The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Dec 29, 2011, sent to the company Jan 9, 2012, published by CPSC Jan 24, 2012

The product, in the report: Crock-Pot Designer Series Smart-Pot (slow cooker)

I purchased a Crock-Pot Designer Series Smart-Pot at Kohl’s less than a year ago. Whenever I used it I smelled a burning plastic odor. I went to use the Crock-Pot today, December 29, 2011 and noticed something black fall off of the bottom when I picked the Crock-Pot up to place it onto the counter. I turned the Crock-Pot over and a large portion of the black, bottom plastic shell was melted off (exposing the inside parts of the appliance). I contacted the phone number on the side of the Crock-Pot and they are sending me a replacement.

Made Oct 18, 2011, sent to the company Dec 27, 2011, published by CPSC Jan 11, 2012

The product, in the report: Crockpot

The consumer says she noticed odd bubbling and leakage prior to the incident. She says she put a regular sized roast in crockpot for an hour and thirty minutes. Around that time is when she heard an explosion. She says the crockpot exploded. The lid did not shatter but it blew off. the consumer contacted the manufacturer who told her it was not on recall and that their was nothing they could do. They offered a lid, then a crockpot which I took. I have the new crockpot(boxed and unused) and the defective pot in my shed. I was told by the company they have had numerous incidents like mine reported.

Made Sep 17, 2011, sent to the company Oct 12, 2011, published by CPSC Oct 26, 2011

The product, in the report: Silver and black 6qt. oval crockpot with digital panal, plastic black handle on glass lid

While I was using my crock pot on low setting yesterday, I noticed the smell of plastic melting, shut off crock pot, removed contents and noticed the plastic bottom had a melted area the size of a half dollar. The heating element melted through bottom of crock pot, and another area where it was starting to melt, also. This did not result in any injuries but had I not been home or in the kitchen it could have resulted in the loss of our home and then possible injury or death to me,my fiancee, my other children ,one of which has a disability, and is at a disadvantage to get out of home quick enough.
