The product, in the report: LG Natural Gas Range

Inside oven door on LG Thin Q Natural Gas Oven, LSGL6335*, shattered during oven’s high temperature self-clean function. No one was injured. LG shipped a replacement oven glass promptly and a technician installed it. The service from LG was not covered under their warranty as the oven was about 2.25 years old. The shattering happened the first time we ran the self-clean function. LG charged me $369 for the repair.

The product, in the report: LG 6.3 cu. ft. GAS Single Smart Oven Range ProBake Convection and Premium Handle

I am reporting a potential product safety defect involving my LG gas range, model LSGL6335X, purchased new from Costco and delivered on April 9, 2026.

I discovered numerous small, bright blue, glass-like flakes and particles scattered throughout the interior of the oven and on cookware that had been stored inside. When I wiped my hand along the bottom of the oven, additional blue particles transferred onto my skin and damp paper towel. I wiped down the entire oven each day after that and continued to see additional pieces, suggesting this is not just leftover loose manufacturing material. The particles appear consistent with the blue porcelain-enamel coating used inside LG ovens, although their exact composition and source have not been confirmed.

There are no obvious visible chips or areas of damage inside the oven which is more concerning as it could have gone unnoticed for some time. The appliance is approximately six months old, has been used for normal household cooking, and has never undergone a self-cleaning cycle.

My primary concern is that these particles could contaminate food during cooking and potentially be ingested. If the particles are fragments of porcelain enamel, they may present a physical hazard, particularly since they have sharp edges. I am concerned about the safety of preparing food in an oven that may be shedding material from its interior coating. No official injuries have occurred, however, my young son has been out of school three days this week with stomach cramps and I am beginning to worry.

I contacted LG to report the problem and request warranty service. LG classified the issue as cosmetic damage and informed me that I would be responsible for paying for a technician to repair the appliance. They never asked to see photos. I disputed this classification because the concern involves loose or chipping particles inside the cooking cavity, not merely the ovens appearance. My complaint has been escalated to a higher-level representative, and I am awaiting a response.

I have also found similar consumer reports involving blue enamel particles in other LG ovens, suggesting this may not be an isolated occurrence. I understand that the cause and extent of these reports have not been independently established.

I am requesting that the Consumer Product Safety Commission review this potential safety hazard and determine whether further investigation is warranted. I have photographs documenting the blue particles, Ive saved some of the flakes in plastic bags, and can provide the LG service case number upon request.

The product, in the report: LG Gas Stove

LG Stove Model: LSGL5833F Serial: 410MMVV0R207 was cooking on sunday and CO alarm went off, opened the house got the one we have on a different level and brought it to where the stove is and that one also started going off. Had a pipefitter test it with his combustion analizer and it was reading between 300-4000 ppm, this happens in low and high flame. I got a carbon menoxide detector for home use that will read low levels of CO and that one was alarming right away. I have called LG but they could take up to 24-48 hours to get back with me.

Since submitting the report, a licensed pipefitter tested the operating burners using an [REDACTED]combustion analyzer. The supplied videos clearly document readings on the analyzer’s “CO 0% O2” display of approximately 47, 82, 462, 500, 609, and 773 ppm during separate tests. A separate direct-reading CO meter held near an operating burner visibly increased from 0 to 198 ppm. The household carbon-monoxide alarms had previously activated while the range was being used. LG has instructed me to discontinue using the appliance and opened escalation case [REDACTED]. The range remains off.

The product, in the report: LG Smart Gas Freestanding Range with easy clean, Stainless-Steel finish 30’-inch width.

Since March, my LG oven has had serious safety problems. The first issue happened inside the oven when a fire started while the oven was in use. A technician came to my home and repaired it.

About 90 days later, we started smelling gas coming from the oven even when it was turned off. The gas smell was strong enough that the gas company came to my home, inspected the appliance, and placed a warning tag stating that the oven was unsafe.

We contacted LG customer service many times, and they opened a case. However, the technician appointments were cancelled four or five times without explanation just they said place where we live out or far. This left us with an unsafe gas leak and no repair. We are very concerned about the risk of fire, explosion, or health danger from the gas leak.

The product, in the report: LG LGRL5823S Freestanding 30” Gas Range

I turned the self clean cycle on my 18 month old LG Propane Oven yesterday, model LRGL5823S. An hour into the cycle, I heard a loud explosion of glass. I was in the kitchen, but thankfully not right by the oven, because glass was at least a foot around the perimeter, most of the glass pouring and popping out of the bottom of the door. The inner glass of the door had exploded. There was a mat in front of the oven, and the glass coming out actually melted the mat. I immediately reached over and turned the oven off. For an hour after that, as the oven cooled, more glass just kept breaking and falling out of the bottom of the door. I reached out to customer service and was gifted a 25% coupon code.

LG gas model # LRGN6325X. This gas range was purchased and installed on 10/23/25 by a licensed plumber. The inner glass on the door shattered inside the oven when I was using the self clean feature for the first time. I set the time for a 3 hour cleaning. I did not hear the glass shatter I just happen to go in the kitchen and look in the door and notice that it had shattered. I noticed this within the first hour of the cleaning. I had used the oven an hour before cleaning and it had been turned off and cool.

I am reporting since I was listening on the radio about similar cases being reported. My LG oven was cooling down from being used at 400 degrees for about 30 minutes. The oven was about 1.5 years old when incident occurred. It had been off for about 30 minutes. The middle glass door panel popped and shattered randomly without any hits to the door/door being moved. No injuries occurred but it threw broken glass all over the floor.

The product, in the report: LG 6.9 cu. ft. Gas Double Oven Range with ProBake Convection in Stainless Steel. Model #LDG4313ST / 00 Internet/Catalog # 206290120 Product Code: FB4753LS.ASTELGA Serial # 608KMQG06732 Manufactured: August 2016

I am submitting a safety complaint regarding an LG gas double oven purchased new from Home Depot at the end of 2016 (Model: LDG4313ST). Over the life of this appliance, our household has experienced multiple safety-related failures involving both gas operation and electrical components.

Historically, the unit exhibited abnormal flame behavior in the lower oven (Flames Shooting-Out of the Oven), requiring service intervention. We later experienced electrical faults in the upper oven, including shorting, repeated breaker trips, and damage to the wall outlet that required replacement by an electrician. The upper oven subsequently failed, and the unit began exhibiting cross-impact issues between the two ovens. Most recently, on December 24 of this year, the lower oven failed completely. LG-authorized service diagnosed the root cause as failure of the main control board (motherboard). LG supplied a replacement control board that did not physically match the original configuration and did not support all required wiring connectors. The technician contacted LG for guidance and WAS INSTRUCTED BY LG THAT UNMATCHED ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS COULD BE LEFT UNCONNECTED.

GIVEN THAT THIS IS A GAS APPLIANCE WITH A DOCUMENTED HISTORY OF ELECTRICAL FAULTS AND ABNORMAL FLAME BEHAVIOR, guidance to leave electrical connectors unused raises SERIOUS CONCERNS ABOUT A FIRE RISK AND FAMILY SAFETY CONCERNS. At present, we do not feel it is safe to operate this appliance in our home. The unit remains unusable, and our household has incurred ongoing disruption and expense while awaiting a safe resolution.

    Historical Issues Experienced:

    - At one point, the bottom oven was shooting visible flames beyond normal operation. LG Support sent a technician and the issue was addressed. - We later experienced electrical failures with the top oven, including shorting out, tripping breakers, and causing a failure at the wall outlet, which required an electrician to replace the outlet due to damage. - Subsequently, the top oven stopped functioning altogether and began causing interference and operational issues with the bottom oven. - On Christmas Eve of this year, the bottom oven failed completely, leaving our household without a working oven during the holidays.

Some earlier service records are no longer available due to the age of the appliance; however, LG should have internal records tied to the model and serial number. Regardless, the current safety concern exists independent of historical documentation.

I am requesting that the CPSC please log and review this complaint due to the potential fire and electrical hazard associated with this product and the repair guidance provided.

I am reporting a serious carbon monoxide hazard involving a newly manufactured LG slide-in gas range. During normal operation, the appliance emitted carbon monoxide levels exceeding 500 parts per million, as measured by our gas utility. The unit was immediately red-tagged and deemed unsafe for use. This appliance was manufactured in October 2025 and installed in a residential kitchen on December 7th 2025. The elevated CO levels indicate severe incomplete combustion and pose a life-threatening risk to occupants. The appliance has not been used since being red-tagged. Documentation from the gas utility, model and serial numbers, and photographs are available. Given the severity of the CO readings and the fact that this is a new appliance, I believe this represents a significant product safety defect that warrants investigation.

UPDATED ON 2/9/2026: [We experienced abnormal operation of a newly purchased LG gas range, including extreme and variable oven temperature deviations of approximately ±100°F during normal use. After reporting these issues and requesting service, two separate LG representatives advised us to continue using the appliance despite the reported temperature instability.

Prior to any formal carbon monoxide testing or utility red-tagging, a household member experienced acute symptoms and required emergency room evaluation. Subsequent investigation revealed dangerous carbon monoxide emissions from the range, and TECO (People’s Gas) later red-tagged the appliance as unsafe for use, after which the appliance was removed from service.

Damages to property: There is no structural damage to the home. However, the appliance was rendered unsafe for use, resulting in loss of use of the kitchen and interruption of normal household activities and a home-based cottage food business operation.

Status of the oven/range: The LG gas range has been removed from service and relocated to the garage, where it is preserved in its current condition. A replacement range has been purchased to restore kitchen functionality and resume business operations.]

I am reporting a gas safety hazard involving an LG gas range, model LSGL6335D.BBDELGA. The stove was being used normally for household cooking. I discovered that gas was leaking from the knob area and the burner area even when all knobs were in the OFF position.

I confirmed the leak using a gas leak detector, which repeatedly alarmed in the areas around the knobs and burners. This indicates gas escaping from the valve or control assembly. No one was injured, but this posed a serious risk of fire, explosion, or carbon monoxide exposure.

After confirming the leak, I immediately shut off the gas supply to the appliance. LG customer support refused to treat this as a safety issue and only offered a paid flat-rate repair, even though the product is unsafe to operate. I am reporting this because this failure is dangerous and could seriously harm consumers.

I am writing to formally dispute the closure of my service case and request further review of a serious safety and product defect issue involving my LG oven.

Recently while using my oven, I began experiencing problems with the oven racks. They frequently slip off the grooved ledges, become wedged, and in some cases, fall to the bottom of the ovenposing a clear burn and injury hazard when handling hot food or cookware.

I contacted LG to report the issue, emphasizing the safety concern. LG promptly sent replacement racks, which I installed, but the problem persisted. Even with minimal pressure, the racks still fall out of position. I called again, and a technician was sent on October 7, 2025. My husband, [REDACTED], was present during the visit and demonstrated how the racks fall off the grooves. His comment was .Dont use the center of the oven, just use the top and bottom.

Following that appointment, I corresponded with another repair professional who reviewed the situation and concluded that the problem is not with the racks themselves, but with the oven cavity. According to this technician, the outer walls of the oven have expanded outward, causing the interior cavity to bow. This structural defect leaves approximately a -inch gap on each side in the middle sectionallowing the racks to slip out of place. (Photographs will be provided.)

Despite this, LGs Presidential Liaison Team (Case #[REDACTED] and Case #[REDACTED]) informed me that no manufacturer defect was found and closed my case. The response incorrectly attributed the issue to installation error and sent yet another identical set of racks, even though LGs own records confirm I had already received upgraded replacement racks. ( I don’t know what upgraded means because they are all identical to the original racks at purchase.)

I have requested that LG open a new case based on the oven cavity defect, not the racks, but was told the matter is closed. I have all text documentation confirming these exchanges.

For comparison, I have tested several other ovens belonging to friends and family and have been unable to reproduce this issue with any of them, regardless of pressure applied to the racks. This reinforces that the problem is unique to my unit and not a matter of misuse or installation.

This is a serious safety concern. A heavy dish or large turkey falling from a collapsing rack could cause severe burns or injuries. I have already experienced minor burns while maneuvering the racks due to how easily they dislodge.

Some technicians were working in the home and one of them accidentally bumped the range control knobs, which caused it to turn on. The workers had some items on top of the range, which burned due to this issue. The technicians were able to extinguish the fire without any injuries. The technicians also agreed to replace the range-top and they did. The consumer, her husband, and their renter, all bumped the range knobs at different times and accidentally turned it on. Each time, they caught the issue before any property damage occurred. 5/26/2025: The consumer called the manufacturer and spoke to different representatives. Who happened to be the same person but used a different name each time. She asked for a refund. The manufacturer offered her a 15% discount on the purchase of a new range. The consumer said she should not have to purchase a new range at her expense. She also said that people cannot be expected to lock their range after each use and that children could be in heightened damage because of this issue. NOTE: The range was purchased 11/1/2023, delivered to the home in 3/2024 and used a few months later. When the phone representative informed her that the range was out of warranty, the consumer noted that the service person said it was still in warranty.

Warranty shouldn’t have anything to do with a defective/hazard stove. Note: the customer service person on the phone called me a racist. [REDACTED] was his name. On previous calls he used the name [REDACTED] also

Recall on LG slide and ranges with front mount knobs. Model number LSEL6331F Unintentional contact with turn burners. (Using a microwave above, body will have contact with knobs and burners will turn on.) Purchased four LG appliances for a new house build. Having problems with the LG 30 inch, 6.3 cu.foot single oven slide in electric range.

Purchased during the Thanksgiving day sale 2023. Had it delivered in March 2024. Had it installed either in July/August 2024. The contractors, while working by the stove, unintentionally bumped the knobs and turned the stove on. They did not realize it until smell of smoke was in the house. The damage was so bad that a new top had to be replaced. The contractors paid for that.

The new build is for a rental. The renter moved in middle of September. Along the way the same thing happened to the renter and also to my husband and myself. Decided to do some research on the stove and found out that problem happened to a lot of other owners. There is also a recall on this model.

I called LG customer relations at 800-243-0000. Talked to someone there and they told me that [REDACTED] would call and make an appointment for service. Appointment was made, but nobody showed up the first time. Wasted a whole day waiting for them. Finally showed up on the second request. All he did was show us where the lock button was on the stove. Told him I wasn’t happy with just having a lock button. I cannot guarantee that renters will be using the lock button after every time they use the stove. It is a fire hazard and I do not want it in there. He told me to call the 800-243-000. So I called and it sounded like I was talking to the same person I had talked to before. I asked him what his name was, but I couldn’t quite understand what he was saying. So I asked him to spell his name. I heard computer clicking and he didn’t answer me for about 10 seconds. I said, don’t you know how to spell your name? So then he spelled out his name, which was [REDACTED]. Went through the whole spiel again and how dangerous that stove is and I didn’t want it in my rental house. He said someone would contact me.

On &-22-2025 had to call again since I did not receive a call. This person sounded just like the same person I had talked to previously. But this time his name was [REDACTED]. I asked if there was an [REDACTED] in the company because she had created the repair appointment. He put me on hold and came back and said there was an [REDACTED] who was the [REDACTED]. I requested that she gave me a call back, and did not want to communicate through text. He said he would relay the message.

Did not receive a call so on 8/26/2025 I called again. So again the person I was talking to sounded like the same person I had talked to before but this time his name was [REDACTED]. Our conversation lasted for 29 minutes. The first 21 minutes we were going back and forth. Him on how the stove was out of warranty. I was saying the warranty should be of no concern because the stove is a fire hazard. Even though the repair rep said the stove was still under warranty. I requested to talk to [REDACTED] and he wouldn’t let me talk to her. He wouldn’t let me talk to anybody that could handle this situation. Then he called me a racist. After numerous times calling me a racist, I decided to tape the conversation for the last eight minutes. You can hear him right in the beginning of the tape calling me a racist.

The product, in the report: LG Range - Propane Cooktop and Oven Stainless steel

Product Information Product: LG Gas Range / Oven Brand/Manufacturer: LG Electronics USA, Inc. Retailer: Lowes Purchase Date: January 1, 2025 Delivery/Installation Date: January 15, 2025 Serial Number: 407KMYH15010

Incident Description I purchased an LG gas range from Lowes on January 1, 2025. It was delivered and professionally installed on January 15, 2025. Since the first use, there has been a persistent strong gas odor whenever the oven is in use. This odor does not occur when using the cooktop burners.

I reported the issue to LG several times beginning in January 2025. Initially, I was told this was normal for a new appliance. In June 2025, LG advised me to run the self-cleaning cycle with windows open to burn off the smell. This did not resolve the problem.

In July 2025, LG acknowledged the problem and said they would assign a warranty service provider. Despite repeated escalations, no service has been provided. Their system has produced false service confirmations (e.g., listing my own email address as the providers contact, showing appointments that never occurred, and marking service completed when no technician ever visited). To date, no repair or inspection has been completed.

The oven continues to emit a strong gas odor every time it is used.

Safety Concern The smell is consistent with natural gas, raising concerns about leakage or incomplete combustion. LG has not inspected or repaired the unit despite acknowledging the warranty. I am concerned about the risk of fire, explosion, or carbon monoxide exposure. This is not an isolated problem with customer service the appliance itself may be defective and unsafe.

Injury/Property Damage No injuries yet, but continued exposure to leaking gas poses a health and fire hazard. Household members have avoided using the oven due to the odor and safety concern.

Resolution Attempts Multiple calls and escalations to LG (phone, social media, Presidential Escalation team). LG has not provided service despite over 7 months of complaints. LG has instructed me not to hire my own repair provider, claiming it would void the warranty.

Requested Action I am reporting this to CPSC because LG has failed to address a potentially dangerous defect in a consumer gas appliance. I request that CPSC investigate whether this issue indicates a broader product safety hazard affecting other LG gas ranges.

I purchased a new stainless steel LG gas range. Within a week or so after purchase, I was baking bread at 400 degrees F. I noticed the exterior strip of stainless steel on the outside of the oven, knob area, was extremely hot. We clocked the exterior temperature at over 175 degrees F. I contacted LG, they stated it is within spec, that it can reach up to 180F and still be considered within spec. I have a small child at home (2 years old) and I believe even with careful monitoring, this oven is not safe for households with small children. Manufacturer (LG) was no help.

My wife received an email about our LG range and oven. Recall #25-126. Unfortunately this recall only applies to electric ranges, not our gas one. If you accidentally hit any of the control knobs but do not turn it far enough the gas quickly fills the kitchen with a good possibility of an explosion or severe burns. I went to the LG recall site and discussed this with a lady named [REDACTED]. She told me there have not been any other consumer complaints with this issue on the gas ranges. I find that hard to believe. There have been several accidents since 02/2017 when we first bought the LG range. My wife did come very close to being burned when she was cleaning the control knob area.

When I bought my house, there was already installed an LG gas range with a dual oven (Model number LDG4313ST) On multiple occasions, the slightest accidental bump or brush against the knobs has either turned the gas on or lit the fire on the associated burner on my stove. While wearing my baby in a carrier and simply walking past (not cooking) her foot bumped the knob and ignited the burner (no injury I turned it off right after) and I have bumped it walking past or leaning to grab a spice or something (thankfully no injuries at this time). I live in fear of my cat jumping up and turning it on when I’m asleep because it is just that easy to ignite or to turn on the gas. The knobs are also too large for most baby proofing covers (I’ve wasted money trying them) so I don’t know what else to do. Today is the most recent occurrence but it has happened multiple times.

The product, in the report: LG gas range. Model LGD4313ST It’s a gas stove with a cook top & oven. Double over, actually.

I learned of the recall on LG electric stoves this morning. I have one of their gas stoves of the same era. I’ve had the same problem, that burners are easily turned on by accident. In the case of the gas stove, it’s easy to miss that it’s happening, unless you happen to hear the gas. I’m guessing that this is a problem because of the way the switched are designed and they are probably the same on both the gas & electric models.

The product, in the report: Residential Gas Stove

I live in San Bernardino CA. The most damaging wild fires in the history of State of Califonia broke and lasted for months. Fire prevention has been top priority. Few days ago, we have a black out . The microwave was out, I reached out to the kitchen to the gas stove to heat up some breakfast. As soon as I turned the Stove on I smilled a very strong oder filed up the little kitchen of our apartment. I turned the stove off and opened the window to vent the gas out. The stove igniter was elecric, it would not oporate because the power was out. Few feet on the living room were a couple candels burning, but a sure fire disaster was diverted. The stove was not equiped with a flame sensor to stop the flow of gas when it does not ignite. The stove was only one year old, it is LG brand bought from the Home Depot. I called the Home Depot spoke to a manager and asistance manager, they would not understand the urgency of the situation.

The product, in the report: Dual over 5 burner gas range LDG4315ST from LG

The LG Range LDG4315ST has no safety feature to ensure that there is an active flame once the gas valve for a range top burner after the gas supply is activated and the control knobs are very easy to bump by accident by clothing or by pets etc bumping or walking across the controls. If this happens the gas will flow unchecked leading to unsafe air or worst case gas explosions. We have bumped the knobs several times and had a pet walk across and turn on the gas supply with no flame. Similar electric stoves from LG have now been recalled for similar knob activation issues, but with electric stoves most of the dangers can be avoided by not leaving anything on the stove. This is not the case for a gas stove where hazard is not excess heat, up until the point there is an explosion. We now always remove the knobs when a burner is not in use.

The product, in the report: Gas range knobs

Caller stated that her gas range emanates gas fumes because the knobs when brushed against it moves easily causing the gas to escape.

Caller stated that she has been experiencing this problem since purchase. (9/21/22) A service technician came out and advised that they should place a safety plastic cap on it, however, it did not fit. Caller stated that her spouse accidentally bumped against it without his knowledge, and it came on.

(8/20/24) Caller stated that she contacted the manufacturer but they are unwilling to assist. Caller feels that this range poses a safety hazard and should be reported.

(10/2/2024): The knobs on this stove move so easily that the slightest brush up against it causes the gas to ignite the fire as it did occasionally, since purchased. The woman I spoke to did not explain the problem entirely as I told it to her! My husband was not injured, I was, but only slightly. The main and most serious incident was when our son came to visit us and when he walked in the door he said “I smell gas”. This is what caused me to call the LG people again for the second or third time. They then sent out a technician from a company called [REDACTED]. As he was talking to us, he accidentally brushed up against the knobs and the fire came on! In the end of his visit he told us to purchase a child proof knob covers (whic we had already done but they did not fit) and to get a natural gas detector (which we did as he told us and I quote “They (The LG people) won’t do anything about it!”)

The next serious incident was when the gas detector went off in the early morning because once again one of the knobs was slightly turned on. This is the time my husband must have brushed against it as he was turning off the light above the stove. Then when I saw on our TV news channel on 9/13/24 that there was a recall of some [REDACTED] Electric ranges that caused some 250 fires I thought I had better report this very serious problem with our gas stove. Our home and our very lives are at stake. This gas range could blow our house and us up!! Thank you for your help.

Slight injury - I lifted up grate to pick up dropped item and fire on stove and flame came on as I pulled hand out from heat of fire grate fell out after hand and caused a slight injury to wrist. I took a picture of injured wrist. Most importantly, gas fumes almost caused home explosion if not for gas detector we were told by appliance repair man to purchase which is what we did!

Upon investigation there is a crack or missed sealing process in the gas manifold (pipe assembly) under the cook top at the main inlet joint. The leak buried my measurement device. I have been noticing a smell for a month or so, but has grown. No known injury, but breathing gas cant be good. Called LG, they say concerned but I will be charged for their manufacturing defect. Concerned on safety due to major gas leak and potential for catastrophic injury.

The product, in the report: Gas Range

We purchased an LG gas range and it has been leaking gas at burner over the past few days. We believe this was a faulty unit when installed and the problem has gotten worse and hence we detected the smell. The installer confirmed yesterday that the connection point is not faulty and all the burners leak gas (when the knobs are off, we smell gas). The installer recommended replacement of the unit and has turned it off for safety reasons. I am concerned for other owners if this problem may be dormant and may worsen over time. I am also concerned that when I called LG they are claiming the first appointment for a technician would be to arrive in 4-5 days from today (Jan 19, 2024). LG claims this is their standard process which is very problematic as gas leaks are generally considered serious issue. And surprisingly, someone in the president’s office noted this is not the first time they had this issue and they will send a technician only during weekdays.

The consumer purchased a gas oven over 5 years ago. She said the oven expelled an excessive amount of carbon monoxide in her home.

The range also had 2 different gas leaks, on 2 separate burners.

The consumer indicated that she has experienced dizziness, nausea and memory lost.

The consumer was unaware of the symptoms until her CO detector started alarming in the home. She went on to say that this could have cost her life.

Parts to repair the unit cannot be ordered. Therefore, the range is a total loss.

(3/27/2023) A service technician examined the range and wrote that it was heating, but there was also a strong gas odor present. The technician proceeded to check for gas leaks with a gas leak detector. He found a heavy gas leak emitting from the front right burner and the left back burner. He advised the consumer not to use the range due to the heavy gas leak. However, the technician did not open the range, so it is unknown how much more extensive the problem is.

The technician also wrote that it was not cost effective to repair. The tech. found another gas leak from the back of the back range, emitting from the oven. He closed with the following: For the customer’s safety it is best for the range to be replaced and there are no parts available to repair it.

UPDATED ON 6/9/2023: [This is definitely a public safety issue. This letter is concerning the LG Oven I brought 5 years ago is expelling excessive amount of carbon monoxide. It also had two gas leaks on two burners. Please see. attachment. I have been experiencing headaches, dizziness, and memory loss.

I could not explain why until we discovered the carbon monoxide monitor going off. This defective unit could have cost me my life. Parts to repair unit cannot be ordered. This would make this unit a total loss.

Refrigerators, stoves, and microwaves that are made in the United States last about 25 more years than their unit. The United States has a high standard. Five years means this unit is lemon and it is dangerous.

I have enclosed work order. I still have unit in my home. I am requesting a full refund of this unit which I purchase 5 years ago at JC penny and any medical expense moving forward due to gas leaks and or carbon monoxide exposure or cancer due to the longtime exposure to gas leaks and carbon monoxide cover by your company LG. I am also requesting that the public be made aware of the defects in your unit. It could save lives and illness. There may be a need for a recall on this unit.]

The product, in the report: LG Oven

We bought this LSG4511 model oven back in February 2018.

Recently, we have discovered flames coming out the back of the oven where the grate is covering the convection fan.

We were cooking a frozen pizza over the weekend and started smelling something burning, and also a heavy gas smell.

Then we realized when we looked in the oven there was a grate covering the fan that was bright orange and a blue and orange flame coming out of the grate fan covering the fan.

I have included a photo with the blue flame and apparently the grate got so hot it practically melted and got warped. I have seen other issues regarding this where it may have something to do with the fan not circulating. I assume this flame is causing significant temperature variations where the oven thinks it is at a certain temperature but isn’t.

Understand here our appliance is possibly out of warranty with the purchase back in 2018 but this should be lasting us way more than 5 years.

Is there anything LG can do to help with some guidance on repairs or have a tech person come and have a look? Serial number is 711KMXY0A498

It appears there are other people that have experienced the exact same issue as us here.

I have an LG gas stove (range)2015. Model LRG3081st100…serial number 512MMES08180. We were using the oven and everything around the perimeter of the oven (cabinets, granite countertops, tile wall, range hood including the range itself became extremely hot. You couldn’t even touch it with your hand. This never happened before. Thank God I was home or I do believe that a fire would have started. I immediately reported this to LG at 1-800-243-0000. I spoke to a lady named [REDACTED]. She told me not to use the stove, this would come under a “safety warranty” and a technician would be out to evaluate. I received texts messages from [REDACTED], a presidential liaison. Text messages came from these numbers. [REDACTED]. [REDACTED] .And [REDACTED]. I spoke to [REDACTED] yesterday 3/21, and he provided no help.

Health Risk. Screws from within the oven came loose, fell into food dishes, and ended up in the mouths of people eating at a family dinner. Two people were affected by having the screws end up in their mouths. The product is LG range model LTG4715BD. LG initially sent out a technician - they replaced the screws. Screws came loose again and fell into the oven - thankfully not the food the second time. I have approached LG exhaustively to address this flaw and two other issues and they will not address it. So, the risk of a metal screw falling into food remains.

    Subject: Fire risk

Reference: LG cooktop model# LCG3611ST Dear Consumer Product Safety Commission,

I would like to report a safety concern with LG cooktop model# LCG3611ST. The cooktop knobs are made of plastic and after a year or so they start slipping off over the metallic levers such that the user would not realize that fire may go out, but the lever is not fully turned off and the gas would leak. In my example on January 4th a household member switched off the stove and fire went out, but the knob slipped over it and the gas leaked for several hours at night, luckily, I walked down the house into the kitchen at 2 am and was able to shut it down without an incident. I informed Costco Warehouse of the failure. It appears LG electronics is aware of this problem because the part carries a rating of 1.4 / 5 from 42 reviewers and the company has discontinued the part. However unfortunately they are not offering any alternatives. In my opinion, this defect is a serious threat for users of this cooktop where knob(s) is failing, this can cause a fire and other harmful effects. It is my request that a quick action be taken through product recall.

Mr. [REDACTED] President, LG Electronics, USA [REDACTED] [REDACTED]

    Dear Mr. [REDACTED]

On May 14, 2019, we purchased a suite of LG kitchen appliances from Big Sandy Superstore in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Unfortunately, we did not opt for the extended warranty given the LG reputation for quality. This reputation was soon proved false. On June 10, 2019 we had to have service on the dishwasher and on June 14, 2019, we had to have a repair on the refrigerator. Just 14 months after we made the purchase the over-the-range microwave quit working. We chose to replace it with a countertop unit as the cost to repair was outrageous including a $99 fee for a service call.

Most concerning though when we cooked our Thanksgiving turkey the oven (gas range) overheated. It was set for 450 degrees, but the temperature got so hot that the chrome finish on the knobs partially melted and bubbled. Subsequently we bought an oven thermometer to monitor the oven temperature. On December 10, 2021, my wife baked gingerbread to make gingerbread houses. She set the oven for 350 degrees but noticed a burning smell. When she opened the oven, the gingerbread was burnt, and the oven thermometer read 450 degrees. This is very disconcerting since the malfunction could result in a fire. This is no longer a case of unreliability; it has become a safety hazard.

I am sending a copy of this letter to Big Sandy Superstore and the Consumer Product Safety Commission. I researched their site and found other complaints of LG ovens overheating.

I request at least a partial refund of the price of the microwave and the range. We should not experience these failures within such a brief period, especially when one constitutes a fire safety hazard.

    Sincerely yours, [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: LG slid In Range

We recently had a disturbing incident with an LG range that we purchased from Lowes. In brief, during an oven cleaning the range over heated and nearly started a fire. Attached is a time line and copies of text messages between [REDACTED] and LG.

Aside from the fact that it took such a long time to get satisfaction we had a greater concern regarding the reason for the overheating that was never addressed. Several times we brought up the issue of product safety and asked if LG was looking into a possible design flaw. Have other purchasers of this model experienced similar problems? Would purchasers be notified of the problem and warned not to use the oven cleaning setting? Although we were told that the issue would be referred to LG’s Product Liability Department we never had any follow up. Most curious was the fact that no one at LG seemed interested to get our stove back so that it could be examined.

We keep thinking that if the stove hadn’t shorted out (see time line) would our house still be standing and doesn’t LG have some responsibility to ensure that their products are safe?

Needless to say, even though the self-cleaning oven feature is touted as a selling point it is a feature that we will never use again.

Time Line for LG Range Malfunction

LG Range – Slide In Model # LUTG 4519 SN 100 Serial Number 103KMGJ04087 Purchased at Lowes with the warranty plan on 6/1/2021

    Installation Date – 07/20/2021

August 23, 2021 – During an oven cleaning the stove got so hot it was starting a fire, singing the envelope glued to the back of the stove and melting the plug – fusing it to the back of the stove. The plug eventually melted enough to expose some copper wiring which then made contact with the metal which shorted out the stove. We called Lowes and then LG Service and was told to pull the stove away from the wall in order to get the Model and Serial Numbers. When this was done the outlet was pulled completely out of the wall. The switch plate was dimpled from heat. Photos attached. LG Support USA was also contacted on line (see attached print out of conversation). The ovens were totally locked and there was no power to the range however we could use the burners if we lighted them with a match.

August 26, 2021 – A repairman, [REDACTED], came to look at the stove. He called LG Tech people and confirmed the problem.

August 31, 2021 – We were referred to LG’s RA department and texted with [REDACTED] through September 10th trying to get some resolution (see printout of text conversation with [REDACTED]). We were approved for a replacement stove.

September 16, 2021 – Still not having received an RA number so that we could get a replacement stove [REDACTED] drove to the Lowes store where the range was originally purchased (Niagara Falls Blvd., in Buffalo, NY). After explaining the situation to an Assistant Manager he called LG and was able to get the RA number which would allow me to purchase a replacement stove. The model that overheated was not available so we chose a similar LG range that cost less. We were told that we wouldn’t get a credit for the malfunctioning stove until it had been returned to the store. A credit would then be issued immediately and we should see it on our account in 3-5 days.

October 21, 2021 – The replacement stove was delivered and the damaged stove was removed.

November 1, 2021 – After many phone calls to the local Lowes store, and speaking with 3 different employees (head cashier [REDACTED], [REDACTED] in sales and [REDACTED]) it was finally resolved and the credit was put through.

November 3, 2021 – The credit appeared on our credit card.

I have photographs and copies of correspondence that I can send but could not figure out how to attach them.

The product, in the report: LG slide-in gas oven

We purchased an LG slide-in gas oven and range from Appliance Connection on August 10 of 2020 for $2,024. It arrived in September of 2020 and we installed it in November of 2020. It is a double oven and the top oven has never worked. It doesn’t get up to temp and shows an error message. The first time I tried it, when I opened the door the flames blew out and singed my face. The next time I tried it, it seemed to be working so I looked into it carefully. Nothing happened so I looked a little closer and delayed flames blew out again, this time singeing my hair, face and arm. In February of2021 I reached out to Appliance Connection who told me I needed to speak to the Manufacturer. I first contacted LG Electronics on 3/16/21. I supplied the proof of purchase and the serial numbers (There were 3 on the front of the oven). They told me to try turning the oven off and on. I’d obviously already done this, but I tried resetting the breaker as well without luck. After a lot of back and forth we pulled the oven out and found additional serial numbers on the back. On 4/19 they again requested the model, dealer, proof of purchase and serial numbers which I provided again. On 4/20 I finally received confirmation that they had assigned a reference number to my case, [REDACTED], and I should be sure and answer my phone and texts and await contact for the next steps. It also asked AGAIN for my proof of purchase, which I uploaded. Around 5/3 I still hadn’t heard from anyone so I reached out via their chat. At that point in time they told me someone would get back to me in 2-5 days and assigned me a chat reference, [REDACTED]. On 5/11 I still hadn’t heard from anyone so I chatted again and after about 30-45 minutes they told me that they hadn’t been able to locate a service tech in our area and had referred it up the chain and gave me a new reference number, [REDACTED] and said that someone would get back to me in 2-5 days. On 5/15 I received an email saying, “(Action Required - Please see below to upload your proof-of-purchase with LG) Following up to your recent conversation with LG Customer Service, your proof-of-purchase is required to proceed in processing your case. Please use the link below to access LG’s document portal and upload a legible digital scan or photograph of your original proof-of-purchase to LG Customer Service” I forwarded this email WITH screenshots this time of my proof of purchase to their Customer Service email and I have uploaded the proof of purchase AGAIN. I have still not heard back, still can’t use the oven. It’s dangerous and I just want someone to come out and fix it.

We purchased LG Gas Cooktop model LSCG367ST in August 2017. The knobs in the cooktop were made partially from plastic (bottom part). During usage and heat exposure plastic is deteriorating and braking down. It disconnects top aluminum knob from plastic bottom and make impossible to shut down the gas and therefore creates fire hazard. I have contacted LG numerous times. They created repair order [REDACTED] on 8/7/21 and promised to fix it ASAP. It has been a month since that time and they still have not fixed nor replaced knobs. The product, in the report: LG Electronics model LSG4513BD gas oven UPC MEZ265953016

As reported to LG Electronics in regards to my model LSG4513BD gas oven:

<<I have recently (within the last 3-4 weeks) noticed a smell of gas when starting the oven. We had also noticed an occasional small “boom” noise, like a mini-explosion, while the oven was running. The owner’s manual mentions “popping” noises as being normal, but this is most definitely a “boom” and not a “pop”.

I had the company that installed the gas line inspect the connections and they were fine. The tech noticed flame coming through the grate at the back of the oven, which I had not seen before, but explained the recent experience of food closest to the burner getting burnt while cooking. We also noticed that the grate in front of the burner chamber appears to have been deformed and/or melted from prolonged exposure to the direct flame.

While the oven is out of LG warranty, we had bought the extended service plan through Best Buy, and the technician attempted to repair the oven yesterday. he replaced the Heater, Plain (part MEE61841401) and the Burner Assembly (part LG-ABF73469901) but the problem continued. He was planning to research the issue when he returned to the office. He instructed us NOT to use the oven, as the “booms” indicated an accumulation of gas inside the oven that was a dangerous safety issue.

After he left, I did some online research, and found an internet message board thread about this exact same problem with the exact same model, as well as other similar ovens. I have several concerns about this. One is that this seems to be, if not common, then at least somewhat widespread issue with this oven technology and should have spurred a recall or at least a safety notice to your customers. The second concern I have from reading the thread is the seeming unconcern from LG about an unsafe situation being caused by one of their products. That is unacceptable.

    [REDACTED]

The Best Buy technician is unable to return until May 18. As this is apparently a known safety issue by LG, I would like an LG repair tech to repair this issue ASAP, using the correct parts the first time. In the message thread above, there are several posts listing the correct parts required, as well as the fact that a technical bulletin has been issued and a new part # required to correct the problem. I realize that the oven is outside of LG’s warranty but we are still covered by Best Buy and this is a potentially dangerous product safety issue - LG and Best Buy can figure out who pays for the repair, but I want my oven fixed.>>

The consumer said that one can barely brush against the control knob for the range burners and they turn on. There have been instances where only the gas came on and other instances, where the flame actually comes on, if someone brushes against it.

Sometimes, consumers can hear the beeping sound, when the range comes on and in other instances, there may not be a beep sound, but gas could be emitted.

The consumer moved into the home in early December 2020 and the problem has been occurring every since they moved in.

The consumer said a person could walk by the range and brush past the knobs and the flames will turn on.

The consumer also noted that there are numerous reports of this issue on CPSC’s site and the firm gives the same standard response, “We meet all safety requirements.”

The product, in the report: LG Gas Oven - 3 years old. Model number LSG4543ST/00; Serial Number: 702KMKT0F205

Regarding LG Gas oven model number LSG4543ST/00, Serial number 702KMKT0F205; RNN number (I believe that is LG’s reference number for this complaint) [REDACTED] and we just received another reference number [REDACTED].

The LG oven is a little over 3 years old. This past thanksgiving we noticed there were flames from from the back fan vent (the back of the oven I believe there is a fan) and the flames were shooting out (my husband was cooking a turkey). We have turned the oven on since thanskgiving and the flames keep shooting out of this ven (my husband has video and pictures I can send to reflect this). In any event, LG was contacted end of November/beginning of December to advise of this safety concern since this is a fire hazard and we can not use and oven that has flames shooting out of it. After a month of back and forth with little to no communication or follow up from LG we finally was able to get them to send a repairman out to our home to inspect and fix the oven. The repairman showed up December 30, 2020 (over one month since initial incident!). The repairman spent 3 minutes and left telling us he needed to order a part that would take 3-5 days to get. It is over a week later and we have not heard from the repairman.

We contacted LG today to find out what was going on since we can not use our oven and this is a major safety hazard. They read their notes from their computer saying that the repairman advised nothing was wrong with our oven. After some more debate they gave us another reference number (noted above). This is a major safety issue with LG ovens - you can not bake with flames shooting out and LG apparently does not see the urgency in this situation let alone leaving a customer without and over for over a month with little to no communication or updates. I have advised them that I would be submitting a complaint to this agency as I would like this resolved prior to starting litigation and I don’t want this to happen to any other LG gas oven customers.

We have an LG Gas Range - model LDG4315ST. We purchased it at Lowe’s on Feb 20, 2017. Twice in the last 3 years, we accidently bumped a gas range knob and turned on the gas without our knowing it. It gassed the house and made a guest sick. I’ve been asking LG for a safety solution but have gotten the run-around. They tell me there are no safety caps for their large gas range knobs. I’m very concerned for users with small children or users who have family members with dementia. There absolutely must be safety mechanisms for these knobs.

My wife and I purchased an LG gas range for our kitchen, model LRG3194SS, on October 2, 2020 at the Abt store in Glenview, IL. It was installed by qualified technicians who hooked it up to our existing gas line after removing the old stove. On Monday, Feb. 10, we noticed a strong gas smell coming from the oven. All the controls were turned off. We called our gas company, [REDACTED], and two men came out with diagnostic testers that clicked and measured the presence of gas. They shut the stove off completely and wrote up a service ticket, which reads” Range, first floor, leak at appliance, oven passing gas with control in off position, meter on, tape not applied.” Abt sent a technician to our house two days later. Upon doing the same check for presence of gas and diagnosing the problem he told us the stove had a defective safety valve that was “prematurely worn out.” He enabled the cook ~op but the oven was disabled. Today, Feb. 17, an Abt technician brought a new safety valve. After installing and testing he said the replacement part was defective. Once again we can use the cook top but the oven is disabled. Abt is going to call again later this week for an attempt at resolving the issue. At this point we don’t trust that a reliable safety valve can be provided that won’t start leaking gas.

However, the knobs were not turned enough for the burners to emit a flame. The problem can occur with any of the burners..

The consumer said that one can simply brush by the range and this can cause this problem to occur.

They have awaken or have been alerted to the smell of gas on several occasions, but have not been injured. When it has occurred, they quickly open windows or doors, to eliminate the gas odor.

The product, in the report: LG Gas range, Model LDG4313BD, Stainless Steel

My wife and I purchased an LG range, Model LDG4313BD, on November 9, 2017. We were disturbed to find two years later - around November 21, 2019 - after the warranty had expired, that the oven cooked unevenly. Some foods on one side of the oven were in different states of doneness than those, in the same cooking container, on other sides. We were more concerned, a few dates later, when the oven would not heat up; however, after a couple of minutes, a fireball ignited in the oven! We quickly turned it off.

We called a professional repair person to look at the range. He stated initially that LG ranges were a problem and that the lower convection oven motor needed to be replaced. The gas would heat up, but with a broken motor, had nowhere to go other than to ignite within the oven. He subsequently replaced it for $373.00 – that for an oven that was barely two years old. He also warned us not to use the self-cleaning option on the range because that, too, would be a problem. My wife called LG to complain about the range fireball and was told that the warranty had indeed expired and they could refer us to an LG repair person. Of course, we had already hired someone who had replaced the range motor. LG did not stand behind its product at all.

When you brush against the stove knobs they can turn on with out you knowing This has been happening since we purchased the stove in 2016. ON 12/11/19 my wife was in the kitchen and while reaching in the cabinet above the stove bumped the range knob and turned on the gas. I walked in to the living room and smelled gas and went in to kitchen to see what the problem was as we had a fire burning in the fireplace. My wife told me what had happened and she turned of the burner knob. In contacting LG, they state they have not had complaints about this issue even though a year ago I contacted LG and the phone tech stated he had the same stove and the same problem. I looking at many reviews on the Home Depot web site on this stove, this seems to be a major problem as there are many reviews stating they have the same issue. It is just my wife and myself that live in the house so we tried to be careful even though we have brushed against the knob a number of times and had them turn on. I guess having gas in the house and a fire in the fireplace was a wake up call. In some of the reviews, people actually remove the stove knobs when grandchildren visit. I would call this a serious safety concern. I have left a review on the Home Depot site to add to the others with the same issue. This product needs to be recalled before someone dies. The knob design has from the first week led to unintentionally turning on burners. I was shocked to see how easy it is to do this just by leaning over or brushing against the front of the range top. The bottom of the knob protrudes beyond the front edge. So far, the bell that sounds has saved us from starting a fire, but WE ARE AFRAID THAT THIS DESIGN ISSUE WILL CAUSE A HOUSE FIRE. The knobs can be easily redesigned to avoid this by tapering the lower part of the knob. But this is currently a hazard. We love the range, but are concerned about its safety, not just for us but for other customers too.

Despite the “Loc” feature being turned on at all times when our gas range is not in use, the burner knobs turn on unintentionally at the slightest bump. On many occasions this has happened, and thankfully we have to this point realized when the gas was coming from the burner on most occasions fairly quickly. However, one occasion we did not realize for quite some time and all ended up with severe headaches. This is a HUGE safety concern. If we do not catch the gas turning on like this, we could go to bed and our house fill with gas. This is totally not acceptable! I have reached out to LG regarding this safety concern, and was told that unless we received physical injuries or property damage, there was nothing they could do. LG knows there is a problem; I have researched this particular model of range and found that hundreds of others have had similar experiences as we have had, and others have ended up having fires as a result of this faulty model of LG gas range. As a parent, I cannot sleep soundly at night knowing that this range is so dangerous. I find myself constantly checking the range & knobs just to make sure that gas isn’t coming out of the burners. Again, this is happening while the so-called “Loc” feature is on.... also would like to note that with the “Loc” feature on, barely turning the knobs counterclockwise causes gas to come from the burners as well (this occurs without even pushing the knob in... you are supposed to have to push the knob in and then turn clockwise to get the gas to turn on when the the Loc feature is OFF... gas should not be coming out period when Loc is on nor when counterclockwise. Obviously this is either a design flaw or defective ranges). Waiting for a serious personal injury or property damage is not an acceptable response from LG!! The extreme headaches from the gas was bad enough! My family’s safety is number 1 to me. It’s a shame that LG does not care about its customers’ safety.

The product, in the report: LG Gas Range - Stainless Steel, a5 burner w/ convection oven (double oven).

The LG gas range we purchased has the knobs on the front of the range that are very easily turned on. We have turned them on a number of times just by being next to the stove; however, we have always smelled the gas within a few minutes.

This morning I was woken up to the smell of gas in our upstairs bedroom of which we calculated that the gas had been on for about 5 hours. The knobs on this range are very unsafe and could be even more dangerous with children in the home.

I have since found out that there is a safety feature to lock it; however, it’s a matter of remembering to do that. Older ranges are safer than the new ranges. These need to be looked into. They are very poorly designed and very unsafe!

Stove burners turn on unintentionally whenever the knob is ever so slightly brushed. Sometimes it will ignite; sometimes gas will just leak out, and until the odor is detected, it is difficult to know that the gas has been turned on. Knobs can be accidentally bumped to release gas without lighting the burners. They’re in front & low; this can also happen if you are reaching towards the back of the unit to clean it. I think that my dogs have turned this unit on as well. I can’t imagine how dangerous this is if small children are in the household. I have had to resort to removing the knobs when not in use. No solutions from LG were offered.

The product, in the report: Gas Stove cook top

This regards an LG gas stove cook top, model LCG3091ST.

The safety issue is that the burner control knobs easily break with normal usage and one such breakage jammed the burner gas on before it was ignited and couldn’t be turned off until I got a pliers and was able to turn it off. Quite a bit of gas had been released at that point. If I hadn’t had pliers handy it could have been very dangerous, more so than it already was.

Details: We purchased it in 2014 and had it installed in our kitchen. The problem is that the knobs that operate the burners are poorly designed plastic and they break off with normal usage. We have had to replace *at least 5* of them over time with the first breakage happening within about 9 months of purchase and installation. One of the broken knobs left some part of the knob in the control jamming it in an “on” position without the gas being lit.

Given that I have replaced at least 5 of them over time it is clear that they are poorly designed and our experience is not an isolated incident.

I have an LG double oven Gas Stove, purchased in Nov. 2015. I have had a problem with it igniting just by brushing against the knobs. I had a service call from the maintenance Dept from Conns Stores in Nov 2017 before the warranty expired. The serviceman checked it and that it was within norms, I am NOT happy with this as it is very dangerous and the accidental ignition is more of a problem as the stove has gotten used more. The service repair man told me to put rubber pads inder the knobs if I wanted it stiffer. Later in the year I spoke to a company rep and was told there were no other claims of this type. The knobs are now such that they ignite at the slightest brush and if they don’t ignite they turn on just enough to leak gas fumes. We all have to constantly check the knobs when we pass thru the kitchen. This was a very expensive stove and I am very disappointed.

I did not put rubber pads under the knobs as I felt this would alter the original product.

LG Canada to cover up the problem provided us with false information. They refused to assist us. Knobs design and burner valves need changes. By accidentally touching the knobs it opens gas flow that fills up the room. It happened to thousans of customers. It happened to our family 5 times . Our family do not feel safe by having this unit in our condo. Somebody is going to be hurt and LG is neglecting responcibility. Hope you can help. Thank you. [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: gas range Bar Code Number: 310MMGRO9463

This is a report alleging that an LG range (please see attached) incorporates a burner top grill design that subjects cooking pots to fall off the stove. While in the process of using the subject LG five burner gas range surface burners, one of the pots containing boiling water fell off the top of the stove and onto the floor to my right dispensing the hot water in a great mess. Fortunately, I was positioned to the left of this event at that time thus avoiding personal injury. Also fortunate was that my grandchildren were in another room at the time.

Ordinarily a pot falling from a stove range top would not be news to anyone; in this circumstance it is because the subject pot of water being heated was seated over the corner burner located there and appropriately on a cast iron grill platform theoretically provided to support the pots or pans while positioned thereon.

During a subsequent analysis of the event, it was determined that the manufacturer of the LG range had failed to provide pot-platform support at each front corner of the perimeter of the range top.

In order to further define the grill-top configuration, if one were to take a pot and while viewing it from the top imagine that it was resting on a grill where one quarter of the bottom surface area of the pot was unsupported because there was no grill components beneath it that image would describe the defective design of the subject LG range grill system. Another image of familiarity; observe a checkerboard and imagine that the outside half of the corner squares have been cut away and then try balance a checker’s chip on those defective “squares.”

Perhaps now with the above concept in mind it can be recognized that a pot would always have to be overly centered toward the middle of the range top by the consumer to have some degree of safety from a pot cascading off the top of the stove (without warning). This cautionary measure would first presume that the consumer was aware of the hazard in the first place. That knowledge would not however eliminate the hazard. Given the frequency of use and the lifetime expectancy of a household range, it is probably safe to opine that such an event as mine will befall more people than not using this product.

Hopefully, the CPSC finds this report of value.

    Hazardous Incident: LG Gas Range

I am 70 years old and in my lifetime, I’ve cooked on a number of stoves, including some pretty primitive camp stoves, but this, hands down, is the most DANGEROUS stove I’ve ever used. The problem is the design of the burners, including a 12-inch gap at the front of the stove between the only two metal prongs reaching forward---if the center grill is removed-to support pots and pans.

I got the stove in early December 2017 and almost immediately noticed a problem with pots and pans tipping, especially if they were not at least 8 inches across the base. At one point, a kettle I’d used for years SAFELY, tipped suddenly, spilling its contents all over the stove and counter, but I blamed myself, thinking I just wasn’t used to the stove.

The tipping problem gets VERY DANGEROUS if the center flat grilling section is removed, as it inevitably will be for washing-exactly what I did on the morning of February 11, tossing it into the sink while I finished cooking. I then moved a pot of hot water (fortunately not yet boiling) from a back burner to the front burner and turned loose of it, only to have it tip suddenly, spilling scalding hot water all over my abdomen from the waist down, with particularly heavy burns around my waist line where the waist ban on the pants I was wearing caught and held the water against me. Additionally, the scalding water hit my upper legs, especially my right leg. I can’t recall whether I caught the pot or if it only partially tipped and then was caught by the stove, but it did not fall completely off the stove. I immediately found myself in severe pain-ultimately with huge patches of blisters--but had the wisdom to immediately remove the scalding hot clothing and pour ice water on the burns, followed by cold towels until my daughter could transport me to the emergency room at Los Alamos Medical Center. There, they determined I had first and second degree burns over roughly 8 percent of my body, although I think it was a bit higher, as the next day, I found some additional burns on my lower right leg and foot.

In response to this incident I have gotten rid of pots and pans that I HAVE USED SAFELY ON A VARIETY OF STOVES FOR DECADES, and while I’m trying to be cautious, I live in fear of a reoccurrence. A beautiful new stove that should be a joy instead has become a nightmare.

Of note, LG sent me some other burners, which only somewhat rectify the tipping problem in that some horizontal front prongs are bit further forward, but the safety issue that occurs with the flat meat grill removed persists, and in response to that, I have a rule that when it’s off the stove, the stove is NEVER turned on except for perhaps the back burners because, bottom line, no matter what, it leaves about a 12 inch gap between any burner supports.

I was a science reporter covering los Alamos National laboratory for 13 years for 2 major dailies, and it’s obvious that LG engineers have not properly taken Newton’s law of Gravity into consideration. Of note, neither my daughter’s relatively new gas range nor my neighbor’s brand-new range have similar tipping problems. Their stoves provide adequate and safe support at the front burners.

It is my belief that all LG Gas Ranges of this design need to be recalled or their burners replaced with ones that rectify the tipping problem, and that would not be the replacement burners that LG sent me. They need a whole new design that provides support CLEAR ACROSS THE FRONT OF THE STOVE for all pots and pans set there and whether or not the flat grill is in place. Or at the least, that grill needs stamped on it: CAUTION: Do not use front burners with this removed!

Your range has caused several instances of inadvertent gas buildup within our house with corresponding threat of asphyxiation, and/or potential explosion or fire, a potential silent killer! The basic fault is the location and design of the gas burner control knobs on the angled face of the stove top. Minor brushing of these knobs with one’s body during use or work on the stove top has in multiple events opened the gas burner to gas flow without ignition. When this occurs, it is not obvious from position of the knobs, sound, or odor, and is easily overlooked. Upon leaving the kitchen, we have in several instances, become aware of substantial gas build-up within the house due to this condition. Luckily my family did not retire for the night with this condition or we would not now be alive to write this letter.

A similar problem is the inadvertent ignition of a stove top burner while one’s arms are above the stovetop. This results from mistaken burner ignition due to the position of the burner control knobs, the very minor pressure necessary to turn the knob to ignition, and the speed of ignition. This type of unwanted ignition has very nearly caused burns to us and our clothing. In my opinion, it is very likely that someone will be burnt very seriously when their clothing catches on fire.

These conditions of inadvertent gas release and inadvertent burner ignition has now occurred multiple times in just two months of use, despite our knowledge of this issue and attempts to guard against these conditions, checking, double checking, and triple checking. While we have been extremely diligent in trying to guard against and check for these conditions, it is not humanly possible to adequately guard against these conditions, even with obsessive checking. Nor do we want to spend our lives checking the range and in fear of disaster.

Most recently after preparing dinner, and what we felt was careful checking, we became aware of an extremely strong odor of gas throughout our house, again! We found gas flowing from two burners that we inadvertently opened without ignition in the manner described above. We immediately ventilated our home but believe we were literally minutes away from a substantial catastrophe. We believed that we had adequately checked for inadvertent gas flow, but obviously had not. Someone had used the stove without enough checking, and this simple mistake could have easily ended our lives. This range is a killer!

We must ask for a full refund of the purchase price for our range and the additional secondary cost of the extended warrantee we had purchased, totaling $1,646.83 so that we can replace the range with a more conventional safer design. This is not an issue with simple dissatisfaction with this LG product, but rather that the range constitutes a very real threat against our lives and limb. Regardless of the level of caution we take in use, just one overlooked simple action could easily result in the loss of our lives.

I strongly believe that the design of this range and the issues of operation I have described above, will be responsible for multiple instances of loss of life and substantial personal injury from fire. This range needs to be recalled until LG can design suitable corrections to provide adequate safety! I must assume that a great many of the other purchasers of this range have experienced these same conditions and feel as threatened as I do. Please step up to this problem with your product and do what is right.

Please also be informed that we have contacted LG’s consumer support department by phone, concerning this issue. Your representative offered to arrange for a service call to evaluate the issue further, which we agreed to, without the offer of other alternative from LG. However, please understand that the issues involved are not a “service” repair problem. The issues are inherent in the physical design of this range as I have described above. It is not conceivable that my family can feel adequately safe with the continued use of this range without a very substantial modification to this product. We strongly feel we must replace this range immediately.

Please fully expedite correction of this very dangerous condition. Time is of the essence. Please contact me at the above address or by phone at [REDACTED] to explain your intentions in this matter.

    Sincerely, [REDACTED]

This caller is reporting her gas range knobs that are continuously hot when oven is being used . She isn’t sure whether they ever become hot when only the cooktop is in use. She contacted the manufacturer who sent a tech to her home and advised her that the seal may not be tight enough around the oven door. There are no injuries being report

The product, in the report: LG gas range double oven / convection, model ldg4313st.

We own an LG gas range with a double oven, which we purchased in December 2017 from Best Buy. I believe the model number is ldg4313st.

This oven has knobs for the range on the front of the oven, at an angle. This was a concern of mine when we purchased the oven but we were reassured by the sales rep this was a new, safe design.

Unfortunately, we have found the knob placement is not a safe design. Both my husband and I have accidentally turned on the range with our hips / waist multiple times. This has occurred while reaching to use the microwave (above the oven) for both my husband (who is 6’ 5’’) and myself (5’ 2’’). I have also accidentally turned on the a range when reaching for something on a back burner. Yesterday I scorched my shirt sleeve; thankfully I didn’t catch fire. Last weekend my husband’s hip turned on a burner, which did not light, but gas ran for nearly an hour before we realized it was on.

I have reached out to LG who replied with their happiness I did not catch fire, but they did not offer idea or solutions to increase the safety of our range / oven.

Right now we’re afraid to use our range / oven. We’ve removed the knobs and are looking for safety covers, but are having a hard time finding ones that fir the knobs.
