The product, in the report: 4 burner range/oven.
I was preparing Xmas dinner and noticed how hot the outside was. Stove was on 350. I used a laser temperature gauge. It read 120-150 degrees. On the top above the digital clock. On the front. All over. I brushed against it accidentally and burned my self. I have kids and family that are here often. Concerned at those temperatures someone will get burned badly.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool oven model WFG320M0MS0 Serial VEC4456521
This is an ongoing problem where the glass oven door gets extremely hot. Hot enough to cause burns if touched. This is extremely unsafe if small children are around. Our 1 year old walked up and was about to touch the glass but we stopped her before she could burn herself. This happens when the oven is on. I have gone through the troubleshooting on the manufacture website an everything is in tact and installed how the manufacture states it should be. The oven door seal is in good condition. The outside glass on the door gets over 160 degrees when the oven is on.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool oven/stovetop in black with silver accents
I recently sustained a minor cut while cleaning my Whirlpool oven (Model #: WFE505W0JS3, Serial #: RB4961994). The cut occurred when my finger slipped on what appeared to be an unexpectedly sharp edge located on the oven vent that is in the gap just under the left side stove top control knobs. Fortunately the wound was minor, but it raised safety concerns regarding the appliance design.

The product, in the report: It is a glass range
We left home on the 4th of July 2025 and came home to a smokey chemical smell. I realized that the oven had ash all over it. I had not used it in 4 days and definitely did not burn anything. It seems that the ovens self clean setting was turned on but no one was home to have turned it on. It burned the silicone burn guard to complete ash. This is a safety hazard. Luckily nothing more happened.

The product, in the report: Smooth Surface Stove
I am reporting a flaw in a whirlpool smooth surface stove which I purchased 09/21/19 from Lowe’s in [REDACTED]. The problem is that the surface buttons do not go off when you turn the burners off. I purchased a part approximately 3 months ago and it only correct one of the large burners. This cost me over one hundred dollars. When looking on google yesterday (5/21/24) I saw that there was a recall on Frigidaire and whirlpool stoves. My model number was not on the list but the problems that they stated about the Whirlpool stoves was the same problem that I am having. In calling customer service about it they told me unless I have an extended they could not do anything for me and that I would have to pay for parts and a technician. I am reporting this because the product need to be included in the recall that was issued 5/16/24. My product model number is WFE505W0HB1 and the serial number is R93529875. Thank you for giving this your attention.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool Oven Model WOS31ES7JS21
The fifth time using a brand new Whirlpool oven ( Model # WOS31ES7JS21), while cooking bacon at 400 degrees, the oven locked shut. Despite shutting off the circuit, the food burned and the kitchen filled with smoke. After 10 -15 minutes the oven was able to be opened. We had a technician come out (not provided by Whirlpool, because they were unable to find a technician in our area). He was unable to replicate issue and indicated it is a known design flaw and is dangerous. However, Whirlpool refused to do anything because he could not replicate the issue at the time.
On Saturday, Oct. 14th, while baking, the oven again locked shut with food cooking in it. Days later, the oven is still locked shut and food is stuck inside.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool built-in oven. Model WOS51EC0HS02.
Door of Whirlpool oven has a manufacturing defect where the glass doesn’t meet the stainless steel plate perfectly on one side, exposing a very sharp edge. My baby was holding onto it while trying to stand up and almost cut the tip of her left pinky finger off.
I just wanted to update my initial report. After a Whirlpool technician examined by oven door, he told me that he’s seen this issue many times before and as far as he knows there is no fix. Even replacement doors come with the same flaw exposing the sharp metal edge. I personally went to my local [REDACTED] to look at the same model on display and it has the same issue.
I just wanted to add an update to this report. Whirlpool offered to buy back this oven after I reported this incident to them. When their contracted delivery company came to pick it up ([REDACTED]), one of their guys also got injured handling this oven. He cut his thumb open after touching the oven door. This item needs to be recalled.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool black 30 inch freestanding flat top range model number WFE320M0JS
I bought a new Whirlpool range (WFE320M0JS) about a month or so ago. I was using the oven and preheating it when there was a loud pop and my oven went dead. It had tripped the breaker. I went to turn the breaker on again and set a new, higher temperature for the oven which it reached within seconds. The range was almost searing hot to the touch near the sides and started smoking from an unknown area so I turned the breaker off again. I had only used the oven once before this point so it wasn’t from any food in the oven and the previous time I used it there had been no smoke. I contacted a repair technician through Whirpool’s website who told me that a control board failed and the heating element was stuck on and heating continuously and it would have been about 30 minutes before it basically melted the oven. It probably would have started a fire if that happened as well. I have barely used this device.

Re: Model # WOC54EC0S00, Serial # 082908249
Dear Customer experience:
Last night, I turned on the broiler of the above Combo Oven/Microwave Oven and put a steak in as I have many times before. After a few minutes, there was a sudden bright flash and sparks started flying from behind the oven door accompanied by billowing smoke. Before I could turn the oven off, the circuit breaker tripped and shut everything down. This was not the kind of flare-up that sometimes occurs when fat splashes onto the broiler element. When the oven cooled and the smoke cleared, I could see that the broiler element itself had partially melted and split as shown in the accompanying photo. This was a catastrophic failure of a relatively new appliance installed by the builder not quite three years ago that should never have happened. There was clearly a serious defect in the broiler element that is dangerous and could have caused serious damage and personal injury. A courtesy repair and testing are in order for this appliance even though the warranty has nominally expired. You should also consider a national recall of this model to check the integrity of the heating elements. I will be reporting this incident to the Consumer Product Safety Commission and other organizations that evaluate consumer products. You may contact me at the indicated address, email [REDACTED] and telephone [REDACTED].
Sincerely, [REDACTED]

The glass door on my Whirlpool stove fell off. As result of this of defect, I experienced third degree burns on both my arm and hand.
In addition, to the door falling off and causing horrific injuries, some of the burners will not light without being ignited, thusly potentially causing additional future injuries.
This Whirlpool stove is unsafe and should be recalled to prevent other injuries from consumers who have this same stove.
Please find substantiating picture evidence attached.
I am requesting a replacement stove be delivered to me expeditiously, as well compensation for my injuries.

Whirlpool Range WEG750H0HV. This range has a design flaw with the burner knobs that when lightly bumped or brushed against will open the gas. We have had this range for approx. 18 months and have had this happen at least half a dozen times. This last time yesterday I simply took a towel off the handle bar but was unaware that it brushed a knob. It filled our entire first floor with gas before we entered the room again later. This is a serious issue especially if there are young children around. The igniter does not sound when this happens so there’s no way of knowing until you smell the rotten egg smell.

The consumer indicates that the front edge of his cooktop gets really hot to the touch when the oven is turned on. The consumer notes that this issue does not happen when the cooktop portion of her oven range is on.
The consumer contacted the Manufacturer and explained the situation; the representative he spoke to scheduled for a Service Technician to inspect the unit.
03/08/2021 – The Service Technician informed the consumer that if the edges of his cooktop are 170 degrees Fahrenheit then it is within normal range however when he inspected the unit it measured 190 degrees Fahrenheit. The Technician informed the consumer that there was nothing he could and left. The consumer notes that he had also tested the unit and got the same reading as the Service Technician.
The consumer’s wife contacted the manufacturer and was informed that they cannot assist them as they go by what the Technician says.
The consumer states that the oven is used at least once daily whereas the cooktop is used multiple times per day.
The consumer plans on returning the unit to the retailer.

On 1-17-2021 I was using the standard self cleaning setting on the top oven (racks removed) when with 20min left in the cycle, the middle glass panel on the door shattered & shot hot glass shards into the kitchen. I reached out to Whirlpool & was told the equipment is out of warranty & no costs would be covered and no further investigation would take place. I believe this event is due to equipment defect due to: (1). This was the first time the cleaning cycle had been performed & manufacturer instructions were followed.
(2). The internal and external glass was unaffected.
(3). Based on online research this does not appear to be an isolated incident.
(4). The oven was purchased as a part of a new home build in July 2017 with no prior incidents.

I have a 1 year old Whirlpool double oven installed by my builder. In the past year I have experienced several instances where the oven would not turn off. On a few instances, the oven would turn off, only to turn itself back on a few minutes later. The most recent incident was today, 10/22/20. I used both ovens and neither will turn off. We will have to resort to flipping the circuit breaker to turn the ovens off as it has been over 2 hours with the ovens running. I was using the ovens as intended, to cook food. I contacted my neighbors with the same ovens and they also have the same issues. I have also been informed by a neighbor that their oven has turned itself on during the day when no one was home. I have received the same response from 7 neighbors. This is an extreme fire hazard and I strongly believe these ovens should be recalled immediately.

Hurt, care not known Made Apr 28, 2020, sent to the company May 15, 2020, published by CPSC Jun 1, 2020
The product, in the report: 4 burner gas rage with oven
The consumer got the range from his landlord and was told that it was not second hand.
At some point, the consumer began to notice that he could be eating supper and noticed his eyes were burning. His wife also experienced a burning in her eyes. Initially, they were not aware of what was causing the problem.
2020: The consumer noticed that there was a gas leak from the range. At one point, the oven stopped coming on, when it was turned on. The consumer identified that gas was being emitted from the oven, but there was no mechanism on the range/oven to indicate that there was a problem.
The oven emitted gas and nothing was shutting it off. There was no correlation between the oven being cold and the oven’s temperature.
The consumer called the mfr. and was directed to their Repair Department. The consumer asked the Repair Manager ([REDACTED]), “Do they have separate lines for the oven and range burners or do they have a manifold?” The manager said that they have a manifold.
He then asked [REDACTED] if there was a gas solenoid (manual valve) to address this issue. [REDACTED] said no, there was a disc in the unit for this problem. Initially, the consumer said he wanted them to come and look at it, but changed his mind.
The consumer has contacted the firm several times and wanted to speak with someone who can speak about the design details of this range.
The top burner of the range has a screw valve. The pilot of that valve doesn’t work very well. The consumer has experienced incidents of turning the valve on, but the burner did not light.
The gas in the burner is at a large diameter instead of a central group orifices. He burned the hair on his arm on one occasion.
Gas flame flares, “licks & spits.” The consumer has discontinued use of the oven.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool Range Model WEE750H0HW
My hopes are that Whirlpool will find a solution to make my new range usable. Given the overheating issue I am having seems like a safety concern. The front two burners, set on “single”, and turned as low as they will go, boils anything placed on them. I have no way to simmer a dish, and instead, gravies are ruined, rice is scorched, singed meats are common and cream sauces are breaking. Yesterday, I left the stove for a few minutes, and came back to smoke rising from the pan and charred sausage links. I also have a couple different brands of pans, and they both result in boiling/burning contents.
In calling Whirlpool customer service, the first rep I spoke with suggested that I don’t use the front burners, and only cook on the back teeny ones. That’s an unacceptable resolution, in my opinion. And, the back right small burner will boil things as well. A technician was sent out, and the 8-10 second cycling works as intended. However, I asked the tech how hot was that single/low burner was getting. The answer, 230 degrees, which is above the boiling point! He explained that Whirlpool does not have guidelines on the temperature of the burner, only the cycling. I’m confused by why the temperature of the burner is not a fact that is taken in to consideration.
My next call back to Whirlpool resulted in a second technician coming out. I relayed my complete confidence in the first fellow, and felt the 8-10 second cycling would be found by subsequent techs. That was the case. I was told to call the customer resolution specialist after that visit, and unfortunately, he said his hands were tied and there is nothing that can be done. He said the only hope was for a recall of this model. That stance is deplorable!
In trying to find a solution, I asked if I could put down a silicone mat on the surface, to try and make the burners usable. It was suggested that I call the parts department to get that answer, which was “no”, there’s no parts like that to make the burners cooler. No other solution was given. I also have a couple different brands of pans, and they both result in boiling contents, so swapping out cookware is not an answer.
Whirlpool has always been our go-to for appliances, as we’ve had reliable units, and bought them with confidence, given the name. But now, I am expected to only use the two, small back burners of a very expensive range? Cooking is a hobby for me, but now all I feel is angst when I walk in to the kitchen, and my culinary passion has been squelched.
I’m also very concerned this could be a fire danger and do not feel safe having the unit in my kitchen, in it’s overheating mode. I am asking that Whirlpool re-calibrate the burner heat, or supply me with a method of lowering the temp. If those options are not possible, I would like Whirlpool to swap the unit with one that can be used in a normal operating manner or else remove the range and refund my purchase price.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool 30” Cook top Model Number: W3CG3014XB black Here is there 3rd & final response: We appreciate and value our customers’ opinions on our products. Whirlpool strives to achieve customer satisfaction and to meet the needs of our customers. Your concern will be documented. We apologize that we have not been able to fully meet your needs at this time, and appreciate you bringing this to our attention
Whirlpool cooktop (30”) grates are very slippery. When you wash the cooktop they slide off their places VERY easily and worse yet when cooking any pot or fry pan the pan slides all over the place leaving it VERY easy for a pot of hot grease or boiling water or any food in them to slide right off the cooktop. This is SOOO Dangerous. Not sure how this product passed any test in the US or any other country. It’s ridiculously unsafe. WOW. [REDACTED] Ord # [REDACTED] Manards 10/20/19 Purchased, cooktop installed by [REDACTED]. The grates slip around even when I just wipe off the cooktop at the edges and around the knobs if you just bump them with your hand or the rag. It is level! The Grates can slip off at any time & burn someone or brake someone’s toe. They slip off with NO effort - just wiping a finger to get a few crumbs off they grates move forward and backward right off the cooktop. I can’t even believe this past a test to be safe on the marketplace to sell

The product, in the report: Oven Range
The consumer indicates that the knobs to his oven range are very sensitive as even brushing against them will ignite the burners, or unknowingly emit gas from them. Numerous times the consumer and his family have been alerted of this by the smell of the gas, the flames, or the clicking of the knobs when it emits gas without igniting.
The consumer contacted the Manufacturer and explained the situation; the representative he spoke to informed him that they could send a Service Technician to inspect the unit to see if there is a defect however when the consumer stressed the issue, the representative told him that the Manufacturer is the party that determines if the issue he is reporting is a safety concern or not. The consumer declined the service as it would cost him since the Technician would state that the unit works.
The consumer states that the cooktop is used five to seven times per week whereas the oven is used three to four times weekly.
The consumer plans on keeping his oven range for at least the next thirty days.

I have a whirlpool stove with an electronic control panel that is flat by the surface. So is accessible to animals & children.
the controls can be turned on by my cat walking on it or a child touching the control panel.
It does have a lock but it is the same as the controls. the cat just stepped on it and turned the control lock off.
the lock can not be activated until all the surfaces are no longer hot. So it remains active for quite some time after you use it.l
Sometimes the lock does not work. Probably because I am constantly using it. When I shut the braker off it does reset.
So I have to continually turn the baker off when I leave the room our go out of the house.
Imagine my surprise the first I walked into the kitchen and the burner was glowing.
I have contacted the manufacturer when I first brought it home and again recently when the lock was not working. They said both times pretty much TOUGH LUCK. said I should have researched the stove before I bought it. Suggested I call the appliance store. Of course they also said sorry no returns.
You would have thought the salesman would have brought it to the attention of anyone who was interested in purchasing it that it might be a problem if you have kids or animals.
I spent a lot of money on the stove.

The product, in the report: Whirpool glass top stove model: WEE510s0Fs2
My apartment has a whirlpool glass top stove, and it caught on fire in June. The apartment was built between 2018-2019. My unit was ready and brand new in April, so I have no idea when the apartment complex bought the stoves. I left my apartment for an errand that took 30 minutes and came back to a smoky apartment. I had a pizza box on the stove, and never used the stove or oven that weekend, so I know I didn’t leave anything on. The glass top was destroyed, as well as the microwave above the stove and cabinets. The fire was out by the time I returned home, and the pizza box was burned to ashes. I had to have half the kitchen replaced. Luckily I was not harmed nor were my pets. I do have trauma from the event, as it was scary walking into what could have been a disaster.

The submitter is reporting the unit for posing an injury hazard.
The submitter’s wife turned on the lower oven to preheat at 425 degrees and about 17 minutes later she placed the food inside. Approximately 20 minutes later, the inner glass shattered to pieces and pieces of glass came out from the oven, with multiple pieces of tempered glass hitting the submitter’s wife on the leg. She was about 5 feet away from the unit. The submitter’s wife had pants on and did not sustain injuries. The submitter indicated that there is an opening near the bottom of the oven and he believes that’s were some glass came out from.
The submitter indicated that the oven has three layers of glass, the outer, middle and inner glass. The outer and middle glass is still intact.
The submitter contacted the retailer and reported the incident. He was told that he has an extended warranty and he could obtain repairs free of charge. He was also advised to contact the firm, which he did. The retailer scheduled a repair with WFCC Dan Marc Factory Certified. However, he doesn’t feel safe repairing the unit and fears the upper oven may have a similar incident. He said he may contact the firm and request a replacement unit.

The consumer indicates that her husband was boiling water on one side of the oven range and on the other side, he was cooking tomato paste. The consumer’s husband placed his right hand on the middle portion of the oven range but had to immediately remove it because the unit was extremely hot; the consumer’s husband burned his hand.
The consumer contacted the Manufacturer and explained the situation; the representative she spoke with scheduled for a Service Technician to inspect her unit.
The Service Technician inspected the oven range and informed the consumer that there is nothing that can be done as the problem is a manufacturer’s defect; the third-party company has reached out to the Manufacturer letting them know of the issue as they have had the same problem with many of their units.
The consumer indicates that when the oven is turned on, it emits a burning plastic smell; the Service Technician advised the consumer to open the windows as the smell would eventually subside.
The consumer states that the cooktop is used daily approximately three to four times whereas the oven is used twice a week, on average. The consumer has had oven ranges with this same feature but she has never had the middle portion of the oven range get so hot.
The consumer plans on keeping her oven range for at least the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

We have a Whirlpool oven which is about 18 years old. A screw holding the door together had come out from the top. We could not find it so we took the other top screw out to see if it was inside the door. When we separated the door to look in, the front of the door literally exploded. Fragments of glass were all over our kitchen, and the entire front of the door had disintegrated. We had not realized that this panel was all tempered glass. Fortunately we were not injured but it did take a few hours to clean up.
Our concern is that if there had been children nearby they could have been seriously hurt. We might have been as well if we had exposed skin below the stove level. ( Apparently the glass all went down.) I must emphasize that this happened in about one second and we were left with just the handle in our hands.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool oven----non self cleaning
Whirlpool oven,( modern ovens made in the last few years) are off gassing highly toxic gasses in the home. This is a known issue by whirlpool and they are trying very hard to keep it quiet. They readily admit that it is a problem with the lubricant used in manufacturing of their ovens. They state “you must open all windows and run fans to air out the house for the “first few uses”
They will not get any more specific than that as to how to render their products safe for the home.
This gas is causing almost instant death of every small animal in the home and in humans causes a caustic burning of the lungs.....small children and those with breathing issue are in danger of rapid death.
This tragedy struck my family on May 18, 2018 for further information on this please check my BBB complaint # [REDACTED]. They did respond but offered no solution. When I told them of the deaths they have caused I asked them “Why don’t you render your products safe at the factory in stead of letting them off gas in our homes” Their exact quoted response was “That would not be practical for us, we produce too many ovens”
That is all detailed in the BBB complaint.

The product, in the report: Whirlpool double wall oven Model Number: WOD51EC0AS02
I have owned a Whirlpool double oven since February 2015. Model Number: WOD51EC0AS02 I followed all instructions provided in the manual for use and care. I ran the self cleaning option on the top oven for the first time and followed all instructions. The cleaning takes approximately 4 hours. About 2 hours into the cleaning, the inner glass of the oven shattered and glass went everywhere (floor, counter top, bottom oven). The self cleaning did not stop on its own. I stopped the cleaning and cleaned up all the glass. If I would have been standing near the oven, I would definitely been injured. If I had not heard the noise, the cleaning would have continued and possibly started a fire. I contacted Whirlpool and their response was that I needed to pay for the repair. Here is the comment from the representative: “Although our appliances are manufactured under strict quality guidelines, occasionally an appliance will not operate as expected, failures can occur, or components may deteriorate. We cannot explain what factors may have contributed to the premature malfunctioning or to the deterioration of the parts in your unit. We do value our customers and we provide a very robust warranty for our quality products but out side the warranty it is the consumers responsibility to provide for the maintenance and repairs of any appliance either by paying out of pocket or by maintaining a service plan on the appliances.”

Seems this is a poor design. Now have put poker chips behind knobs so have to remove to push in and turn to use stove. Whirlpool is sending a repairman to see if in proper workhorses. Just poor design. Front handle does not protect from pushing in knobs and turning on gas if someone leans against stove. We looked into the kitchen, and the cooktop was on fire under the control knobs. The flame was approximately 6-8” in height. Luckily we were home when this occurred or the home would have likely burned down. The appliance was purchased in late 2008, and professionally installed in early January 2009, cleaned after each use. I unplugged the electrical cord and the flame got much less, then I put the fire out.

Small little shards fell through the bottom of the oven. The oven was in perfect condition and I am puzzled as to why it just shattered.

Emergency room Made Jan 9, 2017, sent to the company Jan 18, 2017, published by CPSC Feb 2, 2017
The product, in the report: Wall mounted oven installed below our cooktop. It was installed in our newly constructed home when we purchased the home from Bowen and Bowen Builders in June 2015.
We have a new home with a Whirlpool oven model # WOS51EC0AS02 installed within the cabinetry. On December 27, 2016 my daughter was walking past the oven and slid into the corner of the oven on the lower right side. The corners of the oven door and the vent deflector below the oven door are both EXTREMELY sharp stainless steel. As such, my daughter sustained a serious laceration on her left heel that required an Emergency Room visit and 18 stitches.
Since the incident, I have inspected several neighbors/friends ovens only to discover how unusually sharp ours is. This model of oven poses a significant safety hazard to adults, children and pets.
I have reached out to Whirlpool and they have scheduled an inspection of the oven. However, since this poses, in my opinion, such a real and significant safety concern, I felt it was best to inform this commission.

I was putting my kitchen towel on the over door and my pinky finger went into the oven vent. This has happened before but this time it nearly ripped the tip of my finger off. While bleeding profusely I rushed to our local urgent care and had to get 6 stitches in my finger and get a tetanus shot. My fear is this is happening to others, and I especially fear children being around this stove.

The product, in the report: double oven
The oven was installed in the home, while it was being built, but it had never been used.
The consumer was home the day before the incident and attempted to set the clock, but it did not keep the correct time. When he came into house the next day, he discovered soot all over the house. There was substantially more soot in the kitchen area. The cabinet around the oven was partly burned and partly charred. It cost $8000.00+ to repair the damage to the cabinets, because they had to be stripped down and redone.
The problem occurred near the controller, which is located on the upper oven. This caused the burning to cabinets and the soot damage to the home.
Initially, the consumer contacted the dealer, but he got the run-around for approximately 2 weeks. He was referred to different stores and different phone numbers, but no resolution was offered.
The consumer submitted a builder’s risk insurance claim, because the home was still under construction. A repairman came out and investigated the damage and determined that he oven was not repairable. He wrote a report and gave the consumer an estimate of the cost. The consumer then hired someone to do the repairs.
The consumer contacted the manufacturer and they sent their own technician to examine the oven. The technician came up with the same conclusion.
The builder’s risk insurance paid a portion of the damage cost (approx. $4900.00). The consumer purchased a different manufacturer’s double oven.
The consumer claims that a manufacturer’s rep. told him that they would reimburse him for the cost of their oven (approx. $2700.00). The consumer never received the payment for the oven. He has received a check toward the damages ($2002.00+) from the mfr.
10/17/2016: The consumer was told by a manufacturer’s rep. (name & number unavailable) that they would have to come out and pick up the old oven and the people who picked up the oven, would give him a check for the oven.
10/17/2016: The consumer contacted the company that is supposed to pick up the oven and their rep. (name & number unavailable) told him that they did not have a check for him.
His lending company provided a construction loan. This process is being dragged out and the incident caused by this oven may be a contributing factor.

I took photographs of the problem, Called Whirlpool and of course they had nothing to do with the issue, and tried to sell me an extended warranty. The stove is only three years old.

I have a whirlpool wall oven that is only 1 1/2 years old. I was preheating the oven to 425 degrees when I heard a loud sound and what sounded like skittles spilling on the floor. I came back into the kitchen and there was hot glass all over the floor. The oven door glass had exploded. The glass was hot with some sharp pieces. We have never hit the oven glass, dropped anything on it or set anything on it to otherwise weaken it. I am sure there was some sort of manufacturer defect that weakened the glass. I am glad that my children were not in the room because the glass was extremely hot.

Re: Whirlpool Stove installed WITHOUT Anti-tip bracket
Dear Sir/Madam:
My wife and I purchased three Whirlpool appliances, including a Whirlpool stove from the Lowe’s store in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida in April 2013. These appliances were purchased to replace older appliances in a beachfront condominium we recently purchased. All items were delivered for installation on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at Condominium in Fort Walton Beach.
THE NEW STOVE WAS INSTALLED BY LOWE’S EMPLOYEES WITHOUT THE REQUIRED ANTI-TIP BRACKET. When they arrived and removed the old stove, a horizontal anti-tip bracket was already in place, bolted to the floor. The new Whirlpool stove came equipped with an L-shaped bracket and several warnings, which taken individually or in total, warned that the stove should never be installed without the anti tip bracket. Notwithstanding these warnings and the actual bracket being shipped with the stove, these employees proceeded to simply slide the stove into the opening without installing the new anti-tip bracket. After their installation, I could easily pull the stove over. When I told them that I wanted the anti-tip bracket installed, they told me that they had neither the training nor the tools to do it. I was shocked because I am sure both Lowe’s and Whirlpool know the dangers of installing stoves without the anti-tip bracket. This is a crucial safety device. Hundreds of children and elderly have suffered serious to fatal bums and crush injuries when stoves have been accidentally tipped over. This has been a well-known hazard in the industry for many years.
After the employees left, I had another individual actually install the bracket. I also called the Fort Walton store and spoke to an employee whose name was given to me by the deliverymen. When I told him what had happened, he stated that he was “surprised” and that his men did have the training and know-how to install the bracket. I am very skeptical of his response, especially since I was told by the deliverymen that I was only the second person in the last year to ask for the bracket’s installation. To compound this irresponsible behavior, I was asked to sign a delivery form essentially stating that either the bracket had been installed or that I did not want it installed. While I refused to check either of the boxes, I am convinced that many other families have been put at risk when stoves are installed without these anti-tip brackets.
Both Lowe’s and Whirlpool have superior knowledge of the need for these brackets and the dangerous consequences if they are not installed. Both companies should immediately institute practices to insure that anti-tip brackets are installed each time a new stove is delivered.
I expect this letter to be placed in the proper file or files which may be subject to formal discovery in any existing or future lawsuits involving this safety issue.

The product, in the report: Kitcheaid Oven
Consumer had the oven was installed in 07/12. After months without incident the oven was on self clean cycle for about 2 hours. Consumer heard an exploding sound from her kitchen; then she noticed the entire inner glass window shattered from the oven and the house filled with smoke. Consumer turned off the oven’s self cycle by using the control buttons.
Consumer spoke with Kitchenaid Supervisor [REDACTED], who stated that this has happened to other people.
Consumer has had 3 service calls, but the technicians have not completed the repair. The next scheduled visit is 1/12/13.
Consumer also spoke with Safety Officer [REDACTED] with Kitchenaid [REDACTED] “who said when the glass is stressed it can shatter” and “we don’t recommend that customers have small children stand in front of the oven when using self clean feature.”
Consumer was instructed from a contracting repairman not to use self clean mode and just clean with soap and water.
There is no property damage beyond the oven.
The consumer’s husband suffers from Cornial Abrasion; which was aggravated from the smoke. He used over the counter eye drops to cure the irritation from smoke.

The product, in the report: Regular range/oven with 4 stove top burners. Color almond. Oven had black glass front.
I am reporting this for my 87 year old father who is a disabled (wheelchair bound) WWII Vet. He had a Whirlpool range in his house, which he had for years. One evening recently he was using one of the burners on the top of the stove on a medium temperature. As he was approaching the range, in his wheelchair, to check on the food he was cooking. The glass front on the oven door exploded. Glass was strewn everywhere! Thank God he was not hurt. Since the oven door was close to his eye level in his wheelchair, we are thankful that he was not blinded!!! He was shaken up. He called the Fire Dept. since he was home alone. They made sure he was okay and cleaned up the glass for him.

The product, in the report: Range
Text of consumer’s complaint:
I would appreciate you checking into this safety issue. The front placed ignition knobs turn to the on position with the slightest touch and expel natural gas! This is a dangerous situation that could cause an explosion and fatality! Our co-operative living complex purchased over 300 ranges one year ago. Many residents and the management of Bretton Village Co-Operative home contacted Whirlpool to no avail regarding this safety issue!
CONSUMER ADDED: “Service Person” sent to my home from Whirlpool told my husband and I that “All Gas ranges are made the same way.” “Go buy some plastic covers and put them on the knobs” Not the solution!
