No incident, no one hurt Made Jun 12, 2026, sent to the company Jun 22, 2026, published by CPSC Jul 8, 2026
The product, in the report: This is a GE stove profile, electric
We purchased a GE stove from Lowes in May 18 2026, product number PRF700AYFS. Serial number GD1961132Q. Within a week it felt like when we used the high low and medium settings, on the front burner, the low and medium seemed to be running rather high..Within a few days, the low and medium settings would not respond whatsoever to a low and medium directive, But went directly to extremely high. bypassing the directions altogether, jumping immediately to the highest heat, and I think its even beyond the high setting as it looks like theres actual steam coming out of the top of the stove. The lowest setting seems to surpass even a normal high temperature. Seeing as it has an uncontrollable temperature setting, we felt that it presented a potential fire hazard, and we called Lowes. They told us to call GE because it was outside of Lowes 48 hour return policy but well within 30 days of purchase. GE told Lowes to get an RA number from it. But Lowes then called us and told us they would not be getting an RA number until a GE tech was sent out to our home in order to inspect the machine, and we needed to get this stove out of the house because we felt it poses a potentially serious liability Now we have to wait a full week for GE to actually send a check out, get back to Lowes on their answer, and finally decide what to do So we are consequently sitting with a product that arrived defected and potentially very dangerous. We are absolutely caught between GE policy and low policy, with a fire hazard in our home.
In purchasing this. Lowes literature states that it has a strict 48 hour return policy unless theres a dangerous defect in the product.. I would not have bought this stove at Lowes If I didn’t think I could return it at once if there was a fire hazard involved. I wouldve bought the store elsewhere, but Lowes literature clearly states that it can bypass the 48 hour return policy if there is a dangerous problem. instead of doing this, Lowes is making us take days of back and forth discussions and waiting just to get somebody to pick up and get this stove out of here as we feel it poses an imminent potential safety hazard to our home and our grandchildren.
( ive spoken to numerous different people there, and probably logged in 20 phone calls back-and-forth lowes has this conversational footprint for all of it. At this point, we are waiting for a GE tech to come to us in five days after having spoken to them three days ago, so its going into the second week of waiting to have this stove removed. Lowes says that once the tech looks at the stove, he may want to fix it, or he may want to generate an RA so we can return it. But I do not feel I should be stuck with a stove that arrived dangerous, and defected. I think Lowes should be taking the stove back considering the liability and its statement that it will bypass its 48 hour return policy if theres a dangerous product defect. I just wanted to get this on record so other consumers would be aware that this stove may have a serious safety issue that people might be unaware of, and I think people should know about it in order to protect themselves and be aware as this defect could pose a serious liability to unknowing consumers

No incident, no one hurt Made Apr 16, 2026, sent to the company Apr 20, 2026, published by CPSC May 4, 2026
The product, in the report: GE 30 in. Smart Double Electric Wall Oven with Self Clean in Stainless Steel
GE Double Oven Glass Door Shattered During First .I am submitting this report to document a serious safety incident involving a newly purchased GE double oven. The appliance was purchased online on 3/28/26 from Home Depot website and delivered on April 1, 2026. It was installed on April 2, 2026, and first used on April 5, 2026. During the very first use, within approximately one hour of normal operation, the glass door on the lower oven suddenly shattered without any impact or misuse. The oven was being used in a standard manner at normal cooking temperature when the incident occurred. This resulted in glass breaking unexpectedly, creating a dangerous situation with the potential for serious injury. Fortunately, no one was physically harmed, but the incident posed a clear safety hazard. The product was brand new and had only been in use for a few days at the time of failure. This was not related to delivery damage or improper installation. I contacted GE Appliances to report the issue. However, they declined to take responsibility for a replacement and only offered to repair the door. Given the nature of the failure specifically, spontaneous glass shattering during normal use I am concerned that this may indicate a product defect or broader safety issue. I am submitting this complaint so that this incident is formally documented and investigated, as this type of failure could present a serious risk to consumers.

The product, in the report: GE Appliances 30-inch freestanding electric range with ceramic-glass cooktop (radiant elements), stainless steel finish. Product name: GE 30 in. 4 Burner Element Free-Standing Electric Range in Stainless Steel w/Stainless Knobs. Glass cooktop shattered/cracked. Purchased new.
On January 29, 2026, the ceramic-glass cooktop on our GE freestanding electric range shattered/cracked and broke during household use after a pot lid was placed on the cooktop surface. The product is a GE 30-inch freestanding electric range with a glass cooktop (model GRF40HSVSS, serial TA123071Q). The cooktop is now shattered with loose glass debris and exposed components beneath the surface. We consider the unit unsafe and have stopped using it (power turned off).
No one was injured, but there was a risk of cuts from shattered glass and potential hazard if the range were operated in this condition. Photos of the damage are available.

The product, in the report: Stovetop is GE 30 inch Radiant 4 burnerJP3530TJ4WW and it is a white glasstop.
This is a Cooktop and is a GE 30 inch Radiant 4 burner JP3530TJ4WW. Burner goes to maximum heat regardless of where the knob is pointing and cannot be controlled until I turn it off. This is the same behavior I had with a previous GE Glasstop that got recalled. It is related to the burner control. Burner is used to cook food in pots and pans. This initially almost started a fire as we were preparing food to cook. Now we do not take our eyes off that burner.

The product, in the report: Freestanding/Slide-In &Drop-In Electric Range
(09/22/2025) The consumer and his wife were cooking a roast in their GE oven and after she saw it was done, she removed the roast from the oven and sat it down to cool. They both proceeded with eating dinner, and they heard a loud bang. When they went into their kitchen, he saw the front glass of the oven shattered into hundreds of pieces on the floor. He says glass flew across the floor about 12feet. No one was injured, but he wanted to report it. The consumer called GE, but they are not doing much about it. He stated that they would allow up to $125 which would be used for a repairman to come out and look at it. He feels that he should not have to pay for someone to come out and look. If he has to pay a service charge, then he would like it reimbursed or a replacement range.

The outer glass of our GE Profile oven has fallen off leaving a very dangerous situation. There’s no frame. It was simply glued/taped at the bottom and held in place by the upper handle. The oven was bought new in 2016. This is truly a dangerous design flaw in these ovens leaving the hot inner glass exposed.

The product, in the report: 30” Slide-In Electric Convection Range - White with Black glass top burners
GE Stove JS760DPWW Slide In Electric Stove - Purchased at Lowes, Westland, Michigan. Have experienced a fire in the oven, burners and oven temperatures abnormally overheating, one burner arced spewing food all over the kitchen, stove blew a fuse, Power Cord, purchased from Lowes and installed by Lowes installers was not screwed in completely, damaged the screw with the terminal box melting over the screw at the rear of the stove. This stove has a dangerous tip hazard recall which the installers did not install fixture, and 47 fires that have been documented by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, including overheating of wiring, posing a fire and burn hazard and a tip hazard. Was not advised of the recall or the fires or hazards, when purchasing the stove, Lowes refuses to take responsibility in replacing the stove which I deem extremely dangerous and the manufacturer, GE, also refuses to replace the stove even though I as the customer was willing to accept a lesser priced stove. I paid $1,000.00 for the stove. I am 74 and am totally frightened to even have this stove in my home for fear of it starting a fire and doing damage to my home. Both companies have failed to take responsibility and Lowes misrepresented the stove by not being honest that the stove has dangerous defects. I feel Lowes demonstrated predatory tactics just to make a sale . . not telling about issues doesn’t give them a pass, it’s still lying. I would appreciate your intervening on my behalf to get some kind of relief or resolution, thank you. [REDACTED]

Knob design on new deeper ge ranges protrude well beyond front of oven. Though you must depress the knob to rotate it, anyone brushing against or leaning on knobs easily depresses and rotates knob to turn on burner surface. This has happened 6-8 times in the first 4-6 weeks of use my household. This is a fire hazard if a skillet with grease is on the stove.

2/24/2024: The consumer used the self cleaning feature and the oven defaulted to 5 hours. She opened the door afterwards and there was an explosion with the oven. Metallic luster, which was actually the oven’s enamel coating, came off the oven cavity and the oven door. The particle’s ranged in diameter between the size of a nickel – a quarter, and as small as dust particles. The consumer has been in communication with the company for over a month now, but they have not resolved the issue or taken responsibility for it. She searched online and said she saw other reports similar to this.
(2/29/2024); The manufacturer’s technician came out and said he had never seen anything like this before. The particles ranged in diameter between the size of a nickel to a quarter, and as small as dust particles. The manufacturer indicated they would not cover repair costs or replace the oven.
3/26/2024: Another authorized manufacturer’s technician came out and called the manufacturer, while there. The rep. that they spoke with said this was no acceptable. The firm sent the consumer a check for $75 toward food assistance, but she did not cash it, because it does not address the safety issue. She has 3 different manufacturer’s case numbers: • [REDACTED] (For the tech. that came out on 2/29/2024) • [REDACTED] • [REDACTED] There had not been any prior incidents with the product. She is also concerned about any after-effects that may occur.

The product, in the report: GE Free-Standing Electric Glass Top Range
We purchased a new construction home last year and moved in at the beginning of June 2022, the builder included GE appliances. After a few months of using the electric GE range my wife noticed that the front outer most edge of the glass top was getting extremely hot, which she found that odd, since we other similar electric ranges before and has never run into that issue. Since we have two small kids in the house and that area of the range is easily accessible to them, we reported the issue to GE and they sent a third-party tech to inspect the unit, the third party tech said that they didn’t see any issues and that the overheating of that area was normal that he has seem that same issue in other GE similar models, the issues is most likely a lack of insulation in that area of the range. But we contact GE again because we were worried for our kids and our own safety and not satisfied with the resolution giving by the third party tech. GE sent one of their own tech to check the unit and the GE tech twice and the person mentioned that there was nothing that he could repair to fix that that we will have to talk to GE customer relations to see if they can replace the unit, of course customer relations said that they can replace the unit, because the tech didn’t find anything wrong with it, all they could do is offer us a discount to purchase a different range, which of course we declined, because this is a new range and clearly is defective. We hired a private home inspector to perform a full home inspection before our new home warranty expires at the end of this month, and during the inspection my wife happened to be using the range and we mentioned to the inspector the range issue that we have been facing, since he is certified in infrared (thermal) testing and had the equipment with him, he was able to capture the temperature of the are in question and the machine was reading 210 degrees Fahrenheit, which he noted in his report that this appliance should not be used until fix or replace, because of the potential burn hazards. We contacted GE with this information, and they are sending another technician out to inspect the unit again, and they asked me to send them copies of the inspector report, but at this point I feel like GE will most likely just give me the run around again, since I have been reporting this issue since October of 2022, and the 3 times a GE tech has come to check the unit, not once they have used any device to measure how hot the range is getting in the area in question. My other concern is that this same range model was installed in many other houses in the community that were build at the same time and after mine.

The front right coil (large one), jumps to the highest setting, regardless of what temperature it is turned to.
She has noticed the problem more than 3 times.
The range has never been serviced in the past.
She sent an email to the manufacturer and reported the problem to them. She received an email back from them, indicating that the company had been purchased by another company and referred her to G.E. Appliances. The consumer interpreted this as a run-around. The email also indicated that G.E. is now a Haier Company and no longer affiliated with G.E.
The consumer plans to remove the knob, so she doesn’t use that coil any more.
[REDACTED]
Therefore, she has a heightened concern since the problem is identical with 2 different brands of ranges.

The product, in the report: GE 30” Free-Standing Electric Double Oven Convection Range
I’ve a GE free standing electric range w/ a glass top at my apartment. This model of stove has a hot cooktop indicator light on the surface so when it’s still “hot” to the touch it is illuminated. I went to clean some flour off of the top surface of a burner, after using the stove ~20+ minutes prior, and despite the hot cooktop light being off I sustained 2nd degree burns on my right hand. After speaking with my primary care physician I was requested to visit the ER at my local hospital where I was treated for first and second degree burns. I was referred for an additional appointment the following day with the hospitals wound clinic. As an engineer the fact that someone could be burned this severely while the hot cooktop indicator is off is appalling. After doing some research I found that the user manual of the stove calls out that the hot cooktop indicator turns off at ~150F. [REDACTED] states that 1st degree burns can occur at 118F and that 2nd degree burns occur at temperatures of 131F. The fact that GE has designed their stove with a hot cooktop indicator that shuts off at 150F is a risk to the public and in my opinion demonstrates negligence on the part of GE. Burn risks could easily be limited by using a sensor in the stove that turns off below the threshold for injury. The GE appliance is Model JB860EJ3ES.

I investigated a fire last night involving a General Electric Spectra stove. The occupant was using the oven for approximately 30 minutes, then turned it to broil. Shortly after, the fire was seen coming from under the digital display area and from the rear of the stove near the top. The investigation found fire damage to the electrical components behind the digital control panel. (See photos)

The product, in the report: GE electric Range, model #JS750EF3ES, gray/black, 30” wide, purchased 12/2018
We purchased a GE oven, Model #JS750EF3ES, in December, 2018. This morning while running the broiler, my wife heard a loud banging sound from the range after it had been on for about 2-3 minutes. She opened the oven door and the inner glass in the oven window had exploded and shattered. Fortunately the window did not explode while opening the door. Glass shards could have gone into her eyes. I have researched this on the internet and have found several cases involving shattering glass in oven doors. In some cases the outside glass had shattered.

The product, in the report: General Electric Oven Range Model JGB735EP1ES
The consumer indicates that the oven range’s touchscreen would not work properly on warmer days. At times it would not turn on, and features like the timer or light would not do so either. The consumer contacted the retailer under his warranty and explained the situation; a Service Technician inspected the unit and noticed that the issue was due to the touchscreen. A new touchscreen was ordered to be installed.
Before the new touchscreen was installed, the consumer was using the oven portion and after approximately an hour later after he turned if off, the oven turned on spontaneously. The consumer watched it to see what would happen but after five minutes, the unit turned off by itself.
The Service Technician installed the new touchscreen and the unit appears to now work properly.
The consumer states that, prior to the incident, the cooktop was used two to three times daily whereas the oven was used once daily.
The consumer plans on keeping his oven range for at least the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

The product, in the report: General Electric electric stove. 30 inch, 5.0 cu. ft. White
Purchased a GE electric stove from Home Depot 11.04.2020. After delivery I used the oven for 35 minutes at 350 degrees. Heat poured out of the oven door. All parts of the stove: top surface including burners, oven door and sides of stove were untouchable. I did burn my right wrist and hand when I removed the casserole and accidently touched the top surface. I unplugged the product and have not used it since. GE says this is “normal” and the manual states not to touch the top when using the oven. I called Home Depot and they said I had “buyers remorse” and they couldn’t help me. GE has sent the same repairman twice. The 2nd time he removed the inside of the oven door and installed insulation (there is no insulation in the stove anywhere). He put the door back on and it now hangs crooked. He heated the oven to 350 degrees. The top remains burning hot. He placed a meter on the surface to measure the temperature. It shows 153 degrees. Once again, he says GE says this is normal and not to touch the stove when the oven is in use. The entire house heats up because of the heat coming from the oven door. Air conditioner runs constantly when stove was turned on. The stove is a safety hazard. Anyone with small children or elderly can suffer burns much worse than what I did on my 1st use. I am 69 years old and know not to touch hot objects but could accidently get burned again or cause a fire if anything is set on the stove.

10/1/2020: The consumer’s wife noticed something wrong with the cooktop. It wasn’t turning off properly.
10/17/2020: The second or third time that she brought this to his attention, this incident occurred. The consumer looked at the range and found that it was emitting smoke from underneath the control panel and the warning lights for the burners were on, indicating that they were extremely hot. The 2 burners that were demonstrating this issue had not even been used on that day.
The consumer tried turning off the range, but the control knobs would not work. Next, the consumer tripped the breaker.
The consumer will contact the manufacturer and report it to them today.
There were no injuries and the product did not appear to be listed on any CPSC recalls.

The product, in the report: GE Flat top Electric Stove
Electric GE stove: For sometime, I would notice a slight haze in my kitchen shortly after I used either the burners or oven but never really thought anything about it since there wasn’t an odor or noticeably impact my health. Over time, even not using the stove, either the burners or oven, I noticed the toxins became unbearable-burned my eyes, nasal passages, throat, difficulty breathing, light headed and as though I was going to pass out. I couldn’t smell any odor but the chemicals that were released were very strong. One of my pets was also horribly impacted by the chemicals. I didn’t realize the toxins were being released from my stove until today when the “haze” was very thick and the chemicals were unbearable and immediately effected me. Even opening the windows with a fan on in 95+ heat didn’t help the toxins to dissipate from the air. I actually have had to leave my house on several occasions for an extended period of time, leaving my animals behind, to feel somewhat better. This has been going on for sometime, never thought it was from an electric stove, but now I can confirm the connection between my immediate response to my health issues and the stove. I work remotely due to Covid and this issue is negatively effecting my health and ability to work because I immediately feel sick.

The product, in the report: GE freestanding electric range Model JBS60DF3BB
Our General Electric electric range, just five years old, randomly shattered its entire front pane of glass. It was simply pre-heated to 375 degrees, and had no prior damage. One of the burners was also on, we were boiling water for spaghetti and meatballs. The front door’s glass without warning exploded four feet out into our kitchen toward my wife, who was standing nearby. As tempered glass, it should have all been small pieces, but some were almost the size of my hand. What if someone had been standing in front of the oven looking in at the time? Would they be blind now? GE claims no responsibility, they say that it is rare but is a known issue with all ovens. So we not only got traumatized by exploding glass, we get to clean it up and buy a whole new non-GE oven now.

The product, in the report: Electric range with oven
The consumer’s daughter was using one of the back burners on the range, when it caught fire. The fire was behind the stove. The daughter was able to turn the burner off. There were no injuries.
3/2020: The consumer called the retailer and reported the matter to their rep. The rep. advised the consumer contact the distributor, who is also the manufacturer. The manufacturer arranged for a technician to come out and examine the range/oven approximately 2 days after the incident.
The tech. that came out wrote down the model and serial number, but he did not work on it. The consumer said that nothing was wrong with it and that the problem was simply related to the wires. The consumer questioned how he determined that without looking at the back of the unit. Nothing else transpired.
The consumer followed up with the mfr. and asked for a new range/oven. Their rep. said that they would have to send a tech out to see if it could be fixed. The consumer said that they had already done that and the tech. did not work on it. Also she noted that she no longer felt safe using the range. The rep. said if they could fix it and is what they will offer her.
The consumer noted that the range is still under warranty and she was even willing to pay the difference on a new range if there was a price difference.
The consumer spoke with a rep. at the distribution center said if it could be repaired that would be their choice. The consumer said she still didn’t want it.

I tell him that is a poor excuse for an inferior product as the kitchen is original to when it was built in 1962 as I am the original owner. I request a copy of the report submitted and I am refused a report. 1/30/20 - I follow up with GE to see when they will replace my cook top and I am told that they will not replace the cooktop because the report received indicated that the kitchen surface is uneven. I tell GE that it is an unjustified report as the tech did not have a level and the kitchen is original as to when it was built and an excuse for not honoring the warranty. I tell them to send me their response in writing as I will report this to consumer affairs. She emails me the response. I tell her in all fairness I would like another visit so that another tech could confirm this. I am placed on a 15 hold at which time she tells me that the cooktop glass part will be replaced. 2/3/20 - I receive the glass cooktop [REDACTED] 2/4/20 - GE Tech install replace glass on cooktop just as the previous cooktop is installed and makes no reference to any uneven surface. 2/7/20 - Today I am filing a report as i worry that this may happen again and I fear getting hurt. I would like the consumers to be aware of this danger. I would also like GE to compensate me for this cooktop and the installation cost so that I can replace this with a convention non glass cooktop. I purchased this type because it was the only type sold by HomeDepot where I purchased my dishwasher on the same day.

The product, in the report: GE Electric Range
Model: JB250DF5WW Serial #: GH238579Q
This product is defective. The problem occurred before the warranty expired, but it was dismissed as a one or two time event. It is a very noisy range in use – surging. Since then, the problem has progressively gotten much worse.
This is the problem. The burner switch, larger burner, is set to 4. The electric coil / burner flares to high, high heat and turns bright red. Food, if not removed from the burner, would burn quickly. This occurs on all burners. It’s less frequent on the smaller burners which are used less. Pan size appears to be irrelevant.
This problem is escalating and presents a fire hazard. As conscientious cooks, we never leave the range unattended as the burner may flare at any time. The range is used everyday, and we must use lower and lower temps. In fact, items will boil even when burner is set to low / 1. This is clearly unacceptable and a defective product. GE is responsible for this.

We have owned a G.E. electric slide-in range (Model: JSP42DN3WW Serial: RT249281Q) since 2010. This was purchased and installed by Sears. On Sept 8, 2019 with no warning the front glass panel of the oven slid off and shattered in the floor (I have pictures). The oven had been in use about an hour prior and had cooled down. Had someone been standing near the range, the shattered glass could have cut them, or the panel could have fallen on their feet. This range has had other issues from almost the beginning. At least twice we witnessed burners turning on by themselves. In addition, on many occasions when the oven was in use, the “lock oven” feature would activate locking the food inside. Vacuuming the vents helped prevent this malfunction, however it was an ongoing problem any time we tried to bake anything over 400 degrees F.

I have had this General Electric Range for about 6 years, brand new from building this home. A few days ago I had put some fries in the oven to bake as I normally would, set the timer and went to the living room with my infant. About 10 minutes into cooking, I noticed bright orange flashing from the kitchen (I can see my stove top from the couch) so I put the baby down and rushed to the kitchen where the oven was shooting out bright orange sparks/flames. The coil at the bottom had shattered into 3 pieces and was shooting electric sparks from the open ends of the remaining connected pieces. If I had not seen the incident, it could’ve gotten worse, or it could’ve just shut down, I’m not sure, but I did want to warn anyone else with this model, in case of a reoccurring issue.

The product is a General Electric brand electric range, model number JB655SKSS. There is some kind of vent that comes out just underneath the control panel on the range. You can’t see this vent unless you bend over to look underneath the control panel, and as I was cleaning under the control panel with a cloth, the edge of the vent opening, which is very sharp metal, sliced open the top of my right ring finger, just at the knuckle. This is a very dangerous design.

The product, in the report: General Electric 30 “ electric coil top range with convection oven white in color
While cooking supper, a pot (stainless steel) containing water and potatoes placed on the front element of our GE electric range (coil top) was ruined from the element exploding. The element was blown apart which caused a very large white and blue flash with a horrifying bang. Small metal fragments were sprayed around and also melted to the pot and drip pan under the element. This is now the second time this has occurred! ( within six mouths of purchase and now 8 years later) We contacted the dealer the first time this occurred ( Sears Canada) as the stove was under warranty, and a service person attended and claimed this to be a normal occurrence. He then replaced not only the element, but also the block terminal and a sensor. This doesn’t sound like a normal occurrence to me!
My concerns are for the clear potential of injury from flying metal and also the potential of electrical shock if a hand was in contact with the pot when this occurs. The flash from the explosion could be compared to the arc flash of a welder which is blinding as well. This has been reported before by other consumers as well!

Called GE and all they said was it is not on a recall and hung up on me. I do not want others to be hurt by this defective and dangerous product. I am going to destroy it so no one else will use it.

Bought a new Ge Stove delivered on 3-22-2018. Put it on and noticed a nasty smell. I figured it was just the newness. Next day put it on at 450. Very toxic smell. Unbearable!!!. Caused headache, watery eyes, numbness on tongue and lips. Called store we bought it from they came to look at it. Noticed the insulation was not white but a brownish color..they recommended doing a self clean cycle. We opened all windows and did that. This was HORRIBLE. thank god we stayed outside all day in fact till 9 pm. Still caused numbness on tongue , lips, horrific headache. Had to sleep with all windows open. Had to wash all curtains and walls. I am still having breathing issues and was put on an inhaler of which I have NEVER had to use before. Tried getting info from ge, no luck. They were only concerned that this oven was replaced with a new one. They told the store we bought it from to bring us a new one and scrap the one we first got. Well what I’m concerned with is what the hell was I breathing to cause this. I’ve noticed on line alot if people with complaints of these toxic fumes. Not sure how these companies are allowed to sell such products. Very scary situation. We kept a piece of the isolation and as far as I know the appliance store was holding onto this stove for awhile as things didn’t seem right to them either.

DETAILS ---- I recently put a pot of water on my glass GE stove top and stepped into the doorway of the adjacent room. About 2 minutes later I heard this deafening boom. I turned toward the kitchen and the entire stovetop had exploded and sent shards of glass, some of them 6 inches long, across the kitchen and into the dining room, up to 20 feet away. I had my back toward the oven and I received small lacerations to my legs and feet. Had my granddaughter been in the kitchen at the time, it would have seriously maimed her or could have killed her outright. After contacting the GE chat line, I was told I had a ten minute wait time. I was number 1 in the queue. After waiting 35 minutes, GE canceled my chat. Apparently they do not wish to discuss this problem. My next stove top will definitely not be a General Electric product. After reading the testimonials of others, I realized that mine was not an isolated incident. This stove was a top end Profile series product. It had been impeccably maintained.

The product, in the report: GE self-standing 30” electric range with ceramic cook top and convection oven
We moved into a new condo six weeks ago. It came with all new GE appliances. The range is a electric ceramic top model with a 12” burner on the front right of the cook top (GE Model: JB700EJ2ES, Serial No.: AH272460Q).
We were boiling some water to cook some corn on the cob. After about 15-20 minutes at the highest setting (boiling water and cooking the corn), the metal front that wraps down from the ceramic top to the oven door (see attached picture) became very hot - so hot you could not touch it for even a second. My wife actually burned her stomach reaching into the microwave over the stove. I called GE and the technician came out. It was his conclusion that it was normal operation. He called some engineer who said that on a 36” high stove, the temperature is allowed to reach 191 degrees. I know with water heaters, 120 degrees at the point of use will scald a person. The technician did lift the cook top and said everything was connected properly. There was no insulation between the burner and the metal front that was getting hot.
It is hard for me to believe that an area of a range, not involved with the heating or cooking of food, is allowed to get so hot that a significant burn could occur with a mere touch.

I have a GE electric range, about 4 years old. The hot surface light does not turn off, which has just occurred over the past few days. I am not sure if this is a safety issue or not, or something which may point to something more severe (my thoughts go to a defective burner which could potentially cause a fire). I tried contacting GE about it, but they want to charge me an unknown labor amount (the GE representative told me she could not give me a labor rate, until after a $100 service call). I advised her that before I moved forward with anything, I was contacting CPSC. She did not comment on same, and only noted the above. I’m not sure if this is an issue that you are aware of, and I am concerned about the safety of the product, (and hence my family,) that I purchased brand new.

We have a new ge stove that came with the new condo. It’s really a nice stove. Unfortunately the low temperature on the stove is not low. It’s more of a medium high. If you are trying to cook a sauce on low, you will burn the sauce as well as the pan. Unfortunately when I lifted the lid the sauce was boiling and splashed onto my index finger, burning my finger. This also happened to my wife, however she did not burn herself. Low temperature dial is not a low and am concerned that others may experience the same. I hope this will help prevent further issues.

The GE Freestanding oven almost caught fire. I came home and the oven had come on by itself. It smelled like it was on fire and was too hot to touch, The wiring on the back was melted and burning. The wall behind the stove had started getting black spots from the heat. The cabinets around it were too hot to touch. Flipped the breaker off to get the stove to turn off and unplugged the stove. It made a spark and heard a loud pop when I unplugged it. Got an oven mit and pulled the stove out of the space by the handle. Put fans on everything to make everything cool down. It would have been a fire at any minute if I had not come home in time.

My husband and I special ordered a GE double wall oven from Home Depot less than a year ago. Yesterday, I tried to use the self-cleaning feature for the first time. I read the manual, then started the cleaning cycle. Ten minutes into cleaning, I heard a loud POW, almost like fireworks or a small caliber handgun. I walked back into the kitchen to discover the glass in my upper oven exploded inside the oven.
Being “safety glass” it should have broken into pebbles. It didn’t. It broke into sharp shards all over the inside of BOTH ovens (not sure how glass fell into the lower oven, but it surely did!) When I opened the door (after it cooled enough to unlock) to take pictures for warranty issues, shards immediately fell to the floor, imbedding in my linoleum floor like daggers.

The product, in the report: Electric Cook Top
We purchased a General Electric Glass Electric Cooktop. The controls are built in the glass. In order to put the unit on you have to hold a button for 3 seconds and then you can turn on one of the heating elements.
Here is our issue that I believe is extremely dangerous for people that have Cats in their home. My wife got up in the middle of the night in the night to get a glass of water in the Kitchen. She found the Cooktop on and the burner on the highest settings. It melted the bottom of a kitchen cabinet. I believe that if my wife did not get up we would have had a Fire ! We determined that one of our many Cats jumped up on the Cooktop and landed on the safety button and stay there for 3 seconds ( It is very sensitive and takes very little pressure to push ) Then the Cat laid down and put on a burner. Now we have to shut of the circuit breaker to the Cooktop every night. ( In the basement ! )
I just wanted to share this story maybe it would help. Maybe the Manufacturers should warn people that have Cats to use extreme care. Looks like we will dispose of the unit and purchase one that has knobs. WE are contacting an Electrician to find out the feasibility of installing an on off switch under the counter.
That for the time .

In the middle of the night, the glass front of my GE profile slide-in electric range fell off of the front of the oven and shattered and flew all over the kitchen and adjoining family room. This is the 3rd time this has happened since purchasing the oven in October 2009. When the manufacturer was contacted the first time April 2010, they replaced the glass under “warranty”. The second time it happened, November 2012, they told me it was not under warranty. They sent a technician to the house, charged me for the visit to determine that the glass had shattered, and then charged me for the glass panel to be replaced.. Now this is the 3rd time it has shattered. Luckily no one was near it when it happened. The oven was not on and had not been on for the 3 occurrences. The adhesive connecting the glass to the metal oven door appears to be double sided foam tape and is not sufficient to adhere the glass safely.

The product, in the report: GE Profile glass top range.
I am reporting this since it is the third time this has happened with this range. The knobs on this GE range are very sensitive. If I cross something over them they will turn on without any pushing down. The knob is designed so that you are suppose to “push in” then turn. Unfortunately you do not need to push in which means they easily turn on without knowledge. We have had two fires due to this issue and I’m concerned we won’t catch the next one before it escalates. Both times we were placing a box on top of the range while not using the range. This motion of putting something on top of the range turned the knobs on. This has happened twice where the knob goes to “high” and the box ignites. Although putting a box on top of a range is not it’s normal use (as a counter) this is a physical fire hazard and should not happen. The top of our range is glass so the surface is flat. We have inadvertently turned on our range numerous times by bumping it or leaning across it. Twice now we’ve had fire. I believe there should be a “fix” for this with knobs that are more secure. I would happily purchase a replacement to keep us safe.

The product, in the report: GE electric range, Model # JB630DF4WW white, black top, flat surface
I’m writing concerning my GE electric range, model #JB630DF4WW, that was purchased from Home Depot on 04-19-15. I did not purchase the extended warranty offered by Home Depot. I have contacted GE and they are sending someone to check the damage.
On June 30, 2016, I was getting a glass pitcher out of the cabinet adjacent to my range. The pitcher bumped the oven door and immediately the glass front fell to the floor at my feet. The pitcher was not broken, so I know it was a slight bump. Fortunately, I wasn’t injured except for a small cut on my foot. It only required minor first aid. The oven was last used four days prior to this incident. I had never heard of this happening, but when checking on line, it appears this is not an isolated problem.
My concern is that mothers often have small children playing in the kitchen with pots, pans, wooden spoons, toys etc. It seems very possible one of these objects could strike the range door causing the glass to break and injury a child or pet.

This morning around 6:00 a.m., we were awoke by a loud noise. It sounded like a crash or something that fell. My husband got up to go look around to see what it was. When he walked into the kitchen, the front of the glass on the GE kitchen stove was completely blew out. We had not used the stove for 5 days, so the stove was not hot when it happened. This was very worrisome to us, due to if one of us would have been in the kitchen when this happened, injury could have occurred.

I turned my GE wall oven to clean and the interior glass on the oven door broke into seven (7) large, sharp pointy edged pieces. I turned the oven on at 7:00 pm, Tuesday, 04/19/2016, and when I opened it to wipe it clean the following morning the interior glass was in pieces. I have a special needs child who could be seriously injured on this product, not to mention myself!

GE Profile - Electric Stove. Model JP989BK1BB - Serial # TM2 55451Q Bought the stove but didn’t use it right away. As our 20 yr old GE stove stopped working on thanksgiving day. bought this stove. but got the part for our old stove so we used it. moved this one into another room. a couple of yrs later, my mom passed and I got rid of her old 20 yrs + working GE double oven stove and moved the new one into the spot. I barely use the stove as I never cook. I make some tea, fry a little. First the right large rear burner on my GE Profile stove did not shut off but the red light was on. I played with it a bit and turned the know a lot and finally it shut off. Now 6 months to a yr later, my nephew moves in and is cooking with the stove a lot. Same thing with the rear right burner, on with the red light and won’t shut off. he has to unplug it. wait a while, hr or so, and when we plug it back in, it is fine. now the left rear large front burner, stays on low heat but switch is off and no red light. this is more dangerous. it was on all day. I made tea in the am and when I came home at 6 pm it was on. we could not get it to shut off. we unplugged it for a bit and it was still on. we unplugged it over night and it was fine in the am. but I am calling a repair man as this is dangerous.

The product, in the report: White Free Standing DE 30” Electric Range with single oven. Model #J BP46G 52WW Serial # RL238203G
On Saturday, Feb. 13th, 2016, When the GE Freestanding Electric range oven was turned to “Warm” and audible ‘pop’ sounded and the right end of the lower element became increasingly red and hot. The oven was turned off to the click “Off”. and the element was visually noted to decrease in redness and heat. The stove was ignored for about 6-8 minutes but when re-addressed it was noted that the element had re-ignited and was flaming and popping 2/3rds of the way around it’s length. The flames were covering the entire front glass window into the oven. As the oven could not be turned off any more than it had, the main electric switch to the house was shut off. This allowed the power cord to the entire range to be disconnected from the electric receptacle. The GE Range Model #J BP46G 52WW Serial #RL238203G It is assumed that this unit was installed when this patio home was built in 1995. It has had very light use ever sine then.( Approximately 4-6 months a year) Our concern is that there are many similar units that may do this and catch fire even after they are turned Off.

The product, in the report: Household electronic range, convection oven General Electric Cafe series, Model C S980S T5SS, Serial no. HD108903P
We purchased from Sears a GE Cafe electric range, Model C S980S T5SS, Serial no. HD108903P last year. We paid $2,499. It was delivered on Oct. 8 2014, although it was not properly installed until several weeks later.
On Dec. 26 of this year, we put it on self-clean for the minimum, three hours. The inside glass of the door shattered.
Minimum online research revealed that this is a recurring problem:
http://www.selectsmart.com/DISCUSS/read.php?34,834895
http://www.thestar.com/business/2012/07/20/when_ge_glass_oven_door_shatters_who_pays_for_repairs.html
We contacted Sears and a customer representative told us the oven was out of warranty and that we would have to pay for the repair replacement.
This is unacceptable and, thank goodness, was not more serious: The shattering might have ruined a holiday meal, and if the outer glass shattered, might have posed a danger to small children we had staying with us over the holiday.

GE Electric Range - fire, debris and shock hazard. When I turned on a stove top burner in about 5 seconds there was a loud pop as the front panel “burner on” lens flew out of the front panel across the kitchen narrowly missing hitting me followed by sparks flying out of the lens hole. The main circuit tripped at this point. When I tried to reset the breaker a red flash fired out of the same hole and the breaker tripped again. There was some smoke and a burn smell but no subsequent fire.

On 10/9/15 the consumer walked in the kitchen and noticed the oven was “On”. The consumer states the knob was in the “off” position. The consumer notified the security of the apartment building and he notified a maintenance employee who turned the circuit breaker off.
On 10/12/15 the consumer contacted the firm (800-432-2737) and the rep referred her to the Consumer Relations department. The consumer called the Consumer Relations department (800-386-1215) and informed them of the incident (case # 13724471). The consumer provided the rep (name unknown) with the model and serial number. The consumer was told that [REDACTED] was the case manager assigned to her case and [REDACTED] would call her on 10/14/15. The rep also told the consumer that a technician would repair her range on 10/16/15. [REDACTED] called the consumer on 10/14/15 and informed her that a technician is not available and she would call the consumer on 10/16/15 to arrange a date for the repair.
The consumer believes her range poses a fire hazard.
The repair guy came on 10/17/20 and when he turned the circuit breaker back on, the oven broiler lit back up and could not be turned off without turning the circuit breaker off. He then took off a back panel and saw a burnt spot & said the consumer needed a new part. He unplugged the range & told the consumer to leave it unplugged. In looking thru the oven mauel, the consumer saw that it was an automatic oven - meaning, it can be set to turn on & off at certain times. The consumer thinks that part got messed up. On, 10/26/2015, the part arrived. The repair guy is scheduled tomorrow.

The product, in the report: GE freestanding electric range, black with stainless steel, glass cooktop purchased September 2, delivered September 5, 2015.
Brand new electric range/oven used for approximately 12 days was preheated to 350 degrees. I placed my casserole dish and pizza stone with mini pizzas in oven and began washing dishes. Approximately 2-5 minutes later, I heard a very loud smashing sound. When I turned around, I discovered that the interior glass of my oven door had shattered all over the inside of my oven. The glass seemed to have almost exploded, as it reached my casserole dish on the top shelf and was all over the oven, even far in the back. Nothing had touched the glass, nor had anyone been in contact with the oven while it was cooking, the glass broke seemingly for no reason. This was very alarming, as I have young children who could have been seriously injured from the broken glass if I had not been right there to immediately clean it up.

09/03/2014 (Approximate) - The consumer indicates that from the first day she used her range’s oven, she has been having issues with its temperature setting. The consumer sets the temperature to a certain degree but shortly thereafter, the unit either increases or decreases the original temperature it was set to, usually increasing it.
The consumer contacted the manufacturer approximately four or five months later and explained the issue she was having. The representative she spoke to informed her that they would send a Service Technician over. When the Service Technician inspected the unit, he adjusted the screws in the knob.
The consumer tested the unit for about two weeks but the unit was still not malfunctioning. The consumer contacted the manufacturer and another Service Technician inspected her unit. The Service Technician inspected the unit. The consumer informed the Technician that her grandson touched the gap between the faceplate and the top of the door and burned his fingers. This gap is almost an inch wide. There is also a gap on the sides where heat escapes from. The Service Technician informed the consumer that that was the way the oven was designed and, as far as her grandson, that she should keep him away from the oven. The Service Technician made no repairs. The Service Technician informed the consumer that he should call the manufacturer and complain.
08/04/2015 (Approximate) - The consumer contacted the manufacturer and spoke to [REDACTED]. After she informed what had been happening, [REDACTED] suggested they change the knob and the thermostat on the unit. The parts were ordered and the consumer received the parts. [REDACTED] asked the consumer for pictures, which were e-mailed. [REDACTED] offered a discount on the purchase towards a new unit.
The consumer has been trying to contact the manufacturer in order to have the parts they sent her installed on her unit. She has been unable to contact them.
The consumer states that she has ceased use of the unit as of August. The consumer only has issues with the oven; the burners work properly.
The consumer believes the product poses a safety hazard to consumers. The consumer has no other injuries to report.

The is the second time our outside glass on our GE oven exploded sending pieces of glass that covered our kitchen floor. We were not using it, had not bumped it or disturbed it in any way. We heard the explosion and went to see what it was. Our biggest concern is for our two small pets who eat in the kitchen and could have been killed by the flying glass! If that happens, we will file a law suit, and it will be class action since so many people have experienced the same phenomena. Our GE oven Model # P5968T P2CC. The Serial # FV2 418 480. I was wiping down the range with a soft cloth and the knob went limp and fell to the floor. The product, in the report: GE Built-In 30” Single Electric Wall Oven
I was using my GE Electric Range, Model JK5000SF1SS, which was installed Nov 2013. Serial number: RA603845Q I was cooking with my oven at 350°F for 20 minutes, and changed to Low Broil. Within 3 minutes, there was a bright orange flash and flames within the oven. I immediately turned off the oven, but did not open it. There was a lot of smoke coming from the oven. After opening all windows and doors of my house and letting the oven cool, I opened the oven door. There was white residue inside the oven. Upon closer inspection, there were tiny pieces of metal within the oven. The rear right coil was noticeably melted and I have pictures that show the coil had completely disintegrated in one spot. It seems as if during the low broil setting, the metal had become dangerously hot and exploded, starting a fire inside the oven and showering metal. Luckily, no one was hurt.
