The product, in the report: Samsung TV Model: UN50F6350AFXZA
I bought a Samsung TV in February 2014. On December 8th, 2014 the TV started fire itself while I was watching. There was a big red flame behind my TV. I unplugged the TV so fire has stopped. Luckily, there was no one got hurt or injured.
I called to Samsung customer service and they said they are not going to take the product. They can only fix the TV.
My main concern is when the TV starts fire itself, it might happen again and there is no guarantee. I live in 70 unit condo building. I don’t want to burn down the whole building because of my TV. I am not comfortable using this TV in my home. Samsung company doesn’t even care about this situation.

Updated from 9/30 submitter consent (wgm): I now have additional information that is related to this report. One week after the incident in which the 50” Samsung TV fell in my living room my grandchildren were experiencing stomach aches. Three of them stayed home from school and were seen by the doctor. The symptoms were headaches, body aches and vomiting. The doctor thought it was a virus. I assumed it was too. Then when I experienced the same symptoms and I lost 7 pounds in one day due to diarrhea, I knew it wasn’t a virus. the symptoms my family and I were experiencing was attributed to the plasma gas leaking from the damaged TV. Todays date is September 30, 2014 and we are still experiencing some symptoms especially with the lungs and stomach. I do believe this to be a sickness directly related to the TV.

The product, in the report: Samsung LED Television, 50 Inch SMART 3D. Model # UN50F6800 Black Frame with Chrome Legs
My son returned from vacation to find his UN50F6800 LED Samsung Tv face down on the floor the screen smashed. He has tried dealing with Samsung and Future Shop but to no avail. The stand is flimsy - a chrome branch style stand. I am concerned about safety of children and pets who could easily be injured by a falling TV. I believe a recall should be started as Samsung is not standing by its product and producing a substandard stand. I read complaints on numerous sites and some people have stated that they think the wrong screws were provided. He is frustrated by their lack of interest in his claim and I have decided to pursue other avenues in order to help him.

The product, in the report: Home television
Samsung Television model LN40C630K1FXZA. Glass base exploded with no warning or provocation on May 16, 2014. Purchased around July 2010. Was watching TV and all of a sudden heard a loud noise and pieces of glass were thrown out with great force into the air. The television did not show any signs of malfunction, there were no extreme temperature or forces to be a cause. The glass base stand just burst into many pieces which were catapulted into the air. Some pieces were thrown into sliding glass door 1-5 feet away. If a person was in the area 1-5 feet of television, they would have definitely been hit with bits of glass and possibly severely injured.

The product, in the report: 46 inch LED Samsung TV
The glass TV base of my Samsung LED 46” TV exploded sending shards of glass 15 ft across the room. I woke up to the mess in the morning. The TV was not on, and the last time it was turn off was 6:30 am the prior morning. It had not been on since.
I have 2 small children and am thankful this occurred overnight while they were sleeping and not watching the tv. I’ve seen reports of this on YouTube in videos, and my experience is exactly as they also report. Somebody is going to be seriously hurt.

The product, in the report: 55” Flat screen TV base stand
2/18/14- The consumer reported that his 55” LED flat screen television poses a safety hazard to the consumer because the supporting base of the television does not have any way to be anchored to an entertainment center. The consumer stated that although it does have the option to be installed on a wall mount, if positioned on a flat surface (using the included TV base stand) the Television can fall from the surface and injure the consumer. There have been no incidents with this product.
The manufacurer was not contacted. The product is not affected by a recall.

No one hurt Made Feb 9, 2014, sent to the company Feb 19, 2014, published by CPSC Mar 6, 2014
The product, in the report: 26” Samsung Television, Model #LN26C450
On April 7, 2011 we purchased a brand new 26” Samsung Television (model #LN26C450) from Amazon.com. The TV was set up on the stand, not the wall, and placed on top of a dresser. It has never been dropped, bumped, damaged, in any way.
Two days ago I was in my bedroom putting away laundry and had the TV on. After about 10 minutes I heard a sizzling sound, then saw sparks. There was smoke from the back of the set, then a loud “pop” and the TV died. A weird smell followed.
I do not believe that a TV of less than 3 years of age should have done this. Although I am very upset about the loss of money, I am more concerned with the fact that had I not been home, this could have resulted in a fire.
There was no storm outside at the time and the TV has always been plugged into a surge protector.
I would like the manufacturer to know that I am very disappointed in this product and quite concerned about the safety of it as well.

TV caught fire while being watched. TV screen suddenly went dark. The unit started cycling on and off rapidly emitting audible on-off signal and illuminating the on-off light under the TV screen. Then smoke poured out of the top and back with a very noxious burning odor. The unit was very hot--too hot to touch. It was immediately unplugged. The unit was carried by its stand and removed from the house. Smoke and fumes were evacuated from the house by opening windows and use of fans.

The product, in the report: Samsung 46” LCD TV
Samsung LCD TV model LNT4665FX/XXA was on working normal until a hissing/clicking sound was heard for 10 seconds followed by a very loud bang , along with a momentary fireball under the TV and smoke billowed out of the top, and of course the screen went blank. We quickly unplugged and carried the the TV outside and it continued to smoke for 10 minutes. This TV is hooked up to an expensive surge protector and there was no power surge in the house at time of incident. No injuries.

No one hurt Made Feb 23, 2013, sent to the company Mar 4, 2013, published by CPSC Mar 19, 2013
The product, in the report: The stand and stand guide for the Samsung Plasma TV model PN42C450B1D
The connection between the stand and standguide which comes with the Samsung PN42C450B1D television broke. There are plastic screw bosses in which screws are inserted to connect the two parts of the stand which is integrated with the flat screen tv. The plastic screw bosses broke in several places which the TV was moved and set back down.
This created a safety hazard as the flat screen TV could have fallen over and hurt someone especially a child. In my opinion, the design of the stand using plastic screw bosses to connect the two parts of the stand is too weak to allow for a reasonable amount of stress on the connection. Simply moving the TV and setting down again resulted in the break. I have contacted Samsung regarding the issue and they informed me that there has been no recall or other measures taken due to the poor stand design. Since the TV was purchased in 2010 and is out of warranty, they can be of no assistance. Initially, the representative with whom I spoke did not even offer to report the issue.

The product, in the report: Samsung 46” TV with Glass Base
My boyfriend and I went to sleep last night and heard a ‘boom!’ shortly after getting into bed. We didn’t hear anything after that, so we thought it was from outside. Unfortunately, we woke up this morning to find chunks and shards of glass all over the floor from the Samsung TV base. Turns out the ‘Boom!’ was the glass base exploding!! There were chunks and shards of glass everywhere- about 15-20 feet into two other rooms. This blow must have come with such force, as glass repelled backwards into an opposite room. We had not even watched TV at all during the day prior to the explosion.
It took about 30-40 minutes of two people cleaning to remove all of glass. When I was picking up the large chunks of glass off of the floor, the glass crumbled in my hand and shards punctured my skin, cut me and made me bleed. I can only imagine what would have happened if I was sitting watching TV when it had happened... Thankfully, my pets or my boyfriend and I were not hurt.
I have called Samsung and filed a claim and they will be calling me back within two days. I have also left a message with the store where the TV was purchased. Hopefully, they will do something to resolve the situation. This TV should be recalled.

Samsung has been contacted and will contact me within two days. Any type of recall for this type of event was denied by Samsung. I will not be satisfied with a replacement of the same part as I fear injury should it happen again. I have found numerous postings of similar incidents. I am curious what it takes to recall a product?

This does not appear to be an isolated incident. After this happened I started checking the internet. This has happened to other people as well.

I came home from work one evening to find my Samsung 46” TV base had exploded all over my apartment. There were shards of glass all over my apartment as far as eight feet. I was so baffled by how this could have happened I decided to do some research online only to find that this is a common (or more common than expected) occurrence. The only consistent thing I have seen in YouTube vidoes and other photos is the common exposure to sunlight. The TV was off and has no damage. The core of the base is still intact and thankfully there was no one around when this happened. If someone were within the range of the debris there could have potentially been serious injury from what I can tell. This is very hazardous and I think it is Samsung’s responsibility to follow up on this sooner than later before someone really does get hurt.

I was watching TV when the glass base on my Samsung TV exploded into a million pieces. Luckily I was sitting about twelve feet away. The glass flew about 10 feet in various directions. If a child had been sitting on the floor near the TV they would have gotten a face full of glass. It is also supposed to be safety glass but much of it was in small shards. I have called Samsung and they have told me there have been no recalls. I am still waiting for an answer on how they will resolve this. I note there are several incidences of this happening per the internet. It is a very forcefull explosion and extremely dangerous to anyone that is near it when it happens. Pictures are attached. Samsung has said they don’t need to see them (at least not yet).

My 3 month old Samsung 46” LCD 720hz 1080p tv lost the picture but the sound still could be heard. I called Samsung customer service 1-800-726-7864. As I’m on the phone with customer service the TV starts billowing out smoke from the back of the tv. A lot of smoke! I was afraid it would catch fire. I carried it outside and it continued to smoke. CS gave me a tranaction number [REDACTED] and wanted to send out a repair man. I told them I didn’t want it repaired it was a fire hazard. Thru several more phone calls to CS I was given a new transaction #[REDACTED] so I could drop it off a repair shop and find out what was wrong. Which I did and they repaired the TV. The repairman said the new replacement part was the same part # and type as the one removed so this one could also smoke out. I have been telling them on each phone call (at least 7 calls) that I don’t want it fixed I want to return it for a full refund. This SAMSUNG TV IS A FIRE HAZARD and is not worth the RISK TO MY FAMILIES LIFE or loss of my personal property. I wouldn’t trust having this TV in my house. I won’t even try to sell it because it’s not safe for someones else’s family. So now I have a Samsung tv that I won’t plug in or sell BECAUSE IT’S A FIRE HAZARD!!

The product, in the report: Samsung 42” plasma TV model: HP-S4253
My TV in the bedroom was turned on earlier today and while i was in the kitchen all of a sudden the fire alarm went on . I came to the bedroom and first noticed a poisoness smell but first I thought that its coming from my neighbors thru the AC vent and called conciege and notified him about this problem then few minutes later i’ve noticed clouds of smoke pouring down fom the corner on the room . Since my TV is standed on top of high cabinet right next to the AC vent , first i though that smoke is coming from my neighbor ( because AC was on and blowing the smoke away from the TV ) , also my TV was ON and working normal while the smoke was coming out ) . Building maintenance people came right away and couldn’t notice that smoke is coming from my TV either so they called fire fiighters to examine the entire building ) . At that time i turned the TV off and smoke still was coming out for several minutes after that . When fire fighters came , they checked every cable in my apartment , asked me about the TV and said that this poison smoke smell like some kind of cable or electronics burn and its a common thing in their experience that these kind of burns cause the fire in the house . I was lucky to turn off the TV almost right away or it could blow up and get my entire apartment on fire . I tried to turn the TV back on in about 1 hour after they left and picture and sound came on OK for about 10 seconds but the entire screen turned black but i still could hear the sound . I’ve tried to turn if OFF and back ON again with same results, then i just unpluged the TV and turned it around to examine . I smelled it and found out that burned part is located in the upper middle back side on the TV . I’m very concerned about the statement that fire fighters told me that this kind of burn could cause a fire in the house . I already searched your web-site for consumers reports about same TV model and already found dated in march 2011 . This guy reported the exact same smoke problem as mine . I also checked other web-sites and found quite a few similar burn and smoke problems on same model ,reported by consumers so it is clear to me that this is a common problem with this model ( Samsung HPS4253 ) and manufacturer should take some action such as recall or offer free or discounted repair on that model or at least free parts replacement . I’ve owned many different brands of flat screen TVs for years ( including the ones at my business location ) but i’ve never had any , even minor problems with any of them , except this one . Very upset and disappointed at Samsung ;( I paid total of US$2633 including very high % on my consumer 18 months loan and sure expected it to last little longer then 5 years ( not even mentioning that lived with my boyfriend for 2 years so the TV really was only used for 3years out of 5 ). For me , It is a pretty expensive purchase for just 3 years use as a second TV ( the main one from the living room ( also Samsung ) is still working , thank goodness ;) ... P.S. While checking for serial # on my broken TV , I just found out that it was made in Mexico . All other flat screen LCD’s and plasma TV’s I’ve owned in the past was manufactured in Asia and worked GREAT without any problems for years . I’LL NEVER BUY MEXICAN TV AGAIN !!!!

I was watching my television and it started smoking so I unplugged it. A few days later, I plugged it in again and got the same smell. I turned the tv on and there was a very slim picture that was split into three pictures in the middle of the screen. I have contacted Samsung concerning this matter and they sent a repair ticket over to TechPro Plus.On January 12, I was scheduled for today between 1 and 5 to have it diagnosed. Yesterday, I received a call from another agent with that company stating that the technician had some cancellations on his schedule and that he would be here today, January 20 between 8 and 12 instead. Approximately 10:15 this morning, I received a call from an agent named [REDACTED] with Tech Pro Plus stating they apologize for the inconvenience but they need to cancel my appointment because they don’t have a qualified technician to send to my house for repair. I, then, called Samsung and spoke with representative [REDACTED], who stated that she called Tanstel Electronics to schedule a diagnostic appointment for Monday.

The product, in the report: 32 in LED Television
*UPDATE: SAMSUNG TV BASE EXPLODES! The glass base of my 32” Samsung LED TV (UN32D5500) exploded sending hundreds of pieces of varying sizes of glass flying about the room. It also blew a paperback book and the remote control that were next to the TV base several feet into the room. The explosion occurred in the early morning hours of 12/4/2011. The TV was not on and had not been used for several hours. I was asleep in the bed that faces the TV. My head was only 9 1/2 feet from the explosion which sent glass shards as far as 11 feet to the right of me. I heard the explosion in the night but in my sleepy state I thought it was a huge gust of wind that had caused a branch to hit the house and had made the shutters bang. In the morning, I was shocked to find the base of the TV shattered with chunks and slivery shards of glass all over. Luckily, I was lying down; I was not sitting up facing the TV as I do when I am watching the TV. I could have been blinded or worse. As it is, I am quite shaken and more than a little nervous about sitting close to TVs. I am also concerned that I will never get all the minute slivers of glass out of my carpeting. I called the store where I had purchased the TV just the week before. I only got a recording so I went to the internet to see if this had ever happened before. I was astonished to see other reviews of the exact same thing occurring! There was even a video posted that looked precisely like the aftermath of the explosion that I had experienced.* I have since talked with Fry’s where I bought the product. This local store told me that they were unaware that such events were happening. When they looked on the internet and saw other examples for themselves, Fry’s promised to contact Samsung. Fry’s said they would seriously consider taking the product off the shelves in their stores. I contacted Samsung next. They said that my only recourse was to send in the TV under warranty. Samsung would then repair the base and send it back. The replacement base would be the same material as the exploded one because that is the base that comes with that particular TV. Evidently this is the only response others in the same predicament have had from Samsung as well. I said that that was not acceptable. I stressed that the base was extremely unstable and was going to result in dire consequences if not changed. I stated that they should not continue to sell such a defective product to the public. Understand that I am a great fan of Samsung. One might even say that I am a Samsung addict. I own several of their products. I love this TV. It is perfect for my situation. My only issue is with the base that seems to have an extremely serious defect. I am truly concerned that someone is going to be horribly hurt by one of these explosions. I am outraged that these products are still being sold to consumers as they are inherently dangerous. It is only a matter of time before someone suffers an irreparable injury. It is unconscionable for a large corporation to ignore these complaints and to continue to put consumers at peril. *see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LFzlc0lFcw
Consumer stated that the TV base exploded, shattering peices as fa as 11 feet and the force blew a TV remote and a book a few feet into the room. Large and small chunks/shards of glass were blown 11 feet into room. Consumer stated that this had happened to several of these products and that these incidents can cause serious injuries and should not be sold on the market. Consumer is concerned for the safety hazard of this unit and thinks it should be recalled.

The product, in the report: 65” Plasma TV Base
The glass base of our Samsung 63’ Plasma TV EXPLODED sending hundreds of pieces of glass flying in all directions.
The explosion occurred at approximately 8:00pm. The TV was not on and had not been used since approximately 10:00 pm the prior evening.
The debris covered a distance of more than 20’ side to side and 8’-10’ forward and back.
Thankfully we were not in the line of the explosion as we were just heading into the room to watch evening TV when the explosion occurred. It took us a minute to realize what actually happened.
My wife did sustain a cut finger when she picked up a piece of the debris before realizing it was all Glass chunks, pieces and shards. We collected most of the pieces and have saved them.
We did an internet search afterward and found similar incidents involving other Samsung TV products including video of the aftermath that was posted on U-Tube by someone.
