. The burners were working fine as was the oven but something happened and smoke and fire started to erupt from the bottom back wire area.

The knobs on the stove do not lock and easily get moved into the gas on position by nudging or when cleaning. We have had them go accidentally many times and didn’t know it until someone smelled gas.

The product, in the report: Samsung - 30” Self-Cleaning Freestanding Gas Range - Stainless-Steel
The oven was heating. My daughter was standing beside the oven with a glass measuring cup in her hand. She turned and the measuring cup hit the glass edge of the oven door. The entire glass face shattered. Shards of glass flew everywhere. The entire oven face is a glass panel. There is no metal along the edges of the glass panel to protect it from being hit by objects. There were no injuries. My daughter was the only one in the kitchen at the time. She has a 3 year old who could have been at face level to this when it happened.

The product, in the report: Gas Range
Caller purchased a gas range around a year and a half ago (estimated to be maybe April 2012) and didn’t notice any major problems in the beginning but she wasn’t baking regularly). In May of 2012 she was baking vegetables and other foods and at first noticed that the handle on the microwave above the range was very hot and then noticed that the handles of pans on top of the stove were also very hot.
She said that the range has a long vent opening at the back of the burner area/oven controls where heat from the oven vents. She believes that this may be much of the problem.
She contacted the warranty company and spoke with supervisor named [REDACTED] who told her that this heat on top, behind and above the stove is normal. She was advised that no one could contact the manufacturer and that they didn’t have the phone number. I provided the caller with the manufacturer customer support/technical service phone number. She is planning to contact the manufacturer.
There have been no injuries

The product, in the report: Samsung FX510BGS free-standing gas range
Product: Samsung FX510BGS gas range
Grate spacing near center of burners is too wide to support pots and pans with a base diameter of about 6 inches or less. Had several incidents when a hot pan nearly tipped over. Problem occurs with small sauce pans and saute pans, both inexpensive un-branded as well as expensive [REDACTED] cookware.
This new range was installed 9/4/2012.
