The product, in the report: Maytag 24 inch dishwasher, model MDB8951BWS, serial number 10599905LR
My Maytag dishwashers heating element ruptured and showed signs of smoke on nearby drain area plastic. I went online and learned this model of dishwasher is part of a recall because of fires caused by the heating element. I tried Maytags product recall website and entered the correct model number and serial number. I received a popup message indicating the serial number does not exist. I took photo s and sent them to Maytag customer service. They couldn’t find the serial number and instead left a voicemail saying it wasn’t on the recall list. I suspect it is part of the recall but can’t find how to verify the serial number. Ii bought the dishwasher from a reputable national home supply chain during the time period listed in the recall.
Regardless, if this dishwasher isn’t in the original recall it should be and the recall should be expanded to include this dangerous problem. I still have the dishwasher but am afraid to use the heat drive setting for fear of burning down the house. Today I went online to search for a replacement element. When I did the recall warning came up in the search hits again.
The model number on the inside frame sticker is MDB8951BWS. The serial number is 10599905LR.

The product, in the report: Model MDB7600AWW, Serial 14177130ax Maytag dishwasher.
I currently have a Maytag dishwasher that is leaking water on it’s power lines. This could potentially be a fire hazard.
Please see “Maytag Recalls Dishwashers Due to Fire Hazard” Release #07-094. My dishwasher has the same model number in the above article but I was told because the serial numbers did not match I was not eligible to have this fixed. I find this ridiculous when as I said the model numbers match and I am experiencing water coming in to contact with the power lines.
I would like the rebate available and not to have this product fixed due to the fact I am concerned with it’s safety.
My model is MDB7600AWW, serial number 14177130ax.

The product, in the report: Maytag Dishwasher
Our Maytag dishwasher model number MDB9150AWB, serial number 27061674ZY started smoking and making noises like electrical arching today, February 26, 2014 at around 4 in the afternoon. The dishwasher was off and had not been run today but the wall switch was on. We were lucky that we came home when we did at around 3:45. I smelled something when I first came home that smelled like burning plastic but I did not know what the smell was or where it was coming from. A short time later my daughter was in the kitchen and saw the smoke coming out of the dishwasher. We turned off the wall switch and the smoke soon stopped. We do not find this dishwasher serial number on the list of recalled Maytag dishwashers but we do believe that it was either on fire or about to be on fire.

The product, in the report: Maytage dishwasher--filed incident on the phone with [REDACTED] afer form did not work 3 times. Report # 20140205-70ABA-1385376
Last evening our Maytag dishwasher exploded. We had run the dishwasher using a liquid soap. We were upstairs when we heard a loud bang from downstairs. We went down and found our dishwasher door had blown open, the inside of the dishwasher was cover in a dry white residue, and the heating element was all bent and twisted out of shape. The room was full of smoke and had a strong burnt electric smell. We turned off the circuit breaker, and unpacked the dishwasher. Luckily, no one was in the kitchen at the time so no one was injured. Bang, smoke and smell scared the heck out of us though until we figured out what was up..

The product, in the report: Maytag Steamclean Dishwasher with metal tub
Our Maytag dishwasher model MDB7851AWS has malfunctioned. The dishwasher became incredibly hot even though it was not running and it melted all of our plastic cups. It also melted the black gasket at the bottom of the tub. It appears that the heating element did not shut off after the last cycle ended. The dishwasher did not damage the wood cabinets but did leave them warm to the touch. The kitchen smelled like an electrical fire.
The Maytag dishwasher recall issued in 2010 does not apply to dishwashers with a metal tub but I did some research online and found that other consumers with this Steamclean model and a stainless tub also experienced the same overheating element problems.
My serial number on the unit is 41656081NG.

The product, in the report: Dishwasher
Tuesday, January 28th, 2014 caller loaded his dishwasher purchased May 2002, began wash cycle then about five minutes into wash cycle while he was still in the kitchen he heard crackling or sparking type of noises coming from the dishwasher and black smoke coming out of top of unit around control panel then he opened the door to cut the unit off.
He never saw flames or sparks but there was some smoke. He tripped the breaker to assure that it would not be used again until the problem was solved. There are no injuries being reported The caller has contacted the manufacturer via the website, verified that he is registered with them and has not received any notice from him but checked for himself anyway and did verify that his model is not recalled. The owner subsequently contacted the manufacturer and informed them of the incident.
This hotline rep also checked and did not find his serial number under recalls. The caller is concerned that this could happen to someone else and they may not be right there to act as quickly This caller has asked that he become compensated for this safety incident with voucher toward a new dishwasher and the manufacturer has agreed.

The product, in the report: Black Maytag Dishwasher.
Last few minutes of dishwasher drying cycle I was walking by. I smelled something burning. It smelled like plastic. The heating element was burned a hole into the bottom of the dishwasher. I looked to see if it is recalled. The ones recalled look exactly (inside and out) like mine. This could have burned my house down. I am afraid a lot of water has now leaked under my washer.

The product, in the report: MAYTAG mdb7851aws dishwasher 46057021np
We have a MAYTAG dishwasher model MDB7851AWS that has malfunctioned. While removing a load of dishes yesterday we noticed that everything was incredibly hot. Investigating further revealed that the heating element was not shutting off when the cycle ended. This caused the rubber gasket to melt. There was no way to shut the unit off other than disconnecting the power.
Looking online I noticed a recall issued in 2010.
https://repair.maytag.com/prjjck10/default.jsp?siteCd=RCU_EN_US&id=R173BV
I would be curious to know of others have filed reports. in searching forums online it appears that others with the same model have had similar issues. It would appear that adding this model to the list would be prudent.
My serial number on the unit is 46057021NP
If possible I would like to discuss this with someone at the CPSC. Clearly this problem is beyond those already acknowledged by MayTag.

The product, in the report: Maytag Dishwasher
Dishwasher was off. Walked into kitchen and saw sparks in front of dishwasher. Removed lower panel and found a bunch of wires (several wires) that goes up inside the door had a bare spot with burn marks around one wire. The wires were rubbing on a sharp piece of metal at the bottom of the door right where they go up into the door. There is no protection for these wires other than the thin covering on the wires themselves. These wires move and rub on surrounding metal surfaces every time the door is moved. Dishwasher manufactured 10/2001.

The product, in the report: Maytag dishwasher.
I have a MDB8959AWS6 Maytag Dishwasher S/N F14004717
The unit failed, upon performance diagnosis to determine part failure the thermal fuse was blown.
While identifying the fuse, I noticed burn damage (brown insulation) on the wire harness, most likely not the wiring insulation, but the rubber sound proofing adjacent to the wiring. The power plug on the wire harness connecting to the control board was melted. There was heat damage (brown discoloration) around the power blade terminals of the plug on the control circuit board. There was electrical burning odors in and around the dishwasher when it failed mid cycle. The unit has a dedicated circuit breaker that was not blown. The unit was set to normal wash, no heat dry, and sanitize mode.

The product, in the report: Built-in Dishwasher - Other identifying numbers in addition to those below: E3997 and LR111720
This product was the subject of a recall, and the door (with controls) has been replaced. The machine failed again last night, after we had retired. Neither the degergent door, nor he water valve opened. The timer advanced to the dry stage and turned on the heater, where it remained stopped with the “Heater Delay” light illuminated until it was discovered his morning. The machine was very hot, probably dangerously so. There was a definate odor of over-heated metal and plastic. It is clear that this machine continues to present a fire hazard and should be recalled completely.

The product, in the report: Maytag dishwasher under counter installed
the control panel on our maytag dishwasher caught on fire and burned the control card and the two wire harness that plug into the control card. We were not aware that this had happened until we tried to wash a new load of dishes and there were no lights on the outside controls. I opened up the front panel and saw that the control card was burned. This is a new dishwasher that we bought from home depot in 2011.

The product, in the report: Maytag Quiet Series 400 MDB9601AWW
i started dishwasher at 5:30 pm. it is a 90 min. cycle so should have been finished around 8 pm. i did not check on it before going to bed as i have never had a problem with it and just completely forgot i had turned it on. the next morning i noticed that my countertop was very warm as if the dishwasher was in the drying stage. i opened the door and sure enough the heating element was still going from the night before. the dishes were bone dry and i almost burned my hand getting the silverware out. there is no way to turn of the heat element that i know of at this point so i unplugged the appliance and waited a few hours for everything to cool off. when i plugged it back in, to see if i could just bypass the heated dry and still use the wash cycle, the heat element was already hot enough to burn me and i hadn’t touched a thing on the controls. i again unplugged it and am not able to use it. i was lucky i did not have a fire overnight with the heat on for that amount of time and all the plastic cups and plates that were in the load. the dishwasher was a Maytag Quiet Series 400 bought in 2007

The product, in the report: Maytag Legacy Series (Quiet series). It is silver and black in color. This dishwasher causes the power to our home to go out every time it is run.
We have a Maytag dishwasher we purchased new at Home Depot. This is has two numbers #MDBH965AWS & #37863748LV.
Every time we use our dishwasher, the power to our whole house goes out. We have read the news stories warning consumers of the fire hazards & wiring problems with these dishwashers. We wanted to report what we are experiencing with ours. We have only had this dishwasher for about 3 years & our plan is to replace it with a new one, since there are reports of several catching fire.
Thanks, [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Dishwasher
The caller stated that his dishwasher overheated which made his countertops extremely hot. When it was opened approximately 9 hours later he was unable to touch anything due to the heat. The dishwasher was placed in wash cycle before retiring to bed, however, the next morning he discovered that the heating elements were probably on longer than they should.
There was no visible damages, but there was a smell of melted plastic.
(12/2010) The caller stated that he had received the recall notice for Release #10-255. When he contacted the firm he was advised that the recall would not affect his stainless steel tub. However, this incident occurred to his dishwasher and he feels that it should be included in the recall because it is a fire hazard.
The manufacturer was not contacted as yet.

The product, in the report: Household dishwasher, used once weekly at a small church.
I took the door apart on this Maytag DW when it suddenly stopped working last Sunday. No lights; completely unresponsive. When I detected current at the junction box behind the base panel, but none at the door switch, I followed the black & while wires down the door. At the point where the wires exit the door and go under the tub, four of them are worn through, exposing bare wire. It also appears some of the plastic insulation around them is charred. At least one wire is severed.
Although this DW is not part of a recall (based upon the last 2 of the SN) this seems like a product design issue. Model #: MDB9150AWW SN: 2793279CR

We used our dishwasher this am and when we returned home at 1:30pm, I opened the dishwasher to get a bowl and it was burning HOT. I didn’t think anything of it, just thought the dishwasher must have just finished drying. We began to smell a burning smell in the house. Later at 7:30 pm I opened to get more dishes out and it smelt of burning/melting plastic and the dishes were still burning HOT. The heating element will not shut off. I then opened and shut dishwasher, hit cancel to see if it would turn off and that didn’t work. My husband then went and turned the circuit breaker on and off and half an hour later it still was on and burning HOT. He then went and shut the circuit breaker all together. We researched recalls and Maytag does have recalls for this problem and it says with serial numbers ending in JL which ours is but when I go to submit recall it tells me that it doesn’t qualify for recall.

Approximately 9pm noticed dishwasher was extremely hot. It had not been manually started but appeared to be in a cycle having started by itself. It was not responsive to turning off and took me some time to do so. Water and wash cycles had not run in machine. Dishes were still dirty and were not wet. Machine indicator lights did not indicate it was in a heated drying cycle. Kitchen counter was extremely hot. We have owned machine since home purchase in March 2002 (purchased new). Machine has not ever turned on by itself, nor have we inadvertently turned on as buttons require specific pressure to initiate cycles. Machine had last run the day before without incident.

After starting my Maytag dishwasher (which is 9 years old), I heard popping coming from the kitchen. I ran in and saw flames coming from the top close to where the handle is. Luckily I could open the door which turned off the dishwasher. The flame extinguished itself due to turning off the power. I feel very, very lucky there were no damages or injuries. I would like to warn people buying a Maytag or if one is currently in their home. I’d like the dishwasher to go out rather than set my house on fire.

Maytag Recall Dishwasher Although my model number is not currently listed on your current recall list, I had to recently replace the heating element after we smelled an electrical fire in our dishwasher. When I dissembled the dishwasher, the heating element had faulted and melted the plastic where the element connected to the dishwasher. We happened to be home when we smelled the plastic melting and immediately stopped the dishwasher. The plastic was melted so bad that I had to cut off the connecting grommet. I am concerned that this is the same problem identified in the current recall and request a technical investigation to determine a similar problem with the model I have as noted below:

Dish washer smelled burned. Contacted Maytag, discovered unit was under a recall. Maytag never contacted me about recall despite registration at phurchae. Maytag agreed to send repair parts. I waited several weeks. No parts arrived. Contacted Maytag again, they again offered to send parts, claiming a computer glitch. Weeks later no parts have arrived.
I cannot plug in washer for fear of fire, but cannot obtain recalled parts as a remedy from Maytag.

The dishwasher heating coil stayed on overnight and was extremely hot in the morning. Opening the door did not shut it off immediately. Closing and opening the door a second time got it to shut off. I looked up the model and serial number on the Maytag recall site and it said we were not part of the recall even though it acted exactly as described.

The product, in the report: Maytag dishwasher
Last night around 8pm, I started the Maytag dishwasher. I get up this morning around 8am and went to get a cup of coffee and I noticed the dishwasher was warm. The two lights indicating that it was done were lit. I’m thinking this isn’t normal it should be done and cold by now. I opened it up and a wall of HOT air hits me in the face, and the smell of plastic was overwhelming. It melted my coffee cup on the top shelf, it ruined baby bottles on the top shelf too. We thru the breaker right away, and disconnected from electric. Opened windows to get the smell out. I have a baby in the house not even 2 weeks old. I looked on the Maytag site to see if there were a recall for this. There were for plastic tubs not mine a metal tub. I called Maytag to find out what to do. This was no avail. They wanted to send someone out to check it out. They want me to connect to power again. NO WAY!!! It dang near burnt my house down!!! I told them they can check it out on the patio cause that’s where it’s gonna be. We are going over to Homedepot and get another dishwasher and it isn’t gonna be a Maytag. This dishwasher is only 3 years old. I’ve had it serviced like 5 times for different things. It’s a piece of [REDACTED].

Maytag Customer Service 553 Benson Road Benton Harbor, MI 49022 Monday, August 13, 2012
Dear Sirs:
This is to advise you of a potential fire that was caused by your Maytag Dishwasher Model Number: MDB6601AWW; Serial Number: 37240735NA, that was purchased on April 04, 2008 from Grants Appliances, Electronics and More in Joliet, Illinois.
Two months ago I noticed a strong odor of something electrical burning (smelled like burning hair). As I am handicapped and cannot kneel down or bend over, I was unable to determine the source of the odor. I simply stopped using your dishwasher until my son was able to come over last night and look at the dishwasher to see where the problem might have been.
We were quite shocked by what he found when he pulled the dishwasher out and went to undo the electrical connection.
The photos can speak better than my words.
My son-in-law is the [REDACTED] with the fire prevention bureau of the Pleasantview Fire Protection District in La Grange Highlands, Illinois.
He looked at the burned parts and told us that we were very lucky that we still have a home to live in. Luckily, I did not use the dishwasher after discovering the odor.
Since owning this dishwasher, we have had to replace the handle and door latch on or about March 19, 2010, and have had a previous recall kit installed on or about June 08, 2010 by Nite Owl Appliance Repairs, Joliet Illinois….who used Recall Kit: W10327037 per your recall instructions.
This problem presented a hazard that could very well have resulted in a fire in my home.
As this dishwasher was purchased in 2008, I know that it is out of warranty.
With the recent [REDACTED] Dishwasher recall, we wondered whether this dishwasher might have the same problem.
After reading the material available on the [REDACTED] dishwasher recall, we can see that it is not the same problem; however, the problem with our dishwasher would have caused a fire had we had continued to use it.
I decided to write to you rather than calling because the photos would be difficult if not impossible to describe over the phone.
Perhaps you could issue a similar recall with this make and model of dishwasher before someone suffers a preventable tragedy.

The product, in the report: White under the counter Maytag dishwasher purchased on 7/26/10
My Maytag dishwasher’s (model # MDBTT53AWW1) control panel shorted out after only 23 months of light use because the manufacturer failed to install a rubber gromett around the inlet holed in the power box. This resulted when the wire insulation was cut due to the sharp metal in the junction box. This could have resulted in fire or an electrical shock. Thankfully the control panel blew before that happened but Maytag will not stand behind their product since we did not buy an extend year warranty. They do not show that they have issued a recall for this type of problem with other dishwashers. There only recourse is for me to schedule a service call which is out of my pocket and the cost of the service call is more than I can buy the replacement control panel.
I am glad this did not turn into a fire or an injury but it easily could have and wanted to voice my concern. I imagine I am not the only one with this issue and if not, I would like my complaint to be added to any others if it prompts a product recall. I have one year to return the control panel I am purchasing. I will be checking for product recalls on your web site. Thank you for providing consumers a voice since Maytag was not interested in hearing from me.

We have a Maytag dishwasher. We have had it for about 5 years. Last night the heating element did not shut off that dries the dishes. This morning we discovered it. It was so hot the paint burned of off plates.
Also a very heat durable plastic piece from our expresso maker warped. It would take a lot of heat for that to happen.
Even when we had the unit turned off the heating element kept heating. I had to turn off all power to the unit from the circuit breaker.

We ran it again to see if the same thing would happen and it did - after three hours the heating element was still on and thing got very hot. We worry about the risk of fire if this happens again so we have disonnected the dishwasher and will replace it but thought you should know in case there are other similar situations.

The product, in the report: Maytag Quiet Series 200 built-in dishwasher
I purchased a Maytag QuietSeries 200 dishwasher Model #MDBH945AWW3, Serial #NY3514751 in 2009. This appliance has performed well up until about 6 months ago when I began experiencing electrical problems with the unit. Problems include the electronic control panel lights not working and the control panel not responding when making selections. Now the unit does not function at all.
I have taken this dishwasher apart to examine the wires inside the front door leading from the main electronic control board to the exterior control panel and have also had an electrician examine the wiring of the unit (see attached pictures). Upon conclusion of this inspection I have found that the main wiring harness from the control panel to the electronic control board is severed and burned in an area of the wiring that is not covered by a plastic layer of protection or coating. I believe that this electrical wire has been damaged by moisture buildup during the normal operation of this dishwasher.
I hope to find a positive resolution to my problem and I have contacted Maytag/Whirlpool customer support. The support service has directed me to a service number to pay to have my dishwasher repaired. I believe that this is a quality control inspection issue or design flaw of the appliance, and it is clearly a problem that should not occur with a dishwasher that is only 3 years old.

I woke up at 1:45 a.m. and smelled something burning hot I walked downstairs to kitchen and noticed all the green lights were on, on the dishwasher, which was strange, because I turned it on before bed at 9p.m. It should have been off by now. I came closer and noticed it was very very hot. I opened it up and some of my dishes were broken and extremely hot. I tried to get lights to turn off and they will not. I wanted to cool it down, I took the racks with dishes out and still it was very hot. I then tried to pull it out and unplug it. When I opened the dishwasher door and took out the rack, I burned my fingers cause the dishes were so hot. This dishwasher had a recall on it before, and now here we go with another issue.

The consumer stated that she had not seen no visible damages to the dishwasher. The manufacturer was not contacted. However, she contacted a dealer and was advised to contact the agency to file a report. The consumer feels that this dishwasher is a fire hazard and should be included in a recall.

The spatula became completely liquid, and parts of it are still stuck to the tray. I am afraid to use the dishwasher in the future for fear of burning something and starting a fire.

Brought a Maytag dishwasher at Best Buy 10/26/03. Smelled something burning one evening (dishwasher was not running at the time) mention this to my husband. He recalled reading about dishwashers starting on fire...we decided to replace the dishwasher. On 3/10/12 while installing the new dishwasher the installer showed me a burnt neural wire along with the melted scorched wire nut. Unfortunately they removed the old dishwasher. Looked up Maytag and found the recall, called and asked them to check my registration. There system does not have my records and I know that I registered the dishwasher as I do all my appliances. I gave them all the information from the receipt and they still could not locate my information.
They suggested I call Best Buy to find the serial number and model number.
This is ridiculous - my house could have caught on fire while we slept and because their records do not show the purchase we were never notified of the problem.

The product, in the report: Maytag dishwasher with stainless steel interior. Model MDB6650AW Serial 10520577YK
We have a Maytag dishwasher. For several months, the dishwasher and dishes had a funny smell after running through the cleaning cycle. One morning, after breakfast, I ran the dishwasher and went on an errand, returning home approximately 1 hour 15 minutes later. The kitchen smelled of burnt plastic and there was black smoke coming from the top of the dishwasher door. There was sticky, black soot on the top edge of the door and on the inside of the door. I had recently heard a news report about a dishwasher recall so checked online to see if our unit was included in it. It was not - the recall was for units with a plastic tub, ours is stainless steel. I called the dealer where the unit was purchased and a repairman was assigned to help us. When he took the panel off the door, the coating on the wires was melted and there was exposed wiring. He said it could easily have started a fire. He said that many dishwashers were having trouble with the liquid rinse aid getting into the wiring, and this was possibly the result of that action. The cost to repair the unit was $246.00. We wonder why the stainless steel tub units were not included in the recall -- it is a serious safety matter and should be investigated. Also, an issue of the liquid rinse aid leaving its housing and corroding the wiring should also be scrutinized.

The product, in the report: DISHWASHER
Maytag Model# MDBH975AWW with SN# 10547771JA was purchased from Home Depot on 02/17/2006 and I do not see this model on a recall list, but it has had a “meltdown” this morning. The heating element did not shut down and melted several of the dishwashers internal parts along with some [REDACTED] while shrinking/melting & cracking a couple of [REDACTED] knife handles. It has been a great machine up to this point.
I started the dishwasher last night before going to bed at around 2200 hrs. Things appeared fine when I woke up at 0445 hrs. with the usual green cycle completed light on. My wife has been ill with a bad cold and called in sick for a 2nd day to her work during this time. I left for work at 0550 hrs. as usual while she was in bed ill. I received a frantic phone call around 0700 hrs. from her about the meltdown incident and asking how to unplug the dishwasher. Because it would not stop heating and things “are very hot & melting” I instructed her to shut down the breaker until I got home. I am thinking it is a good thing that she was here at the time and I do not know how much worse it could have gotten if we had both been gone for the day. I am going to write it off as a total loss. But felt I should raise a flag.

The product, in the report: dishwasher
My wife opened the dishwasher this morning and had her face burned unxpectedly by an intense heat coming from the dishwasher that had been sitting all night. Fortunately, she wears glasses and did not harm her eyes. She has the habit of starting the dishwasher before going to bed and empting it out the next morning. I checked the internal temperature with an IR temp tool (I am a retired EE) and it read over 275 degrees F. Plastic items were melted and the heating element was still hot. My wife does not use the dry heating option, so it should not have been on at all. I had to find the power panel and turn off the breaker to stop the heating, and leave the door open for some time until the inside had cooled down to the point of safety. I disconnected the dishwasher and put it outside.

loaded our builtin Maytage dishwasher, started it up and it began expelling smoke out the front of the unit. I immediately opened the unit to stop it (if it would stop) and stop smoking and fortunately it did stop but it had quickly filled the house with that electrical burning smell. The water spinners top and bottom were free of any obstruction and would move easily to the touch. The black smoke marks on the dishwasher were located at the top right of the door mounted control panel. This dishwasher had never given us any trouble prior to this incident. I will be reporting it to the manufacturer tomorrow. The offending dishwasher’s model number is Maytag MDBD850AWX and the serial number is 1033224ZF. The unit was already installed in the new (at that time, 2003) house when we moved in in April 2003.

I have never had any problems with it until now. A couple of days ago I smelled smoke and tracked it to the dishwasher. The dishwasher shut down during the wash cycle and the top of the door was ridden with black soot, with the strong smell of burning electronics in the air. Quite obviously, there was a electrical fire inside the door. Thankfully, outside the odor, it did not cause damage to anything else. I do not use any drying agent and used powdered dishwasher soap. I am writing this simply as information to you.

After having our Maytag dishwasher repaired twice for electical problems because of recall issues. On Friday we experienced yet another electrical fire in our dishwasher. After contacting Maytag customer service we were told there is nothing that can be done because of the age of the dishwasher. Clearly there is a safety issue with this brand of dishwasher electrical wiring.

The consumer said that he has the exact same problem that has been identified in recall CAP# 10-255. The heating element is broken. The case around the element is cracked. An electrical failure in the dishwasher’s heating element can pose a serious fire hazard.
The dishwasher would cause the circuit breaker to trip. The discontinued use of the dishwasher. He had a service technician come out to look at it and the tech. said that the dishwasher was under recall.
The consumer saw the recall approximately 5 weeks ago. The consumer contacted the firm, but he was told that his product was not included in the recall.
The consumer is upset, because he has the exact same problem identified in the recall and he has the beginning letters and numbers mentioned in the CPSC press release.
The CPSC entered the consumer model and serial number in the firm’s website and it indicated that his unit was not included. The consumer believes that the recall should be expanded based the problems that others may have.

The product, in the report: dishwasher built-in, vented in rear of dishwasher.
purchased 4-13-2009 at home depot, Elk River,MN, Found that the vent was located in the rear of the built in dishwasher. Since dishwasher is enclosed and covered with insulating material, the steam and moisture generated from the dishwasher has no where to go, except to saturate the insulation, the cabinets on both sides as well as the sheetrock wall behind it. Thus the dishes never dry and the walls and cabinets are damp and wet causing mold and mildew to grow in the wood cabinets as well as the drywall. We have called and have had service calls placed 6 times and were told that it was not repairable and that it was a design defect by the manufacturer, therefore not covered by the manufacture warranty or the extended warranty we purchased. The dishwasher does not preform as stated in the consumer information, has caused damage to the interior of our home and is a serious health hazard.

The product, in the report: MAYTAG DISHWASHER, WHITE, UNDER COUNTER MOUNTED
I started my dishwasher to run for the evening, when I selected the wash cycle, flames shot out of the top of the dishwasher from behind the control panel. I immediately went to turn off the electrical breaker and the flames went out, and there was smoke. We waited a few minutes to make sure the fire was completely out and then un-plugged the dishwasher. We are very lucky that we were home at the time of the fire, and there wasn’t much damage to our home. I happened to be in the same room and was able to react quickly. Normally I turn on my dishwasher when I leave for work in the mornings, had I done this that day, our home might have burned to the ground. We live in a rural area, so it takes the volunteer fire department a long time to respond.

The product, in the report: White Front, stainless interior dishwasher
In September of 2011, I began to smell a burning plastic smell coming from my dishwasher while it was running. Each time I opened it, the smell went away and I saw nothing on the bottom burning or melting. December 2, 2011 while a load of dishes were washing, the diswasher shut off and I couldn’t get it to turn back on. It had been reset once before by a technician so I figured it needed to be reset again. As soon as my husband took the inside panel off, he saw that the wires that connect to the circut board were charred and burnt through. He was very surprised they didn’t catch on fire. I have seen that other Maytag dishwashers have had similar issues and have been recalled. I feel this model needs to be added as well. I called and talked to Maytag about the issue and they said there is nothing they can do because we did not by the extended warranty. The dishwasher was purchased March 2010, so we haven’t even had it for 2 years!

The product, in the report: Under the counter dishwasher
The dishwasher door would not seal all of the time correctly and would cause a flood on the kitchen floor. Would not happen all of the time so you never knew when to expect the leak.
Then the heating element coil inside the plastic tub popped. The element appears to have broken or melted apart while in the heating mode.

I dont think it was fixed properly, but they said I have to pay if i want it fixed.

The product, in the report: Maytag quietseries 300 dishwasher in bisque....plastic tub.
We left for Thanksgiving for 5 days, came home and our dishwasher was extremely hot.....apparently the heating element had been going the entire time we had been gone. Not only did this cost us an arm and a leg in electricity, I’m sure, but out entire house could have burned to the ground. Even now, I’m still trying to figure out how to turn it off. And, Maytag’s customer hotline which says “call anytime” is apparently closed until Monday.
It’s a Maytag quietseries 300 and is apparently involved in a recent recall.
I’m thankful the house didn’t burn down, but am really upset about this. And I don’t want my defective dishwasher repaired.....I want a new one. $150-$250 rebate doesn’t buy a new one, and I don’t want a stainless steel front.

The product, in the report: Dishwasher
Dishwasher did not work and called Maytag repair. They showed me both the control panel and wiring harness was totally melted and burnt.Said it would cost over 300 in parts alone to repair.Paid the 99 dollar service call and started calling Maytag customer service, as the machine was only months out of the 1 year warranty. I got nowhere with them.My wife, who is batteling lung cancer called coporate and broke down on the phone as we can not afford this right now because of medical bills, etc. They agreed to replace the panel and harness for just the service call finally. How do I know this will not happen again? After seeing reviews on the product, and tv reports they had to have known it was a defect in design.Replacing with the same parts will not fix the obvious problem
