The product, in the report: GE electric stove, black glass cooktop, white glass door, front control panel
I cooked a frozen pizza at 400 degrees for thirteen minutes, like I have countless times before. Once my pizza was done, I took it out of the oven and turned the oven off. Approximately thirty minutes later, I heard a crash in my kitchen. Upon investigating, I found the outer glass oven door had exploded, throwing glass approximately ten feet across my kitchen. The oven was cool to the touch at this time. There was no damage to my oven previous to this incident. GE was contacted and set up an appointment for a service representative to come to my house to examine my stove, but on the day of the appointment, the service tech called and refused to come stating this was not a safety hazard and more than likely I had damaged the door to my stove and just hadn’t realized it.
I do have pictures of the incident, however, I was not able to upload them using your add photos feature. I can email them if you provide an address.

The product, in the report: Electric Range
The consumer stated that her range was installed in the home she purchased in Dec 2002.
The consumer stated that she turned on the oven and noticed sparks right away. The consumer stated that there were flames inside of the oven. The consumer stated that the flames were about 1-2 inches high on the bottom element.
The consumer stated that she turned off the oven from the control panel. The consumer stated that it took about 5 minutes after turning it off for the flames to completely go out.
The consumer contacted the manf and they asked her to not use the range. They sent out a technician on 2/23/15. They informed her that they can replace the element. The consumer was informed that they will pay for the part but she would have to pay for the labor ($161.99). The consumer was informed by the GE representative that this is a common issue.
The unit is not included in any recalls.
The consumer is afraid to use the oven or cook-top even after repair.

GE Electric Range/Oven Model # JBP26GV2AD Serial# RM224176G
Heard loud buzzing noise while standing next to oven and turned to see sparks shooting from under bottom edge of oven door and smoke rising from the vent at the right rear burner. Turned oven off (it was empty and was still pre heating) and bright flickering light and sparking noise was visible through view glass in door. Opened door to see a constant bright white burn on upper element with sparks continuing to shoot from that same spot on the upper right element. With door open, sparks shot out of the door towards us and burnt small place on kitchen rug. Also noticed what appears to be slag that had dripped from element to oven floor. It very much resembled a tig or mig welder the way the element was burning and arcing. Element continued to burn white hot and spark continuously even 5 minutes after cutting oven control to off. I had someone turn off the breaker for the oven at the house electric panel, which caused the bright burn to immediately stop, ceasing all noise and sparking. Element now appears to be melted across 2.5 inches, and is completely burned through in one spot where there is now just a gap in the element.
I understand that the element is now bad, but what I don’t understand is how this electrical arcing can continue after the power control to the oven has been turned off unless there is a defect in the control or the way it’s wired. Obviously during this condition the element is still getting power despite the controls, but up until this point, the oven obviously didn’t heat when it was powered off with the front control panel knob.
My concern is that if the element is getting power even when turned off, this condition could happen at any time, including when we are asleep or away from the house, and could ultimately cause the fire to spread beyond the oven and to the house itself causing property damage, injury, or potentially even loss of life.
This is the 2nd time we’ve had this happen as we had this happen on the bottom element last year as well. Again the arcing and burn would not extinguish until we turned off the house breaker, and it immediately ceased upon turn the house breaker off.
I have video and photos of the incident while the fire was in progress and after it was extinguished.

The product, in the report: General Electric Wall Oven, white
This is in regards to our GE Wall Oven Model # JTP15WOA3WW, Serial # 8Z686778Q
The wall oven is the one originally installed by the builder when we bought our house back in 2000. We turned the oven on to 425 degrees to pre-warm it before cooking. Shortly thereafter my husband noticed that only a small section of the bottom heating element was lit up. The bottom element was arcing with the side and bottom of the oven and creating bright white light. My husband turned the oven OFF and the bottom element continued glowing and arcing with the side and bottom of the oven. We could not get it to stop until we went to the breaker box and turned the oven breaker off.

First aid Made Jan 3, 2014, sent to the company Jan 13, 2014, published by CPSC Jan 29, 2014
The product, in the report: General Electric Stove Model #JBS17GR2AD. It is black with almond.
We have a General Electric Stove Model #JBS17GR2AD. Approximately 3:30 a.m. on December 25, 2013, I was awakened by a smell burning my nose. I got up and walked into my kitchen to smoke. I pinpointed the smell to my oven. I opened up my oven door to discover that the lower burner was on. A couple of seconds later the pan of oil, that I normally just stick inside, burst into flames. I got the pan out of the oven, the handle broke and the grease and fire fell to the floor and spread the fire further. The pan landed flat on my vinyl flooring with the oil still burning inside causing the floor to melt causing excessive smoke and smell. After calling 911, we were able to put out the fire. No dials were turned on to the oven. The oven came on by it’s self and was extremely hot well above the broil point as it melted the pan handle causing it to break off. We was able to turn off the electric and allowed it to cool down. We then turned it back on and the stove continued to heat up again. It will not shut off. We unplugged the stove. A couple days later, we plugged the oven back up and it continued to do the same thing. We were very lucky, the only injuries I received was a burn to my hand and foot.

The product, in the report: General Electric, Electric Free-Standing Stainless Steel and Black Range, Model# JB620SR6SS, Serial# TZ2169620.
On Friday, 09/20/2013 at approximately 6:30 pm, my wife was using our General Electric electric oven to cook. Our 13 month old son [REDACTED] placed his right hand in the approximate 3/4” gap in-between the bottom of the oven door and the top edge of the lower storage drawer and began to shriek in pain. My wife immediately picked him up and observed redness to his right index finger and middle finger. This area of the bottom of the oven door was extremely hot and caused severe 2nd degree burns to the tip of several of my sons fingers and blistering to the top part of his index and middles fingers. We immediately put his hand under cool water and called a family doctor friend who advised us how to treat his injuries. My wife and I later felt this same area of the stove after it cooled some and we found the middle part of the door to still be very hot even though it had been off for some time now. The left and right sides of the same bottom area of the oven door were much cooler. It appears that a 6” area of the interior lower area of the oven door is built without the same oven door gasket (WB04T10001) that surrounds the rest of the door. This in combination with a center trim bracket (WB07T10462) with screw (WH02X0930) acting as a conduit for the heat to escape led to my child’s injuries. If the oven door gasket completely surrounded the interior oven door, heat would not be able to escape and my son’s injury would not have occurred. A range should not be sold to consumers if a child can be burned without the door or lower drawer even open. I can see an accidental burning if the oven door is open or if a child is able to touch a hot stove top surface, but not a closed oven. Shouldn’t parents expect their children to be safe around a stove when the doors are closed?

The product, in the report: GE flat top range
I just finished baking brownies at 350 degrees on my new GE electric range. When I opened the door to retrieve them the exterior top of the door touched my leg and it burned my thigh. I then touched the closed door and realized it was pretty hot for my adult hands and if I was a little kid it would probably burn me. I was curious to see how hot it actually was so I rested a meat thermometer on the metal it reached 160 degrees just resting on the door. I took a picture of this with my cell phone to document.
I am concerned about other people that may have small children with this same stove and worried kids may get burned. This is the over safe teacher in me :). I imagine it would get even hotter on the exterior if it was cooking at a higher temperature or especially if it was in cleaning mode.
Please let me know if anyone has reported this or if you can look into it.
Thank you, [REDACTED]

GE Spectra Electric Stove
The oven portion of the range was turned on and it appeared to heat then began to spark and burn, it looked like a welders torch in terms of color. I had to kill the power to get it to go out.
Additionally, this happened to my neighbor easter weekend with the same appliance as they came with the homes.
Note: After doing some research their are hundreds if not thousands of complaints of the identical issue on complaints.com for this model. If my wife had turned on the oven to let it warm and left the kitchen the entire home could have gone up. I would bet that these stoves have been the cause of numerous house fires.

I went over to visit and I could not understand why my mother kept going up and down the stairs. When i inquired about it, she told me that she was turning off the stove?! She explained to me that on Sunday March 3, 2013 I she had cooked her Sunday dinner (pork chops & red cabbage) in the oven at 350 degrees. She turned off her stove, cleaned her kitchen pans and went out to enjoy the day with her friends. She came back to the smell of food cooking and a very strong odor of hot metal. She aired out everything and proceeded to check everything. It turned out that it was the stove. The stove was on. My mother tried to turn it off but it would not turn off. She proceeded to go downstairs and turned off the breaker! She called GE and they did not seem to care that this was a very dangerous situation and could have caused serious damaged and harm. They simply told her the price of the part! She contacted the recommended service tech and he also confirmed that it was one of the very common things to go on the unit?? So now my mother is going up and down and disconnecting her stove after each uses.

The product, in the report: GE Profile Electric Range
BENZENE and benzene derivatives were being emitted from my GE Electric Profile Range, Model No. PB900DPBB, Serial No. DV243799. A Senior Quality Control Engineer from OEM Solutions, Owens Corning and a Senior Advanced Development Engineer from GE in Louisville, KY both told me that benzene should not have been in my GE Profile Range. Also, toxic fumes that came from the range caused my husband & I to experience burning of our eyes and nose and coughing spells. The toxic odor was on our kitchen cabinets, walls, counters and curtains and had to be washed down to remove the toxic smell. The Owens Corning MSDS sheet lists formaldehyde and acetaldehyde in their insulation and it says these 2 chemicals can cause eye, nose and throat irritation when the oven is in the self-clean cycle. However, given the strong, toxic odors and fumes coming from the oven, these chemicals may have been at abnormally high levels.
I purchased my GE Profile Range from P.C. Richard & Son on February 18, 2011 and it was delivered to my home on April 9, 2011. The Owners Manual that came with the stove instructs you to turn on the self-clean oven cycle for 3 hours and it will give off a burning or oily odor in a new oven that will disappear in time. Also says a strong odor from the insulation around the inside of the oven is normal for the first few times the oven is used and to keep birds in another room when stove is in self-clean to prevent illness or death.
After only 1 minute on the self-clean cycle, a noxious, toxic smell along with greyish white fumes were coming from the back and front of the stove. I immediately turned off the self-clean cycle and called the GE hotline. After 2 calls and almost 2 weeks later a GE technician came out to check the stove (people at the hotline kept telling me to put the stove on self-clean for 3 hours even though I told them the smell was unbearable). On April 21, 2011 the GE technician came out and when he turned the self-clean cycle on, that same toxic odor along with the greyish white fumes came out of the back and front of the stove. He immediately turned the stove off and said he never smelled anything so bad in his 20+ years of servicing stoves.
The range was removed from my home on April 22, 2011 and taken to the P.C. Richard & Son Warehouse in Carteret, NJ. On June 16, 2011 a certified fire inspector hired by GE came to that warehouse and took a SUMA Canister air quality test on my stove. My husband and I were present during the air testing and ensuing examination of the insulation, which was removed from the stove that day. The GE Profile Range is now at GE Appliances in Louisville, KY, supposedly undergoing further inspection. The range has been there since September 2012 and I still have not gotten a definitive answer as to why BENZENE was in my stove or why these toxic fumes were being emitted.
Under separate cover, I am emailing CPSC (1) detailed information from the people I spoke with in the past 22 months concerning this toxic odor, (2) a copy of the air quality test results done at EMSL Analytical, Inc., (3) photographs of the insulation and stove, and (4) other pertinent information.

The product, in the report: General Electric Electric Range/Oven JTP25S0H6SS
The consumer stated that the oven self cleaning mode malfunctions which causes the oven to be extremely hot externally. He has taken the oven apart being a professional and discovered that the firm had not built the internal connections properly, which would allow the oven to stay cool external while it is operating in that mode. He has to stop the self cleaning functions while it is operating to prevent a fire. He has had to stop using this mode. This incident has been occurring since installation.
The consumer has contacted the firm on several occasions over the years about the problem and they have not assist him.
The self-cleaning feature worked only one (1) time. The next time consumer’s wife tried to use it they heard a loud constant noise. The consumer stopped the self-cleaning feature. A repairman was called and he put on a new fan assy (for cooling the exterior of the oven?) He did not stay to put the oven thru the self-cleaning feature. It made the same noise again and was stopped. (Self-clean disengaged) The consumer pulled oven out and discovered that as oven heated during self-clean the fan expanded and moved down the shaft striking the screen in rear. Cheap fan should not be a press fit on shaft. If you do not turn self-clean off fan would engage screen, stop, and oven would overheat.
Descriptioin of fire danger! (Drawing) point to back of oven, point to wire screen, point to plastic fan and bushing.

The unsafe product is a GE electric range, model # J BS07 M1WW serial # HV124830P
I was braising a pork roast on low on one of the larger burners. I set the temperature dial at “2” (dial options are Lo, 1-9, Hi) to maintain a slow simmer. Two hours later, the pot suddenly started to boil over and the entire burner was glowing red-hot. The dial was still set to “2.”
Later the same day, I turned the burner back on to see if the same problem occurred. It did, but not immediately. The burner seems to work normally for awhile and then turns itself on fully without human intervention.
I believe that this malfunction is “unsafe” and a fire hazard.

It has a self-cleaning oven so it is made to reach a high temperature to clean properly. It can also be programmed to turn on and off by itself. I bought this new.
After turning on the oven, the heating element sparked, flamed and caught on fire. I immediately turned the oven off and in about10-15 seconds the fire went out. After it cooled, I noticed the heating element split in two and there was white residue on the oven. Also the heating element looked like it had bubbled up or blistered from the fire.

It is only a year old and the warranty ran out two days ago.
Nothing touched it and it was the same temperature it always is in my home. The oven nor range was on. Nothing touched it.
I took me two and half hours to clean it all up.
I was lucky that no one was near the oven when it happened.

The product, in the report: stainless steel GE profile oven The number to add is JB988SOK6SS .
My issue is with a General Electric Profile electric convection oven, purchased in late 2008.
When cooking something that gives off steam in the oven, the oven and stove control panel stops responding to keypresses. The oven and stove tops continue to heat away at their previous settings, but the oven can’t be controlled by its control panel. It requires a shutoff at the circuit breaker panel to shut off the stove.
I’m only describing the last time it happened. I’ve had the control panel circuit board replaced and will have it replaced again, but it has happened four times in the past five years: every time, there is something releasing steam in the oven.
Clearly I have to control the oven from the power source and abandon monitoring the cooking.

Consumer stated that while she was pre-heating the oven at 350 degrees for approximately 10 mins, she heard a noise like a broken picture glass frame and then discovered that the oven glass door had exploded and shattered into several peices on the floor.
11/4/11 Consumer contacted the manufacturer and was advised that a service rep would be sent out on 11/7/11. The rep came out and advised that she needed to get a replacement oven door but didnot explain why the door exploded.
Consumer is concerned that this oven door even replaced is very dangerous, she has small chill and it poses an unsafe environment for them as well. The retailer and herself have been trying to contact the manufacturer since then about this incident but have not received any response.
Consumer feels that this oven door is a safety hazard and should be reported.
GE did send consumer a new oven, but why did first one explode, where glass blew out all over? They didn’t test the oven, they just replaced it.

The product, in the report: Electric Stove with double oven
GE Electric Range, model #JPB89SM2SS, Burner knob in off position, range stayed on. Found knob was made completely of plastic with no metal reinforcement where shaft entered knob. This is a burn and fire risk as the stove can be on even when the knob is in the off position.

The product, in the report: New Electric range, residential type
Standard features are extremely dangerous. New installation of a General Electric Hotpoint residential kitchen cooking stove, model RB526D PWW, there is a high tendancy to accidentally turn on the oven. The temperature dial can easily be rotated by brushing against it which silently starts the oven heating. In this case, the installation booklet cought fire and resulted in an employee being burned.

The product, in the report: Electric Residential Stove/Oven
failure of the electric Stove/Oven caused an apartment fire. Investigator partially remove the back panel of the stove revealing a wiring bundle approximately 4 inches from the top back that had substantial fire/heat damage consistent with an arching event. The fire/heat progressed to nearby combustibles: wiring insulation, top plastic components and light metals of the stove control panel, out the back of the stove to the paneling that was likely touching or very near the back of the stove. a smoke detector on the main level was not installed. the fire progressed to the cabinets to the south of the stove and contents on the counter top on the south. 6 residents, 4 adults & 2 kids, were in the aparment at time of the fire. 21 yof was hospitalized.

The product, in the report: Spectra Freestanding Range Top
Noticed, during use, a bright, uneven heat intensity level on the left side of the lower heating element in the oven. The spot continued to heat up and began emitting a white, hot spark and flaming. Turned off oven with switch/knob control. The oven continued to draw current to the baking element after the oven was turned off. Pulled oven away from wall and disconnected the power plug. Heating element finally acted as if no electricity was flowing through it and sparking/flaming/arcing ceased. Once unplugged, the sparking immediately ceased. The major concern for me is not just that the element failed - that could happen over time - but that when a heating element failure occurs the oven continues to draw current despite switch/knob in ‘off’ position. This is not model specific, as, based on other recent reports to this site, many other GE or Spectra ‘models’ also are exhibiting this potentially unsafe design behavior. GE has not recalled the specific model we have (JBP24W) but they have recalled JBP21W. Was their recall not thorough enough?

The product, in the report: Self Cleaning Electric Coil Range GE JBP24WOH2WW
The home we built and occupied on October 10, 2004 was furnished with a GE JBPWOH2WW electric range. About 2 years ago the upper element in the oven left a white powder after it burned. We had this element replaced. This week my wife was preheating the oven and heard a sizzling sound and looked down and found the bottom of the oven on fire. The fire grew around the coil. She closed the door and turned off the electricity. I had heard of this problem before and felt this report necessary to expose the potential for property damage and risk to life. I was doubly driven to do this as one of my children has a similar GE range of the same series that was installed in a home they built a few years before us. They had a fire exactly the same but more intense in March where they had the fire department responds as it was more stubborn to extinguish. In both ours and their case we felt it prudent not to attempt to fix but replace these products in the interest of safety considering it a possible design flaw or substandard part. The oven is cleaned frequently and no spills are left to build up in our effort to operate this product in a safe manner. FYI: in information below we have had problems with other GE products installed at construction and the manufacture has stonewalled in these instances so I feel it would be not productive in attempting to fight with them. Additionally we do not have room for storage in our condo so it was hauled away by Lowes - I do have picture.

The product, in the report: General electric oven, model number JBP24B0B4WH
I have a GE Oven, and after only a couple years, the burner elements all stopped working. I have had to replace them a couple times, and I realize the wiring underneath is MELTING or BURNING OUT! Of course that needs to be replaced as well.
I have by now invested in so many new parts, and I need to REINVEST because the burners I bought a year or so ago are not working again!
This oven is not good to own, I feel it is a danger.
I think it should be recalled. I have called GE and they do nothing. They sent a man out but he was not allowed to replace the parts unless I paid for them. I got a better price if I replaced them myself.
I also have made a copy of a webpage where other people have experienced the same thing. The wiring melts !
Here is the webpage. http://www.partselect.com/PS783534-GE-WB17T10006-Surface-Burner-Terminal-Block-Kit.htm?SourceCode=1&ModelNum=JBP24BB4WH

The product, in the report: Stove
Stove burner was set on ‘low’ setting to simmer a pot. Burner control system failed causing much power to go to burner. Burner and stove top became very hot. Heat intensity was enough to damage a heavy aluminum pot and discolor paint on the stove control unit.
Power was cut to the stove at the circuit breaker. Stove cooled.
After stove cooled to room temperature, it was noted that the ‘hot top’ indicator light stayed on and would not turn off.
No fire or injuries were caused by this incident. Burner has not been used since this incident.
Stove was examined for alphanumeric model and serial number information. None was readily visible.
