The product, in the report: Microwave Oven all Combo Manufacturer: KitchenAid / Whirlpool Model: KOCE500ESS Serial Number: DC1007724
I am writing to report what I believe is a potentially serious product-safety issue involving a KitchenAid combination microwave/wall oven. Manufacturer: KitchenAid / Whirlpool Model: KOCE500ESS Serial Number: DC1007724 Purchase Date: March 31, 2023 Date of Incident: September 16, 2026 KitchenAid/Whirlpool Safety Case Number: [REDACTED] On September 16, my wife used the oven’s self-cleaning function. This was the first time we had ever used the self-cleaning function since purchasing the appliance. After the oven had been operating in self-cleaning mode for one hour, the interior glass panel in the oven door suddenly shattered into numerous small pieces. Some of the shattered glass remained inside the oven, but pieces also escaped from the appliance and landed on the wood floor in front of the oven. The oven was being operated normally, and the self-cleaning cycle is a manufacturer-provided function of this model. There had been no accidental damage to the oven door that we are aware of. We find it particularly concerning that this occurred the very first time the self-cleaning function was used. A consumer should reasonably expect to be able to use a manufacturer’s built-in self-cleaning feature without the oven-door glass shattering and pieces of glass escaping from the appliance. We reported the incident directly to the Whirlpool/KitchenAid Major Appliance Consumer Safety Hotline, which established Case Number [REDACTED]. KitchenAid/Whirlpool has agreed to pay for an authorized service technician to diagnose the cause of the failure. However, we were informed that the company is not agreeing at this time to pay for the actual repair.

Hurt, no treatment Made Sep 12, 2026, sent to the company Sep 16, 2026, published by CPSC Sep 30, 2026
The product, in the report: The KitchenAid 30” Double Wall Oven is a 30-inch electric built-in double convection wall oven
After cooking in our KitchenAid double oven for approximately 2030 minutes, we suddenly heard an extremely loud bang that sounded like a gunshot. We discovered that the glass inside the lower oven had spontaneously shattered. Glass was not only scattered throughout the inside of the oven, but had also blown out across our kitchen floor.
This was particularly concerning because there were children nearby, and the pieces of shattered glass were still extremely hot. Someone could have easily been cut or seriously burned.
When I contacted KitchenAid, I was not initially asking for replacement parts or demanding that they repair the oven. My primary concern was reporting what I believe is a serious product safety issue so that the incident would be properly documented and, where required, reported through the appropriate safety channels.
Instead, I was told that because the oven is approximately four years old, it is out of warranty and that any burns caused by the hot glass would essentially be my responsibility. I found that response extremely concerning. Whether an appliance is under warranty should have nothing to do with whether a potentially dangerous product failure is taken seriously and documented as a safety complaint.
Tempered oven glass should not suddenly explode during normal cooking and send hot pieces of glass across a kitchen floor. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured, but children were nearby and the potential for injury was very real.
My concern is bigger than replacing a piece of glass. I want KitchenAid/Whirlpool to formally document and investigate this incident as a potential product safety defect and handle any applicable safety reporting obligations. The dismissive response I received when trying to report a legitimate safety concern was unacceptable.

The product, in the report: Outside of the oven is extremely hot when left on for a period of time.
My kitchenAid - 5.3 Cu. Ft. Model # - KSES530SPS gets extremely hot on the outside, especially around the knob area. It could seriously burn a person if they touch it. The repair man said that is normal. I have had ovens my entire life, nothing like this has ever happened with any other oven I have owned.

The product, in the report: KitchenAid 30-inch Combination Wall Oven/Microwave Oven (Model KOCE500ESS20 ,Serial #: DB3803258/DB3803260. Case #[REDACTED]
The oven was installed in a new [REDACTED] home purchased in October 2022. The appliance was used according to the manufacturer’s instructions. I initiated the KitchenAid oven’s self-clean cycle according to the manufacturer’s instructions. During the cycle, I heard a loud popping noise but received no error messages. The oven completed the self-clean cycle normally. When the door unlocked after the cycle finished, I discovered that the inner tempered glass panel of the oven door had completely shattered. Thousands of pieces of glass were scattered throughout the oven cavity and remained lodged around the interior of the door. The oven has not been used since the incident. I have contacted KitchenAid, with no resolution.

No one hurt Made Jul 9, 2026, sent to the company Jul 21, 2026, published by CPSC Aug 4, 2026
The product, in the report: KitchenAid Stainless Steel Slide In Electric Range Model KSEG700ESS, Serial number RB2215278
Incident Details Product: Whirlpool KitchenAid Electric Range
Model Number: KSEG700ESS (Approximately 3 years old)
Date & Time of Incident: July 6, 2026, at approximately 5:30 PM CST
Description of the Incident: While preheating the oven to 350F for standard food preparation, the unit suffered a sudden and severe internal electrical fire. The range began shooting electrical sparks and releasing heavy clouds of smoke into our home.
My wife, terrified by the sudden combustion, screamed for help. I was forced to run into the kitchen and quickly pull the unit away from the wall to unplug it, risking personal injury to prevent a full-scale house fire. While we fortunately escaped physical injury, the event has left our household deeply traumatized by how quickly a routine household appliance turned into an active fire hazard.
Manufacturers Inadequate Response Despite the severity of this safety failure, Whirlpool has shown a disturbing lack of accountability and urgency:
Whirlpool dispatched a technician who conducted a brief, visual inspection and diagnostic.
The technician explicitly diagnosed the issue as an internal electrical failure requiring the replacement of multiple control boards and the baking element.
Unverified Safety: Despite labeling this an electrical failure, the technician deemed the unit “repairable” without doing a deep forensic examination of the internal wiring harness to ensure it is actually safe to ever plug back into a wall after repair. He left it unplugged for safety concern.
No Timeline & No Resolution: There is currently no estimated time of arrival (ETA) for the replacement parts. Whirlpool is expectedly leaving us with a non-functioning, fire-damaged appliance in our kitchen indefinitely.
Refusal to Replace: Whirlpool has flatly refused to assist us with a replacement unit, despite our clear statement that we no longer feel safe housing a product that has literally combusted in our home.
Conclusion & Requested Action Whirlpool is treating a major fire hazard as a minor inconvenience. Forcing a consumer to keep a structurally compromised, fire-damaged appliance in their home is unacceptable. I am filing this report because I believe this model poses an imminent safety risk to the public, and Whirlpool’s refusal to properly mitigate product fires is dangerous.
I request that the Commission investigate this model for systemic electrical defects and hold Whirlpool accountable for their failure to prioritize consumer safety.

No incident, no one hurt Made Jun 1, 2026, sent to the company Jun 4, 2026, published by CPSC Jun 18, 2026
The product, in the report: KitchenAid 30” Built-In Electric Convection Double Wall Oven with Air Fry Mode, Stainless Steel. Model No. KOED530PSS00, Serial No. DD5005062. Purchased November 21, 2025 from Best Buy (delivered and installed same date). Unit is a built-in double wall oven, 30 inches wide, stainless steel finish, electric convection. Manufactured by KitchenAid, a brand of Whirlpool Corporation.
While in normal household operation, a KitchenAid 30in Double Wall Oven (Model KOED530PSS00, Serial No. DD5005062) produced a sudden, violent electrical event a loud explosive pop accompanied by a visible flash of light consistent with an electrical arc or power arc discharge emanating from inside the unit. The oven was being used for routine baking by the household residents. Family members were present in an adjacent room at the time of the event. No physical injuries occurred, however the incident represented a significant potential fire and electrical hazard. Following the event, the unit failed to heat properly and has never been restored to safe, reliable operation despite six warranty service visits by an authorized repair provider between January and May 2026, during which the oven relay, temperature sensor, bake element, and control board were all replaced. The underlying electrical defect has never been resolved, and the risk of recurrence potentially resulting in fire remains a serious concern.

The product, in the report: KitchenAid Electric stainless steel 30” stove with a 4 prong cord. Self cleaning as well as
Bought a new KitchenAid Electric stove. It was delivered on Friday, May 8th and I used it for the first time on Saturday, May 9th. I set the over to 425F degrees to preheat so I can bake a casserole. Within a couple of minutes sparks and smoke were coming from behind the stove. Luckly my husband was in next room. We shut off power to the house and used a fire extinguisher to put out the electric fire. Black smoke and fumes filled our new home. Took off back panel to the unit and the whole control board is melted. We were lucky that we were close to the kitchen and not outside with our dogs because our house would have truly burned down. No one was injured but our nerves. I was in a fire as a child that this has just brought back the fears of dealing with a fire.

The product, in the report: White electric glass top stove, self-cleaning oven with multiple regular and convection settings. Approx 2008-2010 model.
I had a package sitting on top of my electric KitchenAid stove. I was out out of the room when all of my smoke alarms started going off. I went downstairs to my kitchen to discover the package on top of my stove in flames. It still seemed small enough that I doused it with water. It was confusing because I had not used the stove for several days. I noticed the burner was bright red, and also noticed that the oven was on, set to bake. I had not turned on nor touched either function of this stove/oven unit for many days. I turned the burner knob a couple times until the burner went off, turned off the oven, finished dousing the burning package with water, then moved the unit and unplugged it.
This incident filled my house with smoke, put me and my dog at risk, and remains upsetting. It also charred the range hood above the stove. I cannot use part of my house due to smoke/smell that lingers, and will require much cleaning and washing to remove the smell. Further the unit is damaged and cannot be used or fixed, requiring me to pay to haul it away and buy a new one.

The product, in the report: Kitchen aid Model: YKSEG700ESS4 range
On 16 March 2026 while operating my KitchenAid Slide-In Electric Range (Model: YKSEG700ESS4) during a standard [AquaLift Cleaning/Bake] cycle, the outer tempered glass oven door spontaneously shattered without warning or physical impact. The glass exploded forcefully, spraying small, sharp shards across the kitchen floor and into the oven’s internal vents.
This constitutes a significant safety and laceration hazard, however the failure occurred while no one was in the vicinity. Given that this model utilizes low-heat AquaLift technology (under 200F), the failure suggests a manufacturing defect in the tempered glass assembly (Part #WPW10634271). Despite reporting this hazardous product failure ([REDACTED]), the manufacturer has refused to provide a safety accommodation and is requiring a paid diagnostic to address a known defect.

The product, in the report: The cooktop is a KitchenAid, Model KECD867XSS02, S/N D41301402.
While making dinner I noticed the burner was not getting very hot. When I turned the burner knob off the burner then became hot and I started to see some light smoke. I hit the knob twice to try to get the burner to turn off but that did not help. I turned the knob back on heared what sounded like the stove arcing within a second the glass top from the cooktop exploded. Glass flew everywhere and a piece even stuck in the ceiling. The cooktop started to smoke more so I went to the electrical box and flipped the breaker off. All of this was captured on video. The cooktop is a KitchenAid, Model KECD867XSS02, S/N D41301402. Seen by a doctor or nurse Made Apr 12, 2025, sent to the company Apr 16, 2025, published by CPSC May 7, 2025
The product, in the report: KitchenAid induction
April 4, 2023 [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] RE: Product Malfunction and Personal Injury Claim To Whom It May Concern: On March 6, 2023, my KitchenAid range ceased to preheat properly. I was attempting to heat the oven to bake a loaf of bread when the main oven would not increase beyond 425F. When I tried to turn the oven off and re-enter the desired temperature, I discovered that the registered temperature had dropped to 375F. As it was later in the day, I unplugged the range in an attempt to reset the system. The next day, I experienced the same issues, although the bottom oven unit was working at a lower functioning capacity. The top burners were also working properly. I proceeded to call Whirlpool on March 7 to schedule service, as this product was under the 1-year manufacturer’s warranty. A Whirlpool representative from Alabama asked me several questions about the unit’s functionality issues, and an appointment was subsequently set for March 13, 2023. On the morning of March 10, I began cleaning food particles off the top left side of the range before heating water for tea. None of the heating burner/oven functions were engaged at this time. As I wiped the top right metal edge of the range with my dominant right hand, I noticed a slight tingling feeling in my elbow, similar to the sensation of hitting your funny bone. Suspecting that I might have slept awkwardly on my arm, I continued cleaning the unit. When I wiped between the counter and where the range met, where food debris had accumulated, I suddenly felt an immense electrical charge rush through my arm and up through the right side of my head. I became disoriented and immediately sat down. My partner, alerted by what happened, noticed my speech was slurred. When she asked how I felt, I told her I wasn’t well. She suggested going to the emergency room, which I initially declined as I wanted to see if the symptoms would subside. After about an hour, I attempted to stand and walk around, but my legs were very wobbly, and I felt uncoordinated. My forehead felt cloudy and congested. At this point, I realized I had likely been electrocuted. My partner drove me to the emergency room, and during the journey, I experienced pinging sensations on the right side of my brain, difficulty swallowing, and shooting sensations of cold, numbness, and twitching up my right arm. I spent several hours in the emergency room before being released in the mid-evening. Upon discharge, with my symptoms confirmed by medical staff, I called Whirlpool to request an urgent call from someone on their executive team. I was told someone would reach out within 48 business hours. A technician named [REDACTED] from [REDACTED] arrived as scheduled on Monday, March 13, in the morning. I explained the issues with the unit and requested that he perform a voltage test while the unit was cold/not engaged. [REDACTED] agreed, and I stepped away to take a phone call. When I returned, he confirmed there was electrical voltage registering and asked me to turn off the circuit breaker as a safety precaution. Upon pulling the unit out for inspection, he showed me where a circuit board displayed damage as if it had been “fried” in the rear of the unit behind a panel he unscrewed. He checked if he had a replacement part in his truck and proceeded to repair that component. After this, he ran code checks on the top display and discovered that the bottom heating element was also damaged, as well as some components on the top control board. After completing all necessary repairs, I requested that he document everything he diagnosed as well as the voltage reading. I retained the damaged rear circuit board and bottom heating element, which I still have in my possession. I called [REDACTED] the following day to request a copy of the findings and repairs made by [REDACTED]. The language in the report wasn’t as clear as I had expected, so I requested an amendment, which was subsequently made. At this point, 72 hours had passed since my call following the emergency room visit, and I still had not heard any follow-up from Whirlpool. Eventually, [REDACTED] from the safety department contacted me to inquire about the incident. I explained my account as detailed above, but he disputed certain aspects of my recounting based on his documented conversation with [REDACTED]. A claim form was emailed to me with an offer of $3,600 to replace the defective appliance. I have since followed up with my medical provider to seek neurological care. My next appointment is scheduled for June 9, 2023. I am experiencing lingering symptoms, including extreme fatigue and nerve sensations in my right arm throughout the day. My lifestyle has been dramatically disrupted because of this hazardous product your company sold to me. I have formally filed a claim to address my medical expenses and damages incurred up to now and any that may arise in the future as a result of your faulty product. In addition, I am also submitting a formal claim for physical, emotional, and mental damages related to your hazardous product. Kind Regards, [REDACTED] Phone: [REDACTED] Email: [REDACTED] Claim Reference:[REDACTED]

The product, in the report: KitchenAid range
We have a brand new Kitchen Aid range. The enamel inside the oven at the bottom is coming off in large pieces within 2 months of use. They condsider this “cosmetic” and will not warranty cover it. We have not used any clean cycle nor anything to cause. These enamel pieces float around, especially with convection and get in food. I’m not sure how they are allowed to get away with not covering such a huge safety issue, there are many reported cases. Eating enamel is a huge problem! It is so dangerous for consumers. Kitchen Aid needs to remedy this and replace this for any consumer affected. Please note that mountain high appliance has been helpful and is trying to get the manufacturer to correct this

No one hurt Made Dec 19, 2023, sent to the company Jan 3, 2024, published by CPSC Jan 19, 2024
The product, in the report: Oven/stove/Range
A fire erupted in my KitchenAid stove, which was purchased/installed in new construction in the late summer of 2016. The oven had been on preheat mode for approximately five minutes when a muffled noise emitted and suddenly a large orange flame could be seen through the entire oven box window. There was no food in the oven at the time, the oven was clean, and it was on pre-heat mode for approximately five minutes. The pre-heat mode had been set to 400-degrees, but it had only attained approximately 300-degrees at the time of the incident.
My wife immediately turned off power to the oven at the unit. I watched the flame for a period of time that probably was no more than a minute or two. When I perceived the fire would not extinguish itself, I readied the kitchen fire extinguisher and prepared to open the oven door. Just as I was about to open the door, the fire seemed to diminish so I waited. Eventually, the flame disappeared, but considerable smoke was emitting from the rear vents on the stove. I turned on the overhead exhaust fan, which vents to the outside, and that kept the smoke from further infiltrating the house. The air that was venting with the smoke was extremely hot, so I was unsure whether the fire was completely out or was continuing to burn behind or underneath the oven. Eventually though, both the air cooled and the smoke subsided, so I was confident that it was out. I then went outside and turned off the breaker to the oven, which was on a dedicated switch. The breaker did not seem to me to have tripped.
When I was able to open the oven door I saw that the fire had burned through the steel pan on the bottom of the oven box and left a yellow residue to the right of the hole as if under pressure. If you like, I have pictures of the hole and this residue available.

We called the manufacturer of my pacemaker and I was told absolutely not to get within 3 feet of the stove top when it is on! I called the retailer to cancel the order and explained why. I suggested that there should be a sign near the store display or that salespeople should be required to advise consumers. I was told that I would have found that out when reading the owner’s manual!! This is a dangerous situatand should be resolved ASAP.

Turkey and dish were inserted into preheated oven (375). After about 30 to 45 minutes my wife noted a load bang in the room and found that the internal oven glass on the door had shattered. Subsequently, she opened the door and found that there was hundreds of pieced of glass in the oven and on the door. Turkey appeared to be ok, but we decided not to save it for fear of glass in it. Combination wall unit is Microwave over oven. Kitchen Aid model;KOCE500ESS20, S/N DB3506094

The product, in the report: glass cooktop range
The consumer started contacting the firm in early June-2022, so that he can participate in the recall.
He’s been told that his requested unit was not available at that time, but would be available later. However, 2 months later, he was told that the requested unit is no longer available, as a remedy.
The consumers experience frequent storms in Florida. When the power shuts off to their home and comes back on, their stove automatically turns on.
The firm has been willing to give him cash, in the amount that he paid for his unit, but he claims that he can’t buy one for the amount that he paid for this one, in 2019.
This year in 2022, the consumers were out of town. When their house-sitter came inside, all 4 range burners were in the on-position. She was able to turn them off, using the control buttons.
When this happens, the control buttons can be used to turn the range off.
The firm’s response for this problem for the interim, is that the consumer’s should trip the breakers, whenever the range is not in use.
The company’s rep’s (names unavailable), have told him that the range is included in CPSC Recall# 19-189.

Sept 27, 2021 - purchased a new Kitchenaid Range Model KFED500ESS from Best Buy for $1980.
July 2022 - plastic part of burner knob that fits onto shaft broke; Kitchenaid replaced;
Oct 18, 2022 - ANOTHER knob broke while the burner was in its hottest position. This time a metal piece of the knob remained on the shaft, making it EXTREMELY difficult to move the shaft to the off position. While trying to remove the metal part and move the control to OFF, it was necessary for my arm to be above the burner. I had moved the sleeve of my top above my elbow to prevent the clothing from catching fire. But the burner was at the highest heat making it very difficult to get into a position with a pair of pliers to remove the broken metal piece from the shaft and turn the burner off.

The product, in the report: Kitchenaid electric double wall ovens. Model number KODE500ESS04. Serial number D84706523
Kitchenaid double electric wall oven Model number KODE500ESS04. Three minutes into preheating the oven, I heard a loud screeching sound. I looked over to the ovens and saw it was bright red--- like a blow torch and smoking. I ran over and turned the oven off at which time the control panel shorted out. The rear heating element came apart in pieces. There was ashy dust covering the interior. This happened in the upper oven. I realized after, I could possibly have been electrocuted when I turned off the oven. If I hadn’t been in the kitchen, my house might have burned down. This is not an isolated incident---I went back to Lowe’s website to read the reviews on this oven and found a consumer had the same thing occur only it was in the bottom oven. Kitchenaid needs to rectify their design and make sure they are not using substandard parts. Their quality control department certainly needs some oversight. I have owned this wall unit less than 3 years.

The product, in the report: Smooth top four burner electric range with oven.
My husband and I, both seniors, purchased a new KitchenAid range, model # KFEG500EWH4 and Serial #RA4310727, from WDC in Oxnard, CA. We ran the oven at 350 degrees for one hour. The area behind and above the range handle became so hot that one could not leave a hand on it. A child would definitely be burned. The handle, of course, is right in the front. The entire unit became very, very warm giving off much heat into the kitchen. We feel this model is poorly designed, a definite burn , and possibly a fire hazard. We have purchased many KitchenAid products over the years including ranges, but this one definitely does not come close to the previous quality. It would not be safe regardless of brand.

Last night I smelled something burning and came downstairs to find my KitchenAid electric stovetop burner on very hot EVEN THOUGH NO ONE TURNED IT ON AND THE POWER LIGHT WAS OFF. Luckily (?) it was melting a plastic Halloween decoration on the stovetop – the smell of burning plastic alerted me to the fact that it was on.
I thought maybe one of my sons had shoved something on the counter to cause the cooktop burner dial to be just slightly out of the OFF position so i jiggled the knob/dial to make sure it was securely in the OFF position and left again to tuck the children into bed.
I came back down to check it an hour later and it was STILL red hot even though the power light was still off and the burner control/dial was in the OFF position. I turned the dial/knob all the way around to assure myself for good that it was in the OFF position and sat down with my computer in the kitchen to work for 2 more hours, assuming it would definitely be OFF by then but went I back it was STILL HOT. At that point I gently pressed the knob and heard a gentle pop sound and then BURNING ODOR AND SIZZLING AND SMOKE coming out from around each burner knob. I ran to the garage and flipped the breaker and it FINALLY went off. Now, tonight I looked to see whether others had experienced safety issues with this cooktop and I see that there was a recall in 2019 for this exact same reason – however MY COOKTOP IS NOT LISTED IN THE RECALL!!!! Also, the recall information did not mention that anyone experienced the complete inability to power off the cooktop once it spontaneously turned itself on.

The product, in the report: electric, double wall oven
After the technician installed the oven, he turned it on (for the burn-off period), which is part of the diagnostics. The technician stayed at the consumer’s home for couple hours and informed her that this was done as a normal procedure. However, the oven would not turn off, before he left. The instructions indicate that the oven needed to operate for a period time before the first use. The consumer attempted to turn off the range later, but was not able to do so.
Her husband stayed up overnight, because of their fear of this range. The next day, the consumer tripped the circuit breaker to turn the oven off.
The manufacturer sent a technician back out to diagnose the oven. That technician also called the company to discuss the issue. The technician and the manufacturer’s rep. told her that she should discontinue use of the oven and they would replace it for her with a new one.
The consumer claims that the mfr’s tech. indicated that due to Covid, they don’t have the level of quality control that they previously did and many ovens are having a variety of problems.
The consumer has not been able to use her oven since the end of May 2021.

Our electric Kitchenaid glass cooktop was installed in December 2018. Since then, we have had episodes where one burner turned on by itself. This event is always preceded by power outages. Yesterday, our power was flickering off and on. The power outage had turned on three burners this time. There was a kitchen towel, a plastic-handled knife, and a piece of plastic near one burner. All three items burned or melted, filling my house with smoke. This is the first time that three burners have been turned on. We suspected the burners were mistakenly turned on by a cat, so we always kept the stovetop controls locked. Prior to yesterday (9/8/2020) we had no idea there was a recall. Our unit was registered and we utlized the Kitchenaid app.

Incident involves Kitchenaid dual electric ovens. Product was purchased in May 2019. After a few months, I was alarmed to find a loose screw on a tray of French fries. I contacted the manufacturer, Whirlpool, and they sent out a service company as the product was still within the 1 year warranty. The repairman told me that they had never encountered this issue and proceeded to re-insert the screw. A few months later, I found another screw on July 13, 2020 after removing a cake. Fortunately, I found the screw at the bottom of the oven and not in the cake after someone inadvertently bit it. I again contacted Whirlpool and they are again sending out a repairman. Based on my conversation with the customer service rep, this seems to be an unknown issue and there is no sense of urgency to identify or correct this issue.
I believe this is unacceptable risk and I am no longer comfortable using this oven due to the risk to my family.

The product, in the report: Kitchen aid serial #R43410436 model# KERS202BSSI Electric range
Purchased a Kitchen aid stove serial#R43410436 Model #Kers202BSSI in 2014. It came with a 1yr warranty which I chose not to extend since I had problems from day 1. I fought to make them extend 6 months which they did. Since that time I have had multiple problems that they covered as SAFETY but the last two could have caused a major problem.
The last 3 issues were electric causing potential fires. All were averted but very scary. The first time enclosed element caught fire. They replaced it no questions asked remember no warranty that was in ? a few years back. In 2019 the replaced element again caught fire around Easter. Then again in June 2019 the stove was on preheat low and one top burner on low. Hurt loud bang all power in house went out, we immediately unplugged stove from its own 3 pronged plug which is on its own fuse. Yet entire house blew and took awhile before power could be reset. Once again they sent someone out this time to replace element again BUT technician stated wires in back were too close and needed to be separated and that is how it caused power outage. He returned a week later corrected it and replaced element. On Friday Sept 27th I was baking at 350degrees turned off oven. It was off for 20 minutes. Getting ready for work and smelled burning went to check and saw stove was flashing DEFAULT TURN OFF POWER. The stove was extremely hot all over had difficulty moving stove out to pull plug.
I then started attempting to call Whirlpool, Kitchen aid, May tag no one answers. Their online doesn’t reply corporate safety didn’t reply. I eventually got through by bypassing a different choice of numbers. I eventually sneaked into the executive line and spoke to a [REDACTED][REDACTED]. He states they will replace stove at 65% of MRSP cost.
My issue is it has been an issue that they must be aware of or why keep fixing with no warranty. They put myself and family at risked. I would like answers and a new stove as I know this one has been a lemon from day one in 2014. I do not want anyone else to be at potential risk. I speak up but many maybe have been fixing on their own or bought new.
Thank you [REDACTED]

I own a Kitchen Aid Electric Range with a glass cook top. On August 1, I returned home to find the back right burner on high. It had apparently been on for hours as a dish of butter in an upper cupboard two feet away was melted. I recently read an article about stating “...cooktop surface elements can turn on by themselves, posing burn and fire hazards”. KitchenAid was cited as one of the brands having this problem. My model number is KESS907 and was purchased approximately June 2015.

Submitter says that the oven was on self-clean when him and his wife heard an explosion. The glass from the oven shattered and there were glass shards all over the kitchen floor and the oven. The floor was damaged due to the hot glass shards.
Submitter received minor cuts and burns when attempting to clean the hot glass shards. No medical treatment was needed.
Submitter believes this exploding glass could have caused severe injury or death to anyone who was in proximity to the oven at the time of the explosion.

The product, in the report: KitchenAid 30 inch 4 element electric downdraft slide-in range
I have a KitchenAid 30 inch, 4 element electric downdraft range. About 2 weeks ago, my boyfriend was putting away dishes from the dishwasher and brushed up against the control knobs for the elements. He did not realize he had even touched it, let alone turned it on until the stovetop started smoking from one of the cutting boards that was on it. I had thought it was just a fluke, a random occurrence. However, this morning the same thing happened to me. I don’t even remember brushing up against the stove as I was only making coffee and our coffee pot is no where near the control knobs. But as soon as I walked back into my kitchen not even 5 mins later, I knew something was wrong because I smelled the same smell again. One of the other elements was on and burning a cutting board. It was not the same element my boyfriend had turned on. I am deeply concerned about this because if I ended up doing it, anyone could. I am concerned a child could rub up against it and accidentally turn on an element. Not to mention whether a child or adult turns it on accidentally, there is potential for personal injury especially if you do not know the stovetop is hot, and the major issue which is something catching fire and burning a house down, which could be fatal. I implore you to please look into this matter. I would hate to see anyone get hurt or injured because of this.

The product, in the report: KitchenAid Double Oven (Electric) model KFED500ESS
While using a KitchenAid brand oven with model number KFED500ESS, one of the knobs controlling the heating elements broke off while attempting to turn the knob to the off position. This prevented me from safely turning off the oven heating element, and could have resulted in injury or property damage. After turning the element off using a wrench, I looked at the knob to identify why it broke and it appears that the knob is made of a very thin plastic, which broke under the heating-cooling stress of being near a high-temperature area such as the spot above the heating elements of an oven. This is a danger, as KitchenAid has defective control knobs on their ovens which can prevent the users from safely turning them off if the knob were to suffer a failure. The age of this oven is only 14 months, and was pruchased new from the store, previous ovens I have owned have never suffered a failure such as this even when going beyond 10 years of frequent use.

When the power came back on, two out of five burners on her cooktop were on. The cooktop was not in use when the power went out. The consumer contacted service and was told to turn the circuit breaker off and then turn it back on.
(03/03/2019)The consumer contacted the manufacturer and was transferred to the Safety Department. She explained the incident and was advised that sometimes that happens. The consumer was also advised that turning the circuit breaker off and on resets the circuit board. She was also advised that they did not consider the incident a fire issue.
The consumer contacted the Safety Department again to advised them that the product is unsafe and wanted a refund and the product removed from her home.
The consumer still has the product but is waiting for Kitchenaid to contact her to arrange for the removal of the cooktop.

The product, in the report: KitchenAid Self-Cleaning convection double electric wall oven
While cooking in our oven (KitchenAid Model#KODE500ESS00) we heard a loud popping sound. Upon investigation, we found that a large shard of porcelain enamel had broken away from the lower cavity of the oven. At closer inspection, several more sharp pieces of broken enamel were found.
If ingested, the sharp enamel could cause extreme physical harm.
Although there are multiple customer reviews/complaints (over a period of several years) concerning this same occurrence, I see no recalls issued for this KitchenAid appliance.
A Whirlpool/KitchenAid certified technician came to our house. He spoke directly with Whirlpool and was told that it was “simply cosmetic” and the company could send out a touchup paint to fix the problem.
It is the SAFETY of my family and of other consumers who have purchased the same defective oven that I’m concerned with.

A fire started in the heating element of a Kitchen Aid electric range oven. Shortly after turning the oven on, a buzzing electrical type sound was heard and then a small flame was seen on the heating element in the oven. The oven was turned off and the flame extinguished.
After the incident, the consumer saw that the heating element appeared to have been welded in four places and the fire came from one of those weld points. The consumer was concerned the heating element had been broken prior to his purchase of the range 7-8 years ago, and it had been poorly welded back together for sale.

As part of a complete kitchen remodel in 2013, we bought an entire suite of Kitchenaid appliances. The Kitchenaid Architect 30-in 6.2 cu ft Self Cleaning Freestanding Induction Range in stainless steel (Model KIRS608BSS0, and S/N R34312238) has been a nightmare from the very beginning. The repairs have been too numerous to count. Today, however, I have become fearful of using my induction range. I was cooking, in an induction pan I’ve used many times, on the right rear burner. About 10 minutes after turning the burner on, I saw a very bright arc form between the surface of the cooktop and the pan, with a simultaneous loud popping noise that brought everyone running to see what had happened. The burner shut itself off, and stopped working.

This consumer is reporting that her electric range glass oven door exploded. She purchased this range December 2012 from an appliance sales retailer in Ft. Myers, Florida and had no problems with it until March 16th, 2017. The morning of March 16th, 2017 the consumer placed her range on the cleaning cycle then after approximately one hour she heard a sound like an explosion or very loud crash. She and her husband rushed to the kitchen where they saw glass all over their kitchen and viewed that the inside door had exploded with the glass coming out through the bottom of the outside glass. The range was immediately turned off. She is reporting this incident as a severe hazard of laceration injury. There are no injuries being reported at this time. She contacted the manufacturer who advised the caller that this situation had been a problem with this model. the only thing they could do is schedule repair at the consumer’s expense of $311.29 which she has scheduled but which she believes is totally unfair. She has filed a claim with FTC.

The product, in the report: KitchenAid 30” Single Wall Oven with Even-Heat™ True Convection
1. What happened to prompt your Report? My wife ran the self-cleaning feature of our ~16-month-old oven for the first time. Approximately two hours into the procedure, she attempted to turn on the oven light (which she discovered the oven refuses to do during self-cleaning), and the inner pane of glass in the door shattered. (I can only assume that her presence caused some very minor shift in pressure/vibration/etc that was the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back.) Some of the glass fell out the bottom vent onto the floor, though much of it remained in the oven. Upon opening the door (after the oven had cooled), more glass fell onto the floor, as well as between the door and oven, between the gasket, etc.
2. What type of product(s) were being used? KitchenAid 30” Single Wall Oven with Even-Heat™ True Convection (KOSE500ESS00)
3. Who was using the product(s)? My wife was using the oven.
4. How were the product(s) being used? The automatic self-cleaning cycle was being run.
5. Was there a harm or risk of harm, such as an injury, illness, or death? How did the harm or risk occur? There was (and is) risk of harm from glass particles being stepped on or ingested (either by pets or infants eating off the floor, or by anyone from food prepared in the oven in the future).

About 1.5 hours into cleaning, there was a tremendous blast. Went into the kitchen and found glass everywhere as well as smoke. Could not access the oven as it was too hot. Turned off circuit to oven and called Fire Department. Fire Department made the determination that the unit is defective and that it should be removed immediately. This is not an isolated incident with this model number. KitchenAid is refusing to do anything about it.

The product, in the report: DUAL UNIT ELECTRIC WALL OVEN
while performing a self clean mode on our Kitchenaid KEBS208SSS dual wall oven, the inner glass of the top unit emitted a large BANG , almost like an explosion. We checked the oven and saw that the inner glass panel was split into thousands of fragments of glass. The force was so strong that chards of glass were pushed thru the steel mesh gasket while the oven door was still locked. glass pieces were found on the floor as far as eight feet away. we stopped the self clean process and allowed the unit to cool. hours later we cleaned up the glass pieces with a shop vac. Contacted KItchenaid...very concerned however would NOT cover repair because unit was 7 years old. not willing to accept ownership of a defect in their product. shameful

The product, in the report: KitchenAid double wall oven, model # KEBS207SSS, serial #XW3504799
My KitchenAid double wall oven, model # KEBS2077SSS, serial # XW3504799 - the interior glass panel exploded during the self-cleaning cycle. Unfortunately it’s Thanksgiving week...we ran the self clean on the upper over first, that worked fine. Then we ran the self-clean on the bottom oven, and near the end of the self-clean cycle, the interior glass panel exploded into a million little pieces that started shooting out around the edges of the door, onto our hard wood floor in the kitchen - the little glass pieces were so hot they burned spots into the finish on the wood floors. This was very difficult to clean up and we finally placed large pieces of cardboard on the floor to catch the small glass pieces that kept dropping out around the edge of the door as the glass cooled. The explosion shot glass pieces two or three feet out onto the floor, thank goodness we were in the next room and no one was injured or burned.

The product, in the report: Kitchenaid 36” glass cooktop with downdraft in black Model: KECD867XBL02 Serial: D44901759
I was using my Kitchenaid 36” glass cooktop with downdraft. I had two burners operating for several pans for approximately one hour (off and on as needed.). After completing my last cooking task, I turned the burners off. Within about 30 minutes, I noticed that the indicator light was on and checked the appliance. Indeed the left front burner was hot and while I stood there it came on (burner turns reddish when heating) and then I heard a wire shorting sound (sizzling/clicking) from the area of the knob on the cooktop. I turned the knob, wondering if it was not turned to a full click but it was surely in the ‘off’ position. I turned it on and then off several times and the shorting sound continued in both positions and the burner remained on. Interestingly this is the second Kitchenaid appliance of the same type which has done this. We just replaced our other cooktop in March 2015 for the same reason. I contacted Kitchenaid about the problem with no reply. Since this cooktop is nearly 4 months out of the warranty, I’m guessing they don’t care. My greatest concern is that this is a fire hazard. Had I not been at home when it occurred, my home may have been set ablaze by a faulty appliance. Or worse, had my family been at home sleeping, we may have all been killed by this faulty appliance. It seems reasonable that one cooktop could go out in this way and it could be a fluke, however, twice with the same appliance from the same company seems like a manufacturing process problem and I feel that Kitchenaid should address that problem.

The product, in the report: Kitchen Aid 30” four burner ceramic down draft cook top
Cook top burners continue to blow fuses. It is a four burner with two dual burners and a down draft vent. It is a Kitchen Aid Cook Top. After repairing two burners, the hot surface light did not work to warn someone that the burner was still hot. The latest incident was yesterday when a fuse blew and another burner went out. After that, the unit was buzzing so we had to turn off the breaker. We turned the breaker back on and one of the burners would come on without being turned on and the only way to turn off is at the breaker. This will be the fourth time we had the repair guy out to fix something. I spoke with the manufacturer requesting a new cook top but they would not help other than sending someone to repair the unit. I finally forced the manufacturer to extend the warranty for another year. The cook top was purchased in July, 2015 and has only been installed since November of 2015. This is a dangerous unit because the hot surface warning indicator does no function with all burners, now the unit comes on without being turned on and the burners continue to blow fuses with a very loud pop when they blow

Re: Kitchen Aid electric combination range with convection microwave on top and regular oven on bottom. Newly installed by builder’s vendor 7/2015.
Situation: On 3/4/16 while roasting vegetables in the lower oven we heard a loud bang. We got up to find that the interior glass oven window had exploded inward into the oven, with some glass ejected onto and across the kitchen floor.
Result: The entire interior oven glass shattered and dispersed throughout the oven floor. There was also micro glass residue dust in the oven, and glass pellets and a few sharp shards ejected onto and across the kitchen runner carpets and floor.
Note: We had NOT caused any micro fractures to the glass by closing the door hard, impacting it with the oven racks, dropping something on it, etc.

Kitchenaid double oven glass exploded during first use of self cleaning cycle. Glass was not damaged prior to the explosion. Shards of glass went across the room at the time of the explosion and we were cleaning glass for weeks afterward. Kitchenaid would not replace the shattered glass. We are making a second inquiry to request replacement. Kitchenaid is fully aware of the danger of the exploding glass and the fact that the explosion could cause serious injury or worse. This product needs to be recalled and at a minimum, the defective glass should be replaced.

Purchased a KitchenAid double oven, Model KEBS207, installed by professional. The lower oven is rarely used, less than 10 times in 2 years. Due to a very small amount of spilled cheese on the bottom of the oven, we started the “Self-Cleaning Cycle” on lower oven only for the first time since installation. Went to bed. Awoke 3 hours later to sound of shattering glass and found broken glass on the kitchen floor. The inner glass on the door had shattered at the very end of the cleaning cycle. Nobody around thank goodness. The oven was not excessively dirty.

For the third time the control panel for the oven has worn out. When this happens the oven “OFF” button no longer works. This should be considered at least a fire hazard and since it is recurring about every two years it should be something that is considered faulty.
The control panel is a screen printed circuit that wears out with usage. Seeing that they charge over three hundred dollars for a new control panel I feel it is tantamount to a scam. They know the limitations of it and have done nothing to make the situation better.

(12/01/2015) The consumer turned on the oven to use the self cleaning system. She set it for two hours and 30 minutes. During the process, the house started to heat up and there was a terrible smell in the house. Her eyes got teary and watery.
(12/01/2015)The consumer contacted the firm and was advised that a service person would be out to check the oven on 12/8.
The consumer neglected, in her original report to speak about that design. The new elec. ovens have the lower elec. element hidden under the floor of the oven. Previously that element was placed on the oven floor. They now have vents below the oven door running the width of the door. When the oven is on, hot air is vented out into the room; and should you be running the self-clean cycle, you have heat of up to 600 degrees. You can imagine the discomfort & side effects to the person in that home.
All in all, the consumer can’t understand why ovens with this design are allowed to be on the market The consumer believes them to be unsafe & unhealthy.

The product, in the report: KitchenAid Double Wall Oven Model: KEMS308SSS00
Item: Kitchenaid Wall Oven Model: KEMS308SSS00 Serial #: XU4108505
Oven bought and installed in October 2007 from Sears as part of total kitchen appliance upgrade.
On 15 November 2015, while using the oven self-clean utility for only the second time since install, the inner glass panel shattered. Glass was shot out the bottom of the oven door, reaching as much as 10 feet distance from the oven. Glass was hot enough to scorch baseboards (flooring is ceramic tile).
The glass panel was never subjected to any abuse and was kept clean usually by wiping with a damp dishcloth while the oven was at room temperature. Never used chemicals to clean.
No one was near the oven when the glass shattered, else there would have been very painful burn injuries, and cuts from flying glass.
To remove all glass particles, oven will have to be dismounted and disassemble to ensure all glass dust is removed from the convection fan system.
Unsure what KitchenAid will do to remedy. Hopefully, it’s not unreasonable to expect an expensive (~$3200.00) appliance to function as promised?

My Kitchenaid oven (Model #KESC300HBL4; Serial #IML0614050) was purchased in 2003 and has worked well during the time we owned it. Two weeks ago (August 20, 2015) the heating element arced and sparked and broke in two pieces near the back corner. I found a replacement heating element on Amazon, being sold by Virginia Service Supply Co., of Goochland, VA and received that element and connected it. All seemed to be working fine until Saturday Sept 4, 2015, when, out of nowhere the interior glass window popped and shattered while my wife was cooking bacon at just 350 degrees. A glass chunk about 2” long and 1/2” wide along with a lot of fragments broke out and landed in the oven.
It seems an odd coincidence that both issues happened within 2 weeks of each other and I am shocked that the glass broke at just 350 degrees. Many of the web reports that I have read refer to this issue when they are using the Self Cleaning function.

Kitchenaid electric oven purchased June 2014 from Sears in Illinois.
This caller is reporting that around August 7th, 2015 her electric range overheated after preheating to 350 degrees then baking for an additional five minutes . The caller became aware that the temperature had escalated past what it had been set at when she heard the glass from the 10” x 10” dish explode.
She said that the oven had become so hot that it was uncomfortable for her to stand in front of it and the round dish that was in the oven with the exploded dish did not exploded but was brown as if it had been sitting in fire, however there were no flames.
After this incident of overheating the oven is now not working at all.
There are no injuries being reported.
This caller is reporting this incident as a severe burn hazard and states that if the dish had not blown up there could have been a major fire and a possible explosion that could have potentially resulted in injury.
The caller contacted the manufacturer August 13th, 2015 and was advised that the product is not on recall.

The product, in the report: KitchenAid - 30” Self-Cleaning Freestanding Electric Convection Range - Stainless-Steel Model: KERS202BSS SKU: 6897326
I purchased the following product from Best Buy.
KitchenAid - 30” Self-Cleaning Freestanding Electric Convection Range - Stainless-Steel Model: KERS202BSS SKU: 6897326
The range was brand new, never used, but was an “Open Box” product as a scratch and dent floor model.
The product was delivered and setup and turned on for first time use: Bake 350 degrees. I was told to leave it on for about 1/2 hour and then turn it off until I wanted to use it.
About an hour after turning it off, I leaned against the top to set the timer and the surface was scalding hot, so hot that I thought that the burner was turned on, but it wasn’t. I attempted to open the oven door and the handle was hotter than the surface.
I called Best Buy, they apologized, found another unit that was brand-new, in the box, never used, and they exchanged it a few days later.
The delivery folks performed the same setup, turned it on at 350 degrees and left. About a hour later, I decided to bake something. I leaned on the surface to prepare food and was immediately burned again.
Perplexed, I checked the manual and didn’t see any warnings about not using the surface when the oven was on. I tried the handle and it was insanely hot also.
I used my cooking thermometer to record the temperatures of both areas and took photographs.
One picture shows the temperature of the handle area (137 degrees) and one the surface area (113 degrees).
I did call Best Buy and instructed them to pickup this new, 2nd unit immediately.

The product, in the report: Kitchen Aid Electric Oven
I purchased a new Kitchen Aid Electric Oven on September 6, 2014. The oven was manufactured with a blue porcelain paint covering the entire interior. On May 6, 2015 a large shard of blue porcelain paint was found in food my wife cooked in that oven. If anyone had consumed that paint shard it would have been a medical emergency and might have been fatal. On inspection I discovered that the interior blue porcelain paint has begun to detach from the oven wall in sharp glassy shards. I have attached some photos of the defective paint sharding. On May 7, 2015 I called Kitchen Aid / Whirlpool customer service to report the defect and seek remediation. Kitchen Aid customer service told me that the defect was considered cosmetic and was not covered under warranty. I explained that the defect was a health and safety hazard but they were unmoved. After a cursory internet search I found that this defect is not uncommon and many other people have received the same response from Kitchen Aid customer service. Our oven is unsafe to use and is therefore unusable. I don’t believe any remediation can make it safe again. This defect is an original design and manufacturing defect. This oven should be recalled and affected consumers should be compensated. Thank you.
