The product, in the report: Dehumidifier Soleusair by Gree model number SG-DEH-70-1
Approximately 2 weeks ago I returned home to find a smell of something burning. My Soliusair by Glee dehumidifier was the source. It was so hot to the touch it would have burned you if you held your hand on it. It was making a buzzing sound and when I pushed the power button the digital display turned off but the buzzing continued. I had to unplug it to stop the buzzing. I left on vacation on Sept. 14th and saw in the USA Today the recall notification. Thankfully the incident happened while I was home from vacation. When I returned home on Sept 21st. I noticed I have a slight smell lingering from the overheated dehumidifier. Still better than a full blown fire.

The product, in the report: A dehumidifier
We purchased a SoleusAir dehumidifier and I noticed that it generated A LOT of heat when running. I was concerned, but since I had never owned a dehumidifier before, simply assumed this was normal. When I saw the recall issued because of fire hazard, I knew my concerns were legitimate. Fortunately, we did not experience any negative effects from this dehumidifier, but I am glad we became aware of the problem before something did happen.

The product, in the report: Soleus Powered by Gree 40-Pint 2-Speed Dehumidifier
I had one of the soleus recalled dehumidifiers in my basement. Over the weekend there was an increasing stale / burnt odor coming from the basement. I could not locate the source until Tuesday 9/17/2013 when I realized the back filter area had ice forming on it. I unplugged the unit. When I did a puff of smoke was released from the unit and it had the same smell I had been smelling. I sniffed the back of the unit and realized something was burning or melting. I went on the internet and discovered the recall. Luckily, I did not have a fire. I returned the unit to Lowes. My son had been in the basement for extended periods with the smoky smell. I had thought it was a musty old odor not something melting.

No one hurt Made Sep 17, 2013, sent to the company Sep 24, 2013, published by CPSC Oct 24, 2013
The product, in the report: Soleus Air dehumidifier
My 81 year old Mother’s Soleus Air SG DEH45-1 dehumidifier combusted -- smoke, no fire -- fire dept. was called and identified the dehumidifier as the source. Massive smoke damage in the lower level storage room and smoke throughout entire home. She cannot live there for 1-2 months (estimate $25,000 - $30,000 in damage) -- your recall was 5 days after her incident. I looked it up on the internet at the time and saw that they had stopped selling the units due to smoke and fire but had not been recalled. I am very upset with your agency that you allowed a dangerous product to exist without prior recall but fully knowing the danger. She could have died if that happened during the night. She left home that day at 4:30 PM for a church dinner and returned at 7:30 PM to a home filled with smoke. You need to do a better job getting the information out on this recall -- people in general don’t consider dehumidifiers to be a smoke/fire risk and leave them running continuously -- even while they are gone on vacation. And -- people I talk to don’t even know there is a lint filter that should be cleaned. I talked to the fire dept. about doing local news and paper to warn of the risk. This is serious. Let’s get the word out. [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: SoleusAir model GS-DEH-45-1 dehumidifier
Our dehumidifier caught fire in the middle of the night last night. It was on a table and free of obstructions and had plenty of distance all around it. Fortunately no one was injured and damage appears to minimal right now. If we didn’t have working smoke detectors or were not home we could have lost the entire house.

The product, in the report: SoleusAir CFM-40 Portable dehumidifier.
Our dehumidifier (SoleusAir CFM40E) overheated in the course of normal operation and emitted a fair amount of smoke. The unit subsequently shut down and ceased to function. Damage was limited to the melting of the carpet directly underneath the unit. A warranty replacement was made, and the replacement unit was in use until the recall announcement.

The product, in the report: Lowes Purchased - 70 pt dehumidifier
I purchased a dehumidifier from SoleusAir Powered by Gree at Lowes last year. I finally got to using it and after about 8 hours my basement was at least 4 degrees warmer due to the unit (over 1000sqft). I was very concerned about the unit catching fire. Upon researching online, I see that Gree has issued a stop sale but not a recall.
I am very concerned that this unit will melt and cause a fire. The manufacturer is “investigating” the issue.

The product, in the report: Dehumidifier
I found my basement full of a strong electrical burning smell that was coming from my Soleus Air DP1-70-03 dehumidifier. I felt lucky that I caught it before it caught on fire. The unit is 2 years old.
I checked on http://www.cpsc.gov/ for a recall for this unit but I could not find one.
I contacted the manufacturer and they want me to send them the unit at my shipping expense. I’m already out $220 on this thing and I’m not going to invest more into it. I am posting this here in case other people have had a similar issue and there is a true fire risk with these units. Thank you.
