No one hurt Made Sep 17, 2026, sent to the company Sep 22, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 6, 2026
The product, in the report: Samsung Galaxy S24 128 GB Onyx Black Model number SM-S921UZKAATT Serial number RFCX60FVR1Y, smartphone
My husbands Samsung Galaxy S24 device suffered a catastrophic thermal failure immediately following a mandatory system update on July 30, 2026. The device experienced rapid battery drain, display glitches, and extreme overheating, causing the lithium-ion battery to physically swell and pop the rear casing off the frame. Over the past 49 days, I have contacted Samsung support 11+ times, generating over seven ticket numbers (most recently Ticket [REDACTED]). Despite fulfilling every requestincluding submitting photos, receipts, and physically bringing the phone to an authorized Samsung repair center on August 18Samsung failed to process the hazard inspection correctly, turned us away, and subsequently insisted we ship a physically compromised, hazardous battery through standard mail. Samsung has refused to offer a direct replacement or a safe local resolution, leaving my husband without a working device during a severe family hardship following his grandmother’s passing. I am requesting an immediate replacement device or full financial accommodation for this unserviceable product safety failure.

Hurt, care not known Made Sep 14, 2026, sent to the company Sep 17, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 3, 2026
The product, in the report: Blue Samsung Galaxy s9
My Samsung Galaxy s9 exploded and experiencing like a headache. I try to contact Samsung and they ignored my concerns and didnt report my concerns and safety.
(09/15/2026) . The device was an unactivated 2020 model that was completely powered off and disconnected from any charger at the time. It suddenly underwent an internal chemical failure, burst open, exploded, and released toxic chemical vapors into my living space. Due to the severe headaches and physical distress caused by the chemical fumes and stress, I am seeking immediate medical attention. I am updating my report to confirm that instead of following the dangerous instructions provided by Samsung customer service, I have successfully moved the device outside and safely isolated it in a shaded glass baking dish to prevent a structural fire and protect my family. I immediately contacted Samsung Support via their official service chat to report this critical fire hazard. Samsung’s front-line representatives completely ignored my explicit safety concerns and refused to process a safety ticket or escalate the issue because I could not safely provide a 15-digit IMEI or serial number on a physically compromised device. Furthermore, at [REDACTED] PM, the Samsung chat representative explicitly instructed me to place this unstable, exploded chemical hazard into a standard cardboard box and personally transport it to a physical service center. This advice directly instructs a consumer to violate federal hazardous material transit regulations and exposes myself and the general public to an extreme transit fire risk.

No one hurt Made Sep 12, 2026, sent to the company Sep 16, 2026, published by CPSC Sep 30, 2026
The product, in the report: Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G smart phone
My Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G developed a swollen battery after very light, normal use. The device was not dropped, exposed to water, or subjected to any abnormal conditions. I was the only person using the phone, for typical personal use such as calls, texting, apps, and browsing.
The battery swelling caused the back cover of the phone to separate from the frame on its own, due to internal pressure from the battery. I did not disassemble the device, the separation happened as a result of the swelling itself.
No injury has occurred yet, but the device presents an ongoing fire and explosion risk given the visible battery swelling and structural deformation of the casing. I have stopped using and charging the device as a safety precaution and am storing it away from flammable materials.
I contacted Samsung directly, and their support team accepted the device for repair. It was sent to an authorized repair center, which confirmed in writing that it could not complete the repair due to unavailable parts, and returned the device to me unrepaired. Despite an earlier commitment from Samsung to look into other options including replacement if the device could not be repaired, Samsung has since stated no further options are available, and my requests to escalate to a supervisor have gone unanswered.

The product, in the report: Samsung Galaxy S24 cell phone
Product: Samsung Galaxy S24 Retailer: TMobile Incident Type: Fire - thermal Runaway
I am reporting a serious safety hazard involving my Samsung Galaxy S24. The device caught fire and was destroyed. This was not due to misuse, damage, or external force. The phone ignited spontaneously and posed a severe fire risk.
I am a 65yearold consumer, and this incident created a dangerous situation in my home. TMobile refused to replace or credit the device, and I am still being billed for it despite the fact that it no longer exists.
This is a clear manufacturer defect and a thermalrunaway event similar to other Samsung incidents reported to the CPSC. I am requesting that Samsung investigate this hazard, provide a replacement or reimbursement, and ensure this defect does not harm other consumers.
Please treat this matter as urgent.

No one hurt Made Aug 24, 2026, sent to the company Aug 27, 2026, published by CPSC Sep 14, 2026
The product, in the report: Device model Samsung Galaxy S25+ 256GB in Silver Shadow [REDACTED]
Starting in July 2026, my Samsung Galaxy S25 plus started overheating and gets extremely hot and I can not touch it or use it. It started doing this more frequently until Around August 10, 2026, I tried to call Verizon as they are who I got the phone from August 13th 2025. I had a hard time reaching them due to their chat not working and their AI on the phone would not connect me to a person. I was finally able to reach a person On August 16, 2026 and was told my warranty had lapsed on August 14, 2025 even though I had been trying to reach Verizon since August 10, 2025 They said that since I had activated the phone on August 14 2025, they said I needed to add a 3rd line to my account and get another phone. I told them I did not need or want a 3rd line as I did not need it and could not afford for my bill to go up. They finally sent me to [REDACTED] who said I did not have insurance and transferred me back to Verizon. I was cut off. I called again on August 17 and a supervisor said she would request I receive a new phone and would call me back the next day at noon. The next day at 1:00 pm, she finally called and said it was going to take 48 more hours and she would call me back and she did not. August 18, 2026, I did a chat with Samsung and a case number was created and I was told that someone would call me within 24-48 hours. They did not. I called back on August 21, 2026 and talked to a lady who said the department that was handling my case would call me back. They have not. I explained that I am the sole caregiver for my husband who is a heart patient and that I needed my phone to work properly. I then sent a message to the Office of the CEO / Corporate Escalations Team explaining that the phone was unsafe to use and that I needed my phone since my husband is a heart patient. They have not called me back either or contacted me in any way, nor has the team that was supposed to call from the case created August 18, 2026, it has been 6 days and no one from Samsung has done anything to help me. The phone gets so hot it will burn your hand. I was told by 4 Verizon employees that the phone could blow up in my face and was dangerous. At this point I only answer the phone for emergencies and to give whoever is calling a alternative number to call me on. I have a emergency [REDACTED] but it does not have all the important information in case I need to reach a medical doctor or emergency personell. The phone started this after the July 16, 2026 software update. I have never had this happen and I am very upset that this phone is doing this and I am very afraid to use it. I keep it away from me. The device is experiencing severe thermal runaway. The extreme heat generation is causing physical pain upon contact and constitutes a severe fire, explosion, and burn hazard in a residential space. I am forced to store the device away from flammable materials to prevent property damage. Device model Samsung Galaxy S25+ 256GB in Silver Shadow, [REDACTED] The device is only 33% paid off through a Verizon financial agreement. I am being forced to pay for a confirmed, dangerous manufacturing defect that Verizon employees admitted is an explosion hazard, while being denied standard consumer protections due to automated system delays.

No incident, no one hurt Made Aug 18, 2026, sent to the company Aug 21, 2026, published by CPSC Sep 8, 2026
The product, in the report: Samsung Galaxy S24 smartphone. It is a premium touchscreen mobile cellular phone, approximately 6.2 inches in size.
My 20-month-old Samsung Galaxy S24 smartphone experienced a catastrophic battery failure that poses an immediate fire and thermal hazard. The battery swelled so severely that it expanded, completely bursting through the back cover of the device and fracturing the structure underneath the screen. On August 8, 2026, I contacted Samsung support and was issued Ticket #[REDACTED]. A Samsung customer service representative explicitly confirmed to me that this ticket is officially designated and flagged in their system as a “Fire Hazard.”Despite Samsung internally documenting that a live lithium-ion fire hazard is sitting in my residential home, the company has committed severe safety negligence. They failed to contact me within their mandatory 24-hour callback window, missed multiple deadlines, and have left this volatile hazardous device in my home for 7 business days without providing a safe hazardous materials disposal container or a replacement path. Furthermore, because the device was purchased through Spectrum and is still under active financing with a remaining balance of $333.00, I am trapped in a financial contract for an unusable, dangerous product.Leaving a compromised, severely swollen battery in a home introduces a severe risk of spontaneous thermal runaway, explosion, and structure fire. Samsung has refused to escalate this emergency or remove the hazard.

The product, in the report: White Samsung S26+ mobile phone. Purchased from Verizon storefront
I recently purchased a Samsung S26+ phone in June of 2026. Since getting the phone, there has been a system issue where whenever I get a notification of any sort, the screen stays on even if it’s not in use. I have looked for settings to turn that feature off, but to no success. Today, 8/11/2026, while at work my phone had turned on in my pocket at some sort. I was not and had not used my phone in some time (at least 2 hours). I noticed my leg began to hurt so I finished the day and came home. When I checked the area, I had noticed my phone had left a large burn on my leg (a large red area with a blister in the center and skin peeling around it). Since the burn occurred, my leg has been in pain and the burn area appears as a large red lump with a blister in the center that continues to change over time.

No incident, no one hurt Made Aug 6, 2026, sent to the company Aug 11, 2026, published by CPSC Aug 25, 2026
The product, in the report: Samsung Galaxy S24 Cell Phone in color black. Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of the information requested below as the device was unstable, heating up rapidly and I needed to dispose of it immediately.
Following a forced over-the-air firmware update, my smartphone suffered a catastrophic physical hardware failure. A severe software optimization bug induced an inescapable background processing loop while the device was idle. This loop generated extreme, unchecked thermal energy, initiating a thermal runaway event. The internal lithium-ion battery pouch rapidly expanded and swelled, generating enough physical pressure to violently rip and lift the rear glass casing away from the structural frame. This created an active, immediate fire and explosion hazard inside a residential household.
What type of product(s) were being used? A smartphone / mobile cellular telephone device. Who was using the product(s)? I was using the product. How were the product(s) being used? The product was being used in a standard consumer capacity
Were there any injuries that happened or may have happened while using the product? Yes. Severe physical strain and exacerbation of a pre-existing medical disability occurred due to the emergency handling and disposal required by this safety hazard. Additionally, a severe household fire or explosion may have happened had the device not been immediately removed from the residence.
How did any injuries occur? Because the retail carrier infrastructure refused to safely intake, process, or secure an actively expanding lithium-ion fire hazard, I was forced to immediately evacuate the explosive device from my home to protect my property. I was already recovering from a severe physical injury (a torn meniscus). The manufacturer’s safety defect forced me to walk and navigate multiple public retail and recycling locations on this vulnerable knee. This forced emergency physical exertion caused acute physical strain, severe inflammation, and a significant medical setback to my existing meniscus injury

No one hurt Made Jul 9, 2026, sent to the company Jul 14, 2026, published by CPSC Jul 28, 2026
The product, in the report: Cell phone / smartphone. It is a Samsung Galaxy S22 with an internal lithium-ion battery that has physically swollen, causing the phone’s outer frame and glass casing to expand and separate.
I am reporting a severe hardware safety defect and thermal hazard involving a Samsung Galaxy S22. The internal lithium-ion battery on this device is actively and physically swelling, causing the outer casing of the phone to expand and separate. This defect poses an immediate risk of thermal runaway, fire, or chemical leakage within my household. I have been trying to get Samsung to safely mitigate this hazard for over three weeks under an active case ticket (#[REDACTED]). Throughout this month-long period, Samsung’s front-line phone support has consistently delayed resolution, refused immediate supervisor escalations, and repeatedly disconnected/hung up on my calls when I requested to speak with their Claims Department to arrange a safe return. Although front-line agents finally promised a 48-hour callback after I stated my intent to file a federal safety report, the company has left a physically hazardous, unstable battery defect unaddressed in a consumer home for nearly a month without providing a fire-safe retrieval container or replacement. I am filing this report to officially document the hazard and compel corporate compliance

The product, in the report: Telephone.
The consumer reports significant battery safety defects with two Samsung telephones purchased in 2024. According to the consumer, both devices began exhibiting the same malfunction in March 2026. The lithium-ion batteries began overheating and swelling, causing the screens to lift and separate from the device housing. The consumer is aware that Samsung has had knowledge of similar issues, but no recall has been issued for this model.
The consumer contacted Samsung’s claims department several weeks prior to July 1, 2026. Samsung requested that she mail the device to them for inspection and repair. The consumer declined this request due to concerns that mailing a swelling lithium-ion battery presents a fire hazard. The consumer then emailed Samsung’s CEO expressing these concerns. On June 30, 2026, a Samsung representative, identified as a “case manager,” contacted the consumer regarding the complaint. She again requested that the phone be mailed in for inspection and offered compensation of 50 dollars along with a repair or replacement. The consumer declined, stating that the offer was unacceptable given the safety risk and the fact that the defect affects both of her phones. She reiterated that she is unwilling to mail a potentially dangerous device.
On the morning of July 1, 2026, the consumer informed Samsung that she would not be sending the device. Later that day, [REDACTED] informed her that Samsung could take no further action.
The consumer believes the defect constitutes a serious safety issue and that Samsung’s current remedy is inadequate. Due to the hazardous condition of the batteries and the fact that both devices purchased the same year developed the same problem, the consumer requests a brand-new replacement phone rather than a repair or partial compensation. The product, in the report: Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra smartphone. High-end Android device with a large approximately 6.8-inch display. The phone contains a lithium-ion battery that experienced catastrophic thermal runaway (battery logic reached 152% while powered off, extreme heat, and visible melting on the bottom of the screen).A second identical S25 Ultra was also delivered to me by [REDCATED].
On May 7, 2026 at approximately 4:00 AM, after a forced [REDACTED] software update, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra began catastrophic thermal runaway. Developer tools and options were removed. I monitored it closely throughout the day with screenshots and videos as the battery percentage climbed higher and higher, eventually reaching 152%. Camera and USB functions failed. Red warning lights appeared as catastrophic failure occurred. I barely managed to power it off and threw it into the yard for safety. When [REDACTED] County Hazmat arrived, we observed that more than 50% battery had drained while the device was powered off after the runaway. Hazmat classified it as Level 9 Hazardous Material. The county was not equipped to store it as evidence, so the only options were to destroy it or leave it with us. It remains stored safely outdoors as evidence.A second S25 Ultra was delivered via [REDACTED] using a forged signature ([REDACTED]County Sheriff Report #[REDACTED]). [REDACTED]has continued a 39+ day pattern of harassment, sending additional [REDCATED] packages on June 4, 5, 8, and 9, and demanding that I personally mail the hazardous device in its unopened box, despite my repeated written refusals. [REDACTED] had promised a non-Samsung replacement during a May 7 call after the FCC served them (Ticket #[REDACTED]). Every [REDACTED] location and their 800# refused to accept it. The entire household is terrified of the device no one dares touch it. I had to purchase my own safe [REDACTED] phone. This has caused extreme stress and medical harm to the entire medically fragile household of 14 people, including a 95-year-old grandmother, uncle with advanced cancer, autistic family members including a 4-year-old, cousin with potentially fatal scleroderma, two aunts with life-threatening conditions including advanced HIV, and myself with ruptured discs, neuropathy and carpal tunnel in left arm, severe PTSD on maximum daily diazepam, chronic GERD, and angina requiring nitroglycerin. The stress triggered a 911 call on May 18, 2026 for chest pressure and extreme pain that lasted over a week.

The product, in the report: Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra smartphone, Titanium Gray color, 162.8 x 77.6 x 8.2 mm
On multiple occasions over the last month, my Samsung smartphone -- a Galaxy S25 Ultra -- has experienced severe, recurring thermal runaway events resulting in consecutive battery swelling, expanding the phone’s chassis and making the device physically too hot to touch.
The issue began with the original battery swelling, causing the back panel to separate. I took the device to an authorized Samsung service partner, [REDACTED], where the battery was replaced with an official OEM part. Within days, that second battery swelled completely up inside the chassis. I returned to the authorized [REDACTED] service center for a second replacement. The third replacement battery is now actively swelling, bloating the chassis, and radiating extreme heat even when idle. It measures at a temperature of 90 degrees C, or 194 F, and caused minor burns to my palm which took several days to heal.
Because this catastrophic failure has occurred across three separate, brand-new batteries, the internal charging logic board or power management integrated circuit (PMIC) of the phone is fundamentally defective. It is delivering improper voltage, creating an ongoing fire, explosion, and chemical hazard in my home and workplace.
Despite reporting this multi-stage safety loop to Samsung customer service over a two-week period, frontline support agents have repeatedly failed to escalate the issue, dropped communications, and closed my active service tickets without resolution. The device cannot be safely operated, cannot be charged, and represents a significant thermal safety hazard.

My Samsung S23 ultra did a software upgrade in April of 2026. Immediately after the upgrade, the battery was dying extremely fast, to the point of charging it 4 times a day compared to the previous once a day. My phone was also over heating as well. I contacted Samsung members and they did not provide any help. 2 weeks after the upgrade I noticed the baxk of my phone was separating from the frame. I noticed the battery was swollen like also called pillowing. I called Samsung and they said I had to pay to repair the phone. Even though I told them the damage was from a software upgrade from April not due to wear tear. I later emailed the CE Os office and she said that I was eligible for a 1 time repair. I EXPRESSED that the S23 is a faulty FIre Haazard due to the pillowing of the battery. I asked for a new replacement phone due to the fact that this is a major safety issue with the phone causing the phone not to be structurally sound. She only still offered a repair. I have emailed them 2 more times with no response back. In addition, I am unable to transfer my information from the s23 to an older previous phone due to the fact that it kept giving an error message. Also, I um unable to turn the s23 on without the phone getting extremely HOT. I am not comfortable keeping the s23 ultra in my house due to a fire risk. It seems Samsung is not taking this serious. There have been other reports stating that the April upgrade is causing battery problems.

The product, in the report: Phone, business S24 Ultra
Samsung is knowingly putting out defective product that is Dangerous, and has, in fact, exploded on a colleague of mine.
Samsung phones are a safety hazard to consumers! I have purchased sixteen different phones since december 2023, because of defects dysfunction, it malfunctioned losing information, not saving information. All these are motherboard, related issues, software issues problems. When the phone heats up, there’s more damages done to the phone, so they continue to mount. The dysfunction and safety. Hazards compound. Having that many phones and more in earlier years, I would say, that I’m an expert on some of the problems and dysfunction consistent with samsung phones, and the deceptions of Samsung and their programmed employees, and dangers their devices are posing. Deception would be bad enough. Putting out defective product, it horrible, but they’re actually deceiving people in putting out EXPLODING, OVERHEATING AND UNSAFE PRODUCTS, KNOWINGLY, AS THESE ISSUES ARE AND HVE BEEN REPORTED OVER AND AGAIN. SAMSUNG KNOWINGLY SELLS products that have defective motherboards and are prone to heat up, AND EVEN BLOW UP!
NOTE: heating further damages the motherboard, so it’s impossible to regulate its own temperature. Temperatures reach burning levels where a consumer’s hand cannot hold the device. Devices sometimes shut down and sometimes don’t shut down because there’s damage to the motherboard reading, what’s going on and stopping it. A colleague of mine actually had a Samsung product, a recent model that blew up in their hand thankfully, there were outdoors and were able to throw the phone about 25 feet away from them. With a hurried flip and still, we’re burned and taken over by the toxic fumes coming out of the phone. As colored spark shot everywhere. Person was well aware that if they were driving they would have been dead because they would have dropped the phone in their lap and been consumed by the heat and the toxic fumes burning their abdomen or legs, the seat of the car and they probably would have swerved off the road and either died of one.Thing or the other or both. And as of dictating this, some of the damages to the motherboard because of the heat are causing the dictation to go wonky, there are punctuations in the middle of sentences “[REDACTED] are altered.” Case in point, my speech was “and words altered.” I have had this phone tested before. I even touched it by a service center that samsung directed me to because I also had issues and was directed there with previous phones. So as not to be blamed for doing anything to the phone or I was sent the box, and I literally brought it to the service center to open for me. They found five failures of the motherboard. And the notation was that it would be prone to overheating because of the damages of the motherboard. And true to form it has heated up to the point where I can’t hold it in my hand. I contacted samsung right then, in the service center with the service rep right there to corroborate. What I was telling them and send a report to samsung. 2 individuals had set up deliveries, including at that time in the service center. To send me a replacement phone that they checked out to make sure it was working properly something they would be proud of yet that phone was never received. A second person at samsung set up a delivery and that phone was also never received. They also claim that they don’t have the report showing the defects from the service center. I’ve been on the phone.Dozens of times at least in each month, trying to get to somebody of authority in samsung to follow through on replacing this phone, which now houses very important information that I cannot just load anywhere or let go. I don’t have any other phone options or income options to purchase another phone. After spending $33k on samsung phones since December 2023! Phone after phone after phone after phone have shown signs of the same defect, which we now know are motherboard issues that they’re not properly producing, each phone has its own other damages, which render them pretty near dysfunctional. Calling in and out it’s difficult because the motherboard defects do not allow for the phone to connect to the network properly and consistently. Having the phone, look up information, follow directives. Also is rendered nearly useless, oftentimes if not all the time. Even things like dictating in samsung notes causes more work to correct the original dictation benefits. It freezes up. It doesn’t follow directives, uh, no, it pops up things on its own. These are all issues from the motherboard dysfunction. So I literally am in fear for my safety. Having this phone which I thought would have been replaced by now. I would have thought that Samsung would care enough about its product and its consumers to address this. And they have basically stuck to a protocol of the same old same old. They want me to send a phone in now. And they say it’s 3 to 5 days for them. To issue some resolve, the problem is it’s not 3 to 5 days. It’s three weeks because i’ve done this before I know. The whole idea for going to the service center was the reservisor center war would report with authority what was going on with the phone, and samsung was supposed to respond to that. They are now ignoring the reports, ignoring the directives ignoring that is an option and telling me I need to send a phone in. But I cannot be without a phone for my own safety. For what I do as a service for connection with my family for 3 weeks. Oftentimes they basically just Poo poo any damages to the phone. They tell you the phone is fine. Send it back to you in the same condition, it was sent. Gameplay, it’s a farce, it’s pretending to serve when they’re not actually fulfilling service. They’re filipino call centers have people that are untrained, they read off a cue cards, they’re not actually trying to help resolve an issue, but they want to look like it. They put people on indefinite holds. They put people on, hold just to read something instead of engaging with the customer. Yeah, and really understanding what the goal is and what needs to get done efficiently and effectively. So that there’s a win win for everyone. They sabotage resources in purchase, they sabotage resources in using their phones investing in the phones they sabotage. Trust they sabotage service, they sabotage. Dependability. Samsung has lost sight of the consumer. Altogether, they’re putting out defective products knowingly. They’re putting out dangerous products knowingly. And there’s no way to get an answer to any of this because of the systemic runaround things that they offer and telling people someone will call them twenty 42 forty eight hours. That never works. Because professional people work by schedule and invariably, they’ll call in the middle of something because there’s no schedule and they say they’d done their job because they called, yeah, even if they didn’t get in touch with someone, it’s a lose lose situation and they know it and that’s why they do it. They should take care of the customer. When the customer needs the care when the customer’s on the phone. That’s what customer service is about. Taking care of the customer when a customer needs the help, not when they feel like getting back around to someone you know, because they’re so busy addressing it. Issues that they create for people to keep themselves busy, and they have so many problems. And so few people to address that, so many problems they’re causing, it literally is a self serving system. And the consumer loses every time loses time loses other resources loses energy momentum. FocusIt’s a distraction that does not work, and it will never work that way. They are abusing people’s resources and getting away with it.Unless some entity like yours does something to call it out. I need a replacement phone. I’m not thrilled about samsung, but I purchased, and they owe me a phone that actually functions.

They have failed to: -Acknowledge the life-threatening nature of the incident -Provide a Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of the explosion -Offer any support for data recovery, medical evaluation, or emotional trauma -Reimburse or assist with property damage, instead placing an unreasonable burden of documentation on me -Provide a loaner device during the investigation period I am seeking the CPSCs guidance and support in addressing this matter and ensuring that appropriate safety measures are taken to protect other consumers. I am prepared to provide photos, documentation, and any other evidence required to support your investigation. Thank you for your attention to this urgent safety issue. Subject: Urgent Safety Hazard Swollen Samsung Battery
Hello,
I am reporting a serious safety issue with my Samsung phone. I purchased it about two years ago, and recently the battery started swelling. The swelling is getting worse every day, and I am concerned it may explode or catch fire.
I rely on this phone daily and have no other device to use. The swelling has caused the phones body to separate, and it now feels unsafe to handle. This is a manufacturing defect and a fire hazard, not normal wear and tear.
I request that Samsung immediately replace the battery (or the entire device) at no cost and investigate this issue to prevent harm to other customers.
This complaint has also been submitted to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the [REDACTED] for record and follow-up. Please treat this matter as urgent.

The product, in the report: Samsung S10e cell phone Model SM-G970U color- silver size-5.60 in X 2.75 in X 0.33 in
I had my Samsung S10e model SM-G970U on a wireless charger over night (like I always have for the past 5+years) but when I went to use the phone the next morning approximately 5 days ago, the phone was too hot to touch. The battery had swelled so much the phone back came off. Now the phone is in what Samsung identified to me as a “booth loop”. I called AT&T and Samsung about the problem and they said they could not help. 1. This problem seemed happen after a software update causing the battery to overheat and become a “fire hazard”. 2. The phone will not shut off and continued to heat up until I found how to put the phone in “Recovery Mode” which has a shut off selection. 3. Research on the internet shows that this problem seems to be widespread on Samsung devices five (5) years plus in the Samsung S10 series. 4. Because of this all data stored on the phone is LOST. 5. Samsung has yet to own up to this issue/problem.

The product, in the report: Model SM-S928U [REDACTED]
I have not been able to reach ATT on billing errors. They do not allow scheduled calls to connect. On 09/25/204, ATT failed to provide simple customer service on billing errors for overbilling and erroneous disconnections, with restoral fees.
I purchased three of these phones from AT&T in August 2024. They immediately were covered with screen and case protection. In fact, I had trade in, and I keep my phones in excellent condition.
On 09/25/2025, I felt a sand substance coming on my face and fingers. My fingers got irritated and red. A person at the conference with me looked at my phone and said the side by the face of the phone and metal has cracking. This glass was on my face and fingers. I attempted four times to contact ATT to no success. I had to schedule a call on a system for 09/30/2024 at 8:00am. When the call came, again. It made me verify I was on the phone, and then stated to call back and hung up.
I called back and spoke to [REDACTED], who states that my phone would have to be covered under warranty. This is a defective devise that place glass on the consumers face. I purchased three from a company that cares less if defective devices are being sold by their company.
She put me in escalation with [REDACTED]. He wanted to pop off about I should not ask for a warranty. I never did, I need a safe devise, because this is defective. I started cussing and yelling “[REDACTED] is wrong with ATT?” I am filling this complaint and asking for full refunds of the phone prices. ATT never updated my billing or provided discounts. I had trouble at the beginning and was able to speak to a sane Advocate. If you call customer service, there is none to be had. I only had the capillary irritation on my fingertips, but this glass could have entered my eye because the phone is held to my face.

The product, in the report: Samsung cell phone
My son’s Samsung phone, purchased in December of 2020, overheated and seared the shape of the phone in my couch. It also burned a hole where the charging cord connects. Thankfully my son caught the phone overheating before in started the couch on fire or hurt anyone. I called to report this to Samsung on July 14, 2022. I spoke to [REDACTED] in the Speciality Claims Department. [REDACTED] had me send her pictures of the damages and told me she would send me a box to ship my phone to them. She said once they received the phone a Samsung representative would reach out to me and let me know what they would do for me. [REDACTED] said a box would arrive to my house in 5-7 days. When I had still not received a box by August 1st, I called Samsung again. I was told this went through a special department. They said a message would be sent and someone would contact me in 24 hours. When I didn’t hear back in 48 hours, I called again on August 3rd. I was told I needed to speak with [REDACTED] the person assigned to my case. I was told my message was marked as urgent and I would hear back in 24-48 hours. When I still didn’t hear back almost a week later, I called again on August 9th. This time I spoke to [REDACTED] in the Speciality Claims Department. I asked [REDACTED] to speak with [REDACTED] or a manager. I was told neither could speak with me. I told her if l didn’t hear back in 24 hours I would be pursuing my rights with Consumer Protection. I did finally hear back and received a box. I mailed my phone on August 12th. A week later I was sent an email telling me that my phone was being repaired. I sent them a return email sharing my concerns to which I have received no response. I did receive a ?repaired? phone in the mail yesterday. I have several concerns at this point. First, I do not believe you can repair a phone that is burned up and melted. I also do not want a phone back that could have burned my house down. Secondly, because it took them so long to help me, I needed to replace my son’s phone when he started football in August for safety reasons. Therefore a replacement phone almost two months later is useless to me. Lastly, I still have no response on what they plan to do about my damaged property. I find Samsung’s response to a

On 8/23/22, while unplugged and after 20-25 minutes of use, the phone caught fire while being held in my son’s hands. Within 15 seconds, the phone was engulfed in flames and toxic smoke, thrown out the window and water thrown on it to put out the flames. My son burned his hand, his blanket from his bed, and the phone was completely ruined. This phone gets tremendously hot, both while charging and while using it. It feels like when you touch a metal slide on a hot summer day. It Becomes painful to touch, and on one recently bad incident, I had to run my hand under hot water to appease the pain from picking up my phone. My palm was red for about an hour, and it looked like a scald. I’m worried that it is a fire hazard, and that my small children may be injured if the phone overheats near them.

The swollen battery is obviously a major problem with the Samsung Galaxy S10 smartphone. I’ve experienced this issue two years in a row -- once while the phone was under warranty (expired in April 2021) and lately just over a year later in April 2022 after the warranty expired. Like other users who complained about this issue, I use a Samsung-branded wireless charger to charge my phone (the Samsung name is embossed on the face of the charger). This issue is an obvious major design flaw, not to mention a massive safety defect that puts its user at risk of injury or property destruction. This expensive device should last longer than a year or two, and users should not have to sponsor or even subsidize Samsung’s flawed products. I was furious to find out that I had to pay for a mechanical defect that was NOT customer-initiated -- regardless of the in-status or out-of-warranty status of the smartphone.

Hurt, no treatment Made Apr 5, 2021, sent to the company May 3, 2021, published by CPSC May 17, 2021
The product, in the report: Samsung Cell Phone Model Galaxy S7 Edge Manufacturer phone #: 866-888-5503 9a-6p Retailer state: Allover U.S.A. & China
1/14/2021: The cell phone was being charged for 10 - 15 minutes, when it caught fire/overheated. The night before the phone wasn’t working properly and it would only charge up to 19%. The next day, he plugged the phone into the living room outlet and when he came back, smoke was emitting from the phone. He tried to grab the phone, but saw that the back had separated from the phone. He decided to take it outside and he noticed a lithium ion odor in his home. The phone was extremely hot to the touch, so he dropped it. He grabbed the phone a 2nd time and took it outside. He was able to get the battery out of the phone. However, he burned his right hand in the process. No Rx treatment was done.
He used a shovel to place the phone in the snow.
His home resembled a lithium ion odor for 2+ weeks.
He contacted the manufacturer over 15 times and they asked for the phone back. Box sent to Corp instructed me put phone & battery in together even though they were separated. The UPS carrier refused take the battery back, because it was against the law to ship the damaged battery. The consumer claims that the carriers UPS Corporate Office said that the Samsung dealer had been shipping phone batteries through this method regularly and they should not be shipping batteries in this manner. The consumer said he spoke with UPS Corporate Office. They said they were unaware that Samsung was doing this and it was a big risk to drivers, trucks, packages, & the public.
The consumer contact the manufacturer and they said that they would get in contact with the carrier and they had no knowledge of shipping batteries.
The consumer said he spent over 40 hours on the phone with the manufacturer and said he did not want another style of the phone identical to what he had. The consumer claims that a supervisor advised him to take the battery to a local store to dispose of it and he agreed. The consumer claims that the supervisor (name unknown) said that the galaxy S7 phones and tablets have had several fires reported to them. He told the consumer that they would not send him that same model. But they did anyway
The consumer took the battery to a local retailer, who disposed of it for him.
He received an identical phone, but it was at 0% charge upon receipt. He claims that he was told never to use a phone that was at 0% charge. However, since he needs a phone he charged this one, but it gets hot while in use and it will not maintain a charge. New phone sent on 1/21/21 (or tracking was generated that day)
The consumer is concerned that this replacement phone may present a fire hazard as well.
The manufacturer has the phone that caught fire. IMEI original phone [REDACTED]
IMEI# [REDACTED] is for the replacement phone that he currently has.
Samsung contact for report of incident cust. svc # 866-888-5503 (9a-6p) East
Report date to Samsung 1/19/21
Samsung original ticket # [REDACTED] 2ndary ticket # [REDACTED] 3rd ticket # [REDACTED]
Feb 19th a report to Samsung was issued stating that the new phone was experiencing the same issues as the previous device (ticket #[REDACTED]) failure to complete charging/overheating software issues

The product, in the report: 2 Samsung S8 cellphones purchased estimated Nov 2018. The batteries have expanded to the point of breaking the cases and the phones become abnormally hot under continued use.
We have 2 Samsung S8 cellphones that are less than 2 years old. The batteries have expanded to the point of separating the cases and they become hot under continued use. According to [REDACTED] there is only a 2 year warrantee on these phones. I contend that this is a manufacturing defect and the batteries and or the phone should be replace free of charge. This event seems to be similar to Samsung 7 issue.

The product, in the report: Samsung S7 Active, model SM G891A SILVER. Bought from ATT some time ago.
I am writing about my cell phone Samsung Silver S7 Active SM-G891A from ATT. Today I noticed that the phone was getting very hot, the battery draining unusually fast, but more scarily, the back of the phone was no longer flat, it bulges, so it wobbles on a flat surface. I think the battery has swollen. I was not doing anything unusual with the phone, just having a [REDACTED] meeting and noticing the wobble. I remember the S7 Note batteries were the ones that used to blow up, back when they were introduced in the USA, so I am letting you know. I cannot replace the battery because it is sealed in the phone. I feel if I keep using it, I risk damage to person and property. The bulge is a bit more that 1/8 of an inch from the original back of the phone.

The product, in the report: Samsung Galaxy S7 brand cell phone and charger.
On the evening of July 9th 2020 while sleeping I was suddenly awoken by the sound of hissing. Looking over at my dresser to see a bright orange flame coming from my Samsung Galaxy S7 phone that I had plugged in to it’s charger. Smoke started to fill the room as I got out of bed and unplugged the phone cord from then power strip when I exited the room. Informing my partner that “I think my phone is on fire” we came into the room to find it full of foul smelling smoke. We opened the bedroom window and turned on all the fans we could before leaving the room. Around 30 minutes later I returned into the bedroom to scoop up the phone into a stainless steel sauce pan and placed it outside on my balcony. We left the window open for the entire night and the following day.
The next day my partner was feeling a tightness in their chest and went to the hospital for a check-up. The doctor said she had minor lung irritation and if it persisted over the next few days to come back. Luckily over the next day it went away on its own. Myself I did have some irritation after the incident that cleared up over time and did not seek medical attention.
Fortunately my dresser did not burn and the phone’s case seemed to have protected it. The battery did send black specks all around that stuck to bed sheets, pillows, etc but did not burn them. The black specks caused a slight tingly sensation to the skin from battery acid I’m assuming.
The phone is a complete wreak and I feel that nothing is salvageable from it.

We live in a two storey house . The mobile was left behind for charging upstairs and smelling smoke we ran upstairs to find the phone burning . It was pulled out by the plug and thrown down on the floor ... once it cooled we took it outside and kept it far away in the compound fearing explosion ... since it was so scary and all were horrified as this incident could have happened while the phone was in my daughters hand !! Later after about two hours I pulled open the back cover and separated the battery out with the help of a stew diver .. to prevent any internal combustion.. it’s in a totally dialipted state and not expected of Samsung ... my entire family uses Samsung and we have two new [REDACTED] purchased recently , [REDACTED] and this S7 edge . I am so horrified I Cannot believe in Samsung anymore ... I want to return all the Samsung phones . I feel cheated and this ripping off trust by the brand and it’s cheap unsafe manufacturing . I had kept the phone in proper condition , charging at absolute proper points and no abuse of the gadget ! For a decade we have been loyal and this is like absolute failure .

The product, in the report: Samsung S7 Cell Phone
On August 3, 2018, my 2-year-old Samsung S7 cell phone was on my night stand, plugged in and charging overnight. At 1:00 AM, it began shaking. As I woke up and looked over, the phone began hissing, emitting smoke, and spontaneously caught fire. A 5-inch flame shot from the phone and it took off like a rocket from my nightstand. The power cord pulled it back, and fortunately it fell into a waste basket. Still on fire and billowing smoke, I grabbed the waste basket and dumped the contents into my bathroom sink, now filling with water to extinguish the fire.
I did nothing out of the ordinary to this phone for it’s entire lifetime, simply charging it and using it each day. The power cord in use at the time was the one that came with the phone. I am informing your agency about this product safety concern for obvious reasons, as you need to know that Samsung cell phones still have this issue occuring today, August 2018. It is a serious public safety concern.

Last night at work, I was charging my phone through the computer as I usually do. I was facing my other monitor and I heard this loud hissing. I turned around and saw a bunch of thick smoke pouring out of my phone and the case was peeling off and flying off of it. I unplugged the phone from the charger and burned my finger. The phone landed on the carpet and burned through. The back and battery of the phone are completely melted and the screen is entirely burned. We had to run and run on 5 fans and open the windows because of how smoky the entire upstairs of this building was.

This caller is reporting that her cell phone Note 5 purchased September, 2016 with approximately 6 months left on her contract. Sunday, February 25, 2018 she answered a call, heard a sizzling sound then began heating up as she was talking to her sister (her caller). She ended her call because the phone was becoming hotter and hotter. The unit did not burn her but became uncomfortable to hold. That evening she placed her phone on a charger as she normally did but it would not charge at all. She then placed it on a wireless charger but the cellphone again became hotter and hotter until she removed it but then the wireless charger stopped working and has never begun working again. The caller said that when she is sleeping since February 25, 2018 she will be asleep sometimes and random video’s or random advertising or it will freeze up. She purchased a new wireless charger which is powering the phone for use at this time. There are no injuries being reported. She contacted the manufacturer who told her to do a factory reset. She contacted her provider and they have instructed her to bring the phone and the present charger she is using and they will look at it and may possibly replace it

I purchased a Samsung Galaxy S6 when it first came out. Have used it without incident until Saturday 11/25/17. The phone was last charged at 3:30pm, using the Samsung fast charger that it came with. I made a call and then put the phone in my purse. At 9:30pm there was a loud pop and the purse caught fire. After putting out the fire, the cause was clearly the phone battery. The phone was partially melted with a clear rectangle shape on both the front and back of the phone. The screen had slightly popped out as well.

I have purchased a Samsung Galaxy S8+ cell phone. It has a glass screen. The phone is made so that you are unable to buy as case that protects it all the way around. I also purchased the screen protector for it. It slid off of the bed and the screen cracked. The glass has shattered near the edge and has sharp edges that protrude. there is no way to cover it or protect it the way the phone is made. I have cut myself on it and had injuries. it presents further risk. I have contacted Samsung and it is not repairable under their warranty. They will not provide replacement or fix it at their cost, In making a product of this kind, a company needs to provide safety features to prevent risk of injuries. I feel the glass screen on this product is a danger.

I returned to my home after several hours of being away to find my kitchen filled with smoke and a terrible smell. My Samsung Galaxy Active s6 had been charging while I was away, and it had caught fire and released black smoke inside my home. The phone was no longer burning, but had melted into the container lid it was placed on to charge. Soot shot out several feet in a semi-circle from the charger port. My home now smells like toxic fumes despite several hours of airing out the kitchen with the fan on.

The product, in the report: The product is a Samsung Galaxy 7 Edge cell phone battery that exploded, swelling the case and becoming extremely hot.
The product is a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge cell phone battery which grew extremely hot to the touch and swelled the case out on the phone while laying on a table. It was not being charged at the time.
We took the phone to Sprint and they referred us to another store an hour from here that repairs phones. Their tech said the battery “exploded” and said that by law he could not return the defective battery to us. He wrote out a statement and gave us a receipt for the repair ($80.62) We were also told that Samsung would reimburse us for the cost of the battery replacement since the phone was only 5 months old. Samsung said they would not reimburse us without seeing the old battery which is not possible.
I am aware that other types of Samsung phones have had battery issues and were recalled, including versions of the Samsung 7. I was told that the Edge was safe. I now know it is not. I am just grateful it did not burn down my house.

The product, in the report: Samsung galaxy S6 Active
My husband was in the bathroom reading the news on his Samsung Galaxy S6 Active and the phone back expanded and burst into flames. He dropped the phone on the floor and ran out and away from the billowing smoke. No apparent physical burns on my husband but the vinyl floor is damaged and there is significant electronic smoke odor in the bathroom and closet that will not dissipate and will probably require professional cleaning. My husband is asthmatic and, while the adrenaline kept him from suffering an attack at the moment, I worry the smoke inhalation might exacerbate his condition later on. It also should be noted that the phone was NOT being charged at the time of explosion.

On 5/29/17, I had my Samsung Galaxy S6 active phone charging on my bed as I was sleeping. It was not covered by any materials. At around 3am, I wake up to a hissing noise and a harsh, chemical smell. I then see a flash of bright light and start screaming fire. My partner was still awake in the other room and rushed in. He grabbed the phone and threw it on the outside patio. The phone spewed chemicals on my bed, a blanket, and two pillows. It burnt a small hole in the bed and in a pillow. The charger, the charging port, and the outlet were all fine. The combustion started at the top of the phone. Thankfully, no one was injured.

The product, in the report: Samsung Galaxy S7
I have a Samsung Galaxy S7. Not the one that is on the recall list. My phone over heated badly and melted apart. I had to contact Samsung because Verizon said they can’t touch it and said it was dangerous for it to do that.
I contacted Samsung I told them the phone overheated till it was very hot. Informed them Verizon told me it is the same battery issue as the Samsung S7 Edge and Note. They told me they will come pick up my phone. They came Saturday to get it. I received a report today so I called them. They said it was “repaired” and being sent back. I told them you repaired a phone that is having the same issues as the recalled one??? He said once they repair them they are good to go. I told him I don’t feel that is safe since the other models are being recalled. I told him I am not going to use the phone and I will be doing what I need to when I get it.
The guy who picked up the phone Saturday told me that my S7 Galaxy isn’t the only one doing this. He said they are losing money over the first one. Someone told me not to let them get away with fixing a phone that melted apart. Which is what they are trying to do instead of letting people know this is happening.
Today this was the result. I have attached photos to show the damage to my phone. They said backed cover cracked. Back cover was not cracked it melted apart due to the battery issue.

The product, in the report: Samsung Galaxy S7
My wife purchased a Samsung Galaxy S7 phone in July, 2016. After hearing several reports about Samsung hand-held devices catching on fire, we checked to see if her phone was on the recall list. According to our telephone service provider (Sprint), the Samsung Galaxy S7 was not on any product recall or warning lists.
Last Tuesday (5/16/17), my wife’s Samsung Galaxy S7 spontaneously and without warning began to smolder and burn. At the time of the incident, the phone was resting on top of a granite kitchen countertop. The phone was not connected to the charger, or any other device. Additionally, the phone was not near any heat source when it combusted. My wife stated the she heard a popping noise similar to a soda bottle exploding and then saw smoke emanating from our kitchen. I was outside and she quickly called to me about the fire. I witnessed the phone burning within 30 seconds of it catching on fire. Our house was filling with smoke, which smelt like burning plastic and electronics. There was also a low blue flame coming out the side of the phone and heat radiating from it. I immediately used a kitchen utensil to push the phone onto a cookie tin and then brought it outside where it continued to smoke for several minutes.
We feel fortunate that the phone combusted on the granite and during daytime, rather than any of the more probable locations that we place it (pocket, purse, bed, couch, driving in our cars, my daughter’s hands, etc...) throughout the day and night
Thankfully nobody was injured and the only property damage was the phone itself.
If it would be helpful to investigate this matter, I would be happy to send either photos or the actual phone to any independent consumer safety agency.
Our Samsung Galaxy S7 phone is extremely dangerous and very easily could have ruined the lives of my family.
Thank you for your interest in this matter.

The product, in the report: Smartphone
I noticed that the display glass on my Note 3 was de-laminating and there was a gap between the top of the side bezel and the glass. Upon investigation I deteremined that the battery has swollen. The nominal thickness of the battery is 5.4mm, and it has swollen about 80% to 9.4mm thick.
I consider this a dangerous condition and have removed my battery. Samsung refuses to replace it (defective though it may be) because it isn’t under warranty. I bought the phone new 3 or 4 years ago. It has never been wet, and isn’t damaged.
