The product, in the report: Fitbit watch
I received Fitbit as a Christmas present in 2017 and had been wearing it daily for about 11/2 years without any problem. One day itching started under the watch itself (not rubber band). I just wore it looser. Then I noticed a blister one day which looked like a burn. I stopped wearing Fitbit for one week until it healed. The day that I put it back on, I noticed blood on my wrist and removed the Fitbit which had significant blood under the watch. It looked like a burn which the skin had been rubbed off of. I have stopped wearing/using the fitbit as I am not sure what is happening.

The product, in the report: FitBit Blaze Black/charcoal grey
Hi. I received a FitBit Blaze as a Christmas gift in 2015. I absolutely loved it for tracking workouts, runs, steps, sleep, heart rate, etc. Sometimes I would take weeklong breaks from wearing the device. In 2018 after a break in usage, I resumed use of my FitBit. After two days, I had what appeared to be a chemical burn. Layers of my skin were gone, there was a rash, and it was sensitive to the touch. I even had burn marks in the patterns of the LCD lighting/ battery charging on my wrist. I discontinued use this time because of the burns. I washed the fit bit band in warm soapy water thinking maybe it was dirty causing the irritation. I tried again some time later and was burned again. I discontinued use permanently, which is unfortunate because I really liked the product until the physical harm.

The product, in the report: My Fitbit Versa has a silky, smooth, rubber type of band, adjustable, and lavender in color.
Hello, my name is [REDACTED]. I purchased a Fitbit Versa from my local Walmart Store. The fitbit has a smooth, rubber, light purple/lavender colored band. I wear the fitbit on my right/more dominant wrist. When I wear the fitbit versa, I feel as if I am getting burned and/or shocked. I have a square shaped burn mark on my wrist. My skin has a wet/melted look to it. It feels hot and really hurts alot. It irritates me so very badly. It burns, itches, and even bleeds. I bought a box of extra large bandaids with neosporin to try to help heal the burn, but it doesn’t seem to be helping. I am very worried and concerned that this product is burning my skin!

The product, in the report: Activity tracker
After wearing my Fitbit Charge 3 for a few months, maybe just 2, I noticed a mark on my arm. At first I thought the device had been pushed to hard against my arm while I slept, but it didn’t go away. I switched arms that I wore my device on after the mark became a big inflamed red circle that itches. I also thoroughly cleaned the charge device thinking it was a rash. I switched back tp my original arm and the mark reappeared. Not due what is causing it, but the mark also feels slightly rough, almost like a callous and sometimes itches.

I have noticed a spreading very red purple mark under where the fitbit back which has the battery contact touches my skin. It started small but now is pretty large. It looks like someone burned me with a cigarette but I can see two deeper burns right where the two lights are flashing. It does not itch as others have reported.

The product, in the report: The fitbit alta is an electronic fitness tracked that is worn on the wrist like a watch. It displays time and fitness tracking information when tapped. It is charged for use and tracks sleep so it is worn 24-hours a day until the low battery indicator comes on.
I was wearing my fitbit alta until one day I had an angry, itchy red spot on my wrist that is directly under the location where the charging indent is. I stopped wearing it and it turned out to be a burn. It scabbed up and went away, and I tried to wear my fitbit again but the same thing happened. I’ve since stopped wearing it.

The product, in the report: Fitbit brand smartwatch marketed as waterproof for use in swimming.
Fitbit Versa watch -- marketed as waterproof, and for swimming -- absorbed water under normal bath/shower usage and became extremely hot to the touch and caused mild electric shock in wearer. Company refused refund unless watch -- with was both very hot, and giving off shocks -- was sent through the mail, which I believe would have been illegal.
Fitbit is keeping money, not sending replacement device, and denying any flaw in product.

First aid Made Dec 11, 2018, sent to the company Dec 19, 2018, published by CPSC Feb 6, 2019
The product, in the report: Fitbit Versa fitness tracker, Black, regular “stock” band.
I have owned three Fitbit devices (the Charge HR, Blaze, and now Versa). I have experienced severe skin reactions to the standard band included with these devices. For the Charge HR, there was nothing I could do because alternative bands were not an option. For the Blaze and Versa, using alternative bands of different materials (not made by Fitbit) has resolved the problem. My complaint is that after reporting this to Fitbit, their only response was to offer a return/refund of the device. I made it very clear that my issue is not with the device but with the band and had requested an alternate material band (because they do make them). I even sent them a picture of my arm after wearing the Versa with the provided band for a few days. The rash I had was akin to a chemical burn which after a few days of care actually started to peel like a sunburn would. My most severe reaction was to the Blaze for which I have a small scar on my inner forearm from one of the blisters which had developed from the reaction to its band. A quick search of [REDACTED] shows that this has been a wide and persistent problem for many years with the Fitbit devices yet Fitbit refuses to acknowledge it. In a recent correspondence with them, they told me that this is “rare” and tried to buy me off by offering to refund the entire product. That is not what I wanted or asked for and they are clearly trying to just sweep this under the rug. Something really needs to be done about this.

The product, in the report: Fitbit Charge 3. It is a watch.
I bought a Fitbit Charge 3 on 11-26-18. After wearing it on my right wrist, I noticed that my skin began to feel irritated, itchy, and burning. After I removed the watch there was a red burn mark on my arm where the Fitbit had been. I took pictures of this. The mark is still there over a week later and appears that it will leave a scar.

Hurt, no treatment Made Nov 17, 2018, sent to the company Nov 27, 2018, published by CPSC Dec 19, 2018
The product, in the report: FitBit fitness wristband with slim 1.5” length by 0.5” width electronic face with 2 flashing lights & metal dots between the light which make contact with the top of your wrist to detect your heart rate. Electronic face is secured to the wrist by an adjustable rubber type material strap.
I purchased a FitBit Alte HR wristband in May 2018. As it states I have worn the wristband on my left wrist and not too tightly. The wristband is of a rubber type material which I routinely keep clean. I do not have any history of allergies or am I allergic to anything. Approximately 2 months after wearing the FitBit a red blister looking spot appeared on the top of my wrist and was itchy occasionally. As the weeks have gone by the red blister looking area has increased in size and remains red and hard. I have had no irritation from the strap itself and the rash area is directly between where the x2 lights flash on the electronic part of the Fitbit. I am concerned that my skin may be getting some form of chemical burn. Please advise if this product needs investigation? Should I receive a replacement which would not damage my skin? Thanks

I have been wearing my Fitbit Charge 2 for 10 days now. I wear it 24 hours per day, removing it daily to clean band and charge device. This morning, I noticed that I had developed a 1” x 1-1/2 “ dry itchy rash on my wrist, beneath the area where the band is buckled.
I have now washed it with soap and water (previously used water only per Fitbit recommendation) and switched wrists, applying a large bandaid between my skin and the band buckle area.

The product, in the report: Fitbit Alta HR with grey band
I have had my Fitbit Alta HR since Christmas 2017 and have worn it almost daily since... and more often at night. This is the second Fitbit model I’ve had. I have always followed the care guidelines given by Fitbit... cleaning it with soapless cleanser and making sure it’s dry before I put it back on and not wearing it too tight. After taking it off to clean it and charge last night I put it back on before I went to bed. I wear it as an alarm and to track my sleep. After sleeping, I noticed it had slipped up my arm further than normal and when I took it off it was painful, red and blistered underneath where the heart rate sensors are.

Purchased a Fitbit Charge 2 approximately one year ago. A rash developed under the watch after wearing it for about four months. I switched wearing it from my left wrist to my right and the rash disappeared after about two weeks at which point I returned to again wearing it on my left wrist. The rash returned about three weeks ago and I once again switched the Fitbit to my right wrist. This time the rash, which blistered, has still not totally disappeared though there has been appreciable improvement. Now I seem to be developing a rash under the watch on my right wrist. In general, I am very satisfied with the Fitbit but somewhat disturbed by the repeated rashes.

I bought a FitBit Charge 2 on Black Friday, 2017. I began wearing it immediately. I wore it continuously, removing it only to bathe. Suddenly in April, I developed a large red rash on my wrist. I developed the rash after working in the yard on a very hot day. I attributed the rash to sweat under the band. I took the Fitbit off for about a week. The rash went away, so I began wearing the Fitbit again. I made sure that I didn’t wear it when I would be sweating a lot. However, the rash developed again immediately and started spreading to a larger area.

The product, in the report: Fitbit charge HR and Fitbit Charge HR 2
While wearing my fitbit Charge HR I was all of a sudden shocked. The first time I shrugged it off as maybe my imagination. It was very strong. But the second time was so strong it made me pass out. Mainly from being surprised and it hurt! See I have a pacemaker and dysautonomia and sudden things like that can make me pass out. As soon as I hit the ground I woke up and threw my fitbit across the floor. I sat there in fear and disbelief. I knew two things, one I had to get my pacemaker checked. (Did it turn it off) and two I needed to write fitbit. I did both. They did not respond. And when they did they would not even answer my questions. They pretended as if I didn’t ask them. I never put that fitbit back on. I just used it on my shoe to count my steps. As for my pacemaker, it seemed ok. But the doctors I spoke to had no studies to look to. Was this product safe for me? But when they came out with a new one, I thought wow they fixed the problems, let me try this! Many shocks and burns later... Back on my shoe and sometimes ankle to get my heart rate. I figure that far from my pacemaker is safter. But is it really? This product is going to kill someone one day.

The product, in the report: Fitbit Flex2 black band with removable tracker
I wore the Fitbit Flex for approximately 1 1/2 days, taking it off to shower and get ready in the morning and to charge it. I noticed a large red welt on my skin, where the tracker was located. It resembled a burn with swelling. After removing the device, the welt turned into scabs, like my skin was splitting where the tracker was. There was discomfort and pain where the area was effected.
After a week, the scabs turned into scars.
I do not have any metal or topical allergies so I don’t know what would have caused this.
I contacted the company and they said they will reimburse me for the product. After doing some online searches, I’m not the only one that has experienced this issue. I mentioned to them that this needs to be documented and addressed. I also brought up that after online search, there are quite a few people that have had the same thing happen to them. There response was that there are similar reports but the number of users verse the number of complaints are small.
I don’t know what is causing this burn like reaction but now having a scar on my wrist says to me something isn’t right.

The bumps have been there for almost 3 weeks with minimal clearing. I was prompted to write this after reading an article that said the bumps could actually be a chemical burn. This should’ve been more clearly labeled on the package. My skin is very sensitive and o was sure to clean my band so this would not happen.

I was wearing a FitBit Charge 2 watch that I purchased on Amazon a few weeks before. While picking up my daughter, the watch shocked my wrist/hand, causing me to drop her (she’s fine). My hand was numb for the next minute or so, and ached for the rest of the evening. I haven’t warn it since. On the back of the watch, the part that touches the skin, there is an exposed connector to charge the watch. I assume that’s what did it. My daughter had recently gotten out of the bath, so it’s possible some water dripped under there, but it was not overly wet at any time. I am getting a refund from Amazon and will ship the watch back in the next week, but I wanted to report this before it’s shipped.

I was wearing the Fitbit Alta and it woke me up in the middle of the night to a very painful sensation in my wrist so I took it off and then tried to go back to sleep and my wrist still continue to hurt so I got back up and turn the light on to check my wrist and it had caused some type of a burn I did go to the doctor and they did say that it was a chemical burn and was related to the fitbit i was wearing on my wrist and the actual outline of the Fitbit is burnt into my wrist. I have contacted Fitbit the only thing they have done was issued a refund for my Fitbit and that is understandable but I do think something needs to be tested with this product because the burn in the blisters that I had on my wrist were pretty bad and I’m a deep sleeper so I think that’s why it burnt me so bad before I woke up.

The product, in the report: Fitbit Charge 2
I received a Fitbit Charge2 for a Christmas gift and within a couple of days of wearing it I started to see burns on my arm where the watch is. I switched arms and I also started seeing burns on this arm. The burns are itching and stinging. This has all taken place within the last week - 12/27/2017 to 1/4/2018 since I started wearing the bracelet. I have never had any allergic reaction to any metals previously.. It appears to be the light that is on the underside of the Fitbit that is causing the problem.
I will try to contact fitbit but I have read other comments on line of this happening to other people and the main consensus is that fitbit does not seem to take the complaints seriously. Shouldn’t Fitbit take some action regarding this problem?
I have attached a photo of the burn.

I gave the FitBit Charge 2 to my daughter as a gift in September 2017. After wearing the FitBit Charge 2 for a few weeks, taking it off occasionally, a red swollen blistering band formed on the skin around the wrist where the FitBit Charge 2 was worn. This injury has the characteristics of a burn, rather than an allergy. Layers of skin were blistered and peeling, the color of the affected area was bright red, and even “wrinkled”. It is about 2 weeks since the injury and it is only starting to heal with the use of topical burn medication, [REDACTED]. I took photos of the injury.

I purchased the fitbit blaze and started wearing it to get the benefits of the healthful items promised by the watch. But after about two weeks of wearing the blaze I noticed that my wrist stared to develop a rash and an itching sensation under the watch itself. I didn’t realize what was happening so I just switched the watch to my other wrist. After a short time I started to feel the same itching on my other wrist. At this time I took the watch off and stopped wearing it. I then looked on line to see if there were other complaints, which to my surprise there were many that complained about the same things I was experiencing. Please advise me as to what I can do from this point forward.

The consumer may add additional information to this report before returning her hard copy. (attached) includes photos.
Specifics - Fall 2016 noticed red spot. Contacted Fitbit’s website - they advised to clean the back, take breaks wearing Fitbit. She did - it lightened some - but never went away. Appeared to be a rash w/ a small irritation - directly behind the Fitbit band. Dec. 2016 Stopped wearing Fitbit all the time. Jan. 2017 Asked Dr. about it while at appt for another illness. He gave her a cream for dermatitis. Used cream - still wasn’t going away. March - 2017 Contacted Fitbit told them - sent a pict of her arm - they refunded without question (cost of her Fitbit. ($149.99) May 2017 - was at Dr. for another illness - asked about it - there were unsure. June 2017 Went to dermatologist in PDX, OR (We live in Alaska - small island) No dermatologist here. Dr. did biopsy. Positive for squamous cells sittu cancer. This kind of skin cancer is usually caused by trauma to the skin - which she surmised the Fitbit had done.

The product, in the report: Heart Rate and Fitness Wristband,
I purchased a FitBit Charge 2 for Mother’s Day, 2017. I received it a week later and started wearing it as instructed on the paperwork that came with it. It is supposed to be worn 24/7 since it tracks sleep patterns, heart rate, activity, etc. I have worn this tracker for the almost 2 months, This past Saturday, July 7th when I woke and took off the tracker to shower, I noticed a raised, red area on my right arm, It was itchy and was in the shape of the tracker with the two little dots for the charging ports. I showered, dried off and decided to wear the tracker on the left arm that day to give my right side a break, hoping that the marks would go away. Instead the next day the marks had darkened and by the third day my arm has a permanent raised burn that is shaped like the monitor.
I clean this tracker everyday when I shower, I am a Nurses Aid and I wear this tracker instead of a watch, I sweat during the day, since my job is very physical. I also know a burn when I see one and my skin is permanently burned. The left arm that I wore the tracker on for one day has two slightly raised points, where the charging port came in contact with my skin. It is not as noticeable, however I can see them. There is definitely something wrong with this product. I went online after this happened and only then did I find out about this product and the fact that this company has had numerous complaints about its products, however continues to push them. I previously had a Fitbit One, which clips on to your clothing and is fully encased in a vinyl storage/case. I never had this problem with it. I moved over this the Charge 2 as gift to myself (an upgrade you may say) Well this gift really came back to bit me.

The product, in the report: electronic device for tracking sleep, steps, heart rate etc.
I was wearing my “Fitbit 1” clipped to my bra. I had it on most of the day. I noticed a tingling sensation on my skin beneath the Fitbit which then started stinging and burning. I quickly detached the fit bit. As I detached the Fitbit, I noticed my skin was sticking and once removed the Fitbit had left a red mark on my breast.
I took a photo of the red mark caused by the Fitbit. I contacted Fitbit who sent me a generic letter telling me that whatever it was was rare and they couldn’t replace my device; but, would return my money when I returned the Fitbit. Honestly they didn’t seem concerned. I still have the device.

The product, in the report: Fitbit Charge 2 activity tracker
I purchased a FitBit Charge 2 from Best Buy about two weeks ago. By the fourth day of wearing it, I noticed a burn mark on my wrist, the exact size and shape of the electronic area. I have since found numerous complaints of the same burns from other fitbit users.

The product, in the report: Fitbit Charge 2 Exercise and Sleep tracker.
I purchased my Fitbit Charge 2 a week ago. I have used my unit for around 5 days. 2-3 days in I notice this awful burn mark on my right wrist. It is blistering and oozing. I can’t think of what I possibly burned myself on. I switch my fitbit charge 2 to my left wrist so my right wrist can heal. 2 days later I have the same mark on the same location of my left wrist as I experienced with my right wrist. The same part of the band has come in contact with my wrist on both sides.

My Fitbit Blaze caused a skin rash in the shape of the charger (square) on my wrist after normal use. I exercise lightly on a bike each day and do not wear the fitbit to sleep. I noticed the rash which resembles a sun burn which has not subsided in 24 hours.

The product, in the report: Fitbit Charge 2, Size Small, Black. Heart rate and fitness wrist band
Late December 2016, my daughter began wearing her new Fitbit Charge 2 heart rate fitness wrist band. She has the size small on her non dominant wrist. After about 6 weeks (February 5, 2017), she noticed her wrist appeared to have burns where the electronic part of the product comes in contact with her skin as well as other marks where the band comes in contact with her skin. She does clean it on a regular basis but this hadn’t helped.
She is an athlete so she likes the statistics provided by the product, but both she and I are concerned about the damage it’s doing to her skin. Please look into this. We look forward to hearing back.

The product, in the report: FitBit Charge 2
I HAVE A FITBIT CHARGE2 THAT BURNED MY WRIST. THIS IS CONFIRMED BY MY DOCTOR AND I HAVE PICTURES. LAST FRIDAY I LOOKED DOWN TO READ A TEXT AND SAW IT WAS CRUSTED WITH BLOOD. I REMOVED THE FITBIT TO SEE IT WAS COVERED WITH BLOOD ALONG WITH MY WRIST. AFTER CLEANING THE AREA UNDER THE FITBIT WAS RAW! I HAVE TWO FRIENDS THAT HELPED ME WITH THE ISSUE. AFTER READING OVER THE WEEKEND I SEE THAT 1 MILLION HAVE BEEN RECALLED BY FITBIT AND MANY PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME. I HAVE BEEN ASSIGNED A CASE NUMBER BY FITBIT AND THEY ARE OFFERING TO REFUND THE $$. I WENT TO MY DOCTOR WHO SAID IT IS A BURN TO BE CARED BY AN ANTIBIOTIC. IF YOU NEED A PHOTO I HAVE ONE. THIS IS BAD FOR ME AND THE PUBLIC. I HAVE FOLLOWED THE PROCEDURES OUTLINED FOR SKIN CARE. I HAVE DONE NOTHING WRONG. YOU NEED TO CHECK THIS OUT FOR THE PUBLIC AND MYSELF. PLEASE LET ME HEAR BACK. THANK YOU. I’VE NEVER CONTACTED YOU PRIOR FOR ANYTHING.
The consumer indicates that she uses her unit every day for approximately twenty-two hours, with the exception of when it is charging about once a week overnight. The consumer is unsure if she will be keeping the unit for at least the next thirty days.

I have a large red, scaly, itchy rash on my left wrist where the charging element on my Fitbit Charge HR normally sits. I checked online, and this appears to be a very common occurrence. My concern is that it may be a chemical burn, as reported as a possible cause, in a news story (link provided). http://abc13.com/technology/possible-cause-of-fitbit-rashes-uncovered/760009/
