The product, in the report: Fisher Price Rock-n-Play Sleeper
I have a Fisher Price Rock-n-Play Sleeper and in the past couple of months as I would take the cloth cover off to be washed I had noticed that there was some BLACK mold growing in the hard plastic part. My son has recently been battling a cough and congestion that wont go away. I have discontinued use of this at this time as I cant get the mold to come off. I do believe that my son is suffering as a result of this mold issue and something needs to be done as the medical bills are growing.

The product, in the report: Fisher price my little lamb deluxe rock n play sleeper/napper
We just noticed lots of moisture and presence of mold in our fisher price rock n play sleeper used for our three month old son. We are very concerned as this has been our sons place for sleeping since he was born. The unit has been washed regularly. We found black spots of mold in a seam on the side and noticed that between the fabric and plastic was extremely moist. We discovered it because there was suddenly an odd smell to the fabric near the top where the pillow part is. We also noticed discoloration on the underside of the fabric.

The product, in the report: Fisher-Price My Little Snugabear Deluxe Rock n’ Play Sleeper, Multi-Color
Our child has been napping and occasionally sleeping in the Fisher-Price My Little Snugabear Deluxe Rock n’ Play Sleeper, Multi-Color. At our baby’s 3 month check up today the doctor mentioned that our daughter’s head is being molded flat, due to the rock n’ play, and because of this she may have to wear a helmet if her head doesn’t shape out correctly. We have two other children who have NOT used this product and have no problems with their head’s shaping.

No one hurt Made Dec 16, 2013, sent to the company Dec 24, 2013, published by CPSC Jan 16, 2014
The product, in the report: Fisher Price Rock N Sleep -
I have been using the Fisher Price Rock N Sleep for my infant every night due to an acid reflux issue. He has to sleep on an incline to fight the reflux, so this product has been great in that regard. I do, however, have an issue with the fact that the one we own has been recalled due to mold. We have (on numerous occasions) found large amounts of mold on the hard plactic seat and also on the fabric washable part. I do clean this regularly with disinfectant but the mold continues to be an issue and because my son has to sleep in this every night I would like to be able to return our current model for the newer model so that I am not constantly worrying about his health while using the product. I have photo evidence of the mold should that be necessary. Is this something that I take to my local retailer where we purchased the item? Or will I be sending it back directly to Fisher Price? Let me know how I should proceed in the recall process. You can contact me should you have any questions
Thank you, [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: I have the Monkey Themed Rock N Play Sleeper, I purchased it way after the initial Recall for rock n Plays, in June from Target in Medford. I noticed a strange odor on my 4 month old about 1.5 weeks ago each time I would get him up from nap. Today I pulled it apart and found the mold. Im worried my son may have developed a health problem from this as he has been sneezing a lot. I will have him checked out.
I purchased the Monkey Rock n Play Sleeper in June, It has repeadidly been taken apart to check for mold and have not noticed any until now. 1.5 weeks ago I started noticing my baby would smell sour and that he’d been sneezing and minor runny nose but never developed much of a cough although he did cough a few times a day. I though hed been developing a cold but then it never got worse or better. So today after the smell started to really bother me I took it apart and was shocked to find a large amount of mold growing. I am worried about health effects this has had on my 4 month old son and will have him checked out by his doctor as soon as possible. I will not be keeping this item, I need to exchange it as my son depends on this for sleep.

The product, in the report: Fisher-Price Snugabunny Rock-N-Play sleeper
I purchased a Snugabunny Rock-N-Play sleeper and my son has slept in it for eight months. I have a friend who wanted to purchase it from me. I discovered mold in the part where my son’s bottom rested. I was taking it apart to wash for my friend. I have washed it before and dried it in the dryer until it was completely dry and laid it out after to air dry, just for safe measure. I still ended up with a mold spot about the size of a quarter. Our home is not damp and nothing has ever been wet inside the Rock-N-Play.

The product, in the report: Fisher price Rock and Play- Tan, Bunny
I have been using the sleep and play product for the past 3 months for my daughter and I love it! However, today I discovered mold under the seat between the hard plastic and cushion. Black mold. After discovering it my heart sank because all I could think about was the coughing and sneezing she has been having. If this mold is the culprit of it all I can hope is that it will go away after I throw it out. I had washed it a week prior to today and there was no mold then. I tried washing the hard plastic part of it and the mold did not come out. In fact, it broke my washer!! Is there any way that this can be replaced, even just the one part??

The product, in the report: fisher price rock n play
My infant sleeps in a fisher price rock n play sleeper. I had already called the company & made a report with them & they directed me how to clean the product since I had found mold growing between the lining (which I remove & wash daily) & the rocker itself. I cleaned as instructed & the mold ended up growing back. My son had a skin irritation that turned into an infection and was placed on antibiotics for this.

The product, in the report: Fisher Price My Little Lamb Platinum Edition Newborn Rock n Play Sleeper -- Available via www.fisher-price.com
In April, two days after my son was born, I placed him in a Fisher Price My Little Lamb Platinum Edition Rock n Play Sleeper because it was labelled/marketed as a safe environment for an infant to sleep. (The Fisher Price website touts this product as “a perfect solution for sleep and play.”) He slept in this product day and night.
In late June, at his two-month checkup, he was diagnosed with torticollis and referred to physical therapy. Since early July, I’ve had to do a series of physical exercises designed to stretch taut neck and torso muscles with my son six times each day.
In August, my son was diagnosed with plagiocephaly/brachycephaly and referred to a cranial orthotist. Today -- his four-month birthday -- I learned that his cranial asymmetry is five (5) standard deviations above the mean, which means he’ll have to wear a helmet for 4-8 months, for which I’ll have to pay a minimum of $3000 out-of-pocket.
I am outraged at this product is labelled/marketed as a safe environment for an infant to sleep since I now know that my son’s injuries are the same as countless other infants whose parents unwittingly believed Fisher Price’s claims of safety. They should be ashamed, and this product should be recalled.

The product, in the report: Rock and play sleeper with the monkey on it
4 1/2 months ago I purchased the fisher price rock and play sleeper. I have washed the removable part about 3 times total and today as I went to remove this part I noticed underneath there were a few dark spots. As I examined closer I realized there was quite a bit of Mold on the sling part that holds him. This is very upsetting to me seeing that my infant son sleeps in this most nights. My son has had a cough for quite some time and I am very concerned this could have contributed to that. I am defiantly having him checked out by his pediatrician. I would not recommend this product because I believe the risks are too high. Nothing is more important than the safety of my son and this is just so disturbing.

The product, in the report: Soothe, nap or play! What makes this Fisher-Price Newborn Rock ‘N Play Sleeper perfect for newborns is that it’s extra deep with a structured insert that surrounds them in comfort and makes them feel secure. The seat is also inclined, which makes napping more comfortable for babies who need their heads elevated. And with help from mom, baby can rock the day away - soothe, nap or play! Other features include three-point restraint to keep baby secure, a toy for soothing & entertaining, and a washable insert for comfort and support. Plus it’s very lightweight, so it’s easy to move around the house.
I began using the Fisher Price Rock and Play Sleeper approximately 2 months ago. My newborn son had severe acid reflux and we needed to keep him sleeping at an angle to help prevent the spit up and reflux. Over the course of the past two months he has developed torticollis and brachycephaly. I decided to do an online search and found many other parents reporting the same results of them using the Rock and Play sleeper at night to help babies with reflux. I do not believe that limited use causes the same issues, but the product is listed as a sleeper and I feel that this is dangerous and a costly mistake! We now have to have my son go to physical therapy and be fitted for a [REDACTED] helmet to correct the two issues that arose.

This time there was mold under the cushion. My baby has been coughing, and i attribute this to the mold. i called fisher price after i noticed the mold today, and the customer service representative told me the website i could go to and find cleaning instructions on how to properly clean it. i am not sure how long the mold has been there. my baby has had a cough for about the past few weeks. i am planning on using the cleaning instructions provided to see if the mold can be removed. if not, i will no longer use this product.

The product, in the report: Fisher Price Rock ‘N Play
Infant patient of mine slept in a Fisher-Price Rock “N Play for the first several months of her life. At her 9 month examination, when she began to sit up, it was discovered that she had curvature of the spine. She was evaluated, and suspicions led parents to change her sleeping place to a flat crib with a mattress. The scoliosis improved quickly but did not go away. My concerns are that sleeping in an apparatus which maintains certain bodily positions for several hours at a time may promote abnormal curvature, which, even though it may eventually resolve, leads to expensive and unecessary evaluations and tons of worry.

The product, in the report: Rock’n’Play Sleeper by Fisher-Price. Brown and pink with butterflies. Has built up sides, sits the child slightly upright, and has a strap to secure the child.
As a result of using the Fisher-Price Rock’n’Play Sleeper, my daughter has a SEVERELY FLAT HEAD! I used the product as it was marketed and I feel as though it is not anything I did, but that the product isn’t a sufficient sleeper for infants. She only slept in it at night, and did not take naps during the day, but I would use it to let her lay and watch tv in. She slept in that from birth [REDACTED] until 4 months old. She does her tummy time, and now that she is sitting up she rarely is on her back except when she sleeps, but it’s to late to change the effects that this sleeper has had on her head. Being a first time new mom, I did not know any better and since Fisher-Price WAS a reliable name, I trusted that my baby would be safe using their product, BUT now I know better and I will NOT recommend this product to anyone! I think this should be taken off of the market until it is advertised an marketed properly and NOT as a Sleeper for an infant.

The product, in the report: Fisher Price Newborn Rock N Play sleeper
My son has slept in his Newborn Rock N Play since he was born in September 2012. In December my infant started to get what i thought was a normal cold. Wrong. He went to the doctors and they prescribed him Albuteral cough syrup. A week later the cough was not getting any better it was getting worse so I took him back into the doctors. That is when they prescribed him the Nebulizer which is a breathing treatment machine which he is required to do every 4 hours. That still wasn’t breaking up the congestion or making him any better. That is when the doctor diagnosed him with possible asthma. I heard about this issue with mold and the Rock N Plays so I removed the cover on mine and noticed a bunch of black spots which is mold! Now I am concerned that this may be the reason for my sons respiratory problems. I work for an Environmental firm and we test for Mold so I am aware of how toxic mold can be, especially to a newborn infant who’s lungs are still developing.

My daughter slept in this sleeper for 5 months. We started noticing that her head was bowing out on the side and the back was getting flat. our NP didn’t want to listen and we went to a different NP and got referred to a specialist now my 5 month old is getting fitted for a cranial helmet that she will have to wear for 23 hours a day for 5 months. Please beware of this product because this could happen to your child too. No she wasn’t born this way her head was perfectly round. The sleeper says for playing and sleeping comfortably in. She has acid re-flux and that is why we let her sleep in it at night so she could be at the perfect incline.

The product, in the report: Fisher Price Rock N Play Sleeper, yellow, purchased at Meijer 2009
We purchased the Fisher Price Rock and Play Sleeper from Meijer in the summer of 2011. After using it on a daily basis we noticed some black spots under the mattress. My husband assumed it was dirt we wiped it as best we could and thought nothing more. We continued using it until my infant was 10-11 months old. He had not reached 25lb. yet but was moving around enough I thought it best not to leave him in the sleeper. When he was 9 months old In April of 2012 he had his first respiratory attack. We were in the hospital for two days receiving breathing treatments and oral steroids. The doctors came in with a million questions after his rsv and flu swabs came back negative. They asked was he a premature infant, did he have a respiratory condition, was he under weight when born? All negative he was born a day after his due date, weighed 7lb 14 oz. and never had any problems with respiratory system. He had another hospital stay same thing in May of 2012 I believe. After May we stopped using the bed. We did continue to have what they call now asthma attacks. Not sure if my son was going to have asthma no matter if we had ever purchased this bed, or not. But it makes me think if it was the mold that caused the first attack that was pretty sever and that attack then damaged his lungs enough to cause more attacks makes me very upset.

My daughter has had a cough for the past 2 weeks. She has had rashes on and off since she was born and the doctor thought it was a milk allergy. She has not used dairy products since 1 1/2 months of age and has still had rashes on and off. This is probably why. We have been using this product since August 24, 2012.

The product, in the report: Fisher-Price Newborn Rock ’n Play Sleepers Newborn Rock n’ Play Sleeper R6070
Good evening,
I’m heart broken over a recent recall notice I received for my Fisher Price sleep and play rocker (recall below). My baby girl has had the rocker since birth. She has struggled with respiratory issues off and on, most recently serious enough for her to need a breathing machine. I believe the mold issue the sleeper is being recalled for contributed to her illness if not directly was the cause.
My other big concern is that even after cleaning the unit, mold still a few short weeks later. I think they need to get this product off the market or at a minumum warn consumers to wash and inspect the unit every day.

The product, in the report: Sleeper
June 2012 my newborn son slept in the product. A product that was recommended by several other parents to help my son’s Acid Reflux.
January 2013 he developed a cough, congestion, runny nose, watery eyes, restless sleeping, so I took him to the Dr. At the Dr. appointment he was diagnosed with an ear infection. My son is no longer in the sleeper because I saw dark brown mold, after learning about this recall.
I called Fischer Price (January 2013) to report and see what I needed to do or if there will be any long term health risks for my son. They were NOT helpful and took my information and said someone would call me since I took him to a Dr. Still waiting on a return call. VERY DISAPPOINTED with this outcome. My child got sick from their product and there wasn’t any remorse from the person I spoke with. I will forever be worried that this product has caused long term harm to my child (and other children).
I truly hope that something will be done about the produce (what about the families that will not know about this recall or clean the product and try to sell it - I don’t think that cleaning the product is enough) and the children that have called to report this product. We need someone to protect the children!

The product, in the report: Infant sleeper rocker. Holds up to 25 lbs.
My daughter is 6 months old. She has been sleeping in the sleep rocker since she was 3 months. Cleaned removable padding every other day, as well as the frame. Padding was washed in washing machine, frame was cleaned with a water/bleach solution. Mold marks are present, and have been, even with cleaning. 2 weeks ago I was in the emergency room all day with my daughter for a severe respiratory virus. I’m sure it’s not a coincidence. She no longer sleeps in her rocker, but telling us how to clean it isn’t helping, as I’ve cleaned it thoroughly since day 1. A mold stained rocker is no good to myself or anyone else.

Our 8 month old baby has been having respiratory problems for the past week or so - wheezing, coughing, nasal congestion. We took her to the doctor last week, and they put her on a nebulizer because of the wheezing. Although we have been using the nebulizer, the wheezing did not seem to improve. We have just learned of the recall of the Fisher Price Rock “N Play Sleepers due to mold and checked in between the two pads of the Rock ‘N Play currently in our infant’s room and fold mold there.

I heard about the recall on the news yesterday so I immediately checked my daughter’s Rock’n Play Sleeper. Sure enough I removed the pad and found mold on the support material attached to the frame near and around the belts, however the mold was not on the removable pad. I wash the removable pad regularly and I always put a blanket under my baby every night when she goes to sleep. I disagree that the mold is due to infrequent washing because I wash the pad regularly. I assume the mold is created from the sweat/body my baby gives off in her sleep.

My daughter has had an on going cough and congestion for 5 months now. She has been back and forth from doctor to doctor with no help. It just keeps getting worse and worse with no answers. Today I found out that the cradle that she sleeps in, the Rock ‘N Play Infant Sleeper, has been recalled due to risk of exposure to mold. As soon as I found out, I took my daughter out of her cradle and checked for mold between the layers of bedding and sure enough, it is there. I am talking to the doctor tomorrow to find out if I need to do anything further besides moving her to a different bed. She has been to the doctor upon several occasions and feel that at the very least, my family should be compensated for the medical expenses.

The product, in the report: This product is similar to a bassinet. It rocks but is slightly inclined, which is helpful for babies with acid reflux.
I removed the removable cover from my Fisher Price Rock and Play sleeper to clean it because my infant had soaked through his diaper overnight and it felt damp. I found black mold growing on the hard plastic base. This was the first time I had done this, but this was the first incident where I thought the cover felt damp, so I am not sure what could have caused the mold to grow. It was a significant amount of mold and so I disposed of the entire thing immediately because I did not think it would be wise to clean it. I have since bought a new Rock and Play because I truly believe that it is a good product, especially for babies with reflux, but I think that the design it flawed because it is not easy to clean. I remove the cover very frequently now, and do immediately if the baby soaks through diaper. I put the removable cover in the washing machine but the hammock part is not removable, and so difficult to clean.

The product, in the report: Fisher-Price Newborn Rock n’Play Sleeper Product: R6070
Upon reading about the Fisher-Price Newborn Rock n’Play Sleeper recall, we inspected our product to discover that it is covered in mold underneath the removable seat. Our 4 month old daughter has been sleeping in this since birth. We have noticed recently that she has a persistent cough and congestion, and the pediatrician suggested that maybe she had an allergy to something in my diet (as she is entirely breastfed). I have removed all potential allergens from my diet and she is still exhibiting the same symptoms. I am almost positive now that it is from the mold. I am taking her to the pediatrician today to be evaluated. I spoke to Fisher-Price this morning and all they did was point me towards a document describing how to clean the product (which we do regularly). I told them that my daughter was sick, and they told me to take her to the doctor and then call them back and they “may be able to help us out with that.” I am livid! I asked if the product was safe to use after cleaning, and they assured me it was, but I never want to touch the thing again! And I want my money back!

Mold is growing on the liner of my Fisher Price Rock and Play new born sleeper. My infant son has had a cough for 3 weeks, we’ve taken him to the doctor about it and even had chest x-rays. We didn’t link the cough to the mold until now.

I’ve been having to take my 8 month old baby to the emergency room 3 times already. The doctor said it was a respiratory infection and ear infection. My baby is still sick. The medicine hasn’t helped. Now it all makes sence.I was watching the news earlier and it shows my baby’s rock n play sleep bed is on recall for mold under the bedding. I would like to report my situation and also need help on what I can do.

The product, in the report: Fisher Price Rock and Play Sleeper
I received as a baby shower gift the Fisher Price Rock and Play Sleeper. Per the packaging, the product is approved for night time sleep. We used this product for our daughter (now 6.5 months old) for approximately 4.5 months. She slept in a bassinet at night and would be transferred to the Rock and Play after her first feeding of the day. We liked how it was at an incline (much like a car seat) so it kept her somewhat upright after her feeding. We also used it for her daytime naps.
We bagan to notice a flat spot had developed on the back of our daughter’s head. Looking at the angle of the sleeper and where her flat spot is located, it is most definitely the result of this product. After making this discovery, I’ve seen MANY online reviews stating the same consequence on other infants and warnings from pediatricians regarding this product.
I contacted Fisher Price and was told we can return the product for a refund. I was read a “script” by an associate informing me of the increase of flat heads in infants since the “Back to Sleep” campaign. This product keeps the infant snug, in one spot, with limited ability to move their head from side to side, thus constant pressure on one part of the skull. Fisher Price needs to warn parents that this product should NOT be used for nighttime sleep! Just as a car seat should not be used for long periods of time, neither should this product!
Our daughter now must wear a remolding helmet for 3-4 months to correct her skull deformation. It will be an out of pocket expense of $1500 to our family and a 5 hour drive twice a month to have it fit. The financial aspect is a small part of my sadness, having to see my baby in a helmet every day for up to 16 weeks breaks my heart.
I hope Fisher Price is required to provide a warning on the packaging or redesign the product so other parents and babies never have to go through this unnecessary heartbreak.

The product, in the report: Newborn Rock n’ Play Sleeper in Tan, Exclusive for Babies R Us, is a unique portable sleep seat for newborns, with a wonderful rocking action and secure inclined position for babies who need it. Its frame rocks gently with a push from mom, and includes very soft fabrics. The sides have breathable fabric plus a pocket on the end, and it collapses easily to bring along on visits or trips. For entertaining, there is a soft toy with wonderful textures and rattle beads.
We purchased our Fischer Price Rock and Play Sleeper in February 2011 for my newborn son this product was recommended to us by several other parents to help our son with GERD/Acid Reflux. He slept in the sleeper since we purchased it. Starting in September he developed a cough, congestion, runny nose, so we took him to the doctor. At the appointment we were informed that he had two ear infections and that the other symptoms were probably due to allergies since there was no fever. They prescribed him antibiotics and sent us home. Ten days after finishing the antibiotic he was still not better so we took him back to the doctor for the same symptoms. Again he still had the double ear infection at this time they prescribed a different antibiotic. We finished this one and went back because he wasn’t better. They prescribed another antibiotic and told us that if this does not clear it up then they would have to do the [REDACTED] shots and then at that point if it was not clear he would need tubes. That night when we went home when my husband was putting our son in the sleeper when he noticed an odor coming from the sleeper. We took it apart to wash it and found black mold from the top (where his head would go) all the way to the bottom part of the sleeper. We immediately removed it from our home and our son is no longer sleeping in it. Since removing him from the sleeper his respiratory problems have cleared up, but we are still battling the ear infections. The Pediatrician said that the mold would definitely cause the symptoms that he was having. Our son had to do the [REDACTED] shots (1 shot for 3 days) and is on another antibiotic and getting ready to have tubes. So my son has been sick now for almost three months now on something that could have been prevented.
We Googled Rock and Play Sleeper and were astonished to find pages of complaints from other parents regarding this product. I wish I had read the comments sooner because I would not have purchased this product.
We called Fischer Price and complained to them and they just want us to send them the sleeper. They didn’t offer an apology that their product caused our son to get sick or anything. We trusted that Fischer Price made quality products and have found that to not be true.
I am very upset that this product has not been recalled mold is not something to play with and with so many complaints I am having a hard time understanding why. The mold could have caused my 9 month old son to develop pneumonia or could have died from it. I have alerted everyone I know of to not purchase this product. I hope you will take my comments seriously and pull all of these products from the shelf immediately as I do not want anymore infants getting sick from this product.

The product, in the report: Fisher Price Rock N Play sleeper
Every morning my 5 month old daughter wakes up crying after sleeping all through the night. She is a reflux baby so she naps and sleeps in her Rock N Play (made by Fisher-Price). She is always buckled in when in the Rock N Play for safety purposes. When I heard her crying this morning, I went into her bedroom and was shocked and terrified at what I saw. I frantically rushed to the Rock N Play to untangle my 5 month old daughter who had fallen out of the sleeper but had her leg tangled in the safety restraint. The restraint had cut off the circulation to her left leg from her knee down. She was hanging upside down and her head was barely touching the ground so the restraint really had a tight grip on her calf. Based off of the coloring in her cheeks, she had not been hanging upside down very long, but for this to happen at all is a nightmare! I am saddened that I trusted this product yet it led me to find the horrific sight of my infant daughter hanging upside down. I am just beside myself and so is she. She has clung to me all day and wakes up from her naps frightened. Recall this product now before something worse happens than a strawberry and a burn on her leg from her trying to get loose. This was the scariest day of my life thanks to Fisher-Price’s Rock N Play sleeper.

The product, in the report: Fisher Price Rock n Play Sleeper, used as a bassinet.
The product is called Fisher Price Rock n Play Sleeper. My son has been using since he was born on [REDACTED]. After 3 1/2 months of use i noticed that his head has become extremely flat of the back. I am positive that it is a result of sleeping in his rocker. After researching the product more online i noticed that there are other parents that have the same problem, flat heads. His doctor is treating it with pillows trying to reshape his head but he could possibly need to wear a helmet to correct the problem. This product should be recalled.

The product, in the report: Fisher price newborn rock & play sleeper
I am not usually a busybody or the type to cry “danger,” but I have come across a product that seems so dangerous on its face that I needed to make sure you all knew about it. I do not own this product; I was considering buying it for my baby until I read the reviews online and noted that many parents, who are using the product in the manner that it is advertised for, are ending up with babies with serious and lasting injuries.
The product is the Fisher Price Newborn Rock & Play sleeper. It is billed as a safe, comfortable place for a newborn to sleep, built so it’s height is level with a bed for easy nighttime care. The literature advertising the sleepr states that it is meant for overnight sleep, nap time and even play time during the day.
Unfortunately, it seems that many, many babies are ending up with Torticollis and flattened heads after using the sleeper. In fact, i have a friend whose niece can no longer even turn her head after using this sleeper for some time. There are literally dozens of reviews on amazon.com mentioning this problem.
I know that, having decided against buying this sleeper, I have absolutely no standing to complain about the product. But the thought that it is out there, still being sold when it harms kids whose parents are using it exactly as intended, really bothers me. I needed to at least make sure you guys were aware of it.

The product, in the report: Fisher-Price Rock and Play Sleeper
The consumer has a set of fraternal twins that she believes may be experienced health and developmental issues to their neck and cranium, because of their sleep/rocker. The consumer stated that after her twins were born and brought them home they began sleeping in the rockers at times. The consumer purchased two identical products from an online retailer. The consumer stated that the product has a metallic frame with a hard plastic where a child would lay against. The hard plastic is covered by a fabric less than a quarter inch.
Over time, the consumer has not noticed any damage to these products but has noticed anomalies in her children’s development. The consumer first decided to take her children for a pediatric screening in June after noticing these abnormalities. The children’s pediatrician noticed the twins were developing Torticollis, a stiffening of the neck and Plagiocephaly, a condition characterized by an asymmetrical distortion of the skull. The pediatrician decided it was best to begin physical therapy for the twins on July 12th.
The children are seen for a physical therapy session 2 times a week for sessions 30-45 minutes each. The consumer was conducting independent research on Tuesday and found numerous comments and complaints from consumers whose children have developed the same symptoms. The consumer’s insurance is paying for the children’s physical therapy for Torticollis but the consumer is paying out of pocket for the treatment of plagiocephaly. The consumer’s twins were given an orthotic of cranial molding helmets for the plagiocephaly by the children’s cranial medical specialist.
These Helmets were prescribed on October 28 2011. The children began wearing the helmets on November 15, 2011. The consumer called the firm on Wednesday to bring the issue to their attention. The firm seemed knowledgeable about the situation and requested the consumer send medical documentation about her children, stating that the product caused and perpetuated these health issues.
The firm also offered to refund her money once they can receive the products in question. The consumer stated that she does not feel comfortable in sending her children’s medical records to the firm. The consumer has not notified the retailer. The consumer discussed the issue prior with consumer reports who referred the consumer to CPSC.

The product, in the report: Fisher Price Rock n’ Play Sleeper - Split Rings design •Features: Padded Seat, Incline Positioner •Care and Cleaning: Machine Wash •Minimum Weight Supported: 5.0 Lb. •Maximum Weight Capacity: 25.0 Lb. •Manufacturer’s Suggested Age: 0-6 Months •Material: Cotton, Polyester •Dimensions: 21.0 “ H x 24.5 “ W x 32.0 “ D •Weight: 8.5 Lb.
We have purchased 2 Fisher Price Newborn Rock n’ Play Sleepers. We frequently change out the top cover to wash it. The top cover and the frame (with fabric on it) do not get saturated or stay wet. With both of the sleepers that we purchased mold began to grow on the fabric that is covering the seat and helps to support the top cover. Mold also began to appear on the safety straps near where they attach to the seat and come in contact with the fabric covering the plastic seat. As I said the seat and the covers do not get wet and the top machine washable cover is frequently washed and completely dried prior to being put back onto the frame. Since this fabric and the straps are not removable there is no way to safely wash the mold off and safely have an infant continue to use the seat.

The product, in the report: nighttime sleeper (like a bassinet) and playtime seat (link to product on Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Newborn-Rock-Sleeper-Yellow/dp/B002M77N22)
My daughter has been using the Fisher Price Rock and Play Sleeper for nighttime and naptime sleep for 6 months, since she came home from the hospital. The product is marketed to parents as “meeting industry safety standards for bassinets” and the packaging includes a photo of a mom in bed with her infant beside her in this product. After just 3 weeks of overnight use my daughter developed torticollis (a tightening of the neck muscles). She was not diagnosed until 4 months (but it is visible in pictures at 3 weeks) and we did not make the connection to this product until she was 6 months old, at which time we ceased using the product. Torticollis develops after use with this product because it forces the child to turn her head to one side. I made the connection to this product after reading numerous reviews on Amazon.com of many other parents reporting the same condition after repeated nighttime use. Treatment of this condition requires months of physical therapy and has delayed my daughter’s physical development. My daughter has also developed a flat head that has been shaped by the hard plastic backing of the product. While hers is not severe, many of the Amazon.com reviewers report severe flat head problems.
