The product, in the report: Whirlpool electric freestanding range/oven, model WEE730H0DS0, approximately 12 years old.
During normal use of my Whirlpool WEE730H0DS0 electric range, the oven was being preheated to approximately 300F. The oven had been operating normally when it suddenly began producing visible electrical sparks/arcing from the lower right side of the oven cavity. The sparking was followed by an internal fire. The oven was immediately turned off and removed from service. After the appliance cooled, I inspected the oven and found severe damage to the concealed bake heating element. The bake element had burned/melted in multiple locations, and there was extensive charring and heat damage around the element. The oven floor was burned/melted completely through in one area. The range is approximately 12 years old and had been used for normal household cooking. There had been no modifications to the appliance. The wiring behind the range was inspected after the incident and did not show an obvious failure. No injuries occurred. The incident presented a significant fire hazard and could have resulted in a house fire or serious injury if the appliance had not been shut down. The appliance and failed heating element have been preserved, and photographs of the damage and the model/serial label are available.

The product, in the report: Black whirlpool range, electric
While turning on the right front burner of the stovetop, I heard some electrical noise. I didnt think too much of it, I sat my pan of cabbage on medium-low heat and walked away since it takes a while to get steamy. I smelled something from the living room, went into the kitchen to discover the burner was screaming red hot and not shutting off, sizzling my cabbage on ultra high heat. It has happened before, and seems intermittent. But....
This had also occured on the left front side burner of the stove (as shown in video), which we just stopped using all together. No matter what temperature the knob is set to, the burner will turn on and glow bright red.
This is a fire hazard, and the stove is only 3 years old. People dont always constantly hover over there stove when they leave something to gently simmer. This could burn down someones house.

Whirlpool tries to classify this as a wear and tear part, but this sudden failure can lead to burns requiring emergency room and at worse case, someone’s house burning down.
There is no safety off mechanism once the burner overheats, it just welds itself permanently on high heat until the knob is turned off.
What if I’d left the house to walk my dog while I left something to gently simmer on the stove and this happened? I frequently make chicken bone broth, and I don’t stand in the kitchen for 4 hours watching it.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool double electric oven, stainless steel with touchscreen
I am formally reporting a serious and potentially dangerous malfunction involving the Whirlpool double wall oven that was installed as an original appliance in our home. We are the first owners of the home. Our oven is now activating cooking controls and setting a cooking temperature on its own, without anyone touching or operating the control panel. We have video documentation showing this behavior occurring spontaneously.
Even more concerning, we now realize that there was an earlier incident that may have been related to this malfunction. Our teenage son used the oven to cook something in the evening and turned the oven off when he finished, as he normally does. The following morning, we discovered that the oven was still on. At the time, we did not understand why this had happened. We initially treated it as an isolated incident. Now that we have personally observed and recorded the oven operating its controls and setting a temperature without anyone touching it, that earlier incident is extremely concerning. We cannot determine whether the oven failed to shut off after our son turned it off or whether it subsequently turned itself back on. Either scenario represents a serious safety issue. This is a built-in high-voltage cooking appliance capable of generating significant heat. An oven that may remain on or activate cooking functions without user input creates a potential fire and household safety hazard, particularly when occupants are sleeping or the home is unattended. We are therefore no longer comfortable leaving this appliance energized. I am requesting that Whirlpool: Open this as a formal product safety complaint involving unintended oven operation/heating. Immediately escalate the case to the appropriate Consumer Safety/Product Safety team. Document both the current video-recorded autonomous control activity and the prior overnight incident. Investigate whether Whirlpool has received other reports involving unintended activation, failure to shut down, touchscreen ghost inputs, or control-system failures involving this oven/control platform. Arrange for an authorized Whirlpool technician to inspect the appliance. Provide a permanent safety resolution. Given the nature of this malfunction, I do not consider resetting the appliance or routine troubleshooting alone an adequate resolution unless Whirlpool can establish that the appliance is safe. Advise us in writing whether Whirlpool recommends that the appliances circuit breaker remain OFF until the unit has been inspected and the safety issue resolved. We have retained the original video documenting the oven operating its controls without user input and will provide it to Whirlpool as evidence of the malfunction. We have also attempted to locate the model and serial number. We inspected the accessible areas around both oven cavities and found only electrical/safety warning labels. Because this is a built-in appliance experiencing an apparent electrical/control malfunction, we will not pull a high-voltage appliance out of the cabinetry ourselves merely to locate an identification plate. Whirlpool or its authorized technician can assist with identification if necessary. This situation is particularly disturbing because we had already experienced an overnight incident before we understood that the appliance was capable of operating without user input. Had something combustible been left in or near the oven, the consequences could have been significantly more serious. Please provide: A Whirlpool case/reference number for this product safety report. Confirmation that the matter has been escalated as a safety complaint, rather than an ordinary service request. Whirlpools immediate instructions regarding whether the appliance should remain electrically disconnected. Whirlpools proposed permanent resolution. We are requesting prompt action. We do not believe an oven demonstrating autonomous operation can reasonably be considered safe for continued normal use.

The product, in the report: 36” Kitchenaid 5-burner induction cooktop Stainless Steel Model: KICU569XSS
On 22Aug2026, between between 2145-2230 CST our Kitchenaid cooktop model KICU569XSS made a very loud pop and something caught fire within the unit as smoke was flowing rapidly out from under the cabinet. We did not see any visible flames but could definitely tell something was burning based on the amount of smoke coming from under the cabinet where the cooktop was located. Luckily, we were home when it happened and the GFCI circuit breaker tripped which helped keep it at bay otherwise it is very possible it would have caught the kitchen on fire. I am working to try to get in touch with the right person at Kitchenaid at this time but they do not make it very easy to contact a human.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool 30-inch Single Self-Cleaning Electric Wall Oven, Model WOES3030LS. Built-in electric wall oven with a 5.0 cubic foot capacity. Stainless steel finish with a black tempered glass oven door and electronic touch controls. The oven includes a built-in self-cleaning function and is intended for residential home use for baking, roasting, broiling, and self-cleaning.
I am reporting a safety incident involving a Whirlpool 30-inch single wall oven (Model WOES3030LS). The oven was operating its built-in self-cleaning cycle according to the manufacturer’s instructions when the glass in the oven door suddenly shattered. The door had not been struck, damaged, or exposed to any unusual conditions before the incident. The oven was being used only for its intended purpose.
At the time of the incident, I was at home, and fortunately no one was standing directly in front of the oven when the glass shattered. No injuries occurred, but the broken glass created a potential laceration hazard, and the oven is no longer safe to use until it is repaired.
Because the glass failed during normal operation of the self-clean cycle, I am reporting this incident so it can be reviewed as a potential product safety issue. I have photographs of the damage and can provide additional information if needed.

Hurt, no treatment Made Jul 15, 2026, sent to the company Jul 20, 2026, published by CPSC Aug 3, 2026
The product, in the report: Whirlpool built-in single-wall electric oven, model WOES3030S01, with a black-and-blue porcelain enamel interior and removable metal oven racks.
Consumer Product Safety Concern - Whirlpool Single Wall Oven Model WOES3030S01
Whirlpool Case Number [REDACTED]
The upper oven rack binds inside the oven cavity when the oven is cold and when it is heated. Removing or repositioning the rack requires substantial two-handed force instead of normal controlled movement.
The condition is more dangerous when the oven is heated. The user must pull forcefully while standing directly in front of the hot oven cavity, hot rack, cookware, and food. The rack may suddenly release from the point where it is binding. This abrupt movement can cause cookware and food to shift or spill.
Because the rack is extremely difficult to pull forward, members of our household must reach farther into the heated oven cavity to remove, turn, check, or reposition cooking items. This places the hands, arms, and upper body closer to hot racks, cookware, oven walls, food, and steam.
Members of our household have suffered multiple burns during normal use of the oven.
Whirlpool documented visible scratches along the upper interior rack grooves and replaced the oven racks. The replacement racks did not correct the binding, excessive resistance, or scraping. The racks continue to leave visible scratches in the porcelain enamel finish.
Because the upper rack cannot be moved safely or normally, we are effectively forced to cook all food in the lower one-third of this new built-in oven. This substantially reduces the usable cooking area and prevents normal use of the oven.
Whirlpool continues to describe the oven as functional despite the documented scratches, unsuccessful rack replacement, excessive force required to move the rack, restricted use of the oven cavity, sudden movement of cookware and food, and multiple burn incidents.
The safety concern is that normal use requires substantial force near hot surfaces, causes users to reach farther into the heated oven, and creates a risk of sudden rack movement, displaced cookware, spilled food, and burns.

No one hurt Made Jul 13, 2026, sent to the company Jul 16, 2026, published by CPSC Jul 30, 2026
The product, in the report: Whirlpool Model WEE750H0HZ1, 30-inch smart slide-in electric range with 6.4 cu. ft. oven, true convection and 5 radiant elements including a triple-tier element, Color is Stainless Steel, Dimensions are 36H x 29.875W x 28.625D
On July 2, 2026, I contacted Whirlpool’s Product Safety Department to report a product safety incident involving my Whirlpool electric slide-in range (Model WEE750H0HZ1, Serial RX1023934). I reported that on June 19, 2026, at approximately 9:30 a.m., while no one was using the appliance, my husband and I heard what sounded like a small “pop” coming from the kitchen. Initially, I believed one of our cats had knocked something over. When I entered the kitchen, I did not immediately observe the source of the noise, but I smelled something burning. After looking around the kitchen, I discovered that a butane torch resting on the cooktop had melted and was actively burning with flames on or adjacent to the rear-right surface burner. I extinguished the fire using a fire blanket. During the process, I experienced minor irritation to my hand from fiberglass fibers in the blanket but did not sustain any burn injuries. I advised Whirlpool that the burner control knob for the rear-right element was in the OFF position and that neither my husband nor I had turned on the burner. The cooktop had not been used for approximately one week before the incident. I also advised Whirlpool that my husband captured thermal imaging video immediately after the incident, showing the rear-right cooking zone remaining hot while the control knobs were in the OFF position. The hot surface indicator was illuminated in the video after the fire had been extinguished, although I could not state with certainty whether it was illuminated during the fire itself. As a precaution, I informed Whirlpool that I had unplugged the range immediately after the incident and had left it disconnected because I believed continued operation could present a safety hazard. Whirlpool opened a Product Safety investigation ([REDACTED]), instructed me to leave the appliance disconnected and not attempt to use or test it, and scheduled an inspection by an authorized Whirlpool service provider at no charge. The representative also provided the direct Product Safety telephone number for future communications and instructed me to contact the Product Safety Department rather than the general customer service line regarding this incident. The appliance remained preserved in its post-incident condition pending Whirlpool’s investigation. Following my initial report to Whirlpool on July 2, 2026, Whirlpool assigned the matter to its Product Safety Department under Case No. [REDACTED] and arranged for an inspection of the appliance by an authorized Whirlpool service technician. On July 7, 2026, the authorized Whirlpool technician inspected the range at my residence while the appliance remained disconnected from electrical power, consistent with Whirlpool’s instruction to leave the unit out of service pending investigation. After completing the inspection, the technician left a voicemail advising that the inspection had been completed and providing follow-up information regarding the visit. The appliance has remained preserved following the inspection. I am submitting this report to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission so that the incident is independently documented while Whirlpool’s investigation proceeds.

The product, in the report: Electric Stove
On June 28th, she was preparing to bake a cake and had already preheated the oven. Shortly thereafter, she noticed an unusual smell. She inspected the stove but did not observe anything out of the ordinary. Moments later, smoke began to come out of the appliance. She immediately turned off the breaker switch, and with her husband’s assistance, removed the stove from the house. Upon examination, they discovered that the back panel of the stove had melted and the internal wiring had burned. The stove was in near-new condition. Fortunately, no property damage occurred and no one was injured. She is requesting that the company conduct a thorough investigation to ensure that their appliances do not pose a danger to consumers. She has photographs documenting the damage. She is certain that if she had stepped away, the stove could have caused a fire capable of burning down her home.
I was going to bake a cake, I preheated by stove to 350 I smelled something hot. I opened oven did not smell anything. Turned off the oven. Turned the oven to preheat again to rapid preheat to 350, I was greasing my cake pans smelled as electric fire, turned around and heavy smoke was coming out of my stove below the back of stove up my wall and around front of dials, my husband was not here. With 1 pull I had my stove pulled out, very heavy smoke below dials + up back of stove at wall. Sutt all over stove. I ran to breaker box turned off, + unplugged stove. The stove was at 130 preheat when this happened. Sutt all over stove, I believe within my heart if I would have walked off to let my stove preheat to 350 I totally believe it would have burnt my house to the ground with the amount of smoke and sutt I had in my house. My whole house smelled with a electric fire!!! I have sent pictures. My Whirlpool stove may have been 8 years old but it still was very well tooken care of + still almost looked brand new. I want to know what caused this this would have burnt my house to the ground if I had of walked off. I was alone when this happened + have sent many pictures of this stove to you + whirlpool, please, please find out what caused this, before it kills someone or causes some one to loose everything they own. Hate to think I cannot trust America made !!!!!!

No one hurt Made Jul 8, 2026, sent to the company Jul 13, 2026, published by CPSC Jul 27, 2026
The product, in the report: It is a Whirlpool Double Wall oven.
What happened that made you want to report? I purchased a Whirlpool WOED5030LZ01 built-in double wall oven. Although the oven is level, the oven racks are not level when fully inserted and tilt further forward when extended. This causes cookware and baking pans to slide toward the front of the oven during normal use. I reported the issue to Whirlpool, provided photographs and videos, and an authorized service technician inspected the oven. Whirlpool reviewed the technician’s report, photographs, and videos but determined that the appliance is operating within specification and as designed. What type of product(s) were being used? Built-in electric double wall oven (Whirlpool model WOED5030LZ01) with standard oven racks. Who was using the product(s)? An adult homeowner during normal household cooking. How were the product(s) being used? The oven was being used for normal cooking and baking. Cookware and baking pans were placed on the oven rack, and the rack was extended in the normal manner to check or remove food. As the rack was pulled out, it tilted forward, allowing cookware and pans to slide toward the front of the oven. Were there any injuries that happened or may have happened while using the product? No injury has occurred to date. However, I believe the condition presents a potential burn hazard because cookware containing hot food can slide unexpectedly toward the front of the oven when the rack is extended. How did any injuries occur? No injuries have occurred. The potential hazard is that a person extending the oven rack during normal use could be burned if hot cookware or its contents slide forward unexpectedly due to the forward tilt of the rack.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool, 4.8 cu.ft. Electric Range, Model WEE515S0LS3, Serial# RD4537034, $828.06, power cord #35, Tax $53.94, White. Right rear burner self-ignited. All butter knobs had been set to “off” and had never been used. This appliance was purchased on 12/04/24 by seller of 2-rm. condo and was in the unit when I bought it on 4/3/25. Its purpose was for cooking but I had never used it. After the fire, Mannys Appliances in Hadley, MA took away the stove whem delivering the new one I purchased 4/22/26.
The brand new, never used Whirlpool glass top oven that was in my apartment unit when I purchased it, self ignited on 4/18. [Model WEE515S0LS3 Ser # RD4537034] The flame from the burner set a nearby dish towel on fire. As the flame grew, I called 911, and the multi-unit building was evacuated (all residents 55+). The fire department came and extinguished fire and smoldering kitchenware. I knew there had been a civil penalty imposed upon Whirlpool for self igniting stovetops (case # [REDACTED]). I called the Consum Safety Commission and was told that there had been a second recall for the same reason and that the stove in my unit was on the list. I submitted all documentation to Whirlpool including the sales receipt from the seller of condo and much more. I had this dangerous unpredictable stove removed and I purchased a new stove with regular burners. Whirlpool will not reimburse me for either stove because I could not produce the part under the stove top that was defective.

The product, in the report: 4.8 cu. ft. 4 Burner Element Single Oven Electric Range in Stainless Steel
We purchased a new Whirlpool range (model W33515S0LS3) delivered on 3/26 and used it for approximately two days. During oven use, the appliance began emitting a strong chemical odor that did not resemble a typical new appliance burn-off smell.
Both adult occupants of the home developed headaches while the unit was present in the living space. Notably, symptoms and odor persisted even when the unit was turned off, suggesting ongoing off-gassing or emission from internal components.
Due to health concerns, we removed the appliance from the home and placed it in the garage. The manufacturer has requested that we reinstall the unit indoors for troubleshooting, which we believe may pose a health risk.
We are reporting this as a potential product safety issue involving chemical emissions and adverse health effects.

A Whirlpool electric oven experienced a failure that created a potential safety hazard during normal household use.
While the oven was in use, an error message appeared stating the appliance had lost power and presented options to skip or update. Neither option functioned. The oven became locked while still powered on/heating and was not responsive to standard controls. The unit could not be turned off using normal operation methods.
The oven remained in an active powered state with no ability to shut it off through the control panel. The only way to stop operation was to manually disconnect power at the home circuit breaker.
After restoring power, the issue persisted and the oven remained locked and inoperable.
A licensed appliance technician later inspected the unit and diagnosed a failure of the main control board. The technician indicated this is an issue he has seen before and provided the part number for the failed component. The estimated cost of repair is approximately $1,000, which is comparable to the value of the appliance.
This appears to be a potential systemic defect rather than an isolated incident, as similar reports from other consumers describing the same or similar failure mode have been identified.
The primary concern is safety-related: the oven was unable to be powered down through normal controls and required disconnection at the electrical breaker, creating a situation where the appliance could not be safely shut off during failure.
No physical injuries occurred during this incident, but the failure mode created a potential risk due to loss of normal shutoff control while the appliance remained powered.
The product was a Whirlpool electric oven used in a residential kitchen setting by an adult household user during normal cooking operation.

The product, in the report: Black whirlpool flat top electric oven
The incident involved a freestanding [REDACTED] electric range oven with a glass cooktop installed in a residential kitchen. The oven was being used under normal cooking conditions to prepare food on March 6, 2026.
Shortly after the oven was turned on, a strong plastic or burning odor began coming from the appliance. Smoke developed and flames became visible inside the oven cavity. The oven was immediately turned off and a household fire extinguisher was used to control the fire while emergency services were contacted. The local fire department responded and confirmed the fire was contained.
The appliance was being used in a typical manner for food preparation and had not been modified or misused. Because the fire originated during normal operation of the oven, we are reporting the incident for product safety review.
No injuries occurred.

I purchased a Whirlpool electric stove, model Wfes5030rz, on 11/23/2025. and the stove has a guard between the oven door and the rangetop. This guard, reachable by small children, becomes hot to the touch, in excess of 175 degrees Fahrenheit when the oven is on. I believe this may be due to a vent behind the handle to the oven door, but additionally, the door is not hung on the oven compartment in a level manner. We have requested, and received two service calls, which did not cure either issue, and the manufacturer states the oven is working as designed.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool dryer Model WEE745H0LZ
We have a 2023 stove that does not offer locking on the door. Additionally, even after reaching out to whirlpool, no current child safety oven door latches work for this model. 1.) The stove is counter depth, so any lock needing to latch to the side only works by pulling out the side of the stove around 2”. When I tried this, it then counters the tip over safety latch on the bottom/back. 2.) Because the edge is rounded from the top (where the stove top knows are) to the bottom, the latches do not have a place to latch up top. It’s about a 2” difference and there’s no flat surface to actual attach it. The difference would also make it even less safe because it would open enough a child could get there fingers in and stuck. There suggestions did not work and I have spent a lot of money on different latches.
Finally, today, my 18mo old finally did get the oven open and fell. I was terrified and glad it wasn’t on.

I bought a whirlpool Whirlpool 30-in 4 burners 4.8-cu ft Freestanding Electric Range ( White ) Item #: 1957070|Model #: WFC150M0JW Part #W11027372 oven from Lowes home improvement [REDACTED] on Oct 17 2025. About a week ago my wife wanted to bake some pies and started the oven and noticed that the pies weren’t getting done in 30 minutes as usual. I walked over to look and put my hand on the top of the oven (the white part not the burner and burned my hand. This isn’t normal. I called Whirlpool today 11.21.25 after getting the runaround from Lowes and they told me they’d send out a repair person next Wednesday. I did some research and looks like their ovens have been recalled before due to what sounds like the same thing, the oven heating on the outside. https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2004/cpsc-whirlpool-announce-recall-of-cooking-products . I am worried about this oven, because this could have turned out really badly if a towel had been left on it or something flammable, the entire house could have been turned down. Whirlpool acts like it’s just another day at the office and don’t seem that concerned, but their defective product could have cost lives.

My 3 year old was reaching to get the pepper from the back ledge on the top of the stove when the door to the oven opened abruptly causing her to fall and gash her chin on the oven door. She ended up on the ground and the oven door was fully opened. She received 3 stitches. The oven does not have any way to lock the door or prevent it from opening with light pressure or light pulling. In this situation she was not pulling on it but the light pressure from her body was enough for the door to slam open.

Last night (9/22/25) I used the self clean feature on my upper Whirlpool Wall Double Oven for the first time. The oven was purchased in May 2023. The oven is touch screen, wifi connected and walks you through the steps to prepare the oven for self cleaning. It’s a 4 hour process, 3 hours of heat, followed by 1 hour of cool. Within the first hour I heard a loud pop, it sounded like a gun shot. The inner oven glass had shattered. One quick Internet search let me know this is a common problem, due to thermal pressure.

Product Involved: Whirlpool WFE540H0ES Electric Range Oven
Incident Date: 09/06/2025
Location: [REDACTED], Colorado
On the evening of 09/06/2025, I was using my Whirlpool WFE540H0ES electric range oven to bake food when a dangerous incident occurred. While the oven was operating at a regular baking temperature, I suddenly saw a bright orange flame inside the oven, accompanied by loud crackling and popping noises similar to a welding arc. Within seconds, sparks began flying throughout the interior of the oven.
The food inside was untouched and not burned, which indicates that the source of the problem came from the oven itself, not the food or any spills. While this was happening, the bottom of the oven began to melt, and a hole approximately 2 inches by 1 inch burned completely through the metal base of the oven cavity.
I immediately attempted to turn off the oven using the control panel, but the entire display panel shut down on its own, and the oven powered off suddenly. Despite the shutdown, flames continued to burn briefly inside before eventually extinguishing on their own. The fire produced heavy, acrid, chemical-smelling smoke that quickly filled the house and triggered all of our smoke detectors.
Out of caution, we switched off the breaker manually, though the circuit breaker did not trip automatically despite the severity of the incident.
While there were no burns or direct physical injuries, the heavy smoke exposure caused health issues for multiple members of the household:
Both my husband and I experienced significant respiratory irritation, resulting in frequent coughing and throat discomfort.
The strong odor and harsh fumes caused headaches for my husband and 3 year old daughter the following morning.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool Self Cleaning Electric Oven/Range 30” stainless steel with black trim, standard dimensions for oven baking and cooking on the range surface
Tenant reported heat and mild burn to hand from the left rear electric “burner” of 10 year old Whirlpool WFC340S0AS0 oven/range when it was not turned on. As owner of the condo, I scheduled visits by two appliance repair companies - the first maintained that there was no problem. They both initially reported the problem could not be replicated.. On a follow up request, at the insistence of my tenant, the second company determined, after turning on the oven for a more extended period, that “excessive” heat was coming out of a tube that was installed “as designed” (to vent the contents of the over) and was emitting heat. We surmised that baking something in the oven that “gave up” moisture would emit heat and moisture which probably accounted for what the tenant felt a couple of times earlier. The appliance rep called Whirlpool to check the “design” and concluded with the Whirlpool rep that the oven/range was assembled and operating “as designed”. I checked for recall information and found none. I have asked the tenant not to use the oven. As I have some technical and safety background in other industries, I am very skeptical about the design of the oven/range and concerned for others safety. I suspect, because my tenant lives alone, the oven/range doesn’t get as much duty as one being used by a family. But, I’m concerned that the risk would be higher for higher and more varied use.

The product, in the report: Slide- in range.
Not long after I bought a Whirlpool range, Model # WEFES333ORZO (06/22/2025), I reported this stove as dangerous. The inside of the bottom drawer (where you “pull it out”) is “unfinished” and the edges extremely sharp. My fear is for a child or someone older (with thinner skin) to pull out the drawer (a standard function of a drawer!). Tonight, I had a pan “splatter screen” fall out of the drawer and “inside” the stove. When I reached in to pull it out, I cut my wrist (drawing blood) on the edge of the back of the drawer. Had it been a sliver, bit deeper, I may well have bled to death before 911 could get here! Until tonight, I didn’t realize that ALL edges of the inside of the stove drawer (front, back, sides), are horribly sharp. This Whirlpool stove is VERY cheaply made. This is a danger to consumers and their families.

The product, in the report: Electric range
We bought a new electric Whirlpool range from Abt Electronics on 05/29/25and it was delivered to us through Whirlpool on 06/05/2025. We were baking a chicken in the oven at 400 degrees on 06/07/2025 when we noticed the cooktop was very hot-burning hot to the touch. The burners were not hot just the cooktop in between them. We reported to Abt and they referred us to Whirlpool and eventually to Whirlpool Corp. Safety where we became case # [REDACTED]. The next step was to have a technician from [REDACTED] come out to check the stove. ( Case # [REDACTED]). He came out on Friday the 13th of June and Ran bake test at 425degrees and found backsplash 139 degrees and glass top 123 degrees. Unit dangerous to touch while running. He intimated we shouldnt get a similar model replacement. Model # WFES5030RWH. Whirlpool has said they could pick it up in 3-4 weeks. Abt said we could change it out for a different range, but nothing has happened to replace our faulty unit. Of more concern is that this particular model may be dangerous, (per comments of technician) but neither Whirlpool nor Abt were concerned about the serious implication that there is a serious design flaw and that this model Whirlpool should be examined further and possibly taken off the market.

I received a new oven/stove and was told that it is normal to smell when first using as they are coated with oil and it needs to burn off. The smell did not go away and I had the company come look at it. They said it could take up to a month and to keep using. The smell did not go away, air quality was poor, windows had to be opened, and I could not be in the house. The stove was extremely hot to touch and I burned my finger turning it off. They came back out and it turned out it was not built right at the manufacturer. According to my understanding of what I was told, the heat is not escaping, the vent is in the wrong place, the inside is concave, the wires and insulation is over heating. I am being told I have to work with Whirlpool and not the company that sold it to me. I will need to replace with the same model, however I have not verified this with Whirlpool as they have not approved the return yet. They put it before the “board” to determine what to do.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool 30-in Glass Top 5-burner 5.3-cu ft Freestanding Electric Range (Fingerprint Resistant Stainless Steel)
I am writing to formally report a serious safety issue with my Whirlpool electric stove, which I purchased approximately five years ago. One of the burners has become uncontrollably hot and fails to respond to temperature adjustments, a sign commonly associated with a defective regulator switch. Upon further inspection, I discovered significant charring, melted insulation, and a second regulator switch burned beyond repair.
This constitutes a grave fire hazard, which could have led to catastrophic damage or loss of life had it not been for the protective materials in my kitchen. I have contacted both Whirlpool and Lowe’s, and I am disappointed to report that neither party has taken responsibility for this safety issue.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool Oven black and stainless steel, smooth top.
My oven turned on the broiler element, despite being in bake mode, burning my food, and nearly causing a fire. This happened on three separate occasions.
The control board, part #W11567348 is defective. It gave a F6 E1 error. I set it to bake at 350. After several minutes, it activated the broiler element, while still displaying bake and 350, and began overheating the element. As the food I was cooking needed to be in the oven for 30 minutes, and was in a paper ish container (it was a frozen lasagna, that can be baked or microwaved, so it was in that type of ‘pan’), the container had dried out and was very neat the point of catching fire when I smelled that my food was burning and checked on it. All of this happened in less than 5 minutes, so the broiler element was significantly hotter than its normal 500. I’m confident in that assessment based on how burned my lasagna was too. It was blackened in excess of of an inch thickness.
Had I not been close at hand, this very easily, and very quickly, could have turned into a kitchen fire. Upon research the error message, and the switch from bake to broil, I found this is a common nature of failure with this control panel, which is used across multiple models of oven, across multiple brands.
The fact that Whirlpool has allowed this dangerous product to remain in use for years is unconscionable.

The product, in the report: Electric Range. A freestanding electric range with an oven and four top burners. Model Number: WFC150M0EW0 Serial Number: R70761680
In March 2017 we obtained an electric range from Home Depot. We immediately started having problems with the back-left burner becoming extremely hot when the oven was on but the burner itself was off. Myself and other family members have accidentally touched the burner and have obtained burns. This is a design flaw that can lead to serious injury and/or death since it is also a fire hazard.
After burning myself last year I finally decided to report the range to Whirlpool. On March 12, 2024, I sent the following email to Whirlpool (whirlpool_customerexperience@whirlpool.com):
Hello: Model Number: WFC150M0EW0 Serial Number: R70761680 Date of Purchase: March 2017 Dealers Name: Home Depot There is a design flaw with the oven that makes using it very dangerous. The oven vents out through the back-left burner such that a pot of water will boil on the burner when the burner is OFF but the oven is on. I am very surprised the oven has not been recalled due to this design defect. I have burned myself numerous times accidentally on the back burner when the burners were completely turned off and the oven was on because the burner gets too hot; it is easy to forget sometimes to avoid the burner when the oven is on but the burner is off because it is very unusual for burners to get so hot when they are off. I’ve also accidentally melted/burned items that were too close to the burner while the oven was on and the burner was off. I have to continuously warn people who use the oven to not touch the back left burner and to make sure nothing is near it so that nothing burns or catches fire. It is a fire/safety hazard and I am really annoyed with constantly having to worry about it. I have never had an oven do this before. Please let me know what can be done about this situation. The oven should be recalled since I can’t be the only one experiencing this issue and it is dangerous. Feel free to call me if you need more information. Thank you.
In response to the above, I received the following email reply from Whirlpool on April 8, 2024:
Thank you for contacting the Whirlpool Consumer Correspondence Team. We sincerely apologize for the delay in responding to your previous email. Your particular model and serial number do not fall under any current recalls listed with Whirlpool. We regret that our Whirlpool Consumer Correspondence team is unable to assist you further with this matter. If you have any concerns regarding the safety of using this product, we kindly request that you contact our Consumer Care Team by calling (866) 698-2538, Mon - Fri: 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. EST. Sincerely, [REDACTED] Whirlpool Consumer Correspondence Team www.whirlpool.com (866) 698-2538
I contacted the consumer care team at the number provided on 2/7/25 and again explained the situation and that I feel the range is dangerous. A woman who answered took my information and then put me on hold. She never returned to the call and I was left holding for at least 20 minutes before I gave up holding and hung up.
I am getting ready to purchase a new range even though I cannot afford to do so because it is too dangerous to continue using the Whirlpool range I currently have. This model should have a recall and consumers compensated for the oven or provided with a way to prevent the dangerous heating up of the back-left burner. I have used many ranges (electric and gas) over the years and I’ve never had a range with a burner that gets hot enough to boil water when it is off because of how the oven vents when on.

The product, in the report: 30 electric built in microwave oven combination by Whirlpool. Stainless steel. Installed approximately April 2019.
We have a whirlpool combination microwave and oven. Despite pushing the button to turn off the oven and the panel shows that its off.
The oven still runs to the point where we have had to turn it off at the breaker. Whirlpool repair say they know it is an issue and have replaced the panel once before, and it still happens.
UPDATED ON 2/14/2025: [Whirlpool called us to set up an appointment to come to our home. They have looked at the issue, and said that it involves replacing the panel, which they have done 3 times. They want us to pay for it again.
They acknowledge that it’s a common problem. However they want us to pay for the flaw in their design.

The product, in the report: 5-in-1, electric Range with oven
(4/2024): The consumer used the oven’s self-cleaning feature for approximately an hours, when he heard an extremely loud noise that resembled a gunshot. He checked the oven and found that it blew the 50-Amp breaker in his home. He called the manufacturer, reported the problem to their customer service department. He was then transferred to their Safety Department. The rep. made arrangements for a technician to inspect the range.
5/2024: The technician came out and checked the appliance. However, he could not explain what caused the incident. The technician ordered 2 heating elements (the upper and lower), a replacement door latch component, and a control circuit board. A few days later, the technician returned to install all of the new parts, and he tested the appliance briefly. It worked fine and he left..
A week or 2 passed, before the consumer used the oven for the very first time after it was repaired. Within approximately 45 minutes, an approximate 6” electric arc shot from the area of the appliance’s control panel. The consumer had his hand on the edge of the stove, but fortunately was not injured. The arc sounded like a shotgun blast and he was 2 - 3 away from the stove at the time.
The consumer called the manufacture back and reported the latest issue to them. They offered to send out another technician, but he would not accept that. He spent 2 hours on the phone, before the firm’s representatives told him they would provide a replacement stove, for up to $1100.00. He picked out a replacement and was told it would take 3 – 6 weeks for them to send out the stove.
In late May-2024, the consumer received a call from the company indicating that they had his replacement ready. However, he was on his way out of town. He asked if the rep. if they were going to examine the defective appliance and the rep. said no, they planned to discard it. The consumer is extremely concerned since it happened twice.
Prior to this incident, he had never experienced any issues with the range or oven.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool Electric Range Model: WFE525S0HZ0 Description: Whirlpool 30-in Glass Top 5 Elements 5.3-cu ft Self-Cleaning Freestanding Electric Range (Fingerprint Resistant Stainless Steel)
My Whirlpool electric range model WFE525S0HZ0 overheated food and filled the house with smoke. Bake temp was set to 450 degrees F. to toast bread. After allowing the oven to pre-heat, the food was inserted. Two to three minutes after inserting the food, the house filled with smoke released from the burning food in the interior of the oven. No injuries or damage to the house occurred due to smoke detector alarming, direct supervision of the oven, and actions taken by the user which included turning off the oven, opening the oven door, opening the house windows, and letting the oven cool off and the smoke clear.
After letting the oven cool down, I attempted set the bake mode to 350 degrees F., allowed the oven to pre-heat, then inserted a fresh set of bread. While observing the oven cooking the food, the bread began to overheat within a minute after closing the door. I removed the food before it began to burn. The ambient heat from within the oven felt much higher than usual. It appeared that the broiler element was red-hot and may have been stuck in the on position which caused the food to overheat. It appears that this caused the inside of oven to reach a much higher temperature than the 350 F. which was reported on the control panel. The product documentation indicates that the broiler element is used during the pre-heating cycle and should turn off after the oven has come up to temperature. The broiler element remaining on leads me to believe that the product failed to switch off the element after the pre-heat cycle and caused it to overheat. My safety concern is that the product failed in an unsafe configuration and the temperatures inside the oven were much higher than the reported 350 F.

Periodically, when I set some of my electric range burners to medium heat, the burner will glow red hot as though the heat was set to high. This has happened multiple times over the last year and I just decided to report it. I almost melted a pot, which may have started a fire, as the pot boiled dry instead of boiling at a steady pace. The temperature controls for the burners are faulty and should be recalled to prevent serious injury, fire, and death.

Put the oven on self-clean mode. Noticed a strong burning smell after about an hour (self clean is 4½ hours long). Decided to stop the oven, at which time the display said HOT and the oven door locked itself. The unit proceeded to get so hot that it the display was hot to the touch and the apartment filled with smoke. We had to call maintenance to come ASAP. Maintenance ultimately shut the power at the breaker and then restored power and hard shut down (held Cancel for 5-10s) the unit. Only then did it begin to cool down.

The product, in the report: whirlpool model number WFE745H0FS0, serial number R70321770, silver knobs/handles/oven door/trim, convection and self-clean options, black 5-burner glass top stove.
I was using my whirlpool oven and noticed over the past three days, items were hotter than expecting or even burned. Yesterday, less than 7 minutes after placing cookies in the pre-heated oven at 400 degrees, smoke was billowing out of the oven and my parchment paper was on fire and cookies black. When I pressed the cancel button which is how it is supposed to turn off, it said “fault detected” but didn’t turn off. It didn’t give a repair code. It was still reading that it was set and on to 400 degrees. It was so hot that the top of my oven, the glass burner cooktop, would burn my skin if I touched it. I could not get the oven to turn off and had to turn the breaker off. Then, the oven would not power back on. 40 minutes after I shut it off at the breaker, I set a candy thermometer on the stove top and it was 109 degrees, with the windows open and cold air blowing on it. Today I had a local repairman with 25 years of experience take a look. None of the safety switches triggered. Because it has a self-clean option that would bring it to 1,000 degrees, he thinks it was at least 1,000 degrees given how badly the items looked and how quickly it happened. I took a video of his diagnostics. He set it to 250 degrees, and within a minute his temperature measurement indicated it was almost 400. He turned it off for safety and did not continue to see how high it would get. He said there are two safety switches in the oven that are a redundant protection to prevent the oven from doing this, and neither were working. The temperature sensor was slightly off, but only by about 20 degrees, so that was an issue that needed to be repaired, but not causing this issue. I may be using the wrong terminology, but it was the motherboard or brains of the oven that was broken, including both emergency safety turn-off switches. He said the oven temperature was unregulated, and would continue to rise as much as possible without stopping. It was so hot, that the adjoining countertops and shelves were hot. I think this could have caused my house to burn down if it had been a different situation, or I had left the kitchen for a moment, or was cooking something containing oil.

Whirlpool range stovetop can be at 225 degrees without a warning light of “still hot.” This occurs on only the largest burner--the other three stay on alert for about 20 minutes whereas this one (if it is the only burner that was lit) has an alert of only five minutes. Luckily, no injuries occurred because there are only adults in the house and the heat was felt before a hand was laid upon the stove.

We own a Whirlpool oven. MOD WEE730H0DS0 SER R63760309 The stove does not turn off correctly. We have turn knobs and 2 of the burners don’t turn off in the off position. We have to turn the knob past off and the back to off to turn off. We found this out by seeing the red burner lit up an hour after we finished cooking. We have just dealt with it for a while, and figured out how to get it to turn off. Tonight the stove wouldn’t turn off at all and we had to unplug it. This is very scary, and we will need to replace it.

We disconnected the range at the breaker panel. We looked on line for what might be the problem. And we were not the first! Websites told us that the switch can burn itself. The product, in the report: whirlpool 30inch stainless steel electric range
Product being used was a whirlpool electric range model number WFE525S0hz0, s.n. R8298057. Oven was being used in the bake mode and set at a temperature of 400 degrees. Oven came up to temp normally. After placing our item to be baked and after several minutes the oven automatically switched to the broiler mode. This was indicated on the control panel and a fault code F6 E1 was also displayed on the screen. This was not noticed until contents in oven began to burn filling the kitchen with smoke. The glass burners and the upper control panel became so hot I was not unable touch them as I was trying to pull the oven away from the wall. Trying to cancel the function using the key pad did not work. Only when I tripped the circuit breakers did the broiler element stop what seemed like an uncontrollable runaway temperature. Now the broiler element continues to heat up although at a lower temperature and without any indication when there is power to the range.

I was baking a pizza at 400° it was on approximately 10 minutes when there was an explosion of glass from the door when it popped it sounded very loud like a bomb had been dropped in the kitchen! The glass exploded and proceeded to fall out of the door onto the floor. I am a 60 year old woman who has been cooking 45 years and I have never seen this happen! If my granddaughters would have been here there would’ve been injuries luckily they weren’t here and I was around the corner from the stove talking with my daughter when this happened.

The product, in the report: Electric, double oven
[REDACTED], built a double wide for the consumer and they installed the appliances, prior to the consumer receiving the home.
Within 3 months of purchase, any food that was placed in the oven, would burn. The consumer contacted the manufacturer and they replaced the electronic panel, at no charge.
Next, over the last 2 years, the timer began to freeze and would not advance. Therefore, the consumer contacted his home appliance, insurance company. The same technician came out and replaced the electric panel, on 3 different occasions.
12/25/2021: The consumer had the lower oven on the “self-clean” setting, for less than 30 minutes, when the inner oven glass shattered. The inner glass is similar to a window on the inside door.
12/27/2021: The consumer called the manufacturer and reported the problem to a rep. Their rep. asked if he had the mfr’s extended coverage on the oven and the consumer said no, because he has extended appliance coverage, through his homeowner’s insurance. The rep. then said their warranty was only good for 1 year and she offered the consumer a list of local service companies, he could call. Nothing else transpired.
The consumer is also concerned that this problem could occur with the upper oven.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool Convection range, oven. With “AquaLift” cleaning. Less than three years old. Model WFE540H0ES0
Turned my 3-year-old Whirlpool convection oven on to 350 degrees to preheat while preparing cake batter. This range has a “hidden” bottom heating element underneath the bottom surface of the oven. The oven heated to the set temperature. Approximately 3 minutes after placing the glass cake pan into the oven, I heard a snapping, popping sound. Fortunately, I was standing next to the oven to hear it. When I opened the oven door, I could see bright orange flames and hear sparks underneath the bottom of the oven. I turned the oven off and the snapping stopped. I pulled the range away from the wall and unplugged it. Nothing had dripped into the space under the floor of the oven. I removed the back panel and all the wiring at the cable terminal was intact and tight. The short circuit must be coming from the wiring or electrical board components inside the oven housing. Had I not been standing next to the oven to hear the problem as soon as it occurred and been there to turn it off, I fear it would have caused a major house fire. We are supposed to be able to “program” bake times and walk away from items while they are baking. I don’t know that I will feel secure again leaving the kitchen while something is baking. I will not buy another oven where the heating element is NOT within the main oven area.
