The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. Seen by a doctor or nurse

Made May 27, 2011, published by CPSC Jun 21, 2011

The product, in the report: Char Broil Model 463212511 Gas Grill

    Char-Broil Grill MOdel 463212511

During assembly, a razor-sharp edge on one of parts sliced deeply into the interthenar region (flexible area between fingers) between my thumb and first finger of the left hand. I had been reading the instructions - no warning of such surfaces or need to wear gloves.

I’ve stopped the bleeding but as a surgeon, I’m out of commission for a while.

I’d strongly suggest a ‘black box’ warning that there are sharp surfaces and that gloves should be worn. As most people do not read the instruction manual before they start unpacking items (all I was doing was unpacking the box), the black box warning must be on the top of the box that the grill comes in.

The injury is fairly significant. It’s in a very challenging location. Strongly recommend contact with the manufacturer to remedy this.

I’ve notified the manufacturer at their web site and Target Stores where it was purchased as well.
