The product, in the report: Samsung Android Cell Phone Galaxy Light 8 GB
Elderly, disabled female was charging her Samsung SGH-T399 android cell phone and it caught fire. The battery expanded violently and emitted flames then ignited papers and other items on her kitchen counter. The cell phone battery cover separated from the phone and the battery came dislodged. The two cell phone pieces appeared undamaged. Charger was a Samsung brand. Fire damage occurred to the wall, countertop and to personal items. The female extinguished the fire with water from the sink. She was not injured.

The product, in the report: Samsung Galaxy S7, black
This weekend, my husband’s Samsung Galaxy S7 phone was sitting on a countertop, not plugged in, when suddenly there was a popping sound, and smoke began spewing out of the phone. My husband grabbed our toddler and ran out of the apartment, and my father used an oven mitt to take the phone onto our balcony. It was extremely hot, and was melting plastic onto the glove. It also melted through the case. We aired the apartment out, but it took hours for the smell to go away, and we had to scrub everything on the countertop (and throw a bunch of stuff away because the smoky chemical smell was so strong). We are so lucky that no one was hurt, and that our daughter didn’t breathe too much of the smoke, but it was a scary experience.

Hurt, no treatment Made Feb 4, 2017, sent to the company Feb 21, 2017, published by CPSC Mar 7, 2017
The product, in the report: Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
My Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge phone said it needed to update the operating system and I did it which took over an hour. I was surprised how long it took as I needed to make a call but was not able to on time. I was talking on the phone about two hours and had to plug it in so it did not go dead. I noticed ut was draining pretty fast and that was strange as the display turns off when talking and I had it plugged into a Samsung charger. but I had to end my call as it got too hot and noticed I was sweating just sitting talking and the person I was talking to informed ne my voice was cutting out. After the call my face felt strange and I put the phone in the freezer as it got so hot I could not hold it and it showed low battery but I could not turn it off and thr display was not responding. I went to the bathroom as I was soaking in sweat as the phone was so hot and had been by my head and I realized I had a red rectangle shaped on my face where the phone was and little water blisters. After the phone cooled down in the freezer I was able to recharge it as it had no charge and when I turned it on I could see the image of the keyboard was burnt into the screen. I over the next week noticed it no longer kept a charge for long and if left sitting doing nothing it would get really hot. I looked online and some suggested using an app to control the battery but it was no help. It keeps getting too hot and the temp shows it reaches 300 deg F. The battery drains super fast and the image of the keyboard is permanently burnt into the screen. Sprint where I got it said I have to pay $200 to exchange it saying its not repairable. Samsung the manufacture says I have to send it to them and wait up to 11 days and I had to buy a Tracfone as I already got the sunburn blisters so don’t want to have that happen again as I do not feel pain due to medication I take. I can’t be without a phone for weeks as I have medical issues and depend on it but my Samsung is neither safe nor reliable. Sprint said I am responsable to pay for my contract even if I have no phone to use on it. Now I’m stuck having to use my Sansung phone and limit how long and cool it in the freezer. Sprint nor Samsung seems concerned and even when I contacted Samsung telling them its so hot it burns my hands they asked I turn it back on to get them some codes off the phone and I explained its in the freezer and the battery is dead and said it burnt my face and I think its unsafe to turn on they asked I try anyways.

The product, in the report: Samsung galaxy edge 7 plus platinum
My samsung edge 7 plus gets extremely hot during use, it gets so hot that it can barely be held. Sometimes when it overheats and gets extremely hot it will.power down instantly interrupting use. In addition, my phone became so.hot at one.instance that when my daughter went to answer my phone and put it to her ear and face she dropped phone stating that it burned her face although no burn marks her face was physically red where the phone had touch her face and ear. I believe this is a major concern to be taken.into full consideration. I believe the heat and possiblity for phone to become so hot that it explodes or cause undue harm and pain is very likely.

The product, in the report: samsung galaxy s7 cell phone black case
The back camera glass shattered. There are numerous reports on line of this happening with the Samsung Galaxy S7 phone. I sent it to Samsung for repair since the phone had been a protective case and was never dropped. However Samsung says the glass was not defective and is charging $70.21 to fix the phone. Because the phone was not dropped or anything pushed into the glass cover it is a flaw in the device. And with so many people having this issue needs to be investigated. The broken glass could cause injury to the user.

I was sleeping and I heard my phone making the noise like it was being plugged in and out. I got up checked it out and found the cable secured to the phone just fine. I checked the charger base. This was so hot the plastic was melting. I immediately unplugged it. Had I not woke up I am sure it would have started fire.

The product, in the report: Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
I am writing to inform you that there have been numerous consumer reports of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge over heating and the screen cracking. My wife’s phone got so hot the screen cracked and burned her hand slightly. I have notified Samsung several times via phone as well as through the social media facebook page and all I get is the run around and they are quoting “because of the state of our company, we are not accepting any repair requests” and not repairing nor giving any alternatives for this hazardous device. I had sent my device in for repair and and they didn’t even have it a day before they packed it back up and sent it back to me un-repaired accusing me of damaging/dropping the phone. there is no sign of abuse on the phone. Finally they are having me send my phone in to reevaluate to possibly fix or replace it with another Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. I do not feel safe having one of my family members using this replacement phone and I think that the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge should be on a recall notice for over heating.

The product, in the report: Samsung Galaxy S5 16GB IMEI 357536/06/141483/7
Text of Consume’s message dated November 19, 2016 (excerpted):
After recent problems with the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 I was wondering whether Samsung should also recalled the Galaxy S5.
I had the misfortune to purchase the S5 only to experience the battery swelling so much that the face of the phone was detached from the base. Fear of the phone causing a fire I retumecl to T Mobile only to be told I definitely should not use the phone. I had to purchase another phone the Galaxy J7 for $520.35 (no rebate, no credit, no apology).
I am sure I am not the only one to have had such an experience with this defective Samsung Product, and fortunate not to have experienced an explosion or fire.
I have enclosed a photo of my phone showing the raised face. I am still in possession of this phone should further Investigation be required.

No one hurt Made Dec 2, 2016, sent to the company Dec 12, 2016, published by CPSC Dec 27, 2016
The product, in the report: Samsung Galaxy S7
On 11/27 I was prompted by my Samsung Galaxy S7 to download an update. I was driving on the free way and noticed a bad smell shortly after the update began. I tried to pick up the phone and the case was soft and warped, the phone was uncomfortably hot and the smell got so bad, my husband thought the phone was going to catch fire or implode. He rolled down his window and threw the phone in the back of the truck to cool it down(the weather was cold and raining) once we got to our destination, we grabbed the phone and it was drained from 99% battery to 19% battery in less than an hour but it remained cool as I did not use it or plug it in. The next day, in the car on my commute I had to plug it in to charge it and the smell came back, the phone got hot and melted a rubber portion and the buttons popped out on the sides. I contacted Samsung and after explaining what happened they instructed me to put the phone in a plain cardboard box and ship via [REDACTED] to Plano Texas. They said that using air mail would get it there in less than 2 days so they could take apart the phone before they would replace the phone since I bought it from Verizon, I told the Samsung employee a cell phone is business critical , I commute 5 hours a day and it is unsafe and I can not do my job without a phone for a week or more. She said that I should then take the phone to Verizon to get rid of it. Now, Verizon will not trade the phone in as it is a “potential Safety Hazard” and said I need to work with Samsung. If I pay out of pocket for a Smart phone, an est for a [REDACTED] is 800-900 or an [REDACTED] is 700-900. The Samsung is less than a year old and I fear that charging this phone unattended or leaving it in my house or car is a hazard and can not get assistance from either the seller(Verizon) or the manufacturer(Samsung). Is there any assistance available?

The product, in the report: Samsung S6 Active
I leased a Samsung Galaxy S6 Active from AT&T approximately one year ago, I have recently noticed the phone getting very hot when charging it, I have always used the charger that I got with the phone. Approximately 4 weeks ago I tried to unplug my phone and the charger and phone were so hot that it was burning my fingers trying to unplug it. The following day I used a heat sensing thermometer to check the temperature of the phone, I took pictures of the thermometer on the phone and it read 152 degrees, it was so hot it actually melted the charger. I contacted Samsung and the just tell me they are sorry, but to mail my phone back to them and they will look at it, but I will have no phone in the meantime, and even after all I have paid for this phone, they are not even sure if it can be fixed or it will have to be disposed of for safety reasons. I just want a phone that isn’t going to burn my home down or harm my family.

The product, in the report: Samsung Note 7 Original Version
Samsung Note 7 - Too hot to hold.
My girlfriend and I both purchased our Note 7s from Verizon the same day. Less than a month later we start to hear the reports about the recall on these phones because they are extremely dangerous.
We have gone into two different Verizon stores and called their 1-800 number several times and we get different answers every time we call. Verizon wants us to pay another downpayment for NEW phones when they haven’t refunded our previous downpayment of $340 that we made when we purchased these defective phones. We were told that our original downpayment would be refunded within 2-3 billing cycles. While we wait I can’t even hold my phones at times, because it is so HOT!
We have called Verizon’s 1-800 number and got a woman who said she would handle our issue and order us new phones, but once she gets to the end of the process she is stopped and told that we have to pay a second down payment!
When we call Samsung, Samsung wants to give us the full amount for the phones if we ship them back to Samsung, but Verizon will not let us do that because they want the phones in order to give us new phones!
Please help!

The product, in the report: Samsung s4 phone charging in electrical outlet item # SPHL720TWT SAMSUNG L720T WHITE
Samsung S4 exploded in the middle of the night while charging in my child’s bedroom. It was on fire. Sounded like an explosion...like a bomb went off. Smoke alarms started due to fire. Absolutely terrible and did lots of damage. This is an immediate safety concern. I am very upset about this safety hazard and consumers should be aware of this danger. I am having trouble downloading images..but I will try again. The images are shocking.

I have a Samsung galaxy S7 edge, and the phone gets too hot at times to hold. I have had to replace my S7 edge already because the first one got so hot that I dropped it because it was burning my hand. After replacing the broken S7 edge with another S7 edge the problem still continued in the replacement phone. At different times the phone will be so hot to the point I cannot place it to my ear. I have reported the issue to Samsung and all they say is to send it in so they can analyze the problem.

The product, in the report: Samsung galaxy s6
My Samsung galaxy S6 exploded on my night stand in the middle of the night on Saturday, august 13th. The device caught fire as well as my nightstand. It also sent little embers onto my bedding. Had I not woken up I have no doubt I’d be dead or seriously injured.
I was told by Samsung and that this incident hadn’t happened before and that they would replace with a new s6 sine they determined it was a faulty battery. They did but the replacement phone was faulty. I ended up trading for a new S7.... 2 weeks later I hear all over the news these phones are exploding everywhere.
The reason for my report is I heard on good morning America today that Samsung has stated no other known problems on any phone but the note 7. Which is completely inaccurate. My s6 exploded, they told me no known problems.

The product, in the report: Samsung S5 phone. I had my first one less than a year and the cord started smoking & sparking as I watched (was not bent/ played with spent years in a fire dept I know how to treat cords) it had been over heating for months hit to the touch. (when it burned my face significantly I treated myself & returned it to the store. They got me a new phone that burned me with blisters within 2 or less weeks... Including in the parking lot of Verizon when going to return phone #2 after burn #2
I had a Samsung S5 phone which got unusually hot. I didn’t realize how hot (due to nerve damage in my face) and received a large phone shaped burn on my face, similar to a severe sunburn. I returned this phone to Verizon MayJune2015. I received a new Samsung S5 and within a few weeks received 2 severe burns on my hands! I received medical attention at a dermatologist office. After seeing the new issues I felt I needed to say something as the call center employee from Samsung told me at the time they were having a “Major Problem with the S5 overheating, catching fire and causing severe burns”. I went into my Verizon store and DEMANDED a different brand replacement phone after talking to the “chatty” Samsung help line guy in the Philippines! Please do not limit your investigation and yes I have evidence and would swear under oath! Sincerely, [REDACTED] [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Samsung Galaxy 7S smartphone, [REDACTED]protective phone case, screen saver for front of phone
On July 26, 2016, I purchased a Samsung Galaxy 7S at full price to use as a prepaid phone at The Verizon Wirelesss store in Cherry Hill, NJ, located at 2110 E. RT 70. I asked my salesclerk,[REDACTED], if I could purchase an extended warranty. I was told I could not because I paid for the phone in full to use as a pre-paid. It did not sound correct to me, but she wouldn’t budge. My bill of sale invoice number is: [REDACTED]. Recently, I started having issues with the phone getting extremely and dangerously hot. When I called to report the issue, I was told that my model was not recalled and they won’t replace it either because it is over 30 days from my purchase. This phone should be at least covered by the one year manufacture warranty that comes with all their products. I also followed all the tips suggested to keep a smartphone from overheating, but none seemed to work. My issue got worse an worse and came to a head last night when the phone got so hot that it melted into the [REDACTED] case and the screen saver. Thank God it was laying on my outback glass patio table and not in my pocket where it usually is because then it could have caused me serious injury or harm. Today I called the same Verizon store that I bought the phone and case from at approximately 11:45 am to rectify this issue. The woman who answered the phone responded to my issue by stating, “It happened to less than 1% of the people in China. I have 5 customers and no time for this [REDACTED].” She told me to call the main Verizon number. When I called them, they re-directed to Samsung. The number given to me by Verizon for Samsungg along with the number I found on their site wound up being a number I waited on hold for and was then solicited to a sex phone operation, while the other one wound up being a short series of commercials that led to an automated voice saying, “Please hang up.” I am frustrated beyond belief and outraged at the way I have been and continuously am spoken to and dealt with by these companies. I paid $800 for the phone and case just a little over 2 months ago and tried to buy an additional warranty which woulddn’t even apply in this case because all of their products have a one year manufacturers warranty. It is unacceptable that I couldn’t get the extended one and find the matter in which II’m being treated irreprehensible. All I want is what is fair and that should be a replacement of my Glaxy s7 and [REDACTED] case which were damaged due to faulty construction of the device. The only thing I am glad about is that I did not get ignored nor did a fire start by this possibly overheating on furniture. How do I get this outrageous situation rectified? I marked the incident date as the day I bought the phone because that was my first issue with poor customer service in this whole ordeal. The phone melted itself to the case yesterday September 30, 2016, and today, Octoberr first is when I was cursed at by a Verizon sales associate on the phone and given the runaround by both companies. I can not be without a cell phone because I am job hunting and waiting for call backs from the interviews I went on last week. If I wind up being screwed over all this money for this faulty phone and miss out on an employment opportunity, livid will not even describe my mood.

9-26-2016 I woke up at 5:30 took phone off charger and did usual checking email and played games on phone until 6:30. Phone was not hot that I could tell. After taking kids to the bus about 20 minutes without using the phone I took it out of my pocket laid it on my bed and it popped really loud and start spewing smoke and melted plastic out of the phone on both ends, screen shattered and the case melted. The smoke alarms went off and the phone was too hot to touch. So much smoke it took all day with Windows open and fans blowing out the windows to get the burnt plastic smell out od the house. Burned my sheets but because of the case the damage was minimal. I believe there is a problem with this phone battery also. I have talked to Samsung with no resolution as of 10-30-2016. They tell me someone will call me and I have to call and get different info each time and I have sent all the documentation. They have asked for. I was just seconds from removing the phone from my pocket and just seconds from being injured. This is a safety concern that should be looked into.

The product, in the report: Samsung Galaxy Note 7
I have a Note 7 in which I cannot get rid of because I purchased it from Sam’s Club (The worst customer support on earth) and they have no clue what to do about it.
If Samsung has sold me a device that DOES not work, I’m entitled to a replacement until the device is FIXED.
Samsung HAS been terrible at getting back to my self and over a dozen people I’ve spoken with. My phone does get hot often. So I decided to just turn it off. About 3 weeks now.
Samsung rarely answers any questions I have, I they tell me is turn off your device so you won’t get burn (And we won’t sue you) but what then? What are we supposed to do with our devices?
I paid $900 for a phone that can hurt me and my family and now it is sitting on my desk gathering dust and SAMSUNG can’t do NOTHING to get this problem fixed. They gave me no options. They said contact the people who sold you the phone. Sam’s Club had NO CLUE what to do. For the first 2 weeks they had no idea these phones were a problem. Once they found out, they said you can return and exchange it for another one but only to the store you bought them... Which is 600 miles away.
So, now I have to go out, spend money in buying a new phone because I can’t use the $900 ticking bomb and there is no way I’m traveling 600 miles to get an inferior phone or go to the trouble of returning and having to deal with all the Verizon craziness of getting the up-grades back into the account and what not.
This has been extremely FRUSTRATING and no one is doing anything. We little people have little saying and when it is all done, for our troubles we get $25. Really? This has to be a joke. Can you guys help in any way?
It seems like I’m guilty of first of all, buying the phone, then buying from a company that does not care about their customers on a Network that could care less for it’s customers as well.
I’m out of options here.
My phone got EXTREMELY HOT on the 1st of September when I was charging it in my car. Then as I went to search for reason I stumbled upon the mess that has been going on. I turned the phone off and it has been off since then.

I was using my Samsung Galaxy S6 phone for directions when it started reporting it no longer had service. It then got very hot near the power button. I burnt my finger trying to get it to turn off. Now, when in airplane mode or just using the WiFi, the phone runs at normal temperature. When I try to use the cellular network it immediately starts getting hot. Despite getting hot enough that I got a burn that blistered, the phone has never reported itself as being overheated.

The product, in the report: Samsung Galaxy Note 7
I had purchased a Note 7 on Craigslist and was returning home from the purchase with my buddy. I was charging the phone in the car and noticed it began to get quite hot to the touch, so I placed it in its box, closed the flap, and put it on the floorboard to continue charging. After about maybe 10 to 15 minutes we noticed a strange chemical smell, then there was a loud “POP” and the box was on fire and smoking. I instantly grabbed the box and threw it out the open window while we were going down the road, as to avoid injury to myself or the car, and to make sure it didn’t cause my friend to crash. This was before the recall had been made, so I was unsure of what to do or what had really just happened. About a week later I saw the recall from Samsung, so I emailed them and was assured I would have their full support, I then called a few times to explain again what had occurred to them and went about the process of getting my replacement. Samsung is in the process of getting me my replacement now, buy are trying to change their terms and are asking for the IMEI and/or a reciept to complete the replacement, (Even after they have said they will replace or refund ALL Note 7’s, your official recall has came out, and the factwo that it exploded.) which I have neither as the phone and box were destroyed by the fire and lost in the actions I took to protect myself and my friend, and there was never a reciept, as it was a seller to seller sale, and none are usually provided, and if are, aren’t considered official enough in most cases. Luckily there were no injuries or property damage to myself, my friend, or the car, just the Note 7, likely because of it being contained in the box during the explosion, and my quick actions. I’m contacting you today so that you may require Samsung to do its duty, right it’s wrong for releasing a faulty product to the consumers without proper testing and replace my Note 7, no more beating around the bush and trying to get over on me or any others that may have similar issues. Thank You.

I purchased a Samsung Galaxy S4 from Verizon on 5/17/2014. It had Android OS version 4 at the time. I had no issues with the phone until Samsung pushed out an update for Android OS version 5. The battery drained quickly, and then it started getting warm. On the evening of 10/23/2015, I was texting and the phone became so hot I had to let go of it. My husband was sitting across the room and both of us could smell the phone, it got that hot. I took the phone to Verizon and they informed me it was a known issue, and I had to give them the phone, and then purchase another one because I had the phone over one year. I ended up with an [REDACTED] and the retail price was $552.00. I signed up for the 24 month payment plan because I don’t have that kind of money to buy it outright.

The product, in the report: Recalled Samsung Galaxy Note 7
Hello I Have a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 currently on recall, I am actually the second as I purchased the phone from someone else. Today is September 17 2016, I’ve contacted AT&T where there phone was originally from and they say they can replace the phone because I don’t have a AT&T account (the phone is unlocked and I use it on T-Mobile) they told me Samsung will be able to exchange the phone because it is their product and there is recall and a no questions asked policy.
Samsung has told me for the past week to keep the phone because the store need the original owner to bring the phones back. I use the phone for work and can’t be without a phone and have no other phone, the phone have been getting very hot I even thought about putting it in the freezer at on point because it was burning my hand and leg. I’m trying to just trade the phone in for another and the recall doesn’t say return if you’re the original owner only it say return no question asked for a replacement but AT&T and Samsung are not honoring this product recall.
What can I do?

The product, in the report: Samsung Galaxy S-5
I have a Samsung Galaxy S-5 cell phone; the battery is bulging in the back of the phone and it is warm to the touch. I contacted Verizon who thought the solution was to sell me a new phone or charge me for a new battery that I would have to install.
I contacted Samsung and they were less helpful. I was told that since the phone “. . .had not yet exploded” [their exact words] they couldn’t do anything for me but sell me a new battery that I would be expected to install.
They indicated that this phone was the last one they made with a removable back so that the consumer could access the battery. They had no problem expecting me to tinker with the phone that they were being told had a battery issue and expected me to pay for it besides.
I’ve taken the CPSC’s representative’s comments seriously and I believe Samsung’s product is larger than just the battery. I’ve had experience with [REDACTED] tires and [REDACTED] accelerator and it is clear to me that Samsung is only addressing a small portion of the issue.

No one hurt Made Sep 16, 2016, sent to the company Sep 26, 2016, published by CPSC Oct 11, 2016
The product, in the report: Samsung Galaxy S6 Active smartphone
Summary of Samsung Galaxy S6 Active Explosion/Burn Incident: It appears that Samsung is saying only the [REDACTING] has a problem. My Samsung Galaxy S6 Active (available through AT&T only I think) also burned up while charging via a Samsung charger. The smoke alarms went off and our bedroom was filled with smoke. There was char on the curtains about 2 feet away from the bed and charred marks on the headboard; the phone burned through the hardcover of a book. Both AT&T and Samsung said that I should deal directly with Samsung on this and I sent my phone to Samsung at their request. This happened at the beginning of June and Samsung finally sent me a check in August after giving me a huge runaround (likely that the Samsung [REDACTING] recall was already in the works.) After multiple weeks, I was told that it was taking so long because I filed a claim instead of just accepting payment for my phone of accepting another model of Samsung 6 because the “Active” model is only available through AT&T. My claim included the cost of my burned phone plus approximately $140 for a $40 [REDACTING] (that works great by the way), 2 curtain panels, the cost of the burned book and a few dollars that I paid to have the headboard cleaned. I did not claim anything for the huge amount of time I spent just trying to get Samsung to talk to me about the status of my phone. And laughably before they sent me a check, they sent me a coupon for shopping on the Samsung website for a new phone. I received my check from Samsung and just now called AT&T to remind them that my S6 exploded, too, and now AT&T has not called back even though my call was “escalated” to a supervisor. I have a comment from AT&T CS that I printed that says that Samsung should recall the S6…this must have been from too low a level of CS.
Samsung Customer Service “Runaround”: The runaround they gave me was incredible. First of all, I was expecting that someone from Samsung might even be at my door because such a horrendous, dangerous thing happened to my phone and they would want to make sure I was okay. Oh, silly me. I was told by Samsung that AT&T would give me a loaner phone. AT&T just laughed at this suggestion. I got myself a $40 GoPhone and have used it to this day – it is great by the way. Multiple times I left messages for Samsung to call my cell phone number – they continued to call my house phone repeatedly. When they did call my cell phone, if I didn’t answer immediately but called back seconds later, I would be subjected to the same loop of voice mails. I would say to call me between certain hours and they would call just outside the range of hours. They called and left me messages to call back to a number for the “Office of the President” because my case was escalated to the highest level of customer service at Samsung -- ha -- nobody at the OOTP ever, ever picked up the phone; when my calls were answered by a person, it was always at the general customer service line. Then I would have to start the story over again and that person (all very nice by the way) would call the OOTP and stay on the line and find out that the calls always went to voice mail after several minutes and then a message came on stating something like, “You’ve reached the OOTP; he isn’t available...” as if “he, the President” really was there. Then, a guy from the OOTP (I have his name and all the numbers that I was given) would call me and just leave his first name and tell me to call back on this certain number. Never, ever, ever did anyone answer that phone – I reached a voice mail with a message directing me to leave a message until finally one day in August I answered my house phone and I was told by the seemingly surprised person handling my claim that it was approved and would now go to the Samsung Accounting Dept. I think it took more than a week for them to send me my payment.

Thought i would let you know that my two-month-old Samsung S7 Edge got so hot that it burned my hand and i could not hold onto it. After that, the screen started blinking and the phone rebooted and would not make calls. I immediately returned it to T-Mobile store and they issued an exchange for another refurbished S7 phone. I thought should you should know after the note 7 recall. Seems like a similar battery issue.

Around Sept. 8th i reported to Att that my phone heated up very warm. After speaking with Att tech support they recommended that i call Samsung Support which i did. They recommended that i again call Att. After playing phone tag for awhile i learned that my phone was being recalled. Att told me i was welcome to exchange my phone but did not have updates on how that may work. I advised them i was out of town traveling and a imminent exchange was not possible. A few days later i received a text to the phone that had previously gotten very warm and was advised to contact Att. They told me i must take my phone back to the point of purchase. I again advised them that wasn’t possible because i was out of town.I begged them to just send me one. Three days ago my phone again got extremely warm while i was checking my Facebook. At first i thought it was just because i was on the phone but it quickly became apparent that there was more at play. I decided to shut off my phone and allow it to cool which it did. I again later called Att and they where no help. I am stuck with a phone that could case me harm. I haven’t another phone and i use this one for business. They say that there are doing everything in there power to help. But did you know you can not even return your phone unless you have all the packaging with it. Bottom line my phone gets very hot all the time.

The product, in the report: Samsung Galaxy S5- black
I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 which exploded on June 13 at 4:30 AM whilst resting on my night table. Here is what happened: within the first year after I bought this phone, I stopped at one of the Verizon Centers when my phone was so hot that it was uncomfortable for me to hold it in hand. This has been happening since I bought it but as I have checked with other users, I disregarded the heating issue as a normal thing to happen. The Verizon representative was alarmed with the heat coming from the phone and said he could give me another battery but that I had to wait about six weeks to arrive because he did not have it in the store and had to order one. At that time I was ready to leave the country for two months and he suggested that I bought another compatible battery and sent me to a store that according to him was a reliable store. He said I could claim a refund after I came back. I did what he recommended and the battery store sold me a [REDACTED] battery. With the new battery the phone was not as hot. I used it for many months until one night around 4AM a puffing sound woke me up to a surreal view of a burning fire by the side of my bed. I was startled and my first reaction was to throw a pillow over the flames. As I lifted the pillow the battery of the phone was melted (puffed up) over the carpet but was still smoking. I had a glass of water in my night table and I poured it over the battery. What an awful experience; waking up to such a scene where the whole room was lighted and heated by flames reaching about 3 feet height and the smelling of burning carpet! Indeed, an emotionally disturbing experience. I was traumatized, nervous and trembling for a few hours with my heart beating very fast.
The next day I went to the same Verizon store and told them about my case. They did not take responsibility. Then I went to Costco from where I bought the phone and they, too, would not take responsibility. Well, I left it to that and continued to use the phone as I tried the original battery I have saved and to my surprise, it was still working. When the battery exploded it separated from the phone in a very weird way. The cover was still on the night table and the phone was on the floor about 7 inches away from the melted battery. Yes, I have been using this phone but with a lot of apprehension. I am so scare that it is going to happen again! Now that I hear about these other cases with the Galaxy Note 7 and the regulators recalling these phones; asking people to stop using them, I would appreciate if you could assist me and/or guide me on what to do. I took pictures and collected samples of the damage to my carpet, pillow, pillow case and phone, which although it is working, the explosion caused a little crack on the glass. I wish someone could help me.

I own a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. The glass on the camera lens shattered with no impact whatsoever. This is a known issue that Samsung is ignoring. They are receiving hundreds of phone back and charging consumers $71 for the repair. The are attempting to charge me but I refuse and now are sending my phone back unrepaired. We pay hundreds of $$’s for these phones and to have something petty like this be such a huge deal is rediculous. There are community boards on the Samsung website where people are chatting about this and Samsung is starting to delete them. I actually received a small cut on my finger from the shattered lens prior to my sending it in. This could really hurt a child if they are playing with it when it shatters.

The product, in the report: Samsung s6 Edge 128G Mobile Phone (Smartphone)
I have owned my Samsung S6 Edge for just about 3 months. In this time, the phone has overheated frequently, to the point where it has left several burns on my fingers, hands and arms. Some of these burns have left blisters, and at least two have left scars. None were large enough to seek out medical attention, but they have been painful, as I suspect most burns are, and have required ointment and over-the-counter pharmaceutical care.
Contact with Samsung’s customer service has been less than stellar. At the same time, the phone has stopped charging (the charging cord no longer fits in the slot provided for it). I was told over the phone that their warranty program was better than the one provided by Verizon. This appears to have been a blatant lie. Regardless, rather than replace the faulty device, the claim to have fixed ONLY the overheating issue. The phone has not been returned to me, no one can confirm or deny whether it is still overheating, and no one will address the issue of the phone not charging. No one has acknowledged the photographs of my blistered burns and scars. I do not know when to expect my phone, and have been told that they fixed it for free this time, but it was a one-time deal (even though it is under warranty for another 9 months, and fixing it should be covered by that warranty).
I remained cooperative with customer service up until I received a random text message that my phone repair was complete. I had not been contacted to discuss the underlying issue with my phone, what my concerns were, what the potential solutions were...anything. I was then told the phone would be returned to me with an additional 90 day warranty. When I asked if this meant the remaining 9 months of my original warranty plus their additional 90 days, I did not receive an answer. I believe this to mean that the repaired phone has a remainder of 90 days warranty, the same as the Verizon warranty I was asked to give up in favor of Samsung’s supposedly “better” warranty program (and worse customer service).
In the meantime, I still have scars remaining on my body from the previously obtained burns left from the device they are now sending back to me. Having been given the runaround about the service process on my phone, I have done some research and discovered that overheating is a common issue with this device. I cannot be the only person who has been burnt, blistered, or scarred from the extreme temperatures this phone can reach. And not infrequently. The device gets hot enough to at least redden the skin several times a day, often while not being used. Imagine what could happen if someone had the phone in their pocket and it reached those temperature -- and was able to ignite the fabric of their clothing?

I plugged my samsung phone up to the cord. I went to sleep for a bit. I woke up because my arm was hurting only to realize that I fell asleep with my arm on the cord right at the part that plugs into my phone. I then realized that it burned my arm giving me a blister. How can something that children use everyday be so dangerous?

The product, in the report: Samsung S6 Active, white camo color
The phone was placed on charge around 1230am on June 9, 2016 using the Samsung charger that is issued with the phone. The phone was sitting on the side of the bed, with nothing covering it, and around 4am the it pretty much exploded and caught on fire. The sound was so loud it woke my child up in the next room. The fire burnt through my sheets, mattress, and luckily no bodily harm was caused. This disaster occurred while we were sleeping and could have caused a lot more damage to my house and my family. This is unacceptable for a phone to burst into flames while charging. Now, he is without a phone, and my mattress smells like burnt plastic.
Samsung advised to send in the phone to have examined to see if they can fix it or replace it. Also, to provide receipts for my mattress and sheets. I feel like they are sweeping this under the rug, and now we are paying a lease on a phone that blew up.
I appreciate your time and look forward to speaking with you.

The product, in the report: Samsung Galaxy S6 White
Cell phone was off and thus required charging. I plugged the phone into the manufacture supplied charger. About an hour later I detected a strange smell. I found that the micro USB portion that plugs into the phone was warped, melted, and discolored. The phone itself was also extremely hot and I was unable to pick it up because it was so hot. This heat would have burned a small child. Items underneath the phone were also extremely hot. The wiring that connects into the micro USB had also melted and pulled away from the micro USB. The phone is no longer functional.

The charger was the factory charger that came with the phone. Totally unsafe! My house could have started on fire given a bit more time.

The product, in the report: Samsung Galaxy S4 model SPH-L720. The battery says 2600mAh. 3.8 V Li-ion
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4. The model number is SPH-L720. This phone is approximately two years old. The battery that came with it was not performing well or keeping a charge so I removed it from the phone and put it in the box that the phone came in. I was using an extended battery in the phone for the past 5 months. When I went to retrieve the battery from the box in my desk drawer I found that the battery was expanding and swollen to the point that it could burst at any moment. It hasn’t exploded or caught fire yet but I think that is only because I had stopped using it.

The product, in the report: White Samsung Galaxy 4s cellular smart phone. All parts including battery and charger were provided with the phone when purchased new.
I bought a Samsung Galaxy 4s late spring or early summer of 2014. The phone started acting up the end of September 2014. I contacted Samsung who at no point indicated what my phone was doing was similar to what happened when the phones burn. I took it to the retail store where I purchased the phone, no one there indicated it could be a serious problem.
Initially the phone got hot when it charged, then it would only charge to 10 -15%. While charging approximately the first of October 2014 the phone literally melted to my counter. The area around the charging port was black and melted. This is not an isolated incident as my daughters did the same thing while laying on a coffee cup. (She knew what mine did and was protecting her property.)
I realize nothing will be done, it seems Samsung has been given free reign to distribute a device that has had more than a few hundred melt and/or burn furniture including beds people were sleeping in.
Samsung did replace my new phone with a refurbished phone but has yet to honor their promise they would also pay for property damage and out of pocket expenses which occurred by replacing the phone. [REDACTED] has stated he wants to work it out with my unit (apt) manager. I am confused as to why he thinks my manager is involved in my personal cell phone matters.

Hurt, care not known Made Nov 13, 2014, sent to the company Nov 24, 2014, published by CPSC Dec 9, 2014
The product, in the report: Samsung Galaxy s4, Black
I originally purchased a new Samsung galaxy s4 from best buy in June 2013. At the time i was sold the geek squad extended warranty as a product that if something happens to my phone i bring it back and get a new one off the shelf. In September 2014 I accidentally dropped my phone, took it to best buy and was told that I would receive a refurbished phone 2-3 days later. As this is not how the warranty was sold to me and I generally to not trust refurbished products I was very upset but took it anyway because I didn’t have any other options. About 6 weeks later on 11/11/14 I woke up at 6:00 am to the smell of electronics burning. I was extremely confused, grabbed my phone to check the time, and burnt my hand. This is when i realized the phone was starting to catch on fire. The charging port was burnt, the cord was melted, and my sheets and mattress pad were burnt. I truly believe if I had slept for 5 more minutes the fire would have spread up to the battery and it could have exploded and killed me. I returned to best buy the following day to report what happened and they supplied me with a new phone (not samsung and not refurbished) because I could not trust another samsung or refurbished device.
I really have no clue who is at fault- samsung for making a potentially deadly device, or best buy for making a bad refurbished product.

I own a Samsung Galaxy SIII cell phone. I ordered a new battery that was being supplied by a company called [REDACTED] and fullfilled through Amazon. The first day of using the new battery my phone worked wonderful. On Sept 25,2014 I set my phone down on my living room table, plugged it in to charge, within 5 minutes my phone started making a sizzling sound, I went to reach for it and the front of the phone flew off the table, the battery expanded to 3 times its normal size, began to flame and smoke horribly. I brushed the battery off the table and onto a newspaper, and threw it outside. My house was filled with a horrible smoke, I burnt my fingernail and had a tingling sensation in my fingertips that lasted 2 days. After being passed from customer service rep to customer service rep at Samsung they finally sent me packaging to return my phone, battery and charger. They fixed my phone, replaced my battery and charger. On the Samsung ASC Service Repair Statement under repair summary symptom: they listed “PHONE IS WARM WHILE CHARGING”. I hardly call a burnt phone and exploded battery “WARM” I’ve attempted to contact Samsung about this, but to no avail they have not replied. I feel like they’re covering this whole incident up.

The product, in the report: Samsung Galaxy S4 Smart-Phone
08/05/2014 The consumer purchased her smart-phone. For the following two weeks, the consumer stated that her device did not cause her any problems and she had no complaints about it.
08/15/2014 The consumer was in her home with her device at hand. Suddenly her husband tells her that the phone is smoking. The consumer immediately tosses it on the floor and her husband proceeded to stomp on it. The back cover came off the phone and the battery came out. The consumer states there was smoke everywhere and the battery caught on fire. It was approximately five seconds before the husband was able to get water and pour it on the battery. After ten minutes had passed, the consumer picked up the phone and the battery and bagged them in a [plastic bag].
The consumer states no injuries occurred to her or her husband due to this incident. Aside from the consumer’s device, the only property damage reported is a hole with approximate dimensions of two inches by four inches to the couple’s ceramic tiles flooring.
8/16/2014 The consumer visited her local T-Mobile store. She explained to a representative the events that had taken place the day before. Without knowledge of what to do, the representative contacted the District Manager and proceeded to explain the incident. The District Manager told the consumer and the representative that there was nothing T-Mobile could do on their hand but to contact Samsung to see what they would do about the matter.
While at the store, the T-Mobile representative called Samsung. Numerous unsuccessful calls were made trying to reach somebody from Samsung and voice messages were left instead.
08/30/2014 Approximately two weeks later, the consumer receives a call from a Samsung representative by the first name of [REDACTED]. The consumer explained to [REDACTED] the incident that took place. [REDACTED] asked the consumer to mail her device to Samsung so that they could inspect the phone with the hopes of finding out what the problem may have been. The consumer informed [REDACTED] that her floor had not been repaired. [REDACTED] asked the consumer that alongside her device, to send the quote for the floor repair as well as any pictures she may have taken of the damaged floor. 09/10/2014 Approximately seven to eight business days later and not having heard from him, the consumer contacted [REDACTED]. He explained that he had been trying to reach the consumer and had even left voice messages, those of which the consumer states she never received. [REDACTED] informed her that he had received her package and that the best they could do was replace her phone free of charge. He also informed her that if she was to accept the phone replacement, the issue would end there and she could not take further actions against the company or seek further compensation. The consumer rejected this offer and explicitly told him that she did not feel safe with another one of their cell-phones. [REDACTED] told the consumer that Samsung did not feel liable for her floor damage. The consumer told [REDACTED] that if they were willing to replace her device, they implicitly accepted fault and should repair her floor as well. [REDACTED] told the consumer that unfortunately they would not do such thing but said she was welcomed to file charges against them. She told [REDACTED] she would speak to her attorney.
9/24/2014 The consumer contacted her attorney and after explaining the situation, she was told that nothing could be done if she no longer had possession of her device. Her lawyer advised her to contact CPSC.
9/24/2014 The consumer contacted T-Mobile and a representative told her that it was unlikely that Samsung would mail back her device because it was possible that it had already been disassembled for inspection.
9/24/2014 The consumer tried contacting Samsung to see if they could return her device. She was not able to get a hold of a representative so she proceeded to leave a voice message.
The consumer states that she has not yet repaired her floor. She feels that the device is defective and poses a safety and fire hazard.

The product, in the report: Samsung flip phone Model #T-109 IMEI #011661000778460
My husband’s five year old cell phone exploded and caught on fire yesterday while it was inside it’s case and clipped to his belt. It was not charging at the time. My husband was in his office and they all heard a “pop” sound, and he realized flames were coming out of the phone case. He was able to flip the case off his belt with his left hand, sustaining a burn blister on his left thumb. The phone and case landed on the floor, where fumes came out and it stopped burning. The entire back of the small flip-phone type cell phone was charred and burned. The burning appears to have melted the back cover off the phone and is fused to the inside of the case. The inside of the case is burned. There are scorch marks on my husband’s shirt. This is a Samsung cell phone, model T-109, purchased through [REDACTED}.
We have contacted Samsung, they want us to return the phone to them but we are not sure we should do that. We are feeling grateful my husband did not have his phone in his pocket, or that he was driving on the highway at the time the phone exploded.

The product, in the report: Samsung galaxy nexus sch-1515ZSAVZW. (Smart phone...touch screen)
I purchased two samsung galaxy nexus phones in a promotion. I activated only one phone and kept the other for a spare. I already have four phones activated for family. Around jun 12th my phone got really hot so much that I dropped it out of my hand. It had been getting warmer and warmer over the year. When I dropped the phone it cracked the face of the phone. I got out a laser to possibly get my phone working properly. That is ridiculous since I didn’t install the system they do at the factory.
I then informed them to send it back. I then contacted the [REDACTED] from Samsung with several letters and emails from customer service. He stated he would not exchanged the phone for an upgrade which I was not asking for anyway. I just wanted my phone to work and not burn my hands or face while using and temp not reach 105, 108.
Recently there was a fire in a young girls bedroom and she had major damage to her room. He could have been killed. The battery and charger over heated. As does mine and research on here even has a complaint about this issue.
I feel that there should be a major recall to make sure no one else gets seriously hurt. They blamed the ,girl for the fire. Then they stated she should not have had it on the bed. She should have put it on her dress or next to her. Gee....stupid it was made of wood and would have caught fire either way.
They are not taking these problems seriously and someone is going to die in fire, electrocuted, or serious third degree burns.
Your dept should check into this problem instead of samsung sweeping under the carpet and ignoring because it’s not millions of complaints. One complaint should be taken serious.....

My wife and I live in Kansas City, MO. And were leaving to go on vacation on the 27th of July. On July 26th 2013 my wife set her phone alarm and plugged it in to charge placing it on her nightstand. We were getting up early to drive to Marion NC. the next day. Around 1:00a.m. we heard a hissing sound and then a loud POP. My wife yelled FIRE. I jumped out of bed to a smoke filled room saw that her phone was on fire. The phone is a SAMSUNG GALAXY SII MODEL NO. SPH-D710. I grabbed it and threw it in the master bedroom bathroom sink and turned on the water. The smell in the bedroom was bad enough to take your breath away. We aired out the bedroom put the phone in a baggy. There was minimal damage to the end table and carpet. If she hadn’t set her alarm on the phone she would have plugged it in the living room to charge. We feel that if she had done that the house would have been on fire, and we wouldn’t have known it. When we got to Marion, NC. We tried looking up on the WEB to see if there had been any other phones reported catching on fire. We found 2 cases one in a mans pocket in Australia that was contributed to the fact it was in his pocket and couldn’t get proper ventilation, and one in a girls backpack that was for the same reason. My wives phone was laying on her nightstand when it caught fire so we felt it had plenty of ventilation. We went to a Sprint store in BOONE, NC. And was told that it was not the phones fault that we needed to file an insurance claim that it was our fault for charging it. The manager there took a picture and sent it to his superiors, and they agreed with him. We went back to our Daughters house and filed an insurance claim with ASURION on line. We had to pay $100.00 deductible to get my wife a new phone. We had it sent to my sons house in Chapel Hill, Tn. Since we were headed there next. When we filled out the claim we were told to return the old phone in 10days or we would be charged $500.00. We received the phone when we got to my sons home and we went to a Sprint store to have it activated in Spring Hill, TN. The lady helping us couldn’t believe the phone that caught on fire and she removed the battery saying that we shouldn’t ship it back with the battery in it.

The product, in the report: Samsung Gravity Smart Sapphire Blue Kit Cell Phone for T-Mobile 3g Smart phone Blue with slide out keyboard and camera
Samsung Gravity Smart T589 Cell Phone from T-Mobile Kit SKU 610214626431 Handset serial IMEI:357366040116794 Date: 06/09/2011 manufactured? (date on the box by serial #) On August 18th, 2011 my son was charging this cell phone that we bought him a few weeks earlier. He had the phone plugged into an outlet in his bedroom by his bed. The phone was plugged in for two to three hours. When he went to take it off the charger it was so hot that he dropped it onto the bed because it was too hot to hold. He unpluged it and found that the phone had not charged at all. When I came home from work we tried it again and it got hot when plugged into a different outlet, however not as hot as before. I called T-mobile they thought it might be the battery. I decided to return to the T-mobile store where we got it. They said that we should try replacing the battery as customer service suggested. We received a replacement battery in the mail and inserted it. It worked fine for a few days, however over the past week the phone started getting hot when plugged into charge and not charging properly. I feel this phone may pose a fire hazard and suggest that this phone be subjected to further testing. T-mobile has offered to replace this phone for another one of the same model. I feel that you should take possesion of this phone to study for defects in manufacturing.

The product, in the report: Product Name: Samsung Intensity. Model Number: SCH-U450. Used with Verizon Wireless service. SKU: SCHU450MRV. Color: Red
This incident happened in the morning. The phone had been charging overnight, as I do every night, and I went to go unplug the charger from the phone when I realized the phone was incredibly hot. It was so hot that I could not even try to hold it or I would be burned. The phone eventually restarted itself, as I believe it overheated. A few days later, this incident happened again as I was entering the car. Luckily, I had my phone in my car’s cup holder. Again, the phone was incredibly hot to the touch. If the phone would have been in my pocket or on my person, I would have been burned.
