First aid Made Jun 22, 2026, sent to the company Jun 26, 2026, published by CPSC Jul 13, 2026
The product, in the report: 570 EFI Polaris Ranger Crew
While operating a 2025 Polaris Ranger Crew 570 on a paved roadway at approximately 12 mph, with no obstacles or hazards present, the front passenger lower A-arm broke - separated at the weld joint without warning, causing sudden and complete loss of vehicle control. The vehicle pulled hard to one side and went off the road into a roadside ditch. I sustained a brush burn, injured knuckle, and subsequent neck and shoulder soreness as a result. A passenger was present and can confirm no impact occurred prior to the loss of control. The dealerships own repair order confirmed no damage to the frame at the A-arm mounting point, contradicting Polariss claim that the failure was impact-related. This vehicle was approximately 2 months old with under 20 hours of use at the time of failure.

My Polaris RZR 2016 UTV burst into flames while I was driving it. I was in the mountains and I had been riding the UTV for about 10 minutes when I heard a pop in the back end. I looked back and the rear end was engulfed in flames. There were no injuries. However the UTV blew up after and caused a 5-acre wild fire on DNR land

No incident, no one hurt Made Feb 1, 2026, sent to the company Feb 9, 2026, published by CPSC Feb 24, 2026
The product, in the report: 2019 Polaris Ranger XP 1000 EPS Premium, Magnetic Gray
I am here to report that My 2019 Polaris Ranger XP 1000 EPS UTV has shifting problems where the indicator says its in the gear you shifted it to but at times when stepping on the gas it winds up NOT being in gear which results in heavy grinding of the gears until all motion and the engine has stopped. This has been taken to the dealer multiple times who repeatedly says there is no fix. The dealer says he has a 2018 model with the same problem so if there was a fix he would fix his own. My concern is that these vehicles seem to be capable of reaching very high speeds like that of an automobile and the theory is that if it can slip out of gear when first starting off resulting in grinding. What would happen if someone decided to push the envelope of the machine’s capable speeds and at such time the gear should decide to pop out of gear? It is a startling event just sitting still beginning to drive the machine starting off. to say nothing about if someone were driving it at high speeds and decides to jump out of gear. I would surmise that the sudden popping out of gear would be so startling that the driver would lose control of the vehicle causing injury to them and any passengers plus possible property damage or injury to any others near by, or perhaps worst case death. I have not suffered any physical injuries at this time from it other than my wits and emotions being challenged every time it randomly jumps out of gear. The date below is the most recent occurrence but has been taken to the dealer multiple times over the last year for the same problem which again has no fix! My vehicle is being used as a snow plow to clear my driveway and a sort of utility vehicle during the fall to pick up barrels of leaves and the like yard work. I do not reach much past 5mph at any time and use it in low range 4wd But My complaint is not only for me but for all of those owners of the similar machine with the same problem who have been dismissed and told there is no fix. My complaint is to get this problem resolved BEFORE anyone is injured or killed. Thank you.

The product, in the report: 2025 Polaris Ranger Northstar XP 1000 ATV, UTV
I drove a 2025 Polaris Northstar XP 1000 a short distance when suddenly the vehicle experienced uncontrolled maximum acceleration, and ran into a large tree about 30 yards away. The vehicle seems damaged beyond repair. I managed to turn the key off after the collision and exited the vehicle. I stayed on the ground for about 10 minutes with significant headache. Two weeks later I was diagnosed with Concussion. Still having problems, with a dazed feeling.

He and his friend both were able to climb from it and move to a safe location without receiving any injury, but the Razor burned and was a total loss. This was investigated by a Polaris representative but Polaris stated that they could not find any defective part or nothing in the manufacturing that could have caused the fire. The vehicle was 6 months old.

Purchased 2021 Polaris Ranger XP1000 in Nov 2020. Oct 31, 2021 my husband was killed while driving the ranger home. Just found a text on his old phone that is not used except by kids that it was part of the recall for the throttle issues that was issued in Dec 2021 (after his death). He was driving home on a street from neighbors houses when he was taking a curve and crashed and died upon impact. There was no witnesses to the accident. Investigators did come out and I have a case from the fatality showing everything.

The product, in the report: 2023 Polaris Ranger 570 SP Premium side-by-side off road utility vehicle
I was operating a 2023 Polaris Ranger off-road UTV at low speed (5mph) and rolled over a branch resulting in the branch piercing the (plastic) inner fender well and allowing a dangerous foreign object to enter the passenger seating area, which potentially could have caused serious injury or death to a rider in the vehicle. After the incident, research I conducted indicated that this type of incident is a frequent occurrence due to the material used by the manufacturer. It appears this is an issue for many model years of Polaris off road vehicles.

My brother purchased a new side-by-side UTV model 2023 Polaris Ranger 1000. Over a two day period, three people in my family cut their legs getting out of the rear seat. There is a sharp corner in the plastic door frame. It kept happening to a new person, and some of the cuts were deep. They were simply stepping out of the vehicle. I took pictures of each injury, and took pictures of the sharp corner.

The risk is a gas leak which can cause a fire. These brand new vehicles have started on fire. Polaris has known since 9/2/22, however, they continued to be sold. Consequently, I purchased one on 10/4/22, because I had no knowledge. There’s no warning on the CPSC website. Polaris barely notified me on 11/29/22, after my vehicle was sparking. The product, in the report: 2019 Polaris General 4 (side x side)
I have a 2019 Polaris General 4. I was on a mountain ride about 5 miles out when it thru a code and went into limp mode. While limping back, a vehicle behind me let me know the machine was on fire. I stopped and was unable to put out with water but the other vehicle had a fire extinguisher. I was able to put it out but upon inspection the heat shield around the muffler was completely melted and the polyethylene tilt cargo bed had caught fire and burned about an 8” hole in the bed. In addition, wiring below the bed and other plastic parts have burned up and there is melted plastic all over the engine. Upon further research on the internet, I discovered there were recalls for 2016 & 2017 Polaris models for similar problems. The internet says that problem with the O2 sensor cause the engine to mis-fire and heat up the exhaust system which can get hot enough to start fire.

My Polaris 2021 ranger 1000 is disengaging out of low range and reverse on hills. In Forward when descending it will pop out of gear and start free wheeling, and rapidly gaining speed until you can get brakes fully applied. In reverse when backing up on a downhill slope it will pop out of gear and start gaining speed rapidly. I have a similar 2014 model that does not do this. It has been to the dealer several times, they replaced the transmission and it still doing it. The unit only has approximately 350 miles on it. It has been to the dealer three times and they say they cannot do anything further with it. I am a long time utv / atv / motorcycle rider. This is a potentially hazardous situation and u could lose control.

The product, in the report: 2020 Polaris XP turbo 1000 Razor, black
The primary clutch separated and pieces detached, which shredded the drive belt and left me stranded. This is the same condition and problems that Polaris is experiencing with different models, and issued a recall. The recall needs to extend to other models such as mine, due to the risk of injury by the large sections of material that detaches from the clutch and may strike someone if they exit the plastic housing due to the high velocity. I brought my machine to the dealership for analysis because it only has 650 miles on it, and Polaris only agreed to replace the defective part, and all additional damage it caused along with the labor was not going to be covered. The dealership estimated that it would cost me almost $1200, which should not be my responsibility due to their defective part. This should be a mandatory recall before someone is seriously injured. The recall on the other models are due to the exact same problems I experienced, and the injuries that were reported.

Hurt, no treatment Made Oct 26, 2019, sent to the company Nov 21, 2019, published by CPSC Dec 6, 2019
The product, in the report: 2018 Polaris XP1000 Trails and Rocks Edition This is a UTV designed for off road use.
This is a basic recap of the safety incident report sent to Polaris.
I was driving a trail with some side hills and turned down a steep 100 yard long hill crawling at 3-5mph with foot on brake in 4 low/AWD. Then my brake pedal goes down an inch. I pump it and get most of pedal back. A few feet later I loose brakes and take a fast ride with brake pedal to the floor and using what engine braking I had. I finally stopped at the bottom after a hard turn on two wheels into a V ditch crossing. The left front fender was damaged from the side of the ditch where it stopped. Pulled fender screw backer nut through the plastic and some deep body scratches.
I got out and inspected the brake fluid level thinking the master cylinder must have failed or brake line. The fluid was slightly low. I looked at the back side of wheels for signs of brake fluid leaks. Nothing on the rig wet. Then I see a mangled brake pad and backing plate laying inside the right rear wheel. First look at the outside of the wheel and I see the hub cap is gone and the wheel/hub are out of the bearing at a bad angle.
At first I thought the castle nut had somehow backed off shearing the cotter key. After getting a ride out for a jack and some larger tools than I normally carry I took it apart on the trail. I was shocked to find the brake caliper was all that was holding the hub and wheel on because the end of the stub axle that is threaded was completely sheared off. The hub chewed up the outer brake pad as it became wedged when the rotor and hub were separating from the axle and bearing. The hub was completely out of the bearing at this point and the axle splines where no longer in the hub. I pulled the hub and wheel off by hand! Felt lucky I didn’t lose the wheel and roll down the hill end over end. With help I was able to straighten the brake parts with a hammer and other tools enough to install them best we could. With another RZR towing me, we stopped every hundred yards to jack up the vehicle and put the hub and wheel back into the bearing. I rode the brakes in an effort to hold the wheel and hub in the bearings. Took several hours to reach camp safely.
This ride started out on flat dirt road about 2 miles from camp. Sunny and dry day in [REDACTED]. Mostly rocks and dirt like all of the [REDACTED] roads/trails. I drove across a side hill section of trail to a steep downhill. Some rocks here and there, but nothing challenging I have not accomplished many times in 30 years of off road experience.
I had no issues until brakes went out. I had just inspected all fluid levels and checked tire pressure before I started out like I always do. When this happen some CV grease got on the exhaust pipe and put off some heavy smoke, but no fire. I had basic tool kit with mini air compressor and tire plug kit in the bed inside a plastic tote tied down. I also had mini jumper cables, tow strap, rain jacket, an MRE, and some other small items along with 4 small bottles of water. Fire extinguisher is mounted on the rear roll bar.
I recently rebuilt the front diff due to metal cage on pinion bearing failing and eating the pinion seal at 550 mile point. I sealed the outdrive hub plugs at this time because they started leaking at 200 mile point. Basically a new machine, but I replaced weak front driveshaft u-joints at this time as well. I service all fluids such as oil in engine and diffs more frequently than needed, 25 hrs or less. Last service about 225 miles ago. I drive about 100 miles between a full inspection. OCD on maintenance in an effort to make my rigs last. Doesn’t seem to be helping this unit though.
As an ASE certified mechanic since 1986, I do all my own work on every vehicle I have ever owned. I’m certified by [REDACTED] on A/C, brake systems, fuel systems, diagnostic equipment, wire blueprints, engine and transmission rebuilds… both manual and automatic. I have worked for [REDACTED] turning crankshafts, boring engine blocks and re-manufacturing engine heads. I also worked for 2 years at a professional speed shop building race engines before serving 22 yrs in the military.
I maintain a maintenance record for each of my rigs. All my vehicles get more service than required. I have never had the rear of this unit apart. Still had original parts and tires on the rear. I never had reason to remove hubs until now.
My RZR has a light bar, roof, windshield, enclosure, heater and fan under roof for me. I have full coverage insurance in place. Insurance Company: [REDACTED]. No claim filed on my insurance. This was a manufacturer defective part.
I drive mountain roads and jeep trails. Most of that has been in [REDACTED] this year. Some in [REDACTED]. Few days a week around my home on flat forest covered ground.
I was lucky. The next guy might not be driving slow or be experienced enough to deal with the incident or have help close by. This is a part of the axle that should never fail. It appears that the metal in the stub axle was not heat treated properly or insufficient depth of hardness may have caused low subsurface shear strength at the end of the axle. Basically the metallurgical properties on this part of the stub shaft needs to be redesigned and strengthened. A better heat treatment process focused on the threaded part of the axle and shoulder would increase shear strength. However, the metal should be tested for inherent shear strength in this area and consideration of larger diameter material should also be investigated. First time I have ever seen a failure on any machine at this threaded axle point. That includes truck and automotive vehicles involved in major accidents.
Something is not right about this axle and actions to prevent this safety issue are needed. I retained the broken axle for investigation or testing if needed.

The product, in the report: 2018 Polaris Razor S900 60” WITH [REDACTED] SERIES OR MODEL # Z18VBA87B2 [REDACTED] ENGINE MODEL # 1205650
I have a 2018 Polaris Razor S900 with very low hours. 91.5 hours to be exact. I started the unit one evening and drove from my shop to my home for dinner.. The total distance is approximately 400ft. I pulled in garage like normal... I always take the key out..The key was in my pocket. I ate dinner (roughly 45 minutes).. I went back in the garage to return to shop.. When I entered the garage I smelled a strange smell but brushed it off... I sat in side by side, attempted to start it, nothing, no starter turning, no audible noise from fuel pump like normal and no headlights either.. I assumed dead battery. I removed drivers seat (battery location) once I removed the seat, I was hit in the face with the pungent smell of wires, electronic heat damaged or plastic burning. It was the same smell as the one I smelled upon entering the garage just way more intense.. Upon the removal of my seat I noticed immediately the fuse box cover having a burn or bump in the plastic.. When I pulled the lid off, the fuse box was full of smoke and literally on fire ... in the center of the box.. I immediately looked for something to extinguish the fire with .,. I found a [REDACTED] bottled water and poured it on the fuse box to extinguish the fire. the damage had been done.. I looked it over trying to come to a conclusion to what happened. In my opinion with the amount of damage the unit has. It simply had a circuit issue and caught on fire instead of blowing the fuses.. The fuses were all 10 amp red fuses. , the fire obviously had started before I reached the unit .. its simply too much damage to have just occurred.. .. The fuse panel and wire harness is ruined . The utv will not run or operate due to the damage from the fire, I think someone needs to advise others of this potential for fire, serious injury or even death.. I think owners should know, the key does not have to even be in the ignition for this to happen.... I can only imagine if this had of happened when I come home to turn in for the evening.. It would have given me and my family enough time to get to bed and fall asleep. I feel 100% this product has a major design flaw and is at fault 100%. I feel it would have burned my home up (my family inside or not) if I had not extinguished the fire when I did. The fire wasn’t smoldering, it was just beginning..... I would also like to state the utv has no modifications to the fuse box or wiring... It does not have any sound system installed. It is the way it came from the factory. I would like to say I understand that any electrical product can fail or have internal issues and short, but it’s the fuse box and circuit protection devices responsibility to protect the unit from catching fire and causing major wiring damages. My concern is the circuit protection device (fuse box, fuses and relays) itself does not work and has major design flaws.., It will not protect the circuits or actual unit from major damage or fire like it should have been engineered to protect. It will catch on fire instead of open the circuit protection devices that polaris designed them to protect...

My 2011 Polaris Ranger 800 Series caught fire from 10-25-18 in [REDACTED]. The fire began as the unit returned from a 15 minute ride. As the unit was being parked smoke pored from the engine compartment. It was eventually extinguished, but the machine is a total loss. There was a minor injury putting the fire out. The unit was towed to [REDACTED] so a Polaris rep. could come investigate. Polaris NEVER showed up and on 12/28/18 notified me via phone that were no manufactures defects. Polaris made this determination with pictures.

The product, in the report: Polaris RZR XP 4 Turbo Dynamix
On Saturday, February 16th., 2019 at approximately 1557 hours, my wife, two friends and I were inside a 2018 Polaris RZR XP 4 Turbo (RZR). Within 5 minutes into the ride my wife, who was the front passenger, smelled fuel and then saw flames to her right. My wife shouted, “We are on Fire!” I looked back and saw flames around my two friends in the back seat. I slammed on the brakes and shouted for everyone to get out. My wife and the rear passenger seated behind me were able to get out first. I was delayed with the 4-point harness I had on, but all other positions were 3-point (automotive style) belts. The right rear passenger shouted, “I can’t get my seat belt off.” As I moved towards her, I saw flames were all around her, she was able to release the belt and flee to safety. Within 10 seconds of her freeing herself, the rear seat erupted in flames. I then moved towards the rear of the RZR. It was clear the fire was coming from directly to the rear of the back seats. I looked under the RZR and could see active and intense fire coming from what appeared to be from the front, top area of the engine (closest to the rear seats). I made a futile attempt to extinguish the fire with sand/dirt. My actions had no effect on the fire and it quickly engulfed the entire RZR in flames.
As black smoke filled the sky, people came to our aid. One man asked what was the machine? Once I told him it was a RZR, he said, “they catch fire all the time...Polaris will give you a new one.”
Once the fire crew arrived, I was told about a recent RZR fire in northern [REDACTED] with a fatality involved.
My wife called a friend for a ride out of the desert. This friend is also a RZR owner. My wife told the friend what had occurred, the friend said (something that was shocking), “Oh, they do that.” I could not believe this. Numerous people told us Polaris had issues with their products catching fire, in addition to several years of recalls pertaining to fire-related problems.
During my initial research of the RZR, I never found anything about RZR’s catching fire. Once I put “Polaris” + “Fire” into the internet search, I was shocked at the pages and videos I found. I searched other manufacturers and found little to nothing relating to fires, compared to POLARIS!
It seems to me, POLARIS has not done enough to improve their safety from the lawsuit in the 2013-2016 machines. The problem continues and I can’t believe this company is still allowed to sell them. Not only are they allowed to sell them, but they are putting profit over human life! Thank God we didn’t die.
I had a number of friends tell me to call POLARIS and have them drop a new RZR in my garage. It appears this is how this company handles its dangerous products instead of FIXING THE PROBLEM. I don’t want a new RZR, I WANT this company to STOP making a death trap. I came within seconds of seeing my friends get seriously injured or burned to death. It’s clear the recalls and/or design of the machines have not fixed the issue with them catching fire.

We left our accommodations in Hinckley, MN and proceeded to a parking area in St Croix State Forest. After unloading we rode the trails for approximately 2.5 hours to Danbury WI. We ate lunch and proceeded to ride the trails in WI. We rode north in Wisconsin, into Minnesota and headed west to the [REDACTED] trail. We then headed south for an extended time when the incident occurred. [REDACTED] was driving, and [REDACTED] was a passenger. There were occasional depressions and minor washouts on the railroad grade but nothing that was totally unexpected or severe. After hitting a depression that was larger than most, [REDACTED] turned to say something to [REDACTED] and saw flames at the far rear of the machine. He proceeded to stop the machine with the intent of getting the fire extinguisher. After stopping and briefly glancing around for the fire extinguisher [REDACTED] noticed that the flames had already spread into the passenger area and that [REDACTED] was starting to catch fire. [REDACTED] realized at that point they had to get out of the vehicle because the fire was getting big very quickly. He released his seat belt but then observed [REDACTED] was panicking and struggling to get his seat belt unhooked due to his clothing on fire. Between the two of them they managed to release the seat belt. [REDACTED] exited and noticed [REDACTED] was still hung up on the lap belt with his clothing burning on arms and back. He went around the front of the unit, assisted [REDACTED] to get him untangled from the lap belt and then helped him roll on ground to put out the flames. They then moved a safe distance away. The machine proceeded to burn until the fire department and paramedics arrived.

I own 2015 Polaris 570 Ranger. The splined joint where the rear axles connect to the rear differential have severe wear creating excessive movement in the joint. The joints rattle and vibrate. I am concerned that if the joint breaks or locks up at high speed it will lock the wheel and cause the machine to crash. Polaris says this is normal wear but if I am concerned about safety I can pay for replacements. They say there is no spec for how much play is too much but greasing the joint will help it last longer before it wears out so they admit it is wearing out. Because Polaris says this is normal wear my Aftercare extended warranty will not replace them. I also own a [REDACTED and [REDACTED machine with the same joint and neither one of them has this sloppy joint issue.

Caller parked the vehicle and got out to inspect it and noticed a small fire in front of the engine. Caller did not stop the engine. Caller ran to get a bucket of water to put out the flames and when he came back the flames grew to about 3 feet tall. Caller says after a few minutes the whole POV was engulfed in flames. Caller was able to eventually put the fire out after the flames died down. Did not contact the fire department.
Caller sent an email to Polaris back in February expressing his disappointment with his product catching on fire. Polaris sent him a $1000 voucher to purchase a new product.
(Previous service done on the ROV. Caller does not remember exact dates) *In 2015 the caller received a recall notice for the product. He took it to his Polaris dealer and they did a repair on the product. Installing a heat shield to help prevent the overheating.
*In 2015 a voltage regulator was fixed under warranty.
*Caller stated that the belt caught fire and he was informed by the company that he was riding the ROV too slow which caused fire. Caller fixed this issue himself. Caller no longer have the ROV.

The product, in the report: It was red in color and it had roof , front windshield, rear windshield and had only been rode very few miles!
I purchased the 2017 Polaris Ranger 900 xp in November of 2016 at the Lexington motor sports! And me and my husband brought it home and unloaded and parked it in the garage and didn’t ride until 4 days later it had approximately 3 miles on it I got on it to ride and when I started it to move it it made a noise and after I pulled it out I noticed it had oil every where in garage floor so I pulled it back in Garage! So I called Lexington Motor sports and explained to them what had happen and they said they would pick it up! Sohey came and picked it up a few days later and kept it for 30 days and in the mean while I would call and check on it and they would keep saying they were going to have to rebuild motor! So they finally brought back to us after 30 days! So my husband got on it to ride it to get gas in it which was around 3 or 4 miles and on his way he stopped and picked a neighbor up so they rode it to gas station and filled it up and on his way back he dropped neighbor off and as he was backing out of his drive way it statered stuttering and missing so he finished to ride it home which was less than a mile so he pulled it back in garage and parked it behind our other ranger at the time! So we called Lexington Motor Sports and told them what had happened and they stated that it would be around a week before they could pick it up so it went on about 3 days later my husband went to move it so he could ride our other Polaris and soon as he hit key to start it it exploded like a bomb went off so he went to get off of it he smelled smoke so he raised bed up to find out it was in full flames and he tryed to push it out in panic which at the time he had a knee that was needing to be replaced at the time so he seen he couldn’t push it in fear that it was going to catch the garage on fire or worse! So he jumped on other ranger and back out of garage as he used it to push it backwards with ranger! So he finally got it out in opening and got to his self calmed down he remembered about a fire extinguisher that we had so he ended up putting it out! So my husband called Lexington Motor Sports and told them what had happened and in stead of them asking if he was alright they started saying that I had told them it wouldn’t run and acted like he had started the fire! So it up setted us so we took it to ypk in Jackson Ky and they said they would check it out and let me know what had happened! It was a cam that had messed up or broke! So Ypk said that they were $9k + in damages! We went back and forth with Lexington Motor Sports and every time I would call they would act like they had no idea what I was talking about so finally Ypk got us a new machine! And if it wouldn’t been for them I truly believe we would still be with out one! And it could have been a lot worse I could have been on a ride and it could have caught a fire and burned me and my husband up! So just thankful it happened the way it did!!

The product, in the report: 2016 RZR 900s
I have had my 2016 RZR 900 since November 2016. I bought it brand new. It has about 80 hours on it which anyone who rides knows isn’t many hours. I have major concerns with my RZR which is the main reason why I don’t ride much and the hours are so low. Right after I first bought it I had taken it to the dealership for issues regarding the muffler and exhaust pipe. They were getting so hot within a short period of time that when leaves would land on the exhaust they would ignite. After I brought the issue to the dealership they kept it about a week and told me they saw no issues and I picked it back up assuming I rode it to hard I took it back out to ride, but a little more cautiously than before. After about 10 minutes of riding my RZR I noticed the overheating issue was still there. So i stopped riding it for a while. Shortly after I got it back from the dealership I received a paper in the mail stating there was a recall for the fuel lines and heat shields catching these vehicles on fire and that they should be replaced. I then took it back to the dealership and had the mentioned issues fixed. They put a new fuel line and new heat shields on it. Thinking maybe the issue had been fixed I started riding again.. But to no avail the problem still exists. I have sent it to the dealership once more for this problem and they told me there waa nothing they could do about it. I very much enjoy riding my RZR as well as my 4 year old, my 16 year old, my granddaughter, my autistic bother, my parents and many of my friends. However, I am afraid to ride it because all of my passengers sit right above the gas tank. I was severely burnt 28 years ago and the the thought of my loved ones going through that is terrifying. Therefore I don’t ride around much anymore. A couple months ago I received another recall stating that even with the recall fixes there is still substantial property damage and death due to the vehicles catching fire. So now it pretty much just sits. I have no piece of mind riding my RZR and I was curious what is being done about the issue. So far it’s been a waste of money and when I do ride it’s a constant worry about whether or not it will catch fire and if I can get away fast enough if it does. I have photos of my exhaust glowing cherry red. This was very recent 2/27/2018. So i am still having this issue

The product, in the report: Polaris RZR 900 4 All Terrain Vehicle
On Sunday March 5, 2017 I met with a friend his daughter and her friend to do some off highway driving. We met in [REDACTED], an area east of the [REDACTED] metropolitan area. We met on [REDACTED]. at 10:30 AM. My friend has an [REDACTED] Side by Side. We drove up [REDACTED] and turn off on [REDACTED]. We came across the creek drove up and down it a few time before heading up [REDACTED]. My friend joined me in my RZR and let his daughter drive his [REDACTED] with her friend riding along. After about a mile we dropped down into the creek again and drove up the creek having fun enjoying the scenery. We stopped after a number of miles at approximately 11:50 AM to rest and climb a mountain that overlooked the canyon we were driving up. My RZR was operating fine and I did not detect and issues and observe any unusual smells at that time. After about a half an hour we started up again. When we took off I decided, being we were going slow and crawling up the creek, to use Low Gear. I have owned the RZR for almost a year and had not ever really used Low Gear for an extended period of time. We drove up the creek approximately 1.5 miles and stopped. The boulders in the creek were getting bigger and my friend felt that his [REDACTED] didn’t have the clearance to make it. We turned around and went down the creek about a half mile to a road that led back to [REDACTED]. When we stopped at [REDACTED] we noticed some smoke and the smoke did not smell like water from the creek when it is on engine components. My friend got out ran around the back of my vehicle and said your are on fire, do you have a fire extinguisher? I replied yes grabbed the fire extinguisher from behind my cooler and gave it to him. He instantly put out the fire. The fire was about the size of a softball, it was the plastic that was on fire. An electrical component was mounted to the plastic. The electrical component had melted and burned through the plastic and was now hanging by 2 groups of wires. We were investigating to see how bad the damage was and if we were going to be able to still drive the vehicle. The electrical component was extreme hot. We disconnected the batteries first because we did not know if the wires were going to short out. We attempted to see if we could re-insulate the wires with duct tape. The connecters on the electrical component were really bad. We bent back the metal plate to see how bad and at that point we saw that the electric component itself was charred. We decided at this point we would tow the RZR back down the canyon. We cut the plastic open more so we could get the electrical component back up in the RZR. We insulated the negative terminals on the batteries to insure the cables would not touch. We towed the vehicle back to the trailer and pushed it up on the trailer. On Monday morning I attempted to call the dealership RideNow Powersports, where I bought the vehicle but after three calls and either being sent to the Euro side for service and put on hold forever I opted to call The Polaris dealership near where I work. The recommended that I bring it in and they would assist me.

I have never had to use the winch, I did pull the cable out one time about 10 ft and wind it back in just to test it. All the accessories are connected to the auxiliary battery. I ran the bus bar cable up to the front of the vehicle and attached it to the [REDACTED] Fuse block and all the accessories connect through it. During the ride I recorded a 10 minute video on my [REDACTED] of the ride. Here is a link to the video. [REDACTED] The entire ride was recorded on my [REDACTED] and the GPX file will be sent as an attachment. The vehicle has full coverage insurance however no claim has been filed. No one was injured as a result of this fire.
Polaris said they would fix the vehicle, they confiscated it for two weeks before I demanded it back. They said they would not pay because it was a consumer added accessory that was at fault. They also wanted to keep the defective part but I told them it was my property and they had to return it. I disagreed. I fixed it myself with an after market voltage regulator and have not had any problems since.

The product, in the report: Side-by-side UTV
The consumer indicates that he has had to take his UTV to the dealership three to four times for repairs to its transmission and to its back-end. The transmission is not engaging correctly as when switching from low or high to reverse it will grind. The only way to get the transmission to switch is to shove it into gear however it will still grind. At this point, the consumer needs to put the transmission into parking and then try to put it in reverse. The consumer has only noted the grinding problem when the UTV is in four-wheel drive, and he has ran ten to twenty miles on it.
The grinding of the transmission is attempted to be mimicked multiple times at the dealership however they have been unsuccessful as they are unable to ride it ten to twenty miles in the lot. The one time that they ran it this long, the representative informed the consumer that the UTV was not in four-wheel rive mode.
05/2016: The UTV was remedied under a recall for posing a fire hazard. Unit caught fire after the recall and it was fixed.
At one point in early 2016, the consumer was informed by representatives that the dealership used transmission parts from a RZR 1000 to see if it would fix the issues his RZR 900 was having however it did not work; the consumer is unaware if the dealership switched back to transmission parts for a RZR 900 on his unit.
The consumer states that the unit is used once or twice during warmer seasons, and has two to three-thousand miles on it to date. The consumer plans on keeping his UTV for at least the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues however, at the moment, the UTV sits at the dealership for the continued transmission grinding problem.

I currently own a 2016 Polaris Rzr 1000XP. The recommended recalls were completed at my local dealership. Which lead me to believe that everything was fine. I received a letter in the mail from Polaris stating even vehicles that were already recalled some are still catching on fire. There have been several occasions that my vehicle has overheated. These times include idling in my drive way. After reading this letter it makes me question the safety of me an my passenger.

The product, in the report: 2016 Polaris RZR 900
On multiple occasions my 2016 Polaris RZR 900 has overheated to the extent that the machine left myself and my passenger stranded in the woods for hours. Both occasions occurred after the recall had been fixed at the local dealer where I purchased the RZR new. The first incident occurred trail riding, where we had began to start back for the truck after riding to see a waterfall. The RZR began to lose power and began to jerk before the engine stalled. At that point the engine had reached a level that the temperature light had come on and could not go anywhere or start the machine until it had cooled. On the second occasion I was also trail riding. The RZR began to do the same sequence losing power and bogging to a stall. I stopped the machine to let it sit and cool, at that time I was able to hear the coolant boiling. I then began my journey walking to camp to find someone to tow the RZR back. The RZR only has 213 miles on it.

The product, in the report: 2016 RZR 900 Trail
The submitter said he was notified by the firm that his unit was affected by recall # 16-146 and he took the unit to the retailer to have the recall repair.
The submitter said since the repair he has noticed a gas odor when using the unit. The submitter has found that the rollover vent valve is defective and believes this is the part causing the fires with these units.
The submitter said about two hours after using the unit he notices the gas odor and realized the rollover vent valve shuts, causing the gas tank to expand. The submitter said he has taken the unit three times to the retailer during the past year but since they could not replicate the incident they could not conduct a repair.
The submitter said he finally decided to take a video of the incident and he made a hole in the gas tank cap which allows him to see the excessive air coming from the gas tank. The submitter said he sent the retailer the video sometime in September 2017 and the retailer forwarded the video to the firm. The submitter was contacted by the firm and asked to take his unit into the retailer but they refused to tell him how they would address the issue so the submitter said he did not feel comfortable taking the unit to the retailer.
The submitter said the incident occurs approximately two hours after using it and during temperatures higher than 70 degrees. He also indicated that he always notices the strong gas odor.
The submitter indicated his frustration with the unit because he has had issues since the recall repair and the firm who does not address the safety issue. The submitter said many of his other friends with similar units have had this issue and he believes the rollover vent valve needs to be addressed to prevent future incidents.

The product, in the report: 2016 Polaris RZR Xtreme Performance Turbo 4 seater
This product is being used a family recreation vehicle for 4. Incidents of over heating began on my first ride. Temperatures consistently reach 220 to 260 degrees quickly during normal operation. Additionally, there would always be a constant smell of burnt oil or plastic during summer time riding prompting me to purchase a fire extinguisher and a rearview mirror to check for fire, smoke, or flames during any type of riding. After riding for approximately 10-15 minutes on the trial the vehicle requires 20-30 minutes of cool down to make sure it does not shut down and/or boil out the coolant.
Riding in [REDACTED] the vehicle over heated 10 times and shut down with smoke 7 times leaving my family and I stranded on the trail. Without any coolant left in the vehicle I had to hike to [REDACTED] and phone a friend to pick us up. Our friends just bought a 2017 Polaris RZR XP4 and drove out to pick us up. Upon arrival there was not enough room for everyone so we got my 2016 Polaris RZR XPT4 as close to the road as possible and myself, my wife, my friends wife and their daughter drove his 2017 RZR to pick up my truck and trailer. While on the trail the 2017 RZR caught fire and burned the rear cargo of the vehicle. Luckily I was able to keep the fire down by scooping hand fulls of dirt on the cargo area. My annual family trip to [REDACTED] was ruined. The 2017 RZR was replaced by Polaris and my 2016 XPT4 was towed to the shop but Chaparral Motorsports said there was nothing wrong with the RZR and Polaris would not allow them to take the motor apart or inspect the vehicle for burned wires.
Another instance of over heating and shut down occurred during riding in my local area. While riding trails near my house my 2016 XPT4 constantly over heated and the smell of oil and coolant prompted me to pull over and allow the vehicle to cool down. This occurred every mile or so depending on terrain and speed. A 10 mile trip turned into a 7 hour ordeal.
Currently, my family will not ride in the RZR because of the high probability of fire. This vehicle is unsafe and should not be allowed on the trails or road.

The product, in the report: Polaris Ranger 1000, Hi Lifter Edition
C We purchased a new 2017 Polaris Ranger Hi Lifter on June 30, 2017 from Sky Powersports in [REDACTED]. This thing was my husband’s pride and joy. We rode it every Friday night on a local ranch, with a dozen or so other Polaris owners.
In early August, our Ranger was running really badly, so we dropped it off at Sky Powersports for Service.
On September 6, 2017, we picked up our Ranger from Service at Sky Powersports.
On September 8, 2017, my husband and the rancher checked cattle and fences on our Ranger, before Hurricane Irma made landfall.
When finished, the ranch owner was following my husband home, when, BOOM, our buggy caught on fire! My husband bailed out of his buggy, and it came to rest on the other side of the road. Fully engulfed in flames, the police and fire department arrived and fought the blaze. My husband said that a huge, orange boom happened behind his head and he bailed out. The rancher who was following my husband said that it just exploded out of nowhere!
We contacted Sky Powersports to tell them what happened. They asked us to bring the machine to them, as they were pretty sure that Polaris would replace the machine for us. We dropped the machine off several weeks ago. Keep in mind that we had $6500.00 in extras on our buggy. None of which were covered in the loss.
I called Sky yesterday for an update, spoke to [Redacted], who informed me that our insurance company picked our melted buggy up this week, and the Polaris Rep hasn’t been there to take pics… he wants to know where the buggy is. How in the hell would I know?! They’ve had a month to take photos and submit them to Polaris…. If you don’t already know this, Sky Powersports is a joke. [Redacted] promised he’d call me this morning with an update. As usual, that hasn’t happened.
[REDACTED], the engineer from Polaris, contacted us several times during the months of October and November. Finally, at the end of November, [Redacted] called to tell us that our claim has been denied.

On Nov.11.2017 I drove my Polaris Rancher EFI Year 2015 for 4 mi on a Forest road. The machine has not been operated for about 5.5 HR prior, it has been total cold. After 4 mi I stopped the vehicle, let the motor running and walked about 3-4 yard away for about 3-5 min. When I turned back to the Vehicle it was on fire. Evidently a chair upholstery on the loading box got on fire from hot air raising up from the Engine between Cup and load box I was able by quick response to distinguish the fire before bigger damage. This could easily end up in a disaster. {Burning the machine total down and even in a big forest fire I brought the machine to the Dealer and filed a claim, which the dealer forwarded to the manufactory “Polaris”, they declined everything and I picked the machine up today after two and a half weeks. I paid around $13,000 for this unsafe machine, have about $600 of fire damage. I’m afraid to use it .

No matter how many times I tighten them they come loose after riding a bit of time. Plus the seat belt cuts in my neck when riding causing me to take my hands off the wheel to pull it from cutting my neck. This neck cut from the seat belt not only happens to me at 5’ 3 but also to me 6’4” son. This makes riding safety very difficult as I cannot depend on my seat belt. The product, in the report: 2014 Polaris Ranger 570 Crew. Red. Approximately 1500 miles.
On August 12, 2017 at approximately 12:30 pm, I went to my storage building to pick up my 2014 Polaris Ranger 570 Crew, which I was going to use to haul my boat cover and other items from the beach at my lake cabin in [REDACTED]. I started and briefly warmed up the Ranger, and backed it out of the storage building. I then drove my car into the storage building and closed the overhead door. The Ranger was idling for a total of about 2 minutes. The only thing in the rear box or bed of the Ranger was a boat cover that was inside of a plastic tote, and some hand tools. There were no explosives or gas cans in the Ranger or its box/bed. I then drove the Ranger about 2 1/2 miles from my storage building to my lake cabin. I parked the Ranger in my driveway and shut off the ignition. About 10 minutes later, I heard 2 explosions. About this same time, my wife and next door neighbor yelled for me to come and help them. When I ran to my driveway, I observed that the Ranger was fully engulfed in flames. Debris from the Ranger was all over the yard, including a tailgate latch that was thrown 75 feet from the Ranger. The flames destroyed surrounding property, including a large tree, landscaping, and the concrete driveway underneath. My wife’s car sustained thermal damage. No persons were injured. Two rural fire departments and the [REDACTED] responded. I have extensive photos and videos of the incident, but this Website appears not to be Mac compatible for uploading. The Ranger’s fuel tank was approximately 3/4 full. I filled the tank approximately 2 weeks prior. I noticed nothing unusual about the Ranger prior to parking it in my driveway. There were no gas odors, and the engine ran normally. I did not notice any warning lights on the dash.

No one hurt Made Jan 26, 2017, sent to the company Mar 3, 2017, published by CPSC Apr 5, 2017
The product, in the report: Polaris RZR 800S - 2008 thru 2014
The Polaris RZR 800S is a popular UTV produced and marketed by Polaris. The units in-question seem to span the years of 2008 thru 2015. In those years, the rear-differential utilized an independent axle produced originally by DANA/SPICER. In future models, c. 2013 / 2014, the DANA group was purchased by SCHAFER. Subsequent to this, the differential units are stamped and labeled as SCHAFER.
In the earlier versions, and up into the initial manufacture of the SCHAFER version, the pinion gear is held in-place with a nylok nut, a nut with a nylon insert to act as a lock-nut.
What has been discovered by much of the RZR community, and has been well documented, is the nylok fails, the nut backs off the pinion gear and the pinion gear becomes wedged into the ring gear / differential housing and fails catastrophically.
This results in the differential seizing, and the entire rear-end drive unexpectedly seizing.
The failure occurs while the vehicle is in-motion and can occur without warning and without recourse.
Consequently, with the rear-drive locked-up solid, given the unit is a posi-track (positive traction) unit, there is no free-spin in the rear-end with the pinion gear wedged between the ring gear and a hole in the housing of the differential. Thus, the rider has a sudden and complete loss of control and propulsion on the unit. It is tantamount to slamming on only the rear brakes of the machine with no way to regain controlled forward movement. On wet or otherwise slick surfaces, which is often the case for such riding conditions, the vehicle cannot be steered as the rear drivetrain no longer responds to either throttle or brake.
At an absolute minimum, from a cost perspective, the financial impact of this is in excess of $1,300, not including labor.
While the issue is very well documented, including by this user, Polaris has yet to acknowledge this as a clear safety issue relating to the proper operation of the vehicle.
Without knowing of this potential for incipient and unexpected catastrophic component failure, and without significant disassembly efforts, including dismantling the drivetrain down to component pieces to check for the nylok and proper torque (roughly 250 ft-lb) on the pinion nut, there is no way to know whether or not the user’s unit is at-risk.
For any responsible owner of the RZR vehicle, there should be a reasonable expectation that the unit would operate with proper routine maintenance. As such, there is no level of routine maintenance, fluid changes or otherwise, which would stave-off the nylok failure, backing off the pinion gear threads, and subsequent catastrophic failure of the unit.
The issue is very well documented by photo and video of multiple units both on-line and in the possession of this user.

I own a 2015 Polaris Razor 170 and it has a fuel leak on the top of the gas tank where the pump threads into the tank. Through my research I saw that Polaris does have a recall out on this exact same issue that I am having, but my vin # falls just outside of the ones recalled. I am wondering what is different on mine that it doesn’t need to be recalled also, and or what safer steps were taken on my razor’s vin # that weren’t taken on the razors that did get recalled. One would think that if the others were a fire hazard, then mine sure is also.

The product, in the report: 2011 POLARIS RZR SE 800. BLACK AND BLUE IN COLOR. NO FIRE SHIELD.
While riding in the Utah Desert on vacation. We returned to our camping site and noticed a burnt hole in the back of our 2011 Polaris Rzr. The hole was burnt plastic located right above the exhaust pipes in the back of the bed. There is no heat shield under the bed and could have killed my dog, my wife and my 10 year old child. The plastic melted onto the exhaust and had a very bad burnt plastic smell. We have not drove it since. I contacted Polaris and spoke to [REDACT]. They stated its not a 2013 so they are not going to fix it.
I explained the recalls for the 2013-2016 is for this event exactly. The fuel tank vent line (Z-16-01-a), the voltage regulator (z-16-01-c), “THE HEAT SHIELD (z-16-01-D) to replace and install additional heat shielding to decrease the risk of rear bed/box melting, and to channel fuel away from the engine bay in the event of accidental liquid spills.

The product, in the report: 2016 Polaris Ranger Side by Side
I purchased a 2016 Polaris 900XP NorthStar Edition on Dec. 30, 2015. The first time I took it out I lost all electical power. Found a blowen fuse to the ECM. Put in another fuse and it immediatly blew. After about 20 min. I put in another fuse and this time regained power and was able to start the unit. However, the check engine light stayed on. I took the unit to the local dealer for repairs. They called me back in about a week and advised that when they connected the machine to diagnostic equip. that they could not fine any fault codes even though the check enging lingt was on. They worked all week with the Polaris Factory checking items that may have caused the problem. They could not find anything wrong. They reprogrammed the computer and asked me to try that. About a week later they called me back and aske me to bring it back in as Polaris wanted to check the computer calibration. After this the unit ran just fine and no issues with it until June 9, 2016. On this date the unit caught fire. I had just started to go fro a ride and traveled about a mile. When I turned onto another road I lost all power to the unit. I pulled to the side of the road and turned off the key. I then turned the key back on and the unit started with no visable issues. I went for an 8 mile ride and the unit ran fine. No check engine lights came on. As I turned onto the road I started from smoke started coming from under the seat and I again lost all power. By the time I got stopped the cab was full of smoke. By the time I got out and called the Fire Dept. the cab was full of flames. The unit was completly destroyed. An officer at the scene found a trail of melted plastic in the road for about 100 yds. This indicated that there was a fire before smoke started into the cab. I contacted the dealership that worked on the machine when I had the first problem. They started indicating that there was an issue with the item that were hooked to the battery. The items hooked to the battery are: Factory cables that go to the front to an Aux. panel, winch cables, power wires for a Ham radio that are fused on bothe the pos. and neg. leads, and a 16 ga. wire going to a light on the roof. The power to the last two items was not on. I’ve been told that the motor in the Ranger is the same motor that is in the RZR. If so then it would make since that the Ranger would have the same Voltage Regulator that the RZR has that has been causing fires and under recall.

The product, in the report: Polaris Ranger Crew 900 UTV
Polaris deleted the Parking Break a few years ago. I Parked Polaris Ranger on slight incline. I had my wife and two boys age 9 and 14 with me. Upon getting back into the Ranger the vehicle would not go into gear which appears to be a common problem with all Polaris UTV’s after parking on an incline. My wife and two boys got behind the Ranger and I beside it to rock it trying to get it out of park. At some point either the pin holding the transmission or the gear broke allowing the Ranger to start rolling backwards down a hill 40 yards and into a tree. I was able to hold the Ranger long enough to allow my family to get out from behind, otherwise they would have been ran over. This is a common problem, when calling the dealer he says he works on one of these monthly as there is no way to keep from rolling if disengaged from park. He actually added they have had two roll across their business lot and one into a car. He also mentioned that Polaris has many attorneys on staff, this has been pointed out by many dealers and customers to no avail. In my opinion it is a matter of time before someone is ran over by one of these units. My Repair cost $7500.00, and I did nothing wrong. How many other consumers are paying thousands for repairs for a faulty design.

I am the owner of a 2010 Polaris Ranger Rzr S utv. Recently after filling the fuel tank, gasoline began leaking from the tank rather quickly and puddling on the ground below. Upon further inspection it appears that the seams where the fuel tank was bonded together have seperated causing a very pronounced fuel leak. I contacted the manufacturer with my concerns and didn’t get a sense that they believed this to be much of an issue. This is very obviously a safety issue as it could lead to a serious fire should the leaking fuel find an ignition source.

10/15/2011 (Approximate) - The consumer indicates that the tilt steering cylinder lost pressure and would not stay in the upright position. The consumer contacted the manufacturer and explained the problem he was having; because his unit was out of warranty, he was informed by their Customer Service Representative that they could not provide any assistance to him. The consumer ended up paying one hundred dollars to have the tilt steering cylinder replaced.
12/15/2011 (Approximate) - The consumer indicates that he went to the gas station to fill his unit up and when he arrived home and was dismounting the UTV from his pick-up truck, he noticed that gas had spilled from the top of the gas tank. The consumer contacted the manufacturer to report the issue but was informed that his unit is not included in any recalls and so they could not provide any assistance free of charge. The consumer is aware that because his unit was manufactured in 08/09/2007, it is not included in Release Number 08-521.
The consumer indicates that the he went to two authorized dealerships but nobody ever looked at his unit after they verified it fell outside of the recall date-range.
The consumer tried to patch the gas tank but was unsuccessful and hence ceased use of the unit as of December 2011.
The consumer believes this product poses a safety hazard.
Additional Information :
The consumer purchased this 2008 Polaris RZR on 08/15/2007 from ATV Motor Sports 1062 County Road P-47 Omaha, NE 68152 Deater #2677700. Nebraska Purchase Contract (invoice)#[REDACTED]. According to the manufacturing date sticker found on the right side of the frame on front of the vehicle behind wheel and tire the date the unit was made is 08/09/2007.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall alert #08-521dated 12/06/2007, the consumer’s Polaris RZR has the exact model number R08VH76AD(red) manufactured between 08/21/2007 and 10/03/2007. This unit was manufactured 8 working days before the date specified in the recall. The consumer considers this to be too close to the time frame of when Polaris contends the defect appeared. The consumer believes the Polaris RZR he purchased has one of the defective gas tanks involved with this recall.
The gas tank is made of plastic and is constructed of two pieces, the main tank itself and a “flange” that is “plastic welded” to the top of the tank on which the fuel pump/sending unit mounts to the tank. The fuel pump/sending unit is mounted to this flange by 6 machine screws. These are also a problem on this gas tank. The machine screws are held in place by 6 brass inserts that are basically melted into place on the “flange” these brass inserts loosened themselves in the plastic flange as I found out when trying to repair the tank after being turned away by Polaris. The tank has an embossed manufacturer’s clock(for lack of terminology) with the codes of the date it was made. There is no name of the manufacturer of the tank. See gas tank attachment .
The consumer took several pictures of the top of the gas tank. See attachments. You can see the fuel pump/sending unit, silver color, on top of the tank. The consumer started by filling the tank: with gas very slowly till just a small amount of fuel started to show under the the fuel pump/sending unit see pic #1. The consumer added just enough gas to start a small flow of fuel which seeps out between the flange and the tank see pic #2. Picture #3 shows a side view and you can see the area where the flange is welded to the top of the tank as does pic #4. This is the defect that Polaris should cover in my case. The fuel leaks between the flange and the top of the tank.
Just so you know there is a rubber O ring that seals the fuel pump/sending unit to the top of the flange. The fuel does not leak at that location. It is clearly leaking between the two plastic parts of the gas tank itself, the welded flange and the tank.
There are 3 other pictures I have attatched.#5 shows a(sorry)blurred pic of the gas tank serial and model number. #6 shows the total number of engine hour run time and #7 shows the total number of miles driven. As you can see the consumer is very concerned with this defect. The consumer believes Polaris has miscalculated the exact time frame as to when the gas tank defect was originally discovered. The consumer would greatly appreciate your involvement in resolving this issue and to publish this report.
Thank You

The consumer stated that the fuel tank in the vehicle is profusely leaking around the edge from where the electronic/display insert is attached to it.
The consumer contacted Red River Motor Sports, LTD about a week ago regarding a possible recall on his vehicle. The consumer spoke to [REDACTED] (Service Manager) who asked him to submit a photograph of the tank. Mr.[REDACTED] was in contact with the manf in regards to issue with this vehicle.
The consumer was informed that his vehicle is not included in alert #08-521 because his manf date falls out of the recall range.
The consumer is experiencing similar hazards to alert #08-521. The consumer was informed that the unit can be repaired but it would be at his cost (about $1000). The consumer does not feel that he should have to pay for this repair since the manf is already aware of similar issues involving the fuel tank with other vehicles.

I bought a 2008 Polaris RZR 800 with a defective fuel tank. Polaris has a recall on all of the machines built from 8-21-07 to 10-3-07, and mine was built on 8-6-07. I called and asked Polaris if they may be able to put this on the recall list, because it was only built 15 days prior to the recall, and they new that they had a problem with them. Maybe my filing this claim will not help myself, but it may help others. This fuel tank is leaking around the base of the fuel pump neck, and is a huge fire risk. I was wondering if there is anything that can be done about this? Thank you very much for your time.

The product, in the report: 2008 Polaris RAZOR ATV.
On January 26,2008 I purchased a 2008 Polaris RZR from a private party. The fuel tank was half full with no signs of any problems. Driving home I decided to fill the fuel tank. After arriving home, I was unloading the rzr and I smelled a strong gasoline odor. I was able to locate it’s source and found that it was leaking from the seal on top of the gas tank. I went on-line to the Polaris RZR help chat/blogs to see if this has been an on-going problem. What I discovered is many others have had this same problem. One of the posts reported that there was a safety recall on this model and year polaris. Digging deeper on the internet I found this was true but for only certain months that the rzr was made. I called Polaris and gave them my vin number and they informed me that my vin is not included in the recall. I find this to be unacceptable because if it was a safety issue for those other UTV’s then why not for this one as well. The fuel tank is in the passenger compartment right under the passenger seat. If the gasoline ignites both driver and passenger would be severely burned and or result in death. This is obviously a design flaw and/or the fuel tanks were not engineered correctly to withstand the riggers of an off-road vehicle. The razors specific information is vin # [REDACTED]. It is a 2008 Polaris RZR 800EFI. I am requesting that you add this year make and model to the recall list. Polaris should have to stand by their product and make it safe when they become aware there is a problem.
