The product, in the report: Whirlpool convection electric freestanding range, 5.3 cu ft. Black stainless. Retail price around $1100-$1200. Model WFE550S0HV0
I have a Whirlpool oven that is about 2 years old, but has only been in use since last August (when I purchased my new construction home). A few months ago, after a spillover in the oven, I used the self-cleaning feature. About an hour or so into the cycle, there was a pop, flash under the oven, the oven shut off and the breaker popped. I have a black soot mark on the wall behind the oven and the computer board is toast. The Sears Hometown (where the appliance was purchased by the builder) said he advises people not to use the self-cleaning function because the oven may overheat. He stated the overheating caused the wiring to fray/separate, which caused the spark and tripping the breaker.
The seller states the oven is out of warranty -- it was purchased and sat in the vacant new construction home for about a year-- and they will not refund the purchase price or replace the unit. They have offered to repair it (after already “repairing” it once, only to have the same thing happen again). I’ve declined that offer and I am now forced to buy a new stove, lest I burn my house down using this defective product.

On 06/18/21 (around 8:00 a.m.) daughter awoke to house filled with smoke. Daughter moved 2 children and pets to outside house. Daughter called 911 reporting the fire. Daughter went to back door of house (adjacent to electrical panel) and turned off electrical breakers. Daughter contact me (her father), I went to the house. The house was full of smoke. I confirmed electrical disconnect at main breaker and holding my breath, I went into house to evaluate fire level. Fire level was reduced to glowing paper on which I pour water to extinguish glowing embers. As other sources of fire were unknown, house was not ventilated. County sheriff arrived who opened front do allow smoke to clear. Fire department arrived thereafter and went into house. Source of fire was the kitchen electrical range and paper adjacent to stove. Initial assessment (as an engineer) was the fire started in the control panel (possibly from electrical short) on the back of stove. There were no injuries from the fire.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool Freestanding Electric Double Oven Range - Black/Stainless Steel - Model Number WGE745C0FS01 Model WGE745C0FS01
Purchased Whirlpool Double Oven Range Oct. 2019. After second time using cleaning cycle, noticed shiny flakes of a material in bottom of oven and some on top of food which was baked. Noticed first in bottom oven, then top oven. Talked to Whirlpool, they sent repairman to our house who took pictures, sent these to his supervisor, and told me it was irreparable. Said it looked like oven coating flaking off. Gave me a case number and said to call Whirlpool. This was early May, 2021. Whirlpool sent another oven to replace it, just like original. It was delivered 6-15-21. That night, I wiped the inside of the upper oven with a wet paper towel and could see same shiny flakes as with original oven. Never even used. DEFECTIVE!

The product, in the report: Whirlpool electric range
My Whirlpool electric ranges oven caught on fire. The heating element burned up. I turned the oven off and the fire went out after it cooled. The food that was being cooked in the oven was in a covered dish and there was no grease or any other fire starter that could have caused this fire. The model# is WFE540HDES1 Serial# R8107645B. This is a Whirlpool glass cook top range in the same family of stoves that have have been recalled for the stove top burners catching on fire.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool Black and steel electric range with heating coils MOdel WFC31060ES1
My husband, who does not usually cook, was frying on the stove. He did not realize that the stove had broken (again) and the burner was becoming uncontrollably hot. As the burner became brighter orange and his oil started burning he asked me if it was normal. Thankfully, I rushed over, removed the burning oil, and turned off the burner, but not before all the fire alarms in our house went off (our whole first floor was filled with smoke). I reported this exact same problem one year ago. Whirlpool replaced the part (which they said was faulty). I want this stove recalled before someone is killed. What if it had been one of my teenage boys cooking?

The product, in the report: Whirlpool Electric Range
One of the burners on the Whirlpool stove would heat up to the highest setting. We fortunately were able to have a service tech come and fix the issue for free even though the warranty had just expired the month before. Our neighborhood is a new development (Est. 2017) and we just learned that all of our neighbors who had the same make and model of Whirpool Electric stoves had or are having the same problem. I instructed the neighbors to call as I did to see if they could get it fixed for free since this is safety hazard and we were able to get it taken care of. Apparently some are getting through to Whirlpool and others are not which is very unfair. This should be fixed for all customers because it is a safety hazard. Product number is W10719733A. The product, in the report: Free standing, electric range with oven
The oven was set to 350 degrees and within approximately 5 minutes, the temperature jumped to an extremely high setting. The home became filled with smoke. The consumer immediately unplugged the oven from the wall outlet.
They were baking cookies at the time, which caught fire and burned up. There was no other damage to the home, outside of the cookies burning and the smoke emitted.
12/2021: The consumer called the manufacturer, but due to Covid issues, they waited January 2021, before allowing someone to come to their home.
1/15/2021: A manufacturer authorized technician came out and checked the range. The tech. told the consumer that CNTRL-ELEC (Part# WPW10340304), needed to be replaced.
The consumer followed up with the mfr. again and initially, the mfr. reps (names unknown) told him that he had to cover the cost on his own. The consumer said he was not comfortable with the safety of this product. His concerns were submitted to a higher authority for review.
The consumer next spoke with [REDACTED] (Mfr’s. Mgr), Tel: 866-930-3583. ext. [REDACTED]. After some back and forth, [REDACTED] told the consumer that they could offer 40% off the purchase of a new range or they would buy it back for 40% of what he paid.
NOTE: Even if the consumer decided to repair this range/oven, the part was back-ordered for weeks and there is no time frame when he may get the part. Therefore, he is not sure how he will proceed at this time.

In the middle of the night the range started beeping. When I investigated the oven was on and very hot but the displays did not show the oven was on. Pushed the oven cancel button and the beeping stopped and the oven turned off.
I know the oven was off when I wen to bed. There was no indication on the display that the oven was on, the only thing that had me check was the beeping.
I figured I should at least report it in case it happens to someone else.

This stove is extremely dangerous. We have received several minor burns from the stove top and oven handle, even when only the oven is in use (the stove top is not on). All the oven heat vents out the top and front, which means a toddler would almost guaranteed to be burned just when attempting to help a parent around the kitchen.
NOTE: although the incident date was 9/14, this has happened multiple times since this was installed earlier this year.

The product, in the report: ceramic top kitchen range
I have a Whirlpool electric range : Model Number: WTW4815EW Serial Number: R64613472
This range was purchased in November 2016.
Two burner controls have failed. In both cases the controls failed such that the burner was stuck on high. Fortunately, I was there to notice.
In some cases a pot is left on to simmer. Had this been the case, I might have had a kitchen fire.
This range model should be recalled and Whirlpool should payoff repairs. I have contacted Whirlpool about this safety concern and they have merely responded with “sorry for you poor experience.”

bought my first glasstop stove Whirlpool and noticed when I turn the temp down on the front burner, the temp goes up high. It has burned quite a bit of food and caused spill over multiple times. In the beginning, I thought that I did not know how to operate the stove properly but later realized it’s just a badly made product and can be a fire hazard. I also purchased a [REDACTED] at the same time and I have had nothing but problems right after the first year. [REDACTED] These appliances were purchased from Home Depot in the year of 2017. I feel that they should last more than one year. I’m am very disappointed with my purchases.

The product, in the report: Whirpool 36” Freestanding Electric Range Cooktop Model: WFE320M0EB1 Serial No: R72611116
This is a Glass Cooktop. The Right Front Cooking Element will heat up to HI and stay there. The heat cannot be reduced except by turning the element OFF. When the element is setting on medium it will heat up to HI by itself and will not reduce. It must be turned off.
Additionally - when the ‘hot surface’ indicator light goes out - this right front element remains very hot - enough to burn skin. It is almost as if it never shut off and is in the middle low to medium range.

We purchased a model home from a local builder. The home was 4 years old when we purchased it, but having been a new home sales agent myself before, the builders do not allow us agents to use the ovens. We have been in the house 1 year, 10 months and our top oven inside glass exploded while I was preheating the oven. We have used the top oven MAYBE a total of 8 times since living in our house - we are empty nesters with no kids or grandkids.

The product, in the report: Free standing glass top range oven with touch controls
I was contacted by my renter that he came home and two of the electric stove top burners had come on by themselves while he was at work. I purchased this Whirlpool stove model WFE520S0FS0 new from Sears on 06/09/2017. Because this is a clear and present danger to people and property, it must be reported and submitted for recall. This free standing range has a glass cook top with touch controls just like the models currently being recalled for the same problem.

The product, in the report: Electric, built-in oven
This was the 2nd time that the consumer used the self-cleaning feature, since he has owned the oven.
The enamel on the front bottom of the oven has started to chip and it shows several spider cracks. The first time the consumer noticed it, was after using the self-cleaning feature, the second time. That area is rough enough for someone to slice their fingers.
2/3/2020: The consumer called the manufacturer and the retail company.
2/4/2020: The retailer’s technician came out and checked the range and indicated that he thought the problem was cosmetic. The tech. said that they could take a high-temperature paint stick and paint it. This is not acceptable to the consumer.
The consumer also spoke with a manufacturer’s rep. and she said that the only thing that could be done would be to replace the oven. However, the retailer does not want to replace it.
NOTE: The mfr’s warranty cover’s the first year, but the consumer also purchased a retailer’s warranty, which covers additional years.
The consumer believes that this may present a fire/burn hazard,

Whirlpool model WFE550S0HZ range started the Clean Cycle on it’s own. When I returned home it was extremely hot and no one had started the clean cycle. The cycle could not be interrupted and had to be stopped by turning off the circuit. When it cooled I turned the breaker on again and the stove controls were blank. No controls and the door was still locked. The range was purchased 1 year ago.
If this had happened when away I am certain it would have started a fire. There is a recall in place for whirlpool glass cooktops that start on their own as well.

My wife and I were finding our Whirlpool model WFE710HOAH glass top oven top warm when we were getting up in the mornings. There is a recall with [REDACTED] but only in the touch pad version. Our oven is dial controlled and this problem presents itself. On 11/12/2019 I noticed there was no sign of power on the oven i.e. clock etc. when going to bed. The oven had not been used that day but the stovetop was used in the evening for dinner. I went to the fuse box and the 50amp breaker was kicked out. I reset the breaker and have not noticed the stove top being warm but I am fearful we are dealing with an unknown possibly dangerous problem.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool Smooth Surface 5 Elements 5.3-cu ft Self-Cleaning Single-Fan Freestanding Electric Range (Fingerprint-Resistant Stainless Steel) (Common: 30-in; Actual: 29.875-in)
I bought a stainless steel whirlpool stove/range almost a year ago and have been burned multiple times by the outside front rim. I had a c section and then a hernia repair surgery so I have nerve damage in my stomach and can’t feel when things get hot in that area. The first time it happened I was wearing double layers of clothing and I sustained 3rd degree burns that are still not healed and it has been 4-5 months. I decided to file a report cause this happened again last night and I was wearing 3 layers of clothing. I don’t have young children anymore but if this stove/oven can do this much damage to an adults skin- I can only imagine what it could do to a little ones hand, face etc and this is an exterior piece- it’s not sticking fingers in places they shouldn’t be etc. After discovering last night I had new burn blisters that were popping I decided to look around to see if anyone else was having issues or if it was just me and found numerous other complaints of people dating back to 2016 so obviously this is not a new design flaw. This is a huge problem and I am shocked whirlpool has not been sued or tried to recall these products and figure out a better design. Prior to this stove I had a stainless steel [REDACTED] (we sold our house so that stove stayed) I had the same nerve damage when owning that stove and never once experienced a burn while cooking over it or while the oven was on. In the new house we bought they had already upgraded the dishwasher and fridge to a whirlpool so to match the brands- we bought the whirlpool stove/oven. Had I known this issue would give me these types of burns and scarring I would have replaced the dishwasher and went with a [REDACTED] like we had or researched other brands. I never have seen warnings or reviews saying there was a problem until I blatantly looked up burns from whirlpool stove and found a whole thread on a ”[REDACTED] consumer” website. Thank you for your time and looking into this matter. This is the oven I own- Whirlpool Smooth Surface 5 Elements 5.3-cu ft Self-Cleaning Single-Fan Freestanding Electric Range (Fingerprint-Resistant Stainless Steel) model #wfe550s0hz still being sold by Lowe’s to this day.

The product, in the report: Electric Range (with ceramic smooth top) with oven
Approximately 9/20/2019: The consumer had a plastic salt shaker sitting on the range top and it melted. None of the burners were turned on. The oven was in the pre-heat mode for approximately 5 minutes and it was set to 375 for approximately 10 minutes, before turning it off. The consumer said that the salt shaker had been on range top the entire time.
The consumer had to use a hot-pad to remove what was left of the salt shaker.
The consumer is concerned because she placed her hand approximately 4” over the range top surface and it was extremely hot. The consumer said that had she left her hand there that she could have easily gotten burned.
The consumer’s son-in-law pulled out the stove and the consumer cleaned underneath it. She tried the oven again and found that the range top surface became extremely hot when the oven was used (without the burners in use).
After that, she had her son-in-law remove the stove and place it in the garage and she replaced it with a different brand. The replacement brand does not present this problem. Prior to moving into this home 2 months ago, the consumer also had a ceramic smooth-top range and when she used the oven, the surface did not get hot. Therefore, she does not believe that this is a common problem.
During the last week of September 2019, the consumer called the manufacturer and filed a report with their rep. The rep. told the consumer that there was no recall on her product and the rep. said that she did not recall hearing this problem before.

I was cooking fried potatoes on the left front burner. I had the rheostat on low-medium heat. After about 5 minutes I smelled smoke as I was preparing other foods for breakfast. When I turned to the stove, smoke was pouring our from under the pan lid. I looked at the burner control and it was still on low-medium heat setting; however, the burner was red hot. I turned the burner off and then grabbed a pot holder and removed the pan from the burner. I have tried using this burner several times since, watching it closely, and it continues to heat to maximum temp while the rheostat is on a lower setting.

The product, in the report: Glass cooktop with dual elements and electronic touch controls. 36 inch flush mount in counter. This was a replacement for the cooktop originally purchased from Lowes. The [REDACTED] was out of spec when purchased and Whirlpool provided this replacement product direct from the factory. The info below is for the final product obtained directly from Whirlpool. Purchase from Lowes started in November 2018. Cooktop was not installed until January 10, 2019 when corrected product was received.
Installed glass cooktop in January 2019. 1 time in June and 1 time in July, we had a brief power outage due to storms. The power just flickered each time. When we walked to the kitchen we found that the cooktop had turned itself on. The first time, the left front burner element was on. The element was glowing red and the H was illuminated on the cooktop indicating Hot Element. No other lights were on. I pressed the Off button and the element turned off. I then pressed the lookout button. It illuminated indicating the cooktop controls were locked out. The next incident, after a power flicker, my wife walked to the kitchen and felt radiant heat coming from the cooktop. The right rear warming element had turned itself on. The H was illuminated indicating Hot Element. She pressed the off button and it apparently turned off. The warming element does not glow thru the glass cooktop. She was able to press the lookout button and it illuminated. There was no damage as we do not place anything on the cooktop as instructed by Whirlpool user manual. We feel this is a hazard as the cooktop turns on by itself even though the lookout button is pressed.

We have a Whirlpool cook top electric stove. We purchased this stove at Lowe’s on 7/5/16. Lately I have noticed the from right burner going to high after being on for a little while. Ex: I make burgers on medium. After cooking for around 10 minutes the heat goes to high and stays that way until I turn the burner off wait a couple minutes then turn it back on again....back to med. After a while I have to repeat the process. I cannot just put something on low and walk away to let it cook for a while. I did that and found my food ruined due to being burned.

My glass top stove has given me problems since purchase. The convection oven is great for cooking/broiling meat but bread/cakes never brown or bake. My burners regulate at their own temperature. When on low the burners will automatically go to a higher temperature (out of control).. The oven overheats/undercooks food and I have found signs that the wires are over heating and burning. I purchased this glass top stove hoping to get a product that would last and I could enjoy cooking. Deserts can’t be prepared and the constant watching to keep food burning (on low) has become irritating. Please give me some options and help me to trust my appliance and enjoy cooking again.

Our ~11 month old son was playing in his walker roaming around the home. He was passing in front of the oven when he pushed his walker away using the oven door as a lever. His middle finger rubbed along the back edge of the oven door and suffered a very deep cut. The cut is very bad leading us to the hospital emergency. We are told that his finger tip would fall off after drying. We never expected the edge of the oven door (Whirlpool WOS51EC0AS02) to be sharp to cause such a deep cut. We have baby proofed the whole home and this was not something that seemed dangerous while not is use. We would want the manufacturer to review the design so people especially children do not get injured. It can also injure people cleaning the over door.

The first time I used my new oven the door and flat top surface felt hot so I checked the temperature and it was 150 degrees. I am concerned about someone being burned. It also seems a waste of energy. My previous Whirlpool oven stayed cool on the outside when the oven was on. I was concerned about wall or cabinets being damaged but I am told it is not hot enough to catch fire. I fear how hot it would get if I broil instead of bake.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool White 30” Ceran Range (stove)
I purchased a new Whirlpool YWFE51 0S0AX0 from Whirlpool Corporation, Benton Harbor Michigan 49022 on August 1st, 2012. Paid $789.99 without tax Cad. Worked fine until June 19, 2019. I had just turned the left front element on low and placed dinner in a heavy fry pan on the element. I was called outside for a few minutes. I came back to a large room (kitchen, dining and living room - all open area) full of smoke and a terrible smell. Dinner had totally burned to a crisp and had almost ignited...even though the element was set on its lowest setting (and I believed that the element was on its lowest setting.) The element ONLY operated on the highest full setting, no matter the setting I manually set it to. And, the element stayed on full high. Creating a serious fire hazard. Unless I manually turned it off. I do not know why the stove and/or fry pan with food did not catch on fire. Since this incident several days ago, the left front element.will now ONLY operate on full high, irrespective as to the settling which is used.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool electric radiant cook top purchased on February 21, 2019 and installed within the next day or two. Installed by myself.
The first incident occurred on Thursday, March 28, 2019. The unit was not being used at the time a brief power outage occurred. When power came back on, the cook top came on by itself and allowed a heating element to start getting hot. This was even though the safety lock out device was activated. We noticed it and turned It off before It got hot enough to cause any problem. Another power outage occurred on Friday and that is when it got extremely red hot. Later on Friday, I turned the power off and on at the service entrance and it did the same thing again even though I made sure the safety device was active. Had my wife not been home at the time it might have burned the house to the ground! The unit was not being used at the time either. In all three incidents the power had been off and back on. I since have removed the cook top and returned It to Lowe’ s. I also called Whirlpool and advised them. I am retired from [REDACTED] where I was a safety supervisor In the largest [REDACTED] plastic facility in the world and I have a great deal of experience investigating such incidents. This was a very scary, serious Incident!

The product, in the report: Black & Stainless Steel Electric Range & Oven with heating coils (not glass top)
When the large bottom left burner of the electric stove-top is set to the middle setting (5-MED out of a possible 10-HI), it will suddenly become red hot (as if it’s set to the 10-HI setting). It has done this on numerous occasions. It will not cool down even when reduced to a 4 or 2 setting (LOW). The only way to get it to stop becoming hotter and redder is to turn the burner off completely and wait a few minutes. It has done this multiple times and will even jump from the 2 or 4 settings (when I have something set to simmer or warm). If I turn away from the stove for even a moment to chop something or get something from the refrigerator it can mean whatever I am cooking is burnt. It is a fire hazard. This stove is less than 2 years old!

12/12/18 I put our Whirlpool built in oven on the #2 cleaning cycle for the first time since we moved into new home 4 years ago. About an hour into the cycle I heard a loud boom and as I ran into the kitchen hot glass was being rocketed out of the bottom of the shattered oven door and was flying all over kitchen.
Whirlpool Gold Series household electric range Model # - WOS92ECOASO2 Serial # - D45019865
There were no injuries by the grace of God as I had just left the chair facing the oven a few minutes before the explosion.
I called Whirlpool customer service and the rep said my warranty was for only one year and since there was no fire , smoke or arcing - this was not a safety issue. She ask me a series of questions for the safety team and said they would determine if I would get a call back within the next 24 to 48 hours. She said since this is not a safety issue - we would have to pay for all repairs or new oven.
Even if we get the glass door replaced - the question around the safety of the self cleaning system is an issue. We are very discouraged with the response from Whirlpool.

Whirlpool Double Wall Oven (WOD51ECOAB00) intermittently turns off then on. While it’s cooking, the oven turns off for no reason and the LCD panel goes dark. After a minute or two, the LCD panel turns back on and the oven changes from cooking mode to preheat mode. I’ve had technician’s out twice and they won’t do anything until they can replicate the problem. I have dozens of reported incidents on this model from the internet so it’s not uncommon. Whirlpool won’t do anything until it shoes as a recall.
Ironically, this same issue was a recall in 2004 (8 years prior to my model). In that recall, it was a defective fan that caused the thermal fuse to flow.

It started a fire in my kitchen back the first time I reported it. A man came out and replaced the things that control the elements. Now for two years they have been getting worse. There’s only two I can cook on. They get burning hot on low. The oven has started doing the same thing. I have been using a small counter top oven. This stove is dangerous. The product, in the report: single wall oven
The submitter set the oven to 350 degrees and put a meal inside. After 30 minutes, she noticed a burn odor and she went to check on the food but the door would not open. When she tugged on the door the outer glass shattered to pieces and went everywhere in the kitchen. She indicated that the glass hit her but she didn’t sustain injuries. She noticed the control panel had an error code “PF3” and after the glass shattered she pressed the off button and shut off the circuit breaker.
The inner glass is still intact.
The submitter contacted the fire department because she was concerned with the food inside the oven and the heat levels. When they arrived they opened the oven door and the submitter removed the food. They also inspected the home to insure there wasn’t a fire hazard.
She indicated that it took 2.5 hours for the oven to cool down.
The unit was already in the house when she purchased it in 2006.
The submitter plans to contact the firm.

My wife turned off the oven, however element continued to glow bright red with fire emitting. Only when she called me in my office and followed my instructions to turn off the house breaker to the Range did the element extinguish. I contracted Whirlpool this morning and described incident. I offered Whirlpool the unit for investigation if they would provide a replacement. This freestanding Range was purchased new by me from Lowes when our house was built in mid 2004. The product, in the report: Whirlpool Electric Range model #: WFC310S0ES
I am very surprised that my Whirlpool Electric Range model #: WFC310S0ES has not been recalled.
My problems started just before the warrantee expired.
I bought a coil stove because I can a lot of fruit. While canning the 8 inch element collapsed into to well of the element. The top of the stove got so hot, when I wiped the top off my dishrag burnt. Whirlpool sent a service person out. They replaced a five coil, 8 inch element with a four coil, 8 inch element. I argued with the repair people and Whirlpool. They refused to fix it and Whirlpool basically told me, to bad my warranty had expired. I also noticed the piece the coil fits into is disintegrating. The repair people did not fix it.
Now the large element gets so hot on medium that a spatula melted to the pan.
The top of the stove gets so hot when the oven is on I am afraid someone or something will get bunted. As hot a the stove gets when cooking I am afraid to clean the oven because of the heat. The left rear element, which is the vent for the oven, cannot have a pan sitting on it when the oven is in use. There is so much heat coming out of the vent it burnt the bottom of a cookie sheet.

The product, in the report: Electric flat-topped range/oven brushed stainless steel finish
We use the range several times per day. After about two years in service, the right front burner began intermittently getting excessively hot. The problem became more frequent to where now the burner does not shut off at any temp setting, I.e. I can set the burner to low and it never shuts off until I turn the switch off. This is on a dual burner element and happens whether using one or both burners in that position. I can boil water in about two minutes on the lowest setting. This is a serious hazard for burns and fire.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool freestanding range model #WFE320M0EW
This complaint is submitted as a safety concern in regards to the hazardous wiring installation practices of a range power cord from my local Lowe’s Home Improvement Store. Whirlpool range (model #WFE320M0EW) purchased (order # [REDACTED] for $465.64) from Lowe’s of Central Tampa store #0564, and was delivered on 2/3/18 by [REDACTED] and [REDACTED]. The range appliance cord was improperly installed to the unit, causing multiple hazardous issues. They also did not install the anti-tip bracket according to the manufacturers installation instructions. The points of concern are as follows: 1- Did not install Anti-tip bracket. Several employees told me they do not install those, including the store manager. 2- The white tag labeled “Remove tag. Use nuts with power cord” was left in place and not removed by 2 different installation techs. 3- The power supply cord strain relief was not installed causing the individual wires to make contact with the sheet metal. 4- The “metal ground strap” was not removed per the 4-wire connection installation instruction recommendation. I discovered this problem on 4/24/18 and contacted the store Asst Mgr [REDACTED]. He had the delivery/service manager [REDACTED] contact me. I explained and emailed photos of the problem and he attempted to send out the same team that did the original improper install. I felt it was unacceptable to send out the same persons and asked for someone else. He sent [REDACTED] the same day. [REDACTED] appeared to not have the proper training and experience in addition to the first crew. He attempted to connect the wiring improperly as well. When I explained what the problem was he said he understood the hazardous nature of the way he was about to wire it but said he didn’t have the correct parts. It was clear to me that he was not competent to do the install correctly and I asked him to leave and to have the store manager, [REDACTED], contact me. After attempting several calls to [REDACTED] I reached him. He had a copy of the photo’s and I attempted to describe the issues, but he was more concerned on how to “resolve the issue” so he could end the phone call. I informed him that I hired a professional appliance installation company which came on 4/25/18 and properly installed the range appliance cord and anti-tip bracket according to the installation instructions. [REDACTED] agreed to credit me up to $100 towards the installation of the wiring and leveling of the unit, but refused to credit me for the anti-tip bracket install. I am being billed by, and am awaiting the invoice from Roberts and Company, LLC., who completed the final install. I feel that Lowe’s is engaging in dangerous improper installations and don’t feel the management has taken this seriously. I also tried to file a complaint with Lowe’s Corporate, which said a complaint of this nature gets forwarded to the store manager for resolution.

This consumer is reporting his electric range for the second time for the same type of incidents which is the range turning on with the consumer unable to turn it off. That incident report was # 20170626-C9BC6-1674603.he
He is now reporting that 7 months has passed and the range is now turning itself on again as of February 4th or 5th, 2018. He contacted the manufacturer who advised him that they would send someone out this time but not again. The tech came to the caller’s home and during inspection and repair informed him that he lives in an area where there are a lot of outages and power surges then commented that these outages and surges may be ‘messing with’ the timer in his range causing the control panels disruption and possibly the burners are acting as timers by coming on then going off. The caller states that he should not be held responsible for outages and surges that he has no control over. He is reporting these incidents as burn and fire hazards. There are no injuries being reported The caller is in touch with the manufacturer.

I need help! I have an unbelievably TOXIC CHEMICAL smell coming from my oven since I’ve owned it and it has NOT gone away after 6 months!! Both myself, my mother and my boyfriend have been suffering with headaches, sore throats, dizziness and nauseu only when the oven is on! I had a service tech out today under my warranty for the first time, and he didn’t even turn the thing on to smell it! He looked at it and left, and said to run a self clean cycle. After only an hour, each of my neighbors on the 9th floor of my condo all called the firedept and knocked on my door because they were sure there was a chemical fire in my place. The self clean did nothing but make it much much worse. This is not normal, toxic and we are borderline about to vomit every day it turns on. It was purchased brand new from best buy less than 6 months ago. My mom has lupus and is now suffering with chest pains. This must be expedited to either fix it, or inform whirlpool it MUST be replaced since it’s still under warranty. I refuse to smell that noxious poison again. My nostrils are burning and my head is killing me. This is toxic.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool Free Standing Range, stainless steel and black
Potential problem with Whirlpool Free standing range model: WFE510S0AS0 Our range is a little more than two years old. We just did a clean cycle and just as it was ending we heard a loud POP. After checking the range out I found that the left two burners no longer worked. Since the range is out of warranty I took it apart to see if I could find the problem. I found that one of the main feed wires to the burners had burned through and shorted to the range metal frame. Actually burned a hole in the metal (see photos). The cause of the problem is that the wires are squeezed to the metal frame by the back of the range. As the unit gets very hot during the clean cycle it melts the wire insulation causing a short circuit. I fixed the broken wire and the burners work fine again. I covered the entire metal area near the wires with electrical tape to add extra insulation. I reported this problem to Whirlpool today as I believe it is a design flaw that can result in a fire or electric shock hazard.

Caller stated that she had cleaned the oven thoroughly several times, however, after placing bacon in the oven to cook she noticed that there were shiny metal particles and paint that had emanated on her food. She stated that she had cooked other things in the oven and must have ingested those foreign objects without knowing it.
Caller feels that this oven is a health hazard because she does not know the health effects of these objects she has ingested. She stated that the incident has been ongoing since the installation of the range in October, but she noticed it sometime around mid October. Caller stated that the convection fan for the unit seems to be blowing these particles when the unit is in use. Caller is worried about her health. She spoke to a Gastroenterologists who advised her to get some testing done because this incident may have caused harm.
(10/20/17)The retailer was contacted and they apologized for the incident and informed her that her option would be to return it for an exchange but that she would no longer have the evidence of the problem. The manufacturer was not contacted as yet.

The product, in the report: Whirpool free standing electric range
On Tuesday October 24, 2017 I had a fire at my home which was apparently caused by a faulty whirlpool electric stove. Approximately 2 weeks prior I noticed that the top right eye was on but the stove was not in uses. I took me 3-4 times to turn the switch on and off to finally get the eye turned off. Then on another occasion I was sitting in my nook which is adjacent to the kitchen where the stove was located and my wife asked me if I had turned on the cooking eye to the right front of the stove. I told her I didn’t and I turned the switch on then off and the stove went off. Then on Tuesday October 24, 2017 I was in another room and smelled something cooking or burning. I walked toward the kitchen and observed a pot on the stove in flames. I immediately went to the stove pushed the pot off the left eye then attempted to shut it off but it was in an off position. I then reached down to the plug and pulled it out of the wall outlet. The fire resulted in the local fire department to respond and subsequently put out the fire. My family and I did not received and injuries other than minor smoke inhalation. I have searched the internet for other instances similar and found a few in which whirlpool stoves have come on by themselves

This Range has gotten so hot that all of the drip pans and all underneath have gotten so hot that they are all now a metallic bluish, gold red color, with no way to every get it off. Also when you have one burner on the whole top of stove is extremely hot. The other day I had the left front burner on only and the other front burner was so hot you could’t put your hand on it. The burner controls are very erratic, meaning 1 time you use it till the next, it’s rarely the same.

The product, in the report: Freestanding Range White
My Whirlpool range model #FC310S0 SERIAL NUMBER R20914201began acting weird about 2 years after I moved into my new (never lived-in) home in 2013--range was already installed. One of the front burners began heating up bright red when it control was on low and no heat when it was on high. The top of the range was also extremely hot when the oven was on to the point where pots that were on top would be hot without burners turned on. A few days ago the range stopped working entirely except that the digital time was still visible. After communicating with others in my neighborhood, who had the same range -- we all did as it was a new neighborhood, same builder-- quite a few other (6, I know of) homeowners had experienced the same issue. Wiring was burned and corroded. One homeowner had her stove top ignite. This is obviously a malfunction in the stove/range.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool Electric Double Oven Induction Range
I purchased a whirlpool induction double oven range in December 2014. In March 2016 my stove made a loud pop and smoke came out the back vent. It gave me error codes EC0021,E0300 and M0430. I could not use the range top or oven. It took over a month to fix it. Then in August 2017 the range top started changing the burner settings. I would turn it down and it would go to the highest setting. The stove top is touch controlled. It gave me a f40 code which was to call customer service. Then the oven stopped working totally. I have not been able to use it since 8/24/2017. I have since found Whirlpool has stopped manufacturing this stove. the stove is 3 years old and not useable. To fix it will cost over 1000.00. I think Whirlpool should have to make some type of assistance to purchase a new stove or replace it totally. Appliance repair tech said it is a design flaw because the computer control module is place between the ovens and stovetop which the heat burns up computer and destroys it. He said it will continue to do this because of where it is located.

I was making dinner last night on my whirlpool smoothtop electric stove. We bought it brand new in late 2011 or early 2012. I was smelling something burning and thought I had missed something on the cooktop. As I was making dinner I noticed the food was not getting very warm. I pulled out the bottom drawer and inspected the plug in. Everything looked ok. I then went downstairs to the basement and checked the breaker and everything was ok. I tried turning the stovetop off and on again and still nothing. My husband pulled out the stove to inspect the cord from the back side. We heard a loud pop and smoke started coming from the stove. We have a really tight kitchen so he needed to pull it out a little further to be able to see it. It sparked a second time and tripped the breaker. When we were able to look at it, the range cord had shorted out and caught fire.

The glass door of my Whirlpool electric range exploded and threw shattered glass all over the kitchen floor. The range had not been used for 4 days nor the oven. Having talked with the Safety team at Headquarters in Benton Harbor, MI, I was told they could not do anything about it. It is at my expense to have it repaired. The range is 23 years old and NEVER have had anything go wrong with it until now. I am concerned as to the safety of the tempered glass oven doors because I was told this can happen at any time without any reason. I have small great-grandchildren frequently and what if this would have happened when they were here? Consumers need to know about this.

I had just begun to prepare dinner on 3/13/2017 and had preheated my oven to 375 degrees. It had just beeped alerting that preheat was complete. I opened the door, placed a cookie sheet with meat inside and closed the door. No more than 1 minute later, a loud explosion noise came from the kitchen. I ran to the kitchen to see what had happened - the inside glass panel of my oven had shattered all over the inside of the oven. When I opened the door, glass broke off and fell out all around the stove. I immediately turned off the oven and left the door cracked for cooling.
This is a WIRLPOOL STOVE MODEL NO: WFE510S0AS0 SERIAL NO: R40415073
I have read the online reports that talk about user error but I am 110% positive that is NOT the case here. It is just my husband and me, no kids at home and I am the ONLY one who uses that stove. I am very careful with my property and know that nothing could have been done to damage that glass in the slightest. My husband and our boys work at an automotive glass factory so I am WELL aware of the micro-flaws that are allowed to pass inspection.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool Electric Range-Stovetop and Oven
I am writing to inform you that our Whirlpool electric range is a safety hazard. I would like to know if our model # WFE710HOASO has been recalled. If it hasn’t, I believe it should be. The range was new when we purchased our home in April 2014. In June of 2015, we reported an oven fire to Whirlpool due to the lower heating element bursting into flames. I was fortunate to be standing by my range at the time so I quickly turned off the oven and the electricity from the circuit breaker. On March 1, I began preheating my oven on the bake setting. . I soon smelled a “hot” odor coming from the oven even though there was no food in it. I looked in and found the broiler was on. I made no mistake when I turned on my oven, I turned it to the bake setting, as I had done regularly for 3 years. I immediately turned off the oven and waited for a few minutes and then set it to bake at 350 degrees a second time and the same thing happened (went to broil). The danger is that the temperature the oven reaches on broil with the oven door closed is extremely hot. When someone isn’t aware that the oven is even close to this temperature (because it was set to 350) this is a dangerous situation and a hazard! In addition to this new problem, the heating elements on the stove top do not regulate properly and have been malfunctioning for over a year. The heating elements can become extremely hot without changing the setting on the stovetop. An example of this is three nights ago we had some soup on the stove keeping warm on the lowest setting while we ate. The soup was on the stove on the lowest setting for about 10 minutes when suddenly it began to boil rapidly. I removed it from the heat and singed my arm on the very hot burner- this has happened monthly since the heating element fire in June 2015. This should never happen on a low setting without touching the dial!

I had to buy a new Whirlpool Built-In Single Electric Oven, Model #RBS305PDB, to replace the existing inoperative Whirlpool Built-In oven. This oven has 1) AccuBake Advanced Temperature Management System 2) Self-Cleaning Oven with Auto Self-Clean Latch 3) EZ-Touch 300 Electronic Controls with Control Lockout and 4) Large Oven Window
I have noticed two major issues:
1) Selected temperature (oven had been temp calibrated) does not produce the expected results. Therefore, we had to adjust the temperature different than a recipe recommended.
2) The biggest and most dangerous & serious issues of this oven is the Self-Cleaning/ Lockout Latch feature. a. When using the Self-Cleaning feature the surrounding cabinets & counter area became extremely hot to the point where I could not touch them.
b. The ovens interior glass oven window cracked after using this Self-Cleaning feature. I followed the directions of use for Self-Cleaning. Now I have a broken, fairly new built-in oven.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool micro/wall oven combo unit model# mmw7530wdw01. 30” wide. white in color
We purchased a Whirlpool micro/oven wall unit 10/2011 to complete a kitchen remodel. Model mmw7530wdw01. The baking oven was used very little. Upon selecting the oven clean mode and walking away....suddenly, minutes later the outer oven door glass exploded. This occurred 8/8/16. I’ve tried unsuccessfully to locate a replacement part for this $2300.00 boat anchor I currently have sitting in my garage to no avail and now I recently found out they no longer supply the part that I had ordered. At first I was told that the Whirlpool warehouse was out of stock and that the projected delivery date was 10/13/16; I called the parts dealer and was then told to expect it around 12/31/16. Again, I called back after Jan.1 and was told that the part was no longer available? I am currently waiting on a refund from the parts dealer. After numerous checks online, I see that every other part for this unit is available along with a glass replacement for a unit that came in black and in stainless steel but No glass is available for the micro/oven they manufactured in white! Not only will I boycott ALL Whirlpool appliances but I am currently speaking with an attorney that is willing to file a class action regarding their defective product as soon as a list of possible plaintiffs is complied. I think that it is utterly ridiculous that a company as large as Whirlpool can suspend parts that have had a problem with breakage throughout the country and I’m sure abroad and have not been required to have a recall on these defective items or at least make the replacement/repair part available. Thank You.

The product, in the report: 30” STAINLESS STEEL ELECTRIC SMOOTHTOP RANGE - CONVECTION WITH AQUA CLEAN
While preparing my Thanksgiving meal and heating precooked items, my sister and her husband who were assisting me in the kitchen called me from the back and stated that there appeared to be fire or something blazing up from the left side of the bottom of the oven under the bottom panel. I opened the door to find that there was a small fire present for which I used baking soda to smother the blaze. I later realized that the oven was no longer heating from the bottom, only the top element was working. I called whirlpool on Monday to discuss this matter, informing them that this was my third whirlpool oven I have purchased new, and I have never had a problem with an element before. I asked if there had been a problem with this model and the heating elements, she stated no and said there was no warranty on the part. She also recommended that I call a service person to come out and check the oven for cost. It was only after searching the web did I realize that a similar incident involving this same model, purchased from the same company (Lowes,) had occurred and it would be wise to complete a report as well.

The product, in the report: Oven Range
11/13/2016 - The consumer was trying to use the oven however it kept tripping the circuit breaker. The first time the circuit breaker tripped was approximately ten minutes after the oven was turned on, then approximately five minutes later, and ultimately immediately after it was turned on. The consumer placed insulation between the electrical wiring and the metal panel and the unit is working properly so far.
11/14/2016 - The consumer contacted the Manufacturer and explained the situation. The representative he spoke to informed him that somebody would contact him with information.
The consumer indicates that he uses the oven approximately two to three times per week. The consumer indicates that approximately a year ago he experienced the same issue with his unit; the consumer states that he personally and temporarily corrected the issue. The consumer believes that the removable metal panel that covers the electrical wiring inside the unit is the issue since they are too close and no insulation is between them, thus causing sparks to occur.
The consumer plans on keeping his oven range for at least the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

The product, in the report: whirlpool Range/Oven Mod: WFE710H0AS0 Ser: R40710962
We had a whirlpool range replaced in our house because the previous whirlpool product was catching fire back in 2014. The range/oven was put into the house in 2014. We went to cook something in the oven this evening and a very strong chemical smell started to spread throughout the home/kitchen. We opened the door to the oven, and the smoke alarms immediately went off and the chemical smell was intense and there was a noticeable liquid bubbling around the bottom of the range glass window on the inside. My husband touched the outside of the oven with a leg and came away with potential burn. The entire outside of the oven door was hot to touch and could possible give 2nd to 3rd degree burns to our children. The inside part of the glass window is now removable and at any moment if the oven door is opened will fault out and shatter. I have called whirlpool and spoke about this issue, I was told it was outside the warranty timeframe and would need to pay for a repairman to take a look. It is a full/complex safety issue, as we are concerned that a child or an adult can obtain burns from the outside of the oven as well the possibility of the glass window shattering. Additionally, we are unsure of the potential harmful effects of the chemical now burning in the oven for our children.

Whirlpool glass top range. When the large burner is used for a period of time (15 to 20 minutes) the front edge and entire right side of the cook top gets extremely hot. Hot enough to burn someone. A small child could be seriously burned. Whirlpool says this is normal and it is how the unit works. They claim the edges can reach 170 degrees. I do not believe this is safe.

The inside glass in our Whirlpool range door just exploded after cooking. We have a WFE540H0ES that we purchased last year (within warranty, but I haven’t contacted Whirlpool yet). I was not home at the time, but here is what happened according to my wife:
1. Baked a pizza at 500 degrees for 30 minutes. 2. Cooled the oven down to 425 degrees. 3. Cooked another pizza for 15 minutes. 4. Turned the oven off.
Ten minutes after turning the oven off, after the food had been removed, and while the door was closed, the inside pane of glass shattered and fell into the storage drawer with some falling out onto the floor.

08/15/2015 (Approximately) - The consumer indicates that the cooktop had been used. Several hours later she noticed that the igniter to the left and back burner was on because of the ticking noise coming from it.
The consumer unplugged and plugged the unit back and the same ticking noise from the same burner came back on. After several days, the unit seemed to be working properly.
12/15/2015 (Approximate) - The consumer indicates that her husband had used the cooktop. A couple of hours later, the right and front burner came on by itself.
12/25/2015 (Approximately) - The consumer contacted her third-party warranty company, American Home Shield, and explained the situation. When the insurance company sent over a Service Technician from Magic Appliances, they refused to repair it citing water damage.
01/10/2016 (Approximate) - After further inspection from another firm that American Home Shield sent over (Active Appliances), they let the warranty company know that the damage was not due to misuse of the unit so a repair was agreed upon. The Electrician also informed the consumer that this is a known problem with cooktops.
01/15/2016 (Approximate) - A Service Technician from Magic Appliances repaired the unit.
The consumer indicates that she uses her cooktop approximately five times daily.
The consumer believes this product poses a safety hazard.
The consumer plans on keeping the unit in case an investigation ensues.

The product, in the report: Microwave Oven combination, built in.
The oven portion of our microwave/oven combination was being used to cook a pizza. The oven was preheated to 375 prior to the pizza being put in the oven. Once the oven preheated, the pizza was put in and the timer set for 21 minutes. Prior to the timer going off, approximately 15 minutes into the cooking of the pizza, the oven beeped once. The oven was checked and the control panel showed F2, possibly also had additional numerals or lettering, but I do not remember. At that point the oven door was locked, all of the “off” buttons available on the touch pad were hit several times each, all to no effect of the operation of the oven. After looking into the oven, we noticed that the top broiler element was on and the oven was getting very hot. We had to turn off the breaker to stop the operation of the oven. The oven remained locked, with the power still off. The following morning we turned the breaker back to the on position. The oven showed PF on the screen and the oven became unlocked. I pushed the off button to clear the PF, it then showed the time as 5:10. As I was removing the burnt pizza from the oven, I noticed heat from the top broiler element. I removed the pizza, looked back into the oven and noticed the top broiler element getting “red” hot. I went back and turned the breaker panel to the oven off.

The consumer stated that on 1/4/16 he was pulling the rack out of the oven to take a pot out. The pot slid out and fell. It made a mess over the floor and burnt the consumer. The consumer received a minor burn on his left wrist and left forearm.
The consumer contacted the firm in regards to the incident. They informed him that this is the way their oven is designed. They informed him that they will pass the complaint over to the appropriate department.
The consumer has noticed this issue with the racks since purchase.
The consumer noted rack does not have a protective safety lip, and pot-pan-etc. slide off the outer edge causing spills and burns. The consumer also noted the smooth edge is very slippery and dangerous.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool Wall Double Oven
Our Double Oven turned on by itself. And stayed on for 5 days continuously. Situation: When we returned from an 8 day vacation on June 17 at 11 PM, we discovered the house was hot (87 deg) and had a burnt smell. We discovered the top oven in our double oven was on and the door was locked as if it were in self clean mode. None of the controls worked - we were unable to turn it off, except by the circuit breaker. Even after the power was removed the door would not unlock. When we checked our recent electric bill, it showed very high electrical usage for June 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17 so we believe the oven must have been on for 5 days. When I complained to Whirlpool, they sent a technician who was able to unlock the door and found one element burnt through and a bad control panel. Since the control panel parts were no longer available, the oven cannot be repaired.
We feel lucky that there was not more serious damage - like a house fire.

I was cooking corn on the cob in water on y electric cooktop stove. The water had come to a boil and I added the corn to the pot. after it had been cooking for a few minutes I went to check on it and touched my finger pads to the cooktop surface (not the burned eye). The cooktop had heated up enough to give my 2nd degree burns on 2 figure and started warping the cooktop itself. The pot was slightly larger than the burner itself so I can only imagine the heat was transferred from the pot, but it still seems like the design should have allowed for more space between the top of stove and pot or pan.

The consumer stated that the inner glass on the top oven door exploded while the unit was in the clean cycle. The consumer stated that the glass exploded about 2.5 hours into the clean cycle (clean cycle is 4 hours long).
The consumer stated that the glass exploded all over the kitchen floor, counters, bottom oven and the inside of the top oven. The consumer stated that her wood flooring in the kitchen where the hot glass fell has melted. The floor has bubbles on them. The consumer contacted the supervisor, [REDACTED], with K.B. Builders. He provided the consumer with contact # for the manf. The consumer contacted the manf and explained the incident to a representative. The representative informed her that they will send out a local technician to replace the glass in the top oven door. The consumer asked to have the whole door replaced and not just the glass. He informed her that they only replace glass under warranty.
A technician was supposed to come out on 4/28/15. The technician did not show up due to address issues. The appointment is rescheduled for 4/30/15.
The consumer spoke to a safety person, [REDACTED], with Whirlpool. She informed her that these things happen but rarely. she informed her that the glass could have been damaged while building the unit. The consumer was informed that it was tempered glass and it could possibly break.
The consumer stated that if someone was near by the unit, the hot glass could have severely injured someone. The consumer believes that the manf at least should warn customers that the glass can explode in the clean cycle.
The consumer stated that she is unable to look up the model #/serial # of the unit because she is unable to open the door to the oven. The consumer stated that if she opens it, all the glass would fall out. She will provide that information at a later time
The consumer added the oven was brand new and installed November 2014

I Am Well Aware of the dangers of toxic fumes and birds. I have had birds my whole life as well as ovens and I have NEVER had this problem. I DO NOT use the “Self Cleaning” option being aware of the dangers in the provided manual. However, my dispute is with THE DANGERS UNDER NORMAL USE 425-550 degrees. At these temperatures, my pet birds are dead, the oven liner is disintegrating and I have had a persistent cough. AND NOW MY QUESTION FOR YOU IS : Because this oven will kill birds at temperatures between 425-550 and I’m coughing because of the use of this oven, what is every family with an oven being exposed to !? July 9, 2014 ~ Bought an Electric Whirlpool Oven/Microwave wall unit from Home Depot. (all new electric appliances) September 2015 ~ Kitchen Remodel completed and oven installed in September Jan 2015 – Called Whirlpool to tell them the liner in the oven was warping, they said it was fine March 14 2015 ~ pre-cooked pizza crust using oven at 425 for about 3 hours then my Male Hahns Macaw ([REDACTED] ) died quickly , two rooms away from the kitchen. March 28 2015 ~ Called Whirlpool to ask how to clean the oven without using the self cleaning option (because we have birds) , they said use baking soda and water. So, I did that. The Oven lining still looks bad. March 30 2015 ~ Using the oven on Broil (550) making baked sweet potatoes and after about and hour and a half my Female Hahns Macaw died. My Sun [REDACTED] fell to the bottom of her cage and I quickly grab her and brought her into the kitchen to grab the phone to call a vet. [REDACTED] died within minutes of bringing her into the kitchen. I then ran into the bird room to get my friends parakeet we were watching. The parakeet was still perching when I grabbed its cage. I brought it into the kitchen (not knowing it was the oven) and within minutes fell to the bottom of its cage. It died within minutes. We had the City come to our home and check the water and found no bacteria in our water. March 31, 2015 ~ Took [REDACTED] in to The Animal Health Department for a Necropsy. LabServices VDACS (LabServices.VDACS@vdacs.virginia.gov) Preliminary Client Report for Accession Number: L1516742. Case Coordinator: [REDACTED] . Together Dr. [REDACTED] and I discovered the cause to be toxic fumes. After accessing everything we could think of, we determined it was possibly a Teflon baking sheet used in the oven. We don’t use Teflon cooktop pans because I know the reports are bad for birds but I never considered a cookie sheet before now SO, I thew it out. April 8 2015 ~ We got 3 new green cheek conures April 10 2015 ~ Making Pizza again for our daughters Birthday Party. Prebaking crust at 425 rotating crusts for about 3 hours. I noticed I have started coughing. When our guests started showing up we took them into the bird room to meet the new birds and one of the birds was on the floor in the same near death parallelized symptomatic position I had seen the other birds. I grabbed it off the floor and called the Emergency vet. Many of us there knew were had been trying to figure out this mystery and at that moment some of us finally put it all together. “THE OVEN ! The Oven !” we yelled. The kids rushed the other two birds outside. My friend drove me with the dying conure to the vet. I didn’t think the bird would make it. The emergency vet put the bird on oxygen for 24 hours and the bird was alive and well the next day. DR. [REDACTED] at Animal Emergency & Critical Care [REDACTED] April 13, 2015 ~ Called Whirlpool and they were convinced it was Carbon Monoxide even after I told them we have a carbon monoxide detector and all our appliances are electric. Nonetheless, I called the FireDept and we turned the oven on Broil for over 30 minutes, They found No Carbon Monoxide in the air and filed their report with the Lynchburg Fire Marshall. Called Whirlpool again and even though the Oven is still under warranty they still refused to do anything with our complaint. Trying to find help and called: The Lynchburg Health Department Attorney General Consumer Health Line Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) [REDACTED] called from the Animal Health Dept and told me to find a lab to test for PFOA or PFOS “Per floral Octanic acid” and test for “liquid chromatography mass spectrum” Found the LAB to test for PFOA in Georgia ~ [REDACTED] , Business Development & Project Manager, Applied Technical Services, Inc. 1049 Triad CourtMarietta, GA 30062 Direct: 678-444-2965 [REDACTED] in Toxicology called (the Virginia Health Lab). He said he could check the air results from PFOA (1-804-864-8127) He told me to call the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Called The CPSC and spoke with [REDACTED] with whom I am filing my report. April 20, 2015 ~ I am still coughing.

The product, in the report: Whirpool electric range. Convection and Conventional oven. Slide in model
We received a new Whirlpool range in June/July in 2014 as part of a kitchen rehab in working with a Kitchen and Bath firm. In October of 2014 the oven unexpectedly got extremely hot (could not touch any part of the oven), and completely burnt a pizza to 100% black, while it was in the oven less than 10 minutes. The oven stopped working. Black smoke billowed out of the oven, all smoke alarms went off, and our eyes were burning from what seemed like a chemical and awful smell. Contacted Whirlpool who seemed very unconcerned that this situation was a potential fire hazard, and contacted their contracting company that handles their repairs. No use of oven for over 2 weeks while we waited. Repair service came, couldn’t fix it, ordered a new part. They replaced the part, and the oven seemed to work okay.
Now in March of 2015, just 5 months later it did the exact same thing again. Cooking a pizza, and within 10 minutes it was burnt 100% black, horrible black smoke billowing out of the over, smoke alarms going off, oven so hot you couldn’t touch any part of it, and the oven shut down with a digital message. Contacted Whirlpool again. Again, no concern of the potential of a fire hazard. You would have thought I called because a knob broke. They contacted their repair service again, they came out, and again could not fix it, and had to order a part. We are now waiting for the part to come in (and and again no use of an oven for who knows how long, and Whirlpool never said they are sorry for the inconvenienced or any type of atonement.
I am reporting this, because I am shocked this oven has done this twice, and am very concerned this range will continue to be a safety hazard and could potentially catch on fire.
