    The breaker on my Bosch dishwasher tripped and would reset. Pulling out the dishwasher I discovered that the Bosch provided electrical junction box with attached power cord was burned inside and the center terminal had melted. The dishwasher was working since install 2.5 years ago. The connections in the junction box were not loose.

    The product, in the report: This is a standard size under counter Bosch dishwasher, purchased about 10 years ago.

    Hello, The rack inside my dishwasher is dissolving into an oily substance. When the dishwasher is done running and I open the door, there is an oily substance on the dishes below the plastic component on the rack above. This is not plastic I loaded into the dishwasher, this is a part of the upper rack itself. When I touch the plastic part of the rack, it is oily, like it is dissolving. This material has been melting and dripping and presumably mixing with the wash and rinse water, covering my dishes, which means I have been ingesting the plastic that the upper rack is made out of for an unknown period of time. I am very concerned about possible health consequences. I have been noticing something oily on my dishes as I have unloaded for the last few weeks. This isn’t something that will wash away, it keeps dissolving which is why the oily substance persists despite all the washes the dishwasher has run between the first time I noticed and today. I called customer support yesterday, and the person who answered said that the racks have a 10 year life span, and offered to sell me a replacement.

    The product, in the report: Bosch power junction box for a Bosch dishwasher. The dishwasher is model SHPM65Z55N/20 and serial FD02071360. The Junction Box is model SMZPCJB1UC and has no visible serial number or manufacture date. The junction box was installed on July 21, 2022 and purchased from Home Depot at the same time as the dishwasher.

    Bosch dishwasher power junction box has signs of electrical fire including melted wires and plastic, and blackened plastic on the inside of the case. The unit was purchased from Home Depot and installed by professional installers in July 2022. There were no issues with the dishwasher until this occurred. The dishwasher is run over night, so no one was awake to smell if there was smoke or other signs of fire.

It is advertised for its ultra-quiet operation, high efficiency, and premium cleaning performance. It was purchased with the intent of reliable, long-term household use.

    I purchased a Bosch Benchmark Series 24” Dishwasher (Model #SHX89PW75N) from Home Depot #6678 in Livermore, CA in December 2024, with delivery delayed multiple times and completed in April 2024.

    Timeline of Issues:

    Shortly after installation, the unit failed due to a motherboard issue, which was replaced under warranty. Immediately after that, the dishwasher began tripping GFCI outlets and emitting visible internal sparks/fire when connected to a standard outlet.

    A licensed electrician confirmed the homes wiring was correct and GFCI-protected at the panel.

    Certified Technician Diagnosis:

    A BSH-certified technician from [REDACTED] visited my home and diagnosed the dishwasher as having internal short circuits and being unsafe and beyond repair.

    I was told the technician submitted a report to BSH, and I followed up repeatedly with their support team.

    Contradictory Information:

    When I later called BSH support, I was told the report states the unit is reparable, directly contradicting what I was told during the technicians visit.

    I have requested a copy of the technician’s report but have not received one.

    Efforts to Resolve:

    I contacted BSH, Home Depot, and the technicians office multiple times.

    I also initiated a credit card dispute with [REDACTED].

    I asked BSH for either a replacement unit or a refund due to the unresolved and unsafe condition.

    Unresolved and Unsafe:

    At present, I have a non-functional and potentially dangerous dishwasher in my home. Ive received no meaningful resolution or transparency from the manufacturer or retailer.

ADDITIONALLY, this product was advertised with a white cabinet looking front and handle. Potentially that woukd have been heavy enough to stop this from occurring. Every photo showed it with the front but it apparently did not come with it and I’ll also be filing something against home depot for false advertising. We ordered apr 20. It was delivered apr 25. We were unable to hook it up until about 2 weekends ago.

    I would like to report about a dishwasher that has caused multiple injuries and will continue to do so. The door on my dishwasher will not stay in an open position and it slams abruptly. We (members in the house) have each had individual injuries ranging from jammed fingers to bruising from the door slamming closed. It could potentially result in broken or worse if it happens if your fingers are near the top and the door slams closed. I’ve had it happen to my 14yr from only an 1/8th from closed and it resulted in serious jams to the finger. It slammed into my elbow causing bruising and a slightly skinned elbow... I personally feel very lucky it was not worse but expect that its possible it will happen. The door does not close when the lower tray is pulled out but you must push the lower tray back to put in detergent... this is how i was personally injured. I talked to my husband and my appliance repair man to see if there is any way to adjust the tension for the door mechanism but was told no. There have already been multiple injuries over the last month we’ve owned it. I was told I can’t return it as there was only a 2 day window for returning it. I paid $1,500 for it and it is dangerous. I hate it with a passion and am actually scared of it and im really scared its going to significantly injure someone.

    Description of Incident: In April, 2024, a Bosch dishwasher (Model SHE56C05UC/17, FD8504 00101) caused a fire in our kitchen that resulted in extensive property damage. We were unaware the unit had been recalled until after the incident occurred.

    Our family purchased this home with the appliance already installed. The previous owners confirmed they had registered the dishwasher with Bosch, yet neither they nor we were ever notified of the recall, despite the product being covered under Bosch’s 2015 recall for a fire hazard related to the power cord.

    Bosch has declined responsibility so far, citing process rather than accountability. Our insurance provider will not cover the full loss, and we believe Bosch’s failure to adequately notify consumers has left families like ours exposed to serious danger.

    We are submitting this report to urge the CPSC to investigate Bosch’s recall outreach and notification strategy, as this appears to be a case of ineffective or incomplete consumer protection.

    Injuries: No personal injury, but significant emotional and financial hardship. And Minor Smoke Inhalation and Asthma Estimated Property Damage: ~$300,000

    The product, in the report: The dishwasher is model SHE68T55UC/07, serial# FD950700238, however, the issue is really the junction box that hardwires many Bosch dishwashers to your home’s electrical. That part number for the Junction Box Kit is 11031987.

    I own a Bosch dishwasher. The power cord junction box that is provided by many of the Bosch dishwashers started to emit a burning smell. This junction box is included with the dishwasher and was installed by Lowe’s. An electrician removed the cover and the neutral was severely burnt and he told me that i was lucky there was not a house fiire. A simple search will many examples of burnt boxes exactly like mine. I did find recalls issued on the Bosch website specifically for the powercord, however, when I called Bosch the only thing they could offer is to send a technician. Interestingly, many reported that this happens about 2 to three years into the life of the product so by then it is out of warranty. The estimate to replace is $1100.00. I was very surprised at the lack of concern. You can purchase this junction box from Home Depot. While it has 4.4 stars, there are 22 individual images of burnt boxes in the reviews some from Jan of this year 2025.

    Bosch 4-1/4-ft 13-Amp Gray Dishwasher Appliance Cord with Junction Box (Model No. SMZPCJB1UC) overheated, burning and melting all non-metallic internal components including wire insulation. This was an optional purchase in conjunction with a new Bosch dishwasher. Homeowner became aware of the issue after the unit tripped the breaker switch which would continuously trip when reset. Post-event inspection of the junction box revealed that all wire connections were still intact and well secured.

    Usage of the Bosch 800-sesries dishwasher (and, thus, the junction box that failed) was light residential for a household of 2 senior adults (2-3 cycles per week).

    No injuries were sustained and property damage was limited to the internal components of the junction box and connecting wires. Damage to the wires was primarily inside the box with some darkening from overheating of the wire sheathing in both directions outside the box.

    Caller stated that the dishwasher is creating an atmosphere for mold to grown on the dishes when they are placed in the unit. She stated that mold seems to be growing on the plastic items. She stated that she rinses the dishes before placing them in the unit. She stated that there is no vent on the dishwasher and feels that this may be the reason that mold continues to grow. Caller stated that she noticed this incident a few months after installation. She stated that the dishwasher emanates an unpleasant odor. The dishwasher has been thoroughly cleaned out with bleach. Caller stated that she had an incident few months after it was installed most recent incident was few days ago. The manufacturer was contacted but they were unwilling to assist with the health hazard the dishwasher poses.

    UPDATED ON 10/4/2024: [Caller stated that the dishwasher develops mold on dishes inside and plastic-ware inside. I stopped using the quick rinse feature because I didn’t know if that could be causing this issue. I have been rinsing all things before placing them inside. I don’t run the dishwasher every day, usually 2x per week because it is not full. On one occasion I noticed mold after the dishwasher had run, and a second time before it had run. I took pictures of these incidents. I had a repair person come out for another issue while it was under warranty and I mentioned this to him. He didn’t say anything. I also told him that it always has a funky smell inside even though the filter is clean. I called Bosch again and they sent another repairman out. He looked at it and could not find anything wrong. He stated that he would talk with the tech people and call me in 3 days. That was almost 4 weeks ago. I called the repair people and they tell me they haven’t gotten a response from Bosch. After that last call to [REDACTED] I called Bosch and they tell me that the case was closed. The lady at Bosch stated that she didn’t have the paperwork though. I am still waiting. The repairman told me to leave the door open since it is a sealed unit. This unit does not have a vent. This is unacceptable, who is going to leave their dishwasher door open all the time. The manual did not state to do that either. I have never had this problem with all my prior dishwashers. Not to mention I am wasting water and time washing everything before putting the items inside. The book says I don’t need to prewash. This could be a serious medical issue, for babies and the immune compromised.]

    I am a disabled 67 year old woman. I’m afraid I’m being poisoned by ingesting a drying agent called zeolite leaking out of my new, top-of-the-line Bosch dishwasher. It is their new CrystalDry technology that uses the commercial adsorbent agent, which is an aluminosilicate compound. Aluminum is linked to Alzheimer’s. It apparently absorbs the moisture then blows the heat out to dry the dishes. After every wash, my dishes have rust colored gooey goop on them. It doesn’t rinse off. It has to be scrubbed with soap and water. The machine has been checked out by a third party, Bosch certified, service guy Bosch sent and has determined that it is indeed the zeolite escaping its chamber and being splattered all over the dishes. I have saved silverware with the goop on it because I am going to have it tested.

    Bosch however, categorically denies that there can be a problem with their new system even in the face of physical evidence and the professional opinion of the Bosch certified technician they sent. They say it must be hard water stains or the detergent, even though I sent them pictures of the gooey, goop substance on the silverware and their technician reported the water hardness was normal and saw I was using the recommended rinse aid and detergent. They are sticking their heads in the sand while I’m afraid I’m being poisoned all because they don’t want to admit they may have a big problem on their hands.. I’m being bullied by big business, so much so that they refuse to communicate via email. I contact them on the support website with all the information and they email back saying to call them for their decision. I email back that I want them to email me their decision. They simply ignore me until I call them. They say it is policy to not put anything in writing, all discussions and decisions must be over the phone and they refuse to be recorded. I’ve told them on the phone and also in email several times I will only communicate in email for documentation, but they refuse, citing company policy and if I want a decision from them on the dishwasher it must be on the phone. Doesn’t that sound like a cover-up? I acquiesced and called, but I have emails backing up the conversations and my numerous emails describing the problem to them. The machine is still under warranty, but they won’t change it out because they won’t admit there is anything wrong with it even though the repair person they sent said it is the zeolite (drying agent). This is a public hazard because I am eating off dishes that are contaminated with a chemical compound. I have read of other machines where the zeolite leaked out all over the inside of the machine. There are apparently many problems with this new system of theirs. They don’t want the public to know they might have a faulty system which might force a recall. They won’t change my dishwasher out. One time they tried to say they wouldn’t change it out just because I don’t like a feature, which is just an excuse. I told them it doesn’t have anything to do with that. It has to do with the fact that it is spewing out gooey goop all over my dishes that has to be scrubbed off with soap and water and they refuse to believe their technician or the physical evidence. It most certainly isn’t as simple as a hard water stain. This stuff has substance and is gooey.

    The dishwasher was installed Feb. 9, 2024. It’s been happening from the very first wash. I had done exhaustive troubleshooting before calling Bosch customer support Apr. 3, 2024. The technician came Apr. 17, 2024 and sent his report to Bosch Apr. 19, determining it was the drying agent escaping its chamber. I hadn’t heard anything from Bosch by Jun 24, 2024. I called the technician. He told me his Bosch field supervisor told him it was impossible it was the drying agent. I saw the email. The supervisor apparently killed my service request. I emailed Bosch Jun 24, 2024 and started all over again explaining about the goop, this time saying I wanted a replacement. I was told a technician would have to come out. We went back and forth. They finally said they would repair it Jul 6, 2024, even though they still won’t admit there is anything wrong with it. I asked them what were they going to repair if they say there is nothing wrong with it. They are just playing a game with me - the technician got the order, but his Bosch field supervisor is blocking the authorization again, saying it is impossible that it is the drying agent. The technician told me there is nothing he can do now. The end result, even though it is still under warranty, they won’t replace it and they won’t repair it even though the technician said it is faulty. The last official word was that they would repair it. The unspoken word is that the Bosch field supervisor won’t let the technician replace the zeolite chamber. The technician’s hands are tied and I have a dishwasher in my kitchen that I know is spewing out globs of zeolite - a compound of aluminum and silicon. Aluminum has been scientifically linked to Alzheimer’s. I have emails to back this all up.

Bosch service representative immediately found burned electrical connections inside the power cord junction box (Bosch Model SMZPCJB1UC). Bosch service stated that he finds burned junction boxes frequently. Online search for the problem shows dozens of smoldering and melted junction box failures. All connections were landed and tightened according to Bosch instructions.

    Service representative recommended that junction box cord get replaced with a under- sink plug and conventional cord “to be safe”.

    On 8/24/23 a newly purchased Bosch 300 Series dishwasher was delivered to my residence. The appliance was installed and began use on that day. Yesterday, 2/8/24, while the dishwasher was running we smelled something burning. After searching we found the burning smell was coming from the Bosch junction box/power cord (SMZPCJB1UC) below our kitchen sink. When touched the box was very hot and soon the dishwasher stopped running. We pulled the circuit breaker for the dishwasher to ensure safety. Upon opening the plastic junction box we immediately saw clear signs of burning and melting which seemed to have arisen on the connection block. I feel we were very lucky not to have experienced a house fire and loss of property - or worse. Bosch has been contacted and they will be sending a technician to remove the power cord and junction box but they tell me they will replace it with an identical, but new, junction box. Will this happen again? While checking on the current price of the item on both [REDACTED] I read in the reviews of other cases of burnt junction boxes of this type.

    On December 19, 2023, I turned my Bosch dishwasher on, and in just a few minutes I started smelling like something was burning. Tracked the smell to the dishwasher and noticed flames in the lower left corner. Called 911 immediately. The fire department came right away. Meanwhile, poured a couple of cups of water in that corner and the fire luckily went out. The firemen removed the dishwasher and stored it in my garage. There was no damage to any cabinetry. The only damage was on the dishwasher, where a piece of plastic was completely burnt and even made a hole all the way to the inside of the dishwasher! This indicated that the fire started in the dishwasher. The next day, I called Bosch and told them what happened. They opened a safety case and a technician came the next day to assess the situation. The technician confirmed that the fire must have started in the dishwasher, but could not tell how that happened since there are no electrical parts near that spot. He called Bosch and they asked him to send pictures and a report. He did that right in front of me. Eventually, Bosch called me and said that since it has been a bit over a year since I bought the dishwasher, it is not covered by the warranty and I have to go through my Lowe’s extended warranty. I argued that this is not a warranty case but a serious safety case. They said they understood, but I have to go through Lowe’s anyway. I was amazed by how they did not care to figure out what caused the dishwasher to spontaneously start a fire. Lowe’s did stand behind their extended warranty and gave me store credit that covered the price of a new ([REDACTED]) dishwasher and its installation. The Bosch dishwasher was hauled away. I still thought I should bring this safety issue to your attention.

Opened the Bosch provided power junction box and wires were black/brown, coating melted, plastic cable bridge blackened and “live” cable burned and separated at contact point.     We recently replaced a 2013 Bosch 800 series dishwasher that was damaged due to a lightning strike with a new 2023 Bosch 800 series dishwasher. It was installed two days ago and immediately we were overtaken by toxic fumes emanating from the dishwasher, I have multiple medical conditions which are worsened by exposure to chemicals, and I have been more ill and had multiple adverse symptoms since using this dishwasher. Upon smelling the toxic fumes emanating from the dishwasher, I researched, and found that there are many other consumers who have had this problem, especially with Bosch dishwashers, due to the Bitumen used as a noise insulator in dishwashers. Bitumen is a petrochemical similar to asphalt and is a carcinogen! Apparently dishwashers with stainless steel tubs and dishwashers that have the lowest noise output have some of the highest levels of Bitumen used in the product. It makes perfect sense to me since what we are smelling is a burning tar like odor. I suffer from chronic migraine and myalgic encephalomyelitis, both of which I am experiencing severe and disabling symptoms of since installing and using the dishwasher. Let me know to that because of my chemical sensitivity, we have the dishwasher outside for at least a week before installing it in an attempt to offgas any external chemicals. What we did not know was that the Bitumen used in this product actually begins to offgas as it is heated up during the dishwashing process. Even while the dishwasher is no longer in use, the toxins are still present in the air of my home. I am disabled and housebound so this is even more egregious and highly injurious. There is no way I can live with this dishwasher. We are attempting to contact the dealer from which we bought the dishwasher in order to find a reasonable substitution that has less of this toxic ingredient. We anticipate issues with returning the dishwasher because of the appliance store’s return policy. And from what we understand, all dishwashers have this petroleum-based toxic component, and as consumers we should be told this information before being harmed. We should all be able to make an informed decision about what we are exposing ourselves to, and especially for those of us who are disabled, and have severe reactions to VOCs , it is especially important. This borders on an ADA violation.

The dishwasher has operated in our home for just over three years before its power supply caused an electrical fire ceasing the operation of the dishwasher.

    On or about 9/3/23, A Fire occurred in the electrical power supply box for the Bosch dishwasher Model SHPM78Z55N/01 serial number FD000801005 purchased and installed in mid-August of 2020 for typical homeowner use in normal conditions. The inside of the power supply box included with the purchase of the dishwasher from Bosch is severely charred and melted. We are fortunate that it was not worse.

    Dishwasher door fell open in an uncontrolled manner and struck my knee causing injury. Investigation showed that the spring mechanism that controlled the opening of the door had failed. With a failed spring mechanism the heavy door falls down very quickly and with significant force. This could killed or seriously injure a small child in the vicinity of the dishwasher door. The spring mechanism contained plastic parts that had failed. Plastic should not be used in this application as it is known to degrade overtime in warm moist environments, be susceptible to environmental stress cracking and/or fatigue. This is a design defect by Bosch- improper materials were specified and used. Internet search shows that this is a common failure mode.

    3/31/2023: The dishwasher caught fire in the caller’s mother’s home.

    The 79-year-old mother started the dishwasher before going to bed. She woke up in the middle of the night to the home filled with smoke. The mother went to the kitchen and there were flames and smoke shooting from the dishwasher. She used her cell phone to call the fire department.

    The fire department came and extinguished the fire, but there was extensive damage to the home resulting from the fire. The kitchen floors and cabinets were burned, along with all the counter-tops and the kitchen plumbing. Furthermore, the entire home had substantial smoke damage.

    The caller’s mother sustained severe smoke inhalation and was placed on a ventilator for 2 weeks. The mother was also placed on a feeding tube, because after the ventilator was removed, she could not talk or swallow. The mother had to be placed in a nursing home, because they could not have the home restored at this time.

    The caller contacted a local restoration company and was given an estimate that it might cost more than $20,000.00 to clean up the home and this did not include replacement of the floors, cabinets, and counters.

    The power cord on my Bosch dishwasher overheated and the plastic junction box began to melt. This happened while the dishwasher was running on a normal cycle. It could have caused a fire. Luckily, I smelled the plastic melting and we shut off the dishwasher. No one was injured. I contacted Bosch to see if the product was included in the October 2017 recall and they told me it was not one of the models included.

    While removing dishes from my Bosch dishwater I felt like a razor had cut through my thump? I was surprised when I looked down at the “posts” that hold the dished in place to find first that the rubber/plastic that coats these posts had melted and rusted razors protrudes out shooting straight up. I have included several pictures, though the may be hard to see. These are very scary to say the least. I paid a lot of money because I always trusted Bosc products. Even if there were some technical or industrial reason for these razors, It is deeply disturbing to see these and know the could easily inflict great pain if you din’t know they were there. This dishwasher is in my kitchen. It is used daily. First why would the coating melt and second why are there razor blades installed?

    When the Bosch dishwasher was delivered by Home Depot, it did not include the plug and service box required for installation(perhaps to avoid liability for fire in light of earlier recalls for what appears to be a similar problem?). I purchased the required box from Lowes for $20.00 and installed the diswasher which worked without problem for six months. On Thanksgiving, after the third load of dishes the dishwasher stopped operating and it was noted that a burnt smell was coming from the box which on inspection showed considerable fire damage. I turned off the breaker and after noting that the Lowes website showed a similar burnt box in their consumer comments to the plug and box, contacted Bosch who offered to send out a repairman withing 48 hours at no expense and then later explained at my expense if the problem was “my fault”. The repairman came on the 28th and immediately stated that the problem was not uncommon and was due to the fact that the box permitted the service wire to invisably enter the contact below the clamp and thus not be secured when the clamp was tightened. He charged me $336.01 including $89.00 for the identical clamp which Bosch is refusing to reimburse on the grounds that the problem was my fault.

    The dishwasher was in use for approximately 20 minutes, when the consumer noticed a burning odor. He opened the dishwasher, saw it sparking and immediately closed it. The dishwasher began to emit smoke. He opened the door and that stopped the dishwasher from operating.

    He checked on-line and called the manufacturer and they confirmed it was part of CPSC Recall# 09-100. They referred him to local service companies and he called 3 of them, but all of them were out of business. He called the firm back and they provided additional service companies, but they were further away from him. Finally, the firm’s rep. (name unavailable) told him that they would offer him a rebate towards the purchase of a new dishwasher.

    The consumer questions whether the firms are permitted to do this and not repair it, since it was actually recalled.

    He’s never had any problems with it in the past.

    The dishwasher was in the home when he moved in, so he is not sure of the purchase date or dealer.

    Bosch dishwasher SHVM88Z73N/01 is a safety hazard due to the plastic mechanism that allows the door to open at varying positions breaks and the door flys open. If you have your hand in the normal pull position the door is so heavy and opens so quickly with no assist that it severely injures your hand and fingers. Furthermore, if your child were next to you or under foot, as they always are, the door would come down very forcefully on them. We own two of these dishwashers and the same thing happened with both of them within months of one another. With this particular model you have to replace the whole dishwasher base due to the design; so we were told by the service technician. The technician removed our dishwasher and took it back to their service location for repair. Because both dishwashers broke clearly due to a design flaw, to pay to have the base replaced only to have it happen again a year later is ridiculous. However, because this is a safety concern when we have out of town guests who forget the door opens forcefully, we feel it has to be addressed before someone is seriously injured; biggest concern a child being struck.

    I have a Bosch 500 series dishwasher (SHX65T55UC/07) and it stopped working and reported an E27 error code. This code refers to not having the proper voltage to the dishwasher. This seemed odd since the dishwasher has been installed 7 years with no issues. In troubleshooting the issue, I took the cover off the junction box that connects the house wiring to the dishwasher power cord. The inside was all charred and the white wire’s insulation was completely gone. I [REDACTED] Bosch dishwasher junction box and found out I’m not the only one who has had this issue and, there is a recall on Bosch dishwashers. I bought the unit in 2015 and my serial is just a tad higher the ones that are in the recall. Bosch got it wrong and needs to expand the models that are part of the recall.     Bosch had a recall from January 2008-January 2017 for burned out power cords Exactly what was wrong with my Bosch dishwasher. After the repairman found Problem on Oct. 1 and rewired.

    I contacted Bosch. They sent a technician out on November 18. He told me about the prior recall and said he had seen this a lot. He fixed the Problem correctly based on his past experience. I contacted Bosch again Requesting that they refund my first repair bill since my dishwasher should Have been included in the recall because it had the exact same problem. Bosch Refused.

    I am contacting your agency about this so you can have a recall on this serial number. I am not concerned about a refund of my first repair now it’s about safety. I have the Original power cord and box that has the brown burn marks proving it was a Burn out power cord that could have caught my cabinet on fire. The technician Also said he would be filing documentations with Bosch.

    I noticed a burning electrical smell coming from under my sink. We thought it was just a one time thing until it happened again when running our Bosch dishwasher. We called Bosch for service but after multiple call backs and hours of hold, they reported they had no contractors available in our service area and would forward our issue to a manager. While waiting for a response, we investigated under our sink and found that the junction power box connecting our dishwasher had actually caught on fire and was charred. We removed the junction box/power cord unit and called Bosch to report our findings. We are currently waiting to hear back.

    Bosch dishwasher power cord recall provides to customers a power cord replacement which is also defective and provides a fire hazard. Bosch dishwasher: Model: SHX68T55UC/01 - FD930601073.

    As part of a recall announced in 2017, Bosch sent to my house in November 2017 a technician to replace the power cord on my dishwasher. The power replacement includes a junction box which is connected to a wire coming from the circuit breaker panel.

    On January 3rd, 2022 we noticed a plastic burning smell coming from behind the dishwasher when operating. After turning off the power to the dishwasher, we inspected the junction box and found that the terminal block in the junction box had overheated and was the source of the burning smell. The junction box terminal block as well as the wire connected to it had started to overheat and burn. The initial feedback from Bosch (provided to me over the phone and restated by Bosch in all similar complaints) is that a loose connection could trigger this type of overheating and burning. However, connecting securely a wire to a junction box is electrical installation 101 and I am doubtful that an electrician sent by Bosch would not care of setting those connection securely. In addition, one finds dozens of such reports on the internet and in the CPSC safety reports database. So, the junction box that Bosch replaced as part of their recall just started to burn out. Is the junction box as defective as the initial junction box they replaced (which I believe it is), or did the technician left a loose connection after replacing the junction box? In both alternatives, how can I trust Bosch to provide me with a safe and reliable solution to this problem? How come their junction box is not UL listed? I have called Bosch support, requested to talk to a supervisor and have been waiting for several days for a call back. The fact is Bosch junction box replacement under their recall almost burned my house but they don’t seem to care.

    12/1/2021: The dishwasher had been in operation for approximately 90 mintues when a loud popping sound caught his attention. He went into the kitchen, opened the cabinet and found that the dishwasher’s power cord was severely melted. However, the breaker for the dishwasher did trip in this instance.

    There is a box connected to the power cord (terminal box). He found that this box shorted out and caught fire. The damage was limited to the control box and there was a minor burn mark to the cabinet.

    On average, the dishwasher is used twice per week.

    12/2/2021: He called the manufacturer and reported the issue to their rep. (name unavailable). The rep. offered to send out a repair person, but the service call would have been approximately $280. The consumer pointed out that the problem appeared to be identical to the one in CPSC Recall# 18-013 and he should not have to pay for the repair. The rep. said that someone would call him back. Later on, the rep. called the consumer back and said they would send him a replacement cord at no charge, but would not cover installation. Since the cord simply is plugged into the dishwasher then into the wall outlet, the consumer indicated that he can install it himself.

    The consumer is also concerned that CPSC Recall# 18-013, may be more widespread than the models/dates listed in the recall.

    Caller stated that while he walked passed the dishwasher while the door was open, he received laceration to his left leg. He stated that he applied first aid to the wound as a retired physician and advisement from his physician. At the upper outer side of the unit the corner has a sharp finish and is exposed when the door is down and opened which causes this incident.

    Caller stated that the wound has not healed as yet. (12/15/21)The manufacturer was contacted and he was advised that a supervisor would contact him but he has not received a response as yet. Caller feels that this dishwasher is a safety hazard and should be reported.

    A dishwasher appliance caught fire. Our dishwasher started smoking heavily, thankfully we noticed as this happened during the day. We managed to unscrew the retainer brackets, pull the dishwasher out of it’s nook and immediately disconnect the power cord. However, the burning appliance could not be moved further, since it was still connected to water and discharge hoses. It took a brief moment to identify the source of the smoke, and we noticed flames inside the appliance housing, on the rear bottom right hand side. After ripping off the metal housing, we put out the fire, which was burning the insulation and plastic, with a water sprayer. A fire extinguisher was on hand, but we didn’t resort to using it. Apart from the dishwasher, the main damage was from soot deposits to cabinets and wall, and a strong chemical smell remains. Without a doubt, had this happened without us noticing immediately, the kitchen, and ultimately house, would have caught on fire. We usually run the dishwasher late in the evening using the time delay, but miraculously this happened during daytime. Take home lesson was to make sure everyone knows the fire extinguisher location.

    We purchased a Bosch dishwasher on 9/1/15. We realized on 9/21/21 that it was severely leaking. We had to cut they drywall 12 inches from the floor due to growth of black mold. The insulation was treated with bleach and the drywall was discarded. We contactd Bosch and they offered suggestions for an approved repair company. We chose Mr appliance and she confirmed the leak from the tub area.

    Report Updated 10/13/21:

    The question I want to change is “could anyone get hurt from this issue”. I answered no, but the more I thought about it, the answer should have been yes. My wife has been diagnosed with asthma. Black mold could affect respiratory functions in people with low immune systems and asthma. I don’t have asthma, but my chest was tight and I experienced slight discomfort after I cut out the moldy drywall and discarded it.

    Report Updated 1/31/22:

    Mr. Appliance which is an authorized Bosch repair center came to our house on two visits. The first visit, the technician thought the leak was from oversudzing. She told us how to rectify, but a pump was bad and needed to be replaced (at our expense). On October 11, 2021 the technician from Mr. Appliance came out to install the new pump. I had set up the dishwasher and ran it with no soap to show the technician the major leaking coming from the right upper side of the unit. At that time the technician determined there was a tub leak. The technician said she would update her report. In the pictures I submitted, you can see there is a great deal of water accumulating in the bottom. The water is not soapy. I know because I had to use a baster to suck the water out of the bottom as evident from the original pictures. There were never any bubbles.

    Our last dishwasher cycle leaked a small amount of water mid cycle. The next time we tried to run a cycle, the control panel failed to power on. A service repairman diagnosed the problem as a fire in the junction box of the cable that came with the washer. It incinerated all 3 cables inside the box and burned a small portion of the wall behind the dishwasher. I called Bosch the next day to report the incident and ask for support even though the washer was outside warranty. It was then that I realized there was a recall for this exact problem. Bosch informed me our washer was not included in the recall. They said they’d review this with management. Obviously we were lucky we did not have a house fire.

    I noticed a burning smell coming from the rear of my Bosch 800 series dishwasher. I stopped using the dishwasher and called Bosch. They sent a repair technician out who found a faulty junction box with the neutral wire burned out and the inside of the box itself blackened. They advised me it was a major fire hazard and I should reinstall the dishwasher with a power cord instead of the junction box. The technician said that he “sees this problem every day”. This is very concerning because other dishwasher models have been recalled for a fire hazard issue, but not my model. If I wasn’t home this could have caused a fire.

    The dishwasher was repaired under CPSC Recall #18-013, prior to the date [Approx Sept. 2016] of the recall, for the exact same problem in the notice. The dishwasher’s power cord burned out. The consumer contacted the manufacturer and arranged for a technician to come out. The tech. replaced the power cord and the consumer paid for that repair.

    In December 2020, the consumer noticed a leak from the dishwasher and she called the manufacturer to schedule a repair. The tech. serviced the dishwasher and replaced some of the door springs, which he claimed were recalled.

    5/2021: The dishwasher’s door, no longer stays open on its own. The consumer has to pull out the dish racks in order to keep the door open. Furthermore, the door now closes with extreme force.

    The consumer said if young children or pets were near the door, it could present a substantial safety issue.

    5/2021: The consumer called the manufacturer about this problem and they sent out the same exact technician. The technician checked the dishwasher and said that there is nothing he could do, because he installed the appropriate springs. Nothing else transpired.

    The consumer called the manufacturer again and voiced her concerns, but the call was disconnected. She also sent the firm an email with her concerns, but nothing was done.

I turned off the unit and shut off the breaker. Upon removal of the control panel cover I found the back of the control panel was black and burnt. Had I not been home there is no doubt there would have been a substantial fire. In contacting Bosch I was told there is no recall concerning this model and serial number

    Our 2012 Bosch 500 series dishwasher caught on fire while it was running. This model is not part of the Bosch power cord recall. When we opened the dishwasher door there was no indication of fire and there was some water in the bottom because the cycle had not finished. Smoke was coming out between the top of the dishwasher door and counter. We had to use a fire extinguisher to stop the fire and the smoldering would not stop until we pulled the dishwasher completely out of the house. There was a lot of smoke, and the smoke had a plastic like smell that burned our eyes. We cut power to the dishwasher with our circuit breaker before removing the dishwasher. My husband recalls that he thinks the switch to either the dishwasher or garbage disposal had tripped. Also, when we was pulling out the dishwasher, he saw sparks. The fire from the motor area burned the plastic, neighboring wires, insulation wrapping the dishwasher and part of the wooden cabinet which formed one side of the rough out. Based upon our photos, it looks like the fire started in the motor or perhaps even more likely the wires leading to it. I have photos which I sent to Bosch. My Bosch file number is [REDACTED]. Bosch did not give me any money and did not send anyone to inspect the machine. I sent photos and supplied all the information they requested. I hope Bosch takes this incident seriously because I actually really liked our Bosch dishwasher until it nearly burned down our house. I phoned Bosch several times and sent a series of emails. I received a lot of inconsistent responses from Bosch: they rejected my Sears receipt (yes I have it from Nov 2012 in its entirety) because Sears uses it’s own item number and not the specific Bosch model on the receipt. Then I was told that we shouldn’t have un-installed the dishwasher in order to have a technician look at it. This of course was absurd since our house was filled with smoke.

    I did not receive any compensation from Bosch. I did not have technician see the machine. I had no contact from their safety or product development or quality departments et al.

    We had a fire issue with a Bosch Dishwasher.

    We were washing a load of dishes like usual and my wife smelled smoke. Once she identified that the smoke was coming from the dishwasher and not a melted plastic dish, she called the fire dept for help. They were able to pull the appliance out and into the driveway. Once there, the appliance continued to smoke, so they tore it open further extinguished the fire.

    The only damage was to the appliance itself, but this was only due to the fast reaction of my wife. This could have easily turned into a major kitchen fire. Further inspection into the dishwasher revealed a capacitor that failed and burnt wiring and sound damping insulation.

    I did some research and did find Bosch dishwashers recalled in the period when mine was manufactured, but this model was not included. The model and s/n information is as follows:

    I have a Bosch dishwasher where the power cord caught on fire.

    I have called Bosch and they told me it is not affected by their current recall, so I’m guessing that their recall needs to be expanded before someone else has a fire due to their substandard power cord design.

    Unfortunately, they gave me a lot of runaround to address this issue of their product catching fire, because it wasn’t associated with the particular models / years included in the recall.

    What they realize but don’t want to admit, is that their power cord is fairly universal to their units and is packaged completely separately from the dishwasher, and so when you order a dishwasher from a store, the power cord they send with the dishwasher could have been in stock for a long time, and could be one of the units that was made poorly and will catch fire.

    Bosch’s concern appears to be minimizing the extent (and associated cost) of the recall, and placing a much lower value on people’s property and human lives. They know there are still a lot of these fire hazards out there.
