No one hurt Made Aug 19, 2026, sent to the company Oct 19, 2026, published by CPSC Nov 2, 2026
The product, in the report: LG REFRIGERATOR
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to place LG Electronics USA, Inc. on formal notice that I am demanding the immediate replacement of my LG refrigerator with a different model due to an unresolved defect that has persisted despite multiple repair attempts. This letter serves as my final effort to resolve this matter before pursuing all remedies available under federal and New Jersey law.
Since purchasing this refrigerator, I have repeatedly observed white particles being dispensed through the ice dispenser. The contamination has caused significant concern regarding the safety of the ice and water consumed by my family. As a consumer, I should not have to question whether a household appliance designed to provide drinking water and ice is introducing unknown particles into food or beverages.
Over an extended period, I have fully cooperated with LG and complied with every troubleshooting step requested. Specifically:
? LG has replaced the refrigerator door containing the ice dispenser. ? My local water utility tested my home’s water supply and confirmed that the water quality meets applicable standards. ? I retained a licensed plumber to inspect and evaluate the refrigerator’s water supply line and tubing. No defects or contamination were identified. ? I have followed all maintenance, flushing, and cleaning procedures recommended by LG. ? Despite these extensive efforts, the refrigerator continues to dispense visible white particles.
These facts strongly indicate that the source of the problem is the refrigerator itself. The repeated failure to correct this condition despite repair efforts has left me with no confidence that this unit can be repaired successfully.
I have invested substantial time away from work and family to accommodate service appointments, communicate with customer service representatives, document the problem, and independently investigate possible external causes. I have also incurred expenses associated with obtaining professional inspections that should not have been necessary had the refrigerator functioned as warranted.
The ongoing nature of this defect raises legitimate concerns regarding product reliability and consumer safety. Even if the particles ultimately prove not to be hazardous, the continued dispensing of unidentified material into consumable ice is unacceptable and inconsistent with the reasonable expectations of any consumer purchasing a premium appliance.
Federal Warranty Rights
The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. §§ 2301–2312) provides important protections to consumers when products covered by written warranties cannot be repaired within a reasonable number of attempts. When repeated warranty repairs fail to correct a defect, consumers may be entitled to appropriate relief, including replacement or other remedies available under the warranty and applicable law.
LG has been afforded multiple opportunities to correct this problem. Those efforts have not resolved the defect.
New Jersey Consumer Protection
Additionally, New Jersey law, including the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act (N.J.S.A. 56:8-1 et seq.), prohibits certain deceptive or unconscionable commercial practices. I also reserve all rights available under New Jersey’s Uniform Commercial Code regarding express and implied warranties, including the implied warranty that consumer goods are fit for their ordinary purpose.
I sincerely hope litigation and regulatory involvement will not become necessary. However, I am fully prepared to pursue every available remedy should LG decline to resolve this matter promptly.
If this matter is not resolved, I am prepared to submit complaints and supporting documentation to, as appropriate:
? The New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs ? The Office of the New Jersey Attorney General ? [REDACTED] ? The Consumer Product Safety Commission ? Any other appropriate federal or state consumer protection agency
I also reserve the right to pursue all remedies available through arbitration or the courts, including recovery of costs and attorney’s fees where authorized by law.
Demand
Accordingly, I hereby demand that LG:
1. Replace my current refrigerator with a different LG model of comparable or greater value that does not exhibit this recurring issue; 2. Arrange delivery and installation at no cost to me; 3. Remove the defective refrigerator at LG’s expense; and 4. Provide written confirmation of LG’s agreement to this resolution within ten (10) business days of receipt of this letter.
Further repair attempts on this unit are not acceptable. LG has already had multiple opportunities to remedy this defect, and those attempts have been unsuccessful.
This letter is sent in good faith in the hope that LG will resolve this matter promptly and without the need for further action. Nothing contained herein shall be construed as a waiver of any rights or remedies available to me under federal or New Jersey law.
I expect your written response within ten (10) business days.
Sincerely,
[REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Black stainless steel French door refrigerator with ice and water dispenser in the door.
For some reason our LG French door refrigerator will dispense 120-128 deg Fahrenheit water from the water dispenser in the door. I contacted LG August of 2025. I had so many texts and messages trying to get this resolved. This has happened at least three times that I am aware of. 128 degrees is hot enough to burn a mount or throat if the water is swallowed. I cant allow my grandkids to use the water just in case it is having another issue of the water being too hot. LG has escalated it twice. They agreed at one point to ship me a replacement refrigerator. The transport company was supposed to call me and set up a day and time to replace the refrigerator. I have removed the sticker for the model and serial number per LG instructions. The transport company never called. LG closed out my case. It is now reopened and I am as told by LG that the issue was escalated to even a higher department and has been told three times they will call. Still no call. This is clearly a safety issue. This has happened multiple times. I do not have the sticker with the serial number or model number. I was instructed by LG that I needed to send that to them. They provided shipping label for doing so.

The product, in the report: stainless french door refrigerator
LG refrigerator model LFD22860TT: one day came to the fridge to find everything on the top shelf hot and plastic items melted. Apparently the switches to turn off the interior lights failed, and the incandescent bulbs inside heat up to dangerous temperatures over time. The entire lighting assembly is melted, the top of the refrigerator is melted, and this is a significant product safety fire hazard. LG sent an independent tech to evaluate and they determined the product is beyond repair and is a safety hazard. Nonetheless, LG cancelled the case to resolve this for us without explanation, and has gone on for over 2 weeks without update or explanation.

The product, in the report: LG 29 cu ft Smart MyColor InstaView Standard Depth MAX 4-Door French Door Refrigerator in Stainless Steel with Craft Ice
The door on our LG refrigerator has never functioned correctly, they finally replaced the door and the second door is no better and the latch to open the top right grab and go door pinched my finder so hard I expected to see blood when I pulled my hand away. This could cause a laceration of the fingers. That was in 8/13/2025. Im afraid to use the door at all now for fear of injury. The door also does not work like the showroom model. The door is very hard to close due to latch and the main door does not close and seal like the showroom model. They were supposed to come and fix it today and they cancelled the appointment. We paid over $3,000 for this refrigerator, they have been out 5 or six times and the issues persist.

The product, in the report: LG French Door Refrigerator, Model LFDS22520S.ASTCNA0, Serial 008MRKU2J373, purchased in 2020.
I am reporting a safety and functionality failure of an LG French Door Refrigerator, Model LFDS22520S.ASTCNA0, Serial 008MRKU2J373, purchased in 2020. The unit experienced complete compressor failure on June 1, 2025.
LG acknowledged the issue is due to a known defect in their linear compressors, previously addressed in a class action lawsuit ([REDACTED]). Despite this, LG has failed to resolve the issue promptly. I have been without refrigeration for more than 8 days, resulting in food spoilage, unsanitary conditions (gnats, odor), and risk to household health.
LGs refusal to replace the unit or expedite repair despite acknowledging the defect constitutes a risk to consumer well-being and may affect a broader population of consumers. I am requesting that CPSC review LGs failure to provide timely corrective action for this known product defect.

No incident, no one hurt Made May 25, 2025, sent to the company May 28, 2025, published by CPSC Jun 11, 2025
The product, in the report: REFRIGERATOR
I purchased an LG refrigerator (Model LRF0C2606S/00, Serial Number 211KRNMLE967, manufactured 11/2022) which contained a known defective compressor. LG has had widespread complaints and class actions regarding its linear compressors, yet the company continues to sell these units without warning or proper recall.
The compressor in my unit failed, causing the refrigerator to stop cooling. I lost a significant amount of perishable food, and the lack of refrigeration presented a health hazard in my home.
I contacted LG immediately, and it took over two weeks to get a technician dispatched. Meanwhile, I was given false timelines and denied escalation multiple times by customer service. A supervisor named [REDACTED] hung up on me, and their excuse for not calling me backdespite having my numberwas unacceptable. Even after all this, the appliance remains broken.
This is not an isolated case. This compressor issue has existed for years and is well-documented in consumer forums and lawsuits. LG should be held accountable for continuing to sell dangerous, defective products that fail within a short period and compromise household safety.

The product, in the report: Refrigerator with freezer on the bottom
The consumer has numerous problems from the first week the refrigerator was delivered to their home. The food would not stay cold and spoiled on many different occasions.
The dealer sent technicians out 2 different times to work on the refrigerator, but it still never worked properly. Water fell down into the freezer drawers and spilled onto the floor.
One technician told the consumer that the compressor went bad, and it would cost more than $600 to replace it.
9/2024: The son has been using a cooler, because eventually the refrigerator stopped working all together. The consumer purchased this refrigerator for her son.
The consumer has called the manufacturer numerous times, but they have not been willing to help. She was repeatedly told that they do not have service people in her area.
The consumer also said that refrigerant leaked from it, and she’s concern about potential safety issues.

We noticed items in our LG freezer were thawing. At the time the upper fridge still felt cold. We pulled the whole fridge out, cleaned it, unplugged, reset and it seemed to work a for a few hours but by the next day things were thawing again. The fridge is making a high pitched sound. The following day the fridge no longer felt cold. If we unplug we can get it working for a few hours and then it stops working again. I have reached out to LG several times only to be told they cannot locate a technician to come out. We haven’t even owned our fridge a full 3 years and it is still covered under their 5 year warranty. We have a pregnant woman and 3 young children in the house at risk of food illness if things cannot be kept at safe temperatures.

There were several parts replaced because it wasnt cooling correctly. It is now set at 33 degrees and still the items on the door are warmer. The last technician that came out said we should only put items that we can leave out when going out to a picnic . As I explained to the LG representative, we bought a refrigerator, not a pantry. She refused our claim and we are left with a lemon of a refrigerator. How is this company getting away with selling this as a partial refrigerator? We would never had bought it if they would have notified us of the refrigerator door. My mother had gotten sick with diarrhea because many items are spoiled. She has been to doctor because of her stomach issues. I read a standard refrigerator should be between 35-38. Even at the lowest 33, this refrigerator is not keeping all the items at a correct temperature in refrigerator. We need help with this problem and LG needs to be investigated for false advertising.

We purchased and LG refrigerator on 5/25/24. For the past month, we have been enduring a horrendous chemical smell. It is in our ice, our food and in our entire house and our property. LG is refusing to call me back. They sent a repairman out once and he told me to change the filter (which I did). The food tastes funny and I refuse to use the ice as it burns our tongues.

The product, in the report: Bottom Freezer Refrigerator, stainless steel finish, French doors, water dispenser,
I purchased an LG refrigerator, model# LFDS22520S, on 11/12/22. The fridge stopped working and tripped the AFCI breaker in my home, and continued to trip different breaker after plugging into different outlets. After some troubleshooting and a technical breakdown of the fridge I found what was causing the fridge to continuously trip the breaker. I found a broken shorting wire in the Front Plate Assembly (flapper), part# AGU73767912, of the fridge. I have pictures of broken wire. The flapper piece is between the two french doors of the fridge, it continuously gets banged when fridge door is closed. Not every time but maybe 10% of the time. Having the fridge for a year and half was enough time to cause this failure. I called LG customer service and they would not replace this part since it is out their 1 year warranty period. I explained to them that not only is this a new product and shouldn’t be breaking but this is a health and hazard safety risk. Arcing inside a door can cause a fire or possibly shock someone.

The product, in the report: LG Instaview Refrigerator that is supposed to keep foods ar correct temperatures
Our 4-year, 9 month-old LG-refrigerator (purchased September 2019) has had about 20 service calls nearly all for loss of cooling. Last August (2023) LG service replaced the compressor and gave it only a 90-day “warranty.” Here it is in June and it is not cooling. Refrigerator temp is 52 degrees!!! I confirmed with the FDA just now that that is an unsafe temperature for food storage. LG has had class-action lawsuits against it for its linear-compressor refrigerators losing the ability to cool. While they sent the repair request to their authorized service contractor, it is too long of a time for him to get here to stop bacterial growth on our meats, cheeses, dairy, and other foods that needto stay at 45 or below. This is a REPEATED ISSUE with LG and many consumers have suffered loss of food and zero reimbursement from LG. These problems are health hazards!!!

The product, in the report: Black LG side by side 36 wide fridge
LG side-by-side refrigerator that was 7 years old abruptly stopped cooling, causing us to have to throw away food. The fridge did not give any sort of alarm or indication that it had stopped working. We discovered it when we went to dispense ice and water came pouring out. The doors were shut securely and the fridge had not been moved. We called LG and they said a flat rate repair would cost $500 and only have a 90-day warranty. I asked about the 10-year warranty on the linear compressor and they said the repair cost would be the same regardless of what was broken. The compressor has been the subject of class action lawsuits, and when shopping for a new fridge we noticed binding arbitration notices on LG products.

The consumer’s 7-year-old grandson got some ice from the refrigerator and plastic pieces fell into his cup. The grandson drank some of the liquid and went o his mom to show her that something was in the bottom of the cup. There was also a separate incident, where plastic pieces fell into a different glass the consumer was using.
She found a plastic piece inside of the freezer, which resembled a gear, and the problem seems identical to the one in CPSC Recall [REDACTED]. This issue presents a choking hazard.
The refrigerator was making a weird noise, and she called a local repair technician. The technician told her that due to the number of problems with this brand, he would not work on them.
The refrigerator no longer makes ice. A large chunk of ice builds up where ice used to be made.
The consumer did not contact the manufacturer, because her product warranty period had passed.

18 month old LG Refrigerator, model # LFXC22526S/10, “ThinQ”, began making loud lawn-motor like noises. Noxious smell began to come from the refrigerator - and power was then disconnected. After a couple of days I was able to get a Technician to come out and diagnose the issue. He told me that the “Condenser Fan Motor” had failed - and that had I not discovered it, IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A FIRE. So what if this happened when no one was home? This could have had very serious consequences, and I have to believe that this cannot be just a one-off incident for LG Refrigerators.

I have an LG french door, bottom freezer Model #LFDS22520S that is 5 yrs old last month. In mid Sept. 2022 we started finding small bits of plastic in our drinks as the ice melted. I contacted LG customer service and they offered suggestions like changing the water filter. This did not work. Problem continued and I ended up replacing the ice maker. When I replaced it I was able to see that the coasting inside the tray was peeling away and assumed this was the cause. Now a year later I am having the same problem. I believe there should be a recall on this part. Who knows the health issues involved in swallowing these bits.

The product, in the report: LG LRMXC2206S French Door Refrigerator/Freezer Stainless Steel, Counter Depth 34-3/4” Wide, 31-1/4” Depth, and 69-3/4” High We purchased an LG LRMXC2206S in April, 2022, and once installed, we placed digital thermometers in the fridge and also in the freezer to monitor the internal temps. After a few days to equilibrate, the internal fridge temperatures recorded by the thermometer was 3-4 degrees F higher than the set temperature on the door control panel. We called LG service about this and their tech came, took some temperature measurements and then explained that everything was fine since “the actual temperature inside the unit can be within 5 to 10 degrees of the set temperature” (We got the same reply when contacting LG service online and by phone). We lived with a lower setting (34F) to maintain an internal temp of 37F. In late April of 2023, we found that the internal temps were on the rise despite lowering the control temp to its lowest setting of 33F. We were getting internal temps of 40-41F (with the control temp set to 33F), which is pushing against the max temp for safe food storage in fridges recommended by the US FDA. Since the one-year warranty had expired three weeks earlier, we called a service person who replaced a fan, the back panel containing a thermistor, and finally the main control board. All this took 4 months and cost us roughly $800. When all the servicing was complete, we still had to set the control panel temp to the minimum setting (33F) to maintain a safe internal temperature of 37-38F. As a result, we perceive a potential danger to others because of the inability of the LG LRMXC2206S to maintain temperatures that are safe for food storage as defined by the US FDA. Please note that the freezer worked well throughout.
Refrigerator would not maintain FDA safe temperatures for food storage (Below 40-41F) even when control temperature was set to lowest temperature of 33F.

The product, in the report: LG French Door Refrigerator Model# LFXS26973S.
My wife was doing routine cleaning of our LG refrigerator. She removed the bottom glass shelf and wiped it with a cool, damp cloth, which had been done before. Moments later the glass exploded into small pieces and sent small pieces flying as far as 10-12ft throughout the area. Injuries were minimal, only a minor scratch when someone stepped on a piece. However, glass was everywhere and we consider it a close call that no additional injuries were incurred. We searched around the internet and found several message boards where this exact situation had occurred on many occasions with other people. Regardless of what LG may claim, there is no way this glass is in accordance with safety standards for shattering glass, etc.

The product, in the report: LG 23.5 cu. ft. French Door Counter-Depth Refrigerator with Craft Ice - Model Number: LRFXC2416S
Refrigerator/Freezer is not maintaining safe temperatures. Temperatures frequent register 15 degrees higher than the set temperature. Since this problem was detected in June, the manufacturer has done two repairs and replaced three separate parts (compressor, ice maker, and main control board). After these repairs, the same temperature issues remain. This raises concerns about a defective model. In any case, so far the manufacturer is intransigent regarding accepting a return/refund on the produce (which was under 5 months old when the issue was first detected under 2 months ago). It seems to me that the manufacturer is trying to make their process as painful and time consuming as possible (leaving us without a functioning refridgerator for a very difficult amount of time to tolerate) in the hopes that they will not have to take financial reponsibility. If this is not their explicit intention, it is likely to be the effect on most consumers (or, alternately, continuing to rely on an unsafe refridgerator in the interim).

Have a LG fridge raider that doesn’t stay cool food going bad had a stomach virus because of it and now can’t get no one to fix it. It has a 10 year warranty on the refrigerator but thy want to pro-rate it. And they don’t have any teach in [REDACTED] that can fit it. When you pay $3,200.00 for a fridge or raider you would love it to last longer than a year and nine months. And they are asking for a purchase receipt for which I don’t have and even the Lowe’s store does not have it because they don’t keep that information on their system. And I was not contemplating on refrigerator, not lasting as short of a time as it did?? I would like to get a refund are at least 80% of what I paid for it. They guaranteed it would last for 10 years and it only lasted 8.7 years.

The product, in the report: LG side by side refridgerator
The LG LHSXS 2706 fridge has a serious design flaw. The shelves in both the fridge and freezer are made of tempered glass, which shatters very easily, when even a lightweight object is dropped on them. The shatter into hundreds of sharp glass pieces. So far, we have had to order new lower shelves for both the fridge and freezer, plus a new freezer drawer (due to shattered glass being wedged into the drawer guides), at a cost of over $200. We are very afraid this will keep happening. We have owned this fridge less than 1 year.

The manufacturer was contacted and he was advised that the plastic might be coming from his water line and that his unit was out of warranty. Caller stated that the icemaker is a safety issue not a warranty issue because there are tiny pieces of plastic that are frozen in the ice.
Caller is concerned about this unsafe refrigerator icemaker and feels that it should be reported.

The consumer indicates that his wife noticed that the butter inside the refrigerator was soft, letting them know that the unit was not cooling properly. The consumer measured the temperature inside the refrigerator and got 65 Fahrenheit, when the FDA website notes that to keep food from perishing, a refrigerator should be between 45 – 50 degrees.
The consumer contacted the retailer and explained the situation; a representative was dispatched to inspect the unit and realized one of the fan stopped working. Because the fan was on backorder, the retailer offered the consumer a payout, which the consumer received roughly a month later.

The product, in the report: French door refrigerator, with freezer on the bottom
2020: The refrigerator’s temperature began to fluctuate. Sometimes, it was not as cool as it should be.
11/2021: The refrigerator’s temperature would only drop down to approximately 40 degrees. Therefore, food could not be stored safely inside the refrigerator.
The freezer has a similar issue. Over the last year, the freezer would stop working, then start working again on its own. Over time, the problem got worse with the non-working periods lasting longer, until the freezer quit working all together.
The consumer contacted the mfr., but said he could not understand their rep. Next, they told him that the local authorized service center (Cutting Edge Appliance Repair), would have to contact him. That service company has told the consumer that they have not been able to get the repair authorization from the firm, to do the repair. This is the only authorized service center in his area.
He has also tried calling other local service companies, but once he informed the service companies of the brand he had, they have refused to work on it.
The consumer saw that there was a class action suit for the sealed compressors in this manufacturer’s refrigerators and the suit had been settled. Therefore, the consumer believes that there needs to be a recall for this brand of refrigerators, which were built after 2014. The suit information was related to the compressor failures.
He has contacted the manufacturer numerous times about his refrigerator, but they will not address the problem.

I recently bought two thermometers that shows current temperature and maximum and minimum. It was stable at 54 degrees and 20 degrees in the freezer. We have been calling LG and they booked us another repair weeks out. Those temperatures are not safe for edible food. The milk spoiled prematurely and the meat is supposed to stay under 40. The product, in the report: LG Refrigerator Typical plastic ice maker in side by side refrigerator that drops the ice from a bin in the the door directly into the glass. Model LSXS26326S/02
I am submitting a hazardous issue with my LG ice maker that presents a choking or ingesting problem of a foreign object falling from the ice maker into the ice. I am submitting the complaint I sent to LG Support, but they do not respond to me. I sent them a photo of the object that I could have swallowed if I had not happened to see it when the ice was going into my glass. This is a serious issue, and I feel that it warrants a recall and repair of my ice maker because I am now afraid to use the ice maker. See submission below to LG Support: Message Sirs, Per several ticket conversations with Support Agents (the last one being #[REDACTED] and the prior ticket #[REDACTED]), I communicated a serious health issue problem with my ice maker coming apart and leaking heavily. I submitted a photo of the plastic part that dropped into my glass when getting ice. I just happened to see it; otherwise, I might have drunk it, causing a choking problem. My last call to the Support Center told me that I would receive a call from a supervisor who was reviewing the problem; however, I haven’t received a call yet. Can someone please contact me to discuss how you want to handle this problem? I am now afraid to use any ice from the ice maker as there may be other parts ejected as well that could be consumed accidentally. I feel that you would probably want your own LG repair person to repair this ice maker so that you can make a determination if any recall needs to be made for this issue. Since this problem has existed for almost 2 weeks, I am needing a repair desperately and hope that your people will reach out to me as soon as possible today. My phone number is[REDACTED] I am also including the photo that I previously submitted to Support of what appears to be a plastic O-ring or plastic C-clip for your examination. If I do not hear from someone soon, I am going to have to contact a lawyer or notify the USDA about this health issue. I hope I do not have to go to that extreme if someone will just contact me and take care of this problem. Sincerely, [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: French door refrigerator, with freezer on the bottom
The consumer has experienced numerous problems with this refrigerator. The problems started getting worse around 2017. He also had an issue early in 2020. Now, in 7/2020, there is an issue, where the compressor has gone out and that could cost $500 or more to repair/replace.
The plastic pieces inside of the refrigerator break easily. The consumer had to replace the freezer drawer once, because it cracked in the middle. The water pump had to be replaced and that cost approximately $100 + ($55 in labor).
7/2020: The consumer heard an unusual noise from the fridge and thought it might be the compressor. However, the most recent tech that he spoke with confirmed that the compressor had gone bad. The consumer said that he has heard unusual noises from the fridge, since he moved into the home in 2015.
He has lost most of the food in his fridge or 2 or more occasions over the years.
His family could be at risk of eating spoiled food, there could be an electrical hazard with the fridge or someone could have sustained a cut, from one of the broken plastic pieces inside.

The product, in the report: LG two-door refrigerator with freezer drawer. stainless steel front.
We purchased this new LG Refrigerator from Menards, We had trouble with the ice maker since the fridge was delivered. The Ice maker often would freeze up at the front of the refrigerator door, and we would have to remove the ice drawer in the door in order to get the melted ice block out.
I always dumped the stuck together ice in the sink, but this time I noticed a SCREW with a white head lying in the sink once the ice in the sink melted. I wondered where this screw came form? So I took a closer look at the refrigerator door and ice maker inside. I found that the screw in the sink should hold a bracket inside the door. I also noticed that another screw was MISSING! I installed the screw we found in the sink, which holds some gear inside the door. Been experiencing some pain in my lower right side, It could be the screw that is missing? My issue is: Where did the screw go? Did someone inadvertently drink it with the ice? How many other LG refrigerators are out there with the same issue? This unit is only about two years old. This should not ever happen! If the screw gets accidentally ingested it could kill someone!

The product, in the report: The lower door hinge is held in place by inadequate support and pressed down with the foam of the door insulation. As the door ages, the foam is compressed from the weight of the door and causes the entire door to slouch. Due to the design of the lower hinge which is simply a cap in a housing, as the door begins to sag due to the compression of the aging insulation being the support for the hinge mount, the door drops slightly which allows the door to fall out of the top hinge. I warned LG about this risk 10 days ago when I first realized it was dangerous and today it ended up falling off and crushing my big toe, possibly causing the big toe nail to fall off. The door could have easily crushed a child if they opened it as it is heavy and also of course has lots of weight from food and beverages stored in it. This is a design flaw with how this refrigerator is designed and needs to be recalled as there is just a thin piece of plastic and foam supporting the lower hinge, it is not actually screwed into the frame which is ridiculous for a design because the foam will obviously compresses as it ages and then causes the plastic to crack because its no longer held tight by the foam, then as stated above it sags and the entire door falls out of the hinge. The model number is LSC27950ST

The product, in the report: LG counter depth bottom freezer, french door refrigerator
My LG refrigerators light did not turn off when the refrigerator door was closed. The light is supposed to turn off when the doors close or after being on for 7 minutes so not to overheat. My daughter discovered the problem when opening the refrigerator and there was a bad burning smell. It has melted much of the plastic cover to a point that I could not remove the cover in order to remove the light bulbs. There is NO switch to turn off the light. We unplugged it, and had to pry the pieces off, which was very difficult without being burnt or cut because it was extremely hot. But not wanting to loose all of our food, we didn’t have a lot of time. Some of the food containers had also begun to melt and much food was ruined. What really concerns me is that if it hadn’t been noticed, it would be a fire hazard. It had even begun to melt the top of the refrigerator. There should be a safety switch that turns off the lights when overheated - or it should operate as stated that it turns off after 7 minutes. There is also no way to turn it off manually. Had this happened a week earlier when we were out of town, I am afraid it would have caused a fire.

The product, in the report: LG French Door Stainless Steel 35 3/4 (W) x 30 7/8 (D) x 70 1/4 (H)
My husband and two kids (18 & 21) had left for work, leaving me and our 4 cats alone in the house. I walked into the kitchen and noticed a strong smell like melting plastic, which I now believe to have been a fairly large and concentrated quantity of R134a. By the time I figured out what it was, I had developed a horrible headache. To save my cats, I ran through the house opening all of the windows and turning on all of the fans. I barely made it out the front door as I was beginning to lose consciousness. For two days I continued to vent coolant via the pores of my skin. When I got outside, I contacted my protection plan to file a claim. The warranty service told me the soonest they would be able to send someone out would be two days. I knew that by then, the coolant would be gone, and I feared my claim would be denied. So, I went out and purchased a coolant detector. Even though all of the windows had been open, and all of the fans had been on for several hours, I was still able to detect coolant in my kitchen and at a slightly higher concentration behind my refrigerator. I took a video of this. For two days, my skin would set off the detector as well, which was interesting. My refrigerator has continued to operate normally, even up to the present day, and there is no evidence of any leak in the cooling system.
There is a lot to this ongoing saga, and I am not sure which details are going to be most important. I am filing this claim because I want to keep everyone safe from what I have come to believe are the unsafe practices of the professionals provided by the manufacturer of my refrigerator to maintain my refrigerator while under warranty. These practices have turned my refrigerator into a life threatening presence in my home. There have been at least two smaller releases of coolant since the initial one. When I spoke with my warranty service, I was told that over charging with coolant is standard practice for failing compressors in order to get a few more months of service out of them. My compressor was newly installed, but I only had 3 months left on my warranty, and I suppose it is possible the manufacturer wanted to make sure the new compressor made it to the end of my warranty. I actually saw the technician overcharge the cooling system, and asked him to take the excess out. He denied that he had done this. I complained to the warranty service and they sent him back. When he came back, he continued to deny it. I decided to believe him and go on with my life. Six weeks later, the incident described above occurred. When a compressor is replaced within a closed system, service valves are installed, and the system is no longer a closed system. The high side service valve also functions as a pressure release valve. Once the pressure release valve releases, it loses its integrity. The technician did not show up two days later. Instead, I had to wait two weeks. I let the manufacturer know that the release valve was going to need to be replaced. As expected, when the technician finally arrived, he denied that there had ever been a release of anything. I asked him to measure the coolant charge. It was slightly below the low end of spec. I wondered how it got that way, when there is no evidence of any leak in the cooling system. He offered to recharge the coolant. I told him I did not believe it was safe to recharge the coolant without replacing the release valve first, because once they go off, they lose their integrity. He told me that since there was no evidence that the valve had released anything, he could not replace the valve. I showed him my video. He told me he would see fluorescence if there had been a leak. I told him there was no leak. There was a release of gas, similar to the release of gas through the valve when he connected his equipment to it, and there was no fluorescence from that. He continued to deny that there had been any release of coolant from the cooling system. He left without replacing the release valve or charging the cooling system.

My new 4 month old LG refrigerator dispensed 12 small white sharp pieces of plastic into my drinking glass when I was getting ice from the external ice dispenser. The smallest piece is 8mm x 14mm x 0.5mm. I opened up the ice maker inside the door and the ice tray that makes the ice was dislodged and 1/4 of it was missing. We use the ice make daily and there was no issue prior to this incident.

LG Refrigerator model LMXS27626S, S/N 703TRKH0R381.
My daughter was drinking from a glass of ice water of ice and water just dispensed from the above mentioned refrigerator. She found a white screw in her glass (fortunately did not ingest it). I opened up the ice dispenser inside the refrigerator door and found the location of the missing screw. Right below it was a second identical screw that was also loose and would soon end up doing the same thing. I have retightened the screws in my refrigerator but based on screws being loose 2 out of 2 chances and the very obvious consequence of the screw coming loose, I think this is a serious concern and very likely to be happening on other units. I just sent an email to LG customer service right before filing out this form. I have pictures available if desired.

Life or death safety Issue with new LG refrigerator. Purchased a new refrigerator which was delivered on 1/21/19 a little over 24 hours later after following the manufacturer’s instructions on the water and ice maker with extra safety precautions I was choked by a piece of plastic that broke loss from the top cover and fell into the ice maker but fortunately was able to get it out.
The plastic scratched the back of my throat causing it to swell and become sore. I went into other stores to look at their floor models to see if it was just my unit but looking at other models from 2018 they have the same type of ice maker and the same problem existed. Models before 2018 used a different plastic and did not have the same issue.
I worked as a mechanical engineer in production and felt that the manufacturer should know so I contacted them first on 11/24/19, but felt that they are not taking it serious enough. They mailed a replacement part which had the same defect. They have finally offered to buy the refrigerator back, but this will not ensure others are not injured or die from it. I have not returned the call due to the weekend and ensure that I have a replacement refrigerator in place when they take theirs. They have had enough time to inform the public so that they understand what they need to look for so that no one will get injured or killed.
LG did take the top cover and the ice maker during the two service calls. However, I still have the piece that choked her. Examining other ice maker top covers at other stores you will find burrs on them as well. Enough vibrators or impact to the top cover will cause them to fall into the ice maker.

We own two homes, one in [REDACTED] and one on [REDACTED] in [REDACTED]. Over the holidays we spent our time in [REDACTED]. On Thursday, January 10th I went up to the lake home. Upon entering the home I found that a couple of breakers had cut out, and the refrigerator was ‘dead’. Upon inspection, after resetting the related breaker, I found that only the internal lighting and some of the indicator lights on the control panel were working. The refrigerator is protected by a dedicated surge protector, which was ‘green’ and operational at the time.
I spoke with an LG representative, who said she would like to do some smart testing with me at the refrigerator? I declined and emphasized that their refrigerator had blown breakers and I had no interest in this approach, as a matter of personal safety. They will be sending a technician. She indicated that the problem may be related to a ‘field panel’, as I understood, or the compressor, as the unit was room temperature upon discovery.
The unit has only been operational around 10 months, and is brand new. It was purchased for new construction, and was not installed for use until April or May, 2018. It’s a French door refrigerator, LG model #LFX28968D /00, Serial Number #706TRBS1L685. Additionally, a Sears repair technician was recently to our [REDACTED] home and told us he ‘wouldn’t bring an LG product into his home?’

This 67 year old consumer contacted the hotline to report his LG refrigerator. The caller doesn’t remember at moment but he will populate the information regarding where and when this unit was purchased before returning report. This refrigerator presented no known problems until sometime around the end of September 2018 when this consumer noticed that there were clear plastic shards coming out with the ice and into drinks being chilled with the ice. He is reporting this as a choking hazard as well as a possible laceration hazard if someone were to swallow them or even if they should go into the users mouth due to the plastic shards being clear and so not readily noticeable, they are one inch to two inches long and could be mistaken for ice cube Caller does still have the refrigerator The caller said he attempted to contact the manufacturer via their website but he states that there is no avenue to report safety issues. When he contacted the manufacturers customer support line he states that there was a language barrier preventing complete understanding of the issue. There are no recalls of this units model/serial number.

Several times the “Gallon Storage Bin” in the right side door of their LG French Door refrigerator model LFX25976ST\00 has dropped from the door to the floor. The lights inside our refrigerator did not shut off. I didn’t notice the problem until I opened the refrigerator and discovered that my milk and juice were very warm. It was warmer than room temperature warm. I realized that the lights on the refrigerator would not shut off when the doors were closed. I had smelled something “hot” earlier in the kitchen. It was definitely the refrigerator. The heat from the lights had caused the plastic housing/prongs that hold up the lighting fixture to melt. In addition, the plastic casing above the lights have bubbled up due to the intense heat. I believe this is a serious fire hazard.
I had to manually push the buttons that turn the refrigerator lights off and on MANY times before the lights would actually turn off. Something is wrong with the electrical lighting system of this refrigerator to cause the lights to stay on when the doors were of the refrigerator were closed. Currently, the refrigerator is working correctly, but I am afraid that it may happen again and possibly cause a fire. The bottom freezer section was not affected by this issue.
As a result of this malfunction, I had to throw away all the items in the refrigerator section of this appliance since they were not kept at the proper cooling temperature for many hours.

The lights on our LG Model #LFC25760SW are staying on even when the doors are closed AGAIN. This is the second time this fault has occurred since we purchased the unit in approx. 2007. Sometimes the lights come on when the doors are open, sometimes not. Sometimes they stay on when the doors are closed, sometimes not. When the lights stay on they get so hot that they have begun to melt the housing they are in - you can see the plastic deforming and the white color going brown. They have spoiled food in the top of the refrigerator. Everything I’ve found online from other people who have experienced this indicated that this is due to a faulty design and a bad relay. Bottom line this product is a piece of junk and I will NEVER buy LG again. I am prepared for the standard cut and paste response from LG that I’ve seen to other complaints on this site. I’m also aware of a class action lawsuit filed in New Jersey against LG for this exact problem.

I prurchased an LG French Door refrigerator in September 2015. Model # LMXS276265. This afternoon , March 17, 2017, I got some ice from the icemaker. When I drank from the glass, I almost bit down and swallowed a screw. As you can imagine , I was startled. Afted some deliberation, I checked the ice maker and found a missing screw from the bin. I checked the screw that was in my glass and verified it was the missing screw. I called LG customer service and told them what happened. After a couple of transfers, the representative said the refrigerator was out of warranty; however, they would send me a replacement bin at no charge. I had to electronically send a copy of my receipt. I am filing this issue to see if other consumers have experienced similar problems.

Like several other consumers, my LG French door refrigerator is defective and the interior lights do not shut off when the doors are closed. I purchased the appliance in 2007 and believe it has been a reoccurring problem for a while, as I found the plastic panel over the interior lights melted about a year or two ago. I was puzzled, of course, and the melting could not be explained. Finally, even though it took me a while, I discovered the problem with the interior lights this morning BEFORE it caught fire and BEFORE I left the house for work for the day. Had I not discovered it, my house, along with my pets, might be gone by now. Judging by LG’s response to the issue, they really do not care about the danger so I believe it useless to contact the company, especially since my appliance is 9 years old. I have removed the light bulbs and plan to disconnect the wiring in the hope that the danger will be resolved until I can buy a new refrigerator. Needless to say, I do not plan to buy another LG appliance of any type.

The product, in the report: LFC25760ST French Door model with bottom drawer freezer
LFC25760ST French Door refrigerator the interior light stays on and does not turn off. This has caused food to spoil, the light cover to melt, and blackening of the area around the lights. The bulbs were so hot that oven mitts needed to be used to remove them. Research on the internet shows that this is an ongoing issue with LG’s French Door models. I called LG to find out what part needs to be replaced and they would not tell me and instead wanted to send an LG technician over, at my expense. With the blackening of the top of the refrigerator, it is a matter of time until a house burns down.

The product, in the report: LG LFC25760SW white color fridge 2006 Made in Korea
My LG fridge model: LG LFC25760SW was smoking due to a melted overheated light socket assembly which I have read is caused by a defect in the main control board which is a known problem and is a class action lawsuit. We escaped our home burning down because my wife happened to be home.
My wife suffered from toxic burning plastic fumes as did our dog that lives indoors. My wife was home alone and chose to remove the light bulb to stop the burning smell. She could have been electrocuted or burnt but was smart enough to wrap a towel around the lightbulb before unscrewing it.
We now have a fridge with no light because I had to remove the light assembly to save our food and turn the fridge back on not to mention I lost a half day’s work racing home to deal with the problem.
I would like to know if there are any resources you can suggest so that I may be compensated for this known saftey- hazard issue that has been well documented by many many others for the same model fridge online.

We are writing to lodge a complaint about our defective LG refrigerator and express serious concerns about the safety of refrigerators that LG continues to sell.
Refrigerator Information
Refrigerator Model: LFX31925ST/01 Serial Number: 205KRGG24751 Purchase Date: July 31,.2012 (sold by J&R) Delivery Date: August 9, 2012 (delivered by HDS)
Refrigerator Defect
On or about January 22,2015, after owning this refrigerator for only 2.5 years - it suddenly created an extremely strong odor of burning in our kitchen. It smelled like plastic melting. We were extremely concerned about the risk of fire.
We called our local appliance repair provider to investigate. There was a burn mark approximately 3 inches long inside the refrigerator -- see attached pictures. The inside of the refrigerator was also completely permeated by the burn smell.
The appliance repair provider told us this created a serious fire hazard because the foam was melting, and that the defect could have created an electrical fire. He also said that the refrigerator could not be repaired and it would be dangerous to continue to use it. We were concerned about the fire risk, and purchased a new refrigerator.
In researching how to contact LG to request a refund, it came to our attention that this is a known issue. In reading about the Connie McLennan v: LG Electronics USA case, it appears that this is the same or a similar defect. We are troubled that LG would continue to sell refrigerators with this dangerous defect.
We did contact LG and were routed to a “proof of purchase” upload portal. We tried to upload documentation into this portal, but the link would not accommodate the number of pictures we had of the issue. As a result, we are sending you this letter to document our experience with the defective product.
We are requesting compensation from LG. Please see attached documentation.
Requested Compensation
Refund for my defective refrigerator: $2,947.41 Refund for my service call: $ 80.00 Refund for the estimated cost of spoiled food: $ 500.00 --------- $3,527.41 Thank you for your consideration.

Interior light on LG refrigerator, model LFX25960ST, will not turn off, overheats, melts the light fixture and the top of the refrigerator as well as ruins all of the food in the refrigerator. This first occurred in August 2014 and LG replaced the light fixture indicating that the new fixture contained a sensor which would turn off the light and prevent overheating. The new fixture has now also remained on, overheated, melted the fixture as well as further damaged the top of the refrigerator.

LG - LFX25960TT. Came home after being out to the smell of plastic melting. When I opened up the refrigerator door you could feel the heat from the light area. I touched the top shelves to find them extremely hot. The plastic light cover had melted. The light bulb casings were burnt and the inside top of the fridge had gotten so hot that it melted and bubbled the top. An entire tub of butter completely melted down to liquid. Our milk was hot and several other items had to be thrown out due to the heat. It was like the top part of the fridge had turned into an oven. I am thankful we got home when we did or our entire house may have eventually caught on fire.

The control panel on our LG Refrigerator Model LFC25760TT (bought in 2008) did not turn off after the doors were shut and it appears to have failed. The only way to shut it off was to flip the breaker (or unplug it). The control panel was dangling from melted plastic tabs with the lights on and smoke/charred marks around the light bulbs. The unit was melted inside, the wires were hanging down, most items stored in the refrigerator were cooking, and there was a thin layer of smoke (melted plastic and rubber smelling) throughout the house. The unit is likely unrepairable and we are lucky to have been home and awake at the time to catch it before a fire started.

The product, in the report: LG SS French Door refrigerator.
I purchased an LG French Door SS refrigerator from Home Depot on or around 2006/2007. Though the appliance is out of warranty, I believe what has occurred is a fire hazard for this model and possibly others. The model number is LFC25760ST.
Over an unknown period of time, apparently both light bulb fixtures in the lighting casing and controls the temperature settings, have apparently burned up, and today the whole unit literally fell from its attachment to the top of the inside of the appliance. There was a burning smell which was the plastic casing for the screws holding the unit up. The heat from the bulb fixtures had heated this plastic to the point where they both melted and the whole unit dropped down hanging only by the wire connector which allows the temperature portion to regulate.
I have no doubt this could have caused a fire if not for the plastic casings melting resulting in the unit dropping down today.

Came home from the store to find my refrigerator extremely hot on the inside along with a burning plastic smell. When I opened the doors i found just that. I then got my cell phone and recorded the inside of the refrigerator with the doors shut. I discovered the interior light were remaining on when the door were completely closed. I then got on some hand protection and tried to remove the bulbs. This took several minutes since they were roasting hot. After i removed the bulbs I let the refrigerator sit for 1hour. As i opened the door all of the plastic that was hot fell from the top of the refrigerator. I was finally able to remove all the parts to take pictures.
